The generation effect refers to the experimental findings that when the subject is asked to generate
all/part of the stimulus the item is always remembered better than the stimulus that the subject only
read (Slamecka Graf). That is the information that the subject generates/creates by oneself is
remembered better compared to the information they only read. Results show that in all the cases,
the performance in generation condition was superior to that in read condition. Using a repeated
measures design, subjects were exposed to 2 levels (conditions, namely, read condition and generate

Abstract
The overstimulation of GABA inhibitory receptors in the hippocampus has been found to obstruct
spatial learning and memory. Ethanol was administered to male Swiss Webster mice in low and
high doses in order to test its pharmacological effects on memory. The Morris water maze
experiment was conducted as the experimental basis of understanding ethanol s capacity to inhibit
and/or suppress cognition, specifically memory in the hippocampus. Three individually marked,
male, 47 day old Swiss Webster mice per 5 groups were used to conduct the Morris water maze
experiment. The average time spent in the water amongst all 3 experimental groups decreased post
injection; with the 10% ethanol treated mice having the best memory recall. There were a few
factors that may have contributed to the surprising results of the experiment, such as a small sample
size and varying tolerance levels. Understanding the role of GABA and glutamate in cognition can

Biotechnology is technology based on living organisms. It harnesses cellular and biomolecular
processes to develop technologies or products which are immensely useful to mankind.
Biotechnology modifies living organisms according to our needs. Humans have employed this
tool in the fields of agriculture, food industry and medicine for more than 6000 years. We see
numerous biotechnological applications in our every day life. Preparation of food products like
bread, cheese and preservatives in dairy products are all outcomes of this great scientific tool
(Biotechnology Industry Organization).
Modern biotechnological research has created wonders for mankind. It has provided products to
combat rare diseases, vaccines for untreatable diseases, food for the hungry and a safer, cleaner
environment to our planet.
Biotechnology has played a vital role in reducing the green house effect and in producing a cleaner
planet. Because of the worldwide economic and environmental concerns regarding the use of petro
chemicals, extensive research has been conducted on residual biomass. Significant progress has
been made in the field of lignocellulose biotechnology. Lignocellulosic waste materials have been
used in the production of bio fuels, enzymes, chemicals, the pulp and paper, animal feed and

Bilingual Language Learners ( Ell ), And Students
A. Introduction
There are so many diverse student groups in the United States. Two that are really of interest to me
are English language learners (ELL), and students in foster care. Though they have many
similarities, they are also vastly different.
A.1. Definition and Demographics
ELL students are either students whose first language is not English or who were raised speaking
another language in their home. ELL students made up about 9% of public school students in the
United States during the 2014/2015 school year, which equals out to about 4.5 million students!

This all falls under linguicism. This discrimination based on language is not only a severe
challenge for ELL students, but also incredibly unfair. As people who speak English as our first
language it s easy to take advantage of that privilege, but we need to give those who do not speak
English as their first language the same respect that we would want if we were learning another
language in a surrounding that was foreign to us.
A.3.a. Strategy for ELL Students
Growing up in an incredibly diverse area, I completely overestimate the availability of ESL
(English as a second language) and ELL teachers. Because all ELL students do not have access to
such help, educators can do well to make a personal effort to reach out to their ELL students. By
making a personal effort to connect with ELL students, educators can better understand how to help
them get the most out of their education. Giving them special attention will not only help them
succeed but also make them feel more comfortable and welcome. Educators could go above and
beyond by making special copies of homework assignments for students that feature both English
and the students first language. This way they will no doubt understand what is being asked of
them, but also learn new words at the same time! Another way educators could show a personal

Women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military Some argue that women should
not serve in combat because; they have never served in any type of combat operations in the history
of the American military. Positions in the military have been designed specifically for women and

significantly. Homo Sapiens have grown from 3 to almost 6 feet (average), lost most of the body
hair, became leaner and adapted to walking. Humans have come a long way, from Australopithecus
to Homo sapiens, from living in trees to living in cities. Slowly, through hundreds of thousands of
years, we mutated over and over again, natural selection ensuring that no destructive mutations
continue. From the slow evolution, four distinctive species emerged and died out, each giving way
