Ethical Ethics And Corporate Ethics Essay
Ethics are principles of behavior based on the ideas of what is good and what is bad. Business
ethics, or also known as corporate ethics, is a form of ethics that is used in the business
environment. The study of business ethics looks at the decisions that businesses make and whether
those decisions taken are right or wrong. Many company executives are unethical, because their
number one goal is not to satisfy customers, or clients; Instead their number one goal is to make as
much profit as they can no matter what. What this type of companies fail to realize is that there is
long run and short run profit maximization. A company can maximize its profits by in the short run
by being unethical; however, in the long run, the bad publicity, lawsuits, etc. will make the
company suffer plenty in both the public appearance and the monetary aspect. One of the biggest
legal scandals of a company being unethical was in 2001, when, Enron, a natural gas pipeline
company went from having $65 billions in assets to being bankrupt 24 days after. Enron
Corporation was founded in 1985, in Houston, Texas, it was a merger between Houston Natural Gas
Co. and InterNorth Inc. Enron reached dramatic heights, it was the seventh largest corporation in
America, and named the Most innovative company by Fortune magazine for 6 years straight. Enron
innovated the entire natural gas market by adding a natural gas trading segment; making it the
world s largest energy trading company. At its peak

Essay On Assault Weapons
Policy:
At least 84 people have been killed and 119 have been injured so far this year in 86 shooting
incidents involving assault style rifles, according to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, a
not for profit corporation that tracks gun violence. The reason for the shootings can happen for
numerous reasons such as terror or criminal acts. Regardless, this is happening because these
delinquents have an easy access to assault weapons. Consequently, assault weapons should be
banned and made illegal in the United States, unless used by governmental armed forces. Assault
weapons are dangerous, impractical, and when not properly operated can misfire and kill innocent
bystanders.
Why the issue is a problem?
Assault weapons are a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, assault weapons cannot be used during the sport of hunting since they fire automatic rounds
and are extremely loud. In that case, the reasoning for owning an assault when is not valid.
Why the problem continues to exist?
When the second amendment was written, in 1791, assault weapons did not exist. Further, there
was never intended to include assault weapons in such amendment. It was written solely for people
to be able to use weapons for self protection. In fact, the first assault rifle made was the StG 44 in
1944, during World War II, strictly for military use. Nowadays, many states in the US permit
citizens to purchase many handguns and assault weapons to their liking, without much supervision.
Because of that, the United States has more guns than any other country in the world. There are an
estimated 270 million to 310 million firearms in circulation in the United States. With the American
population at 319 million, that breaks down to nearly one firearm for every American.
Additionally, gun lobbyists are very strong in the political area, influencing lawmakers in believing
that assault weapons can actually benefit the public, where in fact they do not. These gun lobbyists
give the politicians large amounts of money, causing them to vote in their favor on certain topics
related to gun legislation. The phenomenon has been addressed many times but anti gun activists,
yet not action has been taken towards changing the corruption

Political Feminism And Marx s Theory Versus Liberalism
What role does liberalism play in socio legal theory? How do the theories you ve chosen address
law s liberalism?
Natural law, Legal Feminism and Marx s theory versus Liberalism.
What role does liberalism play in socio legal theory?
Liberalism is a theory where the rule of law is based on principles of equality and freedom. The
first principles for this theory came from the classical liberalism while the latter principles known
are more obvious in social liberalism. The first liberals embraced a wide range of practices
depending on their point of views of these philosophies, but in general, they supported ideas and
behaviors such as freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, civil rights, secular governments
and democratic societies. Of course this is very easy to understand and explain nowadays, after
so many authors have struggled to defined what liberalism really is and seeks. Using theories of
Natural law, Legal Feminism and Marx s theory versus Liberalism, this paper will analyze the
implication of rights for each theory and how they can be used in a negative and/or positive way
within the socio legal framework.
Indeed, for many years, philosophers have sought to encounter a definition to liberalism, though
their attempts have revolved around abstract and philosophical arguments to come to a neutral
definition, which accordingly to Suda (2000, p. 140) can be:
Liberalism is above all a system of thought which puts at the center of its preoccupations

Causation of Female Gang Involvement Essay
Many years of research have gone into studying why youth turns to gang involvement. A sector of
this population has only recently been a focus of any study at all and that is the female. From the
authors De La Rue, Espelage research they estimate that female gang membership is anywhere
from 10 to 35% of the total gangpopulation (De La Rue, Espelage 2014 pg. 1). There are many
pieces that drive females to join the gang lifestyle. There are three major causes that drive females
to gang involvement; family influences, relationship drives, and prior victimization. Being born
into the gang life proves that nature verses nurture and the family has an impact on what an
individual will become. Many things run in families from illnesses,... Show more content on

2009. Pg. 278). This shows growing up in a gang the child will associate basically a blood bond
between themselves and their gang because of how much of their family is involved. Risk
factors that deal with a females family is that it can leave her in a vulnerable state because the
men around them take advantage of the females at weaker states. Many of the females who are
in gangs have been the victims of many levels of abuse throughout their life and they believe if
they turn to gangs for additional support. Conflict within families drives females into the grasps
of gangs because the female is looking for a group to protect and provide support for them. From
the authors De La Rue, Espelage: Research specific to female gang members has shown that
family risk factors, including poor parental supervision, and high levels of family conflict, have
been linked to an increased risk of gang involvement... (De La Rue, Espelage 2014 pg.3). This
quote explains how family conflict can lead into a female being at a higher risk of joining a gang.
Conflict with the family can lead a female to want to leave their parents households to be able to
have independence from an abuse or rules. A point from the author Fleisher proves that, Once
independent of her family, a youth needs her peer network more than ever. Depending on network
dynamics, youth can

Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures
Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more
Western cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the
people as overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and
Cleopatra. This play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away
from claustrophobic city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play
from Europe to Egypt, more specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While
other locations are used in the play, the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there.
Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the
race of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the
same time. There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of
Europe, and these mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of
Cleopatra and the way she actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the
Egyptian culture in the minds of the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually
depicted in the play, but there is a clear influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in
Shakespeare s work. Despite this influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by
being more Roman than Mark Antony.
The Romans put a strong emphasis on

The Protest Of The Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin...
When you think of protests what do you think of? Most of the protests that people see on
television are a group of people marching in the streets. These protests can either be peaceful or
harmful. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a different approach. His protest
was not in the streets, it was on the football field. He kneels during the national anthem before
games. Everyone has their own thoughts on his protest, some agree, some do not agree with his
protest. Colin Kaepernick s form of protest is a very ineffective way of protest while disrespecting
the people that represent and angering many. On August 14th, 2016 was the first time San

Also, not standing for the national anthem is a legal form of peaceful protest, which is a First
Amendment right. And even though President Obama disagreed with Kaepernick s actions he
did say that Colin was exercising his constitutional right to make a statement. I think there s a
long history of sports figures doing so (ProCon.org) Refusing to stand for the national anthem is
disrespecting the flag and every member of the armed forces. Celebrities and others have all
chimed in and gave their opinion on Colin s protest. One person to chime in and has a lot
patriotism in her family history is Carole Ishlam, she is one of the great great great
granddaughters of Francis Scott Key, the writer of the national anthem. It just blows my mind that
somebody like Kaepernick would do what he does to dishonor the flag of this country and the
national anthem Ishlam said in an interview. She continued, we have young men and women
overseas fighting for this country, people that have died for this country (ProCon.org) Even
supporters of Kaepernick s message disagree with his actions. One of these supporters is New
Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who said, It s an oxymoron that you re sitting down,
disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out (ProCon.org) Not only did
celebrities talk about it, people who are fighting in the war and are representing the flag have put

A. The Westward Movement
1. Americans even though there were many hardships, diseases, and general difficulties continued
to migrate. This movement westward was often permanent
2. Westerners and pioneers tend to be more independent, stubborn, uneducated, and ambitious. This
was likely due to the lack of government and helping hands they had
3. This trip and landscape caused many of America s popular literature pieces to come of age.
Namely James Fenimore Cooper s Natty Bumppo and Herman Melville s Captain Ahab

It doubled every 25 years in the 1800 s
2. At this period (1860) there were 33 states and America was the fourth most populous country in
the world.
3. By this time there were 43 cities that had over more than 20,000 people. About 300 cities had
5,000 people or above.
4. There were by products however to this. There was poor sanitation, poor water, bad lighting, rats,
etc.
5. This increase came from a birth rate increase, but also immigration into the United States. The
Irish and the Germans accounted for most of the immigration.
6. They saw the American availability of land, religious freedom, lack of war, more food, and
mainly for a better life than the one in Europe.
7. Europe also was having a problem with population. The Old World population tended to double
and there was a surplus of people. This surplus was a forebringer for the mass displacement of
people. They were displaced before they had moved to America
D. The Emerald Isle Moves West

mass migration to America had been swung in motion.

