U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East
For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the
forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two
World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the
response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention
of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration
allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy
was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within
the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat
lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11
attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular
cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons.
And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to
emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with
the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? The policies carried out by the United States
consisted of establishing order and democracy in a state while also preventing any

Layers Of Influence Analysis
Much of the human experience is shrouded in mystery, but that has not dissuaded numerous historians
and anthropologists from attempting to unravel the finer elements of culture. One such focus has been
the items human beings have been consuming since the beginning of organized society. This focus is
responsible for one of the most interesting and compelling exhibits ever put together by the Museum
of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia s Vancouver Campus. This exhibit,
appropriately entitled Layers of Influence, has been appearing for some time and is currently
positioned as a popular attraction. In this paper, I plan to explore the purpose of this exhibit and
discuss the role that clothing and other textiles have ultimately ... Show more content on

Although clothing, fibers, and textiles are not always universally recognized as art in the same vein as
painted or sculpted works, there is a great deal of historical value to them all the same, justifying the
existence of the exhibit in the first place. Further more, the background in art appreciation allows for
one to recognize the merit to the clothing beyond the strictly narrow interpretation of cloth as a tool
for survival or even just engagement within a given community. In the specific pattern of organization,
it is clear that the curator understood this with her exhaustive explanation, providing the justification
and relevance of the particular

Rod Stinguard
This viral vector engineered by my former supervisor, Dr. Rod Stinguard, will indeed seal his personal
legacy, Surina continued. Overnight, he has propelled his name to the top of the list of contenders for
the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Using his formidable connections with the World Governing Body,
Stinguard readily gained their approval to distribute the viral vector globally. However, since they
only tested twenty healthy subjects with a short follow up, they could have missed the possibility of
mutations on a statistical basis. For this reason, they are phasing in the launch starting in Africa and
later in other countries. Stinguard rushed this viral vector s development, and it is far from being ready

whether to have it. I cannot fathom why Stinguard has chosen to disregard any words of warning!
Unfortunately, there are many instances in human history where people have looked the other way,
Liam said, bleakly. There are several reasons leading people to ignore uncomfortable truths. Either it
may not affect them yet, or they don t want to acknowledge all the darkness in the human heart. In my
experience, looking the other way, usually leads to even greater trouble in the end. Only one of the
numerous examples to illustrate this is the build up to the atrocities in Nazi Germany. It began with the
persecution of the disabled, Roma gypsies, Catholic priests, as well as Jehovah s Witnesses and later
spread to the Jews. Furthermore, physicians such as Dr. Josef Mengele and Dr. Eduard Wirths
conducted cruel human experiments in the concentration camps. For instance, one study involved
deliberately inflicting wounds on the prisoners to assess antimicrobial efficacy. Nonetheless, the world
remained silent until World War II erupted in 1939. Another example

Lady With Lapdog By Anton Chekhov
Bad Romance
As Haddaway once said, what is love? Baby, don t hurt me, don t hurt me no more. Everyone has a
different perspective of what love really is. People can fall in love or believe they are in love because
of physical attraction. Some may believe that lust can become into something more. In the short story,
Lady with Lapdog by Anton Chekhov translated by David Magarshack, the main protagonist Gurov is
married with a twelve year old daughter and two sons. He is not extremely happy with his family life
so he likes to have small affairs to get away from it. As the plot develops he meets a girl named Anna,
who he falls head over heels for, making the womanizer, fall in love. Even though what the did is
immoral, it can be a good thing for the pair. They may have gotten out a situation that was not making
them happy. Love can control the way people dictate their lives. Is it for the good of the people? Is it
just some emotion that causes mischief? As seen in Lady with Lapdog, love is a powerful emotion that
can alter people s motives as well as can change other s lives in an instant. Although love is about
sacrifice for the significant other, it can also a very selfish emotion. During the story the when Gurov
and Anna are in their affair she starts to complain and he, could not help feeling bored as he listened to
her...she buried her face on his chest and clung close to him, (Chekhov 269), showing that he is not

Persuasive Speech For Girls Education
Imagine living in a world where 65 million girls do not have the basic education that they deserve.
Well, believe it or not, in 2003, that was our world (rferl.org). The good news is that more and more
people are joining in to help this problem. Our ex First Lady, Michelle Obama, British actress, Emma
Watson, and President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, are all helping to change all of this. They all have
sacrificed their time and energy for girls education. Michelle Obama, has traveled all over Africa to
speak about education and has created a campaign called Let Girls Learn. Emma Watson, has recently
become a UN Women Goodwill ambassador. And Michelle Bachelet the executive director of the UN

