2. Question one As you can see from the
sample of the answers given,
the most common response
to the question was ‘’Girls’’.
This answer was expected as
during my analysis of dance
music videos the element of
attractive girls performing was
an on-going recurrence
throughout. This answer
defiantly does represent the
stereotype of the genre.

3. Question two
In relation to the first question it was a surprise to see the most
appealing element of a music video is the storyline. I was expecting the
most appealing element to be the performance in relation to the
theme of ‘’Girls’’ which seemed to be a popular answer from the first
question.

4. Question three
The answers given were
very brief, however the
responses given were all
very similar. The majority
of people agreed that they
like a specific element
because of emotion and
meaning the element
evokes in the viewing
audience.

5. Question four
As you can see the average age of the
audience is between 17 and 19 years old
which is typical of the dance genre fan
base. This is presumably the age
teenager start to visit nightclubs and
pubs, where this genre of music is
frequently played influencing the
listeners .

6. Question five
It is clear that there is a higher percentage of males who listen to dance music
compared to the number of females that do. Taking previous answers into
consideration it would appear that the appeal of attractive female performers
entices a larger male fan base to the genre.

7. Question six
As you can see this
is a mixed response
in terms of the
other types of music
which the audience
listens to. Hip Hop
for example fits in
very well with the
genre of Dance as
both are very up
beat types of music
where as on the
other hand, it was a
surprise to see the
genre Acoustic up
there within the
answers as both
genres are very
different.

8. Question seven
The response to this question was split down the
middle. Most of the audience who answered the
question agreed videos do influence them to dress in
a specific way. The rest answered ‘no’ giving very
good reasons: For example ‘If a person is easily led or
only to a certain extent in terms of been influenced to
wear specific footwear like high tops’.

to further my research of the
artist. Researching the artist
more will hopefully give me
ideas and guidance on how
to produce a good quality
music video & DigiPak and
successfully promote my
artist and album (advert) in

like Calvin Harris had done in
order to attract an
audience.

10. Question nine I noticed from the responses
given the audience preferred
Calvin’s older music in
comparison to his newer
material. I have decided to
analyse a few of his older videos
and compare them with a few of
his new tracks. Doing this will
aid my understanding of the
reasons why the audience prefer
the older tracks opposed to the
newer tracks, and will direct me
towards what the audience like
to see incorporated into a dance
music video.

11. Question ten This question did not achieve useful
feedback, this is probably due top
the fact that the question is badly
worded. However, from the vague
feedback it seems that the majority
feel that the song evokes a sense of
liberation and love. This is
something that I will aim to
incorporate in my own product as I
was to convey the message in the
lyrics.

12. Conclusion
• We chose to post our survey on Facebook and twitter, as well
as sending it via email. We chose to post the questionnaire on
these sites as they are popular social networking sites with a
wide range of young people using them, hoping to get a good
number of answers. The responses will help us as a group to
gain as much information as possible about the dance genre.
• In conclusion, the survey achieved some fairly useful
information. I feel we have gathered enough to move forward
to the next step. However, the responses we got were kind of
expected and only confirmed our ideas and expectations of
the genre. We now intend to develop our research of the
artist Calvin Harris by researching his older music and his
newer music in order to create our own music video to the
best of our ability.