Stereotypes And Film Stereotypes
Stereotypes and Films This week, in Chapter 5 The Perceptual Context, we covered stereotypes.
Stereotypes typically refer to membership in social categories such as sex, race, age, or
profession, that are believed to be associated with certain traits and behaviors, as noted by
Neuliep (2015). Stereotypes can often stem from an individual s own perception and form one s
cultural upbringing. The film I am covering, as it relates to stereotypes is Think Like a Man.
Think Like a Man is about four women who are at their wits end with dead road relationships.
When the women discover Steve Harvey s book, Think Like a Man, they began turning their
relationships around. It becomes short lived when the guys figure out they have been betrayed by the

Today, white expectation that African Americans will not be able to make it on their own is a racist
message, a self fulfilling prophecy which suggests that the latter lack the cultural and ethical
requisites (the work ethic, commitment, integrity, etc.) likely to help them climb the
socioeconomic pyramid. The stereotype displayed in this scene is that African Americans think all
Caucasians has excellent credit. The black guys assumed that the white guy s black girlfriend is
with him, because of his great credit status and financial privileges and the one of the white guys
seemingly agreed. I think this originated from the history of most Caucasians had great finances
and wealth, which in turn gave them the ability to buy more and pay for more things. I believe
that the assumption begun from poor African Americans, as many saw Caucasians as privileged
many years ago. I think today this stereotype is wrong, I believe all race has good and bad credit
ratings. The fact that this is or was a stereotype of Caucasians this confirms that stereotyping is
cultural. Indeed, cultural approach to stereotyping emphasizes that stereotypes are learned,
maintained, and potentially changed through the language and communication a culture as stated
by MaCrae et al., (1996).

Essay on the Social Process Theories
The Social Process Theory
The social process theory suggests that criminals are raised in an environment that forms them to
make unlawful decisions. People are influenced by what they are taught and their surroundings
such as where they were raised, their guardians, and people they associated with. Individuals
actions and thought process is going to be based off of what their first instinct is and their first
instinct is going to be what they know best. For example, if a boy is raised in a home where their
family shows their anger by reacting physically, then that child will be more likely the one that is
getting in fights at school than the child who grew up in a home where fighting was never present.

If someone gets involved with bad people for an extended period of time and is with them quite
frequently, anything that group does starts to eventually seem okay. A person mainly
associating with people that are constantly committing illegal acts as a way of everyday life will
ultimately absorb the same mind set. According to Sutherland s theory, individuals become law
violators when they are in contact with persons, groups, or events that produce an excess of
definitions favorable toward criminality and are isolated from counteraction forces (Siegal,
1992, p.227). Other criminal acts are due to how much will power and individual has to obey the
law which is known as the Social control theory. Social theorists claim that a person s actions and
feelings of strong emotions are influenced by internal and external forces. People who do not have
well valued morals and lack self control are more likely to commit a crime. Individuals that are
poor, do not have a good job, and or do not have a close and respectable support system of friends
and family, do not have much to lose. Everyone needs to obtain some sort of social tie or bond in
their life otherwise the person has no boundaries for themselves. Travis Hirschi states, Lawbreaking
is often the most immediate source of gratification or conflict resolution, and no special motivation
is required to explain such behavior (Hirschi, 1969). If a person has nothing else going

Film Analysis Of The Film Blue Velvet
The film Blue Velvet was written and directed by David Lynch in 1986. This movie was inspired
by Bobby Vinton s cover of the song Blue Velvet that was released in 1963. In the film, David
Lynch showed stylization through the opening and closing montages, as well as the ear of
Denmark. Another stylized moment seen within this filmis through the odd connection between
Booth and Lincoln. Blue Velvet is a cult hit dealing with violence, sex, and kidnapping, all being

The ending is almost exactly set up like the opening, with a viewing of a crosswalk, signifying
that things are normal . The happy closure is unconvincing when applying the next day template

McBride said. I disagree with this. The ending of the movie symbolized peace in my opinion.
Despite the disease, Jeffery put inside her and her conflicting facial expression, Dorothy can go
back to living her normal, American dream. The primal scene is focused on Jeffery coming of
age. Many times throughout the movie, sexualized scenes are shown. A specific scene was at the
beginning of the movie when Jeffery s dad begins to have a stroke while watering the grass. As
he falls, the nozzle of the garden hose is right where his crotch is. According to Professor
McBride, this is necessary for the dog to continuously pound on him as it instinctively barks at and
bites the streaming water. This scene and set up shows how animalistic these attacks are. During
this scene, a young child sees this animalistic outbreak, which relates back to a Freudian
assumption. Since this film has the Freudian sensation right at the beginning, it makes it obvious
that this film will be an erotic one. Something else that was important in the primal scene was

The Navy Is A Great Career Opportunity
The Navy, a branch of the U.S. military, is the elite force that fights on water, land and in the

Patriotism or Cosmopolitanism Essay
Humankind would be a better place if we were all just citizens of the world. In Martha Nussbaum s
Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism she argues whether children should be taught in education to be
patriotic or cosmopolitan. Nussbaum s definition of cosmopolitanism is a person whose primary
allegiance is to the community of human beings in the entire world. Nussbaum begins her argument
by raising questions about education and how students ought to be taught that hunger in third world
countries are problems of global problems and not the countries problem. She says We should

education and the concentric circle theory be taught? Should children learned from the outer edge
moving inward? Or the inner edge going out? She believes that both patriotism and
cosmopolitanism are important and should have an effect on every persons life. If one does not
investigate their own culture how will they be open minded to another? She states that we must
learn about the uniqueness of other cultures and learn from part to whole about our entire society.
(p 39) But is this what is happening? No, not at all. America used to be the center for
cosmopolitanism. This was the country of immigrants coming together and forming as one but
recently it seems otherwise Nussbaum says Our nation is appallingly ignorant of most of the rest
of the world. I think that this means that it is also, in many crucial ways, ignorant to itself. This

Rip Van Winkle Analysis
Washington Irving, author of the short story Rip Van Winkle, writes, In a word, Rip [Van
Winkle] was ready to attend to anybody s business but his own; but as to doing family duty, and
keeping his farm in order, he found it impossible (10). Rip Van Winkle is the protagonist in this
short story, narrated by Diedrich Knickerbocker, which first appeared in 1819 in Irving s
collection of stories, The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent (2). Irving sets the story in a small
Dutch colonial village near the Kaatskill Mountains and the Hudson River pre Revolutionary War
under King George III of England (5, 26 28). Van Winkle lives with his wife, Dame Van Winkle,
and his son and daughter, Rip Van Winkle

extremely henpecking wife; however, Van Winkle is very careless when it comes to caring for
his family and farm, which leads to his wife s nagging. Van Winkle eventually leaves home and
meets strangers in the woods, with whom he drinks liquor with; consequently, he ends up falling
asleep for what he will ultimately learn was twenty years. At this point, the setting changes to an
independent United States city post Revolutionary War under a new flag and a new leader,
President George Washington (Irving 7 24). A negative person is someone who has a multitude of

Pathos In The Way We Get By Aron Gaudilly
In the film The Way We Get By Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly use many rhetorical strategies to
appeal to their audience. Their most used and affective appeal is Pathos. Pathos is an appeal to the
audience s emotions. The filmmakers us the other rhetorical strategies Logos and Ethos but not as
effectively as Pathos.
One of the many uses of Pathos is in the opening scene is when Bill is greeting the soldiers
returning from Afghanistan. The filmmakers did this by using a close up of Bills face while he
was greeting troops, and by following this with a point of view of the soldiers from what appears
to be Bill s perspective. The use of Pathos is an emotional appeal to the audience, by showing Bill
s face the audience sees his emotion which causes the audience to feel the emotion as well.
The Filmmakers used a pattern of medium shots followed by closeups at eye level. They then
used a cut and a still shot to set the location for the next scene. One of the best examples of this is
combined with an appeal to Pathos. Gaudet and Pullapilly start the scene with a still shot of the

Marker Dna Investigation
To begin the lab, marker DNA, crime scene DNA, and suspect DNA was collected for analysis.
The goal for the experiment was to distinguish the perpetrator of the crime through the
observation of the DNA in each suspect. In order to do this, each collection of the certain DNA
was initially stained in order for it to be visible and separated into smaller fragments with
restriction enzymes. Gel electrophoresis was used to separate the DNAmolecules based on size. To
do this, a micropipette and agarose gel were utilized. The micropipette collected 10 microliters of
each DNA at a time and was meticulously placed inside a well of the porous gel. After one specific
DNA was used, it was ensured that the DNA from that collection did not contaminate the other
through the use of the micropipette. Once the marker DNA, crime... Show more content on

