Hitler Appeasement Research Paper
Appeasement was thought to be a way of keeping Germany at bay, however, it was proven to be an
ineffective policy as subsequently, war broke out in 1939. Appeasement was a major contributor to
World War 2 as it allowed Hitler to build his military power until it was strong enough to fight a world
scale war. In addition, appeasement emboldened Germany, as the allies never wanted to succumb to
yet another war. Hitler was aware that the appeasement policy was a massive compromise to Hitler,
and in someways a plead not to begin another war. Hitler used this leverage to his advantage, taking
steps that eventually led to the most devastating war of our time.
The rise of political extremism was extremely volatile in Italy. Mussolini s rise to power ... Show more

The social distress saw many protests, fights and rallies in the mid to late 30 s. An anarchist
government was also formed at one stage. Franco saw Nazi Germany as a superpower awaiting to flex
its muscles and wanted the Germans on their side. Using many tactics seen by Mussolini and Hitler,
Franco empowered the nation by simmering the large divide within the country. His fascist ideology
made him come across as a nationalistic and empowering leader, much like the other two Fascist
governments residing in Europe. The Spanish Civil War of 1936 1939 was an armed conflict between
left wing Republicans and far right Fascist Nationalists, led by Francisco Franco. The Republicans
were in alliance with the Anarchists, Communists and Second Spanish Republic while the Nationalists
had the support of the Falangist, Carlist Catholic s, all led by Franco. Franco was fighting for the
overthrowing of the left wing government, the Second Spanish Republic and the establishment of a
military dictatorship. The war is commonly referred a fight between democracy and fascism. In
September of 1936, an intervention pact was signed by 27 countries. This pact meant that once signed,
none of these countries will provide any assistance to either side. Among the 27 countries were
Britain, France, the Soviet Union, Germany and Italy. However soon after the pact, many of these
countries began to provide an international element to the war. The Communist Soviets provided
military assistance to the Republicans, along with Mexico. The Nationalists also had the assistance of
international countries, the biggest being Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. The war ended in a
Nationalist victory. Franco established a Fascist Militaristic Dictatorship Government in

Analysis Of Billy Budd By Herman Melville
The novella Billy Budd by Herman Melville is a 1924 sea story that has underlying allusions to Christ
and the bible as pointed out by many critics. Many have found that Billy s life resembles the plight of
Christ, as well as Adam, while Captain Vere is meant to stand as God, and Claggart is left as the role
of Satan. These underlying character molds ultimately contribute to the novella as a whole and explore
the dilemmas of their Bible counterparts. William Billy Budd has been described as a Christ like
character. His physical appearance remains to be a focus throughout, and his perfection is, ultimately,
what attracts all the sailors to him. Billy has an innocence to him that many on the ship have lost.
However, nothing is perfect as it seems, as Billy s flaws lead to his demise. Billy s stutter, as well as
his childlike mentality when it comes to aggravated situations show that while God can create
seemingly perfect beings, Satan and evil also have their say and play a crucial part. Billy s death in the
novella can be considered a mirrored image of Christ s death in the bible. Even their last words bear a
sense of forgiveness. Billy s final God Bless Captain Vere! , (page 86), is very similar to Christ s,
Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Billy s final exclamation results in a lack of
wavering faith and, almost, forgiveness for Captain Vere s condemning William to death. Additionally,
as written in chapter 27, Melville compares Billy to

The Assessment And The Myers Briggs Type Indicator
Motivation is a subject that researchers, practitioners, and organizations have spent an unprecedented
amount of money on researching, assessing, modeling and working to understand human behavior and
performance. With all the research, there is not a quick answer or even full agreement as to what
exactly motivates individuals to be successful. The extensive amount of research has included studies
across a variety of work settings and at the level of the individual, the group, and the organization
leaving us with many theories to explore. Researchers have identified and agreed upon that individual
behavior and personality relate to individual performance. I am no different.
PERSONALITY
Based on the Keirsey assessment and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MTBI), my results showed
that I am a Guardian Provider on the Keirsey scale and typed a E(S)NJF with the Myers Briggs model.
I am extroverted (E) in that I enjoy interacting with everyone. I am not one to keep things to myself,
especially if I am excited or worried about the content. I believe I show charisma in both my private
and business life. I have a way of making people feel warm and fuzzy with my intimate personal
communication style. (N/S) I have people tell me their stories in the grocery line, the dentist and even

New Technology from 1945s to 2000
INTRODUCTION
The post World War II era provided new opportunities for the people of United States to explore and
develop new technologies which changed the United States dramatically; for example, a treatment for
polio, space exploration, introduction to computer, advancement in weapons industry, auto industry,
and color television etc. With all the technological advancements, how did technology change United
States? The paper will discuss the technological changes that happened in each era since 1945s to
2000. The paper will give each decade s most important technological inventions and changes;
additionally, changes in people s lives and what were positive or negatives impact in society, politics,

This was the main technological change because the way American people spend money completely
changed and the spending increased which gave boost to the economy for the coming decades.
TECHNOLOGY IN THE FIFTIES (1950 1959) The 1950s or The Fifties was a decade that was full
of events that gave new ideas and inventions. The decade was prosperous for the American people and
entrepreneurs because the economy was booming. However, as the economy was booming still they
were major conflicts associated with United States internally in the country and externally. For
example, some of the biggest conflicts were the Cold War between the Soviet Union, clashes between
communism and capitalism, Korean War, Red Scare (fear of communism) in United States. Still with
all those conflicts, in United States the progress in science and technology was on peak.
Arguably, the first greatest and most influential invention of the 20th century the Television publicly
placed for sale in markets in 1940s had originally made real maturity in the 1950s. People started to
buy large screen television sets because in the 40s there were only small television screens. In 1952,
RCA introduced the CTC 1, the first color television to utilize the NTSC (National Television System
Committee) video standard. The introductions were still too expensive for most people in that decade;

