Audience Categories
Demographics
Billboards target audience seems to be around males and females, mainly focusing
on the age range rather than the gender. The target audience seems to mainly be
around the teen to young adults range. This is because is the popular and up to date
artists that are always on the front cover because they are relatable into the target
audience's life as they have probably listened to at least one of the artists songs
before. The social class billboard aims for the audience to be would be D (working
class), C2 (skilled working class) and C1 (lower middle class). This is because these
are the type of people that are in with all the new trends stereotypically and are more
into top chart music which is what billboard presents their front covers as being
towards.
Psychographics
I think Billboard intent to attracts a lot of Aspirers. This mainly comes from the fact
that the magazine is very current and up to date and is a trending magazine. so
aspirers read this seeking for new trends, up to date artists and the latest fashion and
Billboard provides that. i also think that some Explorer/Individualists would fit into the
target audience as they are the people always looking for different things to what
they are used to.
Lifestyles
Mainly YAKS (Young, Adventurous, keen and single) would read this magazine as
Billboard is catered towards the teen/young adult age that are up to into trending and
up to date fashion/music. also as it is very specific in the contents it puts forward and
makes a bold statement of that on its front covers then pulling in the adventurous
people looking for new things.
Demographics
Vibe magazine attracts the teen/young adult age range similar to Billboard. It boldly
displays current artists who are doing well in the industry and these are the types of
people this age range would listen too if they fall into the correct psychographic
category. From the covers I have chose as a example vibe magazine only features
male artist, however they do use female artists as well but from what I have chosen
they all ended up being of male artists. Vibe magazine attracts both men and woman
being as the male artists under the pop genre usually attract a stronger female fan
base than male. These kind of people reading this magazine fit under the B (Middle-
class), C1 ( Lower Middle-class), C2 ( Skilled Working-class) and D (Working-class).
Psychographics
I would say that the majority of readers are going to be mainstreamers. This is
because Vibe magazine displays the artists doing well and who are in the charts,
therefore everyone will be listening to these artists and the odd are that people found
out about both the artists and magazine from someone else whether it is a family
member or friend. You could argue that the aspirers could be attracted to this
magazine as they want to be on trend and have the latest up to date artists which the
magazine provides.
Lifestyles
Again the same as Billboard magazine the main target audience of Vibe magazine is
going to be YAKS (Young, adventurous, keen and single). This is because most
teens want to do what everyone else is doing and want to do what all the latest
Artists And celebrities are doing which make them both keen to do so but
adventurous at that thought of doing so. As most teens are single they want to be up
to date and with the trend maybe to try and impress girls and make themselves more
established within their social groups.