The marker DNA contained DNA fragments whose base pairs and size were previously known.
Thus, when it is separated through gel electrophoresis, the strands visible can be compared to
the other DNA strands and the size of the adjacent strands can be estimated. A semi log graph
was utilized to determine the unknown DNA fragment sizes. The distances migrated, and the
DNA fragment size of the marker DNA was first plotted. Then, a line of best fit was drawn for
reference. The distance the DNA fragments of crime scene DNA, suspect one s DNA, and
suspect two s DNA had traveled through the agarose gel was calculated. Once those values were
known, the points along the line of best fit that were intersected by the x axis values of the
distance traveled by the DNA fragments were the estimated sizes of the separated DNA
fragments. Once the sizes were discovered, the data was observed in order to exonerate and
implicate a suspect. After observation, suspect one was exonerated as suspect two s DNA
fragments closely resembled and matched up with those in the crime scene

Cartons Short Story
There were two choices: mop the kitchen, or dump out two thousand cartons of spoiled
macadamia nut milk. Sadly we didn t get the first choice. The boys decided to mop the kitchen,
which they probably didn t know how to do. We got to work, two girls opening boxes, two more
opening cartons, and another girl and myself were emptying the cartons into the sink. It wasn t
really that bad, only a faint smell of something bad, I thought we got the easy job. That is until
we kept working. Unloading box after box the smell grew stronger. It smelled worse than a
barnyard by the time we reached the bottom rack. We stopped for a minute to clean up, the
cartons were all broken and the garbage bags were leaking milk. Our shoes were dirty and soaked

the tenth. My body was shaking and I feared I might pass out from the awful smell, but I
continued, I only had two more cartons. They were horrible. The bottoms were all green and
flimsy, dripping milk all over the ground as I rushed them to the sink. The job was done, until I
turned around and saw the mess we left. I hauled the giant trash bags over my shoulder and
threw them up into the old dumpster in the back of the building. By the time I was coming back
in all the girls in my group had finished their break and came back in to help, but I was all done. I
mopped up the ground and the room lightened. Everyone seemed pretty happy that they didn t

Research Paper: Intel, Monopolies, and Corruption
Throughout the last 50 or so years, tech companies have risen and fall, gaining fame and power,
and marking their names in history book for achieving momentous tasks, often in which can still be
seen today. Intel is not an exception to this trend; in fact, the mega corporation is a prime example
of what American tech giants look like: Intel has their hand in essentially every market dealing with
computer components, from memory and memory controllers, to accelerators, to their main
attraction, Central Processing Units, or CPU s, for Desktops, Laptops, and Servers. Not only does
Intel have vast reach in the computer component market, but they have complete control of not only
their production process, being for the most part self contained. From mining necessary resources,
to shipping out their complete products from factories to their recipients, whether that be a store or
an OEM. Intel is truly one of the most successful, if not the most successful Tech giant involved
with Computer hardware. However, they only got to this place through nefarious actions, such as
breaking contracts, playing the courts to their advantage, throwing their weight around, regardless
of the legality of it, to meet their bottom lines. Considering that Intel is at such a high position, and
has pretty much always existed at a fairly high position in the market, why? This paper will set out

Asian-American Stereotypes Essay
What is this chink doing here? Does he even know anything about football? Go back to studying!
After hearing that, I thought, First off, I am not Chinese, and why yes, I do know a little
something something about football. These remarks were some of the things that I had to deal
with when playing football during my first year of high school. These discriminatory statements
towards the few Asians and me on the team were things we heard daily from other teammates and
students. While these stereotypes of Asians only being good for studying and playing badminton or
volleyball was prevalent in my school, that didn t stop me from trying to be the best football player
on the team and disproving the typical Asian student at my high school. As... Show more content on

In one instance, King presents a story about how Jeremy Lin was stereotyped when he was
attending a local basketball tournament. A person working for the tournament basically told Lin
off by saying, Sorry, sir, there s no volleyball here tonight. Just basketball (King Pg.2). Even
though he was in San Francisco, a very diverse city with multitudes of Asians, Lin was still stuck
with the typical Asian stereotypes of not playing sports. While Lin does fit into the average Asian
stereotype of being very studious and work oriented with his Harvard Degree, he is also able to
break that stereotype by dominating teams in the sport that lacks Asian superstars. While
professional athletes of color are not discriminated against to the point of wanting to quit the sport
nowadays, it was very prevalent back in the early to mid 20th century. Even though this is a good
thing, Jeremy Lin still has to face certain prejudices that may not be physical, but rather mental and
psychological. In that same article by Jamilah King, he quotes Dean Adachi, an historian and avid
Asian American studies lecturer, saying, ...we re far beyond the blatant discrimination that stopped
players such as Jackie Robinson...but there still is a similar psychological barrier that Lin is

The Buggy In The Capote Short Summary
4. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the
old woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but,
due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this
description, I can understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time
illness, but throughout the story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at
all. She has a passion for adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing
her frail condition.
5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably
unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations
apart, they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady
exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no
birds singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and
fetch our buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman
enjoys sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys
the adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have
the same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship.
6. As the short story came to an end, Buddy s best friend died of old age after their last Christmas
together, but their friendship did not die along with her because it is everlasting. For their final
Christmas together, they gave each other handmade kites to show their appreciation for each
other. After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a
school campus on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. As if I expected
to see, rather like hearts, a lost pair of kites hurrying toward heaven (Capote 11). The kites are
more than just kites to Buddy. They are a symbol of their timeless friendship and harmony they
will always have, physically alive or not. He will never forget her, and she will reign in his

Comprehensive Sexual Education is More Effective than Abstinence Only Sexual Education A
mutually faithful monogamous relationship in the context of marriage is the expected standard of
human sexual activity. Different people will disagree about the veracity of this statement, but we
know that it does not reflect the experiences of the majority of young people (Collins 1). Sexual
education is a mandatory part of every grade school curriculum and is funded by the federal
government. The content of sexuality education curricula in America varies widely by region, by
school district, and sometimes, by classroom (Collins 1). I believe that because of this fact that it

The classes proved information about contraceptives, STDs and HIV prevention. It also is age
appropriate and scientifically explained. Collins says it well that by denying teens the full range of
information regarding human sexuality, abstinence only education fails to provide young people

by the Kasier Family Foundation said that they knew more and felt better prepared to handle
different situations. Abstinence only education just chooses to avoid it and does not take into
account students who decide a different path. Abstinence only education supports say that by
teaching the abstinence plus education that they are sending mixed messages towards students.
Current advocates for comprehensive education cite that providing teens with contraceptive

that based off of the information he had derived from both approaches evidence gives strong

Friendship In Friendship
MYTH AND FRIENDSHIP: LIVING IN THE ALREADY BUT NOT YET
C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien s writings are bursting with stories of friendships that warm our
hearts as readers and offer us an invitation into the narrative. Friendship played an important role
in Lewis and Tolkien s works, and can be seen as an invitation to participate in their stories. I
would like to propose in this paper that friendship in myth is a vision of the already, but not yet age
that we live in and that Lewis and Tolkien s stories can impact how we live out our own friendships.
We live in a time of the already, but not yet, and by this, I mean that we live in a time and space
between Christ s first coming and His second coming. As believer s in Christ, we have the Holy
Spirit and we live under grace, no longer under law. We have been freed from the slavery of sin
and are no longer under its dominion. However, in this age, while we see many promises come
through Christ and the Holy Spirit, we still feel and experience the affects of sin and death still
reigns. The days are evil and we see the evidence of evil pervasively in our lives. Through Christ
s first coming, we are now partakers in the divine nature , we share in Christ s nature, but this is
not our experience right now on earth. While we share the divine nature in our knowledge and
understanding to an extent, we do not share in the divine nature in experience or feeling yet. But
we have hope because one day the already will be in

