THE LABOUR PARTY LOST 4 GENERAL ELECTIONS BETWEEN 1979AND 1992. THE
CONSERVATIVE PARTY LOST 3 GENERAL ELECTIONS BETWEEN 2005. WHY?
An extract from Arthur Marwick British Society Since 1945 :
The fall of Labour Party: the labour government has had a very difficult time leading to the general
elections of 1979. The years between 1976 79 proved to be intense ones, filled with economic
problems, intensified with labour movements looking to rejuvenate. This led to the party changing
some of it s policies and its position changed. The changes led to a division in the party: some
members saw the party was being radicalised; therefore, they opted out of the party.
The government saw unemployment grew, inflation was at an annual 8.6 percent, ... Show more

Essay On American Exceptionalism
Throughout the course of American history, how the population chose to act and react when in various
situations gradually developed the idea of American exceptionalism, in the process bringing out both
the best and worst in American society. Acts such as the mistreatment of the Native Americans showed
how American supremacy came across as arrogant at times; events such as the terrorist attacks of 9/11
showed how American exceptionalism has the ability to bring a society together during times of
hardship. In his sermon, A Model of Christian Charity, John Winthrop proclaimed that their settlement
should be a city upon a hill (24). Being part of a new generation of Puritans, Winthrop believed that
they were God s chosen people , and therefore responsible for setting an example by creating a beacon
of righteousness that all others are to admire (24). Surely this idea of Puritan exceptionalism was
inspiring at the time; many soon to be colonists aspired to gain their agency as could play a large role
in rais[ing] a bulwark against the kingdom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With intentions of having supremacy in various industries, many colonists fell victim to their egos
when intentionally killing natives with smallpox and other European microorganisms (31). Often, the
warped concept of American supremacy stimulated many colonists egos, bringing the worst out of
them. The Pequot War is another perfect example American supremacy being expressed in the form of
arrogance; from the colonists lust for power, lust for land, and...greed, they committed mass killings
and burn Pequot babies to give them full control and dominance over the Pequots (166). While they
benefitted their New England settlements, they killed off ninety percent of the Native American
populations

The Writings Of Karl Marx

December 11, 2014
Final Paper: Question #9 The writings of Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim each set out to
discuss how an individual is connected to their social standing within society. Along with how social
classes form their beginnings. Each of their theories are complex and require thorough analysis in
order to fully understand their point of view. How social class is obtained in the United States is the
question being posed. I will discuss which theory I personally think is best and most applicable to our
modern society. I will thoroughly compare and contrast the works of Marx, Weber, and Durkheim;
along with pointing out strengths and weaknesses in all three. It is first important to understand the
meaning of social class. Sociologically speaking, the term social class is a way to divide individuals
based upon their economic and social standing within the larger system of economic production. In
the United States, the five most common social classes include: upper class elite, upper middle class,
lower middle class, working class, and poor. It is assumed that the more money one has, the higher
their class status will be however there is always the possibility for outliers. Social class controls
several aspects of our lives and is an extremely important factor when determining potential
opportunities. Karl Marx is a sociological theorist who had great influence over how we currently look
at social class. According to Marx,

Sameness In The Giver
In, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, The Giver does something that contrasts to what he would normally do
by giving Jonas a bad memory. This helps develop the plot and a theme in the book. Normally, The
Giver gives Jonas memories of nice things, but now, he has begun to give him memories of conflict
and death. This shows that life was not actually perfect, contrary to what Jonas had believed when he
was getting memories of sun and snow. Getting only good memories made him confused as to why
Sameness was necessary or believed to be. In the book it states, It was a sound of rage and grief and it
seemed to never end, (100). As can be seen, Jonas experiences pain and disbelief from what he had
saw. An elephant had been hunted and shot. This is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, The Giver is trying to explain to Jonas why people thought we needed sameness. It looks
like The Giver is trying to get Jonas to understand another perspective on why sameness was need and
choices were taken away, though he himself may not actually believe that it was the right decision. To
add to the theme stated above, getting rid of choices, although eliminating possibly wrong choices,
should not be forgotten and locked away, but instead used to ensure the mistake is nti made twice.
This conclusion was made because Jonas makes a realization that he wants the new child that lives
with him to be able to pick what he wants. Jonas still has not received everything and The Giver is
trying to let him think of thing in all perspectives and see everything, so he can come to a conclusion
on what Jonas feels was wrong. When the Giver suggest the reason that choices were taken away was
fear that people would choose wrong, Jonas semmes to understand, but it seems that he wants people
to know of the past, like when he tells his sister of elephants. This seems to be more evidence that
Jonas believes memories should not have been taken away and people should have choices of how to
fix their

Optical Filters Used For Edge Detection
In image processing, a Gabor filter, named after Dennis Gabor, is a linear filter used for edge
detection. Frequency and orientation representations of Gabor filters are similar to those of the human
visual system, and they have been found to be particularly appropriate for texture representation and
discrimination. In the spatial domain, a 2D Gabor filter is a Gaussian kernel function modulated by a
sinusoidal plane wave. Simple cells in the visual cortex of mammalian brains can be modeled by
Gabor functions.[1][2] Thus, image analysis with Gabor filters is thought to be similar to perception in
the human visual system. A set of Gabor filters with different frequencies and orientations may be
helpful for extracting useful features from an image.[7] In the discrete domain, two dimensional
Gabor filters are given by, G_c[i,j]=B e^{ frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}cos(2pif(icos heta+jsin heta))
G_s[i,j]=C e^{ frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}sin(2pif(icos heta+jsin heta)) where B and C are
normalizing factors to be determined. 2 D Gabor filters have rich applications in image processing,
especially in feature extraction for texture analysis and segmentation.[8] f defines the frequency being
looked for in the texture. By varying heta, we can look for texture oriented in a particular direction. By
varying sigma, we change the support of the basis or the size of the image region being analyzed.

Dr. Henry
Tiffany,
Good post on defining environmental consciousness, you mentioned scientist and scholars alike
understands and in need of people who put more thought into how products are manufactured. You
gave good examples listed in your paper. You mentioned it is about having awareness of what an
individual is putting in the environment. I found that prior research indicates that people vary in levels
of environmental consciousness depending on their sociodemographic characteristics (Ying Chang

I agree the Internet is a great platform individuals are given to socialize and transfer information. It
has enhanced our environment worldwide. You mentioned a solider didn t have the accessible
resources to connect with he/she family, but in today s society that option is available for Skype to
visually connect over the internet. I found the internet of things has a major impact in our future of
mankind and on the daily life of the individuals, we are part of a world where everything has the
potential to be connected. As a matter of fact, it is estimated by garner that by 2020, the installed base
for the internet of things will exceed 212 billion and will be over 30 billion of connected things
(Hucanu Georgescu, 2016). The examples of the soldier, gospel, virtually around the world were great
examples that you incorporated in your paper. I agree it s important to protect the copyright laws. You
mentioned individual earning royalty for their music and it s important to ensure copyright with the
music. I found this to be true because Copyright in a song is different from many other works. Each
song holds two copyrights: a copyright in the sand recording and a copyright in the musical
composition (Conte, 2017). Fischer explains how we should follow rules and it shows respect. In
Matthew 7:12 (ERV) says, Do for others what you would want them to do for you . As it is so many
creative people in the music industry it s imperative to treat people how you expect to be

