2. Does you magazine use conventions from
other professional magazine that might help
attract an audience
Masthead
The main title for the
magazine you’re selling. It is
to be bold, big and thick. I
also never goes over the
main image.
Sell Lines
These are implemented
rather briefly as a form of an
article in order to reveal what
is inside the magazine
Headline
The headline is placed to
relate to the main image
providing a brief insight on
the specific details in the
main article.
Barcode
Every magazine consists of a
barcode with an issue number
usually in several currencies
3. Masthead
I used my masthead in order to
attract my audience as it
connotes the genre of hip-hop.
The name it self provides a clear
indication that this magazine is
based on hip-hop with a rather
short and quick to remember
name “Trademarked”. I used a
paint mark font as it managed to
work as a hip-hop magazine
despite being different to the
typical masthead titles such as
“VIBE” etc
Headline
Seeing the headline is the
go ahead part of a
magazine I made sure it
was bald and attractive
alternating between black
and red. I used a short
dramatic sentence to create
suspense across the
headline to make it
attractive and appealing to
the reader making them
buy the product.
Strap Line
As seen in usual
magazine’s I decided to
implement this idea to
entice the reader to
Using the pronoun “Your”
to involve the reader
personally will create a
sudden appeal to the
magazine instantly.
Sell Lines
I made it clear that I
would make my sell lines
as short as possible yet
interesting at the same
time. I used short
dramatic sentences to
attract the reader quickly
and efficiently “There’s no
limit”
Main Image
I managed to make the main image and headlines
work together efficiently as the main image creates a
sudden curiosity to the magazine with the close up
shot of my model enticing the reader along with the
headline increasing the appeal even more. “I’m not
done yet” develops a hand in hand combination
between the image and headline.
Button
As my magazine is used to keep my
audience updated I used a button
with tickets to a famous artist gig
making it likely for them to pick up
the magazine for that purpose.
4. Did you choose language techniques, layout design, font, colours,
locations, props, costumes and models to communicate particular
idea to your audience?
Colours
Through my survey I
decided to use the
colours Red, Black
and White as my
audience believed
these three colours
would work well
together making the
magazine more hip-
hop
Fonts
I took advantage of the
dissolve effect on my
masthead to keep my
magazine consistent
throughout. I also
managed to maintain a
font selection to just
three in order to keep the
reader in the magazine
without confusing them.
Models
I attempted to make my
target demographic rather
equal by involving different
ethnic groups despite not
involving a female model.
This will help keep my
magazine unbiased.
Layout Design
I kept my layout simple
and effective just like
other hip-hop magazine
making my magazine
easier to comprehend and
manoeuvre around the
magazine.
Location Design
As for my location choice, I went with
the typical location of a dark and blurry
location such as in the park or around
certain apartments in which I took
them at night to conform to the
conventions of hip-hop