The Character Of Shakespeare s Macbeth Or A Tragic Hero
In the Shakespearean play of Macbeth, Macbeth can be considered a tragic hero or a villain
depending on the extent. But, to what extent is he is a tragic hero or a villain? From act to act, the
reader can see Macbeth s character develop and the changes in the way other perceive him. In the
way Shakespeare writes, he makes Macbeths character progressive, meaning that through the play
his redeeming qualities appear to diminish. Macbeth, although his actions are strengthened by
Lady Macbeth and the witches, his own intentions ultimately lead to his defeat and can lead him
to be characterized as either a villain or a tragic hero. Macbeth has several redeeming qualities, or
potentially heroic qualities, that can classify him as a tragic hero, but he also has some qualities
that could characterize his as a villain.
A tragic hero, according to Aristotle s definition, must be a literary character who makes a
judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction . Macbeth displays the
characteristics of a tragic hero because inevitable that he is fully responsible for his own actions.
He also realizes that what he is planning to commit, Duncan s murder, is a crime and realizes this
with the other murders as well. Macbeth is destined for downfall, suffering and defeat from the
beginning of the play, after he begins to contemplate the witches prophecies. Finally, Macbeth,
like a tragic hero has heroic or potentially heroic qualities, such as ambition, bravery, kindness and
imaginativness. Macbeth is ambitious because even though the witches give opportunity for
temptation brought up through their words, he allows his ambitious thoughts to have full
control. He demonstrates bravery because he commented on for being brave when fighting
against Macdonwald and Sweno in the first act. Lady Macbeth mentions Macbeth s feature of
kindness when she says [y]et I do fear thy nature/[i]t is too full o the milk of human kindness
(1.5.4) . Imaginativeness is generally a good quality to have but in Macbeth s case it could be one
of the causes of his down such as when he sees the ghost of Banquo and sees the blood stained
dagger.
A villain, according to Merriam Webster s English dictionary, is one blamed for a

Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates Essay
Feminists vs. Playboy Playmates
Naked women have been in the front of feminist s minds for several decades. Especially when they
are pictured in soft pornography magazine Playboy. Feminists for years have been yelling that
Playboy is harmful to both men and women. Males around the country have countered that there is
nothing wrong with their Playboy, it is merely a harmless vice. The problem I see with Playboy is
not that it demeans women or subjugates them, and its not that it leads to violence. The main
problem is that it fosters unrealistic images and expectation in men s minds about women. But
since there is little we can do about it now, we merely need to take that first step and recognize

I interviewed one person on each side of this issue, to get the token opinion that is popular on
their side of the issue. On this side is Ursula, an extremely quotable quasi feminist who makes a
strong case for her side.[1] Ursula sums up the feminist argument by saying, Guys see the idealized
sex goddess, how can women compete? First and foremost feminists argue that the idea of a naked
woman in a magazine is degrading to that woman in particular and to women as a whole; Playboy
and men s magazines in general make women out to be sex objects (Burstyn, 42). Playboy
objectifies women, leaving out the human side (Burstyn, 43). Feminists also say that soft
pornography leads to hard pornography which can then lead to violent crimes against women. Rick
Heibert in his article A hard line against soft porn says that psychologists have found that viewing
soft pornography inevitably leads to harder material (par 4). Others would take this a step further
and contend that the viewing of violent pornography then leads to an increased likelihood of
committing a violent sexual crime (Cramer 202). These articles would present statistical research
backing themselves up, more likely than not the Meese Commission will make it in to any feminist
critique.
Feminists present a third argument saying that magazines such as Playboy lead to depression or
anorexia in women, especially amongst impressionable young women (Chancer, 85). There is little
argument against teenagers

An Essay on Social Contract Theory
SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY Social contract theory (or contractarianism) is a concept used in
philosophy, political science and sociology to denote an implicit agreement within a state
regarding the rights and responsibilities of the state and its citizens, or more generally a similar
concord between a group and its members, or between individuals. All members within a society
are assumed to agree to the terms of the social contract by their choice to stay within the society
without violating the contract; such violation would signify a problematic attempt to return to the
state of nature. It has been often noted, indeed, that social contract theories relied on a specific
anthropological conception of man as either good or evil . Thomas... Show more content on

Jean Jacques Rousseau Du Contrat social (1762) Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778), in his
influential 1762 treatise The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right, outlined a
different version of contract theory, based on the conception of popular sovereignty, defined as
indivisible and inalienable this last trait explaining Rousseau s aversion for representative
democracy and his advocacy of direct democracy. Rousseau s theory has many similarities with
the individualist Lockean liberal tradition, but also departs from it on many significant points.
For example, his theory of popular sovereignty includes a conception of a general will , which is
more than the simple sum of individual wills: it is thus collectivist or holistic, rather than
individualist. As an individual, Rousseau argues, the subject can be egoist and decide that his
personal interest should override the collective interest. However, as part of a collective body,
the individual subject puts aside his egoism to create a general will , which is popular
sovereignty itself. Popular sovereignty thus decides only what is good for society as a whole:
The heart of the idea of the social contract may be stated simply: Each of us places his person and
authority under the supreme direction of the general will, and the group receives each individual as
an indivisible part of the whole... Hence, Rousseau s famous sentence: We shall force them

Research design
This refers to the plan, structure and format of any scientific or statistical work. It serves the
purpose of guiding the researcher in his study and will set out the framework to be used.
Research design will basically cover the data collection process, tools of collecting such data,
how the tools will be used to collect data and how to analyze the collected data into a useful form
(Gosling, 2014). A problem will be raised by researcher in which he will carry out his course study
to draw an answer throughcollecting data (Meyer, et al, 2012).
The research process is as follows: Statement of problem is identified( Research problem); Making
a plan how to start the actual research is determined; Determining research type to use and Stating
methods to use. The research problem will be identified as follows:
1.Obtaining a problem you are already aware of. You may choose from social environment and any
other facts that researcher knows.

Tips For Stretching It Budgets
Tips for Stretching IT Budgets
In today s multifaceted business environment, technological needs are constantly changing. In fact,
now days IT has became a critical initiative for success. With the widespread use of IT,
organizations face the challenge of increasing competition, expanding markets, and rising customer
expectations. This increases the pressure on organizations to implement various financial budgeting
strategies that could potentially lower the cost. Therefore, a concept that recently has gain
momentum, and is becoming a popular practice in most organizations is IT budgeting. According to

In other words, which means to expand the use of the same software towards different
functionalities, for instance utilizing the Numara FoorPrints software from IT services to HR
department (Baker, 2009).
For an effective IT budgeting, IT leaders need to execute viable decision making ideas that can
result into monetary savings in the long run (Heier et al., 2008). Similarly, repurposing of the
software positively effects the organization, by saving an amount that would have been spent on a
new software purchase, and creating some extra budget that could be invested towards other
strategic investments or initiatives (Heier et al., 2008). In terms of the operations cost, even
though the repurpose might slightly increase its maintenance cost if the software has already been
used for many years, but still by evaluating the whole operational budget for two different
functions it still is a cost effective strategy (Heier et al., 2008). Additionally, it serves as a valuable
asset to the organization, in terms of saving both time and money of their IT staff, as they no longer
are learning totally new software.
On the downside, there might be certain hidden operational costs involved that might require more
maintenance, for instance the software can have limited memory or processing capacity, so in such
a case it might actually cost more to repurposing the same software (Heier et al., 2008).

Analysis Of The Ghost On The B-Side By Jeff Noon
Contemporary literature sought to demolish the barrier of the traditional forms of reading writing.
In doing so, this revolution impacted the way people communicated with one another. Many social
groups veered onto a rebellious path, creating the punk rock age, discovering new forms of
communication. Through the ability of remixing, the digital world motivated this new mode of
reading writing. In his piece The Ghost on the B side , Jeff Noon demonstrates the potential of
remixing. Marker Amerika expands on this theme in remixthebook (potentialism). In his piece

Power Corruption in Heart of Darkness Essay
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, the author fiercely challenges imperialism. Through this
challenge, he demonstrates the internal battles of good and evil. In his work, he also displays
issues of personal morals and alienation. At the time the novella was written, Europe had
established territories across the map. It holds true that power corrupts and absolute power
corrupts absolutely, especially when said power reigns over the fate of humans in society. Conrad
illustrates the corruption of power through the books motif of darkness and the renegade of Kurtz.