Alan Alexander Milne also know as, A. A Milne was a famous English writer throughout his life. One
legacy Milne left behind, was the short story series Winnie the

iconic figures in children s literature(citation).
The popular success books that Milne was best known was, Winnie the Pooh and The
House at Pooh Corner. The two volumes identified the adventures of a young boy named
Christopher Robin, after Milne s own son, Christopher Robin Milne and his animal playmates, who
were inspired by the real Christopher Robins stuffed toys. A bear, named
Winnie the Pooh was the main character, accompanied by fussy Rabbit, gloomy donkey
Eeyore, bouncy tiger Tigger, kind kangaroo Kanga and her baby Roo along with the wise
Owl, and shy Piglet.
All in all, Milne left behind a legacy of novels and short stories such as , Peace with Honour, which
was an anti war novel, and his autobiography, It s Too Late Now, but the biggest legacy he has left
behind, is his children stories about the adventures of

Summary Of Legalizing All Drugs
The main goal of this article is to provide the moral and economical arguments for legalizing all drugs
in the United States. The article begins by suggesting there is a cultural shift moving throughout the
United States regarding the use of marijuana however, also reveals that the majority of people still do
not support legalization of harder drugs such as heroin or cocaine. The author cites two polls which
compare the 58 percent of Americans that support marijuana legalization to the only 10 percent that
favor legalization of heroin or cocaine. The author then proceeds to explain that if the ultimate goal is
to minimize harm to users of drugs, then the right approach is to legalize them all. The article contains

Miron is the Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Harvard University as well as
the Senior Fellow and Director of Economic Studies at the Cato Institute. The author s current jobs
and positions at these prestigious schools proves that he is credible. Miron s main field of study is
economics which also displays that he knows what he is talking about and is not just trying to
advocate for recreational use of drugs. Although Miron is a clear advocate for the legalization of all
drugs, he backs up all his claims with evidence and is clearly well researched about this issue. This
article was written in 2014 and has appeared on both Cato Institute s website and in Time magazine.
To make sure people do understand the risks, Miron should have also provided the death statistics of
people who have overdosed on currently illegal drugs. Although many of these deaths are because of
the current war on drugs, the information would ensure that people understand the possible dangers
that come with legalization. This is, without a doubt, a credible source as it was written by a well
researched individual who is one of the few people voicing the truth about the failure of prohibition in
this country. It is hard to challenge the current drug policies especially when the majority of people do
not support your proposed changes, however, the author did an excellent job of offering an alternative
opinion with the support of

History Of General Electric Company
History of General Electric
General Electric was founded by Thomas A. Edison in 1878 as the Edison Electric Light Company. In
1892 it merged with Thomson Houston Electric Company to create General Electric as we know it
today. The mission statement of General Electric is to work on things that matter. General Electric
employees will reference this as GE Works.
Strengths and Weaknesses
A strength of General Electric as a company is the resources that they have working at the company.
They have over 300,000 employees and they all come from different backgrounds. This helps the
company be able to spread around the world, because they have employees from that come from all
different countries around the world. According to information ... Show more content on

General Electric s next strength as a company is the amount of cash and liquid funds it currently has.
According to the YCharts site, General Electric currently has 137 billion in liquid funds (YCharts,
2014). This is one of GE s strengths as they are able to recruit and buy other companies with that
money which also would be an opportunity for them. The cash on hand helps them out if there is
another recession as General Electric would have that money to help counter any loss of profits and be
able to inject that money into the company.
One weaknesses of General Electric is the size of the company. It is a challenging task to manage a
conglomerate. General Electric s main business units are GE Aviation, GE Capital, GE Corporate, GE
Energy Management, GE Appliances and Lighting, GE Healthcare, GE Power Water, GE Oil Gas, and
Transportation. As you can see that is a wide variety of businesses. They all have their individual
strengths and weaknesses also, but Jeff Immelt the CEO has to manage it as one giant company as
General Electric.
An action that General Electric can do to lower the risk of this weaknesses is getting rid of a business
sections that hurt the company overall. These business units could still be very profitable, but if it
hurts the overall vision of the company then action has to be taken. They can do this by either selling
the business unit or spinning it off into its own business. Both of these actions

Varities of Violence Essay
The books Child of the Dark by Carolina Maria de Jesus and Testimony by Victor Montejo describes
the lives of two individuals from different societies. In both of these societies there was much hardship
and violence. The two main characters who wrote these books describe life through their point of view
and explains the hardship and challenges they had living in a society filled with violence. Victor
Montejo lived in a society that was a very poor area. The village was located in Guatemala. Though he
lived outside of this village it is where he spent most of his time since he was the schoolmaster. The
people in village were very poor and believed in community as a way of life. The villagers were out to

Those people ranged from low end soldiers who made their money by raiding villages. To higher end
lieutenants. To become a lieutenant for the governments military it seemed as though you had to kill as
many people as possible. Outside of the governments military their were bands of guerillas who
fought to bring a new government and change to the Guatemalan society. They would attempt to do
this by fighting against all people who they saw is believing the government was right. The other type
of people in the society around them was the government workers and officals themselves who
promised all these small villages such great things but just keep the money themselves instead. If you
were defy the government you would be killed, imprisoned or tortured.
Carolina Maria de Jesus in many ways lived off in a worse society then Victor Montejo even though
their were some similarities. Carolina lived in a area in Sao Paulo with her three children. In this story
it was referred to as a Favela, which is technically a slum. Really it is more then a slum it really means
you are secluded from the rest of society in a area where it is almost impossible to get you and your
family out of. In this type of area to make money many people including Carolina herself would have
to collect aluminum, paper and cardboard or anything else you could find to sell for a little bit of
money to support yourself and your family. Usually the money made from this type of acts would be

Torture Is Always Wrong Analysis
The author, Melissa Mae, explains the issue, along with the opposing sides, clearly. Mae begins the
essay by introducing the issue. She says the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib gained attention around
2004. Americans became concerned when they found out the government was using torture and were
extremely upset about it. She states that people believed torture was being used as a part of the
government s interrogation of war on terror detainees. Though she tells the readers what the issue is,
she never fully explains it. She only tells us that the essays she wrote about were written around the
time the debate was heating up. A positive trait about this essay is that she stated the issue in the first
paragraph.
Not only does Mae give examples from both sides, but she also includes many quotes that keep the
reader interested. She writes, Whereas Bagaric and Clarke think saving lives justifies torture, however,
Johnson believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mae gives the same amount of examples from each side of the argument. Whenever talking about one
writer, she also adds input from the other writer. Mae says, Bagaric and Clarke, in their turn, anticipate
Johnson s argument and refute it by arguing that those who believe (as Johnson does) that torture is
always wrong are misguided. This helps the reader understand both sides of the argument equally. The
writer gives an interesting aspect to the essay. She makes her point clear to the audience, which makes
the essay readable. In the essay, Mae adds fascinating details to keep the reader interested. When the
essay begins to get uninteresting, she adds a detail that makes you want to continue reading. Paragraph
two is a prime example of this. Mae gives a few facts about the authors, loosing interest from the
reader, and then proceeds to add the common ground at the end of the paragraph. Adding the common
ground there persuades the reader to continue

