Hockley In Titanic
The Titanic Depth of the Heart of the Ocean
Ahh, open your heart to me, Rose, pleads Caledon Hockley of the young Rose
in James Cameron s film, Titanic, just after he gives her a most expensive
diamond. The actor Billy Zane plays Hockley as a callous, jaded, been there done
that sophisticate who seems to want her heart simply because he believes it is for sale
and he has a right to it. His blindness to higher motives in love totally disqualifies him
from being worthy of Rose DeWitt Bukater, played by Kate Winslet. But perhaps it is
also the opaque nature of love itself that defeats him. This scene between Hockley and
Rose is one of several ways in which Cameron develops the idea of the closed heart ... Show more

The crew is stumped. But then
Rose hears a newscast about it, sees her picture on TV and calls the ship, asking, I
was just wondering if you had found the heart of the ocean yet, Mr. Lovett?
The literal gem, then, serves to drive the plot. People explore wrecks for the
challenge and for scientific purposes, but Cameron has Brock Lovett, played by Bill
Paxton, and his salvage crew searching for a diamond. This motivation works on two
levels. It gives a reason for the dangerous and expensive dive that the people sitting in
the dark theater can appreciate. Many people in this materialistic world can relate to
and understand betting one s life and fortune on a diamond that rivals the Hope
diamond in value. On an artistic level, though, the search for material wealth parallels
the confidence that the Titanic s owners place in material goods and technology. And
of course, just as money and wealth by themselves fail to make life worthwhile for most
people, all of the confidence her owners and passengers mistakenly place in the
integrity of this man made ship cannot keep them warm in ice water.
In addition to driving the plot, the diamond functions on a figurative, symbolic
level. The gem represents the human heart, the repository and driving force behind
people s emotions. Toward the end of

China Saper Threat
Weak USA Cyber Policy vs China s Security Threat to the USA?
Abstract
A cyber spy network based mainly in China hacked into classified documents from government and
private organizations. One of the biggest questions still remains unanswered. Should the U.S.
Congress conduct an in depth assessment of Chinese cyber spying and consider imposing tougher
penalties on companies that benefit from industrial espionage. In this paper I will review china s cyber
threat and possible USA solutions to protect against the threat.
Could Weak USA Cyber Policy be the cause of China s Security Threat?
U.S. corporations and cyber security specialists have reported an daily attack of computer network

cyber policy has embraced this idea. The Plan declared that in order for it to succeed, government and
the private sector must work together in a partnership. However since the regulation has been in place
it has failed to provide the security necessary to protect U.S. critical infrastructure from a cyber attack.
Even Congress has been slow to act regarding almost all aspects of cyber policy (Wolf, J. 12 July,
2012). One of the problems facing a comprehensive cyber security bill is that computers have become
so omnipresent in our daily lives that they cross every sector of the economy. It is not surprising that
application of the laws of war to cyber attacks has recently been a popular topic in politics. Some have
even analyzed whether a cyber attack can constitute an armed attack, it can but, whether a cyber attack
with a specified effect constitutes a use of force. An example, if the U.S. could prove that Iran absolute
sent a computer virus that infected a Wall Street, would dropping a bomb on Iran be justify? A
responsible nation must always consider the possibilities of collateral damage in deciding whether an
act of self defense is justified, be it cyber or kinetic. While the United States must undoubtedly
increase its cyber defense capabilities, the nation cannot retreat behind a Line of firewalls. As in the
fight against terrorism, the United States must be vigilant and aggressive in the face of both cyber
attacks and

Examples Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
As technology continues to develop throughout time, humanity relies more and more on it.
Technology surrounds everyone today from the cars people drive, and the phones people are
constantly on. Technology is consuming our lives, and Ray Bradbury worries about our future. He
portrays this message in his short story The Veldt. In this short story, Bradbury creates a family who
live in a house with advanced technology. The purpose of the house is to make the families lives
easier, but the parents soon realize the damage they have done by letting their kids rely on technology
as another parent. Ray Bradbury uses personification and foreshadowing in The Veldt to show the
separation of parents and children because of neglect occurring from the dependence on technology.
Bradbury uses foreshadowing in the veldt to convey the growing separation of a family. He provides
information in the veldt that foreshadows the children s plans for their parents. For example, the dad
discovers his wallet in the nursery and Bradbury describe it as with drops of saliva on it, it had been
chewed, and there was blood smears on both sides (Bradbury 8). As the reader, it is simple to infer that
the parents are the ones getting devoured by the lions. This means that the children don t bother for
their parents anymore, and only show affliction for the house. Another example is when the dad finds
his wife s scarf covered in blood inside the nursery. As before, this foreshadows the split

Good Ole American Way Essay
Good Ole American Way Though many feel that the American education system is a model of success,
compared to the educational system of Finland, the American system is in dire need of reform. The
focus of these reforms should begin with mandatory recess, teacher salaries, and high stakes testing.
Recess should be a necessary part of the student s day. Teachers, who are the key to student s learning,
do not make they salary they deserve. Standardized testing is unfair because one test cannot determine
a student s ability. Recess is as important as classroom time. It is critical in development and social
interaction (Rochman). Students should be able to go blow off steam, run around for a half hour, let
out some energy halfway through their day. Recess can also teach young kids responsibility. If he or
she gets in trouble, the school can take it away from them. This teaches children that their actions have
consequences. It helps children practice conflict and resolution. Play time benefits extend beyond the
physical development in students but affects social, emotional and cognitive development,
(Rochman). After they have a break, they will be more able to focus on their studies. Who doesn t

The Importance Of Sickle Cell Anemia
An abundance of traits are attributed to genetics: whether or not your earlobes are attached, whether
you are a left over right hand clasper or not, and the color of your irises are only a few. Whether or not
you inherit the genes that cause sickle cell anemia also known as sickle cell disease and abbreviated
SCD is of more importance than the color of your eyes.
Sickle cell anemia is a disease that deals with hemoglobin, the protein that aids in oxygen transport
from organ to organ, in red blood cells. Normally red blood cells have a biconcave shape that
attributes to a maximum capacity of hemoglobin, but in cases of sickle cell anemia, red blood cells are
structured, fragile, and crescent shaped, minimizing the capacity of hemoglobin, creating an obstacle
for them not to rupture, and making it difficult for them to travel through some blood vessels. Because
of the irregular shape of effected red blood cells, people with sickle cell anemia are more prone to
form blood clots causing organ damage.
Since the capacity of hemoglobin in a red blood cell is affected by sickle cell anemia, people with the
disease experience oxygen deprivation to organs and tissues throughout the body, causing both
immense pain and potentially death due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the disease is autosomal (not sex linked), it can be inherited no matter the biological gender of a
child and it does not significantly affect one gender over the other. Interestingly, though, women with
Sickle Cell Anemia have been observed to live longer than men that have the disease. If a child
inherits the gene from one parent but not the other, they are said to be carrying the sickle cell trait, but
it is extremely rare that any symptoms are present in carriers. Carriers of sickle cell anemia typically
have a life expectancy the same as that of a person who is not affected by the disease

