Human Papillomavirus Research Paper
The role of Human papillomavirus (HPV) as a necessary cause of cervical and other genitoanal
cancers has been established based on epidemiological and molecular research (1). HPV vaccines
targeting high risk HPV types 16 and 18, and low risk types 6 and 11 have been demonstrated as
protective against persistent infection, and hence carcinogenesis (2).
Introduction
Sexually transmitted infection with Human papillomavirus (HPV) is very common, with
approximately 50% of sexually active women having at least one HPV infection in the first 5 years
following the initiation of sexual activity (3). HPV infection is considered necessary, though not
sufficient, in order to develop cervical cancer. Evidence shows that almost all cervical cancers contain
HPV DNA, and that the attributable risk of infection for cervical cancer is higher than that of smoking
and lung cancer (6). Despite HPV being most commonly associated with cervical cancer, the virus is
capable of causing a number of cancers and benign lesions of the genitoanal region in both men and
women (4, 5). There are over 100 different genotypes of HPV based on the gene coding for the L1
capsid protein, of which can be further classified into either high risk oncogenic types, or low risk
types (1, 5) . Of those considered high risk, HPV 16 and 18 are the ... Show more content on

Infection occurs during sexual intercourse where abrasion of the squamous epithelium of the genital
tract exposes the underlying basal keratinocytes, allowing deposition of the HPV virus and invasion
into the cells (7). Despite HPV infection being common, the majority of individuals (around 90%) are
able to establish an immune response and effectively clear the infection within 2 years (5, 7). Those
individuals who are unable to clear infection of a high risk HPV genotype are at risk of the
development of pre cursor lesions and if untreated, invasive carcinoma (5,

Black Culture And The Black Experience
Introduction
It is said that seeing is believing but that depends on the source vision . If one does not experience first
hand they see through another medium which is often film and television. Film is one of the reasons
black culture and the black experience is misunderstood and filled with fabricated beliefs. African
Americans have been involved in Hollywood films since film earliest forms in the early 20th century.
In these early films African Americans was showed in a damaging unpleasant way. African American
filmmakers have been are emancipating the black image from Hollywood s depiction of Blacks. They

Brief History of African American Roles in Film
African Americans have had a long history in the American motion picture industry. Early depictions
of African American men and women were limited to demeaning stereotypical images of people of
color. During the first decades of the 20th century, many films depicted idealized vision of life in the
South. These films glorified the image of the Old South .African American characters, in keeping with
the dominant stereotypes, were portrayed as incompetent, child like, hyper sexualized, and criminal.
Even the roles for African Americans such as loyal servants, mammies, and butlers reinforced a belief
that the proper social position for Blacks was that of a servant who was unswervingly devoted to
his/her White masters and to upholding the current social order.
The growing momentum of the Civil Rights Movement brought more changes in Hollywood around
the 1950s black were beginning to gain more screen time. The 1970s was the Blaxploitation era this

Effects Of Social Media On Mental Health
Effects of social media on mental health Overview Social media is described, by the Merriam Webster
dictionary (2015), as forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and
microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal
messages, and other content (as videos) . As few as 10 years ago the term social media was yet to be
coined, but within that decade the use of these blogs, websites and sharing platforms has increased
exponentially with no plateau in sight. From creating Instagram accounts for household pets, to
sharing Halloween themed baking ideas over Pinterest, people today have access to social media
outlets for almost everything. Today about 74% of people ages 18 65 use some form of a social
networking site (Pew, 2014). Facebook takes the lead in social media usage with about 71% of those
adults. LinkedIn and Pinterest are tied for second at 28% of users, 26% use Instagram, and Twitter
falls last in the top 5 most used social medias with 23% of users (Pew, 2014). In September of 2013
the Pew Research Center measured that 90% of adults ages 18 29 used these social media outlets on a
daily basis, which is an astonishing increase from the 9% that was measured in February 2005 (Pew,
2014). Due to the fact that young adults are increasingly involving themselves in these online
platforms, it is very important to understand the long term and psychological effects (such as

Relationship Between Corporate Performance And Board
Article 4: Ireland: Q1; the objective of this article is to explore the relationship between corporate
performance and both board size and board composition for quoted Irish firms. This is one of the
finest article that spoke about importance of independence non executive directors for firm efficiency
and economic growth in the context of Irish firms. Also emphasis on having small and large boards.
Q2. : The main research problem is, what types of board structure are optimal from perspective of
maximizing stock holders wealth in Ireland. Subproblems of this paper listed below: a) Whether firm
size has moderating impact on the relation between firm performance and board size. Specifically
whether the relationship between firm performance and board less negative for smaller Irish firms. b)
Whether having a higher proportion of non executive directors on the board is positively associated
with firm performance Q3. Author discussed Agency theory in this paper. Agency theory is root of
corporate governance. Author look at recent research papers which has done vast research on the
topics of, corporate governance, the relationship between firm performance and board size, board
structure and characteristics. Q4. Hample (1998) and Higgs (2003) discussed about importance of
independent non executive directors, they recommended board should comprise with at least 50%

The Ethical Lens Inventory
The Ethical Lens Inventory is designed to help you determine which of four ethical lenses four
primary ethical perspectives help you determine what to do when faced with an ethical dilemma that
doesn t have a clear answer. Your preferred ethical lens depends on your core values the ideals that
propel you to action. Each ethical lens emphasizes underlying core values in a slightly different way.
Two of the ethical lenses emphasize using rationality critical thinking to determine what behavior is
ethical. * Rights and Responsibilities Lens: You (autonomy) use your reason (rationality) to determine
the universal principles and rules by which you and others should live. * Relationship Lens: The

Because you tend toward excessive individualism at the best of times, consider the impact of your
decision on the whole community. Sometimes an individual actually benefits by restraining autonomy
for the good of the community. As you consider what your duty is, remember that others may see the
situation differently or need different supports to fulfill their duties. As you learn to consider the
perspectives of others in your decision making process, you will live out the best of your ideals with
compassion and care for others. Core Values | At the very highest level, all of values can be placed
along two continua, the tension between valuing the individual and the group, and the tension between
using reason to determine a course of action and following the lead of our intuition, our heart.
Autonomy includes values such as: freedom, diligence, authority, meritocracy, self control, duty,
independence, accountability, responsibility. Equality includes values such as: fairness, justice,
equitable, propriety, evenhandedness, impartiality, unselfishness, balance, and restraint. Rationality
includes values such as: loyalty, faithfulness, high principles, purity, predictability, honorability,