Non Stick Grilling
Using these non stick grilling mats is easy. You can use in almost any cooking situation, and on almost
any surface. The thin sheet is meant to completely cover the metal grate in order to provide a flat, stick
proof surface for cooking. They are ideal for shrimp and veggies, but they can also make cooking
regular foods easier too.
1. After turning on your grill, or knocking down the fire, ensure that the metal grate is in position.
2. Place a single mat over the grilling surface, or use two next to each other for larger grills.
3. Do not layer, and maintain a single thickness. Either side of the mat may face up because they are
totally reversible.
4. Once the mat is in place, apply food and cook like normal.
5. As with other non stick cookware,

Hunger, By Christina Rossetti
Hunger plays an important role in every person s life. Everyone experiences hunger in one way or
another, whether it be physical or even mental/emotional states of hunger and longing. In Goblin
Market by Christina Rossetti, hunger takes on an atypical but major part in the poem. The role of
hunger in Goblin Market is much more than solely physical hunger; rather, it is representative of
desperate and harmful longing in a never ending cycle of desire for more shown through various
elements of the language used in the poem. The poem begins with goblin men describing the fruits
they are selling while two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, unsuccessfully attempt to avoid them. The sisters
keep their distance from the goblin men while they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the poem continues, Laura s hunger only grows more intense. She looks up at the goblin men as
they entice her and repeatedly tell her to come buy their fruits. Lizzie tells her not to fall into their
trap, but Curious Laura chose to linger (69). The words curiosity and linger show that Laura s hunger
has not yet become strong, as she is only beginning to become interested at this point. In other words,
they depict that Laura is slowly becoming drawn in by the goblin men; it wasn t an immediate switch
from completely uninterested to strong desire. While she is not eagerly pursuing the goblin men, she is
lingering around them and isn t actively avoiding them anymore. She wonders what their gifts are and
will do for her, so she stays around longer than she should. If Rossetti omitted or changed the words
curious or linger, the meaning of this line would greatly differ. As Laura realizes cannot have their
fruits, she only becomes more engrossed by them as her hunger grows immensely.
By the time Laura makes the decision to purchase the fruits from the goblins, her hunger has grown so
rapidly and strongly for the fruits that she is willing to give up a nearly priceless part of herself to
experience their taste. The goblins tell her that because she has no money, she must give up a lock of
her golden hair. While this upsets her and she sheds a tear, she does not

As the message arrives at the end of the nerves, the message is transmitted to the muscles. Before the
message is transmitted to the muscles it has to pass the space between the end of the nerve and the
muscle, and that space is called neuromuscular junction. The message is transmitted from the brain to
the end of the nerve and from the nerve to the neuromuscular junction, and when the message arrives
the chemical called neurotransmitters are released.
When acetylcholine reaches the muscles side of neuromuscular junction, it attaches and locks into
receptors. If anything interferes with these steps, the nerve will not be able to control muscle
contraction. When there is an interruption of normal communication between the nerves and the
muscles at the neuromuscular junction, myasthenia gravis occur. This interruption is caused by
antibodies that prevent acetylcholine from reaching muscle by destroying or blocking the receptors.
Figure 3: Symptoms
Myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscles. They may affect muscles that control the eyelid
movement, facial expression and swallowing. The most symptoms of myasthenia gravis that can be
noticed are the weakness of the eye muscle that causes double vision. Some symptoms of myasthenia
gravis may include unstable walk, arm weakness, weakness in hands, fingers, legs and neck, change in
facial expression, having a hard time swallowing, shortness of breath, and having problems with

Essay On Abnormality, Classification Systems And...
Definition of abnormality, classification systems and demographics of psychological disorders
The poster is going to outline the definition of abnormality and describe two diagnostic classification
systems whilst referencing the diagnostic criteria for Schizophrenia and an overlook of its subtype
catatonic schizophrenia.
An analysis of the validity, reliability, practicalities and ethical issues will be covered when referring
to the diagnostic classification systems and lastly the demographics and statistics surrounding
schizophrenia with reference to age, gender and ethnicity will be thoroughly examined
Statistical Infrequency
By using the statistical infrequency definition, a person s way of thinking or behaviour is classified as
abnormal if it is statistically unusual amongst a selected society. With this definition it is very
important to decide how statistically rare a behaviour or trait is before it is classified as abnormal. For
example a person who has a higher IQ level than the society s average is then classified as abnormal
but contrary to this a person would be highly regarded for their intelligence, this is due to the method
failing to identify the appeal of that certain trait (Cardwell, Clark and Meldrum, 2008).
As mentioned the definition ignores desirability of some behaviours and traits, it also does not take in
to account of cultural differences and it is not clear by how much a behaviour should deviate from
what s normal for it to be considered abnormal

Dangers Of Deforestation
Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment?
Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the rainforests
are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth s forests on a
massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available
for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove
from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest
causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small
farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and
burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and
subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which
provide the world s wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of
them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further
deforestation. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world s land area and extend throughout half
the size of most countries but, many are lost each year (Live Science).
Stopping deforestation can significantly address numerous challenges including the protection of
millions of animal and plant species, reducing global warming,

The Smithsonian Institution is an Independent Executive Agency under the United States government,
but was not always that. In the beginning, the primary building was the estate of a British scientist by
the name of James Smithson. In 1829, James Smithson passed away, and lest an unusual request in his
will. According to the Smithsonian s web page, this request was that his whole estate would be given
to the United States of America, to found at Washington, under the name of the Smithsonian
Institution, an Establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge. James had always been a
man fond of the sciences and he was a part of the Royal Society of London since age 22, and had