Osama Bin Laden Personality
A degree in business administration seems to be light years away from the subject of global terrorism,
but Osama bin Laden found a way to use his knowledge for the advancement of his final position in
life: terrorist CEO. A combination of factors led to his rise as the head of al Qaeda: personal charisma,
militant religious fervor, educational background, and a well funded bank account. To his disciples,
bin Laden is portrayed as a humble, pious man. When in view of his followers, he was careful to
cultivate an aura of humility. But that was just the image he wanted to portray to his followers. His
narcissistic personality needed devout followers, which was realized through his radical version of
Islam. He preyed upon the desperation of the masses and their oppression to captivate his followers.
His warped world view twisted the religion into an acceptable mode of violence, and embracing the
concept of jihad to realize his goals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

person with a mild personality in his early years, the fact that he came of age during a time of great
political unrest fueled by religious conflict left an impression upon him. He seemed to gravitate

Conflict Between UPS And Canada Post
The case started on January 19, 2000 when UPS served a Notice of Intent to Submit a Claim to
Arbitration to the Government of Canada for a breach of certain obligations under the North American
Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) (Notice of Intent, 2000). The real conflict is between UPS and
Canada Post, where UPS alleges that they participated in anti competitive practices that are illegal.
Canada Post Corporation was formed under the Canada Post Corporation Act in 1981. They have the
exclusive rights of operating a postal service in Canada, having a monopoly in letter mail (Notice of
Intent, 2000) Canada Post expanded into the courier business through Purolator, Priority Courier,
Skypak, and Xpresspost. It dominates the Canadian market with control of almost 50% of the courier
business in Canada. As Canada Post is a state enterprise under the Government of Canada, the
government is thus expected to regulate and ensure that Canada Post does not conduct any unfair
business practices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

employees of the subsidiaries like the delivery men who transported and delivered the parcels, also
received their salaries from Canada Post. Due to these benefits; Canada Post and its subsidiaries have
a huge competitive advantage over their competitors, such as UPS, in the private sector (Notice of

Approaches to Administration and Total Quality Management
Approaches to Administration Total Quality Management
Approaches to Administration
To some extent I have had experiences with each of these approaches to administration over the
course of my working career; however I have had the greatest exposure to the classical and the human
relations approaches. Of these the classical approach has been the most common. Many of the
organizations I have been associated with were organized around a formal organizational structure
with specific rules and expectations concerning procedures and processes. The organizational
hierarchy was well defined.
According to Willis W. Harman (2001) people who lack self motivation fit compliantly into this type
of organizational management structure. However, a growing fraction of the population, displaying
self actualization tendencies are bothered by the oppressiveness of hierarchical management and are
insistent on a more participatory role. Human relation approaches require decisions to be made with
the maximum feasible involvement of those whose lives are affected by the outcome. This form of
organizational management calls for the enhancement of humanistic values such as trust, honesty,
cooperation, caring and personal responsibility to develop personal relationships.
Harmon (2001) says that initially the human relation approach may seem to be inefficient, but
ultimately it tends to raise moral, raise the sense of being involved with meaningful work, boost
individual incentive, improve

Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards
Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as
recommended by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning
convergence issues and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of
dispute, the companies and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms
which are faster, less expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation.
Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor and
management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p. 202)
proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors independence
and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements. Controversy threatens the
success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency cost hence minimizing the
expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving the interest of the
shareholders.
Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims,
fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted
accounting practices.
How The Conflict Arises: In these cases, auditor s must inform their clients about their roles and the
responsibility of the companies accounting function against those of the external auditors. When the

My Grandpa Research Paper
As my grandfather looked out into the dread filled ocean, it was then that he realised there was no
going back. Once he stepped foot onto that aircraft carrier he felt worried and feared he would not
come back. This was the only thing that my grandpa ever told me about his past in the Korean War.
However, it also got me intrigued in the United States Armed Forces. As he passed away, I just wished
I would have asked him about the stories he must of had about the war and friends he met there. I was
scared he would agonize about the traumas he had. After his death, we went through photo books of
him and founds photos of him on the U.S.S Hancock. Seeing those pictures of him as a Gunner Mate
sparked an interest in the military and what it had to offer.
My grandpa, (J.W. Croney), was an excellent man and has given me much insight of what to become
in the future. He was the one who gave me goals, but also gave me rules. He always wanted for his
grandkids to do the best we could even if he could not express that. He is a prime example of someone

Harris Merger Paper
Brief overview Just like Harris Corporation, Exelis Inc. is mainly in business as a defense contractor
for U.S Government. It manufactures high tech weaponry such as integrated electronic warfare,
sensing and surveillance, air traffic management, information and cyber security, and networked
communications. Exelis also provides aerostructures, logistics, and technical services. Even though
U.S government is the main customer, Exelis also serves commercial clients, with international
customers comprising about 10% of sales. Reasons for acquisition: U.S defense budget had peaked in

Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax
Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of
taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most
revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its
citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens. One
crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax(LVT) which will have
compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved
value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the
land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen successful
modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S. state
Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT encourages
economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while combating
harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the
foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main
arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property
buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property
taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said
decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, Economists believe that LVT is
superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a property, while
the former might encourage them to make the highest and best use of their land (Hurley 2017). In
simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative effects to the owners of said
property. This will provide an increase in the development of properties and previously abandoned lots
wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of
a city because if more people decide to

Artemis In Greek Mythology
Mythology is an entertaining medium of entertainment, for both the ancient Greeks and Romans,
where there was no other form of entertainment, and the modern world, where the fantasies of old
continue to captivate the minds of the young. Every major Greek god has been represented many
times in modern media, but Artemis is one of the most dynamically presented characters in all of
mythology. This is due to the conflicting nature of the stories previously presented, which has been a
source of confusion for many. Nonetheless, people have continuously made stories out of the archer.
Artemis, while in the classic stories was very wise and fair yet stern, is considered younger and more

She had a temple dedicated to her at Ephesus, which was known as one of the Seven Wonders of the
World when it was created ( Temple of Artemis ). It was commissioned by Croesus circa 500 BC,
when he was king of Lydia ( Temple of Artemis ). It measured 350 by 150 feet, and was adorned by
art over the entire temple, even in areas as the top of the pillars that supported it ( Temple of Artemis ).
The temple was destroyed twice, once by fire from Herostratus in 356 BC, and once by destruction
from invading Goths in 262 BC, after which the temple was never rebuilt ( Temple of Artemis ).
Works of art were also dedicated to stories describing her, such as her encounter with Acteon in which
Acteon and his hunting dogs come across Artemis bathing in the woods; in spite, she turns Acteon into
a mute deer who is attacked by his dogs ( Artemis and Acteon ). This scene is described through an
ancient bell krater, a vase like object used to mix wine and water to dilute the heavy wine of ancient
times (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). The bell krater depicts the scene where Artemis shoots Acteon
and he is attacked by his dogs. The scene shows grace in Artemis s movements, with the feeble Acteon
helpless and on the ground, begging for mercy for his actions while receiving none. The art and
temples help a modern civilization to understand how the ancient world worshipped

Essay On Social Classes In The Roman Empire

Citizens in the Roman Empire separated from the wealth, house, and classes they are in. This kind of
social structure was continued in a Rome empire for a long time especially for the slavery. Roman
social structure affects the world today because there are still slaves and social classes. They are not