The standard in the Victorian era was the men were far away, while the women were morally
supportive, but oblivious to the reality of the man s work, although they economically benefitted
from it. This proves the way power corrupts because Kurtz abused the opportunities given after
falling from the edge of moral standards, even after his Intended attempts to show him the way. In
1902, when Conrad wrote the book, it was common to base culture off of superiority, therefore it
was seen that Kurtz was in the Congo for the redemption of natives. In the text, Joseph Conrad
gives much respect to the native tribes, Mr. Kurtz, however, has none. Exterminate all brutes!
(Conrad 50) he says, claiming that if he cannot change the natives, they should be thrown out. He,
and many people like him, introduced new cultures to societies that did not want it. The
corruption of the spirituality found in some cultures is thus caused by the hunger for power from
interference from separate societies. Power and happiness go hand in hand. When one abuses
power it reveal their limitations and perhaps inability to maintain power to help the greater good.
One of these may be the differences in laws for those in a position in power and those who are
not, and abuse occurs through moral differences in such society. Everything belonged to him but

Syrian Kurds And The Civil War
In the midst of the chaos of the on going Syrian civil war, the nation of Syrian Kurds has slowly
coalesced and formed its own self proclaimed sovereign country, complete with its own constitution
and form of government. Though still in its early days, it has already collaborated with
international powers to fight off terrorist groups, and remained a strong hold in the region of
northern Syria. This conflict will continue to evolve and have major implications for the future of
Syrian Kurds, and other groups in the region with regard to questions of resource control and
Kurdish sovereignty.
This is a conflict that requires national attention and concern because Syrian Kurds are the largest
ethnic group in the world that does not have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, this will be an area of further conflict due to the resources this region holds. When the
fighting in Syria subsides, the Kurds in this region stand to lose their self proclaimed autonomy
due to outside influence and interest in these scarce resources. This paper examines the challenges
Rojava will face in the coming years, and the possible necessary steps needed for the Kurds to
claim stability in a region surrounded by opposition.
This paper asks: how has elite manipulation for political, economic, and territorial gains produced
unfavorable circumstances for the Syrian Kurdish population? And how will this factor into
Kurdish claim of sovereignty in Rojava, given the region is rich with scarce natural resources?
Therefore, the main point this paper will argue is that elite manipulation aided in creating the
Kurdish ethnic conflict within Syria in the decades leading up to the Syrian civil war, along with
how this elite manipulation holds the potential to cause further problems for Kurds when it comes
to the issue of autonomy and self governance in the region they have claimed as their own. In other
words, the Kurdish ethnic conflict within Syria will create further problems for the notions of
proclaimed Kurdish

The Standard American Diet Plan Essay
Introduction The Standard American Diet (SAD) is a growing concern due to its negative
effect on Americans weight status. In The Okinawa Diet Plan: Get Leaner, Live Longer, and
Never Feel Hungry Again, the Okinawa diet is suggested to be a large contributor to the low
rates of obesity among centenarians living in Okinawa, Japan. In overweight adults, how does
following the diet principles of the elderly people of Okinawa, Japan affect weight loss
compared to following the Standard American Diet? Principles of The Okinawa Diet Plan
Consuming low calorie dense (CD) foods is the basis of the Okinawa diet. Research supports the
authors claim that by eating foods low in CD, energy intake is lowered, thus promoting weight
loss. Water rich foods are closely related to the CD principle, and its potential to decrease body
weight is also supported by research. Whole grains, which are proposed to be lower in CD than
refined grains, are said to aid in weight loss. This principle is positively supported by research.
Information on the Glycemic Index (GI) is contradicted in different parts of the book. Although
research supports the GI and weight loss, certain factors should be taken into account. Conclusion
The Okinawa diet has the potential to be a sustainable weight loss diet. Further research on certain
principles need to be conducted. Introduction The Western diet commonly consumed in the United
States, also known as the Standard American Diet (SAD), includes the excess

Alice In Wonderland Comparison
I have decided to choose the book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. As a graded
version, I ve had the book from Oxford University Press, stage 2 which is 700 words. The CD
version was also available in the graded book and was retold by Jennifer Bassett. The first
difference between the two versions was the number of chapters, the original had 12 chapters
whereas the graded one only 6.
After the very first chapter of the graded version, I did not find anything important missing. The
language was, of course, more simple, some of the sentences were left out, but everything important
was kept. In the second chapter, there was no conversation between Alice swimming in the pool of
tears and the animals, only two sentences were retained. The conversation continued to the third
chapter. After getting to a shore from the pool, Alice was spending time with the mouse, a duck, a
lory and an eaglet. The mouse was talking about William the Conqueror, Alice was still interrupting
her, then they were reciting a poem. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the conversation with the pigeon who denounced Alice being a serpent or egg thief , Alice
went straight to the house of the Duchess. The characters of Fish Footman and Frog Footman were
also omitted here. Surprisingly, in both books, there was the same sentence about Alice having seen
a cat without a grin, but never a grin without a cat. After visiting the Duchess and meeting the
Cheshire Cat, Alice goes on to the March Hare s tea party. In this part, the well known riddle Why
is a raven like a writing desk? changed into Why is a bird like a desk? . Personally, I can see no
point in changing the sentence and I think it was not necessary. Readers of the graded version
could get confused about the never ending tea party. In the original, the Hatter is mentioning the
time as Him and tells a story about why it s always six

Symphony No. 9 Summary
The concert I watched online was Symphony No. 9 From the New World composed by the great
Antonin Dvorak. This performance was done by the New York Philharmonic and launched the
New York Philharmonic s 175th anniversary season. This concert was performed by an orchestra
and was definitely a performance I enjoyed to watch and listen to.
In the beginning of the performance, the orchestra begins with an adagio tempo, using instruments
such as cellos and violins. The tempo is very slow and soothing until it suddenly interrupted by
the sound of trumpets. This is setting a tone that something very dramatic is about to happen.
After the trumpets sound, oboes and flutes begin to play using the same adagio tempo as it was
used in the beginning of the performance. As the flutes and clarinets slowly stop, you can see the
conductor, Alan Gilbert, slowly move his arms apart to instruct the orchestra to get prepared.
Gilbert then swings his arms up and the orchestra switches to an allegro tempo by using crescendo.
Violins, cellos, drums, French horns, tenor trombones and bass trombones are now used to create a
suspenseful tone as if something tragic has just happened. It then changes back to the adagio tempo
using instruments with low pitch and then transfers back to the oboes, flutes and violins. The first
ten minutes of the performance is a wide variation between adagio and allegro and molto allegro
and basically switches tempos between the three which is why I really enjoyed

Power Steer By Michael Pollen Summary
I was really excited to read the article Power Steer by Michael Pollen. I ve seen several of his
books at local book stores, as well as different television shows featuring his work. The purpose
of Michael Pollen s article was to educate himself and others on the process of producing
industrial steak in America, and making a financial profit along the way. He felt that Ignorance
was no longer tenable. In doing so, Michael decided to purchase an 8 month old calf numbered
534 for $598. This totaled $1.60 a day for room and board due to the cattle not being weaned yet.
Throughout Michael s educational journey, he was able to learn about the different problems
associated with animal feeding operations. This includes health problems that cattle could cause to
humans, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was the calving season, which began during the late winter, the spring season, which
includes branding, vaccination, and castration of the calf, and then there is the summer which
the insemination process occurred. During the fall is when weaning occurred and that is when
Michael first met his calf. Michael learned that his calf 534 ate little blue stem, green needle
grass and western grass. Michael also learned the importance of calf s living on the grass instead
of factory farms. Cattle living on farm land had fewer diseases, ate naturally, and had no use for
medications. Cows are useful in helping to prevent trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold as
well as spreading grass seeds by planting them with their hoofs and fertilizing it. The most
important lesson I think is that cows have rumens. The function of a rumen is the ability to
convert grass into protein. Humans don t have the ability to do this as Michael found out. All of
this information was useful in helping Michael learn the life process cattle 534. He was able to
learn about what calf 534 ate, how it lived, and its

The Court Of The Lawyer
This court is now in session! The bailiff s gruff voice thunders across the room, commanding a
respectful silence as the honorable judge takes his seat. The back pews scrape against the floor
noisily as people hurry to claim their seats. The novice lawyer glares back nervously at the
gallery before exchanging a hopeful look with his client, who is just as skittish. A cold sweat
began pouring down the lawyer s neck as he faces down the prosecuting attorney, looking as
confident as she was cold. As they lock eyes, the animosity is so thick a knife could cut through it.
Eventually the trial begins, and both sides throw verbal cannonballs. As the court proceedings

This competitive mentality introduces the startling correlation between mental health and the
legal profession, and how the urge to be the best doesn t always end when the court is adjourned.
Every day, lawyers have to juggle the immense burden of pressure placed on them by their
colleagues, clients, and courtroom dramas; while this rather strenuous job does lend its way to
alcoholism and other means of coping, there are more effective ways of dealing with it, like first
admitting that you have a problem and finding someone who can help you. Alcoholism, a
psychological disorder usually associated with alcohol addiction/abuse in general, is by far the
most prevalent mental health issue in several high pressure careers across the country (Alcohol
Abuse and Dependence, par. 1). Many well respected doctors, politicians, and athletes have
confessed to being tempted by the appropriately titled demon in a bottle at some point in their
careers. In many cases, it can be fought back with self regulation, outside intervention, and in the
worse possible scenario, withdrawal. However, alcoholism factors much differently into the
world of law, and in this case, different can be deadly. Success is held to a different standard for
the lawyer. In order to truly be successful, an attorney must have the drive to give it their all, and
put their heart and soul into every case. It s not just their salary that is

