A Comparison Of Feminism In The Good Earth
Gloria Steinem, an American journalist once said, A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality
and full humanity of women and men. This quote explains that any person who believes in feminism,
believes in the idea that men and women should be treated equally. Feminism is the emphasis that
women and men should not have divided opportunities. Feminism in literature is when authors use
feminist beliefs in their characters. They use characters in their literature to show how the men and
women are being treated equally, or how they are being treated unequally. Although it is difficult to
see that feminism is showed in The Good Earth, Pearl Buck finds ways to show feminism differently
throughout the female characters. O lan is one of the main characters and shows feminism in the
novel. She was a slave in the House of Hwang before she became the Wife of Wang Lung. O lan
helped Wang Lung achieve wealth, and she also helped their family survive during the famine. It said,
All through the long months of winter she lay dying and upon her bed, and for the first time Wang
Lung and his children knew what she had been in the house, and how she made comfort for them all
and they had not known it (274). It was always expected for O lan to do the jobs around the house for
the rest of the family, and when she died they finally realized how important she was to the household.
This shows feminism because it is a belief that women are only known for performing household
duties. Another

The Traditional Education System Is Vital For The Next...
For many, the traditional education system is viewed as vital for the next phase of life. However for a
select population, it is not effective and an alternative means for obtaining an education is necessary.
Adult education provides people a chance to change their previous views about education and, most
importantly, the opportunity to change their path in life. In 1968, Henry McNeil had just turned
sixteen and thought that he was prepared for the workforce, so he quit high school. After he dropped
out, a job was easily achieved even without a high school diploma because of his hardworking
attitude. The ability to adapt to his job gave him employment until he was fifty eight. However, when
the economy took a downward spiral, the companies that had once overlooked the education of the
applicant in place of a good mentality, now were not able to take the risk. Insurance that the potential
employee was educated weighed in more than the experience gained from prior jobs. Henry McNeil
needed a new path for his life and decided to go back to school to achieve it. Every person does not go
through the same intellectual stages of life at the same time. Every person is different, so diverse
options for education are necessary. Therefore, adult education systems in Caldwell County and the
United States of America deserve as much attention as youth education systems.
The concept of adult education originated nearly a century ago. American society realized another
education system

Discussion of Instructional Problem American college students know research and essay writing is an
inevitable aspect of their educational career. Gathering research based materials and paraphrasing this
information can be daunting for some English speaking students. For college bound English as a
Second Language (ESL) students this task of paraphrasing research sources and avoiding plagiarism
while keeping the information as authentic and accurate as possible can be nearly impossible. Many
ESL college students have yet to learn the techniques to correctly paraphrase the information they
gather. Paraphrasing is an essential skill needed to compose a successful research essay. Restating
research materials using one s own words by using strategies such as rewording, using synonyms and
sentence restructuring are techniques and skills required to paraphrase. These strategies have not been
obtained to the standard that ESL students need to be

The Accounting Integration Platform Permits
The accounting integration platform permits users to integrate and standardize accounting from non
Oracle transactional systems to create accounting entries in any general ledger. If customers have high
volumes of transactions from different industry applications, such as billing systems, the Oracle
Fusion accounting hub will add plus reference information on raw transaction information. Then, it
applies rules to create detailed accounting entries to meet virtually any accounting requirement. Also,
the accounting hub offers maximum flexibility in general accounting entries since it allows users to
configure rules according to any attribute of a transaction. For example, a deferred revenue account
can be broken out by different lines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Paula Hawkins s The Girl On The Train
Thrillers are one of America s favorite genres of movies to watch. If you are a bookworm, a movie
about a book you recently read can be exciting. One major part of any movie that can make or break
the film is the characters casted. The way we see the character while we read it can be completely
different to the character in the movie. There is nothing more devastating than when the movie does
not follow the book either. The Girl on the Train is the perfect example of this inconsistency. Paula
Hawkins famous thriller The Girl on the Train, was made into a movie in two thousand sixteen. This is
one year after it was written. There were some major inconsistencies that I noticed while watching the
movie after reading the book. Besides the obvious differences such as the way the characters looked
and hair color or skin tone, there were big differences.
The Girl on the Train is a story about a woman named Rachel Watson. Rachel rides the train every day
to work. The favorite part of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rachel needs her alcohol to take the edge off. She spirals out of control and craves her drinks all day
long. Rachel is told by her ex husband, Tom Watson, that she is an abusive drunk. Tom always made
Rachel apologize the next day for what she had done. Tom is a compulsive liar and I hated him in the
book and even more in the movie. Rachel and Tom s relationship is bad overall but in the movie, I saw
Rachel s pain so much clearer. It was easy to empathize with Rachel s character throughout the movie.
Megan s character was harder to relate to for me personally. In the book, I felt like I could understand
how she was so broken from her past. In the movie Megan was in tears often and was clearly
depressed. She felt no emotional connections and sought out men to fill that emptiness she was
feeling. I cannot relate to that side of Megan so I did not connect with her in the movie

