Coach Carter Analysis
Ken Carter A.K.A Coach Carter is a fictional character from the Docudrama Coach Carter. Ken shows
signs of an authoritarian complex as his personality has an exceedingly apparent correlation with;
sociopathy, draconian authority, and an almost dictator like persona. Using references from the film
we gain proof of Ken s autocratic demeanour. During the time after the Oilers (Richmond high
basketball team) win their first game Timo Cruz comes to the gym seeking to amalgamate with his
bygone team. Timo becoming a perfect caricature of penitence Ken acted against this remorse with a
gargantuan and quite frankly unattainable task (2500 push ups and 1000 suicides by Friday.) as a form
of punishment. This account provides evidence that Ken Carter s despotic and tyrannical personality
and values (Authority, Self Righteousness, Respect, Reputation, Status, and Success.). Ken Carter asks
each member of the Oilers Basketball Team to sign a contract stating; They must abstain from
dropping below a 2.4 GPA (Grade Point Average.), Attend each and every one of their classes, be
seated in the front row of each class, wear a tie on game day, and they must provide the local
community with 10 hours of community service each. Ken s son had a slightly different contract with
clauses stating he must possess a 3.7 GPA, Attend each and every class, no absences without a valid
reason and proof of that reason, be seated in the front row of each of his classes, wear a tie on game
day, and do 50

The Framework And Statutory Frameworks
The workforce has developed rapidly over the years in relation to policy and statutory frameworks,
with an emphasis upon the national curriculum in relation to literacy. The frameworks is influenced by
political aspects by theoretical and political aspects. This has been reflected within practice as policy
brings change and implications for practitioners and managers. Research has gone a long way to
implement the revised national curriculum which was due to the concerns raised due to the fact as a
country we are falling behind on the national league tables as we are in position 23 (DfEE, 2013),
which is quite disappointing as English is our first language within Britain, and we have made no
improvements within the last three years (DfEE, 2013). The Greeks did not just invent an alphabet;
they invented literacy and literature basis of modern thought (Blake, 2002. et al). Therefore, schooling
became longer because after an extended period of learning to read and write, children had become
exposed to the literary of culture. Pupils are now learning about the world through reading in
classrooms (King, 2000). Our view of literacy needs to be critically examined rather than accepted
unquestioningly. As Tobin et al, (1989) so fascinatingly demonstrates, our values affect our curriculum
and our judgements of children (Marsh et al, 2008, p.24). A need to bring an internal change is
necessary for people to live well in an environmentally responsible society which builds a

The Colonization Of New England
If you wanted to record the beginning of English colonist history in North America, you would have to
begin with the settlements of New England. The English colonists had to endure the ecological
challenges of New England, oppose to the conditions they were accustomed to in England. They also
had to coexist with the original inhabitants of the lands the Native American Indians for information
on techniques of agriculture for proper sustainability, and for trade pur poses. English colonists had to
obtain knowledge from Native Americans along with learning from trial and error to master the
ecological challenges they faced while establishing settlements within New England. Coping with
environmental challenges to facilitate survival on the day to day basis was the first hurdle the English
colonists had to overcome. The ultimate goal of the colonists was after mastering the terrain of New
England was to distinguish the natural commod ities of the region to obtain maximum production of
resources for profit to themselves and the mother country of Great Britain.
Before English colonists settled into the New England area the only human inhabitants that could ve
caused ecological change within the area where the Native American Indians. Eng lish colonists
perceive the Native Americans to be poor in living conditions and civil matters, but were rich with
abundance of resources which were the fruits of living in North America. The New England area in

Platforms And Interfaces Essay
A player s personal experience of transforming platforms and interfaces: from Game Boy to personal
computers
Introduction
Accept it or not, video games and gaming are a large part of Australian culture. The average
Australian 21 year old would have spent over 10,000 hours playing games (that s how long it takes to
complete school from year 5 to year 12). For immeasurable reasons such as involvement, freedom,
entertainment and story telling are games such a powerful medium of creative and interactive media7.
Due to my own personal experience with games and their distinct platforms and interfaces, this essay
will provide a comparative view of two gaming platforms; a hand held Game Boy Advance (GBA)
and a personal computer (PC). The GBA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The GBA was made particularly popular amongst gaming communities by games such as Zelda and
Pokémon. Coloured games were pleasant to look at and the interface overall is easy to use; a D pad, A
B buttons and triggers. This is partly as to why it was so popular among younger age group fans. The
hand held console used small ROM cartridges, and the console came in a variety of colours and shared
compatibility with other Nintendo consoles at the time (GameCube Game boy colour). Wireless
adaptors were one of the biggest innovations to effect GBA users. For the first time games like
Pokémon let players interact by battling and trading. The initial sense was that the game is bigger than
yourself and the screen you re looking at, the once single player experience can now be shared with
other friends (which I remember was a huge deal). Due to these circumstances, the GBA created a
strong following and as of June 2010, 81.51 million units were sold including 16 million copies of one
of their most popular bestselling games; Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire3.
Buying a PC is not cheap and can be quite expensive, which is why naturally you d only spend the
money if gaming was one of your biggest hobbies. There are companies that will assemble prebuilt
gaming computers, and establishments that retail mice, keyboards and headsets aimed toward gamers.

some sort. Her voice is soft gentle and high pitched. After committing suicide the dress she wore is
dark and gothic now looking damned.

