According to the text, it says that liability for contracts formed by an agent depends on how the

Analysis Of Stanley Cohen s Folk Devils And Moral Panics
The term Moral Panic was an expression created by Stanley Cohen in his 1972 book Folk devils and
Moral Panics . Cohen, who was a sociology professor at the University of Essex in the 60s, developed
the concept of Moral Panic as a way to describe the media coverage of the violence that spawned
between two rival youth gangs (the Mods and the Rockers) and to explain the following societal
reaction to that era s adolescent sub culture.
Since then the term has been regularly used in the media to refer to all sorts of anti social and criminal
behaviours. The use of media can create unnecessary panic about a range of different subjects, one of
the most popular being drugs.
At around the same time as Cohen s original research and study, a man named Jock Young, another
sociologist and criminologist (and a co author with Cohen of later studies including The Manufacture
of News 1981), explored the moral panic that developed around the drug use of hippies in the mid to
late 60s.
In particular he researched and examined the social reaction to the use of marijuana in the Notting Hill
area of West London and described the process of deviance amplification which is a process that
occurs as a consequence of a moral panic over a specific type of behaviour. In a nutshell, deviance
amplification is reinforcing the effect that happens as a result of a negative social reaction to such
criminal or deviant behaviour (i.e, drug use) and this happens on a daily basis in the media,

Essay about The Effects Of Media On Preschoolers
The use of media (television, video games, phones, music, and computers) by young children is
becoming more and more common in everyday life. Children are in front of media screens now more
than anytime in history. Parents are allowing, encouraging, and promoting the use of media in many
forms. There are endless sources available for parents to purchase for the use with infants, toddlers,a
nd preschoolers from movies to games and videos. (Ravichandran, France de Bravo, 2010, Yound
Children and Screentime .) Although these media tupes are readily available, whether they be for
entertainment or educational use, are they really in the children s best interest? According to the

(Ravichandran, France de Bravo, 2010, Yound Children and Screentime .) Young children learn
through play and interacting with people. If we want bright, intelligent, and active children with
phenomenal imaginations we have to take and make time to play with them and turn the media off.
Play allows children to learn, the wiring connections in their brains depends on them playing,
imagining and interacting with human beings. Play prepares them for real life. It s where children
work out their problems in order to deal with life. If children spend their time in front of screens and
interacting with media then it is not spent in play and the various brain connections are not being
connected, resulting in learing and attention problems. Children also learn from moving and doing.
When they are interacting with media they are usually not moving and doing. During a 2year
longitudinal study where media exposure was recorded, both violent and educational, were found and
associated with physical aggression, verbal aggression and relational aggression according to the
gender of the children. It was determined that media exposure predicted various types of aggression
and prosocial behavior according to gender. To their amazement girls were much more likely to
engage in and be victimized by relational and verbal aggression than boys, especially if other girls
were present.Whereas boys were much more likely to participate in physical aggression than girls,

The Importance Of Industrialization
The early 19th century was a time of technological innovations that took the United States to a new
level of commerce. During this time, the cotton gin, steamboats, power looms, and even the telegraph
were invented (Swen). As these inventions continued to improve the way of life, the nation continued
to spread northeast and west to discover new land. Where a stagecoach may have taken months to
transport goods from east to west, the railroad could transport the merchandise cross country in just a
few days. Lastly, communication through the telegraph simplified the need for the pony express.
Although these inventions changed how these people lived their life, was it all for the best? Were
sacrifices made as individuals, as a family, or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now instead of controlling their own future, the nation will become dependent on other people to
succeed in life. Factories did not just hire the man of the family, it hired the whole family. Children
worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first started at Samuel
Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could get under the machinery
and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young
women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would
leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to
protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with
thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room.
Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet
Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms
they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than
slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory
owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. This created family conflict because
not all factories were on the same schedule.

Anti War Movement
Firstly there was a massive group of people that protested in New York City during April 15th 1967.
There were approximately: 100,000 125,000 individuals who marched from Central Park to the United
Nations Building to demand an end to American military operations in Vietnam (Scott, 2004). The anti
war demonstrations offered the opportunity for twenty Vietnam veterans to escort their movement. In
addition the veterans jubilantly agreed to lead the assembly of anti war protestors which
conspicuously portrayed a sign that mentioned Vietnam Veterans against the War (Scott, 2004).
Henceforth there were six of the Vietnam veterans who had led the anti war movement who decided to