Political Risks Of A Country And Micro Analysis
One of the first steps in managing political risks is to analyze the political environment for risks
to the business. According to Luthans, the analysis of risk can be done with two types of
political risk analysis, Macro and Micro Analysis. Macro Analysis is an analysis of political
ideas and decisions that will impact all businesses in a country and Micro Analysis is an analysis
of governmental regulations and policies that affect a specific sector of on economy or market
such as the auto industry (Luthans, 2015). However, there are other risks that can be more
difficult to analyze such as terrorism especially in today s political unrest. Some major
corporations have spent thousands of dollars on macro and micro analyses just to have a world
event disrupt or completely destroy operations. Tata motorsdealt with political battles as well as a
terrorist event. In a USA Today article titled India s Nano goes on sale Sharon Silke reported
that the Launch of was Six weeks late after political battle over the land where the car was to be

state where gas prices were rising and the world economy was becoming more stable. This would

The Impact Of Emperor Titus On The Roman Empire
Throughout the period of Roman emperors, there were many good emperors who brought wealth
and prosperity, but there were bad emperors who brought terror and poverty. Emperor Titus
Augustus was one of the emperors who brought wealth and prosperity. He had one of the most
popular rules, even though he only ruled for about 3 years. He was, also, nicknamed the darling of
the human race by Suetonius (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica). Although Emperor Titushad
a short rule, he brought wealth and prosperity, thus making his rule have a positive impact on the
Roman Empire.
To begin, Titus was born in 39 A.D. His father, Vespasian
, was a high ranking military official at the
time. Titus early life consisted of serving in his father s legion. After the evil emperor Nero died,
Vespasian was anointed emperor of Rome. Vespasian then gave Titus charge of the Jewish war
and his legion. Titus successfully captured and destroyed Jerusalem in September of A.D. 70. To
commemorate Titus glorious victory, an arch was built, which is now known as the Arch of Titus.
After that victory, Titus was made Praetorian Guard by his father and they became close in ranks,
but Vespasian avoided putting Titus on an equal rank as him. From then until the end of Vespasian
s reign, they worked closely and peacefully. The early life of Titus included serving and
commanding under his father s legions and serving as a Praetorian Guard.
Then, when Vespasian died on June 23rd, 79 A.D. Titus immediately

Why Do We Obey
Iyanatou Niang Professor Alford GVPT241 10/24/14 Obedience and Authority Even before formal
governments were put in place, groups of people would gather under one leader of the pack, whom
they respect and obey even when the commands are questionable. Throughout historic encounters,
we have studied humans and their predisposition to obey order, we know that when placed in a
situation where one must choose between morality or obedience, most gravitate towards obedience
but the question remains why? Why is it that humans are son inclined to obey? Studies from
psychologists such as Milgram think it is because obedience to authority is innate whilst Browning,
believes it has more to do with group pressure. The answer to why humans are obedient... Show

In his belief, at times when there are no ruling government they are that condition which is
called warre; and such a warre as is of every man against every man (Hobbes, Leviathan, p.62).
He defines the state of nature as a point where there is no injustice because there is no governing
body to create a law, therefore obedience is not necessary. The only way out of this permanent
state of warre is through a social contract in which people give up some of their rights in order to
get some protection from the governing body (the general rule being do unto your neighbors as
you would have them do unto you). Although he does not literally say it, obedience is a strong
underlying factor to the social contract and mutual state of peace. In some ways the state of nature
does help to explain obedience to authority leading to monstrosities because through the social
contract it turned from being each man for himself to each group for themselves. In the case of
obedience one would naturally obey the leader of their group whilst being in a state of warre with

Rust oleum Professional Undercoating is a specialized grade spray on rubber coating used to

corrosion and deadens sound. This product is used on cars, trucks, trailers and other road
vehicles. Rust damage is irreversible and can only be prevented hence the utility for the product
not that it is needed in dry Arizona. Rust oleum has thousands of products that are all marketed
for home and auto projects not limited to fence paint, enamels, primers and rust strippers. The
professional undercoating is one of the more popular products as it is used on cars. I chose this
product because I have no experience with this item or car care. As it is, I pay mechanics and

Undercoating is a do it yourself project that I would not chose to participate in. The product is
unfamiliar to me, as a single female in my mid twenties I have never purchased nor plan to

segments a market fairly specifically. Market segmentations shape the advertisement by picking
demographic, geographic, psychographic and behavioral factors of the individuals they wish to

who have some education but are most likely blue collar or trade workers. The

Fulgencio Batista was president of Cuba from 1940 to 1944. During his time in office he
expanded the educational system, sponsored a huge program of public works, and brought up the
growth of the economy (Britannica). In 1952 he ran for president again but this time put together a
coup because he believed he wouldn t win. The coup overthrew the current president, Carlos Prio
Socarras, and made Batista dictator. As Fulgencio Batistagained more power he became more
corrupt, forgetting his roots, and negatively impacting the poor of Cuba.
Batista was born into a life of poverty on January 16, 1901 (Rutgers). He was the son Belisario
Batista Palermo, a sugar cane cutter and Carmela Zaldivar Gonzalez, a stay at home mom. He
grew up with three younger brothers, Francisco, Hermelindo, and Juan Batista in Banes, a small

