Similarities Between Australia And East Asia
Australian and East Asia government were some interesting countries to research government history.
Australia with the historical background of the Aborigine s and East Asia s numerous countries with
bumpy but steady move toward democracy. In this paper, I will compare the Aboriginal and the
countries that have democracies in East Asia .
The history of East Asia goes back as far as 7500 BC in the prehistoric Neolithic period, includes the
days of the empire of China, and disseminates into the present day. East Asia at one time was
considered the nucleus of Authoritarian rule. Recently there have been milestones towards developing
a properly functioning democracy. Japan at one time was considered the only democracy, but in recent
years, South Korea and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A number of other countries in East Asia are showing signs of progressing from dictatorship to form
of democracy, which include Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Additionally the country Burma, is
heading toward democracy for the first time in over twenty years. However, only Japan, Taiwan and
South Korea are seen as stable democracy, with Japan being the lone Asian country that has been
technically liberal and democratic for six decades without disturbance. Citizens do express concerns
about authoritarian rule and most favor the liberal form of democracy with rule of law, freedom of
expression, and judicial independence.
The Aboriginal democracy traces back to the right to vote in Australia, which occurred in the 1800s. In
the beginning, Aborigines were governed by laws from the creative ancestral beings, coming from
tradition vice

China And The Implementation Of Pinyin
Over Population in China and the implementation of Pinyin In response to massive over population in
China, the Chinese over has taken drastic measures to reduce the nation s population. The first step
that was implemented was the one child policy also known as; pinyin. Pinyin is the one child
limitation on the majority of families that live in the People s Republic of China. It is enacted under
the official family planing policy. It limits the number of children marries urban couples to have to
one. The exceptions only apply to those who are: ethic minorities, rural families who depend on
children for farming and, parents without any siblings themselves. The Chinese government has given
an official statement saying that roughly to 35 to 40 percent of the Chinese population falls under the
one child rule. The higher ups in the government bureaucracy who mostly live in Macau and some
parts of Hong Kong are not affected by this policy as well. The policy was brought up by the
government in 1978 but, was officially enacted to first born children in 1979. Like today, China was
dealing with many social, economic, and environmental problems. Pinyin was a response to alleviate
these problems. Chinese authorities claimed that pinyin has prevented around 250 to 300 million
births from the time of its implementation in 1979 to the year 2010(SOURE CITATION). There is still
controversy within and outside of china for use of this policy. Because of the manner that policy was

Corruption Of Somalia After World War II
CORRUPTION IN SOMALIA FINAL GRADUATE PAPER Mohammad mohammad Brief
geography and history In the late 1800 s, European colonialism came to Somalia. Especially in areas
away from the coast, they fought in a fierce way. In the end, most of Somalia came to be under the
control of Britain, France or Italy. World War II brought about further fighting in the region, as
Somalia s ocean access is strategic. After World War II, Italy, Britain and USA remained involved in
governing Somalia. In 1960, the Somali Republic was established with a civilian government. In
1969, Mohamed Barre seized power and became the ruler of Somalia. He ushered in socialist views of
nationalized businesses and cooperative farms. Government positions in his regime went to clans loyal
to him, despite his regime s outwardly anti clan laws. The Cold War further complicated matters in
Somalia. Both the West and the Soviet Union believed the area to be of strategic importance. Hence
weapons and humanitarian and financial aid come into Somalia from outside governments.
CORRUPTION IN SOMALIAAs one of the longest running state collapses, Somalia faces many of
the major corruption challenges that affect conflict torn countries, with widespread corruption and a
deeply established patronage system undermining the legitimacy of the FGS. Corruption is further
exacerb ated by the absence of a strong functional

Simon Bolivar The Dictator Essay
Simon Bolivar, The Liberator, is acclaimed by historians as one of the greatest Latin American
revolutionary leaders in history. Commonly referred to as the Washington for South American
revolutions (Slatta 3), Bolivar, has undoubtedly had a profound influence on the political state of
South America; but as Washington got rid of colonialists of one country, Bolivar liberated six from
Spanish rule. Although he managed to attain such a feat, historians often debate over the extent of his
influence and success, some even regarding him as a failure. As a liberator who scorned liberalism, a
soldier who disparaged militarism, a republican who admired monarchy (Lynch 1), Bolivar s legacy
has many different analyses. Although Bolivar may have failed in creating his ideal, unified Republic,
he still managed to implement several of his goals and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The XTL (Anything to Liquid) Process Essay
XTL (Anything to Liquid) is recently emerging phrase that represented all of technologies intended to
convert any source of carbon to liquid hydrocarbons. These processes have at least three main steps:
syngas production, Fischer Tropsch Synthesis (FTS) and product finalizing. Syngas production might
be different from feed and technology point of view and these differences affect all downstream units
partially. In this step, source of carbon converted to syngas which is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon
monoxide. Origin of the letter X in the XTL phrase depends on this carbon source since B stands for
Biomass, C for Coal (bituminous or non bituminous), G for (natural) Gas and W for Waste
(petrochemical wastes, worn automobile tires and ...) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also it is comprehended by review of academic literatures such as articles and dissertations that GTL
is more attractive than any other XTL technologies. Although pipeline is a routine method for
transmission of natural gas in countries with huge amount of this wealth [10] but GTL also have its
own value in monetizing natural gas source to easily vendible liquid hydrocarbons. So many of
researches devoted to different fields of GTL process merely, beside those investigations on the
common part of all XTL technologies such as FTS and syngas production. Amongst these fields,
catalyst is the most attractive issue in different fields such as promoters and formulation [11, 12],
support [13], preparation ..., and both cobalt and iron catalysts are matter of investigation as well as
other new catalysts.
Beside catalyst, reactor design is of high importance. There are different types of reactors for
performing FTS such as multi tubular fixed bed reactors (also named trickle bed reactor, developed by
Shell), Slurry Bubble Column Reactors (or SBCR, developed by Sasol), Fluidized bed and circulating
fluidized bed reactors (namely Synthol, invented by Kellogg and developed by Sasol) [9, 14, 15].

Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 Class
I observed Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 class on January 19, 2016. The class began at 12:15 PM and
lasted until 1:20 PM. The room that the class met in was on the third floor of the Liberal Arts building,
and the room had individual computers for each of the students to work on. The class was divided into
two sections on this day because Dr. Crisp had scheduled an introductory visit to the writing lab,
which began at 12:45. Prior to the visit to the writing lab, Dr. Crisp guided the class in a discussion on
the topic of revision in regards to the first paper that the class had submitted. The stages of revision
were discussed and the students were shown where additional help could be found within the book.
Dr. Crisp told the students that the reason that their grades on the essays were significantly lower was
because the essays were lacking in detail and had Type One errors. She stated that revision is
important and that could help bring up the grades on the essays. The students had mixed reactions
regarding the subject of revision. Some of the students engaged with Dr. Crisp and began asking
questions about how she graded their papers in order to better understand what she was looking for
within the essay. The majority of the students in the class were more concerned with Facebook and
other programs on their computers than in getting assistance on interpreting the grades received. Dr.
Crisp struggled to bring those students into the discussion. Within the

Research Paper On Coal
Coal burning for electrical power is a big industry, but it creates a lot of big problems. Coal is full of
carbon dioxide and burning it releases the CO2 into the atmosphere (Overview of Greenhouse Gases).
The coal mining process creates pollution as well. Rubble and debris can end up in streams and
pollute the water (McQuaid)(Pond et al). However, this pollution can be lessened. Coal mining and
burning is an industry that creates large amounts of air and water pollution, but with proper
regulations such as cap and trade programs and Command and Control government regulations on
mining, the damage created by the industry can be reduced.
Coal is an organic sedimentary rock made mostly of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen. It is considered a

Command and Control regulations are when the government makes laws and policies that businesses
and individuals must follow (Kear). It is a compulsory method with legal repercussions if it is not
followed. It involves state and federal regulations, guidelines for enforcement of policies, guidelines
for pollution control, firm punishments, and strict timelines (Kear). The Command and Control
regulations I believe should be applied are government regulations on coal mining. Mountaintop coal
removal should be completely banned. It completely destroys mountain peaks and negatively affects
tourism in an area (McQuaid); therefore, it should be completely outlawed. Another regulation should
be land restoration. While coal industries are required to perform some restoration under the Surface
Mining Control and Reclamation Act (Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act), more restoration
should be done, and enforcement should be more closely monitored. Coal mining causes deforestation
(McQuaid), and coal companies should be held responsible for the trees cut down. Coal mining
companies should have to plant one new tree for every tree cut down during the mining process.
Another issue is debris. Rubble from coal mining operations can completely block streams (McQuaid.
This should also be banned entirely. If debris blocks a stream, operations should be shut down until
the stream is cleaned. Coal operations should also be responsible for treating the water near a mining
site if it gets contained, as coal mining can pollute the water sources around it (Pond et al.) Coal
mining operations should be held responsible for cleaning up the debris and pollutants created by their
operations. In the same vein, coal burning power plants should be required to clean the water they use
in their pipes. This

Main Characters In Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman (raised as Diana, princess of the Amazons) was trained for most of her life on
Themyscira to be an unconquerable warrior. But when she saves a drowning pilot who tells her of the
wars going on outside of her sheltered paradise she is convinced she can stop the conflict. Fighting
alongside four men and a secretary she finally discovers who, or rather what she is.
The main character of the film (played by Gal Gadot), Wonder Woman is based on a DC comics
character who goes by the same name. The film is directed by Patty Jenkins while the screenplay is by
Allan Heinberg.
A Wonder Woman feature film has been on the table since the late 1990s with multiple scripts having

Although I m not a fan of the insane villain trope for me this takes a slightly interesting twist on said
trope because she is doing a job, not a kind, nice or good job but a job nonetheless.
The thing that worries me about Doctor Poison is that DC (if the character is present in the future) will
go down the overplayed and unhelpful route of her being bitter about her facial injury. After binge
watching many super hero movies it shocks me how the overwhelming majority rely on a villain being
disabled and because of that wanting revenge. It frustrates me the messages these villains send to kids.
I hope that DC in the future continues to explore her as a character but in a way that aids the need for
strong female leads. The questions that need to be asked are What if she lived in a time and place
where women could pursue science and achieve and excel without the blessing, permission, or aid of
men? [And] what if it were possible for her work to garner respect without needing to be connected to
some greater, generally masculine goal? {6}. With the possibility of a sequel DC has a chance to break
the traditional super villain mould and have a well developed character who doesn t need to ask for
forgiveness .

