The Theory Of Legitimacy Of Political Authority Essay
Through the channels of social change, there are truly only two fundamental ways to produce
revolution: through either working with the system or directly contrasting the system. Historically, we
can see the recurrence of both parties at the heart of action. While the point of deliberation could be an
individual, a group, a governing body, or an enterprise, social forces work to see justice is properly
met. This belief has withstood varying philosophical and structural systemic changes. Additionally, it
is compliant with a degree of political participation. Modernly, the contractarianism that exists, the
theory of legitimacy of political authority (Cudd, 2000), demands a level of democracy and tolerance.
Many modern states rely upon a social contract to function. As individuals within these states seek
stability, they rationalize that maintaining a certain level of morality is in their best interest, thus
consenting to a government. If a group within any state contests any of the contractual obligations, a
political or social movement serves to begin dialogue and negotiation. To be clear, many social
movements take the form of grassroots organizing, or community organizing, which refers to the
collective action of the part of a community or group in order to effect change at the local, regional,
national, or international level. They empower communities whose aims can range from encouraging
political conversation to increasing mass participation in politics. Despite

The Persian Gulf War
Was the Gulf War a fight on the protection and freedom of a defenseless nation. Or was it what laid
beneath Kuwait s city in its rich oil field reserves. The Gulf War or also called the Persian Gulf War,
Operation Desert Storm or the First Iraqi War was a very cooperative
fight against the regime of Saddam Hussein. The precursor of the Gulf War were laid down many
years before the war began. Iraq always was very pugnacious with the surrounding nations. In the
1960 s a seizure of power aquired in Iraq and the Ba athist political party
took power. By the late 1970 s a leading Ba athist political leader General Saddam Hussein became
the official President of Iraq. Saddam built up the Iraqi army and began war that lasted a staggering 8
long years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After President Bush Sr. saw all of this he began to change, his speeches became more on protecting
the innocent people of Kuwait and
keeping them free. He also talked about Saddam Hussein being the next Adolf Hitler and he needed to
be taken care of. After the war in 1991 President Bush received a very high regards for the victory.
And the controversy began to take place on whether any
mistakes on his policy were the result of the war breaking out in the first place. Throughout the 1980 s
America continuously kept an eye on Saddam Hussein on the long war of Iraq and Iran. The Reagan
administration misconceived a favor to sale guns to the Iran
contra scandal. America always liked Iraq despite having Saddam Hussein . Evidence showed that
Saddam Hussein might have weapons of mass destruction and using deadly gas against against the
Kurdish. America wanted to help Iraq but they had huge
unemployment and they were in a bad economic state, the oil prices were down and they were deeply
in debt with the Arab states. In mid 1990 Saddam had said that Kuwait was apparently draining Iraqi
oil beside the border. Saddam said that the oil rightfuly belonged

The Chuckwallas and Evolutionary Research
Ever since Charles Darwin s first publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, island habitats have
been used by a number of scientists as the most efficient laboratories to observe the natural process of
evolution taking place in modern day organisms. Several kilometers northeast of the Galapagos
Islands, where Darwin famously performed his research, is a small group of islands in the Sea of
Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico (see
Figure 1 on page 18). Here many evolutionary biologists of the 20th and 21st century performed
research on the insular organisms inhabiting these island habitats. One group of lizards in particular
known by the common name chuckwallas has gained a lot of focus in evolutionary research.
Chuckwallas is the name of organisms in the Sauromalus genus apart of the Iguanidae family. They
are herbivorous lizards commonly found in the deserts of southwestern United States and Northern
Mexico. Three species, in particular, are found on the islands off the cost of the mainland within the
Sea of Cortés: Sauromalus obesus (= ater), Sauromalus varius, and Sauromalus hispidus (see Figure 2
on page 20). S. obesus is a common species found on the mainland as well as few islands, while S.
varius are S. hispidus are endemic to specific islands in the Sea of Cortés: mainly San Esteban Island
and Angel de la Guarda Island, respectively. Both of these insular species also show signs of
gigantism

• Explain How The Device And Procedures Support The Body...
How does the device and procedures support the role of the body systems?
The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the body.
The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover. The
artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of time
while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Why is the device needed?
The device is needed when a person s heart fails to operate correctly. A person needing an artificial
heart would be extremely ill that is they would not be able to function like an everyday person. E.g.
walking.
People, who receive artificial hearts, fall into two categories being bridge or destination. The bridge
group, are those people who would most likely die waiting for a suitable donor heart. The destination
group are those patients who s body would not suit a donor heart transplant but would benefit in
additional years lived from an artificial heart.
How does it work? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two types of artificial hearts, the first being a pump that is connected to the patient s
circulatory system; it maintains life when the patient s heart is stopped for the surgeons to be able to
operate on the heart. The second type is a self contained mechanical heart that sits completely in the
patient s chest cavity. This second type of heart is known as a VAD pump which pumps blood from
the left ventricle to the aorta. Most mechanical hearts use a centrifugal pump, which is quieter, uses
less energy and lasts longer than the piston type mechanical hearts. The centrifugal pump produces a
constant flow of blood around the body; therefore the patient will not have a

