Social Issues of the Seventies Essay
The 1970s can be best understood as a transitional period in America. Starting in the 1950s, the power
of the youth was on the rise, through civil rights activism and anti war protests. This decade s ideal
citizen seemed to be the person helping others. Then the 1980s are more financially centered and
individualistic. This decade s ideal citizen is the one who measured success by how much money they
made. The 1970s proved to be a time of bitterness, cynicism, and increased interest in one s self for
most of the people in America. Some of the events that contributed to this were the Kent State
Massacre, Roe v. Wade, and the economic stagflation that happened in the latter part of the decade.
President Richard Nixon announced on April ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The events at Kent State were a catalyst that helped strengthened the American Citizens hatred of the
Vietnam War and distrust in the Government that promised to end the war. The case of Roe vs. Wade
was an example of an individual s rights and privacy against long held doctrines based on religious
beliefs. In 1973, a woman by the name of Norma L. McCorvey, using an alias of Jane Roe, was single
and living in Texas. She got pregnant and wanted an abortion, but it was illegal. The case eventually
made its way to the United States Supreme Court. The Court recognized in a 7 to 2 decision that the
Constitutional right to privacy should include a person s choice to terminate their pregnancy. This case
became not known as one of a person s right to privacy, but rather the case that legalized abortion
(Roe v. Wade). This case, in some ways, is not only about abortion, but it also illustrates the effects of
the feminist movements throughout the country. After this landmark decision of the Supreme Court, a
woman could now choose if and when to have children. No longer was sex only socially acceptable
for married couples ready to procreate. Another event that made a woman s position in American
society more independent was the economic recession, sometimes referred to as a stagflation, which
occurred during the middle to late part of the 1970s. Stagflation is a term in economics that describes a

Analysis Of The Hunger Games
In general, Stereotyping affect not only the youth of today but also other individuals. An individual
can be stereotyped based on race, skin color, class warfare or gender. The book, The Hunger Games,
which is now a well known movie, demonstrates how stereotyping can happen to any individual. In
The Hunger Games, Katniss is affected by stereotypes. Being a citizen from District 12, her
appearance and being a female affects the way the Capitol distinguishes her.
District 12 is the poorest district in Panem and everyone expects for the tributes to act as savages and
criminals. During the opening ceremonies, Katniss reminisces about the past tributes clothing. Since
District 12 s principal industry is coal mining, the past tributes have attended the opening ceremony
naked covered in black powder to represent coal dust or skimpy outfits and hats with headlamps (The
Hunger Games 66). District 12 tributes are judged by the Capitol and the stylist judged them based on
where they are from. The past stylists do not put any effort in designing their clothing since District 12
tributes already look worn out and dirty. Typically, everyone in the Capitol judges Katniss and Peeta
because they are from a poorer side of Panem.
By stereotyping, we infer that a person has a whole range of characteristics and abilities that we
assume all members of that group have. It leads to social categorization which is one of the reasons for
prejudice attitudes (Mclead). There are plenty of young

The Importance Of Western Classical Singing
Introduction
Western classical singing is aim at producing a good quality, clear, natural, relax, and overall loud
enough sound in singing. Vibrato is an important technique in good western classical and operatic
singing. The pitch of the notes quickly changing up and down makes vibrato. It is one of the important
means of musical performance. Like violin, Chinese erhu and other string instruments playing with
rubbing strings. Italian vocal school more likely to say: the key point to tell is it a good singing, is to
see whether there has vibrato or not. (Helen Mitchell, 2004)
Open throat is the way to achieve vibrato. The term open throat is describing the throat in a lack of
tension situation, then lack of constriction and a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conclusions of the research
Researchers estimated that open throat strategy would create discernable contrasts in vocal quality and
this was affirmed by the perceptual investigation. Audiences were solid in their judgements and
reliably distinguished the strategy in rehashed tests. Singers vocal quality created discernable sound
quality contrasts in 85.3% of optimal and 80.0% of sub optimal tests, which audiences credited to the
educational guideline of open throat . This investigation affirmed teachers acknowledgment of a
central system in established singing beforehand characterised by master educators by a particular
sound quality. Facilitate investigation of the perceptual characteristics of this strategy is the subject of
progressing research by these authors.
Educational and perceptual investigations concur that substandard vibrato is easy to recognise and
shows deficient strategy or poor vocal quality. Regardless of whether decreased vibrato degree and
postponed vibrato beginning are outcomes of diminished open throat system particularly, or the
essential elements saw as open throat or without a doubt any procedure utilised as a part of good
singing needs promote examination. Vibrato alone does not really convey the acoustic signals of vocal
quality to audiences, yet perceptually, in this investigation, the best quality was related with open
throat method.

Masculinity In Fight Club
In the 1996 Chuck Palahniuk novel, Fight Club, the author uses a club in which grown men fistfight as
a vehicle for a plot and analysis of modern culture. The novel follows the path of an unnamed
character who struggles with insomnia. .The unnamed character meets a mysterious man named Tyler
Durden and establishes an underground fighting club as radical psychotherapy.[note 1]. Throughout
the novel, the narrator, uses the experiences from fight club and project mayhem to help find himself.

allows them to discover their inner self by fighting each other. The narrator does not want to die

Gender Stereotypes In The 1980 s
The 1980 s are typically viewed as being a great decade for the United States; the Cold War came to
an end, the economy experienced major growths under President Reagan, and the United States was
starting to emerge as the sole world power whose actions with regards to foreign policy, economics,
and social culture would influence how the rest of the world would react in the decades that followed.
However, the 1980 s also consisted of the AIDS epidemic. The AIDS epidemic was first identified in
the United States in 1981 and by the time the first antiretroviral AZT was approved and released for
treatment of HIV/AIDs in 1987, 48,000 people had died directly as a result of AIDS, and over 700,000

Finally, religion and a belief in God also highlights the notion that Reagan s America wasn t that great

Personal Narrative-Parody
Clumsy It was just before the sun set and you could smell the stench of each individual in line. Some
smelled like year old gym sweet and others smelled more like the sickly sweet aroma of the bakery

who was almost as tried as I, a small blond four year old. After frolicing around Disney World all day,
meeting my idols had left me physically and mentally exhausted. Better yet we were engulfed in this
wretched humidity that could only be produced by a summer day in Florida. I wished for sleep, to
escape the hoards of people, the extensive lines, and the most annoying of all, the screaming children

craving for sleep I would miss my chance to meet Cinderella, Aurora, and Belle. I heard the snap of a

Realizing that I had not hurt Cinderella and that no one was mad at me I emerged from my cave of

