Free-Will And Determinism
Free Will and Determinism is it an Illusion?
Determinism, libertarianism and compatibilism are three significantly different views on where
unaccountability might stop and where free will and moral responsibility begin. Determinism is the
strict opinion that every action and decision is the cause of an event, genetics or the environment prior
to that action. Quite the opposite is libertarianism, which happens to be the genuine belief in free will
as well as the denial of universal causation. Finally, deep self compatibilism meshes both of these
stand points together and introduces the idea that one s action can be free if it stems purely out of
personal, authentic desire. Since all three judgments have a backbone of convincing ... Show more

Second, Silenus would agree that if something is caused it can never be free. Silenus is very high on
himself as he rarely ever takes Hench s threats seriously because he is intelligent enough to understand
that Hench feels responsible for anything that he does. This is partially because Silenus is constantly
reminding him that he isn t responsible for how his mind works and thus can never be held
accountable for any action that may blossem from his desires. Third, since Silenus concludes that he is
not responsible for what he is, free will and moral responsibility must cease to exist in his case. Don t
be silly Hench. Only human beings are responsible. I am what I am, (Satyr, 218). The Satyr considers
himself to be above human responsibility based on both his pre determined genetic information, and
also his environment when he s reduced to cleaning his creator s lab. To add, all human acquaintances
Silenus has had the displeasure of meeting label him as an untrustworthy beast. By soaking up human
behavior like a sponge, Silenus discovers that people can be extremely selfish, so he decides it is ok to
mock this behavior in a very direct manner. Therefore, Silenus the Satyr and his determinist view that
there are reasons behind every action have even Hench convinced that he is in fact liable for all
negative outcomes that Silenus may initiate.
In the beginning of the story, Hench is

Rockefeller Center Research Paper
Following a decade of a booming economy during the Roaring Twenties, New York suffered a period
of economic collapse, which began with the Wall Street Crash on Black Tuesday in 1929, and
continued with the Great Depression. The 1930s was a decade that was mostly consumed with
financial depression that left most of New York City in shambles. Many Americans did not see the
Depression coming, which resulted in mass panic that had a substantial effect on culture at the time.
New York City, was at the heart of the Depression, was also as a place of high architectural
advancement. Even in a crisis of economic failure, buildings such as the Chrysler Building, the
Empire State Building, and the Rockefeller Center were all colossal structures that were built that

Its distinctive architecture, outstanding tenants, and numerous amounts of facilities and services

and designers that the design of individual buildings did not need to be exquisite to be functional and

with service facilities and shops for its tenants and visitors. It was designed with users in mind to
attract people 24 hours a day for business, shopping, sightseeing, and for dining, theater or just plain
promenading on its tree shaded esplanades and flower filled plazas. The users of the Center could be
credited for the success of the Center, as they are vital for the practicality of what was envisioned the
Center would be used for. This was different as other buildings during this time were built to house as
many tenants as possible explaining why architects strived to construct buildings as tall as possible.
Architects of these other buildings did not take urban planning to the extent that the Rockefeller

A Brief Note On Urban And Rural Terms
Urban and Rural Terms
Guatemala is a country that has had rapid growth economically in the world. Guatemala is becoming
the most popular country in the sector of industry and tourism of Central American, its population has
continued to increase. The growth of the population invariably leads to urbanization, which refers to
the development of urban areas and the migration of people from rural to urban centers.
On the other hand, this has the reciprocal effect of the expansion of these centers much more towards
the outside, until they begin to invade the rural areas. (Country Review: Guatemala. 2003)
Guatemala has rural areas with a low population density and small settings. Guatemala has an
enormous potential for increasing its agricultural production that would lead to rural economic
growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. Guatemala is acknowledged as a leader in nontraditional
agriculture that exports in Central America; such as, green beans, snow peas, black beans, vegetables,
and fruits, which have grown exponentially over the past ten years helping and also benefitting
smallholder farmers. (said.gov/guatemala/education)
Guatemala Urban areas are created through urbanization and categorized by urban cities such as,
towns, colonies, and zones. Urban people defined by their advanced opportunities for education,
facilities for transport, business, and social interaction overall and a better standard of living.

Snake Brought Into Restaurant Rattles Nerves Summary
According to the article on CNN by Andreas Preuss Snake brought into restaurant rattles nerves, a
man brought a snake into a restaurant and informed employees that it was a service animal. He
claimed the snake was for his depression; the restaurant allowed the snake to stay based on this claim.
A diner stated, It started to slither down the booth behind her, describing her experience at the
restaurant. A snake is not a service animal according to the Americans with Disabilities Act, only a
dog and miniature horses that is individually trained to perform work or tasks for a disabled person is
considered a service animal.
It appears, the restaurant employees had little or no knowledge of the laws or guidelines in regards to
service animals. The issue of violating rights and offending customers or others comes into play
during this story. We are turning into a society of it doesn t matter what is right or wrong, but how it
will make other people feel. I do understand, the way we approach the subject will change the
outcome of the situation. I feel if you are worried about how you may or may not violate someone s

The Environmental Effect Of A Gas Refinery
Introduction: In this lab, the students will be testing waters to see what difference each compound will
make. It is needed to know how certain pH levels have different affects in order to understand other
possible affects. Nitrate, phosphate, and oxygen will all have an affect on freshwaters within
ecosystems. Also, the environmental effect that a petroleum refinery has around us to show why it
causes so much pollution.
Literature Review:
Before even going into the review first it is needed to know, what is pH or what does it even mean? It
is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution, high concentration of hydrogen ions and
has a low pH ( What is pH? n.d.). Solutions with low concentrations of hydrogen ions have a high pH.
Rain has a pH of 5.6. Main pollutants are responsible for this or acid depositions are sulfur dioxide
and nitrogen oxides. Possible affects are for one, when pH approaches five, non desirable species of
plankton and mosses may begin to invade, and population of bass will disappear. Second when the pH
is below a five, fish populations again will begin to disappear, the bottom is covered with un decayed
material, and mosses may dominate near shore areas. The third affect is when below 4.5 water is
devoid of fish. Fourth, aluminum ions attached to minerals in nearby soil can be released into lakes,
killing fish, and stimulating excessive mucus formation. Finally, most chronic effects of increased
acidity in water is interference with

