Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis
Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about
which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those
such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen
respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten.
On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as
neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share
quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his
appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the
positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says
encapsulates this more than his description of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe
the shop floor provided what school did not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re
constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that
were quick and preserved energy. (1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen
where he describes how by using our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally,
by working out the parts of the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by

Lovers stopped in time, unable to proceed to the lip...
Lovers stopped in time, unable to proceed to the lip locking trophy of affection. A simple four letter
word that has changed the world by its beauty and awe. What are these interesting pictures of words
and love? The Kiss, a dramatic scene unfolding before everyone created by Auguste Rodin, and
LOVE, the simplistic sucker punch created by Robert Indiana, are wonderful creations that have both
an impact and a meaning. These two sculptures have graced the art world with all their beauty leaving
some breathless. They mean so many different things with different imagining, reside in separate parts
of the world, but some sculptures are more well known. In this case LOVE is more Known.

means to you, your interpretation will probably not be what it means to him.
Then, everything with artful beauty is normally put out on display in museums for everyone to see,

the artist. Originally was a hit at its unveiling in its first exhibit in 1877 in Paris. It was originally
going to be a part of another sculpture The Gates of Hell , but later it got a full sized version in 1889.
It was shown at Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in 1889 for its first public appearance.
One year later, it was moved to Musée du Luxembourg, where it became no longer free to the public
due to its almost provocative nature. The Kiss only resided there for another eighteen years before
being hulled to its current home at Musée Rodin in Paris, France. Some pieces of work are flaunted in
open areas for all to see. LOVE is showcased in New York City

Essay On The Glass Menagerie
Tennessee Williams, an American playwright, his famous works are The Glass Menagerie and A
Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams creation of drama is directly related to own personal life
and experience. He has a sister Rose Williams she is diagnosed with schizophrenic. In The Glass
Menagerie it is talking about a memory play in the 1940s talking about Tom Wingfield in the 1930s,
Tom is the narrator and the major character in the book. The other three characters are Amanda the
mother, Laura sister of Tom, and Jim the gentleman caller. Laura in the book is like a reflection of
Rose; they both are disabled in some parts of their body. In The Glass Menagerie s, Laura is crippled
and in real life Rose has schizophrenic. As the book has been a classical collection of Tennessee
Williams a lot of people have read it from around the world by westerners and also easterners. The
context of the book is talking about the United States classic low class families. For easterners, they

In The Glass Menagerie, Amanda has an aggressive characterization, she is holding on to her son and

want to do and when the command is not done she turns upset. Back in the 1940s mom being
aggressive is a very common thing that happens, the adults take control over the family. But now days,
in the modern world children have more of their own opinions of what to do. Readers who are reading
back in the 1940s will think that Amanda is being a normal mom that is teaching their own children
what to do, for readers in the modern world Amanda would become a mom that cares too much for
their own children which will make them feel

Changing Nyc s Unemployment Rate
Changing NYC s Unemployment Rate New York City is one of the most populous cities in the world.
With the massive amount of people who call New York City home, there is a need for a vast amount of
job opportunities. Unemployment is one of the major problems that the people in New York City face.
Finding a job can be stressful and hard. In order to combat the increasing unemployment rate in New
York City, there needs to be more help for students in college, new federal programs that will create
new jobs, and lower taxes on businesses. Education is known as a pathway to many new job
opportunities, hence creating a need for a postsecondary degree in order to obtain employment. A high
school diploma is a prerequisite for many entry level jobs. There are numerous public schools in New
York City that offer twelve years of education free to students from all races, ethnicities, and
backgrounds. After one has graduated from public school, he or she may want to continue his or her
education and go on to college. A college degree opens the door to more job prospects than would a
high school degree. The federal and state governments offer students money based on students
financial need, but the cost of college does not just stop at the cost of tuition. Students have to pay for
room and board, transportation, textbooks and a multitude of other essentials to cover their everyday
needs. All of these costs add up and can discourage many students from going to college or force

The Roles And Responsibilities Of A Nurse
1. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in the acute care setting.
I. Urgency of acute care varies depending on the situation but can range to anything from emergency
surgeries, to injuries, chronic illnesses, and also for the recovery of those procedures. Majority of the
patients in acute care settings are critically ill. Nursing responsibilities in acute care settings are vital
to patient s recovery due to the front line position nurses play as well as the wide variety of tasks
carried out. Assessments are made during every encounter the nurse has with the patient along with
monitoring the patient s progress. Nurses are responsible for recognizing symptoms the patient may be
experiencing due to illness or injury and whether they fall in the spectrum of normal reactions. Vital
signs are measured routinely and can be indicators of the patient s current status. When vitals are
questioned diagnostic tests can be arranged to further assess possible comorbidities the patient may
have. Care plans are made to plan interventions the health care team can take to help patients through
challenges they face, both physical and mental. Nurses administer medications as well as first aid as
needed. They are responsible for maintaining special equipment patients may require including
monitors and ventilators are well.