Advertising Appeals Aim For The Audience
Different strategies are used in all advertisements. Every aspect of the advertisement is strategically
planned to appeal to the audience. For example, an advertisement that does a great job of using sex
appeal to reach its audience is Carl s Jr all natural burger . This ad appeared during the super bowl
forty nine, and it was a big hit. The ad features ,22 year old model buxom, Charlotte McKinney.
Throughout the video it shows her walking through the town and appearing as if she is nude. She gets
all the attention from the guys in the town as she saunters past. in one scene there s a man reaching for
a tomato as she walks by, she turns around and gives him a flirty look and it emerges as if he is
grasping her gluteus. At the end she appears in a bikini nearly nude I love going all natural, she purrs,
opening wide to take a bite out of a big, juicy, all natural hamburger. Advertising appeals aim to
influence the way consumers view themselves and how buying certain products can prove to be
beneficial for them. The message conveyed through the advertising appeals influences the purchasing
decisions of consumers. In this case, the advertisement was aired by Carl s Jr fast food restaurant to
advertise their new all natural burger . It was aired during the Super bowl because majority of the
audience, men and woman, are watching the game. And it makes it easy for them to put their product

Effects Of Elder Abuse In Nursing Homes
The author made a compelling case for the meaning and significance of the study findings. The author
increased the knowledge regarding how the criminal justice system responds to the cases of elder
abuse in nursing homes and the failure to report abuse. However, the study results showed that the
implications include the need for broader penalties and the increase of training of human services
professionals.
The purpose of the fourth study was to explore the experiences of professionals working the frontlines
of elder abuse victims (Cairns Vreugdenhil, 2014). The research problem was that the increase of the
aging population leads to an increase of the challenging elder abuse cases and the impact of the work
is not well understood (Cairns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the research problem was that there has been little empirical research about elder neglect
and abuse in nursing homes using the National Ombudsman Reporting System (Bloemen et al., 2015).
The study is a descriptive research with a retrospective design (Bloemen et al., 2015). In addition, the
study sample was 11,749 abuse and neglect complaints from 2006 2013 (Bloemen et al., 2015).
Furthermore, the authors used the simple linear regression analysis to evaluate trends over time
(Bloemen et al., 2015). The operationalization of constructs was six types of complaints which
included physical, sexual, verbal abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, and resident to resident abuse
(Bloemen et al., 2015). The study findings showed majority of the abuse complaints were physical
abuse complaints made by a non resident (Bloemen et al., 2015). As a result, the physical abuse
complaints made by a non resident was 28% of the investigated complaints (Bloemen et al., 2015). In
addition, the study results showed a decrease in the amount of reports reported to the local long term
care ombudsmen from 7.5 to 5.6 reports per 1,000 beds (Bloemen et al., 2015). Therefore, the study
implications show that it is essential that the nursing home residents are aware of their rights and the
process for reporting

Twelfth Night Conventions
A people, without the knowledge of their past, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. Marcus
Garvey, and such is the case with Shakespearean English comedy in particular. A knowledge of
comedic subgenres and conventions assists and informs one s understanding of the stage drama,
Twelfth Night. A knowledge of genre and generic features helps to develop and broaden the meaning
of many a play, and in particular, Twelfth Night. The play Twelfth Night, written around 1600 BC, is
one of the great Romantic Comedies comedy focusing on love, marriage and courtship of William
Shakespeare and is still today regarded a literary classic. It is written in the pastoral tradition, ... Show

Every major character in Twelfth Night experiences some form of desire or love. Duke Orsino is in
love with Olivia. Viola falls in love with Orsino, while disguised as his pageboy, Cesario. Olivia falls
in love with Cesario, causing an interesting love triangle, which is only resolved when Olivia falls in
love with Viola s twin brother, Sebastian, and, at the last minute, Orsino decides that he actually loves
Viola. Twelfth Night derives much of its comic force by satirising these lovers. For example, Orsino s
flowery love poetry is made fun of, demonstrating that Orsino is more in love with the concept of
being in love than his supposed beloveds, as demonstrated in Act One If music be the food of love,
play on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, the appetite may sicken, and so die. Also, by showing
the particulars that govern how nobles engage in courtship, Shakespeare examines how characters
play the game of love. Characters that claim to be of deep passions are often revealed as self absorbed,
foolish, and misguided, as they fall victim to unfortunate love. Twelfth Night, considers the
relationship between erotic desire and gender and examines more overt same sex desire, even as it
steadily works its way towards the completion of the play, which ends with heterosexual couplings
and marriage in a way for

A Look at Microsoft Access
A Look at Microsoft Access
Introduction
Team A of DBM/405 has chosen to look at Microsoft Access. This paper will examine Microsoft
Access and its capabilities and benefits. It should show that Microsoft Access is one of the easiest user
friendly database and cost effective database applications today. This paper will also examine the use
of Access for a business called Parrothead Productions. It is a small one man operation, which is a
remote disc jockey business.
The Capabilities of Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access database gives you true command of your data, enabling you to retrieve it, sort it,
analyze it, summarize it, and report results in moments. It can combine data from various files, so that

You may be considering migrating (upsizing) your database to SQL Server because:
a) As the number of users increases, the file sharing mechanism of a Microsoft Access database may
result in a slower performance and increased network traffic. The client/server environment of
Microsoft SQL Server is designed for a large number of users and minimizing network traffic.
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 can support databases of up to 2 terabytes in size.
b) SQL Server 2000 is an XML enabled database server that allows you to access the server through a
URL, and to write and retrieve data as XML documents. Integration of Microsoft SQL Server s
security with the security of a Microsoft Windows NT® or Microsoft Windows® 2000 network allows
easier administration of complex network security settings.
c) SQL Server can be backed up and restored dynamically while the database is in use. Users do not
have to close the database while the daily backup is performed. In addition, the process of transaction
logging makes it possible to restore the database up to the point of failure.
The Benefits of Microsoft Access
Microsoft Access has a number of benefits that go beyond the basic capabilities of a database that are
worth discussing. Of course, the primary one that comes to mind is the fact that Access is a Microsoft

Hercules of the Skies Essay
There were many important people, aircraft, and developments, which greatly contributed to aviation
development, which ultimately impacted the World. Out of many aviation developments, I will write
about an aircraft I take pleasure in seeing and hearing, the C 130 Hercules. I consider this aircraft has
made a significant impact in the aviation industry, most in the dependability of the airframe and its
illustrious design. Today, this aircraft is used for many organizations such as Military Ops,
firefighting, and search and rescue. The military is the primary user of this aircraft, for it uses it for
many tactical operations. But what makes this aircraft so grand? The ability to land on short runways
and the ability to fly slow with load, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is modernized with computer systems instead of steam gauges. What I think makes the C 130 in
general momentous, is the number of international countries that are using this airframe. Over 60
countries are using this aircraft and it is no surprise since it has been in operation since the 50 s! ( Air
Force Technology (2011, May 5)). A big contribution to this outstanding airframe has to be given to
the developers, the company Lockheed or Lockheed Martin. An astonishing fact is that the same
company has made this aircraft for over 50 years; this just shows that Lockheed knows how to design
and manufacture lasting aircraft to persevere with modern technology. I would say that the years this
aircraft has been in service is enough in itself to say how it impacted the aviation industry, giving it
new means of how to create lasting aircraft for the high demand for its operations.
A few decades ago, the military needed an upgrade on its cargo and troop carrying capabilities. In the
1950 s, the less modern World War II cargo aircraft were the C 190, C 47, and C 46 s. These did not
meet the requirements for a continuously modernizing U.S. Military. (Simpson, M. (2011, October
19)). Therefore, in 1951, the U.S. Air Force put out a General Operating Requirement for a new
airframe that will meet specifications in the category s of how many passengers or paratroopers it will

