The Status And Perception Of Women
Literature Review Draft 2
For centuries, the status and perception of women has been a disputed and controversial subject.
Due to precarious political or social standings, even women in power were subject to the judgement
and power of men. When considering the portrayal of exceptional women throughout history, rarely
has a woman been able to fully embrace the stage without reservations. An analysis of research texts
and journal articles reveals and connects the way that a queen of ancient times and one of the
English Renaissance controlled their image, were affected by societal views of women, and were
ultimately depicted. Scholarship on Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I relays the idea that society
and patriarchy led to their respective authorities and depictions. Mary Hamer, author of Signs of
Cleopatra, a historical research text, investigates Cleopatra s cultural significance from her earliest
representations in her own time to her status as a symbol in modern times. In the chapter,
Cleopatra: housewife, she discusses Cleopatra s image between the fourteenth and seventeenth
centuries, a time that spans the invention of the printing press and the proliferance of Elizabethan
playwright, William Shakespeare. Hamer uses the work of Petrarch, Boccaccio, and Jan de Bray,
which was spread rapidly due to the printing press, as a lens to view Cleopatra s image. In regards
to this image, she notes the changing attitude towards women, a result of the Reformation creating

Word Christian Research Paper
What does the Word Christian Mean?
1.What does the word Christian mean in the university s name?
The word Christian has been used extremely, and in some cases strangely, for over 2000 years.
Historically, it was born in the ancient city of Antioch. There, according to Acts 11:26, the
disciples were first called Christians (ESV). Since that first century usage, Christian has defined
religious groups sects, armies, athletic endeavors, political parties, and a host of entities and ideas
which probably would make those original disciples shake their heads in disbelief. The Christian
Vegetarian Association? Wouldn t have dreamt it, Peter could have told Paul, if they both spoke
English.

Evangelical is unique as a Christian identifier in that it describes a movement within orthodox
Christianity which transcends denominational and even confessional boundaries. Evangelicals exist
among Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Lutherans, Mennonites lots of denominations!
Though several people have attempted to define this movement, the most broadly accepted
definition was crafted by British historian David Bebbington. In his book Evangelicalism in
Modern Britain (1989) he noted four distinctive, or characterizations, about evangelicals which
have well described the movement all along its 400 plus year history and throughout all the
denominations and global regions where it is found: conversions, the belief that lives need to be
changed; activism, the expression of the gospel in effort; Biblicism, a particular regard for the Bible
and what may be called crusaderism, a stress on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross (Bebbington,
1989, p. 3). Please note that powerful Republican voting bloc in the U.S. is not one of the
distinctive. Evangelical is first and foremost a historically theological, Christian

Japanese Internment Camps Effects
The bombing of Pearl Harbor had many effects on Americans as well as Japanese during World
War II. One event that followed the bombing of Pearl Harbor that majorly affected the outcome of
the war was the creation of Japanese internment camps. Japanese internment camps were similar to
German camps for the Jewish, but were not nearly as harsh. Americans were wrong in making the
decision to create Japanese internment camps during World War II.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. This
bombing killed many Americans, destroyed one American battleship, and capsized another. A total
of twelve ships were either sank or beached, and nine more were damaged. The attack also

In 1948, Congress passed a law that provided reimbursement for any property lost by those

There were many decisions made during World War II that were far worse than Japanese
internment camps. Even so, Japanese internment camps were a bad decision on America s part
during World War II. Eventually, America realized how awful of a decision it was and reimbursed
the still living Japanese Americans that were interned, but it was years after the war, and was not
enough to make up for internment. Japanese Internment camps were one of the worst decisions
made by America during World War II, and no decision like it should be made by America ever

Enlightenment Ideas Inspired The American and French Revolutions
The American and French Revolutions were both fundamentally based on the Enlightenment ideas.
The main ideas that they followed were by John Locke. His ideas inspired the Americans and the
French to have a revolution. In these revolutions, the Americans had success and the French failed.
The success that the Americans experienced wad due to the protection of rights they had. These
rights are Life, Liberty and Property.? In America a constitution was put together that provided for
a stable government and also a representative government. In France failure was caused by chaos,
terror, fear and war. The French were unsuccessful because they failed to create a democratic ...

What Madison is saying is that factions are going to be in a society no matter what. People are
going to have different opinions. Factions are always going to exist, and no matter what, the
government cannot remove factions because if they do then they are eliminating peoples rights.
The constitution protects against this. ?Liberty is to faction, what air is to fire, an aliment without
which it instantly expires. But it could not be a less folly to abolish liberty, which is essential to
political life, because it nourishes faction, than it would be to wish the annihilation of air, which is
essential to animal life, because it imparts to fire its destructive agency.? This is one reason that the
Americans had success (Ziegler 216).
In order to control the effects of a faction, Madison said that the government needed to have a
checks and balance system. By doing this, factions are prevented from getting too powerful. This is
the reason why the Americans clearly put a checks and balance system in the constitution. In the
constitution, these rights are guaranteed (Ziegler 216 220).
In France, the French were completely against factions. Robespierre thought factions are a threat to
equality, and the ?common good?. He also thought that factions and everyone who had believed in
factions were a threat to the Revolution. ?Hidden internal enemies, with the word liberty on their
lips, stem the flow of life. Despite your benevolent laws,

The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic...
Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is
one of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons
with the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the
possible mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic
processes as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some
of the factors that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a
high fat and low fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon canceras well.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and
colonic cancer.
Methods:
A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of
183 patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having colonoscopy
/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding
demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period
between endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records.
Results:
Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had
adenomas while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. The mean age was 61.1+/ 11 years and 80

Hideyoshi Contribution
ideyoshi
Hideyoshi was an influential Japanese influential feudal ruler, daimyo, throughout the 16th century.
Hideyoshi was known to be a daimyЕЌ, warrior, general, samurai, and politician of the Sengoku
period, and was especially known to have started a new age of in Japanese culture. Hideyoshi
was a highlight of the Japanese feudal era which made choosing an influential person a
worthwhile task. I have personal history with the level of influence his prestige has over history.
His name was once referenced in a conversation between my second generation Japanese American
friend. I was interested in what she told me about the history of her family back in Japan. I will be
using this paper as a conduit to help start my understanding a small portion of Japan history through
researching the famous Hideyoshi and his celebrated achievements
Hideyoshi was believed to born in 1536 in a time of competing daimyo, Japanese samurai lords,
challenging for local and national leadership. Hideyoshi s early life was a natural rags to riches
story. Starting from humble beginnings, Hideyoshi was born into a life of peasantry under the
supervision of his father, Yaemon. His early life is obscure and few stories were told about his
childhood that reflect his future legacy. A story goes that Hideyoshi s mother saw rays of sunlight
fill the room during the this great leader s birth. Another story says that as a child he was able to