The Symbolism Of A High End Luxury Brand
The typical impression someone leaves are often the first impression. Judgement based on appearance
is not a new concept. Scientifically proven, it takes a set amount of three seconds to determine the
type of impression the subject leaves. In those three seconds, appearance can be based on physical
looks and/or materialistic items. The symbolism of a high end luxury brand can imply the social
standing of a certain individual as well as their physical appearance. It is an invitation for society to
judge ones appearance and attitude, solely based upon what type of brand they wear and how they
look. In the concept of appearance, most people use their appearance as a tool to express their own
individualized style. With having individualized style, it works hand in hand with using fashion as a
way to identify ones social standing. As trends come and go, there are dedicated advocates of certain
styles. Those advocates might relate to that style by dressing in various different outfits that can be
jumbled up into a certain category. However, there are a few individuals that have certain looks that
sets them apart from the crowd. For example, in the mid 1960 s, British teenage model, Twiggy,
created a marketable style of an androgynous look consisting of large eyes, long eyelashes, and short
hair. That became her trademark and caused an uprising in her career as a significant pioneer in the
fashion industry. Her appearance created a whole new way of using a trademark as a way of

Internal Motivation In The Diary Of Anne Frank
The Holocaust is a big part of WWII. The Holocaust is a genocide, meaning killing a large group of
people. Many people went into hiding such as Anne Frank. In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, by
Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Anne and her family went into hiding to prevent being
deported. Dialogue is shown in Anne Frank by showing things like internal motivation, external
motivation, conflict, setting the temporarily state of action, and what the characters are drawing the
same characteristics to. In fact, dialogue is known to be noticed in its different categories such as
internal motivation. According to the text, Anne is longing for friends and people. She wants someone
young and understanding to talk to (Goodrich and Hackett p.167). Anne feels lonely in the Annex,
which causes Anne to want a friend her age to talk to her and understand. This is portraying the
emotion loneliness. This is a way of expressing how internal motivation is being used. Furthermore,
this shows that internal motivation can be used in dialogue in the play. In the Diary of Anne Frank,
this is a way of portraying dialogue being used. According to the text, Margot says of course I m
jealous...jealous that you ve got something to get up in the morning for... (Goodrich and Hackett
p170). To have internal motivation means to to have emotions. To explain, Margot is jealous of Anne
having something to look forward to something when Anne is awake. In this case, the emotion is
jealousy. This

Separation of Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll B, and Beta...
Abstract
Pigments extracted from different greens have different polarities and may be different colors. Mixed
pigments can be separated using chromatography paper. Chromatography paper is able to separate
mixed pigments due to their polarity and solubility. Pigments of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and beta
carotene will be separated on chromatography paper because each has its own polarity and solubility,
which results in different distance traveled up the paper. Beta carotene is non polar so it travels the
highest distance, followed by chlorophyll a. Chlorophyll b is the most polar; therefore, it travels the
shortest distance. The separated pigments on the chromatography paper can be eluted in acetone and

Job Description Of A Ceo
For somebody who plans on being a CEO one day, knows a CEO, or is wondering what the wages of a
CEO are, would be surprised to find out that the average pay of CEOs is $16,316,000. This number is
so high because of the numerous tasks that CEOs perform. The job description of a CEO means
meeting the needs of employees, customers, investors, communities, and the law. (Lafley, 2009) After
I read an article from the former CEO of Procter and Gamble, I understand why CEOs are stressed and
face so many difficulties everyday. Paying CEOs a large salary is understandable to a point, however,
paying them an average of $16,316,000 is way to high. Should CEOs be paid large salaries because

Should the average worker get paid more, or should CEO wages be decreased? We can find the results
to these questions by looking at many large companies and seeing how their CEOs are paid and by the
work they do.
$16,316,000 was the average pay of CEOs in 2015. (Kaplan, 2008) This number is way too high and
CEO s salaries should be decreased to help further other parts of the company. The success of a
company should be the company s top priority and they should not be putting such a large amount of
money into their CEO s salary. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook stated in an interview that,
Companies need to make sure the CEO is happy, however, giving them several million dollar bonuses
while the company is not doing to good, should not make the CEO happy because that means they are
not doing their job correctly. (Kirichenko, 3:41) Increasing the salary of the CEO may make them
work less hard because they know if they fail they will only go back to their original pay or receive
more money. Léo Apotheker was the CEO of Hewlett Packard and was fired because he failed to meet
the duties required as a CEO. When he got fired, he received $23 million for 11 months of work and
received $13 million in termination benefits. Kathy Kristof said in an interview that, we can see that
increasing the CEO s salary, like in the case with Apotheker, will not motivate them to work harder,
but rather to

Tim Winton The Turning Summary
Masculinity, the attributes applied to the male gender, has continuously manifested itself within the
matrices of literature, with many writers using narrative fiction as a vehicle to explore ideas of the
historical underpinnings of manhood, and more generally, alternative constructions of the male
ontology and modality. Transcendental notions of masculinity have inevitably constrained the
contemporary man within set ideologies and values those which often enforce unrealistic and toxic
expectations. This conundrum is especially relevant in Australian society given the stereotypical and
diffused archetype of the Aussie Man ; which characteristics such as apathy, nobility and strength
forming the bedrock of the national identity. Tim Winton, a prominent Australian author, has
recognised and highlighted this issue in his collection of short stories The Turning, effectively
challenging timeless stereotypes and portraying distinctive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Vic Lang, one of the central characters, is arguably most affected by the constraints society places on
gender succumbing to romanticised ideologies.
Hence, Winton utilises the character to represent the typical male, whilst also exploring the underbelly
of a conforming male s wellbeing. Vic is symbolic of the detrimental effects maladaptive masculinity
can have on a young boys development, as he exhibits emotional instability.
In Damaged Goods , his wife Gail explains that he, displaying that Vic has rehearsed the ideology of a
man s apathy and lack of emotion.
Although he is clearly troubled by his past and unable to let go of aspects of it, he remains rigid and
distance in adulthood. Vic s psychological fragility is thus often explained by female characters. Here,
Winton simultaneously provides an external perspective and challenges the lack of rapport and self
expression within the domains of