A Separate Piece Literary Analysis
When many things break, they often never return back as healthy as it was before. In John Knowles A
Separate Piece, Gene and Finny are two best friends who go through many hardships together as their
years pass at the Devon School. All of the boys in attendance are preparing to be enlisted in the war
that is going on outside of school but they each are fighting their own inside themselves. In A Separate
Piece, Knowles utilizes the allegory of Finny s broken leg to represent the difficult times throughout a
friendship.
As Gene comes back to the Devon School fifteen years later he revisits certain sites that have
important meaning to him. While he is tracing through the years he has spent there many things come
to his attention that he hadn t noticed before. He makes his way to the place of the marble staircase
and says, The marble must be unusually hard. That seemed very likely, only too likely, although with
all my thought about these stairs exceptional hardness had not occurred to me. It was surprising that I
had overlooked that, that crucial fact. (Knowles, 2) This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene believes that Finny had started the fight because no one else would have been able to convince
that many people to come along. We ended the fight in the only way possible; all of us turned on
Phineas. (Knowles, 92) He was the weak one of the group, so he got left behind from the others and
that is how the fight ended. This means that Gene and the other boys are evolving and coming together
as a group while Finny is not. No, of course I won t break it again. Isn t the bone supposed to be
stronger when it grows together over a place where it s been broken once? (Knowles, 93) Finny says
this to Gene because he believes that things will get better, and he will come back stronger. This also
represents their friendship because it was broken at one point and it will never fully be what it was

The Napoleon Complex
The common perception that a typical person will have if you mention Napoleon is the idea of a short,
angry, and bossy little man who is aggressive to compensate for being little, in other words having a
Napoleon Complex . Ironically the idea that Napoleon was a short man is false as he was average
height for his size at the time. A more useful way to look at a Napoleon complex would be to describe
it as, a person who is driven by a perceived handicap to overcompensate in other aspects, in their lives.
With this definition, we get what Napoleons mentality was through the course of his life. Napoleon
was born into nobility but had very little power at his disposal, to put himself in a position of power he
learned how to seemingly change his identity and raise himself in the ranks of the French military.
Once he put himself in the most powerful position, in France he began to seek more power by
conquering other countries in war and making treaties with them or absorbing them into France all
together.. All this was made possible by his aggressive non stop military style and charismatic ability.
Napoleon was one of the most powerful dictators and influential leaders in European history; he was
able to accomplish feats that only the great leader of Europe have been able to accomplish through is
unrelenting ambition.
Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 in the city of Ajaccio on the island of Corsica, a
conquered colony of France. It is a paradox to think that a

Essay On Hawaii Volcanoes
Hawaii: Geology s Volcanic Wonder of the World It is well know that Hawaii is very volcanically
active and is home to the world s most active volcanoes. Hawaii is unique because the islands are
caused by a hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate, one of the largest crustal plates on earth. There
are only a few hot spots on earth and they occur in an area where the plate is thin and weak creating
volcanism, where molten magma ruptures the earth s crust. For Hawaii, the hot spot is under the sea
floor, it creates under sea volcanoes. Over millions of years these volcanoes build up to sea level and
become islands. As for Hawaii, the Pacific Plate has moved northwest across this hot spot creating
what we know today as the Hawaiian Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. In all, ... Show more content

Erupting steadily since March 2008, the summit crater, Halemaumau continues to send plumes of
sulfur dioxide and steam clouds. In the east rift zone of Kilauea is Pu u O o, a volcanic vent that is
considered active. You can safely access this area by helicopter because it is too far from roads to
drive however if you don t mind the mile walk, you can hike in on a marked pathway to view the lava
flows. The world s largest active shield volcano, Mauna Loa, is also located on the Island of Hawaii.
Mauna Loa s last eruption was March 24 through April 15, 1984, and has been heavily monitored
since 1912 because of its immediate threat to population centers. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
encompasses the summit of Mauna Loa and the southeast flank of the volcano and further south to

Hawaii s volcanoes are shield volcanoes and considered to have effusive eruptions, a type of eruption
where lava steadily flows from the volcano onto the earth s surface and the viscosity of the lava,
amount and time of the eruption and the grade of the immediate area usually dictates the shape of the

Stalinist Gulag Camps And Violations To Human Rights
Stalinist Gulag Camps and Violations to Human Rights There are many types of different labor camps
that were meant to confine a group of people, but one of the most significant were Stalinist Gulags,
leading to the disappearances of millions of people. The Stalinist Gulags are in violation of many
articles, but a few are Articles 4, 5, 9, and 10. Article 4 is stated that no one shall be held in slavery,
which in Gulags they are doing forced and unpaid labor. Article 5 states that no one should be
subjected to cruel, and degrading treatment or punishment, which there was quite a bit of that
happening in gulags. Article 9 says that no one should be subjected to arbitrary arrest (random arrest),
detention or exile, people would just be randomly put in the camps if they were thought to be rebels,
without a hearing that is. And the last Article, Article 10, states that everyone should have a fair and
public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, but people would commonly just disappear
and no one would know where they went, But really they were taken to Gulags to work. Stalinist
Gulags violated the articles of Declaration of Human Rights because of how prisoners were treated
and also how they were incarcerated in camps. Gulags were labor camps that were used during the
Stalin era, people were sent there for all types of reasons but mostly petty crimes and opinions. Gulag

GENESIS AND ANCIENT MYTHS OF THE NEAR EAST
When one approaches the biblical text, it is important to explore the cultural context in which the text
occurs. With regard to the Book of Genesis, it is important to examine the writing with other
contemporary works of similar geography and topics. The people of ancient Mesopotamia, where the
oldest civilizations originated, produced a number of stories of creation and natural occurrences. It is
important to note that many of the stories of the Sumerians, Akkadians and Hebrews began as oral
traditions as the events they depict predate writing, so it is difficult to date these works on the basis of
when these prehistoric myths were initiated. Comparison to writings contemporary to the people of
Israel, can offer a deeper understanding of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as there existed beings outside of creation in the Enuma Elish, the Hebrew God was present prior
to the formation of the world. As the universe becomes defined in the following stages, the
development described in each of the stories show a resemblance in events and the order in which they
occurred. It is important to note that light existed, in both stories, independent of celestial bodies.
Next, in same order, the sky and ground are created, followed by luminaries or the sun, moon and
stars. The fact that the sequence of the creation stories is nearly identical can hardly be accidental
according to some scholars. Subsequently, man is created with elements of divinity, given the task of
working the soil . At the conclusion of each creation story, the deities rest from their work. While it is
necessary to refrain from exaggerating the influence found in these similarities, it is equally essential
to remain open to the understanding that these works emerged within a similar conceptual world .
Though many similarities in the creation stories of Genesis and the Enuma Elish, the divergences are
much more far reaching and significant . Unlike the gods of depicted in the Enuma Elish who were
coexistent and coeternal with the comic matter , the Hebrew God is transcendent and separate from the
substance of the cosmos, having Himself created it. While the Hebrew God exists in eternity past,

