John Updike s AAnd P
The Sorrows of Young Sammy In the writing of the story, A P, John Updike gave beauty to the
peculiarity of adolescence revealed in a peculiar story set in a convenience store. Updike equipped the
story with a first person narrator, dramatic irony, and an interesting setting. Those devices served to
realistically portray the naive tone of a lost, soon to be adult. The first person narrator helped the
readers to hear the story from a teenager who pretended to be mature, setting the naive and immature
tone. Take a look at Sammy s narration. When he noticed that the entire store was interested in the
sexuality the girls in bathing suits presented, he remarked, Poor kids, I began to feel sorry for them,
they couldn t help it (3, Updike). At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He narrated, the girls, and who d blame them, are in a hurry to get out, so I say I quit to Lengel quick
enough for them to hear, hoping they ll stop and watch me, their unsuspected hero (4, Updike). The
dramatic irony in this scene was that throughout the whole story, Sammy never mentioned that the
girls noticed him because they never did Sammy was the one sided observer. Therefore, it was
obvious that Sammy would receive no reaction from the girls, whom he failed to observe their
disinterest towards him. To the audience, it was clear that the girls would continue to disregard him,
let alone seeing him as their savior, nor participate in his fantasy. How Sammy failed to see the
absurdity of his made up reality was what made him naive, although he clearly wanted to establish his
superiority and admirability as an adult nineteen year old. What s more, he imagined himself to be the
hero of his girls, unsuspectedly protecting them over the ugly, monotonous adult world. He narrated
the incident as if he wished to be the protagonist of a real life children s hero story, which highlighted
the naive, teenage tone. He thought he could enter maturity and adulthood by being the hero of the
teenagers. The dramatic irony of the story highlighted his unawareness of the reality, therefore the
tone of a naive, immature

Types of Family Structure
Understanding Family The type of family structure I grew up in was very traditional and structured.
The family was intact. Mom stayed home and dad went to work in order to make money to pay the
bills. He was always the breadwinner, and mom was a stay at home mom who took care of the
children and the house instead of working outside the home. Both parents were open minded, warm,
and loving, but they were also authoritative and serious about taking care of the children, the house,
and each other. Overall, it was a very effective way to raise a family, and is being passed along to
future generations of my family in order to preserve tradition and show how things can work out very
nicely for people who are interested in keeping to some of the older ways of raising a family. Both
parents do not always have to work for there to be enough money to survive (Mattox, 1990). It is
possible for the mother to stay home, and if she has a lot of children it might actually be less
expensive than paying for daycare (Forbes, 2005). If mom works but her entire paycheck goes for
childcare expenses she has not gained anything. She has only lost time with her children (Forbes,
2005). While there are not as many moms who stay home today, there is nothing wrong with mom
staying home and dad working. My parents were always happy with that arrangement and did not see
the need to make changes. They were open minded enough to have made changes, though, if they had
both wanted to or if there was

The Four Steps Of The Two-Track Model Of Bereavement
The Two Track Model of Bereavement is a model that states loss is conceptualized along two axes.
Track I pertains to the biopsychosocial functioning in the event of a loss and Track II pertains to the
bereaved s continued emotional attachment and relationship to whoever is deceased. The effect of
Track I is seen through the bereaved s functioning, including their anxiety, their self esteem and self
worth, and their depressive affect and cognitions. Noting the ability of one to invest in life tasks after
experiencing a loss indicates how they are responding to the loss of the deceased. This Track is seen as
an expression similar to one of trauma, or crisis. Track II holds that the bereaved has difficulty
physically separating from the deceased. This can be seen in emotional, interpersonal, or cognitive
ways. It is shown through imagery and memories that the bereaved experiences surrounding the
deceased, whether positive or negative, as well as the emotional distance from them. These pictures in
the bereaved s head explain both the cognitive and emotional view of the person who has died (Rubin,
1999).
Four Steps of the Two Track Model of Bereavement
For those experiencing loss, it is common they experience similar stages while loss is assimilated.
Rubin (1999) states that in the first stage, the bereaved loses a close relationship, clearly impacting
them. One s homeostatic functioning will likely undergo changes, but these will return to normal, or
almost normal, once this