Social Work And Social Work
The Common and Separate Ground On the first page of Keith Lucas s, So You Want to be a Social
Worker he makes note of how Christianity and social work share a lot of the same values, because of
this the practice of social work can be viewed as a form of ministry. For example, most social workers,
no matter their religion believe that all people have worth, and see a great importance in the showing
of understanding and kindness towards them. Through my studies in APS 101, at Redeemer
University College, I have learned that social work was brought up by the Church; I never knew of
this relationship. This new knowledge makes me eager to learn more about the field, and the ways in
which I can use it to serve not only my neighbors, but God himself, through its missionary
characteristics. This text has shown me that my beliefs impact the way I see the world, the people in it,
and that my thoughts and actions are inevitably affected by them. As I move deeper into my studies, I
am learning the importance of this, and of bringing my whole self into whatever situations I face.
Societal values are constantly changing, but Christian values remain firm, as they are planted with
biblical roots (Keith Lucas, 1987, p.3).
Social Work and Christian Beliefs I now understand that the conflicting beliefs, under the blanket of
Christianity can be divided into three categories. The first are the primary beliefs, these are
foundational and include events, such as God creating the world and

Absolutist French Monarchs And The English Parliament
Absolutist French Monarchs and the English Parliament were two different political styles
implemented by two different countries in early modern Europe. Each government style was different
and the success it also varied. The French and English both had at least partial success, and
accomplished this with two very different ruling styles The English chose to govern through a style
known as monarchy. This system gave everyone a say in the government. English s governing body
consisted of a King, and Parliament. Parliament was represented by numerous people from various
backgrounds across the nation. The King, unlike in the past, did not have absolute power of the law;
the law was determined by the king in consultation with representatives of Parliament. Parliament also
oversaw other government affairs including the approving of taxes, passing laws, and handling
judicial business. Parliament also assisted the king whenever money needed to be raised for a new
cause, or advised during war and provided new military tactics. Through the leadership of the king and
guidance from parliament, England was able to modernize at a fast pace successfully. ... Show more

In this governing style, the King had absolute power of everything. There were 3 main government
positions: noble, ministers, and secretaries. All of these positions were hand picked by the king. The
king and these government officials ruled from the royal court; the location of central governmental
machinery, and the place where powerful subjects had offices for themselves and their clients. The
king had absolute power in everything including important things like formulation of foreign policy,
making of war, secular power against religious authority, and the levying of taxes. This made it hard
for new ideas to flow and led to a slower modernization

Stages Of Grief
Sooner or later, everyone will experience loss; it s an inevitable part of life. Whether it s losing a
relationship, a job, or even more tragic a loved one, no one can escape it. A very important part of
bearing with a loss is grieving. There are five stages in which grief can be categorized in: denial,
anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. In Seamus Heaney s Mid term Break , and the
narrator and his family bear with the loss of a loved one. In Sylvia Path s The Jailer the narrator goes
through the painful and significant loss of her marriage. In both poems the characters affected by the
loss of something important to them and go through the stages of grief differently, proving, that grief

The narrator starts his grieving path in denial. The narrator states I sat all morning in the college sick
bay giving the description of him sitting all morning in doing nothing at all (line 1). He was not
crying, he was not talking to anyone he just sat there staring into the air. Another detail that shows that
the narrator is in denial is when he states the ambulance arrived / with the corpse (14 15). It is a very
cold thing to say because it s his little brother in the ambulance not just a strange, and he just refers to
him as a corpse. Further explaining that he is in denial because he cannot believe it s his brother. The
father in the poem is one of the best examples of how everyone deals with grief in a different way. The
narrator explains that as soon as he got home he saw his father in tears and how strange it was for his
father to cry especially in funerals. The narrator then states, [My father] had always taken funerals in
his stride meaning that funerals never really bothered his father (5). The way the narrator s mother
reacts to the death of her four year old son, further supports the fact that everyone grieves differently.
When the narrator introduces his mother in the poem he states, [She] coughed out angry tearless sighs
(13). In the contrary from the narrator s father, the narrator s mother is not even shedding a tear.
Which makes it very obvious that her first step in grieving was

Non Meat Eating Lifestyle Can Be Difficult Essay
There has always been a negative remark towards people that choose not to eat meat. I have been a
pescartrain, a person that abstains from eating any meat except fish, for three years and most of the
time people tend to either assume that I want to lose weight or try to convince me that it is an
unhealthy lifestyle. They always say, you aren t getting enough protein , or one of my personal
favorites, so, you only eat salad? . As absurd as it sounds, I get asked this multiple times either from
people I just met and even my family. People often stereotype vegetarians as skinny and extremely fit;
however that is not the case. Adapting to non meat eating lifestyle can be difficult; however there are
many benefits. Even though many people assume vegetarians do not get enough protein, becoming a
vegetarian can decrease the chances of certain cancers and heart diseases.
The idea of abstaining from meat has been around for a long period of time. According to Claus
Leitzmann from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition it has been around since the sixth century
B.C. and originated from the Orphic mysteries followers. A greek philosopher by the name of
Pythagorean, and other influential persons promoted ethical vegetarianism until the 19th century. After
that it begin to fade away until it was reintroduced during the Renaissance Era and the Age of
Enlightenment. When people were informed of the benefits of becoming a vegetarian or vegan, a

Front Line Supervisors
In the profession of occupational safety and health, the conversational interpretation style would be
most common amongst front line supervisors. Though some regulations provide clearly defined
measurements, many regulations enforced by OSHA provide unspecified instructions for the front line
supervisors to comply with. For instance, 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii) states, The point of operation of
machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall
be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific
standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his
body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. In this case, what are the additional appropriate
standards? How specific does a standard need to be for consideration? Where is the designated danger
zone? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though similar to conversational, the constructive interpretation indicates the connection with
additional aspects. Undermining one s safety to spotlight additional areas can be highly dangerous and
even punishable. SeaWorld of Florida, LLC v. Thomas Perez, No. 12 1375 demonstrates a case where
entertaining a crowd, political view, received greater attention than the safety of the trainer. As defined
by Dr. Hayden, conversational interpretation allows the front line supervisor to interchange thoughts
with the law or expert to grasp the complete context of the legal situation. Therefore, front line
supervisors most commonly practicing conversational interpretation can more adequately protect the
given situation after acquiring a greater

