Essay On Why I Want To Be A Doctor
Mr. Flueckiger? exclaimed Mr. Freeborn. He had been the monotone teacher of my freshman biology
class and then my AP Biology class after that. I woke with a start. His lecture on genetics had been a
perfect melody for my post lunch nap.
Yes? I responded. The anxiety of fighting dragons in dream was nothing compared to this.
I asked, What is the probability that two parents, who are both carriers for Phenylketonuria, have two
children both afflicted with the disease?
I spent the entire night before reading ahead in my AP Biology book, finishing the chapter on genetics.
Obnoxiously, I retorted, If both parents are carriers, the probability one child will have the disease is
one in four. To have two children, both afflicted with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an intern, I collaborate with the thirty nine operations run by Purdue Dining Catering (PD C). The
most ambitious project I have planned and executed was PD C s orientation program, Jumpstart.
Jumpstart is a program I have both participated and mentored in during my time at Purdue. The
summer between my sophomore and junior year I had the opportunity to plan this event involving
over 100 employees. This event allowed me the opportunity to leave my comfort zone and strengthen
my time management and planning skills. It also presented me with more hands on leadership
experience while running the program logistics.
A physician interacts with people of many skill sets, backgrounds, ethnicities, and levels of education.
His or her ability to communicate effectively and work in a team are defining factors of his or her
success. I have had the opportunity to work with many different individuals through my roles as an
undergraduate teaching assistant (TA), a Student Supervisor for PD C, and in research. The different
modes of communication and teamwork that each required taught me valuable skills that translate
directly to the medical field. As a TA, I could not only do something I loved, teach, but also learn
about communication in an educational environment. I learned how to communicate material in a way
that effectively reached students with different educational requirements. As a Student Supervisor, I

Enkidu And Gilgamesh
Often times power comes in many forms strength is a kind of power. Since Gilgamesh has no match in
regards to strength that makes him superior. Superior meaning, the highest being that rules overall.
Gilgamesh meets someone who also has the same strength him. The person was Enkidu, who was sent
down from the gods. In the beginning of their friendship, both bumped heads a lot, until they realized
that they both had equal strength. Besides Enkidu it was no one else who had the same strength as
him. The two of them was like Batman and Robin, until Enkidu dies. We witnessed the transformation
of Gilgamesh s heroic indifference to death.... said by Tzvi Abush. I agree with this statement because
The Death of Enkidu had a big impact on Gilgamesh and also his power. The death of Enkidu made
Gilgamesh open his eyes more. I guess you can say that Gilgamesh humbled himself way more.
Instead of being this Ideal hero to his community or city, he decides opening up to being a normal
person with some type of hierarchy. He became somebody who can accept things for how they are.

Over time, computers have evolved tremendously due to inventors working with different devices.
Even before history was recoded, people used handheld counting and computing aids. Today, with our
modern technology, people use computers called laptops and even other handheld devices such as
IPads and even a cell phone. Over history, computers have evolved in order to fulfill the needs of
today s society and better serve people. My paper will explore the creation and usage of each device,
beginning with Manual calculators, looking at mechanical calculators, computer prototypes,
generations of computers and ending with personal computers. Before history was recorded by pen
and paper, people used counting aids like pebbles to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mechanical calculators came on the scene shortly after the slide rule was developed. Instead of
needing the operator to apply algorithms to perform calculations as was the case with manual
calculators, a mechanical calculator implemented algorithms autonomously. The operator entered the
numbers for the calculations and pulled a lever/turned a wheel and the calculation would be carried
out. Mechanical calculators were developed in 1623, one of them was called Shickard s calculator,
which contained a series of interlocking gears. It had ten spokes and each spoke on a gear represented
a digit. Each time that the gear made one complete revolution, it moved on to the next gear which was
one notch to the left in order to carry the one . Moving on to 1642, Blaise Pascal developed what was
known as the pascaline. A pascaline was a mechanical device that was used for both addition and
subtraction as well as division and multiplication. Gottfried Whilhelm von Leibniz created a similar
calculator in 1673. In 1820, however, Thomas de Colmar s Arithmometer was the first mass produced
mechanical calculator. Soon, calculators wouldn t need human power in order to operate. In 1822,
Charles Babbage created plans for a device that would be called the Difference Engine that would run
only on steam power. It was made to rapidly and accurately calculate large tables of numbers that were
used for engineering and astronomical applications. The blueprints for the Difference Engine

Barrio Rising Book Report
Barrio Rising is a book about urban popular politics and the making of modern Venezuela. It portrays
the democracy and violence in Venezuela between the 1950s and the Bolivarian Revolution of 1998.
People who lived during these times protested about the unfair treatment they received from the
government. They acted out in violence, guerilla warfares, and protesting. Their main goal, in these
communities, was to have their voices heard and their demands met to their standards.
In the 1950s, Marcos Pérez Jiménez, the president, modernized Venezuela by building dozens of
superblocks in the capital, Caracas. These buildings housed several thousands of poor people without
jobs, health care, utilities, etc. With the unfinished business of dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez, who
was overthrown on January 23, 1958, citizens rushed to occupy each ... Show more content on

Most people voted to show their political opinion in the 1960s, but there were people who were
making themselves visible by utilizing guerilla warfare to try to get their message, government
accountability, across. People have expectations of the government, and they are acting out by voting
or through violent actions. They wanted power of the people, a democracy. At the height of the
protests the interim government had moved to suspend rights of speech and of assembly, an ironic first
act following the democratic revolution s first elections (Page 97). Citizens began to protest and hijack
the government which led to brutal massacres. The people demanded water and a clean environment,
which involved the picking up of their trash on the streets. They wanted better living conditions and
job opportunities. Even though this city was built on farm land and not stable for factories, they

