Manley Pointer
Things are Not Always as They Seem with Good Country People
Why that looks like the nice dull young man that tried to sell me a Bible yesterday, Mrs. Hopewell
said, squinting. He must of been trying to sell them to the
Negros back in there. He was so simple, she said, but I guess the world would be better off if we were
all that simple (145). At the end of the story, Mrs. Hopewell considers
Manley Pointer simple. Little did she know that this simple man had just caused Hulga severe mental
and physical anguish. Her ignorance towards the underlying evil in the world turns out to be her
greatest fault. Situations are not always as they seem, and unless one first looks within, his or her
weaknesses may be exploited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bible carried by Manley turns out to be nothing more than a hiding place for a pocket flask of
whiskey, a pack of cards, and a small blue box with printing on it (135). Joy Hulga appears to be
accepting of her situation, but she is still very ashamed of her appearance. In the story, both Hulga and
Manley wear masks over their true natures. Their final confrontation, however, reveals Manley to be a
cunning atheist while Hulga is exposed as a girl whose naivete sharply contradicts the nihilistic cliches
she professes. After the confrontation in the hay loft with Hulga, Manley is revealed as an abuser and
a thief, but only to Hulga. There are two types of irony throughout this story, situational irony and
verbal irony. Situational irony is found when Hulga is expecting to seduce an innocent, however, it
turns out to be quite different. Joy Hulga is easily the most taken advantage of character in the entire
story. As her ugly sounding name implies, she appears ugly and evil, but deep down she has a desire
for love and happiness. She says, I am one of those people who see through to nothing (115). Little
does she know, that she recognizes one of her greatest weaknesses in this statement. Hulga has said
one thing but her hidden desires cause her several problems later on. For example, the whole scene
that takes place in the hay loft, which is know as verbal irony. Manley was

The Rcmp Relationship With Aboriginal Peoples Essay
Question: Why does the RCMP relationship with Aboriginal peoples continue to decline? Are there
any historical ties that have developed this relationship? Is it possible to have a mutual relationship
where Aboriginal people and the RCMP can cooperate and work with one another? Thesis statement:
to be developed after interviews.
Possible Thesis: the continued decline is a result of police hegemony over a perceived second class
people. the continued decline is a result of a perceived police hegemony and assimilation through laws
and hard police enforcement by First Nations.
The continued decline is a result of the Canadian state s political ambition for First Nation
assimilation. (The police institutions are not at fault since they have a obligation to enforce and protect
the Canadian state.) Plan of investigation: It is the purpose of this essay to conduct an analytical
observation through interviews of First Nations individuals, RCMP officers and Academic instructors
who have experience in Police First Nation relations. Moreover, the paper will attempt to develop a
solution to the Police First Nation relation; a cooperative form of policing.
Method of Research: This research essay will be composed of three parts. Firstly, the paper will use
analytical research from primary and secondary bibliographical sources; books, biographies, articles,
newspapers, government legislative acts, RCMP First Nations treaty agreement, and relative historical
events.

Study Population And Clinical Data
STUDY POPULATION AND CLINICAL DATA
This study is a retrospective chart review of 360 patients with definite or possible Infective
Endocarditis according to modified Duke Criteria [1 2] who were admitted to Detroit Receiving
Hospital and Harper University Hospital in Detroit from 2006 to 2014. Both hospitals are teaching
hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. For a patient with repeated episodes of Infective Endocarditis, one
episode was only included at our institutions. Clinical, microbiological, and echocardiographic data of
all patients with definite IE were collected using a standard data collection form.
Analysis of Data
Analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software system version 22. In table 1, bivariate
analysis was used to compare IE patients who died during admission versus those who survived to
hospital discharge.
Continuous variables were expressed as means ± standard deviation (SD) and binary regression
analysis was used to examine the associations between a continuous variable and a categorical
variable with two categories. Categorical variables were presented numbers (percentage) and the
association between them analyzed using The Chi square test. Variables that achieved a P value less
than 0.10 in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression model to
adjust the effects of any possible confounding variable. The independent predictors of the mortality
were selected using a backward stepwise.

abolitionist stance of prisons Essay
Catherine Giguère 5246389 Term Paper #3 Work submitted to Professor Justin Piché In the course
Abolitionism and the Criminal Justice System (CRM 4302) Department de Criminology University of
Ottawa December 11th 2012 Many individuals believe that the criminal system and its institutions are
flawed. These critiques have been brought on by the ineffectiveness of prisons to reform individuals,
the ineptness of the system to reduce crime rates, the lack of focus on victims of crimes, as well as the
racist, classist and sexist practices existing in these institutions. Therefore, we can ask ourselves if the
elimination of the current penal system and the implementation of alternatives would better allow ...

7) In criminological theories, we saw how police activity is largely geared towards minor visible
crimes committed by individuals from the lower stratums of society as oppose to white collar crimes
committed by those of higher stratums (Dubé, CRM 3701, 2011). Abolitionists argue that by severely
punishing some of the poor in order to deter society from committing crimes; we are only further
contributing to the inequalities in today s society. A second key argument advanced for the abolition of
prisons is the failure to rehabilitate with imprisonment. Rehabilitation is supposed to permit the
individual to be restored to a law abiding citizen, contributing to society. However, abolitionists argue
that prisons do not permit this. First, schooling and work within prisons is supposed to allow
individuals to become productive citizens in society. However, In many prisons, especially the old
ones, the work which is offered is to a large extent meaningless (placing advertisement material in
envelopes, folding tobacco packets), or simply non existent . (Mathiesen, 2008, p. 34). This work
experience is therefore without benefit to the prisoner upon his release.