A large percentage of women develop high blood pressure during their pregnancy. High blood
pressure may be caused by stress, but also the varying hormonal changes in the body during
pregnancy. Unfortunately, high blood pressure after the 20th week of pregnancy can become serious

cases, the condition results in a premature delivery of the baby.
Following a healthy diet and exercise plan can reduce your high blood pressure, but massage can also
help. The gentle therapy is capable of reducing stress and discomfort while also bringing down high
blood pressure levels. This will not only prevent preeclampsia during your pregnancy, but it can also
help reduce the risk of further complications after being diagnosed with the condition.

The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay
Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to determine it
has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not only why and how
it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the
company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the
more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers
is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50),
states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of
his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the
scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The
reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory
putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete
sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind
these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries
across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. One of
the main reasons I wanted to take a look at both

The Argonauts, Les Guerilleres, And Dictee
Power is a very particular thing and can be produced in a multitude of ways. The three texts The
Argonauts, Les Guerilleres, and Dictee show this in numerous ways. As a reader, you learn to
recognize the power in places you wouldn t necessarily expect. From being dismantled within a
dystopia to exploiting the way bodies serve the world, power has control over everything.
There is a sense of power within Les Guerilleres when the women take over and start a war. They are
developed within a group of empowerment and their only wish is to start anew, creating a world, or
dystopia, different than anything that has ever been seen, completing erasing all that is and was. They
believe that a fresh start is the only way that utter happiness can be found and they want the new
world to be a paradigm for all that is and can be good. They are controlled by the goddesses that lived
before them and by the empowerment that the vagina holds within. Exulting the beauty that they have
once they are united, they feel powerful enough to take control and to unify a front that can withstand
any battle. Once unified, they continue to grow stronger, and a shield begins to appear around the
women that can fight off any weapon that they come in contact with, thus creating an infrangible
bond. By exploiting themselves, they are using their power and unity to create a shield that is
impermeable. Their bodies are the sprout of their power, and because of this, they are perceived as the

The Ethics Of Managing Ethics
Managing Ethics
Ethics are a set of moral values about what is right or wrong. According to (managementhelp.org),
Philosophers have been discussing ethics for at least 2500 years, since the time of Socrates and
PlatoBeing a manager, one deals with countless ethical dilemmas which makes his or her job
challenging and complex (book). Managing ethics then refers to how a company ethically treats
employees, stakeholders, owners, and the public which greatly affects the organizational performance.
This paper aims at exploring the meaning of behaving ethically, how managers and organizations can

Each of these models has its own ways of determining if a decision or behavior is ethical.
Managers deal with decision making in every single day of their job. Therefore, they need to make
ethical decisions which would benefit their organization. An ethical decision is the one which a
reasonable or typical stakeholder would find acceptable because it aids stakeholders, the organization,
or society. An unethical decision is one where a manager would have to hide from others because he
rejects all ethics that apply in a certain situation in order for him or the organization to benefit at the
expense of society or other stakeholders. When manager are trying to determine whether their decision
is ethical or unethical, they should ask themselves a certain set of questions. First, a manager should
ask themselves if their decision falls in the accepted values or standards that typically apply. Second,
they should ask themselves if they are willing to share their decision with all the stakeholders affected
by that decision. Finally, managers need to ask themselves if the people with whom they have a strong
personal relationship would approve of their decision. (book).
If an organization is too large, its managers may need to develop an overall ethical code which every
employee should not break. Codes of ethics are formal standards and rules that managers can use to
help themselves make appropriate

Theodicies and Anti-theodicies in The Quarrel
If God could have made the world without evil and suffering, why is the world full of evil and
suffering? This is the question The Quarrel raises in terms of the Holocaust. According to Webster s
dictionary, quarrel implies a heated, verbal dispute typically between two friends. The two friends in
The Quarrel, Chaim, an agnostic writer, and Hersh, a rabbi, become caught up in a quarrel as to why
such a good God could allow such evil to be present in the world. This essay will discuss the
unexplainable evil that threatens our sense of meaning and purpose by exploring the major issues of
theodicies and anti theodicies in The Quarrel. Exploring these theodicies and anti theodicies is
important in understanding why evil exists rather than explaining the science behind what causes evil.
The first theodicy to be discussed is the theodicy of protest, which contradicts itself making it an anti
theodicy. This theodicy is one that allows atheism to appear considering there is no logical explanation
as to why an anomic event happens. One has a hard time believing God is good when He could have
and should have controlled many situations, such as the Holocaust. For example, Chaim doesn t
understand how God could let six million of His children die in the concentration camps. In the film
Chaim states, If I knew God, I would put him on trial, (Brandes 1991). This quote represents the
theodicy of protest by Chaim refusing to accept that God s job would include the murder of innocent

Narrative Complexity Of A Murder

Narrative Complexity of a Murder
Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the idea
of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics of
Contemporary Television Storytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows viewers to
participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also integrating
inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of narrative
complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form and serial form.
ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of a program that
implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to develop a complex
narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary TV viewing.
In his book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, Mittell argues that
different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of
television storytelling called narrative complexity . In order to explain the notion of operational
aesthetic, in class Professor Jackson explained that it is the way that media makers orchestrate the
plot, narrative and story of a television show in an unusual way. One way that the hit

Factors That Affect The Rate Of The Pregnancy
OT plays a major role in the initiation of labor particularly during the expulsive phase by stimulating
prostaglandin release in species, specifically in the uterine epithelium. Blanks and Thornton (2003)
study revealed that secretion of oxytocin is at its maximum level during fetal delivery of pups but the
amount of OT released during expulsion of the pups varies among species. According to them,
oxytocin is at its peak at the time of delivery of the first fetus in rabbit, and throughout labor with
greater pulses overlapping with pup s expulsion in rats. Variations in oxytocin level are also seen
during the pregnancy and labor in humans. According to Blanks and Thornton (2003) several
discrepancies are present when in OT is measured in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests that OT is critical for the ejection of milk but not parturition. Additionally, after
injecting OT on OT null mice and wild type mice, the start of premature labor within 24hrs was
observed at high concentrations of OT in both wild and null mice (Blanks Thornton, 2003). With that
in mind, abnormal modification of OT action does influence the start of labor. In conclusion, they put
forward the idea that OT receptor in mice is mostly invested in the timing for the initiation of labor.
Most importantly, the OT receptor is essential for normal labor because those receptors are found in
abundance in uterine epithelium during late pregnancy promoting contractile effects. Along with those
findings, female rats that are undergone a knockout of OT, showed a decreased in maternal care of
their pups but displayed a higher level of aggression (Bales Perkeybile, 2012).
Social rearing conditions plays a role in the binding of OT. Prairie voles, when differently handled by
experimenters a week after being born resulted in more OTR binding (Bales et al 2011). When
changing the animal s cages, experimenters carried the parent prairies vole by the scruff of the neck
and others were not touched. Those females that had careful attention and handling by the
experimenters displayed an increase in OTR binding. The same results were reported in males. They
concluded that the type of maintenance that pups received in early days after being born does affect