A Common Practice
A common practice amongst these groups that ultimately led to the breakout of the rebellion was the
taking of oaths by the members of these Kenyan nationalist groups. Initially, the oaths were found to
be an unfavorable practice; Jomo Kenyatta opposed the implementation of an oath for members
initially, but over time oaths were taken primarily to rally support; however, the people who took these
oaths were carefully selected in the hopes of rallying support for the cause. The typical oath taker was
a man of seniority who had a strong moral outlook and could serve as a role model for the younger
members to aspire to. These oaths were viewed by the British as horrific, acts of evil and savagery that
displayed the animalistic nature of those who were trying to revolt against them. Those Brits who
witnessed these oaths claimed that they were self mutilating events involving human blood and flesh,
and even the flesh of other animals like goats into whose flesh these naked heathens ate and drank
from. According to the Kikuyu culture, this was normal religious practice they believed was similar to
a conversion ceremony for someone evangelical, but seeing as the British governmental authorities
would not view them in this way, it was in the best interests of other Europeans to discredit this
Kikuyu claim and treat them as ferocious rebels (Brendon 555). With these rituals causing the
Africans to fall under such scrutiny, it can be argued that treating them as violent criminals

The Major Components Of Street Sweeper
In my report, I will be discussing some of the major components of street sweeper and will be
explaining the function of each component. Some of the major features of street sweeper are Pick Up
Head As stated in Key Features (n.d.), street sweeper contains a very sharp feature which is a pick up
head which contains two attractive features in it. One is suction system and other is air blast. The main
motive of these systems is that it helps to remove debris from the streets. In addition to that, it has
another interesting feature in it which is skids that improves wear life of pick up head (para.1.). Figure

contains another device which is knows as BAH that is only preferred during broom assisted sweeping
(para.2.). The broom is very long in size that helps during dust control. It has one positive thing that its
pressure can be adjusted according to our needs that helps to throw dirt from the streets into air.
Hopper Hopper has attractive and good features as compared to the pick up head. It has a smooth
dumping system in it that collects junk from the ground. The main advantage of hopper over pick up
head is that it does not need any telescoping hydraulic cylinders (para.4.) which is used for hoisting,
hydraulically controlled door latch assemblies (para.4.). Figure 3. Opening of Hopper in street

The Plastic Pink Flamingo A Natural History Thesis
In the 1950 s, the pink flamingo became not just an American lawn ornament that was a fun
decoration, but also a status symbol of wealth and pizazz. Jennifer Prices essay, The Plastic Pink
Flamingo: A Natural History , Price uses tone and diction to provide her opinion on the ignorant and
foolish actions of the American in the 1950 s regarding the plastic pink flamingo. Price uses a
sarcastic tone throughout the piece to help reveal her opinion on the American Culture. In the title of
the essay, Price calls the flamingo plastic while also saying natural . She is stating that the flamingo is

Write An Essay On Pleural Effusion
In layman s terms, pleural effusion is simply fluid in the pleural space. However, pleural effusion is so
much more than that. It is caused by a variety of mechanisms, has two different classifications, and
can cause varying degrees of symptoms and complications. Patients with pleural effusion are ripe for
diagnostic radiography, as it is often the best source of information about their condition and it s
severity. Pleural effusion is defined by Liz Allibone as an abnormal collection of fluid in the pleural
space caused by a variety of mechanisms. The pleural space is a cavity between the chest wall and the
lung that consists of two layers, the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura. These two layers normally
have pleural fluid within them to reduce friction during respiration. Allibone quotes about normal

Pleural effusion has two major classifications: transudates and exudates. Transudate pleural effusions
usually present bilaterally and are caused by a larger, systemic condition that does not effect the
porousness of the pleural capillaries. An example of a systemic condition that would cause a
transudate pleural effusion would be left ventricular failure. Exudate pleural effusions normally
present unilaterally and occur when there is a change in porousness of the pleural capillaries. These
types of pleural effusions are much more common and can range in cause from a side effect to certain
medicines to a respiratory infection such as pneumonia. They can also be caused by trauma, which

Theme Of Identity In The Tale Of Sinuhe
In the Tale of Sinuhe , the path of Sinuhe s flight or more aptly put, his journey of self, is one that is
indubitably complex it resonates with the concept of uprooting oneself from a semblance of normality
( order ) into a state of unfamiliarity ( chaos ). This paradigm shift, due to an irrational response to fear
on Sinhue s part, leads to an existential crisis whereby the course of his trajectory and social identity is
questioned extensively. Subsequently, throughout the tale the themes of rational and irrational thought,
self vs. other and order vs. chaos are explored and as a result contribute to Sinhue s journey of self and
restoration of his true identity as an Egyptian.

Mary Barton By Elizabeth Gaskell Analysis
Ever hear the phrase, you have to read in between the lines? Authors commonly include broad
metaphors in their works in order for each reader to have their own interpretations of the topic. In this
passage, Mary Barton, written by Elizabeth Gaskell, George Wilson, a worker, goes to the house of
Mr. Carson, who is the owner of the mill where he is employed. He makes this trip to request help for
another worker who is dying of typhus. Gaskell was able to show a clear depiction of social
differences between a town that is heading toward poverty and a wealthy family living in opulence,
allowing her reader to understand the clear message she was writing. Because of Gaskell s close
selection of detail, shiftment of point of view, and inclusion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the conversation between Thomas and Wilson, one can see that Thomas speaks less properly
compared to the individual he is interacting with. The dialogue reveals that Thomas has an accent with
words such as, mysel instead of myself th instead of the and ha instead of have. A widespread belief is
that the lack of money is equivalent to the lack of an education, which is displayed to be true within
this section of the passage. The stereotypical way to show others one has money is to speak like it,
Thomas obviously demonstrates that he was not taught this manner. Also in this conversation, Wilson
had not said a word. Readers are lead to believe this was in his perspective, but in actuality his silence
shows it was third person. Wilson and Thomas represent those who grew up in poverty, they either are
taught the English language inaccurately or they are taught to be quiet. The difference between social
classes will always stay as a dominant universal theme within novels, stories, and plays. In Mary
Barton, the contrasted is depicted through her implied metaphors and detailed illustrations. Her
characters, the Carson s, exhibit the misguided acceptance that those in poverty are simple to abandon
and easy to replace. Elizabeth Gaskell is able to compare and contrast the groups of people with her
flawless diction,

