Comparing Two Leaders By Charles Schneider
This paper explores two leaders, one with strong success, and the other with less success, and
evaluating the differences and similarities between the two leaders. Charles Schneider was the COO of
eCollege, which was purchased by Pearson, from 1999 2001. Schneider left eCollege on unfavorable
terms due to his competitive and confrontational leadership style, and he has chosen to not list
eCollege in his background on either his Builder Sourcing or Mygoflight biography pages (Denver
Business Journal, 2001; Builder Sourcing, n.d.; Mygoflight, n.d.). Juxtapose this with Erika Roegies.
Roegies became a Vice President at TomTom when she was 35, and is now at Pearson (Linkedin,
n,d,). Roegies manages a team of eight five people, across three countries. When she joined Pearson,
her directive was to create a combined Program Management Organization that had been three
separate groups up until that point. Roegies accomplished this, and has driven a culture of repeatable,
and reliable. This paper compares and contrasts how each leader rose to power in their roles, their
leader and follower relationships, each leaders use of referent power with their leaders, colleagues,
and subordinates, how each leader motivated and rewards employees, as well as their self destruct
tendencies. Both leaders rose to power early in their careers. Prior to becoming the President and COO
at eCollege, Schneider was a Senior Vice President at Oracle, and prior to that a Principle at the

antagonist , doesn t let her fulfill her these goals because of their family traditions. T Each chapter is
labeled a month and we see in each month that Tita struggle to purse true love and claim her
independence. The lack of communication in the story has lead to stress, tension, disagreements , and
misunderstanding between the family members. The emotions of each character contributed to effects

Life Of The Sea s Outstretching Waters
Given the preceding events which very well could have claimed my life, I am mighty relieved to not
only scrawl out this lousy note, but to feel breath in these old lungs at all. I d once thought to go out to
sea and prod through the scattered isles; as Shakespeare found his passion in writing sonnets, I d
thought I d found my lost love in the sea s outstretching waters. A true beauty she is, dear cousin, but a
contemporary Dorcas, she is not. There is not a whim of charity about her; that, I learned aboard
Charon s chariot itself: the Pequod. When I last set foot in the Manhattoes, I do believe I d told you I d
stop at an inn before leaving in the morn. From there, I shall begin to recant the detail of my journey,
so you and I should not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The savage, on the other hand, looked the part of a vicious cannibal, with a stare that could slice
through flesh faster than the spearheads he brandished. Though in truth, he did not act in any similar
fashion, speaking little at all, as though he was saving his words for the right occasion. The two
seemed to be the strangest pair, however; throughout the remainder of the voyage, the two were joined
at the hip, wedded by the cot and eventually by the rope. The boy introduced himself to me as a
wanderer by the name of Ishmael, while his savage companion was addressed with a name native to
the Polynesian isles (though at the time of this letter, it escapes me). I asked them where they d be
headed, and it was to my great pleasure that the boy was recruited amongst the ranks of a whaling
vessel: The Pequod. The thought of hunting down the Leviathans , as the lad deferred to them, I
couldn t help but pledge my stakes. I followed both the lad and the cannibal to Nantucket, where we
encountered the vessel ready to set sail. But strange as it was, so soon as I d gotten a hold of the
recruiters, the captain was nowhere in sight. And not a soul said a word about it, even as we were set

Neurocognitive and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Kimberly Hollis PSY/410 February 3, 2015
Richard Reinsch Neurocognitive and Neurodevelopmental Disorder When it comes to neurocognitive
disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders, reaserchers have been able to diagnose symptoms of a
variety of disorders pertaining to the brain and growth development. Once knowing what the
symptoms are behaviors become noticed and there becomes a reason for certain behaviors in
individuals allowing different treatments for these disorders.. The movement to diagnose

Magnesium Research Paper
The element magnesium is a metal (alkaline earth metal) and solid at room temperature. It has a
density of 1,740 kg/m3 and it is found in nature. It s isotopes are Mg 24 (relative abundance: 78.99%),
Mg 25 (relative abundance: 10.00%), and Mg 26 (relative abundance: 11.01%). Magnesium has a
melting point of 1,202o F and a boiling point of 1,996o F. This element is a slow reacting element but
its reactivity rises with oxygen. The crystal structure of Magnesium is simple hexagonal.
Magnesium was recognized by Joseph Black as an element in 1755. But, it wasn t purified until 1808,
when Cornish chemist Sir Humphry Davy created a small electric current and created magnesium
oxide. On Earth, Magnesium is both found in the crust and mantle. This pure element can be bought at

A lack of sufficient amount of it in the body may potentially lead to the development of various
diseases and disorders. Magnesium is considered important for the functioning of the body because it
is involved in various processes such as the beating of the heart to the function of the body s muscles
and hormones. Some symptoms of magnesium deficiency are: nausea, loss of appetite, and fatigue.
The good news is that there are also effective ways to fight magnesium deficiency, and one is through
eating magnesium rich foods.
There are many interesting facts about magnesium. One of them is, China is the leading producer of
magnesium, responsible for about 80% of the world s supply. Magnesium is needed for hundreds of

Fidel Castro Rhetoric
Children are blunt in their thinking. Adults like to call this bluntness, being a matter of factly , blunt or
literal. When these children are put to the task of picking teams they will pick by who they like, who
will help the team win, or who they have a crush on. Inevitably there will be that dreaded one who is
picked last. This is North Cyprus the last to be picked but better yet they were only picked by one
country and that is Turkey.
For North Cyprus to get any good in the world the goods have to go through Turkey. The sanction of
not being allowed to trade with anyone other than Turkey has caused an import tax on all goods

