Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) is caused by the consumption of the water soluble alkaloid
neurotoxin known as saxitoxin from shellfish (mussels, clams, cockles, oysters and scallops) from
waters contaminated by Algal blooms. The algal bloom that forms in the water has a fluorescent
greenish hue and contains dinoflagellates that produces these neurotoxins and is found in both the
temperate and tropical areas. Along with medications, the symptoms of may PSP resolve with the
excretion of the toxin. Patients are treated by providing them with respiratory support and fluid

Abstract Family Therapy can be implemented in a different ways in a program that provides a facet of

5. Goodnight Moon By Margaret Wise Brown
The author of my book is Margaret Wise Brown. She wrote the book Goodnight Moon. This book was
published September 3, 1947 about two years after World War Two ended. After World War Two
many wives were widowed and many children were fatherless. The book Goodnight Moon was
labeled as Contemporary Realistic Fiction, meaning it was believable and set in the modern world.
Margaret Wise Brown constantly experimented with writing children s literature. She tried new things
that many other authors did not try. For example, she tried making her books more relatable and more
like a child was living in a fantasy. What kept her motivated was trying to keep her target audience of
children hoping and to never give up on that hope, in her own words she says to write a book simple
enough ... to lift the child for a few moments from his own problems of shoelaces that won t tie and
busy parents ... into the timeless world of story. which is believed to be her motivator. While looking
for the deeper meaning or message I realized this books message was death and the loss or absence of
a parent.
The book Goodnight Moon takes both children and adults away from the real world. This helps the
readers understand her style of writing and children s literature. Goodnight Moon had a huge social
impact because of how it connected with its readers. It took kids and adults away from their problems
and took them to a world where everything seemed as if it was perfect. The idea of a perfect world

As a white person, you are allowed to have a sense of community. You are allowed to be part of a
community. You are also allowed to be a community leader, a pillar of the community, and an asset to
the community, but at no time will you be labeled as being from a white community. A white person
who goes on a killing spree will never be reported to have ties to the white community. Timothy
McVeigh, Dylann Roof, Eric Harris, and Jane Toppan; all murderers, all white and not of them
referred to as having ties to the white community. None of them have ties to the Baptist community,
the Catholic community or any community at all. None of these people reflect poorly on white people
all over the world and in a local community. None of them cause people on the street to see a white
person and think, OH, hey, there s a white person, I bet they are planning a mass murder. Most media
stations, when reporting on a violent act, carried out by someone with a status other than white, the
community that society assigns to them will most likely be discussed at great length. For example, the

Activity Correlation In addition to monitoring, activity correlation is an advanced feature among
DAMs that detects a possible threat by tracking transactions from particular users. If a user has an
unusually high amount of transactions or if a direct user has begun tampering with a database outside
of their domain, then an alert is automatically sent. All activity within a database is typically logged to
a repository, a common feature in a DAM solution. However, activity correlation goes beyond this
standard feature is to automatically archive activities, policies, and configurations and create a model
for normal database operations user by user. This correlation is vital to establishing what each user s
standard activity looks like so anomalies can be detected and met head on.
Policy Creation A common yet potent feature of an effective DAM tool is the ability to respond in real
time when an attack or threat is presented. While real time monitoring is a great solution, an even
better solution would be to prevent those attack from happening in the first place. This is where policy
creation comes in. Proactive DAM policies come in two forms. First, rule based policies govern the

10. The Values Of National Security And National Security
I believe that in order to protect national security , individuals must sacrifice some personal freedom.
Nowadays you cannot trust anyone, so you have to always be aware of your surroundings. They
restrict their activities, limit their travel, and often distrust their neighbors, thereby weakening
community bonds and support (Payne, p.59). People want to feel that they are secured and will do
anything to get that satisfaction. We all have to make some sacrifices, everyone has different beliefs
and if we were to all act on our beliefs, then we would most likely all be dead, because we might not
agree with what the person next to use is saying. When we book a flight and go through TSA, we are
all giving up a bit of our personal freedom. The TSA agents get to monitor our bags and our whole
bodies are scanned to make sure we are not concealing anything dangerous (Payne, p.59). If TSA did
not have to check everyone, then people would be able to get weapons into a plane and cause another
major attack like 9/11. When you are in the military you see combat. You may have been on missions
that exposed you to horrible and life threatening experiences. These types of events can lead to PTSD
(Class notes, Lecture 2). The soldiers that are protecting and defending national securities, give up
their whole freedom when on duty and even when they come back home. After they have served their
time, their freedom is is still gone, some feel like they are trapped. Most experience PTSD, which