Ethics Of Designer Babies
Parents are given the option to modify their baby s genes through the technique of designer babies.
However, there are ethical concerns about whether the practice of designer babies will be used for the
intended purpose. Since the parents are the ones deciding their baby s genes, they are able to choose
according to their preferences. Therefore, it gives parents the option to decide their babies appearance
and personality. Thus, it leads to the controversial aspect of gender selection through the technology of
designer baby as the sex of a child at birth can be prearranged by choosing embryos for a specific
sexual trait (Verlinsky, 2005, p. 24). Parents can now easily select the sex of their baby through this
technology. In addition, parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the concept of designer babies is still relatively new; thus, it raise concerns about the safety
of this technique. Also, the process of designer babies has only been experimented on rabbits and rats,
so it has yet to be tested on humans. Therefore, there could be hidden risks and side effects for humans
that have yet to be discovered until after the procedure is completed. The issue of competence emerges
because patients must understand the treatment involved and the potential side effects, as well as the
probability of possible outcomes (Morrison and Furlong, 2014, p. 262). The editing of the genome is
still a mystery as there could be unexplored territories. There could be the possibility of cleaving the
wrong genes and as a result serious side effects may occur when necessary genes are sliced. In
addition, unpredictable consequences may occur in future generations, so prospective problems may
not always appear until the birth of the baby (Pang and Ho, 2016). Thus, it raises the risk of the
emergence of new types of diseases or disabilities if genes are edited. It will be difficult to tell when
problems arise during the process and it may eventually show up only once the irreversible procedure
is completed. Furthermore, the success rate of impregnation is lower than most would like, harvesting
eggs from the woman a procedure not without burdens may have to be done multiple times (Suter,
2007, p. 930). Women will have to undergo the risk of implantation even though it is not guaranteed
that she will become pregnant as a result. The cost of this procedure is quite significant, but there is
still a chance that the process may not work or is ineffective. Therefore, it is not possible to know the
potential risks until it emerges, so it questions the safety of designer babies because there is still more
to learn about the technique since it is still

Effects of Temperature on Cell Membranes
Investigating the effect of temperature on plant cell membranes
The purpose of this activity is:
to practise experimental and investigative skills to investigate the effect of temperature on cell
membrane structures
Procedure
SAFETY: Always carry scalpels clasped to a tile and with the tip pointing away from you.
Beetroot cells contain pigments called betalains that give the tissue its dark purple red colour. The
pigment is contained in the cell vacuole.
Investigation
a. Collect 3 or 4 beetroot cores from the beaker provided. Cut each core into 2 cm sections until you
have enough for one core for each temperature of water bath that you will be using. Put your 2 cm
sections into a test tube with plenty of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the temperature, the greater the disruption to the plasma membranes and the more pigment will leak

of the beetroot cores (their surface area and volume), the advance treatment of the beetroot cores, the
volume of water in the test tubes, the pre heating (or chilling) of the water in the test tubes using the
water baths, the length of time the cores spend in the water baths, the treatment of the cores after
heating. The experiment could be made more reliable by using more samples of beetroot, and by
maintaining the temperature with thermostatically controlled water baths.

The Energy Of Solar Energy
The U.S. Energy Future is one of the most talked about subjects in science. There are many different
types of alternative energy to using fossil fuels. Scientists have warned the population that the fossil
fuels that we current use for our main fuel source may run out in less than 100 years (James Trefil
Robert Hazen, 2013). While the fossil fuels are readily available to our current generations, we need to
start making great results in switching our main energy source to more renewable energy for our
future generations. I have researched a few of the most popular alternative energy sources for the U.S.
future.
One area of US Energy Future that has been in place for some time now is Solar Energy. Solar energy
was first developed in 1954 by Daryle Chapin, Gerald Pearson and Calvin Fuller in the form of silicon
photovoltaic cells. In 1958 the solar energy field took off. The Vanguard 1 weather satellite used solar
power to power the radios and other equipment on the spacecraft. After the successful 1 year mission
using the solar power, the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Mission, Hubble Telescope and the Space
Shuttle all used solar power on their crafts (OSU Test Report, 2015). Some of the problems with solar
energy were the high cost of development and the amount of land that was needed for the solar fields
to be used and where to store the energy. One another problem was the weather being unpredictable.
The lack of sunlight would lower the amount of solar

Lightning Thief Vs Artemis Fowl
Lightning Thief vs. Artemis Fowl
Both the Lightning Thief and Artemis Fowl are in the fantasy genre, both involve full of action
adventures. Both of their narrators are humorous yet very sarcastic. Both of the stories take place in a
modern day. Percy Jackson and his demigod friends live and travel across the United States going on
quests while Artemis Fowl, a human that mostly does is work in Europe does darker business.
One of The Lightning Thief s characteristics is that it re imagined the world as a part of a never ending
Greek myth Mt. Olympus is on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building, Apollo drives a flaming
convertible, rather than a chariot, and the Bermuda Triangle becomes the Sea of Monsters. Other
myths also become a reality in Artemis Fowl as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

civilization.
One of the most obvious differences between the two series is that Percy Jackson the Olympians is
told from the first person point of view, narrated by Percy Jackson, whereas, Artemis Fowl is written
in third person perspective. The two stories follow the titular characters, both merely twelve years old
in the beginning. Unlike other books, the characters age and develop as the series moves on. Percy,
though he fails at school due to his ADHD and dyslexia, is courageous, righteous, a natural leader,
loyal to a fault, and a good fighter. Artemis, on the other hand, is cold, ruthless, smug, deathly pale