If anything, this may be one of the more justifiable agencies in government. The reasoning behind this
is somewhat large, as provides so many services. Not only does the institution serve as a free source of
knowledge and entertainment for the public, but it manages to shape the future of Americans by
preserving our heritage, discovering new knowledge, and sharing our resources with the world. In
fact, according to Clough, it s 4 grand challenges are understanding the American experience, valuing
world cultures, understanding and sustaining a biodiverse planet, and unlocking the mysteries of the
universe. The Smithsonian is evidently still relevant and important, and it will always be as it provides
something that no other can, not even the Internet. In addition to this, much of the money serves pay
its 6,500 plus employees and keep things up to date, in addition to helping the public learn and gain a
greater appreciation for our world. Lastly, this agency is not just looking to benefit the citizens in the
US, but people around the world through their extensive research and resources open to everyone and
anyone. It s is left up to us citizens if we want to take advantage of the amazing opportunities the

Deming, on the other hand, had a system he established using a fourteen point formula which
recognized the purpose toward improvement, leadership, and training, as well as taking actions to
ensure a successful process improvement.
Standards of Performance Crosby s performance standard consisted of having a zero defect approach,
which meant everyone involved (supplier and customer included) must understand. Crosby defined
zero defect as not being a literal zero defect (as that is not always possible), but rather producing
goods or services within agreed upon tolerances and requirements for quality and costs. Juran had a
four step formula when it came to performance standards: establish goals to be reached, establish
plans for these goals, meet the goals, and rewards based on results achieved. Deming had a process
called the Deming Wheel, which was an adaptation of the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, and Act) Problem
Solving Cycle. To break it down, Plan involved designing components to improve results, Do
employed the plan, Check evaluated the measurements, and Act made decisions based on the changes
needed to improve the process.
Quality Measurements Juran s perspective on quality was based on five general measures, the
measures being the cost of poor quality, defects, product/process features, customer needs, and
customer behavior. Deming s measurements were based on the Kaizen approach, which involved the
evaluation of each operation

Tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union in...
The Cold War was the name given to the time period from 1945 to 1991. After World War II, tensions
began between the United States and the Soviet Union. Fighting between the United States and Soviet
Union did not happen directly against each other. Instead they fought with arms races, space races, and
spying. Both superpowers set aside their differences to defeat Adolf Hitler, even before the war the
United States distrusted the Soviet Union. The United States disliked the way the Soviet Union ran
government. They believed that the Soviet Union wanted to overthrow the non communist
governments.
The Cold War was rising when a revolution in Russia occurred. One of the socialist majority parties,
the Bolsheviks overthrew the Czar, and it led to a communist government. The creation of the Union
of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) feared America that the Soviet Union challenged the democratic
values of the United States. President Woodrow Wilson saw that the Bolsheviks leader Vladimir
wanted to spread communism around the world. Wilson sent troops in 1919 to try to defeat the
revolutions.
Before World War II, Soviet troops occupied most of Eastern Europe. Stalin promised to hold free
elections in these Eastern European nations. Later he broke that promise. By 1948, Communists
controlled the governments of every Eastern country except Yugoslavia. In each country the Soviets
placed dictators.

Gaudi studied the natural form as a basis for his architectural detail and further considered this as the
spiritual basis of and for his designs. Gaudi wrote: Nature does not present us with uniformly
monotonous objects. Everything keeps its contrast, more or less, stemming from the vitality of the
colors (Alvarez 10).
The work of Antoni Gaudi falls under the movement of Modernism and therefore is wrapped in the
traits of exuberant forms, ornamentation, great attention to detail, vast use of plant motifs, and the
preference to curvilinear and asymmetrical line. Along with his attention to great detail Gaudi
integrated the use of ceramic tile, stained glass, wrought iron works and master crafted carpentry
which ultimately enhanced the unique innovative design concepts in which he became noted for.
Gaudi introduced new techniques to the architectural world such as trencadis, which is a type of
mosaic made of waste ceramic pieces and which is one of the design details incorporated throughout
his work, one example being the spires of the Sagrada Família. Gaudi s work always involved a
distinctive use of materials in particular the use of texture and color arrangement which was almost
always included along with his imaginative style using ornamental ironwork. His wrought iron
designs were arrived at independently and frequently in advance of the comparable experiments of
mainstream Art Nouveau (Arnason and Mansfield 101). Gaudi

Management Style Essay
Introduction
Today s paper is about management styles. I will discuss things; such as what management is and
what are the good and poor qualities of managers. In addition; do these conditions change based on
the social environment, work environment or home environment? Last, I will discuss the results of my
management quiz. This part of the discussion will focus on whether or not I agree or disagree with
those results.
What do you define as management?
Management equals having the ability to lead, plan, organize, control, make decisions, and direct
others in achieving an organization s goals and their mission. Managers perform many ... Show more

Do the qualities change based on different situations? It is my belief that these qualities do not change.
Leadership roles are all around us, not just in a work environment (SkillsYouNeed, 2015). They can be
applied to any situation where you are required to take the lead, professionally, socially and at home in
family settings (SkillsYouNeed, 2015). I do not feel that you can just dismiss these qualities whenever
you wish. However, I feel that you need to be able to adapt to whatever environment you find
yourself.
Do you agree with the results of your management quiz? I agree with the outcome of the exam. Taking
the test was an excellent experiment! It allowed me to see whether or not I would make a good
manager. According to the results, a managerial position would be in line with my personality. The test
result indicated that I had the ability to manage and govern myself. It lets me know; I have the
capacity to control and supervise others. As stated before if one can not govern one s self, it makes no
sense attempting to direct others. According to the exam; when it comes to managing my team s work
it states It sounds like you are getting your staff on the same page about goals and plans to achieve
them, delegating well, and ensuring results match what you are looking for (Management Center,
2015).
Conclusion
Today, I discussed management styles. I also explained things; such as what management is and what

