Children s Development As An Integral Part Of A Child...
Play is important in a child s development as it helps in the child s cognitive, emotional, physical and
social development. It is through play that the child is able to interact and engage with the world
around them and discover new things such as the objects they fiddle with and the lessons that they will
soon learn from interacting with toys and people. Under article 31 (leisure, play and culture) of the
United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child, play has been recognized as being an integral
part of a child s development, to which children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide
range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities .
Play can help in a child s cognitive development, especially in ... Show more content on

(Black book) Children who participate in pretend play also tend to grasp verbal skills better later on in

lives such as how their mothers pour tea into teacups for guests or older family members and copies
this action when they line their stuffed toys around them and taking on the motherly role, pouring tea
out of teapots for the stuffed toys. Here we see children taking on realistic adult roles that they have
observed which may help them better understand what one of the many motherly roles might be, and
by understanding, they build a new schema in their brain in relation to what a mother is and in the
process, learn something new.
Play can help develop a child s emotional aspect with the use of transitional objects. Transitional
objects such as a child s teddy bear or doll can act as the child s first stepping stone into reality, which
might be too complicated for the child to handle all by himself. Emotionally difficult situations to a
child such as not receiving enough love or craving for more love from adult figures but yet, unable to
gain it, may turn to his teddy bear for comfort and a sense of belonging. In this case, playing with the
teddy bear can downplay the feeling of hurt and help in

The Importance Of Technology And Digital Media
It is evident that society has surrounded itself with technology. Technology and digital media are mass
media outlets that will ultimately affect our perception and ability to interpret and actively analyze
messages. Unfortunately, nefarious characters with shady intentions can take advantage of this and
spread false information. Thus, technology and digital media degrade the most common forms of
discussion. The rapid expansion of technology and digital media leads to poor mental health,
decreased quality of face to face communication, and the inability to discern false media sources. It is
imperative that society acknowledges our decline in face to face communication and respond as a
unified unit to strive to step away from technology and to interact with those around us more
effectively.
Technology has expanded at an unprecedented rate. Per the U.S. Census, 76% of households reported
having a computer in 2011, compared with only 8% in 1984 . (Drago, 2015, p.2). Computers and
digital media allow us to access information far more readily than ever before. From the introduction
of computers, humans have adapted to this new technology, bringing it into our households and
including them in daily routines, giving the ability to access digital information without needing to
read it from a physical direct source. Long gone are the days where painstaking research meant going
to the library and pouring through countless pages of research notes, papers, encyclopedias, and
reference material. The need to find something is brought up and the cultivated 21st century instinct
reverts individuals to Google or to other digital media outlets for our information. Digital media as
well has expanded swiftly. From 2005 to 2009, participation in digital networking sites more than
quadrupled (Chou, Hunt, Beckjord, Moser, Hesse, 2009, pg.1). Digital media is expanding at a
stunning rate, but not always for the better.
From the statistics introduced, we can see the rapid expansion of technology and digital media. Digital
media stemming from technology is one of the culprits to human s issues. Digital media is not all bad;
it gives individuals the opportunity to reacquaint past relationships, express emotion, and keep friends

The Negative Effects Of Technology On Youth
Most adults would say that kids in today s day and age have it a thousand times easier than they did
when they were young. They might have had to walk 30 miles to school in the rain, however, they
were not faced with modern technology and the potentially harmful side effects it has on youth. The
harmful effects of technology on youth tends to be overlooked, especially by parents who do not pay
this topic any attention. In turn, this allows their children to develop mental and social health issues.
Adolescents today seem to have an issue when it comes to personal coping skills. Although not all
youth have this issue there is a small percentage of kids who do. When something in their life goes
astray, they don t make an attempt to deal with the issue at hand. Some will try to indulge themselves
in an activity to distracted or forget about the issues they may be facing because they do not possess
the interpersonal coping skills to address their problems. An excellent example of this is presented by
John Rosegrant in his article Clinicians Respond to Their Clients Technology he states ...a young man
s excessive engagement with World of Warcraft stemmed from his need to retreat from intense shame
that he had been unable to manage in the real world... (Rosegrant 1162) The young man suffered as a
victim of shaming has issues with shaming in his real life. Instead of doing the healthy thing and
reviewing his situation personally or trying to talk about it with his friends and family in an attempt to
resolve his problem, he decided to just go home and confide in play World of Warcraft. This is not
only unhealthy for his mental health, but it is also showing how youth try to engulf themselves in
technology to try and escape real world problems. This is not teaching proper coping skills and instead
just teaches them to push their problems aside and let them pile up. Adolescents need to be taught that
this is not the right way to address their issues, and instead, show them that they can go and talk to
their friends and family in times of need.
Another issuetopic that most people are familiar with is the toxic platform that social media
creates.issue that technology has provided and that is social media. Social media

