The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. In order to gain some responses to this question in my evaluation, I saved my music
poster and CD digipack as a JPEG and uploaded these to Facebook along with the link
to my music video which had been transferred to YouTube. I then included 6 different
questions for people to answer about my music video and ancillaries.
The image here is a
screenshot from my Facebook
of what I uploaded for people
to see. I gained multiple
responses to these questions
which is what I am going to be
discussing in this part of the
evaluation. From these
responses I will learn what I
have done well and what
other people like about my
music video. This will allow
me to understand what I
could have done to improve
my coursework and the thing
that audiences might have
liked to have seen.
3. The final question asked whether they
thought my music video and ancillaries
were stereotypical of the pop genre.
The response I got to this is that it was
not completely stereotypical as the
choice of song is a lot more calm,
acoustic and relaxing than the pop
music you stereotypically hear in the
charts today.
This is one of the responses that I got
from my Facebook post. This tells me
that the narrative that I was going for
with the music video is clear to
audiences as the response got from
the first question states exactly what
I was going for with the story
involving love in the past and
present. Similar to this response, I
would say that the target audience
for my music video would be mostly
teenagers of both genders, although
I do feel that it would be enjoyed by
most generations as it involves both
old and young characters. I
understand that this genre of music
will not be enjoyed by everyone as
this person has stated, although she
said that if it was something that she
listened to, she would be attracted to
the CD enough to purchase it.
4. This is another response that I got from the questions which I uploaded. This
comment again states that the narrative is clear which is positive feedback for me as
the narrative is one of the most important elements to my music video as I have
tried very hard to tell a story. The fact that my music video made this particular
viewer cry displays evidence that the narrative is effective and emotional which is
what I was trying to present throughout key scenes. I agree that there is a point
where the singers lip synch is slightly out so this is something that I will take into
consideration when emending my music video. The target audience for my music
video was depicted well by this viewer as I do feel that it can be enjoyed by different
age generations. I feel that although old people would enjoy my music video, it may
be more difficult for them to access it if they are not as familiar with devices, this is
why the music video would perhaps be aimed more so at teenagers-40.
5. This response shows that my narrative is clear to understand as they have described it as a
love story between two people, reflecting on the time they spent with one another when they
were younger. This is positive feedback for my music video as one of my main aims was
to tell a story through the characters. After reading the answer to the second question, I agree
that building more of a connection between my male singer and the characters in my video
this would have been a positive element to include. This could have worked well in my music
video as it would have added to the narrative, creating more of an emotional response. I
would agree with the response to question 3 being aimed more at females because I feel that
stereotypically the genre of love and romance appeals more to this gender. This response also
states that my music video, poster and digipack do not completely follow the stereotypical
expectation of the pop genre, although the actual theme does. They said that it does follow
the conventions of pop, but not as stereotypically as some other products in the media.
6. This response tells me that the narrative was
emotional which is positive feedback for me as it was
initially the feeling that I was aiming to create. This
shows that my music video was successful in this area.
The fact that this response states that they could not
think of anything to Improve, tells me that it is fitting
for my target audience and hopefully would be
enjoyed by many people without disappointment. The
response I got for the target audience is slightly
different t o what other people have said as this
person thinks that my music video would appeal to
mostly 40-60 year olds rather than teenagers. I
understand this response as older people may enjoy it
more as they can relate to it more than a younger
audience. They are likely to be in/have been in love
before and will make their young memories come back
to them, causing a more emotional response. Similar to
my other responses, this one also states that if the
genre of music was something that they enjoy, they
would be inclined to buy it if they saw it on a shelf.
7. The narrative of my video was identified
well by this person as they have described
my exact idea for the story. This is positive
feedback as everyone who has answered
my questions have now said that they can
clearly understand what is happening in the
video. I feel that the answer to the second
question is somewhat true, as we have included
many shots of the setting perhaps as a way of
filling some gaps, on the other hand the setting
is very important to my music video as it adds to
the romantic feel. I agree that the music video
would appeal to all ages due to the difference in
generations featured throughout it, I think that the
video would appeal to young ages as they could
be experiencing the young love that the teenagers
are experiencing. Older people could also identify
with the narrative as it could be something that they
have experienced themselves and could make them
feel emotional. I agree that I could have included
things such as song lyrics and information about the
artist inside my digipack although I wanted to keep
It quite simple yet effective, although they like the
black and white touch that runs through all three of
my media texts which is positive. The answer to the
5th question states that this person is more a fan of
colour apposed to black and white, which is a fair
point although I feel that the black and white effect
fits much better with the lyrics and the narrative. For
I agree with the response that I got for the final
question here as I agree that the music video
challenges the general stereotypes of the pop genre
due to the element of sadness that I have included,
although the theme of love and romance is a typical
stereotype.
8. Looking through these responses has been helpful to me as I am able to understand the
positive and negative aspects of my coursework. I have learned that my music video has a
clear and is easy to understand, along with maintaining an emotional response from my
audience. This is positive feedback as it shows that my initial Idea has been a success and
has gained an emotional response from my focus group. Nobody really stated any major
things that I could have improved, I agree that I could have included more of the male
character singing and that I could have also presented a connection between the singer and
the other characters. I feel that if I would have done this I could have gained a more
emotional response although it would have been a challenge to show this relationship. I
agree with most of the responses concerning the target audience of my music video being
teenagers to young adults, I do think that my music video would also appeal to people in
their 40’s upwards as some of my participants have stated. They will likely be able to relate
to what is happening in my video as it could be something they have experienced before. I
also agree with of the responses which stated that my music video would appeal to all age
groups due to the difference in ages of my characters. I have purposely included old and
young characters so that my video can be enjoyed by people of all ages. All of my
participants said that my music poster and CD digipack look professional which obviously is
positive feedback. Most people also stated that if it was a genre of music that they
personally enjoyed, they would purchase it purely from the design If they saw it on a shelf. I
gained mixed responses from my final question as most participants said it was
stereotypical of the pop genre although two responses stated that it doesn’t completely
follow the conventions as it has a twist to it with the element of sadness. The pop genre
typically follows the theme of love, as my music video does, although I feel that I challenge
the stereotypes with the sadness and emotion.