The Killer Angel By Michael Shaara
The Killer Angel is a book elaborating on the history of the American civil war authored by Michael
Shaara. The book has gained popularity among American citizens as it covers one of the deadliest
battles in American history that took place at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hence the title of the battle of
Gettysburg (Shaara 5). The crash involved two major groups, the Confederacy, and the Union. The
Confederacy constituted of seven secessionist states from the South who advocated for slavery while
the Union consisted of the northerners who advocated for the abolition of the slave trade and
recognition of black men as legitimate American citizens. The book widely covers the course of the
battle for the three primary days of the war, which were between 30th June 1863 and 2nd July 1863
(Shaara 32). According to the author, the Confederates are headed by General Robert E. Lee and
General James Longstreet. On their part, the Union army is spearheaded by General John Buford.
However, the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is considered as the worst battle in the American
Civil War as the two groups lost a significant number of their soldiers (Shaara 37). It is also clear that
the two groups had different reasons for participating in the war. Soldiers from the two sides also had
different motivations hence the morale and willingness to fight on despite the risk of death. The given
essay aims at elaborating on the main reasons why men from the two different groups

Morals And Ideas Of Characters In The Great Gatsby
The morals and ethics of the characters in the Great Gatsby are twisted.Their ideas of morals and
ethics are very selfish and apply to their wants and needs. Fitzgerald creates characters that have very
different ways of thinking but, in a way, the same. They all have their own twisted ways of
lying,cheating, and being manipulative.
The ethics and morals of the characters in the Great Gatsby were very weak. For example when Tom
found out daisy was having an affair he was very hypocritical towards her even though he was having
an affair with myrtle.People who have good ethics and morals first off don t cheat or have affairs
behind their significant others back. Then when tom gets mad and hypocritical about the situation it
gos to show just how untruthful he is and how he can t own up to what he s doing as well. When Tom
has is other mistress calling the house it shows he has no respect for Daisy, that he only cares about
himself.A person with strong ethics and morals has respects for others and shows that respect for them
whether they are with them or not.Tom is doing things behind Daisy s back and even treating her like
garbage to her face and people notice that.
The characters in the Great Gatsby really don t have ethics and morals. There constantly
lying, cheating, or doing something to hurt on another, it s very dramatic .Tom cheats on Daisy,Jordans
a liar,Gatsby lies about his life, etc.If they really did have ethics and morals they wouldn t be getting

How Did The British Invasion Influence People
The British are coming! The British are coming! The Rolling Stones rolled right into into America
during the British invasion with The Beatles and The Who. The Rolling Stones made it into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame, and are still touring after about fifty years from coming to America during the
British invasion.
People wonder how the Rolling Stones came to be. The Rolling Stones former members included Bill
Wyman playing the bass, Brian Jones playing guitar as well as Mick Taylor. The current members of
the Rolling Stones are Kieth Richard playing the guitar, and singing. Mick Jagger, and Ron wood
singing also, Charlie Watts plays the drums. In 1993, after the Steel Wheels/ Urban Jungle tour, Bill
decided it was time for him to retire from the group, he was tired of touring (Loss, 2004). Brian Jones
stepped down from his position of the Rolling Stones leader as Mick Jagger had taken over. Since
then, the band got their first U.S. hit in 1964 with a cover for Not Fade Away by Buddy Holly
(Norman, 1998). Select critics followed the British invasion to change the favorite genre of music for
American teens. The British Invasion was a slang term to express the generation of British bands that
were popular in America following The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones in success. The Beatles and
the Rolling Stones were different from other rock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wireless Network Topology Essay
Design of Wireless Networking Topologies
The WSN infrastructures can be designed in a variety of ways to address different priorities and make
the appropriate technology trade offs based on the requirements of the certain application. There are
number of interrelated design variables associated with wireless sensor networking.
Fig. 7. Wireless Networking Topologies [10]
The three flexible topologies for network construction are star, tree and mesh respectively, illustrated
in Figure 7. All three topologies consist WSN gateways, end nodes and routers. There are other
topologies, such as ring, line, bus, fully connected and star mesh hybrid networks. Thus, each WSN
topology presents its own set of challenges, advantages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The nodes of bus topology are replaced with standalone star topology networks. This results in both
disadvantages of bus topology and advantages of star topology as well. For example, if the connection
between two groups of networks is broken down due to cutting of the connection on the central linear
core, then those two groups cannot communicate, much like nodes of a bus topology. However, the
star topology nodes will effectively communicate with each other. This structure is arranged in a
hierarchical form and any intermediate node can have any number of the child nodes. 2. Mesh
Topology This special topology is multi hopping systems in which all WSN nodes are identical,
namely they are all routers and communicate with each other to hop data to and from the sensor nodes
and the gateway.
Figure 8. WSN Communication Infrastructure [1]
Unlike the star architecture where the nodes can only talk to the gateway, the nodes in a mesh
topology can also hop messages among other router nodes. The propagation of sensor data through the
mesh allows a sensor network to be extended, in theory to an unlimited range. Besides, a mesh
network is also highly fault tolerant since each sensor node has multiple paths back to the gateway and
to other nodes. If a node fails, the network will reconfigure itself around the failed node automatically.
Depending on the number of nodes

Strategic Plan For EHR
When implementing a new EHR, departments need to have a plan in place when the system causes
change to the process and design within the organization. Often times, regulations and policies need to
be changed to coincide with a new system in place, such as a new EHR program (University of
Scranton, 2017). A way to mitigate this situation is to start at the federal level s regulations and work
down the scope from there. This will guarantee that mandatory rules are still being followed and there
is successful transition into future policies. Additionally, funding will be crucial to the organization s
ability to have a new EHR system. Each department needs to ensure they are properly tracking funds
and that they can afford to upgrade. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using the procurement process, the administrator can ensure they are making the right decisions on
goods and services at the right price (Purchase Control, 2017). When an administrator is required to
follow specific policies and guidelines, the steps in the process need to entertain the best EHR system
vendor without causing any delays with implementation of the new program. There are 7 steps to the
procurement process, beginning with identifying the need to purchase the goods and services. During
step one, the administrator would supply potential vendors with a request for proposal (RFP). The RFP
is a bidding technique used by the identity requesting the procurement for the vendor s business. By
doing this, the administrator has made it known that they have finances available for the EHR system
they are looking into (Wikipedia, 2017). The second step in the process is exploring possible vendors.
During this step the administrator is using the request for information (RFI) to investigate the ability
of the vendor to follow through with the needs of the EHR system they are supplying. The RFI is used
to receive hard copy information about the vendors and their supplies. The format allows the
administrator to compare multiple suppliers (Wikipedia, 2017). At this point, the administrator would
supply possible vendors with a request for quotation (RFQ)

Analysis Of White Noise By Delillo
The awareness and difficulty in accepting morality is not only unique to humans today but have been
long before. Innovations in medicine, technology and means of communication, have somewhat
reduced the likelihood of an early death compared to previous generations of humans, however, such
advancements seem not to conjure the desired feelings of joy, but rather feelings of helplessness and
irrational fears of death, leading to the suppression and denial of its existence, through consumption of
these goods. In his novel, White Noise, DeLillo gives insight into the life of Jack Gladney, who is the
[inventor] and chairman of the department of Hitler Studies at the College on the Hill (4), and also
carries with him a deep fear of death, and his current wife Babette and their children. DeLillo shows
how science and technology end up feeding this fear of death, and causes more difficulty in accepting
its existence, as Jack s fear becomes aggravated due to the Airborne Toxic Event, and his
vulnerabilities regarding death stem to light, while acknowledgeing that The greater the scientific
advance, the more primitive the fear (154), and All plots tend to move deathwards. This is the nature
of plots (26). Every object within the novel, the white noise, from the schools, to supermarket, to
sounds, and means of media, all convey the presence of death, suggesting that this phenomenon