A Sample Of 102 Full Time Business School Faculty At A...
Stumpf and Rabinowitz (1981) studied career stage and performance in a sample of 102 full time
business school faculty at a large north eastern university, hypothesizing that the relationships between
role perception, job satisfaction and performance would differ across career stages. They used Hall
and Nougaim s (1968) three stage model: 1. The establishment stage included those in the profession
two years or less, 2. Advancement included faculty with between two years and ten years experience,
and 3. Maintenance included faculty with more than ten years experience. The faculty completed
questionnaires on their satisfaction with work, promotion, pay, and co workers; role conflict; and role
ambiguity. Performance measures included publications, student evaluations of teaching, peer
nominations for excellence, and salary change. The authors developed hypotheses, based on
developmental theory, about how attitudes and perceptions would relate to performance at the various
stages. The establishment stage, for example, should be characterized by a strong positive relationship
between satisfaction with work and performance measures. This reflects the primary task of the
establishment stage, that of learning the ropes. Faculty who express satisfaction with their work at this
stage must be comfortable with the new position and could be expected to do well on performance
measures. In contrast, the advancement stage should show a strong positive relationship between

Cat s Eye By Margaret Attwood
In the book Cat s Eye by Margaret Attwood, Elaine s identity and her perceived sense of self is
unique. The positive and negative experiences in her life have helped shape it. My own life
experiences have also shaped me into the person I am today. Our childhoods and our nurturing during
this crucial time has a powerful impact on what kind of individuals we turn out to be.
Elaine s experiences as a child had a large impact on the development of her identity. Before moving
to Toronto, Elaine was very content with her life, even though she had a few friends. She was happy,
until we moved to Toronto (Atwood 27). Elaine s difficulty of socializing with others is with her
childhood experience. Elaine retells that she was put into the hole [as] it was a game; now I know it is
not one. I feel sadness, a sense of betrayal. Then I feel the darkness pressing down on me; then terror
(Atwood 143). Her innocence was taken for granted from her friends . She believed that Cordelia,
Grace, and Carol were going to help her become one of them. Instead of telling an adult figure what
has happened she copes, and eventually it destroyed her self esteem. All of these experiences are the
defining moments of Elaine s life. These have all contributed to the development of Elaine s identity
and personality. My experiences and relationships during my childhood have also developed identity
as a young adult.
My childhood experiences have also had an impact on my identity. Like Elaine, I

Rotavirus Vaccination
This journal article reports about rotavirus vaccination in terms of kinds of it and its performances.
There are many types of childhood disease. One of them is rotavirus. The reason why children suffer
from this disease rather than adults is that they have weaker immune systems. Rotavirus is transmitted
through various ways such as unclean hands or impure water. Before rotavirus vaccination, many
infants used to die from this. However, this is one of the most common causes of preventable
childhood disease these days so it is important to know this vaccine.
Rotavirus vaccination did not prevent its virus perfectly at first though it is easy to protect from it now.

Process Essay On How To Connect With A Horse
To become a better rider it is necessary to learn how to connect with the horse, be constantly working
to be better, to learn from other and stay competitive. Your aids, which are your leg, your hands, your
reins and your voice, are all very important for connecting and communicating with your horse. You
cannot be a rider without a horse. Hard work and a willingness to learn are imperative to become a
better rider. Learning from others is a good way to learn yourself. You can watch their mistakes and
learn how you can fix them yourself Riding a horse is more than just sitting there, its connecting with
your horse through your aids. Aids are the most important for connecting with your horse. You have to
communicate in a way that the horse understands. Most horses are trained to respond to aids like your
leg, your hands, the reins, and your voice. The leg refers to your whole leg, from your hip to your
heel. Your leg is your support for your horse. It tells him to go faster, or slower, to turn, or jump and it

Attitude is important for both you and your horse to understand each other. If you are upset, your
horse can sense this, and it puts him on edge. You being upset communicates to him that you are not
happy, which makes him nervous because your attitude is unpredictable. This also goes for if you are
happy, sad, angry or excited. Your voice is a very important communication device for connecting
with your horse. Your voice can tell him you are upset with him when he does something wrong, or
that you are happy with what he has done. Voice is also important for telling a horse to calm down
with words like easy and steady . It can also tell them to change gaits with a simple kiss click or whoa

Juvenile Offenders Have A Complicated Status
In the legal world, juvenile offenders have a complicated status. Not yet quite adults, with less
understanding of laws, there is a complicated balance that must be struck between their having to
answer to their crimes and holding them accountable for their actions while still being cognizant of the
fact that they do not always possess the mental capacity to fully understand their criminal behavior as
wrong. Juvenile courts today attempt to balance the punitive and rehabilitative needs of youths. One
such way to do this is the development of juvenile diversion programs. In Trevor B. Milton s book
titled Overcoming the Magnetism of Street Life: Crime Engaged Youth and the Programs that
Transform Them , the term diversion is used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Kentucky Court of Justice article titled Court Designated Workers Make A
Difference , juvenile diversion can consist of restitution, community service, curfew, counseling,
educational seminar attendance, and drug/alcohol assessments (2014). An example of a current
jurisdiction implementing diversion for youths is the Kentucky Juvenile Court. In Kentucky, as with
other states, detained youths entering diversion are placed into several programs to get their lives back
on track. These programs stem from law related education to other programs, such as leadership,
community outreach, being all you can be, making it on your own and creative arts (2014). The basic
goal of juvenile diversion is to educate youth, instill a sense of accountability, and lessen deterrence. If
compliance is met, cases are dismissed and formal proceedings become unnecessary (2014). Indeed,
as summed up by Milton, the main objectives of juvenile diversion are to avoid labeling, reduce
unnecessary detention and incarceration, reduce repeat offenses, provide counseling and other
services, and to lower justice system costs (Milton, 2011, p. 32). According to Randall G. Shelden and
Daniel Macallair s book titled Juvenile Justice in America: Problems and Prospects , the authors claim
that certain petty behaviors only serve to stigmatize youths should be taken out of the juvenile courts
entirely (Shelden Macallair, 2008, p. 198). For instance,

How Did John Marshall Influence His Government
Background: Born on September 24, 1755 in Virginia, John Marshall started his life pursuing the
practice of law and held multiple political positions throughout his life. He was a lieutenant and later
captain of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. After 1781, Marshall left his military
position to pursue law. Even though his formal training was short lived, Marshall began his law career
in the 1780s. He became a member of the Virginia House of Delegates in the early 1780s. In the
Virginia Convention, he wanted to disband the Articles of Confederation and acted in favor of the
newly proposed U.S. Constitution in 1788. He declined offers to become an attorney general under
Washington in 1795 and Minister of of France in 1796. He also declined a membership as a part of the
U.S. Supreme Court in 1798, as he still focused on his private practice. During his era, the prominence
of the Federalists arose. As the Federalist Party strengthened in the 1790s, as did its opposers, John
Marshall became a key leader for the party. The Federalists believed in a strong central government ...