The Voting Age Should Be Reduced
The Democratic system has been long withstanding in many countries, we take pride in having a
government that is for, by, and of the people. With a democratic system comes the right to vote; it has
a sense of empowerment the power of voting bears within itself the power of change. With a
government representing the views and will of the people, voters possess a significant responsibility
that is capable of impacting the nation as a whole; but when misused or mishandled, can result in
undesired repercussions. In many countries, youth are granted the ability to vote at the age of 18.
However, the question of whether the voting age should be reduced to 16 has been debated nationwide
for numerous years. While most individuals under the age of 18 are still in school and live with their
families two factors that encourage turnout and make informed decisions (Wagner, Joahnn, Kritzinger,
2012, 372), the reasoning falls short. This is because many youth are incapable of forming their own
decisions and are limited to the consent of a guardian in many aspects. Young people below the age of
18 lack the motivation, knowledge and ambition to participate in the electoral process (Zeglovits,
2013, 250) and will not challenge the government to respond to their needs (Wagner et al. 2012, 373).
In addition, various accounts of research has proven to show that the brains of young adults are not
fully mature until their mid twenties. Due to this, they may not be able to comprehend the

Meaning Of Family In Lilo And Stitch
Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten, Lilo (Disney s Channel s

of the realest meanings ever. I happen to wholeheartedly believe in this quote and every meaning it
may hold, not because I love the Lilo and Stitch series as well as the movies (though I do), but
because of the fact that I think it has an in depth significance in the meaning of family. It shows a
depiction even through the eyes of blue alien like creature the importance of the word family. A

It s shortness in duration does not take away from the incredible magnitiude of absolute destruction

To give you perspective, World War II lasted three hundred and 10 weeks and that war was known for
aereal bomb droppings. In just two weeks of being in combat with Iraq, Coalition forces dropped more
explosives in two weeks than all of World War 2. We were giving Saddam and his troops a complete
display of shock and awe. At the peak of troop numbers we had 430,000 and every day American
forces were moving 6 million pounds of supplies daily. The bottom of the line is that the Coalition,
mainly America, was going to win this war via superior technology and man power. Before this war,
the Republican Guard was seen as the greatest military force in the Middle East and no one was going
to beat them. We see in the six week campaign that this was not to be the case, as casualty reports for
the Iraq side to be 20,000 all the way up to almost 35,000. Whereas US forces had 148 KIA

America might have no lost many soldiers, but the amount of finances used during this war was
staggering. The US forces were paying $17.9 billion dollars for the war where as the rest of the

Essay Assignment 1
Anti Black Stereotypes in Modern Media Stereotypes are defined as an oversimplified image or idea
about a specific type of person. It is believed that stereotypes about African Americans began in the
United States around the 18th century. Anti Black stereotypes arguably the most developed racist
stereotypes in racial framing and have been used as foundations for the capture, enslavement, and
later, the subjugation of African American people. Stating that stereotypes are just a joke is an
understatement of the consequential after math racial images and stereotypes have on the African
American population. Even stereotypes that are considered positive are often concealed with negative
implications and reasons as to why they exist. Most people may think they only hold stereotypes in the
back of their head, but studies show that people are more likely to fall back on them in making
judgments when they feel challenged, face uncertainty, or experience sensory overload. Using
information from class, comparisons from the films we have watched and Ed Guerrero s Framing

Analysis Of The Book The Of Lakeview Park
Having realized he dropped his smart phone somewhere in the vast flora of Lakeview park, Julian was
berating himself. Not only did he face the daunting terrain, it was getting dark very fast. Not willing to
give up his smart phone to the wild or the darkness Julian prepared for the worst. He grabbed a
flashlight, knife, a small bottle of oleoresin capsaicin spray and asked his mother to drive him, two
accidents left Julian unable to drive, his mind is left unable to focus under the effects of the drugs
prescribed to help him with his symptoms. The drive to Lakeview park was surreal, what was once a
veritable paradise during the day became a place of nightmares at night. Beautiful oak trees twisted
into dark phantasms. Julian left his Mother Julie behind in case he didn t come back in half an hour.
Julian knew the terrain well even at night he was able to retrace his steps. The first place where the

Julian knew there were many homeless who stayed at the park at night unwilling to be noticed he
turned off the small L.E.D. flashlight and blended in with the darkness silently yet quickly moving