King Arthur Lee s Wake Analysis
Before Franklin is sent to France he went on another diplomatic mission. This one sadly was much
less successful. After America attempted to take over Canada due to a belief that the French were
explosively restive under the British yoke (Kennedy and Cohen 136) and failed when their assault on
Québec was beaten off on the last day of 1775 (Kennedy and Cohen 137), Ben Franklin, Samuel
Chase, and Charles Carroll were sent to Canada to persuade the Canadians to become the 14th colony
in rebellion against the British (Procknow). Because the rebels, under General Montgomery, lost at the
battle of Québec, Franklin and company arrived to an uninterested colony. Their worthless Continental
dollars held no value in Canada which led them to believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It officially ends the war and grants America large tracts of land on the continent. Now we get to see
Franklin as a diplomat for a final time. Still stationed in France, Franklin was appointed as minister
plenipotentiary of Sweden the year before this one, but starts relations between the two nations.
Sweden wanted to be remembered as the first power in Europe which had voluntarily and without
solicitation offered its friendship to the United States ( A Guide to Sweden ). Sweden was able to
accomplish their goal by signing the Treaty of Amity and Commerce on April 3, 1783.
1784 85
After these years, Franklin finally leaves France for Philadelphia and Jefferson is appointed minister
plenipotentiary in place of Franklin. The amount of respect and adoration for Franklin can be seen
with the most common question Jefferson received as minister: It is you, Sir, who replace Doctor
Franklin? His response was also just as indicative of Franklin s prestige: No one can replace him, Sir;
I am only his

Flight 562 Essay
Flight 562
On Saturdays, I would usually get up, eat breakfast, brush my teeth and get dressed to go out. But that
Saturday was different. That Saturday I had to go visit my uncle in New Zealand. I had purposely been
ignoring my uncle since the 4th grade when he bought me an ugly christmas sweater and forced me to
wear it. That whole day I got obnoxious laughs by everyone. But I was 18 and that was years ago.
I was staying in New Zealand for about 2 or 3 weeks. Me obviously being a girl, I brought 2 fully
packed luggages with extra things I might need. But I knew the flight would get boring and I would be
seated next to a loud little boy who doesn t stop crying. So I took my laptop filled with movies and my
phone filled with games, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was carrying a Canon, with those big professional lenses. I wonder if he actually liked taking
pictures or just wore it like a fashion statement.
I assumed he had some sort of walking problem since he was in a wheel chair, so a flight attendant
had to help him sit down. Sure enough he was sitting right next to me, seat 18B. He looked at me and
smiled. I m Andrew, but you can call me Andy. He said while gesturing his hand forward for a friendly
hand shake.
I m Elizabeth. I said while shaking his soft hands. After a few minutes of awkward silence he
suggested we play 20 questions to pass time. Since it as a 18 hour flight and I didn t know him well I
agreed to play.
I learned that he indeed does like photography and is not just a fashion statement, he also loves the
movie Superman, his favorite food is pizza funny thats mine too and his favorite color is green like the
military. Andy also loved to ready and his favorite book series was the extraordinary Harry Potter.
What s wrong with your legs? I asked and immediately felt guilty about it.
I have a rare leg cancer and its eating me away slowly but surely. He said with pain in his eyes.
Cant you get like chemotherapy done? i asked with a look filled with wonder and curiosity.
I could, but it was going to be really hard and excruciating pain. So I turned it down.
Why would you do that?! I exclaimed.

Bannerman Clause Pros And Cons
The Bannerman clause sets out to protect the auditors, intern one looks to see how this clause erodes
the professional image of the accounting profession, while limiting the audit report to addresses.
The Bannerman clause is a direct consequence of the court case between Royal Bank of Scotland
(RBS) and Bannerman Johnstone Maclay and Others (The Royal Bank of Scotland v Bannerman
Johnstone Maclay and Others, [2002]). The firm APC LTD employed Bannerman as an auditor;
Bannerman audited APC s financials and prepared an audit report for the directors of APC,
subsequently APC sent the audited financial statements to RBS. The financial reports and audit
statement were used to secure loans to APC. RBS argued that Bannerman owed a duty of care to RBS,
as third parties would rely on the audited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Institute of Charted Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) issued a technical bulletin Audit
01/03 recommending that audit reports now should have disclosure limiting liability (The Institute of
Chartered Accounants In England and Wales, 2003). On the opposite side of the argument the question
was raised as to whether the added disclaimers undermine the accounting profession and raise more
unanswered question than they leave answered. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
(ACCA) issued a technical factsheet regarding this disclosure stating the their incorporation as a
standard feature of the audit report could have the effect of devaluing that report (Technical Factsheet
84 The Use of Disclaimers in Audit Reports, 2004). Meanwhile, academic circles seemed to follow
the factsheet from ACCA, Dr Hooper agued that the disclaimers undermine the concept of public
interest and are more like a screen to legitimate the profession (Hooper Xu,

I am Dominica Ramsey, born January 2nd, 1997 to Clyde and Delores Ramsey. I have a younger sister
named Claudia Ramsey, who is a year and eight months younger than me. In relation to my character I
have always been the same kind, independent, responsible, respectful, loud and outgoing when
comfortable, and shy and reserved when not. I was raised in a Christian household my mom is a
minister and my dad is an elder, so my sister and I practically stayed in the church; my favorite books
were Ruth and Ester, however, my favorite story was of Samson and Delilah. In the church, is where I
met my childhood friends; we would pretend to be the Cheetah Girls, the Power Puff Girls, and
cheerleaders. Throughout elementary and intermediate school, I enjoyed

Solution For The Problem Solution
Problem Solution
The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the
toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine.
The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because
30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do!
Conclusion
Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to
the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental
floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there
was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly
removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from
going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we
could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some
possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be
extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the
floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having

Bachelor Vs Bachelorette
Although both The Bachelor and Bachelorette are entertaining, nearly all of the couples do not stay
together. Of the combined thirty three seasons only nine of the couples are still together to this day.
Specifically, of the twenty one seasons, including this season of The Bachelor, four couples are still
together, with the earliest season dating back to 2010. With only twelve seasons of The Bachelorette,
including the most recent 2016 season, five of the couples are still together, with the earliest season,
being the first season of 2003. (Wet Paint) Overall, I believe The Bachelor and Bachelorette is more
for becoming known as well as providing entertainment versus actually finding love, whether you
have the intent to or not. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all that goes on behind the scenes, it honestly, defeats the purpose of the show. While producers
have a say in certain things that happen, you compel to wonder if some of the contestants who made it
to the end honestly ended up there based off of what the bachelor or bachelorette wanted. Given that
roughly twenty seven percent of the couples last, this show is not the real deal. Drama is more
important than two humans falling in love. With that being said, yes, I will continue to watch this
show, for it is very entertaining, but I will not agree with what is happening, nor will change my
opinion on the reality of the