Application Of Database Deployment For A Small Growing...
Unfortunately, different areas of the business got different pieces of technology to assist in that
growth, and those pieces did not interact with each other. This became a burden for the Chief
Financial and Technical Office, Luis Campuzano. Eventually, the company hired a third party
programmer to write a custom application that could interpret the data between the databases and
allow FileMaker Pro software to query all of them at once (Rainer, 2012). Crabby Bill s developed
different databases to manage the different types of data that they were using. They had databases for

This is also good security since you can easily just not give those people managing inventory access to
the financial database, whereas if they were stored in the same database, you would need to configure
special permissions on the data, again requiring someone with greater knowledge of information
systems than the typical business owner has. The problems for these multiple databases arise when
you realize that part of your financial information has to do with your inventory. Getting this data out
of one system and into another can be a daunting and time consuming task. This would likely require
someone to manually extract, reorganize, and import the data, just as it did in the case of Crabby Bill
s. This is expensive, as it requires someone s time to perform these actions. It is also time consuming
because the whole process could be automated. In addition to these business reasons, there also are
problems for the data itself. When keeping data in multiple databases you run into problems of data
redundancy, when information extracted from one database is imported into another, you are keeping
the same data repeatedly. This redundancy can also lead to inconsistencies, if the data is entered
incorrectly into one of your databases or changed by one party that only has access to it on a single
database and not on

Theme Of Capitalism In Life In The Iron Mills
Bianca Chirinos Professor Karafilis English 3600 November 3, 2017 Industrial Capitalism in Life in
the Iron Mills In the novella, Life in the Iron Mills, by Rebecca Harding Davis an extraordinary
compelling portrait is depicted of the 1830 s powerless and tired labor class. To further describe her
subject, Davis uses body markers such as: race, gender, and class identification and limited language
through her characters in order to shed light on the oppressive chains of industrial capitalism.
Influenced by the events going on around her during the American Civil War (1861 1865), Davis
focuses and addresses her short literary realism story towards the middle and upper class
entrepreneurs who were polluting the Industrial Revolution. As new mills and factories were being
established to only on produce profits, at the expense of lower class workers. Who, mostly consisted
of, unskilled peasants, immigrants, laborers, and farmers. Markers of class identification are inflected
in Davis literary realism story by two bodily markers: race/ethnicity and gender. The narrator of the
novella describes a notable difference in between the poor mill workers working for Kirby and John s
Mill versus the five powerful blue collared visitors. For example, Hugh Wolf s father, who is a Welsh
immigrant, works as puddler at the mill making iron. He has no option but to settle for a low social
paying job that in the long run will make the rich richer and the poor poorer. From which, he will only

with the issue of Steven A. Cohen, who is a billionaire trader and masterminded the greatest financial

story as discussed in the article starts with the issue when a medicine called bapineuzumab (Keefe)

worked his ways to get close to Dr. Sid Gilman, one of the doctors working on the production of

His negligence caused a lot of problem for the others. Many people who had invested funds in bapi
lost a lot of money due to Cohan shorting of Elan and Wyeth stock. After the major issue that was

Afterward, the company and Cohen separated their ways entirely. Despite this major issue that Cohen
has faced, he is still a very active member of the financial community, and considered as one of the
best hedge funds manager in the United States by many.
The significant finding from this article is that the world of finance is a very strange world. This world
can offer opportunities to many, and at the same time, it can prove to be a mess for the others. Many
people are not corrupt in their person, but by being negligent or by being careless, they fail at doing
their duty successfully at some points in time. However, what the article talks about is the complete
picture. Steven A Cohen faced a problem. He got entangled in an enormous financial mess.
However, not only did he face the charges, he tried to resolve the issues as positively as possible.
Because of his efforts, he could resume his career as a financial hedge funds expert very soon.
Usually, once a person faced such charges, his or her job is over. When it comes to Cohen, he
approached the problem in a very different way by hiding behind the

Analysis Of A Prayer For Owen Meany
In A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, John Wheelwright is the narrator of a memoir to Owen
Meany in which John relives his childhood with Owen Meany, and shows how his friendship with
Owen shaped who he was then and who he is now. John is my favorite character in the book mostly
because it s easy to feel bad for him. He experiences a ton of trauma in his childhood and still feels the
effects from it as an adult. He grows up not knowing who his father was, then he loses his mother and
his best friend. As a result, he is the character that attracts the most sympathy in the story. John

The first conflict John faces is the loss of his mother. Tabby s death both angers and upsets John. In
any case, losing your mother is a horrible. It was especially unfortunate for John because he has no
idea who his true father is. He is irritated that she never even got around to telling him who his real
father is. It even makes him more resentful when he finds out she lived sort of a second life as The
Lady in Red . The most tragic of John s experiences is the sacrificial death of Owen Meany. John is
absolutely traumatized by the death of Owen. Owen s death is the reason John lives in Canada, hates
America, and is stuck in the past. John still hasn t even come close to getting over Owen s death, and
he never will. John even ends his memoir with O God please give him back I shall keep asking You!

diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, illness, injury, and other mental impairments in human
beings. This system is based on Fuzzy Logic, adopting Mamdani model as the fuzzy inference
mechanism and list of medical diseases. With diseases like swine flu and dengue fever, chicken pox,
on the rise, which have symptoms, are so closely associated that it sometimes become practically
Herculean task to differentiate between the above scribed diseases based on symptoms. Thus, it
becomes inevitable to design such a system that would closely monitor the symptoms and infer the
disease based on fuzzy inference system. This work is done by assigning different coefficients to each
symptom of a disease and to predict and quantify the severity impact of the recognized disease. For
predicting, the cure time of a disease, based on the symptoms. Perdition of cure time is clinically
based on hypothetic studies and to estimate the cure time of a disease based on the symptoms. This

The controversy continues to rage.
Even after weeks if not months designing and installing a wireless LAN, it is inevitable that something
will go wrong and must be fixed. Troubleshooting is as much of an art than science. It is difficult to
strictly go by the theory and concept in identifying a problem because links between wireless devices
are invisible. Troubleshooting often involves a systematic approach along with a good sixth sense that
is honed by experience. It is important that support technicians and wireless network administrators
develop good wireless troubleshooting skills in order to keep a WLAN functioning smoothly.
First, however, exploring an often overlooked aspect of WLANs: the connection to the wired network.
Without the connection to the wired world, WLAN devices can only communicate among themselves
and are deprived of their full potential as network tools.

How Does Violence Affect Children Today
Violence affects many children in many different ways Elie experienced many things including being
violently forced into a ghetto, being forced into a cattle car with no food or water, being ripped away

A fact review sheet says that According to a national survey funded by the Federal Government almost
one quarter of young people in Australia (23.4%) have witnessed their father or stepfather s violence
against their mother or stepmother. This is all children know so they assume it is the right thing to do.
This violence can lead to serious mental issues. Because these kids are witnessing their parents beat
the other parent they assume that it is okay and they assume that they are allowed to do that to others
or allow others to do that to them. Not only do children witness the abuse of others but some children
are victims of abuse from others. The fact review sheet also says Children and young people are
present at 85 90% of domestic violence incidents and that in about 50% of those incidents the children
were directly harmed. The youth, in this case, tend to keep quiet and not say anything for fear of what
their abusers may do. Children, in this case, are both physically and mentally affected. They are
abused which leaves bruises other scars. They also have mental scars and some children in cases like
this aren t able to look at some people without the memories or fear. Still children today live in fear of

Steroid Use In Sports
I am against them having drugs in sports. This has been a big problem for awhile, and it causes the
body to gain more strength where it is injected. It s not fair when people use drugs in sports because
think about it if someone that isn t using the drug vs. someone that is, that isn t fair because the guy
using the drug would most likely win.
Also, a lot of smaller football players like to watch bigger people play and it wouldn t set a good
example for them and so they might try it. Also, drugs like steroids have a negative effect on long term
health because even though it helps you in the sport later it will come back and hurt you in the future.
Plus, it just ruins the fun and joy of the game because then people that are using the drug might

Female genital mutilation is a very disturbing act that we must eliminate; even if will have to pull this

female genital mutilation is a procedure that involve partial or total removal of the external female
genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non medical reasons. Sadly, this act is
recognized as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. In addition, as per World Health

Mies Van Der Rohe Concept Of Architecture
What is life? Exploring Mies van der Rohe s concept of architecture as a life process From his popular
motto less is more to his concept of architecture as the spatially apprehended will of the epoch , the
aphorisms of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886 1969) remain one of his most memorable legacies.
Despite being less well known, other such statements promoted by Mies are also important to clarify
the philosophy that sustained his works. This paper investigates one of these less known yet highly
revealing statements: Building art is only understandable as a life process . Considering the broader
context of Mies s discourse, philosophical readings, and architectural projects, this paper argues that
Mies used the term life process to refer to a larger changing reality that united the material and the
spiritual realms of life. According to Mies, the recognition of this material spiritual unity ... Show

O Brien and Fossie in The Things They Carried Essay
When many think of a great, memorable story, they will probably remember an inspirational or
coming of age novel, or Bildungsroman. In many ways, The Things They Carried is an exemplary
Bildungsroman as it carries the reader through the lives and problems of every soldier within its pages.
Each man is witnessed as he goes through his own maturation and personal times of struggle and
hardships. Some are focused on more than others, but each man has a story to tell, each a moral to
teach. Throughout The Things They Carried, both Tim O?Brien and Mark Fossie experience a
significant amount of personal maturation by gaining new knowledge about themselves, the Vietnam
War, and the world around them. There are very few times when a person goes ... Show more content

When O?Brien is shot and calls for Bobby Jorgenson to come to his aid, he realizes that Jorgenson is
too afraid to help his fellow soldiers out. O?Brien writes that he then felt a deep hatred for Jorgenson
and wants to get him back. On the brink of a maniacal outburst against the new medic, O?Brien
writes, ?I?d come to this war a quiet, thoughtful sort of person?, but after seven months in the bush I
realized that those high, civilized trappings had somehow been crushed under the weight of the simple
daily realities. I?d turned mean inside? (200). Here, O?Brien conveys to the reader that Vietnam had
taken over nearly his entire body and personality, causing him to transform into an unrelenting, savage
being. O?Brien learned that wars can change people, as the Vietnam War changed him. When Mark
Fossie realizes that Mary Anne, along with the six Green Berets, has gone off into the jungles the
previous night, he learns that the Vietnam War is a merciless trap that can take anybody or anything
and transform it into something unrecognizable. He learns that the war has the power to completely
change even somebody like his sweet girlfriend, Mary Anne. This insight causes Fossie to feel sorrow.
?The grief took (Fossie) by the throat and squeezed and would not let go? (105). Gaining common
knowledge is one thing, but learning about the world and its contents during a single time frame

impression that it s an easy field because it is assumed that all social workers do is serve others and