11. Why Women s Women Have Been Repressed For A Long Period...
Why not Women?
Women have been repressed for a long period of history. Only recently have women started to gain
respect as equals and individuals. While women s rights have advanced in many ways in the past 50
years alone, it is obvious that there is a significant disconnect in the advancement of women in the
church. The promotion of gender equality is a slow and painful process, and has barely begun to
progress worldwide. Attitudes towards women as leaders in the church, and in religion in general, are
rooted in Biblical interpretations of women s involvement, not only in leadership in the church, but
also in marriage, society, and government. The role of gender in religion is one that is often ignored;
yet the issue should be addressed in that most religions, particularly Christianity and Catholicism,
place women in submissive roles. This encourages the gender gap in society as a whole.
Traditionally, Christianity has given men the position of authority in marriage, society, and
government. The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, and many conservative Protestant
denominations emphasize today that only men can be ordained as priests, clergy, and as deacons. Even
though women are not seen as traditional leaders in the church, the majority of Christians have
immense respect for women. After all, God chose a woman, Mary, to have the honor of giving birth to
Jesus, the Son of God. Historically, women have played very significant roles in religion. Nuns,

Often, for precaution, the trade was again written in the outercrust of the tablet so that no other
alterations could be made. Ancient Europe held an accounting system similar to that of the
Mesopotamian community. Here they used a form of papyrus, a paper material made from the stem of
a water plant, instead of the clay tablets that were much less plentiful in this area. Accountants in this
part of the western world were typically associated with a specific store or trade business, and were
evaluated extensively by an internal verification system within the corporation for which they were
accredited in order to implement a more detailed accounting transaction built upon honesty and
credibility of those calculating. While Egyptians made thousands of trades regarding gold and silver,
they referred to each as an exchange of goods rather than ascribing value to the item. This made the
calculating and recording different commodities in different credit terms very difficult. According to
public records, ancient Greece used accountants for personal monetary organization and to maintain
authority of governmental finances. It s systematic process equipped with leaders was evident in the

Our views of world conflicts such as war are influenced by the part of the world in which we live.
When exploring media coverage of discord, it is important to think about where the author is from and
how it has influenced the way he/she has portrayed disharmony. Reports on a world conflict can
express extremely different views depending on the social values and understandings of the writers.
One must read articles that address the issue of war with cultural relativism by taking into account the
local values and historical experiences of the writer. By neglecting this approach, a reader may be

The Palestinians were convinced that this was a deliberate murder. Three days later a young
Palestinian picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at an Israeli patrol. His friends followed

Palestinian intellectuals interpreted this action as an attempt of their youth to shake themselves free

generations Israel s domination of Jerusalem had gone largely unchallenged. The fighting continued
and the casualties that resulted were high. Most of the 1,300 deaths were Palestinians. In 1993 the
international community attempted to find a permanent solution by creating the Oslo agreement. Parts

15. Response To Plato s Apology
Plato s Apology is a written dialogue of Socrates and the court in which he is on trial. Socrates is
accused of corrupting the youth with his radical ideas about life as well as being impious and not
believing in the Gods. Throughout the dialogue, Socrates reveals that he has some strong opinions
regarding death and harm. In this paper, I will show that, based on the Apology, Socrates will agree
that Shelly has harmed Audrey and that Audrey would be wrong to fear her own death. I will also use
various parts of his dialogue on death and harm to support my thoughts as to why he would think that.
I will then conclude with my argument as to why I think Shelly has harmed Audrey.

