An Inspector Calls Eva Smith Character Analysis
Apart from Mrs. Birling, Priestley in his play An Inspector Calls, conveys women as very weak and
inferior characters; as the play was set in 1912, we can see how women were stereotypically made to
be obedient and loyal to their husbands. Through the character of Eva Smith the theme of vulnerability
is portrayed, and through the character of Sheila we can see how women are shown as materialistic
and incompetent.
Throughout the play Priestley exhibits the character of Eva Smith as an impuissant character; she is
mentioned very frequently as she highlights the faults of society in 1912 due to the ill excused way
she was treated, being inferior to males of her own class as well as those much wealthier than her. Yet
she never makes an appearance in the play. When she is first mentioned she is portrayed as weak when

From this we can infer that Priestley is portraying women as weak, as if they can not speak their own
mind, therefore Gerald had to talk for her since she could not do it herself. He goes to open the door
while Sheila takes her mother out. Then he closes it and comes back in, from these stage directions we
can see how Priestlety conveys how the women are too fragile to be involved in important
conversations. The fact that Sheila takes her mother out , as the men stay inside and continue to
discuss, portrays that the women are not only too weak to handle the conversation but also that they
are unimportant in the matter, as they did not need to stay. This concludes the fact that women are
exhibited as insignificant and weak through Sheila s unimportance and delicate

Detroit Red Wings Case Study
In Hockey Town, there s only one team to root for the Detroit Red Wings. The team currently resides
just a luxury sedan or limo ride away at Joe Louis Arena, located in downtown Detroit. Here are some
team historical highlights:
1920s The Red Wings go all the way back to the old Western Hockey League, when the Victoria

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Multiplier
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Multipliers play a key role in many high performance systems. As the technology advances, the
demand of high speed digital systems increases or we can say the demand of high speed multiplier
increases because the multiplier is a main component in every digital system. Multipliers are used as
small blocks in large digital systems like FIR filters, microprocessors, digital signal processors,
communication systems etc. So to find performance of a large digital system is measured by the
performance of the multiplier because the multiplier is mainly the slowest element in the large
systems; consequently multiplication dominates the execution time of most DSP algorithms, so a high
speed multiplier is always required. As compared to other operations in an ALU, the multiplier also
uses more power. Thus scientists have always been trying to design a multiplier which utilizes less
power, time and area and increases speed. Multiplication is such a mathematical operation in which a
number i.e. multiplicand is added to itself a given number of times as indicated by another number i.e.
multiplier to form a result.
A digital circuit used to multiply two numbers is called a multiplier. Multiplication, as in mathematics,
consists of shifting and adding the partial products. The same concept is used here in digital
multipliers. For unsigned number multiplication, AND gates are utilized for ... Show more content on

The representation in which digits after and before the decimal is fixed is called fixed point number

floating point. To represent extremely large and small values like distance between sun and earth or

point representation is used although it is slower than fixed point

The Strengths Of Sita In Ramayana
Traditionally, a woman has been called abala . In Sanskrit and many other Indian languages bala
means strength and abala means one without strength. If by strength we do not mean brutish strength,
but strength of character, steadfastness, endurance, she should be called sabala , strong. When a
woman, whom we call abala , becomes sabala , all those who are helpless will become powerful. Such
empowering may not be bestowed upon them by legislation or assistance only offered by men. The
women who think of themselves as weak must gather strength to survive with self esteem. In all
branches of folk literature and Bengali literature, we see that the Bengali women are abala , helpless,
deprived of their basic rights and tortured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nazrul expected that women would break up their veils and chains into pieces and come out raising
the voice against all forms of discriminatory issues regarding men and women. It may be stated here
that though Rokeya s dream is unflinching and time winning, many instances in South
Asia especially in Bangladesh augment depression. We may refer to the harrowing story of Arzina
who became the victim of the claws of her husband. The story was published in The Daily Star on 6
August 2008:
Her husband, Kamruzzaman Kamu, who teaches at a college, set fire to Arzina chasing in the kitchen
and locked the room to ensure death. Before being freed with the help of neighbors, she had already
57% burns of her body. Suffering serious burns in her face, breast, abdomen, both arms, back and part
of thighs and struggling for life at DMCH, Arzina, a master in Geography from Rajshahi College who
passed the 27 th BCS exams in 2007, turned a victim of a beast incarnate. (Ashraf and Mollah 16)
As Arzina raised her voice against her husband s adultery, she had to face a holocaust like this. Arzina
is fit educationally and free economically; she has educated herself in higher institution. Yet she can

The Pros And Cons Of High School Athletes
Athletes Yes or No There has been many occasions where high school teachers have to make a hard
decision when an athlete is failing, what should they do. I believe that no high school athlete deserves
any help from their teachers in order to play. They should be able to complete the circumstances
needed in school if they truly wanted to play the sport these athletes are in. If this idea was allowed in
high school what will happen to these kids later on in life like in college, will they be able to
accomplish the goals at that point when it matters most? Many high schools and teachers don t realize
the damage they can do to these athletes if they do give them those couple extra points to play.
According to a website, Any student should have good grades to play sports. Even if you are a great
athlete, you will probably not get a full athletic scholarship. Having good grades can lessen your stress
about affording college ( psychologytoday.com ). In this case, what teachers don t know is not only are
they making that athlete happy to play, but at the same time you are hurting that person for future
references, when later in their future college sees the kind of grades that athlete is getting he may not
be the kind of fit for whichever school that may be. Overall any student that has failed a class and is
not able to play that athlete shouldn t be able to play at all. If an athlete is not able to be responsible to
keep his grades up what makes a coach think that he can be

Carina Alternate Ending
Carina, wobbling as she sat, obviously intoxicated, glanced around at her friends with bleary eyes. I
have a secret about Ulrich, too, she said, while waving her finger in the air vaguely. I taught him how
to use his tongue on a woman and he is excellent at it! The room fell dead quiet for a moment, until
finally, Gawain pitched over onto his back and cackled with hysterics. That s great! said the drunk
knight from his supine position on the floor. Can you teach me? That would be quite the lesson. He
and Carina both roared with laughter until she said, Word has it the great Sir Gawain needs no help in
that area. Your prowess is almost legendary. Perceval and Joan joined in then collapsed in laughter,
too. Until carina began to cry. Joan drew Carina into a close hug, and ... Show more content on

might hurt her. Yet as he felt her orgasm grip him and Joan screamed out his name as she d never done
before, he figured it couldn t be so bad. With a few more deep thrusts, he found his own release. Joan
pulled away and flopped down onto her back. Perceval glanced down and noticed bruises darkening
her hips and shoulder, bruises shaped like his fingers. He ran touched the marks and shame welled up
within him. I ve hurt you, he said with concern. He d often worried about this because he was so much

The Pros And Cons Of The Nineteenth Amendment
Not everyone in the United States agreed with the Nineteenth Amendment being passed. Two months
after the Federal Government declared that the Amendment had been incorporated to the Constitution
in August of 1920, Oscar Lesser sued to stop two women [Cecilia Street Waters and Mary D.
Randolph] to vote in Baltimore, Maryland. Lesser believed the Maryland Constitution limited the
suffrage to men . He said that Maryland had refused to vote regarding the ratification of the
Nineteenth Amendment, and should not be subject to its application.. In 1922, Leser v. Garnett, was
argued before the United States Supreme Court. The plaintiffs of the case argued that the Nineteenth
Amendment was not passed constitutionally. They claimed there were three principal grounds to their
argument, which were: that the power to amend the Constitution did not cover this amendment
because of its character ; that several states that had ratified the amendment despite the fact that their
state constitutions prohibited women from voting; and that, in particular, the ratifications of the states
of Tennessee and West Virginia were were invalid because they were adopted without following the
rules of legislative procedure in place in those states . In a unanimous decision, the court ruled that the
amendment was passed constitutionally. In their decision, the court responded to each of the three
arguments. Lesser s first argument claimed that if Amendment s are added without the State s consent,

