The Dangers Of Social Pressure
The Dangers of Relenting to Social Pressure
From early childhood to adulthood, the urge to submit to social pressure is a reality that shapes
everyone on a daily basis. The desire to meet societal expectations is a factor that greatly impacts
decision making from fashion sense, to choosing friends, and to making the right choices in the work
force. Many times, this desire for acceptance repudiates one s beliefs and innate senses. In Opinions
and Social Pressure by Solomon Asch, and Perils of Obedience by Stanley Milgram, the two
psychologists conduct a series of experiments to observe how the influence of social pressure leads to
conformity and obedience to authority. Both experiments demonstrate the adverse effects of social
pressure, for conformity involves a sacrifice of self interests, while blind obedience to authority results
in the harm of others. According to the results of the experiments, social pressure is a force that can
cause people to act outside of their personal convictions and moral conscience.
In Asch s experiment, he gathers a group of seven to nine male college students, to participate in a
psychological experiment in visual judgment experiment in order to observe the time it would take for
a subject to yield to social pressure (Asch 9). The group is told match the length of a line in
comparison to three other lines of differing lengths. Unbeknownst to the subject, the other members of
the group were instructed by the experimenter to beforehand

A Mouth Sweeter Than Salt Review
Toyin Falola s memoir, A Mouth Sweeter Than Salt, portrays one boy s views on the culture and
customs of his county from his perspective as an active participant as well as an observer. From
determining his mother s age to joining in the struggle to free an innocent man, Dr. Falola s journey
growing up in Nigeria embodies the rich, diverse history that defines Africa. The opening of the novel
places the reader not in Falola s shoes as a child, but rather as an adult scholar attempting to procure
information from his own family. This proves easier said than done as Falola takes us through the
process of obtaining specific dates in a society that deems them irrelevant. By examining the difficulty
that Falola has in this seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Education proves to be a major factor in this transition, as the newly educated class demands higher
standards of living and white collar jobs. Falola is able to give a face to the topics and issues that we
have been discussing in class. Little details such as how imported foods change the taste buds of
students and prepare them for a future that would enslave them in the global economy (Falola 145). As
a student who has eaten cafeteria food for many, many years this is a concept that I can identify with
and allows me to see the subtle ways in which the Western world has tainted traditional African
culture. Another major event, Pasitor s attempt to free Jakobu, leads the reader step by step through
the escalating corruption of the government and demonstrates how it directly affects the lives of the
citizens. However, while the reader can imagine what it looked like to live in Africa during these times
of change and hardship, the memoir does not give any indication of what it felt like. The lack of
emotional connections in the text was disappointing and it made it harder to connect on a personal
level with Falola s experiences. In this regard, the book failed to live up to my expectations. Falola s
memoir places the reader in the midst of historical and cultural events by viewing them through the
eyes of a young boy. This personal context allows the reader to better

Now a days, the measurement of power quality components and electrical protection are becoming
more complex and costly also. As the rate of different equipments used in modern building and
industries are getting costlier. So very efficient and low cost electrical panel system is required which
can give continuous monitoring and measurement of power and also it can protect the whole electrical
system. As LabVIEW being worlds number one virtual programming software, this type of electrical
panel can be designed which will not only show different parameters but will also protect the electrical
system. The main components which are essential to show on electrical panel are as follows:[1],[2],

younger sisters, Michèle and Brigitte. Saint Laurent did not have a easy childhood, in school he would
often be bullied by appearing to be a homosexual. This lead to him being a very nervous and would

Malcolm X s Philosophy Of Black Pride, Black Nationalism,...
The Autobiography of Malcolm X informs the reader about Malcolm X s philosophy of black pride,
black nationalism, and pan Africanism. There are a billion reasons to care when it comes to a book
about a human rights activist. I want to take a look at something more personal. There is always time
for change. Who would have thought that a little kid from the country who bounced around between
foster homes, detention centers, and jails would have done anything with his life? I might have
guessed that Malcolm X lived a life of crime until he died in a gunfight based on his history. That did
not happen. He changed. I can probably think of a million things that I want to change in my life.
Some of them probably seem impossible. That is okay. This book teaches me that there is time for me
to change my life as long as I am not dead. This little kid from Nebraska could do it and so can I.
Malcolm X only got six short years before his family was torn apart by the death of his father and the
nervous breakdown of his mother in the beginning. He and his siblings became wards of the state. He
started to dream of living in Boston when he met his half sister Ella. Malcolm went through all kinds
of transformations in the next stage of his life. He started out as a wide eyed country bumpkin, turned
into a big time dancer, became a drug dealer, and landed in jail. In 1948 Malcolm s brother Philbert
wrote to him that he had discovered the natural religion for the black man, also known as the

Taking a Look at the Gamble House
The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when
the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the
marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality
and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The
problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture
was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed
with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was
the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid
this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for
better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and
other household items.
The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style
or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy couple,
David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry Greene with
specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the concept of a total
work of art, which was the primary focus during the Arts and

Social Media And Social Networking Essay
If asked, would you be able to explain what the definition of social media is? Social media is the noun
used to define websites that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social
networking. Now you may wonder, what is the difference in social media and social networking?
Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one s business and/or social contacts by
making connections through individuals, often through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter,
Google+ and Instagram. (cite) | Statistics show that most children get introduced to cyberbullying
when they fully understand how to use the internet. The majority of children have admitted to
harassing or being bullied on a social media website from the age nine to eighteen. The gender of the
child also makes a difference according to some poles taken. Girls are more likely to spread rumors
through the virtual world, whereas; boys are more expected to comment and post antagonizing
pictures and videos. (good and interesting information to have but the transition from different social
media sites to the bullying paragraph is rapid and just thrown in there) Crazy to think but the birth of
social media was in 1997. The first social media site that everyone can agree actually was social media
was a website called Six Degrees. It was named after the six degrees of separation theory and lasted
from 1997 to 2001. Six degrees allowed users to create a profile and then friend other