Security Is A Fundamental Part Of A Structured Business
Security is a basic need for people to feel safe about themselves and their belongings. Security is an
essential part of everyone s life and the more secure something it the more stress free you can be. For
data companies, security is a fundamental part of a structured business; this leads them to develop data
security, more specifically, security in data warehousing. Data security is the protection of data from
destructive forces and from the unauthorized use or undesirable actions, in systems such as databases.
Data warehouses are central repositories of integrated data from one or more disparate sources. They
store current and historical data and are used for creating analytical reports for knowledge workers
throughout the enterprise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data mart is a simple form of a data warehouse that is focused on a single subject, such as sales,
finance or marketing. Data marts are often built and controlled by a single department within an
organization. Given their single subject focus, data marts usually draw data from only a few sources.
The sources could be internal operational systems, a central data warehouse, or external data. De
normalization is the norm for data modeling techniques in this system. Online Analytical Processing
or OLAP is characterized by a relatively low volume of transactions. Queries are often very complex
and involve aggregations. OLAP system response time is an effectiveness measure that is used by
Data Mining techniques. OLAP databases store aggregated, historical data in multi dimensional
schemas. OLAP systems typically have data latency of a few hours, as opposed to data marts, where
latency is expected to be closer to one day. Online Transaction Processing or OLTP is characterized by
a large number of short on line transactions. OLTP systems emphasize very fast query processing and
maintaining data integrity in multi access environments. OLTP systems the number of transactions per

transactional databases is the entity model. Normalization is the norm for data modeling techniques in

Benefits Of Genetically Modified Organisms ( Gmos ) Essay
Life on earth began approximately 3.5 billion years ago and, since the rapid diversification of most
major living phyla (known as The Cambrian Explosion), evolution has given rise to an extraordinarily
diverse range of life forms. Evolution has resulted in various species with a wide range of traits, each
with the potential to be utilized by human kind. By modifying these organisms through cross breeding
and artificial selection to create crops with desirable traits, the agriculture industry has found a way to
produce essential food crops and a way to feed the world .
In the 1970s, Morrow et al. developed a technique that allowed them to cut DNA from one organism
and splice it with the DNA of another and thus modern biotechnology was born. Today, it is possible
to sidestep the relatively slow process of evolution by modifying genes of plants and animals in the
lab. Presently, such modifications allow for pest and herbicide resistance; faster crop production; more
nutritious food sources; and even disease resistance .
Despite these purported benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), there is considerable
debate surrounding their use. In the public sphere, beliefs concerning GMO tend to be dominated by
two markedly opposing narratives and it seems that one can only be in one of two camps:
I. Critics of GMO: Arguing that the use of GMO is not justified as it is unnatural, unsafe, and may
have long term environmental impacts.
II. Advocates of GMO: Arguing that

Antitrust Laws And The Federal Branch Of The United States...
The role of antitrust laws has been the subject of numerous publications that have attempted to
provide a precise set of reasons and inspirations for their creation. However, there are still many
schools of thought on the subject and much debate over the effectiveness and legitimate
implementation of these laws. This paper analyzes the three main antitrust laws that the federal branch
of the United States government uses to try to restrict monopolies. This paper also looks at antitrust
laws in the modern business environment, and attempts to relay the information in a manner that a
newcomer to the subject will understand the concept as it relates to modern technology and business
practices. The findings of this paper indicate that the topic of antitrust laws is more complex than
many believe and, depending on the position of the person affected by monopolies, the sentiment
ranges widely.
Antitrust Laws The main purpose of antitrust laws is to promote competition in the markets by
preventing monopolies. They also protect consumers and other businesses from unfair business
practices and collusion among companies. The thought behind this is that consumers are hurt when
monopolies exist because they have fewer choices, the price is likely to be higher, and the services
being provided may not be very good. Turmoil in the national economy during the 1870 s and 1880 s
necessitated the development of trust that would stabilize individual industries. This would later

Utilization of Satellite Information to Screen Carbon...
Article 1 Overview: This study investigated the utilization of satellite information to screen carbon
monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM) in Northern Thailand throughout the dry season when
woodland flames are known to be a vital reason for air contamination. Satellite information,
incorporating Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT) CO, Moderate Resolution
Imaging Spectroradiometer vaporized optical profundity (MODIS AOD), and MODIS fire hotspots,
were examined with air contamination information measured at nine programmed air quality
overseeing stations in the study range for February April months of 2008 2010. The association
examination indicated that every day CO and PM with size beneath 10 μm (Pm10) were connected
with the woodland fire hotspot include, particularly the country regions with the most extreme
relationship coefficient (R) of 0.59 for CO and 0.65 for Pm10. The correspondences between MODIS
AOD and Pm10, between MOPITT CO and CO, and between MODIS AOD and MOPITT CO were
additionally dissected, affirming the companionship between these variables. Two backwoods fire
scenes were chosen, and the scattering of contamination tufts was mulled over utilizing the MOPITT
CO downright segment and MODIS AOD information, together with the surface wind vectors. The
outcomes demonstrated consistency between the crest scatterings, areas of thick hotspots, ground
checking information, and common winds. The satellite information were indicated to be

Charles Perrault Research Paper
Charles Perrault was born into a middle class family in France in 1628. Charles also received a law

children would just read adult literature. Cinderella or the little glass slipper by Charles Perrault is a
folk tale embodying a myth element of unjust oppression/triumphant reward. It is thought that Perrault
mistakenly wrote that Cendrillon s slipper was made from glass (Charles perrault, 2006). The French
words glass (verre) and fur (vair) are very similar so it is thought that a mistranslation led to the
inclusion of the famous glass slippers (Cinderella; or, The Little Glass Slipper, 2003.). Perrault

Mark Menis-Kyleer Analysis
During World War II, the allied forces planned an invasion against the German army at the beaches of
Normandy, France. With this assault still hours away, the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division
Paratroopers were already executing night drops behind enemy lines. An article published at

the element of surprise while the main force landed the beaches (Budanovic). Foggy weather made
drop zone accuracy difficult for the 82nd, but they adapted and did their best to complete their
mission. This same determination resonates in the life of a more recent veteran of the 82nd Airborne,