The Alaska Lng Project, A Pipeline
I am writing to you in response to the proposed Alaska LNG project, a pipeline that stretches from
the North Slope to the small community of Nikiski, Alaska, that you are currently supporting as
chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural resources committee (Alex Martinson, 2015). Please
realize that I am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to
know that negative environmental and community effects would result from the construction of
facilities associated with a natural gas pipeline and production.
Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important
to me. I have lived in Nikiski, Alaska for the past 11 years, and I would sincerely hate to see this
community and state polluted by large scale LNG production and transportation if it could be
avoided. I also realize the positive economic outcome for the state of Alaska as well as the U.S. as a
whole. However, do these fiscal gains constitute enough incentive to potentially disrupt natural
environments and put Alaska s citizens at risk?
Consider the Trans Alaska Pipeline and crude oil transportation that is currently in place from the
North Slope to the Valdez Marine Terminal. Many oil spills have occurred since it began
transportation in 1977 such as the one that occurred in 2006 that went undetected for days resulting
in 267,000 gallons of crude oil escaping into the environment (Barringer, 2006). Also, in 1989, the

Charismatic theory can help leaders be more assertive; its behavioral quality is easier to acquire
and develop easily. The way charismatic theory can help leaders lead is having charm which is
the foundation of the theory, it s Appeal is valuable for rousing others, driving a group, or
showing and creating individuals, or being a trend setter or a trust raiser. Charismatic leaders
are prone to show up when the social circumstance makes individuals feel troubled. (Jacobsen
House, 2001, p. xx) This shows that charismatic leaders are adjustable towards being a leader in
the workplace or a social aspect being very flexible. The Charming aspect of the this theory can
have constructive outcomes on individual results (e.g., inspiration and self regard, eagerness to
go past desires and participate in organizational work (Campbell, Ward, Sonnenfeld, Agle, 2008,
p. 556 568). This theory can help leaders be more approachable and create an environment where
both leaders and followers succeed in the work place or the social side.
A transformational leader treasures the feelings and respect, the loyalty among their followers and
workers and emphasizes the significance of commitment with projects and group work. (Veiseh,
Esfandyar, Mohsen, Vahid, 2014, p. 113 124). Transformational leaders have a kind of initiative
style that can motivate positive changes in the individuals who take after.

A frame story is a literary technique that contains a story within another story. An article by David
Turner discusses the importance of a frame narrative process, This encounter itself initiates a
humanizing process, enlarging the understanding of the narrator (Turner 128). This is important
because it explains how a frame narrative can give a clear interpretation of the narrator. Also, most
of Neil Gaiman s story is concerned with the narration. This novel is like Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein and Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales because they both have a bunch of small
stories that lead to a larger purpose of the big story. In The Sandman Worlds End, the main character

Sandman Worlds End shows little information about Brant, but it gives more information about the
inside characters. The Sandman Worlds End is told from the first person point of view of Brant.
However, the point of view changes from character to character. Brant tells his story about going to

from the people of the Inn, are other characters telling their stories. These frame narratives are

The Ninety Five Theses Summary
What are the ninety five theses? The ninety five theses was created by Martin Luther. The ninety
five theses was written about the things Martin Luther didn t like about the church. He wrote it in

indulgence.
He did not like the power of pope because he could make anyone do anything he wanted for him.
If you made him mad he could say pay a 100 dollars or you ain t going to heaven. Another thing he
didn t like was purgatory. Purgatory is the place between heaven and hell. Indulgencewas abused

The first two these stated that faith and repentance is the way to get salvation not good deeds and

Just As The Hands Of A Clock Are Constantly Moving, Time
Just as the hands of a clock are constantly moving, time is constantly going about changing society.
Relationships among people have changed significantly from what they were in the past.
Specifically, the way in which people interact has changed drastically. However, the one interaction
has remained relatively the same throughout: bullying. Bullying, a negative interaction, has
produced many statistics. In other words, bullying has made its mark in who the common bullies

On the contrary to the negativity forwarded by the bully, there are aspects that may help children
avoid the drive for power behavior. The alternative to being a bully is an effective member of
society. If a child has the right friend group they will be less inclined to be involved in negative
behavior. By right friend group this means, supportive in nature. Those who are not the alternative
are unfortunate in the matter that they become the victim of bullying. Overweight and obese
children are often bullied. As well as, anxious, socially withdrawn, and aggressive children are
often found to be the victims of bullying. The reasons behind these characteristics being common
amongst victims is because those who are anxious or socially withdrawn are not likely to fight
back or retaliate if bullied. And contrary to belief children who demonstrate aggressive tendencies
fall victim to bullying because their behavior may be interpreted as irritating by the bully. These
children who are victims are victims of many types of bullying.

The Importance Of Environment On The Environment
The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not
aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated
by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results
in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are
naГЇve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through
sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollutionand learn practices at
school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well.
Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will
help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them.
Education
Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help
prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to
understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will
provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both
globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why
and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand
the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of
this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that,
everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is
always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have
created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once
understanding the facts, students will record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin
layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of
places where they will be undisturbed for one week. At the end of the week collect all the

The Lack Of Female Education Contraception
The possibility that a young woman does not wish to have children or does not feel ready upon
marriage is essentially ignored in most developing nations. Should a woman wish to postpone
childbearing, she may encounter difficulties finding contraceptive methods. The most commonly
reported reasons for unmet need [for contraception] are lack of knowledge, health concerns, and
social disapproval (Casterline Sinding, 2000 as cited in Levine et al., 2006). The lack of female
education about contraception in countries where it would be of greatest aid is a major indicator
of why maternal mortality is still such a prevalent issue. In American, woman have to get
prescriptions for contraceptives from their health care providers , and there is a multitude of
information available to women who wish to use contraception (Hansman, 2014). Many women in
poor areas of developing nations do not have regular access to health care providers, resulting in
both lack of information and materials to implement family planning practices. Contraception in
general is a delicate matter due to the stigma attached in societies where high fertility is culturally
valued. Reactions from government policy [or] the way a husband might perceive his wife s use of
birth controlcan be deterrents for a woman to abandon her own desires to refrain from pregnancy
(Hansman, 2014). It can be argued that even if proper contraceptive methods were provided to
women in developing nations, the actual usage is