How Is Power Portrayed In The Right Of Death By Michael...
In his book, Michael Foucault discusses the history of sexuality and the way in which power and
knowledge have played a role in the repression of sexuality. Despite historical statements, Michael
disagrees with the fact that power solely serves the purpose of repression. Rather he argues how power
and knowledge are both repressive and productive. In regards to power, in Part 5 of his book, Foucault
contrasts two claims of power. They are Right of Death and Power over Life. These were privileges of
power where the one in power was able to regulate and control what was going on in their society. The
Right of Death discussed the idea that if one were to commit any criminal act against the person in
power, then they would be punished

Failure Valuable Lessons
Failure a Valuable Lesson Failure can be one of the worst feelings after a person has tried so hard to
accomplish something. Sometimes it can be very hard to overcome and can even lead to a person
quitting something they re passionate about. Even though it seems terrible, failure is very valuable in
teaching a lesson. These lessons eventually lead to success which makes everything worth it in the
end. Failure has played a big role in my life and has effected me in both negative and positive ways.
Failure is so influential it can lead to people giving up on something they have worked hard on, this

Racial Stereotypes Of Muslims
Stereotypes is a fixed, over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people (Cardwell,
1966). Stereotypes are used to making interactions with new people easier. However, it also means
people forget differences of individuals and assumes based on generalization. Stereotypes eventually
leads to social categorization which creates prejudice towards groups. Racial stereotypes such as
described in Look, Mohammed the Terrorist is Coming! by Nadine Naber, they describe the
stereotypical Mohammed , an Arab or Middle Eastern Muslim man with a beard and brown or dark
complexion that usually fits the profile of a terrorist. It s not only Muslims who becomes victims of
this stereotype, majority of Middle Easterners, including Christians, Muslims, and even atheists, and
majority South Asians, including Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs. Another stereotype of Muslims that media
has constructed is around hijabis. Often if a Muslim woman is wearing a hijab, oppression,
conservative, traditionalism is associated with them. Rarely is it asked, was it your choice . Every
woman wearing a hijab may not have to option to chose to wear it or not, but often, it is the women s
individual decisions to decide to wear a hijab or not. Some will wear it when they feel they are ready,
some will wear it to be closer to God, and some will wear it as a step towards being religious. No
matter what the reason, it doesn t mean oppression, or being narrow minded. In every major religion,

though it was against her mother s wishes.5 But some women took it a step further: rather than just
watching the men fight for the Southern states, a few women decided to pick up a gun and join the
ranks.
It is not known how many women actually participated in battle; however, the number seems to be
higher than anyone expected. These women played the role of the warrior and literally gave up their
gender to fight. One such case is Amy Clark. She dressed like a man to serve in the Confederate army
with her husband. After his death, she continued her service and was wounded and captured by the
Union. Once the North discovered her true identity, they released her back into the Southern army and
insisted that she wear a dress. Some say that Amy Clark may have worn lieutenant s bars on her
uniform. Another women who dressed as a man to fight was Malenda Blalock, who posed as a brother
to her husband. Another southern female warrior was Madame

Type And Topology Of Lan
Type and topology of LAN
In the early beginnings of a Local Area Network consisted of mainframe computers and terminals.
Now networks consist of front ends which interface with the network, back ends take care of requests
by clients, clients are systems or applications that request services, Servers manage the network and its
resources, routers link the two or more networks together, and switches allow multiple computers on a
network interface to communicate. These are for small locations like an office building.
A Hybrid topology can incorporate multiple topologies to give it other routes to travel. They can use a
central hub or switch using the unshielded twisted pair Ethernet cables for the Star topology. They can
have a backbone network using the Fiber Distributed Data Interface or FDDI.
They can also use the Wireless topology using access points as part of the hybrid topology. This is a
great feature for both employees and customers. The range is up to 100 meters and is fast when
needing to access applications. It uses the 2.4 and 5 GHz band. It is also cheap and cost effective.
LAN cabling
The two types that can be use are the twisted pair and fiber optical cabling. There are two types of
twisted pair cables. They are shielded and unshielded Ethernet cables. They are copper wires being
twisted around to protect from emissions and noise. They are mainly used in an internal network or
office because it is cheaper and easier to install. They use an RJ45 connecter and

How Memories From The Brain Is Capable Of Retrieving...
Every time I learn the name of a student, I forget the name of a fish was once said by David Jordan,
the president of Stanford University (Anderson, Bjork Bjork, 2000). This statement is interesting
because it brings up the idea of the amount of information one can consume and maintain available at
any given time; this information is put into memory. Memory is the process of maintaining,
recovering, and applying information about episodes and events, when the original material is not
current (Goldstein, 2008, p. 136). This definition mean even if we have not just experience that
memory, our brain can go back in time and retrieve what has happened hours, days or years ago.
Retrieving memories from the brain is the process of relocating material from Long Term Memory
(LTM) back into working memory, where it becomes available through consciousness (Goldstein,
2008, p. 197). Our brain is capable of retrieving information because it has been encoded. Encoding is
the process of obtaining information then converting it into memories, in which goes onto our LTM
(Goldstein, 2008, p. 196). The main claim of this essay is that is that if a memory is encoded correctly,
then that is all that is needed for memory failure or success and the process of retrieving memories
also relies on the encoding of the memory. Meanwhile, this claim that encoding is all that is needed
for memory failure or success was researched by Craik and Lockhart (1972, as described by
Goldstein, 2008, p.