In the Apology, he says, To fear death, gentlemen, is no other than to think oneself wise when one is
not, to think one knows what one does not know. No one knows whether death may not be the greatest
of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils. And surely it is
the most blameworthy ignorance to believe that one knows what one does not know, (Lines 29 a b).
Socrates is trying to say that in order to fear something, you must have some knowledge of what it is
like. As another example, Socrates may say something like if you have never gone swimming in a
pool, you should not fear a pool because you do not know what it is like . In his opinion death could
be a wonderful thing. In the quote above, Socrates says, No one knows whether death may not be the
greatest of all blessings for a man, (Lines 29 a b). His argument is that death could be even more
wonderful than life; it s just that people do not know about it enough. If Audrey were to fear death, she
would be claiming that she knows something about death and according to Socrates, only the superior
beings, whether they be Gods or man, know about death. She is also making an assumption that death
is something to be feared. So if Audrey fears death, she will no longer be virtuous because she will be
making assumptions about things of which she has no prior knowledge. That is, in Socrates eyes,

How Boarding Schools Came To Be In American history, many things have affected Native American
life and one of the biggest ones was boarding schools being created. Boarding schools may not seem
like a very big deal but has affected a large part of Native American life. In the time prior to these
schools being created, the American government s main issue was finding a place to move Native
Americans to, since their homelands were now under the control of the government. Eventually, the
tens of thousands of native americans were put onto designated lands called reservations and attended
boarding schools. Many Native Americans remember this time as nothing but abuse and desecration of
their culture. Boarding schools greatly affected and influenced the life of tens of thousands of native
americans during this time period but their lasting effects are still carried into today (Bear 2008). One
man in particular, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, who was an Indian activist, publicly recalls how he

17. Family Dynamics In The Metamorphosis
The Perils of Family Dynamics as it relates to The Metamorphosis
Pam (Lawson) Beaver
Belhaven University
Family Dynamics The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka represents the selfish views of family. Kafka
transforms Gregory, the son, into a dung beetle to show how members of the family evolve and adjust
due to life changing events. Traditionally, when families overcome hardships, a stronger bond is
formed between the members of the familial unit. In this story, Kafka takes the family on a journey of
life, one day wonderful and the next full of strife. Kafka s view as portrayed in The Metamorphosis is
that family, when faced with difficult change, sometimes transforms from a harmonious unit into its
selfish individual components. The first narcissistic is the parents and the expectation of Gregory to
provide. The first indication of self centeredness is the parents expectation that their son should
provide for the household. When his mother arrives at his bedroom door to remind him he has to go to
work, Gregory tried to get out of bed, realizing something has happened to him. Others in the home
become alarmed that he is not rising as expected, so first his father comes to check on him, then his
sister, who whispers Gregory, open the door, please (Kafka, 2006, p.1968). Kafka reveals the family
dynamics throughout the story and how each individual fits into the entity. Gregory s sister, in the
beginning, is concerned for his well being. However, she relies on him for her everyday needs, so her
self indulgent motives become clear. The mother, on the other hand, is bossy and distant. The father is
overbearing, depressed, and dependent on his son financially. The main concern of the familial body is
getting Gregory out the door and to work so that he can make a paycheck and the individuals can
continue in the roles each has absorbed. The second selfish observance is the way the family reacts
when Gregory becomes a burden, creating more work for them around the house. Even the hired maid
asks on bended knee to be discharged immediately (Kafka, 2006, p. 1979). Kafka is quick to change
the dynamics of the household designating chores and cooking to the mother and daughter, and
assigning the

Abstract
This report aims to analyse and discuss the results of carrying out tensile tests for two materials, in this
case Mild Steel and Nylon. The purpose of this is to use the information generated to calculate Young
s Modulus, Yield Stress, Tensile Strength, and Percentage Elongation. These properties must be
known before designing a product using the materials tested, because the anticipated behaviour of the
material must be suitable for the design specification, with a margin left for safety.
The test followed the standard procedure for tensile testing; force was applied to a specimen of known
dimensions, and the resulting extension was recorded, thus allowing a stress strain graph to be
19. generated. The bottom of the specimen was secured into the crosshead of a tensile test machine, and
the top secured to the load cell. An extensometer is placed on the specimen to measure extension. The
test is complete when the force applied by raising the load cell at a constant rate causes the specimen
to fail.