Their anti war efforts could have resulted in diminishing the public s opinion about the foreign
conflict and ultimately influencing local, state and federal politicians to seriously consider passing
legislature that would have concluded the Vietnam War. In addition there was the lingering reality that
there were many American s who legitimately questioned the underlying reasoning behind the
implementation and the direction of the Vietnam war effort. Finally the Vietnam conflict had officially
ended on April 30th, 1975. Furthermore the conflict had lasted for close to twenty years since the war
officially began on November 1st 1955. In closing I genuinely hope that there is not another war that
is reminisce of the Vietnam Conflict partly because there had been a large percentage of innocent
Vietnam civilians who had accidentally been slain by American soldiers who were fighting against the
notorious Vietcong insurgents. The civilian causalities from U.S. Actions ran from 100,000 in 1965 up
to 300,00 in 1968, just from bombing and artillery (). Hench forth I can recall from viewing historical

LDCT Screening
According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for
detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be
effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography
(LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings
would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and
Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly
decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the
expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who ... Show more content

Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By
measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending
expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers
that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are
involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer
patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with
LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but
since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT
testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for
LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA
refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study
indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA
analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and
whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of
cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet
proved to be a replacement for LDCT

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe
ARCHITECTURAL BOUNDARIES: LUDWIG MIES VAN DER ROHE AND PHILIP JOHNSON
Architecture has undergone a rapid and revolutionary transformation in the modern era. Through the
work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, this essay attempts to chart the transition in architecture from
nineteenth century Romanticism and Neoclassicism to High Modernism. Mies van der Rohe redefined
architectural boundaries and emphasised the beauty of simple forms, the importance of functionality
and the versatility of new materials such as glass, steel and marble. An analysis of the work of Philip
Johnson reveals the development from High Modernism to Postmodernism, where playful and ironic

By contrasting steel columns and wooden cabinets in the Farnsworth House (1945‐50, Plano, Illinois),
Mies van der Rohe freed architects from the constraints of conventional nineteenth century design
paradigms.15 The combination of charcoal black steel girders and walls of glass in the ITT Crown
Hall (1950‐6, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago) is another example of how he revolutionised
architecture from the highly decorative and fussy buildings of the nineteenth century, to the stylish
cubic shapes we recognise today.16 Windows were replaced with exterior glass surfaces and steel
girders were used to remove internal supporting columns, thus opening interior space within the
building.17 Low partitioned walls separated teaching classes in the ITT Crown Hall but facilitated
communication between students and teachers.18 The building was extremely functional as it could be
adapted to serve unanticipated purposes.19 New materials allowed Mies van der Rohe to dramatically
alter the conventional boundaries of architecture. One of Mies van der Rohe s greatest contributions to
the architectural profession has been the innovative steel frame vernacular, which to this day

Personal Narrative-The National High School Cheerleading...
We spend 720 minutes, 12 hours, and 6 days a week mentally and physically preparing for a 2 minutes
and 30 second routine. Our talent becomes unbeatable, and we as a team become unstoppable. The
countless hours, hundreds upon hundreds of repetitions, blood, sweat, and tears all become worth it.
We are the Lowell Red Devils, and with that name, we carry proud alumni that came before us. We
were not always so memorable in the cheerleading world though. This past year we set a goal of
making it to The National High School Cheerleading Championships, in Orlando Florida. To get to
this competition we had to qualify in December, not only did we qualify but we placed first out of 15

all you ve got. If you walk off that floor without any regrets, thats all I could have ever wanted.

Theme Of Nature In The Red Pony

Final Paper #6
Discuss Steinbeck s theme of nature and man s place in it in the Red Pony. Use specific
quotes/examples from the story to indicate the points the author is making.
Nature In the Red Pony
Nature ignores human desire. The Red Pony is a short novel that consists four stories of a family
living on a western American ranch. In the book, the central theme is the cycle of life and death. All
four stories center on the phenomenon of nature. The principal issue of The Red Pony is the
exploration of man s complicated relationship with nature. It is presented through Jody s maturation.
For Steinbeck, all life, including human, is bound together. Even though people can occasionally make
decisions and change the circumstances, nature, indeed, is the leader of the whole novel and the world.
The Red Pony is filled with descriptions of natural phenomena weather, animals, and plants reflecting
events in the story. At the beginning of the Gift, Steinbeck emphasizes at daybreak Billy Buck
emerged from the bunkhouse, which shows that people wake up to work when the sun rises and goes
off to rest when the run draws. This indicates that nature controls human. As the story flows,
Steinbeck introduces the environment in the ranch as The Crow ... Show more content on

head. It was westering and westering. Every man wanted something for himself, but the big beast that