Analysis Of The Poem Salvage The Teeth Essay
Salvage the Future
Realism coupled with imaginative storytelling is Jesymn Ward s Salvage the Bones. Ward illuminated
the struggle of poverty in a way that would pull at the reader, enticing them to question how and why
this epidemic still exists in modern day America. Just like a hurricane unapologetically rips through
homes, leaving people without food, shelter, and a hope to survive, so does poverty. However, there is
an innate resilience in those who find a way to endure, despite the unpredictable present and future.
This novel gives its reader a bleak reminder of those forgotten; those who reside on the outskirts of
our consciousness. Ward implores the reader to question their own consciousness concerning poverty
by welcoming them into Esch s, one filled with quiet turmoil, deep thought and apparent struggle.
These raw and authentic characters express that this novel is not mere fiction. Although the future of
Esch is unknown, it is Ward s intention for the reader to see her in our own realities catalyzing
question, concern and action in heart and mind. She invites the reader to take both a microscopic and
macroscopic look at the epidemic of poverty whose symptoms cannot be treated without being
mindful of those who are directly afflicted.
A child that grows up in poverty maintains a world view set apart from others. Their economic
disadvantage forces them face reality and the responsibility quickly and obtrusively, giving no time for
personal discovery. This novel

Metaphors In Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God
Throughout the Eighteenth Century, religion fought a battle against science and those who
did not stand with the church were not looked at as ethical people. In the sense that they could not
possibly be good people if the did not live for God instead of themselves. Atheists were not the only
group of people who were disliked even Quakers and Jews who did not share the same God were
looked down upon. Jonathan Edwards made the message clear in his sermon that those who did not
go to church and live for God were enemies of God. The church and its followers started to make the
idea known to others that God would send them to hell for entirety unless they came back to God as
quickly as possible and repented. In his famous sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God .
Jonathan Edwards puts fear in all those who do not follow the word of God by talking about hell and
the punishment that unrepentant humans deserve. His metaphors including those about hell, the wrath
of God and the unworthiness of humans is successful in scaring the unrepentant to turn back to God
and as for forgiveness.
In one metaphor Edwards creates a clear image for his congregation when he explains that
unrepentant sinners are like heavy lead plunging toward hell without the help of God.
Edwards writes, Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with
great weight and pressure towards hell; and if God should let you go, you would immediately sink and

The Merchant Of A Renaissance Merchant Family
Renaissance Florence was a very hierarchical society where there were different classes of people and
each class had a certain function. One such class was the merchant class. Just like society in general,
the merchant class family was structured in a way that gave certain people certain roles. While it is
fairly obvious what a man s role was, it is sometimes difficult to discern what exactly a woman s role
was in this male dominated society due to varying and oftentimes conflicting accounts. In a
Renaissance Florentine merchant family, a woman s official function was to have children, to raise
them, and to help arrange their marriages when they came of age. However, it was possible, under the
correct circumstances, for a woman to expand her role within the family while still conforming to the
patriarchal ideal. In a Renaissance Florentine merchant family, a woman s most important role was to
bear and raise children. This is clear in Alberti s On the Family when he states, And for procreating
children, let no one doubt that women are necessary. For the child comes into the world tender and
weak; he therefore needs someone to take care of him...Thus the woman from earliest times remained
in the shadow [of a roof] to nurture and care for the child. Likewise, Alessandra Strozzi reiterates this
sentiment in a letter to her son where she is telling him of all the luxuries she has foregone and then
goes on to say, But for the hope that you will take a wife (in the aim of having

with the Catholic Church, at this time the Church was the dominant religious faith of Europe, the one

Cosimo traditionally has been accused of destroying Florentine liberties, these ancient liberties are
more of an illusion than a reality, he only had to make the formula of those he was evicting. To not be
taken by surprise like the Albizzi, he perfected the system by not changing in the law s actual
administration, but in the spirit of law he changed everything, it was a rule to fill high official
positions by drawing lots. The process was manipulated so that only the names of the men who could
be depended upon were drawn. The independent mood of the two municipal assemblies neutralized by
making an exceptional procedure the rule by dictatorial powers were now granted for a fixed term that

Throughout this essay, my findings on how employment regulations and restrictions impact jobs for
illegal immigrants will be discussed. My evidence and research of whether employment restrictions on
illegal aliens should be heightened or not will also be conversed as well. The overall essay will go into
some depth of what the employment restrictions are and how illegal aliens are being handled today.
Writings and graphics i.e. charts will also be used as evidence to argue for the claim. The sources that
were used to construct this essay, such as the Pew for Hispanic Research, will be cited and referenced

