I have also talked aboutthis section in question 3 ofmy evaluation;
Within my market research as well as asking people whatthey’d like in their ideal music video, etc I
then sent another survey within
a focus group on facebook to
find out what people think ofmy
music video. Idecided to gain
audience feedback ofmy first
initial draft editin order to gain a
response from people and their
opinion ofhow it looks, giving
them the opportunity to suggest
improvements. When collecting
audience feedback we decided
the mostproductive way to do
so was through a focus group on
facebook in which I included the
video link from youtube along
with the link to survey monkey in
which they would click on and
answer some questions about
the video they will have watched before hand.
I added 22 people into the group which made 23 people
including myself, This number of people ranged between
teenagers and 50 year olds ofboth genders, however notall
of those in which I addressed answered.
The questions in which I asked within my survey include
‘what is your gender; and ‘what is your age’ these were the
first two opening questions in which I asked, the reason for
this was so that I could gain an understanding of whether the
music video appealed to all ages and genders.
The 3rd question which was on my survey was ‘do you like
our initial draft edit., followed by the fourth question which
was ‘do you think the video is appropriate for the genre of
pop music’. The fifth question on my survey was ‘can you
relate to this video?, does the video influence you in any way’, followed by ‘do you think the colour
scheme is effective?’ and ‘what do you like mostaboutthe video?’ the eighth
question was whether or not they would recommend the video to a friend. The
9th question was ‘what do you rate our video outof10?, the final question asks
for their input on how to improve the video.
The first two questions that I asked helped me identify the gender and the age ofthose who were
responding to my draft edit, this benefited me massively as Iwas able to assess individual responses
and therefore was able to match further questions
such as whether or notthey were able to relate to
it, to the gender and age.
11 of my 15 respondents were female and 3 were
male, im unaware why one person skipped this
question, similar to the age range question as
someone skipped this too. However Iwas able to
identify that noone who watched my video was
below 16 or above 50, in my opinion, the reason I
did notsend the link of the video to those under 16
and over 50 as the video is aimed towards young
adults who are just turning 18 as that is the legal
age to drink, which is seen frequently in the video.
If I wanted to gain more responses from a the other age groups, Iwould send the survery to more
people. The following question in which I asked was whether or not they liked the initial draft edit,
thankfully, none ofthe 15 respondents skipped
this question, and I received 100% ofanswers
as yes. This enabled be to know that me and my
team were on the right track towards making a
successful music video, within this question, Ialso
left the respondentthe option to enter their reason
why, which I received 13 comments leftas to why
they liked it. This was useful to me as I was able to
see what people were enjoying and identified what
we were doing well aswell as what we should put
more ofinto our video, which is why we decided to putmore splitscreens in it.
The fourth question on my survey asked the respondents whether or not they believed the video was
appropriate for the genre ofpop music which again, 100% said yes to. These answers again shown me
that my team and I was on the correcttrack to
making a pop music video.
These questions had no negative answers which
made me really happy with my results.
However the fifth question stated that 4 of the 15
respondents did notfeel that they could relate to the
video, however after analysing individual responses,
I was able to identify that 3 of those who said no
were of an older age, which means they will have
said this due to the fact that they are not in the same
age range. However after configuring my results
with each of my team members, one ofthem
received results which stated that some respondents
who were older could relate to itas they felt they
could reflecton their life in their teenage years.
Each ofmy team members asked a very similar question in their surveys aboutthe colour scheme in
our video,
The question that I asked was whether they found the colour scheme effective, a 100% of everyone
asked between the three ofus said yes, which meantthat we had chose this very well.
There was also a comments box in which allowed people to answer as to why they found this effective,
people believe thatthe colours are brightand fun and that they representthe colour ofthe main
character as she is female and the colour scheme is pink. This is exactly what we wanted to portray.
The next question Iasked was ‘what do
you like mostaboutthe video’, Iasked
this so that I could putmore into the
video whatpeople liked, which from the
comments shown the special effects,
the use ofpink and the splitscreens
was liked.
I then asked for a rating outof 10 in
which they would give our draft editso
far. Noone answered any lower than 7.
The majority ofvotes were between 8
and 9, which was what we were hoping
for, so that we could receive ideas on
how to improve which I will discuss
within the final question.
The next question that I asked was would
you recommend the video to a friend, which
14 people said yes, however unfortunately,
one person said no
After reading the comments, there were no
negative statements as to why they wouldn’t
recommend the video to a friend, there were
only positive comments
However after reading individual responses,Inoticed
that the person who said no, was aged between 41
and 50, so this could be due to their age.
The final question which was on my survey was the mostimportant, I learned the mostfrom this
question abouthow I could improve
it.
These answers were key in helping
us create and editour video to the
maximum potential
The comments include including
clearer clips, and including a more
professional shottype. After seeing
these responses, we learned thatit
would look much better to have a
distinct difference between clear
shots, and the home made video
we were trying to show, we then
came up with the idea ofshowing
the main character the morning
after, looking back on her evening.
Positive comments include that it
should justbe longer as our draft
editwas only a quatre of the song,
however the final productwas the
full length.However other than this,
people stated that it was great how
it is.
The use of marketresearch helped me massively as my team and I were able to identify what people
did and didn’tlike aboutit, although noone mentioned anything that they did notlike. This therefore
enabled us to improve our video to match what people mentioned.