Effectiveness And Social Implications Of Privats
significantly conflicting perceptions regarding the interpretation of general facts, attitudes towards
each sector, and effectiveness and social implications of DOTS. The study suggested that such
differences might result in mistrust, differing views on reform propositions, conflicting mind sets
about social agendas, and unwillingness to collaborate [5]. Similarly, Slave et al.(2016) found that PPs
had contrasting perceptions about the different components of the TB programme such as the
feasibility of DOT[6]. In the pilot service linkage project between the public and private sector in TB
control in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, Hurtig et al.(2002) found that the public sector, despite the will,
did not have the structure or resources to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the
responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to
external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3]. Mistrust can
also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the ground in
implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather limited flexibility
in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of checks and balances [2].
Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have pinpointed the importance of
communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP, NGOs, PPs and other providers. In
Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB centre recognised the need for regular
contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach
existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB
suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However, despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular
basis, these interactions were inherently unequal and ambivalent. TB HVs were in the awkward
position of exercising control over PPs: one the one hand, PPs were the profession they would respect
and obey otherwise; on the other hand, the non medical status of the TB HVs limited their interaction

The Influence Of Barbie Dolls
Many children learn life skills from the toys they play with. Legos teach children how to build objects
while following direction. Coloring books help kids with motor skills and creativity. Even basketballs,
and footballs teach kids teamwork and physical endurance. Barbie dolls show girls that they have to
be put together, wear heels, and have the perfect life with the perfect car and the perfect boyfriend.
The old Barbie doll was very unhealthy in the way she looked, and this showed girls a bad example on
what their bodies needed to look like. New Barbies are made to show what a healthy person should
look like. They have new body types like curvy, short, and tall to show that not everyone looks the
same. Old Barbies brought young girls confidence down because of their unhealthy body type, while
new Barbies, with more body types, skin tones, and eye colors, boost girls confidence. Barbies are a
huge part of American girls culture, and their unhealthy body was making young girls less confident.
A study showed that after girls looked at Barbies their self esteem went down, while girls who saw a
more realistic doll felt no change in their self esteem (APA Staff). This is important because Barbies
are a large part of American culture, so if playing/looking at Barbies makes girls self esteem go down,
that means many girls in America must have some type of body confidence issue. To add on to this
point, the old version of Ken as well as Barbie shows an unhealthy body type,

Trader Joe s demonstrates the importance of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling in the
management process. To begin with, Trader Joe s demonstrates planning when they decided on a way
to make their stores different. Through observing that consumers are more likely to try new things
while on vacation, the company decided that their employees would don Hawaiian shirts and that they
would provide one of a kind foods at a great price. Trader Joe s is able to keep product costs down by
consistently purchasing directly from the producer of each item. This method of disintermediation
successfully cuts out the middleman, thus greatly reducing expenses, which in turn reduces costs for
consumers.
Organization is demonstrated through the planning process itself. After observing that people are more
likely to try new things while on vacation, the company set out to enable customers to be able to try
new things in stores. Trader Joe s was successful in organizing and devising a plan in which it could
incorporate the sampling of new products that will consequently broaden sales for sampled items.

Tattoos Senior Project
My senior project was over the History of Tattooing, I chose this as my topic because Tattoos really
interest me with all the different styles and meanings behind them. Some things I already knew about
Tattooing is a lot of tribes used tattoos to symbolize things, but I didn t know what. With my research I
expected to find a lot more upfront information, like maybe a for sure area on where they originated
and exactly how it spread, but it was so spread out it was hard for anyone to pinpoint exactly who did
them first.
Doing my senior project I found out that just doodling a Tattoo is difficult because you wouldn t want
it to be flat or too simple, so you have to really but in detail and attempt to put in depth to help your
piece come to life even before it s on skin, What I did was I put in a different color where the bottom
area of the tentacle is and tried to do highlighting with some silver to give more depth. My mentor

Fineness And Violence In The Workplace
COARSENESS AND VIOLENCE AT WORKPLACE ISSUES AND CHALLENGES
Abstract:
Workplace coarseness and violence are growing challenges for human resource development (HRD)
professionals. The occurrence of violent behavior at work. The frequency, intensity, and duration of
coarse behavior should be a concern to leaders in any organization. All too often seemingly isolated
and incidents like, instigating a joke can lead to patterns of coarse behavior and it leads to bullying
and even physical violence. Many researchers have noted numerous detrimental outcomes of
workplace coarseness and violence. A coarse work environment may lead to poor employee health,
low job satisfaction, low organizational productivity and commitment, high employee turnover, and
poor application of learning at work. Each is a form of aggressive behavior. In as much as coarse
behavior is linked to poor individual for e.g. job performance and organizational level outcomes,
human resource development (HRD) is increasingly being called to implement useful strategies for
dealing effectively with this vital workplace issue.
Key Words: Coarseness, Job Satisfaction, Employee Turnover
INTRODUCTION
At work, coarseness can manifest in three major ways. First, coarseness can be interpersonal in nature,
where one person is directly coarse toward another person. In the above example, your supervisor
neglecting to thank you for holding the door is an example of interpersonal coarseness (whether or not