Sex Workers in Canada Essay
Sometimes, the term sex work is used, as well as prostitution . But whichever term we choose to say, it
does not eliminate the stigma attached to it. Cases such as the Bedford V. Canada Case (144) indulges
into the conspiracy of sex work and challenges certain sections of the Criminal Code that make
business in relation to prostitution illegal. Ideally, a sex worker has a career just as a teacher or lawyer.
For this reason, their human rights and dignity should be protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights
and Freedoms as are other professions. However, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as the
Criminal Code do not seek to protect sex workers, yet, they seek to do otherwise using certain sections

Statistics Canada says sex trade is job that is at a high risk since 2000. Homicide in Canada report had
said that since 1991, 73 sex workers were murdered on the job. Sadly, this trend remains today. In
2007, 15 sex workers were reported killed as a direct result of their profession, up and average of 7 per
year for the previous decade .1 Research has proven that the murder scale for sex workers represents
roughly 60 to 120 times the murder rate of adult women in the general Canadian population .2 Sex
work is a very controversial topic and many individuals are passionate about what they believe.
Regardless of the moral arguments, beliefs and disbeliefs, every person in Canada owns the right to
have their human rights as well as their health respected one hundred percent. The Courts of Canada
have focused on the precise question of whether or not Canada s current laws abide by the
Constitution and serve to protect the human rights of the persons engaging in sex work. Although
prostitution is legal in Canada and it is legal to be a sex worker, it is difficult for them to actually
engage in such activity without risking criminal charges that come after it and breaking the law. The
Criminal Code seeks to make almost every activity linked to prostitution illegal and forbids
prostitution in nearly every private, or even public place. Four sections listed in the Criminal Code
covers activities in relation to prostitution. Section 210 outlaws

The Depiction Of The Civil War
If someone were to ask you to name one of your congressman, would you be able to? Many American
citizens struggle to name a single one of their congressman or congresswoman. History is a very
important thing to study because without knowing our history we are more likely to repeat our past.
However, knowing our past requires us to know our present. The fate of their country addresses many
topics of why the civil war occurred and why it mattered, however, Holt makes it very clear in the

very little about their government which resulted in sectional divisions in the North and South
increasing. Holt defends this argument by quoting Abraham Lincoln A bloody conflict was a people s
contest, not simply a politician s war. Holt explains that during this time the government was making
decisions that beyond crucial because they were deepening the distrust between the white population
of the North and South.
Holt s final point addresses the issue of how reckless the politicians were with their decisions and the
corrupt arguments about slavery expansion the government presented to the American people. Holt
explains that the politicians were only looking out for their own personal needs and calls it a

because the government was clearly not looking out for the national interest or the well being of the

Everyone has their dreams and whoever puts all his or her efforts and determination in pursuing that

Mary Tudor s The Queen Of The Throne
Mary Tudor journeyed on a wild adventure throughout her life as she rose to the throne. Her life began
on February 18th in 1516, when she was born to her parents King Henry and Catherine of Aragon at
the Palace of Placentia, which is located in Greenwich, England. She was a marvelous blessing to her
parents, and the events that happened when she was young greatly affected her life as she got older as
well. The Mary Tudor Biography states, She was the only child of King Henry VIII and his first wife,
Catherine of Aragon, to survive through childhood. She was baptized as a Catholic shortly after her
birth. These details may seem minuscule to her life, but they are very crucial since they are the base of
her future beliefs, like religion and values, and how her childhood plays out. These carried on with her
throughout her life and greatly impacted the events that led up to Mary arising as queen. Mary became
the queen of England through being the oldest living child of King Henry VIII, her profound
benevolence towards the English, her ardent belief in turning England into a Catholic country, and
because she was the rightful heir of the throne by blood when the people before she died.

I have been immensely helped by many people, and especially by Deborah Bronnert of the
Department of the Environment, to whom I am particularly grateful. But shortcomings or mistakes in
this Report are my fault alone. Some recommendations are radical. The participants in the construction
process can react in three ways to them. They can refuse to have anything to do with the Report. That
would be a pity. The problems would remain, but the goodwill to tackle them, which has been growing
dramatically over the last twelve months, would be lost. They can pick out the sections which suit
them and reject the rest. If everyone does that, nothing will happen. Or, hopefully, they can try to
make the package work, through the implementation structures which the Report recommends. They
can set about Constructing the Team. The time to choose has arrived. The construction process cannot
wait 30 years for another Banwell or 50 years for another Simon. Michael Latham July, 1994 v
Constructing the Team Executive Summary 1. Previous reports on the construction industry have
either been implemented incompletely, or the problems have persisted. The opportunity which exists
now must not be missed (Chapter 1, paragraph 1.10). Implementation begins with clients. The

Adultism Essay
When I first saw what the topic was for this week s writing assignment, I was unaware what adultism
was. I thought adultism was the same as ageism, so it was confusing to me. When I was looking up
what adultism is, I did not know that it was discrimination against younger people. When I was a
child, I can imagine a time where I did notice that my thoughts, feelings, rights, experiences were not
given priority, in deference of the adults in the room. I mean when I younger adults would always say
to me is you re only a kid, you would never understand . At family gatherings, my aunts and uncles
would never include me in the conservations, they would just talk over me. One example that stood
out to me the most was when my family would celebrate thanksgivings, myself and all the kids were
not allowed to sit in the same room as the adults. We would have to sit in another room and sit at the
kids table to eat our dinner on thanksgivings. As I got older I began to become mad at the fact that I
was not included with the family dinner with my adult family members. Every year, I and my cousins
would try to sit at the adult table but my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

at the time was looking down upon me and discriminating me because I was not an adult like my
mother was. I feel like I experienced adultism a lot when I was in school. I think my teachers thought
they were better than us when I was in grade school because they were older and they did not have
any respect for many of the children in my classrooms. When my parents would discipline me as a