With a three year grant from tittle III of the Federal Older Americans act, The Circle Center first
opened doors to the older adult population in May of 1976 on 1605 monument avenue, Richmond,

The Circle Center has two social workers, Jay Burkhardt and Erin Brunette. I interviewed Erin
Burnette January 30, 2017 in her office at The Circle Center. When I first walked into her office, I
noticed how clean and neat it was which was surprising to me because I always imagined a social

human rights. From the looks of her room, I assumed that having pictures of her family in her helps
her keep stress at a minimum while at work. Erin Burnette, from Knoxville, Tennessee moved to
Richmond in 1999 to attend Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her master in
social work. Erin also has a master of divinity from Baptist Seminary at Richmond. With her master of

The Game at the Arena Essay
Standing here, in this arena that is one hundred times larger than my home, I feel like a needle in a
haystack. So many people surrounding me it s like I m one grain of sand in a whole ocean. The people
around the arena form a black and yellow checker board. Their clothing meshes together and looks
like a throw. Smelling the concession stand makes me feel like a starving child. The aroma of hotdogs
and Italian sausage reminds me of a back yard grill. The smell of melted cheese on nachos makes my
stomach growl wishing I had some. I can taste the pretzels as a man and child walk by me with one.

glare of the stadium lights. The field has a fresh mowed look, and the screens are bright as the North

hands on their chest and mouthing the words along with her. The mass of people standing in the arena

girls, as if they had won the game themselves. Few others scream and pout as they waddle down the

The Call and Engaging God’s World by Cornelius Plantinga...
After reading the books The Call and Engaging God s World I have learned a lot of information that
will be bringing me closer to God and his work and commitment to us, his followers here on earth.
The books were very informative and educational to a person gaining information on becoming a
Christian as well adding information to an existing Christian in faith. The books have many passages
that touch your heart and really make you think about your actions and words we have towards others
in today s times we live in. I feel there are many things we can learn in these books that were assigned
in this semesters books. It was a lot of work to read these books as well as maintain four classes, but I
am grateful for the opportunity to have been asked to read the books and gain the information I did
from doing so.
In the book The Call it states a number of questions people often ask themselves such as who am I?
Where do I belong? These are a few questions everyone has probably asked themselves once in their
lifetimes and to be honest it all reflects back to their relationship with God. If we have a good strong
relationship with God then can be secure in our decisions and relationships we pose throughout of
lives. As long as we have God there is no need to worry because he has a plan for us and knows what
is best for us and our lives at the current time.
Page thirteen states God alone needs nothing outside himself, because he himself is the highest and the
only lasting good.

Nike Tariffs
A government can set up any number of barriers including: tariffs, quotas, subsidies and standards.
Although most time Japan will be encouraging exports in areas where they do not particularly
specialize, it is up to the government to decide whether or not they will allow in exports.
Although there are many different types of trade barriers, the most common is a tariff. In effect tariffs
increase the price of imports, discourage their demand, and insulate domestic producers, to a degree,
from foreign competition. As a result, each country places higher tariffs on goods determined to be
import sensitive. This is precisely how Nike is affected when other countries impose tariffs. So

A Deconstructionist Critique of Chopin’s The Awakening Essay
A Deconstructionist Critique of Chopin s The Awakening
The multiplicity of meanings and (re)interpretations informing critical studies of The Awakening
reveal a novel ripe for deconstructionist critique. Just as Chopin evokes an image of the sea as
symbolic of Edna s shifting consciousness ( never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring,
inviting the soul to wander in abysses of solitude, 138), likewise the deconstructionist reading of a text
emphasizes fluidity over structure: A text consists of words inscribed in and inextricable from the
myriad discourses that inform it; from the point of view of deconstruction, the boundaries between
any given text and that larger text we call language are always shifting, (297). From this ... Show more

In her attempt to uncover the grain running against the grain in Chopin s novel, Patricia Yaeger
dismantles conventional approaches to The Awakening that regard the work as an emancipatory text
by virtue of its rebellious, adulterous heroine alone. Using Tony Tanner s analysis of Edna s infidelity
as belonging to the tradition of transgressive narratives, highlighted in his work, Adultery in the
Novel, Yaeger conversely emphasizes how Chopin s development of the romance plot between Edna
and Robert supports rather than subverts patriarchy. Although Edna credits Robert with [awakening]
me last summer out of a life long, stupid dream, her love for him interrupts rather than inspires her
awakening, for Edna has simply jumped from the shelter of Leonce s money and the social stability he
affords to the school girl fantasy of romantic love Robert represents. In each relationship, whether
financially or emotionally, Edna remains dependent upon a man, but more significantly, men exist as
the mirror through which Edna perceives herself. Without Robert, Edna forfeits the life she began to
construct for herself, as well as the burgeoning female subjectivity awakened the summer before.
Though Yaeger unveils the social acquiescence underlying the romance plot as distorting what most
scholars identify as Edna s social defiance, she unearths emancipatory strategies within Chopin s text
that prove far more