Effects Of Socioeconomic Status On Middle Childhood Essay
The Effects of Socioeconomic Status from Birth to Middle Childhood Socioeconomic status is the
driving force behind many aspects of life. In this essay I will touch on several ways in which it can
impact areas of development both in the United States and other places around the world. The first
area I would like to look at is Behavior. In the textbook chapter 2 discusses behavior genetics and
heritability. It discusses the relationship between the genetic and the environmental influences using
SES as an example on environment as it relates to intelligence. The book states that some studies find
middle class families to have higher heritability of intelligence not due to different genes than those in
a lower SES but because they have access to greater resources. (Arnett, 2016) Another study used a
Family based training program in lower SES preschoolers. Children from different socioeconomic
status (SES) backgrounds display profound disparities in cognitive skills, brain structure and function,
and academic outcomes (e.g., refs. 1⇓⇓ 4). Because academic disparities associated with SES are
increasing in many societies (5), there is strong motivation to develop and implement training
programs that can narrow these achievement gaps. (Neville, et al., 2013) This study did find that the
children in the Family based program showed significant changes in the reduction of problem
behavior and improvement in their social skills. The implementation of parent or caregiver

Hunting Vs Hunting Essay
Misconceptions Vs. Reality of Hunting
Many people have misconstrued ideas about what it means to be a hunter. Some have this idea in their
heads that hunters are just out to kill and have no respect for the environment the animals live in or the
animals themselves. When in reality hunters care more about the environment than most people
because of the very fact that they care about the animals they hunt. Hunting is one of the best way to
bring a family together like no other activity. The misconception that hunting is a just an
individualized activity couldn t be more wrong. When hunting with your family, you experience an
adventure with your loved ones that brings you all closer together like no other way. The truths of
what it means to be a hunter are hunters care about the animals they hunt and the environment they
hunt in more than the average person. Hunting is a great way to bring the family together unlike any
other activity. Also, hunting brings people closer to nature in way unlike any other. And it s this
connection with nature that keeps hunters humbled by the environment they are in and the animals
that live in it.
Hunters know more about the animals they hunt and the environment they live in better than anyone
else. Before a hunter ventures off to pursue the animal they are hunting, weeks of pre season scouting
are required in order to pattern the animal to get in close enough to make a kill. The misconception
that hunters have to just drive around and watch for an animal then go kill it is completely absurd.
Hunters spending days even weeks looking for and observing the animals they are attempting to
harvest, and coming up with a game plan on how they are going to harvest them. Biologists, the Game
and Fish Departments, and many other wildlife agency s depend on hunters reports for accurate data in
measuring the health of big game herds. When a hunter receives their tag in the mail, it usually will
come with a blood testing kit. The Game and Fish started issuing these kits a few years ago in an
attempt to track where the brucellosis disease was spreading to. Now, the Game and Fish could have
just tranquilized a few hundred elk from each area surrounding the state of Wyoming over the years.

Comparison Of Malkovich s Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck has been adapted to various films and plays, most notably
Malkovich s Hollywood movie adaptation in 1992 and Robert Blake s television parody in 1981.
Malkovich s makes a good choice for the music at the start and is also effective at conveying the law
at the time, but it s lacking due to its depiction of the American environment during the depression.
Blake s adaptation successfully conveys personalities of the characters and also show a relevant
atmosphere; however, the start of his movie is unclear and unbelievable.
Malkovich s movie uses relevant music and shows how the law worked in 1937. During the start of
the movie, the music starts off with just one part, but eventually grows, both in the number of parts
and volume, this helps convey the suspense at the start of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lennie was dehumanized by John Steinbeck. When Steinbeck said that Lennie; drank with long gulps,
snorting into the water like a horse. He compared Lennie drinking the water as if he was a horse,
Blake was also able to dehumanize the characters, when George and Lennie crawled through the
wheat fields, they were dehumanized, as the trait of crawling is often attributed to less sophisticated
animals. Blake was also able to show an atmosphere which was similar to the one of the Great
Depression. When George and Lennie got to Aunt Clara s house a close up shot of the solitary house,
surrounded by nothing but fencing was shown. This could be symbolic of how most people were
isolated during the Great Depression and were unwilling to help people in desperate times. Blake was
also able to stereotype America with a cliché; as American as apple pie. Which was helpful in
providing the background of the setting in Of Mice and Men. Consequently, Blake s adaption was able
to successfully convey the personalities of the characters as well as the setting in Of Mice and

Golfers
Executive Summary
GolfLogix was founded in May of 1999 by Todd Kuta and Scott Lambrecht. The GolfLogix system
used Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and came equipped with a handheld receiver called
the xCaddie. The xCaddie made it easier for golfers to measure the distance between their current
position and the green. This concept helped diffuse the frustrations of the golfers themselves and of
the other golfers who were waiting on the course. In 2002, GolfLogix was faced with the decision of
whether or not to keep focusing their target market on the individual golf courses or to start marketing
directly to consumers. After researching the company, its competitors, and the industry, we were able
to consider both options and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The xCaddie was easy for the golfers to read and it enabled the golfers to view their distances in both
yards and meters. The product also included custom features that would tailor to the different needs of
the different golfers (Gourville 1).
After deciding they wanted to carry out the idea, the two men first had to find out if such a device
would be legal in the United State Golf Association (USGA). They found that the standard rule for
using a GPS was that it could be used for recreational golf but could not be used during tournament
play (Gourville 3). By May 2002, GolfLogix consisted of six full time employees and had managed to
raise $12 million. Although the company seemed to have a great start in the industry, there were many
measurement systems that were currently being used by golf courses all around the world, including
the yardage markers, sprinkler heads, yardage booklets, and rangefinders (Gourville 4). The yardage
markers are considered the most widely used tool for golfers to measure the distance between the
green and their current position. The yardage markers are typically colored plastic or concrete plates
that are embedded in the center of the fairway. The sprinkler head system involves marking the
distances on the sprinkler heads. There are typically ten to twelve sprinklers

Should Kids Get A Trophy Essay
Should all kids get a trophy even if they don t win anything? This is the question I will be answering
today giving both sides. The first thing I have to say is that it just costs too much money to give
everyone a trophy. Second kids want to earn trophies not give them handed to them is just makes them
mean less to other people. Third I think the people need some let down in their life so they can
improve themselves instead of just moving along. So really do kids need to get trophies after
everything they do? First the cost I can t stress enough how much of a waste of money it is to give
away participation trophies. The kid will get it and in about 2 years it will be in the garbage because it
has no value to them. When say if they got a 1st ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Little kids are the only kind of people who would want a trophy even if they lose so for kids it would
be okay. But for older kids it s just going to be a letdown more than it is going to be a reminder of how
good he/she did. Kids want achievements and if they don t get that then they will always become soft
and think everything is given to them. Lastly people need to improve themselves not just think it s all
they can do they need to keep trying to achieve the trophy they want. Kids need to realize what they
can do so they need to actually try if we just give them things they won t learn. If you did really bad
and you felt bad would you want a participation trophy so you could remember that day you didn t do
well. So there are always two sides of the story so I m going to show you the other side. Why all kids
should get a trophy for participating. First it could make the kid confidant make himher think that
achieved something and at a little age that makes sense. Second kids might want something to show
what they did or just want a trophy. But I don t agree kids don t need a participation trophy for just
showing up that s not how life works. There just going to grow up and throw it away so it s a waste of

Cane Toads And Its Effects On America
Known in the scientific community as Bufo marinus, cane toads were introduced to Australia in the
mid 1900 s t rate from their native home of South America. Sugarcane crops were at risk of
destruction from the infestation of beetles, and these species were brought in to help counter the
negative effect that the beetles were having on farms. These amphibians have the ability to grow up to
4.4 pounds, and were soon doing more harm than good. Not only were the cane toads eating the
beetles that they were meant to, but they also started including native insect eaters in their diets
(Roach). This new addition to their food source helped the toads to thrive and expand their habitat
region. Cane toads are known for their venomous features and are infamous for their inability to
control the cane toads. Rather than halting the spread of the cane beetles, these organisms themselves
spread at an unbelievably fast rate. Only three thousand cane toads were released into the plantations
that were infested in Australia, but presently, millions are inhabitants of this continent. They were
originally only located in north Queensland but have somehow spread thousands of square miles into
northeast Australia. Now recognized as a pest, the Australian government is informing civilians on
how to properly collect them and is teaching them appropriate disposal methods. There are little to no
natural predators that would normally control the population size of the cane toads, so their population