Self Awareness And Self-Knowledge In Relationships
Self awareness and self knowledge in relationships What self knowledge? It can not be bought at the
price of effort or practice. Self knowledge happens by observing yourself in your relationship with
your classmates, your teachers and all those around you; it happens when you observe the ways of the
other, his gestures, his way of dressing, talking, contempt or flattery, and your reaction; it happens
when you observe everything that is happening in you and around you and you see as clearly as you
see your face in the mirror. When you look in the mirror, you see yourself as you are, is not it? You
may wish to have another head having another form, with a little more hair, a less ugly face, but the
facts are there, clearly reflected by the mirror, and you can not sweep them and say, That I am
beautiful! If you can look in the mirror of relationship exactly as you do in an ordinary mirror, then
self knowledge is endless. It s like walking into an unfathomable ocean without shores. Now we want
mostly to an end, we want to be able to say, I have come to the knowledge of me and I m happy. But
things are not happening as well. If you can look without condemning what you see without
comparing yourself to others, without wishing to be more beautiful or more virtuous, if you can just
watch what you are and continue on your way, you will discover that it is possible to go infinitely far.
So the journey is endless and there is the mystery, the beauty of the thing. What is

Italy who dreams of being a filmmaker. The road the boy, who eventually becomes a famous Italian
film director named Salvatore Di Vita, takes to reach his goal is difficult and includes many sacrifices
and trade offs. Today, the film is widely regarded as one of the most popular foreign films ever to be

consider why Cinema Paradiso received such critical acclaim, as well as relative mainstream
popularity. Cinema Paradiso received critical and popular praise because the film includes several

This is one of the stupidest plans you ve ever had. Have you even thought this through? You shook
your head in disbelief and glared at a very annoyed Bellamy. If you don t like my plan, why are you
here? Bellamy sassed, rolling his dark chocolate eyes in your direction. Pairing two kids who only

guts! Well no one asked you to speak, Y/N. Bellamy responded, not bothering to show you that he was
listening to what you were saying and turned around with a smug expression plastered on his face.

You try to hate him, but if you were honest with yourself, you d say that you have feelings for the
handsome rebel leader. The waterfall was truly magical. It looked as though it had a secret door
leading to the ocean when you stare at the aquarium blue water pounding down onto the rocks. If the
water wasn t ice cold, you d without a doubt be floating in the blissful rock pool at the bottom. The
flowers that grew on the land surrounding the waterfall were a creamy violet which smelt of sour wild
berries. You head over towards a large flat rock and sat down on it to relax your legs from the long
journey from camp. The rock was dented and smooth which made it extra comfortable to sit on. A
little while later, you heard rustling on the sand behind you. Instinctively, you slowly slide your hands
down your sides and reach your knife, taking it out of its holder which was attached to your belt for
convenience for such times like this. You quickly jump off the rock and spin yourself to face...
Bellamy? I thought you were a grounder, asshole. You place your hand on your chest in an attempt to
slow your fast heartbeat, putting your knife back in its holder with the other. I should ve said

whisper feeling more hurt by your comment than he expected. You raise your eyebrows at him for him

The Traditional Global Environment Evolved Into The Modern...
Question 1: Starting in 1900, the traditional global environment evolved into the modern global
system. As international relations scholars have attempted to examine and explain this change, six
worldviews have emerged. These are Realism, Liberalism, Idealism, Neo Marxism, Constructivism,
and Feminism. In an essay format answer, you are to discuss the main characteristics of each
worldview. One of the peculiarities of research of international relations is the variety of conceptual
constructions and competing theoretical approaches. This leads to the fact that an important
epistemological issue of research on international relations is the problem of classification and

The motive of international relations is the struggle of states to expand its influence in the external
environment (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 7). According to liberalism, complex interdependence between
states plays a huge role for each state. Liberalism considers all international organizations to be
extremely important. Economics became more important than military power (Kaarbo and Lee Ray,9).
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was the representatives of idealism. The basis of the idealism is a set of
abstract ethical and legal ideals, norms, and criteria (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 12). The Key
representatives of neo Marxism were Immanuel Wallerstein, Andre Frank, Robert Cox. The world was

world economy is determined by the division of all countries based on economic indicators in two
parts: center and periphery (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 15). Constructivists believed that the focus of the

issue of security. States may have long term common interests and influence the international system.

Cerebral Circulation Of The Body
Cerebral circulation
Cerebral circulation is the movement of blood through the blood vessels to supply the brain. As brain
is the most complicated structure of our body,it needs lots of energy, and then it needs lots of blood
supply.Almost 20 percent blood of the body is used by the brain. And the rate of the cerebral blood
flow is 750ml per minute for an adult, representing 15 percent of the cardiac output. The arteries deliver
oxygenated blood, glucose, and some other nutrients to the brain to make it function properly.
Blood supply to the brain
The cerebral circulation includes two systems:the anterior cerebral circulation system and the
posterior cerebral circulation system. The anterior circulation system supplies blood primarily to the
middle and front portion of the brain and consists of the left and right carotid arteries. The anterior
blood supply system originated from the carotid arteries. The carotid artery is from the heart and goes
up to the head through the neck. The carotid artery bifurcates into internal carotid artery and external
carotid artery, and the internal carotid artery will go inside the skull to supply blood to the brain
hemisphere, the external carotid artery goes outside of the skull to supply blood to the face.In the
anterior system, there are another two important arteries the anterior cerebral artery and the middle
cerebral artery. The anterior cerebral artery originate from the internal carotid artery, stays in the

Why Is It Better To Stand Alone
It is better to stand alone for what is right than to be part of a crowd that is wrong. In our society today
teenagers are constantly faced with peer pressure. Wether out with friends or in a classroom, people
constantly try to influence our decisions. Some may influence our lives for the better but some may
not. An example of negative peer pressure present in todays world is teenage drinking. This example
easily shows how it is better to stand alone for what one believes is right (not drinking) rather than
giving in to peer pressure to fit in with the crowd. It can be hard to say no to your friends because of
our natural human desire to fit in and feel included in something. When we do stand alone for what is
right we show courage and independence.