Between The Lines Of Beowulf
Between the Lines of Beowulf Epic poems date back to the early years Before Christ, some even as
far into the past as 2100 Before Christ. The original unknown author of Beowulf writes in the Old
English language and illustrates medieval times in stunning detail. Burton Raffel credibly translates
ancient works of literature into a legible dialect of today s society, while obtaining many of the literary
elements used in the original pieces of writing. Readers regard Beowulf as the mother poem of
England. This recognition only increases the significance of Beowulf, the actual character, as an epic
hero. The poem itself reflects on the Anglo Saxon way of life, and establishes great differences from

Delinquency In The 1950 s
Media Turns the U.S.A Upsidedown
As World War II came to a close and national aggression simmered down, the streets of the U.S. ran
rampant with the pesky youth of the 1950s. Whose fault was this? Blame could be placed on the
mandatory attendance at schools, or the lack of stay at home mothers, but the main culprit was the
media. From the graphic images projected in movies, and the harsh language found in popular songs
and intimate dances, to the new comic book series that were being printed off, media was the new tool
that was molding the minds of America especially the youth. The rise of juvenile delinquency in the
1950 s was caused by the unceasing presence of media or peer culture .
Movies and TV shows were growing faster now after WWII since TV s were becoming more
affordable and people had more leisure time. Many popular movies in the 1950s had content that was
not appropriate for the youth of the day, but were still viewed by people under the age of 18. Films

Why Being Self Reliant is Necessary Steve Jobs was fired from apple for his temper, his over

about 5 years later Jobs founded the NeXT Computer using $7 million. A year after that Jobs bought

have working with them again. Almost a decade later Steve Jobs admitted that Getting fired from
Apple was the best thing that happened to me. . Without self reliance Jobs would have never made his

The Influence of Renaissance in Art and Architecture
The influences of any era is evident through artwork and architecture. During the Middle Ages the
main influence was the church, this is evident through the focus on biblical and religious symbols.
During the Renaissance the main focus was the study of people. This is shown through the increase in
self portraits and classical antiquity inspired buildings. The change between the Middle Ages and the
Renaissance is best shown through the art and architecture, demonstrated specifically through an
emphasis on religion and classical antiquity, both suggesting a clear cultural change. The culture of

The art and architecture displayed during the Renaissance showed many influences from the ancient
Greek and Roman cultures. Middle age architecture led into humanism and classical antiquity, which
is shown through many buildings during that time (Deliyannis). Middle Age architecture was
influenced by Romanesque architecture. Their buildings had pointed arches, big windows, bigger
buildings and more focus on religious styles (Deliyannis). This is evident through the many cathedrals
in England. While Middle Age architecture was influenced by Romanesque architecture, Renaissance
architecture was influenced by classical antiquity (Hankins). Classical antiquity is known as the revial
of the cultures of Greece and Rome. Renaissance architecture focused on symmetry, proportion and

Maxim Killed Rebecca
Whenever beloved books appear on screen, there are critical changes made which can be either
beneficial and detrimental to the audience s response to the film. Films can either capture the entirety
of a book, or change the plot so drastically it becomes reminiscent of the book. This often leads to the
age old argument of whether the book or film is better. In the film interpretation of Rebecca,
Hitchcock manipulates Du Maurier s intended theme of justice and judgment by altering the purpose
of critical scenes, characters, and the ending of the book through the cinematography and
reconstruction of key events.
Rebecca is never present in the book, but has the most influential role in the story. In the book, Maxim
killed Rebecca because he wanted out of her wrath; her earthly power was too much for him to bear.
This portrayed him as a hurting man who seeked revenge. Hitchcock s version majorly changed this as
he made Rebecca haphazardly die, changing the audience s perception on Maxim. This staged him as
a victim, rather than a murderer. Doing this allowed the audience to side with Maxim and Rebecca s
side rather than the side of Ms. Danvers and Rebecca s family. ... Show more content on

implied that she knows what happened deep down but had trouble coping with it. But as she is

deeper meaning that comes along with it; there is no reason she should be grieving this hard as all the

Michel Foucault s Conception Of Discourse
By definition discourse simply means communication, but it can encompass a whole different idea
which relates to why we say what we say or do what we do in society a cerain way. The discourse
theory was first presented by French philosopher Michel Foucault which states that discourse is
simply systems of thoughts composed of ideas, attitudes, courses of action, beliefs and practices that
systematically construct the subjects and the worlds of which they speak.
For instance, the idea of discourse can be seen with the whole idea of 9/11. Before September 11th,
2001 the numbers 9 and 11 had no apparent meaning, but after the whole incident simply saying the
numbers 9 and 11 have a whole significant meaning around the globe. The event ... Show more

including invading Afghanistan as a way to root out and fight terrorism. The government consistently

which influenced society. The government was able to justify the use of force on foreign countries, as
a way to protect our country s national security , and society has never questioned the government s
actions because who would if it is protecting our country. Thus, with the acceptance of these ideas by
society the government was able to justify their actions like increasing airport security, and invading
Afghanistan because they know how to protect our country. The new discourses relating to terrorism

from the adults who suffer concussions, but what about these adolescents? I think it would be harder
to diagnose a concussion from adolescents so they should check these kids more and the way they
play sports so the doctors can improve the injuries for further on in life.
A concussion is traumatic brain injury, usually caused by a person hitting their head on something or
sudden movement that can cause the brain to rattle in the skull. A way a person gets a concussion is a
mishap due to an uncommon move with the neck and brain. Sports ... Show more content on