Overview of Insider Trading
Introduction On June 4, 2003, the Securities Exchange Commission announced that it was pursuing
charges against investor Martha Stewart and stock broker Peter Bacanovic for securities fraud. The
fraud occurred on December 27, 2001 when Stewart sold stock in ImClone Systems, after receiving an
unlawful tip from Bacanovic, who at the time was working for Merrill Lynch. The SEC also accused
the two of attempting to cover up the insider actions, and of making false statements regarding the
ImClone trades to SEC investigators (SEC, 2003). Stephen Cutler, the SEC director of enforcement
said in the SEC s press release about the charges that It is fundamentally unfair for someone to have
an edge on the market just because she has a stockbroker who is willing to break the rules and give her
an illegal tip. It s worse still when the individual engaging in the insider trading is the Chairman and
CEO of a public company. This statement and the philosophy behind it is a central part in the debate
about the merits, not so much about the case against Stewart but against the prosecution of Stewart.
The SEC sought redress not only in the form of monetary penalties and prison time, but it also sought
to have Stewart removed from a position as officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (SEC,
2003). The Case ImClone was a relatively small pharmaceutical firm. At the time of the offense,
ImClone was awaiting a decision from the Food and Drug Administration regarding the status of

The Sunni-Shia Conflict
The historic background of the Sunni Shia lies in the schism that occurred when the Islamic prophet
Mohammed died in the 632, leading to a dispute over succession to Mohammed as a caliph of the
Islamic community spread across various parts of the world, which led to the battel of Safin. The
dispute intensified greatly after the battle of Karbala, in which Hussein ibn ail and his household were
killed by the ruling Umayyad caliph Yazidi, and the outcry for revenge divided the early Islamic
community. Today, there are differences in religious practice, traditions, and customs, often related to
jurisprudence. Although all Muslims groups consider the Quran to be divine, Sunni and Shia have
different opinions on hadith.
Over the years, Sunni relations have been marked by both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hassan is believed to have been poised in 680 by muawiyah, the first caliph of the Sunni Umayyad
dynasty, while Hussein was killed on the battlefield by the Umayyad s in 691.these events gave rise to
the Shia concept of martyrdom and the rituals of grieving.
Shia Islam: Shia Islam encompasses most Muslims who are not counted the Sunni. The division
between Sunni and Shia, dates to the death of the prophet Mohammed when his followers were faced
with the decision of who would be his successors as the leader of Islam s. Shiites are those followed
Ali, the closest relatives of Mohammed, as Muhammad s successor. Today there are approximately
120 million Shiite Muslims in the world.
The Shia consists of one major of thought known as the jafaryia or the Twelver s , and a few minor
schools of thought, as the Seveners or the fivers . These names all refers to the number of imams they
recognize after the death of Mohammed. The term Shia is usually meant to be synonymous with the

both realty and personality. So ReaLand CPA s could better serve this client, I, Bobbi Paternico was
tasked with researching the legal and tax options available to the client, based upon the entity utilized
for the purchase and the method of purchase. ANALYSIS: The type of business entity that Ms.
Growne selects can have both legal and tax implications. Having said this, there are some tax and
legal considerations to examine regardless of the type of purchasing entity. Specifically, one of the
first decisions that Ms. Growne should make, is whether she wants to acquire the assets of the tavern

The statement of reserves should be reviewed, since the acquisition of the tavern, through the purchase
of the seller s interest, results in the buyer, Ms. Growne accepting both known and unknown liabilities
of the business prior to her ownership. In addition, by reviewing the financial statements to look at the
net operating gain or loss, Ms. Growne can determine if there is a loss she can offset against her other
sources of income. For some individuals, the idea of being able to offset other income with these
losses incurred prior to ownership is appealing, due to the tax benefit that may result. However, if the
buyer does not have significate income to be offset or is not in a higher tax brackets, this benefit of the
acquisition through interest becomes less attractive. In addition, if the sellers basis in the assets are
significantly less than the assets fair market value, the buyer is likely to incur greater gains on the
assets in the future, resulting in a higher taxable income and leading to negative tax implication. In
contrast, if the assets of the business were purchased, the buyer would not be susceptible to prior
liabilities and the seller must examine their basis for each asset, compare it with the assets current
market value, and incur any applicable gains or losses, intern shifting the tax consequences of an

the elderly in and out of bed, to and from the restroom, to get them dressed and to get them to and
from the cafeteria for lunch. That sounded simple enough so we all got started helping the residents
and some of the CNA s who worked there had a completely different way of doing things, not the

Foreign Aid Effects
The act of cutting spending from other sectors could potentially have a negative impact on the national
security of the United States. One of the most important sectors outside of defense spending related to
boosting the strength of national security is foreign aid. Foreign aid has been used as a tool by the
United States to stabilize weak states and build alliances with states that could potentially become
dangerous adversaries in the future. One of the most significant historic examples of foreign aid was
the Marshall Plan in the aftermath of World War II, a conflict in which much of Europe had been
decimated by the violence of the war and was unable to rebuild without outside aid (Sarkesian 12).

term hostility existing in Spain between the conservative and liberal political parties in Spain. The
conservative party is the more close minded Spaniards while the liberal party is more open minded
Spaniards. Spain is split roughly 50:50 between the two parties. The split is one of the most critical
aspects in the Spanish history. If one does not know about the Two Spains, one does not know the full

