Dstopia As A Dystopia In The Giver
n society wasn t as perfect as he thought it was. Jonas s community is a dystopia because there is no
contact with others outside the community, there is killing of the young and old, and there is no
freedom. Jonas s community is a dystopia because they are isolated from everything. The citizens of
the community have no knowledge of what animals are and when Jonas tries to tell his sister, Lily, she
laughs as stated on page 127 in the novel... did you know that once there really were elephants? Live
ones? . She glanced down at the ragged comfort object and grinned. Right. she said, skeptically. Sure
Jonas. . This comes to show that Jonas s sister has no clue that there were once living, breathing
animals. The inhabitants of his community also have no form of technology, which means they can t
communicate with others living outside the community. There are no phones, no TVs, no computers,
etc. Their community is totally isolated in terms of technology and using it to communicate with
others outside of their community. Not only do they not have technology, but they don t have books.
Only two people have books in the whole community Jonas and The Giver. There is also no form of
weather, even sunshine. The residents of this community have no idea what rain, snow, and other
natural events are. Could you imagine no sunshine? On page 218 it states Jonas had never seen rain
which further proves my point on the fact that they have never seen any kind of weather. In

Islamic Cultural History
Few phenomena have had as significant of an impact on modern culture as terrorism. Following the
rise of the Islamic State in 2014, acts of terror perpetrated by the would be caliphate have headlined
global news cycles, rife with displays of atrocity and a deadly ambition to create a country ruled by
extremist ideals. However, in the broader context of history, what will have the most significant effect
on cultural memory is not the fact that these terrorists and ideologues attempted to form a state, but
that it was one claimed to be inherently Islamic. The resulting culture of fear, othering , and
Islamophobia experienced across the developed world will cement the place of the Islamic State in
cultural history, even as the group itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media has played an unprecedented role in the phenomenon of the Islamic State, and will ensure
its continuing relevance in cultural history. Through extensive coverage of its actions, both in the
middle east and in the west, the Islamic State has generated a fear of terrorism unlike any in recent
history. Constant images of executions, IS flags, and videos of soldiers patrolling captured cities are
made inescapable by the prevalence of social media. This coverage ...has not caused the change in the
nature of acts of terror over the past decades but it has made it easier for terrorist organizations to
reach and instill fear in (most predominantly) the West (Galily et al. 1063). Recent evidence supports
this, including a 2017 study that determined news reports on terrorism can cause a fear of terrorism in
those watching that was previously absent. (Sikorski et al. 840). In addition, the fear caused by the
inundation of media surrounding the Islamic State was magnified by often unpredictable lone wolf
attacks on western cities. Concerning this, Kaplan and Costa remark that ...what seemed to have
changed ... was not the likelihood of dramatic terrorism on the scale of the 9/11 attacks so much as the
specter of low level IS inspired terrorism in the West (Kaplan and Costa 929). The knowledge that
radicals could perpetrate attacks in major cities like Paris and

How Did The Printing Press Contribute To The Reformation
The printing press and its involvement in the reformation
Sometime before 1450 Johann Guttenburg developed the printing press, this invention made the
printing of lengthy texts far easier. In the years following Gutenberg s era to Luther s, printing as an
industry was improving exponentially. The press received mechanical improvements, increasing
efficiency. Printing also became a large industry with large facilities dedicated to printing. The
Reformation would prove good to the printing industry as more and more lengthy material was
written. Gone was the need for manuscripts and the long process of hand written works. Martin Luther
nailed his Ninety Five Theses to the door of the Wittenberg church on October 31, 1517. He wanted to

It was important to Luther and indeed any writer to pick the best publisher for the job. Grunenberg
was used to publish Luther s Seven Penitential Psalms. Grunenberg s placement in Wittenberg
University was very fortuitous for Martin Luther as he was able to monitor and oversee all the work
that Grunenberg was doing for him while he was teaching at Wittenberg. At some point Luther
became unhappy with the work Grunenberg and went on to work with Melchior Lotther who
established a printing shop in the University to work for Luther . Luther and Lotther had a good
working relationship and Luthers publications prospered under Lotthers printing. If Luther was
placing such an emphasis on the relationship and work ethic of his printer, then we could conclude
from this that Martin Luther himself placed a great emphasis on the printing press and recognised it s
importance. Without its invention, the speed and reach of Luther s and indeed other reformer s
writings would have been stunted. The press allowed Luther to try new things when it came to
publishing such as publishing the first part of a book to see how much interest there was for it before
releasing the rest. This could be used to reduce the chance of a financial disaster and could possibly be
the first time such a thing was

Body Decomposition Research Paper
Understanding of how bodies decompose, the life cycles of the bugs that are attracted to that body,
what to look for, proper personal protective equipment, and infectious viruses will assist you on the
scene of a decomposing body. This paper will go in detail on the stages of decomposition and the life
cycle of blow flies.
Walking into a crime scene of a decomposition victim is one of the most grotesque sights you may see
on the job. Having the knowledge of how bodies decompose, the life cycles of the bugs that are
attracted to that body, what to look for, proper personal protective equipment, and infectious viruses

blow flies have been known to carry diseases they do not carry blood borne pathogens. Human
immunodeficiency virus or HIV is not known to survive long outside of the body. Reasoning is that
HIV is unable to reproduce outside of the body. Hepatitis A virus or HAV is known to be able to last
for months outside of the body. The main way to kill HAV is by heating it to extremely high
temperatures for at least a minute, freezing temperatures do not affect this virus. Hepatitis B virus or
HBV is known to survive around a week outside of the body. The best way to clean it up blood
containing the hepatitis B virus, whether wet or dry, is with a disinfecting mixture like bleach and
water. Hepatitis C virus or HCV is known to survive around 3 weeks outside of the

Network Switching and Routing Essays
Switching Routing
The purpose of this paper is to provide a better understanding of switching and routing used in a
network environment and familiarize the reader with various hardware and software associated with
there functions. This paper will look at some switching concepts that will include store and forward
switching, cut through switching, fragment free switching, and V Lan. This paper will also cover
routing concepts, along with some comparisons including routed vs. routing protocols, Classful vs.
classless protocols, and distance vector vs. link state protocols.