Harry Arthur Is An Argument Of Globalization
Sara Aminaei Essay no.1 Q1. Harry Arthurs has argued that Globalization renders dysfunctional any
system based on national policies, laws, and institutions. Explain whether or not you find his argument
persuasive and support of your argument with reference to the substantive regulatory areas examined
in the course. The political climate in the western hemisphere has altered the judicial system in
Canada in numerous ways. Since the post war era we have seen a push for globalization and
neoliberalism and have been reassured consistently by the leaders on the global stage that this is
essential for our world economy to thrive. It is not reasonable to disagree with Arthur that
globalization has become a dominant theme and impacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this light, Canada, as one of the most open advanced economies in the world , has close to 60 to 70
per cent of GDP, which is attributable to both exports and imports (Arthurs 3). The heavy reliance on
globalization in Canada traces back to the political climate of the early 20th century due to it being a
loyal ally to the United States. Of course, unlike America, Canada does not have privatized groups on
the same scale. For instance, the United States has privatized health care and prison systems (in light
of the recent Trump administration universal healthcare is currently unknown). Through privatization
of major organizations, the government cuts its responsibility for some of the public programs and
relays it to the public. These private organizations keep propelling their agendas to increase their
wealth and power. This creates a conflict for our society as the government is not serving the needs for
everybody but the needs for the upper class. This act is often reinforced by lobbyist groups. The
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) defines lobbying as a follows: an organization will be regarded as
attempting to influence legislation if it contacts, or urges the public to contact, members or employees
of a legislative body for the purpose of proposing, supporting, or opposing legislation, or if the
organization advocates the adoption or rejection of legislation. The IRS is careful with wording to say

Adoptees Began The Adoption Reform
In the 1960s, adoptees began The Adoption Reform Movement to make sealed adoption records
accessible. Before then, traditional or closed adoptions were thought to be the best option for everyone
involved in the adoption triangle. This triad consists of the adoptee, adoptive parents, and biological
parents. In a closed adoption, the adoptee is not allowed access to medical records and does not know
their birth parents. Prior to the reform, people did not consider the ethical or moral problems that
would arise from these kind of adoptions. The belief was that sealed records would protect everyone,
but this is not the case. As adoptees grew into adults, the demand for more information on their birth
parents increased. This led to the debate of whether or not adoptees were entitled to know the identity
of their biological parents. The opposition from birth mothers appeared almost immediately after the
reform set about. These mothers were not ready to give up their own rights to make the decision
between open or closed adoption. Even though biological parents have the ability to choose, adoptees
have the right to know their biological parents because of the search process being emotionally
damaging, their need to access medical records, and their development as a child.
Some people believe that it is the biological parents personal choice to stay hidden based on their
situation. In defense of the birth mother and father, it is understandable that open adoption does not

Boogie Nights Essay
Boogie Nights
Boogie Nights is a film that aptly embodies the extravagant decadence of morals during the disco era,
while also creating empathy for the debauched innocents who find themselves caught up in a lifestyle
of hard core sex, drugs and rock and roll. Sadly, while attempting to replace the loving family
relationships they are lacking and in their search for self worth, these characters pay the highest price
for fame. The film deftly takes the viewer to the seedy underside of the pornography business. But,
like many of the young people who find themselves entangled in it, it is first introduced as a life of
each and luxury with many good times and no consequences. The film portrays the life of a unique

Boogie Nights is wonderfully written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and succeeds in
introducing in its viewer to a new perspective on a world often viewed socially with scorn. After
subtly choreographing the introduction of the relationships between characters, the film then
highlights a slice of each individual s life, giving the viewer a further insight into their motivations
and/or regrets. Each character is searching for something that is missing in their lives, and the
pornography business seems to provide them with what they are lacking. This is evidenced when Dirk
s need for a loving mother figure is fulfilled by Amber, who desperately wants to be reunited with her
estranged son.
Amber (Julianne Moore), a veteran in the business, quickly takes Dirk under her protective maternal
wing by providing him with something he has never had, the unconditional love of a mother. Amber s
maternal displays of affection are incestuously infected at best, but they still manage to portray a deep
and much needed love between the two. Young Dirk is given every indulgence a 17 year old boy could
dream of, including the invitation to mindlessly couple with one of the bright young porn stars, Roller

School Lunch Programs For Children
Every day, millions of school children around the world take advantage of school lunch programs.
Depending on the financial situation of their families, some of these students may qualify to get these
lunches for free. For the poorest children, this may be the only meal they get all day. For the rest of the
children who are not living in poverty, these program allow them to purchase a hot meal during school
at a very low price. While these school lunch programs help out countless students in many countries
around the world, there are numerous problems associated with them. Often, standards for food