Burglary Of Robbery And Robbery Essay
Burglary and robbery are different in many ways, but are the same. Burglary is when a person
unlawful entry to a person home or business building to commit the act of theft or a felony. When the
action of a burglary is committed by someone, the victim does not have to be present at the time of the
incident. (DeMille, 2016). When dealing with building types it can be numerous kind of business
offices. Burglary must take place when a person only unlawfully entered your home or building
without permission. Depending on the state s the status of the laws for the offense of burglary can be
considered a felony. Robbery is when a person has taken or trying to take something from another
person that has value unlawfully by force, intimidation or even threatening that person. Robbery is
different from burglary because in order for a person to commit the offense of robbery, a victim must
be present at the time of the incident for the crime to occur. Depending on the states and the values of
the item that was taken from the victim at the time of the incident the states statues of the laws for the
offense of robbery can be considered a felony. (DeMille, 2016). Burglary and robbery are the same in
only one category; both are considered to be property crimes. Search warrant requirement is the most

Rene Descartes Ontological Argument
Cogito ergo sum ( I think, therefore, I am ) (Descartes, Miller, Miller, 1983). René Descartes was a
philosopher of the 17th century who made major contributions to the field. Everything from his
metaphysical arguments of existence of man to his proofs for the existence of God are still discussed
and debated today. In the field of religion, most famous is his Ontological proof for the existence of
God. In other words, proof that one can know God a priori, with no experience whatsoever. Following
his publication, a philosopher named Caterus raised key objections to his proof, which he later
responded to in an intriguing way. Descartes s reply to Caterus s critique of Descartes s Ontological
argument does not properly refute the objections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, he is justifying that although the greatest thought may be inseparable from existing, it
does not prove that this being must exist. Backing this claim up, he creates this idea of an existent lion
. Caterus writes, This complex existent lion includes both lion and the mode existence; and incudes
them essentially, for if you take away either it will not be the same complex (Descartes, 2009, p.86).
In writing this, Caterus shows that although something may possess the mode existing , that mode
only applies if the object itself already exists. Likewise, one cannot prove the existence of God
without first showing that God already exists (Descartes, 2009, pp.86 7). Throughout Caterus s
critique, many strong objections are raised, and it is when Descartes attempts to respond that the
argument falls apart. Descartes fails to properly refute any objections raised by Caterus, or solidify is
case. To begin his response, Descartes (2009) begins by contrasting St. Thomas s argument and his
own. In this contrasting, he states that his argument is not subject to the criticisms St. Thomas s
argument is, due to the different wording used (p.87). I believe, however, that Caterus was not
attempting to directly say the arguments were identical. Caterus even acknowledges the difference in
wording. The object Caterus, through St. Thomas, raised is that it does not follow solely from the
properties of which God has, that

Blind Faith in Raymond Carver s Cathedral Essay
Blind Faith in Raymond Carver s Cathedral
In the story Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the main character, goes through a major personal
transformation. At the beginning of the story, his opinions of others are filled with stereotypes,
discrimination and prejudice. Through interaction with his wife s blind friend Robert, his attitude and
outlook on life changes. Although at first he seemed afraid to associate with a blind man, Robert s
outgoing personality left him with virtually no choice. During Robert s visit, he proved to be a normal
man, and showed the speaker that by closing his eyes, he could open his mind.
The speaker s prejudice was nearly overwhelming at the opening of the story. His being blind bothered

The color of Beulah s skin was not important to Robert, and therefore was not mentioned by the
character.
Until he met Robert, the speaker merely referred to Robert as the blind man, instead of someone with
a name or someone with importance. He did not seem to understand why his wife had kept in touch
with Robert, or how they became so close. He also seemed to feel that Robert was a nuisance to
society, someone who could not take care of himself. The character spoke of the pity he felt for Beulah
because Robert could never see what she looked like, read the expression on her face or receive the
smallest compliment from her husband.
When Robert arrived in his house, the speaker began his transformation. It began immediately upon
seeing Robert with his wife, his eyes drawn to the smile Robert had placed on her face. The speaker
witnessed the depth of conversation Robert had with his wife, as if he wasn t even in the room, and it
seemed to spark some jealousy. Most of the changes that the speaker underwent in his understanding
of Robert were because he realized that Robert was normal.
The speaker was surprised to see a beard on a blind man. He had always thought dark glasses were a
must for the blind, yet Robert wore none. He had read the blind didn t smoke, but Robert filled ashtray
after ashtray in his home. The speaker watched as Robert ate, knowing where everything was on his

The Short Story Nethergrave By Tim Berners-Lee
Internet. The Internet is a vast place full of the world s information as well as false information. The
first prototype of the Internet, ARPANET, was invented in the early 1960 s as a platform to easier
track planes and missiles. After 2 decades of trial and error, in 1980 s Tim Berners Lee, a British
computer scientist found the way to link all the factors and make what we know today as modern
internet.
The Internet as we know it today is a very diverse place, almost like a virtual library. You have your
study materials, your game section, just random fun things, bad medical advice and tons of other tips

Article On Content And Coverage
Magazine Article
Content Coverage The audience for the magazine Education is more of scholarly audience rather than
a consumer audience. The proposed information is written secondary in nature because the author is
discussing a study on Hispanic parents perception of education. The article does provide in depth
information on the specific statistics and findings of the study. The article did have links to other
articles within the magazine based on key words such as education, community, academic
achievement, and family. Although there was no bibliography, there was an extensive list of references
mentioned in the article. There was a total of 26 references recognized in the article (Hwang

Timeliness
The magazine article was written in the summer of 2010. It did not specify a month and date. No
further updates appear to have been posted but the article was uploaded to the General OneFile
website on October 3, 2015. The citations appear to be outdated because some of the data used is over
ten years old. Even though the article is five years old, I would state that the information is outdated.
The limitation of the material is crucial since the article is focused on a survey which needs to be
current for this particular topic (Hwang Vrongistinos, 2010).