Examples Of Seasons In The Great Gatsby
Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring usually seasons would not mean much to a person. In the book How To
Read Literature Like A Professor, the author, Thomas.C Foster, explains how seasons could be more
than just a an indicator of the weather. Seasons of the year could tell many characteristics of a
character. During books the seasons could give an insight on the emotions of a character, the age, or
the time it may be taking place. In Fosters book he gives an example of just how the seasons of the
year could impact a book. Although many people may associate weather or holidays with the seasons
authors make it very clear that seasons are more than this. In The Great Gatsby, F.Scott Fitzgerald, the
author, also includes the seasons to symbolize these things throughout his book. First people ... Show

Foster gives an example of a an poem and how the author uses the fall to winter to symbolize his age.
Shakespeare wrote a poem called Sonnet 73. In this poem a man is coming to the realization of his
age. The poem states That time of the year thou mayst in me behold, when yellow leaves,or none, or
few, do hang upon those boughs which shake against the cold: bare, ruined chords, where late the
sweet birds sang. The man is comparing his life to the falling leaves on the tree. They both were so
full of life, but now they are not. The leaves falling are is symbol of the man s hair falling out. Foster
says Shakespeare is really talking about, namely the speakers standing on the edge of old age.

Leadership Reflection For Senior Leadership
According to the Introduction to Strategic Studies Course Directive, This year presents an opportunity
to walk in the shoes of senior leaders making difficult and complex decisions before you begin
wearing them upon graduation. From the above sentence I can conclude that, this paper could be the
beginning of my journey to wear the higher level leaders shoes. As I am now starting preparation for a
future senior leadership assignment, I have to equip myself with the required knowledge and skills in
order to act as senior military leader.
Therefore, Thomas Galvin outlines four mission specific roles and senior military leaders should also
take lessons from history, like from The Gulf War, 1990 1991, .
The four roles are, a strategic advisor and communicator, a strategic planner, a strategic theorist, and
senior leader at the strategic level. So that this paper will focus mainly on my reflection towards to the
first two mission specific roles.
Therefore, my choice from the roles are the strategic advisor and communicator, and the strategic
planner because working to exercise these roles would have more benefit to jump for the rest two
roles. From the case study, I have selected General Collin Powel and General H. Norman
Schwarzkopf roles from the case study. In order to link and reflect my future area that should be

Saint Brigid s Centre For The Arts
Saint Brigid s Centre for the Arts in Ottawa was formally called St. Brigid s Church as a Roman
Catholic Church which was designed and built by architect John. R. Bowes and his son, James Bowes
together. After 2007, the church was closed and now uses for all kinds of artistic, cultural and social
events such as concerts, plays or art exhibitions. The architectural plan of the church was rectangular
Roman basilica with twelve compound piers with transverse aisle on either side crossing the

Among Architecture terms, a vault is an arch shaped structure used to provide an enclosed space with

Superstructure In Slaughterhouse Five
In addition to absurd beliefs, Vonnegut also exaggerates the interactions between social classes and the
simplified portrayals of members of different social classes to reveal the consequences of the
continuation of these classes. From the events of his novels and the causes of those events, Vonnegut
notes that the need for the dissolution of the classes is needed not for the sake of equality but also for
the sake of survival. To begin, Vonnegut makes use of the relationship between the base and
superstructure in his novels. The base refers to the means of production while the superstructure refers
to society as a whole, institutions such as religion and education are members of the superstructure. In

The fatal results of said beliefs and interactions demands change not for lofty ideals but for survival of

the upper class, the danger lies in the lower class being made to produce goods and services for the
upper class while not being able to access said goods and services themselves. When comparing the

motivation of the members. The Occupy Wall Street movement ultimately faded as the core
motivation for equality and fairness faded, it lacked the need for survival. The 2017/18 Iranian

Selective Military Draft
Conscription was first used in the United States during the American Civil War. The Union sought
troops by offering cash rewards to enlistees. Support for conscription was not widespread in the North,
and public resistance culminated in the Draft Riot of 1863. Afterward the draft was suspended with the
end of the war in 1865, and it would not return until the beginning of world war I. The restitution of
the draft was the result of U.S. entry into World War I in April 1917. The Selective Service Act, signed
by President Woodrow Wilson on May 18, 1917, created the Selective Service System. In the