Comparing Levitt And Dubner s Freakonomics
Freakonomics has a tone that is very casual and humorous, almost sarcastic in a way. Levitt and
Dubner make the book interesting by making wild comparisons. Then, they justify these comparisons
with hard evidence and it is quite amazing. Levitt and Dubner s casual attitude is seen in almost every
part of the book. For example, take this quote: The problem with crack dealing is the same as in every
other glamour profession: a lot of people are competing for a very few prizes (Levitt and Dubner, pg.
103). This strange way of regarding to crack dealing as a glamour profession is a perfect portrayal of
how these authors are very laidback and casual about what they have to say. They are not sugarcoating
anything, nor are they being firm and

He called Martin Luther to appear before the assembly and to either renounce or reaffirm his views.

Luther Said Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not
trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and
contradicted themselves), I am bound by the scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to

me. Amen.
After the assembly Charles V made a decree (edict of worms) which stated We forbid anyone from
this time forward to dare, either by words or by deeds, to receive, defend, sustain, or favour the said
Martin Luther. On the contrary we want him to be apprehended and punished as a notorious heretic, as
he deserves, to be brought personally before us, or to be securely guarded until those who have
captured him inform us, where upon we will order the appropriate manner of proceeding against the
said Luther. Those who will help in his capture will be rewarded generously for

Political Parties And Its Influence On The Political Party
Since the founding of our country and the government we live by, political parties have been present.
These parties have had many influences on our government from their formation. Some of these
influences that the parties have had were good, other were bad. Within our modern government,
parties, have become a major impact and have had much influence. These parties are present to push
their agendas and accomplish what they can through their influence on the government. The affect that
these parties have had on our government can be seen through their influence on the three branches of
government; the Executive branch, the Legislative branch, and the Judicial Branch. Political parties
have a massive influence on the Executive branch, or the president. The two party political system is
the fore ground of our modern presidential elections. This system determines the two major candidates
that the country ultimately chooses from for the presidency, either Republican or Democrat. As the
American Government textbook states the political parties kept a tight control on the selection of a
candidate (Krutz 454). This excerpt from the American Government textbook shows that the influence
the party system has on the Executive branch is so great that it goes as far as to choose the candidates
that the country gets to vote for. The party chooses the candidates for the presidential election by
holding primary elections where multiple people are put out for the states to vote, the

German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940 1945) The United Nations Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is committed to conserving and protecting the
naturally and culturally significant sites of the world. A world heritage site is a place that is culturally
or environmentally significant to the world. The World Heritage Convention, adopted by the General
Conference of UNESCO in 1972, puts together both the preservation of nature and the preservation of
sites that are culturally significant to society. The idea for this convention came after UNESCO was
involved in rescuing the Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt. The building of the Aswan High Dam
threatened to flood the valley and destroy the ancient temple. UNESCO launched an international
campaign to save the temple and the temple was eventually dismantled, moved, and reassembled in a
location safe from flooding. Fifty countries donated to the campaign, raising nearly half of the cost of
the operation. The convention was adopted a few years later so that the states parties could join
together to protect the world s natural and cultural heritage. The convention also provides access to the

The Importance Of Cultural Literacy
Cultural literacy is not a well known word in today s society but being culturally literate is essential to
be an active participant in one s nation. Cultural literacy is the ability to understand a culture enough
to be able to participate in it actively. In modern society, a large portion of Americans, especially in
the younger generations, are not culturally literate and this poses a problem for the future of our
community and our economy.
Often fads are the defining points of recent cultural changes for example in the 70 s the hippie
movement was a defining portion of American culture and even global culture. If someone did not
understand that reference in that time, they would be unable to follow media, news, and possibly even
everyday interaction. By examining the economic trends of manias, one seeks to gain a deeper
understanding of how they affect our culture on a deeper level. As the very nature of fads is to have an
unexplained and short lived popularity predicting economic trends of crazes is very nearly impossible
to do accurately although there have been attempts to model fads (Plott and Smith). This can have a
devastating effect on the economy and at the very least severely hurt individual investors. When the
demand for certain fads becomes uncontrollable, they may cause an economic bubble to form. A
financial bubble is when the price of an object dramatically outweighs its actual value (Singh) an
example of this is the demand for twinkies during the Hostess

The Meaning Of The Word Profession
Across academia, scholars debate the meaning of the word profession. The term invokes many
connotations and expectations, but few can agree on an actual meaning.1 Geoffrey Millerson, a
prominent sociologist, defined profession as a type of higher grade, non manual occupation, with both
subjectively and objectively recognized occupational status, possessing a well defined area of study or
concern and providing a definite service, after advanced training and education. 2 According to
Millerson s definition, the United States Army is in fact a profession.
Millerson identifies the first component of a profession as higher grade, non manual occupation .
Many academics agree that a key component of a profession is specialized skill based on a body of
knowledge.3 Initially, many will contend that the U.S. Army does not pass the first requirement.
Soldiers work long and hard often completing tasks requiring physical strength and endurance. At first
glance, the composition and mission of the military undermines the definition of a profession.
Obviously, the military relies on a certain amount of physical labor to complete its mission. However,
the military is also composed of personnel who manage and direct the employment of assets to
strategically, operationally, or tactically defeat the enemy. The knowledge required to employ those
capabilities offsets the physical labor necessary to accomplish the task. The army requires officers to
be educated and to fulfill