Two language children can inhibit their actions and thoughts due to practice of doing this through the

24. Emotions Are Perceptions Of Bodily Changes
In this essay I will support the non cognitive view that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes . I
will agree with the non cognitivist claim that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes by showing
the arguments for this position, as well as showing how non cognitivists are able to defend themselves
from cognitivists, thus further supporting their position. 1. The distinction between cognitivists and
non cognitivists I will start the essay by showing the distinction between cognitivist and non
cognitivist positions. Unlike cognitivists who suggest that emotions are forms of judgment [1], non
cognitivists like William James and Carl Lange think that emotions are the consequences of patterned
bodily changes and, hence, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Arguments for a non cognitivist position on emotions I will now show how non cognitivists can
support their position that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes , and how they are able to
answer to critiques posed by cognitivists. There are two studies which provide empirical evidence for
a non cognitivist account. 2.1 Damasio s 1994 study: emotions include internal bodily changes In his
1994 study, Damasio claims that emotions are not just general bodily changes, but they also include
internal changes like changes in hormonal levels. Damasio claims that emotions happen deep inside
the person s body and could occur on a very profound chemical level. For instance, when we feel
happy, the feeling of happiness would be a change in hormonal levels, e.g. an increase in the levels of
dopamine and serotonin. Hence, I think this study empitically supports the claim that emotions are
changes in hormonal levels or other similar internal bodily changes. 2.2 Critchley s 2001 study: people
with brain damage experience decreased emotional response In 2001, Critchley claimed that [p]eople
with brain damage that prevents them from accurately monitoring bodily changes report a diminution
of affective response. This means that, according to Critchley, when people s monitoring of their
bodily changes decreases, they suffer from deacresed emotional response. This could, arguably, show
that with diminuished bodily capacities, we experience

25. Beck Manufacturing Company Capacity And Proficiency
Beck Manufacturing Company Capacity and Proficiency
The Beck Manufacturing Company currently has five operational work stations, in which they
produce steering gears for many auto manufacturers. Operation work stations in place are for milling,
grinding, boring, drilling and assembly of parts. Within those operational departments the company
must determine the organization capacity inputs and outputs to satisfy their customer demands.
Capacity is a corporation s ability to deliver consumers goods, products or services in the volume
needed within the time period allotted. To accomplish these obligation organizations will need to
procure a physical location, working capital, skilled employees, and raw material for accomplishing
the anticipated level of productions in order to meet the consumers demand. In business capacity
planning is vital for the organization sustainability in an economical business environment,
Vonderembse, White (2013), notes that substantial capital is generally required to build a facilities and
for the procurement of equipment to build capacity. (ch. 8.1). For example if a manufacturers cannot
deliver the required quantity of goods to a vendor on time due to a shortage of inventory, then and
there to buyer may find another vendor and the business relationship can be severed.
But then again, the company does not want to have excess products sitting in inventory and capacity
without the demand from the consumers. Therefore, before estimating capacity as

26. How Music Should Be Too Much Power And Sway
Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Tidal, What do all of these have in common? They are all
currently leading the industry in streaming music from big name artists and even all the way down to
up and coming artists. Another similarity between these companies, is that they will all charge you
around $15 a month for their full service subscription. Unfortunately, these companies also have too
much power and sway which gives them the chance to charge these outrageous monthly prices. Here
at mYOUsic, we feel that customers shouldn t have to drain their bank account just to listen to their

In regards to the finances, our company will need a start up of approximately $220,000. This start up
funding is crucial in ensuring we hire the correct personnel to keep our business sustainable. Most
software engineers, have an average salary of around $100,000 which will be the bulk of our
expenses. After that, we just have to pay employee salaries which will be somewhere around $25,000
in that first year. Our long term goal is to allow our users, specifically the ones who will be uploading
their original works, the opportunity to copyright their music. We understand that in the early stages of
our business, we can expect to have a spectrum of music quality ranging from potential hits, all the
way to songs that are often overlooked or ignored. With that in mind, we know that we should push
off all copyrights until we have enough of a following, much like a Soundcloud or Spotify. We want to
hopefully bring in the concept of copyrighting into our 3 5 year plan. This idea will eliminate any
headaches from users having any potential complaints on the subject of copyrights. The human
resources we will need aside from the software engineer will have to be employees who take care of
the day to day operations in regards to user feedback, and ensuring that we