Essay on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Abstract
The wrist is surrounded by a band of fibrous tissue, which normally functions as a support for the
joint. The tight space between this fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel (The
Stay Well Company, 1999). The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations
from the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the hand. Any condition that causes swelling or a change
in position of the tissue within the carpal tunnel can squeeze and irritate the median nerve, which
causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers, a condition known as
carpal tunnel syndrome (Nidus Information Systems, 2001). All people ... Show more content on

A very strong ligament called the transverse carpal ligament connects the arch of bones, which makes
a complete tunnel . The transverse carpal ligament is a heavy band of fibers which runs between the

which contains the carpal tunnel. These bones and this ligament form a circle

from which tendons and major nerves travel. This complete circle is called the Carpal Tunnel, hence
the name of this disease Carpal Tunnel Syndrome . Nine tiny but tough tendons, each in its lubricating
lining or sheath, slide back and forth through the tunnel as the muscles of the hand and fingers move.
These tendons are called the Flexor tendons; these tendons are the structures that let you bend your
fingers, or flex, your fingers. They are long smooth cords that arise in the muscles of the forearm and
end on the fingers. They work like a bicycle brake cable to flex your fingers, sliding in and out as the
fingers bend and straighten. The median nerve is the only nerve that travels through the tunnel along
with the tendons. This soft tissue carries sensations from part of the hand to the central nervous system
(The Stay Well Company,1999).

we will be focusing on the dehumanisation, demoralisation and disillusionment of war that leads to the

One of the paramount effects of war on young people is the dehumanization of humanity.
Dehumanization is the psychological occurrence of demonizing the enemy or one self, manufacture
them to appear less than human and therefore not worthy of humane behaviour (Maiese, 2003).

The topic of my dissertation is about the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in
developing countries. With the trend of economic integration, FDI has been considered as an
important part of boosting the economic development within any country around the world. Foreign
direct investments differ entirely from indirect investments such as portfolio management. The direct
way of investing in a foreign country can be conducted in a number of ways either by establishing

This study is focused on the two aspects: market seeking FDI and resource seeking FDI. These two
aspects which influence the determination of FDI can be denominated by some numerical variables. In
terms of market seeking, GDP and the rate of inflation can be used to measure the market size and
market growth respectively. The sum of exports and imports of goods and services indicates the
openness of an economy, which also means the availability of access to regional and global markets.
On the other hand, raw materials and human capital are the key elements for those resource seeking
enterprises. Thus, labour cost per worker in logs denotes human capital. With all the variables above, a

FDI has grown strongly with the rapid speed of globalization. There are a few theories which attempt
to explain the motives for and determinants of it. The early theory arose on the basis of international
business. Another theory that is well accepted is called New Economic Geography. This study is based
on the theory derived from the eclectic paradigm of Dunning. Dunning (1977) introduced three types
of advantages in terms of determining the location of FDI, which are owner specific advantage,
location specific advantage and internalization specific advantage.

Insurance Coverage And Affordable Care Act

Moral Education In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee touches on many important sensitive topics such as racism,
rape, and moral education. The children in the story learn and develop after experiencing the trial of
Tom Robinson. They see the way people treat African Americans and are disgusted by it. They realize
that a lot of the people in their town are racist bigots while others are actually kind and innocent.
People are blind to this until their eyes are opened from an experience. In the beginning of the story,
Scout is close minded and naive to the real world around her. She never thinks about how other people
are feeling or thinking. For example, Walter Cunningham accidentally embarrassed Scout in class
about not having enough money to buy lunch. So, to get back at him, at recess, she attacked Walter
and shoved his nose into the ground.. Scout s brother, Jem, invites Walter over for lunch as a way to
apologize for Scout s actions. Unexpectedly, Walter pours syrup all over his ner plate of food. I asked
what in the sam hill he was doing... Atticus shook his head at me again. Buts he s gone and drowned
his dinner in syrup. (24). Scout does not think about how that would make him feel or how other
people may like their food in other ways than she does. Another example is when Scout spent the
summer making up games and joking about Boo Radley. She had never met him before and didn t
even know what he is like. Yet she felt no remorse by making fun of him. How do you know a match
don t hurt him Turtles can t feel stupid said Jem. (14). In this quote they are referring to Boo Radley as
a turtle. Almost like he isn t a person at all. But just a slow, quiet animal. Atticus, her father, is a big
influence in Scout s perception of the world. But she and Jem are awfully unappreciative of him. Jem
was football crazy. Atticus was never too tired to play keep away, but when Jem wanted to tackle him
Atticus would say, I m too old for that, son. (118). Jem would complain about how he couldn t play
with him and Scout doesnt think of him as courageous. That is why when they saw him shoot the
rabid dog, they had more true respect for him. As young oblivious kids, they wouldn t think that
courage is anything else but

The Bicycles Changed America Essay
The Bicycles Changed America
The great changes in American society that came with the introduction bicycle in the late 19th century
are often overshadowed by the influence of the automobile in the following decades. Today, bicycles
are often seen as an alternative mode of transportation a cleaner and more environmentally conscious
form of travel. Because of this, it may be difficult to realize the incredible modernizing effects that
bicycles had on American society when they were first introduced. Manufacturing and marketing
techniques introduced by the bicycle industry were massive steps towards modern industrial practices.
In addition, by making individual travel available to many people for the first time, bicycles changed

the future possibilities of bicycles: when roads are dry and firm it runs on a plain at the rate of 8 to 9