1. How would you characterize the business risk of Bed Bath Beyond? Review their financial
performance. Business risk in the case of BBBY is low if you only consider that the products they sell
are produced by name brand companies, so any products needing repair could be sent directly to the
name brand company. By passing BBBY and that BBBY has no control over the quality of the
products they sell and that there are no significant switching costs. However, their degree of operating
advantage is high which would indicate high business risk. If management adds fixed operating costs

Repurchasing shares with a 40% debt to total capital ratio would increase shareholder value, however
repurchasing shares with an 80% debt to total capital ratio would significantly decrease shareholder
value and therefore would not be advisable. Increasing debt increases shareholder value to a certain
point. As this proforma shows, the point of diminishing return is somewhere between 40% and 80%.
3. What capital structure would you recommend as appropriate for Bed Bath Beyond? How much
financial risk would Bed Bath Beyond face at each of the proposed levels of debt? Capital Structure
for Bed Bath and Beyond An analysis of a repurchase of stock for $400 million cash, and
recapitalization to 80% debt to total capital by borrowing $1.27 million reveals that BBBYs return on
equity will be 113%, return on assets 61% and an after tax cost of debt of 28%. ROE is ROA and ROA
after tax cost of debt. With the 80% debt to total capital structure ROE exceeds the other two capital
structure scenarios of no debt and 40% debt to total capital. While all of this looks great there are other
considerations. The household and personal products industries debt to total asset ratio is 34.69%
while BBBY debt to total asset ratio is at 44% ($1,270,000/$2,865,023). Increasing to this capital
structure would also reduce shareholders earnings per share.
BBBY will need to trade off business risk

Mechanisms For Risk Management And Control
Imagine if an agency was able to actually ensure that its officers were safely responding to calls for
service, communicating with the public in a courteous manner, and enforcing the law without
violating the rights of the citizens they are sworn to protect. The thought of providing this type of
oversight and close supervision seems nearly impossible there are far too many officers and far too
few supervisors who already have a myriad of tasks. However, while this might first appear as an
exercise in wish fulfillment, the solution lies in a tool that most agencies are already utilizing: the
body worn camera (BWC).
As more and more law enforcement agencies purchase BWCs in response to the public s demand for
transparency in police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ask the question, Where is the agency bleeding? If an agency has experienced negative media
attention or civil litigation as a result of poor officer performance, this model will help leaders
discover which incidents create the greatest opportunity for the negative results they are trying to
mitigate. Vehicular pursuits, arrests involving the use of force, and confrontations with combative
subjects during mental health related calls are the most prominent areas where law enforcement
agencies have experienced loss. The agency s first step toward employing BWCs for risk management
involves identifying the incident types that have been most problematic for the agency. Review the
agency s loss data to determine what types of incidents historically have had the greatest negative
affect on officer safety and civil liability. Once this high risk critical incident list is generated, agency
leaders should require selected supervisory personnel to conduct a mandatory review of all incidents
that fall under these categories.
Step 2. Deconstruction and Key Performance Indicators
The next step in developing a holistic risk management program using BWC video as core content
involves deconstruction. Deconstruction is the process of separating a complex system into the
smallest subsystems possible to better understand the

(An analysis of the Israeli Palestinian Conflict)
When the Israeli Palestinian conflict is mentioned, many people cringe. This topic is the center of
controversy and the main topic of discussion at peace meetings. Although several meetings have taken
place over time to resolve this conflict, fighting continues to rage on. This dispute between the Israelis
and Palestinians threatens the entire world. Now with access to nuclear warheads and chemical
weapons, this quarrel could easily get out of hand and affect the entire world. Although most people
have heard about the Israeli Palestinian conflict, they do not truly know the history and actual events

country. These peace talks have always involved multiple countries. The United States has always
been involved as well as the presence of the United Nations. The Israeli Palestinian conflict is
currently a global issue that worries many countries around the world. The United Nations held the
first peace talk in 1967 and named the talk UN 242. This talk outlined an exchange of land for peace
(XXX). This talk established some guidelines that future peace talks would bring up. The next
meeting was at Camp David in 1978. This conference expanded on UN 242 and a peace treaty
between Israel and Egypt was signed. Egypt was the first Middle East country to recognize Israel as
an independent country (XXX). There was no more peace talks until 1991 when tenses became
strained between the Israelis and Palestinians again. This talk that was held in 1991 took place in
Madrid, Spain. Several Arab nations were invited to this conference to encourage more peace treaties
with Israel. Shortly after the Madrid Conference another meeting was held in 1993 that was dubbed
the Oslo Agreement. During the Oslo Agreement, the PLO and Israel agreed to recognize each other
as individual states and Israel said they would pull out of West Bank and Gaza. However, there was
much opposition to this plan, so it was only partly put into practice. This agreement can be considered
the most productive meeting between the two warring countries. There was another meeting at Camp
David that took place in 2000. This meeting went over policies that were covered at the Oslo
agreement and attempts were made to speed up the process of peace. The United States encouraged
Israel and the PLO to negotiate where the borders would be put in place. Again, Israel and the
Palestinians failed to agree on these plans and the meeting had no positive

In order to make Oliver s use of pathos effective is to have effective uses of logos and ethos. However,
Oliver relies more on logos than ethos in this segment. In each of his shows, Oliver backs up his
claims by showing studies and news stories relating back to his argument. His segment on the New
York Yankees is no different, as he uses a variety of different sources. For example, when explaining
the Yankees elitist policies, Oliver shows a commercial for the New York Yankees Legends Club,
which is for wealthy season ticket holders. By using this source, he backs up his claim on how elitist
the Yankees are when compared to other sports teams. Oliver s use of the three artistic proofs was
overall very effective and funny, which is especially important towards his audience. The show s
media spectrum falls mainly on the Internet, where about 94% of Oliver s demographic watches his
show, while the audience s top interests are entertainment, media, famous people and societal issues.