For many of these children, this may be the only meal they get all day. While this program could be a
life saver for millions, it is plagued with problems that pose a serious threat to the students. Various
insects are commonly found in the food, including worms. In addition, larger animals including lizards
have also been found, causing 16 students to feel dizzy. Worse still, in 2013, at least 22 children were
dead after poison in the school lunch, with dozens more hospitalized. By nightfall...officials said they
believed they had found the cause: cooking oil stored in a container formerly used for insecticides
(Harris). The problem with school lunches in India is the lack of proper storage facilities (Chatterjee).
The schools lacked the finances to have dry locations to store grain, and as a result, a lot had to be
stored in the open. Once it starts raining, the bugs move in. Additionally, the people living in these
parts of India cannot afford to throw things away. As a result, everything is reused, especially.
Unfortunately, the insecticide container was not marked properly, and therefore food products were
stored inside. The government of India had good intentions when starting this free school lunch
program. Without doubt, it prevented many children from starving to death, and set minimum
guidelines for the number of calories and protein that lunches

Cherokee Indian Rights Of Passage Analysis
Rights of passage are a big part in your life and your relatives. There are many rites of passage and
they all differ from each other. The Medicine Bag , The Apache Girl ,and the Cherokee Indians all
have to face their right of passage. The Medicine Bag is about a boy named Martin who is given a
medicine bag as his right of passage. The Apache Girl is about a girl named Dachina who s rite of
passage leads her into womanhood. The Cherokee Indians right of passage has the boy sit through the
night alone in a forest to show that he is a man. These 3 stories have many similarities and differences
in their rites of passage. They also are written in different formats which makes your understanding of
the topic different. The Medicine Bag , The Apache Girl , and the Cherokee Indians all have very
similar rites of passage. They all have to accomplish something to become a woman or a man in their
tribe. The Apache Girl and the Cherokee Indians both have to show strength and confidence. Dacina
has to dance for 10 hours and the Cherokee Indians have to sit on a log through the night with a
blindfold on. This helps them show that they are strong enough to become a member of the tribe. The
Medicine Bag and the Cherokee Indians also have similar rights of passage because they both don t
have to face their journey alone. During Martin s right of passage his grandpa passes the bag down to

Field of Practice Social work evolved in the United States during the time of the Industrial Revolution
when people started moving into urban areas and social issues such as poverty, prostitution and child
labor became problematic. Social work was initially done through missionaries and charities;
however, formalized education came into being in 1898. According to the Counsel of Social Work

Malcolm X-The Power Of Language
The Power of Language
If I say that I am currently employed with a major petroleum distribution center, you may think that I
am a highly qualified person making limitless amounts of money. However, I am using the power of
language to merely say that I work at a gas station making minimum wage. Great historical figures
throughout history have used the power of language, the ability to use words to their advantage, to
inspire people to unite under one common cause and to change the world.
Some of the most influential writers are those who appear in Language Awareness. Helen Keller was
unable to hear and unable to see but came through her inabilities and inspired others to succeed.

As she was playing with it her teacher spelled doll in her hand. Helen was intrigued by these hand

an inspiration to so many people because she had such an impossible handicap to overcome. Many
people with disabilities still look up to her because she used language to tell her story. She has
changed millions of lives because of her power of language.
Malcolm X had the authority over the power of language. He writes, Many who hear me today
somewhere in person, or those who read something I said, will think I went to school far beyond the
eighth grade. The reason that Malcolm X was capable to get so many believers to follow his
convictions was because he knew how to command rhetoric. The impressions people got from him
were due entirely to his studies of the dictionary while he was in prison. As he wrote his first letters to
the Mayor of Boston, to the Governor of Massachusetts, and to Harry S. Truman, he realized that he
could not get his thoughts onto his letters. He didn t have the vocabulary he needed to write the letter
appropriately. He saw that the best thing he could do was to get a hold of a dictionary, to study and
learn a wider range of vocabulary. He began by copying a single page, which eventually led to a
replica of the complete dictionary. He now had a vocabulary that permitted him to get his entire

Opponents Of The Electoral College System
Opponents of the Electoral College system also point to the risk of so called faithless Electors. A
faithless Elector is one who is pledged to vote for his party s candidate for president but nevertheless
votes for another candidate. There have been 7 such Electors in this century and as recently as 1988
when a Democrat Elector in the State of West Virginia cast his votes for Lloyd Bensen for president
and Michael Dukakis for vice president instead of the other way around. Faithless Electors have never
changed the outcome of an election, though, simply because most often their purpose is to make a
statement rather than make a difference. That is to say, when the electoral vote outcome is so
obviously going to be for one candidate or the other, an occasional Elector casts a vote for some
personal favorite knowing full well that it will not make a difference in the result. Still, if the prospect
of a faithless Elector is so fearsome as to warrant a Constitutional amendment, then it is possible to
solve the problem without abolishing the Electoral College merely by eliminating the individual
Electors in favor of a purely mathematical process (since the individual Electors are no longer
essential to its operation).
Harm 2: direct popular vote does not encourage the cohesiveness of the country by not requiring a
distribution of popular support to be elected president
the Electoral College system contributes to the cohesiveness of the country by requiring a