doi:10.1215/03616878 1966252
Summary:
This article focuses mainly on how the National Federation of Independent Business vs Sebelius case
impacted both healthcare law and constitutional law. There are also some opinion about how the ruling
was mostly impacted by consideration of its healthcare impact or constitutional law, as conceived by
different parties. Healthcare law considers issues of coverage, accessibility, cost, accountability, and
the quality of healthcare service. All these must be considered when making policies that affect health
care which makes it especially problematic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

time upheld another mandate allowing people to legally choose to violate the mandate of the Patient

health care law sensitivity consideration . The Court Justices were split into different factions of
opinions, tax power and the commerce power. To sum it up, majority of the court Justice s opinion err
on the side of constitutional law principles. In contracts, Justice Ginsburg s opinion is as much about
health care law as it is about constitutional

The Importance Of A Teacher Leadership Program
Talking Point #1
Drawing upon class activities, course materials and professional experiences explain why it is
important for a school leader to demonstrate skills that promote teacher leadership functions focused
on instructional proficiency and enable faculty and staff to work as a system focused on student
learning. (2a, 7d)
Nowadays it is paramount to appreciate the teacher leadership idea. When school leaders demonstrate
skills that promote teacher leadership functions that are focused on instructional proficiency to enable
faculty and staff to work as a system focused on student learning, it not only makes students progress
academically, but it also makes the job of any school leader much easier. Hitherto, some school
leaders prefer to organize their schools by centralizing most of the decision around them. Danielson
(2007) wrote that successful schools have administrators who incentivize teachers to become leaders
and which makes students learn more than those schools that do not. To embrace this idea, I will
welcome the teacher leadership concept and give the appropriate support so my schools may achieve
great success and teachers are able to present their full talent. Indeed, school administrators must do
their best to promote proper teacher leadership. When that happen, their actions make teachers and
staff members work responsibly and independently with a well defined application of their roles. Once
this kind of attitude becomes accepted and trust is

The Pear Tree In The Full Tree Of Janie s Life
Josie Atkinson
Full Circle The pear tree that Janie sits under is a metaphoric representation of the cycles of her life:
budding, growing, dying, and being reborn. Each relationship represents another cycle that she faces,
and it is also the catalyst for her pursuit of self discovery. She is captivated by the way the bee
interacts with the tree and identifies it as an ideally harmonious relationship. Janie is stirred
tremendously by the tree because it intoxicates her with the beautiful interactions of nature (10). The
bee and the tree symbolize a union in which there is neither control nor command, but rather an
effortless interaction. She becomes enthralled with the concept of harmony and embarks on a journey
to find the perfect relationship between her and a man. As the motif reoccurs, it parallels the growth of
Janie s expectations of a relationship and who she shares it with; she longs for the man who she can
experience harmony with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nanny is adamant about instilling a belief that Janie s voice matters, but misguides her and forces her
into a controlling marriage. She underestimates Janie s ability to create her own path in life, and thus
acts counterproductively for her granddaughter by aiding in silencing the voice that she gave Janie as
a child. Nanny s determination that her granddaughter will be married is characteristic of an ex slave
because, to her, it is the only way that Janie can survive. Nanny and Logan Killicks cycle happen
simultaneously; Nanny dies and she leaves her husband in search of things sweet with [her] marriage,
like when you sit under a pear tree and think (24). She attempts to shed toxicity and acquiescence, but
Janie undergoes another unhealthy marriage cycle with Joe Starks, who [takes] the bloom out of