Prior to the expiration of the draft in 1973, our country sent the military overseas 27 times. Since 1973
with an all volunteer military we have deployed troops 175 times. This is because it is easier to send
into battle those who have chosen the military as their occupation, instead of sending into battle those
who have not. Charles Rangel, the most senior member of the US House of Representatives, weighed
in on the matter, saying Too few of the country s leaders have a personal stake in the well being of the
Armed Forces. This means that the leaders of today do not have that a personal attachment to the
wellbeing of the armed forces. He also said Since the end of the draft in 1973, every president,
Democrat and Republican alike, has approached warfare with the mind set of invading, occupying,
and expanding our nation s influence...We make decisions about war without worry over who fights
them. Those who do the fighting have no choice; when the flag goes up, they salute and follow orders.
This basically means that the leaders only have interest in the invasion and occupation of a land
without giving too much thought about soldiers. If the was a draft maybe the leader would care more
about when sending troops in.In conclusion draft should be reinstated because it would decrease the

Thank you for always being a great friend of mine. We always hangout, do fun things, and make great,

amount of evidence that can prove that Genetically Modified Organisms are not safe. Only 37 percent
of the American public believes that GM foods are safe to eat, while 88 percent of scientists believe
they are safe , according to a survey conducted in 2014 by the Pew Research Center. However the two
are completely different social injustices. If Genetically Modified Organisms are truly safe, why are
they not labeled? Monsanto spends millions of dollars to change the genetic material of natural seeds,
into genetically modified seeds and sells them to farmers to make their crops.

The Senate In The Film Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Frank Capra portrays many examples of the senate in Mr. smith Goes to Washington. Through the film
he uses characters with and without knowledge about the senate to explain the complexities of the
senate. There are good examples made to teach the audience what people do in the senate and how
bills are proposed and finalized. In addition, the film shows that the person you thought was your
friend in politics, goes behind your back. Senators may work together but in the end, it is each man for
himself. Frank Capra uses Senator Smith s character to let the audience understand how complex the
US congress. Through the film, Capra shows Senator Smith s journey going through senate and
coming up with ideas to further try and make them a bill. Smith s ... Show more content on

Smith s bill proposal for the last time. Capra showcases Smith s final stand as a filibuster to show how

have never let in the senate. However, he continues to speak about the Constitution of the United
States. Saunders helps Smith once again by passing information about the bill to as many people as
possible. The hard work Smith put towards the boy s camp set an example for the boys. Each boy

Native American Women Research Paper
No one wants to hear stories about domestic violence and sexual assault, but it s a big issue that needs
to be heard out, especially for Native American women. It is estimated that over thirty percent of
women in the general United States population have experienced domestic abuse and an even higher
percentage for just sexual assault, many of which are based on women of color, which primarily
consists of natives. This problem has been around for too long and there s still limited resources for
abuse victims, which needs to change. Too many women are put through abuse which could be
prevented if more people knew and were educated on what is happening and sexual assault as a whole.
A study from the Department Justice shows that 56% of 2,000 Native ... Show more content on

Deborah Parker, a former member of the Tulalip tribe s board of directors, now a speaker and activist
for social justice for indigenous women, says that there is no domestic violence education in
reservation schools. By not teaching what is happening in these kid s tribes, the cycle of abuse may
continue, and more and more generations of Native women will have to endure the abuse. The cycle
will be broken if more people are aware of the issue. First, there was the National Domestic Violence
Hotline with additional hotlines focused on certain areas of abuse, now there are hotlines specifically
aimed at helping Native American women along with Alaskan Natives. These resources help in many
ways, whether it s just communication and therapy, or helping these women out of their situations if
needed. Now what can we do, what can the country, or even just a small community do to help with
Native domestic abuse? People need to address the issue, even if it s uncomfortable because by talking
about it, more people will understand which can lead to the women affected finally getting help. A
simple way you can help is just by posting some information on your social media, if everyone does
so, more people will get the message and pass it on. Another way to contribute is by donating money
to domestic shelters that helps aid women and creates a safer environment for

Rise Of The Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan is known for its evil acts of terror and its firm control over the south. People,
though, may not know who they were and what they stood for and why the government wasn t
stopping them. I feel like they were able to commit such terrible acts of terror without fearing
retribution for a number of reasons. Firstly, it originally started as a social club for veteran confederate
soldiers. No one knew how horrible they d become until they became the terrible KKK. Additionally,
even when they were trying to be shut down, it was close to impossible to do so from the vast amount
of congregants. Lastly, the crimes committed became so second nature of the people, that it didn t
startle them anymore. The Ku Klux Klan was founded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s hard to recognize the fact that the government could not break them down and destroy them. It s
tough to understand how such atrocious behavior became the norm for people in that time period. It s
challenging to hear of such audacities and not get angry. It seems that through history, people of color
could not just live a free life, and that s difficult to take in. It seems, though, that some people did try
to stand up against the terrorist group but to no avail, they were unsuccessful. Thankfully today, we
don t have a fear of the Ku Klux Klan, even though some feel that they still exist, to some degree. The
point of looking back at this is to learn from the past and prevent for the future; and hopefully this will