A Natural Start Of Life
A natural start to life:
Aristotle, a famous philosopher, believed in the notion of spontaneous generation, the idea that life
could arise from inanimate objects. Louis Pasteur famously dispelled this theory, when he showed that
organisms will only arise if the parental species is initially present in a closed system. However, this
conclusion relates to the generation of new organisms from parental ones, not the origin of life itself.
The first organism had no parental species, therefore the organism had to have originated from non
living matter. Stanley L. Miller kick started the study of the origin of life with his famous 1953
prebiotic soup experiment in which he took a mixture of reduced gases believed to represent the
atmospheric conditions on primordial Earth and reacted them together in a spark discharge apparatus.
The results were surprising, with a mixture of biochemically relevant organic molecules
spontaneously being formed, including amino acids an essential building block of life. Miller s results
showed that organic molecules could be generated from inorganic ones, a finding that inspired the
modern era of understanding the origin of life and challenged common perceptions. Now, in the dawn
of the 20th century, there are two main theories that dominate the field, the metabolism first theory
and the RNA world theory. The term RNA world was coined by in 1986 by, Walter Gilbert; however
the idea of independent RNA life can be traced to Carl

Media Coverage Of Afric The True Nature Of The Culture And...
Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely
completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation
of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in
first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the
culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole
continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A
satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild
landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying
babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain
light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in
general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in
particular are notorious for painting the picture of a poverty stricken continent that needs to be saved
and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday. A recent

Foil Characters In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare is the greatest playwright in the history of the world, and one of his most famous
tragedy plays is Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about two star crossed
lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Their families are in a feud and brawls have taken place
between these two families. Romeo s personality can be viewed differently from different parts of the
play with the other characters he is around. At one point of the play he can be seen as a positive,
tranquil man and the next moment later he is a vicious, stubborn person. Using foils Romeo s
character is developed by contrasting through Friar Laurence s wise personality, Balthasar s loyal
personality, and Benvolio s peaceful personality. Friar Laurence develops Romeo s character through
his wise personality making Romeo look stubborn. Romeo demonstrates as being stubborn when he
finds out he is banished and is willing to kill himself by saying, Wert thought as young as I, Juliet thy
love, an hour but married, Tybalt murdered, doting like me and like me banished, then mightst thou
speak, then mightst thou tear thy hair, and fall upon the ground, as I do now, taking the measure of an

John Scopes Inherit The Wind
Inherit the Wind Rough Draft The Play Inherit the Wind is very similar to many different events in
history, such as the Scopes trial, or even the McCarthy trials. In the famous Scopes trial or Monkey
trial, John Scopes was caught teaching evolution to his biology students. Not long before the trial,
Darwin s Theory of Evolution had been published. Darwin s novel contained a newly formed idea that
man was created from gradual evolution. The idea caused an outrage from several Christian religious
groups, because it went against the book of Genesis in the Bible. This discontent grew so much that
the state of Tennessee passed a law on evolution. This law prohibited the teaching of evolution, with a
$500 dollar fine per violation. The Scopes trial led the most famous lawyers of the time to ... Show

To break this law was a minor offense, but it would shake America. Scopes lost the trial, but he
showcased a point to the world. The play writers used the Scopes trial to warn of the McCarthy trails,
which were happening when it was written. He argued that he had the freedom of speech to teach what
he wanted. This is very similar to Inherit the Wind in which Bertram Cates, also intentionally breaks
the laws because he believes that he should be able to teach what he wants. In the play, the prosecutor,
Mathew Harrison Brady, is a very religious man who believes very strongly in the Bible. He is a priest
and basks in popularity and adoration. He is very similar to the prosecutor in the Scopes trial, who is
also a religious and popular man. Through the play Inherit the Wind, Mathew Harrison Brady held
onto the old ways too tightly, he built his beliefs and life around love and adoration from others, and

Diversification: since inefficiency in markets often exists, diversification through acquisition can be
achieved (in addition to diversification through securities). Eat or be eaten: especially in markets with
a lot of structural changes and diverging sizes of companies the question arises, whether one wants to
make an acquisition or be acquired. Nevertheless Shim and Siegel (2006; pp. 230) stated that mergers
have several disadvantages as well: Earnings per share: Should be greater or equal as after the merger,
which often is not the case. Market price per share: should be bigger or equal after the merger, which
often is not the case. The culture within the two companies can be totally different, making integration
difficult and costly. Need, in order to succeed, of a reduction of the labor force, which potentially can
cause reputational damage and lower employee morale for the new company. Numerous econometric
studies of bank scale and scope economies, efficiency and mergers in U.S. banking have been
conducted (Berger and Humphrey, 1994). Berger and Humphrey (1994) stated that economies of
scale, economies of scope and x efficiency are generally able to increase the efficiency of a company,
whereby x efficiency is much more important than scale and scope economies. The academic studies
have come to the result that economies of scales indeed allow average costs to fall with increases in

Tropical Rain Forest Soils of La Selva Essay
Tropical Rain Forest Soils of La Selva
Tropical rain forests across the globe are currently threatened by massive deforestation for logging,
grazing, and cultivation (Otzen 1993). Such land use practices alter temperature regimes (Fernandes
and Sanford 1995) as well as ground, soil, and surface water, flora, fauna, and microorganisms (Otzen
1993). These changes may result in a loss of soil organic matter, a decrease in soil fertility (Garcia
Oliva et al. 1994, Tissen et al. 1994), severe soil erosion (Otzen 1993), and changes in soil structure
and chemistry (Fernandes and Sanford 1995, Sollins et al. 1995, Montgagnini and Sancho 1994.)