  • 2. Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten. On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says encapsulates this more than his description of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe the shop floor provided what school did not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy. (1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen where he describes how by using our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally, by working out the parts of the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by ... A simple four letter word that has changed the world by its beauty and awe. What are these interesting pictures of words and love? The Kiss, a dramatic scene unfolding before everyone created by Auguste Rodin, and LOVE, the simplistic sucker punch created by Robert Indiana, are wonderful creations that have both an impact and a meaning. These two sculptures have graced the art world with all their beauty leaving some breathless. They mean so many different things with different imagining, reside in separate parts of the world, but some sculptures are more well known. In this case LOVE is more Known. The colors of the piece of work are red and blue. A color pattern that is pleasing to the eye, but to Indiana shows an honor to his father who worked at a Phillips 66 gas station. The Kiss is memorialized in the Musée Rodin, a museum dedicated to the artist. Originally was a hit at its unveiling in its first exhibit in 1877 in Paris. It was originally going to be a part of another sculpture The Gates of Hell , but later it got a full sized version in 1889. It was shown at Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in 1889 for its first public appearance. One year later, it was moved to Musée du Luxembourg, where it became no longer free to the public due to its almost provocative nature. • 7. The Symbolism Of A High End Luxury Brand The typical impression someone leaves are often the first impression. Judgement based on appearance is not a new concept. Scientifically proven, it takes a set amount of three seconds to determine the type of impression the subject leaves. In those three seconds, appearance can be based on physical looks and/or materialistic items. The symbolism of a high end luxury brand can imply the social standing of a certain individual as well as their physical appearance. It is an invitation for society to judge ones appearance and attitude, solely based upon what type of brand they wear and how they look. In the concept of appearance, most people use their appearance as a tool to express their own individualized style. With having individualized style, it works hand in hand with using fashion as a way to identify ones social standing. As trends come and go, there are dedicated advocates of certain styles. Those advocates might relate to that style by dressing in various different outfits that can be jumbled up into a certain category. However, there are a few individuals that have certain looks that sets them apart from the crowd. For example, in the mid 1960 s, British teenage model, Twiggy, created a marketable style of an androgynous look consisting of large eyes, long eyelashes, and short hair. That became her trademark and caused an uprising in her career as a significant pioneer in the fashion industry. Her appearance created a whole new way of using a trademark as a way of ... Many people went into hiding such as Anne Frank. In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Anne and her family went into hiding to prevent being deported. Dialogue is shown in Anne Frank by showing things like internal motivation, external motivation, conflict, setting the temporarily state of action, and what the characters are drawing the same characteristics to. In fact, dialogue is known to be noticed in its different categories such as internal motivation. According to the text, Anne is longing for friends and people. She wants someone young and understanding to talk to (Goodrich and Hackett p.167). Anne feels lonely in the Annex, which causes Anne to want a friend her age to talk to her and understand. This is portraying the emotion loneliness. This is a way of expressing how internal motivation is being used. Furthermore, this shows that internal motivation can be used in dialogue in the play. In the Diary of Anne Frank, this is a way of portraying dialogue being used. According to the text, Margot says of course I m jealous...jealous that you ve got something to get up in the morning for... (Goodrich and Hackett p170). • 10. Job Description Of A Ceo For somebody who plans on being a CEO one day, knows a CEO, or is wondering what the wages of a CEO are, would be surprised to find out that the average pay of CEOs is $16,316,000. This number is so high because of the numerous tasks that CEOs perform. The job description of a CEO means meeting the needs of employees, customers, investors, communities, and the law. (Lafley, 2009) After I read an article from the former CEO of Procter and Gamble, I understand why CEOs are stressed and face so many difficulties everyday. Paying CEOs a large salary is understandable to a point, however, paying them an average of $16,316,000 is way to high. Should the average worker get paid more, or should CEO wages be decreased? We can find the results to these questions by looking at many large companies and seeing how their CEOs are paid and by the work they do. $16,316,000 was the average pay of CEOs in 2015. (Kaplan, 2008) This number is way too high and CEO s salaries should be decreased to help further other parts of the company. The success of a company should be the company s top priority and they should not be putting such a large amount of money into their CEO s salary. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook stated in an interview that, Companies need to make sure the CEO is happy, however, giving them several million dollar bonuses while the company is not doing to good, should not make the CEO happy because that means they are not doing their job correctly. (Kirichenko, 3:41) Increasing the salary of the CEO may make them work less hard because they know if they fail they will only go back to their original pay or receive more money. Léo Apotheker was the CEO of Hewlett Packard and was fired because he failed to meet the duties required as a CEO. When he got fired, he received $23 million for 11 months of work and received $13 million in termination benefits. Kathy Kristof said in an interview that, we can see that increasing the CEO s salary, like in the case with Apotheker, will not motivate them to work harder, but rather to ... Tim Winton The Turning Summary Masculinity, the attributes applied to the male gender, has continuously manifested itself within the matrices of literature, with many writers using narrative fiction as a vehicle to explore ideas of the historical underpinnings of manhood, and more generally, alternative constructions of the male ontology and modality. Transcendental notions of masculinity have inevitably constrained the contemporary man within set ideologies and values those which often enforce unrealistic and toxic expectations. This conundrum is especially relevant in Australian society given the stereotypical and diffused archetype of the Aussie Man ; which characteristics such as apathy, nobility and strength forming the bedrock of the national identity. Hence, Winton utilises the character to represent the typical male, whilst also exploring the underbelly of a conforming male s wellbeing. In Damaged Goods , his wife Gail explains that he, displaying that Vic has rehearsed the ideology of a man s apathy and lack of emotion. • 12. Social Work And Social Work The Common and Separate Ground On the first page of Keith Lucas s, So You Want to be a Social Worker he makes note of how Christianity and social work share a lot of the same values, because of this the practice of social work can be viewed as a form of ministry. For example, most social workers, no matter their religion believe that all people have worth, and see a great importance in the showing of understanding and kindness towards them. Through my studies in APS 101, at Redeemer University College, I have