Theodore Roosevelt s Flaws
Theodore Roosevelt the 26th president, and arguably one of the greatest presidents of all time.
Roosevelt went from being the 33rd governor of NY, to the vice president, and at 42 years of age, he
became the highly respected successor of President McKinley. Roosevelt later was elected for a
second term. Even though he achieved all these great things, there were surly challenges that laid in
his path to greatness. The challenges that Roosevelt faced he overcame through perseverance and
enforcing what he believed in. One of Roosevelt s most famous quotes is Speak softly and carry a big

Roosevelt was a true conservationist at heart. The Theodore Roosevelt Association stated, As a boy,
Theodore Roosevelt wanted to be a naturalist, a scientist who revels in and examines nature, and he

Lennie s Savior
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, tells the story of Lennie Small and George Milton, who are two
migrant ranch workers, moved from farm to farm in California trying to find new jobs. This story took
place in the United States during the Great Depression. In this essay, I argue that George should ve
shot Lennie because Curley was about to do ten times worse to the poor fella, he got the better end of
the deal. I can still tend the rabbits, Goerge? I didn t mean no harm, George, quoted from Lennie. That
just shows how innocent he really is, which is another reason that George killing Lennie was really a
saving of torture for the guy. All he cared about was tending those rabbits and he deserved a peaceful
death! George was right to kill Lennie, his intentions were to save Lennie from a worse fate. He really

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a non preventable inflammatory neurodegenerative demyelinating disease.
The pathogenesis of MS is a debatable topic and still needs to be better understood. (1,3) .
In histological assessments, both the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes are damaged and attacked by
cells of the immune system. Both, the humoural and cellular immune responses, are present. First a T
cell phagocytic reaction by macrophages and targets the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes. this is
followed by the secretion of anti myelin antibodies from B cells, opsonisation of the myelin sheath

Will Allen s The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People, and Communities is not just
a book about agriculture, it s about life. The book is Will Allen s diary about his past, present and
future. This book is an inspiration. Will Allen writes to show us that our past, might always come back
to haunt us, but the second time it can be a positive experience based on our efforts. In the following I
will provide a summary of the book, describe the importance of the book, and lastly I will provide a
critique on Will Allen s, The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People, and
Communities. As an African American, Allen has not only suffer from racism, but also from the
unfairness in the world of food. He explains how his parents were slaves back in 1920s, and how that
caused him to have a negative view towards agriculture. He states that he never enjoyed farming
during that time. He had always had a passion for agriculture, but there was always something
negative in this path that kept him from enjoying it. Will Allen s love for agriculture, became the
reason why he desired to start his organization, Growing Power. His organization does not earn profits
by harming the poor, it hopes to create an alternative to the nation s centralized industrial food system.

Patient Safety Essay
Introduction
Keeping patients safe is essential in today s health care system, but patient safety events that violate
that safety are increasing each year. It was only recently, that the focus on patient safety was
reinforced by a report prepared by Institute of medicine (IOM) entitled To err is human, building a
safer health system (Wakefield Iliffe,2002).This report found that approx imately 44,000 to 98,000
deaths occur each year due to medical errors and that the majority was preventable. Deaths due to

Medicare patients (Health Grades, 2009). Institute of medicine (IOM) has estimated that adverse drug

Budnitz, 2010). Total cost due to medical errors is 29 bil lion annually, which includes costs due to
medical bills and due to loss of income and other dis abilities. Seeing the severity of patient safety
events, it is necessary for the hospitals to take proper steps towards patient safety. Each step towards
patient safety saves hundreds of lives and thousands of dollars. Preventable medical errors affect the

My Learning Styles Are Kinesthetic And Visual Essay

1. My learning styles are kinesthetic and visual. When I learn to do something, I always skip the
instruction, tending to jump right in and try it. In terms of Mutual Intelligence, I scored 3.57 in Nature,
3.43 in Self, and 3.14 Musical. The MI score nearly mirrors who I am, except the language and
kinesthetic scores. It s true that I m not good at math and logical problems, but I do enjoy new
languages. I m bilingual now and I want to be a trilingual in the future. Therefore, I believe that my
score in linguistic and kinesthetic should be higher. There are some statements in the Assessment
results which I find accurate about me. For instance, Take photographs of what you find on your hike ,
You like working on projects on your own , and You enjoy humming or singing along with music. My
Keirsey Score is INFP which means my learning score is NF. I m not the type of person who logically
plans to do everything. I prefer to be led by feelings. It s also true that I m an introvert when I m
around people who I don t feel comfortable with. Actually, I change into another person when I m
with my family and friends. It s interesting that my boyfriend shares totally different traits in his
Keirsey Score; he s an ISTJ. While I focus on creativity and don t follow the plan, he tends to plan
everything in advance. Sometimes, the differences in our personalities create arguments. However, I

