Natural And Man Made Disasters
This paper will discuss the differences between two different natural and man made disasters. The
disasters that will be discussed are Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Additionally, this paper will look into the specifics of what constitutes a natural and man made
disaster. Specifically, this paper will look into each disaster to include the events surrounding them;
the risks; and the assessments. Furthermore, this paper will look at some of the details of each disaster
and why there was so much devastation. Finally, this paper will look at a few similarities, but mainly
the differences between the two, and how the effects of each still linger today.
Natural Disaster
Natural disasters are anything from floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, or
anything else nature could develop that causes massive amounts of damage, or cause a large losses of
life. Such events are not anything caused because of human beings, but only by the actions of
atmospheric conditions, or due to the changes of continental drifts that these disasters occur.
Technology has come a long way since the early days before the industrial revolution where
predictions can be made and warnings can be issued. This helps reduce the amount of possible loss of
lives that would occur in 21st century. However, that is not what happened during Hurricane Katrina, a
category 5 Hurricane.

Spiritual Deja Vu and Our Soul From Reincarnation
Apparently, there are two worlds that people all live in everyday and their minds are thinking about a
lot constantly no matter what they are doing. So therefore resources came to realize that not only the
minds process things, but also give illusions of maybe what either what is in the past and sometimes
what the future may bring. According to Snider (2007), All around us are evidences of reincarnation:
in the cycles of life, the fate of human beings, pivotal instances that can stop us in our tracks, or just
the whispers of truth that run through us all, (The Journal of Spirituality and Paranormal Studies, The

According to Murphy in the article titled, The experience of Deja Vu in clinical and spiritual term:
Here and Now, There and Then, both dreams and Deja vu experiences happen in non normal states of
consciousness. When someone has a déjà vu, it goes back to long term memories, and the brain goes
to process that we get to relive them. Déjà vu is a memory process which is located in a part of our
brain called the cerebral cortex located in the frontal lobe known as the prefrontal cortex. This part is

American History And Its Impact On The West And Distant...
Unsurprisingly, many historic cultures have not been accurately studied in modernity. Due to personal
biases, incomplete data, or a multitude of other issues, incorrect perceptions about these collapsed
societies remain. However, modern studies are beginning to reveal the inaccuracies of those enduring,
false notions. It is valuable to compare misunderstandings to the historic reality in addition to
discovering why the past happened as it did. Although newer, more factual information will not erase
long taught misconceptions about collapsed societies like Jamestown, El Dorado, or the Norse
Greenlanders, it provides the chance to better understand historic events in an effort to help guide
decisions that could affect the near and distant future. Jamestown has a permanently secured place in
American history as the young country s first successful, permanent colony. When the Europeans
arrived in 1606 with 104 men and boys hoping to find their riches in the New World, they found a
largely empty landscape. Over the next few decades, the Jamestown people were able to thrive while
the native populations were dying because the colonists had more advanced technology, Christianity,
and European sensibilities. They were able to properly manage the empty, surrounding area, convert it
to farmland, and grow highly profitable tobacco that helped spur further growth in what would
become the US. However, it s reality tells a much different story. The first colonists arrived in March

Examples Of Greed In Mcteague
Written in 1899, Frank Norris novel, McTeague serves as a view of societal factions of his time
period. Norris illustrates the stratification of society in this San Francisco community by using the
concept of Social Darwinism. He gives detailed accounts of the inner workings of society along with
the emotions of the time. Through his characters, Norris shows the separation of classes and the greed
that grew abundantly during the late 19th century. He also gives a grim picture of survival in his
depiction of the theory of natural selection.
In the first chapter, Norris paints a picture of a town setting. He describes Polk Street as
one of those cross streets peculiar to Western cities, situated in the heart of the residence quarter, ...

These people are separated by their occupation, which also determines their activity on Polk Street. In
noticing this activity, one can see the distinct lines drawn between the workers and the wealthy.
Also, in this story of greed and deception told, the reader can see the underlying greed of the working
class. The characters of Maria Macapa and Zerkow ooze greed from every pore. At the beginning of
the novel, Maria can be found going through the tenant s apartments for junk to turn in to Zerkow for
payment. Once there, she delights in telling the story of her family s former fortune concentrating on a
gold plate, for which Zerkow drools over the mere thought of. It is in this scene that the reader also
learns of the obsession

India After Ww1
The question for this investigation is: How did WW1 affect India s social development with Great
Britain? India played a key part in World War One; however, their contribution to Great Britain is
severely overlooked. They began pushing towards a more self government approach and this began
impacting their relations with Britain. Expecting to be rewarded for their efforts, India assisted Britain
in the war by sending millions of volunteers to the Western Front; thus began their alliance goals with
them. Near the end of the war, they began realizing that self government they pictured wasn t going to
happen, so tensions began rising towards the Independence movement with Mahatma Gandhi and the
efforts towards Civil Disobedience. Sources in relevance were Letter from Gandhi to the Viceroy,
Lord Irwin, 2 March 1930. No. 77 and The Lord Pethick Lawrence s Britain s India Policy. There ...

Hence, the purpose of this letter was written in hopes of giving the British government an idea of the
tension India has with them since they do not approve of their constrictive efforts and lack of
acknowledgment for the war effort. It emphasizes the trend of decreased Indian involvement due to
British policy and outlines the effects this has on the people of India. This source is a valuable
example of a personal statement made by the leader of the Indian people and it introduces key
concepts as to why British rule is a curse. However, limitations to my investigation using this source
are that it may be biased since Gandhi is a Hindu reformer and this letter outlines his actions
personally not the entire nation. Another limitation is the time period in which the letter was written as
it could not meet the needs of the people and the sacrifice they made and wanting