Life s Little Treasures Preschool
Philosophy Statement
At Life s Little Treasures Preschool, we believe that play is a fundamental part of your child s
upbringing, and recognise that there is a symbiotic relationship between place, learning and
development (Fleer, 2013, p. 184), which is greatest supported through our natural environments and a
sociocultural philosophy of Early Childhood Education inspired by Lev Vygotsky (Berk, 2006).
Our preschool s outdoor play area provides limitless opportunities for your children to learn through
play, whilst acquiring respect and an appreciation for nature and their environment, working towards
and achieving all five Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Outcomes (Australian Department of
Education, Employment and Workplace, [ADEEW] , 2009)
At our center we strongly encourage both family and community members to actively involve
themselves in our outdoor play areas as much as they can. This in turn will help with the development
of your child s sense of belonging, being and becoming (ADEEW, 2009) which is vital for growth and
development formation but in addition willl also strengthen their play experience, feeling of wellbeing
and overall learning (Australian Children s Education Care Quality Authority [ACECQA, 2013,
standard 6).
Child Safety
Keeping children safe in our outdoor learning area is a top priority. All children have the right to
experience high quality education and care, in a learning environment that provides for their

Producing a quality product, whether a tangible item or a service, is the goal of all organizations, how
this goal is achieved will be the challenge. Quality of the end product has been an obstacle in America
for decades. In the post World War II era as production of products in America rose, the quality of
those products diminished. At the same time other countries such as Japan were not experiencing the
same quality issues.
The secrete to successful quality control was in the method of product management the Japanese were

How TQM Applies to Loma Linda University Medical Center
I am a respiratory therapist at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). The hospital is very
proud of the respected reputation which has been earned by the high quality of care provided. In one
aspect, the quality management is similar to traditional management styles, with regards to each
employee is responsible for delivering high quality care. A deeper look will reveal a TQM approach
by the administrators and management at all levels.
The most obvious TQM is the establishment of guidelines for the alignment of the organization to
achieve the standards set forth by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). The JCAHO was developed to provide guidelines for healthcare organizations to provide
safe, quality patient care. All healthcare institutions must meet these guidelines in order to have the
opportunity to provide care for patients. These guidelines extend from how oxygen tanks are stored to
how often employees receive in services, continuing educations, and tested for basic skills.

Self-Moralism And Social Criticism In Jane Addams
Jane Addams wanted the mind of women to be valued and mirrored through the actions of individuals
seeking to use emotions of empathy and feeling of duty rather than self interest. She joined the
growing pool of criticism of Social Darwinism not because of its scientific weaknesses, but rather due
to its center principal of anti morality. She refused to accept its masculine ideals of physical
dominance to serve self interest and its ranking of materialism. Without doubt, one of her most
stringent and remembered points of social criticism was targeted at paternalism. She routinely exposed
the motives behind 19th century philanthropists who attempted to do good to people rather than to do
good with them . Once again, her target of criticism is the male centered way of thinking that was
pertinent in her time, due to the fact that it was overwhelmingly focused on placing oneself ahead of
another person and attempting to force yourself onto them because you feel that your way of handling
the situation is better than those who are experiencing the hardship you are attempting to amend in the
first place. She wanted less of a paternal mindset and more of a maternal one that is categorized by
empathetic collaboration instead of domination. Addams viewed new groups of immigrants as a
welcomed force into urban American society. Her ideology on race, which can be described as
pluralist, was fitting toward a strategy of reform that took aim at socioeconomic conditions that were

The blue whale is the largest animal ever to have lived on Earth; it is larger than any of the dinosaurs.
The biggest recorded blue whale was a female in the Antarctic Ocean that was 30.5 m long (more than

weight of 144 tonnes (almost the same as 2,000 men). The tongue alone of a blue whale can weigh as
much as an elephant and an entire football team could stand on it!

Management Styles Throughout the World
Running head: MANAGEMENT STYLES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
Management Styles throughout the World
Tambra Sullivan
Minot State University BADM 535
Abstract
A management style is a leadership method used by a manager. As diverse as cultures are throughout
the world, so are management styles. A key value underlying the American business system is
reflected in the notion of a never ending quest for improvement. The prevailing question is can it be
done better? (Roa, 2010). In other cultures, the strength and power of those in command rest on the
premise that the status quo demands stable structure. (Roa, 2010). Researchers debate whether it is
organizational or ethnic culture that is predominant. In today s business environment, ... Show more

It can create an environment of fear and resentment, leading to high turnover and absenteeism. It can
also stifle creative ideas and limit fresh ideas. (Kisner, 2011). Of all the management styles, this one is
the only one that lends itself toward a tendency for abuse by the manager. Some managers take their
role to extreme, belittling and humiliating employees by yelling or reprimanding them in public. It is
also the least likely management style to show praise for a job well done, instead opting for
reprimands for mistakes made.
Democratic
Democratic leadership solicits input from others. (Bateman Snell, 2009). This type of manager is open
to the opinions of others and welcomes their contribution in the decision making process. (Democratic
Leadership, 2010). For this management style to work successfully, robust communication between
the managers and the subordinates is a must. It is best used when making decisions on complex
matters where a range of expert advice and opinion is required. An advantage with this style, since
employees are involved in the decision making process, they are more committed to the desired
outcome. Another advantage is it creates a collaborative environment, often resulting in more
thorough solutions to problems. (Democratic Leadership, 2010). Many employees report that they find
this work environment enjoyable and experience a