The Reid Vs. Reid Essay
It may seem implausible that someone would confess to a crime they did not commit, but it does
happen, and the prevalence of such confessions occurs at a much higher rate in juvenile populations.
Aggressive interrogation methods, like those used in the Reid Technique, lead to a greater probability
of false confessions among juvenile subjects than if those techniques had not been used. In a study
completed by University of San Francisco law professor and renowned false confession researcher,
Richard Leo, 35% of the 125 proven false confession cases he sampled included confessors who were
under the age of 18 (2004). Before we examine what it is about this technique that prompts false
confessions, we must first outline the systematic, nine step process developed by John E. Reid
Associates nearly forty years ago.
The Reid Technique is the most widely adopted interrogation method used by branches of law
enforcement, the military, government entities, as well as private enterprises. To say that it is the
unchallenged gold standard would be an understatement, and understandably so. If the main goal of an
interrogation is to win a confession from the accused, then there is no greater tool. According to Reid s
own marketing propaganda, 95% Reid trained survey respondents indicated that their confession rate
improved when using the Reid Technique. More than half of them stated that their confession rate
increased by more than 25% and nearly a quarter of them said it increased by

The Dualists Essay
The infinite theoretical duel between the duality of our mind and body by philosophers has been one
that has been replete with a magnitude of different philosophical theories that try to posit our
existentiality. Consequently, these theorists try to find the answers to the causality of how the mind
and the brain truly interact: Are we our synapses, or are we something more than that? However, one
theory that has been of interest to many recent scientists and philosophers alike is one that has been
around since its conception by a famous mathematician and philosopher named Rene Descartes. This
theory is called substance dualism; and accordingly, this theory tries to solve the mystery of how these
two complex disparate entities can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, one theory that I find particularly helpful is one that is from the Cartesian dualistic
mentality; however, it branches of into its own direction and creates a plausible theory that I hope will
help open doors to many more answers to the mystery of our experiential existence. According to Dr.
Jeffrey M. Schwartz, Henry P. Stapp, and Mario Beauregard, who are researchers in the field of
neuroscience and quantum physics, the mind creates a causative effect through the brains neural
mechanism thus through material matter and this in turn creates an interaction. Consequently, these
interactions call it volition if you will affect the atoms, matter and molecules of our material existence.
Consequently, only through quantum physics can one know how these substances comingle with each
other to create a seamless interaction that can either have positive or negative consequences to our
existence. In philosophical terms, this theory also pertains to our experiential existence; thus, it has
implications for our day to day life (2). Classical physics mainly deals with formulas and sets of
equations that describe our world in macromolecular terms; however, quantum physics is concerned
with the more intimate aspects of casual

Selecting a Political Party Essay
There is one right given to americans that seems to stand for all of the rights and that is voting. The
right of voting is the right given to all Americans who are at least eighteen years old. Voting is the
foundation in which Americans can gain more rights. For most being American and voting is a big
deal. Most will say it s our constitutional right. Voting is knowing that the person or people that one
decides to choose represents him or her. The people who are voted into a office will ultimately be
making governmental decisions for Americans. These decisions represent and reflect the American
people whether they like them or not.
Nevertheless if one is voting he or she has to make a choice between what political party will best ...

Still, I did have to see the very options that democrats provided for Americans. Who were the faces of
democrats? Then I began to notice people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were the faces of a
democrat. Honestly, I took a liking to them; they didn t look like ones typical politician. They were
both minorities in their positions in government; Hillary a female who ran for president, Barack
Obama I man whose skin wasn t of the majority and is now president. Democrats seemed to be
making history and that caught my eye. The democrats seemed to be all full of new ideas and
movements it became apparent that they might be for me. But even so I needed to know what was
great about the other political party.
Republicans or people who believes in or supports the republic form of government, was the next
political party that I looked at. Subsequently, I had to take a look at the word republic, to understand
what it meant. According to Merriam Webster.com, it means a country that is governed by elected
representatives and by an elected leader (such as a president) rather than by a king or queen. After
reading that definition I began to think to myself what republicans stand for also has to do with the
American idea. Republicans had history with

Rhetorical Devices In The Aeneid
An ancient philosophy of classical Greece, in its most basic sense, Arete means excellence of any kind
, but more specifically to the culture of the period in which it originated meant the notion of
excellence and the fulfillment of one s purpose and/or function: in other words, the act of living up to
one s full potential .
Example: Aeneas, from the Aeneid, is an example of someone who possesses the foundational aspects
of the Arete philosophy. As a Trojan leader, Aeneas respects prophecy and attempts to incorporate the
idea of his own destiny into his actions, in spite of emotional impulses that conflict with his fated
duties. His ability to accept his destined path despite his unhappiness in doing so makes him a graceful
hero and a worthy recipient of the honor and favor the gods bestow upon him. His compassion for the
sufferings of others, even in conjunction with a single minded devotion to his duty, is another aspect
of his heroism. Sympathetic to the weariness of others on the journey, he delivers speeches to his fleet
to keep the men s spirits high.
Aristeia*
A scene in the rhetorical devices of epic poetry where a hero in battle has his most excellent and
glorified points. Aristeia can be the effect of the loss of life for the protagonist.

revenge, and the goddess endows him with superhuman strength and the extraordinary power to
discern gods on the field of