How Teamwork Changed My Life
It was the fall of 2003, a cool and cloudless California morning. My parents, who dressed me up with
a polo shirt and khakis, waited patiently for the school bus as I looked fearfully at what was going to
happen. I didn t want to leave my house, nor did I want to go to school. I was a shy boy, who didn t
like doing anything but staying at home and minding my own business. When the school bus finally
came, I climbed on to the yellow bus and looked outside fearfully as my parents waved goodbye. I
was too scared for the first day of school, which helped me shape the person I am today. Throughout
my life, I ve been to different places, from Oklahoma to a whole different country in a different

Cleisthenes As An Opportunist
Cleisthenes was the Athenian politician setting the stage of democracy around c.520 BC and to c.400
BC. An opportunist is defined by Oxford dictionaries as: A person who takes advantage of
opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principle . For many, this sums up the
rule of Cleisthenes as he took advantage of the anti tyrannical movement and of the power he was
given to improve the position of himself and his Alcmaeonid family. However, this essay will argue
that although Cleisthenes did take advantage of opportunities, he was ultimately very principled in
nature and was actually a reactionist. This is to say that he reacted to problems and events that
occurred and dealt with them the best he could, rather than taking advantage of the opportunity to
better himself, the elite classes or his family.
To many, Cleisthenes was simply an opportunist. One way he can be said to be opportunistic is during
his rise to power. This idea has stemmed from the ancient Greek author Herodotus, and in parts
Aristotle as well. On the whole, these are two ancient authors with semi opposing views, with
Herodotus being a stronger source for stating Cleisthenes was an opportunist. The main reason most
historians believe that Cleisthenes was an opportunist is because of the account from Herodotus
histories. The account is as follows: these two [Isagoras and Cleisthenes] were rivals for power, and
Cleisthenes, who was getting the worst of it, took the people into his

Logistics Collaborations
Introduction
Collaborations allow for businesses to focus on what they specialize in, while eliminating excess work
outside of the core function of their operation. Within the readings of Diagnosing Greatness, Pisano
Verganti dispute, the collaborative approach chosen must be right for the organization and its business
circumstances (Poirier, 2008, p. 99). The focus on a collaboration benefiting its business
circumstances, in addition to yielding benefits, while allowing for a competitive market place are key.
Despite the need for competition in a successful marketplace, collaborations yield unprecedented

A collaboration of this scale allows for the brand to share logistics of this machinery between the
brands, while still allowing for competition in sales of its distinctive vehicles.
Results
Dating back to 2013, the two automotive manufactures began discussing ideas of collaborating on an
automatic transmission (Rosevear, 2016). The two brands began the collaboration in 2016 (Rosevear,
2016) on this project, as it would save millions over the combined sales between the two companies,
rather than front the cost of developing individual parts. Most automotive brands source this part from
a German company ZF Friedrichshafen (Rosevear, 2016), to save cost on producing a complex piece
of mechanics for their automobiles. The logistics required to manufacture as well as supply this
complex part of an automobile pose a massive cost in the industry. Furthermore, automobiles
manufactured at multiple locations across the globe share this similar part, manufacturing it separately
at each location poses many additional unwanted supply chain processes. By consolidating
transmission production between Ford and General Motors, the logistics operation significantly
downsizes for the two brands.

Analysis Of Dorothy Allison s Bastards Out Of Carolina
As a society we often judge or form opinions based on others according to their gender, race and class;
this is called stereotyping. Stereotyping involves making generalizations to describe or differentiate a
group. Stereotypes are harmful to women and their experiences, because they can cause bad decision
making that can lead to negative outcomes. Anney Boatwright in Dorothy Allison s novel Bastards
Out of Carolina is heavily burdened by the stereotype of being identified as white trash, which leads
her to making unorthodox decisions regarding her family in hope of breaking free of this white trash
stereotype. Stereotypes are destructive in the shaping of individuals lives, because they make us
disregard differences between individuals. Since stereotypes are everywhere and they are impossible
to escape Anney finds herself conforming to gender stereotypes in order to try to rid herself of this
white trash stereotype. Gender stereotyping plays a major role in the white trash stereotype that is both
racialized and classed. This gender stereotype of women needing a man in their life is taught from
birth. In traditional white families both parents are usually in their children s life, the women are
typically stay at home mothers that take care of the cooking and cleaning, the men have white collar
jobs and they typically live a privileged lifestyle, but since Anney is the exact opposite of this she is
stereotyped as white trash. White trash refers to white people who

