The Impact Of Modern Health Care On The United States
Modern health care is a policy revolving around a system that allows individuals to access
medical services in order to maintain or improve physical and mental health. There is not
universal coverage throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage
vital to their wellbeing. In the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a
worldly scale. Numerous industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady
fluctuation within the structure of the system, and the question on how to control and prevent
further increases has yet to be solved. A large percentage of the GDP for developed countries is
currently being spent on the healthcare system. Countries such as the United States spend around
17.7% of its GDP on healthcare, with the Netherlands spending the second most at around 11.9%.
This widespread increase on healthcare expenditures is only going to increase as time progresses,
unless a new universal system is implemented that will help control the cost worldwide. In many
countries, millions of people suffer from illness because of their lack of resources, and appropriate
access of health care they need. As a result of this, a large percentage of the population in the lesser
developed regions are dying due to the nonexistence of treatment. Contrary to that, if medical
attention is received, the costly services push them into poverty or financial deficit. In countries
that have access to certain health services at an

The Impact Of Reconstruction And Its Impact On African...
History has been marked by many major events and people throughout the years. Today that has not
changed, changes, people and events keep presenting themselves making a mark in history for
future generations to hear, learn, and study them. One interesting topic in history is Reconstruction.
To further understand Reconstruction, one needs to know what happened during this period, how
it came to exist and the impact it had on African Americans. The Reconstruction era was a period
of time that lasted for fourteen years. Reconstruction began in 1863, just after America had finish
fighting the Civil War. The Civil War settled the constitutional crisis that were provoked by the
secessions of the Confederacy as well as giving freedom to millions of slaves, more than four
million to be exact, upsetting many white southerners. This freedom was obtain by the 13th
Amendment which abolished slavery. In other words ended slavery. This impacted many African
Americans mainly for the reason being that most had no idea on how to make a living on their
own. At the time President Lincoln and Congress helped African Americans by providing them
with food, clothing and leasing them land so they can have somewhere to make a living. In
addition, Lincoln had more plans for Reconstruction. One of his plan consisted on bringing the
seceded states back into the Union. However, before his plans were tested Lincoln was assassinated
while attending a theater. Continuing with what Lincoln had left as

Millennial Literacy Definition
As I start to compose my point of view about Millennial literacy, my computer stops working
unexpectedly and I resort to good ole paper and pencil. I was frustrated and a little annoyed
because I pictured myself typing my introduction on my laptop computer next to the fire in the
student lounge with a cup of coffee in my hand. I wanted that image to become a reality and felt
more comfortable using my laptop for academic writing. Paper and pencil was my last resort when I
thought about writing an essay. Also, with the new technology era, teachers have been required to
grade assignments electronically; therefore, students must turn in their papers electronically. As I
continued to reflect on my own literacy practices, I realized that I think... Show more content on

Since the start of a technology era, many newspapers and news television stations have been
reporting lower number of viewers. This is because younger generations are getting their news
from a different source. Social media sites provide Millennials with daily news. Many
Millennials follow news sites on Twitter and Facebook. News sites tweet and post articles,
weather, and daily news. In an article labeled How Millennials Get News , surveys were done to
find out just how younger generations get the news. Studies show that 69% of the Millennial
generation get the news daily and 88% of Millennials get the news from Facebook regularly
(How Millennials, par. 9 11). Overall, the Millennial generation does not always get the news
directly from the newspaper or on television. Instead, they get news through social media
websites. The same study states how many Millennials have some sort of device for them to be
able to use social media: More than 90 percent of adults age 18 34 surveyed own smartphones,
and half own tablets (par. 17). Those numbers have increased over the years significantly. Since
this generation is one of the first to grow up with all of this technology, we can conclude that
Millennials have adapted to the new technology era in the form of how they get

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Reagan Eulogy
Ronald Reagan, the former 40th president of the United States died on June 5th of 2004. A
couple of days later on the 11th, Margaret Thatcher the former Prime Minister of Great Britain,
wrote an eulogy for Ronald Reagan. In this eulogy, Thatcher uses rhetorical strategies to
convince her readers into believing what she states. She uses the strategies of parallelism,
pathos and diction to get her message out and to help her reader receive it. And thus Thatcher
can convince her readers into believing what she says. In the first couple of lines of her eulogy,
Thatcher uses parallelism to get a message across about Reagan. Her first words clearly state, We
have lost a great president, a great American, and a great man, (Line # 1 2). Parallelism means to
use alike words in the same phrases or clauses. In this instance Thatcher repeats the word great
three time in a phrase so that the reader could clearly understand that Thatcher believed Reagan
was a great person in general. Using this strategy over exaggerates the view Thatcher had on
Reagan so that her readers could eventually themselves believe he was a great man. In the next
couple of lines, Thatcher again uses parallelism to describe to the reader Reagan s goals, He
sought to mend America s wounded spirit, to restore the strength of the free world, and to free
the slaves of communism, (Line #6 8). Thatcher uses the words, mend, restore, and, free, which
are all actions that mean healing. By using these three words, Thatcher uses Parallelism to
express that Reagan was only trying to heal, to help, to save his country and those he could help.
This made Thatcher s readers see Reagan as a type of savior to the United States. Parallelism was
used by Thatcher to emphasize her thoughts on Reagan and to draw in her readers so they think the
same thing. The second rhetorical strategy Thatcher uses are pathos or emotional appeal. Thatcher
uses pathos when she talks about the attempt to assassinate Reagan, In the terrible hours after the
attempt on his life, his easy jokes gave reassurance to an anxious world. They were evidence that in
the aftermath of terror and in the midst of hysteria one great heart at least remained sane and

I Was A Long Term Venture
Have you ever felt there must be something more? Something past simply existing? Searching for
who I am has been a long term venture. I was not merely that girl who would get uneasy every
morning when walking to school or the girl who would get sweaty hands when getting nervous.
I was definitely something more, something that I did not see. All I would see were
imperfections and flaws. For the past years, I have felt as I am meant to do more. This simple
thought overrides my mind and emotions. As I plunge into the everyday chaos of nature, I have
realized that life is a test, in fact a very difficult test. But what s even harder is dealing with an
overpowering feeling of frustration of not knowing who I am and not knowing where to start...

I was scared to fail, scared to let my parents down because all their hard work and struggles has
been for me to achieve the single aspiration of attending a four year university.
The hot, humid air made me uneasy. In those moments of tension you told me that life has two
ways and no more, you either fail or succeed. In a punitive tone you said, black or white, there is
no gray area in life and that is the harsh reality. A harsh reality that I am scared of. But you always
said to me, Don t let fear consume you. My shyness and anxiety got in the way from joining what I
aspired to do, join wrestling. Beginning of junior year, as I was walking towards the 8100
building, I was contemplating the fact that I was going to start walking all the way across campus
and go up a lot of stairs. It was a hot morning and I was late to class when in the morning
announcements they announced off season practice for wrestling. I was excited because that meant
soon I would attend the wresting tournaments again. Whenever I had free time afterschool, my day
consisted of sitting in the bleachers with a Dr. pepper and chips, watching the art of the moves.
As I got home, I told you how excited I was because wrestling season was right around the corner. I
said to you how I truly desired to join since my freshmen year, and you said Go for it, it s a one life

The Dalai Lama And Chinese Anger
As I was mindlessly scrolling through my news feed, I took an extra glance at a video titled
Lady Gaga and the Dalai Lama talk kindness . Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it.
Not too long afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of
that video. This sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video
itself showed nothing offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty
of firewalling the video. Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web
browsers to watch it and make a legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger).
After doing some brief research I learned that his holiness the Dalai Lamahimself, who is to
Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now
why would the Chinese government have such an important religious figure such as the Dalai
Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone for simply having a publicized chat with him?
In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama
is and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while
the rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a
video of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent.
The Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk believed to be a manifestation

The prescription filling process of the health maintenance organization (HMO) consists of the
doctor sending the prescription to the pharmacy via paper with the patient, paper to the nurse who
calls in the prescription with instructions, or faxing the prescription to the pharmacy. From there,
the personnel at the pharmacy fill the prescription by inputting the information given to them into
their computer in order to print the instructions and medication labels for the prescriptions. They
then pull the requested medications per the instructions, fill the necessary containers to give to the
patients, and label ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Handwriting has always been, and will remain, a problem in medicine. A 1979 study showed that it
was difficult to interpret about half of all physicians handwritten orders. Little has changed since
then, (In the long run, penmanship classes for doctors won t do much for patient safety, 2001).
This has been an ongoing problem since inception. Therefore, the beginning of the process should
be changed in this day and age of technology to have prescriptions entered into computers and
handheld devices by the doctor, to ensure accuracy of the medication that is needed to be filled,
and electronically sent to the pharmacy. Having a nurse call in prescriptions is a non value added
activity that can be eliminated. This may be expensive at the start to implement, but in the long
term, it will save both organizations time, help reduce errors, and add value to the level of service
the organization gives. With this change, label errors should also be reduced as well, ensuring the
patient receives the correct medicine and dosage.
After implementing the technological advancements, the pharmacy will be required to keep a log
of all medications brought back or called saying that they are the wrong medicine. These logs will
be collected monthly to measure the amount of prescriptions filled wrong to determine if the
changes are working.