1995), since the climate is relatively uniform over the entire reserve. The effects of biota have not
been studied, although emergents, which often persist for centuries, may well create distinctive soil
conditions beneath themselves (Sollins et al. 1994). The Entisols are young mineral soils with no
subsoil diagnostic horizons. The Inceptisols are young soils with minimal development and
undistinguished B horizons, and the Ultisols are well weathered, leached soils with an accumulation of
clay in the B horizon (Singer and Munns 1996).
Because La Selva soils are derived from very similar parent material, soils at similar levels of
development have similar mineralogy (Sollins et al. 1996). In a 1994 study, Borchers and Baham of
Oregon State University detected presence of kaolinite, halloysite, and gibbsite at the one upper
terrace studied to date (unpublished data, as cited by Sollins et al. 1994). Based on the scant
knowledge of volcanic soils in other places, weathering should produce abundant allophane at early
stages, converting later to halloysite, then to kaolinite, and lastly to gibbsite. In addition, the relatively
high levels of potassium chloride exchangeable aluminum indicate the presence of at least a small
amount of 2:1 layer silicate clays even in the most weathered soils (Sollins et al. 1994). Importantly,
most of these minerals are predominantly variable charge, meaning that the cation and anion exchange
capacity are affected

Inequalities In European Culture
Inequality has been an issue from the dawn of time. All throughout history we can see prime examples
of this. World war two and the german invasion, The Spanish and the Incas, and the most well known
example, today. But few people have ever asked why it s always been this way. Europe had geography
on it s side, giving them agricultural advantages, helping them to domesticate animals (and in turn,
building resistance to disease) leading to a surplus of food for specialists to invent and experiment.
Finally, that led to the decimation of other cultures, and the appropriation of their resources.
Geography affects climate which in turn controls what crops can grow in an area and if or how they
feed, power, and ultimately drive a community. Papua ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steel was the turning point for Europe, setting their destiny in stone, and securing their chance at
world domination. Europe had this beautiful collection of resources. Their most notable was their
surplus of food and domesticated animals that gave them time. Time that was used by specialists.
Focusing on the Spanish who, thanks to their latitude, could create roaring hot fires and with a supply
of iron, their specialists could create steel. But looking at the Incas, they had the time and climate,
however, they were lacking in iron. Thus, steel was not created in the Incan empire. So with steel, the
Spanish soared ahead, creating tools, weapons, vessels for travel overseas, and the plow, which
allowed for even more time and in turn, more specialists. Because the Inca didn t have steel, they had
to rely on stone tools and their single domesticated animal, the llama. Without steel, we wouldn t be
anywhere near where we are today. Steel allowed for civilizations to sail, farm, cut down armies, and

Explain What Makes A Good Role Model
What makes a good role model and how can I ensure that I act as a role model for employees I
supervise? To be a good role model it boils down to three basic things Practice what you preach, be
kind to people and know your job. People are going to imitate those that they admire, so if you are the
manager and you are lax in the guidelines, policy and procedure that you choose to follow, chances are
the employees that you are supervising will follow your lead and they will also be lax in their
treatment of the workplace policy and procedure. This leads to a very untidy workplace both in person
and attitude. Knowing when you can bend the rules a little for a customer who is having a bad day or
if you are looking to build a little goodwill between yourself and a client, but the rules are there for a
reason and must never be broken. Your attitude reflects on your work ethic and being a manager or a

Examples Of Money In The Great Gatsby
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, money often costs too much (Berger). The world seems to revolve
around money, and it often distracts people from the joys of life that bring them fulfillment. This is
shown in almost every main character of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Although on the
surface the characters of The Great Gatsby seem to live glamourous and joyous lives due to the riches
they have, when they are examined more closely, it is evident that their money actually does not
provide them prosperity and contentment; therefore, the theme of The Great Gatsby is that money
cannot buy happiness. Multiple examples prove that the theme of The Great Gatsby is that money
cannot buy happiness and these examples are displayed throughout the entire novel. This theme is
shown in Gatsby s chase after Daisy, Daisy and Tom s failure of a marriage, and it is shown when
Nick is attempting to get Gatsby s friends to attend his funeral.
Jay Gatsby seems to have anything and everything he could ever want; money, a beautiful house, and

It is vital to pack the sample tightly in the melting point capillary, to allow good heat transfer from the
capillary walls to the crystals. The less air is present, the better the heat will transfer. An unknown
compound is suspected to be acetanilide (mp 113.5°C 114°C). What would happen to the melting

Some farming takes place on the steep mountain coast and much of the gold of the Aztec Empire is
believed to have come from this region.
The Chiapas highlands have great blocklike mountains that rise more than 9,000 feet above sea level.
This region consists of relatively flat surfaces at high attitudes called the tablelands, which are farmed
by Indians who speak Maya and other ancient languages. With irrigation, farmers grow coffee, fruits,

Yucatan Peninsula is a low limestone plateau with no rivers. Limestone dissolves in the water and
rainfall reaches the sea through underground channels dissolved out of the rock. Great pits have

from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, got invaded by the
Americans. The war was fought in many different places such as, Upper Canada, Lower Canada, on
the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, and in the U.S. The war was a big dispute between the U.S. and the

However, the Americans had some impressive victories at sea, which gave them the potential of

who desired to invade Canada. The war proved that this was not doable for their military to do. In

The War of 1812 had a big effect on America and how the world viewed the developing nation.

shared during family gatherings. In Spanish the words are habichuelas con arroz; in English, rice and
beans; and in any language they translate into the food staples of island life (p. 59, Fernandez). I went

Though my readings can contradict such happy memories, I will soon talk about the political,
economic, social relations and identity issues that Puerto Ricans had to encounter after the Spanish
American War and during the United States invasion and how it affected Puerto Ricans then and now.
The political status, who cares about politics and its status? Well many Puerto Ricans did when the
United States invaded it. There were so many issues about the island wanting to be self governed.
According to Fernandez, others wanted statehood, while still others adamantly opposed the inclusion
of the statehood ideal in any Union platform; to paraphrase one protester, the United States was able to
deny Puerto Rico both statehood and self government. That was its right. But it was not able to deny
the island its independence because that was a right of the Puerto Rican people (p. 43). Still, until
present day the island is indecisive about becoming a state or staying a commonwealth or even being
independent. After the Spanish American War Puerto Ricans had more of a decision to make about
what they wanted to do with themselves. They weren t under Spanish rule anymore, but inherited the
American Government to help with certain affairs, though, cries for help were sometimes ignored. For
example, on August 12, 1907, Jose De Diego stopped at Oyster Bay to once again plead for more self
government . When the petition was duly filed and, like

Sport Injuries
Sport Injuries
Injuries are a crucial issue throughout the sports world and affect most players futures. Athletes are
concerned of getting severely hurt or having their lives be at risk. Many players have the chance to
prevent their injuries, but yet they never do. Families must discuss with the athlete about whether it is
safe and enforce the rules to stop injuries such as concussions. More protection could also be worn to
prevent broken bones or worse and also stretching to strengthen muscles. Injuries have increased a
tremendous amount throughout the years because many players have stopped wearing the correct
amount of protection and taking care of themselves.