Electronic Cigarettes Vs. E Cigarettes
Electronic cigarettes (e cigarettes) are devices that deliver aerosolized nicotine to the user by heating a
liquid (typically propylene glycol) containing nicotine and flavoring agents. Most devices share a
common design a plastic tube containing a battery, an airflow sensor, a heating element and a cartridge
containing the liquid (Figure 1).
Figure 1. Components of the Electronic Cigarette.(1)
Theoretically,(2) frequently advertised,(3) and commonly assumed by users,(4 12) this process avoids
the harmful byproducts of combustible tobacco. Moreover, users cite considerable financial
savings(4,5) using e cigarettes over combustible cigarettes i.e. $846 per year compared to $2190.(13)
E cigarettes are often marketed as a way to beat public smoking restrictions,(3) and users frequently
claim this as one reason for consumption.(5,14)
E cigarette use is increasing,(2,4,5,7 9,12,14 21) with annual revenue surpassing $1 billion in 2013.
(22)
The e cigarette format, however, does not eliminate concerns regarding public and individual health
risks. The World Health Organization has called for e cigarette usage to be monitored in the same way
as more conventional tobacco products,(23) the US FDA is advocating for more research,(24) and
there has been a dramatic increase in analyses of the chemical, physiological, psychological and socio
cultural aspects of e cigarettes.(2 7,9 12,14 21,24 52)
Concerns
Concerns about e cigarette use include, the health effects of nicotine, the

Hockley In Titanic The Titanic Depth of the Heart of the Ocean Ahh, open your heart to me, Rose, pleads Caledon Hockley of the young Rose in James Cameron s film, Titanic, just after he gives her a most expensive diamond. The actor Billy Zane plays Hockley as a callous, jaded, been there done that sophisticate who seems to want her heart simply because he believes it is for sale and he has a right to it. His blindness to higher motives in love totally disqualifies him from being worthy of Rose DeWitt Bukater, played by Kate Winslet. But perhaps it is also the opaque nature of love itself that defeats him. This scene between Hockley and Rose is one of several ways in which Cameron develops the idea of the closed heart ... But then Rose hears a newscast about it, sees her picture on TV and calls the ship, asking, I was just wondering if you had found the heart of the ocean yet, Mr. Lovett? The literal gem, then, serves to drive the plot. People explore wrecks for the challenge and for scientific purposes, but Cameron has Brock Lovett, played by Bill Paxton, and his salvage crew searching for a diamond. This motivation works on two levels. It gives a reason for the dangerous and expensive dive that the people sitting in the dark theater can appreciate. Many people in this materialistic world can relate to and understand betting one s life and fortune on a diamond that rivals the Hope diamond in value. On an artistic level, though, the search for material wealth parallels the confidence that the Titanic s owners place in material goods and technology. And