Advocates for medicinal marijuana argue that clinical tests have established that marijuana has
definite and valid therapeutic values. It is the Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in marijuana that is the
active chemical component for the relief o pain and symptoms. Marijuana suppresses AIDS related
nausea and nausea in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy, along with appetite loss and abnormal
pressure in the eye which leads to glaucoma, the #1 cause of blindness. Marijuana is also believed to
be a safe and inexpensive alternative in treating muscle spasms, epilepsy, anorexia, asthma, insomnia,
depression and other disorders. Marijuana is not only believed to help with physical ailments, but
psychological ones as well. A former chairman of the 1991 established Office of Alternative Medicine

The Basics Behind Qualitative Research
Fundamentals of Qualitative Research

Dr. Curtis Maybee
University of Phoenix
Fundamentals of Qualitative Research When a researcher sets out to begin a study, he or she must
begin by asking questions of him or herself. These questions lead to the determination of the type of
research study the researcher is going to conduct. The study may be based on qualitative research,
quantitative research, or both. But, in order to determine the study method and design choice, the
researcher needs to see what is fueling his or her research question. Research questions based on
quantitative research focuses on obtaining data that can be measured, usually in some form or
numerical/statistical manner (Leedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Leedy amp; Ormrod, 2010, there are three major sources of data for qualitative studies
interviews, observations, and documents (p. 23). If is up to the researcher to determine what process
of research is best for the study he or she is conducting. There are times when only one method is
used, but then there are times when more than one method is used. However, the researcher may
identify his or her primary method (Rubin, 2007). It is also possible to utilize the internet and
worldwide web to collect information for the study also. After the data is collected, the researcher
must be able to analyze the data. The truth is the data analysis is usually simultaneous with the data
collection stage (Rubin, 2007). From the time the first interview takes place or observation begins, the
researcher should already be analyzing what he or she has learned. By doing so, the researcher can
eliminate the possibility of being overwhelmed with information at the conclusion of the data
collection process. While analyzing, the information collected, the researcher can break up what he or
she learns into categories (Leedy amp; Ormrod, 2010). The use of these categories will help identify
any patterns of behavior or occurrence that may exist.

Benefits Of The GI Bill
GI Bill: The Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944
In World War I, the servicemen had postponed benefits that were promised to them. This caused
political turmoil and the response was the Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944, which is also known
as the GI Bill. This bill provided a range of benefits for the returning World War II veterans. The GI
Bill made a step in the right direction to ensure rightful benefits to the veterans, but did have faults.
The American Legion played an important role in the enactment of the bill. The GI Bill did not
advocate discrimination, but had been interpreted differently for African Americans. The bill also did
not include Merchant Marines, which were carriers and ships that delivered war supplies to the
soldiers. Over the years, adjustments to the GI Bill were made.
The Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944 was enacted after the soldiers of World War I had come
back from the war and had troubles making ends meet. The soldiers had help from government
benefits, but the benefits were not enough to help soldiers transitioning back to the work force.
Congress had stepped in and made the Act of 1924. This Act promised a bonus that was based on the
number of days that were served in the military. However, this bonus was not put into action until 20
years later, which was too late for struggling soldiers. A group of veterans called the Bonus Marchers
was composed up of 17,000 United States World War I veterans, veterans families, and other groups
that were affiliated with them. The Bonus Marchers marched to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and
demanded the bonus that they were promised. The government did not convey and ended up sending
out U.S. troops against the WWI veterans under President Hoover s demands. This movement, putting
veterans against soldiers, was a turning point in veterans rights.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt was determined to right the wrong that was done to the veterans. On
June 22, 1944, the GI Bill was signed into law. February 17, 1944 marks the date that the American
Legion began their daily meetings on how to get the GI Bill of Rights passed. Other veteran affiliated

United States of America and Papua New Guinea are the only two countries worldwide that do not
have paid maternity leave. The United States effort to pass paid maternity leave goes back to the
1920s. In the years since, most other countries have guaranteed a salary for mothers taking time off,
and some even cover father s paternity leaves. Through countries with paid leave, we have learned the
many ways paid leave helps babies, parents, and entire families (Rubin 1). So why has the United
States not yet created a paid leave mandate? In 1993, President Bill Clinton signed into law the Family
and Medical Leave Act. This act mandates a minimum of twelve weeks of unpaid leave for qualifying
reasons, including the birth of a child (White House 4). When I was born, my mother was given the
opportunity, through her work, to apply for disability insurance. The insurance, paid for by her
employer, covered pay for approximately 70% of her salary for six weeks of leave. There was no pay
given for the other six weeks provided for by the Family and Medical Leave Act. My mother s
employer gave her many health benefits and the flexibility she needed when she had her children. The
business community is not opposed to paid leave, as it is recorded that over fifty percent of working
U.S. citizen have paid leave and paid vacation, according to the Labor Department. The National

My Moment In My Life
I looked up and saw a smiling baby with blue eyes, so sweet and innocent. Who knew life would
throw these obstacles at us? Only a few days old and her future was in jeopardy. The young child had
already pushed through life changing surgeries. Personal experiences effect everybody, some happy
while others are not as joyful. Sometimes all you can do is hope that there is a chance things can go
your way. But the hardest part is staying strong for those you love. Within the span of her life a sweet
little angel was in and out of Tampa Regional Medical Hospital, came home for a whole month until
the day that changed everything. Airlifted back to the Hospital for a ruptured incision; which she had
gotten from a surgery when she was just an infant. Slowly it became clear that this little blue eyed girl
would never catch a break. The baby s mother, who is my brother s best friend s girlfriend, posted on
Facebook, a Social Media site, every couple of minutes updating her loved ones about information on
her precious baby. As the minutes proceeded to crawl by slower and slower I started to become
worried. When I finally arrived at the hospital, I received the message I was dreading, they had moved
into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Trying to hold myself together I ambled through the hospital halls,
leading my mother toward the ICU; we entered the room to see a crowd of familiar faces gathered by
a hospital bed. Stopping before the bed, I took a deep breath and without actually

Kathryn Howard Research Paper
Kathryn Howard was the daughter of Lord Edmund Howard, a younger brother of Thomas Howard,
Duke of Norfolk. She was also first cousin to Anne Boleyn. Kathryn came to court at about the age of
19 as a lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves and there was no doubt that the spirited young girl caught
Henry s attention. Sixteen days after he was free of Anne, Henry took his fifth wife, Kathryn Howard,
on July 28, 1540. Henry was 49 and his bride was no older than 19. King Henry lavished gifts on
Kathryn and called her his rose without thorn and the very jewel of womanhood . Less than a year into
Kathryn marriage the rumors of her infidelity began. In a way, one couldn t blame her for seeking the
company of handsome young men closer to her age. But for that to happen even only in courtly
flirtations, was dangerous for a Queen, especially one who came from a powerful family with a lot of
enemies. By November 1541, there was enough evidence against the Queen that Archbishop Cranmer
informed the King of Kathryn s misconduct. At first Henry did not believe the accusations, but he
agreed to allow further investigations into the matter. There was enough evidence and ... Show more

accept. Katherine and Henry VIII were married on July 12th in the Queen s closet at Hampton Court
Palace in a small ceremony attended by about 20 people. Katherine was interested in the reformed
faith, making her enemies with the conservatives of Henry s court. It was Katherine s influence with
the King and the Henry s failing health that led to a plot against her in 1546 by the conservative