learned that social work was brought up by the Church; I never knew of this relationship. This new knowledge makes me eager to learn more about the field, and the ways in which I can use it to serve not only my neighbors, but God himself, through its missionary characteristics. This text has shown me that my beliefs impact the way I see the world, the people in it, and that my thoughts and actions are inevitably affected by them. As I move deeper into my studies, I am learning the importance of this, and of bringing my whole self into whatever situations I face. Societal values are constantly changing, but Christian values remain firm, as they are planted with biblical roots (Keith Lucas, 1987, p.3). Social Work and Christian Beliefs I now understand that the conflicting beliefs, under the blanket of Christianity can be divided into three categories. The first are the primary beliefs, these are foundational and include events, such as God creating the world and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The French and English both had at least partial success, and accomplished this with two very different ruling styles The English chose to govern through a style known as monarchy. This system gave everyone a say in the government. English s governing body consisted of a King, and Parliament. Parliament was represented by numerous people from various backgrounds across the nation. The King, unlike in the past, did not have absolute power of the law; the law was determined by the king in consultation with representatives of Parliament. Parliament also oversaw other government affairs including the approving of taxes, passing laws, and handling judicial business. Parliament also assisted the king whenever money needed to be raised for a new cause, or advised during war and provided new military tactics. Through the leadership of the king and guidance from parliament, England was able to modernize at a fast pace successfully. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator explains that as soon as he got home he saw his father in tears and how strange it was for his father to cry especially in funerals. The narrator then states, [My father] had always taken funerals in his stride meaning that funerals never really bothered his father (5). I have been a pescartrain, a person that abstains from eating any meat except fish, for three years and most of the time people tend to either assume that I want to lose weight or try to convince me that it is an unhealthy lifestyle. They always say, you aren t getting enough protein , or one of my personal favorites, so, you only eat salad? . As absurd as it sounds, I get asked this multiple times either from people I just met and even my family. People often stereotype vegetarians as skinny and extremely fit; however that is not the case. Adapting to non meat eating lifestyle can be difficult; however there are many benefits. Even though many people assume vegetarians do not get enough protein, becoming a vegetarian can decrease the chances of certain cancers and heart diseases. The idea of abstaining from meat has been around for a long period of time. According to Claus Leitzmann from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition it has been around since the sixth century B.C. and originated from the Orphic mysteries followers. Unfortunately, different areas of the business got different pieces of technology to assist in that growth, and those pieces did not interact with each other. This became a burden for the Chief Financial and Technical Office, Luis Campuzano. This is also good security since you can easily just not give those people managing inventory access to the financial database, whereas if they were stored in the same database, you would need to configure special permissions on the data, again requiring someone with greater knowledge of information systems than the typical business owner has. The problems for these multiple databases arise when you realize that part of your financial information has to do with your inventory. This would likely require someone to manually extract, reorganize, and import the data, just as it did in the case of Crabby Bill s. In addition to these business reasons, there also are problems for the data itself. When keeping data in multiple databases you run into problems of data redundancy, when information extracted from one database is imported into another, you are keeping the same data repeatedly. This redundancy can also lead to inconsistencies, if the data is entered incorrectly into one of your databases or changed by one party that only has access to it on a single database and not on ... Theme Of Capitalism In Life In The Iron Mills Bianca Chirinos Professor Karafilis English 3600 November 3, 2017 Industrial Capitalism in Life in the Iron Mills In the novella, Life in the Iron Mills, by Rebecca Harding Davis an extraordinary compelling portrait is depicted of the 1830 s powerless and tired labor class. To further describe her subject, Davis uses body markers such as: race, gender, and class identification and limited language through her characters in order to shed light on the oppressive chains of industrial capitalism. Influenced by the events going on around her during the American Civil War (1861 1865), Davis focuses and addresses her short literary realism story towards the middle and upper class entrepreneurs who were polluting the Industrial Revolution. As new mills and factories were being established to only on produce profits, at the expense of lower class workers. Who, mostly consisted of, unskilled peasants, immigrants, laborers, and farmers. Although most time Japan will be encouraging exports in areas where they do not particularly specialize, it is up to the government to decide whether or not they will allow in exports. As a result, each country places higher tariffs on goods determined to be import sensitive. This is precisely how Nike is affected when other countries impose tariffs. • 35. A Deconstructionist Critique of Chopin’s The Awakening Essay A Deconstructionist Critique of Chopin s The Awakening The multiplicity of meanings and (re)interpretations informing critical studies of The Awakening reveal a novel ripe for deconstructionist critique. Just as Chopin evokes an image of the sea as symbolic of Edna s shifting consciousness ( never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander in abysses of solitude, 138), likewise the deconstructionist reading of a text emphasizes fluidity over structure: A text consists of words inscribed in and inextricable from the myriad discourses that inform it; from the point of view of deconstruction, the boundaries between any given text and that larger text we call language are always shifting, (297). From this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her attempt to uncover the grain running against the grain in Chopin s novel, Patricia Yaeger dismantles conventional approaches to The Awakening that regard the work as an emancipatory text by virtue of its rebellious, adulterous heroine alone. Using Tony Tanner s analysis of Edna s infidelity as belonging to the tradition of transgressive narratives, highlighted in his work, Adultery in the Novel, Yaeger conversely emphasizes how Chopin s development of the romance plot between Edna and Robert supports rather than subverts patriarchy. Although Edna credits Robert with [awakening] me last summer out of a life long, stupid dream, her love for him interrupts rather than inspires her awakening, for Edna has simply jumped from the shelter of Leonce s money and the social stability he affords to the school girl fantasy of romantic love Robert represents. In each relationship, whether financially or emotionally, Edna remains dependent upon a man, but more significantly, men exist as the mirror through which Edna perceives herself. Without Robert, Edna forfeits the life she began to construct for herself, as well as the burgeoning female subjectivity awakened the summer before. Though Yaeger unveils the social acquiescence underlying the romance plot as distorting what most scholars identify as Edna s social defiance, she unearths emancipatory strategies within Chopin s text that prove far more ...