Shooting a Sweep Single From beginners to Olympic Champions, the sweep single is a trenchant
takedown used by all types of wrestlers. It really is a shot that everyone can use no matter the wrestler
s size, shape, or skill level. There are many different variations to this wrestling move with countless
set ups and finishes to it. To successfully complete the sweeping single, a wrestler must focus on
creating a variety of movements that lead to the actual shot which can then be finished to score the
two point takedown.
Before a wrestler can ever shoot a sweep single, they first have to get ahold of the opponent by
attacking certain points of the body. In order to obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin taking the shot the wrestler must first lower their level. This is an intrinsic part in the whole
process. Usually, the wrestler who is lower in height will win the battle, which is the same with many
other contact sports. The attacking wrestler will lower his level to become more powerful and also to
avoid the opponent s upper body defense. The attacking wrestler will then drive off of their back leg
and penetrate into their opponent. This particular shot is called a sweeping single for two reasons. The
sweeping part comes in because as the attacking wrestler is penetrating in, the will windshield wipe
their feet around their opponent in order to get behind them. The second reason is the single part,
which means the attacking wrestler will grab one leg instead of two. After the wrestler is in deep on
their sweeping single shot, they can begin to finish the

The Pros And Cons Of The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
As tensions rose on the lead up to the Second World War, increasing pressures on European political
leaders forced them into fostering new patterns of international relations. The Molotov Ribbentrop
Pact was a move that greatly changed the trajectory in the build up to the Second World War. There
were many factors that gave rise to the signing of the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact; Stalin s fear of
isolation and Hitler s desire for control were not the only deciding elements. This paper will deal with
Soviet Foreign Policy from the years of 1939 41, with reference to the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact. We
will discuss the lead up to the signing of the Pact giving the various different options available to the
Soviets, the reasons for their choices and the effect these choices had on Europe. The following
chapter will discuss the conditions that led to the Pact. As the paper continues, we will try to clarify
Stalin s frame of mind and how it impacted the USSR s foreign policy. Stalin was known to be
distrustful, a perception that was challenged by his collusion with the Nazi Regime. However, this
paper will ask whether he truly trusted Hitler or whether he may have had an ulterior motive when
forging the agreement. The third chapter will discuss how Germany prepared to wage a war against

had to think of what was best for the Soviet Union and how best he could protect its safety without

chapter will discuss the deciding factors that led to the Pact, how Stalin kept negotiation lines open
with both the Allies and with Germany until the last minute, and why this was so. The intended

Music Is A Major Part Of Everyday Life
Music is a major part of everyday life. There are not many people that do not listen to music. Music
has been a gradual piece that has changed and evolved over time. From the beginning of time where
only simple melodies where being played on instruments made of animal parts to present day where
there is a mixture of visual representations and various melodies being played at once. This is all due
to the contributions of many artists over the years. Some of these artists where most influential during
the early 1700s around the time classic and baroque music were prevalent. Other artists like the ones
today have been influenced by past composers. This is just a way that although there are many
branches to music each artists influence and works can all be seen together under one big music
family. One of the most well known and influential artists of the 1700s was Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Beethoven was born on December 17th 1770 in Germany. His father was a musician for a court.
During the 1700s top musicians played in courts meaning for the royals of the country. They were
regarded as royalty and important people because they played for king and higher class people. It was
said the Beethoven s father was an alcoholic, this caused him to be a violent stern man. He was very
strict with his children. Beethoven s mother was the opposite. She was said to be a kind and gentle
woman. Woman that loved and cared for her children. She was the opposite of her husband.

How Does Sherman Alexie Use Symbols In The Reservation Blues
In the novel Reservation Blues, Sherman Alexie uses a great deal of symbolism. What may come
across as just an object actually has a meaning. From specifically Robert Johnson s guitar to the vast
population shown dealing with alcoholism, Alexie creates a deeper meaning of the novel. The most
well represented symbol in the novel is Robert Johnson s guitar. As a young boy, Robert traded his
soul to a gentlemen in order to be able to play the guitar like no one else. So in this exact situation the
guitar represents Robert Johnson s soul and his spirit. From Johnson the guitar was passed onto
Thomas. This certain section of the novel, the guitar represents the Coyote Spring s dreams of fame.
In the beginning, the guitar s sound is astonishing beautiful and alluring. Because of this the entire
band becomes star struck as they gain fans and are discovered by a producer. However, Alexie ...

Native American Natives And Their Impacts Of Native Americans
Journal #1
Entry 1
What are some of the diversity of Native American Indians prior to the arrival of Europeans?
There were numerous diversities between Native American tribes prior to European arrival in North
America. All tribe societies had shamans and medicine men. Natives did not feel that they owned the
land, families were provided land by the tribal leaders to use for a certain length of time to hunt on as
well as grow their crops for life sustainment. Along eastern North America, the Indians thrived on
corn, beans and squash along with hunting and fishing. The Mound Builders of the Mississippi Valley,
built structures constructed in a semicircular fashion overlooking the Mississippi River and traveled
great distances to conduct trade with other natives. Western natives built enormous magnificent
structures to house multiple families. They also built canals and dams to gather and bring water to
their villages to sustain life. Throughout the New America, tribes had their own languages, religious
beliefs, social and political systems.

Icarus As A Mythical Creature Called Icarus
Part 3 8. Beatty had compared Montag to a mythical creature called Icarus. Icarus is a guy in Greek
Mythology that got curious and flew too close to the sun with his wax wings, this caused his wings to
melt and him falling straight to his death. Beatty had compared Montag to Icarus because both of the
characters were curious. They were both curious and got too close to their objects of curiosity, which
ultimately destroys them. They were both warned beforehand, and they both chose to ignore those
warnings and proceed on. For Montag, he got involved with books, and was about to be burned like
Icarus, however he escaped. Montag had his normal life ripped from him and thrown into another
world. 9. In the story, Montag had killed Beatty. While he did that, he realized that Beatty had wanted
to die. Beatty had wanted to die because he was miserable which is not how he normally acts. It has
been hinted in the story that Beatty may have possibly read books before and knows what is going on
with the society. Beatty had said that books were empty and are not worth to read it. This shows that
Beatty knows that the society he lives in was not as good as it seems, however he did not want to go
against the government, so he just does as he was told. This makes him miserable because he may not
like burning books that much, but burning books is his job and he has to do it. To die is sometimes the
quickest way out of all of your problems, however it is also the most cowardly. 10. It

The Powerful Emotions Presented By D H Lawrence
The powerful emotions presented by D H Lawrence In Piano are loss and nostalgia of his mother and
childhood, which are brought up at a wrong moment by a memory. The poet, similarly to Sylvia Plath,
wrote this poem when he was experiencing these emotions after he lost his mother who he was very
close with. The loss is first presented in the lines, A child sitting under the piano, in the boom of the
tingling strings And pressing the small, poised feet of a mother who smiles as she sings. This creates a
very vivid picture and therefore later on in the poem causes the speaker to miss his mother and
childhood. By pressing the small, poised feet the speaker was helping and interacting with his mother,
who was dear and kind to him as suggested by the words, ...a mother who smiles This emphasises that
she loved him and tried to enjoy every moment with his son. This sentence is very light and gentle,
just like a memory. However in the next sentence the speaker uses a word betrays me back which
suggest that he does not want to remember the past at that certain moment, however the wave like
nostalgia, which was summoned by the sounds of piano, drowns him in the memories of his past
which we can see in the lines, ...till the heart of me weeps to belong To the old Sunday evenings at
home, with winter outside And hymns in the cozy parlor, the tinkling piano our guide. The
metaphorical winter represents danger outside his house and the cozy parlor safety inside