Solar Heartbeat
The first discovery that we will talk about in this essay, is the discovery of the solar heartbeat .
Scientists have discovered a pulse within the Sun that lies in the layers of gas that revolve underneath
the surface of the Sun. Scientists discovered that the Sun s equatorial region rotates at rate that differs
from the rate at which the Sun s polar regions rotate. The equatorial region rotating once every twenty
seven days, and the polar regions, every thirty five days. This differential in rotations extends down a
third of the way to the Sun s core, in the convection layer. Rotations at the convection layer also differ
from the Sun s equatorial and polar regions, taking only fifteen to sixteen days to complete a
revolution. It is believed by astronomers that these internal rotating gas layers are in correspondence
with eruptions and solar flares on the surface of the Sun.

Hyperbole In Endings By Mona Van Duyn
Once in a blue moon, a person will find their soulmate story. The one they ve adopted as their own.
The one they don t ever want to finish, that they can t live without. Sometimes, that story doesn t end
the way they want and sometimes that story ends too early leaving them baffled and clueless. Endings
written by Mona Van Duyn is a poem about a person determined to find the ending of a story they
have become extremely attached to. The late writer is known for her examination of the daily lives of

Therefore, they see themselves when they too fall in love with their story of a lifetime. Mona Van
Duyn uses simple imagery to set the scene and give the reader a sense of home. In the quote Setting
the V.C.R. when we go to bed to record a night owl movie (ls.1,2), Duyn takes this subtle imagery to
make the reader comforted. People bring back this sense of home from the back of their mind. They
understand the feel of a movie night, and because that feeling is so common, she doesn t need to use
detailed imagery to lure the readers into the poem. Duyn can create an opportunity for the reader to
relate to the person in the poem. Tears will salt the left over salad I seize during ads, or laughter slow
my hurry to pee (ls. 13,14). In this line the readers can let out their uncertainties about the character
because they can relate to them. The humor Duyn uses is just one way of knocking down the walls
that separate the reader from the narrator and making the reader become one with the poem. It allows
the reader to reflect themselves onto the character, and the character becomes them. Duyn creates an
atmosphere of dramatic desperation using shifting mood. In the beginning of the poem, she creates a
calm setting where the reader feels safe. We watch next evening, and having slowly found the start of
the film, meet the minors and leads, enter their time and place, their wills and needs (ls. 6 8). This line

one hour, many drinks will not be poured. Alcohol has a high profit margin, where a lot of money can
potentially be made. The average person may have 2 drinks total. The cost of each drink is high which
will result in profit. The bartender will just have to push the higher priced drinks to maximize the short
time frame. There is an estimate of 350 guests. This could be 50 people or the total 350. Food cost will

much to make per person at this stage with an estimated count. The menu prices are not inclusive of
the 23% service charge and the 10% DC sales tax. This means that you will be making money. The

put them at an economic disadvantage, this also leaves children without a true sense of security and