Comparing Mintz s Sweetness And Power
In Mintz s book, Sweetness and Power, we are introduced into the history, production, and
consumption of sugar. Sugar comes from two sources: sugar cane and beets (Class Notes October 6,
2016). In discussing the history of sugar, Mintz says, The sugar cane was first domesticated in New
Guinea [...] around 8000 B.C. (Mintz 2016: 19). Yet, sugar was not processed from sugar cane until
around five hundred years ago (Mintz 2016: 16). Once different culture and countries became aware
of processed sugar, it was a way for them to use sugar as opposed to different sweeteners. Being able
to use sugar as an alternative, required countries to start producing it. The labor force who would

Analysis of Setting and Characterization in Greasy Lake ...
In his short story Greasy Lake, the lake with the community teenagers create a stereotypical scene of
current youth pop culture. Many youth who read this story can find the ironic references and
similarities with their lifestyle in today s world. T. Coraghessan Boyle uses the setting of the story to
expose a world lacking self discipline and showing immorality amongst a community youth, which
can sometimes be rather common today. This also aids in creating an atmosphere that surrounds
suspense and impaired judgement to better develop the characters of the story. Boyle is able to achieve
this by creating a setting with the story of the Greasy Lake and describing the Lake as both a setting
and main character. Greasy Lake is described by the narrator as an aura of possessiveness and
suspense to the average reader. However, while somewhat stereotypical, the narrator and his friends
see the lake as the most ideal location to get together on late nights. This can be translated as the
beginning of setting a scene for a location in which the adolescent youth can meet, with the reference
to Bruce Springsteen s words from a song that opens the story: It s about a mile down on the dark side
of Route 88 (Boyle, 125). The words from the song create a scene of how the youth had essentially
treated the lake as their own place. The image is further made clear when the faint island in the middle
of the lake is described as a single ravaged island a hundred yards from

highly qualified and shows an exemplary set of skills. We are going to be looking externally for an
assistant manager who can bring in new ideas and perspectives that can make our company thrive
since many establishments that rely exclusively on network hiring tend to be small, less formalized,

The Bolshevik Of The Soviet Revolution
The Bolsheviks success in the 1917 October revolution, gave them full power under the leadership of
Vladimir Lenin. Their aim after successfully overthrowing the Russian autocracy was to create a
socialist state. His[Lenin s] view was that socialism should be a society where the working people
control their own fate, a society organized to benefit the vast majority. This view was the foundation
for Lenin s efforts in socialist construction. In order to create this society they; formed a new socialist
government; introduced the first stage of communism state capitalism; issued a decree on land as
promised in their manifesto and focused on industrialising and collectivising in order to facilitate a
socialist state. However, problems which may cause failure in the creation of a socialist state include
the civil war for slowing down progress, the introduction of the NEP (a revert back to capitalism?), the
need to consolidate power and the brutal use of the red army.
The Bolshevik s first protocol was to create a socialist government. Lenin began by replacing the
government of the capitalist class with the rule of the working people. This new socialist government
was compiled of mass organizations called Soviets, councils democratically elected by workers,
peasants and soldiers. One of the key functions of the socialist government, in Lenin s view, was
guaranteeing democracy for the working people. As opposed to a capitalist government which exists

The Heroic Women Of Othello

ENGL 211 Brit Lit: Middle Age 18th Century
5 December, 2015
The Heroic Women of Othello A hero is a man or woman distinguished by the performance of
courageous or noble actions (Oxford English Dictionary). In a male dominated society, such as the one
displayed in the play Othello, many of the heroic attributes of the female characters are overlooked,
and they are labeled as either weak or insignificant. However, some of the female roles within this
play are more important and heroic than their male counterparts. The particularly important women in
Othello are the characters Desdemona and Emilia. They are unlike each other in many ways, yet both
are equally strong in their own ways. While Desdemona remains silent and faithful in the face of
adversity, Emilia is outspoken and independent. While the male characters in this play use their
actions to express their dominance, the females use their wit and words to show their strength against
the men that try to oppress them. This play seeks to show the women as they are: strong, intelligent,
and important although they are mistreated by their male counterparts. Both women attribute heroic
attributes to the plot of the play and continue to influence their society even after death. The women of
Othello showed themselves to be the true protagonists of the play through their unending loyalty,
bravery in the face of opposition, and distinct personalities that complimented one another in order to

The Pros And Cons Of The Legalization Of Marijuana
Many policies have come to the governments attention within the past decade concerning drug use and
prison reform. One policy that correlates to crime and drug use that has brought attention across the
nation is the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana has been consumed in the United States for
numerous years and has grown in popularity culminating in multiple states legalizing the drug. There
is large debate concerning whether nationwide legalization is worth the cost. Of course, with any
controversial decision, there are always going to be pros and cons. Those who oppose legalization
make claims that marijuana is a gateway drug, impairs judgment, and is addictive. Although those
points are true to an extent there are also many benefits. Of the many benefits, the most noteworthy
ones are that marijuana can bring a lot of money to the government and economy, it helps treat
sickness and diseases, and it can be a safer alternative than opioid based medications. The legalization
of marijuana would also highly impact the criminal justice system by making law enforcement more
accessible to other areas where they are needed which can save the government a lot of money. In this
instance, legalizing marijuana would bring many benefits to society such as stimulating the economy,
treating sicknesses, providing government relief, and lowering opioid use. The economy is vital to this
country and the popularity of marijuana implies that growing this crop would be a strong contributor

The whole society that this film shows is painted in a negatively light purely because the main
character, Vincent, does not like how society is stopping him from pursuing his dreams. But even
though the main character does not like how society is formed does not mean that the movie cannot
show other sides to this issue. Gattaca shows only the con side of genetically engineering people, that
it s not unfair, not an accurate representation of people s abilities, and should not affect how people
live their lives and what career they have. But Gattaca does not show any of the positive side to
genetically engineering people, like how it could eliminating certain genetic diseases or certain birth
defects. And it could lower the child risk of other health factors. While I agree that genetically
engineering people is wrong but for me, I think it is wrong because that genetically engineering people
comes from a very ableist point of view. The film does not address how genetically engineering
people is very ableist and has a lot of problems with