Worst Day Of My Life
Life can give you a surprise even though you don t want it was a quote that reminded me of my petty
little self on my 10th birthday. We were visiting the striking city of Miami, Florida.
The day starting at 9:45 ready for the best day of my life not knowing the challenges ahead of my road
to double digits. We were staying at an Airbnb 6 bedroom 5 bathroom house with my Uncles family.
Looking out of my window at the beautiful beach put me in awe.
My Brother in the bed next to me mumbled oh yay it s the worst day of the year. I didn t listen to him
knowing that he was jealous that my birthday was going to be at a paradise.
Excited for my day I ran out of my room to be flabbergasted by my family for my birthday. They all
screamed from the top of their lungs SURPRISE!!! It was as if they wanted to wake up everybody in
the state Florida. I was shocked, but not as shocked as my brother. He literally jumped off the bed of
how alarmed he was.
He said to me I saw a spider on my bed so I got off calmly?!?! I agreed with him making him think
that I believed in the big black spider on his arm climbing up to bite his head off.
As my family dispersed into their rooms I galloped through the long hallway pushing my aunt to get
to the bathroom of sorrows. I called it that because It was decorated as if someone was color blind and
decided to make the bathroom colorful but actually making it the emo bathroom of the world. I went
inside and started brushing my teeth while waiting for

The Film Production Of The Movie Production Industry
In the film production industry, the main goal is to produce a film that appeals to the audience and
incorporate elements of the certain time period. In doing so, the production film must keep in mind the
current trends and views of society. Stereotypes have been commonly present in society for as long as
our history dates back to. Among these stereotypes, I will be focusing primarily on Asian stereotypes
the primary reason being that I am an Asian American myself. The portrayal of these common
stereotypes however, does not imply or mean that Americans view it in a positive light. Some of the
most renowned and racist films in history are Breakfast at Tiffany s and Sixteen Candles. In addition
to these films, I will be examining and analyzing the television series Gossip Girl and Fresh off the
Boat to access a different perspective on the subject of how minorities are seen in American society.
Asian America is known to be comprised of immigrants, the ninjas, the kung fu masters, small
business owners, eastern mystics, Chinese restaurant waiters and people who can t pronounce their Ls
and Rs properly. It s also land of slanted eyes, buck teeth, and incorrect grammar. It s a land of the
yellow menace taking America s money. But we will dive deeper into that subject as this extended

‘News’ is media coverage of an event that occurs somewhere...
News is media coverage of an event that occurs somewhere in the world and Communication experts
have studied the criteria they believe to affect the integration of internal national events into local
news. There is constantly something happening to someone in the world at any given second, so what
criteria qualify an event as news (Galtung and Ruge 65, 2009)?
Johan Galtung and Mari Holmboe Ruge claim that events are understood culturally and by what will
grasp the audience s attention. They theorize that a certain event must meet twelve specific criteria, or
the majority, to be considered news. The first factor deals with the frequency of the event the amount
of time necessary for the event to evolve and gain significance (Galtung ... Show more content on

However, the remaining four factors do change as a result of culture. The ninth and tenth factors deal
with the elite. Galtung and Ruge claim that news are generally linked to elite people and nations. The
elite are often used to represent the mass public and their conduct is generally seen are more
significant than those of the typical person. The eleventh factor is personification, where news
generally portrays events as situations which constitute a subject. The final element claims that
negative news is wanted more than favorable news.
Galtung and Ruge propose three supporting hypotheses regarding the above twelve criteria. The
additivity hypothesis claims that the more factors an event ecnompasses, the greater likelihood it will
be certified as news. The complementarity hypothesis maintains that certain factors are prone to rule
out others and implies that some factors are less essential if others are present. The final hypothesis,
the exclusion hypothesis, contends that events that meet a scarce amount or none of the criteria will
not become news.
Katz and Liebes discuss the characteristics of media and disruptive events. Media events are defined

been overshadowed by disruptive events, for instance, disaster, terror and war. Disruptive events are

Particularly through the eyes of young children, who often view professional athletes as role models,
and look up to them. Popular culture is a part of everyone s lives today, and it affects sports through a
plethora of positive and negative ways. Popular culture makes certain athletes look very humbling, but
then sometimes it could make an athlete look like a complete fool. Many young boys who enjoy sports
usually have dreams of playing professionally one day. Therefore these athlete role models have such

Professional athletes such as former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez got into a
very substantial amount of trouble. Hernandez was involved in murder, a very serious crime, and it
now has him stuck in jail. He was released by the New England Patriots, and now is viewed as a
horrific man. Michael Vick took part in dog fighting earlier in his career and was sent to prison for
almost two years. Even though he is back in the NFL now, he will never be able to get rid of the past,
and it will always haunt him. Both of these athletes committed very immoral crimes, obviously
Hernandez s being more serious, but regardless they will always have to live with this. Children who
admire these two athletes, and don t know any better are faced with the issue of trying to understand
why they stopped playing. Therefore, athletes sometimes leave very damaging images on kids who
admire them, and popular culture does not help when the news constantly reports on these guys.
Even though there are a bunch of professional athletes who are appalling role models on kids, there
are a lot more who through pop culture leave excellent impressions on children. Pros such as Derek
Jeter, Tim Tebow, and Eli Manning are prime examples of an excellent role model. All three of these
guys give it their all, each one of them never gets in any trouble, and they are always giving

Abstract
Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of men
and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the father s
role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house hold
chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an important
institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. That was then, the present is
experiencing changing roles, and fathers opt for staying at home as mothers pursue their careers.

What involves staying at Home?
The decision for one to become a stay at home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye. A
father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power as
compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other working
expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands (McKay 4).
Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by choice or by force, the
fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a sense of commitment to the well
being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is that as they go about their duties, they are
met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on the role of fathers who are responsible and take
good care of their children and keep their families home running smoothly. This does not mean that all
stay at home parents including mothers are ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be
effective as women in taking care of their families despite the way the society views what is normal
and acceptable gender role performance. According to Frank, in his book, The Involved Father, he
argues that fathers are just doing what mothers have been doing all along and that is domestic house
work. The only difference is that in the present day,

