Radio Frequency Identification
           (RFID) "Tag and Track"

                       Presented by Mr. Majid
Topics Covered

• Definition of RFID
• RFID History
• Components of a RFID System:
• How does a RFID system work?
• Use of RFID
Definition of RFID
• Technology used to track and identify a
person or object by means of radio waves.
• Identification system consists of chip-
  based tags and readers.
RFID History
• “Identify Friend or Foe” (IFF) systems developed
by the British to identify friendly aircraft.
• IFF still used today for aircraft

                   Oh. We’re British too!
Components of a RFID System

Two main components to a basic RFID
system:

  RFID Tag (transponder) Chip (IC)

                                Antenna
  RFID Reader (transceiver)
How does a RFID system work
Object to be tracked is fixed with RFID Tag.
The Reader is kept at some distance.
Object containing RFID tag comes within the range
of radio signals emitted by reader, the Tag is
activated and starts sending information stored in it.

The Reader captures the radio signal, and decodes
it to a byte stream and sends information for further
processing to the system connected to it.