There are hybrid switches available today that combine both store and forward and cut through
switching methods. These hybrids are known as runtless or fragment free switches. Fragment free
switches were designed to solve the late collision problem and are primarily used in the backbone of
congested networks. These hybrids check both the source and destination MAC address of a packet
then make the appropriate switching to send the packet to its corresponding destination (Javvin
Technologies,Inc., 2008).
VLANs
VLANs or Virtual Local Area Networks are logical local area networks that extend beyond the
traditional LAN architecture. Because a VLAN is a logical entity, creating and configuring a VLAN is
done completely in software. The advantages to using this type of LAN include but are not limited to
the ability to conserve the network resources, to bridge geographical drawbacks, and to better manage
the movement of personnel and equipment. To understand the need for VLANs you must first
understand the Local Area Network (LAN). The definition of a LAN started as a group of computers
that were connected in the same area, but today s LAN is defined as a single broadcast domain. This is
explained easily by looking at a large organization where each department would be on a separate
LAN found behind a router or switch. With today s expanding networks it has become important for

Singapore s Economic Growth And Political Stability
Founded as a British trading colony in 1819, Singapore later joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963,
but separated two years later and became independent. Over the years, Singapore has grown its
international trading links becoming one of the most prosperous countries. Singapore has been
compared to the leading nations of Western Europe when it comes to its per capita gross domestic
product (GDP). Singapore has one of the world s busiest ports when comparing most tonnage handled.
After officially gaining sovereignty in 1965, the People s Action Party (PAP) has dominated Singapore
s politics. With a large amount of government controlled companies in the local economy, and its
powerful position, Singapore s government has maintained a clean, corruption free image. With their
dealings with communists during the early years the PAP s governing philosophy is best described as a
Socialist Democracy. Maintained by the paternal guidance of the PAP, came Economic growth and
political stability. Even though bureaucrats not politicians administer Singapore, meritocracy is power,
which is gained through performance, skill, and loyalty to the policies of the nation. The Constitution
of Singapore is the Supreme law. With the constitution for the three organs of the state (Executive, the
Legislative, and the Judiciary), It lays down the fundamental principles and framework for them to

Bullying Is The Job Of Parents And Schools
Bullying is when you force someone to do something they do not want to, and it can cause stress or
then leads to suicide in some cases. In Schoolyard Bullies by Stephanie Simon, prosecutor James
Backstrom maintains school bullies should go to jail. However, I do not think bullies should go to jail,
because there are different degrees of bullying. Some bullies are victims, and sending bullies to jail
does not cure them. Stopping bullying is the job of parents and schools. Parents play a key role in
preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the warning signs that the child is
involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying others, or witnessing bullying.
Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should talk to their children if they display any
sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times children won t ask for help, so it is important to
know what to look for. If the child is at immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to
get help right away. Just sending the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a
good way to correct children s behaviors. I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly
big stick, says Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. You can get the same payoff
with a lot less drastic measures (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change
their mind, even though their behavior will be

Stereotypes of African American in Film and Television 1
African American has always been in some type of stereotype when it comes to films or television.
This is nothing new to society for instance it has being going throughout history. These forms of
stereotyping begin as early as the 19th century with minstrel shows which portrayed blackface
characters.
The minstrel show would consist of showing African American people in stereotypical and often
disparaging ways, as ignorant, lazy, buffoonish, superstitious, joyous, and musical. But on the other ...

of color in a wealthy neighborhood they would approach them and ask if they belong there. Another
good example of this also is if a police officer sees an afro American driving a new car in a nice
neighborhood they would perceived that they do not belong there. On the personal side I have also has
witness this type of injustice. I have seen this type matter occur several times in department stores,
where a salesperson would follow a black customer around the store as if they were so type of
criminal. The situation is different when it is involving a white

Kangaroo Care
Babies are born without a fully developed brain because if they were their precious little heads would
be too big to birth!
Despite their underdeveloped brain, we expect babies to sleep in separate rooms, self soothe and
assume too much crying would mean a serious problem.
In first three months of your littles one s life, their brain grows twenty percent!! This sizeable growth
is even more noticeable in your baby s behavior. In the first couple days of life, babies can only pay
attention to objects up to 12 inches away compared to 3 to 4 months later they can see objects across
the room and respond to the direction of different sounds.
This common knowledge is often ignored. These first 3 to 4 months should still be viewed as a
continuation of a gestational period. Mothers need to begin to mimic the actions of a mama kangaroo.

Kangaroo care has become increasingly popular In hospitals all over the world. Kangaroo care is
when a baby has skin to skin contact with the mother or father immediately after birth. There are
numerous benefits for the baby laying on the caregiver s bare skin, including, stabilizing the infant s
heart rate, decreasing crying, and increased milk supply for the mother.
In my previous article about the forgotten reflex, I discussed the how important the first months of a
newborn s life and how a mother s response to their crying is vital for current and future development.
Americans view the most important American value we teach our children is independence. This starts
almost immediately after birth. Our baby is fresh out of the cozy womb, and we stick them in a decked

We do this out of love because we want our children to grow up to be independent thinkers and stand