Descriptive Essay On My Clocks
Everyone I know has already seen a clock reach zero. A timer constantly floating over somebody s
head, representing different things for anyone who sees it. When they reach zero, something
happens, something different for everyone. The floating numbers have never dropped that low for
me. When Maria sees someone s timerreach zero, that person sneezes. Steven watches a clock
bottom out as the person with that clock laughs. Even Kelsey saw a baby start to cry when it
dropped its toy and its countdown hit zero. Me, never. Nobody I ve ever seen has hit zero, and it s
been seventeen years. Seventeen years of friends learning what the countdowns they saw meant,
seventeen years of people swearing up and down that I d see what my clockssymbolized, seventeen
years of endless ticking, seventeen years of lies. My mom always used to say that meant I was
special, that I still got to find out what my clocks meant at an age where I would remember my
first time, where I would be able to relive the excitement. I never told her that my clocks aren t
counting down. Of every person I ve ever talked to, they ve never seen their clocks count up, or
freeze, or bounce between times. Oddly enough, none of them ever caught on that I was asking to
see if I wasn t actually alone. Stupid jerks. Even right now, my phone sits on silent under my bed,
having been thrown there after Allie s text of excited news; she just saw some girl reach zero on
the street when a greasy construction

Reliable Utilization of Family Life Cycle Information to...
Problem Statement Market segmentation methods that reliably utilize information about family life
cycle to ascertain consumers preferences for dining in restaurants have not been established. As a
result, the foodservice industry may well be forgoing substantive opportunities to market to
restaurant patrons and to strengthen the attractiveness of dining out experiences. Indeed, the
tourism and hospitality literature points to a relation between the demographic attributes of
families and food purchases that are made away from home. Evidence of a viable market can be
taken from the rate of growth over several decades: the amount of discretionary money that
American families spend on dining out has increased from 25% of their food budget to 50% in the
years spanning 1955 to 2006. Data Analysis The family life cycle (FLC) conceit provides a method
for reflecting the anticipated variations in purchasing patterns attributed to changes in the needs and
capacities of families over the duration of the family unit life cycle (Lawson, 1988). However, the
model has not held up well to sea changes in the composition, structure, and flux of modern family
units (Lin Lehto, 2006). As recommended by Schaninger and Danko (993), the authors took an
approach typical to the development of target market personas, such that they were able to
categorize households in a manner that maximized between group variance. The resultant
modifications collapsed the number of categories from eight

Judith Jarvis Thomson s A Defense Of Abortion Essay
Judith Jarvis Thomson s A Defense of Abortion is a uniquely reasoned argument for the right to
abortion that uses strong analogies to challenge pro life arguments that are based on the premise
that a human life begins at the moment of conception. In this paper I will argue that Thomson is
correct in her view and that her analogies solidify her argument, which then becomes impervious to
criticism from philosophers like Keith J. Pavlischek or David B. Hershenov who bring up other
factors irrelevant to Thomson argument that are easily disputable by facts. Thomson starts her
paper by clarifying that while she does not agree with the premise that life begins at the moment of
conception she is willing to accept it in her argument to prove that it is a counterpoint to abortion
that is as weak as the rest of the pro life argument. In her essay, Thomson uses three major analogies
to illustrate different scenarios to which abortion would be considered. The Violinist Analogy
describes a pregnancythat has been induced by rape and, foreshadows to a section later in the
essay, where she goes into detail about where the line is drawn when two innocent lives are at
risk and what is the third party s role in the problem solving. It is a case in which the Society of
Music Lovers has kidnapped you and attached you to a revered violinist who needs your kidneys
to support him so he can live. The doctor says it is a nine month procedure, after which, he will be

Sergeant Hardy knew what he valued. He also recognized the importance of ethical behavior. He
exhibited both values and ethics in his leadership style and actions. Sergeant Hardy ethics and
values were very visible because he lived them in his actions every single day. He lived true to
all seven United States Army core values and everyone in his presents followed his lead. As a
leader, Sergeant Hardy chooses the values and the ethics that were most important to him, the
values and ethics he believed in and it defined his character. Living his values was one of the
most powerful tools available to him that helped him lead and influence others in the workplace.
He knew the vital aspect of the workplace is working well with others. That included everyone
from peers to supervisors. He knew not all employees will not always like each other, but knew
they needed to set aside their personal or even work related differences to reach a larger goal. In
many instances, those who are not considered team players could have faced demotion. On the
other hand, those who work well with others often advanced on that aspect alone, in the

The alternate hypothesis was: There is a significant relationship between individuals IQ score rank
and instructional media preference. In a correlational study, an alternate hypothesis claims that a
relationship exists between the variables (Gilbert, 2006). A relationship means that where learners
score on the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale is related to which medium they choose to use for
instruction. Another way to write this is: Ha: ПЃXY в‰ 0, where Ha is the symbol for the
alternative hypothesis, ρ for the significance which will be ≤0.5, and XY which represents the
predictor variable, learner IQ, or X, paired with the criterion variable, or instructional media
choice, or Y. For this study, the predictor variable, learner IQ score, is interpreted as a rank, an
ordinal level of measurement and the criterion variable, instructional media preference, as a
nominal level of measurement. According to Black (1999), Cramer s C (also known as V) is an
appropriate statistical measure when a single sample examines ordinal and nominal levels of
measurement. In fact, using Black s (1999) decision table for selecting association or correlation
coefficients, the ordinal level of measurement, in this case learner IQ ranking, should be reduced to
a nominal level (p.626). Descriptive statistics Univariate

Essay on Cole Porter
Musical theater has been filled with countless talented composers. The amount of talent in the
theater world is endless, but only few composers gain iconic status. The Gershwins, Rogers
Hammerstein, and Stephen Sondheim come to mind when thinking of the pinnacle of composing.
One other man who deserves his permanent place with these others would be Cole Porter. Porter s
extensive library of songs has become classics along with a series of hit musicals that are still
done in high mass today. Porter had his share of incredibly tough times, and it simply only makes
his rise to the top even more impressive. Cole Porter is without a doubt one of the best composers

Porter reintroduced himself in 1928 with the musical Paris. This musical contained what is
considered to be one of his best list songs, Let s Do It (Let s Fall In Love . For the next few
years, Porter was constantly writing for huge shows and revues and was finally regaining his
credibility as a writer. His peak of this time would come in 1934 with the timeless musical
Anything Goes. Anything Goes is considered by many to be the greatest score of this period
(and many people would say it is Porter s greatest ever as well). The original Off Broadway
incarceration would go on to be revived several times on Broadway, winning many awards in the
process. In addition to Broadway and theater, Cole also was constantly writing for Hollywood at
the time as well. These scores included scores for Born to Dance in 1936, featuring You d Be So
Easy to Love and I ve Got You Under My Skin , and Rosalie in 1937, featuring In the Still of the
Night . Porter was once again living a life of luxury and happiness, constantly throwing parties
and being in the presence of celebrities. It seemed as though Cole was on top again, until a tragic
riding accident in 1937 crushed both of his legs, leaving him largely crippled. Porter would
undergo over 30 surgeries on his legs, and remained in pain for the remainder of his life. The

Does Spousal Income Affects Women s Labor Force...
Literature does not agree upon how spousal income effects a women s labor force participation,
but the effect on women s work choice is constant. In the years 1960 to 1977 a total of 8.7 million
women entered the labor force, 58.5% had spouses with above average incomes (Ryscavage 1979).
This data supports the argument that high spousal income positively affects the womans labor force
participation. In contrast Shaw (1992) argues that it is possible that a wealthy husband negatively
affects the wife s participation in the labor force. She states that because of spousal income being
above average it gives the woman economic stability to not join the labor force. Using the Current

Edward II Film Analysis
Christopher Marlowe s Edward II was published around 1594 and in 1991 Derek Jarman
produced a film adaptation under the same title. Though these two works were produced almost
four hundred years apart, many of the themes and aesthetics from the original are able to shine
through a modern lense. The film successfully utilizes many of the original themes, motifs and
characters as well as the plot without producing a carbon copy of the play. Jarman s ability to
successfully transform the text to fit the socio political climate of his time is what sets this
adaptation apart from similar works. The film adaptation of Edward II pays homage to its roots,
and yet manages to set itself apart as an independent work of art.
Though Jarman s film is modernized, it successfully borrows political and cultural themes of the
early modern period. One of the political themes that it borrows is the idea of a ruling party
deciding whom one can be in love with. In an article analyzing various works from Christopher
Marlowe, author Mark Hutchings talks about the idea of effeminate rulers who neglect their duties
are challenged and overthrown. (Hutchings, Marlowe s Greekish strumpet ). During the early
modern period, the nobility was content with homosexual relationship if it did not interfere with
their agenda. This is what is reflected in the play when the nobles are trying to rid the kingdom of
Gaveston, but not get rid of Edward. While the original play serves to warn against distracted

Should the Internet Replace the Book As the Chief Tool of...
At present, the Internet and other technology are well developed and keep improving. People use
those new tools to do everything, and try hard to make human life easier and more perfect. From
business to finances; industry to entertainment; services to education, the use of the Internet has
increased and become more mainstream. Some people believe that the Internet and other electronic
technology can replace all kind of jobs that humans do, including teaching students with screens and
keyboards instead of books. They emphasize that the Internet can help people interact to each other
beyond the barrier of distance, so books are somehow not necessary in humanlives. However, in my
opinion, this idea cannot be more ridiculous. Books are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . . all it needs is light, a human eye, and a human mind (2008, В¶ 2). On the other hand,
generally speaking, the publishing process for the book is more stringent and credible than
online resources. As people realize the fact that the Internet is so open and free that everyone
can write anything on the web, a great amount of misleading information have been circulated
for perusal around the network. It is a great challenge to distinguish which of them is true or
credible; however, information from books is basically, generally believable. One of the reasons
for this is that people can easily find out who the author and publisher are of a book. In contrast,
an article from a web page may have trouble to prove its credibility. In short, the Internet cannot
always provide valuable message and information that respects to intellectual property rights.
Therefore, people should keep using book as the chief tool of learning. Another important reason
why the Internet and other technology should not replace the book is that the use of the Internet
and other technology may be a travers of developing social skills. It has been confirmed by