The Theory Of Corporate Social Responsibility
Historical background of the development of CSR is almost as important as the ongoing discussion on
what CSR is and how and where it should operate. Many scholars argue that these are not
interchangeable and need to be assessed in conjunction with each other. For purposes of this paper it is
pivotal to look into the past to see what stood behind the broadening of companies accountability
beyond the standard agency theory (limited liability of shareholders for the company s violations or
breach and the company s main accountability being towards its shareholders and investors only) to
the stakeholder theory (company s accountability towards a broad range of stakeholders, including
employees, environment and local communities). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This at the time was widely opposed by proponents of corporate isolation as a highly irrelevant
research topic that went in no parallel or connection with the idea of a corporate veil, charter
accountability and the sole purpose of any company to bring profits to its shareholders. This reverts us
back to the development of a stakeholder theory that gradually gained its speed in the 1970s . It soon
found its implementation in Freeman s management discipline , who promoted the expansion of firms
accountability towards a broader range of stakeholders. One of the examples of how attitude towards
CSR by multinational corporations has changed was raised by Lee, when he reviewed corporate
governance codes and practices of Ford . He used two instances in the history of corporate actions of
Ford with an interval of 80 years in between them. Keeping in mind the abovementioned Clark s
remarks on corporate accountability back in 1916, this becomes even more educational, as it shows a
dramatic change in shareholders perception of their business as a service to the broader society. There,
in 1919 Ford was faced with a lawsuit, as a result of which it agreed to grant Dodge brothers their
request to receive maximum dividends . The respective court decision was an indirect ridicule of

Montag s Use Of Control In Fahrenheit 451
Next, all three of these titles had ways they implemented control. In the novel Fahrenheit 451,
implementation of control was through television. One day Mildred, the wife of the main character,
Montag, was in the house with nothing but TV s everywhere. Then from the novel, Montag said, How
long you figure we save up and get a fourth TV put in? . This quote explains one way control was
implemented through television because this shows how nowadays most of people s main concern is
the TV. TV is their main source for implementing control because with this source, they can tell
everyone what they want the people to hear. Especially because everyone has a TV, they can just show

In Fahrenheit 451, the plan for control wasn t too effective by the end of the story. Beatty s plan was to
have knowledge over everyone, but it didn t end that way. The last thing Montag the main character
and hero of the novel said was, When we reach the city. This quote explains how Beatty s plan didn t
work out, because if Beatty s plan had ve worked, Montag wouldn t be able to leave the town. Montag
also has a dramatic effect on Beatty, which left him to kill himself, and later the city explodes. In the
novel, 1984, the effectiveness of the plan failed and became a dystopian for the main character,
Winston. Towards the end of the story, Winston shows how Big Brother had finally gotten to him by
telling the love of his life, Julia, Under the spreading chestnut tree,I sold you and you sold me . This
quote represents how the effectiveness of the utopian society failed because it shows how Winston
started off as a normal person, and by brainwashing him, they turned him into a totally different
person. For the people of that society hope is very low, thanks to the team of people always watching
making their lives miserable. Finally, in the movie The Giver, the effectiveness of their plan to control
the people failed. Jonas the hero of this movie had became the new receiver for the injections and
medicine and stopped giving them to the people because he believed in human rights and giving a
chance for the people to have their own feelings. Due to Jonas s braveness, he was able to change the
Elder s utopia into a dystopia. It then became a utopia for the people because they have feelings and
can express themselves now. All three titles had an equally ineffective utopia, and ended up with their
plans failing. Regardless of the implementation or motivation, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and The Giver,
are all unsuccessful in establishing a utopia because you can t control

Causes And Effects Of Phobias
Effects:
Phobias are rarely life threatening, but they can make sufferers unreasonably stressed. Some phobias
inhibit the quality of life of a person and make it difficult for them to gain employment or education.
Some effects of phobias include:
Life Limiting: Depending on what the phobia is, it may be found a struggle to run errands, go out with
friends or working every day. These limitations can make the person feel isolated. It also makes it
difficult keeping friends and develops doubts on why he/she are not like everybody else.
Embarrassments: Phobias can cause awkward and embarrassing situations. These kinds of phobias are
difficult to manage due to the underlying fear of humiliation. Having a phobic reaction can feel
humiliating, reinforcing the fear and making the phobia more difficult to manage.
Feeling out of control: Usually, the person experiencing it would be aware of it and that it is an
irrational fear but wouldn t be able to control the actions made. Wonders are thought about how life
would be different without those fears.
Helplessness: It may appear when one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not the way you live along your phobia as if it does not exist, but it is how you learn to overcome
this phobia in a way that it would cease to exist. Not every person experiencing a fear necessary has a
phobia. They are two different aspects in which it depends on the degree of suffering. For example,

Sorcery And Magic In Ancient Civilizations
Discuss the existence and practise of sorcery and magic within three civilisations
(ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and ancient India)
Magic and sorcery have implemented a major influence on humans throughout time. Its power is to
induce the supernatural which intertwine with individual s everyday events. Due to the belief in the
supernatural forces, the existence and practise of sorcery and magic was prevalent within many
ancient societies. It was eminently common within three major civilisations; ancient Egypt, ancient
Greece and ancient India. Although these civilisations are geographically dispersed, they each share
common principles and similarities, such as whether everyone within the civilisation accepted and

Maternal Instinct in The Turn of the Screw Essay
Henry James The Turn of the Screw is one of the more disputed texts in all of literature, as it is
famously known as an ambiguous text. The primary uncertain element of is whether there are ghosts
scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane. Even though
a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are much more black
and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to normal. There are three
key relationships in The Turn of the Screw: the Governess and Mrs. Grose, the Governess and Miles,
and the governess and Flora. All of these relationships show how the governess s maternal instinct
influences her interactions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real
possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way she
can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going on.
Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between the
governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the story, the
governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora along with her to
go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have just left Flora at Bly
manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However, since the governess is new,
she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things work. Therefore, the governess
probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring
her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal instinct. A second example of the governess
exercising her maternal relationship can be found on page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene,
the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that
Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had
been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply, it was the

Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment
For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab
period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was there for
the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer as they were
both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was instructed by the
team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer reached into the water bath
picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip from its cap and fall to the table.
While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near the cross trainer with a stopwatch
trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling the safety officer reached out to catch
it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table. Review attached accident report in the
appendix for further detail of the accident.
During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density and
viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the pipe
flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty trials
for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. These trial numbers

The United States Civil War: A Time of Change and Equality for All
The United States Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, represented a time of major change
around the world. This civil war that absorbed our nation during the mid 1860s not only fought for the
rights of African Americans in the United States but for the rights and respects of African Americans
around the globe. These times of fighting altered the lives of women living in a strongly patriarchal

Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution
For over three hundred years, Russia had been controlled by an autocratic government known as the
tsarist regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over the
country. (BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to impose its
will on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of force
caused repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially an
outburst from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two separate
strikes in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike which
placed the Bolshevik party in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic
transformation to the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took
power over Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which proved
vital for Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to the
country s development. Today, in modern history we credit Vladimir Lenin for the Revolution s
succession. However, many people forget to acknowledge the role played by Leon Trotsky who stood
by Lenin s side throughout the Revolution. I believe that Leon Trotsky and his actions during the
Russian Revolution were essential to the security of the revolution and therefore his overall impact
and status is heroic.