A Poll Conducted By The Aspca Revealed That 94% Of Americans
A poll conducted by the ASPCA revealed that 94% of Americans believe that production animals,
specifically those raised for food, deserve to live a comfortable life free of cruelty and neglect. Despite
this belief, many factory farm animals are abused and neglected in such ways that, if witnessed by
consumers, would not be accepted. Over 99% of the United State s farm animals live on factory farms
that use them for means of profit, many of them violating the Animal Welfare Act and other laws put
in place to protect the humane treatment of animals (ASPCA). This abuse is not limited to any specific
type of farm animal. Although different animals are used for different purposes, they all share a

Chickens used for egg production typically live in one of many battery cages crammed into a long
windowless shed. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the size of a
drawer in a filing cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep this from
happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull the pain. Hens
who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die slowly and painfully.
Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to supply more chickens for egg
production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often killed by grinding or
suffocation. When the hens grow old and stop producing as many eggs, many farmers will deny them
proper nutrition to try and shock their bodies into laying eggs one last time. Then they are slaughtered
and their bodies are used for food scraps. Most of the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory
farms where they are overcrowded and treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are
stolen from their mothers and placed in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the
piglets do not have much range of motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. This
can cause extreme irritation so they begin biting each others tails, causing farmers to rip off their tails
and teeth without a sedative to ease the pain. Most sows in the U.S.

Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences Essay
Connections Between Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Implications for
Education
The old paradigm of students as empty vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge has given way to
the constructivist belief that students continuously build understandings based on their prior
experiences and information. The idea of a fixed intelligence has given way to a more flexible
perception of gradual intellectual development dependent on external stimulation (6)
Our intelligence, therefore, is our singular, collective ability to act and react in an everchanging world
(1)
In my first two web papers I researched two defined disorders, ADHD and Autism, following a train
of thought which began with a question: given that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This notion is well surmised by the Harvard Law of Animal Behavior, according to which, under
carefully controlled experimental circumstances, an animal will behave as it damn well pleases (5).
This points to the often uncomfortable result of neurological studies: there is no predictable pattern to
behavior. Instead of believing that the studies need better controls, some researchers now believe that
this unpredictability is itself significant. Biologically speaking, diversity is as fundamental to life as is
order. It is neither accidental nor detrimental. It is instead essential to the success of any biological
entity (8). A body of research now exists that corroborates externally discernible human variability
with an improved understanding of the internal variability present in human nervous systems.
Therefore, a more accurate reflection of differences in learning abilities and the resultant perceived
intellectual capacity of children is better captured with the phrase learning styles, which connotes not
a disability, but a difference. An important and potentially far reaching result of this enhanced
understanding of the nervous system is to use it to inform ideas about what constitutes an optimal
learning environment for children. Accepting that macrocosmic, visible variability has an associated
molecular microcosm lends it greater credibility, and gives educators a solid foundation

For hundreds of years the story of The Lost Colony has been told to children for

Roanoke must have been forced to relocate because of a drought in route to Chowan River and

During, Roanoke and Jamestown there seemed to have been a drought that became problematic to the

We achieved gross revenue of $1.9 billion last year despite competition from the two other branded
drugs in our market, Cialis and Levitra. As we look to the future and our patent expiration in 2020, we
need to plan to face our generic competition. The goal for the Viagra post patent expiration Strategic

Year after year, we have taken advantage of our position by setting our own price rather than basing it
on demand and supply equilibrium. The latest sales numbers from 2011 shows Viagra s success in
having the largest market shares compared to our competitors: ED Drugs | Market Share | Sales |
Viagra(Pfizer) | 45% | 1.9 B | Cialis(Eli Lilly) | 36% | 1.5 B | Levitra (Bayer AG) | 15% | 0.5 B |
FUTURE OF VIAGRA Change in Demand and Supply Again, similar to Zoloft, once Viagra s patent
expires, the generic competitors entering the market will force Viagra to significantly drop its price in
order to remain competitive. The pricing will affect the demand which means the demand is now
elastic rather than inelastic. In addition to the change in demand from inelastic to elastic, the supply
curve will also shift outward quite drastically as multiple generic manufacturing firms enter the
market causing the ED market to progress further into a monopolistic competitive market. Consumers

market shares and maximize profits. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH),
approximately 30 million men in the United States are affected by ED. [5] Of those affected, 80% of
those men do not seek treatment and never discuss their issues with their doctors. [6] Most men have

similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their

In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different

of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character s perspective, it might be