Summary Of Bonanza Episode Day Of Reckoning
Personal Analysis of Bonanza Episode Day of Reckoning I found in this episode countless
connections to what we have been learning in class in regards to the Native Americans and their
encounters with white men. In this particular episode, I observed examples of hostility between both
the white man and Native Americans. Similar to what we had learned in class about the constant
hostility that was present with many white men and Native Americans due to the white man
essentially taking over the Native American s land. I observed how the Native Americans slowly
became like the white man once he was brought into his home. This again reminded me of what we
had learned in class about how Native Americans were encouraged to take up farming, wear clothes
like white men, chop their long hair off to have it short representing the hair of the white men, cook
and prepare food like the white man and live in a home like the white man. These encouragements and
what the white man may have seen as examples of kindness and hospitality were actually uprooting
the Native Americans from their own culture. This is especially true for Matsou, who feels very
strongly about not taking up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I saw this especially with Hatoya as she often prayed and spoke about her faith. She explains to Ben

after she said this to Ben, he felt he could actually trust Hatoya and Matsou, I think he felt they shared
a connection on an important topic. This emphasis on religion was another topic we discussed in class.
We learned about how the white man s faith was heavily pushed upon the Native American people.
They were encouraged to abandon their own faith and believe solely in what the white man believed
in. This disconnected Native Americans from their culture as they had their own faith that they felt

Why The World Should Be A Bit More Scotland Summary
Why The World Should Be A Bit More Scottish
By Eilidh Elliot
Amongst the thick accents and the locks of ginger hair under a constant cover of rain lies a country
wrapped in tartan and populated with the boisterous clans of the Scots. Throughout centuries Scotland
has produced innovative ideas, accomplished writers and highly decorated athletes. The rolling hills
and the multiple munros and the great depths of the lochs scattered around northern scotland all add to
the natural beauty of the country. Even though the weather is bleak and miserable this just adds to the
character of the place. Here in this land of vast beauty live the world s greatest people the Scots!
In order to fully understand When you picture a scot you probably imagine a round, exuberant man
stomping down the road cladded fully in tartan, a ginger beard framing his face holding in one hand a
whisky and in the other a bagpipe. But that I m afraid it s simply just not true. Us scots aren t just what
the stereotypes claim. Despite that there is some truth behind them they don t define us, no small
amount of words can truly describe a true scot in all of their glory. One of the ... Show more content

Imagery In Gary Soto s Small Town With One Road
The poem, Small Town with One Road, by Gary Soto compares the life of the speaker from when he
was a child to the life he has as an adult. The speaker of the poem is a Mexican who lives in a poor
town where many of the people do manual labor to earn their income. At this point he is grown and
has a daughter, but is in a town that reminds him of his childhood. Here, he describes the happy
children in the neighborhood to the hard life he imagines he would have if he stayed in such a town in
his adulthood. Soto uses imagery to further this comparison; he appeals to the senses to show the
carefreeness of childhood, while also using images of hard work to show the plight of the adults in the
town. Overall, Soto s use of imagery is successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that they live in the South, and throughout the poem it describes them living in Mexico.
Next, the children are going to pay for their candy with change and not paper money. While their
candy probably does not cost that much, this still implies that the children are not wealthy enough to
have dollar bills that they can go pay and get change back for. Another example of the children not
being wealthy is, Where there s a dog for each hand, Cats, chickens in the yard . Something that Soto
is trying to point out with his use of imagery is that even though the children do not have much
money, they lives are still very good to them. While to adults, having lots of animals or living on a
farm may allude to poverty, to children it means fun and lots of animals to play with. On the other
hand, the imagery in the next half of the poem that Soto uses about adults is much more serious and
sad than the imagery he has used for the children. A first example is The cotton gin stands tall in the
money dream . This visual imagery is in reference to to picking cotton, or agriculture in general.
Agricultural jobs are common among poor Mexican workers and are probably one of the only ways
that many believe they can really earn money. In this second half of the poem, the author s use of
imagery is mainly featured around jobs and money. A second example of imagery when the speaker is

Reflection About Culture
We live in a world that is more sedentary. Our contents of our world are available for purchase with
the swipe of a finger. If you are hungry you no longer need to go shopping or visit a restaurant. If you
are lonely you don t need to attend a party or visit family. If you need a new pair of shoes or a book
for college, you don t need to visit the mall or local bookstore. All of these things are sitting in your
little electronic device. The sustenance, social interaction or bauble you desire is just on the other side.
There is no need to point fingers or assign blame, it is just our evolving culture and it has some
growing pains. The best we can do it look for ways to improve our lot in life and capitalize on what is
a weakness and make it a strength. As our culture becomes less active we see more physical and health
reflections of inactive lifestyles. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease and more are lurking in the corners of
each and every life in our society. It may be a family member or a friend but it touches everyone. The
challenge is to make the chore of activity less of a chore and more of a recreation. Athletics and
physical activity look like work and the perception is, if it looks like work, it is work. Mark Twain s
character Tom Sawyer discovered Work consists of whatever a body is obliged to do, and that play
consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do. The interactive virtual reality world is a fruit ripe for

At Land Maya Deren
At Land (1944) is an experimental fifteen minute silent film written, directed and starring Maya
Deren. Composer John Cage and poet film critic Parker Tyler were also involved in making the film.
It deconstructs narrative conventions and experiments with film techniques. It has a dream like
narrative in which a woman played by Deren, is washed up on a beach, like a fish and goes on an
unfamiliar passage encountering other people and other versions of herself. Throughout the film there
s lots of going through, climbing up, down, through. Deren is clearly searching for something; her
expressions are often confused and hopeless. This film is open to multiple readings and interpretations
but I believe the film depicts the tensions between self and society. Throughout the film Deren

Pros And Cons Of The First Colonial War
The development of an American military tradition, predates the American Revolution, and is rooted
in England s Colonial Wars that dated between 1689 to 1763. The four colonial wars that occurred
during this period were the following: War of the League of Augsburg (1689 1697), War of the
Spanish Succession (1701 1713), War of the Austrian Succession (1744 1748), Great War for the