The Between Mind And Body
There is no real answer for the question about if mind and body are the same or different, a person is
made of mind and body and the both have different characteristics. Rene Descartes asked the question
what am I. he gives and answer to the question by saying he is a thinking thig, if the body and mind
are different from one other, mind can also continue with no body because it is not import for what he
is. Moreover body is breakable and extender and mind is not breakable and non extended, that is a
reason they are different in nature.
Rene Descartes settled the metaphysical differences between the body and mind, but he also have to
think about the relationship between mind and body. Mind and body are two different substances with
many properties. Moreover the mind and body communicate, its and everyday experience, the actions
that we do every day is from our thoughts. The relationship between the body and mind is much more
close and special, it cannot be regenerated with any other physical substances. When anywhere in the
body is wounded we feel pain and tries to not get injured again. Desires and thoughts have a
connection with how the body behaves but the mind is able to take control of the body
Descartes assumes that if it is possible to conceive of one thing without the other, then those two
things are not identical. The self is not a body, it s not a physical thing without a body. He also argues
that we can conceive of ourselves as existing. Thinking is

How Far Was Concern over National Security the Real Reason...
By the early twentieth century the Liberal Government was worried that Britain s military capability
and general military power was not as strong and it once was. Therefore, the Government s concern
over national security definitely influenced the decision for the reforms. However, there are three main
factors that also need to be taken into account when deciding if concern over national security was the
real reason for the reforms: the Social reasons, concerns for Britain s Empire and the Political motive.
The Social reasons played a large part in persuading the Liberals to reform. The detailed reports of
Booth and Rowntree, and the evidence which was brought to light, highlighted that nearly a 1/3 of

Glasgow had three poorhouses: One in the city centre, Barhill in Springburn and Govan. The
percentage of the public relying on the Poor Law relief, by 1900, was 2.5%. This may seem very little
but this figure does not represent the number of people in Britain who were in poverty. Destitute
people who accepted help from the Poor Law became paupers and automatically lost many civil rights
such as the right to vote. By 1900 many critics of the Poor Law believed that it failed to deal with
poverty adequately. In addition to criticism of the Poor Law, the evidence discovered from both Booth
and Rowntree s studies concluded that there was a large percentage of Britain s population living in
poverty. Charles Booth, a London businessman who doubted the claims of socialist that a quarter of
the population lived in extreme poverty. Working with a team of researchers from 1886 1903, Booth s
work was based on hard, statistical facts, and not opinion. His book, The Life and Labour of the
people of London , consisting of 17 volumes, showed that 25% of London s population lived in
extreme poverty. Much more than the socialists claimed. The second investigation into poverty was

Visualization In Documentary Film
When we think about visualization and representation, we are talking about not looking at the real
thing but at an image of the real thing. So visualization can be visualized as the real thing imagined,
the real thing represented and the real thing mediated. And the documentary genre attempts to do
exactly the same thing. So in this process of visualization, there comes the creative intervention of the
documentary film maker in all phases of production. In other words, aesthetics plays a vital role in
documentary film. The fact that the film maker s aesthetic concepts bring in an element of subjectivity
into the documentary film poses an important question: in what way, then, a documentary film is

The Persons Case was a turning point for women in the 1920s because of how they were treated under

of the law. The Persons case had a positive impact on Canadian society because women now had a
larger voice and say in the government and it empowered women all across Canada. The Federal
Divorce Law was an important part of the 1920 s for women in Canada because it gave them the same
rights as men in a marriage Prior to 1925, women could only apply for a divorce under special
conditions. Now, they could apply for a divorce on the same grounds as men (Morrison 39). This
quote proves how the Federal Divorce Law gave women the same rights as men when filing a divorce.
This redefined women s role in society because the fact that women and men were guided by the same
conditions under the law was seen as a step forward in women s equality. The Federal Divorce Law
had a positive impact on society because women could now file for divorce and many could get out of
unhealthy relationships which could not have been possible before this law was passed. The Dominion
Elections act is another example of how women s role in society changed where this act allowed
women to vote and run in elections In 1920, the federal government attended the act to make the
federal franchise uniform (granting the right for both women and men to vote in federal elections)

Contribution Of Literature In English Literature
INTRODUCTION
Indian literature in English originated as a necessary result of the introduction of English education in
India under colonial law. In recent years it Dhavan R.K. opines
It is now recognized has attracted widespread interest, both in India and abroad.1 (Dhavan: 1986, 5)
Indian literature in English is not only part of Commonwealth literature, but also occupies a Great
significance in the World literature.2 (Dhavan: 1986, 5)
Today, a number of Indian English writers have contributed significantly to modern English literature.
Ram Mohan Roy who heralded the Indian Renaissance and Macaulay who suggested English
language education in India were probably aware of what was in amass for the Indians in terms of
literary consciousness. Today it Mongia Sunanda says:
Has won for itself international acclaim and distinction.3 (Mongia Sunanda: 1997, 213)
Today, fiction being the most powerful form of literary expression, has acquired a impressive position