  • 2. Ethical Ethics And Corporate Ethics Essay Ethics are principles of behavior based on the ideas of what is good and what is bad. Business ethics, or also known as corporate ethics, is a form of ethics that is used in the business environment. The study of business ethics looks at the decisions that businesses make and whether those decisions taken are right or wrong. Many company executives are unethical, because their number one goal is not to satisfy customers, or clients; Instead their number one goal is to make as much profit as they can no matter what. What this type of companies fail to realize is that there is long run and short run profit maximization. A company can maximize its profits by in the short run by being unethical; however, in the long run, the bad publicity, lawsuits, etc. will make the company suffer plenty in both the public appearance and the monetary aspect. One of the biggest legal scandals of a company being unethical was in 2001, when, Enron, a natural gas pipeline company went from having $65 billions in assets to being bankrupt 24 days after. Enron Corporation was founded in 1985, in Houston, Texas, it was a merger between Houston Natural Gas Co. and InterNorth Inc. Enron reached dramatic heights, it was the seventh largest corporation in America, and named the Most innovative company by Fortune magazine for 6 years straight. Enron innovated the entire natural gas market by adding a natural gas trading segment; making it the world s largest energy trading company. At its peak ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Assault Weapons Policy: At least 84 people have been killed and 119 have been injured so far this year in 86 shooting incidents involving assault style rifles, according to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, a not for profit corporation that tracks gun violence. The reason for the shootings can happen for numerous reasons such as terror or criminal acts. Regardless, this is happening because these delinquents have an easy access to assault weapons. Consequently, assault weapons should be banned and made illegal in the United States, unless used by governmental armed forces. Assault weapons are dangerous, impractical, and when not properly operated can misfire and kill innocent bystanders. Why the issue is a problem? Assault weapons are a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, assault weapons cannot be used during the sport of hunting since they fire automatic rounds and are extremely loud. In that case, the reasoning for owning an assault when is not valid. Why the problem continues to exist? When the second amendment was written, in 1791, assault weapons did not exist. Further, there was never intended to include assault weapons in such amendment. It was written solely for people to be able to use weapons for self protection. In fact, the first assault rifle made was the StG 44 in 1944, during World War II, strictly for military use. Nowadays, many states in the US permit citizens to purchase many handguns and assault weapons to their liking, without much supervision. Because of that, the United States has more guns than any other country in the world. There are an estimated 270 million to 310 million firearms in circulation in the United States. With the American population at 319 million, that breaks down to nearly one firearm for every American. Additionally, gun lobbyists are very strong in the political area, influencing lawmakers in believing that assault weapons can actually benefit the public, where in fact they do not. These gun lobbyists give the politicians large amounts of money, causing them to vote in their favor on certain topics related to gun legislation. The phenomenon has been addressed many times but anti gun activists, yet not action has been taken towards changing the corruption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Political Feminism And Marx s Theory Versus Liberalism What role does liberalism play in socio legal theory? How do the theories you ve chosen address law s liberalism? Natural law, Legal Feminism and Marx s theory versus Liberalism. What role does liberalism play in socio legal theory? Liberalism is a theory where the rule of law is based on principles of equality and freedom. The first principles for this theory came from the classical liberalism while the latter principles known are more obvious in social liberalism. The first liberals embraced a wide range of practices depending on their point of views of these philosophies, but in general, they supported ideas and behaviors such as freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, civil rights, secular governments and democratic societies. Of course this is very easy to understand and explain nowadays, after so many authors have struggled to defined what liberalism really is and seeks. Using theories of Natural law, Legal Feminism and Marx s theory versus Liberalism, this paper will analyze the implication of rights for each theory and how they can be used in a negative and/or positive way within the socio legal framework. Indeed, for many years, philosophers have sought to encounter a definition to liberalism, though their attempts have revolved around abstract and philosophical arguments to come to a neutral definition, which accordingly to Suda (2000, p. 140) can be: Liberalism is above all a system of thought which puts at the center of its preoccupations ... • 5. Causation of Female Gang Involvement Essay Many years of research have gone into studying why youth turns to gang involvement. A sector of this population has only recently been a focus of any study at all and that is the female. From the authors De La Rue, Espelage research they estimate that female gang membership is anywhere from 10 to 35% of the total gangpopulation (De La Rue, Espelage 2014 pg. 1). There are many pieces that drive females to join the gang lifestyle. There are three major causes that drive females to gang involvement; family influences, relationship drives, and prior victimization. Being born into the gang life proves that nature verses nurture and the family has an impact on what an individual will become. Many things run in families from illnesses,... This shows growing up in a gang the child will associate basically a blood bond between themselves and their gang because of how much of their family is involved. Risk factors that deal with a females family is that it can leave her in a vulnerable state because the men around them take advantage of the females at weaker states. Many of the females who are in gangs have been the victims of many levels of abuse throughout their life and they believe if they turn to gangs for additional support. Conflict within families drives females into the grasps of gangs because the female is looking for a group to protect and provide support for them. From the authors De La Rue, Espelage: Research specific to female gang members has shown that family risk factors, including poor parental supervision, and high levels of family conflict, have been linked to an increased risk of gang involvement... (De La Rue, Espelage 2014 pg.3). This quote explains how family conflict can lead into a female being at a higher risk of joining a gang. Conflict with the family can lead a female to want to leave their parents households to be able to have independence from an abuse or rules. A point from the author Fleisher proves that, Once independent of her family, a youth needs her peer network more than ever. Depending on network dynamics, youth can ... • 6. Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more Western cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play, the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there. Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time. There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. Despite this influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by being more Roman than Mark Antony. The Romans put a strong emphasis on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Protest Of The Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin... When you think of protests what do you think of? Most of the protests that people see on television are a group of people marching in the streets. These protests can either be peaceful or harmful. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a different approach. His protest was not in the streets, it was on the football field. He kneels during the national anthem before games. Everyone has their own thoughts on his protest, some agree, some do not agree with his protest. Also, not standing for the national anthem is a legal form of peaceful protest, which is a First Amendment right. And even though President Obama disagreed with Kaepernick s actions he did say that Colin was exercising his constitutional right to make a statement. I think there s a long history of sports figures doing so (ProCon.org) Refusing to stand for the national anthem is disrespecting the flag and every member of the armed forces. Celebrities and others have all chimed in and gave their opinion on Colin s protest. One person to chime in and has a lot patriotism in her family history is Carole Ishlam, she is one of the great great great granddaughters of Francis Scott Key, the writer of the national anthem. It just blows my mind that somebody like Kaepernick would do what he does to dishonor the flag of this country and the national anthem Ishlam said in an interview. She continued, we have young men and women overseas fighting for this country, people that have died for this country (ProCon.org) Even supporters of Kaepernick s message disagree with his actions. One of these supporters is New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who said, It s an oxymoron that you re sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out (ProCon.org) Not only did celebrities talk about it, people who are fighting in the war and are representing the flag have put out their own opinions on Kaepernick s ... • 10. Stereotypes And Film Stereotypes Stereotypes and Films This week, in Chapter 5 The Perceptual Context, we covered stereotypes. Stereotypes typically refer to membership in social categories such as sex, race, age, or profession, that are believed to be associated with certain traits and behaviors, as noted by Neuliep (2015). Stereotypes can often stem from an individual s own perception and form one s cultural upbringing. The film I am covering, as it relates to stereotypes is Think Like a Man. Today, white expectation that African Americans will not be able to make it on their own is a racist message, a self fulfilling prophecy which suggests that the latter lack the cultural and ethical requisites (the work ethic, commitment, integrity, etc.) likely to help them climb the socioeconomic pyramid. The stereotype displayed in this scene is that African Americans think all Caucasians has excellent credit. The black guys assumed that the white guy s black girlfriend is with him, because of his great credit status and financial privileges and the one of the white guys seemingly agreed. I think this originated from the history of most Caucasians had great finances and wealth, which in turn gave them the ability to buy more and pay for more things. I believe that the assumption begun from poor African Americans, as many saw Caucasians as privileged many years ago. I think today this stereotype is wrong, I believe all race has good and bad credit ratings. The fact that this is or was a stereotype of Caucasians this confirms that stereotyping is cultural. Indeed, cultural approach to stereotyping emphasizes that stereotypes are learned, maintained, and potentially changed through the language and communication a culture as stated by MaCrae et al., (1996). People are influenced by what they are taught and their surroundings such as where they were raised, their guardians, and people they associated with. Individuals actions and thought process is going to be based off of what their first instinct is and their first instinct is going to be what they know best. If someone gets involved with bad people for an extended period of time and is with them quite frequently, anything that group does starts to eventually seem okay. A person mainly associating with people that are constantly committing illegal acts as a way of everyday life will ultimately absorb the same mind set. According to Sutherland s theory, individuals become law violators when they are in contact with persons, groups, or events that produce an excess of definitions favorable toward criminality and are isolated from counteraction forces (Siegal, 1992, p.227). Other criminal acts are due to how much will power and individual has to obey the law which is known as the Social control theory. Social theorists claim that a person s actions and feelings of strong emotions are influenced by internal and external forces. People who do not have well valued morals and lack self control are more likely to commit a crime. Individuals that are poor, do not have a good job, and or do not have a close and respectable support system of friends and family, do not have much to lose. Everyone needs to obtain some sort of social tie or bond in their life otherwise the person has no boundaries for themselves. This movie was inspired by Bobby Vinton s cover of the song Blue Velvet that was released in 1963. In the film, David Lynch showed stylization through the opening and closing montages, as well as the ear of Denmark. Another stylized moment seen within this filmis through the odd connection between Booth and Lincoln. Blue Velvet is a cult hit dealing with violence, sex, and kidnapping, all being glorified. The ending of the movie symbolized peace in my opinion. Despite the disease, Jeffery put inside her and her conflicting facial expression, Dorothy can go back to living her normal, American dream. The primal scene is focused on Jeffery coming of age. Many times throughout the movie, sexualized scenes are shown. A specific scene was at the beginning of the movie when Jeffery s dad begins to have a stroke while watering the grass. As he falls, the nozzle of the garden hose is right where his crotch is. According to Professor McBride, this is necessary for the dog to continuously pound on him as it instinctively barks at and bites the streaming water. This scene and set up shows how animalistic these attacks