Technology Is Not Science Fiction
Implanted with a Chip People today are enamored with the idea of having the latest, coolest
technologies in their possession, and no matter what comes down the pipeline they will do whatever it
takes to get their hands on it. What would someone do if they found out that there was a piece of
technology that would allow them to unlock their car with the palm of their hand, and start the car
with that same hand just by touching the steering wheel. How about if they could go to the bank and
withdraw money from their account without ever having to pull out their debit card or any form of
identification. Now how about this, someone goes to the grocery store fills their cart with everything
on their shopping list, and then exits the store never having stopped at the checkout counter. This
sounds like a piece of technology that people would want to get their hands on. How would people
react to find out that this piece of technology is not science fiction but indeed science fact? Although
the idea of putting microchip implants in human beings may have many valuable uses, the potential to
make life easier, and seems like the natural progression in technological advancement it should not be
taken lightly. Implanting people with microchips is undoubtedly the wrong direction in which to take
the society; the implementation of microchip implants will be the catalyst that causes everyone to
forgo their freedoms and right to privacy. The microchip implant is being marketed as a possible

mother and daughter. Author describes their relationship in such a way which gives many lessons and
morals from this short story. The main focus of the story is that the mother, who was an immigrant
from China, once told her daughter the importance of their culture and heritage. Her daughter Jandale
woo, who is almost completely ignorant of their heritage and culture, is thoroughly Americanized who
doesn t know much about her background. Mother also told her daughter that she will realize that
cultures and heritages are important part of life. After her mother, dies she travels to China with her

Later in the story she goes to China to and when she gets there she says I became Chinese by which
she means as she came to chine she is ready to learn more about her traditions, values, and her
background. I can relate to the story a little bit because I came to America at a very young age too. In
the story she didn t know much about her background, but in my case I knew much about my
background and traditions which helped me a lot in my life. According to my knowledge, in this story
the theme is to learn about the background, traditions, and reuniting, where the symbol of this story is
traveling. It also concludes that everyone should learn about their traditions, values and backgrounds.
Having knowledge about backgrounds and traditions helps people stay connected to their families and
people around them. It makes people s personality better which helps them become a better person in

Technology Based Learning Essay
Technology based learning (TBL) constitutes learning via electronic technology, including the
Internet, intranets, satellite broadcasts, audio and video conferencing, bulletin boards, chat rooms,
webcasts, and CD ROM. TBL also encompasses related terms, such as online learning and web based
learning that only include learning that occurs via the Internet, and computer based learning that is
restricted to learning through the use of computers. E learning is synonymous with TBL and has
largely replaced it in scholarship and industry as the term of choice.
TBL holds the promise of substantially transforming the way learning takes place because of its
numerous advantages. Among these, TBL fosters greater accessibility to learning by offering anytime
and anywhere delivery. It is readily scalable to both large and small groups since it can accommodate
larger numbers of learners at little extra cost and smaller groups of learners that otherwise would not
be able to participate in traditional classroom training for lack of enrollments. Further, the content of
TBL courses, especially those that are delivered online, can be centrally developed and updated
whenever the need arises; therefore, the cost of replacing outdated course materials and retraining
teachers and instructors drops significantly. From the learners point of view, TBL can be self paced
and matched to the learner s needs, and, building on pedagogy that emphasizes the merits of discovery
learning, it offers

Compare and Contrast Japanese and Western Imperialism in Asia and the Pacific
23 October 2013 at 18:10
The Japanese pursuit for an empire in South East Asia helped changed the balance of world power
away from Europe, by taking their most lucrative colonies. Soon after the Japanese defeat in World
War II, most of the colonies won their independence from their European masters. This essay will be
arguing that despite the vast geographical distance and cultural, racial differences, as well as the
different time periods involved, Japanese and European intentions were very similar, and that these
similarities contributed to the weakening of Imperialism as a doctrine. To do so, this essay will be
examining the reasons for the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second problem was the Black Death, which was a bacteria that infected rats. As towns became
over crowded and food became scarce, hundreds of millions of rats migrated to the towns. People
lived with the rats in filthy conditions, allowing the fleas that became infected while infesting the rats
to attack people and infect them too. Some historical sources claim up to 2/3 of Europe s population
were affected and half died. Lastly, European powers were constantly locked in power struggles such
as the 100 Years War between England and France. Thousands were killed or crippled over sometimes
only a few kilometres of territory. These problems all contributed to a chronic labour shortage.
Landowners had too many crops and no one to harvest them. Peasants and Serfs tried to take
advantage of the situation by trying to implement new conditions, but landowners refused to lower
quotas, even though there were fewer people to meet them. This led to revolt and some changes were
put in place. Landowners started paying wages for the first time. The way Europe responded to this
was by introducing mercantilism. Mercantilism is an economic doctrine where a country dedicates all
its national resources (eg. Natural, labour, industrial etc) on a national level, unlike within feudalism
where it was on a local level. A step towards mercantilism was the establishment of the absolute
monarchies who took control of their

Challenges Of Indian Students Face On Campus
Indians students in US facing cultural disconnect on campus
Indians love to boast about the cultural diversity of their land, but it is not until they arrive at a US
university that they encounter the real thing. All said and done, some things are the same wherever
you go in India, and there are not that many surprises. But new Indian students who arrive in the US
are never quite prepared for the cultural tidal wave that await them on campus.
However, most of them overcome the culture shock eventually and come to love their campus lives, so
much so that they suffer a reverse culture shock when they visit home. The initial months of
adjustment are the most difficult for Indian students. Here we discuss some problem areas and how
students find solutions.
Communication
The main difficulty that Indian students face on campus is how to interact with other international and
American students and teachers. A large majority of Indian students, even some of those who have
graduated in the English medium from reputed schools in big cities in India, not to speak of small
towns, struggle to converse with other students, particularly Americans. They are unable to understand
popular American expressions, including idioms ( I ll take a rain check, you re on the ball, I m still
finding my feet, etc.), words/phrases ( downtown, okra, check, etc.), and spellings ( caliber, program,
traveling, etc.).
American pronunciation also confuses Indians ( semai for semi, skedule

Relationships In Fahrenheit 451
Relationships are often seen as lovey dovey couples in our modern day society, and often mean that
we have to look out for each other s spouse while having that love between the two without even
having to tell each other constantly just to make sure we aren t drifting away apart from each other.
But that wasn t the case in Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451. In Fahrenheit 451, relationships
aren t really cared for and neither are kids. They re apparently disgusting and the only reason they
should have kids is to have the human race going. In Fahrenheit 451 it states, No one in his right mind,
the Good Lord know, would have children! ... The world must reproduce, you know, the race must go
on. (Bradbury pg.92). This shows how they don t care for children at all while our modern day society