Eileen Fisher Case Study Essay
|
While reading through Eileen Fisher, Repositioning the Brand, it became apparent early on that the
company s main issue was relevancy an issue that many companies face in today s market. Keeping
the company current in order to attract new customers while not abandoning already loyal customers
in the process is a huge challenge that EILEEN FISHER struggled with. For purposes of
differentiating between the company and the person, EILEEN FISHER shall refer to the company for
the duration of this analysis summary.
As a company that Fisher started from scratch, she seemed to gear the company toward making
clothes that she herself liked to wear, which is a perfectly fine business model, but only to a certain
extent. As she aged, so did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After IDEO s strategies were finalized, they were implemented during the 2009 fall season via the
STITCH project. Together, both companies decided that a holistic approach would be the best way to
revitalize the company, updating the company s advertising aesthetic, changing in store visuals and
merchandising, overhauling the website, and embracing video as a communication medium in the
process all of which helped to attract a generally younger consumer.
While Fisher herself saw the rebranding as a huge success as in store and online sales both saw large
increases after the change was implemented, the company itself saw a decent amount of backlash from
its already loyal clientele. Regular customers felt insulted at the apparent short sightedness of the
company s rebranding, stating that by creating an edgier product for a younger consumer, they were
implying that the older consumer has no edge, thereby alienating them in the process. Without an
already well established social media presence, the company had no real way of responding to the
criticisms.
Despite the negativity surrounding the brand repositioning, EILEEN FISHER continued to embrace
the change, narrowing down its potential customer base to three categories: the established woman,
the emerging woman, and the nascent woman.
The emerging woman seemed the most attractive consumer base to target,

Poverty s Impact On Education
Poverty s Impact on Education Poverty, a state of economic scarcity in which one lacks material
possessions or money, has endured in even the most vibrant and influential of cultures throughout the
world. The United States, as a country of diverse societies and cultures, demonstrates the reality of
this phenomenon. To be specific, forty five million, three hundred thousand Americans, or the
equivalent of 14.5 percent of the population, live below the poverty line. And as of 2013, the U.S.
Census Bureau concluded that 19.9% of children under the age of 18 are living in poverty. Sixty to
seventy percent of these impoverished students do not graduate, and their test scores are 10% lower
than those of their wealthier peers (Hochschild). The seemingly inevitable issue of poverty affects
many aspects of Americans lives; it is particularly detrimental to their educational opportunities. From
a cultural, historical, economical, and political standpoint, one can see how a wide variety of
perspectives reveal unique and unseen views on the issue at hand. Educational Environment The
educational environment of a student, such as one s access to a public library, ability to use a computer
or public library, or capability to ask for academic aid, can be decisive to the outcome of his or her
academic success. An advantageous, supportive environment for students can allow them to develop
to their true academic potential. However, a conflicting environment can lead to the academic

Exclusionary Rule
JR Hilcher
Professor Kramer
Criminal Law
27 February 2016
Reaction Paper on The Exclusionary Rule
The exclusionary rule is part of the American Constitution it states that evidence that had been taken
by the cops, is not admissible in the court of the American law. This precaution created to protect the
Constitution. Contrarily, this rule also states in the 5th amendment that nobody should be deprived of
life, liberty or property without the correct process of the law being used. The exclusionary rule also
explains, that thus rule is grounded throughout the Constitution and most importantly the fourth
ammendment, and was established to help citizens from being illegally searched and seizured. This
rule can also be applied to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Minimum Impact Supporters of this rule go against it because it allows many people whom are
deemed guilty to reign free A good example of this is how agents of the law could get warrant to
search and seize a known drug dealer s home, but cannot and proceed to go into that house; any
evidence they find will not be admissible in the court of law. Many people of the court say that most
of the evidence that wasn t included is allowed in Court. An example of this is, if a cop stops and
searches a person car without a warrant, and finds fire arms in the back, they can claim that the
operator of the motor vehicle had run a traffic light and the guns were seen in the car so it would be
admissible to the plain view law. Usually, cops generally change their testimony instead of changing
their actions to listen to the rules of court procedure. This rule doesn t adhere to the court s laws when
a search was the result of an error by a person who is employed in the courthouse. This is apparent in
Arizona v. Evans. In the case, argument was that the officer s actions were in good faith even though
that officer didn t have valid documentation. The Fourth Amendment was created to protect the
American people s rights from unlawful searches and seizures. Within the 4th Amendment, this rule
enforces that the privacy of US citizens should be protected in the US Constitution and of said
evidence was seized

I was raised in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Silver Spring was a diverse community, our

Charlie Davis Character Comparison
Character Comparison Essay
In the book Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow, the main character Charlie Davis and a later
mentioned character, Riley West, has many similarities because the both have gone through traumatic
experiences and has lost or has been left abandoned by the people they love. Although they both have
similarities, both characters have differences between them because Riley s way of coping through
stress of abandonment and loss is substance abuse of drugs and alcohol and Charlie s way of dealing
with it is self harm, and even after that, both characters has made it out of a distressing and destructive

Question 5 Answer. Production sharing contract is a binding contract between the government and the
company essentially stating the share of both parties to the extraction of oil or state s other natural
resources. PSA is a legal document and clearly sets out boundary to the overall extraction/production
using the state resources on immediate basis. With a PSA agreed and signed, the companies can
commercially make further agreements and dealing with other companies on the basis of its own share
of the total interest (Buryakovsky et al. 2012). Concession is termed as the grant of rights by the
government to the company. A concession differs from PSA as under concession the company is
provided the rights in return of some service to the government. For LOL, if it agrees to the
concession from the government, it will remain entitled to its entire interest and if it enters a PSA with
the government, it will have to lose certain percentage of the extraction/production, which in earlier
years might not be sufficient to recover its investment quickly. In both cases fee would have to be paid
to the government. In case of PSA, LOL would have to share its potential expenses in future years.
Under both PSA and Concession, potential risk will be borne by the contractor. LOL would lose
potential return from additional investment in future as the government would continue to get its share
in profits under PSA.

In the experiment, I set up the 24 plate well, and added each solution one by one while keeping track
of which liquid was in which well. I lit my burner with matches and started assembling my make shift
cotton toothpicks. My Q tips were plastic, so I (with gloved hands) ripped the cotton off the swab and
wrapped it around a toothpick. I then proceeded to dip the cotton in and wait a second or two before
waving it through the flame.
I noticed the color change with the sodium immediately, but with the others it took a bit longer. I
repeated the process with each liquid three times just to be sure. Especially with the Potassium, as it
was very difficult for me to discern the color change. I tried to eliminate any major errors by taking
my time and redoing the experiment a few times, but I did spill a bit of the liquid as a cut the pipets
open. Also, my swabs may have been previously contaminated by the salt on our skin due to frequent
use.