We Can Then Continue For Graphing
We can then continue to graphing: Even though we can see that the damage multiplier goes down as
you acquire more Armor or MR. From the Effective Health formula we can see that EH increases
linearly with Resistances, because even though there is a fraction, it still fits with the y = mx + b
format, where in the example, the y intercept is 500 and the slope is 5, if we expand the equation.
Additionally, the domain is x 0 because it is impossible to have less than 0 Resistances in the game
and the range is y 500, because that is what I set the base to be. We can see that there is a 1% increase
in EH per point of Resistance, a linear increase in EH. In the instance of the example graph, I used 500
Health and 0 Resistances as a base. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can convert those values into terms of Gold per stat point to get: 1 Gold per 0.05 Armor 1 Gold per
0.056 Magic Resist 1 Gold per 0.375 Health Using that we can then generate an equation to find the
values of when the cost of a Resistance is equal to the cost of Health. Therefore telling us when to buy
more Health versus when to buy more Resistances, depending on the value of the other. Since 1 Gold
of HP grants a person EH equal to 0.375 + (0.375 Resistances100), and 1 Gold of Armor grants EH
equivalent to 0.05100Health Points, equating these two will allow us to find out when they are of
equal value, like so: 0.375 + (0.375 Resistances100) = 0.05100Health Points We can then rearrange
this equation in terms of HP to become: Health Points = 750 + (7.5Resistances) Then create a table of
values: Resistances Health 0 750 100 1500 200 2250 300 3000 400 3750 And graph to become: The
line produced by the linear graph represents when the cost of HP and Resistances are equal, telling us
that when one s HP is above the line, buying HP grants less EH for the same cost, compared to buying
a Resistance, and when a player s HP is below the line, buying HP would be grant more EH per Gold
than buying Resistances. With all characters in the game having a starting maximum HP of between
478 and 626, and starting Resistance values between 16 and 31, it is clear that because all characters
have statistics that can be plotted under the line, at

Participation Awards
Lessons of Participation Awards In today s society, children think they need to be awarded for
participating in events. Participation awards do not always teach children the lessons they need to
learn. Participation awards can always be great, but it is not teaching the children the lessons we want
them to learn. We must focus on process and progress, not results and rewards, (Merryman). The
awards affect how the children will act later in their life. Children will always participate if it meant
they would receive an award.
Some would just join, not try, and just participate just to get the award afterwards.
And for the ones who actually tried and got a participation award, feel like they failed.Which is a
negative influence on the children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents need to tell them that it is okay to lose. It s O.K. to lose, to make a mistake . (Merryman) As
young children, everyone made mistakes. That is just part of being a kid. Learning lessons from the
mistakes. Not everyone is going to be good at everything. It s through failure and mistakes that we
learn the most. (Merryman) And without mistakes, no one would learn anything important. And that
important thing is, making mistakes can open their eyes. It can show them what to do next time and
what not to do again. Even though everyone has probably made the same mistakes once or twice. One
day everyone will learn. So, if parents taught the importance of winning and losing we would not have
to worry about participation

Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea
Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea.
Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to
give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of
the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in
Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen
[...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with
Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around
her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides
Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget
heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her
revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life.
However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own
children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them,
who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason]
beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his
current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her
actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation
can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband,
Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly
fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something
unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only
do both mothers kill their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control

Similarities Between Massachusetts Bay And Virginia
Through the development of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay a few similarities can be noted, however,
the development of these two colonies were vastly different. First off we can notice the similarities;
both Virginia and Massachusetts Bay were founded by investors that funded colonists from England
over to the New World. Both of these colonies were formed with a hope for profit and both of these
colonies followed a government that consisted of counties with sheriffs and governors. As far as
economically successful colonies go, Massachusetts Bay proved to be the more successful of the two.
Virginia had a more appropriate climate for the production and growth of a wider variety of crops but
tobacco was their highest produced crop. Massachusetts