Characteristics Of White Collar Criminals
White Collar criminals are not typically seen in the same light as regular Street criminals. When
we step back and take a look at what the characteristics are of a white collar criminal, we then can
see these criminals from a different point of view. The characteristics of a white collar criminal
are very different from each individual. The criminals committing these crimes also have to put
in more effort into planning and organizing their criminal offenses. Regardless of white collar
criminals are not typically seen in the same light as our regular Street criminals, their offenses
are just as serious. White collar crimes typically victimized more organizations than they do a
single person. These crimes also have large amounts of offenders and can go on for years, versus
that of the crimes that street criminals commit. White Collar criminals have shown to be
individuals who are typically those who are key team players within their company and choose
to take advantage of their company and the company s resources. It has been shown that most
white collar criminals are older, white males between the ages of 41 and 50. These offenders
were more likely to have jobs, who don t commit as many offenses as typical Street criminals and
tend to start their criminal escapades later in their lives. These crimes are also more likely to be on
a national or International scope, be committed by larger groups of people, happen in patterns,

Stock Dividends, Stock Splits and Reverse Splits Essays
Companies use different methods for paying their stock owners their dividend payments,

Some companies wishing to cut their shares in half might complete a 2 for 1 stock split, or
cutting it into a third might do a 3 for 1 stock split. Usually after a company does a stock split,
the company s share price will increase or decrease. The most common stock split method used
is the 2 for 1 and this usually results in the stock prices being halves, resulting in owning twice
the number of share for halve the original price. A stock split is commonly done by companies
that feel its per share price has risen beyond what an individual investor is willing to pay. They
believe that lowering the market price will make their stocks more affordable for these investors
and thereby stimulate and increase trading activity. Eventually the stock split causes an increase in
the numbers of shares on the market, which lead to decreasing of Earning per Share (EPS). It is
normal for EPS to decline after stock split because EPS = Net Income/ Total of shares outstanding.
Since Net Income will not be impacted by the stock split, EPS has to go down due to increase in
amount of shares outstanding. However, if the company has good expectations about their financial
future, it might not be too concern about decline in EPS. http://www.streetauthority.com/terms/s

Research Paper On Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a neurological condition marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance,
loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It is
the tendency to have seizures that start in the brain. The brain is made up of millions of nerve cells
that use electrical signals to control the body s functions, senses and thoughts. If the signals are
disrupted, the person may have an epileptic seizure(sometimes called a fit or attack ). The brainis the
center that controls and regulates all voluntary and involuntary responses in the body. It consists of
nerve cells that normally communicate with each other through electrical activity. A seizure occurs
when part(s) of the brain receives a burst of abnormal electrical signals that temporarily interrupts
normal electrical brain function. Epilepsyvaries greatly and affects everyone differently. Anyone can
develop epilepsy, at any time of life. It happens in people of all ages, races and social classes....

epilepsy are in the writings of Hippocrates (ca. 460 ca. 377 BC), most notably in his essay titled
On the Sacred Disease, so named because in ancient Greece, the inexplicable cause of seizures
had led to the common belief that the person with epilepsy was periodically possessed by spirits
(in more recent times, demons). Hippocrates denounced such interpretations as charlatanism and
argued that this was a human disease with physical causes. Today, epilepsy and seizures are

Mobile Phones The Death Of Cell Phones
Brandon Marxen English 1A 10 29 17 Cell Phones: The Death of Social Interaction Phones are
quickly becoming the downfall of America s youth in today s society. You can t go out into
public today without seeing children, some no more than a few years old, walking around with
smartphones worth hundreds of dollars. It s a fascinating but unfortunate trend to witness and it
s only becoming worse as time progresses. Kids no longer have to leave the comfort of their
home to hang out and socialize with friends. They can now do everything from their mobile
phone including talk, text, browse the internet, and indulge themselves on various forms of
media. The reasons to go out and socialize are slowly diminishing as companies are finding new
ways to keep people glued to their phone screens. People no longer have the urge to go out and
experience new situations or learn new information. All the information they could possibly want
to know sits in the palm of their hand, eliminating the need for any type of patience. With society
now favoring easier ways of communication, face to face interaction will inevitably become less
and less common. It s a common occurrence nowadays to see a group a friends sitting around on
their phones not talking to each other, especially in younger crowds. Most social media apps like
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram would have you believe that their service makes it easier to
communicate with others. However, just the opposite is true.

racism is being spread through American Citizens self segregation. Though Hanna Guthrie article
presents a clear claim and provides a small amount of factual evidence to support in itself,
ultimately Guthrie article is unsuccessful because she fails to provide an adequate amount of logic

Her third and final claim as stated in the text reads, I think much of the problem today in the way
of racial relations, is with America s obsession with political correctness. (Guthrie 1). Once again
her use of strong emotional appeal to state her claim, conceals and validates her statement which
is truly nothing more than an opinion. She uses the fallacy of appeal to fear, or a Scare Tactic ,
by using words such as obsession and radicalized movements. When Hanna constructed her paper
she didn t use factual evidence, which in turn completely undermines her primary claim. Hanna
Guthrie does anticipate counter augments when she says, As it is, you probably think I m racist
for delivering into this issue to begin with. (Guthrie 1). The author gives another fact when she
says, It s a known fact that things like affirmative action give preferential treatment to American

Conditions Of The Skeletal System
Conditions of the Skeletal System: Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Carlisa Thornhill
Everglades University
Conditions of the Skeletal System: Osteogenesis Imperfecta
The skeletal system is one of the body s most important support systems. When anomalies occur
within the bone structure, the entire body suffers. One such anomaly is the condition known as
osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bone disease. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a hereditary,
genetic disorder of the bones and connective tissues that is most known for causing fragile, brittle
bones which can break hundreds of times in one s lifetime. This rare disease occurs in
approximately 1 in every 12,000 15,000 births (Knipe et al., n.d.) and affects between 20,000 and
50,000 people here in the United States (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, 2015).
The majority of osteogenesis imperfecta cases are caused by a mutation in the genetic coding of
type 1 collagen (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, 2015). More specifically, the mutation is
found in the left handed helix formed by [the] intertwining of pro alpha1 or pro alpha2 chains of
the type 1 collagen fibers [or COL 1A1 and COL 1A2] (Rush et al., 2015). Collagen is a major
protein of the body s connective tissue. Type I collagen fibers are found in the bones, organ
capsules, fascia, cornea, sclera, tendons, meninges, and dermis (Rush et al., 2015).
There are autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive forms of OI that causes the production of