Negative Impact Of Video Games
Video games can sometimes get a bad reputation but due to contrary belief, video games have been a
positive impact on today s society. Both children and adults have benefitted from the use of video
games. Not to mention the ginormous community video games have brought with it. With things like
Esports, video game companies, and the cognitive benefits for adults and children video games are
here to stay. So how have they affected today s society in a positive way?
If you don t know, esports are multiplayer video games played competitively for spectators, typically
by professional gamers. It is broadcast worldwide similar to any major sports competition. The esports
industry has grown significantly in the past few years. In comparison, the national league of legends
competition has 27 million viewers. Based on an article by Ben Casselman on ESPN, in 2014 this was
the second most watched event on ESPN in 2014. Video games are growing fast. Also in 2014, the
video game industry alone added $6.2 billion to the U.S. Economy, providing approximately 146,000
jobs. The culture of eSports is like nothing else. eSports provides a community for people who don t
have one, or maybe sit on their computers and play video games all day. eSports has turned a
community of nerds into something people are actually taking seriously. eSports and the video game
industry are not just here for entertainment, but they are boosting the U.S. Economy, creating jobs for

Research Paper On Aids
Although advancements in AIDS research have continued over the past 2 decades, the misconception
that people can contract the AIDS virus from sharing a drink is still prevalent. Aids is a major issue
throughout the world and kills many people. One of the problems with aids is that it can kill people. A
current solution for aids is there are medicines that people suffering from aids take and these
medicines increase a person with aids life span. A future plan for aids is to find a cure so that people
stop dying from aids. Aids is a recurring problem throughout history and it needs to be stopped so
people stop dying. Aids can spread through many ways but unprotected sex and sharing needles for
drugs are the main reasons aids spreads. This is a problem because people can have aids for years
without even knowing they have it so they can spread it through several people in their life whether
that be through drugs or sex. This is a problem because many people can get infected because of
this. Many people can get infected by one person who doesn t know they have aids. People who get are
aids deteriorating their body. A lot of people who have hiv are unaware that they even have it ( The
Scripps Research Institute ).The spread of aids is bad because people who don t know they have it can
blindlessly spread it to many people. There are many causes for aids.
Aids has many ways to be contracted. There are many people who get aids and don t know about it.

Analysis Of John 10 s The Good Shepherd And Christ s...
Jesus s stories and words bring both comfort and revelation to people around the world. The stories
that are contained in the four Gospels are those that share Christ s doctrine as well as the history of the
Savior. However, to say that the Gospel stories and doctrine cannot be applied to the modern reader
would be incorrect. One of these Gospels, John, contains a particularly important message for both the
historical and modern reader. In John 10, a variety of integral stories and important doctrine is
outlined. In John 10, both the story of the Good Shepherd and Christ s interactions with the Jewish
leaders give insight to the historical reference and meaning of the doctrine in a modern setting. John
10 is a very interesting and important block of scripture. It covers the idea of Christ as the Good
Shepherd. He states in John 10:11, I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the
sheep. This presents one of the main ideas of John 10, which is that Christ is the leader of His sheep,
which are His people. He declares that the good shepherd will die for his flock, which is exactly what
Christ does. He also defends his statements from the Jewish leaders, as they want to stone him for
uttering such blasphemy , according to Blair G. VanDyke. He uses both old scriptures and logic to
defend his position, which brings interesting implications in a modern context. Both of these ideas and
their importance can be viewed in differing perspectives from both

Use Of Syntax And Imagery In Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer, wrote many short stories in his lifetime. One of those stories is
The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, a person murders an old man because of his eye. Poe has
also written Hop Frog, where a king s jester murders the king and his seven ministers as revenge for
striking his friend. In both stories, Poe uses narrative elements to develop a narrative point of view. He
develops a third person objective point of view in Hop Frog, and develops a first person point of view
in The Tell Tale Heart. Poe uses syntax and imagery to develop a point of view in both stories, but
uses repetition and metaphors for one story and allusions and sarcasm for the other.
Syntax and imagery help develop a point of view in both The Tell Tale Heart and Hop Frog. In The
Tell Tale Heart, the story is mostly in a first person point of view. A narrator is recounting his murder
of an old man. Since the story is in a first person point of view, readers can see the narrator s personal
thoughts and opinions. Syntax helps characterize the narrator and show his personality. For example,
the story says, So I opened it you cannot imagine how stealthily, stealthily until, at length a simple dim
ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye. In this
quotation, Poe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Tell Tale Heart, Poe uses repetition and metaphors. Poe uses repetition to help characterize the
narrator as mad. For example, the story says ...hark! louder! louder! louder! louder! The repetition also
creates suspense. Poe uses metaphors to foreshadow what will happen. For example, the story says He
had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Vultures are scavenging birds who circle
around and eat dead organisms. This connection to death foreshadows that death will happen in the

But how can a charismatic leader motivates others to follow and how can others effect on the leader to

According to Howell, without followers, there are plainly no leaders or leadership (2006).
Furthermore, followers are more important because if they do not follow, there is not leader (Howell,
2006). Howell mentioned that in order to understand the process of leadership it is important to
explore the behavior of the followers (2006). He also added that in many followers perception a
charismatic leader has a heroic personality and capable to persuade followers in a group or
organization(Howell, 2006).The followers believe that their leader has power and ability or think him
or her mighty (Howell, 2006). While this is exaggeration in the perception and this can also lead in a
very different and wrong path. If a leader s vision is negative, than the followers will follow without

My First Day Of Class
First Day of Class
In the words of Harry Wong, The first day of class is the most important day of the school year . Since
this day is so important I will have had to prepare a few things before the day actually starts. I will
have assigned seats in my classroom before the day starts, and I will have written my bell work
activity for the class before they arrive. Finally, I will have all the materials I need for that day within
reach, so I am prepared for transitions.
Class length 8:40 9:34
Pre class time 8:15 8:40
I will stand outside my classroom looking for my students.
When I see my students I will great them, introduce myself as Mr. Zaruba, their 8th grade science
teacher, and tell them to find their seat and read the board.
Greeting the children at the door starts them off with a comfortable first day, and allows me to set the
expectation of getting to work right away.
Beginning activity 8:40 8:55
Bell work will be listed on the board for them to complete.
The bell work for the first day will be a questionnaire for the students to fill out. The activity will
provide me with crucial information about my students interests and goals.
I will collect the bell work after 7 minutes and begin to go over my expectations in the class.
My expectations will be presented in a fun music themed PowerPoint that will not take me longer than
8 minutes max.
At the end of the PowerPoint, I will have my students repeat the expectations back to me.