(Smith, 1972, pp 4)
The next major development came with the acquisition of pedals. In 1855, the first bicycle with
pedals, the velocipede, was invented and became briefly popular when it was brought to the United
States. Because of the ride provided by its iron tires and wooden frame, the velocipede became known
as the Boneshaker. The excitement around the velocipede died off within a few years, however, as it
proved to be difficult to ride, expensive, and dangerous.
During the second half of the 19th century, most of the major improvements were made that allowed
for the invention of modern bicycles. An iron frame rather than a wooden one, rubber tires (solid
rubber, however), rubber coated pedals and steel rims were all developed during this time. Although
the new bicycles, known as Ordinaries, had one wheel much larger than the other, were difficult to
mount and dismount, had no brakes, and were expensive, they became much more popular than any of
the previous ancestral bicycles. They were promoted on the basis that they provided exercise to the
riders, and that they had

Cultural Imperialism In America
America has always been imperialistic. The existence of an imperialist America is a fact that cannot be

prompted the government to establish a plan to merge the remaining overseas territories: the
Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Also, America has been in the process of converting their
domestic industries into a global empire, which has the potential to capture the world market, acquire
natural resources from foreign sources, and sell its surplus industrial agriculture. Overall, America is

Indigenous Coping Mechanism for Combating Disaster in Bangladesh Abstract: The study has been
conducted based on broad objective of exploring indigenous coping mechanisms for combating
disaster at Koyra upazila of Khulna and Patharghata upazila of Barguna district in Bangladesh. For
attaining broad objective the study focuses some important objectives that include revealing
indigenous perception about disaster, exploring indigenous coping mechanisms, revealing
Governmental and NGOs mechanisms and drawing some suggestions for improving the coping
system with disaster. Qualitative research method has been employed in this study. Through purposive
sampling 10 respondents have been selected for the study. The findings of the study show that most of
the respondents are not well educated and living in house with less security. Almost every year
disaster like flood, river bank erosion, cyclone and tidal surge hit in study areas. Community people
adopt different indigenous mechanisms for combating disastrous impact. The study indicates that
people adopt these mechanisms before and after disaster. They take structural ( repairing embankment,
raising homestead platform, construction of road etcetera) and nonstructural (making people aware,
tying houses with strong trees, planting disaster resilient trees, taking shelter in cyclone center during
disaster, preserving food for future and dissemination of news about imminent disaster etcetera). The

What Intermolecular Forces Explain Why Propionic Acid Has...
Intermolecular forces explain why propionic acid has the highest boiling point because, the
relationship between boiling points and intermolecular forces is directly proportional. The stronger the
intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. The force of attraction between molecules is based
on the polarity of the molecule. Therefore, as bonds increase in polarity, intermolecular forces become
stronger.
There are four main types of intermolecular forces, the strongest force, first place, is ionic bonds,
second place hydrogen bond interactions, third place dipole interactions, last place London dispersion/
Van der Waals interactions. Ionic forces occur when a complete transfer of electrons takes place when
one interacting atom is much more electronegative than the other, causing atoms and molecules to take
on charges. Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is bonded to a very electro negative
atom, specifically a nitrogen, oxygen or, fluorine atom. The third strongest is dipole interactions which
is a sharing of electrons also known as covalent bonding. Finally, London dispersion/ Van der ... Show

Ductus Deferens Research Paper
Ductus deferens
The ductus deferens (otherwise known as the vas deferens) is a structure found in the male
reproductive system. There are two ductus deferens and they are identical in their structure and
function. The primary function of the ductus deferens is to store and transport sperm to the ejaculatory
duct, connecting the epididymis, merging into the urethra pushing it forward and allowing the sperm
to exit the body. The ductus deferens are designed for this function, characterised by thick muscular
walls, which perform peristalsis. The inside wall consists of a moist folded layer of mucous

The skin of the scrotum becomes wrinkled due to the underlying dartos muscle. The testes must be
kept at temperature that is lower than 3oC, so that spermatogenesis can occur. The scrotum uses a
muscle (the cremaster muscle) to achieve this. When the cremaster muscle shrinks, the testes move
closer to the scrotum, and this increases the temperature of them. They can also be cooled down by
dilating and moving away from the testes, dropping them in temperature. The testes receive their
blood flow from the anterior and posterior scrotal artery. The venous blood flows through the
testicular veins and then into the vena cava. Another function of the testes is to protect the testes from
injury, hence why one testis hangs lower than the other, to avoid compression in the event of impact.
Testes (Male gonads)
The testes are two ovular organs found in the male reproductive system. They are held in place by a
spermatic cord, which is a collection of vessels, nerves and ducts that run from more than one part of
the testes. The testes function to create the hormone testosterone; a primary male sex hormone which
generates the production of sperm. The seminiferous tubules which are located in the testes are
responsible for the production of sperm cells, and the sperm made in this process line the tubules until
they reach maturity and are released into the lumen of the seminiferous tubule.