A Statement on Original Sin Essay
A Statement on Original Sin
First articulated by Augustine (A.D. 354 430), the doctrine of original sin holds that all of Adam s
descendants inherit the guilt of Adam s sin and thus incur the punishment for Adam s sin.
Inheriting Adam s guilt at birth, then, presumes one guilty before God at birth and destined for hell.
This is the basis for the Catholic need for infant baptism, for the doctrine of the Immaculate
Conception (that Mary herself was uniquely conceived free of Adam s guilt), and for the belief that
salvation is only available through connection with the Church via baptism. Moreover, the belief
that God holds Adam s descendants personally accountable for Adam s sin calls into question the
importance of our own free will as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is, if we as Christian believers fail in gaining victory over sin even when we sincerely want to
and try, the problem is not with us personally but in our state of having inherited both Adam s guilt
and fallen nature. But Augustine s theology was flawed. While we have indeed inherited Adam s
fallen nature, we have not inherited his guilt; thus, the universal suffering that humanity
endures is not the punishment for Adam s sin in particular, it is the consequence of sin in
general. And while our inherited fallen nature works against us in overcoming sin, this
disadvantage can be overcome through the terms of the new covenant. By means of our
personal connection with Christ, the power of God s grace is imparted by the Holy Spirit
(sanctification) and accessed on our part through the exercise of our free will (which God
honors for us every bit as much as He did for Adam). That is, God provides us moral victory
(imparted righteousness) when we acknowledge our helpless condition and sincerely,
continuously, and freely choose to surrender our lives to Christ and invite Him to have complete
control over us i.e. Thy will be done in my life is our constant appeal; with Paul we say, I die [to
self] daily (1 Cor. 15:31). And with Christ having fulfilled the legal terms of the everlasting
covenant by assuming our guilt and paying its debt on the cross, and in

Protest On The Protest
On August 14, Colin Kaepernick, a San Francisco 49ers quarterback, sat during the national
anthem. Before anyone really noticed, he sat the following two games as well, then it finally
became viral. It wasn t laziness that caused him to sit, nor an injury, but a peaceful protest.
Kaepernick sat to protest rampant police brutality and injustice against black people in the United
States. This protestbecame a topic widely debated during the presidential election, and eventually
when drafting season came around for football, Kaepernick was blackballed from joining any
teams because of this controversy. The American people had a lot to say about how protest should
be peaceful without disrespect, which they say Colin could have had avoided doing, but they fail
to realize that protest isn t supposed to cater to your convenience. Protest is a fundamental right
Americans have. Whether it be walkouts from schools or marching in the streets, protest is
effective when it s done en mass, and what better way to get the message out than on TV, where
millions of Americans tune in to watch beefy men throw an egg shaped ball around.
Primarily, people came to the initial conclusion that Kaepernick sitting for the anthem is incredibly
disrespectful to the U.S. soldiers currently fighting right now and those who have died in battle.
The most popular saying being Soldiers died for that flag! However, the flag does not represent the
military in any fashion. In fact, the U.S. army actually has

Things Fall Apart Rhetorical Analysis Essay
he narrative tone in the book Things Fall Apart is more indicative of an explanatory approach
especially when describing the Igbo culture. The style of the diction suggests a familiarity with the
subject that is not necessarily purposefully shown, but is evident in the way Achebe chooses his
words and how he describes events throughout the book. Throughout the course of the book Achebe
frequently uses African worlds and phrases to describe and show the different aspect of Igbo
culture. The familiarity in, which the narrative focuses on the African language creates a sense of
authenticity to the writing. What is unique about the narrative tone found within the book is that
not only does the author frequently insert the african language within the diction, but the way he
translates or explains the words in plain english so the readers who are unfamiliar with the
language can still follow, for example: Agbala do o o o! Umuachi! Agbala ekene unuo o ol It was
just as Ekwefi had thought. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this in a way that is not seem more catered towards younger readers, for there are aspects
within the text that are still rather vague proving Achebe knows what he is talking about, but
does not immediately assume others do not know as well. Additionally, the book is filled with a
litany of richly descriptive words that is not only used to describe the people and items within
the book, but also creates a type of imagery that is impressive yet concise, and example is this
passage: The ancient drums of death beat, guns and cannon were fired, and men dashed about in
frenzy, cutting down every tree or animal they saw, jumping over walls and dancing on the roof.
It was a warrior s funeral, and from morning till night warriors came and went in their age groups.
They all wore smoked raffia skirts and their bodies were painted with chalk and charcoal. (Achebe

Compare And Contrast Synoptic Gospels
Mark is the best storyteller of the synoptic gospels. The synoptic gospels, Mark, Matthew, and
Luke in the new testament of the Bible are similar stories, sequence, and wording. The book of
Matthew and Luke displays a viewpoint of the stories as told in the book of Mark. The three
synoptic gospels stand in contrast to the book of John whose content is distinct. The role of
miracles plays a critical role in the New Testament of the Bible in religious traditions in Christianity.
The synoptic gospelsreflects unique differences regarding miracles of healing as told in Mark in
contrast to Matthew and Luke. I plan to demonstrate the differences in two synoptic gospels by
comparing and contrasting them to two miracles of healing in the book of Mark.
The two miracles I will explore will include healing a woman of hemorrhages and a man with
leprosy. The first miracle I will explore will be healing in the gospel of Mark. In Mark, Chapter 5,
verses 25 34, he quotes, Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for
twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and
she was no better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in
the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well
Immediately her hemorrhages stopped, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.
Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in

Temperature Of Alka Seltzer
Alka Seltzer being affected by different temperatures in different cups
Research Question How does the temperature affect the speed in which an Alka Seltzer tablet fully
dissolves in three cups filled with water with different temperatures.
Background Information A chemical reaction is a process that involves change of the molecular or
ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction. The
key concepts of a chemical reaction are:
The atoms and molecules that interact with each other are called reactants
The molecules and atoms produced in a chemical reaction are called products
No atoms are destroyed or created they only end up in other products
Reactants collide with each other so new bonds between atoms in the reactants are broken, and
atoms rearrange and form new bonds to make new products ... Show more content on

A larger concentration of products is usually linked to a lower reaction rate.
Usually an increase in temperature in a chemical reaction means that there will be an increase in
the reaction rate of the reactants. Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of a system. If
temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of a system, higher temperature implies a higher
average kinetic energy of molecules and more collisions per time. This would happen because when
the temperature is increased and the reactants will start moving faster and will collide more than
before with other reactants and will start forming products.
This image explains that the higher the temperature, the concentration, and the pressure the faster
the rate of the reaction is.

Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 Research Paper
When people think about a mutation or a genetic disorder, they often tend to think about fictional
like characters such as a half beast half man scenario. However, genetic disorders and mutations
are simply just mistakes in the genetic code. These mistakes can be so minor that it has no effect
on you whatsoever, or they can be a major problem. Myotonic dystrophy type 1 is one of those
genetic mistakes that has a huge impact on the way you live your life. Myotonic dystrophy type 1
is a type of multisystem disorder that cannot be caught, but is genetically inherited. Myotonic
dystrophy type 1 has to do with a special geneand chromosomal problem, with very severe, rare
symptoms, and it has a major impact on life.
First of all, what is myotonic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symptoms are also effected by the age of the carrier. If an adult is experiencing muscle
weakness especially in the leg, hand, neck, and face, and myotonia, which is uncontrollable
contraction of muscles, they should be suspected of having DM1. If a newborn has hypotonia,
facial muscle weakness, general weakness, positional malformations, or respiratory
insufficiency, it should also be suspected of having DM1. Many testes are available to be able to
determine if you have DM1. Some tests include electromyography, serum CK concentration, and
a muscle biopsy. Checking allele sizes also help to determine whether or not you are positive for
DM1. Unfortunately, since the disorder is rare, it is very difficult to predict a prognosis on it.
Non molecular testing that has been used in the past to establish the diagnosis of DM1 currently
has little role in diagnosis and is primarily used if molecular testing of DMPK does not identify the
CTG repeat expansion and other myopathies are being considered. (Thomas D. Bird).
Living with DM1 usually has a major impact on your life. In some cases, you can be a carrier of
DM1 and not be affected at all by it. But, in the majority of cases, it really puts a damper on life.
Some people may experience only mild stiffness or cataracts in later life. In the most severe cases,
respiratory and cardiac complications can be life threatening even at an early age. In general, the

Judaism And The Temple Of Judaism Essay
Have you ever noticed that when people talk of Jews, at least in a protestant church, that the
Israelite legalism, rituals, dress and hair standards are the first things to mind? The topic of Judaism
may come with stereotypical opinions and Christian Judgement that are without merit or
understanding. Judaism, by a Christian worldview, had to change after Pentecost, since the animal
sacrifice to atone for sin Christ completed on the Cross. However, Judaism does not accept this
truth of Christ and His work on the cross, but Judaism remains in the world. So, what was this
change in Judaism and when did it take place? There have been numerous fluctuations within
Judaism, only the theme constructed in this essay has its foundations around the most important
facet of Judaism the Temple. With the Temple in the forefront of this essay, we will discuss the
modifications that Judaism went through, at what time, different perspectives that the destruction
of the Temple had, and how the Christian sect views these vagaries. The Temple destruction of A.D.
70 converted the Jewish faith in its singular fashion, while, at the same point, the Jewish faith never
had a total change by always changing throughout time.
Before we can totally dive into how the Temple destruction changed Judaism, we must gain some
knowledge of the Jewish faith itself, as well as Jewish terms. One of the first ideas many people
may discover about the term Jew is its lack of use in the Old Testament scriptures.