An Analysis Of Peter Stanley s Dead Wrong
I strongly believe that Dead Wrong should be selected for study for all year eight students at Mater
Maria Catholic College. This statement roots from effective utilisation of appropriate language, given
that the target audience is year eights with constantly expanding knowledge of the surrounding world.
This is also due to the encapsulation of themes within the novel that are perfectly fitted to year eights
at Mater Maria. The success of this novel is also illuminated through crime fiction conventions, which
are composed to broaden the students knowledge and understanding of the genre and what is required
to construct a plot under the genre of crime fiction. Having assembled these points, I will now outline
why Peter Stanley s Dead Wrong should be selected as the novel of year eight study with literary
evidence.
My first point as to why Dead Wrong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In actuality the struggle of finding a novel with the use of themes suitable for the particular year group
is definitely not a trouble free task. Dead Wrong makes use of the most suitable combination of
gruelling or advanced themes for year eight responders through the perfect interval of literary
elements. Themes prominent within the novel are suspense, tension and not jumping to conclusions.
These themes aid in portraying the mature aspect of the novel and assisting with the students growing
knowledge. The quote Wilson got up, chased and charged at him again, slashing him across the body
once more before Sweeney could raise his gun. implies that the novel uses fairly gruesome language
reflecting the target audience. Having used this language, year eights would advance in their English
and writing skills due to the newfound knowledge of language techniques and age level appropriation.
This makes Dead Wrong the best choice for year eight and should definitely be chosen by all year

Evaluation Essay On Corvettes
Abstract
This paper is an evaluative look at why the Chevrolet Corvette is one of the greatest sports cars in the
world. Sports cars can be judged in three areas; cost, performance, and comfort, each area will be
evaluated as to why these criteria are important, with examples shown to for definition. The Corvette
will be shown how it compares in regards to the measurements, and in some cases exceeds them.

The Chevrolet Corvette: A great sports car

Stopping, just as important as acceleration the ability to slow or stop quickly and safely are important
traits of performance, this can be indicated by braking distance from a certain speed, where a shorter
stopping distance is more desirable measure of performance. The Corvettes performance shows that it
fits the great sports car mold. Speed, power and the ability to hug the road, are all part of the
experience of driving a truly great sports car. The Corvette delivers in all these areas, it has a 0 60
MPH time of less than 5 seconds, and a time of slightly less than 14 seconds in the quarter mile. In the
525 foot slalom test an average speed of 47.9 mph was obtained. On the skid pad the Corvette is able
to obtain 0.96 lateral g s (Stewart, 2007). The Corvette s stopping power is noted in its ability to come
to a complete stop from 60 miles per hour in only 125 feet (Mueller, 1998). These performance
measures may not be used in everyday driving, but the ability to stop quickly in an emergency
situation is apparent, as is having enough acceleration to merge onto a busy highway, with the
performance the Corvette has, these everyday tasks can be accomplished effortlessly and safely.
Comfort, when most people think of older sports cars, comfort is not one of the things that come to
mind. Small, no top, hard to steer, loud, these are the things that older cars such as the first generation

Women s Rights Of The Civil Rights Movement
Decades after the National Women s Party pushed for the passage of their proposed Equal Rights
Amendment, feminists of the 1960s and 70s rallied once again for this change in the Constitution. The
amendment, simply stating that, Equality of rights under the law shall not be abridged by the United
States or any State on account of sex, quickly gained popularity among activists in the 1970s. This
support was not surprising, as this decade was a time of great change and protest. Feminist felt that
just as African Americans were gaining civil rights, women, too, should be considered as equals to
their counterparts. Women Right s leaders such as Alice Paul and Gloria Steinem pushed for the
passage of such major legislation. With support from Women s Right s groups such as the National
Organization of Women, the amendment quickly made its way to Congress. The bill passed first in the
House of Representatives in 1970, and then two years later, it passed in the Senate. As all amendments
are passed, the votes then continued into the states. In order to be added to the constitution, the ERA
needed to gain the support of thirty eight states. Within one year, twenty two states ratified the
amendment. The radical pace of the passage was promising and activists were certain that in the seven
year time span Congress allotted for state ratification, the bill would be passed. Momentum slowed,
however, when organized opposition came from an unlikely source. Phyllis Schlafly led a

For humans, drinking water is a biological necessity. As with any resource, however, access to water is
often limited. This is based on a combination of circumstances constructing water as an economically
based, commodified resource. The control, regulation, and treatment of water by political bodies
determines who has access to the resource. In the United States, this results in the interaction of
Municipal, State, and Federal branches of government. The interaction of these bodies as related to the
governance of water depends upon the prioritization of drinking water for the people. Ultimately, the

Given the appropriate circumstances, it strengthens powers to the federal government in the event
standards are violated. This involves the direct action, such as providing bottled water to citizens
(Tiemann 2017). Previously, support of the states in water control took the form of grant allocations. It
was difficult to enforce or act upon the Water Pollution Control Act without concrete standards
outlined in the Clean Water Act or the Safe Drinking Water Act. Since then, there has been minimal
attention to Clean water in the U.S. legal system. Subsequent legislation has addressed primarily non
potable sources.
Within the international community, drinking water is considered a right by the United Nations. On

Recognizes the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential

This is the environment in which U.S. policy behaves.

Lincoln is one of the champions of human life and dignity. He is one of the presidents in the US.
Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War its bloodiest war and its greatest moral,
constitutional, and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened
the federal government, and modernized the economy.By the 1850s, slavery was still legal in the
southern United States, but had been generally outlawed in the northern states, including Illinois,
whose original 1818 Constitution forbade slavery, as required by the Northwest Ordinance. Lincoln
disapproved of slavery, and the spread of slavery to new U.S. territory in the west. On October 16,

Independence never intended to say all were equal in color, size, intellect, moral developments, or
social capacity , but they did consider all men created equal equal in certain inalienable rights, among
which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness .After the state Republican party convention
nominated him for the U.S. Senate in 1858, Lincoln delivered his House Divided Speech, drawing on
Mark 3:25. He said that ahouse divided against it couldn t stand. The speech created an evocative
image of the danger of disunion caused by the slavery debate, and rallied Republicans across the

Same Sex Australia
For centuries, same sex couples have been scrutinised and marginalised based on their sexual
orientation, however, over recent decades, movements established by same sex couples have enticed
the Australian Government to equate specific rights and privileges between homo and heterosexual

Christian portion of Australia, whom of which strongly oppose the concept of homosexuality.