Food Stamp History
A History of Food Stamps
The primary goal of food stamps is to increase food security and reduce national hunger in the United
States. Each year, out of the one trillion dollars that the United States Government has to spend on
assistance and welfare, food stamps takes up about 70 billion dollars (The History of NAP). The
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or previously known as the Food Stamp Program)
started through the Agriculture Adjustment Act (AAA) and since then has spread around its influence

Johnson instated the Food Stamp Act which made the Food Stamp Program permanent. Congress saw
this as an opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy; to help achieve a fuller and more
effective use of food abundances; to provide for improved levels of nutrition among low income
households through a cooperative Federal State program of food assistance to be operated through
normal channels of trade (Puro, Steven). In order for this program to function Congress would
distribute out paper food stamps each month through a welfare office to those personnel or families
who made the poverty line or below. Right after the Food Stamp Act of 1964 was adopted by
Congress and the United States, many legislators have debated funding, eligibility standards,
accessibility, and accountability (Food Distribution). However, this program did lead to a boost in the
economy. Not only did low income families get the nutritional supplements that they needed, but it
also caused food stamps to be cash equivalent to actual money which let customers buy other grocery
items that were not part of the food program which expanded options (Rude,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Virtue Ethics
Virtue Ethics is neither deontological nor teleological, since it is concerned with neither duty nor
consequences, but rather the state of the person acting. Aristotle believed that once you are good, good
actions will necessarily follow, and this belief is at the centre of Virtue Ethics. Rather than defining
good actions, Virtue Ethics looks at good people and the qualities that make them good. The non
normative theory, although very effective in determining the morality of individuals, is particularly
flawed when applied to whole societies. This weakness is largely due to its imprecision and
abstraction; however, before these weaknesses can be considered, it is necessary to give an account of
the theory itself. Virtue Ethics is centred on the belief that everything has a purpose and that, when
something fulfils its purpose, it is good. For example, the purpose of a knife is to cut, and so a knife
that cuts well has achieved its purpose. This links in to Aristotle s ideas about the Four Causes and the
Final Cause. Plato and Aristotle agreed that the purpose of humanity was the fulfilment of flourishing,
and this is known as eudaimonia. When a person has achieved eudaimonia they will be fully content
with their lives and they will act morally because they want to. He referred to eudaimonia as an end in
itself . Aristotle insists that this telos can only be achieved through the use of reason, since the ergon
(function) of reason in practice is virtue. He says: The good

Scarlet Letter The Puritan Beliefs As Told Through The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne was not a Puritan. But Hawthrone s forefathers were Puritans, so he had an
understanding of their belief system and their basis behind it. He stated that he hoped the sins of his
forefathers had been forgiven. Hoping to expose those ideas which he understood, yet despised,
Hawthorne purposely presented many important Puritan beliefs as import aspects to the Scarlet Letter.
In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne addresses three main Puritan beliefs: providence, predestination, and
the strict code of ethics that the settlers of New Englanders lived by.

A second Puritan belief referred to in the Scarlet Letter is the idea of predestination. Predestination is
the belief that God has a plan for all his people and no matter how hard one works to change that
outcome, it will eventually be. The townspeople when Dimmesdale falls ill falsely believe it to come
forth out of the conflict, transfigured with the ... glory... (110). And since this earthly minister was
chosen as a battleground for the conflict between good and evil, he was predetermined to rise to a
saintly post in the heavens. Upon his death, Dimmesdale states ... it is vain to hope that we could
meet... in an everlasting and pure reunion. God knows... (226). And if God is the ultimate judge of his
fate and knows Dimmesdale s fate, it seems logical that Dimmesdale s fate is already predetermined.
The final belief of Puritan society mentioned by Hawthorne is the strict code of ethics. The Puritans
believed that every sin should be meet with an earthly punishment and well as a spiritual punishment.
The earthly punishment would often involve public humiliation. Harsher punishments would often
involve extended public infamy. The scarlet letter is an excellent example. As Roger Chillingworth
said : I can imagine a scheme of vengeance... so that this... burning shame may blaze upon thy bosom

Analysis Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is a classic piece of children s fantasy literature that was
published by the English author C.S. Lewis in 1950. It vividly portrays the fictitious lives of four
young siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy during the time period of World War II. The reader
travels along with the siblings, as they discover the magical land of Narnia that extends beyond an
enormous wardrobe. The children within the story develop as a result of their experience within
Narnia, and ultimately grow as individuals based on the struggles they face. The reader travels along
with them while contemplating issues of good versus evil, problem solving, moral reasoning and
identity development. A literary element from this text that helps shine multiple lights onto the same
story, is the third person omniscient narrative. Within the novel, the narrator makes extensive use of
the omniscience. Through the eyes of a child: An introduction to children s literature notes that when
writing from the omniscient point of view, the author is not restricted to the knowledge, experiences,
and feelings of one person; the feelings and thoughts of all characters can be revealed. (Norton, 98).
Specific to this novel, the reader is sometimes receiving messages and focusing exclusively from
Lucy, such as when she made her first trip into the wardrobe. Lucy felt a little frightened, but she felt
very inquisitive and excited as well. She looked back over her shoulder and there,

Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
In the general prologue to Geoffrey Chaucer s, The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer reveals his
dissatisfaction of the distribution of power and how that power was maintained in the Medieval
England estate system, through the use of his physical description of each of the pilgrims and by the
personality of specific members of each caste. To portray these characters and the flaws that they
represent in actual medieval society, Chaucer heavily relies on the use of irony to describe many of the
travelers in ways that are complete opposites of how they should ideally be in society. The majority of
the travelers in The Canterbury Tales are nameless and are introduced by their position in society and
what their role is. The first pilgrim we are introduced to, is the Knight, who is described as being a
man of Truth, honour, generousness and courtesy (4). The narrator then describes his appearance as
not gaily dressed and the Knights reasoning for attending the pilgrimage as simply a way to render
thanks (5). While the Knight is portrayed as a virtuous pilgrim, we are introduced to his son, the
Squire. The Squire is a knight in training who is described as being A lover and cadet...With locks as

chosen to pursue the knighthood, is not because of honor or pride like his father, but only in hope to

started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about
subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be
writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain
for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I
learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice
and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some
in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person
possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot
override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater
good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation,
but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority.
My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways
America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone
cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow
people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always
try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article

Ph And Colyer Lake Has A Concentration Of 3.00
ppm, and Colyer Lake has a concentration of 2.00 x
10 4 M or 20 ppm.
AA analysis (table 3) also supports the order for hardness of the samples by giving a total hardness
value of 166.1 ppm for Speedwell Forge Lake, 34.59 ppm for
Kyle Lake, and 11.81 ppm for Colyer Lake.
These results do not agree with my hypothesis. I predicted Colyer Lake to be the hardest because there
are more types of bedrock that can dissolve and contribute calcium and magnesium ions into the
water. I also predicted Speedwell Forge Lake to be the softest because the only type of rock to
contribute cations is sandstone. Sandstone contains silica, calcium carbonate, and iron oxide, so very
little Ca2+ should have been dissolved into the water.9

These lakes are purely recreational lakes, not associated with public water use. The Characteristics of
Recreational Lakes published by the Department of Environmental Resources in 1978 did not
document all of the lakes in Pennsylvania, but instead sampled major lakes in the state that are
required to be tested for harness due to drainage of water for public use. I obtained hardness results for
three of the lakes that are closest to the three lakes sampled in this experiment. Memorial Lake in
Lebanon County is the closest documented lake to
Speedwell Forge Lake. It had a Ca concentration of 4.8 mg/L, Mg concentration of 1.3 mg/L and a
total hardness of 18 ppm. Parker Dam Lake is closest to Kyle Lake. It had a
Ca concentration of 3.7 mg/L, Mg concentration of 1.4 mg/L and a total hardness of 15 ppm. Lastly,
Poe Valley Lake is closest to Colyer Lake. It had a Ca concentration of 2.7 mg/L, Mg concentration of
1.4 mg/L, and a total hardness of 13 ppm.10 According to the results for these lakes, which are in
close vicinity to the lakes tested in this experiment, the pattern of hardness across Pennsylvania agrees
with the pattern of hardness found in the experiment.
The results of total hardness from AA was found to be higher than the results from EDTA for Colyer
Lake and Kyle Lake. This should be the case, because it is harder to recognize the end point in
titrations during EDTA. For instance, the concentration of a substance that has been

Total Hysterectomy Case Study
Total Hysterectomy It is an operation to remove the uterus. Most hysterectomies are performed to treat
conditions such as fibroids, heavy bleeding, endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine prolapse, and cancer.
This may cause depression to some individuals (Vomvolaki et al., 2006). Depression Depression is a
mood affective disorder. It could lead to impaired cognitive function and affects the person s thoughts,
behaviour, sleeping habit, and appetite. Counselling, psychotherapy, and antidepressant medication
can be given to treat depression (Avenevoli, 2015). Drug Regimen Digoxin: Digoxin is a cardiac