For my Personal Interest Project I have chosen to study extreme altruism, people who risk their for
the good of another person. The reasoning that got my attention at choosing this topic was that of a
personal family death which involved Altruism that occurred when I was younger.
My links to the course are conformity and non conformity, continuity and change and how people
behave in groups, also what aspect of identity or self encourages some to care to the extreme and
express a willingness to risk their life while others do not. My link to continuity and change
focuses on past generation and whether people were more or less likely inclined to help others.
My research methods include interviews, data analysis and a questionnaire. I used interviews to
create three case studies about people who have risked their life to save other people. Data
analysis was used to analyse the nature of recipients of the 2015 bravery awards in Australia and
to establish any trends in the nature of the altruistic behaviour. My questionnaire involved 540
respondents, chosen from a variety of workplaces, schoolmates and family and friends in a
provincial city, I chose this technique as it allows me to get a more accurate first person response
and gives me an access a range of opinions.

Be Careful Going Home, The Roads Are Slippy Essay
Be careful going home. The roads are slippy. That phrase makes me cringe. Western
Pennsylvanians are known for their interesting colloquialisms and I can t stand most of them.
Colloquialisms are words or phrases that aren t formal or even literary and are spoken in common
conversation, according to Oxford Dictionaries. The correct wordis slippery and not this strange
word pronounced slippy. Other ones like yinz, dippy egg, pop, gob, red up, hoagie, and buggy are
common words around here and I believe it makes the people saying them sound like hicks. I ve
grown up in this area, surrounded by these words, yet I feel each one is worse than the next. This
wasn t always the case though. When I was younger, my family said a few of the colloquialisms
from this area since they ve lived here their whole lives. My mother was from Latrobe and my
father was from Johnstown. We lived in a small, extremely rural area between Johnstown and
Altoona where you could always smell natural fertilizer and you lived a fair distance from your
neighbors. So, by the time I entered school, I had heard a few of them like gob, dippy egg, and
sweeper. School was where I learned more phrases and started using them. I would say buggy
instead of shopping cart, crick instead of creek, and even slippy that I now loathe. During my
freshman year of high school, the drama club went on a trip to New York City and everyone there
could tell exactly where we were from. This made me rethink what I was saying and

He has no complaints of pain or discomfort. He is mentally alert and seems impatient and irritable.
He is upset that he had to be hospitalized since he feels fine and is worried about the forthcoming

A Presidential Election Essay
2016 marks the year of a presidential election and to the larger population the president creates
an image power in the government. He/she is a figurehead and the deciding signature to all
legislation passed by Congress. Though Congress is complicated and now a days doesn t seem
to be getting many bills signed into law. The people of the US still vote for these officials with
the hope that these people will represent the interest and goals of the larger population. Even if
that means arguing and having many negotiations, that s how people believe things get done in
Congress. Negotiation is key along with the tactics used in this process to even start passing or
creating a bill in Congress. Both principled negotiation tactics along with others are used to create
movement depending on the situation. Negotiation is a discussion aimed at making an agreement
(Fisher, Ury, Patton, 2011, p. 10). People use negotiation every day and in almost any situation
where they want something else from someone. Kids, for example, want more TV time so they
bargain that if they do more chores they can have more time watching TV from their parents.
Adults tend to use it in their jobs when they have a contract or a discussion about their salary with
their boss. Larger groups such as unions also can negotiate for contracts with larger companies and
advocate for many people not just one. Congress needs to do this too. They aren t only negotiating
with outside entities doing constituent work

Essay on The current war in Afghanistan and why it must end
War has been one of the most constant occurrences in America s history. According to the
Congressional Research Service [1], US armed forces have been offensively deployed for all but 24

Afghanistan. The length of this commitment has not matched the results.
Conventional American forces must be withdrawn from Afghanistanbecause they are only
exacerbating the problem, and the fight with the Taliban isn t going anywhere. 1,848 servicemen

Most recently, on April 10th, the top US and NATO commander, Gen. David Petraeus, told
reporters that, There is no question that al Qaeda has had a presence in Afghanistan and continues
to have a presence generally assessed at less than 100 or so. [5]
The goal of our deployment in Afghanistan that has been repeatedly announced by the White House
and the Pentagon is to prevent a return to power of the Taliban and with it the restoration of a safe
haven for al Qaeda. Shortly after he took office, President Barack Obama announced a surge of
more than 30,000 fresh troops into Afghanistan. In making the announcement he set clear
objectives, which he reiterated in his June 22nd speech to the nation: To refocus on al Qaeda;
reverse the Taliban s momentum; and train Afghan Security Forces to defend their own country. [6]
The first piece of that, as Gen. Petraeus and others repeatedly admit, has been secured. Thus our
presence, according to the commander in chief, is designed to reverse the Taliban s momentum and
to train Afghan forces to maintain that fight against the Taliban.
In this regard, our presence in Afghanistan does us no good anymore we gain no advantage from
being there. As the former British Ambassador to Afghanistan, Sir Sherard Cowper Coles, told the
Guardian, for every dead Pashtun warrior, there will be 10 pledged to revenge. [7] Killing Taliban

Abstract
Accounting is used for several purposes. Investors, creditors, and individuals use accounting to see
whether a business is successful or not. Managers and employees use accounting to make decisions
on certain objectives. There are four main statements used in accounting: The balance sheet, income
statement, the statement of retained earnings, and the statement of cash flow. The equation for
accounting is assets equal equity plus liabilities. The equation must always balance out.
The Basic Principles of Accounting A business uses accounting to record all financial transactions a

Debits and credits do not mean debits decrease an account or credits increase an account. Debit
and credit can increase or decrease an account. (Editorial Board, 2011).
Assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses has their own balance. A company will produce a
trial balance which will give the balance of all these in a certain amount of time such as monthly,
quarterly, or annually. The trial balance ensures that account balance is accurate. If the accounting
equation isn t balanced out then there is an error in the accounting records.
The final process of accounting is producing financial statements. The first statement is the income
statement. The income statement shows a company s profit or loss after revenue and expenses. The
equation for the income statement is revenue minus expenses equal net income. The next statement
produced is the statement of retained earnings. The statement of retained earnings starts out with
the net income retrieved from the income statement, which is added to the beginning retained
earnings from the previous month then subtracts the money paid out. The last document is the
balance sheet. A balance sheet contains a more detailed statement of each account balance. (Tracy,
2008).
A certain standard of moral and professional ethics should be kept in accounting. If professional
ethics are not met, some consequences may be faced. These

Comparing Three Creation Stories
One of biggest mysteries that people have been trying to answer for centuries is, How was the
earth created? Every culture and religion has a different story that attempts to describe how we
came to be. When we pick different creation stories from cultures and religions it s interesting to
see what similarities and differences arise. This paper will analyze some of the similar and
different aspects of three different creation stories. The first creation story is described in the
Bible in Genesis 1 2:3, the second in Genesis 2:4 24, and the third is the creation story of the

In Genesis 1, the creating power, God, creates plants on day three of the six days of creation.
Living creatures (excluding humans) were created on the fifth and sixth days (ESV Gen 1:11 25).
In the Genesis 2 creation account, the Lord God plants the Garden of Eden after he creates the
man. He then creates animals in the same way he created the man and the man names all the
animals (ESV Gen 2:7 20). In Death, and Life and Death, the god Alatangana consolidates the earth
from mud, creates plants to cover the earth, and then creates animals to live on it ( Death, and Life

The creating power in Genesis 1 is referred to as God (ESV Gen 1:1 31; 2:1 3). What s
interesting is that in Genesis 2, each time the creating power is referenced; he is referred to as
the Lord God (ESV Gen. 2:4 25). Christians believe that God and the Lord God are the same
being, but it s interesting that they aren t described with the same name. Still, both Genesis
accounts creating powers differ from the Kono people s creation story Death, and Life and Death

Although the construction procedure of nuclear power plants will substantially deplete the countries
funds, they will eventually become a beneficial asset, producing more kilowatts than coal, wind or

incessantly at everything. The dunce patted the floor for me to join him, and reluctantly I
obliged. I say, remarked Mum, You ve kept your room very neat and tidy. Where s all yer stuff
Mr Gandhi? Mum enquired. With a single sweep of his hand he motioned, This is it. My whole
existence. I m afraid I lead a cluttered life, Grinning boyishly. Do, you think that I should throw
more of my possessions away? I was convinced that the man s head was empty just like his room
which contained only a thin bedding blanket on the floor, a spinning wheel, some white cloth
folded neatly in the corner along with a bowl, knife and spoon and a few books. Ole ya poor
man Mr Gandhi. Is this all you can afford? said Mum. Mrs Dobie, in my heart I am a very rich
man. My measly mere possessions are nothing more than a means to an end. Replied Gandhi, We

Truths In The Canterbury Tales
The author of the Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer, does try to show a world where
everything is how it truly is and not as something that is fake. Throughout the story of The Wife
of Bath he shows that knights should have a chivalry to uphold and should work hard to keep it.
He also shows that everyday things that can be horrible end up happening in real life. Many
times he also mentions religion and how it affects how some people are in the work of religion.
Chivalry to uphold is a main part of the reason many knights had their place in society. They
have a code of conduct in which they live by and they swear an oath to it. Many knights would
swear to the oath but will break it if their loyalty wasn t in the right place. When getting this oath
taken, the main thing knights will swear on is to lay their life on the line for the royal family and
their home land. Chaucer shows in The Wife of Bath where a knight does go back on his word but
does end up following King Arthur s word when his wife gives the knight a punishment.... Show