Emily Grierson s Time
Time Does Not Stand Still Miss Emily Grierson was a proper lady of Jefferson. Unfortunately for her,
she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She avoided
any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without her. The story
takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took place some time
between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some problems for Miss Emily. That
was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change for the South. Not only did the South
have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from agriculture to factories with almost the same pace.
Most of the people in Jefferson had someone to go through these changes with, but Emily did not.
Clearly her father was wealthy. He would have owned a fair amount of slaves, one of whom was

Before, she had not had anyone to help her through the change, but now she did not have anyone at
all. There was no one to remind her of the passage of time. The only one who might have done this
was Tobe, and as he was a Negro, he did not count in her mind. Homer probably helped her to accept
the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with time again,
she lost him. He threatened to leave her, so she trapped him in time with her. William Faulkner grew
up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing. Born in 1897, he was too young to have
watched slavery die, and yet he knew many of those who had. A Rose for Emily could easily have had
its beginnings in someone he knew through childhood. After all, he watched those around him fall into
poverty because their wealth was based on their human property. Once they lost that, they lost their
fortune as well. It must have been easy for William Faulkner to picture them losing their mind as

Boundless Fluorine Essay
Introduction The elemental group F, Cl, Br, I, and At, located in the seventeenth column of the
periodic table, are known as Halogens. Halogens are nonmetals and they have an effective nuclear
charge, because of this they re highly electronegative. Due to their electronegativity, they re very
reactive and they gain electrons through reactions with other elements. However, halogens can be very
harmful or deadly to biological organisms. Physical properties of Halogens When the electron shells
are filled, the atoms get bigger as you go down the group of halogens. When fluorine is a diatomic
molecule, the F F bond is quite weak (Boundless. Halogens. Halogens | Boundless ... Show more

The color of this element reflects the reactivity of it. The appearance is a very pale yellow green. This
element is a dangerously reactive gas. In fact it s one of the most reactive of all the elements and
reacts mostly to metals. An example of this is when steel wood is exposed to fluorine it bursts into
flames ( Fluorine Element Information, Properties and Uses | Periodic Table. Royal Society of
Chemistry). Which also explains why they used fluorine in the Second World War to help develop the
atom bomb and other projects having to do with that. It s also been used to help make gases for high
powered transformers. It s also used in teflon, cable insulation, plumbers tape, and a base for
waterproof shoes and clothes. Chlorine has a similar look to fluorine. Chlorine is a yellow green dense
gas. It has a very distinct smell to it and has been used as a chemical weapon. It also kills bacteria and
is used as a disinfectant. Chlorine disinfects drinking water and swimming pool water and is also used
in organic chemistry. It can be used as an oxidising agent and in substitution reactions. But in the past
it was used to make chloroform. Since chlorine is poisonous it was used as a chemical weapon during

Greek Mythology Research Paper
Greek myths served numerous purposes in early Greece. When the Greeks first walked on the world,
they did not know what anything was. Mythology and the Greek gods were created by human beings
to explain the world around them. Because of the exploration and theories done by the Greeks, they
had a better understanding of the Earth. In Mythology by Edith Hamilton, the purposes that the Greek
myths served ranged from educational morals, all the way to pure amusement. To start off, the first
purpose that the Greek myths served is to teach lessons. In Greek mythology, people are presented
with life lessons and there are many lessons to be learned. The storytellers during early Greece passed
important lessons to other people to help them with making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Greek poets, such as Homer, created epic stories based on ancient legends. An epic is a long poem
about great heroes and their deeds. People during ancient Greece loved epics, and it put on a show for
them. In a myth called Zeus and the Years of Life , readers learn of what Zeus accomplished during
his early years. In this myth, Zeus created many breeds of animals, and he preset the amount of years
that the animals live. Zeus gave ravens two hundred years, sea turtles three hundred years, whales five
hundred years, and elephants get one hundred and fifty years of life. Also, Zeus gave butterflies only
three days of life. Also, Zeus creates humans in this myth. To add on, in the myth called Echidna ,
Echidna was a goddess who was immortal. Her chemistry was part beautiful woman and part
fearsome snake. It is believed that she gave birth to a majority of the monsters in Greek mythology.
Because of this, her nickname is Mother of All Monsters . Many writers believe that that Tartarus and
Gaia raised Echidna, and others believe that Echidna was the offspring of Peiras and Styx. Regardless,
when Typhon and Echidna bombarded the Olympians, Zeus fortunately refrained from killing
Echidna, and he left her as a challenge for the future heroes; but soon enough, Echidna was killed in
her sleep. In ancient Greece, this myth provided pleasure and amusement for the Greeks since there

Thomas Cochrane s Life And Life
Thomas Cochrane was born on December 14, 1775 in Annsfield, Scotland. He was the eldest son of
Archibald and Anna Gilchrist Cochrane, and had three brothers: Archibald, Basil and William.
Thomas received little to no formal schooling, which taught him to be self reliant and practical.
Thomas shared his eccentricity and intellectual curiosity with his father, a scientist and inventor. In
November of 1784, Anna Cochrane passed away. Soon after, Thomas was sent to Mr. Chauvet s
military academy in Kensington, London. His father had secured this role for Thomas through
aristocratic connections, however, it was not Thomas dream. In 1792, Thomas finished military
schooling, but decided to join the navy instead. Thankfully for Thomas, his uncle, ... Show more