The Pros And Cons Of Cognitive Dissonance
We, the First Presidency...of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, solemnly proclaim that
marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God... This is the opening line in The Family: A
Proclamation to the World, given by former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day
Saints (LDS), Gordon B. Hinckley, in September of 1995. This is one of the main doctrines in the
LDS faith. In light of the U.S. Supreme Court s ruling regarding the legalization of gay marriage in
2015, these two ideologies, what is socially acceptable versus the standards of the LDS faith, stand
contrary to one another. This contradiction causes what is known as cognitive dissonance. Many
people have noted that members of the LDS faith have felt this dissonance from society, but what
about those people of the LDS faith who identify as LGBT or experience same sex attraction on some
level? The more we identify the two things that oppose each other, the greater the cognitive
dissonance. I myself am a member of the LDS faith, I also experience same sex attraction (SSA). It is
easy for me to find moments in my life where I have felt cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance
is the distressing mental state caused by inconsistency between a person s two beliefs (Griffin 2014).
To put it simply, it is the uncomfortable feeling that we get when we choose to do something that we
know we should not. Examples of cognitive dissonance can be found in every aspect of life. An addict

Why Christians Need AAnchor
No boat would be complete if it lacked an anchor. With no way to secure it in place, the boat would
simply drift to sea aimlessly, meaning a total loss for its owner. Christians, a religious group that
claims to follow the Man Jesus who was executed years ago, claim that our soul needs an anchor just
as badly as a boat. The soul , according to them, is the immortal part of man that exists within the
physical body, but will continue to live after the body has deceased. This spiritual part of mankind is
in need of an anchor to keep it rooted, and they teach that Jesus is that anchor. An anchor must hold
fast no matter how hard the wind gusts or how boisterous the waves become. Those on the ship must
be able to have faith that the anchor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see the promises that He made to Abraham and to other men, and then we see that He always kept
those promises. God has never failed to keep His word, and He never will. Because He has confirmed
Jesus, we can be anchored by our hope in Him, without wavering! God cannot lie! If He says it, He
means it. When God tells me that I can have hope and faith in His Son, I believe Him! It is abundantly
clear by talking to these three Christians, as well as others, that these people have absolutely no doubt
in the Man they call their Savior. Such confidence is rare to say the least, but not everyone feels that
the assurance the Christians have in Jesus is warranted. A local worshipper of the god Saturn stated, I
just don t get how they can have a steadfast hope in someone who is just a Man! I know that Saturn is
not a man, he is a god! I can come to this temple and see an image of him, something tangible. But
there is no such thing for these Christians. There s nothing physical to even show who this Jesus is!
While many may disagree with them, the hope that Christians have in this Man is unwavering and
they truly believe their soul is securely anchored. In light of this, it seems possible that there may be
some validity to Christianity after

The data for this study on school mobility and math achievement came from the Chicago School
Readiness Program (1728). Random kids were put into Head Start programs that had teacher trainings
and mental health advisers (1728). Chicago was a smart choice to study since that city has increased
poverty compared to other big cities. Throughout the study, there were various sources that were used
to collect different aspects of the effects of school mobility. A main source was the standardized
achievements tests that were given before entrance into the Head Start program and once they
finished. Cognitive dysregulation was also accounted for by the teachers using a written questionnaire
(1729). To gauge the math achievement that the children in the program had been working toward, a
test known as the ISAT, was given around their fifth year when a majority of the participates were in
fourth grade (1729). This specific test allowed the researches to gain access to the progress or failure

Operation Mincemeat Ben Macintyre
Operation Mincemeat was written by Ben Macintyre, a writer for the Times of London, and an author
whose works are mainly on the espionage aspect of the Allied war effort in World War II, especially
the use of double agents. Macintyre became interested in Operation Mincemeat while conducting
research for another book on Eddie Chapman, a British double agent. He was specifically drawn to
Ewen Montagu, one of the masterminds behind this operation. Although Montagu had written a book
about these events, titled The Man Who Never Was in 1953, Macintyre understood that certain details
were omitted from the published work as it first had to be authorized by the Joint Intelligence
Committee. In order to fill in the gaps in Montagu s book, Macintyre began to search for the classified
documents pertaining to the operation, which he eventually obtained after contacting Montagu s son.
In fact, Macintyre eventually obtained Montagu s letters, his unpublished autobiography and the
uncensored version of his original book, which would be the sources of information for his new book
on Operation Mincemeat. Another factor that led him to write this book was the lack of material on
this secret operation available to the public, partly due to the British government s unwillingness to
divulge these classified operations from the war for almost fifty years. With the relaxing of these
restrictions by the government, Macintyre felt it was time to paint the complete picture of the events

Basic Elements Of Poetry
Poetry
Poetry is a way of feeling life, according to Daisy Zamora, a Nicaraguan poet. Her statement helps
answer how does poetry help us feel life . Poetry captures intense experiences of creative perceptions

Poetry is defined in many ways but there is one thing in common in poetry and that, it is a form of
communication. For you to understand the poem, you have to identify the idea or theme that the writer
wants to deliver, his purpose in writing the poem and identify techniques he used in his poem.
Speaker
Every poem has a speaker, or a voice that talks to the reader. In prose, the narrator is the speaker but
not necessarily the author. In poetry, the speaker is not necessarily the poet. It can also be a fictional
person, an animal or a thing.

Descriptive Essay Day
Willow was excited to go to the beach with Evelyn. They were going to have a fun time there. The day
was sunny and hot. The water was going to be cool against their hot skin. There were some clouds in
the sky and a slight breeze. Evelyn parked her car and they both got out. When they got to the end of
the cement stairs, Willow started to run to a shady spot in a secluded part of the beach. Evelyn started
running to try to catch up. When they both got to the shade, Willow threw down her t shirt, shorts, and
towel onto the sand. Then she took off her sandals and set them near her towel. Evelyn put her towel
down then laid her shorts, shirt, and shoes on top of it. I ve been wanting to swim for a few weeks. I m
so glad that we chose to go today. It s a perfect day for it. Evelyn said in an excited voice. I know. I
haven t been able to come to the beach since last summer. Let s go enjoy that ocean! said Willow.
They started to jog towards the water with joy. They could feel the hot sand burning their feet. It felt
horrible but good at the same time. Willow started to walk onto the wet sand then into the water. The
water felt cool against her burnt feet. She was thrilled to have a beach day. Willow was going to enjoy
every second of it. Evelyn ran into the water with pure joy. She had a big smile on her face when the
water hit her bare legs. They couldn t feel the breeze when they got deeper. The water started to get a
little colder each time the waves hit them. The sun was

Target Corporation Mission Statement
Target was founded by George Draper Dayton in 1902. He was born in New York and wanted to
explore the markets growing in the Midwest. Because of this, he purchased land in Minneapolis and
began Dayton Dry Goods Company, which became what we know today as Target. Dayton s
principals are the foundation for many of Target Corporation s values to this day. Dayton s store soon
became synonymous with reliability and fair business practices. After Dayton s death in 1938, he
passed his business along to his son, who grew the Dayton Company into a nationwide retailer. In
1911 the company was renamed as The Dayton Company because it better reflected the variety of
products and services that the company offers. In 1916 The Dayton Company became a founding ...