Memorial Hall Essay
Memorial Hall
When walking through Boston s renowned Harvard Yard, one may scope out the mixture of
architecture throughout its landscape. From the traditional Memorial Hall influenced by Romanesque
churches, to the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard Yard is like a salad bowl of architecture.
Perhaps because I am a lover of Victorian style structures, or maybe because of its interior s beauty
and richness, Memorial Hall intrigued my interest most of all.
Memorial Hall, which was originally a civil war monument, is now a theater and student union for
Harvard University. The 19th century architects Robert Ware and Henry Van Brunt designed this
building to resemble the Victorian Gothic Romanesque churches of the time. ... Show more content on

This window also allows a colorful light inside the memorial of the building. The interior of Memorial
Hall differs from the gothic structures that the building resembles from the outside. While gothic
structures were composed mostly of stone, Memorial Hall is decorated with walnut. The vaulting,
which traditionally would be made of stone, is made of wood. There is a repeated use of the rosette,
trefoil, quatrefoil, and cross motifs that help connect the exterior with the interior of the building.
These details are found in the wood carvings of Sanders Theater, the great transept doors, the
sandstone frieze that surrounds the exterior, the columns and wrought iron gates, the buttress, the
stained glass windows, and the chandeliers. Also there is ornamental ironwork that outlines the roof if
Sanders Theater and crowns the four subsidiary towers. Another feature of Memorial Hall that
captures the mood of its exterior is the layout of the remaining original furnishings throughout the
building. The materials used to construct the interior and exterior of Memorial Hall create a defined
space in which the building captivates.
When I walked through Memorial Hall I became instantly drawn into the structure. The marble floors,

Then there is the outside leg, which is when going in a circle, the farthest leg from the center. One way
to move across the ice do what is called the duck walk . First, bend your knees and point your toes out.
Next, while keeping your toes out, step forward, and push out a little. Then glide between each step.
Once you have picked up some speed, put both feet side by side and glide. Putting your feet side by

Another way to move forward is the swizzles. To do the swizzles there are three steps: the bend, push,
and recovery. First, start out with your feet together and your toes pointed out (Foeste 47). Next do a
deep knee bend and begin to push out with your skates (Foeste 47). After that, push out with both
skates, which should push you forward (Foeste 48). Then turn your toes toward each other and begin
to bring your legs together to return to the starting position (Foeste 48). This is called the recovery

off a thin layer of ice. This should make a little pile of snow. Practice this with both feet. One way to

Reflection Paper On The Movie Precious
After speaking with my classmate, the film I choose to watch was Precious because she gave it a
glowing review and highly recommend it. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I have
personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited interactions
I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I asked my
girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available after
removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent movie
that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she saw the
movie several years ago, she recalled that the film evoked many strong emotional responses which
made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision of which
movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced a wide range
of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example, I was frustrated
when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home and informed both
of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling her stupid, asking if she
thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. Also, I was frustrated when the mother
forced Precious to overeat when Precious did not prepare the mother s dinner

Maury F. Dieterich was appointed the new managing director of GM (K). Mr. Dieterich had been the
financial director for three years prior to this, and he was therefore already well known by the local
staff. Mr. Dieterich, as managing director, is a member of the board of GM (K), which is presently
chaired by Mr. Bernard Hinga. Mr. Hinga and most directors are Kenyans. Company Objectives
Discussing the production capacity of GM (K), Mr. Dieterich recently reported that the Nairobi plant
was operating with only one shift (It has a three shift potential) and forecast production at 2,300 units
approximately 60% of the capacity of one shift (E.g. 800 medium duty trucks, 600 light duty trucks,
500 pick ups, 300 utility vehicles and 100 buses). This is reportedly a 50% increase over last year s
level of production. Utilizing a greater proportion of the production capacity would help GM (K) to
fulfill a national goal of providing more jobs. Mr. Dieterich also stated that GM (K) had a
responsibility to its customers and to the public to continually improve the quality and safety of its
products to meet both strict international and GMC parent company standards, and to maintain high
levels of service. In short, he stated that it is service and quality that really sells products. Finally, Mr.
Dieterich said that he would follow his predecessor s example of an open door policy

The Persecution And Assassination Of Jean Paul Marat
In The Persecution and Assassination of Jean Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum
of Charenton under the Direction of the Marquis De Sade, Peter Weiss placed a historic revolutionary
setting inside of a chaotic insane asylum. Sex and violence dominate revolution, madness blends with
reason, and political ideologies battle head to head while the plot unfolds. Marat/Sade focuses on a
play authored by the Marquis de Sade inside of the play itself. Weiss, writing in the voice of Sade,
could not ignore the sexual perversions of the historical figure, which allowed for the shocking
violence and sexualization that can be found within the play. Under the inflated political rhetoric
among the two leading ideologists, Jean Paul Marat and the Marquis de Sade, the story is one about
the French Revolution. Specifically, Marat/Sade tells the story of the murder of Marat by Charlotte
Corday.
Sade s characterization of Corday as the sexualized female begins with the Herald s introduction of
her. His description predominately includes her physical features. Her phenomenally pulchritudinous
appearance includes stylish shoes and a cloth around her neck. Only a thin veil covers her otherwise
exposed breasts. These images appear in the first introduction of Corday and create conflict for the
woman portraying her, as well as affect Sade s character of Corday in her carrying out of the plot to
kill Marat. However, the effect on the latter is not a negative one. The sexual