The Dispersal Of Discipline
The dispersal of discipline in the UK via Anti Social Behaviour legislation In recent years the
Criminal Justice System has argued to reduce the prison population by incorporating punishment in
the community through use of anti social behaviour legislation (Gibbs, 2009). Behaviour once not
suitable for criminalisation has been dubbed anti social that may cause harassment, alarm or distress
(Home Office, 2003) which requires a form of punitive focus to prohibit risk to society, however the
definition is largely contested as being ambiguous (Doolin Child, 2011). Since the introduction of
Labour in 1997, collated evidence by people of a community has been a main priority in determining
the punishment of delinquent others to control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

DNP Project Proposal Development Week 4: Project Evaluation PICOT Question For graduate nurses,
does the use of high fidelity simulators compared to low fidelity simulators lead to better non
technical skills during emergency situation/code blue within ten weeks? 1. Sample The interest
population for the study comprises all graduate nurses working in a large health facility in the city. In
the clinical environment, nurses ensure continuity of patient care and are involved in various
emergency responses. Therefore, it is important that nurses have adequate primary emergency
response skills to enhance their clinical competence in managing the needs of patients. This study will
assess whether the use of high fidelity simulators compared to low fidelity simulators result in
graduate nurses with better non technical skills during emergencies. The researcher will choose a
representative sample of graduate nurses from the population to participate in the study. Based on the
study s inclusion criteria, the sample will comprise only male or female graduate nurses working in
various wards of the health facility. Notably, the study will exclude all registered nurses at the health
facility. The overall sample will comprise 40 graduate nurses. However, power analysis with G*Power
indicates that the study should use a sample of 128 graduate nurses. 2. Comparison The study will
implement an independent groups design to evaluate the differences in performance between graduate

Red Dog Australian Identity
Australian people and culture are often stereotyped in the media in different forms, one of them being
film. The two films being examined, Red dog (2011) and the Sapphires (2012), are an example of the
Australian identity but from different points of view. Red dog shows the kind and positive side which
exemplifies mateship and loyalty. The film Sapphires ,which takes place in the 1950 s through to the
1960 s, shows a negative and racist view towards the indigenous people. Both the films show different
aspects of the Australian identity, not all insights of the films accurately represent contemporary
Australian identity as the Australian identity has changed by the evolution of people and their lifestyle.
The film Red dog focuses on the life of a dog and how he affects the lives of those around him. ...

This is a person who is friendly, faithful and loyal and strives to find a solution in any tight situation.
This true blue persona is represented by several characters in the film Red dog including the dog
himself as he shows companionship and resilience throughout the film. The community working there
also represent the Australian identity by treating Red Dog like one of them even when Red Dog was
injured everyone was worried about him as if he was a human being. An addition to these themes Red
dog is set in the Australian outback were Australia is shown as dry dessert, a common misconception
which is inaccurate of Australian land. Today the majority of the Australian population live in cities
where they are close to their jobs and other facilities therefore this aspect of the film does not properly
represent contemporary Australian society. Although the notion of mateship and the virtues of the
characters in Red dog are accurate representations of the ideal version of the modern Australian
identity, the darker side of Australian culture and history is completely

Film is a Collaboration Masterpiece
The realization of a motion picture is an arduous collaborative process,
Which requires that a great among of people come together to in a synchronic manner to
Create the final product. In modern times media has made film to be seen as a glamorous profession,
and often the layman sees filmmakers and actors as people who make a lot of
Money, in a very easy manner. This could not be farther from the true; In fact the realization of a
single scene that will last from seconds to a few minutes on the screen, can take between 12 hours to
several days of the hard work of a large team of individuals.
Each of these individuals from the head producer down to the last of the extras are all equally
important for the success of every scene , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we think of filmmaking and how much has grown since the creation of Raging
Bull , and Apocalypses now , one can see how while technology have simplified some aspects of
filmmaking , the complexity of technology itself and the importance of a perfectly coordinated work
flow, has made collaboration now more than ever perhaps the most important element of filmmaking.
In a film like Avatar brand new technology was developed , and the film itself was created with 3
different screen methods in mind , regular 2D , real D 3D , and Imax 3D, each of these having their
own very specific requirements . This production incorporated a very large team whose collaboration
was the key to the success of the film. Not only in this case was the director require making his vision

Animator, the color corrector, and every one involved in the complex task from pre to post production

If we think of Woody Allen s films, they follow a very specific structure, hey are very distinct of Allen

The Relationship Between Aaron Burr And Alexander Hamilton
Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton had quite a difficult relationship. There were many instances
where the two were greatly opposing each other. Due to these instances and others in which Burr had
felt completely insulted by Hamilton, Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel in Weehawken, New Jersey.
At the Duel, Burr shot Hamilton in the stomach. Hamilton died the next day. Burr was never charged
for the murder of Hamilton, but some still consider Burr completely unjust in his actions of
challenging and killing Hamilton.
A man challenging another to a duel was not an uncommon event in Colonial America from the 17th
to the 19th century. Duels were only legal in certain areas and they had a strict set of rules outlined by
the Code Duello of 1777. In a duel, the men would meet along with their representatives, or seconds,
to decide on a weapon, which could include either a sword or a gun. Then, the group decided on the
distance of where they began. The man who was challenged was allowed to fire his weapon at the
other first, and then the man who initiated the duel was allowed to fire. Most often the intention of a
duel was not to kill a man, but to restore dignity after an insult; therefore, the participants often
purposely missed. One of the most famous of these duels was the one between Aaron Burr and
Alexander Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton was born in Nevis, an island in the West Indies. After
becoming an orphan, his ability to write was recognized by benefactors who paid

