PISA Response Paper
Since, the starting of PISA the results from the assessment along with TIMMS, and PIRLS have
received a number of mixed reactions from countries around the world. According to Patrick Gonzales
a research analyst at the National Center of Education and Statistics the United States 2012 PISA
findings were not surprising. According to PISA 2012, the United States currently ranks 17th in
reading, 27th in mathematics, and 20th in science (PISA 2012 US, 2012). Over the years, the results
from the Nation s Report Card an ongoing national assessment of fourth, eight, and twelve graders
provides a similar insight into of what students can and cannot do in the U.S. Therefore, PISA results
did not provide much new insight into the strengths and weaknesses ... Show more content on

Germany did not partake in national or international assessments. Thence, it was unaware of the
fragmentation of its own educational system. The large scale assessments Germany had partaken in
were in 1962 to 1972 with the First International Science Study and again in 1995 with TIMMS.
Although, the release of the 1995 results of TIMMS indicated flaws in Germany s educational system
the release of the PISA 2000 made an impact in the country because it reaffirm the outcomes from
TIMMS. The PISA 2000 indicated that students were below OECD average in reading, math, and
science. The initial results were shocking in Germany because there was a strong belief of the
superiority of the education system held by the Germans (Neumann, Fischer, Kauertz, 2010). Edelgard
Bulmahn notes, a country with the economic and political significance of Germany belongs at the top
of the league (2002). The results from the first PISA study encourage and created reform across
Germany. Some of these reforms included the formation of National Standards and National
Assessments, increasing the number of schools that offer all day schooling, and reforms to improve
equity and promote quality in education (PISA 2012 Germany, 2012). To promote quality in education
and equity Germany sponsored programs to include teacher training on intercultural competence,
funding of SINUS to increase efficiency of mathematics and science instruction, and the creation of of

Human Nature In Survival In Auschwitz By Primo Levi
In Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi uses characterization to describe human nature, showing the
reader how human nature and the nature of Auschwitz contradict and manifest. Beginning with how
human nature manifests to Levi and transitions as it moves through the story. Firstly, in Survival in
Auschwitz Primo Levi begins to learn how our human nature manifests in the most desperate and
nerve wracking of times. Sooner or later in life everyone discovers that perfect happiness is
unrealizable, but there are a few who pause to consider the antithesis: that perfect unhappiness is
equally unattainable. In this short excerpt Levi uses thoughtful time to reflect upon this subject,
though common considering he is quite quizzical. He uses balanced syntax to form an antithesis, as he
even state in the quote. Furthermore, he is quite truthful in his analysis of happiness, in human nature,
we can never achieve the complete happiness or even complete unhappiness. Simply, we can only
reach a certain extent of content and a limit of depression. In a way, this quote characterizes our
essence of human nature and our unattainability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here we received the first blows: and it was so new and senseless that we felt no pain, neither in body
nor in spirit. Only profound amazement: how can one hit a man without anger? (1.16. Survival In
Auschwitz) Analysis: Levi uses description to give his account of emotions and the event. Also, he
used thoughtful yet dumbfoundead tone, he was halted in amazement as to how one could harm
another yet he had done no wrong. He could not understand nor analyze the nature of such beings who
could do such harsh things. It was an antithesis of human nature, it was a conundrum to him. How

King Richard Essay
King Richard
My report is on Richard I, byname Richard the Lion Hearted. He was born September 8, 1157 in
Oxford, England. He died on April 6, 1199 in Chalus, England. His knightly manner and his prowess
in the Third Crusade(1189 92) made him a popular king in his own time, as well as the hero of
countless romantic legends. He has been viewed less kindly by more recent historians and scholars.
Richard was the third son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he was given the duchy of
Aquitaine, his mother s inheritance, at the age of 11 and was enthroned as duke at Poitiers in 1172.
Richard possessed precocious political and military ability, he won fame for his knightly prowess, and

Richard found the Sicilians hostile, and took Messina by storm(October 4). To prevent the German
Emperor Henry VI from ruling their country, the Sicilians had elected the native, Tancred of Lecce,
who had imprisoned the late king s wife, Joan of England(Richard s sister), and denied her possession
of her dower. By the Treaty of Messina, Richard obtained for Joan her release and her dower,
acknowledged Tancred as king of
Sicily, declared Arthur of Brittany(Richard s nephew)to be his own heir, and provided for Arthur to
marry Tancred s daughter. This treaty infuriated the Germans, who were also taking part in the Third
Crusade, and it incited Richard s brother, John, to treachery and rebellion. Richard joined the other
crusaders at Acre on June 8, 1191, conquered Cyprus on his way there. While at Limassol in Cyprus,
Richard married(May 12)Berengaria of Navarre.
Acre fell in July 1191, and on September 7, Richard s brilliant victory at Arsuf put the crusaders in
possession of Joppa. Twice Richard led his forces to within o few miles of Jerusalem. But the
recapture of the city, which constituted the chief aim of the Third Crusade, eluded him. There were
fierce quarrels among the French, German, and English contingents. Richard insulted Leopold V, duke
of Austria, by tearing down his banner and quarreled with Philip Augustus, who returned to France
after the fall of Acre. Richard s candidate for the crown of

The Lack of Free Speech in the Military
As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being
defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those
freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech
for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed
forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their
lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have
vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from
the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful
of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of
dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason.
I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives,
as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as
Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and
soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say.
Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no
ramifications for doing so. When one

The Importance Of The Electoral College
The United States is considered the leader in promoting democratic values worldwide. For this very
reason, the United States has engaged in conflicts and negotiations around the world to allow the
people of different countries the ability to freely and directly elect their leaders. However, the United
States remains the only democratic country in the world that does not allow the people to directly elect
their President. Instead, the United States opts for the undemocratic institution of the Electoral
College, in which electors from each state are chosen and these electors are the actual people that cast
the votes that decide the presidential election. The Founders set up a system in Article II Section I of
the Constitution that guarantees, each state shall appoint... a Number of Electors, equal to the whole
Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress, and that,
the Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be President, if such Number be a Majority of
the Number of Electors appointed (Constitution). This outdated system of electing the leader of the
free world should be abolished in favor of a direct popular vote in which the winner must receive at
least 40% of the vote. If 40% is not reached, a runoff election between the top two vote getters will be
held a month after the November election to determine who becomes the President. The system of a
popular vote would make sure all voices are heard and that the people