The Obesity Epidemic
Introduction The World Health Organization defines being overweight or obese as abnormal or
excessive fat accumulation that may impair an individual s state of health. One asks themselves, how
being overweight or obese can be measured? Measuring or classifying an individual of being
overweight or obese can be done by measuring an individual s body mass index or BMI. BMI is an
index that classifies individuals to determine if they are either underweight, normal weight,
overweight or obesity. BMI can be easily calculated by an individual s weight in kilograms divided by
the square of individual s height in meters (kg / m^2). According to the World Health Organization, an
individual is classified by BMI, in the following order: underweight = 18.5, normal weight = 18.5
24.9, overweight = 25 29.9, obesity = 30. BMI is useful to measure population because it is
standardized in both sexes and all ages in adults. According to the WHO, overweight and obesity is
the fifth leading risk global deaths. Being overweight or obese can lead to diabetes, osteoarthritis,
cardiovascular diseases (heart disease, stroke) and certain cancers (endometrial, breast and colon).
Epidemiologists and others in respect fields have figured out the causes that lead to being overweight
or obese. The main cause s an energy imbalance between calories consumed and calories expended.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the WHO have seen that globally an increased
intake of energy dense foods

Buell. He had a far different battle plan in mind. Apparently, he thought he could tell the President of

Highly Sensitive Research Paper
A highly sensitive person has high sensitivity to the world around them. High sensitivity, also called
sensory processing sensitivity, is a completely normal trait that affects between 15 to 20% of the
population, or 1.4 billion people, according to experts on the subject.
People can have a lot of success despite being highly stimulated by the world around them. For
example, Alanis Morissette has openly talked about how she is a highly sensitive person and often felt
misunderstood and misperceived, but that hasn t stopped her from doing some great things in this
world.
It s interesting that being highly sensitive is not limited to humans. Biologists have discovered this
trait in over 100 species, including dogs, horses, and even birds.
We tend to use the term highly sensitive person as a bad label for someone. For instance, we might

They See And Feel The Beauty In Life More Intensely
Many people who are highly sensitive have an appreciation for music, art, love, and joy that people
who are not don t feel. The thought of something beautiful, like true love, can bring tears to their eyes
and resonate deeply into their soul.
People who are highly sensitive find that they are moved by the beauty of nature. The trees, the
mountains, the rivers, the oceans, and the animals in nature all touch a chord in them that makes them
feel love, peace, and gratitude more intensity.
Moreover, they notice the subtle things in life more, such as the little flower that goes unnoticed by
other people. They cherish those little things, and they are the people who inspire others to stop and
smell the roses!
4. They Have Deeper Conversations And Interactions With Others
People who are highly sensitive find it easier to talk about important things. They may not find small
talk, such as the weather, that important. But, when they hear about something that has some deeper
meaning about life, love, or emotions, they are more likely to participate in the

Mexican country would begin to see a positive output in the country, it would be short lived and
Mexico would continue to fall behind as other countries progressed. While In the Shadow of the

The director of the movie Whale Rider, Niki Caro has included that movie is a realistic representation
of Maori traditional culture. In the movie Whale Rider, the filmmaker has shown how traditions can
separate and connect people. The director has used camera techniques, sound effects and mise en

Camera technique:
In the movie whale Rider, different types of camera techniques are used. This movie is about a girl
named paika who rides a whale just like her ancestor did. Different camera angles are used in this
scene. There are many close ups in this scene. The filmmaker used close up shots when paika goes to
the big whale and try to touch it. Koro, paikea s grandfather doesn t let her touch the whale because he
thinks this all happened because of her. This is how people can separate because of their traditions.
Extreme long shots are used when people try to drag the whale back into the water and they fail. The

Mrs Bennet Married In Today s Society
In the 19th century, it was a common practice for families to marry off their daughters for wealth and
security rather than love. Mrs. Bennet, a character who lives in that century wanted her daughters to
get married so that she can live a secure and comfortable life. However, as time progress people
viewed marriage as a way to express one s feeling towards each other. Fewer people relied upon
marriage as a way of boosting their status. And eventually, many western cultures and societies today
adopted the concept of marrying for endearment rather than security. If Mrs. Bennet lived in today s
society it becomes difficult for her to get integrated due to the way her character is portrayed, and how
little regards she has for her daughters.

They worry about the things they do, and the people they associate themselves with. We eventually
understand and come to appreciate them. In Mrs. Bennet s case, financial security and status outweigh
her daughters. When Mrs. Bennet first hears about Jane s invitation to Mr. Bingley s home
(Netherfield Park) she tells Jane to go on horseback (Austen 26). Knowing that the rain will make
Jane severely sick, she disregards it and proceeds with her scheme. From this, it shows Mrs. Bennet as
a selfish person. She hardly ever considers her daughter s well being unless it benefits her financially.
Some argue that Mr. Bennet s eventual death caused Mrs. Bennet to risk Jane s health. It makes sense
because if Mr. Bennet dies, then Mrs. Bennet loses her comfortable lifestyle. On the other hand, most
people that read this novel and delve deep into Mrs. Bennet s character understand that her actions
remain inexcusable. Her irresponsible actions show that she is desperate to keep her high status.
Moreover, her disregard for Jane shows that she is not suited to be a mother. Overall, Mrs. Bennet s
actions throughout the novel reveal that she will only cause more trouble in our society than help

The Negative Effects Of Ocean Acidification
Ocean Acidification is an incredibly important topic that has not been addressed toughly by
mainstream media. It is causing ocean warming, mass extinction of fish species, coral bleaching,
phylogenic changes in ocean populations, and many more negative consequences. I did my senior
project on coral bleaching due to ocean acidification and there has been little new information on the
subject, in the public sector, since then. According to a study done in 2016 a strong link between
seawater pH and coral calcification is supported by data the pH of the coral calcifying fluid (CCF) is
elevated relative to the surrounding seawater pH, and that acidification of the surrounding seawater
causes a reduction in pH of the CCF (Edmunds et al., 2016). The Great Barrier Reef has been in crisis
for at least a couple decades because of severe coral bleaching and calcification. In the last couple
years, large sections of the reef have died because of changing environmental conditions. The situation
is similar in many of the coral reefs around the planet. Ocean Acidification will continue to have
monumental lasting negative effects on the environment unless drastic changes are made to the way
humanity is using our natural resources.
Ocean Acidification occurs when the ocean uptakes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the
resulting chemical reactions make the water more acidic. According to the NOAA When carbon
dioxide (CO2) is absorbed by seawater, chemical reactions occur that