Many families do fear getting a concussion which is why contact sports have less participants,
although modern protection is specially made to reduce injuries. One way to solve the issue is to
explain to parents that it is the kids decision because it is their life and if the kid wants to play football,
than they should be able to with the exception of whether the guardian can afford it. Parents must also
take into account why their child wants to play football. Is it for their fun or for the fun of the parent
(UWIRE 1)? Rules should also be enforced which causes players to think about their actions and if
they do hurt a player, there is a consequence. In addition, parents do have somewhat of a say and can
have a discussion about the child s decision, but, it is also what the child wants to do and like UWIRE
stated, it s for the kids

Descriptive Essay On Louisiana
With a motto like Let the good times roll, you already know that the state of Louisiana is more than
just spicy food and mind altering music. It s a multicultural fusion of African, French and Spanish
influence and inspiration. Friendly people, beautiful architecture, and some of Mother Nature s most
magnificent landscapes summon visitors to the state of Louisiana. Here is what you can look forward
to in each region.
Sportsman s Paradise
Located on the banks of the Red River in the north region of Louisiana, Sportsman s Paradise is a
haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Anglers marvel at the bass they hook on the Red River. What s more,
there are opportunities for canoeing and kayaking on Lake Claiborne as well as hunting on 20,000
acres of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intermingling of Spanish, French and African influences meld together to bring one of a kind
dining, entertainment and shopping adventures. Beginning with Magazine Street in Uptown New
Orleans, shoppers dart in and out of boutiques, craft shops and antique stores carrying unique
treasures. Next, the Warehouse District, home of art galleries and museums offers a range of exhibits
including live performances at places like the Contemporary Arts Center and the Ogden Museum of
Southern Art. Afterward, stroll through the Garden District and gaze at elegant mansions, feel the
excitement of the place featured in numerous movies, and has drawn celebrities like Sandra Bullock
and Nicholas Cage to live here. Before heading home, you have to stop at the hub that everyone raves
about the French Quarter. By day, visit Mardi Gras World to take a peek at parade floats. Watch ships
cruise the Mississippi; discover marine life at the Aquarium of the Americas; and munch on delicacies
made from bugs at the Audobon Insectarium. At night, visit laidback eateries, groove to the sounds of
Cajun, zydeco, jazz, and blues, and prance along with a moving concert featuring street

Analysis Of The North American Market Richardson
In the North American market Richardson s has a strength in dominating particular regions such as
Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma where they receive 75% of their companies sales. This allows them to
have lower shipping costs and possibly lower advertising costs in the areas because they have regular
customers who are returning to buy items because Richardson s strong brand equity can bring trust
and low searching costs. Having most of their sales in a particular region is also a disadvantage for the
company because if something were to happen in that region that slowed down income for the farmers
in the area (drought or disaster) Richardson s sales would be in trouble. This is because the company
relies on a particular region for sales and the company is not well diversified within other regions of
the United States, which creates risk within such a specific market. Richardson Manufacturing has
seen a cumulative increase in net sales of 11% (Sheet 1, L4) within the domestic market which is great
because it shows their sales have increased over the past 4 years. At the same time, there is a lot of
volatility in the net sales as the growth percentage goes fro 2% to 19% and eventually back to only 7%
growth. This lack of consistent growth may mean a market that is changing or relying too much on
external factors and so Richardson s team should be aware of the variability. The cumulative net profit
increase of about 50% (Sheet 1, cell L18) shows that Richardson s net profit on

Ponzi Scheme
Ponzi Scheme
Corporate Finance
A Ponzi scheme is an illegal business practice in which new investor s money is used to make
payments to earlier investors. In many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters focus on attracting new money to
make promised payments to earlier stage investors and to use for personal expenses, instead of
engaging in any legitimate investment activity. The returns are repaid out of new investors principal,
but not from profits. This can continue as long as new investors line up with cash, and old investors
don t try to withdraw too much of their money at once.
Ponzi scheme is named after Charles Ponzi, known as the Father of the Ponzi scheme and the
infamous swindler, who paid out returns with other investors ... Show more content on

He had started his business with a loan of $200, but within months he had two offices in Boston with a
staff of dozens of employees processing sales, and he bought a modest mansion for $35,000. Of
course, there were no actual profits, Ponzi had not actually bought the IRCs, and he paid early
investors with the funds derived from later investors. This only worked well for him because of the
rapid payments made to investors. People saw what he could do and they wanted in, so he was selling
the IRC s quickly and convincing people to reinvest their funds, he was able to postpone his financial
obligations even longer. By the time the scheme collapsed his income was estimated at $1M per week,
and late coming investors were defrauded of between $7 $15M. The downfall started from some
investigative journalism, this led to the District attorney getting involved and Ponzi being charged.
Most of Ponzi s gains were seized in an involuntary bankruptcy hearing, and what little remained was
spent in his subsequent legal battles. Ponzi s scheme was exposed by newspaper reports in 1920 and
despite his claims of innocence, a federal audit confirmed his operation was bankrupt, owing almost
$4 million or more to investors. After investigation, Ponzi was charged with 86 counts of mail fraud
and sentenced to five years in federal prison, and while incarcerated on federal charges he

Slim Fast Diet
The Slim Fast Plan________________________________________
Since I mostly snack/or eat low calories, and have one main meal daily, the slim fast diet plan seems
to fit my personal lifestyle. I have learned that all food is not created equally, and we are
recommended to have proteins, fats, and mostly carbs make up our daily calories. I found the Paleo
diet fascinating (no carbs!) with an interesting menu, but I felt compelled to research the Slim Fast
plan.
History
Slim Fast diet has been around since 1977. The diet plan started out with powdered mixes that contain
nutrients which you mixed with milk, then the more convenient premixed cans were created to replace
two of your meals, also you could have one main meal of real solid food. Today, the company has
incorporated a vast variety of replacement foods, like frozen entrees, meal and snack bars. The modal
still is to eat a low calorie diet with nutrients included, plus they advise exercising. Their new products
have a variety of nutrients added and calorie counts. They continue to created products that may entice
more dieters, for instance their new sugar free line, advanced nutrition has nutrient claims of 20 grams
of high protein with only 1 gram of sugar. The label offers the health claim of being good for
prediabetes, it is lactose and gluten free, and can maintain muscle tone without reducing carbs. ...