Differences Between Mass And Projected Area And Mass Of...
The last nine experiments listed in Table 1 have reported the projected area and mass of the firebrands.
Fig. 3 depicts the PDF and contour plots for OWB7. Figs. 3a and b, represent the PDF for the
firebrands at 4 meter and 18 meters from the fire front respectively. Considering Fig. 3c, we can
realize that the correlation between mass and projected area of firebrand is stronger than projected
area and the traveling distance of the brands. This fact is more obvious at closer distances. Moreover,
the analysis of results of this experiment shows that larger brands can fly further away from the fire
which sometimes is not in agreement with other experiments. The available data at 4 meter and 18
meter from the fire has been compared in Fig. 3d. We can observe that heavier brands could travel
further with the wind. In addition, it is understandable that the mean and standard deviation values for
mass and area of the firebrands at further distances are larger which means that we have more variety
of sizes there.
The PDF and contour plots for IWB1 are plotted in Fig. 4 and Fig.4a shows the PDF for both dry and
wet trays. Since we did not have access to individual brand information, using the presented table in
their paper, Table 7 here, we assume the average value of area for each category and for S 4, we
assumed the brand area is 5 cm2. The number of the brands in the wet tray is greater than that of the
dry tray since many brands have blown away from the dry tray and burned out

Diction And Views In Herman Melville s Benito Cereno
It is a cliché known by many: Always trust your gut. In other words, listen to your intuition as first
impressions matter. This saying reigns true in many works of literature, including Herman Melville s
1855 novel, Benito Cereno. Throughout the first part of the story, the main character, Captain Delano,
struggles with whether or not to trust a newly encountered ship, the San Dominick, its inhabitants, or
its captain, Benito Cereno. While the novel is third person omniscient, it is clear that Delano has his
doubts about the foreign ship from the beginning due to the original description of the San Dominick.
Melville writes in the third person omniscient point of view in order to allow the audience to come to
their own conclusions about the ship, but also heavily utilizes diction and sentence structure to give
readers clues about what to expect from the characters and plot. To give the passage context, Delano is
finally seeing the San Dominick clearly for the first time, not yet having met the passengers of the
ship. Delano is alone and it can be assumed that the description is his point of view, due to the fact that
the anonymous narrator appears to be pulling these images and renditions from Delano s mind.
Because of this, the reader is encouraged to think ahead about the ship s culture, its passengers, and
the types of things Delano will encounter if he decides to approach and explore it. Throughout the
passage, the author makes use of an overload of adjectives, all

Claude Monet and Nature Essay
Claude Monet was born in Paris in 1840 and would become known as one of France s famous
painters. Monet is often attributed with being the leading figure of the style of impressionism; but this
was not always the case. Monet started out his career as a caricaturist, showing great skill. Eventually
Monet began to accompany [Eugène] Boudin as the older artist . . . worked outdoors, . . . this truthful
painting, Monet later claimed, had determined his path as an artist. Monet s goal took off as his
popularity grew in the mid 1870s after he switched from figure painting to the landscape impressionist
style. William Seitz supports this statement through his quote, The landscapes Monet painted at

Le Dejeuner proved to be of one of the more daunting pieces for Monet. Wagner claims that Le
Dejeuner was so difficult for Monet to produce because she regards the piece as among the most
personal of Monet s career . The tremendous personalization of Le Dejeuner argued by Wagner is
supported by the identifications of the models used to create the figures portrayed in the scene. One of
the models used include Monet s son Jean, who is depicted as the baby; Doncieux, Monet s wife and
mother to his son was, strangely enough, depicted as the visitor, while a neighbor posed as her true
role; the mother. The use of such personal characters can be attributed to Monet s attempt to secure the
psychic space necessary to look at his models and paint his picture 3. Wagner is referencing the
emotional conflicts Monet suffered which were onset through his depictions of recurrent scenes of
everyday life and when he was, in a sense, forced to stare at the models before him for extended
periods of time. It seems as if Monet attempted to cover up his method in coping with his ailments
through Doncieux s placement of visitor rather than her native role of mother. Monet began to change
his style from figure painting to landscape pieces. This change was onset through Monet s realization
that landscape scenes would allow for him to keep all his personal problems associated with painting
hidden away and completely under control. Monet s new found freedom from his conflicts

Kassatly Chtaura was established in 1974 by the President and CEO Akram Kassatly. Armed with a
degree in winemaking from Dijon, France, Kassatly works on continuing his father s footsteps and
who had found his wine since 1919, creating a legacy in winemaking of his own. Then he was

Becoming a Wildlife Biologist: A Guide to Attaining the Expert Level Everyone wants to be an expert

viewpoints on how to achieve success in the field of wildlife biology. First of all, a wildlife biologist

and their natural habitats (Summary, 2014). They may work in the field or in a lab setting, depending

Problem solving skills and the collaboration of ideas allow a wildlife biologist to view the data and
create a common solution that will help all or most of the involved species. These scientists must also
be patient and wait for data to support or not support a potential theory. Justin Brashares is a good
example of problem solving and meticulously looking at the data. In 1998, Brashares went to Africa to
study antelope behavior only to find nearly no antelope (Nijhuis, 2014). Just as the Ghanaian farmers
and the data told him, as fish harvesting became less successful, hunters harvested more antelope and
other species, which in turn resulted in more baboons (because of nearly no predation), and children
staying home from school to protect their family farms from the baboons (Nijhuis, 2014). Also, the
decreasing fish industry was resulting in a higher rate of child slavery (Nijhuis, 2014). These data
findings explained the decline in antelope and how this related to the bigger problem. He had to
thoroughly look at the data to find the true cause in the wildlife decline and try to solve the problem in
a way that benefited all areas of this issue. Wildlife Biologists have to problem solve and collaborate
ideas to find the true cause of a problem and find a realistic

Flat Tax Reform
There is an issue that has plagued the United States even prior to the founding of the nation. That issue
is fair taxation. While the American Colonists were being taxed unfairly without parliamentary
representation, average modern Americans are being taxed unfairly without legal representation. Some
believe that the progressive tax code employed by the United States is fair as the wealthy pay a higher
marginal tax rate. The operative word there being marginal. As the upper class typically have a much
lower effective tax rate since they are able to afford tax attorneys who are able to find many
deductions that average citizens are unaware of. Mitt Romney is a prime example of low effective
rates of taxation. According to CNN Money, Mitt Romney ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These range from an increase in labor supply to faster economic growth. Dr. Andreas Peichl wrote an
article detailing the expected results of a flat tax system. He based his expectations upon the various
countries that currently employ such a system. The increase in labor supply can be explained by
following the economic law of supply, which states that the supply of a good will increase as the price
increases. Thus, as taxes are lowered and families are able to bring home more income, more people
are willing to search for work. By stimulating the job market, the economy as a whole will be
stimulated, as more families will have greater expendable incomes. Another effect that a simpler tax
code will have is that more Americans will be able to reap the full benefits of the tax code. By
eliminating itemized deductions taxation becomes more equal. In a chart published by the Tax
Foundation, of those making less than fifty thousand dollars, only eighteen percent made use of
itemized deductions. By simplifying the tax code the rate of compliance would increase. This is caused
by the shrinking of the tax code from seventy thousand pages down to at most ten. In addition to
raising compliance, by simplifying the tax code, it becomes a more equal system of taxation, as each
would pay the same marginal rate, however, due to the generous exemption there would be an
inconsistency between the marginal and