  • 2. Human Papillomavirus Research Paper The role of Human papillomavirus (HPV) as a necessary cause of cervical and other genitoanal cancers has been established based on epidemiological and molecular research (1). HPV vaccines targeting high risk HPV types 16 and 18, and low risk types 6 and 11 have been demonstrated as protective against persistent infection, and hence carcinogenesis (2). Introduction Sexually transmitted infection with Human papillomavirus (HPV) is very common, with approximately 50% of sexually active women having at least one HPV infection in the first 5 years following the initiation of sexual activity (3). HPV infection is considered necessary, though not sufficient, in order to develop cervical cancer. Evidence shows that almost all cervical cancers contain HPV DNA, and that the attributable risk of infection for cervical cancer is higher than that of smoking and lung cancer (6). Despite HPV being most commonly associated with cervical cancer, the virus is capable of causing a number of cancers and benign lesions of the genitoanal region in both men and women (4, 5). There are over 100 different genotypes of HPV based on the gene coding for the L1 capsid protein, of which can be further classified into either high risk oncogenic types, or low risk types (1, 5) . Of those considered high risk, HPV 16 and 18 are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those individuals who are unable to clear infection of a high risk HPV genotype are at risk of the development of pre cursor lesions and if untreated, invasive carcinoma (5, ... Early depictions of African American men and women were limited to demeaning stereotypical images of people of color. During the first decades of the 20th century, many films depicted idealized vision of life in the South. These films glorified the image of the Old South .African American characters, in keeping with the dominant stereotypes, were portrayed as incompetent, child like, hyper sexualized, and criminal. Even the roles for African Americans such as loyal servants, mammies, and butlers reinforced a belief that the proper social position for Blacks was that of a servant who was unswervingly devoted to his/her White masters and to upholding the current social order. • 4. Effects Of Social Media On Mental Health Effects of social media on mental health Overview Social media is described, by the Merriam Webster dictionary (2015), as forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos) . As few as 10 years ago the term social media was yet to be coined, but within that decade the use of these blogs, websites and sharing platforms has increased exponentially with no plateau in sight. From creating Instagram accounts for household pets, to sharing Halloween themed baking ideas over Pinterest, people today have access to social media outlets for almost everything. Today about 74% of people ages 18 65 use some form of a social networking site (Pew, 2014). Facebook takes the lead in social media usage with about 71% of those adults. LinkedIn and Pinterest are tied for second at 28% of users, 26% use Instagram, and Twitter falls last in the top 5 most used social medias with 23% of users (Pew, 2014). In September of 2013 the Pew Research Center measured that 90% of adults ages 18 29 used these social media outlets on a daily basis, which is an astonishing increase from the 9% that was measured in February 2005 (Pew, 2014). Due to the fact that young adults are increasingly involving themselves in these online platforms, it is very important to understand the long term and psychological effects (such as depression, social anxiety, ... As you learn to consider the perspectives of others in your decision making process, you will live out the best of your ideals with compassion and care for others. Core Values | At the very highest level, all of values can be placed along two continua, the tension between valuing the individual and the group, and the tension between using reason to determine a course of action and following the lead of our intuition, our heart. • 7. The Killer Angel By Michael Shaara The Killer Angel is a book elaborating on the history of the American civil war authored by Michael Shaara. The book has gained popularity among American citizens as it covers one of the deadliest battles in American history that took place at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hence the title of the battle of Gettysburg (Shaara 5). The crash involved two major groups, the Confederacy, and the Union. The Confederacy constituted of seven secessionist states from the South who advocated for slavery while the Union consisted of the northerners who advocated for the abolition of the slave trade and recognition of black men as legitimate American citizens. The book widely covers the course of the battle for the three primary days of the war, which were between 30th June 1863 and 2nd July 1863 (Shaara 32). According to the author, the Confederates are headed by General Robert E. Lee and General James Longstreet. On their part, the Union army is spearheaded by General John Buford. However, the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is considered as the worst battle in the American Civil War as the two groups lost a significant number of their soldiers (Shaara 37). It is also clear that the two groups had different reasons for participating in the war. Soldiers from the two sides also had different motivations hence the morale and willingness to fight on despite the risk of death. • 8. Morals And Ideas Of Characters In The Great Gatsby The morals and ethics of the characters in the Great Gatsby are twisted.Their ideas of morals and ethics are very selfish and apply to their wants and needs. Fitzgerald creates characters that have very different ways of thinking but, in a way, the same. They all have their own twisted ways of lying, cheating, and being manipulative. The ethics and morals of the characters in the Great Gatsby were very weak. For example when Tom found out daisy was having an affair he was very hypocritical towards her even though he was having an affair with myrtle.People who have good ethics and morals first off don t cheat or have affairs behind their significant others back. Then when tom gets mad and hypocritical about the situation it gos to show just how untruthful he is and how he can t own up to what he s doing as well. When Tom has is other mistress calling the house it shows he has no respect for Daisy, that he only cares about himself.A person with strong ethics and morals has respects for others and shows that respect for them whether they are with them or not.Tom is doing things behind Daisy s back and even treating her like garbage to her face and people notice that. The characters in the Great Gatsby really don t have ethics and morals. There constantly lying, cheating, or doing something to hurt on another, it s very dramatic .Tom cheats on Daisy,Jordans a liar,Gatsby lies about his life, etc.If they really did have ethics and morals they wouldn t be getting into so much drama all ... The Rolling Stones rolled right into into America during the British invasion with The Beatles and The Who. The Rolling Stones made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and are still touring after about fifty years from coming to America during the British invasion. • 10. Wireless Network Topology Essay Design of Wireless Networking Topologies The WSN infrastructures can be designed in a variety of ways to address different priorities and make the appropriate technology trade offs based on the requirements of the certain application. There are number of interrelated design variables associated with wireless sensor networking. Fig. 7. Wireless Networking Topologies [10] The three flexible topologies for network construction are star, tree and mesh respectively, illustrated in Figure 7. All three topologies consist WSN gateways, end nodes and routers. There are other topologies, such as ring, line, bus, fully connected and star mesh hybrid networks. Thus, each WSN topology presents its own set of challenges, advantages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The nodes of bus topology are replaced with standalone star topology networks. This results in both disadvantages of bus topology and advantages of star topology as well. For example, if the connection between two groups of networks is broken down due to cutting of the connection on the central linear core, then those two groups cannot communicate, much like nodes of a bus topology. However, the star topology nodes will effectively communicate with each other. This structure is arranged in a hierarchical form and any intermediate node can have any number of the child nodes. 