When Thomas came aboard, the Hind had been ordered to prepare to go south. In fall of 1793, his
uncle learned he had been appointed to command the Thetis. The crew was transferred and Thomas
was given the opportunity to prepare the ship for sea. Had inherited from his father an intense passion
for understanding how things worked and how they could be improved. Over the next two years,
Thomas learned all aspects of a ship, including how to do each specialist trade and how to handle a
boat in all weather conditions. This practical working knowledge of a ship and seamanship would
prove to benefit him greatly when he commanded his own vessel. On April 13, 1795, Cochrane joined
the Africa, a 64 gun ship. He spent 5 weeks as acting lieutenant. He eventually reboarded the Thetis as
acting second lieutenant and waited for an official promotion. These skills allowed Thomas to take the
lieutenant s exams, which he passed in 1796. Soon after, Cochrane was appointed as lieutenant on the
flagship the Resolution. It was an extremely peaceful boat; the officers got along and the crew was
enjoyed their work, but cochrane understood that promotion was not likely aboard the Resolution. In
1798, he reboarded his uncles frigate and sailed for EnglanD where he was appointed eighth lieutenant
on Lord Keith s flagship HMS Barfleur, serving in the Mediterranean.

Andrew Carnegie s Impact On Society
Between 1865 and 1901, Andrew Carnegie played a great role in innovation and made America the
most major industrial nation in the world (www.socyberty.com). Living a destitute early life, Carnegie
went to night school and educated himself as much as he could as a child (www.britannica.com).
Because he could read and write, Carnegie, the only son of a weaver, became one of the richest men in
America (www.myinterestingfacts.com). Carnegie warms hearts of society with one of his most
compelling quotes which states I began to learn what poverty meant. He would later write, It was
burnt into my heart when that my father had to beg for work. Then and there came the resolve that I

He stated, You have to keep the money only for the necessity of the family. The rest of the money that
you own should be utilized to increase the value of society (myinterestingdfacts.com). Carnegie so

donate. He believed that everyone should give their money to make the world around them a better
place for everyone, including them. This quote explains why he granted over ninety percent of all of
his wealth by the time he died. Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,
for such sacrifices are pleasing to God (openbible.info). Although Carnegie donated all of his wealth,
nothing would have changed if society did not utilize the money wisely. Carnegie once said, You

Nursing Professional Portfolios
Portfolios have been used to showcase the work of artists, fashion designers, models, photographers
and architects, spanning several decades (M.Williams., K.Jordan., 2007) These career portfolios have
been adopted in to the nursing profession where they serve as an augmentation but not a replacement
of their curriculum vitae (Lettus, 2001). They have not only transcended beyond the traditional listing
of basic information such as relevant past work experiences and positions held, educational
institutions attended and achievements but provide additional information that resumes would have
presented (M.J. Jone., 2007). A professional portfolio is a thoughtfully prepared and organised
compilation of different types of professional information and evidence that illustrate an individual s
record of continuing professional development activities, skills, experiences, knowledge,
competencies, professional achievements and goals as well as their level of expertise that one has
attained as a result of their experiences. (Andre Heartfield, 2011)The basic components of a
professional portfolio include personal details, resume and documents such as certificates graduate
transcripts, licensure, (Davis, 2015) professional organisation memberships, professional awards,
annual performance appraisals, dates of promotions, recommendations from current or previous
supervisors or employers, peers and others (Timmins Duffy, 2011). ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Screening Pornland By Gail Dines Blurred...
The screening Pornland, produced by Gail Dines, focuses on the pornography industry and how the
visuality of gender and sexuality influences gender construction and the power level between males
and females. The pornography industry constructs males as dominant humans who have no capacity
for love or empathy while females are portrayed as helpless and vulnerable. Moreover, the screening
highlights how sexualised images from pornographic films are slowly becoming a part of popular
culture, especially music videos, television shows and films. For example, the music video of the song
Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke uses a variation of softcore porn, consequently implementing
pornography into normalised culture. The production of pornography is

King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Superman Essay
Rick Riordan said A hero can go anywhere, challenge anyone, as long as he has the nerve. and he is
correct because that is exactly what King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Superman do. They risk their very
own lives and put themselves in front of others with their courageous acts from fighting great green
knights to fighting the towns super villain. They do it all just to protect their city. The culture of the
Medieval Ages valued with bravery and courtly love which was reflected in the exploits and
adventures of King Arthur and Sir Gawain; the modern culture trait of compassion is embodied in the
modern hero Superman.
Chivalry based its rules first on the knight s duty to defend the people he had promised to defend. To

Comparing it to Superman it shows his love life does not compare to this at all. Chretien s Lancelot is
a classic courtly lover. His total devotion to Arthur s queen gives expression to the twelfth century s
exploration of a new code of elegant courtship. (Medieval Arthurian Romances) Launcelot, falling in
love with King Arthur s queen, wife, Gwynevere is known as a courtly lover because he risks his life
just to save her even though they are not married showing his true devotion to the King and Queen.
According to Allen King Arthur s favorite knight, Sir Launcelot, has fallen in love with the king s
wife, Gwynevere. The secret love affair is exposed by Sir Modred, Arthur s son by another woman,
and Gwynevere is sentenced to burn at the stake. While rescuing the imprisoned Gwynevere,
Launcelot slays two knights who, unknown to him at the time, are the brother of Sir Gawain, a
favorite nephew of Arthur s. After a reconciliation, Launcelot returns Gwynevere to Arthur to be
reinstated as queen. (Allen 248)
By this statement the reader can conclude they are resembling bravery in Sir Launcelot to risk his life
to save a woman that is not his, although Gwynevere is not his wife, but lover, he risked everything to
save her life. Also act resembles courtly love. This idea is also