It is not uncommon for individuals to follow the crowd and do something just because it is
popular, especially if it is a group of people who are close the individual. Often the ideals of the
group do not align with the individual s principles but he or she is too timid to voice their
unpopular opinion. This scenario is present during Kingston s childhood. Kingston does not agree
with her familys treatment of her aunt, however, Kingston abides by her family s rules of not

Kingston thinks about her aunt s life and how she became pregnant. At first, Kingston blames the
pregnancy on the aunt. She explains that the aunt took time when getting ready and cared about
her appearance, which was unusual for Chinese women after they have been married. Kingston
describes, Once my aunt found a freckle on her chin... She dug it out with a hot needle and washed
the wound with peroxide (Kingston 328). This leads Kingston to believe that the aunt had an

aunt s marriage Kingston writes, When the family found a young man in the next village to be her

she would his forever (Kingston 326). Chinese women were obedient. Kingston thinks that there
could not be the possibility that her aunt cheated on her husband because she was a dutiful wife.

so that the fear could have been contained (Kingston 326). She reflects on how horrible it must have
been living in such a small community with her rapist.

The Age Of White Collar Crime
Welcome to the age of white collar crime. A time when the words thieves and businessmen go
hand in hand. White collar criminals don t get their hands dirty in their work. They use their heads

rapists and murderers. In these times, even the most seemingly respectable people are suspected of
white collar crimes.
President Clinton and the first lady Hillary Clinton have been tangled up in the Whitewater and
Travelgate business ventures. Although the two have not been formally charged with any
wrongdoing, there is a committee currently investigating their dealings and charges are not out of
the question for either of them. In Michael Isikoff s and Mark Hosenball s Newsweek article

consequences of them: The Senate Whitewater committee is considering asking for perjury charges
against Susan Thomas and Maggie Williams, Mrs. Clintons chief of staff, in connection with her

The Debate Of Nature Vs Nurture
The debate of nature vs nurture is long standing in the world of Psychology. In this essay we shall
look at the different perspectives and theories from the behaviourist and biological approaches and
the objective of this assignment is to discuss the importance of attachment in human development.
To do this we can make reference to the case of Genie who suffered severe neglect as a child.
Behaviourism was first introduced by John Watson who opposed the naturists and took the view
that the mind is there to be manipulated through conditioning methods and so attachments are
learned. However there are theories and studies which counter the argument. The evolutionary
theory of attachment was developed by John Bowlbya psychoanalyst. Bowlby s theories lay in the
nature side of the debate as he believes all actions are innate and we are pre programmed to form
our attachments After presenting all the evidence and theories can any conclusions be drawn about
forming attachments which are so critical for our human development.
The case of Genie drew scientists and psychologists from around the world. Genie had been
discovered at the age of 13 after having endured terrible suffering by her father since early
childhood having been chained to a potty in her room and kept in complete isolation. There was
little communication between Genie and her family, when she was to make noise her father would
beat her and when he did communicate with her he chose to growl and bark like a dog. After

Native American Binary System
Gender is a complex socially constructed idea. Often people interchangeably use gender to refer to
someone s sex. This is not the case. Sex is the biological characteristics that makes someone a
male, female or intersex. Gender however is made up of expression, identity, and sexual orientation.
Gender identity is how one views themselves such as a woman, man or transgender. Gender
identity does not correspond to the sex of that person. Gender expression is how one expresses
their gender identity. This could be through a masculine , feminine or androgynous expression. In

As Europeans came over to the Americas, Native people lost their gender systems and were

as being put to death by dogs. Europeans were shocked to find Native men perform the work of

The Culture Of Australian Aborigines
Australian Aborigines Are People identical or akin when their activities and productions are
alike (Mason 101 117)? Amongst cultures, which are geographically far away from each other
one can find very similar customs, industry, fine art and government or myth. How can it be that
two people that have never seen each other have so many things in common? Although every
single person may have their own identity, characteristics, interests and loves and fears, they are
all still very similar. Instinct sameness is the term for every individual being alike. This can be
seen in the human psyche, which is basically the same for every man and woman. Furthermore,
every human being craves love and seeks survival. Both, coming of age and marriage rituals are
shared by most cultures. While the rituals vary from culture to culture, coming of age rituals are
usually supposed to mark a boy/girl s entrance into adulthood. Safety is probably the number one
affair we deal with and since the coming of age is the time where a boy/girl becomes a lot more
independent, we want them to be safe. Not every culture defines a certain age when someone is
considered an adult, like in the USA where you are an adult once you are 18 years old. In cultures,
where survival is an everyday fight, coming of age rituals are a significant test to tell when a boy
/girl is ready to survive on his/her own. While coming of age is essential, the trait of marriage
offers a lot more varieties and is handled

Visual and Cultural Art
For my visual and cultural arts essay I visited the James E Lewis museum at Morgan State

experience in terms of their social, ethnographical and theological beliefs. This paper will also

further elucidate the meanings hidden in these various works of art. It is my belief that this paper
will not only serve as a guide into the philosophical ideas of the African peoples but will help to
juxtapose these ideas with the often false premise purported by certain groups of society, which
would like to view Africans as primitive and uncultured. My first piece is the Benin bronze leopard.

specifically ancestor reverence. The idea of the society is that the Oba is divine, and as such the

fruitless. He believes he is cursed to have the story of the very end of Heaven carved into his
memory as if it were a cold stone. After all, there was no way he could forget that fatal decision
he made the very last day he had seen his beloved ones before he was considered a traitor and a
murderer in their eyes. The first time he had sinned. It feels like tomorrow when the Great Gates
of Heaven were considered another word for home, family, where everyone was welcomed with
open arms and was granted safety, comfort, warmth, love anything and everything one could dream

Civil War Reconstruction Research Paper
I bet you know about the Civil War but, what about the Reconstruction time period? The
Reconstruction time period was another important part of the Civil War. The reconstruction was the
time period after the Civil War. The Civil War was the war against the north and the south over
slavery and many other different ways of life. The Civil War pretty much smoothed out the
significant differences between the north and south but, that did not mean that the north and south
got along well. The reconstruction started in 1865 and ended in 1877. The Reconstruction time
period left a gigantic impact on northern and southern americans.
During the reconstruction time period the south did not get along very well with the north. The
southerners needed help rebuilding their land. In the Ducksters article it mentioned, Much of the
southern United States were destroyed during the Civil War. Because of this, the north felt that
they should help them rebuild their land. They felt this way because they had just won the war so
they wanted to make it equal. Another reason is they were part of the same country now so they
kind of had to. Those are some facts about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The north was trying to help the south fix their land because they were together now. Also, there
were northerners who tried to make money by rebuilding the south (crops, schools and houses).
These people were called carpetbaggers. They were called carpetbaggers because all they brought
with them to the south was a cheap bag made out of carpets. Carpetbaggers were people who came
down to the south even though the south didn t want their help. The south didn t want the north to
help them because they were going to try to make money while helping them. Though not all
northerners tried to make money off of helping the south. The north helped the south move very far
in rebuilding Those are some of the good and bad things that the north did during the