Queen Elizabeth 1 Research Paper
The Elizabethan Era has become known as the Golden Age of England. Queen Elizabeth I, provided a
peace that England had been deprived of for years, she adopted a policy of religious settlement, and
encouraged the arts and exploration of new worlds and trade routes. England became a prosperous
nation. This was an extraordinary achievement in a patriarchal society, where women were seen as
feeble and weak. Historians views on the importance of Elizabeth to these advances differ. To some,
she is Good Queen Bess, the most successful English monarch. Others, however, take a more critical
view. Princess Elizabeth was born in 1533 to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Henry had previously

E. Neale suggested Elizabeth set out to re establish the church to be a Catholic Church without a Pope.
However, Elizabeth had to compromise due to pressures from a Puritans group led by Sir Francis
Kolly, which make up a quarter of the Parliament and wanted a more Calvinist style Church. (Lizzy,
2008) Haigh disagrees stating that Protestantism was clearly always going to be the focus in the
English Church. In 1559 Elizabeth implemented the religious settlement which consisted of the Acts
of Supremacy and Uniformity for the Church of England. Elizabeth was to be the Supreme Governor
of the Church and papal supremacy was revoked. All clergy were to take an oath to use a new Prayer
book and observe Royal supremacy. Neale also states that Elizabeth adopted this policy in order to
reach the Treaty with France over Calais. However, Christopher Haigh disagrees with Neale and
asserts that Elizabeth delayed peace negotiations insisting on them returning Calais, and that they is no
connection between her religious settlement and her negotiations with France. Haigh also points out
that only 19 Puritans had been elected to Parliament and that did not represent a well organised group.
Elizabeth expected that everyone attend Church on Sundays and Holy days. Elizabeth hoped that this
compromise would appeal to both Catholics and Protestants and the English church would become
popular with her people. (Geocities,

Rap American Culture
Rap music has taken its shape over the last six decades, starting in the 60s and still modernizing today.
Over the last fifty years a new era has developed in American culture. This era is modern rap. Rap has
taken over modern culture as a popular form of music for many different age groups. The rap industry
has been booming for the past three decades. With what I have said, this leads me to my research
question. How has modern rap come to be in American culture? Rap is actually a very old term dating
back to 15th century Europe. The term rap originally meant to strike or hit something. ( Cole Mize

be used in the black community as a slang word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Female rappers also play a role in rap. From the early groups of Salt n Pepa to the new sensation Iggy
Iselias. These female artists just add more diversity to the genre. Rap is still diverse as ever. With a
new type of lesser known rap has begun to emerge. This style being Gospel or Christian rap. Some of
the best known Christian rap artist being Lecrae and tobyMac. ( Wikipedia ) I completely agree that
these are the two main artists since they have been very prominent for a while. Andy Mineo has
become popular and many people leave him out of the conversation. This genre of rap is so different
from all other forms of rap. It is used as a way of expressing protestant traditions. ( Wikipedia )
Christian rap has grown popular enough to get its own categories at Christian Award shows such as,
GMA Dove Awards and Stellar Awards. ( Wikipedia ) However, Christian rap does not have as diverse
of an audience as the mainstream rap audience. Christian rap typically is followed by the white church
going population. So, why exactly is learning about the history of rap important? It is important
because it has become such a large part of our modern culture. Learning more about it is necessary to
further understand why it is such a large part of our society. Some people may disapprove of what rap
has come to be due to its current negative connotation.

Each period style, for instance, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernism, Post modernism has certain
defining characteristics. Describe a period of your choice and define its traits.
Modernism is a period style which has many defining characterisitcs which will be talked about
throughout the course of this essay. The birth of Modernism ran between the 18th and 19th century
around the time of the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution caused very quick changes in
technology, manufacturing and transportation as well as other aspects.
These all had a massive affect on the social, economic and cultural conditions of life in Western

Other arts such as literature and music had massively changed, shaping the music we listen to and the
books we read to this day. The modernist period saw many composers start to experiment with their
music which was a change from the romantic period. The romantic period was very traditional but in
the early 20th century, composers had started to use new melodies and harmonies that were considered
unusual at the time.
One of the most famous musicians to thrive in the modernist period was the American composer
Aaron Copland. Some of his most famous work would be his compositions for the films Of Mice and
Men and Our Town . He very much went with the fast changing times that were happening around
him.
In his growth as a composer Copland mirrored the important trends of his time. After his return from

the access to the Dnieper was completed by a radical change during the Great Patriotic War. The battle
for the Dnieper (1943) overturned the enemy s calculations for conducting a protracted war. July 25,
1943, the fascist regime in Italy collapsed, on September 3, she concluded a truce with the Allies. The
withdrawal of Italy from the war marked the beginning of the disintegration of the fascist bloc.
October 13 Italy declared war on Germany. German fascist troops occupied its territory. In September,
the Allies landed in Italy, but could not break the defense of the German troops and in December
suspended active operations. In the Pacific and in Asia, Japan sought to retain the territories captured
in 1941 1942, without weakening the groupings at the borders of the USSR. The Allies, having begun
the offensive in the fall of 1942 in the Pacific Ocean, seized the island of Guadalcanal (February
1943), landed on New Guinea, liberated the Aleutian Islands. In April May 1945, the Soviet Armed
Forces defeated the last groupings of German fascist