Lavender Mist Colour
. The use of colour is also differing between the two works, for Pollock s work there is a limited
colour palette, however in Benglis work there is an irrational use of contrasting colours, this allows
the sculpture to stand out and add to the three dimensional aspect of the work. The media of colour
provides a conflicting appearance as the colours in Benglis s art has a striking appearance and there is
a clear distinction between colour, this is drastically different on Pollock s Lavender Mist , as there is
a gentler approach to how colour is used for tonal and atmospheric purposes. (Klee, 1928)
In contrast to the previous two artworks, Paul Klee has undertaken an opposing technique in the
production of his work. Using contrasting materials Klee has produced his work using pencil,

Biking Down The Mountain, My Mind Was Completely Clear Essay
Speeding down the mountain, my mind was completely clear. It was a freeing feeling from the usual
chaos in my everyday life. I could just forget everything when I was on the mountains. I was carving
through the snow and enjoying the white blanketed scenery. I had been snowboarding down the slope
when the next thing I remember is waking up on a stretcher being placed into an ambulance.
I was practically raised on the slopes. Living in Connecticut meant that we were able to enjoy a nice,
snowy winter every year so understandably, my family was very much into skiing. Whenever the first
snowfall came of the year, I knew a trip to the mountains was not too far away. We took trips up to the
ski mountains in Massachusetts and Vermont numerous times throughout the winter. We often visited
Butternut Ski Mountain and after many years of staying here for the weekends, it was like a second
home to me. It was a place to escape and to spend quality time with the family that we otherwise miss
between my brother and I in school and our parents at work.
After many years of skiing, I had decided to pick up snowboarding in 2009 to try something new. It
was an exhilarating change. I loved the rush of speeding down the mountain on my board, the snow
covered trees passing by. It was fun to feel fearless every once and a while since that was usually out
of character for me. In the winter of my sophomore year of high school, I took a trip up to Butternut

judgment of others. It is true and I have witnessed firsthand the self esteem of many being cut down to
mere nothingness by the judgment of others. Is it a crime to look different, talk different or be unique

Through my examination of the New Age belief system I believe many in society see themselves as

to an overinflated ego and the harmful judgment of others? The world without doubt is an irrational
and super rational place in the universe which produces stoned thinking (Sire, 2009, p. 180) people.
With this thought in mind it is very easily to see how the harmful judgment of others becomes the
social order of the day. New Age thinking has also crept into Christianity long before it was even
thought of, namely Roman Catholicism. For years I have struggled with the concept of papal
infallibility and the pope being seen as equivalent to God himself when speaking ex cathedra
(Houdmann, n.d., para. 1). I have also wrestled with the dogmatic principles, traditions, and the
Church s judgment of other faiths and even its own pilgrims in relation to human rights and God s
own natural law. The Catholic Church is not all bad,

Talley Student Observation Paper
I decided to sit and observe in Talley Student Union at North Carolina State University. I sat in front
of the Talley Market from 6:25pm 7:03pm on Monday, April 24, 2017. During this this time, I
observed many different people walk by me and also those sitting nearby. Talley is almost always busy
during this time. Although I am inside, the weather is very rainy and dark. It has been raining all day
and almost everyone is wearing a rain jacket. A lot of people are also carrying umbrellas and wearing
some type of waterproof shoe. I would say that half of the people that crossed my path were with other
people like friends and half were by themselves. One girl that was sitting across from me had a friend

Essay about The Stalinist Terror and Sofia Petrovna
In the book Sofia Petrovna, the author Lydia Chukovskaya writes about Sofia Petrovna and her
dreadful experiences as a widowed mother during the Russian Stalinist Terror of the 1930s. There
were four basic results of the Russian Stalinist Terror: first, it was a way of keeping people in order;
second, it kept Stalin in power and stopped revolutions from forming, made people work harder to
increase the output of the economy, and separated families as well as caused deaths of many innocent
people due to false charges.
Stalin used the media in order to convince the Russian citizens that there were saboteurs and spies
within Russian population. Stalin used the secret police and military forces to carry out the arrests of

The media also expresses that the imprisonment of the spies is the right thing to do. Up with the
banner of Bolshevik vigilance, as we are taught by the genius of the leader of the peoples, comrade
Stalin! Let us root out all saboteurs, secret and open, and all those in sympathy with them (83) As
Sofia Petrovna reads the Timofeyev editorial, her boss, Timofeyev, is accusing Sofia for being a
saboteur because she had sympathy for Natasha being fired, another so called saboteur. Stalin and his
mass media propaganda persuade Timofeyev into taking part in the terror, resulting Timoteyev s belief
that what Stalin is doing is the best for the Russian country. The terror stopped revolutions from
forming because whatever groups Stalin didn t agree with he could simply arrest the members of that
group. In Timofeyev s editorial Sofia is siding with a Natasha, Natasha is thought to be a
revolutionary, because Natasha wasn t said to be loyal to the communist regime, and therefore Sofia is
accused of siding with a sabotager or revolutionary.
The terror also kept people working harder to increase the output of the economy. Movements such as
the Stakhanovite movement, squeezed greater efforts out of workers and those who fell behind usually
were accused of sabotaging. This benefited the Russian economy as they attempted to catch up to
Europe and America throughout the age of

Feral Children In Lord Of The Flies
In the Lord of the Flies the whole plot is centered around these boys who can be seen as feral children.
A feral child is a human child who has lived isolated from human contact. Most of the time these
children will have no experience regarding human care, social niceties, or language. Therefore, most
of the time these children will not be able to speak or even stand up straight. They could also be
unable to use facilities. Another problem a feral child would face is being unable to learn at a normal
speed depending on how long they were isolated this is due to their lack in interest in human activity
around them. This also causes these children to not be able to create bonds with other people. With
this, these children have little to no morals to keep them in check because they are willing to do most
anything to justify what they or someone else does. This is the same way for the island boys because
they were on their own on this deserted island with no adults to tell them what to do or what not to do.
Over the course of time these boys began to lose themselves and not even have the same morals as
they did before the plane crashed. It can be argued that the reason the boys became feral on while on

their morals from their parents and had not been in a situation where they needed to break them.
However, they are now beginning to face more impactful decisions and situations. One could also
look at it as there are now more things threatening the survival of the boys which cause them to make
riskier decisions. The choices that they choose is what makes the boys more instinctual. Not the
choices themselves but what comes out of their decision and not the situation is