Imagery Throughout History Has Been A Big Factor In Creating
Imagery throughout history has been a big factor in creating social norms and acts as a site of conflict.
Throughout time, we have used art pieces such as stories, mythology, paintings and movies as a way
of conflict, to get a point across, or to tell a story. A big theme presented over time has been the
ideologies of women and their role. Through time, we are able to see the way in which the roles of a
female has been continuously constructed and reconstructed over and over again. This paper will look
at the portrayal of femme fatale throughout history showing the lack of progression when it comes to
gender stereotypes.
The femme fatale is a mysterious, seductive woman who lures men into dangerous or compromising
situations, attracting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These characteristics are even present in the story of Adam and Eve. In fact, characteristics drawn
from biblical contexts seem to be very prominent. It is through these images of a woman that first
create these gender stereotypes. As we go on, it will be seen that different pieces of work allow
maintaining and further reinforcing the stereotype of the femme fatale. The story of Adam and Eve is
perhaps the first example of a femme fatale. Eve the first woman on earth, created from a man s rib as
a gift to Adam from god. Eve sought the Tree of Knowledge and as the story goes, bit into the apple in
the Garden of Eden, letting all evil into the world. Eve brought about the fall of mankind and
introduced things such as sin and death. She was tempted by the serpent and further, tempts Adam
with her beauty and sexuality to bite the apple thus being the classic example of a femme fatale.
Another popular example is taken from Jewish tradition. The very popular Lilith is also associated
with the first version of creation. Estimated at 1025 1594 BCB Lilith was Adams first wife. God is
said to have created Lilith from clay, not from a mans rib, thus being equal to man. The story goes as
Lilith shows up as a naked lady to seduce husbands who otherwise are reasonable husbands. Lilith s
name is associated with being related to a dark deity, ex goddess, ancient demon, and even a vampire
throughout time. One thing

African American Radio Free Radio Case Study

The speech signal is typically represented in electrical pulses that are amplitude modulated by the
envelope of the signal. In the CIS (continuous interleaved sampling) strategy (Wilson et al., 1991), the
speech signal is divided into a number of bands and the envelope of each band is extracted and used to
modulate the pulse trains. Speech/Voice is a pressure wave, which is afterward converted in to
numerical values in order to be digitally processed. Converting pressure wave in to numerical values
needs some hardware devices: a microphone allows the pressure sound wave to be converted in to an
electrical signal. A sampling at time intervals yields voltage values, and finally an analog to digital
converter quantizes each signal in to a specific number. Normally, a sampler and an analog to digital
converter are integrated in to audio card, where the basic stages of the signal processing are

Alcoholism In American Drinkers In The 1920 s
American Drinkers.
In 1920 s America, many Americans found themselves on the wrong side of the law for nothing more
than having a nice cold beer after a long day of work. Many Americans in the 1920s went from being
ordinary citizens who took pleasure in drinking alcohol to criminals who had to get what they wanted
by going through the black market. The so called dry s had good intentions, wanting to create a better
functioning society. But prohibition caused more harm than good, with increasing crime rates and
alcohol related deaths, with prohibition only to be repealed a decade later. The temperance movement
began in the mid 1800 s, and what members of this movement advocated for was voluntary sobriety.
There were many organizations that followed that advocated temperance, such as the Carrie Nation
Prohibition Party, The Prohibition party, and The Suffrage Movement. The Anti Saloon League and
The Women s Christian Temperance Movement especially gained major political influence in the 19th
century (Staff). All these organizations believed that alcoholism was what caused all of society s
problems, and convincing others to abstain from drinking would create a better functioning society. To
garner support for their cause, prohibitionists used racist tactics. It was during the era of world war
one, and Americans were feeling quite resentful towards Germans. Because Germans were associated
with beer drinking as well as breweries, Americans were more than willing to develop

A Method Of Preventing School Shootings
A method of preventing school shootings would be to acknowledge risk factors that the student is
facing. For example, bullying is a risk factor for school shootings. In a research study done in 2001 of
37 school shootings, it was reported that 75% of the school shooters felt bullied, threatened, or injured
by others in which most of the shooters in the report had experienced long term bullying and
harassment from their peers (Duplechain Morris, 2014). In addition, the authors do state: School
personnel too often accept that children get teased and bullied every day, because teachers, parents,
students, and other adults have grown up thinking that bullying is a normal part of school life. It has
easily become an accepted part of today s school culture (Ibid, 2014). The authors believe that schools
view bullying as something that students should get used to. This does show how bullying is an issue
in schools. It is not solely to blame in regards to school shootings, but is a risk factor for them.
Relationships and past traumas are risk factors for school shootings (Duplechain Morris, 2014). The
author states in regards to relationships and school shootings
The lack of attachment with their parents or caregivers at the beginning of their life to some of the
school shooters. Sueng Hui Cho, who was the shooter of the Virginia Tech Massacre on April 16, 2007
suffered from this kind of risk factor. Cho did not communicate with his parents or those around him

partnership and created the brand Bratz and marked the line bases on his concepts. The drawing was
the basis idea for the first generation of Bratz dolls names, Cloe, Yasmin, Sasha and Jade. After the
success of Bratz, Mattel sued in 2004 his formed employee Carlos Bryant alleging copyright and trade
secrets violation, claiming he had worked for MGA to develop the Bratz dolls while still employed by
Mattel. Therefore, they owned the concept and therefore the Bratz brand. The first phase of the case

Heroic As A Hero
What does the word heroic mean to you? What pops into your mind? For me when I think of the word
heroic, I think of my dad. My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is alway
reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything, he is also very understanding and humble.
He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also
goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was
shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone
started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was
calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be
found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home
he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life
changing day, has made my dad and I more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day
that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In
our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member.
Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass
Festival, Harvest Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal
time to help others that are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist
changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or
have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on
his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it
makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For not
only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton. When someone makes mistakes usually
there is a lot of disappointment. Perhaps you do something you re not supposed to, or you let your
sassiness out, or maybe you fail a test because you didn t study. Those

Essay On Greenhouse Gases
Emissions of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, are among the major threats to
sustainability. The damages they cause to the environment, represent serious external costs to society
i.e. a negative externality. The impact of these emissions does not directly fall on those who conduct
the production activities responsible for the emissions but on the entire society, especially the future
generations. Diagrammatically, this situation can be represented by a marginal social cost (MSC)
higher than the marginal private cost (MPC), figure 1. Meaning that the costs of production of the
polluting firms are less than the costs that spill over onto the society due to polluted air, consequences
for the health etc..Thus if the market forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As reported by the article carbon taxes are one of the simplest, market friendly way of driving with
climate change . They have in fact numerous advantages. First of all, they bring a consistent
government revenue which can be spent to subsidies renewable sources of energy. Secondly, these
taxes make the energy prices more predictable, which will increase the level of business confidence
because firms can now planning their future investments with more security. Finally, they are not
subjected to corruption, since they cannot be manipulated like the cap and trade system. On the other
hand they may be too low, resulting in less incentive for the producers to use other form of energy,
since is more convenient for them just to pay the tax. Moreover, this could mean a rise in
unemployment since the output will decrease and therefore firms will reduce the workforce.
Furthermore, the tax will not make a compelling contribution because Bangladesh is a small producer
of carbon dioxide, meaning that it will not make a significant contribution to contrast the climate
change, which is a global phenomenon. Finally, as stated in the article there is the danger that the
burden of the tax will be passed to the consumers, putting a greater financial pressure on the lower
income households.
An alternative for government is to set instead a cap and trade system, which is a system in which
permits to pollute are