Butterfly Theory In A Sound Of Thunder
The Story I chose for my research paper was A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury. I chose this story
because out of all the stories I ve read this semester this one has been the most intriguing. It s a story
like no other a story set in a distant future that I hope I never live to see. Time travel is inherently
dangerous and should never be used lightly. The butterfly effect otherwise known as the chaos theory
is a prime example of why you should never screw with the past. The chaos theory is defined as
followed in the Dictionary Butterfly effect (with reference to chaos theory) the phenomenon whereby
a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere .
Before we look into the story it s important to analyses this theory further. Because it s a very
important part of this story. If you go back in time and kill a butterfly, when you return the world
could be a completely different place. So, what its saying is if you mess with the natural order of time
by killing or destroying something before its time, there could be grave consequences in store when
you return to your time.
Now that we have a basic understanding of the butterfly effect let s look at Time travel itself. Einstein
s theory is as follows Einstein s theory of special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up
depending on how fast you move relative to something else. Approaching the speed of light, a person
inside a spaceship would age much slower than his twin at home. Also,

Sustainable Development, International Law, and Trade
Sustainable Development, International Law and the Impact of Trade
At a time when trade continues to expand into the global economy, issues such as climate change,
environmental protection and sustainable development are becoming increasingly important
considerations in the process. However, the question is whether these issues are being adequately
addressed by current International trade regulations, trade agreements and International law.
According to the Australia Government, sustainable development represents one of the greatest
challenges facing Australia s governments, industry, business and community in the coming years .1
What is Sustainable Development?
The most widely accepted definition of sustainable development is from the Brundtland report,
namely, Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present, without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 2 This statement contains two
main aspects, first that the present generation s needs are met (intra generational equity) but more
importantly, that it is not made more difficult for future generation to meet their needs (inter
generational equity). Since the report was published, sustainable development has become an integral
part of environmental policy and has been the subject of numerous conferences and summits including
and the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992,3 the World
Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD,

The Adventrue of Hucleberry Fin by Mark Twain
The classic novel Huckleberry Fin, by Mark Twain, has been debated of being appropriate or not due
to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and phrases
such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had actually
read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses necessary
racism in order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray Twains
message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one race over another.
What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting of the novel
(Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were common and use
of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time when blacks were not
treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or emotions. For instance, Jim is
initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered Miss Watson property that was about
to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist attitudes of the South are were most
obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he relates to the runaway slave, Jim. He plays
tricks on Jim and uses dialogue that makes him appear foolish or perhaps to make Jim painfully aware
of his own belittlement. During their entire journey Huck and Jim become closer. They achieved a

Adoption Programs Help Increase Dog Adoptions
Many people understand the awful living conditions in animal shelters. Upon entering, one
immediately notices the stench of unwashed animals, the dirt and grime that coat the walls, and the
pleading, desperate faces of the inhabitants. While this is a serious issue, there is a far more important
one at hand: the euthanization, or killing, of healthy animals in shelters. In a population chart of dogs
in the United States, over a third (2.4 million) died in shelters (Ortega Pacheco Jiménez Coello 235).
The high number of dogs killed in shelters emphasizes the need to prevent shelter animal euthanasia.
In order to save the lives of healthy shelter animals, methods such as initiating adoption programs,
desexing companion animals, increasing volunteer and staff effectiveness, and raising community
awareness must be enforced.
Specialized adoption programs help decrease the number of animals in shelters, thus reducing the
number euthanized. At a shelter in Louisiana, the employees began an adoption program designed to
increase dog adoptions. The dogs chosen for the program were given to foster homes, which were
tasked with marketing and finding permanent homes for the dogs. The program decreased the number
of dogs staying in the shelter, which in turn reduced the euthanasia rate. Using a program such as this
in all communities would reduce the staff time, daily care costs, and shelter housing needed (Mohan
Gibbons 2). If implementing a similar program at every shelter or

K Pop s Shady Business Secret Essay
K pop s Shady Business Secret
The Korean pop or K pop industry over the last decade has experienced a major increase in popularity
that has made it a billion dollar competition for foreign music industries. They are especially known
for their extravagant music videos and visual aesthetics, which have attracted worldwide followings.
K pop companies are also infamous for being brutally strict on training and restrictions for their
trainees and idols. They fixate on the business growth over the musical talent and content. The
problem that stems from creativity and commerce overlapping in the Korean pop industry is the
unethical treatment of its trainees along with the racialization and exploitation of idol groups in
different global markets, due to the commanding force of the industry.
The last decade has seen the rapid globalization and popularity of the korean entertainment industry
worldwide, which is known as the Hallyu wave. It expanded into international markets through social
media platforms such as Youtube, which served as a method of free mass distribution, securing many
international fans. Having recently broken into the American and European market, K pop exists as
Korea s biggest export, the industry itself being worth $3 billion. This results in creativity being
determined by how much business flows into the industry internationally. As a result, there is looming
pressure on the industry to continue growing and making big money. K pop is a business in which

The Bubonic Renaissance And The Renaissance
The Renaissance was a crucial part of the change from the hierarchy and social order that dominated
The Dark Ages to the social mobility that developed when the Early Modern Period began. Due to a
myriad of factors, such as the Bubonic plague, which had devastating effects on the population during
the Late Middle Ages. This combined with the nobility s need for peasant labor resulted in common
people demanding higher wages and increasing the prices of their products. Likewise, skilled workers
could charge more money, since they no longer had as much competition (Perry 189). As a result, the
common people were able to engage in social and economic development, which lead to spiritual
advancement. These changes were reflected throughout Renaissance literature, such as Hamlet by
Shakespeare, Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola s Oration on the Dignity of Man, and The Prince by
Niccolo Machiavelli, as well as religious works such as the The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri,
The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, and The 95 Theses by Martin
Luther. These works represent the development of a new social structure that occured in conjunction
with the increase learning during the Renaissance. Throughout the Middle Ages, the common people
were seen as inferior, inheriting their low social status and lacking any opportunity to advance in
society. When the Bubonic plague ravaged the common population and the Renaissance movement
took hold of Europe, there was

Character Analysis Of Charlotte Douglas
Surprisingly, I found myself liking Charlotte Douglas from Didion s novel more than any of the other
characters that we have read so far. Grace s initial analysis of Charlotte as someone who merely
dreams their life left me with the impression that she was not going to be a character I would relate to
or even remotely identify with. As the book went on, Charlotte grew on me more and more. I loved
how mysterious behaviors such as her frequent visits to the airport were explained early on in the book
as a mere vehicle for socialization, masquerading, and entertainment, leaving the reader to view her
with a certain degree of disdain. Later in the book, the reader begins to realize that Charlotte is
possibly using the airport as a means of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Churchgoing Christian men are convinced they are on a moral crusade to violently put an end to the
convent in Ruby only through a series of misunderstandings that lead them to believe that mass
abortions and witchcraft are occurring in the confines of their town. Even though readers will not
often particularly like many characters in the novels they read, insights can absolutely be gained from
them.
The differing styles in approaching perspectives in their storytelling between Didion and the
combination of Boyle and Morrison have significant effects on each of their stories. Didion chooses to
provide her story through the use of a singular narrator, while Boyle and Morrison choose to offer
multiple perspectives. At no point did I feel like my involvement in A Book of Common Prayer was
affected negatively by the use of a singular narrator. By only introducing the reader to Grace s point of
view, the reader is able to fully immerse themselves in the allure of Charlotte Douglas s character and
Grace s fascination with her. The reader is able to see their own opinion of Charlotte change just as
Grace s does when she is provided with new information about her character. Had Didion s novel been
from multiple perspectives, it likely would have been a vastly more political novel, with the tensions
of Marin, Antonio, Gerardo, and Victor s characters being highlighted. The singular perspective of A
Book of Common Prayer allows for more impetus to be put