27. The Pros And Cons Of Influenza Vaccines
The problem explored into this essay is the Influenza (flu) vaccine and if it should be compulsory for
the students attending the International School of Amsterdam. Before going into details about the
vaccine itself it is key to understand what Influenza is. The flu is a virus. Viruses are parasite which
cause the infection and spread of diseases such as smallpox, chicken pox or in this case influenza1.
Viruses enter a body which will be their host for the remaining of time. They attach themselves to a
cell of the body and eventually with all the other cells leading to inevitable contamination of the
hosting body1. This event can occur due to the size of the virus, which is around 8 times smaller than
an E. Coli bacterium1. The virus of Influenza ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Vaccines contains a variety of ingredients that people could be allergic to. This excludes a whole
group of people from getting the vaccine. Some of this ingredients are aluminium salts, sugars, egg

some sides effects such as high fever, which happens in about 70%11 of children, eye infection,
infections in general, which happen in about 1 person per 667,00011 and usually the person has a
weaker immunitary system. In extreme cases it may lead to death (½ per million)11. The positive side
of vaccines, though, can t be replaced. It saves people from otherwise deadly illnesses such as
smallpox and tuberculosis10. When most of a community is immunised against a disease it creates
this effect called immunity herd 12 which helps protect the group of people which for any reason can t

George and Lennie have the same dream, to live in a ranch together one day and be self sufficient. In
Of Mice and Men, this dream is a common theme that is discussed between the two often. Lennie and
George discuss the plans together in chapter one while sitting on the river bank when George says
Someday we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres

is not just Lennie who makes the plans. Lennie then interrupts and yells excitedly, An live off the fatta

plans spoken through George s mouth. The dream is a common topic throughout the novel and once
again George tells Lennie about the dream and then he sits entranced with his own picture, (58).
George is filled with wonder and delight, just thinking about this dream that they share together. After
Lennie gets into a fight with Curley in the bunkhouse and injures Curley badly, the only thing he is
concerned about is his dream. He exclaims, I can still tend the rabbits, George? (65). One major part
of the dream that they share is that Lennie gets to tend to all the pet rabbits that they will have. Lennie

29. Modern-Day Adaptations of Shakespearian Plays
Adaptation is the process or state of changing to fit new circumstances or conditions, or the resulting
change (Encarta #174; World English Dictionary #169; 1999 Microsoft Corporation. All rights
reserved. Developed for Microsoft by Bloomsbury Publishing Plc.). When something adapts, or is
adapted, it retains the basic content of its former self while taking on new qualities. When a story is
adapted, either to a different medium than the one originally used or to a different time or place, the
adaptation shows a new interpretation of the story and gives insights into the mindset of the individual
that adapted it and the society that created that mind. Some of the most repeatedly adapted stories are
those of Shakespeare s plays. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the stolen objects is a victrola, along with a few records. The fairies float the records in the
water and put garlands around the flower horn of the victrola. A similar instance is when Puck comes
in contact with the bicycle. At first, he thinks this is some sort of animal that might attack him. Later,
the bicycle takes the place of the creature that he rode in the beginning of the film, and he rides it
around the world. The nobles represent an aristocracy that no longer exists today as it once did. In the
film, they are the people of the present. They are the ones that know how to use the modern
technology. All the young nobles are riding their bicycles around the film. At this time, they have it
made. But the future rests with the working class. Technology is available to everyone, even the
foolish lower class. It is the undoing of the nobles who no longer have something that everyone else
lacks. The replacement of the nobles for the fairies and the lower class for the nobles merely serves to
console us for the loss of what we no longer have. At the time of the film, the fairies are dying out.
They are now only seen at night in the woods. Soon they will be seen no more. With the loss of the
fairies comes the loss of magic. There is no more magic in the world. The film takes place in the late
1800s to be a bridge between the time of Shakespeare, the fairies, and the world of today, the