Rolling A Ball Analysis
By a show of hands, how many people on hear have ever seen professional bowling on TV? Were you
curious about how they about how they were able to make the ball react down the lane? If yes, you are
one of many. Today I will explain how to manipulate your ball so that it reacts. To somebody who is
unfamiliar with the specifics of the sport, it can be difficult to comprehend all the parts of this
seemingly simple idea of rolling a ball. These parts can be broken down into three steps. These steps
are, the set up, the approach, and the release.
Those of you who have been to a bowling alley might have noticed that the flooring strips on the
approach and lanes are very narrow and inefficient, however this is by design and meant to assist the
bowler. The dots on the floor that you walk on, the arrows that are painted on the lanes, and the
narrowly cut floor boards are the equivalent to the yard markings ... Show more content on

There are two different approaches which very slightly. The two approaches are the four step and five
step approach. Both approaches should be straight, begin slowly and pick up speed with every step.
The four step starts with the bowler stepping with their dominant leg first. At the same time you begin
to move the ball, initially pushing the ball forward to straighten your arm then drawing your arm
straight back. You then alternate your steps moving towards the lane. The only variations from the
four to five step approach is that your first step is with your non dominant leg and the ball does not
begin to move until your dominant leg moves. So the ball remains still for the first step. On the last
step of your approach you will slide on your non dominant foot as you bring your arm straight
forward, all while keeping your eyes on your designated target. As you bring your arm forward you

Why I Don t Have A Home
In life, our goal is to find a place we belong. Some people find their belongingness in their craft. Some
find it in success. One may find it at their home. But for me? I don t have a home. The year is 750 AD
and I live in the capital of The Tang Dynasty(618 907), Chang an; the cultural center where you can
thrive as a person; making me part of Ancient China s Golden Age( Ancient China For Kids 6).
However, I don t feel my sense of belonging here. I m in a place I didn t ask to be in: being a young
orphan girl, trying to make a living on my own. I have no relation with the top class imperial family,
nor am I involved with any sort of aristocracy. Although, maybe if I were a man, I would be able to
study and work my way up to bureaucracy at least. However, that is not the case; I am not a eunuch
nor can I be a religious official! Therefore, I am a very low class; a peasant orphan( Tang Dynasty
Social Structure 3). I wonder who could throw me out of this helpless position. Shall I sell myself to
slavery and be the lowest of the low? But then I remember it is illegal to sell a free person into
slavery( History of Slavery in China 3). What could this mean for me then? If I am forced to be free,
what good could it be? One may have heard that women are more free in the Tang Dynasty just
because we have a woman in power, Empress Wu! Although this may be true, only women in relations
with high class or aristocracy are far more able to move up and get involved in

Directed by a fan of the musicians involved in the film, The Last Waltz is considered one of the
greatest musical films, if not the greatest, ever produced in the history of rock n roll. It features the last
concert given by a group of musicians who referred to themselves as The Band . Hence the name The
Last Waltz was given to the title of the film. Besides the concert, the viewers are enlightened with the
life experiences of these musicians through the interviews dispersed between the scenes of the concert.
In this way, the movie is created as an informative film since the interviews inform the audience of the

In the film, the director has introduced the technique of tracking shots for places presented in the
scenes. These slow moving long shots communicate to the viewers of the life back in the 1960s. At the
same time, it captures the voice of the 60 s counter culture. Clearly, in viewing the shots of the town,
the audience was provided with evidence of their lifestyles. Some were dressed in the Hippies fashion.
There were many people cuddling in groups, drinking and smoking on the streets as if they were
living the time of their life. The frequent exposures of these drugs/cigarettes in the shots and many
scenes throughout the documentary may not have been as acceptable in today s films.
On a side note, the music they listened to was closely linked to the musical influences in which The
Band had drawn their music from. Although much of the influences had come from the music genre of
country, there were other ones exhibited such as the blues (the group had invited Muddy Waters, a
legendary blues musician, as one of their guests for the concert) and folk music.
The shootings of the film were considered more artistic than that of the typical styles accounted in a
documentary. The lightings it presented were far beyond the usual expectations of a documentary.

Disadvantages Of Designer Babies
The term designer babies arouses both excitement and fear worldwide; most envision a future where
the intellect, health, and physical traits of a child can be chosen on demand, without realizing that
designer babies are actually already among us. According to Dr. Ronald Pang, a post doctoral fellow at
the University of Hong Kong, the term designer babies encapsulates both babies who were selected
for a specific gene by preimplantation genetic diagnosis and those whose embryos were genetically
modified before implantation (Pang). This paper will focus on the former type of designer babies:
those created by preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). In contrast to genetically modified
embryos, PGD does not alter DNA and instead selects an embryo for the presence of a specific gene.
PGD is offered by 74 percent of in vitro fertilization clinics, but is still a controversial technology due
to its various applications including disease diagnosis, trait selection, and sex selection (Davis). Upon
considering two major concerns surrounding PGD tampering with nature and playing God as well as
the overarching benefits and drawbacks of this technology, couples should be not be permitted to use
preimplantation genetic diagnosis to select an embryo in any circumstance.
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) uses genetic analysis technologies such as PCR, comparative
genomic hybridization, or fluorescence in situ hybridization to ultimately select an embryo based on

Direct Current (DC) Motors
1.0 Overview of DC Motors
A Direct Current (DC) motor is a broad classification of electric motors that operate from a direct
current (DC). Nearly all mechanical devices used in electric applications are powered by electric
motors. Motors transform electrical energy to mechanical energy. Thus, they are essential for energy
conversion in electrical machines. All types of electrical motors comprise a stationary field commonly
referred to as stator, and a rotating field (or rotor). According to Krishnan, (2010), the mechanism of
operation of DC motors is based on the interaction between electric current and the ... Show more