While sabotaging the city he was able to sneak through its gates undetected and set fire to the bridge s

Matthew Dodd include proper concealment, guerrilla warfare like maneuvers, keeping a safe distance
from enemy forces, absolute military bearing, and choosing your targets wisely, as well as, knowing
when to fire at those targets. Furthermore, Dodd was very successful with remaining undetected at
opportune moments, as well as, knowing exactly when to increase the distance from the enemy. What
impressed me most was his ability to successfully communicate with allied forces who didn t
necessarily speak his language. He used hand and arm signals to pantomime and gesture what it was
he was trying to get across to his comrades. This trait would definitely fall under adaptability.
Leadership lessons learned from this book: Dodd, as well as the French, possessed some good
leadership skills which could easily be learned from. First of all, Dodd was capable of leading the
Portuguese rebels when he was English speaking and they knew only Portuguese. He used the correct
body signals to instruct his fellow comrades besides the fact that they had such a huge language

Naturally you will want to do some research in to the potential day care providers. Talk to them, view
their web sites, ask questions, get references so you can take a view and get a feel for which one will
be most suitable for you and your dog.
You want to be comfortable that he is in the best hands when he cannot be in yours. You do not want
to send a nervous dog to somewhere which might make his anxiety issues worse so do take your time
to choose the best provider you can. A visit to the provider s premises is also advised so you can chat
to the owner, see if everything is clean and tidy, see how other dogs are behaving and if they are
happy.
It will of course cost to use a doggy day care provider so make sure you have the budget for it. This
alone will not cure any dog separation anxiety issues however used in conjunction with other methods
which you should still work on with your dog, the combination of all can have a powerful cumulative
effect and help your dog to adjust.
Patience is the key when working with a dog with separation anxiety. Many dogs need you to be in

helping them to cope. Find what works best for your dog and go with

Greek Dancing Gender Roles
Section Two: Embodying gender in dance
Reed argues that as gender is performative, performance studies highlights the gender issues visible in
dance (1998: 516). The unconnected cross cultural examples of the rituals of Cuban Santeria, Greek
Wedding, and the Weimer performer Anita Berber illustrates how dance can used to analyse how
performance challenges, as well as enforces gender relations and power structures.
Cowan (1990) explores how gender is embodied in the dance rituals of a Greek Wedding, of which
dance is a large aspect of the event. Greek Wedding traditions are divided by gender, and maintained
across generations by gender (Cowan 1990: 6). The passing down of traditions from elder women and
mothers, to younger brides maintains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the nudity, homosexuality and transvestism incorporating in the performances. Berber s freedom of

citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat
to the population of the city. On the south side of the city there is a three way intersection between the
roads Estes Parkway (running north and south) and Highway 281 (running from the west to Estes
Parkway). This intersection designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and
also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the
light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between
the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and
focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic
light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a
traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to
provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first
solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is
based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in
replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy
understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant
for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from
WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to
be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost
efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection
as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA,
2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection.
WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000

Migrant Farm Workers
Migrant farm workers come to Canada to give themselves a better work opportunity and they believe
that will get the same rights as a Canadian. Globalization has allowed many of these migrant workers
to receive an indefinite status which allows many of these individuals rights that starts problems for
citizenship and human rights. What happens is the Canadian citizenship and international human
rights have allowed these migrant workers to come to work, but these workers find it difficult to
secure their rights that have been organized by SAWP. Gabriel and Macdonald (2014) found that
struggle begins with Canada because they use human rights laws that is embedded into the domestic
laws to help secure citizenship rights, which is better suited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They are alienated as outsiders of Canadian citizenship because they are not a citizen or a member of
the Canadian community, but they do not realize it is just an illusion that has been shown to them.
This also means that these migrant workers are not part of the Canadian society and are excluded for
any rights that a citizen of Canada would have. Gabriel and MacDonald (2014) acknowledges that
Canada s immigration view on migrant worker is referred to as precarious status, which means
programs like SWAP use this status for many of the migrant farm workers because they cannot be a
permanent resident, have the lack of rights and entitlements, and cannot bring any family to Canada.
Due to globalization, there has been a citizenship gap that has been created which allows certain
individuals to have the right to have claims, entitlement and status. This is not universal because
again, migrant farm workers are alienated and excluded from this right. When looking at the struggles
of migrant farm workers face for citizenship rights and human rights, there is correlation that these
struggles are use against them to help Canada secure rights of agricultural