Dayton is quoted having said, Success is making ourselves useful in the world, valuable to society,
helping in lifting in the level of humanity, so conducting ourselves that when we go the world will be
somewhat better of our having lived the brief span of our lives. This statement embodies much of
what the target values are to this day. (Target Through The Years) In 1954, Dayton opened up its first
branch location in downtown Minneapolis. Further, in 1956, the company began to cater towards the
needs of busy suburban families and opened another branch in the Southdale Mall. The company
continued to expand in the years to come. Looking for new ways to entice consumers, in 1960 The
Dayton Company looked to cater towards value oriented shoppers seeking a higher quality experience
(Target Through The Years). At this time the company took the first step in moving away from a
family run department store chain toward what would become one of the chief discount store chains in
America. In 1961, the store officially proclaimed that it was going to form a new discount chain store
that was yet to be

Essay On Iago s Use Of Irony In Othello
Shakespeare s villain, Iago, in his work Othello is perhaps the smartest of all Shakespeare s
antagonists. Iago manages to unsettle the steadfast, level headed Othello, remove jovial Cassio from
his honored position, and plant incriminating evidence against Desdemona all with in the span of three
days without raising suspicion from his friends or his wife. All of this Iago does to spite Othello for
naming Cassio his lieutenant instead of himself. Othello is abundant with irony. Because Iago is so
double sided, during all of his interactions with his friends, mainly Cassio and Othello, the irony is
obvious. Throughout the play Othello, as well as many other characters, refers to Iago as honest and
just (Othello 5.1.33). In reality, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without, Iago s ironic friendship with Cassio and Othello, Iago would not be such an accomplished
villain. Shakespeare goes beyond the basic villian that plots alone in solitude with Iago. Shakespeare
has Iago scheme, plot, and take his revenge all while having seemingly harmless interactions with a
multitude of characters, none of which know his intention. Because Shakespeare hides Iago s
intentions from the rest of the characters, Iago clearly displays two different personalities. There is the
evil villian out to get his revenge, and the helpful, obedient, and wise friend. Iago is the type of villian
that could be anyone, and his interaction with the other characters makes him endlessly entertaining to
the audience. It must be remembered that while Shakespeare s plays are studied today as classic
literature, Shakespeare wrote them to be performed as entertainment for the general public. It is inroy
that fuels Iago s character and makes the play intriguing to the audience. Because Shakespeare s
character is so duplicitous, the audience can not help but hang on to Iago s every ironic interaction
with the other characters. Without a doubt Shakespeare s mastery of irony is evident in his work
Othello , especially in his villain

What Is The Figurative Language In Silk Parachute By John...
Some say when a baby is born, a mother s love is the strongest and most powerful thing in the world.
As the baby grows, the mother s love matures and never waivers. John McPhee demonstrates this
concept of a mother s love in his piece, Silk Parachute. In the passage, McPhee recalls some of the
memories of his childhood and goes into the underlying concept of an unwavering love from his
mother. In Silk Parachute, John McPhee uses the rhetorical devices of dialogue, parallel structure, and
symbolism to prove that no matter what happens, a mother s love never fails. In this piece, John
McPhee does not regularly use direct methods of discussion to demonstrate his points. As he weaves
his way through different methods of figurative language, one of the modes that he uses is dialogue. In
a memory he recalls from the passage, he states, It is reported that the following dialogue and ensuing
action occurred on January 22, 1941: ... I made that sandwich, and you are going to eat it, Mister Man.
You filled yourself up with penny candy on the way home, and now you re not hungry. (4) He uses
this dialogue to give a sense of what his mother was really like and to make her more personable to
the reader. He also uses more dialogue than anywhere else in the paper, on the bad memories side. I
believe that this could be a writerly move of McPhee. As he uses this dialogue in the poor memories
side, he makes the reader focus on the good memories and make her seem more personable.

Gregg Zoroya
Summary
In this article, Gregg Zoroya reports on the RAND study that revealed that the Army chaplains need
more training in handling suicidal soldiers because almost all of the chaplains who participated in the
study said they have dealt with soldiers who want to kill themselves. This is even more vital because
the study also revealed that chaplains and chaplain assistants do not hold positive views about therapy
hence making them unlikely to advice soldiers to seek therapy when they become suicidal. Among the
reasons they give for this is that soldiers think they will be viewed differently by peers if they seek
help. 44% of army chaplains and 57% of chaplain assistants conceded that they need more training to
help prevent suicide among soldiers.
Even though chaplains receive basic training on suicide intervention skills as told by the Army
spokeswoman Tatjana Christian, there are gaps in practices that the Army Office of Chaplains are

The article demonstrates the culture of problem solving in America where every little problem is
projected to demonstrate its importance. In many other countries, the issue of suicide in the Army
would not be given much attention but in this study, the Pentagon funding the study alone is important
in taking care of soldiers. The most important thing in the article however is training the chaplains to
first believe in therapy and then help those that seek help in the Army since it is shocking that many of
them do not believe in the importance of therapy. Soldiers should also be made to see the importance
of therapy and sensitized against stigmatization of those that seek therapy because about half of
soldiers claimed they would feel embarrassed if their fellow soldiers found out that they sought

The Role Of The Patriot Act And The Middle East
In recent years we have seen drastic changes occur in our country. Since the terrorist attack on the
twin towers we have seen many changes take place in everyday situations. Homeland Security was
established. There are security checks at airports; a tedious procedure ensuring everyone s safety at
airports and safety during traveling. The minds of American citizens have turned a cold shoulder to
Muslims or anyone who bears a turban. Fear, prejudice and intolerance has spread through our country
since the 9/11 attacks. Wars spread like wild fire in the Middle East, the United States entered a war
on terror. The budget on defense spending has risen immensely and some economists debate that this
large spending had some effect on the recent recession America has faced. Citizens also feel the
effects of the Patriot Act and other legislation that allow government intrusions, reducing our civil
rights and such ideals as a personal life . As citizens and even the government blame Muslims for the
attack and the Middle East in general. However, what has America or even the West done that has
influenced the Middle East? Present news is surrounded, engulfed in issues of the Middle East and
how it affects the Western part of the world nations like the United States of America, France and the
United Kingdom. It is pretty obvious when we live it, how much we are influenced by the events of
the Middle East or what we define as the Middle East. However, what has the West done for the