  • 2. An Inspector Calls Eva Smith Character Analysis Apart from Mrs. Birling, Priestley in his play An Inspector Calls, conveys women as very weak and inferior characters; as the play was set in 1912, we can see how women were stereotypically made to be obedient and loyal to their husbands. Through the character of Eva Smith the theme of vulnerability is portrayed, and through the character of Sheila we can see how women are shown as materialistic and incompetent. Throughout the play Priestley exhibits the character of Eva Smith as an impuissant character; she is mentioned very frequently as she highlights the faults of society in 1912 due to the ill excused way she was treated, being inferior to males of her own class as well as those much wealthier than her. Yet she never makes an appearance in the play. When she is first mentioned she is portrayed as weak when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this we can infer that Priestley is portraying women as weak, as if they can not speak their own mind, therefore Gerald had to talk for her since she could not do it herself. He goes to open the door while Sheila takes her mother out. Then he closes it and comes back in, from these stage directions we can see how Priestlety conveys how the women are too fragile to be involved in important conversations. The fact that Sheila takes her mother out , as the men stay inside and continue to discuss, portrays that the women are not only too weak to handle the conversation but also that they are unimportant in the matter, as they did not need to stay. This concludes the fact that women are exhibited as insignificant and weak through Sheila s unimportance and delicate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Advantage And Disadvantage Of Multiplier 1.1 INTRODUCTION Multipliers play a key role in many high performance systems. As the technology advances, the demand of high speed digital systems increases or we can say the demand of high speed multiplier increases because the multiplier is a main component in every digital system. Multipliers are used as small blocks in large digital systems like FIR filters, microprocessors, digital signal processors, communication systems etc. So to find performance of a large digital system is measured by the performance of the multiplier because the multiplier is mainly the slowest element in the large systems; consequently multiplication dominates the execution time of most DSP algorithms, so a high speed multiplier is always required. As compared to other operations in an ALU, the multiplier also uses more power. Thus scientists have always been trying to design a multiplier which utilizes less power, time and area and increases speed. Multiplication is such a mathematical operation in which a number i.e. multiplicand is added to itself a given number of times as indicated by another number i.e. multiplier to form a result. A digital circuit used to multiply two numbers is called a multiplier. Multiplication, as in mathematics, consists of shifting and adding the partial products. The same concept is used here in digital multipliers. For unsigned number multiplication, AND gates are utilized for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If by strength we do not mean brutish strength, but strength of character, steadfastness, endurance, she should be called sabala , strong. When a woman, whom we call abala , becomes sabala , all those who are helpless will become powerful. Such empowering may not be bestowed upon them by legislation or assistance only offered by men. We may refer to the harrowing story of Arzina who became the victim of the claws of her husband. The story was published in The Daily Star on 6 August 2008: Her husband, Kamruzzaman Kamu, who teaches at a college, set fire to Arzina chasing in the kitchen and locked the room to ensure death. • 6. The Pros And Cons Of High School Athletes Athletes Yes or No There has been many occasions where high school teachers have to make a hard decision when an athlete is failing, what should they do. I believe that no high school athlete deserves any help from their teachers in order to play. They should be able to complete the circumstances needed in school if they truly wanted to play the sport these athletes are in. If this idea was allowed in high school what will happen to these kids later on in life like in college, will they be able to accomplish the goals at that point when it matters most? Many high schools and teachers don t realize the damage they can do to these athletes if they do give them those couple extra points to play. According to a website, Any student should have good grades to play sports. Even if you are a great athlete, you will probably not get a full athletic scholarship. Having good grades can lessen your stress about affording college ( psychologytoday.com ). In this case, what teachers don t know is not only are they making that athlete happy to play, but at the same time you are hurting that person for future references, when later in their future college sees the kind of grades that athlete is getting he may not be the kind of fit for whichever school that may be. Overall any student that has failed a class and is not able to play that athlete shouldn t be able to play at all. I have a secret about Ulrich, too, she said, while waving her finger in the air vaguely. I taught him how to use his tongue on a woman and he is excellent at it! The room fell dead quiet for a moment, until finally, Gawain pitched over onto his back and cackled with hysterics. That s great! said the drunk knight from his supine position on the floor. Can you teach me? That would be quite the lesson. He and Carina both roared with laughter until she said, Word has it the great Sir Gawain needs no help in that area. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of The Nineteenth Amendment Not everyone in the United States agreed with the Nineteenth Amendment being passed. Two months after the Federal Government declared that the Amendment had been incorporated to the Constitution in August of 1920, Oscar Lesser sued to stop two women [Cecilia Street Waters and Mary D. Randolph] to vote in Baltimore, Maryland. Lesser believed the Maryland Constitution limited the suffrage to men . He said that Maryland had refused to vote regarding the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, and should not be subject to its application.. In 1922, Leser v. Garnett, was argued before the United States Supreme Court. The plaintiffs of the case argued that the Nineteenth Amendment was not passed constitutionally. They claimed there were three principal grounds to their argument, which were: that the power to amend the Constitution did not cover this amendment because of its character ; that several states that had ratified the amendment despite the fact that their state constitutions prohibited women from voting; and that, in particular, the ratifications of the states of Tennessee and West Virginia were were invalid because they were adopted without following the rules of legislative procedure in place in those states . In a unanimous decision, the court ruled that the amendment was passed constitutionally. In their decision, the court responded to each of the three arguments. Lesser s first argument claimed that if Amendment s are added without the State s consent, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Effects Of Socioeconomic Status On Middle Childhood Essay The Effects of Socioeconomic Status from Birth to Middle Childhood Socioeconomic status is the driving force behind many aspects of life. In this essay I will touch on several ways in which it can impact areas of development both in the United States and other places around the world. The first area I would like to look at is Behavior. In the textbook chapter 2 discusses behavior genetics and heritability. It discusses the relationship between the genetic and the environmental influences using SES as an example on environment as it relates to intelligence. The book states that some studies find middle class families to have higher heritability of intelligence not due to different genes than those in a lower SES but because they have access to greater resources. (Arnett, 2016) Another study used a Family based training program in lower SES preschoolers. Children from different socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds display profound disparities in cognitive skills, brain structure and function, and academic outcomes (e.g., refs. 1⇓⇓ 4). Because academic disparities associated with SES are increasing in many societies (5), there is strong motivation to develop and implement training programs that can narrow these achievement gaps. (Neville, et al., 2013) This study did find that the children in the Family based program showed significant changes in the reduction of problem behavior and improvement in their social skills. • 11. Hunting Vs Hunting Essay Misconceptions Vs. Reality of Hunting Many people have misconstrued ideas about what it means to be a hunter. Some have this idea in their heads that hunters are just out to kill and have no respect for the environment the animals live in or the animals themselves. When in reality hunters care more about the environment than most people because of the very fact that they care about the animals they hunt. Hunting is one of the best way to bring a family together like no other activity. The misconception that hunting is a just an individualized activity couldn t be more wrong. When hunting with your family, you experience an adventure with your loved ones that brings you all closer together like no other way. The truths of what it means to be a hunter are hunters care about the animals they hunt and the environment they hunt in more than the average person. Hunting is a great way to bring the family together unlike any other activity. Also, hunting brings people closer to nature in way unlike any other. And it s this connection with nature that keeps hunters humbled by the environment they are in and the animals that live in it. Hunters know more about the animals they hunt and the environment they live in better than anyone else. Before a hunter ventures off to pursue the animal they are hunting, weeks of pre season scouting are required in order to pattern the animal to get in close enough to make a kill. The misconception that hunters have to just drive around and watch for an animal then go kill it is completely absurd. Hunters spending days even weeks looking for and observing the animals they are attempting to harvest, and coming up with a game plan on how they are going to harvest them. Biologists, the Game and Fish Departments, and many other wildlife agency s depend on hunters reports for accurate data in measuring the health of big game herds. When a hunter receives their tag in the mail, it usually will come with a blood testing kit. The Game and Fish started issuing these kits a few years ago in an attempt to track where the brucellosis disease was spreading to. Now, the Game and Fish could have just tranquilized a few hundred elk from each area surrounding the state of Wyoming over the years. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Comparison Of Malkovich s Of Mice And Men Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck has been adapted to various films and plays, most notably Malkovich s Hollywood movie adaptation in 1992 and Robert Blake s television parody in 1981. Malkovich s makes a good choice for the music at the start and is also effective at conveying the law at the time, but it s lacking due to its depiction of the American environment during the depression. Blake s adaptation successfully conveys personalities of the characters and also show a relevant atmosphere; however, the start of his movie is unclear and unbelievable. Malkovich s movie uses relevant music and shows how the law worked in 1937. During the start of the movie, the music starts off with just one part, but eventually grows, both in the number of parts and volume, this helps convey the suspense at the start of ... Blake was also able to show an atmosphere which was similar to the one of the Great Depression. When George and Lennie got to Aunt Clara s house a close up shot of the solitary house, surrounded by nothing but fencing was shown. This could be symbolic of how most people were isolated during the Great Depression and were unwilling to help people in desperate times. • 13. Golfers Executive Summary GolfLogix was founded in May of 1999 by Todd Kuta and Scott Lambrecht. The GolfLogix system used Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and came equipped with a handheld receiver called the xCaddie. The xCaddie made it easier for golfers to measure the distance between their current position and the green. This concept helped diffuse the frustrations of the golfers themselves and of the other golfers who were waiting on the course. In 2002, GolfLogix was faced with the decision of whether or not to keep focusing their target market on the individual golf courses or to start marketing directly to consumers. After researching the company, its competitors, and the industry, we were able to consider both options and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The xCaddie was easy for the golfers to read and it enabled the golfers to view their distances in both yards and meters. The product also included custom features that would tailor to the different needs of the different golfers (Gourville 1). After deciding they wanted to carry out the idea, the two men first had to find out if such a device would be legal in the United State Golf Association (USGA). They found that the standard rule for using a GPS was that it could be used for recreational golf but could not be used during tournament play (Gourville 3). By May 2002, GolfLogix consisted of six full time employees and had managed to raise $12 million. Although the company seemed to have a great start in the industry, there were many measurement systems that were currently being used by golf courses all around the world, including the yardage markers, sprinkler heads, yardage booklets, and rangefinders (Gourville 4). The yardage markers are considered the most widely used tool for golfers to measure the distance between the green and their current position. The yardage markers are typically colored plastic or concrete plates that are embedded in the center of the fairway. The sprinkler head