Examples Of Irony In Good Country People
What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there
such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that
they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect
person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are.
Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article
on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception requires
the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1). Being able to
perceive the character of a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In Good
Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that
one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable.
Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite. Typically
in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good Country People.
The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic because she is the furthest
from being joyful. Another example is, Mrs. Freeman. She is not free because she has been hired and
enslaved by Mrs. Hopewell. Another type of irony in Good Country People is how Joy Hulga s
intelligence causes

Pete Maravich
Pete Maravich was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His spectacular moves and
awesome footwork helped him to get better everyday. His incredible passes and being able to control
the court caused his teammates to like him even more. His playground moves, circus shots, and
hotdog passes were considered outrageous during his era (NBA Encyclopedia Playoff Edition). His
love for basketball was instilled by his father Peter Press Maravich. Pete was born on June 22, 1947 in
Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. His parents, Press and Helen Maravich were a big impact in his early life
when it came to basketball. Press Maravich was the head basketball coach for Louisiana State
University. Press was a former professional basketball ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pistol was one of the best (if not the best) ball handlers ever known to play basketball. Passes flew
behind his back and backwards over his shoulder, eyes looking one way and the ball heading another.
His left dribble often twisted defenders onto their heels, the ball flashing smoothly between his legs,
behind his back and through tight openings. Shots came from all angles and distances (Carter). Lefty
Driesell criticized Pete s technique one day at a summer camp. He told him that Oscar Robertson didn
t use flamboyant passes, and still succeeded. Maravich quickly defended his style, saying he wanted to
be a millionaire: And they don t pay you a million dollars for two hand chest passes (Carter). Pistol set
outstanding records while he was at LSU. Throughout his college career he totaled 3,667 points. He
reached an average of 44.5 points for one season and set the still standing, Division One record. He
also had an average of 44.2 for his whole college career. He scored 418 more points than his runner up
Freeman Williams throughout those years. All of this was even harder to accomplish because he wasn
t able to play on the varsity level as soon as he wanted. When he played, freshman weren t able to play
on the varsity level. The three point line also wasn t created yet. No matter how good he was, he wasn
t favored by all people. By some, he was called overrated. Knowing that people were doubting him
just made him want to be so much better.

A Room of One s Own Essay
FOUR
In Chapters Four and Five of A Room of One s Own,, the focus on Women Fiction shifts to a
consideration of women writers, both actual writers and ultimately one of the author s own creation.
The special interest here is one raised earlier in the work: the effect of tradition on women s writing.
Woolf believes that women are different from men both in their social history as well as inherently,
and that each of these differences has had important effects on the development of women s writing.
Women writers, this is to say, have been treated differently from men because they were women; and
this has affected how they developed.
Furthermore, Woolf maintains, women writers are different from men writers because they are

on equal terms with men.
For women, the narrator contends, here begins the freedom of the mind, the possibility that in the
course of time one will be able to write whatever one likes. With Mrs. Behn, writing by women cased
to be a sign of folly and became an activity of practical importance. Money dignifies what is frivolous
if unpaid for she observes, and Mrs. Behn s success in the Seventeenth Century led to very many
women earning money through writing in the Eighteenth Century.
These women became the necessary forerunners of the successful women writers of the early 19th
Century: Jane Austen, the Brontes, and George Eliot.
With the 19th Century writers, one can begin to consider women s writing in a more expanded manner
as a kind of writing that has its own nature based on what it is to be a woman.
First, the narrator wonders why the early 19th century writers were all novelists despite their apparent
differences in temperament. And one answer that she gives focuses on women s common social role.
Functioning at the heart of the family, she observes, women s training inevitably includes the
observation of character and the analysis of emotion. These are faculties women acquire
unconsciously in the course of daily activities and they are more easily put to use in a novel than
elsewhere in fiction.
Domesticity, thus, was not always a disadvantage for women.
However, she goes on to consider, to the extent that women s

Reasons For Appeasement In Ww2
The definition of appeasement is to make a concession to an enemy power to avoid conflict; which it
was supposed to in WW2. Although appeasement is designed to avoid conflict, some believe that the
appeasement in WW2 just created more conflict and ended up lengthening the war. There are
numerous reasons as to why appeasement was the right option for Great Britain and France and as to
why they not only wanted, but needed to appease. Examples of these reasons are the US Separationist
Approach, the damage of WW1 and the lack of army and weapons within Great Britain and France,
which was fuelled by the fact that they didn t expect a war due to Versailles.
When World War 1 had ended, Germany had been at a great loss due to Versailles. They lost

The Battle Of New Orleans Figurative Language
Analysis of The Battle of New Orleans Andrew Jackson led his brave U.S. infantry towards the most
powerful army with uncertainty of who would make it back. The Battle of New Orleans is about a
battle that ended the War of 1812, and Johnny Horton depicts this through using figurative language.
The song written by Horton explains how The Battle of New Orleans was started and how it ended. It
starts off informing listeners that Colonel Jackson was taking his infantry south, following the
Mississippi River. The song then continues to describe how the Americans began firing at the British
in a surprise attack. Jackson s calvary sent the British retreating to the Gulf of Mexico with an
impressive victory. In total only 8 Americans were killed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Positive Displacement Pumps
By allowing fluid to flow into closed cavity from a source with low pressure, trapping the fluid and
then force it into a receiver which is high pressure by decreasing the volume of cavity is the positive
displacement pumps work. P.D. pumps have their own advantages and disadvantages but there are a
few pros and cons of these pumps that are similar to each other.
Advantages of P.D. pumps
A highly viscous fluid can be easily handled by a couple rotary technologies and air operated piston
pumps. In centrifugal pumps their flow rate and efficiency start to drop above 500 SSU. This is due to
high friction losses in centrifugal pump. However in rotary pump, the flow and efficiency will
typically increase with viscosity. In addition, fluids with viscosities more than several millions SSU