Analysis Of The US Department Of Health And Human Services
The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is an agency under the US Secretary of
Health and Human Services that protects and provides health and human services to American
citizens. The agency administers more than 100 programs some of which include: social services,
health insurance, prevention and wellness, research, among others (HHS, 2017). This assignment
analyzes of the agency s policies, procedures, and plans regarding unions, privatization, pensions, and
productivity.
The Agency and Unions
Employees at the US Department of the DHHS are allowed to join workers union. Since these are

In addition, it is beneficial to the employees as through the union, things like wages and insurance

The Agency and Privatization
The main role of the DHHS is to protect the health of the citizens as well as offer human services
while promoting social services and public health. The agency is under the leadership of the US
Secretary of Health and Human Sciences who is directly appointed the president. Privatization of the
agency implies that the services and programs offered by the agency would be contracted with private
vendors. In case of a privatization, programs and services such as social services, health insurance,
public health and safety, and emergency preparedness and response would no longer be provided by
the government and citizens would seek these services from individual providers.
However, such services should only be provided by the government mainly because of the resources
involved and the coverage. There is no opportunity for privatization as this would mean that the
government would no longer be responsible for the protection of health and human services. The key
reasons why the agency should not privatize revolve around the quality of health and human services
as well as maintaining government jobs. Since the agency mainly offers health and related social
services, there are concerns that private companies will reduce the amount of

Effects Of Video Games Essay
Video games and their effect on teenagers and young adults. This a big issue with many people
concerned with other people s health and their own. Especially for the past few years where video
games have become so popular among teens and young adults. Research has been done several times
over and over. So this why people are wondering is good or bad to play video games. Is playing video
games good or bad ? Research has shown that it helps to improve the cognitive function. According to
research, it changes the brain structure exactly the same way while playing the piano. It also helps the
same way as reading. The combination of concentration and the surge of neurotransmitters strengthens
the neural circuits that build the brain. Research has also proved that it helps hand and eye
coordination. It has shown teens can learn spatial, visual, and iconic skills from the video games.
Some games require a great deal of visual spatial ability and hand eye coordination to be
successful.the player has to coordinate the brain s reaction and interpretation with his hands and
fingertip movements. It also has to calculate the timing exactly. Video games also improve quick
thinking and accuracy. It trains that brain to make fast decisions without losing accuracy. Video games
can also train surgeons and soldiers. It improves child s decisions making skills. Teens playing video

Chemical Reactions And Functions Of The Chemistry
Nuclear chemistry is the study of the reactions and functions of the chemistry uses of the nucleus. The
nucleus contains two types of components called the nucleons, which consist of the proton and
neutron. The mass number of an atom is defined by the sum of the protons and neutrons; the atomic
number of an atom is defined by the number of protons only. Atoms which have different mass
numbers but have the same atomic number are referred as isotopes, for example carbon 12, 13, and
14.Nucleus with special numbers of the neutron and protons are referred as nuclides. Radio nuclides
are usually unstable and it continuously emits particles as well as emits the electromagnetic radiation.
Emission is the process of the unstable nucleus to undergo and become stable, this way it reduces the
cost of the energy. For example the Uranium 238,which decays into an alpha particle (Helium
nucleus) and a nucleon (Thorium 234). When the Uranium 238 decays it decomposed at the same
time, this process can be also called as alpha decayed. The equation for that is:238U92 234Th90 +

Temple In Jerusalem
For many years the Israelis and the Palestinians have been occupied with an intense and savage clash
over nationhood and statehood. The authentic foundations of the hugeness of the area contained inside
of Israel can be followed back to the season of King Solomon in 957 BCE, from that point forward the
Jewish individuals have been cruelly oppressed by religious extremists and political tyrants. Through
persistence and occupation the Jews secured the guaranteed land in 1948 after two severe worldwide
wars. Be that as it may, brutality proceeds as Israel and Palestine can t resolve their disparities in light
of the fact that they are unwilling to forget the past. The two state arrangement has been rejected and

The Immigration Restriction Act (IRA)
During the last decades of the nineteenth century, anxiety arose in the Australian colonies about the
amount of coloured immigrants travelling to Australia, particularly from China (National Archives of
Australia, 2015). Subsequently, one of the first legislations in the new Federal Parliament was the
Immigration Restriction Act (IRA). This Act made it almost impossible for Asians and Pacific
Islanders to migrate to Australia, along with the Pacific Islander Labourers Act and the Post and
Telegraph Act 1901 (NSW Migration Heritage Centre, 2010).
The aim of this and other related legislation was to limit coloured immigration and thus preserve the
leadership of the British (National Archives of Australia, 2015). Two days before Christmas Day ...

Factors Determining The Form Of Legal Business Entity
Factors Considered In Deciding the Form of Legal Business Entity
When starting a new business, it is very important to decide the form of legal entity which may be
appropriate based on a number of factors. The legal entity can be sole proprietorship, partnerships
(general and limited liability partnerships), limited liability companies, or corporations. One of the
most important factors to consider when deciding the appropriate form of legal business entity is
complexity. If one has limited capital and wishes to start a simple business unit, then sole
proprietorship is the most appropriate. The second factor is the need for protection from the risk of
liabilities. If the new business operates in a volatile industry where it is possible to experience huge
financial losses, then a limited liability company or partnership can be considered appropriate. The
ease of formation is another factor. It is easy to form a sole proprietorship as opposed to other forms of
businesses. The issue of taxation may also influence the form of business entity that a person or group
of people may choose. The aim is always to minimize tax as much as possible. According to
Chiappinelli (2006), another important factor that should always be considered is the ease with which
capital can be raised. It is easier to raise capital in limited liability companies or in corporations than it
is in sole proprietorship.