Social
Change in lifestyle
Acording to Euromonitor International data Obesity has become one of the buzzwords of the early
21st century. The statistics are indeed worrying, particularly in the Anglo Saxon world.
While many consumers are leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles and consuming a diet heavy in
calorie dense foods, a growing number are fighting back against the prevailing trend, participating
more in sports and unafraid to spend significant amounts of money in pursuit of their passion, which
for some has become something of a lifestyle accoutrement.
a growing number of middle aged men in this age group are participating in more intensive activities,
such as triathlon. This group of consumers also tends to have significant levels of discretionary
income, which is very useful in a sport where equipment must be purchased for three separate
disciplines (swimming, cycling and running). In the UK, some affluent middle aged men are opting
for high end road bikes, rather than cars. Children are now participating in organised sport almost as
soon as they walk on the basis that learning basic skills.
Identified social factors mean that demand for sporting equipment and services is likely to continue to
exhibit stellar rates of growth.

A Discussion of the Social Effects of Biotechnology
The world of work in agriculture is in a process of rapid change. While change is by no means alien to
agriculture, something new has entered the arena which promises and/or threatens to fundamentally
alter agricultural practices across the globe. Biotechnology has already begun to be implemented
resulting in what may be important shifts in not only agricultural production, but indeed changes in the
very makeup of agricultural products themselves. This promises to pose serious challenges and/or
opportunities to farmers across the globe. However, this may of course depend where it is particular

By 2000, robotics, will increase planting and harvesting efficiency. But the biggest change is the
revolution of genetic engineering. Already in hundreds of trials, gene manipulation in plants has
created variations able to withstand lethal environmental conditions and pestilence. Creating new
animal replicants is so near on the horizon, you can t get a clear missile shot at it. Moreover, although
the United States pioneered the biotech, other countries are hot on our heels. The implication of this
race is simply put by OTA s Michael Phillips: We ve been leaders in basic research, but adapting and
getting it to industry and marketplace has proved a stumbling block. And whoever gets to market first,
wins. (Omni, New York, Jan 1993)

The proponent s of today s genetic engineering movement say that they have brought [Rachel] Carson

genetic traits have been altered, heralding the birth of a brave new world for agriculture. Consider this

Suggested Initiatives:
1) Improve regulation and inspection procedures. In order to increase confidence in the government s
regulatory role in the economy, efforts should be made to: simplify government regulations and
inspections; systematize and unify the work of inspection agencies and the procedures for conducting
inspections; publicize clear and understandable information on inspections and the rights and duties of
inspection agencies, and make taxation bodies liable for unfounded verifications, or establish an
agency that registers inspections and limits the number of inspections. Many businessmen believe this
would discourage frequent inspections. 2) Unified business tax In order to keep businesses out of the
shadow economy, urgent measures are needed to reduce the taxation pressure and replace at least a
portion of multiple taxes with a unified business tax.
The high cost of doing business in Ukraine also relates to the key objective of inspection agencies
which is to extract the maximum amount of money from a company. In order to cope with this
problem, tax compliance should be simplified, and control by inspection agencies should be made
transparent. 3) Improve enforcement of conflict of interest legislation. Legislation that disallows
conflicts of interest is already in place. These laws prohibit officials

33. Russian Ballet Dance In The 17th And 18th Century
Poverty and other major problems involving constant combatant situations and invasions Russia faced
in the 17th and 18th centuries led to many adaptations of performance and arts which were centered
around dancing. Due to the exclusivity of proper ballet teachings from known academies many lower
class Russian citizens were innovative in the creation of their own ballet performances. Unlike the
higher social classes who found great significance to formality and the esteem which surrounded
Russian ballet, the lower class had their own take on ballet. Lower class Russian citizens adapted
ballet dances through their peers who had commonly been instructed from a handful of other
interpretations of the dance. (Schmidt, 1988). Because the Russian ballet academies were selective
and difficult to attend many versions of the ballet were formed based upon various interpretations of
the dance. Most commonly ballet dances which were performed by those who were not receiving
ballet direction from institutions were more inventive and lively than the serious demeanor of formal
performances of Russian Ballet.

differences has great prominence in the cultural identity of the country. ... Show more content on