The Importance Of Gene Imprinting
Gene imprinting is an epigenetic phenomenon when two alleles of a certain gene are expressed at
different level depending on their parent of origin. Gene imprinting has been documented in mammals
and flowering plants. In the 1980s, biologists attention to imprinting has greatly increased due to the
recognition of its importance during mammalian development [1]. Imprinted genes regulate cell
growth, cell signaling, cell cycle regulation, and influence nutrient acquisition and fetus growth. In
mammals, many imprinted genes are found in the placenta and brain, which is consistent with growth
and neurodevelopmental defects observed in human imprinting disorders [2,3].
In addition to mammals, gene imprinting is also found in flowering plants. ... Show more content on

The angiosperms (flowering plants) are the most diverse group of land plants, with over 250,000
species [5]. Double fertilization is a unique feature distinguishing angiosperms from their seed plant
predecessors (gymnosperms). This feature might have provided angiosperms an evolutionary
advantage to become the dominant form of land plant life, although the selection force of this trait is
poorly understood.
Unlike animals that define all cell lineages during embryogenesis, plants are able to establish novel
cell fates throughout their entire life cycle, especially during sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction
in flowering plants comprises of a process divided into three phases: sporogenesis, gametogenesis and
embryo / endosperm genesis.
Sporogenesis is initiated in both male and female reproductive tissues. In ovule primordium, a
subepidermal nucellar cell differentiates into a megaspore mother cell (MMC), the MMC then
undergoes meiosis to form four haploid megaspores. Only one megaspore survives to become
functional megaspore (FM) and proceeds to gametogenesis, while the other three degenerate. In
stamen primordium, one subepidermal nucellar cell gives rise to a microspore or pollen mother cell
(PMC). The PMC then undergoes meiosis to form four haploid microspores which will continue to

Documentary Photography During The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era, documentary photography progressed into a form of communication.
Photography during this time was a way to tell the public a story. The progressive era was not only a
social movement but also a political reform. Many progressives exposed problems society faced such
as: poverty, child labor, violence, and political corruption. Documentary photography had many
important players during the Progressive Era. One of the most familiar is George Eastman and the
Kodak.
On July 12, 1854 George Eastman was born in Waterville, New York. According to the article, George

The History Of Bach And The Baroque Era
Transitioning from the Renaissance Era to Baroque Era introduced a new approach musical styles,
such as concerto and sonata. Coming from the Portuguese term barroco, or oddly shaped pearl , the
Baroque Era was heavily influenced with the Catholic Church from the early 1600s to the 1700s. The
Renaissance Era focuses on the exploration, discovery and rebirth; on the contrary, the Baroque Era
focuses on the Catholic Church and its exaggerated expressions. The Baroque Era came out with
European Western compositions that most of us are familiar with today, such as Pachelbel s Canon and
Vivaldi s Four Season. Along with the eras well known compositions, the Baroque Era also included
well known composers like Vivaldi and Handel. However, J.S. Bach is perhaps the greatest composer
of all times during the Baroque Era with famous pieces such as Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Mass
in B Minor and Brandenburg Concerto. J.S. Bach, short for Johann Sebastian Bach, is a prominent
composer during the Baroque Era. Bach was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany on March 31,
1685. He is the youngest son of his parents, Johann Ambrosius Bach and Elizabeth Lammerhirt Bach.
Because he came from seven generations of musicians, it was not unusual that Bach became a
musician and composer himself. In fact, Bach s father and brother are both church organist. Although
Bach is well known for his organ skills, his musical career did not start with an organ. In fact, it
started with violin lessons with

A Family Of Transcription Factors
Introduction
1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family
Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors
with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich
activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et
al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first
identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et
al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh
proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this
gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether
the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting
et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each
contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh
like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR
(BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4). This group of genes encodes
proteins with highly homologous DNA binding and dimerization domains. They all show restricted
expression pattern during embryogenesis and play important roles in organogenesis and epidermal

United States Presidential Election Analysis
The United States presidential election is one of the most important things that happens to us as U.S
citizens. We wait four years to see if our previous president has done the job we wanted him to do, and
if not, we get to elect a knew leader of our country. The President has a lot of influence on our country,
therefore we want to elect the best one for our nation. Thus, our founding fathers created the electoral
college. Designing the mode of selecting the President had to be one of the most difficult tasks that
confronted the framers. The difficulty in the legislative case lay in the fact that almost all delegates
knew exactly what they wanted, but different delegates wanted different things: small state delegates
wanted to preserve the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of the candidates were highly favored. Govenor of Texas George W. Bush and vice president Al
Gore watched as the results were coming in. Out of the 105,545,316 voters, it came down to just over
500,000 votes in favor of Gore (International, 2014)(don t know if should use). That statistically is a
difference of less than 1% of the people that voted. Gore had the popular vote, so he wins the election.
Many Americans thought that was the case, and unaware that the popular vote doesn t automatically
assume the presidency. Once the votes are counted, the electoral college is the final supreme step to
determine the president. The president of the United States of America is not truly elected by the
people, but by a group of 538 representatives known as the Electoral college. Every state has members
of the college, including anywhere from 3 to 55. The number of members is decided by the states
population, so yes, technically if you live in a small populated state you have less influence on who
the president will be. The members are typically local politicians of your state, and normally are
inclined to vote with the states popular vote. This type of electoral system creates a checks and
balance, similar to that of the federal branches of government in the United