The Black Church Essay
During the years of slavery in America, slave associations were of great concern to slave owners.
Many members of white society saw Black religious meetings as a threat to white existence.
Despite this, slaves relied heavily on the churches, as they offered a kind of therapy for them, and
as the slaves retained their faith in God, they found protection within their churches. Although the
slaves practiced their religion, the white community did not always accept the slaves as Christians.
An unknown slave said, The white folks would come in when the colored people would have
prayer meeting, and whip every one of them. Most of them thought that when colored people were
praying it was against them. The Church has long been the center of Black communities, and it has
established itself as a great source of religious enrichment and secular development for African...

However, not all of the Black churches share the same aspirations and strategies as others, with
differences reflecting the communities in which the Black Churches reside. In The Negro Church,
the sociologist E. Franklin Frazier said, Methodist and Baptist denominations were separate church
organizations based upon distinctions of color and what were considered standards of civilized
behavior. Black churches are organized spiritually and politically, and they not only preach the
teachings of Christianity but they also touch on the issues of which affect their members. Black
churches have always been known to represent their community, religion, and home. Some scholars
even say that Black history and the Black church overlap to the point that they are almost identical.
The first known Black church in America originated before the American Revolution in 1758 near
the Bluestone River in Mecklenburg, Virginia. Therefore, it was known as the Bluestone

Innocence And Childhood In The Works Of J. D. Salinger
One of the most innocent times in a person s life is childhood. As people grow older, the innocence
of childhood begins to fade and disappear because of the harsh realities of adulthood, they lose their
innocence and become corrupted. Although the transition from childhood to adulthood is tough,
one must remember to savor their innocence and not rush into growing old. J.D. Salinger knows
that innocence cannot stay forever. One day that innocence will become corrupted and destroyed.
In many of his works, he is trying to convey that the time of innocence and childhoodshould be
cherished and held onto tightly.
Throughout Salinger s writings, he displays many similarities between himself and the main
characters. One of the many similarities is his and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was a long time before X could set the note aside, let alone lift Esme s father s wristwatch out of
the box. When he did finally lift it out, he saw that its crystal had been broken in transit. He
wondered if the watch was otherwise undamaged, but he hadn t the courage to wind it and find
out (Salinger, For Esme 48). Esme sends the broken wrist watch of her father s to Sergeant X in
the letter. This shows that she no longer needs a parent figure to rely on and has freed herself from
the adolescent infliction. In Sergeant Xs eyes, the wristwatches shattered glass means that he has
broken the illusion of maturity and can finally come to an acceptance of the world s dark sides. In
the letter Esme sends X, is the broken wristwatch of her

Assessment Of Discourse And Its Effects On Language And...
Dynamic Assessment According to Gillam, PeГ±a, and Miller (1999) assessment of discourse is a
challenging but important aspect of assessing language. They highlight that cultural and
experiential differences may be a factor in a child s performance. Simply, some children may not
have been exposed to these types of narratives or been expected to generate them in their home
environment. The authors suggest that good language learners usually learn the new forms or
overcome the differences with extra classroom support. However, some children with poor
discourse abilities may have more significant problems with learning language. This indicates that
part of the challenge in making assessments of discourse is the need to distinguish a language
disorder from a language difference. The authors quickly dismiss standardized tests as nearly
useless (Gillam, p.35) for children when culture or experience is the issue, due to testbias. Gillam et
al., (1999) also highlight various factors that are difficult to quantify with standardized tests, yet
directly impact language and literacy learning such as attention, engagement, and resilience to
failure. While informal assessments including language sampling are often employed to help assess
a child in more natural settings and with more differentiating tasks, the authors argue that these
observations may still not reveal the underlying source (experience, language learning abilities or
both) of any difficulties. Meanwhile, the risk of

Differences In America-Personal Narrative
There are seven continents, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, Asia, Africa and
Australia. Yet I ve only been to one continent, one town, and I only have one story to tell and it
is about birthday with no friends. Maybe it will be different in America? Maybe I will be
accepted in America, I mean it has to be an adventure, a whole new continent with a whole new
set of adventure. My father starts to pack our outmoded clothing, and vacant dog cage. I had a
flashback to when I was five, and vibrant yellow and orange leaves were gracefully falling to the
cold hard ground. While my rangy dog ,spots, had lumbered through the pile of leaves that my
father had racked into a pile, meanwhile my mother was writing one of her oh so interesting... Show

As I reached down to grab my things from under the seat, I realized that a gore on my skirt had a
giant stain from my ranch dressing on it. Just great I thought to myself. As we exited the plane
we were jostled and thrown around by the other passengers who seemed to be in a rush, and they
were very discord. Once we have made it to baggage claim, we got our bags and headed for our taxi
that would take us to our brand new home. When we were walking towards our car, I saw a
beautiful vista, and it almost made me forget I had a giant stain on my beautiful skirt. When we
pulled into our new driveway, I was transfixed by the pile of junk that laid in front of my grandma s
penury looking house. Once we entered we saw a note taped to the distorted fridge it said I Have
decided to move to Hawaii, but have fun in your new house . I couldn t believe her, we had
traveled all of this way to help her and now she just picked up her things and left. My thoughts were
interrupted by my mother who told me we might as well leave. As we left the house I grabbed a
rather sharp and gold piece of metal out of the pile of junk because it was the exact opposite of me.
It was sparkly I was dull, it was beautiful, and I was