Disadvantages Of Wealth In Beowulf
Blights and Benefits of Beowulf s Booty
In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, it discusses the advantages and
disadvantages of wealth that are shown in today s modern society.
In Beowulf, the epic depicts many scenes of how wealth in today s modern society shows someone s
power. One way this is shown by the kings in the story. This is shown by King Hrothgar when he talks
about how he handled his enemies, saying, Finally I healed the feud by paying / I shipped a treasure
trove to the Wulfings (Heaney 470 471). King Hrothgar pays his enemies with precious gold from his
treasure hold and he ends up settling the feud. It is displaying how being wealthy can make a person
so powerful that they can pay their enemies to stop attacking them. Another way that wealth can show
power in Beowulf is when the kings are being described. One excerpt that shows this is when King
Hrothgar is introduced to Beowulf, saying, Then the grey haired treasure giver was glad (607). The
author specifically describes the most powerful men in the land as treasure givers. This not only shows
the Anglo Saxon cultural beliefs, but as well as reflection on current society. The wealthiest man in the
world, currently, is Bill Gates with a net worth of 85.6 billion dollars (Kim). He is not only very
wealthy, but very influential in today s world, especially in the technology business. Finally, Beowulf
is king and wishes to look upon some of the treasure he has won to see how much power

Essay about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart baptized as Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart lived
from January 27, 1756 to December 5, 1791. Mozart was a very influential and prolific composer of
more than 600 works, including symphonies, concertante, chamber, piano, opera, and choral music.
Regarded as a child prodigy, Mozart composed and performed in the European courts from the age of
five, and was engaged at the Salzburg court at 17. Mozart s musical style can be classified as
Classical, although he learned from many of his contemporaries throughout his musical career. In

While at the Salzburg court, Mozart composed his only violin concertos, as well as his first piano
concertos. However, Mozart grew discontent with his work at court when his desire to work on operas
was not encouraged. Mozart began looking for alternative employment in 1777 with a journey to Paris
with his mother. While on his tour of Paris, he had financial difficulty, and fell to pawning valuables.
While he was gone, his father worked to secure a better position for Mozart in the Salzburg court, and
after the death of his mother, Mozart returned to Salzburg. However, his discontent was little
diminished, and he left for Vienna in 1781. There, he worked as a freelance composer and performer,
and established himself as one of the best keyboard players in Vienna. This period of Mozart s life saw
his marriage to Constanze Weber, as well as moderately great success with his opera Die Entführung
aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio). Over the next few years, Mozart mounted a
number of concerts featuring himself as a piano soloist which pushed him to great success and high
accolades from his audience. Mozart also began to realize moderate financial success, which led him
to adopt a more opulent lifestyle. Incidentally, this increase in lifestyle would lead to financial
difficulties later. Around 1786, Mozart began collaborating with Lorenzo Da Ponte on two very
successful operas, The Marriage of Figaro, and Don Giovanni. Soon after, Mozart secured a

Compare And Contrast Scrooge And Dantes Inferno
A Christmas Carol didn t seem to be a play that had relative components to that of Dante s Inferno
until it is picked apart and examined. They both have very distinct similarities as well as differences.
Although both have diverse layouts, the deeper you look into its intellectual properties you can find
surprising similarities. A confusion may overcome you as you look at this and think how could you
possibly compare Inferno to A Christmas Carol? They were not easy to find, but if you look deep
enough into something you can certainly surprise yourself. In each story, there are three parts to Dante

Scrooge s life is vaguely going downhill in the story by his rudeness towards others and his need for
monetary gain. He realizes he is in a crisis to change his way of life, and if he does not he will be sent
to Hell. Whereas in Inferno, Dante s crisis is getting to heaven, but if he does not change his way of
life he will stay in Hell as he travels through it. He had a guide just as Scrooge did to help see how
their sins could end them in Hell. Each story shows how Scrooge and Dante had strayed away from
the simple, beaten path to Heaven. They both take the indirect path by being shown the sins not to
inherit. As Dante journeyed through Hell, he stopped in each level and acknowledged each of the
sinners stories. He learns that certain sins determined their level of hell and punishment. Dante learns
not to acquire these sins. Whereas in A Christmas Carol, Dickens solely focuses on just Scrooge s sins,
but he is shown by the ghosts how he became the man he was.
Lastly, Scrooge s friend, Jacob Marley had sent to him the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and
Future to help guide him through his expedition of his own life. Marley was Scrooge s only friend
during his younger years and all the way up to the end of Marley s life. Similar to Dante s lover,
Beatrice who had sent Virgil to help mentor Dante through Hell. These are alike due to the important
role of Marley in Scrooge s life and, the importance

The Arctic
The first region of the country described in class was that of the Arctic. The Arctic tribes cover the
western part of Alaska, northern part of Canada, and southern part of Greenland. People within this
region are known as Inuits and their culture is very rich. The Arctic is a very cold area with little to no
vegetation, and the Inuit culture and music reflects this. Just like the other regions that have been and
will be described, the Native Americans of the Arctic have their own unique sound, song structure, and
instrumentation. The first thing we will look at is instrumentation. For the Arctic region, the single
most important instrument is what is known as a hand drum. This membranophone is unique in its
structure and sound. To make one of these, a round frame is made out of wood and then the skin of
some local animal such as caribou or white whale in is stretched over the top of it. This skin is a
unique feature and helps separate this region from the rest due to the fact you cannot find this type of
wildlife elsewhere. A handle is attached for drummer to hold onto and made to fit ... Show more

Instead of striking the membrane actually bound, the frame itself is struck. This gives each Arctic song
a unique sound and can be heard in CD 1 track 9. The mallet actually being used to strike the
membrane can further alter the sound. A good example of the altered sound is in CD 1 track 8 where
the performer is using a metal bar to strike the drum rim giving of a very metallic sound. This song is
also an example of a duel song. There are many other drum dances songs in this region like the song I
m So Happy and Sayunn. Both tracks, which are CD 1 tracks 9 and 10, represent how different drum
dance songs can be when it comes to vocals, drumbeat, and the amount of performers. With each of
these songs it is easy to see why the hand drum is so important and a defining characteristic of this