Microsoft And Its Constituent Operating Units
Using a broad variety of academic and industry sources, our team has conducted extensive
background research on Microsoft and its constituent operating units. On the basis of our analysis of
the challenges facing these units, jointly and severally, we are proposing Microsoft immediately
initiate a comprehensive shift in the strategic direction of its Entertainment and Devices business unit.
Microsoft s inadequate response to the iPhone era mobile revolution has seen it languish behind its
main competitors in the consumer electronics space; in Q2 of 2014, the Windows Phone accounted for
only 2.5% of the 301.3 million unit shipments worldwide (IDC, 2014). Likewise, while Q4 2014
Xbox console sales were up 14% over Q3, the competing Sony platform sold 70% more consoles
during the same period (Harradence, 2014; Nelva, 2014). Microsoft s devices have failed to command
sufficient market attention to ensure the company s status as a major player in consumer technologies.
Growing market share in mobile and gaming has become a strategic imperative of the highest
importance.
We have identified three areas of pressing concern that simultaneously represent growth opportunities.
First, Microsoft must rededicate itself to building first party software that fosters creativity and
improves the lives of users. This continues Microsoft s tradition of creating dominant, functional
platforms across a variety of hardware and contexts, as it did with Windows in the PC era. Second, by

The Czech Republic As We Know It
The current Czech Republic as we know it, was established in January of 1993 when Czechoslovakia
split into two independent countries. The peaceful separation created the Czech Republic and an
independent Slovakia. The history the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the once Czechoslovakia is rich
and full of turmoil.
History
The indigenous population of Czechoslovakia were the Slavic tribes. These tribes were made up of
West Slavs tribes who were the Poles, the Czechs and the Slovaks. The East Slavs tribes consisted of
Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusian s. The South Slavs tribes consisted of Bulgarians, Croats,
Macedonians Serbs and Slovenians. In 550 BC the Slavs began settling in the eastern Alps and by 800
BC Christianity was spreading across the Slovene lands. In 962 the Holy Roman Empire was
established and in 1085 Vrastislav II became the first Czech king which started the Premyslid dynasty.
The Premyslid dynasty ended with the death of King Wenceslas III in 1306. In 1414 Jan Hus, an
outspoken Czech, started speaking out against the corruption in the Catholic Church. Jan would
conduct sermons in Czech so the regular citizens could understand the message. Unfortunately Jan
was to outspoken and was burnt at the stake one year later in the year 1415. The Hussite Wars

How Does It End To The Romanticism Of War
World War I has cultivated a mythology around itself, and that mythology, although it drew from real
experiences, has distorted the truth into an exaggerated and generalized story of the war. This
collective narrative can be loosely defined as a generation of young, idealistic, innocent men, who
took up arms in the defence of democracy. Relying on concepts like honour, glory and duty as
justifications for war, they were routinely slaughtered in unnecessary, unsuccessful battles by
incompetent, moronic, generals. Veterans of this conflict were disillusioned by the war and saw their
real enemies as the old men who had sent them to die in this pointless conflict. Returning home they
rejected the old society, separating themselves from the past and their cultural ... Show more content

Don Crow Laws Segregation Laws And Using Music As An Civil...
Throughout the late 19th century, African Americans did not have the same rights as white people,
which led towards the establishment of Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow laws segregated blacks from whites
in a political, educational, and social setting, which created unfair treatment towards people of color.
In Devil in the Grove, four African American boys, known as the Groveland Boys, were falsely
accused of raping a white woman in Florida, which was known as the Groveland case. Thurgood
Marshall, who was a part of The National Association of Advancement for Colored People (NAACP),
helped to solve the Groveland case, as he was an advocate in fighting against Jim Crow segregation.
The labor force, vigilante groups, and legal precedents led towards the establishment of Jim Crow
policies by segregating black people from white people in public areas. African Americans contested
these policies by creating legal organizations that overturned cases supporting segregation laws and
using music as a way to protest against the Jim Crow policies. In the labor force, there was pressure
and unfair treatment towards African Americans, which was a foundational element in establishing
Jim Crow laws. Gilbert King wrote, McCarthy learned that whites in Groveland (who accounted for
about 60 percent of the town s population of one thousand) were tolerant of blacks, as long as they
continued to work in white owned citrus groves. The Negroes do most of the work around here

I want to learn to take risks. I want to change my attitude about taking chances. Assessing my

How much of that success is a result of staying on comfortable ground?
I began wondering about the range of my abilities when I attended Northwestern University s Theater

Set Design was my first choice, followed by Costumes, and finally Stage Lighting. Much to my
dismay, I was assigned to the lighting crew. Though disappointed, I tried to stay open minded. I knew
nothing about lighting, but followed the slogan which kept repeating in my head: Dare to fail....
By the third lighting session, I had discovered a new passion: I was eager to learn everything I could
about lights. Having always been a performer who enjoyed the limelight, I had never realized the skill
required to create it properly. In my free time I climbed the catwalks, memorized cues, circuited
lamps, or changed gels. My competence was recognized when I was selected head light board operator
for the final production of the summer.
If the choice to study lighting had not been made for me, I would have missed an enriching
opportunity. The experience taught me to take more risks, rather than to follow the most certain path
to success. The exposure made me realize how limited my perspective had been in approaching new
situations. The choice that was made for me, undesirable as it seemed at the outset, taught me to
embrace new experiences and ideas.
I believe that the past is prologue. In college I will take more risks, convinced that the potential
rewards outweigh my fear of failure. I have stopped trying to select a major, and am committed to

STATEMENT of OBJECTIVE: The intention of the following individual action plan is to recognize
my leadership strengths and identify areas where I am able to further develop and strengthen my
leadership qualities. The challenge within the action plan is to be cognizant of my strengths and
weaknesses within the context of my professional and personal life allowing for me to constructively
work towards strengthening my weaknesses. The deeper subset to the challenge will require that truth