system involves marking the distances on the sprinkler heads. • 14. Should Kids Get A Trophy Essay Should all kids get a trophy even if they don t win anything? This is the question I will be answering today giving both sides. The first thing I have to say is that it just costs too much money to give everyone a trophy. Second kids want to earn trophies not give them handed to them is just makes them mean less to other people. Third I think the people need some let down in their life so they can improve themselves instead of just moving along. So really do kids need to get trophies after everything they do? First the cost I can t stress enough how much of a waste of money it is to give away participation trophies. The kid will get it and in about 2 years it will be in the garbage because it has no value to them. When say if they got a 1st ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But for older kids it s just going to be a letdown more than it is going to be a reminder of how good he/she did. Kids want achievements and if they don t get that then they will always become soft and think everything is given to them. Lastly people need to improve themselves not just think it s all they can do they need to keep trying to achieve the trophy they want. Kids need to realize what they can do so they need to actually try if we just give them things they won t learn. If you did really bad and you felt bad would you want a participation trophy so you could remember that day you didn t do well. So there are always two sides of the story so I m going to show you the other side. Why all kids should get a trophy for participating. First it could make the kid confidant make himher think that achieved something and at a little age that makes sense. Second kids might want something to show what they did or just want a trophy. • 15. Cane Toads And Its Effects On America Known in the scientific community as Bufo marinus, cane toads were introduced to Australia in the mid 1900 s t rate from their native home of South America. Sugarcane crops were at risk of destruction from the infestation of beetles, and these species were brought in to help counter the negative effect that the beetles were having on farms. These amphibians have the ability to grow up to 4.4 pounds, and were soon doing more harm than good. Not only were the cane toads eating the beetles that they were meant to, but they also started including native insect eaters in their diets (Roach). This new addition to their food source helped the toads to thrive and expand their habitat region. Cane toads are known for their venomous features and are infamous for their inability to control the cane toads. Rather than halting the spread of the cane beetles, these organisms themselves spread at an unbelievably fast rate. Only three thousand cane toads were released into the plantations that were infested in Australia, but presently, millions are inhabitants of this continent. They were originally only located in north Queensland but have somehow spread thousands of square miles into northeast Australia. Now recognized as a pest, the Australian government is informing civilians on how to properly collect them and is teaching them appropriate disposal methods. There are little to no natural predators that would normally control the population size of the cane toads, so their population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For purposes of this paper it is pivotal to look into the past to see what stood behind the broadening of companies accountability beyond the standard agency theory (limited liability of shareholders for the company s violations or breach and the company s main accountability being towards its shareholders and investors only) to the stakeholder theory (company s accountability towards a broad range of stakeholders, including employees, environment and local communities). This at the time was widely opposed by proponents of corporate isolation as a highly irrelevant research topic that went in no parallel or connection with the idea of a corporate veil, charter accountability and the sole purpose of any company to bring profits to its shareholders. This reverts us back to the development of a stakeholder theory that gradually gained its speed in the 1970s . It soon found its implementation in Freeman s management discipline , who promoted the expansion of firms accountability towards a broader range of stakeholders. One of the examples of how attitude towards CSR by multinational corporations has changed was raised by Lee, when he reviewed corporate governance codes and practices of Ford . He used two instances in the history of corporate actions of Ford with an interval of 80 years in between them. Keeping in mind the abovementioned Clark s remarks on corporate accountability back in 1916, this becomes even more educational, as it shows a dramatic change in shareholders perception of their business as a service to the broader society. There, in 1919 Ford was faced with a lawsuit, as a result of which it agreed to grant Dodge brothers their request to receive maximum dividends . The respective court decision was an indirect ridicule of Henry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One day Mildred, the wife of the main character, Montag, was in the house with nothing but TV s everywhere. Then from the novel, Montag said, How long you figure we save up and get a fourth TV put in? . This quote explains one way control was implemented through television because this shows how nowadays most of people s main concern is the TV. The last thing Montag the main character and hero of the novel said was, When we reach the city. This quote explains how Beatty s plan didn t work out, because if Beatty s plan had ve worked, Montag wouldn t be able to leave the town. Montag also has a dramatic effect on Beatty, which left him to kill himself, and later the city explodes. In the novel, 1984, the effectiveness of the plan failed and became a dystopian for the main character, Winston. Towards the end of the story, Winston shows how Big Brother had finally gotten to him by telling the love of his life, Julia, Under the spreading chestnut tree,I sold you and you sold me . This quote represents how the effectiveness of the utopian society failed because it shows how Winston started off as a normal person, and by brainwashing him, they turned him into a totally different person. For the people of that society hope is very low, thanks to the team of people always watching making their lives miserable. Finally, in the movie The Giver, the effectiveness of their plan to control the people failed. Jonas the hero of this movie had became the new receiver for the injections and medicine and stopped giving them to the people because he believed in human rights and giving a chance for the people to have their own feelings. Due to Jonas s braveness, he was able to change the Elder s utopia into a dystopia. It then became a utopia for the people because they have feelings and can express themselves now. The primary uncertain element of is whether there are ghosts scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane. Even though a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are much more black and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to normal. However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way she can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going on. Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between the governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the story, the governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora along with her to go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have just left Flora at Bly manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However, since the governess is new, she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things work. Therefore, the governess probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal instinct. A second example of the governess exercising her maternal relationship can be found on page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene, the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply, it was the ... • 25. Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution For over three hundred years, Russia had been controlled by an autocratic government known as the tsarist regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over the country. (BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to impose its will on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of force caused repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially an outburst from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two separate strikes in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike which placed the Bolshevik party in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic transformation to the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took power over Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which proved vital for Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to the country s development. Today, in modern history we credit Vladimir Lenin for the Revolution s succession. • 31. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Virtue Ethics Virtue Ethics is neither deontological nor teleological, since it is concerned with neither duty nor consequences, but rather the state of the person acting. Aristotle believed that once you are good, good actions will necessarily follow, and this belief is at the centre of Virtue Ethics. Rather than defining good actions, Virtue Ethics looks at good people and the qualities that make them good. The non normative theory, although very effective in determining the morality of individuals, is particularly flawed when applied to whole societies. This weakness is largely due to its imprecision and abstraction; however, before these weaknesses can be considered, it is necessary to give an account of the theory itself. Virtue Ethics is centred on the belief that everything has a purpose and that, when something fulfils its purpose, it is good. For example, the purpose of a knife is to cut, and so a knife that cuts well has achieved its purpose. This links in to Aristotle s ideas about the Four Causes and the Final Cause. Plato and Aristotle agreed that the purpose of humanity was the fulfilment of flourishing, and this is known as eudaimonia. When a person has achieved eudaimonia they will be fully content with their lives and they will act morally because they want to. He referred to eudaimonia as an end in itself . Aristotle insists that this telos can only be achieved through the use of reason, since the ergon (function) of reason in practice is virtue. He says: The good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The upper clastic unit marks the start of Laramide orogeny, where the thick skin deformation began to occur. The fourth and the last member of the Kootenai Formation is the Gastropods limestone. Gastropod limestone formed a border between the Kootenai Formation and the Blackleaf Formation. This formation took place during the emergence of the Western Interior Seaway. Blackleaf Formation consists of the Flood member and the Vaughn member. • 38. Analysis Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is a classic piece of children s fantasy literature that was published by the English author C.S. Lewis in 1950. It vividly portrays the fictitious lives of four young siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy during the time period of World War II. The reader travels along with the siblings, as they discover the magical land of Narnia that extends beyond an enormous wardrobe. The children within the story develop as a result of their experience within Narnia, and ultimately grow as individuals based on the struggles they face. The reader travels along with them while contemplating issues of good versus evil, problem solving, moral reasoning and identity development. A literary element from this text that helps shine multiple lights onto the same story, is the third person omniscient narrative. Within the novel, the narrator makes extensive use of the omniscience. Through the eyes of a child: An introduction to children s literature notes that when writing from the omniscient point of view, the author is not restricted to the knowledge, experiences, and feelings of one person; the feelings and thoughts of all characters can be revealed. (Norton, 98). Specific to this novel, the reader is sometimes receiving messages and focusing exclusively from Lucy, such as when she made her first trip into the wardrobe. Lucy felt a little frightened, but she felt very inquisitive and excited as well. She looked back over her shoulder and there, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales In the general prologue to Geoffrey Chaucer s, The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer reveals his dissatisfaction of the distribution of power and how that power was maintained in the Medieval England estate system, through the use of his physical description of each of the pilgrims and by the personality of specific members of each caste. To portray these characters and the flaws that they represent in actual medieval society, Chaucer heavily relies on the use of irony to describe many of the travelers in ways that are complete opposites of how they should ideally be in society. The majority of the travelers in The Canterbury Tales are nameless and are introduced by their position in society and what their role is. The first pilgrim we are introduced to, is the Knight, who is described as being a man of Truth, honour, generousness and courtesy (4). The narrator then describes his appearance as not gaily dressed and the Knights reasoning for attending the pilgrimage as simply a way to render thanks (5). While the Knight is portrayed as a virtuous pilgrim, we are introduced to his son, the Squire. The Squire is a knight in training who is described as being A lover and cadet...With locks as curly a if they had been pressed (5). The narrator then states that the only reason why the Squire has chosen to pursue the knighthood, is not because of honor or pride like his father, but only in hope to win his lady s grace (5). It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation, but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority. My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

