Question 4/5
1. Who are your target audience and
how did
you attract and address them?
2. This is George, he is a typical reader of my magazine.
He is 18 (typical age of my readers is 14-24). He likes
going to gigs with his friends and finding new bands and
artists. He loves reading my magazine because he contains a
lot of people and music he is interested in. He really enjoys
when we do features on his favourite bands; these bands
include Arctic monkeys, PEACE, Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club,
PalmaViolets and The Cribs. His interest in these bands come
from being involved in music groups at school and influence
from his friends. They are all also going to Glastonbury this
year. Another feature he likes in my magazine is the up and
coming section, it does features on bands who will are
considered to be the future of indie music, bands that have
featured includeYak, JAWS and SUPERFOOD. His idol is Harry
Koisser the lead singer of peace, he loves their music and
style. The last gig he went to wasThe Cribs atThe Fleece in
Bristol, he described it “An amazing experience”.

When researching what the

I looked at my competitors target
audiences built it around theirs :

• The magazine targets men
ages 15-24
• They are predominantly male
with 60%
• The majority of Kerrang readers

averse, they are active

media and fashion.
• On average they buy 31 albums
a year
4. After researching and finding
who my typical readers are I
was able to develop my
magazine to their (average age
is 18 &male) needs. I did this
through a few things :
Font: I made my font clear and easy to read,
my font also made my magazine seem
mature, this then meant my readers didn’t
feel as if the magazine was written for
children with no idea.
Colours: I had very few colours on my cover,
contents and article, I felt it would distract
from the information or images, so my
reader would find it hard to concentrate and
it may feel childish will a lot of colours.
Content: Again my content was
sophisticated, written for a reader with
a keen interest in music that want to
read about gigs, up and coming bands
and interviews.
Images: I wanted my images to
represent a certain style and social
group, I had my model wear particular
clothes so it would appeal to my target
audience. I also tired to give variety in
the photos e.g. different outfits+ poses
5. To make my magazine appeal to
my readers as much as possible I
had to make a connection
between the magazine and the
reader.
Language-The language in my magazine needed to represent a
certain age group, to this I had to use a certain vocabulary.
Deciding to use this pull quote made the magazine less formal as
the use of swearing makes the magazine feel as if it was written
by somebody the same age of the reader. This makes for a better
enjoyment of reading.
Headline/ name- I kept it sort and simple as young people today are
too lazy to read long titles. I also wanted it to stand out without
overpowering it with multiple colours. This way it will catch the
readers eye and have look at the magazine further.