When does an athlete know how they can come back from a concussion? There are 22 different
written guidelines for concussion severity and determining return to play. In a grade 1 concussion,
most common yet most difficult to recognize the seriousness of the concussion the athlete does not
lose consciousness and has only one transient or momentary confusion for less than 15 minutes
(Heads Up). A grade 2 concussion is when the athlete also does not become unconscious but sees
signs of confusion or other differences in their normal self for longer than 15 minutes. Grade 3
concussions are the most easily recognized as the athlete loses consciousness, either briefly or for
more prolonged periods of time (Heads Up 3).
We should be exploring new ways to keep athletes safe from concussions. Public advocates are trying
to find new ways to prevent traumatic brain injuries. These include difficulty concentrating or thinking
clearly, headaches, irritability, anxiety, or sadness. These injuries have also been linked to sleep
problems, vision problems, and sensitivity to light and noise. Concussions can also include long term
risks for depression, epilepsy, Parkinson s disease, Alzheimer s disease and other health issues. NFL
Head Health Challenges a grant worth $3.5 million initiative to fight brain injuries, to study how
helmetless practices should teach high school football players to hit without using their heads (Heads

Dances With Wolves Analysis
I thought the movie Dances with Wolves was a good film. I think that this was a good film since it had
a good storyline. In addition, I had thought the movies was also very interesting. I thought it was
interesting as it showed me the communication barrier between Dunbar and the Indians, the Indians
lack of knowledge on weaponry, and the perception of Indians. I also thought it was a good film, since
I had also learned a few things from it. One of those things being the perception of Indians.
The movie gave me an insight on the relationship between the US and Indian relationships as it seems
as the USA did not like the Indians. It shows this with the perception of the Indians from the
comments the white people had made toward the Indians and ... Show more content on

I feel that this movie would be a historical fiction since the film does have some historical facts and
meaning. Some parts of the movie that show historical facts would be the perception of the Indians,
the few battles, and the customs of the Indians. These things cannot fictionalized, and would require
some research.
The treatment of the native people west of the Mississippi river in the time period following the civil
war was poor. The white people wanted the Indians to be exterminated. An example of this happened
in Colorado, when some Indian chiefs had sought peace and negotiation. In this negotiation, they had
army protection, however, they were killed in their sleep. The Indians were also treated poorly as they
suffered from the white Americans racism, their belief that they owned all the land, and paternalism.
The forces at work on both of these sides were the people that had strong beliefs and were not going to
stand for anything but their beliefs. The Indians were on the west side of the Mississippi river, and
they did not want to leave their land. The white people were on the other side of the Mississippi river
and had their belief that they owned all the land. With these two groups of people with different
beliefs, this had lead to incompatible

A Research Project Manager Should Monitor The Project
 A virus wipes off very important data.  A malware cause serious disaster.  A hacker, hack our
systems.  A developer left the company during the project development.  Electric short circuit
cause serious problem.  Unrealistic budgeting and schedules. To identify the risk is brainstorming
job. It requires a lot of investigation to find the root cause of the problem. 6.1 Ishikawa Diagrams
Ishikawa diagrams were first proposed by Professor Kauru Ishikawa in the 1960s for quality
management. It s also known as fishbone diagrams or cause and effect diagrams . We are using the
same technique to identify risk on our project. 6.2 Risk Monitoring and Control The project risks were
identified in the risk section, however we can explain how the risk be monitored. The project manager
should monitor the project in each task to prevent any indication of problems. 1. The project manager
will keep monitoring the milestones of the application to identify the potential risk and to confirm the
completion of the project task. 2. Every week the project manager will held meeting with 2 software
engineers, 1 test engineer and 1 staff from admin department. They communicate closely and bring all
the issues in discussion from all relevant tasks of the week and overall project. 3. The minutes of the
meetings will be recorded for future reference and the office record. After identifying the risk some
decisions should be taken to avoid the risk, and responsible person

The People Of The Khasa
even the slaves of the Khasa. The Khasa is considered the people left behind during one of the many
violent prehistoric battles. That stayed and created a life for themselves in the cities they conquered.
These early settlers paved the way for the culture and way of life that still thrives in these mountains.
Being only able to appropriately live in the middle himalaya to the plateau range during prehistoric
migrations the Greater Himalayan region remained untouched. Mountaineering, alpinism, climbing all
mean the same. The purpose of enjoying climbing itself as a sport or recreation, distinct from merely
climbing while hunting or as a religious pilgrimage. This was not a thing until around the 1854 when a
man called Sir Alfred Wills climbed the Wetterhorn in the swiss alps came back to england and
formed the first alpine club. This marked the beginning of a sport that has killed the people that live
with it and baffles the people who live without it. Around a hundred years later the world of alpinism
was looking for unsubmitted peaks and they turned to the himalayas. This was not the first time the
himalayas had people attempting to summit some if its ridges. In the history of people climbing
mountains there is two types of ways to do it. Expedition style and alpine style. Expedition style
climbing is when you bring a large slow moving party and make your way up the slopes in a series of
camps. This was a common type of climbing in the early years with massive millitarys

Macroeconomics for Business Debt Sustainability
BS1780 Macroeconomics for Business Problem Set 3 Group Assignment February 2016
1)
Assuming that the nominal interest rate, the inflation rate, the real GDP growth and primary deficit
remain constant for the next year, we can compute the projected next year end debt as a percentage of
GDP by using the equation: dt+1=dt+i πdt grdt st+1 In this case, dt is the public debt (as % of GDP) of
2011, which is 88%; i is the government interest rate 7% according to our assumption; π is the
inflation rate, which was 2% if it is held constant constant in the next year; gr is 1%, the real GDP
growth; and st+1 is the primary deficit, which is 3%. Therefore: dt+1=88%+7% 2%×88%