Reentry and the American Prison System
With the dramatic increase in the prison population since the 1970 s, the number of people released
from prison has also seen a steady increase. In 2009, almost 730,000 people were released from state
and federal prisons, an increase of more than 20 percent since 2000. Those newly released are often
condemned by their time in prison and usually have to deal with a loss of social standing. The
transitioning process can present various challenges for them including but not limited to reconnecting
with family and peers, finding living arrangements and employment. This transitioning process is
better referred to as reentry. Reentry is the process in which individuals return to communities from
prison or jail custody, with the goal of reintegrating into society. In addition to feelings of fear, anxiety
and uncertainty, this process can be further complicated by the many indirect legal consequences of a
criminal conviction, sometimes called collateral consequences, which can inhibit an individual s
ability to reenter society.
Upon release, a majority of prisoners will not have anyone or anyplace to go home to. and housing is
one of the first most important commodities they ll require. A stable home can help build a solid
foundation, giving a place for communication as well as making it easier to seek employment. This is
also essential for maybe a parent wanting to reunite with their kids after being released. Finding such
housing can be a daunting task partly because of

  • 2. The Dangers Of Social Pressure The Dangers of Relenting to Social Pressure From early childhood to adulthood, the urge to submit to social pressure is a reality that shapes everyone on a daily basis. The desire to meet societal expectations is a factor that greatly impacts decision making from fashion sense, to choosing friends, and to making the right choices in the work force. Many times, this desire for acceptance repudiates one s beliefs and innate senses. In Opinions and Social Pressure by Solomon Asch, and Perils of Obedience by Stanley Milgram, the two psychologists conduct a series of experiments to observe how the influence of social pressure leads to conformity and obedience to authority. Both experiments demonstrate the adverse effects of social pressure, for conformity involves a sacrifice of self interests, while blind obedience to authority results in the harm of others. According to the results of the experiments, social pressure is a force that can cause people to act outside of their personal convictions and moral conscience. In Asch s experiment, he gathers a group of seven to nine male college students, to participate in a psychological experiment in visual judgment experiment in order to observe the time it would take for a subject to yield to social pressure (Asch 9). The group is told match the length of a line in comparison to three other lines of differing lengths. Unbeknownst to the subject, the other members of the group were instructed by the experimenter to beforehand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Mouth Sweeter Than Salt Review Toyin Falola s memoir, A Mouth Sweeter Than Salt, portrays one boy s views on the culture and customs of his county from his perspective as an active participant as well as an observer. From determining his mother s age to joining in the struggle to free an innocent man, Dr. Falola s journey growing up in Nigeria embodies the rich, diverse history that defines Africa. The opening of the novel places the reader not in Falola s shoes as a child, but rather as an adult scholar attempting to procure information from his own family. This proves easier said than done as Falola takes us through the process of obtaining specific dates in a society that deems them irrelevant. By examining the difficulty that Falola has in this seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Education proves to be a major factor in this transition, as the newly educated class demands higher standards of living and white collar jobs. Falola is able to give a face to the topics and issues that we have been discussing in class. Little details such as how imported foods change the taste buds of students and prepare them for a future that would enslave them in the global economy (Falola 145). As a student who has eaten cafeteria food for many, many years this is a concept that I can identify with and allows me to see the subtle ways in which the Western world has tainted traditional African culture. Another major event, Pasitor s attempt to free Jakobu, leads the reader step by step through the escalating corruption of the government and demonstrates how it directly affects the lives of the citizens. However, while the reader can imagine what it looked like to live in Africa during these times of change and hardship, the memoir does not give any indication of what it felt like. The lack of emotional connections in the text was disappointing and it made it harder to connect on a personal level with Falola s experiences. In this regard, the book failed to live up to my expectations. Falola s memoir places the reader in the midst of historical and cultural events by viewing them through the eyes of a young boy. This personal context allows the reader to better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Malcolm X s Philosophy Of Black Pride, Black Nationalism,... The Autobiography of Malcolm X informs the reader about Malcolm X s philosophy of black pride, black nationalism, and pan Africanism. There are a billion reasons to care when it comes to a book about a human rights activist. I want to take a look at something more personal. There is always time for change. Who would have thought that a little kid from the country who bounced around between foster homes, detention centers, and jails would have done anything with his life? I might have guessed that Malcolm X lived a life of crime until he died in a gunfight based on his history. That did not happen. He changed. I can probably think of a million things that I want to change in my life. Some of them probably seem impossible. That is okay. This book teaches me that there is time for me to change my life as long as I am not dead. This little kid from Nebraska could do it and so can I. Malcolm X only got six short years before his family was torn apart by the death of his father and the nervous breakdown of his mother in the beginning. He and his siblings became wards of the state. He started to dream of living in Boston when he met his half sister Ella. Malcolm went through all kinds of transformations in the next stage of his life. He started out as a wide eyed country bumpkin, turned into a big time dancer, became a drug dealer, and landed in jail. In 1948 Malcolm s brother Philbert wrote to him that he had discovered the natural religion for the black man, also known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Taking a Look at the Gamble House The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items. The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy couple, David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry Greene with specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the concept of a total work of art, which was the primary focus during the Arts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Social Media And Social Networking Essay If asked, would you be able to explain what the definition of social media is? Social media is the noun used to define websites that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Now you may wonder, what is the difference in social media and social networking? Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one s business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals, often through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram. (cite) | Statistics show that most children get introduced to cyberbullying when they fully understand how to use the internet. The majority of children have admitted to harassing or being bullied on a social media website from the age nine to eighteen. The gender of the child also makes a difference according to some poles taken. Girls are more likely to spread rumors through the virtual world, whereas; boys are more expected to comment and post antagonizing pictures and videos. (good and interesting information to have but the transition from different social media sites to the bullying paragraph is rapid and just thrown in there) Crazy to think but the birth of social media was in 1997. The first social media site that everyone can agree actually was social media was a website called Six Degrees. It was named after the six degrees of separation theory and lasted from 1997 to 2001. Six degrees allowed users to create a profile and then friend other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Reid Vs. Reid Essay It may seem implausible that someone would confess to a crime they did not commit, but it does happen, and the prevalence of such confessions occurs at a much higher rate in juvenile populations. Aggressive interrogation methods, like those used in the Reid Technique, lead to a greater probability of false confessions among juvenile subjects than if those techniques had not been used. In a study completed by University of San Francisco law professor and renowned false confession researcher, Richard Leo, 35% of the 125 proven false confession cases he sampled included confessors who were under the age of 18 (2004). Before we examine what it is about this technique that prompts false confessions, we must first outline the systematic, nine step process developed by John E. Reid Associates nearly forty years ago. The Reid Technique is the most widely adopted interrogation method used by branches of law enforcement, the military, government entities, as well as private enterprises. To say that it is the unchallenged gold standard would be an understatement, and understandably so. If the main goal of an interrogation is to win a confession from the accused, then there is no greater tool. According to Reid s own marketing propaganda, 95% Reid trained survey respondents indicated that their confession rate improved when using the Reid Technique. More than half of them stated that their confession rate increased by more than 25% and nearly a quarter of them said it increased by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Dualists Essay The infinite theoretical duel between the duality of our mind and body by philosophers has been one that has been replete with a magnitude of different philosophical theories that try to posit our existentiality. Consequently, these theorists try to find the answers to the causality of how the mind and the brain truly interact: Are we our synapses, or are we something more than that? However, one theory that has been of interest to many recent scientists and philosophers alike is one that has been around since its conception by a famous mathematician and philosopher named Rene Descartes. This theory is called substance dualism; and accordingly, this theory tries to solve the mystery of how these two complex disparate entities can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, one theory that I find particularly helpful is one that is from the Cartesian dualistic mentality; however, it branches of into its own direction and creates a plausible theory that I hope will help open doors to many more answers to the mystery of our experiential existence. According to Dr. Jeffrey M. Schwartz, Henry P. Stapp, and Mario Beauregard, who are researchers in the field of neuroscience and quantum physics, the mind creates a causative effect through the brains neural mechanism thus through material matter and this in turn creates an interaction. Consequently, these interactions call it volition if you will affect the atoms, matter and molecules of our material existence. Consequently, only through quantum physics can one know how these substances comingle with each other to create a seamless interaction that can either have positive or negative consequences to our existence. In philosophical terms, this theory also pertains to our experiential existence; thus, it has implications for our day to day life (2). Classical physics mainly deals with formulas and sets of equations that describe our world in macromolecular terms; however, quantum physics is concerned with the more intimate aspects of casual ... The right of voting is the right given to all Americans who are at least eighteen years old. Voting is the foundation in which Americans can gain more rights. For most being American and voting is a big deal. Most will say it s our constitutional right. Voting is knowing that the person or people that one decides to choose represents him or her. They were both minorities in their positions in government; Hillary a female who ran for president, Barack Obama I man whose skin wasn t of the majority and is now president. Democrats seemed to be making history and that caught my eye. The democrats seemed to be all full of new ideas and movements it became apparent that they might be for me. But even so I needed to know what was great about the other political party. Republicans or people who believes in or supports the republic form of government, was the next political party that I looked at. Subsequently, I had to take a look at the word republic, to understand what it meant. According to Merriam Webster.com, it means a country that is governed by elected representatives and by an elected leader (such as a president) rather than by a king or queen. After reading that definition I began to think to myself what republicans stand for also has to do with the American idea. Republicans had history with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Devices In The Aeneid An ancient philosophy of classical Greece, in its most basic sense, Arete means excellence of any kind , but more specifically to the culture of the period in which it originated meant the notion of excellence and the fulfillment of one s purpose and/or function: in other words, the act of living up to one s full potential . Example: Aeneas, from the Aeneid, is an example of someone who possesses the foundational aspects of the Arete philosophy. As a Trojan leader, Aeneas respects prophecy and attempts to incorporate the idea of his own destiny into his actions, in spite of emotional impulses that conflict with his fated duties. His ability to accept his destined path despite his unhappiness in doing so makes him a graceful hero and a worthy recipient of the honor and favor the gods bestow upon him. His compassion for the sufferings of others, even in conjunction with a single minded devotion to his duty, is another aspect of his heroism. Sympathetic to the weariness of others on the journey, he delivers speeches to his fleet to keep the men s spirits high. • 14. Analysis of Setting and Characterization in Greasy Lake ... In his short story Greasy Lake, the lake with the community teenagers create a stereotypical scene of current youth pop culture. Many youth who read this story can find the ironic references and similarities with their lifestyle in today s world. T. Coraghessan Boyle uses the setting of the story to expose a world lacking self discipline and showing immorality amongst a community youth, which can sometimes be rather common today. This also aids in creating an atmosphere that surrounds suspense and impaired judgement to better develop the characters of the story. Boyle is able to achieve this by creating a setting with the story of the Greasy Lake and describing the Lake as both a setting and main character. Greasy Lake is described by the narrator as an aura of possessiveness and suspense to the average reader. However, while somewhat stereotypical, the narrator and his friends see the lake as