Preparation Of Scarification And Stratification
Started this experiment on February 25th and we gathered all our results on May 3rd 2016. When we
started we tested Redbuds in 4 treatments and tested Peaches in 3 treatments. For the Redbuds, we did
a control group with nothing but wrapping it with a paper towel and storing it into a Ziploc bag. Then
we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with sulfuric acid with promix
(not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist promix. For peaches we also had
a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for the second lot we placed that seeds in
moist promix in a cooler. Finally, for the third lot we soaked the seeds in water for a week and added
moist promix and then placed in the cooler. As a result, to this experiment of scarification and
stratification we have seen that lot 3 for Redbuds (scarification) germinated 16/40, which is a good
amount of germination. For stratification with the peaches only lot 2 germinated 1/20 which was more
than the other lots.
Introduction:
Scarification in botany involves weakening, opening, or otherwise altering the coat of a seed to
encourage germination. Scarification is often done mechanically, thermally, and chemically. The seeds
of many plant species are often impervious to water and gases, thus preventing or delaying
germination. Any process designed to make the testa (seed coat) more permeable to water and gases
(and thus more likely to germinate) is known as scarification.

novel takes a sharp turn. This is particularly shown in her earlier conversations with The Reverend
Mother. You were told to only bear daughters to the Atreides...And you in your pride thought you
could produce the Kwisatz Haderach! Jessica lifted her chin. I sensed the possibility...You re not
infallible, Jessica said. She braved the steady stare from the old eyes. (Herbert 35) Jessica was
instructed to have a daughter in the Bene Gesserit tradition, but she refused and maintained her free
will. She also demonstrates her Bene Gesserit powers towards the beginning of their descent into the
natural world of the Fremen. She saw them grow tense, knowing that in this instant they were
convinced of the need to fight over her. Their disagreement required no other reason. In their minds,

Nuclear Power And The Chernobyl Disaster
The Chernobyl Disaster was not meant to happen at all, what was supposed to happen was an
experiment to see if the reactor s own electrical needs could be supplied by a freewheeling turbine in
the event of a power outage, but the experiment did not go as it was planned. This experiment gone
wrong caused so much radiation sickness to the people, which lead to death by sickness, or death by
cancer. The people who lived ended up having children with many mutations and disabilities. The
Soviet Union wanted to hide the fact this never happened, so they released false information about the
disaster to the public not realizing the many after effects this would have on the world, the people and
the environment. Nuclear power plants may create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first part of the five basic parts to a nuclear reactor starts with the core which holds the Uranium
fuel. As there are many different types of reactors each core holds a different type of Uranium. For
some examples, a heavy water reactor uses natural Uranium, which 0.7% is Uranium 235, while light
water reactors use Uranium that has been enriched, so that Uranium 235 makes up around 3 5% of the
total. The next part of the reactor is the moderator, now the moderator is a light material such as water.
The water will allow the neutrons to be slowed down without being captured. The benefit of slowing
down these fast neutrons during fission is it can increase their efficiency by causing further fission.
Control Rods are made up of materials that can absorb neutrons, such as silver, boron, indium,
hafnium, or cadmium. These are introduced into the reactor to reduce the number of neutrons and thus
stop the fission process when required to stop. Another use of the rods is to control the level and
distribution of power in the reactor. Next part of the reactor is the coolant. The coolant is the fluid that
circulates through the reactor core. This absorbs and transfers heat that is produced by nuclear fission.
Also at the same time, it maintains the temperature of the fuel within the acceptable limits. The final
part the nuclear reactor is the

HONOUR IS AN IMPORTANT VALUE OF THE CHARACTERS IN THE PLAY. WHICH
CHARACTERS IN PARTICULAR BELIEVE THAT HONOUR IS AN IMPORTANT THEME IN
THE PLAY?
Honour is a very important in this play, specially for Eddie and Marco, who are the alpha males of the
house more or less, because Eddie is from the beginning the boss at his house, but when he threatens

Rodolpho is another character that is kind of linked with the theme of honour, he is the one that takes