Most of this change is due to the decrease in primary deficit and interest rate. Real interest rate
component of the debt ratio change dropped from 4.4% to 0.44% and the primary deficit component
fell from 3% to 0%. However, when examine the years after the loan, we found that the debt ratio
starts to rise gradually. It s notable that the increase is marginal compared to when there is no IMF
loan. In this sense, the IMF loan has a prompt effect on mitigating Cyprus debt trouble, but the effect
will not last long. To deal the root of the problem, Cyprus needs to work on its real economy.
The table above gives what we believe is an unrealistic forecast of what would in fact happen to the
Cypriot economy and the debt to GDP

Wife Of Bath And Pardoners Tale Essay
The Pardoner and The Wife of Bath by Geoffrey Chaucer was a intriguing read. The Canterbury Tales
teach the reader a life lesson through the telling of a story. The pardoner was full of greed and very
money hungry. While the Wife of Bath was a old hag who just wanted loyalty and love from knight
Arthur. The Pardoner and the Wife of Bath are both faced with decisions that could potentially end
their lives. Loyalty and trust are expressed throughout the Wife of Bath. While the pardoner teaches
greed and self indulgence is also a sin when that is all you care about in life. The Pardoner was a
preacher who would travel from place to place and speak faith and hope into people. While the
preacher would preach he would condemn people along with judge them. The Pardoner is a very
wealthy man but he still makes the group of young Flemish people lather him food and fancy wines.
The pardoner would rather take widows last dollar to put in his endless pockets rather than to give it to
her to feed her starving children. The pardoner is told to find death ... Show more content on

and the old hag then get married and are lay together for the first time. The knight is very sad and the

ugly but loyal and good, or he can have her young and fair but also coquettish and unfaithful. The
knight ponders in silence. Finally, he replies that he would rather trust her judgment, and he asks her
to choose whatever she thinks best. The hag then turns good and beautiful because the Knight left it up