Malignant hypertension is an inherited condition. It occurs when the patient has a severe reaction
caused by being exposed to certain drugs used as a part of the anesthesia for surgical procedures. It
can be fatal if it is not treated quickly. In most cases, there are no signs or symptoms until the reaction
occurs.
Signs and Symptoms The key symptoms of malignant hyperthermia are a dangerously high body
temperature, severe muscle spasms, rhabdomyolysis, acidosis and a fast heart rate.

risk remains. In some rare occurrences, people with the condition have shown signs of a reaction after

been diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia so that they can be prepared to treat the reaction if it

The American Revolution And The Causes Of The American...
The causes of the American Revolution don t just start at the acts that were passed, they go way back.
Starting in 1763, the end of the French and Indian war. Wars are costly, so after this war Britain was in
great debt, so as always they put that on the colonists, raising their taxes. Next is the Treaty of Paris
1763 when British gained land because of their win in the French and Indian War. From this gain of
land, settlers began to move west making the Natives very unhappy. To save Britain from another all
out war, they decided to pass the Proclamation of 1763 which stated that settlers were permitted to
settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This made the Natives happy, but us colonists felt
differently. Britain should have fought for our land and our rights, instead they just gave it up to the
Natives. Shows how much they care about us, right! These acts brought on by the British government
are absolutely outrageous. First, they bring on the Quartering Acts, passed on March twenty fourth,
1765, which say that colonists must house a soldiers if they come knocking on their door. Ridiculous!
Colonists have to waste the little money they have on food and supplies for the soldiers so the British
government can save money, they are violating colonists rights. Then in 1765 the Stamp Act was
passed making colonists buy a special tax on a kinds of products or activities; which was totally unfair
considering, the colonists had no say in the Parliament. To get across how

The Expansion Of Foreign Aid
In the denotation of foreign aid takes many definitions in different literature, but as Tarp provided it is
government transfers from donor countries to under developed or poor countries. That is intended for
promoting development and reducing poverty, although there may be other aims of giving aid. As
there are major trend of foreign aid and most reasonable issues that foreign aid fluctuated in different
years, therefore the paper will look back the trend of foreign aid and it s changes in globally that has
started from 1940s one of the major trend of foreign aid that happened in the world was European
recovery programs known as marshal plan which its main aim was assistance from United states of
America to recover Europe.
Also the paper will focus on how 1980 s oil shocks changed economic nature as well as how
multilateral support increased in 1970 s there were also other foreign aid trends cited in this paper as
the end of Berlin wall and downfall of soviet union and in that time aid has really peaked in real terms
from 1974 to the final of the Cold War as some countries attained greatly UN ODA target of 0.7% of
national income (OECD, 2011)
As the same time second part of this question will discuss reasons why the donor countries grant
bilateral aid to poor and developing countries, rather than financial crises, reducing poverty, recovery

The Dark Knight Rises Film
Even to this day, many have failed to replicate what has been known to be the most successful
superhero trilogy of all time. With awards totaling south of over seventy total wins and over 100
nominations, the Dark Knight Rises remains to be everything a film needs to be to always remain a
timeless classic. The method the team used to overwhelm the world with this immaculate trilogy was
to create the last installment as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many methods were
used to reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant cinematography, the
acting that brought the characters to life, and the director s genius ending that transitioned the Dark
Knight Rises from an ordinary film, into an admired piece of art to all.
One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of its award
winning cinematography that the brilliant Mr. Wally Pfister orchestrated throughout the vigorous 3
hour film. Without a doubt, the vividness portrayed from the gritty lightening aids the goal of
achieving timeless art through the process of using natural light to depict the different array of natural
colors to create beauty. Another method of the brilliant cinematography that this film contains is the
directing of the action sequences. Christopher Nolan constructed a scene prop that allows him to film
night scenes during the day. This allows him to overexpose the lightening during the actual fighting

Maggie s Case Study
When evaluating Maggie s situation, it is important to analyse social support networks in the matter of
community connectedness as a protective factor of her health. Many epidemiologists corroborate that
a healthy social network relates to positive health, such as reduced rates of depression. (Thompson,
Teresa. 2014) Social support can be delivered by family, friends, teachers, social groups and many
more. Social support aims to educate through advice, information and resources for a common goal to
improve health.
Maggie s story outlines her struggles; giving birth to her Step Father s child at 15 years of age,
resulting in her abandonment by her family, then later experiencing physical and emotional abuse in
her marriage. It is hypothesized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later in Maggie s story, she marries a man who is controlling over her social life (forces her to stay at
home rather than work). His urge for dominance eventually leads to a physical assault with Maggie. It
is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically healthy for Maggie and her
two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships have positive effects on physical and
mental health. (Berklan, L Glass, T Brisette, I. 2000) For the duration of their relationship, Maggie
records her social circle consisting of her family only. This is not acceptable as two young children are
not experienced enough to be giving Maggie social support, neither is her abusive husband. Social
support groups may have encouraged Maggie to leave her husband, providing her with temporary
accommodation or even legal advice regarding a divorce or a restraining order. This advice can stem
from social support groups such as mothers groups, community support groups and even work
colleagues. A study of 60 women revealed that lack of institutional and informal social support were
related to low self esteem and severe depressive symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study
suggested violence related stress may have indirect effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also
important to note Maggie s restricted social circle, absence of social relationships and dearth of
affection in her marriage may have caused her to experience loneliness. A study on the relationship
loneliness has on physical health discloses loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years
of age with a common risk factor of being female and substandard social sources. Inherently, the study
summarised lonely people are less happy and satisfied the foundation to depression. ( Mushtaq, R

Henry Viii Influence
Literature has become the most important factor in the construction of the English monarchy. It has
become the way in which people communicate and share their ideas throughout the world. English
literature is the essential piece in ruling a country and determining the future for that country. In
England, English literature has evolved through a number of versions due to the changes made to the
policies and laws, religion, culture, and the monarchy. Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 by
Elizabeth of York and Henry VII at Greenwich Palace (BBC News). In his early age, he was very
interested in the arts and enjoyed reading literature. In 1509, Henry VIII succeeded his father Henry
VII (1457 1509), but had originally become heir to the throne after his older brother, Prince Arthur,
died in 1502 (Henry VIII (r.1509 1547)). He reigned during the House of Tudor monarchy when he
was only eighteen years old until he died in 1547, having Edward VI succeed him. Throughout his
years of reign, he married six women including: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour,
Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. In 1527, Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon,
since she could no longer conceive children, and became infatuated with Anne Boleyn (Henry s
Divorce). This decision led to the English Protestant Reformation which were a series of events...[in]
which the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic
Church (English Reformation).

William Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation
William Bradford
Throughout William Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation , his attachment to his religion was very
strong and very verbally shown throughout his work. Bradford was between the age of twelve and
thirteen when he had first heard his first sermon by a minister named Richard Clyfton and he later
joined with Clyfton in the year 1606. Bradford begins with ...some godly and zealous preachers, and
God s blessings on their labors... God is already being praised in the first few sentences of this work to
bless the labor of their works and throughout the land. The goal of this paper is to bring into light three
different sections throughout the work, where Bradford uses his religion to prove a point and to show
how his religious faith is freely expressed by leaving England.
In Bradford s work, there are instances, such as the moment before their departure from Leyden,
where he quotes from the scripture saying ...we might humble ourselves before God, and seek of Him
a right way for us, and for our children, and all our substances . Bradford was seeking for a safe
departure but also, praying that with this departure, they will find a new place to call home. Bradford
goes on giving a vivid picture of the activities that came before the departure, ...with friendly
entertainment and Christian discourse and other expressions of true Christian love . Even with their
departure to leave the next day many can t sleep or won t sleep due to the excitement, nerves, or terror

Occupational Psychology Case Study
Industrial organizational psychology is a field of psychology concerned with the application of
psychological theories and doctrine to organizations. This field concentrates on improving workplace
output and interrelated issues such as the mental and physical welfare of employees. Experts in the
industrial organizational field offer a wide variety of services including investigating worker attitudes
and conduct, assessing companies, and perform leadership training exercises. The overall objective of
this discipline is to investigate and comprehend human behavior in the office. Occupational issues
bear great significance to psychologists, given that most employees spend the majority of their adult
lives working in offices. Work acts as the defining factor for all human beings making it an important
subject to study (Avsec, 2010: Weinberg, Sutherland, Cooper, Palgrave Connect, 2010). Other related
issues that are of interest to psychologists include correlating between the right job and individual
character set and discovering new methods of lowering workplace stress.

The Roles Of The Elizabethan Period
The Elizabethan period, named after the greatest Queen of England Queen Elizabeth I who ruled
England during that time, is considered to be the most splendid age of the history of English
Literature, the golden age of English history and one of the greatest periods of world history. It was a
time of many changes and developments and remarkable feats were achieved during this time. But
how different is it exactly from the present? At the same manner, how is it akin to the present?

The role of both men and women at that time were hardly any different than it was before. The
Elizabethan women from wealthy and noble families were sometimes allowed the privilege of an
Education but the Elizabethan women who were commoners would attend school not receive any
formal type of education. Their education would be for the preparation of the only real career option
for a girl that was considered at that time marriage. Being married was immensely desirable by all
women of the lower classes. Living their life in a convent or nunnery was no longer an option to
remain single as a result of the dissolution of the monasteries. Therefore, the only alternative to
marriage for Elizabethan women of the lower classes was domestic service. Those women who did not
marry or haven t married were thought about by their neighbors as witches and were subject to
suspicion. Due to this, all Elizabethan women would be expected to marry, wives were regarded as
property of their husbands and the women were expected to get married and be dependent on the male
population all their life. Though the role of women in the present is still not equal as that of men, the
role of women has immensely changed over the generations. Much restrictions were either removed or
loosened. Nowadays, women can receive formal education and go to exclusive schools, marrying is

Faustian Bargain Analysis
A Faustian Bargain is a complicated idea which translates in popular terms to selling one s soul to the
devil. This definition consists of four layers. The first layer consists of two different aspects. The first
aspect is doing something evil such as making a deal with the devil in order for personal gain. The
second aspect is in pursuit of a lofty ideal. In pursuing the lofty ideal; the ideal is corrupted because of
the methods to achieve it. The second layer is an unwillingness or inability to see things as they really
are, to see evil as evil. The third layer is the felling of guilt after making a deal with the devil. The
final layer is a third party attempting to convince the person from completing a Faustian Bargain.
Within this layer one must seek whether they are a victim of external or internal influence. Several
common elements of a Faustian Bargain emerge when we compare Button Button and Dr. Faustus.
Those components include motivations of lofty ideals or self interest, the inability to see things as they
really are, remorse, and the persuasion of an external or internal influence.
Though Norma and Faustus both make a bargain with the devil, their motivations differ. Norma s
motivations are based on self interest. Barnet states that the common definition of a Faustian Bargain
is that some people are so eager to gain immediate power that they engage in actions that they know
are evil (Barnet, vii). Norma s self interest leads her to engage in evil

statistical analysis and dependence on personal interviews or other less structured methods of data

Such problems impede their recovery and ability to regain control over their lives (Phillips Park,
2006). This results because domestic violence directly affects women s financial security in key areas
of life: debts, bills, accommodation, legal issues, health, transport, migration, employment, social
security and child support (Arney Scott, 2010). In this regard women need financial support to bridge
the financial gap so that they become self sufficient. In addition, Arney Scott (2010) state that
domestic violence is traumatizing and counselling services should be availed for social and emotional
support.
It is against the mentioned background of domestic violence that the author chose to use photovoice as
a visual and innovative method so as to assess women s social service needs. Photovoice is a research
and action method that, according to Wang (1999), enables individuals to identify, represent and
develop their community through a specific photographic technique. The method allows researchers to
access voices of silenced populations, thus shedding light to what has been happening behind closed

John Bowlby s Influence On Children s Development
John Bowlby s work in attachment has been the foundation when determining the attcahments and
bonds that a child and parent may experience (Webb, 2011). According to Bowlby, attachment is
referring to a lasting, mutual bond of affection that is dependent on an individual or more than one

important task of a parent or a caregiver. Not all parents or caregivers can provide their child with a

jobs, could result in limited attachment to their parent or primary caregiver. Parental stress and their