Disaster Management Of Risky Locations
Disaster Management in Risky Locations Introduction Disasters such as tsunamis, floods,
earthquakes, landslides, and terrorism pose major economic, social, and political concerns to people.
However, it is astonishing that the areas disposed to such unexpected occurrences are liked and
preferred by human beings for habitation purposes. These include coastal areas which floods when the
amount of rainfall increase or are affected by tornadoes and tsunamis due to their proximity to the
coast; mountainous areas which have the possibility of experiencing landslides; and overpopulated
cities which are either poorly serviced with social amenities such garbage collection, or are targeted by
terrorists for attacks. Other people stay in such places in order to be close to their families or because
the lands on which they dwell is their ancestral land, which they would not wish to lose. Thus, the
risks involved in such places are many and needs to be addressed before the tragedies strike (Haddow,
Bullock Coppola, 2013). This paper seeks to critically discuss and analyze these trends of living in
disaster prone areas, whether or not there are other ways of making the society safer and the
possibility of people continuing to live and or work in these environments. Trends of Living in
Disaster Prone Areas: The Difficulties in Breaking the Tendencies to Stay The connection which
individuals have with the places they are accustomed to living or working, is strong and it becomes

History Day Compromises
This years topic for National History Day is Conflict and Compromise in History and i chose my topic
as Berlin After WWII. I feel like this subject ties in with the topic very well and in this proposal paper
i will tell you why I think that. My topic Takes one of the biggest conflicts of all time and explains the
compromises of berlin. I feel like my topic fits into the theme of this year very well because it deals
with one of the most know compromises of WWII. I chose this topic because my favorite topic to
study in history is WWII and the effects of it, a very big part in American History. This topic is very
significant Because this war had such a great effect on germany and it changed everyone s life for
years to come. Germany was split into two halves, the east side and the west side. The more favorable
half of germany was the west side, as the east side was communist. This separation changed the lives

more books i have the more informed i can become on this topic that really interests me. So far the
two main sources i have used for research are the John F. Kennedy Library (jfklibrary.org) and The
Cold War a New History by John Lewis Gaddis. These 2 main sources I have at the moment all
support this topic in being a conflict and compromise in history. They both have great facts on the
separation of berlin and the building of the Berlin Wall. They both explain how both sides reacted and
how life changed for the Germans. These sources explain the significance of the events in

Argumentative Essay On Diesel Engines
Whenever people think of diesel engines, they imagine black soot pouring out of a big rig on the
interstate. While that has been correct in the past, the technology is arriving that changes people s
thoughts to that of a more ecologically friendly. Ever since Rudolf Diesel created the diesel engine, it
has been written off as a smelly, inefficient, and dirty way of converting fossil fuels into power. Diesel
noticed how the steam engines of the times were wasting 80 90% of the fuel they burn, making them
very inefficient. After learning about how inefficient typical gas or steam engines were, he dedicated
himself to create a clean burning engine. In the beginning, the stereotypes were completely accurate,
but those same adjectives are simply incorrect in today s times. These constant put downs by
environmentalist are often uneducated and generalized by the small number of older, inefficient trucks
that are still on the road. The modern diesel engine is an absolute marvel when it comes to the fuel
efficiency, power output and societal benefits. While the light duty diesel pickup may be loud and
intimidating, the benefits they provide society are vastly underappreciated and need to be more
thoroughly recognized.
Diesel trucks are literally cooler than gas trucks, they are a colder running motor and the explosion
inside the engine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brian s Hunt By Gary Paulen Character Analysis
My favorite character in Brian s Hunt, by Gary Paulsen, is Brian. He is my favorite because he is
caring, brave, and is very self sufficient. Also at a young age, Brian has learned many survival and life
skills, although because of the time he has spent in the woods I feel that he became more anti social
and more introverted. Throughout the story, Brian mainly communicates with two other characters,
one which is an unnamed dog and the other a Cree girl named Kay gwa daush. Due to Brian being in
the woods, most of the characters are animals and Cree Indians. From my perspective, the bear is the
antagonist because it has wounded the dog and several other people. Also, I also believe that the
antagonist role is portrayed by the environment because