Biological, Sociological And Developmental Effects On A Child
Over the past decade, play has been the focus of many researches due to its biological, sociological
and developmental effects on a child. Play is understood as a basic human motivation and a phase for
individual development and of cultural assimilation and construction which leads to a specific view on
childhood. Play is sometimes opposed with serious work and learning activities which is not true
because play is an important arena in a child s life. Play is significant for a child s growth,
improvement of the child s welfare and play is also the child s legitimate right. Some people still get
confused between the meaning of play and just having fun. Play, in similar words, is the universal
language of childhood. It is through play that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Play is one of the aspects through which children learn the norms of the society they belong to, its
rules and values. Play is considered as a medium of learning in early childhood and many researches
that are conducted to study play are observational researches which observe children within early
childhood educational settings and also by interviewing their parents, caregivers or educators. There is
an influence of the cultural background and dynamics of the society a child belongs to on the child s
play. Play, is thus, a universal aspect of childhood but it differs from child to child and across time and
space. Play, also transcend species, infant or young animals are also indulged in an activity which is
similar to child s play. (Society, n.d.)
A number of things are necessary to be present for this universal aspect, play, to occur and be
sustained. One of these things is time and space which is frequently associated with poverty and its
absence. If the child belongs to a poverty stricken family or area then there are high chances that he is
involved in labor, whether inside the house or outside, and the chances of him being involved in any
type of play is minimized. Space for play is another issue which has been witnessed due to the growth
in cities which led to a diminution in the availability of space, in general and has thus made space an
issue too. One issue related to play and its universality that has been brought up in

The Term Global Financial Crisis (Gfc) Refers To The...
The term Global Financial Crisis (GFC) refers to the financial crisis of 2008 2009 that, according to
leading economists, is the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression (Eigner, 2015). The crisis
began in 2007 due to a mortgage market failure in the United States and in the following year, with the
collapse of the Lehman Brothers investment bank, advanced into an international banking crisis,
which then developed into a global economic crisis, The Great Recession (Williams, 2010). This essay

(Woods, 2009) This played a large role within financial institutions leading up to the crisis (Arner,
2009.) The cause of the crisis not only reflects the private sector but that of the government (Kling,
2009.)
Economists believe that some of the most important financial mechanisms associated and attributed to
the crisis were due to legislation and regulatory anomalies (Kling, 2009). Kling writes that one of the
most notable of these concerns the requirements of capital hill that favour securities backed by risky
mortgages rather than ordinary direct mortgage lending. Kling also states that the emergence of a large
quantity of mortgage loans that host low down payments due to the formation of housing equity also
heavily impacted overall on the crisis (Kling, 2009.) Economist Lawrence H. White bolsters these
assertions by associating the financial collapse with the same political backed efforts to extend
mortgage lending to buyers who could not meet the aforementioned standard mortgage lending
(Yandle, 2010.) It is important to not only analyse these regulatory efforts in the few years leading up

have had from simply reading the title. Starting off a mid term break in the sick bay doesn t exactly
give the best start to the vacation. Also in this line of the first stanza you can see that Heaney had a
since of isolation in the morning before he went home for, what seems to be, a less than spectacular
mid term break. There are also a couple of literary devices used in the first stanza. In line two there is
alliteration and symbolism used. The line goes counting bells knelling classes to a close. Knell
commonly refers to a bell that is rung solemnly for funerals and mourning of death. That can be seen
as a symbol foreshadowing what is yet to come later in the poem when the reader learns that Heaney s
brother had been ran over by a car. Bells knelling and classes to a close (l. 2) are alliteration. It is
alliteration because the cl s are the same sound and they occur very close to each other. The word
choice in line four, when the specific time of two o clock is given, it reminds readers that when

a use of euphemism and in a sense it is verbal irony as well. It is a euphemism because saying it was a

Allegory, Symbolism, and Madness – Comparing the Demons...
Allegory, Symbolism, and Madness Comparing the Demons of Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel
Hawthorne
As contemporaries of each other, Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne endeavored to write
about man s dark side, the supernatural influence, and moral truths. Each writer saw man as the center
point in his stories; Poe sees man s internal struggle as madness, while Hawthorne sees man as having
a secret sin. Each had their reasons for writing in the Gothic format. Poe was not a religious man; he
was well educated and favored reading the German Gothic literature, which would become the basis
for his own writing. Hawthorne on the other hand, called on his Puritan Calvinistic background to
influence his writing style. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An allegory for Hawthorne is a moral tale [...] (77). Hawthorne saw his writing in allegorical terms to
bring to the reader s attention concrete realities by way of abstract ideas; he was able to imagine the
natural world into an imaginary supernatural one.
Hawthorne s natural world influence on his imaginary world began within his home; Donald A. Ringe
quotes a passage from Hawthorne s introduction to The Scarlet Letter:
A coal fire diffuses a scarcely visible but mild, heart warm influence throughout the room, while
moonlight from the window produces a very beautiful effect. [...] all the familiar objects of the room
are invested with something like strangeness and remoteness, as if one were viewing them after the
passage of years. [...] such a medium is created that the room seems just fit for the ghosts of persons
very dear, who have lived in the room with us [...] It would be like a matter of course, to look round,
and find some familiar form in one of the chairs (156).
Hawthorne is absorbed into the natural environment around him and in combination with his concerns
for man s moral behavior, he brings to his tales a picturesque quality suited to the allegorical motif.
His motifs would consist of demons, witches, and natural settings as symbols of man s conflicts with
evil and struggle to suppress the sins that plague all men. Hawthorne was comfortable writing about

Elizabeth Bennet Confidante
The protagonist of Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet, shares her personal thoughts,
feelings, and impressions with her elder sister Jane Bennet. Through confiding in Jane, Elizabeth
shares more. She allows Jane to share her pleasure and distress. As Elizabeth s confidante, Jane
influences the plot, theme, and message that Jane Austen conveys in the novel.
Jane is a natural confidante for Elizabeth. She is a relative and therefore more inclined to be