2. Mesh Topology This special topology is multi hopping systems in which all WSN nodes are identical, namely they are all routers and communicate with each other to hop data to and from the sensor nodes and the gateway. Figure 8. WSN Communication Infrastructure [1] Unlike the star architecture where the nodes can only talk to the gateway, the nodes in a mesh topology can also hop messages among other router nodes. The propagation of sensor data through the mesh allows a sensor network to be extended, in theory to an unlimited range. Besides, a mesh network is also highly fault tolerant since each sensor node has multiple paths back to the gateway and to other nodes. If a node fails, the network will reconfigure itself around the failed node automatically. Depending on the number of nodes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Strategic Plan For EHR When implementing a new EHR, departments need to have a plan in place when the system causes change to the process and design within the organization. Often times, regulations and policies need to be changed to coincide with a new system in place, such as a new EHR program (University of Scranton, 2017). A way to mitigate this situation is to start at the federal level s regulations and work down the scope from there. This will guarantee that mandatory rules are still being followed and there is successful transition into future policies. Additionally, funding will be crucial to the organization s ability to have a new EHR system. Each department needs to ensure they are properly tracking funds and that they can afford to upgrade. ... By using the procurement process, the administrator can ensure they are making the right decisions on goods and services at the right price (Purchase Control, 2017). When an administrator is required to follow specific policies and guidelines, the steps in the process need to entertain the best EHR system vendor without causing any delays with implementation of the new program. There are 7 steps to the procurement process, beginning with identifying the need to purchase the goods and services. During step one, the administrator would supply potential vendors with a request for proposal (RFP). The RFP is a bidding technique used by the identity requesting the procurement for the vendor s business. By doing this, the administrator has made it known that they have finances available for the EHR system they are looking into (Wikipedia, 2017). The second step in the process is exploring possible vendors. During this step the administrator is using the request for information (RFI) to investigate the ability of the vendor to follow through with the needs of the EHR system they are supplying. • 12. Analysis Of White Noise By Delillo The awareness and difficulty in accepting morality is not only unique to humans today but have been long before. Innovations in medicine, technology and means of communication, have somewhat reduced the likelihood of an early death compared to previous generations of humans, however, such advancements seem not to conjure the desired feelings of joy, but rather feelings of helplessness and irrational fears of death, leading to the suppression and denial of its existence, through consumption of these goods. In his novel, White Noise, DeLillo gives insight into the life of Jack Gladney, who is the [inventor] and chairman of the department of Hitler Studies at the College on the Hill (4), and also carries with him a deep fear of death, and his current wife Babette and their children. DeLillo shows how science and technology end up feeding this fear of death, and causes more difficulty in accepting its existence, as Jack s fear becomes aggravated due to the Airborne Toxic Event, and his vulnerabilities regarding death stem to light, while acknowledgeing that The greater the scientific advance, the more primitive the fear (154), and All plots tend to move deathwards. The poet, similarly to Sylvia Plath, wrote this poem when he was experiencing these emotions after he lost his mother who he was very close with. The loss is first presented in the lines, A child sitting under the piano, in the boom of the tingling strings And pressing the small, poised feet of a mother who smiles as she sings. News is media coverage of an event that occurs somewhere in the world and Communication experts have studied the criteria they believe to affect the integration of internal national events into local news. There is constantly something happening to someone in the world at any given second, so what criteria qualify an event as news (Galtung and Ruge 65, 2009)? Johan Galtung and Mari Holmboe Ruge claim that events are understood culturally and by what will grasp the audience s attention. They theorize that a certain event must meet twelve specific criteria, or the majority, to be considered news. The first factor deals with the frequency of the event the amount of time necessary for the event to evolve and gain significance (Galtung ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the remaining four factors do change as a result of culture. The ninth and tenth factors deal with the elite. Galtung and Ruge claim that news are generally linked to elite people and nations. The elite are often used to represent the mass public and their conduct is generally seen are more significant than those of the typical person. The eleventh factor is personification, where news generally portrays events as situations which constitute a subject. The final element claims that negative news is wanted more than favorable news. Galtung and Ruge propose three supporting hypotheses regarding the above twelve criteria. The additivity hypothesis claims that the more factors an event ecnompasses, the greater likelihood it will be certified as news. The complementarity hypothesis maintains that certain factors are prone to rule out others and implies that some factors are less essential if others are present. The final hypothesis, the exclusion hypothesis, contends that events that meet a scarce amount or none of the criteria will not become news. Katz and Liebes discuss the characteristics of media and disruptive events. Popular culture is a part of everyone s lives today, and it affects sports through a plethora of positive and negative ways. Michael Vick took part in dog fighting earlier in his career and was sent to prison for almost two years. Stay at Home Fathers Running Head: STAY AT HOME DADS Stay at Home Dads Name: Course: College: Tutor: Date: Abstract Traditionally families were defined by their faithfulness and conventional sex roles. The roles of men and women were structured according to the traditional family roles. It was believed that the father s role was to work in the office the whole day as the mother stays at home to attend to house hold chores. For many years traditional marriage was the cornerstone of almost all societies, an important institution for the passing on of values and taking care of children. That was then, the present is experiencing changing roles, and fathers opt for staying at home as mothers pursue their careers. Introduction The stereotype that men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What involves staying at Home? The decision for one to become a stay at home dad may encompass a lot than what meets the eye. A father considering remaining at home may look at many factors including his earning power as compared to that of the spouse. Work attire, commuting costs, daycare costs and other working expenses. A slight repetitive flaw is rooted along with the idea of house husbands (McKay 4). Regardless of whether the decision of men to become primary care givers is by choice or by force, the fact is that these men take on the care giver role and perform it with a sense of commitment to the well being and health of their families. However, the sad thing is that as they go about their duties, they are met with quizzical looks and criticized for taking on the role of fathers who are responsible and take good care of their children and keep their families home running smoothly. This does not mean that all stay at home parents including mothers are ideal parents, it only suggests that men also can be effective as women in taking care of their families despite the way the society views what is normal and acceptable gender role performance. According to Frank, in his book, The Involved Father, he argues that fathers are just doing what mothers have been doing all along and that is domestic house work. TBL also encompasses related terms, such as online learning and web based learning that only include learning that occurs via the Internet, and computer based learning that is restricted to learning through the use of computers. E learning is synonymous with TBL and has largely replaced it in scholarship and industry as the term of choice. TBL holds the promise of substantially transforming the way learning takes place because of its numerous advantages. Among these, TBL fosters greater accessibility to learning by offering anytime and anywhere delivery. It is readily scalable to both large and small groups since it can accommodate larger numbers of learners at little extra cost and smaller groups of learners that otherwise would not be able to participate in traditional classroom training for lack of enrollments. Further, the content of TBL courses, especially those that are delivered online, can be centrally developed and updated whenever the need arises; therefore, the cost of replacing outdated course materials and retraining teachers and instructors drops significantly. Soon after the Japanese defeat in World War II, most of the colonies won their independence from their European masters. As towns became over crowded and food became scarce, hundreds of millions of rats migrated to the towns. People lived with the rats in filthy conditions, allowing the fleas that became infected while infesting the rats to attack people and infect them too. Some historical sources claim up to 2/3 of Europe s population were affected and half died. Lastly, European powers were constantly locked in power struggles such as the 100 Years War between England and France. Thousands were killed or crippled over sometimes only a few kilometres of territory. These problems all contributed to a chronic labour shortage. Landowners had too many crops and no one to harvest them. Peasants and Serfs tried to take advantage of the situation by trying to implement new conditions, but landowners refused to lower quotas, even though there were fewer people to meet them. This led to revolt and some changes were put in place. Landowners started paying wages for the first time. The way Europe responded to this was by introducing mercantilism. Mercantilism is an economic doctrine where a country dedicates all its national resources (eg. But new Indian students who arrive in the US are never quite prepared for the cultural tidal wave that await them on campus.