Pavlov s and Erikson s Theories Essay
Ivan Pavlov developed a theory called classical conditioning which proposes that learning process
occurs through associations between an environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus.
Classical conditioning involves placing a neutral signal before a naturally occurring reflex like
associating the food with the bell in Pavlov experiment. In classical conditioning, behavior is learnt
by association where a stimulus that was originally neutral can become a trigger for substance use
or cravings due to repeated associations between those stimuli and substance use (Pavlov, 1927).
The other aspect in classical conditioning is extinction, which occurs when a conditioned stimulus
is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this care is not given to a child, the child becomes insecure and does not learn to trust others.
This stage therefore, brings hope. The second stage is where the child learns autonomy versus
shame. During this stage the child gains a little control of his or her life thus building self esteem
and autonomy. It is in this stage that the child struggles for his or her own control and to separate
from others. The child learns what is wrong and right by the parent s use of no and this creates the
important skill of will. If not dealt with well, the child may develop shame and doubt. Children with
disability may become shameful and doubtful of their conditions if not well counseled and helped
to negotiate through the stage as Davidson Strauss (1992) notes. During the third stage, the child
learns initiative versus guilt, which occurs during the play age. Here, the child learns to imagine
and to cooperate with peers. With the new found freedom, the individual pursues new tasks that will
empower him or her in order to manage the society s expectations. The development of these
attributes may be hindered by guilt resulting to the individual becoming fearful and continuing to
depend on adults.
The fourth stage is development of industry versus inferiority. As the world enlarges for the child,
he or she learns more formal skills in life like how to relate with peers and neighbors,

Tasks Facing The German Woman
Elsa Herrmann believed that the new woman was strong and independent. Women started to stray
away from traditional views in 1930. The Nazis viewed womanhood completely different from
what the new woman represented. As described by Elsbeth Zander, in Tasks Facing the German
Woman, women were to stand by their husband and raise their children to fight for the fatherland.
The Nazis rejected the new womanin order to keep the fatherland in line. While the new woman is
an independent and self reliant person, the Nazis and other German civilians view womanhood as
producing the ideal offspring to support the fatherland.
Elsa Herrmann believed that the new woman was independent and powerful. Previously women
were in charge of cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the children. Day in and day out the
household chores were her responsibilities. In This Is the New Woman, Elsa explains, Then she
collapsed completely, like a good racehorse collapses when it has maintained its exertions up to the

In Tasks Facing the German Woman, Elsbeth Zander states, We women must, through our quiet,
honest work, inspire the German male to do noble things once more! The German woman shall
and must again be worth sacrificing for. Elsbeth believed that women were stronger for staying
by their man and serving their man s needs. This, in a sense, made them worth sacrificing for.
Where Elsa believes that women should have a voice in the system, Elsbeth believes that
women should work quietly in order to achieve greatness. In Elsbeth s eyes a woman is more
desirable if she sticks to the traditional values in life. A woman is supposed to teach the children,
cook the meals, and clean the house. She believed that all of these traits would help rebuild the
fatherland. Women were supposed to be fit to raise the ideal race and to do that they had to
conform to what the Nazis classified as a good