The Icon Of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion
The Icon of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion For a movie released in 1978 it still holds true to the
drama of high school and the cliche of summer love. Grease became a classic for the same reasons as
American Graffiti, it explored the life of teens and culture during the fifties. The film director Randal
Kleiser cast a previous academy award nominee, John Travolta and rising Australian star Olivia
Newton John and it now is the epitome of their careers. The musical is a romantic comedy that takes
place in the late fifties with a summer fling between greaser Danny Zuko and good girl Sandy. They
parted with the conclusion of summer, but when school resumes, they find themselves attending the
same high school. It follows Danny and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t birds and
pink ladies. Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it s lively music, dancing,
humor and simple story lines. Some would consider the casting in Grease to be a flaw because they
are meant to portray teenagers and all the main actors and actresses were well into their twenties.
Stockard Channing, who played Rizzo was thirty three when they began filming, Olivia Newton John
was twenty eight, and John Travolta was twenty three. They cast doesn t even look like they could be
high school students, but I think it was worth it to be able to include good actors and actresses.
Furthermore, from the feminist perspective the movie is categorized as bad because of the

The expectations for an elegant, extremely comfortable lifestyle have gotten much higher, when the
reality is that 85% of the world s population are living in countries with extremely high poverty rates.

The Tim O Brian s short story, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mary Anne Bell is a rare illustration

one could seem more faultless. She was the definition of a true young American teenager or at least
that s what they all assumed at first. In the beginning of the story, she is something noticeable to both
the soldiers and the reader: she was expected to be a normal American girl who wanted nothing more

Cotton Slavery Essay
LIFE ON A PLANTATION When the cotton gin was invented in 1793 it solidified the need for slaves
in the south. Cotton was by far the leading cash crop. By 1830 slavery was primarily located in the
South. In the lower South the majority of slaves lived and worked on cotton plantations. Slaves of the
South fueled an economic engine based on cotton. Seventy five percent of Southern whites did not
own slaves. Life on the fields meant working sunup to sundown and worked six days a week. Their
behavior and movement was restricted. Slaves lived in small shacks with a dirt floor and little or no
furniture. Life on large plantations with a cruel overseer was oftentimes the worst. If slaves had
complains that they were being unfairly treated, slaveholders would most often be very protective of
their property and would release the overseer. Adult male slaves were used to tend the fields, pastures,
and gardens. Female slaves and young children usually served as domestic slaves, tending to the

Organized Exercise Analysis
The goal I choose to follow over the last two months was to have some form of organized exercise a
day, whether it be running, basketball, or lifting weights. When I first made the plan, it was to run
every morning at 11am and then again at 9pm, and any other exercise that happened to cross my way
that day I would also include. However, by then end of my trip I found my plan had changed much
from what it started as out. To help with the work of accomplishing this goal, I used two useful tools I
had that I thought would make it easier. Firstly, I had my parents send me a text every morning to

that it would provide some challenge as I would have to go run twice every day, which would be good

that would prevent me from reaching my goal is laziness, having a poor diet, or doing something that

Come Visit South Africa
South Africa, which is the southernmost country on the African continent, is bordered by the Atlantic
Ocean on its west coast and by the Indian Ocean on both south and east coasts. It is renowned for its
varied geography, extreme natural beauty, and cultural diversity. All of those attributes make it a
desirable destination for travelers. Its neighbors are Namibia in the northwest, Zimbabwe and
Botswana in the north, and Mozambique and Swaziland in the northeast. The kingdom of Lesotho
forms an enclave within the southeast part of South Africa, which occupies an area nearly three times
that of California.
To give a bit of background the San people were the first settlers in South Africa; the Khoikhoi and
Bantu speaking tribes followed. The Dutch East India Company landed the first European settlers on
the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, starting a colony that by the end of the 18th century numbered only
about 15,000. Known as Boers or Afrikaners, and speaking a Dutch dialect known as Afrikaans, the
settlers as early as 1795 tried to establish an independent republic. After occupying the Cape Colony
in that year, Britain took permanent possession in 1815 at the end of the Napoleonic Wars, bringing in
5,000 settlers.
Anglicization of government and the freeing of slaves in 1833 drove about 12,000 of what were called
Afrikaners to make the great trek north and east into African tribal territory, where they established the
republics of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. The

Causative considerations are multifactorial regarding the development of low health literacy rates in
Aboriginals, inclusive of socio economical disadvantages, geographical considerations, and
social/environmental influences (Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet, 2015). Differing
conceptualisations of reality or worldview are present within Aboriginal culture, which vary from
westernised civilisation. Indigenous history lacks a biomedical background, and encompasses
differing views of disease/illness, which may be associated with personal actions/behaviours, social

Appearance Vs Reality Research Paper
Reality? What Reality?
Meditation can be a double edged tool. It can reveal the nature of actual reality, but in doing so it also
reveals many other states of consciousness that we experience as real but are not usually aware of their
true nature, depending on our present level of awareness. So, while meditation can show us true
reality, in the process we may realize that we have been living in a conceptual representation of reality
for perhaps years or even a whole lifetime.
Many of those who pursue meditation as a means of achieving self realization or self awareness reach
a point where they suddenly begin to perceive on an intuitive level, a truth that is fundamental to their
well being and sense of self and security, at which point some choose to continue and some choose to
discontinue the journey of meditation. In fact, this is a well known obstacle in meditation that has to
do with the true nature of reality and our perception or lack of perception of what is real.
Who Or What Is Aware
Suppose we go on an intellectual version of an actual meditation experience. We are sitting in a quiet
room surrounded by the familiar objects of our life. We place a candle on a low table before where we
intend to sit and meditate. There is little light in the room and we light the candle before us and begin

meditation which would eventually reveal the

movie breaks the stereotype that a disable person cannot be smart. Unfortunately, the film reaffirms
the conception of the people as unable to adjust. Not always a disable person is a victim or has a
miserable and negative life. Bipolar disorder is one disease that appears in movies often. Pat is a
young man just out of a mental health center after being diagnosed with this illness. He is the main
character in Silver Linings Playbook (2012. In the introduction of the film, Pat speaks to his court
ordered therapist Cliff Patel, and he reveals why he was hospitalized: one day he left his high school

