30 questionnaires sent out at random
and were sent out to our year 13 sixth
form students which were not
specifically chosen making it more
reliable. Although our questionnaire
was created to fit our target audience
so the questions we used weren’t
unnecessary.
Audience research:
Data Analysis
We could not give our
questionnaires to the
entire sixth form as it
was too time constraining.
Age
Females aged 17 14
Females aged 18 0
Males aged 17 13
Males aged 18 3
We had targeted year 13 beforehand which were
aged 17-18 and there was more males than females
that took part in the questionnaire. Although, all
females who took part were all aged 17. The chart
just shows the participants aged 17-18 suggesting
the market audience is quite youthful.
A reason why we didn’t really target any older than
this category because our music video would
appeal to a more youthful audience especially since
the artist from which we chose the song from is
young themselves.
This shows that this data was more male dominated
at 53.3% but only by 6.6% compared to females
although we did only ask 30 people.
However, since the figures are very similar I have to
make sure that when I produce my music video it
should appeal to both genders of my target
audience.

What type of music video do you prefer?
14 (46.7%)of the participants preferred a mixture rather than
an abstract music video (which got the least with just 4
votes). They had most likely chosen a mixture as it literally
means what it says a ‘mixture’ suggesting that the creativity
would not be limited as all three different elements would
included in a music video. This would generally make the
music video stand out capturing the attention of their target
audience. Ordinarily a mixture music video tend to break the
stereotypical rules.
Performance was close behind as some do like to see the
actual artist performing which may give off a more authentic
feel. This would help me in my final product as now i know
what my target audience would prefer and cater to what
they enjoy the most.
How important
Response Number
Not really, I can listen to a
piece of music without the
video

Very important, I can’t listen
to a piece of music without
the video

It depends on the song 17
Over half of the participants responded with ‘it
depends on the song’ suggests that 56/. 7%
participants like having a music video with a
song however it determines on the type of song
they listen to.
Whereas, 40% responded that they could listen
to music without watching the video which
means when I produce my music video I would
have to make it such that they would have to
watch it and in order to do that it would have to
be different and non-stereotypical.
Although a small number of participants said
that it was very important which suggests that
some of my potential target audience would
watch our music video if they liked the music or
wanted to listen to it.
Does social media…
Response Number
Yes 13
No 17
Most people stated no that social media doesn’t have an
influence which can be quite odd especially for young people in
this day and age. However, this may be due to the audience we
had targeted as they are year 13 sixth form students who don’t
have a lot of time on their hands as they tend to be more
focused on their education.
Does social media have any influence on
whether or not you view and share a music
video?
State why...
11/30 mentioned viral success and
popularity of the artist/song, as well their
liking for being able to share it with others.
11/30 stated that they didn’t care about
sharing content/viewing shared content and
would rather search the videos on YouTube
suggesting that they are quite submissive
as they would only like it for themselves.
8/30 gave no answer or an irrelevant
answer which avoided the question’s focus.
How do you find out
50% stated that they found out about an artist releasing a music video
on youtube suggesting that that is the best area for our music video
video to be released. This is because it's a well known platform which
is also easily accessible suggesting almost anyone can view the
content as there isn’t age limit to use this platform which shows that it
would also be suitable for a younger audience. From youtube the
audience would be also able to share for others to find out but also if
a lot of people were to watch it could become a trending video or
even put down as a recommendation.

Would you be more intrigued..
The majority of the people (66.7%), said yes suggesting that the if the
music video had elements of a film it would make it interesting
especially those who love watching films. Also, if the music video of a
movie soundtrack came out before the film it would spark attention
from those who are eager to watch the film creating promotion for
bothe the artist and the film. Some people like the different look to a
music video as these sort of music videos aren’t the same as the any
other music videos. 33.3% said no which most likely suggests that
they generally couldn't be more intrigued if the music video is part the
movie soundtrack.

Collaborations
96.7% which is almost everyone said that
collaboration artist help reach a wider
audience which is very beneficial as it
would promote the artists.

Areas considered unsuitable?
Most people had responded that nudity/ sex was the most
unsuitable in a music video which suggests we can’t have
any form of this in our music video would limit our target
audience but also the potential wider audience. Although
some elements of these that are suggested are included in
some of today’s music video which would make it quite
controversial which could gain a lot of attention either
positively and negatively.

60% said it depended on the music video whether or
not it should be parent advisory. I think most said this
as we did ask older students so they would know what
would be appropriate to watch and what not to.

Restrictions on social media
Again most people (which were 16 out of the thirty people we
asked) said it also depended on the type music video shared.
Although there was a fair amount of people (26.7%) who think
social media platforms shouldn’t have an age restriction as most
likely anyone of any age can view that same music video on a
different platform but also it when registering they would
automatically restrict you if you’re underage. However, a lot of the
younger generation get social media as it is what's trendy so they
can easily lie about their age to watch the music video. The 20%
who think they should have age restrictions on social media
platforms may not be as effective with today's generation.