In 1992 a black man by the name of Rodney King was beaten extensively by police for speeding. The
officers did not serve time in jail, which was the straw that broke the camel s back. Many blacks living
in Los Angeles at this time took part in violent riots to show the US they would not take the abuse
anymore. Year after year, uprising after uprising, African Americans are promised to be seen as equal
to whites, given equal opportunities and be provided equal rights. However, things have still yet to
change. African Americans have been victims of oppression and have suffered immensely for nothing
other than existing. They are disregarded as being last on the social pyramid by the police, schools,

  • 2. Essay On Why I Want To Be A Doctor Mr. Flueckiger? exclaimed Mr. Freeborn. He had been the monotone teacher of my freshman biology class and then my AP Biology class after that. I woke with a start. His lecture on genetics had been a perfect melody for my post lunch nap. Yes? I responded. The anxiety of fighting dragons in dream was nothing compared to this. I asked, What is the probability that two parents, who are both carriers for Phenylketonuria, have two children both afflicted with the disease? I spent the entire night before reading ahead in my AP Biology book, finishing the chapter on genetics. Obnoxiously, I retorted, If both parents are carriers, the probability one child will have the disease is one in four. To have two children, both afflicted with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an intern, I collaborate with the thirty nine operations run by Purdue Dining Catering (PD C). The most ambitious project I have planned and executed was PD C s orientation program, Jumpstart. Jumpstart is a program I have both participated and mentored in during my time at Purdue. The summer between my sophomore and junior year I had the opportunity to plan this event involving over 100 employees. This event allowed me the opportunity to leave my comfort zone and strengthen my time management and planning skills. It also presented me with more hands on leadership experience while running the program logistics. A physician interacts with people of many skill sets, backgrounds, ethnicities, and levels of education. His or her ability to communicate effectively and work in a team are defining factors of his or her success. I have had the opportunity to work with many different individuals through my roles as an undergraduate teaching assistant (TA), a Student Supervisor for PD C, and in research. The different modes of communication and teamwork that each required taught me valuable skills that translate directly to the medical field. As a TA, I could not only do something I loved, teach, but also learn about communication in an educational environment. I learned how to communicate material in a way that effectively reached students with different educational requirements. As a Student Supervisor, I worked with students from all over ... • 3. Enkidu And Gilgamesh Often times power comes in many forms strength is a kind of power. Since Gilgamesh has no match in regards to strength that makes him superior. Superior meaning, the highest being that rules overall. Gilgamesh meets someone who also has the same strength him. The person was Enkidu, who was sent down from the gods. In the beginning of their friendship, both bumped heads a lot, until they realized that they both had equal strength. Besides Enkidu it was no one else who had the same strength as him. The two of them was like Batman and Robin, until Enkidu dies. We witnessed the transformation of Gilgamesh s heroic indifference to death.... said by Tzvi Abush. I agree with this statement because The Death of Enkidu had a big impact on Gilgamesh and also his power. The death of Enkidu made Gilgamesh open his eyes more. I guess you can say that Gilgamesh humbled himself way more. Instead of being this Ideal hero to his community or city, he decides opening up to being a normal person with some type of hierarchy. He became somebody who can accept things for how they are. Enkidu and Gilgamesh relationship started off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But all in all, Gilgamesh was a special character. He, Gilgamesh was a man god . It was believed that Gilgamesh was half human and also half god. Beings though he was a man god, he was seen differently, he was also treated in a way like no other.Gilgamesh, was held with way much more respect. Even before history was recoded, people used handheld counting and computing aids. Today, with our modern technology, people use computers called laptops and even other handheld devices such as IPads and even a cell phone. Over history, computers have evolved in order to fulfill the needs of today s society and better serve people. My paper will explore the creation and usage of each device, beginning with Manual calculators, looking at mechanical calculators, computer prototypes, generations of computers and ending with personal computers. Before history was recorded by pen and paper, people used counting aids like pebbles to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mechanical calculators came on the scene shortly after the slide rule was developed. Instead of needing the operator to apply algorithms to perform calculations as was the case with manual calculators, a mechanical calculator implemented algorithms autonomously. The operator entered the numbers for the calculations and pulled a lever/turned a wheel and the calculation would be carried out. Mechanical calculators were developed in 1623, one of them was called Shickard s calculator, which contained a series of interlocking gears. It had ten spokes and each spoke on a gear represented a digit. Each time that the gear made one complete revolution, it moved on to the next gear which was one notch to the left in order to carry the one . Moving on to 1642, Blaise Pascal developed what was known as the pascaline. A pascaline was a mechanical device that was used for both addition and subtraction as well as division and multiplication. Gottfried Whilhelm von Leibniz created a similar calculator in 1673. In 1820, however, Thomas de Colmar s Arithmometer was the first mass produced mechanical calculator. Soon, calculators wouldn t need human power in order to operate. In 1822, Charles Babbage created plans for a device that would be called the Difference Engine that would run only on steam power. It was made to rapidly and accurately calculate large tables of numbers that were used for engineering and astronomical applications. The blueprints for the Difference Engine ... • 5. Barrio Rising Book Report Barrio Rising is a book about urban popular politics and the making of modern Venezuela. It portrays the democracy and violence in Venezuela between the 1950s and the Bolivarian Revolution of 1998. People who lived during these times protested about the unfair treatment they received from the government. They acted out in violence, guerilla warfares, and protesting. Their main goal, in these communities, was to have their voices heard and their demands met to their standards. In the 1950s, Marcos Pérez Jiménez, the president, modernized Venezuela by building dozens of superblocks in the capital, Caracas. These buildings housed several thousands of poor people without jobs, health