Color Coded Behavior Chart In The Classroom
Take a cursory glance in almost any elementary school classroom and you are bound to find some
version of the color coded behavior chart. Whether it be a stop light with clothespins, a colored card
bulletin board, or any other variation; this method of classroom behavior management is exceedingly
popular in the education world. While the behavior chart itself has many variations, the rules are
generally the same. Every day, each child begins on a good color (usually green) and, according to
their instructor s interpretation of their behavior throughout the day, they either move up or down the
chart to other colors. Each color is assigned a level of good or bad and they may or may not have
some consequence attached to them. A popular variation

Comparing Kennedy And Roosevelt s Four Freedoms
Both Roosevelt s Four Freedoms speech and Kennedy s inaugural address express helping the world
obtain liberty, however Roosevelt s speech focuses on what the freedoms are, whereas Kennedy s
speech focuses on what we should do about it. Though both of the speeches are given by respectable
Presidents of the United States and discuss the topic of freedom, they are very differing in what they
focus on when talking about liberty.
Both Kennedy and Roosevelt wrote speeches on the topic of liberty and there are many similarities to
the two, one in particular I found very interesting was This nation has placed its destiny in the hands
and hearts of its millions of free men and women, and its faith in freedom under the guidance of God
(FDR 276). This shows that Roosevelt put his faith in God in whether the country deserved freedom
or not, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also a quote similar to this in Kennedy s speech it states that The belief that the rights of man
come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God (JFK 284). Both Kennedy and
Roosevelt believe that hand will give our Nation its right when GOD decides to give it. They both
believe that it is not our government that decides when freedom will happen, it is God that decides
that. Another similarity between the two is that both express keeping the world free. Let every nation
know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any
hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to ensure the survival and the success of liberty (JFK
284). This one by JFK expresses we as a country, will do anything to help any country be free and

Longhorn Steakhouse History
LongHorn Steakhouse
It all started with a man by the name of George McKerrow Jr, who had a passion for delicious steaks.
Luckily he had a snowstorm hit his hometown in Atlanta, Georgia that brought stranded motorist into
the only hospitable place available a restaurant called LongHorn Steaks Restaurant Saloon. The tales
of the expertly grilled steak was spread like a wildfire throughout the towns. This was the beginning
of a new chain restaurant called LongHorn Steakhouse, which is known for their Flo s Filet and the
Bone In Outlaw, fall of the bone ribs, and hand cut salmon. In later years, LongHorn eventually joined
Darden Restaurants with Olive Garden and Red Lobster. With a location in Mechanicsburg,
Pennsylvania, it is one of many steakhouses that you can choose from. It is a well organized restaurant
that has been serving steak, chicken, and fish for 30 years where the meat is never frozen. In addition
to that, it is the only steakhouse that catches the eyes of the customer, usually from the dark red lights
that light up during the night. The restaurant is opened Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 AM to 10:00
PM and Friday to Saturday 11:00 to 11:00 PM.
As we walk through the double doors of the entrance, we are warmly greeted right away by the
LongHorn Staff, who are dressed in black tops and blue jeans. We had dinner at Longhorn after
discovering a 30 minute wait at our first restaurant choice. The wait at Longhorn was only about 15
minutes, which was not bad for a

The Cosby Show Research Paper
There is no other time like the 1980s. The 1980s was a decade of important cultural and political
change. Music was punk and loud. Pop culture changed. Fashion was wild and over the top, with lots
of makeup, accessories, and big funky hair. Sitcoms did incorporate a lot of these elements; however,
sitcoms also addressed social issues and problems. Racism was one of the problems in sitcoms in the
1980s, and three shows that addressed racism were The Cosby Show, A Different World, and Diff rent
Strokes.
The Cosby Show was an American television sitcom that ran from September 20, 1984 to April 30,
1992. The show focused on an African American family (The Huxtables) who were an upper middle
class family living in Brooklyn, New York. The family was very wealthy ... Show more content on

The show was a television spin off of The Cosby Show. This show showed the life of one of the

and situations, but it also taught the viewers about culture and friendships. Racism was addressed in
many ways; however, in season 5 episode 14 Cats in the Cradle both parties were involved. In this
episode, students at Hillman College confront a racial act committed by students at a rival school,
which resulted in both parties being put in jail and forced to confront their differences. I can t even get

Your grandfather was an immigrant, you are American. My father was born here duke, and you people

Maggie, A Girl Of The Streets
In Stephen Crane s Maggie, a Girl of the Streets, the reader is given key insight into the daily lives of
a family that is torn apart due to their social environment. The story takes place in a poverty stricken
area called Rum Alley, which is located in the Bowery. The protagonist Maggie Johnson and her
brother Jimmie are shaped by the society that they live in and the interactions they have. Maggie and
Jimmie have abusive, alcoholic parents who constantly berate their kids for no good reason, resulting
in Jimmie becoming an alcoholic and an abusive womanizer. Maggie was also affected by her social
environment, but not in the same way as Jimmie. She was seduced by a boy named Pete and was

In the beginning of the novella, it seems as though Jimmie just naturally has a short fuse and is ready
to pick a fight at moments notice, but as the story progresses, the reader comes to the realization that
Jimmie s family is torn apart and fighting constantly, affecting Jimmie in a very negative way. Even as
a child, Jimmie was found in the streets picking fights with other kids his age. As Jimmie was fighting,
his friends egged him on, saying, Smash im Jimmie, kick d face off im! (Crane 4). He mirrors what he
sees in the tenement building he calls home, as his mother resorts to violence to enforce anything of
her liking or to reprimand her children. Jimmie s violent tendencies were not the only thing he picked
up from his mother and father. As Jimmie grows up, he starts getting involved with alcohol, increasing
not only his violent tendencies, but also increasing the number of flings he has, flirting and seducing
women all the time and leaving them heartbroken after a short period of time, just like his father.
Jimmie s behaviour and mannerisms are dictated based off of his social environment, mainly his
household, and it further emphasizes that Jimmie s social environment strongly influences the way his
life turns out and the way he

Promoting A New Rice Wine
To promote a new rice wine I have created a 60 second commercial where the enlightened Zen master
Ikkyū uses the five basic categories of sabi, wabi, aware, yugen, and ma to demonstrate the kosher of
this new product. Ikkyū was used due to his notoriety for his infusion of Japanese art and literature
with Zen attitudes and ideals. Ikkyū s significance and understanding of Zen culture made him the
perfect candidate to conduct a tea ceremony to demonstrate the quality and spiritualness of the new
rice wine.
The commercial will begin with a panning shot of a rock pathway leading to a teahouse. In the
background of the panning shot will be the rock garden that faces east. The tea ceremony will be
taking place at sunrise so that the sun will be rising over the rock garden. During this shot, the
sonorous and melancholy chirping of birds will be used to evoke a peaceful but sad emotion. Together
the birds and sun will symbolize the beautiful but fragile and ephemeral nature of life, whereby the
birds enchanting songs at the start of the day will be silenced by the sun s setting at the end of the day.
The panning shot will end at the doorframe and the camera shot will assume an angle from which the
viewer will feel that he/she is the one taking part in the tea ceremony. By using cinematography, in
particular the anonymity creates a will to produce the idea of standing between being and non being.
The doorframe will present a sense of space and emptiness. Beside the