The truth is that many women, and men for that matter, go through rape. Everyday someone goes
through rape and it was the same back then in that era. Along with the horrid truths there was also
murders. Whenever someone either felt jealous or thought someone was going to take their
treasure normally, murders would happen. In The Pardoner s Tale we see that three friends end up
finding treasure underneath a tree and all three decide it s a fabulous idea to murder to keep the
treasure for themselves. Murder also happens everyday in this era as

The Importance Of Colonialism In Italy
When looking at the colonial experience of European countries, Italy stands out as a unique case.
While the major imperial powers were carving up the Americas, Asia, and Africa at the height of
European colonialism, Italy was just beginning to unify into a modern state. By the time that the
Italians had unified and centralized, there were very few territories left that were not under
Spanish, French, or British control. Thus, the Italian expansionists looked to the very few pieces of
Africathat they could seize. This left them with Libya, Eritrea, Somalia, and Ethiopia. What makes
the expansion particularly unique according to Daniela Baratieri is how the Italian people reacted
to it and used it in media. She takes a close look at not just what was said, but also examining the
historic silences, or topics that many Italians tried to ignore and bury. By reading into the pieces of
their past that the Italians of the 20th century tried to obscure, Baratieri shows that sometimes the
most important parts of history are the intentional silences. Baratieri uses a variety of sources to
investigate how different generations of Italians dealt with colonialism. She uses newsreels, films,
illustrated magazines, cartoons, and history books to provide a comprehensive picture of the
feelings of each generation. These sources are particularly effective at showing the shift in ideas
and opinions over time as well as showing important continuities that persisted, such as attitudes on

Nursing Practices In Australia
Developing countries such as Ethiopia, located in Africa, have a different perspective and way of
implicating nursing practices than nurses in Australia do. According to The World Bank survey
taken in 2010, Australia has 9.6 nurses for every thousand citizens counted compared to Ethiopia,
who has a low 0.2 nurses for every thousand citizens counted (The World Bank, 2010). These
differences in nursing practices include the availability and maintenance of medical technology to
help nurses achieve the best care for patients, the education standards for nurses and nursing
students, and the quality of the nurses infection prevention practices.
One of the major differences between the nursing practices in Ethiopia and Australia is the

Due to the socio economic status of Ethiopia, they are unable to receive many technologically
advanced pieces of equipment which is sure to help the nurses care for the patients, although
education requirements to be a registered nurse are the same in both Australia and Ethiopia, those
standards of education are far from similar. A higher degree of education and skills learned is
attained when studying in Australia, which is shown through the length of the nursing degree, and
although both Australia and Ethiopia have very similar nursing guidelines and infection prevention
guidelines, the rules and regulations are put into practice in very different manners. Prevention of
disease and infection is taken more seriously, and is seen as a very important procedure in Australia
compared to Ethiopia. It is important to provide Ethiopian hospitals with sufficient funding and
equipment to properly care for the sick patients needing medical treatment, which can be provided
through government funding, and also donations and volunteer

A Harsh Critique on Hierarchy and Difference Essay
A Harsh Critique on Hierarchy and Difference Octavia Butler s trilogy Lilith s Brood contains a
myriad of characters who would be marked as different in contemporary American society, whether
it is because of their race, gender, sex, or species. Their differences are often the catalyst for
conflict between others who see themselves as more normal and, therefore, better and higher ranked
in the humanhierarchy. Butler s disdain for human hierarchical tendencies is clear in Lilith s Brood
as she often calls human intelligence and hierarchy the human contradiction . Using the
protagonists Lilith, Akin, and Jodahs, Butler criticizes the misconceptions formulated about race,
sex, and genderand, through their interactions with others,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The humans understand that their only hope for survival is to learn from Lilith and that they are
helpless without her but the Human Contradiction drives them to see her as a traitor to the human
species (152). The Contradiction trumps their survival instinct as they would rather try to fend for
themselves than to learn from Lilith. Some resistors die or nearly die because of the Contradiction.
Lilith also has enhanced strength, which perturbs other humans. After getting hit by Lilith, the
resentment of having to rely on Lilith flares up and causes victims to accuse Lilith of not being a
woman because only a man can fight that way (147). Losing in a fight to Lilith essentially has
others place the loser on a lower rank than the betrayer Lilith on the hierarchy. This embarrassment
causes humans to be irrational and claim outlandish statements. This statement also examines the
preconceptions of the abilities of males and females. Men are thought to be strong because it is a
masculine feature. A woman who possesses masculine traits, like strength, must not be a woman at
all. The reader clearly sees how ludicrous it is to only associate masculine with men and feminine
with women. Most people are a mixture of both and yet society teaches us someone who is normal
is either one or the other. These teachings result in humans marking other as different, which turns
into xenophobia and ethnocentrism. Lilith demonstrates a

How Does Glycolysis Affect Yeast Fermentation
Abstract
Sugars catabolize (break down) through the process of glycolysis. Glycolysis causes the sugar to
undergo fermentation, which yields CO2. In this experiment, different sugar solutions were mixed
with a yeast solution in order to see how fast and if they react to produce CO2. The yeast solution
caused the sugar solutions to undergo glycolysis and produce CO2. Glucose syrup, White sugar,
Artificial
Sweetener all yielded CO2, yet Corn flour did not.
Introduction
The purpose behind this experiment is to identify a correlation between the production of CO2
when yeast is exposed to water and heat. Yeast being fungi requires nutrients (sugar/carbohydrates),
water, heat and oxygen to grow and survive like most other living organism. As a bi product of its
growth the fungi should produce CO2. The experiment involves testing 3 different forms of sugars
and 1 type of flour to show how yeast reacts with each under the correct conditions, then measuring
the amount of gas produced.

sugar is added to each beaker and the corn flour to the last beaker (control), swirl beaker

Drilling Process Of Natural Gas
Natural gas is useful for multiple purposes. The gas is used everywhere including homes all
around the world, but no one questions where it comes from. Natural gas is found in the
Marcellus shale which is a rock of sediment most prominently located in northeastern America.
The sedimentary rock is thousands of feet down in the earth making it hard to obtain. Mankind
was finally able to reach this rock through a technique called fracking which is simply a kind of
drilling. Once a desired location is found, they begin the drilling process by going straight down.
As the drill is proceeding downward, lubricant and air must be pumped to aide with creating a
clear, smooth path. Cement castings are put into the hole to form the walls of the well... Show more

When the water goes into the well not only is it mixed with chemicals, but it comes back up with
other particles, too. This wastewater can be radioactive and can be taken back to a sewage treatment
that doesn t even check for radioactivity. The sewage treatment plant should check for
radioactivity, but since some are unregulated, they don t. Some companies even take the
wastewater and put it back into the streams disposing it improperly. Drilling also causes both air
and noise pollution. When drilling, many harmful gases can be released into the air. A study was
conducted around a hospital with nearby heavy drilling and there was a twenty five percent
asthma rate in young children. Drilling is around the clock and it doesn t help that it is very
noisy, too. Although the benefits are good, the inconveniences out way the good because there is
an abundance of them and there are possible harmful long term effects that could arise in the
future. There are hundreds of chemicals used to drill into the Marcellus Shale. Some of these
chemicals can be dangerous to the environment such as hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is
harmful because it is toxic to all forms of life. It is carried through the air infecting it. This acid is a
component of acid rain and can decay structures such as building and bridges. Another chemical is
naphthalene which is a surfactant. A surfactant reduces surface tension. High levels of this

Instead, they were so focused on developing a blockbuster drug that its ethical considerations that
would ordinarily have been considered were ignored. Protecting consumers of prescription medicine
The best course of action, in protecting consumers of prescription medicine, would be to ban direct
to consumer (DTC) advertising of these medications. Research has shown that DTC ads provide
biased educational materials that promote medication over healthy alternatives (Stange, 2007).
Conversations between the patient and health care provider revolve around DTC ads rather than the
patient s personal health. Discussing why the DTC drug is not the best option for the patient could
result in decreased conversations about the patient s behavior, family health history or recent
patient health concerns. DTC advertisements create an environment through which patient
vulnerability and fear of illness is manipulated and the selected drug serves as the best solution.
These advertisements should encourage the patient to encourage communications between the
patient and doctor on ways to become healthier; instead they foster a belief that drug dependency
is a more viable solution than healthy behaviors. As of right now, only the United States and New
Zealand do not ban the use of DTC ads (Stange, 2007). Consumers need to take a more

Toni Morrison Literary Devices
The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to
express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern
period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel
the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express
themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights
Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was
created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories
Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the
postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated.
Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and
create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of
literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just
one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often
inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves
through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to
keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a
picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s
use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So
you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s
mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is
going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t
have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to
those of that skin color. Directly supporting the idea of the color barrier and the extent people
would go to just to try and receive the opportunities.
As a postmodern author, you cannot

It was a lovely Thursday morning in the Herndon household. All was normal, well as normal as

Audrey to the floor. She was crying at this point, which didn t help matters as the salt from the
tears only served as a catalyst for the reaction that was occurring. I promise I ll never be

You mean... I didn t melt? Tori didn t eat me? We don t live in a gingerbread house? She said as
she wiped the tears from her face.
From that moment on, Audrey had learned her lesson. She would never be a slacker again. She
turned in everything on time and never had a late assignment in science or language arts again. She

Essay International Marketing Ethics and Csr Case Study
1. Identification of Case Issues
Mars chocolate is one of the worlds leading chocolate manufacturers and employs more than
13,000 people across 110 sites worldwide. As market leaders in their industry, Mars is constantly
in the spotlight. Being responsible in the way they conduct business is part of the reason they are
in the highly regarded position that they are in today. The sourcing of cocoa however is currently
one the greatest ethical dilemma s facing not only Mars, but all chocolate companies all over the
world.
The importance of international marketing ethics across cultures has been noted by a number of