Rizzoni (2004) asserts that when electrical energy is supplied to the windings perpendicular to the
direction of the magnetic field, the flowing current and the magnetic field will interact. As a result,
mechanical energy will be produced by the magnetic field, leading to motion. Fleming s Left Hand
Rule can be used to determine the direction of the motion
Figure 1: Fleming s Left Hand Rule (Rizzoni, 2004) The direction of both the magnetic field and the
current are pointed by the first and second fingers respectively. The thumb indicates the direction in
which the conductor is pushed by effects of the magnetic field (Rizzoni, 2004).
1.3 Operation Principles of a DC Motor
In order to demonstrate the operating principles of a DC motor, this paper will focus on a coil
subjected to a magnetic field with a flux density of B (Hambley et al., 2008). When a D.C voltage is
supplied to the coil, it induces current to flow through the coil. The electric current and the magnetic
field will therefore interact and create a force that pushes the coil to move in the direction shown in
Figure 2 below.
Figure 2: Torque production in a DC motor (Hambley et al., 2008)
A practical DC motor comprises several coils wound on the rotor as shown in Figure 1. The coils are
aligned in the direction of the force that induces them to rotate. The current flowing in the coil is
directly proportional to the magnetic field produced as well as the rate

What Are The Influence Of The French Revolution
Global Influence of the French Revolution
The French Revolution is a significant event in human history. It began in 1789 and ended in the late
1790s with the triumph of Napoleon Bonaparte. During this time, the french population transformed
their country s political landscape, bringing an end to monarchy, and became a republic. Within
France itself, the revolution led to the redistribution of church property to the government and to the
people. The most major contribution of the revolution is the Declaration of Rights of Man and the
Citizen, which made all citizens equal under the law. But the revolution did not only changed
situations in France, it actually played a crucial part in changing the world to be as it is now. The

Dyeing your hair for the first time can be a wonderful experience. To avoid any disappointment, we
will be providing you some tips to avoid any unpleasant surprise for this first experience.
Buy enough dye
Depending on the length of your hair and also your desired color, you might need to purchase more
than one box of hair dye. For instance if you have shoulder length hair, you might want to ensure that
you have 3 or 4 boxes of hair dyes at hand. It is better that you have more than enough dye rather than
panicking halfway during your dyeing session.
Choose the correct formula
Not all hair dyes are created equal and it is important that you choose the one that best suits you.
People with sensitive skin might want to go for dyes that are foamier in appearance. This will ... Show

This will avoid any unnecessary strain on your hair and also minimize the amount of upkeep you
need. You can gradually go for darker colors if you want but keep it real for the first time. Also
choosing a lighter color will allow you to make corrections in case you do not like it. It is easier to
darken hair in case you do not like it.
Skin tone
When choosing a color for the first time make sure that you choose a shade that is appropriate for your
skin tone. Some people just want their hair to look like their friends without paying attention to their
own skin color. Browse the web for celebrities that have similar skin tone with you and check out their
hair color. Choose something that is appropriate and not just fashionable.
Do not wash your hair
It is easier to dye unwashed hair because the natural oil found in your scalp protect it from any harsh
chemical irritant. If you know that you are going to dye your hair soon just skip washing your hair. At
the same time, this facilitates combing which can be useful for even color distribution.

What You Should Eat Will Stir Anxiety
Life can be confusing while at the top of the food chain. For most animals, eating is simply habitual
and is a subconscious choice. Monarch butterflies eat milkweed, koalas go for the eucalyptus leaves,
and whales chow down on plankton. But we homo sapiens, hindered by a big brain and inventions
such as agriculture and industry, face a bewildering array of choices, from scrambled eggs to Chicken
McNuggets, from a bowl of fresh blueberries to the chemically complex yellow and white log of
sweet, spongy food product known as the mystical Twinkie. When you can eat just about anything
nature has to offer, Michael Pollan writes in this thoughtful, engrossing new book, The Omnivore s
Dilemma, deciding what you should eat will inevitably stir anxiety.
Nowhere is this anxiety more drastic, Pollan says, than in the United States. Wealth, abundance and
the lack of a steadying, centuries old food culture have conspired to make Americans dysfunctional
eaters. We are obsessed with getting thin while becoming ever more fat, lurching from one bogus bit
of dietary wisdom to another. Pollan diagnoses a national eating disorder, and he aims to shed light on
both its causes and some potential solutions. In order to achieve this, he embarks on four separate
eating adventures, each of which starts at the very beginning in the soil from which the raw materials
of his dinners will emerge and ends with a cooked, finished meal.
These meals are, in order, a McDonald s repast consumed by

Two Levels of Meaning in Cathedral
The short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver develops characters with a dualistic depth. On the
surface they have believable human attitudes and attributes, but there is also a level functioning that
offers another interpretation. Carver is not only creating a realistic human picture, he uses the old story
of the deliverer and reworks it into something unique, fresh. He takes the characters and binds them in
the mind of his readers in a way that leads one to feel as though there is a deeper level to his message.

dialogue the reader s view of him is the opposite that of the narrator this is emphasized by their
separate relation to the woman in the story. She becomes the object from which the two men illustrate
their approaches to life. The blind man opens himself up to her words, thoughts, feelings and

The poem that she writes about her experience with Robert is dismissed by her husband, I can

Platelets Play a Large Role in Tissue Regeneration and...
Unlike other blood cells, platelets are small anucleate structures derived from marrow megakaryocytes
and thought for almost a century to possess solely hemostatic potentials. Platelets, however, play a
much wider role in tissue regeneration and repair and interact intimately with tumor cells.
On one hand, tumor cells induce platelet aggregation [TCIPA] known to act as the trigger of cancer
associated thrombosis and on the other, recruited to the tumor microenvironment platelets interact
directly with tumor cells favoring their proliferation and indirectly through the release of a wide
palette of growth factors, angiogenic and mitogenic proteins. The role of platelets is not only confined
to the primary tumor site. They escort tumor cells helping their intravasation, vascular migration and
extravasation to the tissues forming distant metastasis.
As expected, non specific or specific inhibition of platelets and their contents represents an attractive
approach in the fight against cancer.
The current review illustrates the role played by the platelets at primary tumor sites and in the various
stages of the metastatic process.