I do need to recognize that other scholars limit emotional intelligence to a much narrower set of
factors (qtd. In Cameron and Whetten, 2011, p.63), which would not allow for a final and complete
assessment of leadership based on the exclusivity of analysis. I have chosen to pursue the Goleman
framework for guiding and addressing the specific challenge to complete the action plan based on the
clarity and broader scope of evaluation provided by Goleman. I would like to establish a correlation
between Mayer and Salovey as they relate to Goleman. I believe that self awareness is an interior
component of emotional intelligence this being the primary distinction between Goleman and Mayer
amp; Salvoy. The ability of emotional intelligence centers on a person s skill in recognizing emotional
information and carrying out abstract reasoning using this emotional information. More specifically,
emotional intelligence involves the abilities to perceive, appraise, and express emotion; to access
and/or generate feelings when they facilitate thought; to understand emotion and emotional
knowledge; and to regulate emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth (Mayer amp;
Salovey, 1997, p.10). I believe that without an understanding of Mayer and Salovey it is difficult to
use Goleman s framework. I believe that the two approaches are codependent of one another. I assert
that in this instance it will be acknowledged that we

A Brief Note On Glucose And Its Effect On The Body
Glucose Lab Paper John Chung Physiology 281 Professor Varamini November 7, 2016 Chung 2
Introduction In the modern society people live in today, people have started to take in good cuisines. It
became more than just a necessity. Eating and consuming foods are required for every individual as
people need it to survive, but too much can be taken in which then, results in harming the body.
Desserts such as cake and ice cream are sweet because they have a high concentration of sugar. Sugar
comes in many forms such as glucose, fructose, maltose, and galactose. An important sugar, glucose,
is made up of one sugar molecule. Glucose stores ATP and uses it to maintain homeostasis. (Food
Insight, 2015). ATP is energy source and comes from in taking food. It is also a source of energy for
cells throughout the body. This energy helps the cells carry out metabolism, synthesis of
macromolecules, and active transport. (Live Strong, 2015). Glucose is also needed to execute several
functions of the human body, such as brain function and regulation of food intake. When people intake
sugars, their bodies break the sugar down into glucose and too much glucose can harm the body
resulting in diabetes (Anderson et al, 2002). Diabetes is a major cause of kidney disease, non
traumatic lower limb amputations, heart disease, blindness, and stroke (American Diabetes
Association [ADA], 2014). The National Diabetes Statistics Report estimates that there are about 29.1

Analysis Of Sam Raimi s Spider Man 2
In Sam Raimi s Spider Man 2 it shows a struggling college student; Peter Parker, becoming enthralled

problems for the people around him to which he cares greatly for. As for my thoughts I believed each

Regardless the first scenes of the movie demonstrate his everyday struggle to fill his role as Spider

this is later explored by his end of day at Aunt May s house where all the supporting characters meet.
These characters being Harry Osborn, Mary Jane, and Aunt May. Direct conflict between Harry and
Peter is shown in where Harry questions Peter directly about him missing his calls, and to the dismay
to Harry, Peter answers with a I ve been busy . Further pushing the theme of Peter being unable to

The Judicial Branch of the American Government as a...
The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private
property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be
compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where
public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders
the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that
legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private
property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the
judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to
successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a
look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes.
Throughout American history, the definition, allocation and protection of property rights has been one
of the most controversial and combative issues. According to Armen and Demsetz (1973), ...a private
property right includes the right to delegate, rent, or sell any portion of the rights by exchange or gift
at whatever price the owner determines (provided someone is willing to pay that price). If person A is
not allowed to buy some rights from Person B and Person B therefore is not allowed to

Fahrenheit 451 And Tobias Wolfr Swot Analysis
Many people have important jobs because they are trustworthy, they have great ideas, and they know
how to take control of different situations. On the other hand, some people in charge are not worthy of
their spot and do not always do or say what is right. In In Pharaoh s Army, Tobias Wolff shows that the
authorities are not always in the right place to make a decision. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury has a
different way of showing that the authorities aren t always right. In Fahrenheit 451, the authorities
often lie to make their new reality easier for the community or people to cope with the situation.
Tobias Wolff and Ray Bradbury both have a very different way of portraying thoughts, but they both
give the same message when the authorities are not always right. Pete Landon is a Foreign Service
Officer and he does not always do what is right, especially to the people around him. Pete started off
pretty tough in Vietnam, starting out as a translator. He has progressed through the years and moved
up ranks. He enjoys his life in Vietnam and actually is in favor of the war. Pete has one of the nicest
houses in Vietnam for an American. He often has no work anymore and just travels around visiting
people. He also always has very fancy and elegant dinners consisting of Filet mignon and wine.
Everyone loves Pete and they almost think of him as a celebrity. If Pete likes you, you re cool. When
Tobias and Pete were hanging out, Pete said Tobias did not have a real job in the war.

Essay on Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It
Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It
The Federalist Papers provide priceless insight into the spirits of both human government and human
nature. In fact, The Federalist Papers repeatedly acknowledge a basic truth of human existence:
humans are naturally selfish, hostile, and full of such characteristics that hinder the continuation of
peaceful, harmonious existence. The corruption of the human race permeates even the strongest
governments, as history has shown time and again. Ironic as it is, governments must take precautions
to guard themselves, even from their very own members, from the very thing that all governments are
meant to remedy: the shortcomings of human nature. The means by which The Federalists ... Show

Later, Madison expounds on this idea:
As there is a degree of depravity in mankind which requires a certain degree of circumspection and
distrust, so there are other qualities in human nature which justify a certain portion of esteem and
confidence. Republican government presupposes the existence of these qualities in a higher degree
than any other form (339).
Madison markedly declares that the republican form of government is the optimal instrument for
suppressing the flaws of human nature and for bringing forth those qualities in man that render him
supreme over all forms of life. Furthermore, Madison advocates republican government as the precise
remedy for the impending situation that was becoming more and more urgent in 1787. Nonetheless,
the fact remains that any government formed by man will be imperfect. Madison states in paper ten,
As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it, different opinions
will be formed (123). Furthermore, A zeal for different opinions concerning religion,...government,
and many other points;...an attachment to different leaders ambitiously contending for pre eminence
and power; or to persons whose fortunes have been interesting to the human passion, have divided
mankind into parties (124). The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man (124).
Hence, men will always