The expected impact of the Gandhian movement on Indian English literature was the sudden
blossoming of realistic novels during the 1930s. Novelists turned their attention away from the past to
focus on contemporary issues. In their novels existing social and political problems that Indians found
themselves in were given importance. The nation wide movement of Gandhi not only stimulated
Indian English novelists but also provided them with some of their high flying themes, such as the

Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Before one can move forward with their education one must understand where it all started. When
researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my research. I
would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there would be
some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as in the
university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current universities offer
post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this was not always the
case before the 19th century.
The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is
one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact of
Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars were
beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies within their
schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to advance their
studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve their knowledge
through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). Of the 10,000 students academic
celebrities as Leopold von Ranke, Herman von Homholtz, Wilhem Wundt took this opportunity to
advance their knowledge through

Summary Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Nicolo...
When you do something wrong and you are afraid of the consequences, there is usually one parent
that you would prefer to get scolded by. This is because they are the one that is more lenient or
clement, as opposed to cruel. In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and The
Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli, the question of whether it is better to be cruel or clement arises.
Machiavelli devises that leaders should strive to be considered clement over cruel for a few reasons. In
the book by Erich Remarque, there is a leader named Himmelstoss that Machiavelli could dissect
based on the beginning description of him. Machiavelli would determine that Himmelstoss is cruel
because he does not give his troops any mercy and by doing so, has garnered their hatred of him.
Machiavelli would determine Himmelstoss as cruel due to the lack of mercifulness he gives to his
subordinates. When Himmelstoss found out that the character Tjaden wet his bed when he slept at
night, instead of giving him a shake down or something similar, a more sinister plan formulated in his
mind, He hunted up another piss a bed ... and quartered him with Tjaden. Himmelstoss put these two
so that one occupied the upper and the other the lower bunk. The man underneath of course had a vile
time. The next night they were changed over and the lower one put on top so that he could retaliate.
(Remarque 46).Himmelstoss cruelty is highlighted masterfully here. Instead of simply yelling at
Tjaden or making him scrub boots till his hands bled, he devised an atrocious way of punishment.
Further adding to his sense of cruelty, Himmelstoss includes another soldier in an attempt to
demoralize and humiliate both of them.Clemency, even in a small form, can have a big impact. Too
much clemency, and the people run rampant. Too little, and there isn t a people to lead. Himmelstoss
clearly leans more toward one side when he should be seeking a balance between the two, Therefore a
prince, so long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty;
because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those, who through too much mercy, allow
disorders to arise... (Machiavelli 1). What the quote means is that there

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Saves Lives!
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) can be used by the untrained bystander, even if they have
never seen or used the machine before. This machine has both voice and visual instructions; therefore,
there is no reason to be intimidated. If you see a person suddenly collapse, pass out, or find someone
unconscious, having a general knowledge of how an AED machine functions, could save their life.
Before starting AED or any life saving measure, confirm that the person is unable to respond by
shouting, shaking, or pinching on top of their shoulders. If they are unresponsive immediately call or
have a bystander call 911, locate, and retrieve the AED machine. This machine must be used within
minutes of cardiac arrest onset to be effective; therefore, time is of the essence! Try to ascertain how
long the victim has been unconscious. Determine whether they are breathing, and if they have a pulse.
If the victim is breathing they will have a pulse; if they are not breathing or pulse is absent or
irregular, prepare to use the AED once it arrives at the scene. Roll the person on their back, and begin
doing 2 minutes of CPR (30 chest compressions). Once the AED machine is at the scene, make sure
the person isn t lying in or near water. If they are they will need to be moved to a dry area. It is
imperative to stay clear of any type of wetness when delivering shocks water will conduct electricity.
Turn on the AED power supply (some power up when you open the lid) and the device will

Website Use Greatly Increases Knowledge of Breast Cancer
It is the second leading cause of death in the United States, killing thousands of people each year.
Cancer has certainly become a growing epidemic in our society, and breast cancer is one of its most
prevalent forms. One in nine women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, making it the most
common form of cancer in women, and for many of them, this will mark the end of their life. This
plague clearly needs to be taken under control, and organizations like the National Alliance of Breast

educated about breast cancer are not only more likely to take the necessary precautions to avoid
developing the disease, but also are more inclined to know how to deal with it if they do find this
disease plaguing their lives. Therefore, educated women have less to fear, making this slogan very

Mentioning such an emotion as fear in conjunction with breast cancer causes women to want to find

NABCO has been operating for seventeen years now, and, as it states on its homepage, is the leading

Defining moments in Canadian History
During the 20th Century of Canada there have been numerous actions, decisions, and events that we
consider defining moments. Canada has been through many obstacles, battles, decisions and changes
that have changed the way we Canadians live today. The three most significant moments in the 20th
century of Canada are the invention of insulin for diabetes, Terry fox running across Canada to raise
money and awareness for cancer research, and the free trade agreement signed between the United