Theme Of Power And Corruption In The Most Dangerous Game
Power and corruption have always gone hand in hand with the world today. The characters in the short
stories. Monkey s Paw by Richard Connell is about a family getting the gift of a monkey s paw that
holds three wishes and instead of heeding the warning of an old friend, they use the wishes for
horrible consequences. The Most Dangerous Game follows the story of a young man who gets trapped
on an island with a man called General Zaroff that hunts the unfortunate people who stumble across
the island. How to transform is about an eighth grader who learns lessons about life as he practices
playing basketball in an old gym. These stories have the motif of power and corruption throughout the
story, and though this motif comes the theme of each short story. Power and corruption are used
throughout The Most Dangerous Game to show some myths hold true. In The Most Dangerous Game
when Rainsford first describes General Zaroff right hand man Ivan The menacing look in the eyes did
not change. The revolver pointed as rigidly as if the giant were a statute (Connell 3).Ivan has the
power here to let Rainsford go,however he is corrupted by the general s thinking. He is also corrupted
by his love of power that he holds over the innocent victims that land on this island. As the night
carries on General Zaroff describes his methods of restocking the island, he says Sometimes an angry
god of the high seas sends them to me, sometimes when providence is not so kind

Istj Case Study
After taking the survey I learned that I was an Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging or ISTJ. ISTJ s
are known for keeping the rules and not liking things that have unclear rules. They also hate when
things or people have inconsistencies, or when people do not keep up their end of an agreement. They
love being apart of organized groups such as government, schools, the military, and churches because
they all have a set way of doing things and do not sway in their beliefs. Their social skills are excellent
because they are precise and to the point. Feelings are something that ISTJ s have a hard time
discussing, because feelings are random and out of their control. When ISTJ s are learning something

An Example of a Law Memo and its Analysis The Memo | Analysis of the Memo | In Maryland, an
injured worker is not covered by workers compensation if the worker is classified as a casual
employee. Two opinions from the Maryland Court of Appeals assist in understanding when a worker
will be classified as a casual employee. | Paragraph No. 1 tells the reader that the topic is casual
employee status in the context of workers compensation law. It also tells the reader that Maryland case
law will be the authority used as the basis for the memo. Sentence 1 ends with the term casual
employee and sentence 2 repeats this term. This is a transition device to establish coherence between
the sentences. | The Maryland Workers Compensation Act allows only regular employees to recover
benefits; casual employees are specifically excepted. Md. Ann. Code art. 101, sec. 21(c)(4) (Repl. Vol.
1985). The statute does not define casual employee. Maryland appellate courts have recognized
factors that indicate when a worker is casual as opposed to regular. Casual employees generally
perform work that is not related to the employer s business nor in furtherance of that business.

Analysis Of The Century Quilt
Quilts are traditionally thought of as precious antiques that illustrate rich history and imagery. Their
fabric is laced with beautiful patterns accounting tales of the past that older generations with to
preserve. In Marilyn Nelson Waniek s poem, The Century Quilt, Nelson employs structure, vivid
imagery, and a fanciful tone to illustrate how a family quilt is used to connect generations with one
another with this precious family heirloom.
Waniek s choice of structure for this particular poem is unique in that it alternates between short
phrases and winded, descriptive lines. This gives the poem the child like atmosphere that Waniek was
intending to illustrate. It is evident that the author is an older individual who is reflecting on both their
life and the lives of those who had used the quilt prior. Thus, the alternating between short and long
phrases truly captures the essence of childlike excitement in that an individual is excited ... Show more

Each square holding a sweet gum leaf and its pattern of leaves definitely gives the impression that this
quilt is a magnificent and encompassing tree. Trees are traditionally thought of as old and full of
meaning, having many branches and leaves stemming from the same trunk. This parallels the meaning
of the quilt to the individual since it is a tool by which the individual can relate and think of those, in
his family, who may have also taken comfort and enjoyed the whimsical essence of this tree.
Additionally, this quilt allows for the individual to fantasize about the days of those who used the
blanket before: his [gentle] mother and [proud] father. He is able to imagine their lives with fanciful
imagery while also questioning who will take the blanket next, perhaps a son, the speaker says. This
furthers the quilt s comparison to a magnificent tree in that the quilt is passed down generation to
generation through a family