Elizabeth expresses her love of Jane by explaining that she only wants to think her perfect (Austen
116).
The mutual trust between the women creates an environment that encourages openness with one
another and the ease of revealing information to each other. It is because of the pivotal aspect of trust
that Elizabeth is able to confide in her sister. This is proven when she related to Jane the next day what
had passed between Mr. Wickham and herself even though she kept the exchange secret from
everyone else and Jane listened with astonishment and concern (Austen 73).
Elizabeth s trust in Jane is strengthened by the weakening of trust in her dear friend Charlotte Lucas.
Elizabeth is, naturally, shocked when she hears that Charlotte is engaged to be married to Mr. Collins
mere days after Elizabeth herself had refused his hand in marriage. In as short a time as Mr. Collins s
speeches would allow, everything was settled between them to the satisfaction of both (Austen 106).
Jane s role as confidante is strengthened by this sudden marriage arrangement because Elizabeth s
disappointment in Charlotte made her turn with fonder regard to her sister, of whose rectitude and
delicacy she was sure her opinion could never be shaken (Austen

Achieving Project Goals Simulation
How completing the simulation change my perspective of project management
The completion of the stimulation has a critical impact on how I view the general outlook of project
management in the society. Project management is a multifaceted activity that desires and requires
diverse knowledge and skills from the concerned people. The simulation project had many
considerations that took after manipulation of the natural skills and materials into meeting the elephant
project. The directives that were of immense importance came from the knowledge and skills gained
from the course materials and comparative approaches involved throughout the study period
(Choudhury, 1988).
After completing the project, I learnt immense skills and knowledge as regards going beyond extremes
of time and activity in order to meet the objected and non objected calls of the project. The project on
elephants had to be covered within the initial scope that was set during the creation of the project. In
order to fulfill the needs and specifications of the project, the workers had to increase more of their
attention, concentration, and determination. I perceive a project as a tedious and cheap avenue that can
be accomplished if equitable plans have been set before its initialization.
After completing the project, I developed innate skills and knowledge as regards management of
challenges that

Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club Essay
Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club
It is easy to understand how and why many who view Fight Club (Fincher, 1999) would argue that is
in essence a critique of post modern consumer culture within America or indeed the western world.
After all we are faced with Character(s) Jack (Edward Norton) who seems to gain no cultural
sustenance from the world in which he inhabits. More over it seems to do him harm in the form of
insomnia. This coupled with his obsession with Ikea and material goods leads to the creation of Tyler
(Brad Pit). Whose apparent goal is the destruction of the capitalist system? The film seems littered
with examples of anti consumer, anti capitalist motifs. The blowing up of ... Show more content on

One of the key issues which Giroux raises is that Fight Club tries to suggest consumerism has
destabilized masculinity in effect masculinity has been emasculated. However the film does not seem
to concern itself with any details regarding this process of consumerism in terms of economics or
practical application. In this respect it is very vague, using what could easily be described as sound
bites especially from Tyler to fill the gap where debate could be. Fight Club largely ignores issues
surrounding the break up of labour unions, the slashing of the U.S. workforce, extensive plant
closings, downsizing, outsourcing, the elimination of the welfare state, the attack on people of colour
and growing disparities between rich and poor. (Giroux, 2000:8). Fight Club seems content to portray
consumerism as an all encompassing continuum, which only those who are prepared to understand the
world through binary acts of violence and sabotage will be able to negate. This notion is problematic
in itself as it implies that everybody within the western world is blind to consumerism. But also the

One of the greatest organizational concerns and responsibility of the board is finances. The board of
directors have a duty of care to keep an organization financially viable, luckily for the Center, the
board appears to be successful in this aspect. According to the Center s 2016 report on Charity Watch,
it only spends nine dollars to raise every hundred. In addition to their fundraising skills, only 17% of
those funds were spent on overhead costs while the rest is allocated to program expenses (Charity
Watch, 2016). These numbers look great and the percentage allocated to program expenses is
especially significant for allowing the Center to hire more staff and increase its capacity. Thanks to the
board s oversight and guidance, the Center now has over a hundred employees that serve in eight
different programs. Despite the boards managerial capability and diverse skillsets, they do have one
weakness representation. One issue with a self perpetuating board is that ... the board may come to be

Leadership In Beowulf
A leader in any tale is an exceptional figure, whether good or evil, they also display tremendous
strength above all others be it physical, emotional or mental. Their qualities instill in them a reverence

In the process of Russia laying its claim to other countries, they attempted to take over Greece as well,
but the British arrived just in time to prevent the takeover. Russia had already expanded so far into the

The Importance Of Movies In Movies
Movies have been around since the late 1800 s in various forms and have always been at the center of
water cooler debates because of their ability to push the boundaries of social norms. Because movies
are entertainment, they can fall victim to becoming boring and mundane after a while, this is why the
boundaries of what we see portrayed on screen are always moving. Lyden (2003) states We are
beginning to realize that we cannot understand or interpret our society except in its relation to these
unavoidable additions to it. Some welcome them and some fear them, but they are here to stay (p.1).
For as long as I can remember, I ve been an avid fan of movies. I have enjoyed everything from action
to drama; comedy to suspense, but the one thing that is immutable about my experience is the self
apparent change in the morals and values depicted in film. It is the ability of movies to make us feel a
certain way, as well as influence social conciseness that makes the moralities that drive them
important to examine. How do movies continue to push the boundaries of our expectations, without
exploring the fringes of cultural and social morality? What is the damage to our psyches when the
things depicted on the big screen challenge the established moral norms? Matthew 6:22 24 informs us