Amygdala
The neural regulation of emotional perception, learning, and memory is essential for normal
behavioral and cognitive functioning. The neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) modulates neural regions
involved in emotional learning, perception, and memory formation. The amygdala is part of the
interconnected set of structures that are referred to as the limbic system. The primary function of the
limbic system is to modulate emotional and motivated behavior. The amygdala plays a key role in
evaluating the emotional valence of stimuli. An example of this is when the amygdala lesions defect
fear behavior in animals. In humans the amygdala is sensitive to facial expressions of fear or
threatening words. This could be represented by wide eye expressions. Damage to the amygdala
impairs the ability to recognize the emotion of fear. Urbach Wiethe disease is a genetic disorder
leading to atrophy of the amygdala. Patients with amygdala damage are less responsive to features in
negative faces. The amygdala evaluates socially and emotionally relevant information in response to

Not all marriages have happy endings, not all marriages last forever and moving on can be difficult.
That is what the short story Reconciliation, written by Polly Clark, is trying to tell us.
The story is written in 1st person because we are able to read what she is thinking and feeling even
when she doesn t know it: It s my first day, I cycled here etc. It all starts in medias res , where the
reader is thrown into the events and quickly forced to understand everything that is happening. The
fact that it s the narrator who tells the story gives a very good insight into her world and what she is
thinking and that is very important when you have to characterize her.

Her marriage with Vernon is a big part of the story. As said earlier, they ve been married for a long

The Security Of Information Security
This document is only a brief synopsis of the ever expanding and demanding field of information
security. It contains explanations, screenshots or visual cues, and tips on multiple subjects such as
system defenses, reducing vulnerabilities, and the presence of malicious threats. Smaller areas, such as
vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, are also covered because they are very significant in
the security of information. While vulnerability assessment is a necessity, penetration testing is purely
an option to the security engineer.
What is Information Security ?
Information security is often defined as the security or assurance of information and it requires the
ability to maintain the authenticity of the information. The three common components of information
security are confidentiality, integrity, and availability and they form an essential base for the overall
picture of information security. Confidentiality is perhaps one of the most common aspects of
information security because any information that is withheld from the public within the intentions to
only allow access to authorized individuals is confidential. Encryption is often used to maintain the
confidentiality of information as encryption is one of multiple methods of access control and
Microsoft BitLocker is an example of access control encryption feature. Although TrueCrypt is no

A few days before Christmas, Oxford street is swarming with last minute shoppers, laden with parcels

Families and friends gradually emerge from clogged buses and congested trains, tired, exhausted and

Along the street, above the distressed shoppers, was a sea of decorations, of all colours,

Bailey attributes the vacancies to the very complex and difficult duties of the division directors who
often deal with competing interests within the division.
Dr. Richard Tangum, architecture, became the latest of a handful of division directors to be replaced.
In this case, I think the lines of communication between this division director and this dean had
broken down, said Bailey, stressing the importance of communication between a division director and
a dean.
Though the change to smaller departments will not eliminate departmental miscommunication and
competing interests entirely, Bailey said it would help alleviate problems.
Bailey added that the current vacancies of division directors were one factor that lead the committee to
suggest a department based structure.
Eventually, many departments, such as communication and education, are scheduled to relocate to the
new Academic III Building, proposed to be completed by spring 2003. Concurrently, the department
of computer science is scheduled to move to the new Bioengineering Building set to be completed
around the same time as the Academic III Building.

members is underway, Bailey said typically those positions will not all be filled because of the

My Vocation, My Calling Change My Life
Vocation is the calling a person experience in regards of aspirations in their life. Vocation in an
invitation by God to pursue our love for something in particular, some people hear this calling early on
in life, while other spend many years trying to find it. This paper will explore types of God callings,
my calling and how my calling change my life. One of the first calling most people experience is the
call to work. God created people to work, he did not discriminate against men and women, in his eyes
both need to work to be able to provide for them and their families. Many people are fortunate to have
this calling, but unfortunately more people are out of jobs and this is not because God did not give
them this calling, but it is because of different circumstances they experience. Genesis 1:27 28
expresses God s calling to work God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created
them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and
multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds
of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. This passage speaks to me because it
proves that God wants people to contribute to the community.
The second calling is to live, not only to work: people have to work, our jobs are necessary, but
sometimes we get caught up in our jobs that we forget to realize what is truly important and what
gives our life