Without getting too far into the science of how an electric car works, battery power is a much more
efficient use of energy. One of the biggest reasons is because it conserves gasoline. The conservation
of gasoline is a great concern for many reasons, one of which is that the amount of money spent on
refining oil to produce the fuel is great. The oil industry plays a large role in the auto industry. Oil
currently hovers above $100 per barrel. Oil is a necessity for operating machinery, enabling a car to
function, and manufacturing gasoline. According to the California Energy Commission, as of March
10, 2014, the price of crude oil was $2.55. Ten years before that, the price was $.84, and in March
1999, the price was $.29. These prices reflect the daily market price for crude oil from the Alaska
North Slope (California Energy Commission, 2014). These figures show that oil is getting
increasingly expensive to produce, and that is reflected at the pump. Hybrids have the ability to use
battery and gas power, and electric cars use no gasoline at all. For this reason, electric cars are on their
way to becoming more and more appealing to consumers. Another reason that battery power is a
superior source of energy over gasoline is that electric cars produce little to no pollution. Cars that use
electricity to operate produce no tailpipe emissions. In a society where pollution control is becoming

Describe The Relationship Between Organelles And Eukaryotes

Firstly, the cytoskeleton is one of the many membrane bound organelles which is only found in
eukaryotic cells and not prokaryotic counterparts. The cytoskeleton is a series of proteins within the
cell which provides the cell with shape and support. The cytoskeleton also mediates some aspects of
movement by helping the cell move in its environment and by controlling the movement of other cell
components. A second organelle which eukaryotes possess and prokaryotes do not possess includes
the Golgi apparatus. The Golgi apparatus initiates Golgi bodies towards modifying, sorting, and

Our aim is to provide critical reviews on the latest, most significant developments in selected topic
areas that are at the cutting edge of the application of computers in fisheries and their application to
the conservation and management of aquatic resources. In many cases, these are the same authors who
contributed to the first edition, so the decade of perspective they provide is unique and insightful.
Many of the topics in this book cover areas that were predicted in 1989 to be important in the future
(Walters 1989) and continue to be at the forefront of applications that drive our science forward:
image processing, stock assessment, simulation and games, and networking. The chapters that follow
update these areas as well as introduce several new chapter topic areas. While we recognize the
challenge of attempting to present up to date information given the rapid pace of change in computers
and the long time lines for publishing books, we hope that the chapters in this book taken together, can
be valuable where they suggest emerging trends and future directions that impact the role computers
are likely to serve in fisheries research.

Regarding distribution of the hydrolases involved, the major contributors to aspirin hydrolysis activity
outside of plasma are human CES 2 in the intestine and human CES 1 in the liver. In plasma, aspirin is
hydrolysed by BChE, PON, and albumin.
In rabbit plasma, there is a distinctly high concentration of CES, seemingly due to the low expression
of BChE, indicating an inverse relationship between CES and BChE levels (Bahar and Imai, 2013).
PON and BChE expression in all species are ubiquitous, with especially high expression in primates
(Bahar et al., 2012).
In humans, it is estimated that, for aspirin hydrolysis in plasma, BChE is approximately 30%
responsible for activity, and has low and high affinity binding sites for calcium and/or magnesium
(Bahar and Imai, 2013). PON is approximately 50% accountable, requiring calcium for substrate
hydrolysis, and albumin is 16%, acting as a plasma carrier protein by binding, and shows esterase like
activity. In rabbits, CES, due to its extensive hydrolytic ability (Bahar et al., 2012), makes it the
primary contributor to aspirin hydrolysis in rabbit plasma (Bahar and Imai, 2013).
Figure 1 consequently proves the presence of hydrolases most likely CES in the tested rabbit serum
solution. It was an effective medium in which aspirin hydrolysis could

Ideal Man Essay
« You would be so much more the man » The play Macbeth published in 1603 by Shakespeare
presents the rise and the decadence, the decline of power of King Macbeth. After killing, in order,
King Duncan, his two chamberlains, Macbeth s general Banquo, Lady Macduff and her children,
Macbeth manages to secure his power until Macduff battles with him and finally kills him. In the play,
Shakespeare indicates features that make up an ideal man. Through various character s representations
and actions the reader can to discern Shakespeare s Ideal Man. By defining his Ideal man and its
opposites, Shakespeare introduces the common theme of masculinity. Firstly, Macbeth symbolizes the

As a consequence a model of manliness should exemplify the ideal man Shakespeare wants to define.
For Instance, in the beginning of the play Macbeth is feminized by his wife Lady Macbeth therefore
he is not represent as the masculine character of the play. He is not thinking about honour, keeping
promises, ruthlessness and therefore bravery. We can observe this attempt of making inferior and
feminizing Macbeth by Lady Macbeth when she questions his masculinity in act 1 scene 7: When you
durst do it, then you were a men; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the
man. She knows that this argument is effective on Macbeth; as a result he will commit the murder. On
the other hand, Banquo is presented as the masculine character of the play. As masculinity means for
Shakespeare knowing the difference between right and wrong, obeying conscience and knowing the
moral, we can say therefore that Banquo is masculine, and hence, the ideal man of the plot. Indeed, he
is not tempted as Macbeth by the witches and by their predictions. In conclusion, throughout the play
Macbeth, Shakespeare tries and manages to give us a definition of an Ideal Man for him. Macbeth
embodies the opposition and Banquo the true masculine, ideal man: The model should be loyal,
intelligent, brave, cautious, clever, and obeying the morality. Shakespeare s definition anticipates his
era, these elements will come up later: we

Sydney Carton Hero
The ideas of heroism in a Victorian sense are very different than those ideas of a hero in Anglo Saxon
literature. The most obvious hero in A Tale of Two Cities is Sydney Carton, but he emerges very
differently than Beowulf. It was never clearly mentioned in the novel that Carton was a hero, so
Dickens expected the reader to infer that that was so. It also wasn t until book three that Carton
became a truly dynamic character and ultimately became the hero he sought to be. Careless and
slovenly if not debauched (Dickens 55) was how Dickens described Carton s character in book one.

Privatization of Social Services Essay
The Benefits of Privatization of Social Services
Contracting out is the process through which public organizations contract with private sector
organizations to provide services normally provided by public agencies. It is a form of privatization,
which is defined as any shift of activity or functions from the state to the private sector, more
specifically, the shift of production of goods or services from public to private. (Starr, 5) Privatization
reduces the role of government and increases the role of private sector agencies. However, public

structure dictates that formal rules and process are followed in order to reach the organization s goals.
Therefore, in order to effectively contract out and maintain and effective organization, management
must engage in the practice of well known management principles (POSDCORB). Practicing the
principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting,
management can make sound decisions about the implementation and management of contracts. The
effectiveness and efficiency in which the agency is run and the manner in which the contract is

