Survey Responses
100% of my responses guessed
correctly that my music video is
abstract. This means that I was
successful in creating an
abstract product. I’m very glad
that it was recognisable as I
tried hard not to include any
narrative elements but still
create something visually
entertaining. I also didn’t
include any performance
elements, such as lip syncing or
playing a musical instrument.
My music video was also successful in which
the audience could establish that it was of
the indie genre. This is because I researched
the conventions of indie music videos before
hand so that I knew how to create my own of
the same genre. Genre is very important to
get right so that it appeals to your target
audience. Therefore I am glad that it was
easy to establish my video as ‘indie’. I think
the biggest features that helped establish
this was the use of filters, casual costumes
for the characters and the locations all being
outdoors in forests and around nature. Also
the use of editing in post production looks
‘trippy’ which is psychedelic.
I am glad that all
respondents enjoyed my
music video as it is a very
catchy, fun song. I needed
my video to live up to the
upbeat song, so to hear
that people enjoyed
watching the video meant
that it lives up to the song.
I asked if anyone
would make any
improvements to
the song and
everybody that
answered said that
they wouldn’t make
any changes. This I
feel was generous
myself but to get
positive responses
from the audience
is helpful for
making successful
products that have
potential in the
music industry.
For this multiple answer question I am glad
that the audience were satisfied when
watching my music video. I aimed to make the
audience entertained, happy and nostalgic
when watching the music video. All of these
answers have been selected. I gave the
audience a choice of negative options to pick
in case I was unsuccessful in how I made the
audience feel. I applied my knowledge of
Bulmer and Katz ‘Uses and Gratifications
theory’ to my product. I understand that how
the audience may view my product will be
different to one another due to their personal
experiences and beliefs.
My ancillary texts were also
successful in the fact that
100% of the responses said
that they would by my
products. This means that
the use of continuity and
understanding of the genre
and what the audience
expects from a music video
has paid off.
I answered this question so that I could
understand how old the people answering my
survey were. By finding out this I can see what
age groups answered and saw my products and
understand how they felt about it as different
age groups will most likely respond in their own
ways. All of the respondents were of the age
16-21, this means that they were most likely
students. This is my target audience as the
music video includes characters of the same age
group meaning that it will mostly appeal to this
age group.
By finding out the gender I can
also establish who was
attracted to my products. I
included the male character on
both the promotional poster
and the digipak but in the music
video there is both the male
and female. I did this so that my
product appeals to a male
audience more than females as
usually products target one
gender more than the other.
More males responded than
females meaning that my
product does appeal to males
more than females.
I was also successful in that
nobody would have made
changes to my promotional
poster or digipak. This
means that my products
would be successful in the
music industry. People
would be attracted to the
poster resulting in them
watching the music video
and buying the album
(digipak).
100% of the responses said that it was extremely
easy to recognise that the promotional poster
and the digipak link to my music video. This
meant that my use of continuity, the same fonts
and colour schemes and characters worked well
and I achieved what I was aiming for.

  • 2. 100% of my responses guessed correctly that my music video is abstract. This means that I was successful in creating an abstract product. I’m very glad that it was recognisable as I tried hard not to include any narrative elements but still create something visually entertaining. I also didn’t include any performance elements, such as lip syncing or playing a musical instrument.
  • 3. My music video was also successful in which the audience could establish that it was of the indie genre. This is because I researched the conventions of indie music videos before hand so that I knew how to create my own of the same genre. Genre is very important to get right so that it appeals to your target audience. Therefore I am glad that it was easy to establish my video as ‘indie’. I think the biggest features that helped establish this was the use of filters, casual costumes for the characters and the locations all being outdoors in forests and around nature. Also the use of editing in post production looks ‘trippy’ which is psychedelic.
  • 4. I am glad that all respondents enjoyed my music video as it is a very catchy, fun song. I needed my video to live up to the upbeat song, so to hear that people enjoyed watching the video meant that it lives up to the song.
  • 5. I asked if anyone would make any improvements to the song and everybody that answered said that they wouldn’t make any changes. This I feel was generous myself but to get positive responses from the audience is helpful for making successful products that have potential in the music industry.
  • 6. For this multiple answer question I am glad that the audience were satisfied when watching my music video. I aimed to make the audience entertained, happy and nostalgic when watching the music video. All of these answers have been selected. I gave the audience a choice of negative options to pick in case I was unsuccessful in how I made the audience feel. I applied my knowledge of Bulmer and Katz ‘Uses and Gratifications theory’ to my product. I understand that how the audience may view my product will be different to one another due to their personal experiences and beliefs.
  • 7. My ancillary texts were also successful in the fact that 100% of the responses said that they would by my products. This means that the use of continuity and understanding of the genre and what the audience expects from a music video has paid off.
  • 8. I answered this question so that I could understand how old the people answering my survey were. By finding out this I can see what age groups answered and saw my products and understand how they felt about it as different age groups will most likely respond in their own ways. All of the respondents were of the age 16-21, this means that they were most likely students. This is my target audience as the music video includes characters of the same age group meaning that it will mostly appeal to this age group.
  • 9. By finding out the gender I can also establish who was attracted to my products. I included the male character on both the promotional poster and the digipak but in the music video there is both the male and female. I did this so that my product appeals to a male audience more than females as usually products target one gender more than the other. More males responded than females meaning that my product does appeal to males more than females.
  • 10. I was also successful in that nobody would have made changes to my promotional poster or digipak. This means that my products would be successful in the music industry. People would be attracted to the poster resulting in them watching the music video and buying the album (digipak).
  • 11. 100% of the responses said that it was extremely easy to recognise that the promotional poster and the digipak link to my music video. This meant that my use of continuity, the same fonts and colour schemes and characters worked well and I achieved what I was aiming for.