Petrified Wood
2. Background on the mineralogical composition of petrified woods
A diverse suite of minerals and phases have been found in petrified woods from all over the world.
The common species found range from pure opal to pure quartz whereas others include calcite,
dolomite, pyrite, goethite, phosphates (apatite), laumontite, uraninite, sphalerite and organics (Nowak
et al., 2005). In coal deposits inundated by sea water (Yossifova et al., 2011), the woods can be
permineralized by quartz, plagioclase, muscovite, smectite, kaolinite and nacrite (a typical
hydrothermal mineral).
Cross polarized light shows that opal CT has very low interference colours, in contrast to the brighter
colours typical of chalcedony (Mustoe, 2008). However, polarizing microscope images alone cannot
resolve the degree of crystallinity of phases. For this, XRD and Raman microscopy are required to
clearly identify chalcedony, moganite, orthorhombic silica, opal CT, opal C and quartz (HatipoÄŸlu and
Türk, 2009). It is not easy to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organic constituents of cell walls have a strong affinity for silicic acid molecules (Leo Barghoorn,
1976). Opal mineralized woods have densities ) are attached to the interior surfaces of cell walls,
where they are enclosed within colourless chalcedony that later permineralized the cell lumina
(Mustoe, 2008). The observed alternating crystallization of quartz and chalcedony may be caused by
variations in the degree of silica saturation of the mineral forming SiO bearing fluids. These results
confirm the earlier conclusions of Heaney and Davis (1995) and Götze et al. (1998) who showed that
the agate structure can probably be interpreted as an alternating formation of fine grained, highly
defective chalcedony intergrown with moganite, and coarse grained low defect quartz (Götze et al.,

Imagery In Shirley
Shirley by Charlotte Bronte describes the tough decisions and life changing experiences that have to
be made when one turns 18. In her story, she uses imagery to capture the reader s attention and point
of view to allow the readers opinion to lead them in the direction they want the story to go. By doing
so she lets the reader hold the wheel and allow them to lead their life to their own destination. Bronte
uses imagery through the story in very unique ways. Besides her first paragraph where she described
life before that time (Line 5 and 6), she also used it very well in the second paragraph. Her comparison
between Reality and Death , both used as places, gave the readers a quick description of the changes
she is going through in the

Dbq Essay On Sweatshops
Sweatshops are factories that are used around the world that major brand companies use to make
products. These factories have gained media attention and controversy for the long hours and low pay
given to the workers. Many people say to boycott these factories because of the latter reasons, but
consumers shouldn t boycott companies that make sweatshop products. The first reason consumers
shouldn t boycott these products would be people actually deliberately take these jobs because in
developing countries most jobs don t pay that much. The second reason consumers shouldn t boycott
sweatshop products would be that it allows a lot of people in the developing worlds to rise out of
poverty. To summarize, consumers do not have the ethical responsibility to boycott products made in
sweatshops. As stated in the previous paragraph, people actually take these jobs willingly because in

One point of their argument is companies exploit poor people in developing countries as said in
document 1. However, this doesn t apply to every sweatshop just a few and most people that work at
sweatshop factories taking these jobs willingly and were confused as to why people wanted to shut
down their workplaces as stated in an interview with some sweatshop workers in China. Another main
point of their argument is that conditions in these factories are abusive and horrible. However, again
many people take these jobs willingly meaning that they really don t care about these conditions
because they need money. Finally they believe that boycotting sweatshops will do something good for
the world. In the video it makes a very good point that at least sweatshops are doing something to end
global poverty while the people who are trying to boycott these sweatshops may think they are doing
something but in reality they aren t doing anything to help end global

Snowball
I have played soccer since 2008. I had been playing with them for years, there was Squash, Josh, Jake
and more. I was with them for 6 years but got kicked anyway. This is similar to how Boxer and
Snowball were betrayed by the pigs and had to get out of the farm even though they were there from
the start. In the novel Snowball gives his all at establishing the community in Animal Farm. Without
Snowball a lot of the things on the farm wouldn t have happened. He was one of the main reasons that
the revolution happened. For Boxer he was used and abused even more than Snowball, while
Snowball was giving 100% Boxer would always give 120% putting his all and more into the
development of animal farm. When others were not doing much he was giving that much more going
above and beyond the call of duty. Snowball and Boxer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along the way some came and went while others I am still good friends. With Diamonds the years I
was there were good ones and while I wasn t the best I would give my all. The teams I was with over
the years slowly went from being one of the dominant teams to being a ok one finishing 7th or 8th.
The year I was sacked they had more players than what they wanted. The coach had gotten the
superstars from multiple teams so he could make a dream team. Like Snowball and Boxer I was
betrayed and others stayed. My coach at the time was like Napoleon in the sense he wanted leadership
and power as well as boosting their ego. They were both out for themselves trying to do what they
wanted. While Napoleon got what he wanted with having the power that Mr. Jones had, My coach got
what he wanted with making the soccer team Murry United adding this local area to a Melbourne
league. They both had the sin of greed with wanting these. While they both had positives with
Napoleon having a farm with a better production speed than they had with Mr. Jones, and my Coach

