2. How does you magazine target the market demographic(age, gender,
ethnicity, region, class, sexuality, physical ability)?
The market demographic for my magazine are aged between 16-25. My magazine
represents the age demographic I want to use because of the people that I have used as
my models, that are also suited to the age range which consumers can relate to. I have
also used informal language which I think will be easy for my age range to understand
because I haven’t used a slang words therefore it is easy for the consumers aged
between 20-25.
My magazine contains contents for both female and male gender because I have used a
mixture of models. Furthermore the colours that I have used represent both genders
such as; blue, burgundy, black and white which are all unisex colours. My colour
scheme subverts stereotypical colours for example female colour is pink and male
colour is green. This has allowed me to target a more broader variety of audience to
consume my magazine.
My magazine conforms to the typical Black /African/Caribbean culture I think it was
good to do this because they are mostly shown in the R&B music magazines. However
I made sure my artists have a range of races so it allows my consumers to know that
my magazine is not targeted when it comes to ethnicity.
3. XXL DATA
• Since XXL is the
magazine that I
chose to be my
publishers. I have
also researched
their audience
profile which is
also suitable for
my magazine it
shows that 83% of
the demographics
are 21+.
4. Age can be determine the target audience but it is
not the only or the most important factor?
• The demographic fro R&B is normally young adults which allows
me to understand who my magazine is aimed to and how it should
look like. However I do not want my magazine to be limited to the
specific age group, it is open to the public and no matter what age
they are. Age is not the most important factor, other factors to also
think about in the R&B genre is ; gender ethnicity which are also
important the genre’s audience is becoming more global with a wide
range of ethnicities and a mixture of genders. The data on the
previous slide shows that only 22% of the consumers are females,
however as my magazine is targeted to both the male and female
gender I am hoping make the barriers between male and female more
fair and equal I have done this by making some elements of my
magazine to look feminine; for example my graffiti writing looks
neat but has a very edgy side to it which I think would attract the
female audience more.
5. Can you create a consumer profile for your magazine?
JENNIFER Jennifer loves listening to old school R&B
music, that was associated with Aaliyah,
R.kelly. She is currently a student but has a
part time job in Primark. This allows her to use
social media on the go using her smart phone,
laptop, new technology to access her media
accounts such as Twitter, Facebook and
Instagram. Her Twitter and Facebook music
pages allows her to have a direct relationship
with the R&B artists that she likes to listen to
and keeps her updated on all the latest news
about the artist. When she travels to work on
the train she likes reading blogs about the artist
as well as reading R&B magazines. She doesn’t
often get time to watch TV because she is
always on the go but she always keeps her
phone on her which allows her to access lot of
information about R&B music which keeps her
constantly updated.