  • 2. PISA Response Paper Since, the starting of PISA the results from the assessment along with TIMMS, and PIRLS have received a number of mixed reactions from countries around the world. According to Patrick Gonzales a research analyst at the National Center of Education and Statistics the United States 2012 PISA findings were not surprising. According to PISA 2012, the United States currently ranks 17th in reading, 27th in mathematics, and 20th in science (PISA 2012 US, 2012). The large scale assessments Germany had partaken in were in 1962 to 1972 with the First International Science Study and again in 1995 with TIMMS. Although, the release of the 1995 results of TIMMS indicated flaws in Germany s educational system the release of the PISA 2000 made an impact in the country because it reaffirm the outcomes from TIMMS. Edelgard Bulmahn notes, a country with the economic and political significance of Germany belongs at the top of the league (2002). The results from the first PISA study encourage and created reform across Germany. Some of these reforms included the formation of National Standards and National Assessments, increasing the number of schools that offer all day schooling, and reforms to improve equity and promote quality in education (PISA 2012 Germany, 2012). To promote quality in education and equity Germany sponsored programs to include teacher training on intercultural competence, funding of SINUS to increase efficiency of mathematics and science instruction, and the creation of of Lesen in Deustchland (LiD) to promote reading skills of students (Ertl, ... Human Nature In Survival In Auschwitz By Primo Levi In Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi uses characterization to describe human nature, showing the reader how human nature and the nature of Auschwitz contradict and manifest. Beginning with how human nature manifests to Levi and transitions as it moves through the story. Firstly, in Survival in Auschwitz Primo Levi begins to learn how our human nature manifests in the most desperate and nerve wracking of times. Sooner or later in life everyone discovers that perfect happiness is unrealizable, but there are a few who pause to consider the antithesis: that perfect unhappiness is equally unattainable. In this short excerpt Levi uses thoughtful time to reflect upon this subject, though common considering he is quite quizzical. He uses balanced syntax to form an antithesis, as he even state in the quote. Furthermore, he is quite truthful in his analysis of happiness, in human nature, we can never achieve the complete happiness or even complete unhappiness. Simply, we can only reach a certain extent of content and a limit of depression. In a way, this quote characterizes our essence of human nature and our unattainability of ... Only profound amazement: how can one hit a man without anger? (1.16. Survival In Auschwitz) Analysis: Levi uses description to give his account of emotions and the event. Also, he used thoughtful yet dumbfoundead tone, he was halted in amazement as to how one could harm another yet he had done no wrong. • 5. King Richard Essay King Richard My report is on Richard I, byname Richard the Lion Hearted. He was born September 8, 1157 in Oxford, England. He died on April 6, 1199 in Chalus, England. His knightly manner and his prowess in the Third Crusade(1189 92) made him a popular king in his own time, as well as the hero of countless romantic legends. He has been viewed less kindly by more recent historians and scholars. Richard was the third son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he was given the duchy of Aquitaine, his mother s inheritance, at the age of 11 and was enthroned as duke at Poitiers in 1172. To prevent the German Emperor Henry VI from ruling their country, the Sicilians had elected the native, Tancred of Lecce, who had imprisoned the late king s wife, Joan of England(Richard s sister), and denied her possession of her dower. By the Treaty of Messina, Richard obtained for Joan her release and her dower, acknowledged Tancred as king of Sicily, declared Arthur of Brittany(Richard s nephew)to be his own heir, and provided for Arthur to marry Tancred s daughter. This treaty infuriated the Germans, who were also taking part in the Third Crusade, and it incited Richard s brother, John, to treachery and rebellion. Richard joined the other crusaders at Acre on June 8, 1191, conquered Cyprus on his way there. While at Limassol in Cyprus, Richard married(May 12)Berengaria of Navarre. Acre fell in July 1191, and on September 7, Richard s brilliant victory at Arsuf put the crusaders in possession of Joppa. Twice Richard led his forces to within o few miles of Jerusalem. • 6. The Lack of Free Speech in the Military As a member of the United States military, there are times that the very freedoms that are being defended are not extended to those sailors and soldiers that are in charge of that task. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I find the limitation of speech for a member of the military to be contradictory at best. The very fact that members of the armed forces cannot speak freely about government officials, as well as government issues that affect their lives, seems to be controversial because it limits one of the freedoms these sailors and soldiers have vowed to protect. To oppose the right of free speech of any member of the military takes away from the importance of the job they do. It has been argued that a member of the military should be mindful of whom they work for and the chain of command that orders come from, and that any display of dissatisfaction can be seen as disobedience or even treason. I support members of the military being able to voice their thoughts on issues that impact their lives, as well as the lives of their families. There are a few reasons why I support this. Simply put, as Americans they have the right of freedom of speech. Given the responsibilities of these sailors and soldiers in their day to day jobs, they should be entrusted to know what to say and what not to say. Most people take for granted the right to speak one s mind, right or wrong, and have nearly no ramifications for doing so. When one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of The Electoral College The United States is considered the leader in promoting democratic values worldwide. For this very reason, the United States has engaged in conflicts and negotiations around the world to allow the people of different countries the ability to freely and directly elect their leaders. However, the United States remains the only democratic country in the world that does not allow the people to directly elect their President. Instead, the United States opts for the undemocratic institution of the Electoral College, in which electors from each state are chosen and these electors are the actual people that cast the votes that decide the presidential election. The Founders set up a system in Article II Section I of the Constitution that guarantees, each state shall appoint... a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress, and that, the Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be President, if such Number be a Majority of the Number of Electors appointed (Constitution). This outdated system of electing the leader of the free world should be abolished in favor of a direct popular vote in which the winner must receive at least 40% of the vote. If 40% is not reached, a runoff election between the top two vote getters will be held a month after the November election to determine who becomes the President. Fig. 3 depicts the PDF and contour plots for OWB7. Figs. 3a and b, represent the PDF for the firebrands at 4 meter and 18 meters from the fire front respectively. Considering Fig. 3c, we can realize that the correlation between mass and projected area of firebrand is stronger than projected area and the traveling distance of the brands. This fact is more obvious at closer distances. Moreover, the analysis of results of this experiment shows that larger brands can fly further away from the fire which sometimes is not in agreement with other experiments. The available data at 4 meter and 18 meter from the fire has been compared in Fig. 3d. We can observe that heavier brands could travel further with the wind. In addition, it is understandable that the mean and standard deviation values for mass and area of the firebrands at further distances are larger which means that we have more variety of sizes there. The PDF and contour plots for IWB1 are plotted in Fig. 4 and Fig.4a shows the PDF for both dry and wet trays. Since we did not have access to individual brand information, using the presented table in their paper, Table 7 here, we assume the average value of area for each category and for S 4, we assumed