The Importance Of My Day At School
School started and I sat in the front with a group of people I didn t know. I looked around, seeing a lot
of students already talking to their friends. None of my friends were there. I looked down as the
teacher introduced herself. The class started and I just sat there exploring the room. I added all of my
things into my desk. Once the bell rang, I went to my next class. We had to stay together as a class in
the hallways, single file line as the teacher would say. The day went on the same way until lunchtime.
The first thing I did was walk around and find the other classrooms. I spotted my friends and ran
towards them. I gave them a big hug and I started talking to them. Once they called my classroom to
get up for lunch I had to leave them. I went up and got lunch and then sat by myself. Two other people
needed seats, so they moved to my side and sat with me. I kept quiet until it was time for recess. I
went out with my friends and we chased eachother around. Soon we had to go back to our classrooms
and finish our day. We said our goodbyes and finished the school day.
My father picked me up and asked, How was your day at school? . I told him it was good, as I was
able to see my friends. He then told me I should make new friends, and that I should be confident like
I used to be. Always being a new kid at a school has its downfalls. Not everybody was like me, and
not everybody I talked to liked me either. My friends were the toys that I ve unwrapped so eagerly on

Common Representations Of Nordic Culture
Common Representations of Nordic Culture and Surrounding Ideologies Through Linguistic Features
in Recent Animated Films In many animated films, accents are used to demonize villains, set
characters apart from the group, highlight strangeness, or add to the setting of the film. Then why is
that a more standard American accent used for main characters as apposed to the Nordic or pseudo
Nordic accents of the supporting roles? In this paper, we will look at the ways in which Scandinavians
are portrayed in Disney s Frozen and DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon franchise by comparing
the traits of those with accents to those without. Across American animated media representations of
Nordic culture, the protagonist and their friends speak with a standard American accent. For example,
in the How to Train Your Dragon films, Hiccup and his friends are portrayed with out a heavy accent,
which stands in strong relief to the voicing of other characters such as Stoick and Gobber. Hiccup,
voiced by Jay Baruchel, is made to stand out from the other Vikings as well as to be made more
relatable to the films predominately American audience. The use of accented voicing for characters
such as Stoick and Gobber, voiced by Gerard Butler and Craig Freguson, respectively, is likely
intended mainly to create the atmosphere for the film but also indexes them as hyper masculine
Vikings. The movie opens with an intro narrated by the main character, Hiccup. Here he sets the scene

Allison Millic A Short Story
Its bizarre how one situation from your past can affect your future and every decision you make for
the rest of your life (Millican). Allison Millican, a strong young lady, has been through many major
life changing events growing up. No child would ever think of nor wish upon him/herself the series of
events she has been through. These events affected her state of mind plus the choices she made for
every important situation, for the rest of her life. This childhood trauma led to depression as well as
anxiety, however, it all started the day her parents finalized their divorce. As a very young child,
Allison lived in a strict, conservative home with morals and a firm belief that once married, always
married; divorce is simply giving up and not giving your all. She lived in a home that went to church
every sunday,in addition stayed to themselves about personal conflicts like any conservative family
would ordinarily do. As time went on those morals started to fade. What was once a happy marriage
turned into an emotional, high strung marriage. Allison, being so young, didn t remember much of
what happened, nevertheless she knew that matters were changing. Ironically, the conservative family
with morals divided, leading to the start of a brand new life Allison could never be prepared for.
After the divorce, Allison s living situation went back and forth like a game of tug of war. One week
she stayed with her father then the next she was with her mother. As one can imagine, it was very hard
on her having to transition every week, not to mention the new habit her mother picked up. As a result,
he had totally forgotten about her own daughter, also all of her attention turned towards something
else. Allison felt as if she couldn t go to her father because of his bussiness with a new girlfriend along
with his work schedule. Her mother s new habit involved drinking and drinking all the time to cope
with the hard, overwhelming separation. Sometimes what starts as a bad habit can become a very big
problem (Foundation). When her mother would come home after work she would drink alcohol then
sleep every opportunity she could. Allison was slowly losing her mother. Then, Allison made a
promise to herself. Without

This story tells of the transformation that Ebenezer Scrooge went through from a tight fisted tempered
person to a generous and friendly man. This is brought about by haunting visions at Christmas that
remind Scrooge of his happier days, until the generous spirit shows him misfortunes. This terrifies him
with urgent prospects if he should not change his ways ( Dickens ). He had no further intercourse with
Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and it was always said of him,
that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be
truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One! (Dickens 92)

Analyzing Robert Palmer s What Pop Lyrics Say To Us Today
In What Pop Lyrics Say to Us Today writer Robert Palmer analyzes pop lyrics over the recent decades
and concludes pop music sends dominant messages that are influential to young people. Pop has
always thoroughly responded to current events, and today s pop music continues to reflect that culture.
To begin with, pop can change attitudes toward love. Palmer first refers to stars such as Bob Dylan
and the Rolling Stones who endorse sex to urge social change and revolution. Their music was a voice
and reminder to older generations that they possessed influential power. True romantic notions tend to
be viewed with some suspicion. Palmer also discusses how in comparison to music of the 60 s,
idealisms have changed since current times. The Beatles