are. During this scene, a young child sees this animalistic outbreak, which relates back to a Freudian assumption. In Martha Nussbaum s Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism she argues whether children should be taught in education to be patriotic or cosmopolitan. Nussbaum s definition of cosmopolitanism is a person whose primary allegiance is to the community of human beings in the entire world. Nussbaum begins her argument by raising questions about education and how students ought to be taught that hunger in third world countries are problems of global problems and not the countries problem. (Barbaro) Sissela Bok s question arose when she asked how should education and the concentric circle theory be taught? Should children learned from the outer edge moving inward? Or the inner edge going out? She believes that both patriotism and cosmopolitanism are important and should have an effect on every persons life. If one does not investigate their own culture how will they be open minded to another? She states that we must learn about the uniqueness of other cultures and learn from part to whole about our entire society. (p 39) But is this what is happening? No, not at all. America used to be the center for cosmopolitanism. This was the country of immigrants coming together and forming as one but recently it seems otherwise Nussbaum says Our nation is appallingly ignorant of most of the rest of the world. Rip Van Winkle Analysis Washington Irving, author of the short story Rip Van Winkle, writes, In a word, Rip [Van Winkle] was ready to attend to anybody s business but his own; but as to doing family duty, and keeping his farm in order, he found it impossible (10). Rip Van Winkle is the protagonist in this short story, narrated by Diedrich Knickerbocker, which first appeared in 1819 in Irving s collection of stories, The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent (2). Irving sets the story in a small Dutch colonial village near the Kaatskill Mountains and the Hudson River pre Revolutionary War under King George III of England (5, 26 28). Their most used and affective appeal is Pathos. Pathos is an appeal to the audience s emotions. The filmmakers us the other rhetorical strategies Logos and Ethos but not as effectively as Pathos. One of the many uses of Pathos is in the opening scene is when Bill is greeting the soldiers returning from Afghanistan. The goal for the experiment was to distinguish the perpetrator of the crime through the observation of the DNA in each suspect. In order to do this, each collection of the certain DNA was initially stained in order for it to be visible and separated into smaller fragments with restriction enzymes. Gel electrophoresis was used to separate the DNAmolecules based on size. To do this, a micropipette and agarose gel were utilized. The micropipette collected 10 microliters of each DNA at a time and was meticulously placed inside a well of the porous gel. Intel is not an exception to this trend; in fact, the mega corporation is a prime example of what American tech giants look like: Intel has their hand in essentially every market dealing with computer components, from memory and memory controllers, to accelerators, to their main attraction, Central Processing Units, or CPU s, for Desktops, Laptops, and Servers. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition. 5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations apart, they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no birds singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and fetch our buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman enjoys sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys the adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have the same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship. 6. After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a school campus on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. • 27. The Character Of Shakespeare s Macbeth Or A Tragic Hero In the Shakespearean play of Macbeth, Macbeth can be considered a tragic hero or a villain depending on the extent. But, to what extent is he is a tragic hero or a villain? From act to act, the reader can see Macbeth s character develop and the changes in the way other perceive him. In the way Shakespeare writes, he makes Macbeths character progressive, meaning that through the play his redeeming qualities appear to diminish. Macbeth, although his actions are strengthened by Lady Macbeth and the witches, his own intentions ultimately lead to his defeat and can lead him to be characterized as either a villain or a tragic hero. Macbeth has several redeeming qualities, or potentially heroic qualities, that can classify him as a tragic hero, but he also has some qualities that could characterize his as a villain. A tragic hero, according to Aristotle s definition, must be a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction . Macbeth displays the characteristics of a tragic hero because inevitable that he is fully responsible for his own actions. He also realizes that what he is planning to commit, Duncan s murder, is a crime and realizes this with the other murders as well. Macbeth is destined for downfall, suffering and defeat from the beginning of the play, after he begins to contemplate the witches prophecies. Finally, Macbeth, like a tragic hero has heroic or potentially heroic qualities, such as ambition, bravery, kindness and imaginativness. Macbeth is ambitious because even though the witches give opportunity for temptation brought up through their words, he allows his ambitious thoughts to have full control. He demonstrates bravery because he commented on for being brave when fighting against Macdonwald and Sweno in the first act. Lady Macbeth mentions Macbeth s feature of kindness when she says [y]et I do fear thy nature/[i]t is too full o the milk of human kindness (1.5.4) . First and foremost feminists argue that the idea of a naked woman in a magazine is degrading to that woman in particular and to women as a whole; Playboy and men s magazines in general make women out to be sex objects (Burstyn, 42). Playboy objectifies women, leaving out the human side (Burstyn, 43). Feminists also say that soft pornography leads to hard pornography which can then lead to violent crimes against women. Rick Heibert in his article A hard line against soft porn says that psychologists have found that viewing soft pornography inevitably leads to harder material (par 4). Others would take this a step further and contend that the viewing of violent pornography then leads to an increased likelihood of committing a violent sexual crime (Cramer 202). All members within a society are assumed to agree to the terms of the social contract by their choice to stay within the society without violating the contract; such violation would signify a problematic attempt to return to the state of nature. Rousseau s theory has many similarities with the individualist Lockean liberal tradition, but also departs from it on many significant points. For example, his theory of popular sovereignty includes a conception of a general will , which is more than the simple sum of individual wills: it is thus collectivist or holistic, rather than individualist. As an individual, Rousseau argues, the subject can be egoist and decide that his personal interest should override the collective interest. However, as part of a collective body, the individual subject puts aside his egoism to create a general will , which is popular sovereignty itself. Popular sovereignty thus decides only what is good for society as a whole: The heart of the idea of the social contract may be stated simply: Each of us places his person and authority under the supreme direction of the general will, and the group receives each individual as an indivisible part of the whole... Similarly, repurposing of the software positively effects the organization, by saving an amount that would have been spent on a new software purchase, and creating some extra budget that could be invested towards other strategic investments or initiatives (Heier et al., 2008). In terms of the operations cost, even though the repurpose might slightly increase its maintenance cost if the software has already been used for many years, but still by evaluating the whole operational budget for two different functions it still is a cost effective strategy (Heier et al., 2008). Additionally, it serves as a valuable asset to the organization, in terms of saving both time and money of their IT staff, as they no longer are learning totally new software. On the downside, there might be certain hidden operational costs involved that might require more maintenance, for instance the software can have limited memory or processing capacity, so in such a case it might actually cost more to repurposing the same software (Heier et al., 2008). ... But if they have a child, for you is one fourth of what they leave, after any bequest they [may have] made or debt. And for the wives is one fourth if you leave no child. • 36. Power Corruption in Heart of Darkness Essay In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, the author fiercely challenges imperialism. Through this challenge, he demonstrates the internal battles of good and evil. In his work, he also displays issues of personal morals and alienation. At the time the novella was written, Europe had established territories across the map. It holds true that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, especially when said power reigns over the fate of humans in society. Conrad illustrates the corruption of power through the books motif of darkness and the renegade of Kurtz. Darkness makes a quick appearance in the literature because it s in the title. The standard in the Victorian era was the men were far away, while the women were morally supportive, but oblivious to the reality of the man s work, although they economically benefitted from it. This proves the way power corrupts because Kurtz abused the opportunities given after falling from the edge of moral standards, even after his Intended attempts to show him the way. In 1902, when Conrad wrote the book, it was common to base culture off of superiority, therefore it was seen that Kurtz was in the Congo for the redemption of natives. In the text, Joseph Conrad gives much respect to the native tribes, Mr. Kurtz, however, has none. Exterminate all brutes! (Conrad 50) he says, claiming that if he cannot change the natives, they should be thrown out. He, and many people like him, introduced new cultures to societies that did not want it. The corruption of the spirituality found in some cultures is thus caused by the hunger for power from interference from separate societies. Power and happiness go hand in hand. When one abuses power it reveal their limitations and perhaps inability to maintain power to help the greater good. I try to avert my gaze, to search for Alice, but I can t move, my body is cased in stone. His voice, smooth and enticing, commands me to move, and I obey. Where is he leading me? I can smell the ocean, feel the cool breeze on my skin. As I glide my hands across my body, the cool silk of the blue dress kisses my palms and fingertips. The coarse ground cuts into my naked feet. Where did my shoes go? Did I leave them back at the apartment? I don t remember leaving my apartment, or meeting, Angelo. Walk to the edge, Angelo commands. Go on, walk to the edge. I m released from his gaze as he steps out of my view, giving me the opportunity to survey my surroundings. At the water s edge, boats bob over waves that grow stronger, crashing against the wall and soaking the ground. A few buildings kiss the skyline, too far for anyone to capture a glimpse of us. The fierce sky looms overhead with dark grey clouds. Alice s was right, Angelo plans to kill me, to dump my body in the ocean like all the other women. With no control of my limbs, my feet walk to the edge, allowing me to peer into the murky, green water dressed with whitecaps. A wave crashes against the wall, soaking me. п»їIt s freezing. As a graded version, I ve had the book from Oxford University Press, stage 2 which is 700 words. The CD version was also available in the graded book and was retold by Jennifer Bassett. The first difference between the two versions was the number of chapters, the original had 12 chapters whereas the graded one only 6. After the very first chapter of the graded version, I did not find anything important missing. The language was, of course, more simple, some of the sentences were left out, but everything important was kept. This performance was done by the New York Philharmonic and launched the New York Philharmonic s 175th anniversary season. This concert was performed by an orchestra and was definitely a performance I enjoyed to watch and listen to. In the beginning of the performance, the orchestra begins with an adagio tempo, using instruments such as cellos and violins. The tempo is very slow and soothing until it suddenly interrupted by the sound of trumpets. This is setting a tone that something very dramatic is about to happen. After the trumpets sound, oboes and flutes begin to play using the same adagio tempo as it was used in the beginning of the performance. As the flutes and clarinets slowly stop, you can see the conductor, Alan Gilbert, slowly move his arms apart to instruct the orchestra to get prepared. Gilbert then swings his arms up and the orchestra switches to an allegro tempo by using crescendo. Violins, cellos, drums, French horns, tenor trombones and bass trombones are now used to create a suspenseful tone as if something tragic has just happened. It then changes back to the adagio tempo using instruments with low pitch and then transfers back to the oboes, flutes and violins. The first ten minutes of the performance is a wide variation between adagio and allegro and molto allegro and basically switches tempos between the three which is why I really enjoyed ... The only way out of this permanent state of warre is through a social contract in which people give up some of their rights in order to get some protection from the governing body (the general rule being do unto your neighbors as you would have them do unto you). Although he does not literally say it, obedience is a strong underlying factor to the social contract and mutual state of peace.