From Shakespearean time to present day, the dating and marrying of certain people has been put in the
hands of teenagers. In the 14 to 1500 s parents always had a say in who their son or daughter was to

Gwendolyn Brook And Kwame Dawess Analysis
The African American Struggle Through Contemporary Poetry Ai, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Kwame
Dawes are all contemporary African American poets. Their works often focused on different aspects
of the post civil rights movement in the African American community. Ai was known for writing
poetry on hard subjects. She was also known for writing poems that were graphic. Being multiracial,(
1/2 Japanese, 1/8 Choctaw, 1/4 Black, and 1/16 Irish), many of her poems were based on the
complexity of identity ( qtd. in Ai, a Steadfast Poetic Channel of Hard Lives, Dies at 62 ). On the other
hand, Kwame Dawes is a Nigerian born man of Jamaican descent. Gwendolyn Brooks was an African
American woman whose adult years were spent during the civil rights movement. Tornado Child is a
poem written by Kwame Dawes in 2002. It celebrates different aspects of black womanhood. In
contrast, Gwendolyn Brook s We Real Cool is written in the sixties and talks about the negative
aspects of stereotypes. The Kid by Ai is graphic and depicts violence. All of the poems demonstrate
different struggles that are faced by the African American community. This essay will specifically

Essay Lactose Intolerance
Lactose Intolerance Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest significant amounts of lactose, the
predominant sugar of milk. This inability results from a shortage of the enzyme lactase, which is
normally produced by the cells that line the small intestine. Lactase breaks down milk sugar into
simpler forms that can then be absorbed into the bloodstream. When there is not enough lactase to
digest the amount of lactose consumed, the results, although not usually dangerous, may be very
distressing. While not all persons deficient in lactase have symptoms, those who do are considered to
be lactose intolerant.

Persons who suffer from lactase deficiency and do not avoid lactose may suffer from weight loss and
malnutrition.
The severity of symptoms varies depending on the amount of lactose each individual can tolerate.
Some of the symptoms may be similar to those of milk allergy but milk allergies can cause the body to
react quicker, more often within a few minutes.
Common symptoms include nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhoea, which begin about 30
minutes to 2 hours after eating or drinking foods containing lactose. The severity of symptoms varies
depending on the amount of lactose each individual can tolerate.
Some causes of lactose intolerance are well known. For instance, certain digestive diseases and
injuries to the small intestine can reduce the amount of enzymes produced. In rare cases, children are
born without the ability to produce lactase. For most people, though, lactase deficiency is a condition
that develops naturally over time. After about the age of 2 years, the body begins to produce less
lactase. However, many people may not experience symptoms until they are much older.
How is lactose intolerance diagnosed?
The most common tests used to measure the absorption of lactose in the digestive system are the
lactose tolerance test, the hydrogen breath test, and the

Role Of Women In WWII
Role of Women The role of women during WWII was heavily impacted by propaganda during the
1930s 1940s, some of which had motivated women to take on generally masculine duties, some of
which didn t. In the article Manning the Factories : Propaganda and Policy on the Employment of
Women, 1939 1947 written by Susan L. Carruthers, talks about the decrease in women employment.
Susan writes of a remobilization campaign for women called Women Must Work which was meant to

Divorce/ Family Breakdown Changes to family circumstances can have a profound effect on children.
Separation or Divorce can leave the child with a sense of bereavement, like they have lost one of their

allowing such practices to exist. I do not believe the marketing of the prescription medication to be
solely unethical but more of as a shade of grey in between ethical and unethical moral standards
dependent upon the actions of the individual pharmaceutical companies. Advertising to the general
public can be ethical if the medication truly benefits those in society ... Show more content on

This false sense of security held by the public at large leads the masses to believe in the complete
truthfulness of drug advertisements which could and will lead many consumers to not do their
research on a medication before seeking it out to get it prescribed.
The other area of moral concern for many is in regards to the safety of the general public. The
question being; is it safe for public health to allow pharmaceuticals to advertise and push new drugs
directly to the public? The answer to this isn t clear, in May of 2011 the Congressional Budget Office
released its study; Potential Effects of a Ban on Direct To Consumer Advertising of New Prescription
Drugs. The study was inconclusive, it stated that a moratorium on direct to consumer advertising
could benefit public health by providing more time for possible safety problems with some drugs to be
uncovered, but could also harm public health by delaying the widespread adoption of useful new
drugs (Procon.org).
From an ethical standpoint this depends upon the company advertising the product. If they create a
medicine to help relieve a certain ailment, as long as they disclose the facts, dangers, and risks of the
drug, I believe that they are doing a public service because the advance in modern medicine can help
society as a whole, but if a company produces a

Just Grow A Pair Short Story
Just do it! Grow a pair! Why are you talking to yourself? Pay attention to him! My head is going 1,000
miles a minute, my palms are as sweaty as if they were attached to an overweight kid running the mile
during fat camp, and I m pretty sure I can feel the pools of sweat forming underneath my arms. Each
step I take feels like it s heavier. The hallway to the parking garage is becoming longer and longer as
we get (what is supposed to be) closer to the door. This cannot be that hard can it? I always see it in
those cheesy romantic movies all the damn time. Why the hell am I feeling all these emotions that I
never felt before? What the fuck happened to me? It all started at the beginning of the fall semester. I
came to the first day of Comic Book Writing fifteen minutes early, as usual, and picked out the seat I

We ended up texting more and more as each day passed. I found out that he is a vegetarian, only
watches drama and comedy movies, I also found out that he is a hopeless romantic, and he has had
some family problems. His parents got divorced when he was at a young age which put a huge strain
on his family. Once he started college and moved away from his family, his mom started being a total
bitch to him and nearly ostracized him from the other family members. She would purposely make
family dinners that somehow had some sort of meat product inside of it and would always get into
arguments with him (I actually witnessed one argument between the two over the phone). I eventually
ended up mirroring the way he dressed. Whenever he would wear oxford shoes, I would wear a pair
the next week, if not the next day. He liked mustard colored cardigans? I bought two different ones in
the attempt to get his attention. He was a Creative Writing major? I went and bought Slaughterhouse 5
and Naked Lunch just to carry around and somewhat read while he was

Vocation
People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because they
exel. Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many
options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make
are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being
unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is,
living happily. This does not mean that the work/job I perform is not hard. Instead, it means, that I
must find something that I enjoy doing, and find a career based around my interest. This concept is
essentially vocation. Mick McCarthy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in civic
responsibility ) and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the
language to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired. In
sum, McCarthy s discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction. His
approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God. Spohn
frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job seeker
who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to have more
meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a
vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps one seek the right
vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one understand personal
desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for seeking and choosing
a path. An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction to a broader concern for
justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they are strangers.