Abstract A cyber spy network based mainly in China hacked into classified documents from government and private organizations. One of the biggest questions still remains unanswered. Should the U.S. Congress conduct an in depth assessment of Chinese cyber spying and consider imposing tougher penalties on companies that benefit from industrial espionage. However since the regulation has been in place it has failed to provide the security necessary to protect U.S. critical infrastructure from a cyber attack. Even Congress has been slow to act regarding almost all aspects of cyber policy (Wolf, J. 12 July, 2012). One of the problems facing a comprehensive cyber security bill is that computers have become so omnipresent in our daily lives that they cross every sector of the economy. It is not surprising that application of the laws of war to cyber attacks has recently been a popular topic in politics. Some have even analyzed whether a cyber attack can constitute an armed attack, it can but, whether a cyber attack with a specified effect constitutes a use of force. • 5. Examples Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury As technology continues to develop throughout time, humanity relies more and more on it. Technology surrounds everyone today from the cars people drive, and the phones people are constantly on. Technology is consuming our lives, and Ray Bradbury worries about our future. He portrays this message in his short story The Veldt. In this short story, Bradbury creates a family who live in a house with advanced technology. The purpose of the house is to make the families lives easier, but the parents soon realize the damage they have done by letting their kids rely on technology as another parent. Ray Bradbury uses personification and foreshadowing in The Veldt to show the separation of parents and children because of neglect occurring from the dependence on technology. Bradbury uses foreshadowing in the veldt to convey the growing separation of a family. He provides information in the veldt that foreshadows the children s plans for their parents. For example, the dad discovers his wallet in the nursery and Bradbury describe it as with drops of saliva on it, it had been chewed, and there was blood smears on both sides (Bradbury 8). As the reader, it is simple to infer that the parents are the ones getting devoured by the lions. This means that the children don t bother for their parents anymore, and only show affliction for the house. Another example is when the dad finds his wife s scarf covered in blood inside the nursery. As before, this foreshadows the split ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Good Ole American Way Essay Good Ole American Way Though many feel that the American education system is a model of success, compared to the educational system of Finland, the American system is in dire need of reform. The focus of these reforms should begin with mandatory recess, teacher salaries, and high stakes testing. Recess should be a necessary part of the student s day. Teachers, who are the key to student s learning, do not make they salary they deserve. Standardized testing is unfair because one test cannot determine a student s ability. Recess is as important as classroom time. It is critical in development and social interaction (Rochman). Students should be able to go blow off steam, run around for a half hour, let out some energy halfway through their day. Recess can also teach young kids responsibility. If he or she gets in trouble, the school can take it away from them. This teaches children that their actions have consequences. It helps children practice conflict and resolution. • 7. The Importance Of Sickle Cell Anemia An abundance of traits are attributed to genetics: whether or not your earlobes are attached, whether you are a left over right hand clasper or not, and the color of your irises are only a few. Whether or not you inherit the genes that cause sickle cell anemia also known as sickle cell disease and abbreviated SCD is of more importance than the color of your eyes. Sickle cell anemia is a disease that deals with hemoglobin, the protein that aids in oxygen transport from organ to organ, in red blood cells. Normally red blood cells have a biconcave shape that attributes to a maximum capacity of hemoglobin, but in cases of sickle cell anemia, red blood cells are structured, fragile, and crescent shaped, minimizing the capacity of hemoglobin, creating an obstacle for them not to rupture, and making it difficult for them to travel through some blood vessels. Because of the irregular shape of effected red blood cells, people with sickle cell anemia are more prone to form blood clots causing organ damage. Since the capacity of hemoglobin in a red blood cell is affected by sickle cell anemia, people with the disease experience oxygen deprivation to organs and tissues throughout the body, causing both immense pain and potentially death due to the ... Approaches to Administration and Total Quality Management Approaches to Administration Total Quality Management Approaches to Administration To some extent I have had experiences with each of these approaches to administration over the course of my working career; however I have had the greatest exposure to the classical and the human relations approaches. Of these the classical approach has been the most common. Many of the organizations I have been associated with were organized around a formal organizational structure with specific rules and expectations concerning procedures and processes. The organizational hierarchy was well defined. According to Willis W. Harman (2001) people who lack self motivation fit compliantly into this type of organizational management structure. However, a growing fraction of the population, displaying self actualization tendencies are bothered by the oppressiveness of hierarchical management and are insistent on a more participatory role. Human relation approaches require decisions to be made with the maximum feasible involvement of those whose lives are affected by the outcome. This form of organizational management calls for the enhancement of humanistic values such as trust, honesty, cooperation, caring and personal responsibility to develop personal relationships. • 11. Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as recommended by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning convergence issues and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of dispute, the companies and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms which are faster, less expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation. Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor and management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p. 202) proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors independence and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements. Controversy threatens the success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency cost hence minimizing the expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving the interest of the shareholders. Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims, fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted accounting practices. How The Conflict Arises: In these cases, auditor s must inform their clients about their roles and the responsibility of the companies accounting function against those of the external auditors. • 16. Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens. One crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax(LVT) which will have compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen successful modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S. state Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT encourages economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while combating harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, Economists believe that LVT is superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a property, while the former might encourage them to make the highest and best use of their land (Hurley 2017). In simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative effects to the owners of said property. This will provide an increase in the development of properties and previously abandoned lots wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of a city because if more people decide to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Artemis In Greek Mythology Mythology is an entertaining medium of entertainment, for both the ancient Greeks and Romans, where there was no other form of entertainment, and the modern world, where the fantasies of old continue to captivate the minds of the young. Every major Greek god has been represented many times in modern media, but Artemis is one of the most dynamically presented characters in all of mythology. This is due to the conflicting nature of the stories previously presented, which has been a source of confusion for many. Nonetheless, people have continuously made stories out of the archer. The temple was destroyed twice, once by fire from Herostratus in 356 BC, and once by destruction from invading Goths in 262 BC, after which the temple was never rebuilt ( Temple of Artemis ). Works of art were also dedicated to stories describing her, such as her encounter with Acteon in which Acteon and his hunting dogs come across Artemis bathing in the woods; in spite, she turns Acteon into a mute deer who is attacked by his dogs ( Artemis and Acteon ). This scene is described through an ancient bell krater, a vase like object used to mix wine and water to dilute the heavy wine of ancient times (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). The bell krater depicts the scene where Artemis shoots Acteon and he is attacked by his dogs. The author increased the knowledge regarding how the criminal justice system responds to the cases of elder abuse in nursing homes and the failure to report abuse. However, the study results showed that the implications include the need for broader penalties and the increase of training of human services professionals. The purpose of the fourth study was to explore the experiences of professionals working the frontlines of elder abuse victims (Cairns Vreugdenhil, 2014). Therefore, the research problem was that there has been little empirical research about elder neglect and abuse in nursing homes using the National Ombudsman Reporting System (Bloemen et al., 2015). The study is a descriptive research with a retrospective design (Bloemen et al., 2015). In addition, the study sample was 11,749 abuse and neglect complaints from 2006 2013 (Bloemen et al., 2015). Furthermore, the authors used the simple linear regression analysis to evaluate trends over time (Bloemen et al., 2015). The operationalization of constructs was six types of complaints which included physical, sexual, verbal abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, and resident to resident abuse (Bloemen et al., 2015). The study findings showed majority of the abuse complaints were physical abuse complaints made by a non resident (Bloemen et al., 2015). As a result, the physical abuse complaints made by a non resident was 28% of the investigated complaints (Bloemen et al., 2015). In addition, the study results showed a decrease in the amount of reports reported to the local long term care ombudsmen from 7.5 to 5.6 reports per 1,000 beds (Bloemen et al., 2015). Olivia falls in love with Cesario, causing an interesting love triangle, which is only resolved when Olivia falls in love with Viola s twin brother, Sebastian, and, at the last minute, Orsino decides that he actually loves Viola. Twelfth Night derives much of its comic force by satirising these lovers. For example, Orsino s flowery love poetry is made fun of, demonstrating that Orsino is more in love with the concept of being in love than his supposed beloveds, as demonstrated in Act One If music be the food of love, play on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, the appetite may sicken, and so die. Also, by showing the particulars that govern how nobles engage in courtship, Shakespeare examines how characters play the game of love. Characters that claim to be of deep passions are often revealed as self absorbed, foolish, and misguided, as they fall victim to unfortunate love. Twelfth Night, considers the relationship between erotic desire and gender and examines more overt same sex desire, even as it steadily works its way towards the completion of the play, which ends with heterosexual couplings and marriage in a way for ... Out of many aviation developments, I will write about an aircraft I take pleasure in seeing and hearing, the C 130 Hercules. Today, this aircraft is used for many organizations such as Military Ops, firefighting, and search and rescue. A big contribution to this outstanding airframe has to be given to the developers, the company Lockheed or