care, utilities, etc. With the unfinished business of dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez, who was overthrown on January 23, 1958, citizens rushed to occupy each ... Most people voted to show their political opinion in the 1960s, but there were people who were making themselves visible by utilizing guerilla warfare to try to get their message, government accountability, across. People have expectations of the government, and they are acting out by voting or through violent actions. They wanted power of the people, a democracy. At the height of the protests the interim government had moved to suspend rights of speech and of assembly, an ironic first act following the democratic revolution s first elections (Page 97). Citizens began to protest and hijack the government which led to brutal massacres. The people demanded water and a clean environment, which involved the picking up of their trash on the streets. They wanted better living conditions and job opportunities. Even though this city was built on farm land and not stable for factories, they wanted available job ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing Levitt And Dubner s Freakonomics Freakonomics has a tone that is very casual and humorous, almost sarcastic in a way. Levitt and Dubner make the book interesting by making wild comparisons. Then, they justify these comparisons with hard evidence and it is quite amazing. Levitt and Dubner s casual attitude is seen in almost every part of the book. For example, take this quote: The problem with crack dealing is the same as in every other glamour profession: a lot of people are competing for a very few prizes (Levitt and Dubner, pg. 103). This strange way of regarding to crack dealing as a glamour profession is a perfect portrayal of how these authors are very laidback and casual about what they have to say. They are not sugarcoating anything, nor are they being firm and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He called Martin Luther to appear before the assembly and to either renounce or reaffirm his views. 5 Luther Said Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen. After the assembly Charles V made a decree (edict of worms) which stated We forbid anyone from this time forward to dare, either by words or by deeds, to receive, defend, sustain, or favour the said Martin Luther. On the contrary we want him to be apprehended and punished as a notorious heretic, as he deserves, to be brought personally before us, or to be securely guarded until those who have captured him inform us, where upon we will order the appropriate manner of proceeding against the said Luther. • 11. Political Parties And Its Influence On The Political Party Since the founding of our country and the government we live by, political parties have been present. These parties have had many influences on our government from their formation. Some of these influences that the parties have had were good, other were bad. Within our modern government, parties, have become a major impact and have had much influence. These parties are present to push their agendas and accomplish what they can through their influence on the government. The affect that these parties have had on our government can be seen through their influence on the three branches of government; the Executive branch, the Legislative branch, and the Judicial Branch. Political parties have a massive influence on the Executive branch, or the president. The two party political system is the fore ground of our modern presidential elections. This system determines the two major candidates that the country ultimately chooses from for the presidency, either Republican or Democrat. As the American Government textbook states the political parties kept a tight control on the selection of a candidate (Krutz 454). This excerpt from the American Government textbook shows that the influence the party system has on the Executive branch is so great that it goes as far as to choose the candidates that the country gets to vote for. The party chooses the candidates for the presidential election by holding primary elections where multiple people are put out for the states to vote, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A world heritage site is a place that is culturally or environmentally significant to the world. The World Heritage Convention, adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1972, puts together both the preservation of nature and the preservation of sites that are culturally significant to society. The idea for this convention came after UNESCO was involved in rescuing the Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt. The building of the Aswan High Dam threatened to flood the valley and destroy the ancient temple. UNESCO launched an international campaign to save the temple and the temple was eventually dismantled, moved, and reassembled in a location safe from flooding. Fifty countries donated to the campaign, raising nearly half of the cost of the operation. • 13. The Importance Of Cultural Literacy Cultural literacy is not a well known word in today s society but being culturally literate is essential to be an active participant in one s nation. Cultural literacy is the ability to understand a culture enough to be able to participate in it actively. In modern society, a large portion of Americans, especially in the younger generations, are not culturally literate and this poses a problem for the future of our community and our economy. Often fads are the defining points of recent cultural changes for example in the 70 s the hippie movement was a defining portion of American culture and even global culture. If someone did not understand that reference in that time, they would be unable to follow media, news, and possibly even everyday interaction. By examining the economic trends of manias, one seeks to gain a deeper understanding of how they affect our culture on a deeper level. As the very nature of fads is to have an unexplained and short lived popularity predicting economic trends of crazes is very nearly impossible to do accurately although there have been attempts to model fads (Plott and Smith). This can have a devastating effect on the economy and at the very least severely hurt individual investors. When the demand for certain fads becomes uncontrollable, they may cause an economic bubble to form. A financial bubble is when the price of an object dramatically outweighs its actual value (Singh) an example of this is the demand for twinkies during the Hostess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Meaning Of The Word Profession Across academia, scholars debate the meaning of the word profession. The term invokes many connotations and expectations, but few can agree on an actual meaning.1 Geoffrey Millerson, a prominent sociologist, defined profession as a type of higher grade, non manual occupation, with both subjectively and objectively recognized occupational status, possessing a well defined area of study or concern and providing a definite service, after advanced training and education. 