  • 2. According To The Text, It Says That “Liability For Contracts According to the text, it says that liability for contracts formed by an agent depends on how the principal is classified and on whether the actions of the agent were authorized or unauthorized. Principals are classified as disclosed, or undisclosed (Roger, LeRoy, Miller). A partially disclosed principal is a principal whose identity is not known by the third party know that the agent is or may be acting for a principal at the time the contract is made (Roger, LeRoy, Miller). An undisclosed principal is a principal whose identity is totally unknown by the third party, and the third party has no knowledge that the agent is acting in an agency capacity at the time the contract is made (Roger, LeRoy, Miller). • 3. Analysis Of Stanley Cohen s Folk Devils And Moral Panics The term Moral Panic was an expression created by Stanley Cohen in his 1972 book Folk devils and Moral Panics . Cohen, who was a sociology professor at the University of Essex in the 60s, developed the concept of Moral Panic as a way to describe the media coverage of the violence that spawned between two rival youth gangs (the Mods and the Rockers) and to explain the following societal reaction to that era s adolescent sub culture. Since then the term has been regularly used in the media to refer to all sorts of anti social and criminal behaviours. The use of media can create unnecessary panic about a range of different subjects, one of the most popular being drugs. At around the same time as Cohen s original research and study, a man named Jock Young, another sociologist and criminologist (and a co author with Cohen of later studies including The Manufacture of News 1981), explored the moral panic that developed around the drug use of hippies in the mid to late 60s. In particular he researched and examined the social reaction to the use of marijuana in the Notting Hill area of West London and described the process of deviance amplification which is a process that occurs as a consequence of a moral panic over a specific type of behaviour. In a nutshell, deviance amplification is reinforcing the effect that happens as a result of a negative social reaction to such criminal or deviant behaviour (i.e, drug use) and this happens on a daily basis in the media, ... • 4. Essay about The Effects Of Media On Preschoolers The use of media (television, video games, phones, music, and computers) by young children is becoming more and more common in everyday life. Children are in front of media screens now more than anytime in history. Parents are allowing, encouraging, and promoting the use of media in many forms. There are endless sources available for parents to purchase for the use with infants, toddlers,a nd preschoolers from movies to games and videos. (Ravichandran, France de Bravo, 2010, Yound Children and Screentime .) Although these media tupes are readily available, whether they be for entertainment or educational use, are they really in the children s best interest? According to the American Acadamy of Pediatrics (1999) the average child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Ravichandran, France de Bravo, 2010, Yound Children and Screentime .) Young children learn through play and interacting with people. If we want bright, intelligent, and active children with phenomenal imaginations we have to take and make time to play with them and turn the media off. Play allows children to learn, the wiring connections in their brains depends on them playing, imagining and interacting with human beings. Play prepares them for real life. It s where children work out their problems in order to deal with life. If children spend their time in front of screens and interacting with media then it is not spent in play and the various brain connections are not being connected, resulting in learing and attention problems. Children also learn from moving and doing. When they are interacting with media they are usually not moving and doing. During a 2year longitudinal study where media exposure was recorded, both violent and educational, were found and associated with physical aggression, verbal aggression and relational aggression according to the gender of the children. It was determined that media exposure predicted various types of aggression and prosocial behavior according to gender. To their amazement girls were much more likely to engage in and be victimized by relational and verbal aggression than boys, especially if other girls were present.Whereas boys were much more likely to participate in physical aggression than girls, ... • 5. The Importance Of Industrialization The early 19th century was a time of technological innovations that took the United States to a new level of commerce. During this time, the cotton gin, steamboats, power looms, and even the telegraph were invented (Swen). As these inventions continued to improve the way of life, the nation continued to spread northeast and west to discover new land. Where a stagecoach may have taken months to transport goods from east to west, the railroad could transport the merchandise cross country in just a few days. Lastly, communication through the telegraph simplified the need for the pony express. Although these inventions changed how these people lived their life, was it all for the best? Were sacrifices made as individuals, as a family, or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now instead of controlling their own future, the nation will become dependent on other people to succeed in life. Factories did not just hire the man of the family, it hired the whole family. Children worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first started at Samuel Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could get under the machinery and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room. Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. This created family conflict because not all factories were on the same schedule. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Anti War Movement Firstly there was a massive group of people that protested in New York City during April 15th 1967. There were approximately: 100,000 125,000 individuals who marched from Central Park to the United Nations Building to demand an end to American military operations in Vietnam (Scott, 2004). The anti war demonstrations offered the opportunity for twenty Vietnam veterans to escort their movement. In addition the veterans jubilantly agreed to lead the assembly of anti war protestors which conspicuously portrayed a sign that mentioned Vietnam Veterans against the War (Scott, 2004). Henceforth there were six of the Vietnam veterans who had led the anti war movement who decided to create group which was vehemently opposed to involvement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their anti war efforts could have resulted in diminishing the public s opinion about the foreign conflict and ultimately influencing local, state and federal politicians to seriously consider passing legislature that would have concluded the Vietnam War. In addition there was the lingering reality that there were