the brand area is 5 cm2. • 9. Diction And Views In Herman Melville s Benito Cereno It is a cliché known by many: Always trust your gut. In other words, listen to your intuition as first impressions matter. This saying reigns true in many works of literature, including Herman Melville s 1855 novel, Benito Cereno. Throughout the first part of the story, the main character, Captain Delano, struggles with whether or not to trust a newly encountered ship, the San Dominick, its inhabitants, or its captain, Benito Cereno. While the novel is third person omniscient, it is clear that Delano has his doubts about the foreign ship from the beginning due to the original description of the San Dominick. Melville writes in the third person omniscient point of view in order to allow the audience to come to their own conclusions about the ship, but also heavily utilizes diction and sentence structure to give readers clues about what to expect from the characters and plot. To give the passage context, Delano is finally seeing the San Dominick clearly for the first time, not yet having met the passengers of the ship. Delano is alone and it can be assumed that the description is his point of view, due to the fact that the anonymous narrator appears to be pulling these images and renditions from Delano s mind. Because of this, the reader is encouraged to think ahead about the ship s culture, its passengers, and the types of things Delano will encounter if he decides to approach and explore it. Throughout the passage, the author makes use of an overload of adjectives, all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eventually Monet began to accompany [Eugène] Boudin as the older artist . . . worked outdoors, . . . this truthful painting, Monet later claimed, had determined his path as an artist. Le Dejeuner proved to be of one of the more daunting pieces for Monet. Wagner claims that Le Dejeuner was so difficult for Monet to produce because she regards the piece as among the most personal of Monet s career . The tremendous personalization of Le Dejeuner argued by Wagner is supported by the identifications of the models used to create the figures portrayed in the scene. One of the models used include Monet s son Jean, who is depicted as the baby; Doncieux, Monet s wife and mother to his son was, strangely enough, depicted as the visitor, while a neighbor posed as her true role; the mother. The use of such personal characters can be attributed to Monet s attempt to secure the psychic space necessary to look at his models and paint his picture 3. Wagner is referencing the emotional conflicts Monet suffered which were onset through his depictions of recurrent scenes of everyday life and when he was, in a sense, forced to stare at the models before him for extended periods of time. It seems as if Monet attempted to cover up his method in coping with his ailments through Doncieux s placement of visitor rather than her native role of mother. Monet began to change his style from figure painting to landscape pieces. This change was onset through Monet s realization that landscape scenes would allow for him to keep all his personal problems associated with painting hidden away and completely under control. In 1998, Brashares went to Africa to study antelope behavior only to find nearly no antelope (Nijhuis, 2014). Just as the Ghanaian farmers and the data told him, as fish harvesting became less successful, hunters harvested more antelope and other species, which in turn resulted in more baboons (because of nearly no predation), and children staying home from school to protect their family farms from the baboons (Nijhuis, 2014). Also, the decreasing fish industry was resulting in a higher rate of child slavery (Nijhuis, 2014). These data findings explained the decline in antelope and how this related to the bigger problem. These range from an increase in labor supply to faster economic growth. Dr. Andreas Peichl wrote an article detailing the expected results of a flat tax system. He based his expectations upon the various countries that currently employ such a system. The increase in labor supply can be explained by following the economic law of supply, which states that the supply of a good will increase as the price increases. Thus, as taxes are lowered and families are able to bring home more income, more people are willing to search for work. By stimulating the job market, the economy as a whole will be stimulated, as more families will have greater expendable incomes. Another effect that a simpler tax code will have is that more Americans will be able to reap the full benefits of the tax code. By eliminating itemized deductions taxation becomes more equal. In a chart published by the Tax Foundation, of those making less than fifty thousand dollars, only eighteen percent made use of itemized deductions. By simplifying the tax code the rate of compliance would increase. This is caused by the shrinking of the tax code from seventy thousand pages down to at most ten. Microsoft And Its Constituent Operating Units Using a broad variety of academic and industry sources, our team has conducted extensive background research on Microsoft and its constituent operating units. On the basis of our analysis of the challenges facing these units, jointly and severally, we are proposing Microsoft immediately initiate a comprehensive shift in the strategic direction of its Entertainment and Devices business unit. Microsoft s inadequate response to the iPhone era mobile revolution has seen it languish behind its main competitors in the consumer electronics space; in Q2 of 2014, the Windows Phone accounted for only 2.5% of the 301.3 million unit shipments worldwide (IDC, 2014). Likewise, while Q4 2014 Xbox console sales were up 14% over Q3, the competing Sony platform sold 70% more consoles during the same period (Harradence, 2014; Nelva, 2014). Microsoft s devices have failed to command sufficient market attention to ensure the company s status as a major player in consumer technologies. Growing market share in mobile and gaming has become a strategic imperative of the highest importance. We have identified three areas of pressing concern that simultaneously represent growth opportunities. First, Microsoft must rededicate itself to building first party software that fosters creativity and improves the lives of users. This continues Microsoft s tradition of creating dominant, functional platforms across a variety of hardware and contexts, as it did with Windows in the PC era. Second, by ... • 19. Don Crow Laws Segregation Laws And Using Music As An Civil... Throughout the late 19th century, African Americans did not have the same rights as white people, which led towards the establishment of Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow laws segregated blacks from whites in a political, educational, and social setting, which created unfair treatment towards people of color. In Devil in the Grove, four African American boys, known as the Groveland Boys, were falsely accused of raping a white woman in Florida, which was known as the Groveland case. Thurgood Marshall, who was a part of The National Association of Advancement for Colored People (NAACP), helped to solve the Groveland case, as he was an advocate in fighting against Jim Crow segregation. The labor force, vigilante groups, and legal precedents led towards the establishment of Jim Crow policies by segregating black people from white people in public areas. African Americans contested these policies by creating legal organizations that overturned cases supporting segregation laws and using music as a way to protest against the Jim Crow policies. In the labor force, there was pressure and unfair treatment towards African Americans, which was a foundational element in establishing Jim Crow laws. A Brief Note On Glucose And Its Effect On The Body Glucose Lab Paper John Chung Physiology 281 Professor Varamini November 7, 2016 Chung 2 Introduction In the modern society people live in today, people have started to take in good cuisines. It became more than just a necessity. Eating and consuming foods are required for every individual as people need it to survive, but too much can be taken in which then, results in harming the body. Desserts such as cake and ice cream are sweet because they have a high concentration of sugar. Sugar comes in many forms such as glucose, fructose, maltose, and galactose. An important sugar, glucose, is made up of one sugar molecule. Glucose stores ATP and uses it to maintain homeostasis. (Food Insight, 2015). ATP is energy source and comes from in taking food. It is also a source of energy for cells throughout the body. This energy helps the cells carry out metabolism, synthesis of macromolecules, and active transport. (Live Strong, 2015). Glucose is also