Inherently, positive displacement pumps necessarily need safety or pressure relief pumps because the
principle of operation does not include a pressure restriction. However, it is only possible using
complex mass balancing in oscillating positive displacement pumps vibration free operation. Besides
that, compare to centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps which are oscillated are less suitable
for high speeds. It is also a requirement to have a pulsating flow as when the positive displacement
pumps oscillate, it is a pulsation dampener.
The disadvantage in more complicated and complex designs is there are fault prone constructions with
valves that will cause it the stop working at some point. Other than that, in an oscillating positive
displacement pumps, there will be a larger number of wear parts if it is compared with centrifugal
pump. The major disadvantage of positive displacement pump is pump stroke is manually set by
adjusting the collar for determination of the volumes. It is generally less accurate and less easily
repeatable if it is manual

  • 2. Manley Pointer Things are Not Always as They Seem with Good Country People Why that looks like the nice dull young man that tried to sell me a Bible yesterday, Mrs. Hopewell said, squinting. He must of been trying to sell them to the Negros back in there. He was so simple, she said, but I guess the world would be better off if we were all that simple (145). At the end of the story, Mrs. Hopewell considers Manley Pointer simple. Little did she know that this simple man had just caused Hulga severe mental and physical anguish. Her ignorance towards the underlying evil in the world turns out to be her greatest fault. Situations are not always as they seem, and unless one first looks within, his or her weaknesses may be exploited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bible carried by Manley turns out to be nothing more than a hiding place for a pocket flask of whiskey, a pack of cards, and a small blue box with printing on it (135). Joy Hulga appears to be accepting of her situation, but she is still very ashamed of her appearance. In the story, both Hulga and Manley wear masks over their true natures. Their final confrontation, however, reveals Manley to be a cunning atheist while Hulga is exposed as a girl whose naivete sharply contradicts the nihilistic cliches she professes. After the confrontation in the hay loft with Hulga, Manley is revealed as an abuser and a thief, but only to Hulga. There are two types of irony throughout this story, situational irony and verbal irony. Situational irony is found when Hulga is expecting to seduce an innocent, however, it turns out to be quite different. Joy Hulga is easily the most taken advantage of character in the entire story. As her ugly sounding name implies, she appears ugly and evil, but deep down she has a desire for love and happiness. She says, I am one of those people who see through to nothing (115). Little does she know, that she recognizes one of her greatest weaknesses in this statement. Hulga has said one thing but her hidden desires cause her several problems later on. For example, the whole scene that takes place in the hay loft, which is know as verbal irony. Manley was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rcmp Relationship With Aboriginal Peoples Essay Question: Why does the RCMP relationship with Aboriginal peoples continue to decline? Are there any historical ties that have developed this relationship? Is it possible to have a mutual relationship where Aboriginal people and the RCMP can cooperate and work with one another? Thesis statement: to be developed after interviews. Possible Thesis: the continued decline is a result of police hegemony over a perceived second class people. the continued decline is a result of a perceived police hegemony and assimilation through laws and hard police enforcement by First Nations. The continued decline is a result of the Canadian state s political ambition for First Nation assimilation. (The police institutions are not at fault since they have a obligation to enforce and protect the Canadian state.) Plan of investigation: It is the purpose of this essay to conduct an analytical observation through interviews of First Nations individuals, RCMP officers and Academic instructors who have experience in Police First Nation relations. Moreover, the paper will attempt to develop a solution to the Police First Nation relation; a cooperative form of policing. Method of Research: This research essay will be composed of three parts. Firstly, the paper will use analytical research from primary and secondary bibliographical sources; books, biographies, articles, newspapers, government legislative acts, RCMP First Nations treaty agreement, and relative historical events. ... Study Population And Clinical Data STUDY POPULATION AND CLINICAL DATA This study is a retrospective chart review of 360 patients with definite or possible Infective Endocarditis according to modified Duke Criteria [1 2] who were admitted to Detroit Receiving Hospital and Harper University Hospital in Detroit from 2006 to 2014. Both hospitals are teaching hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. For a patient with repeated episodes of Infective Endocarditis, one episode was only included at our institutions. Clinical, microbiological, and echocardiographic data of all patients with definite IE were collected using a standard data collection form. Analysis of Data Analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software system version 22. In table 1, bivariate analysis was used to compare IE patients who died during admission versus those who survived to hospital discharge. Continuous variables were expressed as means ± standard deviation (SD) and binary regression analysis was used to examine the associations between a continuous variable and a categorical variable with two categories. Categorical variables were presented numbers (percentage) and the association between them analyzed using The Chi square test. Variables that achieved a P value less than 0.10 in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression model to adjust the effects of any possible confounding variable. The independent predictors of the mortality were selected using a backward stepwise. RESULTS During the study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. abolitionist stance of prisons Essay Catherine Giguère 5246389 Term Paper #3 Work submitted to Professor Justin Piché In the course Abolitionism and the Criminal Justice System (CRM 4302) Department de Criminology University of Ottawa December 11th 2012 Many individuals believe that the criminal system and its institutions are flawed. These critiques have been brought on by the ineffectiveness of prisons to reform individuals, the ineptness of the system to reduce crime rates, the lack of focus on victims of crimes, as well as the racist, classist and sexist practices existing in these institutions. Therefore, we can ask ourselves if the elimination of the current penal system and the implementation of alternatives would better allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 7) In criminological theories, we saw how police activity is largely geared towards minor visible crimes committed by individuals from the lower stratums of society as oppose to white collar crimes committed by those of higher stratums (Dubé, CRM 3701, 2011). Abolitionists argue that by severely punishing some of the poor in order to deter society from committing crimes; we are only further contributing to the inequalities in today s society. A second key argument advanced for the abolition of prisons is the failure to rehabilitate with imprisonment. Rehabilitation is supposed to permit the individual to be restored to a law abiding citizen, contributing to society. However, abolitionists argue that prisons do not permit this. First, schooling and work within prisons is supposed to allow individuals to become productive citizens in society. However, In many prisons, especially the old ones, the work which is offered is to a large extent meaningless (placing advertisement material in envelopes, folding tobacco packets), or simply non existent . (Mathiesen, 2008, p. 34). This work experience is therefore without benefit to the prisoner upon his release. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Effectiveness And Social Implications Of Privats significantly conflicting perceptions regarding the interpretation of general facts, attitudes towards each sector, and effectiveness and social implications of DOTS. The study suggested that such differences might result in mistrust, differing views on reform propositions, conflicting mind sets about social agendas, and unwillingness to collaborate [5]. Similarly, Slave et al.(2016) found that PPs had contrasting perceptions about the different components of the TB programme such as the feasibility of DOT[6]. In the pilot service linkage project between the public and private sector in TB control in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, Hurtig et al.(2002) found that the public sector, despite the will, did not have the structure or resources to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3]. Mistrust can also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the ground in implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather limited flexibility in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of checks and balances [2]. Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have pinpointed the importance of communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP, NGOs, PPs and other providers. In Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB centre recognised the need for regular contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However, despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular basis, these interactions were inherently unequal and ambivalent. TB HVs were in the awkward position of exercising control over PPs: one the one hand, PPs were the profession they would respect and obey otherwise; on the other hand, the non medical status of the TB HVs limited their interaction with the ... • 7. The Influence Of Barbie Dolls Many children learn life skills from the toys they play with. Legos teach children how to build objects while following direction. Coloring books help kids with motor skills and creativity. Even basketballs, and footballs teach kids teamwork and physical endurance. Barbie dolls show girls that they have to be put together, wear heels, and have the perfect life with the perfect car and the perfect boyfriend. The old Barbie doll was very unhealthy in the way she looked, and this showed girls a bad example on what their bodies needed to look like. New Barbies are made to show what a healthy person should look like. They have new body types like curvy, short, and tall to show that not everyone looks the same. Old Barbies brought young girls confidence down because of their unhealthy body type, while new Barbies, with more body types, skin tones, and eye colors, boost girls confidence. Barbies are a huge part of American girls culture, and their unhealthy body was making young girls less confident. A study showed that after girls looked at Barbies their self esteem went down, while girls who saw a more realistic doll felt no change in their self esteem (APA Staff). This is important because Barbies are a large part of American culture, so if playing/looking at Barbies makes girls self esteem go down, that means many girls in America must have some type of body confidence issue. To add on to this point, the old version of Ken as well as Barbie shows an unhealthy body type, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With my research I expected to find a lot more upfront information, like maybe a for sure area on where they originated and exactly how it spread, but it was so spread out it was hard for anyone to pinpoint exactly who did them first. Fineness And Violence In The Workplace COARSENESS AND VIOLENCE AT WORKPLACE ISSUES AND CHALLENGES Abstract: Workplace coarseness and violence are growing challenges for human resource development (HRD) professionals. The occurrence of violent behavior at work. The frequency, intensity, and duration of coarse behavior should be a concern to leaders in any organization. All too often seemingly isolated and incidents like, instigating a joke can lead to patterns of coarse behavior and it leads to bullying and even physical violence. Many researchers have noted numerous detrimental outcomes of workplace coarseness and violence. A coarse work environment may lead to poor employee health, low job satisfaction, low organizational productivity and commitment, high employee turnover, and poor application of learning at work. Each is a form of aggressive behavior. In as much as coarse behavior is linked to poor individual for e.g. job performance and organizational level outcomes, human resource development (HRD) is increasingly being called to implement useful strategies for dealing effectively with this vital workplace issue. Business risk in the case of BBBY is low if you only consider that the products they sell are produced by name brand companies, so any products needing repair could be sent directly to the name brand company. By passing BBBY and that BBBY has no control over the quality of the products they sell and that there are no significant switching costs. What capital structure would you recommend as appropriate for Bed Bath Beyond? How much financial risk would Bed Bath Beyond face at each of the proposed levels of debt? Capital Structure for Bed Bath and Beyond An analysis of a repurchase of stock for $400 million cash, and recapitalization to 80% debt to total capital by borrowing $1.27 million reveals that BBBYs return on equity will be 113%, return on assets 61% and an after tax cost of debt of 28%. ROE is ROA and ROA after tax cost of debt. With the 80% debt to total capital structure ROE exceeds the other two capital structure scenarios of no debt and 40% debt to total capital. While all of this looks great there are other considerations. The household and personal products industries debt to total asset ratio is 34.69% while