The issue of slave labour is not merely one that requires unilateral action... international actors such
as foreign governments, NGOs, civil society participants, as well as other actors implicated either in
supplying the labour or consuming its products are (needed) to help address the problem
(Chanthavong, 2002). When it comes to how Mars can help solve this issue, they must continue to
finance and support cooperative efforts with both governments and nongovernmental organizations.
Such efforts include the International Cocoa Initiative , an initiative working throughout the Ivory
Coast with a goal of totally eliminating child labour in cocoa (Peter McAllister, BBC interview);
and the The World Cocoa Foundation , an initiative helping to achieve cocoa sustainability,
supporting cocoa communities, education, field programs and scientific research (World Cocoa
Foundation, 2012). Mars must continue to build partnerships to address this issue, but ultimately,
making progress in eradicating this issue completely requires the support, cooperation and
commitment of the governments of cocoa producing countries, the cocoa farmers and others from
within the cocoa community (Mars, 2012).
If an organization is to survive and flourish in a global economy, the firm must understand the

  • 2. The Impact Of Modern Health Care On The United States Modern health care is a policy revolving around a system that allows individuals to access medical services in order to maintain or improve physical and mental health. There is not universal coverage throughout the world, and some individuals have the access and coverage vital to their wellbeing. In the last decade, healthcare cost have been rising at a steady rate on a worldly scale. Numerous industrialized and developed countries are being exposed to a steady fluctuation within the structure of the system, and the question on how to control and prevent further increases has yet to be solved. A large percentage of the GDP for developed countries is currently being spent on the healthcare system. Countries such as the United States spend around 17.7% of its GDP on healthcare, with the Netherlands spending the second most at around 11.9%. This widespread increase on healthcare expenditures is only going to increase as time progresses, unless a new universal system is implemented that will help control the cost worldwide. In many countries, millions of people suffer from illness because of their lack of resources, and appropriate access of health care they need. As a result of this, a large percentage of the population in the lesser developed regions are dying due to the nonexistence of treatment. Contrary to that, if medical attention is received, the costly services push them into poverty or financial deficit. In countries that have access to certain health services at an ... • 3. The Impact Of Reconstruction And Its Impact On African... History has been marked by many major events and people throughout the years. Today that has not changed, changes, people and events keep presenting themselves making a mark in history for future generations to hear, learn, and study them. One interesting topic in history is Reconstruction. To further understand Reconstruction, one needs to know what happened during this period, how it came to exist and the impact it had on African Americans. The Reconstruction era was a period of time that lasted for fourteen years. Reconstruction began in 1863, just after America had finish fighting the Civil War. The Civil War settled the constitutional crisis that were provoked by the secessions of the Confederacy as well as giving freedom to millions of slaves, more than four million to be exact, upsetting many white southerners. This freedom was obtain by the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery. In other words ended slavery. This impacted many African Americans mainly for the reason being that most had no idea on how to make a living on their own. At the time President Lincoln and Congress helped African Americans by providing them with food, clothing and leasing them land so they can have somewhere to make a living. In addition, Lincoln had more plans for Reconstruction. One of his plan consisted on bringing the seceded states back into the Union. However, before his plans were tested Lincoln was assassinated while attending a theater. Continuing with what Lincoln had left as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Millennial Literacy Definition As I start to compose my point of view about Millennial literacy, my computer stops working unexpectedly and I resort to good ole paper and pencil. I was frustrated and a little annoyed because I pictured myself typing my introduction on my laptop computer next to the fire in the student lounge with a cup of coffee in my hand. I wanted that image to become a reality and felt more comfortable using my laptop for academic writing. Paper and pencil was my last resort when I thought about writing an essay. Also, with the new technology era, teachers have been required to grade assignments electronically; therefore, students must turn in their papers electronically. As I continued to reflect on my own literacy practices, I realized that I think... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the start of a technology era, many newspapers and news television stations have been reporting lower number of viewers. This is because younger generations are getting their news from a different source. Social media sites provide Millennials with daily news. Many Millennials follow news sites on Twitter and Facebook. News sites tweet and post articles, weather, and daily news. In an article labeled How Millennials Get News , surveys were done to find out just how younger generations get the news. Studies show that 69% of the Millennial generation get the news daily and 88% of Millennials get the news from Facebook regularly (How Millennials, par. 9 11). Overall, the Millennial generation does not always get the news directly from the newspaper or on television. Instead, they get news through social media websites. The same study states how many Millennials have some sort of device for them to be able to use social media: More than 90 percent of adults age 18 34 surveyed own smartphones, and half own tablets (par. 17). Those numbers have increased over the years significantly. Since this generation is one of the first to grow up with all of this technology, we can conclude that Millennials have adapted to the new technology era in the form of how they get ... • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Reagan Eulogy Ronald Reagan, the former 40th president of the United States died on June 5th of 2004. A couple of days later on the 11th, Margaret Thatcher the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, wrote an eulogy for Ronald Reagan. In this eulogy, Thatcher uses rhetorical strategies to convince her readers into believing what she states. She uses the strategies of parallelism, pathos and diction to get her message out and to help her reader receive it. And thus Thatcher can convince her readers into believing what she says. In the first couple of lines of her eulogy, Thatcher uses parallelism to get a message across about Reagan. Her first words clearly state, We have lost a great president, a great American, and a great man, (Line # 1 2). Parallelism means to use alike words in the same phrases or clauses. In this instance Thatcher repeats the word great three time in a phrase so that the reader could clearly understand that Thatcher believed Reagan was a great person in general. Using this strategy over exaggerates the view Thatcher had on Reagan so that her readers could eventually themselves believe he was a great man. In the next couple of lines, Thatcher again uses parallelism to describe to the reader Reagan s goals, He sought to mend America s wounded spirit, to restore the strength of the free world, and to free the slaves of communism, (Line #6 8). Thatcher uses the words, mend, restore, and, free, which are all actions that mean healing. By using these three words, Thatcher uses Parallelism to express that Reagan was only trying to heal, to help, to save his country and those he could help. This made Thatcher s readers see Reagan as a type of savior to the United States. Parallelism was used by Thatcher to emphasize her thoughts on Reagan and to draw in her readers so they think the same thing. The second rhetorical strategy Thatcher uses are pathos or emotional appeal. Thatcher uses pathos when she talks about the attempt to assassinate Reagan, In the terrible hours after the attempt on his life, his easy jokes gave reassurance to an anxious world. They were evidence that in the aftermath of terror and in the midst of hysteria one great heart at least remained sane and jocular, Line # ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Was A Long Term Venture Have you ever felt there must be something more? Something past simply existing? Searching for who I am has been a long term venture. I was not merely that girl who would get uneasy every morning when walking to school or the girl who would get sweaty hands when getting nervous. I was definitely something more, something that I did not see. All I would see were imperfections and flaws. For the past years, I have felt as I am meant to do more. This simple thought overrides my mind and emotions. As I plunge into the everyday chaos of nature, I have realized that life is a test, in fact a very difficult test. But what s even harder is dealing with an overpowering feeling of frustration of not knowing who I am and not knowing where to start... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was scared to fail, scared to let my parents down because all their hard work and struggles has been for me to achieve the single aspiration of attending a four year university. The hot, humid air made me uneasy. In those moments of tension you told me that life has two ways and no more, you either fail or succeed. In a punitive tone you said, black or white, there is no gray area in life and that is the harsh reality. A harsh reality that I am scared of. But you always said to me, Don t let fear consume you. My shyness and anxiety got in the way from joining what I aspired to do, join wrestling. Beginning of junior year, as I was walking towards the 8100 building, I was contemplating the fact that I was going to start walking all the way across campus and go up a lot of stairs. It was a hot morning and I was late to class when in the morning announcements they announced off season practice for wrestling. I was excited because that meant soon I would attend the wresting tournaments again. Whenever I had free time afterschool, my day consisted of sitting in the bleachers with a Dr. pepper and chips, watching the art of the moves. As I got home, I told you how excited I was because wrestling season was right around the corner. • 7. The Dalai Lama And Chinese Anger As I was mindlessly scrolling through my news feed, I took an extra glance at a video titled Lady Gaga and the Dalai Lama talk kindness . Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it. Not too long afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of that video. This sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video itself showed nothing offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty of firewalling the video. Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web browsers to watch it and make a legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger). After doing some brief research I learned that his holiness the Dalai Lamahimself, who is to Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now why would the Chinese government have such an important religious figure such as the Dalai Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone for simply having a publicized chat with him? In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama is and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while the rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a video of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent. The Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk believed to be a manifestation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Statistical Thinking in Healthcare STATISTICAL THINKING IN HEALTH CARE Jamie D. Grant Dr. Theodore Gorczyca MAT 510 Business Statistics February 5, 2016 The prescription filling process of the health maintenance organization (HMO) consists of the doctor sending the prescription to the pharmacy via paper with the patient, paper to the nurse who calls in the prescription with instructions, or faxing the prescription to the pharmacy. From there, the personnel at the pharmacy fill the prescription by inputting the information given to them into their computer in order to print the instructions and medication labels for the prescriptions. They then pull the requested medications per the instructions, fill the necessary containers to give to the patients, and label ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Handwriting has always been, and will remain, a problem in medicine. A 1979 study showed that it was difficult to interpret about half of all physicians handwritten orders. Little has changed since then, (In the long run, penmanship classes for doctors won t do much for patient safety, 2001). This has been an ongoing problem since inception. Therefore, the beginning of the process should be changed in this day and age of technology to have prescriptions entered into computers and handheld devices by the doctor, to ensure accuracy of the medication that is needed to be filled, and electronically sent to the pharmacy. Having a nurse call in prescriptions is a non value added activity that can be eliminated. This may be expensive at the start to implement, but in the long term, it will save both organizations time, help reduce errors, and add value to the level of service the organization gives. With this change, label errors should also be reduced as well, ensuring the patient receives the correct medicine and dosage. After implementing the technological advancements, the pharmacy will be required to keep a log of all medications brought back or called saying that they are the wrong medicine. These logs will be collected monthly to measure the amount of prescriptions filled wrong to determine if the changes are working. REFERENCES Esposito, Lisa. (2014). How to Deal With ... When they reach zero, something happens, something different for everyone. The floating numbers have never dropped that low for me. When Maria sees someone s timerreach zero, that person sneezes. Steven watches a clock bottom out as the person with that clock laughs. Even Kelsey saw a baby start to cry when it dropped its toy and its countdown hit zero. Me, never. Nobody I ve ever seen has hit zero, and it s been seventeen years. Seventeen years of friends learning what the countdowns they saw meant, seventeen years of people swearing up and down that I d see what my clockssymbolized, seventeen years of endless ticking, seventeen years of lies. My mom always used to say that meant I was special, that I still got to find out what my clocks meant at an age where I would remember my first time, where I would be able to relive the excitement. I never told her that my clocks aren t counting down. Of every person I ve ever talked to, they ve never seen their clocks count up, or freeze, or bounce between times. Oddly enough, none of them ever caught on that I was asking to see if I wasn t actually alone. Stupid jerks. • 10. Reliable Utilization of Family Life Cycle Information to... Problem Statement Market segmentation methods that reliably utilize information about family life cycle to ascertain consumers preferences for dining in restaurants have not been established. As a result, the foodservice industry may well be forgoing substantive opportunities to market to restaurant patrons and to strengthen the attractiveness of dining out experiences. Indeed, the tourism and hospitality literature points to a relation between the demographic attributes of families and food purchases that are made away from home. Evidence of a viable market can be taken from the rate of growth over several decades: the amount of discretionary money that American families spend on dining out has increased from 25% of their food budget to 50% in the years spanning 1955 to 2006. Data Analysis The family life cycle (FLC) conceit provides a method for reflecting the anticipated variations in purchasing patterns attributed to changes in the needs and capacities of families over the duration of the family unit life cycle (Lawson, 1988). However, the model has not held up well to sea changes in the composition, structure, and flux of modern family units (Lin Lehto, 2006). As recommended by Schaninger and Danko (993), the authors took an approach typical to the development of target market personas, such that they were able to categorize households in a manner that maximized between group variance. The resultant modifications collapsed the number of categories from eight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Judith Jarvis Thomson s A Defense Of Abortion Essay Judith Jarvis Thomson s A Defense of Abortion is a uniquely reasoned argument for the right to abortion that uses strong analogies to challenge pro life arguments that are based on the premise that a human life begins at the moment of conception. In this paper I will argue that Thomson is correct in her view and that her analogies solidify her argument, which then becomes impervious to criticism from philosophers like Keith J. Pavlischek or David B. Hershenov who bring up other factors irrelevant to Thomson argument that are easily disputable by facts. Thomson starts her paper by clarifying that while she does not agree with the premise that life begins at the moment of conception she is willing to accept it in her argument to prove that it is a counterpoint to abortion that is as weak as the rest of the pro life argument. In her essay, Thomson uses three major analogies to illustrate different scenarios to which abortion would be considered. The Violinist Analogy describes a pregnancythat has been induced by rape and, foreshadows to a section later in the essay, where she goes into detail about where the line is drawn when two innocent lives are at risk and what is the third party s role in the problem solving. It is a case in which the Society of Music Lovers has kidnapped you and attached you to a revered violinist who needs your kidneys to support him so he can live. Analyze the leadership styles(s) of a senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director, ect.) in your current or previous organization who made a positive or negative impact on you. In a previous organization I had a platoon sergeant by the name of Staff Sergeant Hardy. He was a very strategic leader who had the ability to anticipate, envision, maintain flexibility, think strategically, and works with others to initiate changes that created a positive future for our platoon /company (Williams, 2012). Sergeant Hardy ethics and values were very visible because he lived them in his actions every single day. A sample of 165 students who were high school freshmen and sophomores, ranging in age from 14 16 years, and were enrolled in a college preparatory social studies course in a small mid Atlantic private school were invited to participate. The alternate hypothesis was: There is a significant relationship between individuals IQ score rank and instructional media preference. In a correlational study, an alternate hypothesis claims that a relationship exists between the variables (Gilbert, 2006). A relationship means that where learners score on the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale is related to which medium they choose to use for instruction. Another way to write this is: Ha: ПЃXY в‰ 0, where Ha is the symbol for the alternative hypothesis, ПЃ for the significance which will be ≤0.5, and XY which represents the predictor variable, learner IQ, or X, paired with the criterion variable, or instructional media choice, or Y. For this study, the predictor variable, learner IQ score, is interpreted as a rank, an ordinal level of measurement and the criterion variable, instructional media preference, as a nominal level of measurement. According to Black (1999), Cramer s C (also known as V) is an appropriate statistical measure when a single sample examines ordinal and nominal levels of measurement. In fact, using Black s (1999) decision table for selecting association or correlation coefficients, the ordinal level of measurement, in this case learner IQ ranking, should be reduced to a nominal level (p.626). • 15. Essay on Cole Porter Musical theater has been filled with countless talented composers. The amount of talent in the theater world is endless, but only few composers gain iconic status. The Gershwins, Rogers Hammerstein, and Stephen Sondheim come to mind when thinking of the pinnacle of composing. One other man who deserves his permanent place with these others would be Cole Porter. Porter s extensive library of songs has become classics along with a series of hit musicals that are still done in high mass today. Porter had his share of incredibly tough times, and it simply only makes his rise to the top even more impressive. Porter reintroduced himself in 1928 with the musical Paris. This musical contained what is considered to be one of his best list songs, Let s Do It (Let s Fall In Love . For the next few years, Porter was constantly writing for huge shows and revues and was finally regaining his credibility as a writer. His peak of this time would come in 1934 with the timeless musical Anything Goes. Anything Goes is considered by many to be the greatest score of this period (and many people would say it is Porter s greatest ever as well). The original Off Broadway incarceration would go on to be revived several times on Broadway, winning many awards in the process. In addition to Broadway and theater, Cole also was constantly writing for Hollywood at the time as well. These scores included scores for Born to Dance in 1936, featuring You d Be So Easy to Love and I ve Got You Under My Skin , and Rosalie in 1937, featuring In the Still of the Night . Porter was once again living a life of luxury and happiness, constantly throwing parties and being in the presence of celebrities. It seemed as though Cole was on top again, until a tragic riding accident in 1937 crushed both of his legs, leaving him largely crippled. • 19. Edward II Film Analysis Christopher Marlowe s Edward II was published around 1594 and in 1991 Derek Jarman produced a film adaptation under the same title. Though these two works were produced almost four hundred years apart, many of the themes and aesthetics from the original are able to shine through a modern lense. The film successfully utilizes many of the original themes, motifs and characters as well as the plot without producing a carbon copy of the play. Jarman s ability to successfully transform the text to fit the socio political climate of his time is what sets this adaptation apart from similar works. The film adaptation of Edward II pays homage to its roots, and yet manages to set itself apart as an independent work of art. Though Jarman s film is modernized, it successfully borrows political and cultural themes of the early modern period. One of the political themes that it borrows is the idea of a ruling party deciding whom one can be in love with. In an article analyzing various works from Christopher Marlowe, author Mark Hutchings talks about the idea of effeminate rulers who neglect their duties are challenged and overthrown. (Hutchings, Marlowe s Greekish strumpet ). During the early modern period, the nobility was content with homosexual relationship if it did not interfere with their agenda. This is what is reflected in the play when the nobles are trying to rid the kingdom of Gaveston, but not get rid of Edward. While the original play serves to warn against distracted ... People use those new tools to do everything, and try hard to make human life easier and more perfect. From business to finances; industry to entertainment; services to education, the use of the Internet has increased and become more mainstream. It is a great challenge to distinguish which of them is true or credible; however, information from books is basically, generally believable. One of the reasons for this is that people can easily find out who the author and publisher are of a book. In contrast, an article from a web page may have trouble to prove its credibility. A Statement on Original Sin Essay A Statement on Original Sin First articulated by Augustine (A.D. 354 430), the doctrine of original sin holds that all of Adam s descendants inherit the guilt of Adam s sin and thus incur the punishment for Adam s sin. Inheriting Adam s guilt at birth, then, presumes one guilty before God at birth and destined for hell. This is the basis for the Catholic need for infant baptism, for the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception (that Mary herself was uniquely conceived free of Adam s guilt), and for the belief that salvation is only available through connection with the Church via baptism. Moreover, the belief that God holds Adam s descendants personally accountable for Adam s sin calls into question the importance of our own free will as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is, if we as Christian believers fail in gaining victory over sin even when we sincerely want to and try, the problem is not with us personally but in our state of having inherited both Adam s guilt and fallen nature. But Augustine s theology was flawed. While we have indeed inherited Adam s fallen nature, we have not inherited his guilt; thus, the universal suffering that humanity endures is not the punishment for Adam s sin in particular, it is the consequence of sin in general. And