2 According to Millerson s definition, the United States Army is in fact a profession. Millerson identifies the first component of a profession as higher grade, non manual occupation . Many academics agree that a key component of a profession is specialized skill based on a body of knowledge.3 Initially, many will contend that the U.S. Army does not pass the first requirement. Soldiers work long and hard often completing tasks requiring physical strength and endurance. At first glance, the composition and mission of the military undermines the definition of a profession. Obviously, the military relies on a certain amount of physical labor to complete its mission. However, the military is also composed of personnel who manage and direct the employment of assets to strategically, operationally, or tactically defeat the enemy. The knowledge required to employ those capabilities offsets the physical labor necessary to accomplish the task. The army requires officers to be educated and to fulfill ... Self-Moralism And Social Criticism In Jane Addams Jane Addams wanted the mind of women to be valued and mirrored through the actions of individuals seeking to use emotions of empathy and feeling of duty rather than self interest. She joined the growing pool of criticism of Social Darwinism not because of its scientific weaknesses, but rather due to its center principal of anti morality. She refused to accept its masculine ideals of physical dominance to serve self interest and its ranking of materialism. Without doubt, one of her most stringent and remembered points of social criticism was targeted at paternalism. She routinely exposed the motives behind 19th century philanthropists who attempted to do good to people rather than to do good with them . Once again, her target of criticism is the male centered way of thinking that was pertinent in her time, due to the fact that it was overwhelmingly focused on placing oneself ahead of another person and attempting to force yourself onto them because you feel that your way of handling the situation is better than those who are experiencing the hardship you are attempting to amend in the first place. She wanted less of a paternal mindset and more of a maternal one that is categorized by empathetic collaboration instead of domination. Management Styles Throughout the World Running head: MANAGEMENT STYLES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD Management Styles throughout the World Tambra Sullivan Minot State University BADM 535 Abstract A management style is a leadership method used by a manager. As diverse as cultures are throughout the world, so are management styles. A key value underlying the American business system is reflected in the notion of a never ending quest for improvement. The prevailing question is can it be done better? (Roa, 2010). In other cultures, the strength and power of those in command rest on the premise that the status quo demands stable structure. Some managers take their role to extreme, belittling and humiliating employees by yelling or reprimanding them in public. It is also the least likely management style to show praise for a job well done, instead opting for reprimands for mistakes made. Democratic Democratic leadership solicits input from others. It is best used when making decisions on complex matters where a range of expert advice and opinion is required. An advantage with this style, since employees are involved in the decision making process, they are more committed to the desired outcome. Sex and violence dominate revolution, madness blends with reason, and political ideologies battle head to head while the plot unfolds. Marat/Sade focuses on a play authored by the Marquis de Sade inside of the play itself. Weiss, writing in the voice of Sade, could not ignore the sexual perversions of the historical figure, which allowed for the shocking violence and sexualization that can be found within the play. Under the inflated political rhetoric among the two leading ideologists, Jean Paul Marat and the Marquis de Sade, the story is one about the French Revolution. • 33. Mrs Bennet Married In Today s Society In the 19th century, it was a common practice for families to marry off their daughters for wealth and security rather than love. Mrs. Bennet, a character who lives in that century wanted her daughters to get married so that she can live a secure and comfortable life. However, as time progress people viewed marriage as a way to express one s feeling towards each other. Fewer people relied upon marriage as a way of boosting their status. And eventually, many western cultures and societies today adopted the concept of marrying for endearment rather than security. If Mrs. Bennet lived in today s society it becomes difficult for her to get integrated due to the way her character is portrayed, and how little regards she has for her daughters. Austen s ... In Mrs. Bennet s case, financial security and status outweigh her daughters. When Mrs. Bennet first hears about Jane s invitation to Mr. Bingley s home (Netherfield Park) she tells Jane to go on horseback (Austen 26). Knowing that the rain will make Jane severely sick, she disregards it and proceeds with her scheme. From this, it shows Mrs. Bennet as a selfish person. She hardly ever considers her daughter s well being unless it benefits her financially. Some argue that Mr. Bennet s eventual death caused Mrs. Bennet to risk Jane s health. It makes sense because if Mr. Bennet dies, then Mrs. Bennet loses her comfortable lifestyle. On the other hand, most people that read this novel and delve deep into Mrs. Bennet s character understand that her actions remain inexcusable. Her irresponsible actions show that she is desperate to keep her high status. Moreover, her disregard for Jane shows that she is not suited to be a mother. Overall, Mrs. Bennet s actions throughout the novel reveal that she will only cause more trouble in our society than help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Negative Effects Of Ocean Acidification Ocean Acidification is an incredibly important topic that has not been addressed toughly by mainstream media. It is causing ocean warming, mass extinction of fish species, coral bleaching, phylogenic changes in ocean populations, and many more negative consequences. I did my senior project on coral bleaching due to ocean acidification and there has been little new information on the subject, in the public sector, since then. According to a study done in 2016 a strong link between seawater pH and coral calcification is supported by data the pH of the coral calcifying fluid (CCF) is elevated relative to the surrounding seawater pH, and that acidification of the surrounding seawater causes a reduction in pH of the CCF (Edmunds et al., 2016). The Great Barrier Reef has been in crisis for at least a couple decades because of severe coral bleaching and calcification. In the last couple years, large sections of the reef have died because of changing environmental conditions. The situation is similar in many of the coral reefs around the planet. Ocean Acidification will continue to have monumental lasting negative effects on the environment unless drastic changes are made to the way humanity is using our natural resources. Ocean Acidification occurs when the ocean uptakes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the resulting chemical reactions make the water more acidic. According to the NOAA When carbon dioxide (CO2) is absorbed by seawater, chemical reactions occur that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