What Does The Parachute Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies is one the most controversial novels ever written. It shows that people are evil by
human nature. The story displays this on different levels: literal and symbolic. In Lord of the Flies, the
parachute functions as a turning point in the story. It indirectly causes the death of Simon and it
supports the assumption that there is a beast on the island. The parachute foreshadows death,
symbolizes fear and reminds the boys about the existence of the adult world. To begin with, the
encounter with the parachutist foreshadows and symbolizes death. First of all, a suggestion could be
made that the parachute could ve prevented them from being rescued. After the encounter with the
parachutist, the boys became more cautious and afraid.

The location of the Radicor hotel attracts both business travelers as well as tourists. Considering the

Analysis Of The Poem Reluctance
In his poem Reluctance , he talks about being in denial and reluctantly carrying on as if the
relationship will fix itself. The narrator uses nature to describe the state of his relationship, both
longing for healing, but unwilling and unsure of how to go about it. The poem reads,
The last lone aster is gone;
The flowers of the witch hazel wither;
The heart is still aching to seek,
But the feet question Whither? (62)
The aster flower represents the absence of love and patience. Witch hazel, meaning pliant or bendable,
signifies that both parties in the relationship are unwilling to be flexible and understanding of each
other s wants, needs, and desires. Their hearts are aching to seek, (62) but they are in denial of any
possible way to make the relationship work. The relationship between the last lone aster , witch hazel ,
and the narrator connect the life and death cycle that is viewable in nature to his relationship. Frost
recognizes that knowledge of nature and man s self knowledge were thus interdependent. (63) By
understanding this, he can apply the wisdom to his relationship. A flower, as well as a relationship,
need to be tended to or will begin the wither. Nevertheless, the life of the flower or relationship is
never guaranteed. In love, one must remain flexible, knowing that even as a flower begins to wither ,
there may still be a way to bring it back to life. No matter how much knowledge is acquired
throughout a lifetime, wisdom is in knowing that