  • 2. Children s Development As An Integral Part Of A Child... Play is important in a child s development as it helps in the child s cognitive, emotional, physical and social development. It is through play that the child is able to interact and engage with the world around them and discover new things such as the objects they fiddle with and the lessons that they will soon learn from interacting with toys and people. Under article 31 (leisure, play and culture) of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child, play has been recognized as being an integral part of a child s development, to which children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities . Play can help in a child s cognitive development, especially in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Black book) Children who participate in pretend play also tend to grasp verbal skills better later on in life. (http://www.seattlepi.com/lifestyle/article/Researchers take on imaginary playmates for 1161361.php) Children also learn and mimic adult roles that they have observed in their everyday lives such as how their mothers pour tea into teacups for guests or older family members and copies this action when they line their stuffed toys around them and taking on the motherly role, pouring tea out of teapots for the stuffed toys. Here we see children taking on realistic adult roles that they have observed which may help them better understand what one of the many motherly roles might be, and by understanding, they build a new schema in their brain in relation to what a mother is and in the process, learn something new. Play can help develop a child s emotional aspect with the use of transitional objects. Transitional objects such as a child s teddy bear or doll can act as the child s first stepping stone into reality, which might be too complicated for the child to handle all by himself. Emotionally difficult situations to a child such as not receiving enough love or craving for more love from adult figures but yet, unable to gain it, may turn to his teddy bear for comfort and a sense of belonging. In this case, playing with the teddy bear can downplay the feeling of hurt and help in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Technology And Digital Media It is evident that society has surrounded itself with technology. Technology and digital media are mass media outlets that will ultimately affect our perception and ability to interpret and actively analyze messages. Unfortunately, nefarious characters with shady intentions can take advantage of this and spread false information. Thus, technology and digital media degrade the most common forms of discussion. The rapid expansion of technology and digital media leads to poor mental health, decreased quality of face to face communication, and the inability to discern false media sources. It is imperative that society acknowledges our decline in face to face communication and respond as a unified unit to strive to step away from technology and to interact with those around us more effectively. Technology has expanded at an unprecedented rate. Per the U.S. Census, 76% of households reported having a computer in 2011, compared with only 8% in 1984 . (Drago, 2015, p.2). Computers and digital media allow us to access information far more readily than ever before. From the introduction of computers, humans have adapted to this new technology, bringing it into our households and including them in daily routines, giving the ability to access digital information without needing to read it from a physical direct source. Long gone are the days where painstaking research meant going to the library and pouring through countless pages of research notes, papers, encyclopedias, and reference material. The need to find something is brought up and the cultivated 21st century instinct reverts individuals to Google or to other digital media outlets for our information. Digital media as well has expanded swiftly. From 2005 to 2009, participation in digital networking sites more than quadrupled (Chou, Hunt, Beckjord, Moser, Hesse, 2009, pg.1). Digital media is expanding at a stunning rate, but not always for the better. From the statistics introduced, we can see the rapid expansion of technology and digital media. Digital media stemming from technology is one of the culprits to human s issues. Digital media is not all bad; it gives individuals the opportunity to reacquaint past relationships, express emotion, and keep friends and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Negative Effects Of Technology On Youth Most adults would say that kids in today s day and age have it a thousand times easier than they did when they were young. They might have had to walk 30 miles to school in the rain, however, they were not faced with modern technology and the potentially harmful side effects it has on youth. The harmful effects of technology on youth tends to be overlooked, especially by parents who do not pay this topic any attention. In turn, this allows their children to develop mental and social health issues. Adolescents today seem to have an issue when it comes to personal coping skills. Although not all youth have this issue there is a small percentage of kids who do. When something in their life goes astray, they don t make an attempt to deal with the issue at hand. Some will try to indulge themselves in an activity to distracted or forget about the issues they may be facing because they do not possess the interpersonal coping skills to address their problems. An excellent example of this is presented by John Rosegrant in his article Clinicians Respond to Their Clients Technology he states ...a young man s excessive engagement with World of Warcraft stemmed from his need to retreat from intense shame that he had been unable to manage in the real world... (Rosegrant 1162) The young man suffered as a victim of shaming has issues with shaming in his real life. Instead of doing the healthy thing and reviewing his situation personally or trying to talk about it with his friends and family in an attempt to resolve his problem, he decided to just go home and confide in play World of Warcraft. This is not only unhealthy for his mental health, but it is also showing how youth try to engulf themselves in technology to try and escape real world problems. This is not teaching proper coping skills and instead just teaches them to push their problems aside and let them pile up. Adolescents need to be taught that this is not the right way to address their issues, and instead, show them that they can go and talk to their friends and family in times of need. Another issuetopic that most people are familiar with is the toxic platform that social media creates.issue that technology has provided and that is social media. Social media ... • 8. Rene Descartes Ontological Argument Cogito ergo sum ( I think, therefore, I am ) (Descartes, Miller, Miller, 1983). René Descartes was a