The Themes Of Betrayal And Redemption In The Kite Runner
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a historical fiction novel set mostly in Kabul, Afghanistan and
Fremont, California. The novel spans the time periods before, during, and after the reign of the
Russians (1979 1989) and the Taliban s takeover (1996) of Afghanistan. It is told through the first
person perspective of Amir alongside his father, Baba, his half brother, Hassan, and Baba s
companions Ali and Rahim Khan. Growing up, Amir and Hassan are practically inseparable, as they
are always playing games, reading poetry, or simply spending time together. Hassan s mother,

Hassan allows Assef to rape him because Assef threatens to take away the last kite that Amir has cut to
win the competition. Since he seeks Baba s approval, he wants to present it to him to establish a
better* relationship with him. Therefore, he views Hassan s rape as a sacrifice for his desires. Directly
before the incident, Amir [catches] a glimpse of Hassan s face, and describes his face as holding
resignation in it (76). He then goes on to compare his expression to the look of a lamb (76). In this
quote, Amir is referring to the sheep that he witnesses the mullah kill on a Muslim holiday, the tenth
day of Dhul Hijjah, which he and his family celebrate every year. Amir believes that the lamb sees
itself as a sacrifice, and accepts its unwanted fate, which is how he believes that Hassan feels too.
Though Amir later feels immense guilt for his actions*, he is able to disregard* his regrets when he
and Baba move to America to escape the Russian takeover. Amir compares America to a river, roaring
along , and views it as being unmindful of the past (136). He describes forgetting his mistakes in
America as entering the river, [letting] [his] sins drown to the bottom , and allowing, the waters to

Reflection About Poverty
People who live in developing countries have a different lifestyle compared to the developed
countries. I was born in Tanzania, which is a country in eastern Africa. Africa is considered the worst
place of poverty and hunger and it is the home to the poorest people. Being raised in a place of
poverty was uneasy for my family, and nor me. Where I lived was not anything fancy, I actually lived
in a refugee camp. My parent, who were born in Burundi fled to Tanzania during the Burundi the civil
war. My family were farmers. They had no equipment only hand and my dad owned a store. In my
culture women did most of the farming and would sell their crops in the cities.
I spent 5 years in Tanzania. I might not remember all those 5 years there but I know for sure my parent
worked really hard to raise me the right way. Listening to my parents tell stories about how difficult it
was to live in a place with poverty is heartbreaking. As a little kid, I never imaged my parent would go
hunger just to feed their kids. I have family that still live in Tanzania. My two sisters who live there
with their family call once in a while because they have no access to cellphones. When they call the
talk about how they are hungry or someone is sick. People in poverty are likely to suffer diseases
because of lack of treatment. I have lost many family members due to sickness. What sucks are the
fact that sometime there s nothing do because of the lack of medicine. 800 women die every day
because of something that has to do with pregnancy. Each hour 35 mothers die while giving birth
After giving birth, mother and children in developing countries don t receive good care. In the United
States nurses and doctors are there when patient need them.
Living in America for 9 years has made me have a different point of view of the outside world. As a
kid I never experience hunger and now I know that almost 223 million people go through hunger.
Americans don t have many farming family unlike the developing countries. If we do, it s like a big
company. In the developing countries families that are farmers are the ones that suffer hunger. I m not

about how she changed jobs for less stress and more money. It gave her self confidence and now she is
able to speak in front of a large group of people, whereas before she was not able to do. Women are
now able to own and afford their own things and are becoming more independent. In the movie, one
woman who works for Business Processing Outsourcing tells us about how her father before really
didn t respect her and was angry that he has a daughter. She tells about how she s learning English so
that she can move up in her job, and how she is able to help support her family. She is paying for
many things for her family, and now her father loves her and wants her to stay home and help support
the family. This is very much different from America because most families want their children to go

The Trans Pacific Partnership ( Tpp )
Introduction Passed in October 2015, the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is the largest free trade
agreement (FTA) to date, comprising nearly 40% of the world s economy. Countries including the
United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Mexico, among others share a common
economic characteristic of a gross domestic production exceeding 1 trillion dollars annually. Other
developing pacific countries included within the TPP include Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Vietnam,
Singapore, Chile, Brunei, and New Zealand. After a decade of negotiation, this economic policy is
exceptionally influential in developing countries among the global economy. International relations
aim to lower trade barriers for partners of the TPP, making it easier and more profitable for imports
and exports to exchange between countries. Lower trade barriers, mainly reduced taxes and tariffs, are
expected to promote economic growth, support the creation and retention of jobs, enhance innovation,
productivity and competitiveness, raise living standards, reduce poverty, and enhance labor and
environmental protections (Vincent 2014). This review thoroughly examines current environmental
policy, and outlays implications for policy specific regulations included within the TPP to enhance the
environmental conservation of habitat for marine mammals. A well known premise is that past
behavior is the best indicator of future behavior. Thus, by examining the environmental policy of past
trade agreements, and

Patriot Air Missile Essay
In October of 1964, the Secretary of Defense started a program for Surface to Air Missile,
Development (SAM D). In May of 1976, the Secretary of Defense renamed SAM D to Patriot Air
Defense Missile System and tested joint engagement operations with HAWK in 1977. In May of 1982,
the first Patriot unit started under 32d Army Air Defense Command. During a tactical exercise at
White Sands Missile Range in September of 1986, the Patriot successfully deflected a LANCE
missile, which was simulating the SS 21 tactical ballistic missile (TBM) threat. During the exercise,
Patriot, for the first time, had defended a protected asset against a TBM. In August 1990, Iraq invaded
Kuwait and problems began to rise in the Middle East. The nation would ... Show more content on