  • 2. Dstopia As A Dystopia In The Giver n society wasn t as perfect as he thought it was. Jonas s community is a dystopia because there is no contact with others outside the community, there is killing of the young and old, and there is no freedom. Jonas s community is a dystopia because they are isolated from everything. The citizens of the community have no knowledge of what animals are and when Jonas tries to tell his sister, Lily, she laughs as stated on page 127 in the novel... did you know that once there really were elephants? Live ones? . She glanced down at the ragged comfort object and grinned. Right. she said, skeptically. Sure Jonas. . This comes to show that Jonas s sister has no clue that there were once living, breathing animals. The inhabitants of his community also have no form of technology, which means they can t communicate with others living outside the community. There are no phones, no TVs, no computers, etc. Their community is totally isolated in terms of technology and using it to communicate with others outside of their community. Not only do they not have technology, but they don t have books. Only two people have books in the whole community Jonas and The Giver. There is also no form of weather, even sunshine. The residents of this community have no idea what rain, snow, and other natural events are. Could you imagine no sunshine? Following the rise of the Islamic State in 2014, acts of terror perpetrated by the would be caliphate have headlined global news cycles, rife with displays of atrocity and a deadly ambition to create a country ruled by extremist ideals. However, in the broader context of history, what will have the most significant effect on cultural memory is not the fact that these terrorists and ideologues attempted to form a state, but that it was one claimed to be inherently Islamic. The resulting culture of fear, othering , and Islamophobia experienced across the developed world will cement the place of the Islamic State in cultural history, even as the group itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The media has played an unprecedented role in the phenomenon of the Islamic State, and will ensure its continuing relevance in cultural history. Through extensive coverage of its actions, both in the middle east and in the west, the Islamic State has generated a fear of terrorism unlike any in recent history. Constant images of executions, IS flags, and videos of soldiers patrolling captured cities are made inescapable by the prevalence of social media. This coverage ...has not caused the change in the nature of acts of terror over the past decades but it has made it easier for terrorist organizations to reach and instill fear in (most predominantly) the West (Galily et al. 1063). Recent evidence supports this, including a 2017 study that determined news reports on terrorism can cause a fear of terrorism in those watching that was previously absent. (Sikorski et al. 840). In addition, the fear caused by the inundation of media surrounding the Islamic State was magnified by often unpredictable lone wolf attacks on western cities. Concerning this, Kaplan and Costa remark that ...what seemed to have changed ... was not the likelihood of dramatic terrorism on the scale of the 9/11 attacks so much as the specter of low level IS inspired terrorism in the West (Kaplan and Costa 929). The knowledge that radicals could perpetrate attacks in major cities like Paris and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did The Printing Press Contribute To The Reformation The printing press and its involvement in the reformation Sometime before 1450 Johann Guttenburg developed the printing press, this invention made the printing of lengthy texts far easier. In the years following Gutenberg s era to Luther s, printing as an industry was improving exponentially. The press received mechanical improvements, increasing efficiency. Printing also became a large industry with large facilities dedicated to printing. The Reformation would prove good to the printing industry as more and more lengthy material was written. Gone was the need for manuscripts and the long process of hand written works. Martin Luther nailed his Ninety Five Theses to the door of the Wittenberg church on October 31, 1517. He wanted to discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was important to Luther and indeed any writer to pick the best publisher for the job. Grunenberg was used to publish Luther s Seven Penitential Psalms. Grunenberg s placement in Wittenberg University was very fortuitous for Martin Luther as he was able to monitor and oversee all the work that Grunenberg was doing for him while he was teaching at Wittenberg. At some point Luther became unhappy with the work Grunenberg and went on to work with Melchior Lotther who established a printing shop in the University to work for Luther . Luther and Lotther had a good working relationship and Luthers publications prospered under Lotthers printing. If Luther was placing such an emphasis on the relationship and work ethic of his printer, then we could conclude from this that Martin Luther himself placed a great emphasis on the printing press and recognised it s importance. Without its invention, the speed and reach of Luther s and indeed other reformer s writings would have been stunted. The press allowed Luther to try new things when it came to publishing such as publishing the first part of a book to see how much interest there was for it before releasing the rest. This could be used to reduce the chance of a financial disaster and could possibly be the first time such a thing was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Singapore has been compared to the leading nations of Western Europe when it comes to its per capita gross domestic product (GDP). Singapore has one of the world s busiest ports when comparing most tonnage handled. After officially gaining sovereignty in 1965, the People s Action Party (PAP) has dominated Singapore s politics. With a large amount of government controlled companies in the local economy, and its powerful position, Singapore s government has maintained a clean, corruption free image. With their dealings with communists during the early years the PAP s governing philosophy is best described as a Socialist Democracy. Maintained by the paternal guidance of the PAP, came Economic growth and political stability. Even though bureaucrats not politicians administer Singapore, meritocracy is power, which is gained through performance, skill, and loyalty to the policies of the nation. The Constitution of Singapore is the Supreme law. • 8. Bullying Is The Job Of Parents And Schools Bullying is when you force someone to do something they do not want to, and it can cause stress or then leads to suicide in some cases. In Schoolyard Bullies by Stephanie Simon, prosecutor James Backstrom maintains school bullies should go to jail. However, I do not think bullies should go to jail, because there are different degrees of bullying. Some bullies are victims, and sending bullies to jail does not cure them. Stopping bullying is the job of parents and schools. Parents play a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the warning signs that the child is involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying others, or witnessing bullying. Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should talk to their children if they display any sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times children won t ask for help, so it is important to know what to look for. If the child is at immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to get help right away. Just sending the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a good way to correct children s behaviors. I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly big stick, says Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. You can get the same payoff with a lot less drastic measures (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change their mind, even though their behavior will be ... The stories that are contained in the four Gospels are those that share Christ s doctrine as well as the history of the Savior. However, to say that the Gospel stories and doctrine cannot be applied to the modern reader would be incorrect. One of these Gospels, John, contains a particularly important message for both the historical and modern reader. In John 10, a variety of integral stories and important doctrine is outlined. In John 10, both the story of the Good Shepherd and Christ s interactions with the Jewish leaders give insight to the historical reference and meaning of the doctrine in a modern setting. John 10 is a very interesting and important block of scripture. It covers the idea of Christ as the Good Shepherd. He states in John 10:11, I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. This presents one of the main