philosopher of the 17th century who made major contributions to the field. Everything from his metaphysical arguments of existence of man to his proofs for the existence of God are still discussed and debated today. In the field of religion, most famous is his Ontological proof for the existence of God. In other words, proof that one can know God a priori, with no experience whatsoever. Following his publication, a philosopher named Caterus raised key objections to his proof, which he later responded to in an intriguing way. In other words, he is justifying that although the greatest thought may be inseparable from existing, it does not prove that this being must exist. Backing this claim up, he creates this idea of an existent lion . Caterus writes, This complex existent lion includes both lion and the mode existence; and incudes them essentially, for if you take away either it will not be the same complex (Descartes, 2009, p.86). In writing this, Caterus shows that although something may possess the mode existing , that mode only applies if the object itself already exists. Likewise, one cannot prove the existence of God without first showing that God already exists (Descartes, 2009, pp.86 7). Throughout Caterus s critique, many strong objections are raised, and it is when Descartes attempts to respond that the argument falls apart. Descartes fails to properly refute any objections raised by Caterus, or solidify is case. To begin his response, Descartes (2009) begins by contrasting St. Thomas s argument and his own. In this contrasting, he states that his argument is not subject to the criticisms St. Thomas s argument is, due to the different wording used (p.87). I believe, however, that Caterus was not attempting to directly say the arguments were identical. Caterus even acknowledges the difference in wording. The object Caterus, through St. Thomas, raised is that it does not follow solely from the properties of which God has, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although at first he seemed afraid to associate with a blind man, Robert s outgoing personality left him with virtually no choice. He also seemed to feel that Robert was a nuisance to society, someone who could not take care of himself. The character spoke of the pity he felt for Beulah because Robert could never see what she looked like, read the expression on her face or receive the smallest compliment from her husband. When Robert arrived in his house, the speaker began his transformation. It began immediately upon seeing Robert with his wife, his eyes drawn to the smile Robert had placed on her face. The speaker witnessed the depth of conversation Robert had with his wife, as if he wasn t even in the room, and it seemed to spark some jealousy. Most of the changes that the speaker underwent in his understanding of Robert were because he realized that Robert was normal. The speaker was surprised to see a beard on a blind man. The article did have links to other articles within the magazine based on key words such as education, community, academic achievement, and family. The citations appear to be outdated because some of the data used is over ten years old. Even though the article is five years old, I would state that the information is outdated. Often, the decision making requires not just the overall completion of the project, but the opinions of the people who are working on the project. When we worked on a mural for a local elementary school, I had to help organize what we wanted to do for our mural. Many of us had good ideas, but we couldn t possibly implement them all in a small area; therefore, we had to decide what was good and what must be scrapped. It took communication to decide on what must be fixed, and the mural was completed through the efforts and sacrifice of all the members of the club. • 16. Cleisthenes As An Opportunist Cleisthenes was the Athenian politician setting the stage of democracy around c.520 BC and to c.400 BC. An opportunist is defined by Oxford dictionaries as: A person who takes advantage of opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principle . For many, this sums up the rule of Cleisthenes as he took advantage of the anti tyrannical movement and of the power he was given to improve the position of himself and his Alcmaeonid family. However, this essay will argue that although Cleisthenes did take advantage of opportunities, he was ultimately very principled in nature and was actually a reactionist. This is to say that he reacted to problems and events that occurred and dealt with them the best he could, rather than taking advantage of the opportunity to better himself, the elite classes or his family. To many, Cleisthenes was simply an opportunist. One way he can be said to be opportunistic is during his rise to power. This idea has stemmed from the ancient Greek author Herodotus, and in parts Aristotle as well. On the whole, these are two ancient authors with semi opposing views, with Herodotus being a stronger source for stating Cleisthenes was an opportunist. The main reason most historians believe that Cleisthenes was an opportunist is because of the account from Herodotus histories. The account is as follows: these two [Isagoras and Cleisthenes] were rivals for power, and Cleisthenes, who was getting the worst of it, took the people into his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A collaboration of this scale allows for the brand to share logistics of this machinery between the brands, while still allowing for competition in sales of its distinctive vehicles. Results Dating back to 2013, the two automotive manufactures began discussing ideas of collaborating on an automatic transmission (Rosevear, 2016). The two brands began the collaboration in 2016 (Rosevear, 2016) on this project, as it would save millions over the combined sales between the two companies, rather than front the cost of developing individual parts. Most automotive brands source this part from a German company ZF Friedrichshafen (Rosevear, 2016), to save cost on producing a complex piece of mechanics for their automobiles. The logistics required to manufacture as well as supply this complex part of an automobile pose a massive cost in the industry. Furthermore, automobiles manufactured at multiple locations across the globe share this similar part, manufacturing it separately at each location poses many additional unwanted supply chain processes. By consolidating transmission production between Ford and General Motors, the logistics operation significantly downsizes for the two brands. • 21. Analysis Of Dorothy Allison s Bastards Out Of Carolina As a society we often judge or form opinions based on others according to their gender, race and class; this is called stereotyping. Stereotyping involves making generalizations to describe or differentiate a group. Stereotypes are harmful to women and their experiences, because they can cause bad decision making that can lead to negative