  • 2. The Theory Of Legitimacy Of Political Authority Essay Through the channels of social change, there are truly only two fundamental ways to produce revolution: through either working with the system or directly contrasting the system. Historically, we can see the recurrence of both parties at the heart of action. While the point of deliberation could be an individual, a group, a governing body, or an enterprise, social forces work to see justice is properly met. This belief has withstood varying philosophical and structural systemic changes. Additionally, it is compliant with a degree of political participation. Modernly, the contractarianism that exists, the theory of legitimacy of political authority (Cudd, 2000), demands a level of democracy and tolerance. Many modern states rely upon a social contract to function. As individuals within these states seek stability, they rationalize that maintaining a certain level of morality is in their best interest, thus consenting to a government. If a group within any state contests any of the contractual obligations, a political or social movement serves to begin dialogue and negotiation. To be clear, many social movements take the form of grassroots organizing, or community organizing, which refers to the collective action of the part of a community or group in order to effect change at the local, regional, national, or international level. They empower communities whose aims can range from encouraging political conversation to increasing mass participation in politics. Despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The precursor of the Gulf War were laid down many years before the war began. Iraq always was very pugnacious with the surrounding nations. In the 1960 s a seizure of power aquired in Iraq and the Ba athist political party took power. And the controversy began to take place on whether any mistakes on his policy were the result of the war breaking out in the first place. Throughout the 1980 s America continuously kept an eye on Saddam Hussein on the long war of Iraq and Iran. The Reagan administration misconceived a favor to sale guns to the Iran contra scandal. • 5. The Chuckwallas and Evolutionary Research Ever since Charles Darwin s first publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, island habitats have been used by a number of scientists as the most efficient laboratories to observe the natural process of evolution taking place in modern day organisms. Several kilometers northeast of the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin famously performed his research, is a small group of islands in the Sea of Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico (see Figure 1 on page 18). Here many evolutionary biologists of the 20th and 21st century performed research on the insular organisms inhabiting these island habitats. One group of lizards in particular known by the common name chuckwallas has gained a lot of focus in evolutionary research. Chuckwallas is the name of organisms in the Sauromalus genus apart of the Iguanidae family. They are herbivorous lizards commonly found in the deserts of southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. Three species, in particular, are found on the islands off the cost of the mainland within the Sea of Cortés: Sauromalus obesus (= ater), Sauromalus varius, and Sauromalus hispidus (see Figure 2 on page 20). S. obesus is a common species found on the mainland as well as few islands, while S. varius are S. hispidus are endemic to specific islands in the Sea of Cortés: mainly San Esteban Island and Angel de la Guarda Island, respectively. • 7. • Explain How The Device And Procedures Support The Body... How does the device and procedures support the role of the body systems? The artificial heart supports the body just like a normal heart would, pumping blood around the body. The artificial hearts are used when the original heart is damaged and needs time to recover. The artificial heart can replace the function of the person s original heart for either a short period of time while a donor heart is being sort or for the duration of the person s life. Why is the device needed? The device is needed when a person s heart fails to operate correctly. A person needing an artificial heart would be extremely ill that is they would not be able to function like an everyday person. E.g. walking. People, who receive artificial hearts, fall into two categories being bridge or destination. The bridge group, are those people who would most likely die waiting for a suitable donor heart. This second type of heart is known as a VAD pump which pumps blood from the left ventricle to the aorta. In John Knowles A Separate Piece, Gene and Finny are two best friends who go through many hardships together as their years pass at the Devon School. All of the boys in attendance are preparing to be enlisted in the war that is going on outside of school but they each are fighting their own inside themselves. In A Separate Piece, Knowles utilizes the allegory of Finny s broken leg to represent the difficult times throughout a friendship. As Gene comes back to the Devon School fifteen years later he revisits certain sites that have important meaning to him. While he is tracing through the years he has spent there many things come to his attention that he hadn t noticed before. Ironically the idea that Napoleon was a short man is false as he was average height for his size at the time. A more useful way to look at a Napoleon complex would be to describe it as, a person who is driven by a perceived handicap to overcompensate in other aspects, in their lives. With this definition, we get what Napoleons mentality was through the course of his life. Napoleon was born into nobility but had very little power at his disposal, to put himself in a position of power he learned how to seemingly change his identity and raise himself in the ranks of the French military. Once he put himself in the most powerful position, in France he began to seek more power by conquering other countries in war and making treaties with them or absorbing them into France all together.. All this was made possible by his aggressive non stop military style and charismatic ability. Hawaii is unique because the islands are caused by a hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate, one of the largest crustal plates on earth. There are only a few hot spots on earth and they occur in an area where the plate is thin and weak creating volcanism, where molten magma ruptures the earth s crust. For Hawaii, the hot spot is under the sea floor, it creates under sea volcanoes. Over millions of years these volcanoes build up to sea level and become islands. The Stalinist Gulags are in violation of many articles, but a few are Articles 4, 5, 9, and 10. Article 4 is stated that no one shall be held in slavery, which in Gulags they are doing forced and unpaid labor. It is important to note that light existed, in both stories, independent of celestial bodies. Next, in same order, the sky and ground are created, followed by luminaries or the sun, moon and stars. With a government representing the views and will of the people, voters possess a significant responsibility that is capable of impacting the nation as a whole; but when misused or mishandled, can result in undesired repercussions. In many countries, youth are granted the ability to vote at the age of 18. However, the question of whether the voting age should be reduced to 16 has been debated nationwide for numerous years. While most individuals under the age of 18 are still in school and live with their families two factors that encourage turnout and make informed decisions (Wagner, Joahnn, Kritzinger, 2012, 372), the reasoning falls short. This is because many youth are incapable of forming their own decisions and are limited to the consent of a guardian in many aspects. • 23. Benefits Of Genetically Modified Organisms ( Gmos ) Essay Life on earth began approximately 3.5 billion years ago and, since the rapid diversification of most major living phyla (known as The Cambrian Explosion), evolution has given rise to an extraordinarily diverse range of life forms. Evolution has resulted in various species with a wide range of traits, each with the potential to be utilized by human kind. By modifying these organisms through cross breeding and artificial selection to create crops with desirable traits, the agriculture industry has found a way to produce essential food crops and a way to feed the world . In the 1970s, Morrow et al. developed a technique that allowed them to cut DNA from one organism and splice it with the DNA of another and thus modern biotechnology was born. Today, it is possible to sidestep the relatively slow process of evolution by modifying genes of plants and animals in the lab. Presently, such modifications allow for pest and herbicide resistance; faster crop production; more nutritious food sources; and even disease resistance . Despite these purported benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), there is considerable debate surrounding their use. In the public sphere, beliefs concerning GMO tend to be dominated by two markedly opposing narratives and it seems that one can only be in one of two camps: I. This paper analyzes the three main antitrust laws that the federal branch of the United States government uses to try to restrict monopolies. This paper also looks at antitrust laws in the modern business environment, and attempts to relay the information in a manner that a newcomer to the subject will understand the concept as it relates to modern technology and business practices. The findings of this paper indicate that the topic of antitrust laws is more complex than many believe and, depending on the position of the person affected by monopolies, the sentiment ranges widely. Antitrust Laws The main purpose of antitrust laws is to promote competition in the markets by preventing monopolies. They also protect consumers and other businesses from unfair business practices and collusion among companies. The thought behind this is that consumers are hurt when monopolies exist because they have fewer choices, the price is likely to be higher, and the services being provided may not be very good. The original unknown author of Beowulf writes in the Old English language and illustrates medieval times in stunning detail. Burton Raffel credibly translates ancient works of literature into a legible dialect of today s society, while obtaining many of the literary elements used in the original pieces of writing. Readers regard Beowulf as the mother poem of England. This recognition only increases the significance of Beowulf, the actual character, as an epic hero. When Beowulf is rebutting Unferth s false statements, he creates a caesura: You murdered your brothers, / Your own close kin. Words and bright wit / Won t help your soul; you ll suffer hell s fires, / Unferth, forever tormented (l. 320 23). The location of the pauses within this particular caesura produce great emotion, yet the lines contain extremely simple phrases. In addition to caesuras, Beowulf embodies a countless amount of kennings. Grendel acquires an abundance of kennings throughout the poem. Whose fault was this? Blame could be placed on the mandatory attendance at schools, or the lack of stay at home mothers, but the main culprit was the media. From the graphic images projected in movies, and the harsh language found in popular songs and intimate dances, to the new comic book series that were being printed off, media was the new tool that was molding the minds of America especially the youth. • 36. Maxim Killed Rebecca Whenever beloved books appear on screen, there are critical changes made which can be either beneficial and detrimental to the audience s response to the film. Films can either capture the entirety of a book, or change the plot so drastically it becomes reminiscent of the book. This often leads to the age old argument of whether the book or film is better. In the film interpretation of Rebecca, Hitchcock manipulates Du Maurier s intended theme of justice and judgment by altering the purpose of critical scenes, characters, and the ending of the book through the cinematography and reconstruction of key events. Rebecca is never present in the book, but has the most influential role in the story. In the book, Maxim killed Rebecca because he wanted out of her wrath; her earthly power was too much for him to bear. This portrayed him as a hurting man who seeked revenge. Hitchcock s version majorly changed this as he made Rebecca haphazardly die, changing the audience s perception on Maxim. This staged him as a victim, rather than a murderer.