needed to execute several functions of the human body, such as brain function and regulation of food intake. When people intake sugars, their bodies break the sugar down into glucose and too much glucose can harm the body resulting in diabetes (Anderson et al, 2002). • 25. The Judicial Branch of the American Government as a... The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes. Throughout American history, the definition, allocation and protection of property rights has been one of the most controversial and combative issues. According to Armen and Demsetz (1973), ...a private property right includes the right to delegate, rent, or sell any portion of the rights by exchange or gift at whatever price the owner determines (provided someone is willing to pay that price). If person A is not allowed to buy some rights from Person B and Person B therefore is not allowed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Fahrenheit 451 And Tobias Wolfr Swot Analysis Many people have important jobs because they are trustworthy, they have great ideas, and they know how to take control of different situations. On the other hand, some people in charge are not worthy of their spot and do not always do or say what is right. In In Pharaoh s Army, Tobias Wolff shows that the authorities are not always in the right place to make a decision. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury has a different way of showing that the authorities aren t always right. In Fahrenheit 451, the authorities often lie to make their new reality easier for the community or people to cope with the situation. Tobias Wolff and Ray Bradbury both have a very different way of portraying thoughts, but they both give the same message when the authorities are not always right. Pete Landon is a Foreign Service Officer and he does not always do what is right, especially to the people around him. Pete started off pretty tough in Vietnam, starting out as a translator. He has progressed through the years and moved up ranks. He enjoys his life in Vietnam and actually is in favor of the war. Pete has one of the nicest houses in Vietnam for an American. He often has no work anymore and just travels around visiting people. He also always has very fancy and elegant dinners consisting of Filet mignon and wine. Essay on Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It The Federalist Papers provide priceless insight into the spirits of both human government and human nature. In fact, The Federalist Papers repeatedly acknowledge a basic truth of human existence: humans are naturally selfish, hostile, and full of such characteristics that hinder the continuation of peaceful, harmonious existence. The corruption of the human race permeates even the strongest governments, as history has shown time and again. Ironic as it is, governments must take precautions to guard themselves, even from their very own members, from the very thing that all governments are meant to remedy: the shortcomings of human nature. The means by which The Federalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later, Madison expounds on this idea: As there is a degree of depravity in mankind which requires a certain degree of circumspection and distrust, so there are other qualities in human nature which justify a certain portion of esteem and confidence. Republican government presupposes the existence of these qualities in a higher degree than any other form (339). Madison markedly declares that the republican form of government is the optimal instrument for suppressing the flaws of human nature and for bringing forth those qualities in man that render him supreme over all forms of life. Furthermore, Madison advocates republican government as the precise remedy for the impending situation that was becoming more and more urgent in 1787. Nonetheless, the fact remains that any government formed by man will be imperfect. Madison states in paper ten, As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it, different opinions will be formed (123). Furthermore, A zeal for different opinions concerning religion,...government, and many other points;...an attachment to different leaders ambitiously contending for pre eminence and power; or to persons whose fortunes have been interesting to the human passion, have divided mankind into parties (124). Ford pioneered the assembly line and increased auto production substantially. Today, Ford is one of the most successful auto makers in the world. According to the company, a key factor of success is the focus on building relationships and placing the consumer first. Understanding the consumer and how they view business helps Ford to continue improvement ( Marketing strategy , 2010). Ford is a first rate example of good marketing techniques. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without getting too far into the science of how an electric car works, battery power is a much more efficient use of energy. One of the biggest reasons is because it conserves gasoline. The conservation of gasoline is a great concern for many reasons, one of which is that the amount of money spent on refining oil to produce the fuel is great. The oil industry plays a large role in the auto industry. Oil currently hovers above $100 per barrel. Oil is a necessity for operating machinery, enabling a car to function, and manufacturing gasoline. According to the California Energy Commission, as of March 10, 2014, the price of crude oil was $2.55. Ten years before that, the price was $.84, and in March 1999, the price was $.29. These prices reflect the daily market price for crude oil from the Alaska North Slope (California Energy Commission, 2014). These figures show that oil is getting increasingly expensive to produce, and that is reflected at the pump. Hybrids have the ability to use battery and gas power, and electric cars use no gasoline at all. For this reason, electric cars are on their way to becoming more and more appealing to consumers. Another reason that battery power is a superior source of energy over gasoline is that electric cars produce little to no pollution. Cars that use electricity to operate produce no tailpipe emissions. In a society where pollution control is becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cytoskeleton also mediates some aspects of movement by helping the cell move in its environment and by controlling the movement of other cell components. A second organelle which eukaryotes possess and prokaryotes do not possess includes the Golgi apparatus. Regarding distribution of the hydrolases involved, the major contributors to aspirin hydrolysis activity outside of plasma are human CES 2 in the intestine and human CES 1 in the liver. In plasma, aspirin is hydrolysed by BChE, PON, and albumin. In rabbit plasma, there is a distinctly high concentration of CES, seemingly due to the low expression of BChE, indicating an inverse relationship between CES and BChE levels (Bahar and Imai, 2013). PON and BChE expression in all species are ubiquitous, with especially high expression in primates (Bahar et al., 2012). In humans, it is estimated that, for aspirin hydrolysis in plasma, BChE is approximately 30% responsible for activity, and has low and high affinity binding sites for calcium and/or magnesium (Bahar and Imai, 2013). PON is approximately 50% accountable, requiring calcium for substrate hydrolysis, and albumin is 16%, acting as a plasma carrier protein by binding, and shows esterase like activity. In rabbits, CES, due to its extensive hydrolytic ability (Bahar et al., 2012), makes it the primary contributor to aspirin hydrolysis in rabbit plasma (Bahar and Imai, 2013). Figure 1 consequently proves the presence of hydrolases most likely CES in the tested rabbit serum solution. It was an effective medium in which aspirin hydrolysis could ... For Instance, in the beginning of the play Macbeth is feminized by his wife Lady Macbeth therefore he is not represent as the masculine character of the play. We can observe this attempt of making inferior and feminizing Macbeth by Lady Macbeth when she questions his masculinity in act 1 scene 7: When you durst do it, then you were a men; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man. She knows that this argument is effective on Macbeth; as a result he will commit the murder. On the other hand, Banquo is presented as the masculine character of the play. As masculinity means for Shakespeare knowing the difference between right and wrong, obeying conscience and knowing the moral, we can say therefore that Banquo is masculine, and hence, the ideal man of the plot. Indeed, he is not tempted as Macbeth by the witches and by their predictions. In conclusion, throughout the play Macbeth, Shakespeare tries and manages to give us a definition of an Ideal Man for him.