Comparing Rhetoric In We Shall Overcome And Apple s Mac

thing in common: getting a point across to an audience. King does an excellent job of showing

the audience s sense of pathos or emotion. In contrast, in the Macintosh commercial the speaker
mainly appeals to ethos or ethics. In the commercial an allusion of 1984 is present. The speaker uses
this irony when connecting 1984, which is a novel about the dangers of technology, and Macintosh

The Blue Collar Guys Essay
The Blue Collar Guy
There is a Chinese proverb that says, Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those
doing it. Steve Olson wrote an essay that talks about that very principle. He titled his essay Year of the
Blue Collar Guys . It is about the hard working blue collar guys (BCGs) living in America, but what
was his purpose in writing about BCGs? What kind of modes of persuasion does he use to persuade
his audience to his way of thinking? How does he respond to the opposing side of his argument, and
what kind of logical fallacies does he use?
First and foremost, what is Olson s purpose in Writing Year of the blue collar guy? His purpose is to

He uses humor to allow his audience to see just how ridiculous yet still amazing BCGs are. For
example, Olson says, These talkers, are the guys we drove from the playgrounds into the libraries
when we were young and now for twenty years or more now we have endured the revenge of the
nerds . (Paragraph four) Though this statement may not be completely accurate, Olson wrote it in a
way that would seem humorous to most of his audience and, still have a hint of legitimacy behind it.
Olson s use of pathos wasn t as effective towards his overall goal of showing Americans how critical
BCGs are. Though he still got his point across, he could have been more convincing if he used a more
logical approach by simply stating the accomplishments that BCGs have done in comparison to white
collar guys would have been a more convincing argument than forming it into a humorous comment.
To any perspective on life, there is always an opposing side, and the opposing side Olson brings up in
his essay is that BCGs are not sophisticated enough to receive the kind of recognition they want. He
states that BCGs have been portrayed as beer drinking, big bellied, bigoted, rednecks who dress badly
. (Paragraph 1) Most people would respond by shooting insults back towards whoever said that. Olson
chooses another approach, surprisingly, he agrees with them. He takes what they say and laughs at it.

Religion and private property are thought to be exceedingly influential in regards to politics, and many

Before examining the relationship between private property, religion, and politics, it is imperative to
recognize the historical context as to what was happening at the time when John Locke wrote The Two
Treatises of Government. Locke began to articulate his views, particularly in The Two Treatise of
Government, during the Glorious Revolution in late 17th century England. This revolution involved
the removal of James II, a Stuart, from England due to his absolutist and catholic tendencies, because
the majority of English people were Anglican at the time. Locke, along with many other people, felt
threatened when James II began to pack parliament with his friends and supporters. This was a huge
problem, because parliament is in charge with representing the people, protecting their rights as
English citizens, which includes freedom of speech and property. Eventually, James II left England for
France in exile, and King William and Queen Mary became the new leaders. They signed the English
Bill of Rights to protect certain civil liberties, and in terms of property, the Bill of Rights states that
taxes cannot be levied without consent from Parliament. Taxes can be a direct threat to someone s
property; if an individual cannot afford to pay their taxes, they will lose their property. In sum, John
Locke writes The Two Treatises of Government the exact same year as the Glorious Revolution, to
express why James II was

The Vegetarian By Han Kang Essay
In The Vegetarian by Han Kang, what appears to be one insubordinate South Korean woman s choice
to not eat meat, becomes a much larger issue revolving around what is normal, and just how far others
should be allowed to impose their own views of reality onto another person s life. Yeong hye s unusual
ways, while strange to the mainstream culture s expectations, present their own rationality in her
mind. She sees it as a way to oppose the violent tendencies of human nature, in order to find her own
peace in life. Kang takes this idea to the farthest extent with the philosophical question, should a
person be allowed to choose to die because their life is just that, their own life? The unique
perspective of this novel comes from a South Korean author, which helps to develop her questions

into her narrative. At the age of nine, Kang was a witness to the Gwangju Massacre (Reynolds). She

Extra Life, and Humble Bundle have raised millions collectively for various charities, but namely for

million, and Humble Bundle raised an estimated $8 million for charities and hospitals such as
Children s Miracle Network Hospitals, or charity: water . The donations received in 2013 beat many
records set by the charities in the past, as Child s Play raised $5 million back in 2012. 100% of profits
received are also used or given specifically to or for the aforementioned causes, save for Child s Play,
which according to their FAQ section on their website, uncontrollably has administrative fees used for
shipping and such; and Humble Bundle, which allows the buyer to control how the money is split
between the developers/content authors, the charities, and the costs to host the website.