The weapons system did not have an internal data recorder and commanders were cautious of using
external recording devices due to the possibility of a system crash while in use (Carlone, 1992, p. 6).
Postol (1991) official teams of Israeli scientists using their own equipment from Israel s missile test
ranges with providing the United States with its only source of detailed technical data on Patriot s
performance (p. 137 138). Even with the lack of technical data, damage analysis and eye witness
reports in Israel began to paint a troubling picture of Patriot s ability to defeat tactical ballistic
missiles. Successful Patriot engagements may have simply diverted or broken up the incoming
missile. While the missile did not impact the planned target, debris from the engagement caused
widespread damage on the ground. Some reports of Patriot interceptors chasing TBMs to the ground
also surfaced. The missile used by Iraq, the SCUD B variant Al Husayn, had a tendency for breaking
apart upon reentry into the atmosphere. When this happened after Patriot forces had fired interceptors,
the missiles in flight were suddenly confronted by two or more targets instead of one, and there was
not enough time to launch additional interceptors (Postol, 1991, p. 130). The most well known failure
of Patriot during this war happened due to a timing error within the software produced by continuous
operation of the system. The error continued to get worst, the longer the system was running. At this
location, the system had been running continuously for 100 hours. This error caused the Patriot battery
to fail to track an incoming TBM. The missile impacted an Army barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia,
killing 28 American Soldiers and wounding dozens. An Israeli Patriot unit had identified the timing
error and a software modification was circulating the region. The

Small Retail Did the Companies Understand the Concept of Due Diligence? Before I can accurately
outline whether or not the companies I interviewed understood the concept of due diligence, it was
important that I understood the concept myself. The Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
website defines due diligence as the level of judgement, care, prudence, determination, and activity
that a person would reasonably be expected to do under particular circumstances. Simply put it is the
requirement that all employers take the possible reasonable precautions to avoid injuries and illnesses
in the workplace. There are several ways that an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first organization that I had interviewed was a large manufacturing company (Company 1). The
company is proud of the strong commitment that they have to promoting health and safety in the
workplace, and the prevention of injury and illness. In the company the Human Resources and
management are responsible for establishing and maintaining health and safety programs, and
supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the employees are complying with the safe work
procedures that have been put in place. Multiple times a year the company revises and updates the
Occupational Health and Safety program. Records are also kept on each employee when they not only
receive training, but when they violate a safety procedure. In these cases the necessary disciplinary
action is taken. The other large company (Company 2) that I interviewed proved to be very similar in
their commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees, even though they are
in a different sector in this case retail. Though vastly different in the types of services provided, they
shared a common promise on ensuring due diligence. As it is a relatively large retail outlet, they have
a Health and Safety Committee including one manager, and 5 workers. The health and safety
committee take monthly walks through the store to ensure that should anything be unsafe, it can be
addressed. Additionally, each morning

pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. at St. Joseph s Hospital. Not too long after the murder, a package was
dropped off near the door of Canipe s Amusement Co. close by the scene, and a white Mustang sped
away. The Memphis police officers found the pack to contain a .30 06 rifle, ammunition, a pair of
binoculars, and other items. In 1968, the national holiday Martin Luther King Jr. Day was designated
to honor this exceptional man and his efforts in the civil right movements. It is observed on the third
Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King s birthday, January 15. It was