  • 2. Hitler Appeasement Research Paper Appeasement was thought to be a way of keeping Germany at bay, however, it was proven to be an ineffective policy as subsequently, war broke out in 1939. Appeasement was a major contributor to World War 2 as it allowed Hitler to build his military power until it was strong enough to fight a world scale war. In addition, appeasement emboldened Germany, as the allies never wanted to succumb to yet another war. Hitler was aware that the appeasement policy was a massive compromise to Hitler, and in someways a plead not to begin another war. An anarchist government was also formed at one stage. Franco saw Nazi Germany as a superpower awaiting to flex its muscles and wanted the Germans on their side. Using many tactics seen by Mussolini and Hitler, Franco empowered the nation by simmering the large divide within the country. His fascist ideology made him come across as a nationalistic and empowering leader, much like the other two Fascist governments residing in Europe. The Spanish Civil War of 1936 1939 was an armed conflict between left wing Republicans and far right Fascist Nationalists, led by Francisco Franco. The Republicans were in alliance with the Anarchists, Communists and Second Spanish Republic while the Nationalists had the support of the Falangist, Carlist Catholic s, all led by Franco. Franco was fighting for the overthrowing of the left wing government, the Second Spanish Republic and the establishment of a military dictatorship. The war is commonly referred a fight between democracy and fascism. In September of 1936, an intervention pact was signed by 27 countries. This pact meant that once signed, none of these countries will provide any assistance to either side. Among the 27 countries were Britain, France, the Soviet Union, Germany and Italy. However soon after the pact, many of these countries began to provide an international element to the war. The Communist Soviets provided military assistance to the Republicans, along with Mexico. The Nationalists also had the assistance of international countries, the biggest being Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. The war ended in a Nationalist victory. • 3. Analysis Of Billy Budd By Herman Melville The novella Billy Budd by Herman Melville is a 1924 sea story that has underlying allusions to Christ and the bible as pointed out by many critics. Many have found that Billy s life resembles the plight of Christ, as well as Adam, while Captain Vere is meant to stand as God, and Claggart is left as the role of Satan. These underlying character molds ultimately contribute to the novella as a whole and explore the dilemmas of their Bible counterparts. William Billy Budd has been described as a Christ like character. His physical appearance remains to be a focus throughout, and his perfection is, ultimately, what attracts all the sailors to him. Billy has an innocence to him that many on the ship have lost. However, nothing is perfect as it seems, as Billy s flaws lead to his demise. Billy s stutter, as well as his childlike mentality when it comes to aggravated situations show that while God can create seemingly perfect beings, Satan and evil also have their say and play a crucial part. Billy s death in the novella can be considered a mirrored image of Christ s death in the bible. Even their last words bear a sense of forgiveness. Billy s final God Bless Captain Vere! , (page 86), is very similar to Christ s, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Billy s final exclamation results in a lack of wavering faith and, almost, forgiveness for Captain Vere s condemning William to death. Additionally, as written in chapter 27, Melville compares Billy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti, hunger takes on an atypical but major part in the poem. The role of hunger in Goblin Market is much more than solely physical hunger; rather, it is representative of desperate and harmful longing in a never ending cycle of desire for more shown through various elements of the language used in the poem. She looks up at the goblin men as they entice her and repeatedly tell her to come buy their fruits. Lizzie tells her not to fall into their trap, but Curious Laura chose to linger (69). The words curiosity and linger show that Laura s hunger has not yet become strong, as she is only beginning to become interested at this point. In other words, they depict that Laura is slowly becoming drawn in by the goblin men; it wasn t an immediate switch from completely uninterested to strong desire. While she is not eagerly pursuing the goblin men, she is lingering around them and isn t actively avoiding them anymore. She wonders what their gifts are and will do for her, so she stays around longer than she should. If Rossetti omitted or changed the words curious or linger, the meaning of this line would greatly differ. As Laura realizes cannot have their fruits, she only becomes more engrossed by them as her hunger grows immensely. By the time Laura makes the decision to purchase the fruits from the goblins, her hunger has grown so rapidly and strongly for the fruits that she is willing to give up a nearly priceless part of herself to experience their taste. For instance, every year the rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world s wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further deforestation. • 24. How Memories From The Brain Is Capable Of Retrieving... Every time I learn the name of a student, I forget the name of a fish was once said by David Jordan, the president of Stanford University (Anderson, Bjork Bjork, 2000). This statement is interesting because it brings up the idea of the amount of information one can consume and maintain available at any given time; this information is put into memory. Memory is the process of maintaining, recovering, and applying information about episodes and events, when the original material is not current (Goldstein, 2008, p. 136). This definition mean even if we have not just experience that memory, our brain can go back in time and retrieve what has happened hours, days or years ago. Retrieving memories from the brain is the process of relocating material from Long Term Memory (LTM) back into working memory, where it becomes available through consciousness (Goldstein, 2008, p. 197). Our brain is capable of retrieving information because it has been encoded. Encoding is the process of obtaining information then converting it into memories, in which goes onto our LTM (Goldstein, 2008, p. 196). The main claim of this essay is that is that if a memory is encoded correctly, then that is all that is needed for memory failure or success and the process of retrieving memories also relies on the encoding of the memory. Meanwhile, this claim that encoding is all that is needed for memory failure or success was researched by Craik and Lockhart (1972, as described by Goldstein, 2008, p. ... • 27. Imagery In Gary Soto s Small Town With One Road The poem, Small Town with One Road, by Gary Soto compares the life of the speaker from when he was a child to the life he has as an adult. The speaker of the poem is a Mexican who lives in a poor town where many of the people do manual labor to earn their income. At this point he is grown and has a daughter, but is in a town that reminds him of his childhood. Here, he describes the happy children in the neighborhood to the hard life he imagines he would have if he stayed in such a town in his adulthood. Soto uses imagery to further this comparison; he appeals to the senses to show the carefreeness of childhood, while also using images of hard work to show the plight of the adults in the town. Next, the children are going to pay for their candy with change and not paper money. While their candy probably does not cost that much, this still implies that the children are not wealthy enough to have dollar bills that they can go pay and get change back for. Another example of the children not being wealthy is, Where there s a dog for each hand, Cats, chickens in the yard . Something that Soto is trying to point out with his use of imagery is that even though the children do not have much money, they lives are still very good to them. While to adults, having lots of animals or living on a farm may allude to poverty, to children it means fun and lots of animals to play with. On the other hand, the imagery in the next half of the poem that Soto uses about adults is much more serious and sad than the imagery he has used for the children. A first example is The cotton gin stands tall in the money dream . This visual imagery is in reference to to picking cotton, or agriculture in general. Agricultural jobs are common among poor Mexican workers and are probably one of the only ways that many believe they can really earn money. In this second half of the poem, the author s use of imagery is mainly featured around jobs and money. A second example of imagery when the speaker is talking to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The amendment, simply stating that, Equality of rights under the law shall not be abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex, quickly gained popularity among activists in the 1970s. This support was not surprising, as this decade was a time of great change and protest.