Lockheed Martin. An astonishing fact is that the same company has made this aircraft for over 50 years; this just shows that Lockheed knows how to design and manufacture lasting aircraft to persevere with modern technology. I would say that the years this aircraft has been in service is enough in itself to say how it impacted the aviation industry, giving it new means of how to create lasting aircraft for the high demand for its operations. A few decades ago, the military needed an upgrade on its cargo and troop carrying capabilities. In the 1950 s, the less modern World War II cargo aircraft were the C 190, C 47, and C 46 s. These did not meet the requirements for a continuously modernizing U.S. Military. (Simpson, M. (2011, October 19)). Many people wonder not only why and how it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50), states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. This is the question The Quarrel raises in terms of the Holocaust. According to Webster s dictionary, quarrel implies a heated, verbal dispute typically between two friends. The two friends in The Quarrel, Chaim, an agnostic writer, and Hersh, a rabbi, become caught up in a quarrel as to why such a good God could allow such evil to be present in the world. This essay will discuss the unexplainable evil that threatens our sense of meaning and purpose by exploring the major issues of theodicies and anti theodicies in The Quarrel. Exploring these theodicies and anti theodicies is important in understanding why evil exists rather than explaining the science behind what causes evil. The first theodicy to be discussed is the theodicy of protest, which contradicts itself making it an anti theodicy. This theodicy is one that allows atheism to appear considering there is no logical explanation as to why an anomic event happens. One has a hard time believing God is good when He could have and should have controlled many situations, such as the Holocaust. For example, Chaim doesn t understand how God could let six million of His children die in the concentration camps. In the film Chaim states, If I knew God, I would put him on trial, (Brandes 1991). Narrative Complexity Of A Murder Victoria Alvarez Josh Jackson/Ganesh Media Studies 10 Section 104 27 September 2016 Narrative Complexity of a Murder Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the idea of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows viewers to participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also integrating inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of narrative complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form and serial form. ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of a program that implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to develop a complex narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary TV viewing. In his book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, Mittell argues that different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of television storytelling called narrative complexity . Factors That Affect The Rate Of The Pregnancy OT plays a major role in the initiation of labor particularly during the expulsive phase by stimulating prostaglandin release in species, specifically in the uterine epithelium. Blanks and Thornton (2003) study revealed that secretion of oxytocin is at its maximum level during fetal delivery of pups but the amount of OT released during expulsion of the pups varies among species. According to them, oxytocin is at its peak at the time of delivery of the first fetus in rabbit, and throughout labor with greater pulses overlapping with pup s expulsion in rats. Additionally, after injecting OT on OT null mice and wild type mice, the start of premature labor within 24hrs was observed at high concentrations of OT in both wild and null mice (Blanks Thornton, 2003). With that in mind, abnormal modification of OT action does influence the start of labor. In conclusion, they put forward the idea that OT receptor in mice is mostly invested in the timing for the initiation of labor. Most importantly, the OT receptor is essential for normal labor because those receptors are found in abundance in uterine epithelium during late pregnancy promoting contractile effects. Along with those findings, female rats that are undergone a knockout of OT, showed a decreased in maternal care of their pups but displayed a higher level of aggression (Bales Perkeybile, 2012). Social rearing conditions plays a role in the binding of OT. Prairie voles, when differently handled by experimenters a week after being born resulted in more OTR binding (Bales et al 2011). Sweden wanted to be remembered as the first power in Europe which had voluntarily and without solicitation offered its friendship to the United States ( A Guide to Sweden ). Sweden was able to accomplish their goal by signing the Treaty of Amity and Commerce on April 3, 1783. 1784 85 After these years, Franklin finally leaves France for Philadelphia and Jefferson is appointed minister plenipotentiary in place of Franklin. The amount of respect and adoration for Franklin can be seen with the most common question Jefferson received as minister: It is you, Sir, who replace Doctor Franklin? His response was also just as indicative of Franklin s prestige: No one can replace him, Sir; I am only his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Flight 562 Essay Flight 562 On Saturdays, I would usually get up, eat breakfast, brush my teeth and get dressed to go out. But that Saturday was different. That Saturday I had to go visit my uncle in New Zealand. I had purposely been ignoring my uncle since the 4th grade when he bought me an ugly christmas sweater and forced me to wear it. That whole day I got obnoxious laughs by everyone. But I was 18 and that was years ago. I was staying in New Zealand for about 2 or 3 weeks. Me obviously being a girl, I brought 2 fully packed luggages with extra things I might need. But I knew the flight would get boring and I would be seated next to a loud little boy who doesn t stop crying. So I took my laptop filled with movies and my phone filled with games, ... I assumed he had some sort of walking problem since he was in a wheel chair, so a flight attendant had to help him sit down. Sure enough he was sitting right next to me, seat 18B. He looked at me and smiled. I m Andrew, but you can call me Andy. He said while gesturing his hand forward for a friendly hand shake. I m Elizabeth. I said while shaking his soft hands. After a few minutes of awkward silence he suggested we play 20 questions to pass time. Since it as a 18 hour flight and I didn t know him well I agreed to play. I learned that he indeed does like photography and is not just a fashion statement, he also loves the movie Superman, his favorite food is pizza funny thats mine too and his favorite color is green like the military. I exclaimed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Bannerman Clause Pros And Cons The Bannerman clause sets out to protect the auditors, intern one looks to see how this clause erodes the professional image of the accounting profession, while limiting the audit report to addresses. The Bannerman clause is a direct consequence of the court case between Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Bannerman Johnstone Maclay and Others (The Royal Bank of Scotland v Bannerman Johnstone Maclay and Others, [2002]). The firm APC LTD employed Bannerman as an auditor; Bannerman audited APC s financials and prepared an audit report for the directors of APC, subsequently APC sent the audited financial statements to RBS. The financial reports and audit statement were used to secure loans to APC. RBS argued that Bannerman owed a duty of care to RBS, as third parties would rely on the audited ... The Institute of Charted Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) issued a technical bulletin Audit 01/03 recommending that audit reports now should have disclosure limiting liability (The Institute of Chartered Accounants In England and Wales, 2003). On the opposite side of the argument the question was raised as to whether the added disclaimers undermine the accounting profession and raise more unanswered question than they leave answered. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) issued a technical factsheet regarding this disclosure stating the their incorporation as a standard feature of the audit report could have the effect of devaluing that report (Technical Factsheet 84 The Use of Disclaimers in Audit Reports, 2004). Meanwhile, academic circles seemed to follow the factsheet from ACCA, Dr Hooper agued that the disclaimers undermine the concept of public interest and are more like a screen to legitimate the profession (Hooper Xu, ... I was raised in a Christian household my mom is a minister and my dad is an elder, so my sister and I practically stayed in the church; my favorite books were Ruth and Ester, however, my favorite story was of Samson and Delilah. • 47. Solution For The Problem Solution Problem Solution The solution for the problem we observe is to design a product that has floss connecting to the toothbrush. That way, people who forget will be reminded to include this in their everyday routine. The consumers would be able to take the floss out. We think this is going to be the outcome because 30% of adults say they do not have it in handy, now they do! Conclusion Our solution was successful, but there was some things that could be fixed. Our suggested solution to the problem was successful because we were able to remove the floss successfully, keep the dental floss cutter in place, and we were able to remind the user to floss. When we tested this product, there was some things that could have been improved. When in use, water got to the bottom, and slightly removed the glue. To fix this, we could put a cover at the end, so it would prevent the water from going in. It was also difficult to take the floss out of the product, but it was possible. Next time, we could make an opening big enough so users do not have a problem with taking the floss out. Some possible problems noticed in the test is that the floss could slip to the very bottom, and it would be extremely difficult to get out. To fix this, we could put a slit near the dental floss cutter to prevent the floss from accidentally going to the bottom. Another difficulty that is most likely to come off is having to ... Of the combined thirty three seasons only nine of the couples are still together to this day. Specifically, of the twenty one seasons, including this season of The Bachelor, four couples are still together, with the earliest season dating back to 2010. With only twelve seasons of The Bachelorette, including the most recent 2016 season, five of the couples are still together, with the earliest season, being the first season of 2003. While producers have a say in certain things that happen, you compel to wonder if some of the contestants who made it to the end honestly ended up there based off of what the bachelor or bachelorette wanted. Given that roughly twenty seven percent of the couples last, this show is not the real deal. Drama is more important than two humans falling in love. With that being said, yes, I will continue to watch this show, for it is very entertaining, but I will not agree with what is happening, nor will change my opinion on the reality of the ... • 50. Electronic Cigarettes Vs. E Cigarettes Electronic cigarettes (e cigarettes) are devices that deliver aerosolized nicotine to the user by heating a liquid (typically propylene glycol) containing nicotine and flavoring agents. Most devices share a common design a plastic tube containing a battery, an airflow sensor, a heating element and a cartridge containing the liquid (Figure 1). Figure 1. Components of the Electronic Cigarette.(1) Theoretically,(2) frequently advertised,(3) and commonly assumed by users,(4 12) this process avoids the harmful byproducts of combustible tobacco. Moreover, users cite considerable financial savings(4,5) using e cigarettes over combustible cigarettes i.e. $846 per year compared to $2190.(13) E cigarettes are often marketed as a way to beat public smoking restrictions,(3) and users frequently claim this as one reason for consumption.(5,14) E cigarette use is increasing,(2,4,5,7 9,12,14 21) with annual revenue surpassing $1 billion in 2013. (22) The e cigarette format, however, does not eliminate concerns regarding public and individual health risks. The World Health Organization has called for e cigarette usage to be monitored in the same way as more conventional tobacco products,(23) the US FDA is advocating for more research,(24) and there has been a dramatic increase in analyses of the chemical, physiological, psychological and socio cultural aspects of e cigarettes.(2 7,9 12,14 21,24 52) Concerns Concerns about e cigarette use include, the health effects of nicotine, the ...