An extract from Arthur Marwick British Society Since 1945 : The fall of Labour Party: the labour government has had a very difficult time leading to the general elections of 1979. The years between 1976 79 proved to be intense ones, filled with economic problems, intensified with labour movements looking to rejuvenate. This led to the party changing some of it s policies and its position changed. The changes led to a division in the party: some members saw the party was being radicalised; therefore, they opted out of the party. • 4. Essay On American Exceptionalism Throughout the course of American history, how the population chose to act and react when in various situations gradually developed the idea of American exceptionalism, in the process bringing out both the best and worst in American society. Acts such as the mistreatment of the Native Americans showed how American supremacy came across as arrogant at times; events such as the terrorist attacks of 9/11 showed how American exceptionalism has the ability to bring a society together during times of hardship. In his sermon, A Model of Christian Charity, John Winthrop proclaimed that their settlement should be a city upon a hill (24). Being part of a new generation of Puritans, Winthrop believed that they were God s chosen people , and therefore responsible for setting an example by creating a beacon of righteousness that all others are to admire (24). • 5. The Writings Of Karl Marx Allison Bierman SOC 3020 Strand December 11, 2014 Final Paper: Question #9 The writings of Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile Durkheim each set out to discuss how an individual is connected to their social standing within society. Along with how social classes form their beginnings. Each of their theories are complex and require thorough analysis in order to fully understand their point of view. How social class is obtained in the United States is the question being posed. I will discuss which theory I personally think is best and most applicable to our modern society. I will thoroughly compare and contrast the works of Marx, Weber, and Durkheim; along with pointing out strengths and weaknesses in all three. It is first important to understand the meaning of social class. Sociologically speaking, the term social class is a way to divide individuals based upon their economic and social standing within the larger system of economic production. In the United States, the five most common social classes include: upper class elite, upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, and poor. It is assumed that the more money one has, the higher their class status will be however there is always the possibility for outliers. Social class controls several aspects of our lives and is an extremely important factor when determining potential opportunities. Karl Marx is a sociological theorist who had great influence over how we currently look at social class. According to Marx, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Sameness In The Giver In, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, The Giver does something that contrasts to what he would normally do by giving Jonas a bad memory. This helps develop the plot and a theme in the book. Normally, The Giver gives Jonas memories of nice things, but now, he has begun to give him memories of conflict and death. This shows that life was not actually perfect, contrary to what Jonas had believed when he was getting memories of sun and snow. Getting only good memories made him confused as to why Sameness was necessary or believed to be. In the book it states, It was a sound of rage and grief and it seemed to never end, (100). As can be seen, Jonas experiences pain and disbelief from what he had saw. An elephant had been hunted and shot. This is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point, The Giver is trying to explain to Jonas why people thought we needed sameness. It looks like The Giver is trying to get Jonas to understand another perspective on why sameness was need and choices were taken away, though he himself may not actually believe that it was the right decision. To add to the theme stated above, getting rid of choices, although eliminating possibly wrong choices, should not be forgotten and locked away, but instead used to ensure the mistake is nti made twice. This conclusion was made because Jonas makes a realization that he wants the new child that lives with him to be able to pick what he wants. Jonas still has not received everything and The Giver is trying to let him think of thing in all perspectives and see everything, so he can come to a conclusion on what Jonas feels was wrong. When the Giver suggest the reason that choices were taken away was fear that people would choose wrong, Jonas semmes to understand, but it seems that he wants people to know of the past, like when he tells his sister of elephants. This seems to be more evidence that Jonas believes memories should not have been taken away and people should have choices of how to fix their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Optical Filters Used For Edge Detection In image processing, a Gabor filter, named after Dennis Gabor, is a linear filter used for edge detection. Frequency and orientation representations of Gabor filters are similar to those of the human visual system, and they have been found to be particularly appropriate for texture representation and discrimination. In the spatial domain, a 2D Gabor filter is a Gaussian kernel function modulated by a sinusoidal plane wave. Simple cells in the visual cortex of mammalian brains can be modeled by Gabor functions.[1][2] Thus, image analysis with Gabor filters is thought to be similar to perception in the human visual system. A set of Gabor filters with different frequencies and orientations may be helpful for extracting useful features from an image.[7] In the discrete domain, two dimensional Gabor filters are given by, G_c[i,j]=B e^{ frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}cos(2pif(icos heta+jsin heta)) G_s[i,j]=C e^{ frac{(i^2+j^2)}{2sigma^2}}sin(2pif(icos heta+jsin heta)) where B and C are normalizing factors to be determined. 2 D Gabor filters have rich applications in image processing, especially in feature extraction for texture analysis and segmentation.[8] f defines the frequency being looked for in the texture. By varying heta, we can look for texture oriented in a particular direction. By varying sigma, we change the support of the basis or the size of the image region being analyzed. The author cites two polls which compare the 58 percent of Americans that support marijuana legalization to the only 10 percent that favor legalization of heroin or cocaine. She says the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib gained attention around 2004. Americans became concerned when they found out the government was using torture and were extremely upset about it. She states that people believed torture was being used as a part of the government s interrogation of war on terror detainees. Though she tells the readers what the issue is, she never fully explains it. She only tells us that the essays she wrote about were written around the time the debate was heating up. This helps the reader understand both sides of the argument equally. The writer gives an interesting aspect to the essay. She makes her point clear to the audience, which makes the essay readable. In the essay, Mae adds fascinating details to keep the reader interested. When the essay begins to get uninteresting, she adds a detail that makes you want to continue reading. Stumpf and Rabinowitz (1981) studied career stage and performance in a sample of 102 full time business school faculty at a large north eastern university, hypothesizing that the relationships between role perception, job satisfaction and performance would differ across career stages. They used Hall and Nougaim s (1968) three stage model: 1. The establishment stage included those in the profession two years or less, 2. Advancement included faculty with between two years and ten years experience, and 3. Maintenance included faculty with more than ten years experience. The faculty completed questionnaires on their satisfaction with work, promotion, pay, and co workers; role conflict; and role ambiguity. Performance measures included publications, student evaluations of teaching, peer nominations for excellence, and salary change. The authors developed hypotheses, based on developmental theory, about how attitudes and perceptions would relate to performance at the various stages. The establishment stage, for example, should be characterized by a strong positive relationship between satisfaction with work and performance measures. This reflects the primary task of the establishment stage, that of learning the ropes. Faculty who express satisfaction with their work at this stage must be comfortable with the new position and could be expected to do well on performance measures. In contrast, the advancement stage should show a strong positive relationship between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elaine s experiences as a child had a large impact on the development of her identity. Before moving to Toronto, Elaine was very content with her life, even though she had a few friends. Elaine retells that she was put into the hole [as] it was a game; now I know it is not one. I feel sadness, a sense of betrayal. Then I feel the darkness pressing down on me; then terror (Atwood 143). Her innocence was taken for granted from her friends . She believed that Cordelia, Grace, and Carol were going to help her become one of them. Instead of telling an adult figure what has happened she copes, and eventually it destroyed her self esteem. All of these experiences are the defining moments of Elaine s life. These have all contributed to the development of Elaine s identity and personality. Not yet quite adults, with less understanding of laws, there is a complicated balance that must be struck between their having to answer to their crimes and holding them accountable for their actions while still being cognizant of the fact that they do not always possess the mental capacity to fully understand their criminal behavior as wrong. Juvenile courts today attempt to balance the punitive and rehabilitative needs of youths. One such way to do this is the development of juvenile diversion programs. In Trevor B. Milton s book titled Overcoming the Magnetism of Street Life: Crime Engaged Youth and the Programs that Transform Them , the term diversion is used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Kentucky Court of Justice article titled Court Designated Workers Make A Difference , juvenile diversion can consist of restitution, community