A talk given at the Oceanographers of the Future symposium in October, about using card methodologies in helping people create a range of different scenarios in order to better develop their future thinking capabilities.
This presentation was a keynote/training given to the Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority in 2011. It outlines the fundamental paradigm shift that underlies the Wise Economy Approach. And it's gotten more concise since then, thankfully. Phew.

The raising amount data exhaust of the past years has created the need for more and better tools to analyze what lies within this massive amount of raw material. Visualization leveraging the human cognition proves to be an invaluable tool to explore, digest, analyze and communicate the information. We reveal patterns, trends, relations or dependencies that were buried before.
But, what happens after we have created such an elaborate and powerful visualization and released it to the world? How does the it affect the beholder? How does it help shaping his opinions or even changing his behavior? Because, at the end of the day, visualization is simply a means to an end — a tool to achieve a bigger goal.
Chance and fate in making the connections that ignite the creative spark. At one time or other we all will call on inspiration, support and/or ‘reality checks’ from others with a different perspective, or perhaps wish we had done in hindsight! Some thoughts on how this can happen and how we might help develop an environment to increase the chances of it happening.

At InsightNG, we’re always thinking about the future. While our innovative platform has the potential to help solve real and complex problems, we’re aiming higher: we’re determined to empower everyone we touch. Our vision is to help people improve their understanding of the complex challenges or subject matter they encounter every day - whether at school, work or at home.
At InsightNG we’re excited at the possibility of bridging the gap between people and technology: bringing together the wealth of human experience and knowledge and the incredible advances of technology to create something altogether new.
We anticipate a future where people and intelligent technology work together to solve specific problems and challenges – your challenges. The technology we’ve developed, Your Smartest Friend, understands your life, your context.
Our ultimate goal is to create the Cognitive Fabric of a Global Brain, that harnesses distributed intelligence to facilitate the expansion of human understanding and the flexibility in the way each of us perceives the challenges we face.
This discussion document is intended to share our thinking and seek out like-minded individuals or organizations who would like chat or collaborate around areas of mutual interests.

Data is the new oil There's a firehose of data We're looking for the fountain of wisdom
The situation is quite fluid Our thinking is a bit stagnant What’s happening below the surface?