outcomes. Anney Boatwright in Dorothy Allison s novel Bastards Out of Carolina is heavily burdened by the stereotype of being identified as white trash, which leads her to making unorthodox decisions regarding her family in hope of breaking free of this white trash stereotype. Stereotypes are destructive in the shaping of individuals lives, because they make us disregard differences between individuals. Since stereotypes are everywhere and they are impossible to escape Anney finds herself conforming to gender stereotypes in order to try to rid herself of this white trash stereotype. Gender stereotyping plays a major role in the white trash stereotype that is both racialized and classed. This gender stereotype of women needing a man in their life is taught from birth. In traditional white families both parents are usually in their children s life, the women are typically stay at home mothers that take care of the cooking and cleaning, the men have white collar jobs and they typically live a privileged lifestyle, but since Anney is the exact opposite of this she is stereotyped as white trash. • 22. Petrified Wood 2. Background on the mineralogical composition of petrified woods A diverse suite of minerals and phases have been found in petrified woods from all over the world. The common species found range from pure opal to pure quartz whereas others include calcite, dolomite, pyrite, goethite, phosphates (apatite), laumontite, uraninite, sphalerite and organics (Nowak et al., 2005). In coal deposits inundated by sea water (Yossifova et al., 2011), the woods can be permineralized by quartz, plagioclase, muscovite, smectite, kaolinite and nacrite (a typical hydrothermal mineral). Cross polarized light shows that opal CT has very low interference colours, in contrast to the brighter colours typical of chalcedony (Mustoe, 2008). However, polarizing microscope images alone cannot resolve the degree of crystallinity of phases. For this, XRD and Raman microscopy are required to clearly identify chalcedony, moganite, orthorhombic silica, opal CT, opal C and quartz (HatipoÄŸlu and Türk, 2009). It is not easy to ... These results confirm the earlier conclusions of Heaney and Davis (1995) and Götze et al. These factories have gained media attention and controversy for the long hours and low pay given to the workers. Many people say to boycott these factories because of the latter reasons, but consumers shouldn t boycott companies that make sweatshop products. The first reason consumers shouldn t boycott these products would be people actually deliberately take these jobs because in developing countries most jobs don t pay that much. The second reason consumers shouldn t boycott sweatshop products would be that it allows a lot of people in the developing worlds to rise out of poverty. To summarize, consumers do not have the ethical responsibility to boycott products made in sweatshops. As stated in the previous paragraph, people actually take these jobs willingly because in ... Another main point of their argument is that conditions in these factories are abusive and horrible. However, again many people take these jobs willingly meaning that they really don t care about these conditions because they need money. Finally they believe that boycotting sweatshops will do something good for the world. The first thing I did was walk around and find the other classrooms. I spotted my friends and ran towards them. I gave them a big hug and I started talking to them. Once they called my classroom to get up for lunch I had to leave them. I went up and got lunch and then sat by myself. Two other people needed seats, so they moved to my side and sat with me. I kept quiet until it was time for recess. I went out with my friends and we chased eachother around. Soon we had to go back to our classrooms and finish our day. • 28. Common Representations Of Nordic Culture Common Representations of Nordic Culture and Surrounding Ideologies Through Linguistic Features in Recent Animated Films In many animated films, accents are used to demonize villains, set characters apart from the group, highlight strangeness, or add to the setting of the film. Then why is that a more standard American accent used for main characters as apposed to the Nordic or pseudo Nordic accents of the supporting roles? In this paper, we will look at the ways in which Scandinavians are portrayed in Disney s Frozen and DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon franchise by comparing the traits of those with accents to those without. Across American animated media representations of Nordic culture, the protagonist and their friends speak with a standard American accent. For example, in the How to Train Your Dragon films, Hiccup and his friends are portrayed with out a heavy accent, which stands in strong relief to the voicing of other characters such as Stoick and Gobber. Hiccup, voiced by Jay Baruchel, is made to stand out from the other Vikings as well as to be made more relatable to the films predominately American audience. The use of accented voicing for characters such as Stoick and Gobber, voiced by Gerard Butler and Craig Freguson, respectively, is likely intended mainly to create the atmosphere for the film but also indexes them as hyper masculine Vikings. Allison Millican, a strong young lady, has been through many major life changing events growing up. No child would ever think of nor wish upon him/herself the series of events she has been through. These events affected her state of mind plus the choices she made for every important situation, for the rest of her life. This childhood trauma led to depression as well as anxiety, however, it all started the day her parents finalized their divorce. As a very young child, Allison lived in a strict, conservative home with morals and a firm belief that once married, always married; divorce is simply giving up and not giving your all. She lived in a home that went to church every sunday,in addition stayed to themselves about personal conflicts like any conservative family would ordinarily do. As time went on those morals started to fade. What was once a happy marriage turned into an emotional, high strung marriage. Allison, being so young, didn t remember much of what happened, nevertheless she knew that matters were changing. Ironically, the conservative family with morals divided, leading to the start of a brand new life Allison could never be prepared for. After the divorce, Allison s living situation went back and forth like a game of tug of war. One week she stayed with her father then the next she was with her mother. As one can imagine, it was very hard on her having to transition every week, not to mention the new habit her mother picked up. As a result, he had totally forgotten about her own daughter, also all of her attention turned towards something else. Allison felt as if she couldn t go to her father because of his bussiness with a new girlfriend along with his work schedule.