Violent Screen Time On Children
The Impact of Violent Screen Time on Children A ten year old boy stares at a television screen
mashing buttons on a PlayStation controller as the sound of gunshots, bombs, and shouts fill his
bedroom. While his parents say, It s keeping him out of trouble, they don t see the emotional problems
violent video games are causing their son. In 2014, TIME Magazine reported that, Approximately
90% of children in the U.S. play video games, and more than 90% of those games involve mature
content that often includes violence (Park). Even though many parents and caregivers don t see the
harm in the violence shown in video games, television, and the internet, the effects of this exposure on
children today is undeniable. Because children are being exposed to the harmful effects of violent
screen time, they are more aggressive, more likely to engage in violent behavior, and desensitized to
violence in general. When children play a lot of video games with adult content or watch television
shows that include violent scenes, research has shown that they are more aggressive toward their
classmates, friends, siblings, teachers, and even their own parents. They think that being mean and
vicious, like they see on television and video games, is how they can act in real life. This aggressive
behavior can result in bullying, physical and verbal. A recent study stated that, 60 percent of middle
school boys and 40 percent of middle school girls who played at least one Mature rated (M rated)

Examining Canadian Discrimination within a Society in...
Every individual in society is guaranteed a certain amount of protection and equality from the state
regardless of their situation or background. Depending on how the terms discrimination and equality
are interpreted in the courts will those rights apply.
In the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 15 consists of two subsections which will be examined
in terms of discrimination within society. As stated in section 15 (1) Every individual is equal before
and under the law and has the right to the equal protection of the law without discrimination...... .1 The
term discrimination here refers to all the forms of discrimination such as race, ethnicity, or any forms
of disabilities. However, discrimination can also be applied in a general ... Show more content on

There are ways for the courts to prevent things such as trivial matters in courts through proper
interpretation. There are two ways courts can interpret matters, there is the textual and contextual
approach. In this situation, the approach would be more contextual as it would focus on the use of
reason to interpret the law beyond what is in the statute and more based on societal factors.8 Societal
factors refer to a person s economic, financial, educational, or a person s background. Some people in
society have a low standing in all these factors, which would put them at a disadvantage and most
laws reflect those needs.
All these factors contribute to how the Andrews case and other issues could be used to support the
inclusion of the terms social condition and social class within section 15 of the Charter. There are
other elements that can support this such as the type of equality that is involved and how it relates to
human dignity
This case is significant in terms of this paper since the courts discussed some key principles
concerning section 15. One of those principles claims that Section 15 is not, however, a general
guarantee of equality: differential treatment does not necessarily result in inequality... .3 In most
circumstances, this can be considered true as the Charter cannot provide protection for every single
issue, otherwise people would go to

Ethical Effects Of Albinism
Life is not fair, get used to it, said Bill Gates (2000). Bill is actually true, especially for people who
were born with albinism in Africa. Instead of their sickness, a high number of albinos in Africa are
often tortured by people who do not comprehend about albinism. They treat albinos like just an animal
or a product which is invaluable in the black market. Newman (2016) found that albinism is one of the
genetic diseases that caused by a mutation gene. This gene is the key to create melanin that found in
the color of retinas, hair, and skin. This is why albinos have pale skin, white or blond hair and reddish
eyes. Albino s body is totally sensitivity and fragile. In an unfortunate way, many of witchdoctors in
Africa strongly believe that using parts of albino s body or their bones as an ingredient in the worship
will bring a good fortune and wealth, so these cause an immoral albino hunting. ... Show more content

can be found 1 in every 5,000 15,000 people in Africa and 1 in 19 people carry a gene. In Africa,
albinism is prevalent than other countries because of the motherhood in the same relative. Although
many people in Africa still treat albinos with prejudice and also hunt them for a superstition worship,
it is generally accepted that albinos in Africa should not be hunted, injured or killed just because of the
unverifiable belief. People should be conscious that they are one of the humans who want the

The Influence Of Righting Reflex On Earth
THE SCIENCE BEHIND; Why cats always land on their feet
Felines, such interesting animals, varying from a large ferocious lion to a meer house cat. These
creatures are powerful and very intelligent animals, with the occasionally clumsy cat. One of their
most used skills is their ability to leap, jump or fall and always land on their feet. They make it look so
easy. But do not be deceived, there is actually some complicated feline effort and science that goes
into their graceful tumbles and leaps.
Righting Reflex, that s the basic and simple answer. The righting Reflex is a cat s ability to almost
instantaneously turn itself towards the ground, allowing itself to almost always land on their feet, but
there always that cat who will be distracted by a bird or something. Cats have a very flexible backbone