Australia with the historical background of the Aborigine s and East Asia s numerous countries with bumpy but steady move toward democracy. In this paper, I will compare the Aboriginal and the countries that have democracies in East Asia . The history of East Asia goes back as far as 7500 BC in the prehistoric Neolithic period, includes the days of the empire of China, and disseminates into the present day. • 7. Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 Class I observed Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 class on January 19, 2016. The class began at 12:15 PM and lasted until 1:20 PM. The room that the class met in was on the third floor of the Liberal Arts building, and the room had individual computers for each of the students to work on. The class was divided into two sections on this day because Dr. Crisp had scheduled an introductory visit to the writing lab, which began at 12:45. Prior to the visit to the writing lab, Dr. Crisp guided the class in a discussion on the topic of revision in regards to the first paper that the class had submitted. The stages of revision were discussed and the students were shown where additional help could be found within the book. Dr. Crisp told the students that the reason that their grades on the essays were significantly lower was because the essays were lacking in detail and had Type One errors. She stated that revision is important and that could help bring up the grades on the essays. The students had mixed reactions regarding the subject of revision. Some of the students engaged with Dr. Crisp and began asking questions about how she graded their papers in order to better understand what she was looking for within the essay. The majority of the students in the class were more concerned with Facebook and other programs on their computers than in getting assistance on interpreting the grades received. • 9. Research Paper On Coal Coal burning for electrical power is a big industry, but it creates a lot of big problems. Coal is full of carbon dioxide and burning it releases the CO2 into the atmosphere (Overview of Greenhouse Gases). The coal mining process creates pollution as well. Rubble and debris can end up in streams and pollute the water (McQuaid)(Pond et al). However, this pollution can be lessened. Coal mining and burning is an industry that creates large amounts of air and water pollution, but with proper regulations such as cap and trade programs and Command and Control government regulations on mining, the damage created by the industry can be reduced. It is a compulsory method with legal repercussions if it is not followed. The Command and Control regulations I believe should be applied are government regulations on coal mining. Mountaintop coal removal should be completely banned. It completely destroys mountain peaks and negatively affects tourism in an area (McQuaid); therefore, it should be completely outlawed. Another regulation should be land restoration. While coal industries are required to perform some restoration under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act), more restoration should be done, and enforcement should be more closely monitored. Coal mining causes deforestation (McQuaid), and coal companies should be held responsible for the trees cut down. Coal mining companies should have to plant one new tree for every tree cut down during the mining process. Another issue is debris. Rubble from coal mining operations can completely block streams (McQuaid. This should also be banned entirely. If debris blocks a stream, operations should be shut down until the stream is cleaned. Coal operations should also be responsible for treating the water near a mining site if it gets contained, as coal mining can pollute the water sources around it (Pond et al.) Although I m not a fan of the insane villain trope for me this takes a slightly interesting twist on said trope because she is doing a job, not a kind, nice or good job but a job nonetheless. The thing that worries me about Doctor Poison is that DC (if the character is present in the future) will go down the overplayed and unhelpful route of her being bitter about her facial injury. After binge watching many super hero movies it shocks me how the overwhelming majority rely on a villain being disabled and because of that wanting revenge. It frustrates me the messages these villains send to kids. I hope that DC in the future continues to explore her as a character but in a way that aids the need for strong female leads. The questions that need to be asked are What if she lived in a time and place where women could pursue science and achieve and excel without the blessing, permission, or aid of men? [And] what if it were possible for her work to garner respect without needing to be connected to some greater, generally masculine goal? {6}. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chickens used for egg production typically live in one of many battery cages crammed into a long windowless shed. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the size of a drawer in a filing cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep this from happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull the pain. Hens who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die slowly and painfully. Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to supply more chickens for egg production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often killed by grinding or suffocation. When the hens grow old and stop producing as many eggs, many farmers will deny them proper nutrition to try and shock their bodies into laying eggs one last time. Then they are slaughtered and their bodies are used for food scraps. Most of the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory farms where they are overcrowded and treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are stolen from their mothers and placed in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the piglets do not have much range of motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences Essay Connections Between Neuroscience and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Implications for Education The old paradigm of students as empty vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge has given way to the constructivist belief that students continuously build understandings based on their prior experiences and information. The idea of a fixed intelligence has given way to a more flexible perception of gradual intellectual development dependent on external stimulation (6) Our intelligence, therefore, is our singular, collective ability to act and react in an everchanging world (1) In my first two web papers I researched two defined disorders, ADHD and Autism, following a train of thought which began with a question: given that the ... This notion is well surmised by the Harvard Law of Animal Behavior, according to which, under carefully controlled experimental circumstances, an animal will behave as it damn well pleases (5). This points to the often uncomfortable result of neurological studies: there is no predictable pattern to behavior. Instead of believing that the studies need better controls, some researchers now believe that this unpredictability is itself significant. Biologically speaking, diversity is as fundamental to life as is order. It is neither accidental nor detrimental. It is instead essential to the success of any biological entity (8). A body of research now exists that corroborates externally discernible human variability with an improved understanding of the internal variability present in human nervous systems. Therefore, a more accurate reflection of differences in learning abilities and the resultant perceived intellectual capacity