A Summary Of The Lansdowne Athlete
December 6, 2017
Ancient sculptures bring on endless philosophical arguments regarding what is an appropriate form of
perfection, defined as a fit body guided by a keen mind. This paper will approach a visual essence of
the sculpture of The Lansdowne Athlete, by Lysippos, Rome 340 330 B.C. marble after a bronze
original, that I viewed at the LACMA. This sculpture is located in the left wing of Greek exhibition
Building, 3rd floor. I selected this sculpture as an example of an idealized body. Therefore, I will be
explaining the historical background of the sculpture and address why I think it would make a good
addition to our text. I will provide an analogy with other sculpture of idealized body from our
textbook chapter 12 on Mind and Body mainly. I will impart more information about the essence of
idealized human form as well as cultural ideals during this time period in Greece.
The Lansdowne Athlete at the LACMA is an example of a well developed ideal body and carefully
controlled proportions to all body parts. This sculpture is a Roman copy of an original by Lysippos
made in the 1st century. It is a marble statue of 75inches in height. The figure is in the contrapposto
stance common of the style at the time and is taking a step forward. The figure still has integrity even
though it has a few missing parts. Its face, which is important, is more or less intact and the standing

Essay On Effects Of Discipline On Children
Spanking has a positive effect on children
For many years parents have been disciplining their children in various ways. Discipline is required to
train a child in doing what is right and staying away from what is wrong and dangerous. Discipline has
always been used in order for the child not to grow up spoiled and choosy. Giving children what they
want always is never a good thing, while teaching them that they cannot have everything teaches them
patience. Discipline is very critical in a child s life because it is a determining factor on how that child
is going to turn out in the future. People will always relate bad parenting to a child s bad behaviour
and good parenting to a good behaviour. So how must parents discipline in order ... Show more

The researchers also found out in a survey that 30% of parents believed that spanking was not harmful
to their children, 60% believed it harmful to their children, only 10% believed it would lead to severe
problems. These statistics raise a startling flag when you think of the nature of this form of correction.
Parents should be learned about how their form of discipline affects their child because punishment
does not have a sense of discipline as the only outcome. Sometimes children are less responsive to a
certain form of discipline than others. It cannot be helped that a child is unique and different from
others. The child is also a factor in terms of discipline and punishment it is not solely dependent on
his/her parent and the way they discipline. There are other alternatives to punishing the children for
their bad behavior. Less severe punishment besides spanking. They can take away their television
privileges, computer use, and playing outside with their friends, they could ground them for the

conversation is a conversation where emotions run strong and the stakes are high. I have experienced
many of them this year. One reason for this is because I am a senior in high school and am about to
undergo a serious transition that will change my life. For most people deciding on a college is a
difficult issue. It takes money, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually, I get it out during football or working out, but the football season is over and I cannot work
out every day because of the strict system I am following as of now. I have also learned not to let
negative emotions settle inside; I have to get them out. I cannot let the toxicity be built up inside and
slowly take away health. No football I have begun to use a new way of displacement: Boxing. I have
invested in a pair of Everlast boxing gloves and a heavy bag. This has proven to be one of the best
monetary investments of my life. Anytime I get frustrated or even bored I go to my garage and just
punch it out. I am positive it is drastically healthier than keeping my emotions housed inside my body.
All in all these conflict management techniques have effectively reinforced the positivity in my life.
The more people who become exposed to these lessons, the better a place the world becomes. The best
part about it is that anybody who is willing to utilize these skills can utilize them. Everyone can learn

The Birth of Human Ethics and Death of the Physical Body...
The Birth of Human Ethics and Death of The Physical Body
Living our life is about being happy, but often we misunderstand the meaning of happiness. In
understanding the nature of living well and happiness philosophical systems, such as Confucianism
and Epicureanism, can play important roles to explain the notion of happiness. Confucianism
embraces ethical principles and behaviors in making one s life organized within a collective society to
attain happiness. On the other hand, Epicureanism expresses the ideas behind death that often
becomes the barrier to our happiness. Epicureans also suggest possible mechanisms in understanding
the truth of death that help people gain happiness in life. Both systems coincide in excluding the

The passion of the heart is necessary as much as the physical presence of the descendants. Along with
respecting the ancestors, people should also show responsibility and care in respecting their living
parents. Confucius proposes that the behavior conducted toward one s parents must be gentle. The
master said:
In serving your parents you may gently remonstrate with them. However, once it becomes apparent
that they have not taken your criticism to heart you should be respectful and not oppose them, and
follow their lead diligently without resentment. (109)
Therefore, Confucius is suggesting that people can oppose their parents gently. However, parents
denial of their child s proposition must also be accepted respectfully by the child. Such rigid
construction of responsibilities is comprehensible because Confucianism merged in a collective
society where the cooperation among people was strongly valued to maintain well beings of each
other.
The righteousness and ethical values that Confucius suggests are defined by the quality that makes
someone outstanding and fills their heart with goodness. The goodness is obtained through the virtue
ethics elements of behaving well. Confucius said:
Zai Wo was sleeping during the daytime. The master said, Rotten wood cannot be carved, and a wall
of dung cannot be plastered. As for Zai Wo, what would be the use of reprimanding him? The master
added, At first when evaluating people, I would listen to their

Brideshead Revisited Religion
In his bestselling book, Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn Waugh portrays the Catholic religion in several
different lights. Some of the characters are faithful Catholics who adhere strictly to the law and letter
of Catholicism. Others find the Catholicism restrictive and quickly discard it as old fashioned . While
some parts of the book are clearly Catholic, others are not as apparent and could even be perceived as
anti Catholic. However, beneath the overarching storyline, Waugh illustrates the Communion of
Saints, portraying different attributes of the Church in Purgatory, on Earth, and in Heaven in his
characters. Julia s free spirited, love thirsty character symbolizes the Church Suffering. Typical of the
modern individual, Julia searches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is tempted by evil portrayed in Anthony Blanche, who is charming and likable, but also perverted
and deceptive. In the book s prologue, Charles is an officer in the British army in World War II.
Likewise, in the story of his life, he is a soldier , fighting his way through temptation on the search for
truth and love. As a young man, he is indifferent to the Catholic Church. However, as he ages, he
realizes that drinks, friends, parties, and even love cannot bring him true and lasting peace. Charles
starts his search for something more. As we begin to seek, we have already been found. states Bishop
Barron in his homily, A Master Class in Evangelization. For a long time, Charles is reluctant to accept
that the Catholic Church is the source of truth. Nevertheless, at the end of the book, he finds himself
again in the Marchmain chapel. Suddenly, he discovers the peace and truth he has been searching for
all his life. The very thing which he had been avoiding all his life, the Catholic Church, was truly what
he was searching for! This realization gives him so much joy that it is externally visible as a fellow