  • 2. The Status And Perception Of Women Literature Review Draft 2 For centuries, the status and perception of women has been a disputed and controversial subject. Due to precarious political or social standings, even women in power were subject to the judgement and power of men. When considering the portrayal of exceptional women throughout history, rarely has a woman been able to fully embrace the stage without reservations. An analysis of research texts and journal articles reveals and connects the way that a queen of ancient times and one of the English Renaissance controlled their image, were affected by societal views of women, and were ultimately depicted. Scholarship on Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I relays the idea that society and patriarchy led to their respective authorities and depictions. Mary Hamer, author of Signs of Cleopatra, a historical research text, investigates Cleopatra s cultural significance from her earliest representations in her own time to her status as a symbol in modern times. In the chapter, Cleopatra: housewife, she discusses Cleopatra s image between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, a time that spans the invention of the printing press and the proliferance of Elizabethan playwright, William Shakespeare. Hamer uses the work of Petrarch, Boccaccio, and Jan de Bray, which was spread rapidly due to the printing press, as a lens to view Cleopatra s image. In regards to this image, she notes the changing attitude towards women, a result of the Reformation creating an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Word Christian Research Paper What does the Word Christian Mean? 1.What does the word Christian mean in the university s name? The word Christian has been used extremely, and in some cases strangely, for over 2000 years. Historically, it was born in the ancient city of Antioch. There, according to Acts 11:26, the disciples were first called Christians (ESV). Since that first century usage, Christian has defined religious groups sects, armies, athletic endeavors, political parties, and a host of entities and ideas which probably would make those original disciples shake their heads in disbelief. The Christian Vegetarian Association? Wouldn t have dreamt it, Peter could have told Paul, if they both spoke English. Evangelical is unique as a Christian identifier in that it describes a movement within orthodox Christianity which transcends denominational and even confessional boundaries. Evangelicals exist among Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Lutherans, Mennonites lots of denominations! Though several people have attempted to define this movement, the most broadly accepted definition was crafted by British historian David Bebbington. In his book Evangelicalism in Modern Britain (1989) he noted four distinctive, or characterizations, about evangelicals which have well described the movement all along its 400 plus year history and throughout all the denominations and global regions where it is found: conversions, the belief that lives need to be changed; activism, the expression of the gospel in effort; Biblicism, a particular regard for the Bible and what may be called crusaderism, a stress on the sacrifice of Christ on the cross (Bebbington, 1989, p. 3). Please note that powerful Republican voting bloc in the U.S. is not one of the distinctive. Evangelical is first and foremost a historically theological, Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Japanese Internment Camps Effects The bombing of Pearl Harbor had many effects on Americans as well as Japanese during World War II. One event that followed the bombing of Pearl Harbor that majorly affected the outcome of the war was the creation of Japanese internment camps. Japanese internment camps were similar to German camps for the Jewish, but were not nearly as harsh. Americans were wrong in making the decision to create Japanese internment camps during World War II. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. This bombing killed many Americans, destroyed one American battleship, and capsized another. A total of twelve ships were either sank or beached, and nine more were damaged. Even so, Japanese internment camps were a bad decision on America s part during World War II. Eventually, America realized how awful of a decision it was and reimbursed the still living Japanese Americans that were interned, but it was years after the war, and was not enough to make up for internment. Enlightenment Ideas Inspired The American and French Revolutions The American and French Revolutions were both fundamentally based on the Enlightenment ideas. The main ideas that they followed were by John Locke. His ideas inspired the Americans and the French to have a revolution. In these revolutions, the Americans had success and the French failed. The success that the Americans experienced wad due to the protection of rights they had. These rights are Life, Liberty and Property.? In America a constitution was put together that provided for a stable government and also a representative government. In France failure was caused by chaos, terror, fear and war. What Madison is saying is that factions are going to be in a society no matter what. People are going to have different opinions. Factions are always going to exist, and no matter what, the government cannot remove factions because if they do then they are eliminating peoples rights. The constitution protects against this. ?Liberty is to faction, what air is to fire, an aliment without which it instantly expires. But it could not be a less folly to abolish liberty, which is essential to political life, because it nourishes faction, than it would be to wish the annihilation of air, which is essential to animal life, because it imparts to fire its destructive agency.? This is one reason that the Americans had success (Ziegler 216). In order to control the effects of a faction, Madison said that the government needed to have a checks and balance system. By doing this, factions are prevented from getting too powerful. This is the reason why the Americans clearly put a checks and balance system in the constitution. In the constitution, these rights are guaranteed (Ziegler 216 220). In France, the French were completely against factions. Robespierre thought factions are a threat to equality, and the ?common good?. He also thought that factions and everyone who had believed in factions were a threat to the Revolution. ?Hidden internal enemies, with the word liberty on their lips, stem the flow of life. • 6. The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic... Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is one of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon canceras well. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer. Methods: A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of 183 patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having colonoscopy /sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period between endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records. Results: Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had adenomas while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. The mean age was 61.1+/ 11 years and 80 +/ 12.2 years for adenoma group and carcinoma group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Alaska Lng Project, A Pipeline I am writing to you in response to the proposed Alaska LNG project, a pipeline that stretches from the North Slope to the small community of Nikiski, Alaska, that you are currently supporting as chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural resources committee (Alex Martinson, 2015). Please realize that I am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to know that negative environmental and community effects would result from the construction of facilities associated with a natural gas pipeline and production. Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important to me. I have lived in Nikiski, Alaska for the past 11 years, and I would sincerely hate to see this community and state polluted by large scale LNG production and transportation if it could be avoided. I also realize the positive economic outcome for the state of Alaska as well as the U.S. as a whole. However, do these fiscal gains constitute enough incentive to potentially disrupt natural environments and put Alaska s citizens at risk? Consider the Trans Alaska Pipeline and crude oil transportation that is currently in place from the North Slope to the Valdez Marine Terminal. Many oil spills have occurred since it began transportation in 1977 such as the one that occurred in 2006 that went undetected for days resulting in 267,000 gallons of crude oil escaping into the environment (Barringer, 2006). Three things he did not like about the church was power of the pope, purgatory, and indulgence. He did not like the power of pope because he could make anyone do anything he wanted for him. If you made him mad he could say pay a 100 dollars or you ain t going to heaven. Another thing he didn t like was purgatory. Purgatory is the place between heaven and hell. Relationships among people have changed significantly from what they were in the past. Specifically, the way in which people interact has changed drastically. However, the one interaction has remained relatively the same throughout: bullying. Bullying, a negative interaction, has produced many statistics. The alternative to being a bully is an effective member of society. If a child has the right friend group they will be less inclined to be involved in negative behavior. By right friend group this means, supportive in nature. Those who are not the alternative are unfortunate in the matter that they become the victim of bullying. Overweight and obese children are often bullied. As well as, anxious, socially withdrawn, and aggressive children are often found to be the victims of bullying. The reasons behind these characteristics being common amongst victims is because those who are anxious or socially withdrawn are not likely to fight back or retaliate if bullied. • 20. The Importance Of Environment On The Environment The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naГЇve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollutionand learn practices at school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them. Education Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that, everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the facts, students will record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they will be undisturbed for one week. The Lack Of Female Education Contraception The possibility that a young woman does not wish to have children or does not feel ready upon marriage is essentially ignored in most developing nations. Should a woman wish to postpone childbearing, she may encounter difficulties finding contraceptive methods. The most commonly reported reasons for unmet need [for contraception] are lack of knowledge, health concerns, and social disapproval (Casterline Sinding, 2000 as cited in Levine et al., 2006). The lack of female education about contraception in countries where it would be of greatest aid is a major indicator of why maternal mortality is still such a prevalent issue. In American, woman have to get prescriptions for contraceptives from their health care providers , and there is a multitude of information available to women who wish to use contraception (Hansman, 2014). Many women in poor areas of developing nations do not have regular access to health care providers, resulting in both lack of information and materials to implement family planning practices. Contraception in general is a delicate matter due to the stigma attached in societies where high fertility is culturally valued. Reactions from government policy [or] the way a husband might perceive his wife s use of birth controlcan be deterrents for a woman to abandon her own desires to refrain from pregnancy (Hansman, 2014). When anomalies occur within the bone structure, the entire body suffers. One such anomaly is the condition known as osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bone disease. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a hereditary, genetic disorder of the bones and connective tissues that is most known for causing fragile, brittle bones which can break hundreds of times in one s lifetime. This rare disease occurs in approximately 1 in every 12,000 15,000 births (Knipe et al., n.d.) and affects between 20,000 and 50,000 people here in the United States (Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, 2015). More specifically, the mutation is found in the left handed helix formed by [the] intertwining of pro alpha1 or pro alpha2 chains of the type 1 collagen fibers [or COL 1A1 and COL 1A2] (Rush et al., 2015). Collagen is a major protein of the body s connective tissue. Type I collagen fibers are found in the bones, organ capsules, fascia, cornea, sclera, tendons, meninges, and dermis (Rush et al., 2015). In this essay we shall look at the different perspectives and theories from the behaviourist and biological approaches and the objective of this assignment is to discuss the importance of attachment in human development. To do this we can make reference to the case of Genie who suffered severe neglect as a child. Behaviourism was first introduced by John Watson who opposed the naturists and took the view that the mind is there to be manipulated through conditioning methods and so attachments are learned. However there are theories and studies which counter the argument. The evolutionary theory of attachment was developed by John Bowlbya psychoanalyst. Bowlby s theories lay in the nature side of the debate as he believes all actions are innate and we are pre programmed to form our attachments After presenting all the evidence and theories can any conclusions be drawn about forming attachments which are so critical for our human development. The case of Genie drew scientists and psychologists from around the world. Genie had been discovered at the age of 13 after having endured terrible suffering by her father since early childhood having been chained to a potty in her room and kept in complete isolation. There was little communication between Genie and her family, when she was to make noise her father would beat her and when he did communicate with her he chose to growl and bark like a dog. After ... Recently there has been a Huge controversy if whether photoshop is serving any justice and if it should be permitted in magazines. Even though photoshop may make people look outstandingly attractive, it should not be allowed in magazines because it lowers the majority of people s self esteem, leads to various types of eating disorders, and makes the model look unrealistic. Photoshop lowers the way most of society views themselves when they see a model who looks perfect in every single way possible. Sex is the biological characteristics that makes someone a male, female or intersex. Gender however is made up of expression, identity, and sexual orientation. Gender identity is how one views themselves such as a woman, man or transgender. Gender identity does not correspond to the sex of that person. Gender expression is how one expresses their gender identity. This could be through a masculine , feminine or androgynous expression. As Europeans came over to the Americas, Native people lost their gender systems and were forced to conform to the binary system. Violence was sometimes carried out on these people such as being put to death by dogs. Europeans were shocked to find Native men perform the work of women, dress like women and have sexual relations with men ( ). These native men were not understood and were labeled berdache which meant male prostitute ( ). Even early anthropologist were not able to grasp the concept of not having a binary system and ultimately associated these men with homosexuality, transvestism, and hermorphaism ( ). The term two spirit was adopted in 1990 to get rid of the term berdache. Two spirit was adopted to get rid of the binary negativity associated with berdache and embrace the spiritual diversity of the Native people. • 39. The Culture Of Australian Aborigines Australian Aborigines Are People identical or akin when their activities and productions are alike (Mason 101 117)? Amongst cultures, which are geographically far away from each other one can find very similar customs, industry, fine art and government or myth. How can it be that two people that have never seen each other have so many things in common? Although every single person may have their own identity, characteristics, interests and loves and fears, they are all still very similar. Instinct sameness is the term for every individual being alike. This can be seen in the human psyche, which is basically the same for every man and woman. Furthermore, every human being craves love and seeks survival. Both, coming of age and marriage rituals are shared by most cultures. While the rituals vary from culture to culture, coming of age rituals are usually supposed to mark a boy/girl s entrance into adulthood. Safety is probably the number one affair we deal with and since the coming of age is the time where a boy/girl becomes a lot more independent, we want them to be safe. Not every culture defines a certain age when someone is considered an adult, like in the USA where you are an adult once you are 18 years old. In cultures, where survival is an everyday fight, coming of age rituals are a significant test to tell when a boy /girl is ready to survive on his/her own. While coming of age is essential, the trait of marriage offers a lot more varieties and is handled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For my essay I have selected key pieces of art that I believe express the African experience in terms of their social, ethnographical and theological beliefs. This paper will also attempt to draw a comparison to key themes features in the African Creation myths, which will further elucidate the meanings hidden in these various works of art. It is my belief that this paper will not only serve as a guide into the philosophical ideas of the African peoples but will help to juxtapose these ideas with the often false premise purported by certain groups of society, which would like to view Africans as primitive and uncultured. My first piece is the Benin bronze leopard. Situated in the African artsection of the James E Lewis museum, if stands out not only as a true testament to workmanship but also as a sort of conveyor of nobility, this nobility which references the monarchy of the Benin Kingdom. The Benin Kingdom is ruled by a king names the Oba. This reverence for the Oba can be noted as a special style of ancestor worship, more specifically ancestor reverence. The idea of the society is that the Oba is divine, and as such the lives of all those who live under his rule revolve around his divinity. This divinity is represented by the various bronze plaques. The leopard has been regarded as a symbol of strength and fortitude for many years in the Benin Kingdom. This bronze cast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Reconstruction time period was another important part of the Civil War. The reconstruction was the time period after the Civil War. The Civil War was the war against the north and the south over slavery and many other different ways of life. The Civil War pretty much smoothed out the significant differences between the north and south but, that did not mean that the north and south got along well. The reconstruction started in 1865 and ended in 1877. The Reconstruction time period left a gigantic impact on northern and southern americans. Many members of white society saw Black religious meetings as a threat to white existence. Despite this, slaves relied heavily on the churches, as they offered a kind of therapy for them, and as the slaves retained their faith in God, they found protection within their churches. Although the slaves practiced their religion, the white community did not always accept the slaves as Christians. Although the transition from childhood to adulthood is tough, one must remember to savor their innocence and not rush into growing old. J.D. Salinger knows that innocence cannot stay forever. One day that innocence will become corrupted and destroyed. In many of his works, he is trying to convey that the time of innocence and childhoodshould be cherished and held onto tightly. • 45. Assessment Of Discourse And Its Effects On Language And... Dynamic Assessment According to Gillam, PeГ±a, and Miller (1999) assessment of discourse is a challenging but important aspect of assessing language. They highlight that cultural and experiential differences may be a factor in a child s performance. Simply, some children may not have been exposed to these types of narratives or been expected to generate them in their home environment. The authors suggest that good language learners usually learn the new forms or overcome the differences with extra classroom support. However, some children with poor discourse abilities may have more significant problems with learning language. This indicates that part of the challenge in making assessments of discourse is the need to distinguish a language disorder from a language difference. The authors quickly dismiss standardized tests as nearly useless (Gillam, p.35) for children when culture or experience is the issue, due to testbias. Gillam et al., (1999) also highlight various factors that are difficult to quantify with standardized tests, yet directly impact language and literacy learning such as attention, engagement, and resilience to failure. While informal assessments including language sampling are often employed to help assess a child in more natural settings and with more differentiating tasks, the authors argue that these observations may still not reveal the underlying source (experience, language learning abilities or both) of any difficulties. Meanwhile, the risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pavlov s and Erikson s Theories Essay Ivan Pavlov developed a theory called classical conditioning which proposes that learning process occurs through associations between an environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. Classical conditioning involves placing a neutral signal before a naturally occurring reflex like associating the food with the bell in Pavlov experiment. In classical conditioning, behavior is learnt by association where a stimulus that was originally neutral can become a trigger for substance use or cravings due to repeated associations between those stimuli and substance use (Pavlov, 1927). The other aspect in classical conditioning is extinction, which occurs when a conditioned stimulus is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second stage is where the child learns autonomy versus shame. During this stage the child gains a little control of his or her life thus building self esteem and autonomy. It is in this stage that the child struggles for his or her own control and to separate from others. The child learns what is wrong and right by the parent s use of no and this creates the important skill of will. If not dealt with well, the child may develop shame and doubt. Children with disability may become shameful and doubtful of their conditions if not well counseled and helped to negotiate through the stage as Davidson Strauss (1992) notes. During the third stage, the child learns initiative versus guilt, which occurs during the play age. Here, the child learns to imagine and to cooperate with peers. With the new found freedom, the individual pursues new tasks that will empower him or her in order to manage the society s expectations. The development of these attributes may be hindered by guilt resulting to the individual becoming fearful and continuing to depend on adults. The Nazis viewed womanhood completely different from what the new woman represented. The Nazis rejected the new womanin order to keep the fatherland in line. While the new woman is an independent and self reliant person, the Nazis and other German civilians view womanhood as producing the ideal offspring to support the fatherland.