  • 3. Social Issues of the Seventies Essay The 1970s can be best understood as a transitional period in America. Starting in the 1950s, the power of the youth was on the rise, through civil rights activism and anti war protests. This decade s ideal citizen seemed to be the person helping others. Then the 1980s are more financially centered and individualistic. This decade s ideal citizen is the one who measured success by how much money they made. The 1970s proved to be a time of bitterness, cynicism, and increased interest in one s self for most of the people in America. Some of the events that contributed to this were the Kent State Massacre, Roe v. Wade, and the economic stagflation that happened in the latter part of the decade. President Richard Nixon announced on April ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The events at Kent State were a catalyst that helped strengthened the American Citizens hatred of the Vietnam War and distrust in the Government that promised to end the war. The case of Roe vs. Wade was an example of an individual s rights and privacy against long held doctrines based on religious beliefs. In 1973, a woman by the name of Norma L. McCorvey, using an alias of Jane Roe, was single and living in Texas. She got pregnant and wanted an abortion, but it was illegal. The case eventually made its way to the United States Supreme Court. The Court recognized in a 7 to 2 decision that the Constitutional right to privacy should include a person s choice to terminate their pregnancy. This case became not known as one of a person s right to privacy, but rather the case that legalized abortion (Roe v. Wade). This case, in some ways, is not only about abortion, but it also illustrates the effects of the feminist movements throughout the country. After this landmark decision of the Supreme Court, a woman could now choose if and when to have children. No longer was sex only socially acceptable for married couples ready to procreate. Another event that made a woman s position in American society more independent was the economic recession, sometimes referred to as a stagflation, which occurred during the middle to late part of the 1970s. Stagflation is a term in economics that describes a condition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Hunger Games In general, Stereotyping affect not only the youth of today but also other individuals. An individual can be stereotyped based on race, skin color, class warfare or gender. The book, The Hunger Games, which is now a well known movie, demonstrates how stereotyping can happen to any individual. In The Hunger Games, Katniss is affected by stereotypes. Being a citizen from District 12, her appearance and being a female affects the way the Capitol distinguishes her. District 12 is the poorest district in Panem and everyone expects for the tributes to act as savages and criminals. During the opening ceremonies, Katniss reminisces about the past tributes clothing. Since District 12 s principal industry is coal mining, the past tributes have attended the opening ceremony naked covered in black powder to represent coal dust or skimpy outfits and hats with headlamps (The Hunger Games 66). District 12 tributes are judged by the Capitol and the stylist judged them based on where they are from. The past stylists do not put any effort in designing their clothing since District 12 tributes already look worn out and dirty. Typically, everyone in the Capitol judges Katniss and Peeta because they are from a poorer side of Panem. By stereotyping, we infer that a person has a whole range of characteristics and abilities that we assume all members of that group have. It leads to social categorization which is one of the reasons for prejudice attitudes (Mclead). There are plenty of young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Stereotypes In The 1980 s The 1980 s are typically viewed as being a great decade for the United States; the Cold War came to an end, the economy experienced major growths under President Reagan, and the United States was starting to emerge as the sole world power whose actions with regards to foreign policy, economics, and social culture would influence how the rest of the world would react in the decades that followed. However, the 1980 s also consisted of the AIDS epidemic. The AIDS epidemic was first identified in the United States in 1981 and by the time the first antiretroviral AZT was approved and released for treatment of HIV/AIDs in 1987, 48,000 people had died directly as a result of AIDS, and over 700,000 people have died from 1981 2017.1 Many people that ... Additionally, religion acts as a source of exposition in the play17; Millennium Approaches begins at Louis grandma s funeral8 and the use of religion throughout the first act gives readers an idea of how the characters are going to act based on their religious beliefs because in America, religious views and political ideology are hand in hand. Finally, religion and a belief in God also highlights the notion that Reagan s America wasn t that great because certain religious groups during the time believed homosexuality to be a sin, and thus those with HIV/AIDS were seen as being morally deficient and were to be avoided at all costs.10 In 1993, at the height of the AIDS crisis, Evangelist Billy Graham said, Is AIDS a judgment of God? I sat down upon the small brick wall that I had been leaning upon for what felt like an eternity. Of course i did this with the help of my broad shouldered father who was almost as tried as I, a small blond four year old. After frolicing around Disney World all day, meeting my idols had left me physically and mentally exhausted. Better yet we were engulfed in this wretched humidity that could only be produced by a summer day in Florida. I wished for sleep, to escape the hoards of people, the extensive lines, and the most annoying of all, the screaming children being micromanaged by their unintelligent guardians. • 10. A Common Practice A common practice amongst these groups that ultimately led to the breakout of the rebellion was the taking of oaths by the members of these Kenyan nationalist groups. Initially, the oaths were found to be an unfavorable practice; Jomo Kenyatta opposed the implementation of an oath for members initially, but over time oaths were taken primarily to rally support; however, the people who took these oaths were carefully selected in the hopes of rallying support for the cause. The typical oath taker was a man of seniority who had a strong moral outlook and could serve as a role model for the younger members to aspire to. These oaths were viewed by the British as horrific, acts of evil and savagery that displayed the animalistic nature of those who were trying to revolt against them. Those Brits who witnessed these oaths claimed that they were self mutilating events involving human blood and flesh, and even the flesh of other animals like goats into whose flesh these naked heathens ate and drank from. According to the Kikuyu culture, this was normal religious practice they believed was similar to a conversion ceremony for someone evangelical, but seeing as the British governmental authorities would not view them in this way, it was in the best interests of other Europeans to discredit this Kikuyu claim and treat them as ferocious rebels (Brendon 555). • 13. Write An Essay On Pleural Effusion In layman s terms, pleural effusion is simply fluid in the pleural space. However, pleural effusion is so much more than that. It is caused by a variety of mechanisms, has two different classifications, and can cause varying degrees of symptoms and complications. Patients with pleural effusion are ripe for diagnostic radiography, as it is often the best source of information about their condition and it s severity. Pleural effusion is defined by Liz Allibone as an abnormal collection of fluid in the pleural space caused by a variety of mechanisms. Theme Of Identity In The Tale Of Sinuhe In the Tale of Sinuhe , the path of Sinuhe s flight or more aptly put, his journey of self, is one that is indubitably complex it resonates with the concept of uprooting oneself from a semblance of normality ( order ) into a state of unfamiliarity ( chaos ). This paradigm shift, due to an irrational response to fear on Sinhue s part, leads to an existential crisis whereby the course of his trajectory and social identity is questioned extensively. Subsequently, throughout the tale the themes of rational and irrational thought, self vs. other and order vs. chaos are explored and as a result contribute to Sinhue s journey of self and restoration of his true identity as an Egyptian. He makes this trip to request help for another worker who is dying of typhus. In the conversation between Thomas and Wilson, one can see that Thomas speaks less properly compared to the individual he is interacting with. The dialogue reveals that Thomas has an accent with words such as, mysel instead of myself th instead of the and ha instead of have. A widespread belief is that the lack of money is equivalent to the lack of an education, which is displayed to be true within this section of the passage. The stereotypical way to show others one has money is to speak like it, Thomas obviously demonstrates that he was not taught this manner. Also in this conversation, Wilson had not said a word. Readers are lead to believe this was in his perspective, but in actuality his silence shows it was third person. This is the opening line in The Family: A Proclamation to the World, given by former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (LDS), Gordon B. Hinckley, in September of 1995. This is one of the main doctrines in the LDS faith. In light of the U.S. Supreme Court s ruling regarding the legalization of gay marriage in 2015, these two ideologies, what is socially acceptable versus the standards of the LDS faith, stand contrary to one another. This contradiction causes what is known as cognitive dissonance. Many people have noted that members of the LDS faith have felt this dissonance from society, but what about those people of the LDS faith who identify as LGBT or experience same sex attraction on some level? The more we identify the two things that oppose each other, the greater the cognitive dissonance. I myself am a member of the LDS faith, I also experience same sex attraction (SSA). With no way to secure it in place, the boat would simply drift to sea aimlessly, meaning a total loss for its owner. Macintyre became interested in Operation Mincemeat while conducting research for another book on Eddie Chapman, a British double agent. He was specifically drawn to Ewen Montagu, one of the masterminds behind this operation. Although Montagu had written a book about these events, titled The Man Who Never Was in 1953, Macintyre understood that certain details were omitted from the published work as it first had to be authorized by the Joint Intelligence Committee. In order to fill in the gaps in Montagu s book, Macintyre began to search for the classified documents pertaining to the operation, which he eventually obtained after contacting Montagu s son. In