Role Of India s Success As A Self Governing Country
Change for the Better Although India has been controlled by foreign rulers for centuries the people of
India have decided they no longer will stand by and be governed by an outside source. The British
Governor Generals have proposed a constitution for India saying it is the best plan for a free India;
however they are wrong. There are several issues which can be detrimental to India s success as a self
governing country. The British need to stop treating the people of India as children, by telling them
what they need, and instead let them decide for themselves. One issue in the constitution proposed is
the lack of a national judicial system. Another is the income of the national government is based upon
the provinces and therefore there is no way to enforce the standards the national government sets. An
additional issue is the weaknesses of a decentralized government. While there are several other minor
issues, the biggest issue of all is the English Rights Clause. Although the national government controls
the judicial standards, there is no national judicial branch to be able to do so. With a national judicial
branch, cases from the provincial level can be appealed and reviewed at a national level. This will help
to regulate standards of punishments to the crime committed. As stated in the constitution, [i]t is the
job of the decentralized governments to determine what is and is not the severity of the crime. The
provinces should be able to create laws and the penalties

Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia
Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia
Cesi Salmeron
Suny Rockland Community College
Abstract
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood
cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported
throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are
African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a
result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of
sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In
this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with
sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs.
What is sickle cell anemia?
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is
characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result,
abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or
crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of
oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one
copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch,

Comparing J. Gordon Edwards And Richard Burton
During the twentieth century, more than twelve directors tried their hand at interpreting one of history
s greatest love stories. Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of
themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film
starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and
Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demille s version of the
tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike.
However, below the surface of Claudette Colbert s shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies
another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences
and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s.
This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc
Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold
lamé dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure
hugging gown remind the audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of
1930s Hollywood. The ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s. Several of Madeleine
Vionnet s designs feature both a ruched front and mermaid bottom, which may have served as