of children is better captured with the phrase learning styles, which connotes not a disability, but a difference. An important and potentially far reaching result of this enhanced understanding of the nervous system is to use it to inform ideas about what constitutes an optimal learning environment for children. He says, I sat all morning in the college sick bay (l. 1). This instantly strains away any positive thoughts that one might have had from simply reading the title. Starting off a mid term break in the sick bay doesn t exactly give the best start to the vacation. Also in this line of the first stanza you can see that Heaney had a since of isolation in the morning before he went home for, what seems to be, a less than spectacular mid term break. There are also a couple of literary devices used in the first stanza. In line two there is alliteration and symbolism used. The line goes counting bells knelling classes to a close. Knell commonly refers to a bell that is rung solemnly for funerals and mourning of death. That can be seen as a symbol foreshadowing what is yet to come later in the poem when the reader learns that Heaney s brother had been ran over by a car. Bells knelling and classes to a close (l. 2) are alliteration. It is alliteration because the cl s are the same sound and they occur very close to each other. • 26. Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club Essay Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club It is easy to understand how and why many who view Fight Club (Fincher, 1999) would argue that is in essence a critique of post modern consumer culture within America or indeed the western world. After all we are faced with Character(s) Jack (Edward Norton) who seems to gain no cultural sustenance from the world in which he inhabits. More over it seems to do him harm in the form of insomnia. This coupled with his obsession with Ikea and material goods leads to the creation of Tyler (Brad Pit). Whose apparent goal is the destruction of the capitalist system? The film seems littered with examples of anti consumer, anti capitalist motifs. The blowing up of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the key issues which Giroux raises is that Fight Club tries to suggest consumerism has destabilized masculinity in effect masculinity has been emasculated. However the film does not seem to concern itself with any details regarding this process of consumerism in terms of economics or practical application. In this respect it is very vague, using what could easily be described as sound bites especially from Tyler to fill the gap where debate could be. Fight Club largely ignores issues surrounding the break up of labour unions, the slashing of the U.S. workforce, extensive plant closings, downsizing, outsourcing, the elimination of the welfare state, the attack on people of colour and growing disparities between rich and poor. (Giroux, 2000:8). Fight Club seems content to portray consumerism as an all encompassing continuum, which only those who are prepared to understand the world through binary acts of violence and sabotage will be able to negate. This notion is problematic in itself as it implies that everybody within the western world is blind to consumerism. But also the Character of Tyler who Jill Nelmes in Film Studies An ... The board of directors have a duty of care to keep an organization financially viable, luckily for the Center, the board appears to be successful in this aspect. According to the Center s 2016 report on Charity Watch, it only spends nine dollars to raise every hundred. In addition to their fundraising skills, only 17% of those funds were spent on overhead costs while the rest is allocated to program expenses (Charity Watch, 2016). These numbers look great and the percentage allocated to program expenses is especially significant for allowing the Center to hire more staff and increase its capacity. Thanks to the board s oversight and guidance, the Center now has over a hundred employees that serve in eight different programs. Despite the boards managerial capability and diverse skillsets, they do have one weakness representation. One issue with a self perpetuating board is that ... the board may come to be unrepresentative of the constituency or community the organization serves, (Worth, 77). • 31. The Importance Of Movies In Movies Movies have been around since the late 1800 s in various forms and have always been at the center of water cooler debates because of their ability to push the boundaries of social norms. Because movies are entertainment, they can fall victim to becoming boring and mundane after a while, this is why the boundaries of what we see portrayed on screen are always moving. Lyden (2003) states We are beginning to realize that we cannot understand or interpret our society except in its relation to these unavoidable additions to it. Some welcome them and some fear them, but they are here to stay (p.1). For as long as I can remember, I ve been an avid fan of movies. I have enjoyed everything from action to drama; comedy to suspense, but the one thing that is immutable about my experience is the self apparent change in the morals and values depicted in film. It is the ability of movies to make us feel a certain way, as well as influence social conciseness that makes the moralities that drive them important to examine. How do movies continue to push the boundaries of our expectations, without exploring the fringes of cultural and social morality? What is the damage to our psyches when the things depicted on the big screen challenge the established moral norms? In contrast, in the Macintosh commercial the speaker mainly appeals to ethos or ethics. In the commercial an allusion of 1984 is present. What kind of modes of persuasion does he use to persuade his audience to his way of thinking? How does he respond to the opposing side of his argument, and what kind of logical fallacies does he use? First and foremost, what is Olson s purpose in Writing Year of the blue collar guy? His purpose is to convince the working class of America to show recognition to the BCGs. ... For example, Olson says, These talkers, are the guys we drove from the playgrounds into the libraries when we were young and now for twenty years or more now we have endured the revenge of the nerds . (Paragraph four) Though this statement may not be completely accurate, Olson wrote it in a way that would seem humorous to most of his audience and, still have a hint of legitimacy behind it. Olson s use of pathos wasn t as effective towards his overall goal of showing Americans how critical BCGs are. Though he still got his point across, he could have been more convincing if he used a more logical approach by simply stating the accomplishments that BCGs have done in comparison to white collar guys would have been a more convincing argument than forming it into a humorous comment. To any perspective on life, there is always an opposing side, and the opposing side Olson brings up in his essay is that BCGs are not sophisticated enough to receive the kind of recognition they want. He states that BCGs have been portrayed as beer drinking, big bellied, bigoted, rednecks who dress badly . (Paragraph 1) Most people would respond by shooting insults back towards whoever said that. This revolution involved the removal of James II, a Stuart, from England due to his absolutist and catholic tendencies, because the majority of English people were Anglican at the time. Locke, along with many other people, felt threatened when James II began to pack parliament with his friends and supporters. This was a huge problem, because parliament is in charge with representing the people, protecting their rights as English citizens, which includes freedom of speech and property.