fact, Macintyre eventually obtained Montagu s letters, his unpublished autobiography and the uncensored version of his original book, which would be the sources of information for his new book on Operation Mincemeat. Another factor that led him to write this book was the lack of material on this secret operation available to the public, partly due to the British government s unwillingness to divulge these classified operations from the war for almost fifty years. As the baby grows, the mother s love matures and never waivers. John McPhee demonstrates this concept of a mother s love in his piece, Silk Parachute. In the passage, McPhee recalls some of the memories of his childhood and goes into the underlying concept of an unwavering love from his mother. In Silk Parachute, John McPhee uses the rhetorical devices of dialogue, parallel structure, and symbolism to prove that no matter what happens, a mother s love never fails. In this piece, John McPhee does not regularly use direct methods of discussion to demonstrate his points. As he weaves his way through different methods of figurative language, one of the modes that he uses is dialogue. In a memory he recalls from the passage, he states, It is reported that the following dialogue and ensuing action occurred on January 22, 1941: ... I made that sandwich, and you are going to eat it, Mister Man. You filled yourself up with penny candy on the way home, and now you re not hungry. Among the reasons they give for this is that soldiers think they will be viewed differently by peers if they seek help. 44% of army chaplains and 57% of chaplain assistants conceded that they need more training to help prevent suicide among soldiers. • 32. Longhorn Steakhouse History LongHorn Steakhouse It all started with a man by the name of George McKerrow Jr, who had a passion for delicious steaks. Luckily he had a snowstorm hit his hometown in Atlanta, Georgia that brought stranded motorist into the only hospitable place available a restaurant called LongHorn Steaks Restaurant Saloon. The tales of the expertly grilled steak was spread like a wildfire throughout the towns. This was the beginning of a new chain restaurant called LongHorn Steakhouse, which is known for their Flo s Filet and the Bone In Outlaw, fall of the bone ribs, and hand cut salmon. In later years, LongHorn eventually joined Darden Restaurants with Olive Garden and Red Lobster. With a location in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, it is one of many steakhouses that you can choose from. It is a well organized restaurant that has been serving steak, chicken, and fish for 30 years where the meat is never frozen. In addition to that, it is the only steakhouse that catches the eyes of the customer, usually from the dark red lights that light up during the night. The restaurant is opened Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Friday to Saturday 11:00 to 11:00 PM. As we walk through the double doors of the entrance, we are warmly greeted right away by the LongHorn Staff, who are dressed in black tops and blue jeans. We had dinner at Longhorn after discovering a 30 minute wait at our first restaurant choice. The wait at Longhorn was only about 15 minutes, which was not bad for a ... • 33. The Cosby Show Research Paper There is no other time like the 1980s. The 1980s was a decade of important cultural and political change. Music was punk and loud. Pop culture changed. Fashion was wild and over the top, with lots of makeup, accessories, and big funky hair. Sitcoms did incorporate a lot of these elements; however, sitcoms also addressed social issues and problems. Racism was one of the problems in sitcoms in the 1980s, and three shows that addressed racism were The Cosby Show, A Different World, and Diff rent Strokes. The Cosby Show was an American television sitcom that ran from September 20, 1984 to April 30, 1992. The show focused on an African American family (The Huxtables) who were an upper middle class family living in Brooklyn, New York. The family was very wealthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The show was a television spin off of The Cosby Show. This show showed the life of one of the Huxtables daughter, Denis, going to Hillman College. This show did not only express real life issues and situations, but it also taught the viewers about culture and friendships. Racism was addressed in many ways; however, in season 5 episode 14 Cats in the Cradle both parties were involved. In this episode, students at Hillman College confront a racial act committed by students at a rival school, which resulted in both parties being put in jail and forced to confront their differences. I can t even get a cab to New York. You know it doesn t matter how many degrees I get. All you people see is colour. Your grandfather was an immigrant, you are American. My father was born here duke, and you people still look at me as just another nigger (A Different World, season 5). Maybe you should look at me as an individual, and not as a colour (A Different World, season 5) This episode does not only prove that racism only happens to black people but that it happens to many other cultures, ethnicities, and religions as ... • 34. Maggie, A Girl Of The Streets In Stephen Crane s Maggie, a Girl of the Streets, the reader is given key insight into the daily lives of a family that is torn apart due to their social environment. The story takes place in a poverty stricken area called Rum Alley, which is located in the Bowery. The protagonist Maggie Johnson and her brother Jimmie are shaped by the society that they live in and the interactions they have. Maggie and Jimmie have abusive, alcoholic parents who constantly berate their kids for no good reason, resulting in Jimmie becoming an alcoholic and an abusive womanizer. Maggie was also affected by her social environment, but not in the same way as Jimmie. She was seduced by a boy named Pete and was overwhelmed with the idea that she too could become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the novella, it seems as though Jimmie just naturally has a short fuse and is ready to pick a fight at moments notice, but as the story progresses, the reader comes to the realization that Jimmie s family is torn apart and fighting constantly, affecting Jimmie in a very negative way. Even as a child, Jimmie was found in the streets picking fights with other kids his age. As Jimmie was fighting, his friends egged him on, saying, Smash im Jimmie, kick d face off im! (Crane 4). He mirrors what he sees in the tenement building he calls home, as his mother resorts to violence to enforce anything of her liking or to reprimand her children. Jimmie s violent tendencies were not the only thing he picked up from his mother and father. As Jimmie grows up, he starts getting involved with alcohol, increasing not only his violent tendencies, but also increasing the number of flings he has, flirting and seducing women all the time and leaving them heartbroken after a short period of time, just like his father. Jimmie s behaviour and mannerisms are dictated based off of his social environment, mainly his household, and it further emphasizes that Jimmie s social environment strongly influences the way his life turns out and the way he ... • 35. Promoting A New Rice Wine To promote a new rice wine I have created a 60 second commercial where the enlightened Zen master Ikkyū uses the five basic categories of sabi, wabi, aware, yugen, and ma to demonstrate the kosher of this new product. Ikkyū was used due to his notoriety for his infusion of Japanese art and literature with Zen attitudes and ideals. Ikkyū s significance and understanding of Zen culture made him the perfect candidate to conduct a tea ceremony to demonstrate the quality and spiritualness of the new rice wine. The commercial will begin with a panning shot of a rock pathway leading to a teahouse. In the background of the panning shot will be the rock garden that faces east. The tea ceremony will be taking place at sunrise so that the sun will be rising over the rock garden. During this shot, the sonorous and melancholy chirping of birds will be used to evoke a peaceful but sad emotion. Together the birds and sun will symbolize the beautiful but fragile and ephemeral nature of life, whereby the birds enchanting songs at the start of the day will be silenced by the sun s setting at the end of the day. The panning shot will end at the doorframe and the camera shot will assume an angle from which the viewer will feel that he/she is the one taking part in the tea ceremony. By using cinematography, in particular the anonymity creates a will to produce the idea of standing between being and non being. The doorframe will present a sense of space and emptiness. • 36. What Does The Parachute Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies Lord of the Flies is one the most controversial novels ever written. It shows that people are evil by human nature. The story displays this on different levels: literal and symbolic. In Lord of the Flies, the parachute functions as a turning point in the story. It indirectly causes the death of Simon and it supports the assumption that there is a beast on the island. The parachute foreshadows death, symbolizes fear and reminds the boys about the existence of the adult world. To begin with, the encounter with the parachutist foreshadows and symbolizes death. First of all, a suggestion could be made that the parachute could ve prevented them from being rescued. After the encounter with the parachutist, the boys became more cautious and afraid. ... • 38. Analysis Of The Poem Reluctance In his poem Reluctance , he talks about being in denial and reluctantly carrying on as if the relationship will fix itself. The narrator uses nature to describe the state of his relationship, both longing for healing, but unwilling and unsure of how to go about it. The poem reads, The last lone aster is gone; The flowers of the witch hazel wither; The heart is still aching to seek, But the feet question Whither? (62) The aster flower represents the absence of love and patience. Witch hazel, meaning pliant or bendable, signifies that both parties in the relationship are unwilling to be flexible and understanding of each other s wants, needs, and desires. Their hearts are aching to seek, (62) but they are in denial of any possible way to make the relationship work. The relationship between the last lone aster , witch hazel , and the narrator connect the life and death cycle that is viewable in nature to his relationship. Frost recognizes that knowledge of nature and man s self knowledge were thus interdependent. (63) By understanding this, he can apply the wisdom to his relationship. A flower, as well as a relationship, need to be tended to or will begin the wither. Nevertheless, the life of the flower or relationship is never guaranteed. In love, one must remain flexible, knowing that even as a flower begins to wither , there may still be a way to bring it back to life. No matter how much knowledge is acquired throughout a lifetime, wisdom is in knowing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