This quote explains that any person who believes in feminism, believes in the idea that men and women should be treated equally. Feminism is the emphasis that women and men should not have divided opportunities. Feminism in literature is when authors use feminist beliefs in their characters. They use characters in their literature to show how the men and women are being treated equally, or how they are being treated unequally. Although it is difficult to see that feminism is showed in The Good Earth, Pearl Buck finds ways to show feminism differently throughout the female characters. O lan is one of the main characters and shows feminism in the novel. She was a slave in the House of Hwang before she became the Wife of Wang Lung. O lan helped Wang Lung achieve wealth, and she also helped their family survive during the famine. • 4. The Traditional Education System Is Vital For The Next... For many, the traditional education system is viewed as vital for the next phase of life. However for a select population, it is not effective and an alternative means for obtaining an education is necessary. Adult education provides people a chance to change their previous views about education and, most importantly, the opportunity to change their path in life. In 1968, Henry McNeil had just turned sixteen and thought that he was prepared for the workforce, so he quit high school. After he dropped out, a job was easily achieved even without a high school diploma because of his hardworking attitude. The ability to adapt to his job gave him employment until he was fifty eight. However, when the economy took a downward spiral, the companies that had once overlooked the education of the applicant in place of a good mentality, now were not able to take the risk. Insurance that the potential employee was educated weighed in more than the experience gained from prior jobs. Henry McNeil needed a new path for his life and decided to go back to school to achieve it. Every person does not go through the same intellectual stages of life at the same time. Every person is different, so diverse options for education are necessary. Therefore, adult education systems in Caldwell County and the United States of America deserve as much attention as youth education systems. The concept of adult education originated nearly a century ago. American society realized another education system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is nothing more devastating than when the movie does not follow the book either. The Girl on the Train is the perfect example of this inconsistency. Paula Hawkins famous thriller The Girl on the Train, was made into a movie in two thousand sixteen. This is one year after it was written. However, there are ethical concerns about whether the practice of designer babies will be used for the intended purpose. Since the parents are the ones deciding their baby s genes, they are able to choose according to their preferences. Therefore, it gives parents the option to decide their babies appearance and personality. Thus, it leads to the controversial aspect of gender selection through the technology of designer baby as the sex of a child at birth can be prearranged by choosing embryos for a specific sexual trait (Verlinsky, 2005, p. 24). Also, the process of designer babies has only been experimented on rabbits and rats, so it has yet to be tested on humans. Therefore, there could be hidden risks and side effects for humans that have yet to be discovered until after the procedure is completed. The issue of competence emerges because patients must understand the treatment involved and the potential side effects, as well as the probability of possible outcomes (Morrison and Furlong, 2014, p. 262). The editing of the genome is still a mystery as there could be unexplored territories. There could be the possibility of cleaving the wrong genes and as a result serious side effects may occur when necessary genes are sliced. In addition, unpredictable consequences may occur in future generations, so prospective problems may not always appear until the birth of the baby (Pang and Ho, 2016). Thus, it raises the risk of the emergence of new types of diseases or disabilities if genes are edited. It will be difficult to tell when problems arise during the process and it may eventually show up only once the irreversible procedure is completed. While the fossil fuels are readily available to our current generations, we need to start making great results in switching our main energy source to more renewable energy for our future generations. After the successful 1 year mission using the solar power, the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Mission, Hubble Telescope and the Space Shuttle all used solar power on their crafts (OSU Test Report, 2015). Ward illuminated the struggle of poverty in a way that would pull at the reader, enticing them to question how and why this epidemic still exists in modern day America. Just like a hurricane unapologetically rips through homes, leaving people without food, shelter, and a hope to survive, so does poverty. However, there is an innate resilience in those who find a way to endure, despite the unpredictable present and future. This novel gives its reader a bleak reminder of those forgotten; those who reside on the outskirts of our consciousness. Ward implores the reader to question their own consciousness concerning poverty by welcoming them into Esch s, one filled with quiet turmoil, deep thought and apparent struggle. These raw and authentic characters express that this novel is not mere fiction. Although the future of Esch is unknown, it is Ward s intention for the reader to see her in our own realities catalyzing question, concern and action in heart and mind. She invites the reader to take both a microscopic and macroscopic look at the epidemic of poverty whose symptoms cannot be treated without being mindful of those who are directly afflicted. Atheists were not the only group of people who were disliked even Quakers and Jews who did not share the same God were looked down upon. Jonathan Edwards made the message clear in his sermon that those who did not go to church and live for God were enemies of God. The church and its followers started to make the idea known to others that God would send them to hell for entirety unless they came back to God as quickly as possible and repented. In his famous sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God . His metaphors including those about hell, the wrath of God and the unworthiness of humans is successful in scaring the unrepentant to turn back to God and as for forgiveness. One such class was the merchant class. Just like society in general, the merchant class family was structured in a way that gave certain people certain roles. While it is fairly obvious what a man s role was, it is sometimes difficult to discern what exactly a woman s role was in this male dominated society due to varying and oftentimes conflicting accounts. In a Renaissance Florentine merchant family, a woman s official function was to have children, to raise them, and to help arrange their marriages when they came of age. However, it was possible, under the correct circumstances, for a woman to expand her role within the family while still conforming to the patriarchal ideal. In a Renaissance Florentine merchant family, a woman s most important role was to bear and raise children. This is clear in Alberti s On the Family when he states, And for procreating children, let no one doubt that women are necessary. The Between Mind And Body There is no real answer