the most ideal location to get together on late nights. This can be translated as the beginning of setting a scene for a location in which the adolescent youth can meet, with the reference to Bruce Springsteen s words from a song that opens the story: It s about a mile down on the dark side of Route 88 (Boyle, 125). The words from the song create a scene of how the youth had essentially treated the lake as their own place. The image is further made clear when the faint island in the middle of the lake is described as a single ravaged island a hundred yards from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their aim after successfully overthrowing the Russian autocracy was to create a socialist state. His[Lenin s] view was that socialism should be a society where the working people control their own fate, a society organized to benefit the vast majority. This view was the foundation for Lenin s efforts in socialist construction. In order to create this society they; formed a new socialist government; introduced the first stage of communism state capitalism; issued a decree on land as promised in their manifesto and focused on industrialising and collectivising in order to facilitate a socialist state. However, problems which may cause failure in the creation of a socialist state include the civil war for slowing down progress, the introduction of the NEP (a revert back to capitalism?), the need to consolidate power and the brutal use of the red army. The Bolshevik s first protocol was to create a socialist government. Lenin began by replacing the government of the capitalist class with the rule of the working people. This new socialist government was compiled of mass organizations called Soviets, councils democratically elected by workers, peasants and soldiers. In a male dominated society, such as the one displayed in the play Othello, many of the heroic attributes of the female characters are overlooked, and they are labeled as either weak or insignificant. However, some of the female roles within this play are more important and heroic than their male counterparts. The particularly important women in Othello are the characters Desdemona and Emilia. They are unlike each other in many ways, yet both are equally strong in their own ways. While Desdemona remains silent and faithful in the face of adversity, Emilia is outspoken and independent. While the male characters in this play use their actions to express their dominance, the females use their wit and words to show their strength against the men that try to oppress them. This play seeks to show the women as they are: strong, intelligent, and important although they are mistreated by their male counterparts. Both women attribute heroic attributes to the plot of the play and continue to influence their society even after death. The women of Othello showed themselves to be the true protagonists of the play through their unending loyalty, bravery in the face of opposition, and distinct personalities that complimented one another in order to ... There is large debate concerning whether nationwide legalization is worth the cost. Of course, with any controversial decision, there are always going to be pros and cons. Those who oppose legalization make claims that marijuana is a gateway drug, impairs judgment, and is addictive. Although those points are true to an extent there are also many benefits. Of the many benefits, the most noteworthy ones are that marijuana can bring a lot of money to the government and economy, it helps treat sickness and diseases, and it can be a safer alternative than opioid based medications. The legalization of marijuana would also highly impact the criminal justice system by making law enforcement more accessible to other areas where they are needed which can save the government a lot of money. There were many instances where the two were greatly opposing each other. Due to these instances and others in which Burr had felt completely insulted by Hamilton, Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel in Weehawken, New Jersey. At the Duel, Burr shot Hamilton in the stomach. Hamilton died the next day. Burr was never charged for the murder of Hamilton, but some still consider Burr completely unjust in his actions of challenging and killing Hamilton. A man challenging another to a duel was not an uncommon event in Colonial America from the 17th to the 19th century. Duels were only legal in certain areas and they had a strict set of rules outlined by the Code Duello of 1777. In a duel, the men would meet along with their representatives, or seconds, to decide on a weapon, which could include either a sword or a gun. Then, the group decided on the distance of where they began. The man who was challenged was allowed to fire his weapon at the other first, and then the man who initiated the duel was allowed to fire. Most often the intention of a duel was not to kill a man, but to restore dignity after an insult; therefore, the participants often purposely missed. Imprinted genes regulate cell growth, cell signaling, cell cycle regulation, and influence nutrient acquisition and fetus growth. The angiosperms (flowering plants) are the most diverse group of land plants, with over 250,000 species [5]. Double fertilization is a unique feature distinguishing angiosperms from their seed plant predecessors (gymnosperms). This feature might have provided angiosperms an evolutionary advantage to become the dominant form of land plant life, although the selection force of this trait is poorly understood. Unlike animals that define all cell lineages during embryogenesis, plants are able to establish novel cell fates throughout their entire life cycle, especially during sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction in flowering plants comprises of a process divided into three phases: sporogenesis, gametogenesis and embryo / endosperm genesis. Sporogenesis is initiated in both male and female reproductive tissues. In ovule primordium, a subepidermal nucellar cell differentiates into a megaspore mother cell (MMC), the MMC then undergoes meiosis to form four haploid megaspores. Coming from the Portuguese term barroco, or oddly shaped pearl , the Baroque Era was heavily influenced with the Catholic Church from the early 1600s to the 1700s. The Renaissance Era focuses on the exploration, discovery and rebirth; on the contrary, the Baroque Era focuses on the Catholic Church and its exaggerated expressions. The Baroque Era came out with European Western compositions that most of us are familiar with today, such as Pachelbel s Canon and Vivaldi s Four Season. • 32. A Family Of Transcription Factors Introduction 1. The Grainyhead (Grh) gene family Grainyhead (Grh) genes are conserved in metazoans. They encode a family of transcription factors with a unique, unusually large, DNA binding and dimerization domain, and an isoleucine rich activation domain(Attardi and Tjian, 1993; Gustavsson et al., 2008; Moussian and Uv, 2005; Ting et al., 2003b; Uv et al., 1994; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). Grh factors were first identified in Drosophila (Bray et al., 1989; Bray and Kafatos, 1991; Dynlacht et al., 1989; Johnson et al., 1989) and since then, they were also found in animals as diverse as nematodes and humans. Grh proteins have not yet been detected in unicellular organisms. Phylogenetic analysis subdivides this gene family into two main classes, the Grh like sub family and the CP2 sub family, depending whether the family members are more related to the Drosophila grh, or to another Drosophila gene, CP2 (Ting et al., 2003b; Venkatesan et al., 2003; Wilanowski et al., 2002). The fly and worm genomes each contain a single grh gene. Mammals, both mice and humans, have evolved three Grh homologues: Grh like 1 (Grhl 1, or Mammalian Grainyhead (MGR)/TFCP2L2), Grhl 2 (Brother of MGR (BOM)/TFCP2L3) and Grhl 3 (Sister of MGR (SOM)/ TFCP2L4).