AA analysis (table 3) also supports the order for hardness of the samples by giving a total hardness value of 166.1 ppm for Speedwell Forge Lake, 34.59 ppm for Kyle Lake, and 11.81 ppm for Colyer Lake. These results do not agree with my hypothesis. I predicted Colyer Lake to be the hardest because there are more types of bedrock that can dissolve and contribute calcium and magnesium ions into the water. I also predicted Speedwell Forge Lake to be the softest because the only type of rock to contribute cations is sandstone. Sandstone contains silica, calcium carbonate, and iron oxide, so very little Ca2+ should have been dissolved into the water.9 Table 5: EDTA results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memorial Lake in Lebanon County is the closest documented lake to Speedwell Forge Lake. It had a Ca concentration of 4.8 mg/L, Mg concentration of 1.3 mg/L and a total hardness of 18 ppm. Parker Dam Lake is closest to Kyle Lake. It had a Ca concentration of 3.7 mg/L, Mg concentration of 1.4 mg/L and a total hardness of 15 ppm. Lastly, Poe Valley Lake is closest to Colyer Lake. • 44. Butterfly Theory In A Sound Of Thunder The Story I chose for my research paper was A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury. I chose this story because out of all the stories I ve read this semester this one has been the most intriguing. It s a story like no other a story set in a distant future that I hope I never live to see. Time travel is inherently dangerous and should never be used lightly. The butterfly effect otherwise known as the chaos theory is a prime example of why you should never screw with the past. The chaos theory is defined as followed in the Dictionary Butterfly effect (with reference to chaos theory) the phenomenon whereby a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere . Before we look into the story it s important to analyses this theory further. Because it s a very important part of this story. If you go back in time and kill a butterfly, when you return the world could be a completely different place. So, what its saying is if you mess with the natural order of time by killing or destroying something before its time, there could be grave consequences in store when you return to your time. Now that we have a basic understanding of the butterfly effect let s look at Time travel itself. Sustainable Development, International Law, and Trade Sustainable Development, International Law and the Impact of Trade At a time when trade continues to expand into the global economy, issues such as climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development are becoming increasingly important considerations in the process. However, the question is whether these issues are being adequately addressed by current International trade regulations, trade agreements and International law. According to the Australia Government, sustainable development represents one of the greatest challenges facing Australia s governments, industry, business and community in the coming years .1 What is Sustainable Development? The most widely accepted definition of sustainable development is from the Brundtland report, namely, Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 2 This statement contains two main aspects, first that the present generation s needs are met (intra generational equity) but more importantly, that it is not made more difficult for future generation to meet their needs (inter generational equity). Since the report was published, sustainable development has become an integral part of environmental policy and has been the subject of numerous conferences and summits including and the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992,3 the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD, ... • 46. The Adventrue of Hucleberry Fin by Mark Twain The classic novel Huckleberry Fin, by Mark Twain, has been debated of being appropriate or not due to the racist content within. Many disagree with Mark Twain s use of derogatory terms and phrases such as the word Nigger in his book. IT seems unlikely that anyone, of any color, who had actually read Huckleberry Fin...could accuse of it being racist (Kaplan 20). Huckleberry Fin uses necessary racism in order to show the culture and attributes of the time period as well as to portray Twains message of promoting equality and that they are not morally better if they are one race over another. What is now seen as racism was simply the culture and attributes during the time setting of the novel (Toltzman 1). Huck Fin was written when cruel and unjust treatments of blacks were common and use of derogatory words didn t get much attention. Huck Finn is during a time when blacks were not treated or thought as people but as objects without personalities or emotions. For instance, Jim is initially only knows to whose property he is. He was considered Miss Watson property that was about to be sold, which resulted in him running away. The racist attitudes of the South are were most obvious in the character of Huck Finn himself, and how he relates to the runaway slave, Jim. • 47. Adoption Programs Help Increase Dog Adoptions Many people understand the awful living conditions in animal shelters. Upon entering, one immediately notices the stench of unwashed animals, the dirt and grime that coat the walls, and the pleading, desperate faces of the inhabitants. While this is a serious issue, there is a far more important one at hand: the euthanization, or killing, of healthy animals in shelters. In a population chart of dogs in the United States, over a third (2.4 million) died in shelters (Ortega Pacheco Jiménez Coello 235). The high number of dogs killed in shelters emphasizes the need to prevent shelter animal euthanasia. In order to save the lives of healthy shelter animals, methods such as initiating adoption programs, desexing companion animals, increasing volunteer and staff effectiveness, and raising community awareness must be enforced. Specialized adoption programs help decrease the number of animals in shelters, thus reducing the number euthanized. At a shelter in Louisiana, the employees began an adoption program designed to increase dog adoptions. The dogs chosen for the program were given to foster homes, which were tasked with marketing and finding permanent homes for the dogs. The program decreased the number of dogs staying in the shelter, which in turn reduced the euthanasia rate. Using a program such as this in all communities would reduce the staff time, daily care costs, and shelter housing needed (Mohan Gibbons 2). If implementing a similar program at every shelter or ... • 49. The Bubonic Renaissance And The Renaissance The Renaissance was a crucial part of the change from the hierarchy and social order that dominated The Dark Ages to the social mobility that developed when the Early Modern Period began. Due to a myriad of factors, such as the Bubonic plague, which had devastating effects on the population during the Late Middle Ages. This combined with the nobility s need for peasant labor resulted in common people demanding higher wages and increasing the prices of their products. Likewise, skilled workers could charge more money, since they no longer had as much competition (Perry 189). As a result, the common people were able to engage in social and economic development, which lead to spiritual advancement. These changes were reflected throughout Renaissance literature, such as Hamlet by Shakespeare, Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola s Oration on the Dignity of Man, and The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, as well as religious works such as the The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, and The 95 Theses by Martin Luther. These works represent the development of a new social structure that occured in conjunction with the increase learning during the Renaissance. Throughout the Middle Ages, the common people were seen as inferior, inheriting their low social status and lacking any opportunity to advance in society.