Urban Ethnographic Research
Thesis: The study of urban politics using traditional definitions of urban, especially sociological
research inadequately defines or captures the daily activities of localities. There is a missing link
between community power and local economy in the literature. To bridge the gap Molotoch
demonstrates that the underlying interest of local politics is growth. Local power centers around
landed elite who promote and compete against other localities for resources in order to turn a locality
into a growth machine. Growth is measured by the increase in population.
Argument: Cities are controlled by a coalition of elite land based interests whose aim is to increase the
profit potential of their land and wealth. Well to due individuals have ... Show more content on

Growth costs more money in taxes and costs more for government services. Growth puts more stain
on the majority of the population in health and quality of life, such as increase pollution, traffic, and
strain on public works, while distributing the benefits to a small segment of the community. Jobs are
not created by growth, but are simply redistributed from and among other localities. Additionally, the
fastest growing metropolitan areas have the most unemployment. This happens since labor is extracted
from a national labor pool, and growing localities attract the unemployed who are seeking work from
other localities. For labor, It is more beneficial for workers to be part of a national movement to
promote full employment, rather than support the local growth machine. Some areas that are not
overpopulated have clean environments, sustainable infrastructure, and aesthetic landscapes Yet,
successful competition by urban localities only help to promote depopulation, ghost towns, and
depletion or extraction of resources in and from localities. Molotch highlights that depopulation of an
area, thus declining growth, is due to political decisions in other localities to promote

The Physics Of Magnetic Field
When a wire with current flowing through it, is placed in a magnetic field a force is placed on the
wire: this is the motor principle and this is the principle behind the loud speaker. Hello, My name is
Michael Trevorrow and you will be learning about the loud speaker and electromagnetism.
But first, if you want to understand the loud speaker you have to understand electromagnetism. Well
electromagnetism is simply the phenomenon of the interaction of electric currents or fields and
magnetic fields . This will become clearer later. All right the loud speaker we all know what they look
like, but we don t know how they work. When things shake or vibrate, they produce a sound. If a coil
is wrapped around a magnet, the coil now becomes an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The formula for a solenoid is B=u0nl, where n is the number of coils and I is the current. Being able to
show the strength, will show the loudness because the current flow alters the frequency and altering
the current flow will make the solenoid field larger.
Coils and changing direction
A conductor, copper, is tightly wrapped around a magnet to make a magnetic field. But how does this
create sound? The coil has a current flowing through it the coil moves and the polar orientation
reverses. When this is reversed it allows the magnetic forces between the coil and this allows the coil
to move up and down the magnet, which creates sound. The magnetic field can be increased by
putting more coils around the magnetic which leads to larger sound.
Current
Current is the driving force which causes the diaphragm acceleration. Current is a flow of electricity
which results from the ordered directional movement of electrically charged particles. In simple terms
current is the flow of electricity throughout the coil. Current is how we can change the frequency or
sound pitch of the speaker, by altering voltage it will change the current. Now we know what happens
inside a speaker, lets have a look at the magnets involved. Electromagnet (coil

Collusion In Baseball
What is it
Collusion is a business term that means owners of different companies working together and taking
certain steps to keep the salaries of workers low to make sure they (the owners) make more money. In
baseball, collusion includes owners working with each other to make sure that competitive bidding or
players jointly negotiating with the owners does not happen. There have been at least eight different
allegations of collusion being put together.
How it started
Collusion in baseball has been referred in the past as a gentleman s agreement . At the end of the
baseball season in 1918, in an effort to keep the player salaries low, the owners released all players
from the contracts (especially the non guaranteed contracts). There was ... Show more content on

These were called new look free agents. One of these players was Kirk Gibson, who signed with the
Dodgers for three years, 4.5 million dollars.
Collusion Allegation 2
Collusion Allegation 2 Outcome
In late 1989, arbitrator George Nicolau led proceedings over Collusion 2. He would later find in favor
of the players. Nicolau found that the damages were over 35 million dollars worth.
Collusion Allegation 3
After the first rulings in the first two collusion cases, the owners decided it was time to change the
way they went about conspiring with one another. It was then that they put together what they called
an information bank to pass information back and forth to one another about the offers that were being
made to certain players. The MLBPA filed yet another grievance in early 1988.
Collusion Allegation 3 Outcome
Collusion 3 damages were well over sixty million dollars. Owners would also have to make good on
losses on multi year contracts and any bonuses that players lost out on.