  • 2. Free-Will And Determinism Free Will and Determinism is it an Illusion? Determinism, libertarianism and compatibilism are three significantly different views on where unaccountability might stop and where free will and moral responsibility begin. Determinism is the strict opinion that every action and decision is the cause of an event, genetics or the environment prior to that action. Quite the opposite is libertarianism, which happens to be the genuine belief in free will as well as the denial of universal causation. Finally, deep self compatibilism meshes both of these stand points together and introduces the idea that one s action can be free if it stems purely out of personal, authentic desire. Since all three judgments have a backbone of convincing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, Silenus would agree that if something is caused it can never be free. Silenus is very high on himself as he rarely ever takes Hench s threats seriously because he is intelligent enough to understand that Hench feels responsible for anything that he does. This is partially because Silenus is constantly reminding him that he isn t responsible for how his mind works and thus can never be held accountable for any action that may blossem from his desires. Third, since Silenus concludes that he is not responsible for what he is, free will and moral responsibility must cease to exist in his case. Don t be silly Hench. Only human beings are responsible. I am what I am, (Satyr, 218). The Satyr considers himself to be above human responsibility based on both his pre determined genetic information, and also his environment when he s reduced to cleaning his creator s lab. To add, all human acquaintances Silenus has had the displeasure of meeting label him as an untrustworthy beast. By soaking up human behavior like a sponge, Silenus discovers that people can be extremely selfish, so he decides it is ok to mock this behavior in a very direct manner. Therefore, Silenus the Satyr and his determinist view that there are reasons behind every action have even Hench convinced that he is in fact liable for all negative outcomes that Silenus may initiate. Rockefeller Center Research Paper Following a decade of a booming economy during the Roaring Twenties, New York suffered a period of economic collapse, which began with the Wall Street Crash on Black Tuesday in 1929, and continued with the Great Depression. The 1930s was a decade that was mostly consumed with financial depression that left most of New York City in shambles. Many Americans did not see the Depression coming, which resulted in mass panic that had a substantial effect on culture at the time. Its distinctive architecture, outstanding tenants, and numerous amounts of facilities and services separate it from other buildings created during that period. The Rockefeller Center reminds developers and designers that the design of individual buildings did not need to be exquisite to be functional and an improvement to the city. The Rockefeller Center was an innovator in providing a place complete with service facilities and shops for its tenants and visitors. It was designed with users in mind to attract people 24 hours a day for business, shopping, sightseeing, and for dining, theater or just plain promenading on its tree shaded esplanades and flower filled plazas. The users of the Center could be credited for the success of the Center, as they are vital for the practicality of what was envisioned the Center would be used for. • 4. A Brief Note On Urban And Rural Terms Urban and Rural Terms Guatemala is a country that has had rapid growth economically in the world. Guatemala is becoming the most popular country in the sector of industry and tourism of Central American, its population has continued to increase. The growth of the population invariably leads to urbanization, which refers to the development of urban areas and the migration of people from rural to urban centers. On the other hand, this has the reciprocal effect of the expansion of these centers much more towards the outside, until they begin to invade the rural areas. (Country Review: Guatemala. 2003) Guatemala has rural areas with a low population density and small settings. Guatemala has an enormous potential for increasing its agricultural production that would lead to rural economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. Guatemala is acknowledged as a leader in nontraditional agriculture that exports in Central America; such as, green beans, snow peas, black beans, vegetables, and fruits, which have grown exponentially over the past ten years helping and also benefitting smallholder farmers. • 8. Self Awareness And Self-Knowledge In Relationships Self awareness and self knowledge in relationships What self knowledge? It can not be bought at the price of effort or practice. Self knowledge happens by observing yourself in your relationship with your classmates, your teachers and all those around you; it happens when you observe the ways of the other, his gestures, his way of dressing, talking, contempt or flattery, and your reaction; it happens when you observe everything that is happening in you and around you and you see as clearly as you see your face in the mirror. When you look in the mirror, you see yourself as you are, is not it? You may wish to have another head having another form, with a little more hair, a less ugly face, but the facts are there, clearly reflected by the mirror, and you can not sweep them and say, That I am beautiful! If you can look in the mirror of relationship exactly as you do in an ordinary mirror, then self knowledge is endless. It s like walking into an unfathomable ocean without shores. Now we want mostly to an end, we want to be able to say, I have come to the knowledge of me and I m happy. But things are not happening as well. If you can look without condemning what you see without comparing yourself to others, without wishing to be more beautiful or more virtuous, if you can just watch what you are and continue on your way, you will discover that it is possible to go infinitely far. An example of negative peer pressure present in todays world is teenage drinking. This example easily shows how it is better to stand alone for what one believes is right (not drinking) rather than giving in to peer pressure to fit in with the crowd. Jeter Cameron Submitted to Dr. Curtis Maybee University of Phoenix Fundamentals of Qualitative Research When a researcher sets out to begin a study, he or she must begin by asking questions of him or herself. These questions lead to the determination of the type of research study the researcher is going to conduct. The study may be based on qualitative research, quantitative research, or both. But, in order to determine the study method and design choice, the researcher needs to see what is fueling his or her research question. Research questions based on quantitative research focuses on obtaining data that can be measured, usually in some form or numerical/statistical manner (Leedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Leedy amp; Ormrod, 2010, there are three major sources of data for qualitative studies interviews, observations, and documents (p. 23). If is up to the researcher to determine what process of research is best for the study he or she is conducting. There are times when only one method is used, but then there are times when more than one method is used. However, the researcher may identify his or her primary method (Rubin, 2007). It is also possible to utilize the internet and worldwide web to collect information for the study also. After the data is collected, the researcher must be able to analyze the data. The truth is the data analysis is usually simultaneous with the data collection stage (Rubin, 2007). From the time the first interview takes place or observation begins, the researcher should already be analyzing what he or she has learned. By doing so, the researcher can eliminate the possibility of being overwhelmed with information at the conclusion of the data collection process. While analyzing, the information collected, the researcher can break up what he or she learns into categories (Leedy amp; Ormrod, 2010). The use of these categories will help identify any patterns of behavior or occurrence that may exist. References Jenkins, L. (2009). • 22. Benefits Of The GI Bill GI Bill: The Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944 In World War I, the servicemen had postponed benefits that were promised to them. This caused political turmoil and the response was the Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944, which is also known as the GI Bill. This bill provided a range of benefits for the returning World War II veterans. The GI Bill made a step in the right direction to ensure rightful benefits to the veterans, but did have faults. The American Legion played an important role in the enactment of the bill. The GI Bill did not advocate discrimination, but had been interpreted differently for African Americans. The bill also did not include Merchant Marines, which were carriers and ships that delivered war supplies to the soldiers. Over the years, adjustments to the GI Bill were made. The Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944 was enacted after the soldiers of World War I had come back from the war and had troubles making ends meet. The soldiers had help from government benefits, but the benefits were not enough to help soldiers transitioning back to the work force. Congress had stepped in and made the Act of 1924. This Act promised a bonus that was based on the number of days that were served in the military. However, this bonus was not put into action until 20 years later, which was too late for struggling soldiers. A group of veterans called the Bonus Marchers was composed up of 17,000 United States World War I veterans, veterans families, and other groups that were affiliated with them. The Bonus Marchers marched to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and demanded the bonus that they were promised. The government did not convey and ended up sending out U.S. troops against the WWI veterans under President Hoover s demands. This movement, putting veterans against soldiers, was a turning point in veterans rights. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was determined to right the wrong that was done to the veterans. On June 22, 1944, the GI Bill was signed into law. February 17, 1944 marks the date that the American Legion began their daily meetings on how to get the GI Bill of Rights passed. • 23. Benefits Of Paid Maternity Leave Essay Benefits of Paid Maternity Leave Two unlikely countries have one unlikely thing in common. The United States of America and Papua New Guinea are the only two countries worldwide that do not have paid maternity leave. The United States effort to pass paid maternity leave goes back to the 1920s. In the years since, most other countries have guaranteed a salary for mothers taking time off, and some even cover father s paternity leaves. Through countries with paid leave, we have learned the many ways paid leave helps babies, parents, and entire families (Rubin 1). So why has the United States not yet created a paid leave mandate? In 1993, President Bill Clinton signed into law the Family and Medical Leave Act. This act mandates a minimum of twelve weeks of unpaid leave for qualifying reasons, including the birth of a child (White House 4). When I was born, my mother was given the opportunity, through her work, to apply for disability insurance. The insurance, paid for by her employer, covered pay for approximately 70% of her salary for six weeks of leave. There was no pay given for the other six weeks provided for by the Family and Medical Leave Act. My mother s employer gave her many health benefits and the flexibility she needed when she had her children. The business community is not opposed to paid leave, as it is recorded that over fifty percent of working U.S. citizen have paid leave and paid vacation, according to the Labor Department. Kathryn came to court at about the age of 19 as a lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves and there was no doubt that the spirited young girl caught Henry s attention. Sixteen days after he was free of Anne, Henry took his fifth wife, Kathryn Howard, on July 28, 1540. Henry was 49 and his bride was no older than 19. King Henry lavished gifts on Kathryn and called her his rose without thorn and the very jewel of womanhood . Less than a year into Kathryn marriage the rumors of her infidelity began. In a way, one couldn t blame her for seeking the company of handsome young men closer to her age. But for that to happen even only in courtly flirtations, was dangerous for a Queen, especially one who came from a powerful family with a lot of enemies. • 28. Disadvantages Of Wealth In Beowulf Blights and Benefits of Beowulf s Booty In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of wealth that are shown in today s modern society. In Beowulf, the epic depicts many scenes of how wealth in today s modern society shows someone s power. One way this is shown by the kings in the story. This is shown by King Hrothgar when he talks about how he handled his enemies, saying, Finally I healed the feud by paying / I shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings (Heaney 470 471). King Hrothgar pays his enemies with precious gold from his treasure hold and he ends up settling the feud. It is displaying how being wealthy can make a person so powerful that they can pay their enemies to stop attacking them. Another way that wealth can show power in Beowulf is when the kings are being described. One excerpt that shows this is when King Hrothgar is introduced to Beowulf, saying, Then the grey haired treasure giver was glad (607). The author specifically describes the most powerful men in the land as treasure givers. This not only shows the Anglo Saxon cultural beliefs, but as well as reflection on current society. The wealthiest man in the world, currently, is Bill Gates with a net worth of 85.6 billion dollars (Kim). Africa is considered the worst place of poverty and hunger and it is the home to the poorest people. Being raised in a place of poverty was uneasy for my family, and nor me. Where I lived was not anything fancy, I actually lived in a refugee camp. My parent, who were born in Burundi fled to Tanzania during the Burundi the civil war. My family were farmers. They had no equipment only hand and my dad owned a store. In my culture women did most of the farming and would sell their crops in the cities. I spent 5 years in Tanzania. I might not remember all those 5 years there but I know for sure my parent worked really hard to raise me the right way. Listening to my parents tell stories about how difficult it was to live in a place with poverty is heartbreaking. As a little kid, I never imaged my parent would go hunger just to feed their kids. I have family that still live in Tanzania. My two sisters who live there with their family call once in a while because they have no access to cellphones. When they call the talk about how they are hungry or someone is sick. People in poverty are likely to suffer diseases because of lack of treatment. I have lost many family members due to sickness. What sucks are the fact that sometime there s nothing do because of the lack of medicine. 800 women die every day because of something that has to do with pregnancy. Each hour 35 mothers die while giving birth After giving birth, mother and children in developing countries don t receive good care. In the United States nurses and doctors are there when patient need them. Living in America for 9 years has made me have a different point of view of the outside world. As a kid I never experience hunger and now I know that almost 223 million people go through hunger. Americans don t have many farming family unlike the developing countries. If we do, it s like a big company. In the developing countries families that are farmers are the ones that suffer hunger. I m not talking about not eat breakfast or dinner one day. I m saying not able to eat in 24 to 48 hours, because you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Trans Pacific Partnership ( Tpp ) Introduction Passed in October 2015, the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is the largest free trade agreement (FTA) to date, comprising nearly 40% of the world s economy. Countries including the United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Mexico, among others share a common economic characteristic of a gross domestic production exceeding 1 trillion dollars annually. Other developing pacific countries included within the TPP include Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Vietnam, Singapore, Chile, Brunei, and New Zealand. After a decade of negotiation, this economic policy is exceptionally influential in developing countries among the global economy. International relations aim to lower trade barriers for partners of the TPP, making it easier and more profitable for imports and exports to exchange between countries. Lower trade barriers, mainly reduced taxes and tariffs, are expected to promote economic growth, support the creation and retention of jobs, enhance innovation, productivity and competitiveness, raise living standards, reduce poverty, and enhance labor and environmental protections (Vincent 2014). This review thoroughly examines current environmental policy, and outlays implications for policy specific regulations included within the TPP to enhance the environmental conservation of habitat for marine mammals. A well known premise is that past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior. Thus, by examining the environmental policy of past trade agreements, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In May of 1976, the Secretary of Defense renamed SAM D to Patriot Air Defense Missile System and tested joint engagement operations with HAWK in 1977. In May of 1982, the first Patriot unit started under 32d Army Air Defense Command. During a tactical exercise at White Sands Missile Range in September of 1986, the Patriot successfully deflected a LANCE missile, which was simulating the SS 21 tactical ballistic missile (TBM) threat. During the exercise, Patriot, for the first time, had defended a protected asset against a TBM. In August 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait and problems began to rise in the Middle East. The nation would ... The weapons system did not have an internal data recorder and commanders were cautious of using external recording devices due to the possibility of a system crash while in use (Carlone, 1992, p. 6). Postol (1991) official teams of Israeli scientists using their own equipment from Israel s missile test ranges with providing the United States with its only source of detailed technical data on Patriot s performance (p. 137 138). Even with the lack of technical data, damage analysis and eye witness reports in Israel began to paint a troubling picture of Patriot s ability to defeat tactical ballistic missiles. Successful Patriot engagements may have simply diverted or broken up the incoming missile. While the missile did not impact the planned target, debris from the engagement caused widespread damage on the ground. Some reports of Patriot interceptors chasing TBMs to the ground also surfaced. The missile used by Iraq, the SCUD B variant Al Husayn, had a tendency for breaking apart upon reentry into the atmosphere. When this happened after Patriot forces had fired interceptors, the missiles in flight were suddenly confronted by two or more targets instead of one, and there was not enough time to launch additional interceptors (Postol, 1991, p. 130). The most well known failure of Patriot during this war happened due to a timing error within the software produced by continuous operation of the system. The error continued to get worst, the longer the system was running. At this location, the system had been running continuously for 100 hours. This error caused the Patriot battery to fail to track an incoming TBM. The missile impacted an Army barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 28 American Soldiers and wounding dozens. An Israeli Patriot unit had identified the timing error and a software modification was circulating the region. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Company 1: Large Manufacturing Company 2: Large Retail Company 3: Small Retail Company 4: Small Retail Did the Companies Understand the Concept of Due Diligence? Before I can accurately outline whether or not the companies I interviewed understood the concept of due diligence, it was important that I understood the concept myself. The Occupational Health and Safety Legislation website defines due diligence as the level of judgement, care, prudence, determination, and activity that a person would reasonably be expected to do under particular circumstances. Simply put it is the requirement that all employers take the possible reasonable precautions to avoid injuries and illnesses in the workplace. There are several ways that an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first organization that I had interviewed was a large manufacturing company (Company 1). The company is proud of the strong commitment that they have to promoting health and safety in the workplace, and the prevention of injury and illness. In the company the Human Resources and management are responsible for establishing and maintaining health and safety programs, and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the employees are complying with the safe work procedures that have been put in place. Multiple times a year the company revises and updates the Occupational Health and Safety program. Records are also kept on each employee when they not only receive training, but when they violate a safety procedure. In these cases the necessary disciplinary action is taken. The other large company (Company 2) that I interviewed proved to be very similar in their commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees, even though they are in a different sector in this case retail. Though vastly different in the types of services provided, they shared a common promise on ensuring due diligence. As it is a relatively large retail outlet, they have a Health and Safety Committee including one manager, and 5 workers. The health and safety committee take monthly walks through the store to ensure that should anything be unsafe, it can be addressed. Additionally, each morning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