  • 2. Natural And Man Made Disasters This paper will discuss the differences between two different natural and man made disasters. The disasters that will be discussed are Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Additionally, this paper will look into the specifics of what constitutes a natural and man made disaster. Specifically, this paper will look into each disaster to include the events surrounding them; the risks; and the assessments. Furthermore, this paper will look at some of the details of each disaster and why there was so much devastation. Finally, this paper will look at a few similarities, but mainly the differences between the two, and how the effects of each still linger today. Natural Disaster Natural disasters are anything from floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, or anything else nature could develop that causes massive amounts of damage, or cause a large losses of life. Such events are not anything caused because of human beings, but only by the actions of atmospheric conditions, or due to the changes of continental drifts that these disasters occur. Technology has come a long way since the early days before the industrial revolution where predictions can be made and warnings can be issued. This helps reduce the amount of possible loss of lives that would occur in 21st century. However, that is not what happened during Hurricane Katrina, a category 5 Hurricane. • 5. American History And Its Impact On The West And Distant... Unsurprisingly, many historic cultures have not been accurately studied in modernity. Due to personal biases, incomplete data, or a multitude of other issues, incorrect perceptions about these collapsed societies remain. However, modern studies are beginning to reveal the inaccuracies of those enduring, false notions. It is valuable to compare misunderstandings to the historic reality in addition to discovering why the past happened as it did. Although newer, more factual information will not erase long taught misconceptions about collapsed societies like Jamestown, El Dorado, or the Norse Greenlanders, it provides the chance to better understand historic events in an effort to help guide decisions that could affect the near and distant future. Jamestown has a permanently secured place in American history as the young country s first successful, permanent colony. When the Europeans arrived in 1606 with 104 men and boys hoping to find their riches in the New World, they found a largely empty landscape. Over the next few decades, the Jamestown people were able to thrive while the native populations were dying because the colonists had more advanced technology, Christianity, and European sensibilities. They were able to properly manage the empty, surrounding area, convert it to farmland, and grow highly profitable tobacco that helped spur further growth in what would become the US. However, it s reality tells a much different story. The first colonists arrived in March and by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Examples Of Greed In Mcteague Written in 1899, Frank Norris novel, McTeague serves as a view of societal factions of his time period. Norris illustrates the stratification of society in this San Francisco community by using the concept of Social Darwinism. He gives detailed accounts of the inner workings of society along with the emotions of the time. Through his characters, Norris shows the separation of classes and the greed that grew abundantly during the late 19th century. He also gives a grim picture of survival in his depiction of the theory of natural selection. In the first chapter, Norris paints a picture of a town setting. • 7. India After Ww1 The question for this investigation is: How did WW1 affect India s social development with Great Britain? India played a key part in World War One; however, their contribution to Great Britain is severely overlooked. They began pushing towards a more self government approach and this began impacting their relations with Britain. Expecting to be rewarded for their efforts, India assisted Britain in the war by sending millions of volunteers to the Western Front; thus began their alliance goals with them. Near the end of the war, they began realizing that self government they pictured wasn t going to happen, so tensions began rising towards the Independence movement with Mahatma Gandhi and the efforts towards Civil Disobedience. Sources in relevance were Letter from Gandhi to the Viceroy, Lord Irwin, 2 March 1930. No. 77 and The Lord Pethick Lawrence s Britain s India Policy. There ... This source is a valuable example of a personal statement made by the leader of the Indian people and it introduces key concepts as to why British rule is a curse. However, limitations to my investigation using this source are that it may be biased since Gandhi is a Hindu reformer and this letter outlines his actions personally not the entire nation. Throughout time, we have used art pieces such as stories, mythology, paintings and movies as a way of conflict, to get a point across, or to tell a story. A big theme presented over time has been the ideologies of women and their role. Through time, we are able to see the way in which the roles of a female has been continuously constructed and reconstructed over and over again. This paper will look at the portrayal of femme fatale throughout history showing the lack of progression when it comes to gender stereotypes. These characteristics are even present in the story of Adam and Eve. In fact, characteristics drawn from biblical contexts seem to be very prominent. It is through these images of a woman that first create these gender stereotypes. As we go on, it will be seen that different pieces of work allow maintaining and further reinforcing the stereotype of the femme fatale. The story of Adam and Eve is perhaps the first example of a femme fatale. Eve the first woman on earth, created from a man s rib as a gift to Adam from god. Eve sought the Tree of Knowledge and as the story goes, bit into the apple in the Garden of Eden, letting all evil into the world. Eve brought about the fall of mankind and introduced things such as sin and death. She was tempted by the serpent and further, tempts Adam with her beauty and sexuality to bite the apple thus being the classic example of a femme fatale. Another popular example is taken from Jewish tradition. The very popular Lilith is also associated with the first version of creation. Estimated at 1025 1594 BCB Lilith was Adams first wife. God is said to have created Lilith from clay, not from a mans rib, thus being equal to man. The story goes as Lilith shows up as a naked lady to seduce husbands who otherwise are reasonable husbands. • 12. Alcoholism In American Drinkers In The 1920 s American Drinkers. In 1920 s America, many Americans found themselves on the wrong side of the law for nothing more than having a nice cold beer after a long day of work. Many Americans in the 1920s went from being ordinary citizens who took pleasure in drinking alcohol to criminals who had to get what they wanted by going through the black market. The so called dry s had good intentions, wanting to create a better functioning society. But prohibition caused more harm than good, with increasing crime rates and alcohol related deaths, with prohibition only to be repealed a decade later. The temperance movement began in the mid 1800 s, and what members of this movement advocated for was voluntary sobriety. There were many organizations that followed that advocated temperance, such as the Carrie Nation Prohibition Party, The Prohibition party, and The Suffrage Movement. The Anti Saloon League and The Women s Christian Temperance Movement especially gained major political influence in the 19th century (Staff). All these organizations believed that alcoholism was what caused all of society s problems, and convincing others to abstain from drinking would create a better functioning society. To garner support for their cause, prohibitionists used racist tactics. It was during the era of world war one, and Americans were feeling quite resentful towards Germans. • 13. A Method Of Preventing School Shootings A method of preventing school shootings would be to acknowledge risk factors that the student is facing. For example, bullying is a risk factor for school shootings. In a research study done in 2001 of 37 school shootings, it was reported that 75% of the school shooters felt bullied, threatened, or injured by others in which most of the shooters in the report had experienced long term bullying and harassment from their peers (Duplechain Morris, 2014). In addition, the authors do state: School personnel too often accept that children get teased and bullied every day, because teachers, parents, students, and other adults have grown up thinking that bullying is a normal part of school life. It has easily become an accepted part of today s school culture (Ibid, 2014). The authors believe that schools view bullying as something that students should get used to. This does show how bullying is an issue in schools. It is not solely to blame in regards to school shootings, but is a risk factor for them. Relationships and past traumas are risk factors for school shootings (Duplechain Morris, 2014). The author states in regards to relationships and school shootings The lack of attachment with their parents or caregivers at the beginning of their life to some of the school shooters. He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. Starting in 1763, the end of the French and Indian war. Wars are costly, so after this war Britain was in great debt, so as always they put that on the colonists, raising their taxes. Next is the Treaty of Paris 1763 when British gained land because of their win in the French and Indian War. From this gain of land, settlers began to move west making the Natives very unhappy. To save Britain from another all out war, they decided to pass the Proclamation of 1763 which stated that settlers were permitted to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This