American Bison Research Paper
American bison (Bison bison) have lived for thousands of years, but are now going extinct due to
buffalo hunting. Bisons live in America, and their habitats are mostly river valleys, prairies and grassy
plains. Bisons are Herbivores, their diets consisting mainly of grasses, weeds, and other leafy plants.
Their predators are gray wolves, cougars, and bears. There is one kind of species of American bison,
but American bison ancestors can be traced to Southern Asia thousands of years ago. Also, the history
of bison and Native Americans are intertwined. Female bison breed when they are two years old, and
give birth to their first calves when they are three years old. Cows can be 20 25 years old, giving birth
to a calf each year under the right conditions. The average gestation period of a bison is 283 days. A
baby bison is called a red dog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used his position as U.S. president to prioritize conservation. Wind Cave National Park s herd
helped revive bison populations around the country. Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the
United States where bison have continuously lived since prehistoric times. Interior conservation has
been the primary national conservation steward of the bison. The buffalo and the bison are the same
kind of animal, but a different species. The American bison are native to North and South America and
Europe, while the other two buffalo species reside in Africa and Asia.
Bison are the largest animal in North America, adults weighing an average of 1,400 lbs. Don t take
bison for granted. They may be huge, but they are incredibly fast for their size. They can also live to
be 20 years old, if under good conditions. Bisons wallow in the dirt to help get rid of any irritating
bugs or to help shed. They are also very nearsighted, so keep your distance if you ever encounter

Professional Hockey Players
In the world of professional sports, teams value youth, searching for the next super star. Whether it is
inking the highly coveted free agent, or rebuilding through drafts, General Managers have put a
premium on young athletes, hoping that these youngsters will become the face of the franchise.
Age and experience has seem to taken a back seat for teams. While it is important to develop young
prospects, veteran leadership is often hard to find during games, in the locker room, and particularly
during the playoffs. There are four current players in the National Hockey League who are still
excelling well into their 40 s, contributing on a nightly basis. They are Martin Brodeur, Teemu
Selanne, Jaromir Jagr, and Daniel Alfredsson.
Daniel Alfredsoon, the longtime captain of the Ottawa Senators, now plays for the Detroit Red Wings.
Alfredsson is 41 years old and is currently second on the team this season in goals, having lit the lamp
17 times. With injuries to stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, Alfredsson has been able to step
up and provide the scoring that Detroit desperately sought when its two stars went down with injuries.
He also has 26 assists on the season and is helping the Red Wings make a late season push for the
playoffs.
Alfredsson participated in his 5th Olympic games this February as a member of Sweden s team. He
had four points in five games, registering two goals and two assists to help his country earn a silver
medal after falling to Canada.

Factors Of An Authoritarian Government In The Movie V For...
People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In an
authoritarian government, the citizens listen to their director because they have this fear within them,
that if they do not do what is asked of them they will face consequences. But in reality, the citizens
have power over the government and the government is the one that is living in fear. At any moment
someone can threaten the government. This has been seen through terrorist acts such as 9/11 terror
attacks, and this has been demonstrated in the movie V For Vendetta. In the movie V For Vendetta, V
attempts to bring freedom and justice into a society that has been corrupt from having an authoritarian
government. He threatens the government and tells them a year in advance that he will blow up the
most important building in their city, but the government was not able to stop him. V wanted the city
of London, England to have freedom and rights, free press, and to no longer have to live in fake fear,
all three which are factors of an authoritarian government. In V For Vendetta, it is displayed that the
citizens have no rights and freedoms, the media is controlled by the government, and that the
government creates fear. The citizens or as called in an authoritarian government subjects of London
do not have any rights. They must follow the rules of the government, and if they do not there will be
a corollary. Gordon Deitrich was a homosexual man that practiced the Muslim