BBBY debt to total asset ratio is at 44% ($1,270,000/$2,865,023). • 12. Mechanisms For Risk Management And Control Imagine if an agency was able to actually ensure that its officers were safely responding to calls for service, communicating with the public in a courteous manner, and enforcing the law without violating the rights of the citizens they are sworn to protect. The thought of providing this type of oversight and close supervision seems nearly impossible there are far too many officers and far too few supervisors who already have a myriad of tasks. However, while this might first appear as an exercise in wish fulfillment, the solution lies in a tool that most agencies are already utilizing: the body worn camera (BWC). Ask the question, Where is the agency bleeding? If an agency has experienced negative media attention or civil litigation as a result of poor officer performance, this model will help leaders discover which incidents create the greatest opportunity for the negative results they are trying to mitigate. Vehicular pursuits, arrests involving the use of force, and confrontations with combative subjects during mental health related calls are the most prominent areas where law enforcement agencies have experienced loss. The agency s first step toward employing BWCs for risk management involves identifying the incident types that have been most problematic for the agency. Review the agency s loss data to determine what types of incidents historically have had the greatest negative affect on officer safety and civil liability. Once this high risk critical incident list is generated, agency leaders should require selected supervisory personnel to conduct a mandatory review of all incidents that fall under these categories. Step 2. Deconstruction and Key Performance Indicators The next step in developing a holistic risk management program using BWC video as core content involves deconstruction. Deconstruction is the process of separating a complex system into the smallest subsystems possible to better understand the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Israeli Palestinian conflict is currently a global issue that worries many countries around the world. The United Nations held the first peace talk in 1967 and named the talk UN 242. This talk outlined an exchange of land for peace (XXX). This talk established some guidelines that future peace talks would bring up. The next meeting was at Camp David in 1978. This conference expanded on UN 242 and a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt was signed. Egypt was the first Middle East country to recognize Israel as an independent country (XXX). There was no more peace talks until 1991 when tenses became strained between the Israelis and Palestinians again. This talk that was held in 1991 took place in Madrid, Spain. Several Arab nations were invited to this conference to encourage more peace treaties with Israel. Shortly after the Madrid Conference another meeting was held in 1993 that was dubbed the Oslo Agreement. During the Oslo Agreement, the PLO and Israel agreed to recognize each other as individual states and Israel said they would pull out of West Bank and Gaza. However, there was much opposition to this plan, so it was only partly put into practice. This agreement can be considered the most productive meeting between the two warring countries. There was another meeting at Camp David that took place in 2000. This meeting went over policies that were covered at the Oslo agreement and attempts were made to speed up the process of peace. Political leaders have made a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe. Unfortunately the system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially bring harm to citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat to the population of the city. All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA, 2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection. WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000 ... The special interest here is one raised earlier in the work: the effect of tradition on women s writing. Woolf believes that women are different from men both in their social history as well as inherently, and that each of these differences has had important effects on the development of women s writing. With Mrs. Behn, writing by women cased to be a sign of folly and became an activity of practical importance. Money dignifies what is frivolous if unpaid for she observes, and Mrs. Behn s success in the Seventeenth Century led to very many women earning money through writing in the Eighteenth Century. These women became the necessary forerunners of the successful women writers of the early 19th Century: Jane Austen, the Brontes, and George Eliot. With the 19th Century writers, one can begin to consider women s writing in a more expanded manner as a kind of writing that has its own nature based on what it is to be a woman. First, the narrator wonders why the early 19th century writers were all novelists despite their apparent differences in temperament. And one answer that she gives focuses on women s common social role. Functioning at the heart of the family, she observes, women s training inevitably includes the observation of character and the analysis of emotion. These are faculties women acquire unconsciously in the course of daily activities and they are more easily put to use in a novel than elsewhere in fiction. P.D. pumps have their own advantages and disadvantages but there are a few pros and cons of these pumps that are similar to each other. Advantages of P.D. pumps A highly viscous fluid can be easily handled by a couple rotary technologies and air operated piston pumps. In centrifugal pumps their flow rate and efficiency start to drop above 500 SSU. This is due to high friction losses in centrifugal pump. However in rotary pump, the flow and efficiency will typically increase with viscosity. In addition, fluids with viscosities more than several millions SSU can ... Inherently, positive displacement pumps necessarily need safety or pressure relief pumps because the principle of operation does not include a pressure restriction. However, it is only possible using complex mass balancing in oscillating positive displacement pumps vibration free operation. Besides that, compare to centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps which are oscillated are less suitable for high speeds. It is also a requirement to have a pulsating flow as when the positive displacement pumps oscillate, it is a pulsation dampener. The disadvantage in more complicated and complex designs is there are fault prone constructions with valves that will cause it the stop working at some point. Other than that, in an oscillating positive displacement pumps, there will be a larger number of wear parts if it is compared with centrifugal pump. The major disadvantage of positive displacement pump is pump stroke is manually set by adjusting the collar for determination of the volumes. It is generally less accurate and less easily repeatable if it is manual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