for the question about if mind and body are the same or different, a person is made of mind and body and the both have different characteristics. Moreover body is breakable and extender and mind is not breakable and non extended, that is a reason they are different in nature. Rene Descartes settled the metaphysical differences between the body and mind, but he also have to think about the relationship between mind and body. Mind and body are two different substances with many properties. Moreover the mind and body communicate, its and everyday experience, the actions that we do every day is from our thoughts. The relationship between the body and mind is much more close and special, it cannot be regenerated with any other physical substances. When anywhere in the body is wounded we feel pain and tries to not get injured again. Desires and thoughts have a connection with how the body behaves but the mind is able to take control of the body Descartes assumes that if it is possible to conceive of one thing without the other, then those two things are not identical. The privy council overturned the Supreme Court decision and ruled that Canadian women are persons (Colyer, Cecillon, Draper, Hoogeveen 154). This quote shows how women were now seen as persons in the British North American Act and were now allowed to become senators. This redefined women s role in society because women were now seen as equals in the eyes of the law. The Persons case had a positive impact on Canadian society because women now had a larger voice and say in the government and it empowered women all across Canada. The Federal Divorce Law was an important part of the 1920 s for women in Canada because it gave them the same rights as men in a marriage Prior to 1925, women could only apply for a divorce under special conditions. Now, they could apply for a divorce on the same grounds as men (Morrison 39). This quote proves how the Federal Divorce Law gave women the same rights as men when filing a divorce. This redefined women s role in society because the fact that women and men were guided by the same conditions under the law was seen as a step forward in women s equality. The Federal Divorce Law had a positive impact on society because women could now file for divorce and many could get out of unhealthy relationships which could not have been possible before this law was passed. When researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my research. I would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there would be some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as in the university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current universities offer post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this was not always the case before the 19th century. The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact of Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars were beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies within their schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to advance their studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve their knowledge through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). This is because they are the one that is more lenient or clement, as opposed to cruel. In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and The Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli, the question of whether it is better to be cruel or clement arises. Machiavelli devises that leaders should strive to be considered clement over cruel for a few reasons. In the book by Erich Remarque, there is a leader named Himmelstoss that Machiavelli could dissect based on the beginning description of him. Machiavelli would determine that Himmelstoss is cruel because he does not give his troops any mercy and by doing so, has garnered their hatred of him. Machiavelli would determine Himmelstoss as cruel due to the lack of mercifulness he gives to his subordinates. When Himmelstoss found out that the character Tjaden wet his bed when he slept at night, instead of giving him a shake down or something similar, a more sinister plan formulated in his mind, He hunted up another piss a bed ... and quartered him with Tjaden. Himmelstoss put these two so that one occupied the upper and the other the lower bunk. The man underneath of course had a vile time. The next night they were changed over and the lower one put on top so that he could retaliate. (Remarque 46).Himmelstoss cruelty is highlighted masterfully here. Instead of simply yelling at Tjaden or making him scrub boots till his hands bled, he devised an atrocious way of punishment. Further adding to his sense of cruelty, Himmelstoss includes another soldier in an attempt to demoralize and humiliate both of them.Clemency, even in a small form, can have a big impact. Too much clemency, and the people run rampant. Too little, and there isn t a people to lead. Himmelstoss clearly leans more toward one side when he should be seeking a balance between the two, Therefore a prince, so long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty; because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those, who through too much mercy, allow disorders to arise... If they are unresponsive immediately call or have a bystander call 911, locate, and retrieve the AED machine. This machine must be used within minutes of cardiac arrest onset to be effective; therefore, time is of the essence! Try to ascertain how long the victim has been unconscious. Determine whether they are breathing, and if they have a pulse. If the victim is breathing they will have a pulse; if they are not breathing or pulse is absent or irregular, prepare to use the AED once it arrives at the scene. Roll the person on their back, and begin doing 2 minutes of CPR (30 chest compressions). Once the AED machine is at the scene, make sure the person isn t lying in or near water. If they are they will need to be moved to a dry area. It is imperative to stay clear of any type of wetness when delivering shocks water will conduct electricity. Right beneath its name on its homepage, NABCO writes its slogan: The more you know, the less you fear. These words alone really seem to state their goal right away this is an informative and educational site. Women who are educated about breast cancer are not only more likely to take the necessary precautions to avoid developing the disease, but also are more inclined to know how to deal with it if they do find this disease plaguing their lives. Therefore, educated women have less to fear, making this slogan very accurate to NABCO s purpose. This slogan also does a lot to establish the site s pathos appeal. Mentioning such an emotion as fear in conjunction with breast cancer causes women to want to find out more about the disease in an attempt to avoid this fear invading their own lives. NABCO has been operating for seventeen years now, and, as it states on its homepage, is the leading non profit information and education resource on breast cancer in the U.S. This statement says a lot about NABCO s credibility, really developing its ethos appeal. This paper will explore types of God callings, my calling and how my calling change my life. One of the first calling most people experience is the call to work. God created people to work, he did not discriminate against men and women, in his eyes both need to work to be able to provide for them and their families. God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. This passage speaks to me because it proves that God wants people to contribute to the community.
