2. The target audience for my magazine was teenagers and young adults
aged 12-30.Targeted at both male or female. In a way readers could say
my magazine was targeted more at males than females as all my models
presented were male. In relation to what radio stations, websites and TV
channels my demographic would involve themselves with would be along
the lines of Radio Afrobeats or DJ Abrantee, Afrobeats 360 and Vox
Africa. These different platforms all represent Afrobeats and therefore
relate to my the demographic of teenagers and young adults.
3. My target audience would be seen shopping at stores like River Island,
Top man/Topshop, H&M, Zara. There would also be seen wearing
necklaces that in the colours of famous African countries e.g. Nigeria,
Ghana, Congo etc. My target audience would shop at these stores in an
attempt to imitate Afrobeat artists. Afrobeat’s fashion sense has a mixture
e.g. their artists may dress American one day, British the next day and
African the following day. So my target audience has a variety to choose
from. Due to this my target audience won’t pay that much importance or
attention to the clothes worn by my models simply because Afrobeats in a
way has no rules.
4. The social class of the demographic is the working class as this is the
class usually accustomed to listening not just to Afrobeats but purchasing
the magazine also, though despite all this the magazine is still available
to the masses( anyone can buy it). The magazine will immediately attract
the attention of young black people, particularly with a African heritage,
though everyone is entitled to purchase it. I feel this magazine would
appeal to both genders simply as there is no restriction in relation to
sexuality or gender, though all my models are male.
5. Age is not the only most important factor you have to
take in to account when constructing a magazine, you
have to take in to account other vital information such as
ethnicity, region and gender.
I know that my magazine meets its target audience due
to my case study Michael Amodu.
• Michael is aged 17, black British and Nigerian.
• He is in part time work earning minimum wage
• He is a typical young African boy that enjoys his
cultural music (Afrobeats).
Things that relate to not just Michael but perhaps his
family have been implemented in to this magazine to
ensure his interests are met.