many American s who legitimately questioned the underlying reasoning behind the implementation and the direction of the Vietnam war effort. Finally the Vietnam conflict had officially ended on April 30th, 1975. Furthermore the conflict had lasted for close to twenty years since the war officially began on November 1st 1955. In closing I genuinely hope that there is not another war that is reminisce of the Vietnam Conflict partly because there had been a large percentage of innocent Vietnam civilians who had accidentally been slain by American soldiers who were fighting against the notorious Vietcong insurgents. The civilian causalities from U.S. Actions ran from 100,000 in 1965 up to 300,00 in 1968, just from bombing and artillery (). Hench forth I can recall from viewing historical ... • 7. LDCT Screening According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet proved to be a replacement for LDCT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe ARCHITECTURAL BOUNDARIES: LUDWIG MIES VAN DER ROHE AND PHILIP JOHNSON Architecture has undergone a rapid and revolutionary transformation in the modern era. Through the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, this essay attempts to chart the transition in architecture from nineteenth century Romanticism and Neoclassicism to High Modernism. Mies van der Rohe redefined architectural boundaries and emphasised the beauty of simple forms, the importance of functionality and the versatility of new materials such as glass, steel and marble. An analysis of the work of Philip Johnson reveals the development from High Modernism to Postmodernism, where playful and ironic decoration and humanist theories were reintroduced into what had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By contrasting steel columns and wooden cabinets in the Farnsworth House (1945‐50, Plano, Illinois), Mies van der Rohe freed architects from the constraints of conventional nineteenth century design paradigms.15 The combination of charcoal black steel girders and walls of glass in the ITT Crown Hall (1950‐6, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago) is another example of how he revolutionised architecture from the highly decorative and fussy buildings of the nineteenth century, to the stylish cubic shapes we recognise today.16 Windows were replaced with exterior glass surfaces and steel girders were used to remove internal supporting columns, thus opening interior space within the building.17 Low partitioned walls separated teaching classes in the ITT Crown Hall but facilitated communication between students and teachers.18 The building was extremely functional as it could be adapted to serve unanticipated purposes.19 New materials allowed Mies van der Rohe to dramatically alter the conventional boundaries of architecture. Our talent becomes unbeatable, and we as a team become unstoppable. The countless hours, hundreds upon hundreds of repetitions, blood, sweat, and tears all become worth it. We are the Lowell Red Devils, and with that name, we carry proud alumni that came before us. We were not always so memorable in the cheerleading world though. This past year we set a goal of making it to The National High School Cheerleading Championships, in Orlando Florida. To get to this competition we had to qualify in December, not only did we qualify but we placed first out of 15 teams. The energy and excitement was paralyzing, as we realized ... We arrived at our competition tent on Saturday morning with a rush of emotions. We started with flawless warmup, giving us the confidence to hold our heads high. With the thought in the back of our minds that no one has done or attempted this before , we are only one of four teams in northwest Indiana to make it this far , or what if were not good enough . I stepped up realizing the team was looking at me to guide them through this bittersweet moment. I said calmly Ladies we are the best of the best. We have accomplished an incredible amount this season and the outcome of this competition will not take any of that away. I will not ask you to go out there and hit every stunt and throw every tumbling pass perfectly; but I will ask you to go out there and give it all you ve got. • 30. Solar Heartbeat The first discovery that we will talk about in this essay, is the discovery of the solar heartbeat . Scientists have discovered a pulse within the Sun that lies in the layers of gas that revolve underneath the surface of the Sun. Scientists discovered that the Sun s equatorial region rotates at rate that differs from the rate at which the Sun s polar regions rotate. The equatorial region rotating once every twenty seven days, and the polar regions, every thirty five days. This differential in rotations extends down a third of the way to the Sun s core, in the convection layer. Rotations at the convection layer also differ from the Sun s equatorial and polar regions, taking only fifteen to sixteen days to complete a revolution. It is believed by astronomers that these internal rotating gas layers are in correspondence with eruptions and solar flares on the surface of the Sun. The next discovery we will talk about, is the discovery of a giant, dog bone shaped asteroid, located in an asteroid belt, between the planets of Mars and Jupiter. For the first time, scientists were able to recover the fragments of the fallen meteor and bring them back to a lab in a frozen state and untouched. When taken back to a lab for examination, the meteor was discovered to carbonaceous chondrites. This was rare, because carbonaceous chondrites are very fragile, and usually break apart and disintegrate upon reentry into the Earth s atmosphere, and even if they survive reentry, are susceptible to weathering on the ground. Therefore, they see themselves when they too fall in love with their story of a lifetime. Mona Van Duyn uses simple imagery to set the scene and give the reader a sense of home. In the quote Setting the V.C.R. when we go to bed to record a night owl movie (ls.1,2), Duyn takes this subtle imagery to make the reader comforted. People bring back this sense of home from the back of their mind. They understand the feel of a movie night, and because that feeling is so common, she doesn t need to use detailed imagery to lure the readers into the poem. Duyn can create an opportunity for the reader to relate to the person in the poem. Tears will salt the left over salad I seize during ads, or laughter slow my hurry to pee (ls. 13,14). In this line the readers can let out their uncertainties about the character because they can relate to them. The humor Duyn uses is just one way of knocking down the walls that separate the reader from the narrator and making the reader become one with the poem. It allows the reader to reflect themselves onto the character, and the character becomes them. Duyn creates an atmosphere of dramatic desperation using shifting mood. In the beginning of the poem, she creates a calm setting where the reader feels safe. We watch next evening, and having slowly found the start of the film, meet the minors and leads, enter their time and place, their wills and needs (ls. 6 8). This line ...