made the Natives happy, but us colonists felt differently. Britain should have fought for our land and our rights, instead they just gave it up to the Natives. First, they bring on the Quartering Acts, passed on March twenty fourth, 1765, which say that colonists must house a soldiers if they come knocking on their door. Ridiculous! Colonists have to waste the little money they have on food and supplies for the soldiers so the British government can save money, they are violating colonists rights. It is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically healthy for Maggie and her two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships have positive effects on physical and mental health. (Berklan, L Glass, T Brisette, I. 2000) For the duration of their relationship, Maggie records her social circle consisting of her family only. This is not acceptable as two young children are not experienced enough to be giving Maggie social support, neither is her abusive husband. Social support groups may have encouraged Maggie to leave her husband, providing her with temporary accommodation or even legal advice regarding a divorce or a restraining order. This advice can stem from social support groups such as mothers groups, community support groups and even work colleagues. A study of 60 women revealed that lack of institutional and informal social support were related to low self esteem and severe depressive symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study suggested violence related stress may have indirect effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also important to note Maggie s restricted social circle, absence of social relationships and dearth of affection in her marriage may have caused her to experience loneliness. A study on the relationship loneliness has on physical health discloses loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years of age with a common risk factor of being female and substandard social sources. The second aspect is in pursuit of a lofty ideal. In pursuing the lofty ideal; the ideal is corrupted because of the methods to achieve it. Deontological Ethical Analysis of Direct to Consumer Pharmaceutical Marketing In Deontological ethics, morality of an action is based upon the particular action s adherence to moral laws independent of their consequences (DeGeorge 62). Direct to consumer marketing of pharmaceuticals has had heated debate with logical arguments from those for, and for those against allowing such practices to exist. I do not believe the marketing of the prescription medication to be solely unethical but more of as a shade of grey in between ethical and unethical moral standards dependent upon the actions of the individual pharmaceutical companies. Advertising to the general public can be ethical if the medication truly benefits those in society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This false sense of security held by the public at large leads the masses to believe in the complete truthfulness of drug advertisements which could and will lead many consumers to not do their research on a medication before seeking it out to get it prescribed. The other area of moral concern for many is in regards to the safety of the general public. The question being; is it safe for public health to allow pharmaceuticals to advertise and push new drugs directly to the public? The answer to this isn t clear, in May of 2011 the Congressional Budget Office released its study; Potential Effects of a Ban on Direct To Consumer Advertising of New Prescription Drugs. The study was inconclusive, it stated that a moratorium on direct to consumer advertising could benefit public health by providing more time for possible safety problems with some drugs to be uncovered, but could also harm public health by delaying the widespread adoption of useful new drugs (Procon.org). From an ethical standpoint this depends upon the company advertising the product. If they create a medicine to help relieve a certain ailment, as long as they disclose the facts, dangers, and risks of the drug, I believe that they are doing a public service because the advance in modern medicine can help society as a whole, but if a company produces a ... My head is going 1,000 miles a minute, my palms are as sweaty as if they were attached to an overweight kid running the mile during fat camp, and I m pretty sure I can feel the pools of sweat forming underneath my arms. Each step I take feels like it s heavier. The hallway to the parking garage is becoming longer and longer as we get (what is supposed to be) closer to the door. This cannot be that hard can it? Once he started college and moved away from his family, his mom started being a total bitch to him and nearly ostracized him from the other family members. She would purposely make family dinners that somehow had some sort of meat product inside of it and would always get into arguments with him (I actually witnessed one argument between the two over the phone). • 47. Vocation People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because they exel. Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is, living happily. This does not mean that the work/job I perform is not hard. Instead, it means, that I must find something that I enjoy doing, and find a career based around my interest. This concept is essentially vocation. Mick McCarthy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in civic responsibility ) and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the language to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired. In sum, McCarthy s discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction. His approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God. Spohn frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job seeker who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to have more meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps one seek the right vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one understand personal desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for seeking and choosing a path. An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction to a broader concern for justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they are strangers. ... • 48. Violent Screen Time On Children The Impact of Violent Screen Time on Children A ten year old boy stares at a television screen mashing buttons on a PlayStation controller as the sound of gunshots, bombs, and shouts fill his bedroom. While his parents say, It s keeping him out of trouble, they don t see the emotional problems violent video games are causing their son. In 2014, TIME Magazine reported that, Approximately 90% of children in the U.S. play video games, and more than 90% of those games involve mature content that often includes violence (Park). Even though many parents and caregivers don t see the harm in the violence shown in video games, television, and the internet, the effects of this exposure on children today is undeniable. Because children are being exposed to the harmful effects of violent screen time, they are more aggressive, more likely to engage in violent behavior, and desensitized to violence in general. When children play a lot of video games with adult content or watch television shows that include violent scenes, research has shown that they are more aggressive toward their classmates, friends, siblings, teachers, and even their own parents. They think that being mean and vicious, like they see on television and video games, is how they can act in real life. This aggressive behavior can result in bullying, physical and verbal. A recent study stated that, 60 percent of middle school boys and 40 percent of middle school girls who played at least one Mature rated (M rated) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every individual in society is guaranteed a certain amount of protection and equality from the state regardless of their situation or background. Depending on how the terms discrimination and equality are interpreted in the courts will those rights apply. As stated in section 15 (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection of the law without discrimination...... .1 The term discrimination here refers to all the forms of discrimination such as race, ethnicity, or any forms of disabilities. There are ways for the courts to prevent things such as trivial matters in courts through proper interpretation. There are two ways courts can interpret matters, there is the textual and contextual approach. In this situation, the approach would be more contextual as it would focus on the use of reason to interpret the law beyond what is in the statute and more based on societal factors.8 Societal factors refer to a person s economic, financial, educational, or a person s background. Some people in society have a low standing in all these factors, which would put them at a disadvantage and most laws reflect those needs. All these factors contribute to how the Andrews case and other issues could be used to support the inclusion of the terms social condition and social class within section 15 of the Charter. There are other elements that can support this such as the type of equality that is involved and how it relates to human dignity This case is significant in terms of this paper since the courts discussed some key principles concerning section 15. One of those principles claims that Section 15 is not, however, a general guarantee of equality: differential treatment does not necessarily result in inequality... .3 In most circumstances, this can be considered true as the Charter cannot provide protection for every single issue, otherwise people would go to ... Instead of their sickness, a high number of albinos in Africa are often tortured by people who do not comprehend about albinism. They treat albinos like just an animal or a product which is invaluable in the black market. Newman (2016) found that albinism is one of the genetic diseases that caused by a mutation gene.