  • 2. U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11 attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons. And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? There are several reasons leading people to ignore uncomfortable truths. Either it may not affect them yet, or they don t want to acknowledge all the darkness in the human heart. In my experience, looking the other way, usually leads to even greater trouble in the end. Only one of the numerous examples to illustrate this is the build up to the atrocities in Nazi Germany. It began with the persecution of the disabled, Roma gypsies, Catholic priests, as well as Jehovah s Witnesses and later spread to the Jews. Furthermore, physicians such as Dr. Josef Mengele and Dr. Eduard Wirths conducted cruel human experiments in the concentration camps. • 7. Lady With Lapdog By Anton Chekhov Bad Romance As Haddaway once said, what is love? Baby, don t hurt me, don t hurt me no more. Everyone has a different perspective of what love really is. People can fall in love or believe they are in love because of physical attraction. Some may believe that lust can become into something more. In the short story, Lady with Lapdog by Anton Chekhov translated by David Magarshack, the main protagonist Gurov is married with a twelve year old daughter and two sons. He is not extremely happy with his family life so he likes to have small affairs to get away from it. As the plot develops he meets a girl named Anna, who he falls head over heels for, making the womanizer, fall in love. Even though what the did is immoral, it can be a good thing for the pair. They may have gotten out a situation that was not making them happy. Love can control the way people dictate their lives. Is it for the good of the people? Is it just some emotion that causes mischief? As seen in Lady with Lapdog, love is a powerful emotion that can alter people s motives as well as can change other s lives in an instant. Although love is about sacrifice for the significant other, it can also a very selfish emotion. During the story the when Gurov and Anna are in their affair she starts to complain and he, could not help feeling bored as he listened to her...she buried her face on his chest and clung close to him, (Chekhov 269), showing that he is not willing to listen to her when ... • 9. Overview of Insider Trading Introduction On June 4, 2003, the Securities Exchange Commission announced that it was pursuing charges against investor Martha Stewart and stock broker Peter Bacanovic for securities fraud. The fraud occurred on December 27, 2001 when Stewart sold stock in ImClone Systems, after receiving an unlawful tip from Bacanovic, who at the time was working for Merrill Lynch. The SEC also accused the two of attempting to cover up the insider actions, and of making false statements regarding the ImClone trades to SEC investigators (SEC, 2003). Stephen Cutler, the SEC director of enforcement said in the SEC s press release about the charges that It is fundamentally unfair for someone to have an edge on the market just because she has a stockbroker who is willing to break the rules and give her an illegal tip. It s worse still when the individual engaging in the insider trading is the Chairman and CEO of a public company. This statement and the philosophy behind it is a central part in the debate about the merits, not so much about the case against Stewart but against the prosecution of Stewart. The SEC sought redress not only in the form of monetary penalties and prison time, but it also sought to have Stewart removed from a position as officer of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (SEC, 2003). They realize that a lot of the people in their town are racist bigots while others are actually kind and innocent. People are blind to this until their eyes are opened from an experience. The excitement around the velocipede died off within a few years, however, as it proved to be difficult to ride, expensive, and dangerous. During the second half of the 19th century, most of the major improvements were made that allowed for the invention of modern bicycles. An iron frame rather than a wooden one, rubber tires (solid rubber, however), rubber coated pedals and steel rims were all developed during this time. Although the new bicycles, known as Ordinaries, had one wheel much larger than the other, were difficult to mount and dismount, had no brakes, and were expensive, they became much more popular than any of the previous ancestral bicycles. Intermolecular forces explain why propionic acid has the highest boiling point because, the relationship between boiling points and intermolecular forces is directly proportional. The stronger the intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. The force of attraction between molecules is based on the polarity of the molecule. Therefore, as bonds increase in polarity, intermolecular forces become stronger. There are four main types of intermolecular forces, the strongest force, first place, is ionic bonds, second place hydrogen bond interactions, third place dipole interactions, last place London dispersion/ Van der Waals interactions. Ionic forces occur when a complete transfer of electrons takes place when one interacting atom is much more electronegative than the other, causing atoms and molecules to take on charges. Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is bonded to a very electro negative atom, specifically a nitrogen, oxygen or, fluorine atom. The third strongest is dipole interactions which is a sharing of electrons also known as covalent bonding. Finally, London dispersion/ Van der ... There are two ductus deferens and they are identical in their structure and function. The ductus deferens are designed for this function, characterised by thick muscular walls, which perform peristalsis. When the cremaster muscle shrinks, the testes move closer to the scrotum, and this increases the temperature of them. They can also be cooled down by dilating and moving away from the testes, dropping them in temperature. The testes receive their blood flow from the anterior and posterior scrotal artery. The venous blood flows through the testicular veins and then into the vena cava. The coil has a current flowing through it the coil moves and the polar orientation reverses. When this is reversed it allows the magnetic forces between the coil and this allows the coil to move up and down the magnet, which creates sound. Whether it is inking the highly coveted free agent, or rebuilding through drafts, General Managers have put a premium on young athletes, hoping that these youngsters will become the face of the franchise. Age and experience has seem to taken a back seat for teams. While it is important to develop young prospects, veteran leadership is often hard to find during games, in the locker room, and particularly during the playoffs. There are four current players in the National Hockey League who are still excelling well into their 40 s, contributing on a nightly basis. They are Martin Brodeur, Teemu Selanne, Jaromir Jagr, and Daniel Alfredsson. Daniel Alfredsoon, the longtime captain of the Ottawa Senators, now plays for the Detroit Red Wings. Alfredsson is 41 years old and is currently second on the team this season in goals, having lit the lamp 17 times. With injuries to stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, Alfredsson has been able to step up and provide the scoring that Detroit desperately sought when its two stars went down with injuries. He also has 26 assists on the season and is helping the Red Wings make a late season push for the playoffs. • 50. Factors Of An Authoritarian Government In The Movie V For... People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In an authoritarian government, the citizens listen to their director because they have this fear within them, that if they do not do what is asked of them they will face consequences. But in reality, the citizens have power over the government and the government is the one that is living in fear. At any moment someone can threaten the government. This has been seen through terrorist acts such as 9/11 terror attacks, and this has been demonstrated in the movie V For Vendetta. In the movie V For Vendetta, V attempts to bring freedom and justice into a society that has been corrupt from having an authoritarian government. He threatens the government and tells them a year in advance that he will blow up the most important building in their city, but the government was not able to stop him. V wanted the city of London, England to have freedom and rights, free press, and to no longer have to live in fake fear, all three which are factors of an authoritarian government. In V For Vendetta, it is displayed that the citizens have no rights and freedoms, the media is controlled by the government, and that the government creates fear. The citizens or as called in an authoritarian government subjects of London do not have any rights. They must follow the rules of the government, and if they do not there will be a corollary.