service, curfew, counseling, educational seminar attendance, and drug/alcohol assessments (2014). An example of a current jurisdiction implementing diversion for youths is the Kentucky Juvenile Court. In Kentucky, as with other states, detained youths entering diversion are placed into several programs to get their lives back on track. These programs stem from law related education to other programs, such as leadership, community outreach, being all you can be, making it on your own and creative arts (2014). The basic goal of juvenile diversion is to educate youth, instill a sense of accountability, and lessen deterrence. If compliance is met, cases are dismissed and formal proceedings become unnecessary (2014). Indeed, as summed up by Milton, the main objectives of juvenile diversion are to avoid labeling, reduce unnecessary detention and incarceration, reduce repeat offenses, provide counseling and other services, and to lower justice system costs (Milton, 2011, p. 32). According to Randall G. Shelden and Daniel Macallair s book titled Juvenile Justice in America: Problems and Prospects , the authors claim that certain petty behaviors only serve to stigmatize youths should be taken out of the juvenile courts entirely (Shelden Macallair, 2008, p. 198). How Did John Marshall Influence His Government Background: Born on September 24, 1755 in Virginia, John Marshall started his life pursuing the practice of law and held multiple political positions throughout his life. He was a lieutenant and later captain of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. After 1781, Marshall left his military position to pursue law. Even though his formal training was short lived, Marshall began his law career in the 1780s. He became a member of the Virginia House of Delegates in the early 1780s. In the Virginia Convention, he wanted to disband the Articles of Confederation and acted in favor of the newly proposed U.S. Constitution in 1788. He declined offers to become an attorney general under Washington in 1795 and Minister of of France in 1796. He also declined a membership as a part of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1798, as he still focused on his private practice. During his era, the prominence of the Federalists arose. • 23. A Natural Start Of Life A natural start to life: Aristotle, a famous philosopher, believed in the notion of spontaneous generation, the idea that life could arise from inanimate objects. Louis Pasteur famously dispelled this theory, when he showed that organisms will only arise if the parental species is initially present in a closed system. However, this conclusion relates to the generation of new organisms from parental ones, not the origin of life itself. The first organism had no parental species, therefore the organism had to have originated from non living matter. Stanley L. Miller kick started the study of the origin of life with his famous 1953 prebiotic soup experiment in which he took a mixture of reduced gases believed to represent the atmospheric conditions on primordial Earth and reacted them together in a spark discharge apparatus. The results were surprising, with a mixture of biochemically relevant organic molecules spontaneously being formed, including amino acids an essential building block of life. Miller s results showed that organic molecules could be generated from inorganic ones, a finding that inspired the modern era of understanding the origin of life and challenged common perceptions. Now, in the dawn of the 20th century, there are two main theories that dominate the field, the metabolism first theory and the RNA world theory. The term RNA world was coined by in 1986 by, Walter Gilbert; however the idea of independent RNA life can be traced to Carl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in particular are notorious for painting the picture of a poverty stricken continent that needs to be saved and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about two star crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Their families are in a feud and brawls have taken place between these two families. The Inceptisols are young soils with minimal development and undistinguished B horizons, and the Ultisols are well weathered, leached soils with an accumulation of clay in the B horizon (Singer and Munns 1996). Based on the scant knowledge of volcanic soils in other places, weathering should produce abundant allophane at early stages, converting later to halloysite, then to kaolinite, and lastly to gibbsite. In addition, the relatively high levels of potassium chloride exchangeable aluminum indicate the presence of at least a small amount of 2:1 layer silicate clays even in the most weathered soils (Sollins et al. 1994). • 38. The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Essay The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Am I American or Puerto Rican , a question that wanders along the halls of my mind all the time? Many Puerto Ricans might not agree, but I feel that I am, American , Puerto Rican American that is. As a child my own parents deprived me of my culture and true identity. They spoke to me in a language that many Puerto Ricans refused or detested to learn, English. The only thing I can actually say that I know about Puerto Rican heritage is the comida we shared during family gatherings. In Spanish the words are habichuelas con arroz; in English, rice and beans; and in any language they translate into the food staples of island life (p. 59, Fernandez). I went to Puerto Rico when I was four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though my readings can contradict such happy memories, I will soon talk about the political, economic, social relations and identity issues that Puerto Ricans had to encounter after the Spanish American War and during the United States invasion and how it affected Puerto Ricans then and now. The political status, who cares about politics and its status? Well many Puerto Ricans did when the United States invaded it. There were so many issues about the island wanting to be self governed. According to Fernandez, others wanted statehood, while still others adamantly opposed the inclusion of the statehood ideal in any Union platform; to paraphrase one protester, the United States was able to deny Puerto Rico both statehood and self government. That was its right. But it was not able to deny the island its independence because that was a right of the Puerto Rican people (p. 43). Still, until present day the island is indecisive about becoming a state or staying a commonwealth or even being independent. After the Spanish American War Puerto Ricans had more of a decision to make about what they wanted to do with themselves. They weren t under Spanish rule anymore, but inherited the American Government to help with certain affairs, though, cries for help were sometimes ignored. For example, on August 12, 1907, Jose De Diego stopped at Oyster Bay to once again plead for more self government . When the petition was duly filed and, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many families do fear getting a concussion which is why contact sports have less participants, although modern protection is specially made to reduce injuries. One way to solve the issue is to explain to parents that it is the kids decision because it is their life and if the kid wants to play football, than they should be able to with the exception of whether the guardian can afford it. Parents must also take into account why their child wants to play football. Is it for their fun or for the fun of the parent (UWIRE 1)? Rules should also be enforced which causes players to think about their actions and if they do hurt a player, there is a consequence. • 41. Analysis Of The North American Market Richardson In the North American market Richardson s has a strength in dominating particular regions such as Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma where they receive 75% of their companies sales. This allows them to have lower shipping costs and possibly lower advertising costs in the areas because they have regular customers who are returning to buy items because Richardson s strong brand equity can bring trust and low searching costs. Having most of their sales in a particular region is also a disadvantage for the company because if something were to happen in that region that slowed down income for the farmers in the area (drought or disaster) Richardson s sales would be in trouble. This is because the company relies on a particular region for sales and the company is not well diversified within other regions of the United States, which creates risk within such a specific market. Richardson Manufacturing has seen a cumulative increase in net sales of 11% (Sheet 1, L4) within the domestic market which is great because it shows their sales have increased over the past 4 years. At the same time, there is a lot of volatility in the net sales as the growth percentage goes fro 2% to 19% and eventually back to only 7% growth. This lack of consistent growth may mean a market that is changing or relying too much on external factors and so Richardson s team should be aware of the variability. The cumulative net profit increase of about 50% (Sheet 1, cell L18) shows that Richardson s net profit on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He had started his business with a loan of $200, but within months he had two offices in Boston with a staff of dozens of employees processing sales, and he bought a modest mansion for $35,000. Of course, there were no actual profits, Ponzi had not actually bought the IRCs, and he paid early investors with the funds derived from later investors. This only worked well for him because of the rapid payments made to investors. People saw what he could do and they wanted in, so he was selling the IRC s quickly and convincing people to reinvest their funds, he was able to postpone his financial obligations even longer. By the time the scheme collapsed his income was estimated at $1M per week, and late coming investors were defrauded of between $7 $15M. The downfall started from some investigative journalism, this led to the District attorney getting involved and Ponzi being charged. Most of Ponzi s gains were seized in an involuntary bankruptcy hearing, and what little remained was spent in his subsequent legal battles. Ponzi s scheme was exposed by newspaper reports in 1920 and despite his claims of innocence, a federal audit confirmed his operation was bankrupt, owing almost $4 million or more to investors. After investigation, Ponzi was charged with 86 counts of mail fraud and sentenced to five years in federal prison, and while incarcerated on federal charges he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