  • 2. Coach Carter Analysis Ken Carter A.K.A Coach Carter is a fictional character from the Docudrama Coach Carter. Ken shows signs of an authoritarian complex as his personality has an exceedingly apparent correlation with; sociopathy, draconian authority, and an almost dictator like persona. Using references from the film we gain proof of Ken s autocratic demeanour. During the time after the Oilers (Richmond high basketball team) win their first game Timo Cruz comes to the gym seeking to amalgamate with his bygone team. Timo becoming a perfect caricature of penitence Ken acted against this remorse with a gargantuan and quite frankly unattainable task (2500 push ups and 1000 suicides by Friday.) as a form of punishment. This account provides evidence that Ken Carter s despotic and tyrannical personality and values (Authority, Self Righteousness, Respect, Reputation, Status, and Success.). Ken Carter asks each member of the Oilers Basketball Team to sign a contract stating; They must abstain from dropping below a 2.4 GPA (Grade Point Average.), Attend each and every one of their classes, be seated in the front row of each class, wear a tie on game day, and they must provide the local community with 10 hours of community service each. Ken s son had a slightly different contract with clauses stating he must possess a 3.7 GPA, Attend each and every class, no absences without a valid reason and proof of that reason, be seated in the front row of each of his classes, wear a tie on game day, and do 50 ... • 3. The Framework And Statutory Frameworks The workforce has developed rapidly over the years in relation to policy and statutory frameworks, with an emphasis upon the national curriculum in relation to literacy. The frameworks is influenced by political aspects by theoretical and political aspects. This has been reflected within practice as policy brings change and implications for practitioners and managers. Research has gone a long way to implement the revised national curriculum which was due to the concerns raised due to the fact as a country we are falling behind on the national league tables as we are in position 23 (DfEE, 2013), which is quite disappointing as English is our first language within Britain, and we have made no improvements within the last three years (DfEE, 2013). The Greeks did not just invent an alphabet; they invented literacy and literature basis of modern thought (Blake, 2002. et al). Therefore, schooling became longer because after an extended period of learning to read and write, children had become exposed to the literary of culture. Pupils are now learning about the world through reading in classrooms (King, 2000). Our view of literacy needs to be critically examined rather than accepted unquestioningly. As Tobin et al, (1989) so fascinatingly demonstrates, our values affect our curriculum and our judgements of children (Marsh et al, 2008, p.24). A need to bring an internal change is necessary for people to live well in an environmentally responsible society which builds a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The English colonists had to endure the ecological challenges of New England, oppose to the conditions they were accustomed to in England. They also had to coexist with the original inhabitants of the lands the Native American Indians for information on techniques of agriculture for proper sustainability, and for trade pur poses. Coping with environmental challenges to facilitate survival on the day to day basis was the first hurdle the English colonists had to overcome. • 5. Platforms And Interfaces Essay A player s personal experience of transforming platforms and interfaces: from Game Boy to personal computers Introduction Accept it or not, video games and gaming are a large part of Australian culture. The average Australian 21 year old would have spent over 10,000 hours playing games (that s how long it takes to complete school from year 5 to year 12). For immeasurable reasons such as involvement, freedom, entertainment and story telling are games such a powerful medium of creative and interactive media7. Due to my own personal experience with games and their distinct platforms and interfaces, this essay will provide a comparative view of two gaming platforms; a hand held Game Boy Advance (GBA) and a personal computer (PC). The GBA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The GBA was made particularly popular amongst gaming communities by games such as Zelda and Pokémon. Coloured games were pleasant to look at and the interface overall is easy to use; a D pad, A B buttons and triggers. This is partly as to why it was so popular among younger age group fans. The hand held console used small ROM cartridges, and the console came in a variety of colours and shared compatibility with other Nintendo consoles at the time (GameCube Game boy colour). Wireless adaptors were one of the biggest innovations to effect GBA users. For the first time games like Pokémon let players interact by battling and trading. The initial sense was that the game is bigger than yourself and the screen you re looking at, the once single player experience can now be shared with other friends (which I remember was a huge deal). Due to these circumstances, the GBA created a strong following and as of June 2010, 81.51 million units were sold including 16 million copies of one of their most popular bestselling games; Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire3. Buying a PC is not cheap and can be quite expensive, which is why naturally you d only spend the money if gaming was one of your biggest hobbies. Harry Arthurs has argued that Globalization renders dysfunctional any system based on national policies, laws, and institutions. The political climate in the western hemisphere has altered the judicial system in Canada in numerous ways. In this light, Canada, as one of the most open advanced economies in the world , has close to 60 to 70 per cent of GDP, which is attributable to both exports and imports (Arthurs 3). The heavy reliance on globalization in Canada traces back to the political climate of the early 20th century due to it being a loyal ally to the United States. Of course, unlike America, Canada does not have privatized groups on the same scale. For instance, the United States has privatized health care and prison systems (in light of the recent Trump administration universal healthcare is currently unknown). Through privatization of major organizations, the government cuts its responsibility for some of the public programs and relays it to the public. These private organizations keep propelling their agendas to increase their wealth and power. This creates a conflict for our society as the government is not serving the needs for everybody but the needs for the upper class. This act is often reinforced by lobbyist groups. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) defines lobbying as a follows: an organization will be regarded as attempting to influence legislation if it contacts, or urges the public to contact, members or employees of a legislative body for the purpose of proposing, supporting, or opposing legislation, or if the organization advocates the adoption or rejection of legislation. • 10. Adoptees Began The Adoption Reform In the 1960s, adoptees began The Adoption Reform Movement to make sealed adoption records accessible. Before then, traditional or closed adoptions were thought to be the best option for everyone involved in the adoption triangle. This triad consists of the adoptee, adoptive parents, and biological parents. In a closed adoption, the adoptee is not allowed access to medical records and does not know their birth parents. Prior to the reform, people did not consider the ethical or moral problems that would arise from these kind of adoptions. The belief was that sealed records would protect everyone, but this is not the case. As adoptees grew into adults, the demand for more information on their birth parents increased. This led to the debate of whether or not adoptees were entitled to know the identity of their biological parents. The opposition from birth mothers appeared almost immediately after the reform set about. These mothers were not ready to give up their own rights to make the decision between open or closed adoption. Even though biological parents have the ability to choose, adoptees have the right to know their biological parents because of the search process being emotionally damaging, their need to access medical records, and their development as a child. Some people believe that it is the biological parents personal choice to stay hidden based on their situation. • 18. Opponents Of The Electoral College System Opponents of the Electoral College system also point to the risk of so called faithless Electors. A faithless Elector is one who is pledged to vote for his party s candidate for president but nevertheless votes for another candidate. There have been 7 such Electors in this century and as recently as 1988 when a Democrat Elector in the State of West Virginia cast his votes for Lloyd Bensen for president and Michael Dukakis for vice president instead of the other way around. Faithless Electors have never changed the outcome of an election, though, simply because most often their purpose is to make a statement rather than make a difference. That is to say, when the electoral vote outcome is so obviously going to be for one candidate or the other, an occasional Elector casts a vote for some personal favorite knowing full well that it will not make a difference in the result. Still, if the prospect of a faithless Elector is so fearsome as to warrant a Constitutional amendment, then it is possible to solve the problem without abolishing the Electoral College merely by eliminating the individual Electors in favor of a purely mathematical process (since the individual Electors are no longer essential to its operation). • 21. Emily Grierson s Time Time Does Not Stand Still Miss Emily Grierson was a proper lady of Jefferson. Unfortunately for her, she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She avoided any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without her. The story takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took place some time between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some problems for Miss Emily. That was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change for the South. Not only did the South have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from agriculture to factories with almost the same pace. Most of the people in Jefferson had someone to go through these changes with, but Emily did not. Clearly her father was wealthy. He would have owned a fair amount of slaves, one of whom was probably Tobe, the Negro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before, she had not had anyone to help her through the change, but now she did not have anyone at all. There was no one to remind her of the passage of time. The only one who might have done this was Tobe, and as he was a Negro, he did not count in her mind. Homer probably helped her to accept the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with time again, she lost him. He threatened to leave her, so she trapped him in time with her. William Faulkner grew up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing. Born in 1897, he was too young to have watched slavery die, and yet he knew many of those who had. A Rose for Emily could easily have had its beginnings in someone he knew through childhood. After all, he watched those around him fall into poverty because their wealth was based on their human property. Once they lost that, they lost their fortune as well. Halogens are nonmetals and they have an effective nuclear charge, because of this they re highly electronegative. Due to their electronegativity, they re very reactive and they gain electrons through reactions with other elements. However, halogens can be very harmful or deadly to biological organisms. In fact it s one of the most reactive of all the elements and reacts mostly to metals. An example of this is when steel wood is exposed to fluorine it bursts into flames ( Fluorine Element Information, Properties and Uses | Periodic Table. Royal Society of Chemistry). Which also explains why they used fluorine in the Second World War to help develop the atom bomb and other projects having to do with that. It s also been used to help make gases for high powered transformers. It s also used in teflon, cable insulation, plumbers tape, and a base for waterproof shoes and clothes. Chlorine has a similar look to fluorine. Chlorine is a yellow green dense gas. It has a very distinct smell to it and has been used as a chemical weapon. It also kills bacteria and is used as a disinfectant. Chlorine disinfects drinking water and swimming pool water and is also used in organic chemistry. Disaster Management Of Risky Locations Disaster Management in Risky Locations Introduction Disasters such as tsunamis, floods, earthquakes, landslides, and terrorism pose major economic, social, and political concerns to people. However, it is astonishing that the areas disposed to such unexpected occurrences are liked and preferred by human beings for habitation purposes. These include coastal areas which floods when the amount of rainfall increase or are affected by tornadoes and tsunamis due to their proximity to the coast; mountainous areas which have the possibility of experiencing landslides; and overpopulated cities which are either poorly serviced with social amenities such garbage collection, or are targeted by terrorists for attacks. While that has been correct in the past, the technology is arriving that changes people s thoughts to that of a more ecologically friendly. Ever since Rudolf Diesel created the diesel engine, it has been written off as a smelly, inefficient, and dirty way of converting fossil fuels into power. Diesel noticed how the steam engines of the times were wasting 80 90% of the fuel they burn, making them very inefficient. After learning about how inefficient typical gas or steam engines were, he dedicated himself to create a clean burning engine. In the beginning, the stereotypes were completely accurate, but those same adjectives are simply incorrect in today s times. These constant put downs by environmentalist are often uneducated and generalized by the small number of older, inefficient trucks that are still on the road. The modern diesel engine is an absolute marvel when it comes to the fuel efficiency, power output and societal benefits.