Comparing Two Leaders By Charles Schneider This paper explores two leaders, one with strong success, and the other with less success, and evaluating the differences and similarities between the two leaders. Charles Schneider was the COO of eCollege, which was purchased by Pearson, from 1999 2001. Schneider left eCollege on unfavorable terms due to his competitive and confrontational leadership style, and he has chosen to not list eCollege in his background on either his Builder Sourcing or Mygoflight biography pages (Denver Business Journal, 2001; Builder Sourcing, n.d.; Mygoflight, n.d.). Juxtapose this with Erika Roegies. Roegies became a Vice President at TomTom when she was 35, and is now at Pearson (Linkedin, n,d,). Roegies manages a team of eight five people, across three countries. When she joined Pearson, her directive was to create a combined Program Management Organization that had been three separate groups up until that point. Roegies accomplished this, and has driven a culture of repeatable, and reliable. Eileen Fisher Case Study Essay | While reading through Eileen Fisher, Repositioning the Brand, it became apparent early on that the company s main issue was relevancy an issue that many companies face in today s market. Keeping the company current in order to attract new customers while not abandoning already loyal customers in the process is a huge challenge that EILEEN FISHER struggled with. For purposes of differentiating between the company and the person, EILEEN FISHER shall refer to the company for the duration of this analysis summary. Together, both companies decided that a holistic approach would be the best way to revitalize the company, updating the company s advertising aesthetic, changing in store visuals and merchandising, overhauling the website, and embracing video as a communication medium in the process all of which helped to attract a generally younger consumer. While Fisher herself saw the rebranding as a huge success as in store and online sales both saw large increases after the change was implemented, the company itself saw a decent amount of backlash from its already loyal clientele. Regular customers felt insulted at the apparent short sightedness of the company s rebranding, stating that by creating an edgier product for a younger consumer, they were implying that the older consumer has no edge, thereby alienating them in the process. Without an already well established social media presence, the company had no real way of responding to the criticisms. Despite the negativity surrounding the brand repositioning, EILEEN FISHER continued to embrace the change, narrowing down its potential customer base to three categories: the established woman, the emerging woman, and the nascent woman. • 11. Poverty s Impact On Education Poverty s Impact on Education Poverty, a state of economic scarcity in which one lacks material possessions or money, has endured in even the most vibrant and influential of cultures throughout the world. The United States, as a country of diverse societies and cultures, demonstrates the reality of this phenomenon. To be specific, forty five million, three hundred thousand Americans, or the equivalent of 14.5 percent of the population, live below the poverty line. And as of 2013, the U.S. Census Bureau concluded that 19.9% of children under the age of 18 are living in poverty. Sixty to seventy percent of these impoverished students do not graduate, and their test scores are 10% lower than those of their wealthier peers (Hochschild). The seemingly inevitable issue of poverty affects many aspects of Americans lives; it is particularly detrimental to their educational opportunities. From a cultural, historical, economical, and political standpoint, one can see how a wide variety of perspectives reveal unique and unseen views on the issue at hand. Educational Environment The educational environment of a student, such as one s access to a public library, ability to use a computer or public library, or capability to ask for academic aid, can be decisive to the outcome of his or her academic success. Minimum Impact Supporters of this rule go against it because it allows many people whom are deemed guilty to reign free A good example of this is how agents of the law could get warrant to search and seize a known drug dealer s home, but cannot and proceed to go into that house; any evidence they find will not be admissible in the court of law. Many people of the court say that most of the evidence that wasn t included is allowed in Court. An example of this is, if a cop stops and searches a person car without a warrant, and finds fire arms in the back, they can claim that the operator of the motor vehicle had run a traffic light and the guns were seen in the car so it would be admissible to the plain view law. Usually, cops generally change their testimony instead of changing their actions to listen to the rules of court procedure. This rule doesn t adhere to the court s laws when a search was the result of an error by a person who is employed in the courthouse. This is apparent in Arizona v. Evans. In the case, argument was that the officer s actions were in good faith even though that officer didn t have valid documentation. With a PSA agreed and signed, the companies can commercially make further agreements and dealing with other companies on the basis of its own share of the total interest (Buryakovsky et al. 2012). Concession is termed as the grant of rights by the government to the company. I could just forget everything when I was on the mountains. I was carving through the snow and enjoying the white blanketed scenery. I had been snowboarding down the slope when the next thing I remember is waking up on a stretcher being placed into an ambulance. I was practically raised on the slopes. Living in Connecticut meant that we were able to enjoy a nice, snowy winter every year so understandably, my family was very much into skiing. Is it a crime to look different, talk different or be unique in our own special way? Through my examination of the New Age belief system I believe many in society see themselves as being the Lord of their own universe (Sire, 2009, p. 179) and I wonder does this flawed thinking lead to an overinflated ego and the harmful judgment of others? Therefore, most of the time these children will not be able to speak or even stand up straight. They could also be unable to use facilities. Another problem a feral child would face is being unable to learn at a normal speed depending on how long they were isolated this is due to their lack in interest in human activity around them. • 30. Disadvantages Of Designer Babies The term designer babies arouses both excitement and fear worldwide; most envision a future where the intellect, health, and physical traits of a child can be chosen on demand, without realizing that designer babies are actually already among us. According to Dr. Ronald Pang, a post doctoral fellow at the University of Hong Kong, the term designer babies encapsulates both babies who were selected for a specific gene by preimplantation genetic diagnosis and those whose embryos were genetically modified before implantation (Pang). This paper will focus on the former type of designer babies: those created by preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). In contrast to genetically modified embryos, PGD does not alter DNA and instead selects an embryo for the presence of a specific gene. PGD is offered by 74 percent of in vitro fertilization clinics, but is still a controversial technology due to its various applications including disease diagnosis, trait selection, and sex selection (Davis). Upon considering two major concerns surrounding PGD tampering with nature and playing God as well as the overarching benefits and drawbacks of this technology, couples should be not be permitted to use preimplantation genetic diagnosis to select an embryo in any circumstance. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) uses genetic analysis technologies such as PCR, comparative genomic hybridization, or fluorescence in situ hybridization to ultimately select an embryo based on the presence or ... Direct Current (DC) Motors Student s Name University Course Code Date of Submission Direct Current (DC) Motors 1.0 Overview of DC Motors A Direct Current (DC) motor is a broad classification of electric motors that operate from a direct current (DC). Nearly all mechanical devices used in electric applications are powered by electric motors. Motors transform electrical energy to mechanical energy. Thus, they are essential for energy conversion in electrical machines. All types of electrical motors comprise a stationary field commonly referred to as stator, and a rotating field (or rotor). According to Krishnan, (2010), the mechanism of operation of DC motors is based on the interaction between electric current and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rizzoni (2004) asserts that when electrical energy is supplied to the windings perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field, the flowing current and the magnetic field will interact. As a result, mechanical energy will be produced by the magnetic field, leading to motion. Fleming s Left Hand Rule can be used to determine the direction of the motion Figure 1: Fleming s Left Hand Rule (Rizzoni, 2004) The direction of both the magnetic field and the current are pointed by the first and second fingers respectively. The thumb indicates the direction in which the conductor is pushed by effects of the magnetic field (Rizzoni, 2004). 1.3 Operation Principles of a DC Motor In order to demonstrate the operating principles of a DC motor, this paper will focus on a coil subjected to a magnetic field with a flux density of B (Hambley et al., 2008). When a D.C voltage is supplied to the coil, it induces current to flow through the coil. The electric current and the magnetic field will therefore interact and create a force that pushes the coil to move in the direction shown in Figure 2 below. Figure 2: Torque production in a DC motor (Hambley et al., 2008) A practical DC motor comprises several coils wound on the rotor as shown in Figure 1. Within France itself, the revolution led to the redistribution of church property to the government and to the people. The most major contribution of the revolution is the Declaration of Rights of Man and the Citizen, which made all citizens equal under the law. Monarch butterflies eat milkweed, koalas go for the eucalyptus leaves, and whales chow down on plankton. But we homo sapiens, hindered by a big brain and inventions such as agriculture and industry, face a bewildering array of choices, from scrambled eggs to Chicken McNuggets, from a bowl of fresh blueberries to the chemically complex yellow and white log of sweet, spongy food product known as the mystical Twinkie. When you can eat just about anything nature has to offer, Michael Pollan writes in this thoughtful, engrossing new book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, deciding what you should eat will inevitably stir anxiety. Nowhere is this anxiety more drastic, Pollan says, than in the United States. Wealth, abundance and the lack of a steadying, centuries old food culture have conspired to make Americans dysfunctional eaters. We are obsessed with getting thin while becoming ever more fat, lurching from one bogus bit of dietary wisdom to another. Pollan diagnoses a national eating disorder, and he aims to shed light on both its causes and some potential solutions. In order to achieve this, he embarks on four separate eating adventures, each of which starts at the very beginning in the soil from which the raw materials of his dinners will emerge and ends with a cooked, finished meal. Unlike other blood cells, platelets are small anucleate structures derived from marrow megakaryocytes and thought for almost a century to possess solely hemostatic potentials. Platelets, however, play a much wider role in tissue regeneration and repair and interact intimately with tumor cells. On one hand, tumor cells induce platelet aggregation [TCIPA] known to act as the trigger of cancer associated thrombosis and on the other, recruited to the tumor microenvironment platelets interact directly with tumor cells favoring their proliferation and indirectly through the release of a wide palette of growth factors, angiogenic and mitogenic proteins. The role of platelets is not only confined to the primary tumor site. They escort tumor cells helping their intravasation, vascular migration and extravasation to the tissues forming distant metastasis. As expected, non specific or specific inhibition of platelets and their contents represents an attractive approach in the fight against cancer. Role Of India s Success As A Self Governing Country Change for the Better Although India has been controlled by foreign rulers for centuries the people of India have decided they no longer will stand by and be governed by an outside source. The British Governor Generals have proposed a constitution for India saying it is the best plan for a free India; however they are wrong. There are several issues which can be detrimental to India s success as a self governing country. The British need to stop treating the people of India as children, by telling them what they need, and instead let them decide for themselves. One issue in the constitution proposed is the lack of a national judicial system. Another is the income of the national government is based upon the provinces and therefore there is no way to enforce the standards the national government sets. An additional issue is the weaknesses of a decentralized government. While there are several other minor issues, the biggest issue of all is the English Rights Clause. Although the national government controls the judicial standards, there is no national judicial branch to be able to do so. With a national judicial branch, cases from the provincial level can be appealed and reviewed at a national level. This will help to regulate standards of punishments to the crime committed. Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia Cesi Salmeron Suny Rockland Community College Abstract Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs. What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demille s version of the tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike. However, below the surface of Claudette Colbert s shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s. This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold lamé dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure hugging gown remind the audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of 1930s Hollywood. The ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s.