while our inherited fallen nature works against us in overcoming sin, this disadvantage can be overcome through the terms of the new covenant. By means of our personal connection with Christ, the power of God s grace is imparted by the Holy Spirit (sanctification) and accessed on our part through the exercise of our free will (which God honors for us every bit as much as He did for Adam). That is, God provides us moral victory (imparted righteousness) when we acknowledge our helpless condition and sincerely, continuously, and freely choose to surrender our lives to Christ and invite Him to have complete control over us i.e. Thy will be done in my life is our constant appeal; with Paul we say, I die [to self] daily (1 Cor. 15:31). Kaepernick sat to protest rampant police brutality and injustice against black people in the United States. This protestbecame a topic widely debated during the presidential election, and eventually when drafting season came around for football, Kaepernick was blackballed from joining any teams because of this controversy. The style of the diction suggests a familiarity with the subject that is not necessarily purposefully shown, but is evident in the way Achebe chooses his words and how he describes events throughout the book. Throughout the course of the book Achebe frequently uses African worlds and phrases to describe and show the different aspect of Igbo culture. The familiarity in, which the narrative focuses on the African language creates a sense of authenticity to the writing. What is unique about the narrative tone found within the book is that not only does the author frequently insert the african language within the diction, but the way he translates or explains the words in plain english so the readers who are unfamiliar with the language can still follow, for example: Agbala do o o o! The synoptic gospels, Mark, Matthew, and Luke in the new testament of the Bible are similar stories, sequence, and wording. The book of Matthew and Luke displays a viewpoint of the stories as told in the book of Mark. The three synoptic gospels stand in contrast to the book of John whose content is distinct. The role of miracles plays a critical role in the New Testament of the Bible in religious traditions in Christianity. The synoptic gospelsreflects unique differences regarding miracles of healing as told in Mark in contrast to Matthew and Luke. I plan to demonstrate the differences in two synoptic gospels by comparing and contrasting them to two miracles of healing in the book of Mark. The two miracles I will explore will include healing a woman of hemorrhages and a man with leprosy. The first miracle I will explore will be healing in the gospel of Mark. The key concepts of a chemical reaction are: The atoms and molecules that interact with each other are called reactants The molecules and atoms produced in a chemical reaction are called products No atoms are destroyed or created they only end up in other products Reactants collide with each other so new bonds between atoms in the reactants are broken, and atoms rearrange and form new bonds to make new products ... If temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of a system, higher temperature implies a higher average kinetic energy of molecules and more collisions per time. This would happen because when the temperature is increased and the reactants will start moving faster and will collide more than before with other reactants and will start forming products. Many testes are available to be able to determine if you have DM1. Some tests include electromyography, serum CK concentration, and a muscle biopsy. Checking allele sizes also help to determine whether or not you are positive for DM1. Unfortunately, since the disorder is rare, it is very difficult to predict a prognosis on it. Non molecular testing that has been used in the past to establish the diagnosis of DM1 currently has little role in diagnosis and is primarily used if molecular testing of DMPK does not identify the CTG repeat expansion and other myopathies are being considered. Judaism And The Temple Of Judaism Essay Have you ever noticed that when people talk of Jews, at least in a protestant church, that the Israelite legalism, rituals, dress and hair standards are the first things to mind? The topic of Judaism may come with stereotypical opinions and Christian Judgement that are without merit or understanding. Judaism, by a Christian worldview, had to change after Pentecost, since the animal sacrifice to atone for sin Christ completed on the Cross. However, Judaism does not accept this truth of Christ and His work on the cross, but Judaism remains in the world. So, what was this change in Judaism and when did it take place? There have been numerous fluctuations within Judaism, only the theme constructed in this essay has its foundations around the most important facet of Judaism the Temple. With the Temple in the forefront of this essay, we will discuss the modifications that Judaism went through, at what time, different perspectives that the destruction of the Temple had, and how the Christian sect views these vagaries. The Temple destruction of A.D. 70 converted the Jewish faith in its singular fashion, while, at the same point, the Jewish faith never had a total change by always changing throughout time. Before we can totally dive into how the Temple destruction changed Judaism, we must gain some knowledge of the Jewish faith itself, as well as Jewish terms. When we pick different creation stories from cultures and religions it s interesting to see what similarities and differences arise. This paper will analyze some of the similar and different aspects of three different creation stories. The first creation story is described in the Bible in Genesis 1 2:3, the second in Genesis 2:4 24, and the third is the creation story of the Kono people of Guinea called Death, and Life and Death. It s fascinating that each creation story hints at a common purpose for humans. In Genesis 1, humans are given ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Genesis 1, the creating power, God, creates plants on day three of the six days of creation. Living creatures (excluding humans) were created on the fifth and sixth days (ESV Gen 1:11 25). In the Genesis 2 creation account, the Lord God plants the Garden of Eden after he creates the man. He then creates animals in the same way he created the man and the man names all the animals (ESV Gen 2:7 20). In Death, and Life and Death, the god Alatangana consolidates the earth from mud, creates plants to cover the earth, and then creates animals to live on it ( Death, and Life and Death ). The creating power in Genesis 1 is referred to as God (ESV Gen 1:1 31; 2:1 3). What s interesting is that in Genesis 2, each time the creating power is referenced; he is referred to as the Lord God (ESV Gen. 2:4 25). Christians believe that God and the Lord God are the same being, but it s interesting that they aren t described with the same name. Still, both Genesis accounts creating powers differ from the Kono people s creation story Death, and Life and Death where the creator of all living things is named Alatangana and the creator of light and death is named Sa ( Death, and Life and ... • 40. Truths In The Canterbury Tales The author of the Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer, does try to show a world where everything is how it truly is and not as something that is fake. Throughout the story of The Wife of Bath he shows that knights should have a chivalry to uphold and should work hard to keep it. He also shows that everyday things that can be horrible end up happening in real life. Many times he also mentions religion and how it affects how some people are in the work of religion. Chivalry to uphold is a main part of the reason many knights had their place in society. They have a code of conduct in which they live by and they swear an oath to it. Many knights would swear to the oath but will break it if their loyalty wasn t in the right place. When getting this oath taken, the main thing knights will swear on is to lay their life on the line for the royal family and their home land. • 41. The Importance Of Colonialism In Italy When looking at the colonial experience of European countries, Italy stands out as a unique case. While the major imperial powers were carving up the Americas, Asia, and Africa at the height of European colonialism, Italy was just beginning to unify into a modern state. By the time that the Italians had unified and centralized, there were very few territories left that were not under Spanish, French, or British control. Thus, the Italian expansionists looked to the very few pieces of Africathat they could seize. This left them with Libya, Eritrea, Somalia, and Ethiopia. What makes the expansion particularly unique according to Daniela Baratieri is how the Italian people reacted to it and used it in media. She takes a close look at not just what was said, but also examining the historic silences, or topics that many Italians tried to ignore and bury. By reading into the pieces of their past that the Italians of the 20th century tried to obscure, Baratieri shows that sometimes the most important parts of history are the intentional silences. Baratieri uses a variety of sources to investigate how different generations of Italians dealt with colonialism. She uses newsreels, films, illustrated magazines, cartoons, and history books to provide a comprehensive picture of the feelings of each generation. These sources are particularly effective at showing the shift in ideas and opinions over time as well as showing important continuities that persisted, such as attitudes on race ... A Harsh Critique on Hierarchy and Difference Essay A Harsh Critique on Hierarchy and Difference Octavia Butler s trilogy Lilith s Brood contains a myriad of characters who would be marked as different in contemporary American society, whether it is because of their race, gender, sex, or species. Their differences are often the catalyst for conflict between others who see themselves as more normal and, therefore, better and higher ranked in the humanhierarchy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The humans understand that their only hope for survival is to learn from Lilith and that they are helpless without her but the Human Contradiction drives them to see her as a traitor to the human species (152). The Contradiction trumps their survival instinct as they would rather try to fend for themselves than to learn from Lilith. Some resistors die or nearly die because of the Contradiction. Lilith also has enhanced strength, which perturbs other humans. After getting hit by Lilith, the resentment of having to rely on Lilith flares up and causes victims to accuse Lilith of not being a woman because only a man can fight that way (147). Losing in a fight to Lilith essentially has others place the loser on a lower rank than the betrayer Lilith on the hierarchy. This embarrassment causes humans to be irrational and claim outlandish statements. This statement also examines the preconceptions of the abilities of males and females. Men are thought to be strong because it is a masculine feature. A woman who possesses masculine traits, like strength, must not be a woman at all. The reader clearly sees how ludicrous it is to only associate masculine with men and feminine with women. Most people are a mixture of both and yet society teaches us someone who is normal is either one or the other. These teachings result in humans marking other as different, which turns into xenophobia and ethnocentrism. Lilith demonstrates a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. How Does Glycolysis Affect Yeast Fermentation Abstract Sugars catabolize (break down) through the process of glycolysis. Glycolysis causes the sugar to undergo fermentation, which yields CO2. In this experiment, different sugar solutions were mixed with a yeast solution in order to see how fast and if they react to produce CO2. The yeast solution caused the sugar solutions to undergo glycolysis and produce CO2. Glucose syrup, White sugar, Artificial Sweetener all yielded CO2, yet Corn flour did not. Introduction The purpose behind this experiment is to identify a correlation between the production of CO2 when yeast is exposed to water and heat. Yeast being fungi requires nutrients (sugar/carbohydrates), water, heat and oxygen to grow and survive like most other living organism. As a bi product of its growth the fungi should produce CO2. Natural gas is found in the Marcellus shale which is a rock of sediment most prominently located in northeastern America. The sedimentary rock is thousands of feet down in the earth making it hard to obtain. Mankind was finally able to reach this rock through a technique called fracking which is simply a kind of drilling. • 48. Toni Morrison Literary Devices The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated. Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to those of that skin color.