ideas of John 10, which is that Christ is the leader of His sheep, which are His people. He declares that the good shepherd will die for his flock, which is exactly what Christ does. He also defends his statements from the Jewish leaders, as they want to stone him for uttering such blasphemy , according to Blair G. VanDyke. • 14. Use Of Syntax And Imagery In Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer, wrote many short stories in his lifetime. One of those stories is The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, a person murders an old man because of his eye. Poe has also written Hop Frog, where a king s jester murders the king and his seven ministers as revenge for striking his friend. In both stories, Poe uses narrative elements to develop a narrative point of view. He develops a third person objective point of view in Hop Frog, and develops a first person point of view in The Tell Tale Heart. Poe uses syntax and imagery to develop a point of view in both stories, but uses repetition and metaphors for one story and allusions and sarcasm for the other. Syntax and imagery help develop a point of view in both The Tell Tale Heart and Hop Frog. In The Tell Tale Heart, the story is mostly in a first person point of view. A narrator is recounting his murder of an old man. Since the story is in a first person point of view, readers can see the narrator s personal thoughts and opinions. Syntax helps characterize the narrator and show his personality. The mass number of an atom is defined by the sum of the protons and neutrons; the atomic number of an atom is defined by the number of protons only. Atoms which have different mass numbers but have the same atomic number are referred as isotopes, for example carbon 12, 13, and 14.Nucleus with special numbers of the neutron and protons are referred as nuclides. Radio nuclides are usually unstable and it continuously emits particles as well as emits the electromagnetic radiation. There are three types of radioactive decay; alpha, beta and gamma radiation. The alpha radiation includes a stream of the Helium 4nuclei; beta radiation has higher speed electrons when emitting from unstable nucleus and normally has a negative charge(positron is the opposite side of the beta decay); gamma radiation has not much altering ability on the mass on either atomic or mass number thus it ... Factors Determining The Form Of Legal Business Entity Factors Considered In Deciding the Form of Legal Business Entity When starting a new business, it is very important to decide the form of legal entity which may be appropriate based on a number of factors. The legal entity can be sole proprietorship, partnerships (general and limited liability partnerships), limited liability companies, or corporations. One of the most important factors to consider when deciding the appropriate form of legal business entity is complexity. If one has limited capital and wishes to start a simple business unit, then sole proprietorship is the most appropriate. The second factor is the need for protection from the risk of liabilities. If the new business operates in a volatile industry where it is possible to experience huge financial losses, then a limited liability company or partnership can be considered appropriate. The ease of formation is another factor. It is easy to form a sole proprietorship as opposed to other forms of businesses. The issue of taxation may also influence the form of business entity that a person or group of people may choose. The aim is always to minimize tax as much as possible. Vietnam gave her a new strength, the ability to choose for herself where she would go and who she would become. Anne figuratively became a different person... there was a new confidence in her voice, a new authority in the way she carried herself . As Vietnam empowered Mary Anne and gave her a new personality the men could not understand and they began to see an inequity in Mary Anne, but in a true war story there is no morality. Mary Anne was just doing what the men have always done. She stopped taking baths, and spent more of her time hunting and exploring Vietnam with the Greenies. Sometimes she would get so cut up with the forest and sleep out, leaving Mark Fossie hopeless. Mark was able to notice the changes occurring in Mary Anne, this suddenly made him paranoid and extremely disturbed. Because Mark was not affected by the land like Anne was, he was unable to relate to Anne anymore because his way of viewing things, his perception and reality, is no longer ... By 1830 slavery was primarily located in the South. In the lower South the majority of slaves lived and worked on cotton plantations. Slaves of the South fueled an economic engine based on cotton. Seventy five percent of Southern whites did not own slaves. Life on the fields meant working sunup to sundown and worked six days a week. Their behavior and movement was restricted. Slaves lived in small shacks with a dirt floor and little or no furniture. Life on large plantations with a cruel overseer was oftentimes the worst. If slaves had complains that they were being unfairly treated, slaveholders would most often be very protective of their property and would release the overseer. Adult male slaves were used to tend the fields, pastures, and gardens. When I first made the plan, it was to run every morning at 11am and then again at 9pm, and any other exercise that happened to cross my way that day I would also include. However, by then end of my trip I found my plan had changed much from what it started as out. To help with the work of accomplishing this goal, I used two useful tools I had that I thought would make it easier. I made my goal so that it would provide some challenge as I would have to go run twice every day, which would be good exercise and it did turn out to be, so I would say that I did set a good performance goal. The barriers that would prevent me from reaching my goal is laziness, having a poor diet, or doing something that could prevent me from running, but more on that later. I overcame the barriers by having my roommates and my parents always behind me motivating me to go and also coming with me. Come Visit South Africa South Africa, which is the southernmost country on the African continent, is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on its west coast and by the Indian Ocean on both south and east coasts. It is renowned for its varied geography, extreme natural beauty, and cultural diversity. All of those attributes make it a desirable destination for travelers. Its neighbors are Namibia in the northwest, Zimbabwe and Botswana in the north, and Mozambique and Swaziland in the northeast. The kingdom of Lesotho forms an enclave within the southeast part of South Africa, which occupies an area nearly three times that of California. To give a bit of background the San people were the first settlers in South Africa; the Khoikhoi and Bantu speaking tribes followed. The Dutch East India Company landed the first European settlers on the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, starting a colony that by the end of the 18th century numbered only about 15,000. Known as Boers or Afrikaners, and speaking a Dutch dialect known as Afrikaans, the settlers as early as 1795 tried to establish an independent republic. After occupying the Cape Colony in that year, Britain took permanent possession in 1815 at the end of the Napoleonic Wars, bringing in 5,000 settlers. Anglicization of government and the freeing of slaves in 1833 drove about 12,000 of what were called Afrikaners to make the great trek north and east into African tribal territory, where they established the republics of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. • 40. Appearance Vs Reality Research Paper Reality? What Reality? Meditation can be a double edged tool. It can reveal the nature of actual reality, but in doing so it also reveals many other states of consciousness that we experience as real but are not usually aware of their true nature, depending on our present level of awareness. So, while meditation can show us true reality, in the process we may realize that we have been living in a conceptual representation of reality for perhaps years or even a whole lifetime. Many of those who pursue meditation as a means of achieving self realization or self awareness reach a point where they suddenly begin to perceive on an intuitive level, a truth that is fundamental to their well being and sense of self and security, at which point some choose to continue and some choose to discontinue the journey of meditation. In fact, this is a well known obstacle in meditation that has to do with the true nature of reality and our perception or lack of perception of what is real. Who Or What Is Aware Suppose we go on an intellectual version of an actual meditation experience. We are sitting in a quiet room surrounded by the familiar objects of our life.