Causes And Treatment Of Cryptosporidium Species Are...
Cryptosporidium species are intestinal protozoan parasites with a worldwide distribution, responsible
for diarrheal disease in a large number of vertebrate hosts including humans, and zoonotic infection
has long been acknowledged, as it is life threatening in immunocompromised patients (Current et al.,
1983). The disease has a faecal oral cycle, occurring with the ingestion of infecting oocystes, which
have environmental resistance. Separate anthroponotic and zoonotic transmission cycles have been
identified (Casemore and Jackson, 1984) and infection is maintained by several routes: direct person
to person transmission, animal to person contact either directly or indirectly and by ingestion of
contaminated food, fomites and especially drinking and recreational water (Atherton et al., 1995;
Casemore, 1990; Gallaher et al., 1989; Joce et al., 1991; Meinhardt et al., 1996). To date it is
considered one of the most difficult to control waterborne microorganism and contaminated water
represents the major source of human infection (Fayer, 2004; Ramirez et al., 2004). Waterborne
outbreaks in human from agricultural sources have long been ascribed to cattle due the high
prevalence of C. parvum in calves, however it is still debated whether sheep might have an
epidemiological role for zoonotic transmission (Robertson, 2009). Species within the genus
Cryptosporidium have been traditionally classified upon host range, oocyst morphology and site of
infection and infections from farm

American Push For Independence Essay
Divided Thoughts on Independence
The British colonies of North America took their beginnings in the early part of the sixteen hundreds.
At that time Virginia and New England became the first regions to be settled by the English. It was the
birth of America as a whole, but it also was the beginnings of two distinct ways of life. The colonies
were founded on Independence, but from the start there were two completely different ideas of what
that Independence was and what it would mean over time.
This paper will examine the two conceptions of Independence to the Virginian and to the New
Englander. Using primary documents of the time it will explain how each idea changed over time ...

The rich lived a life based on status and socializing. They owned land and had slaves to work their
property. That was the attainable sought after lifestyle of Virginia colonists. The poor farmers hoped to
one day reach that kind of lifestyle. It would become the Southern way. William Byrd wrote in his
secret diary,
amp;#8220;[January] 17. [1712 ] I rose about 7 o amp;#8217;clock and read a chapter in Hebrew and
some Greek in Lucian. I said my prayers and ate boiled milk for breakfast. I danced my dance. When I
got up I thought to ride to Falling Creek but the weather threatened snow and the wind northeast,
which discouraged me from my journey. About 12 o amp;#8217;clock I went to see John and Tom
plant the peach orchard where I stayed till dinner was ready amp;#8230;.I stayed there a little time and
then went to take a walk about the plantation to examine what the rest had done and was contented
with the overseer amp;#8217;s management amp;#8230;.I said my prayers and had good health, good
thoughts, and good humor, thank God Almighty. ;
This passage is a perfect example of what a Virginian would want in independence. To live a life of
status, spend a day not doing work, but reading, socializing, and briefly looking over his business
affairs. It was what Virginians believed in. To be independent in Virginia was to be an aristocratic land

Peeking Behind the Masks In Cold Blood, Streetcar Named Desire, and Fences
In life, we all attempt to project some kind of personality to others. We have a mask we wear in
different situations, but when times get tough, we eventually discard our masks and become our true
selves. We don t live behind our masks until the tragic end, like the characters of In Cold Blood by
Truman Capote, Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, and Fences by August Wilson. The
three characters, Perry Smith, Blanche DuBois, and Troy Maxson wore masks to their bitter endings,
always trying to fool everyone else. When times got tough, they had to face themselves, and they
could not stand the sight.

Harris states that DuBois masks her life. She doesn t want to face what she really is. The worst horror
for her in her mind is for anyone else to see her true self.
The audience does see it almost right away, and they know from the first representation of DuBois that
they are in for something else. Williams sets up DuBois scenes so the audience can quickly ascertain
her true personality. The audience is, however, aware that baths and light bulbs have a meaning for
Blanche apart from their functional existence (Corrigan 575). Mary Ann Corrigan writes that DuBois
is far from perfect, and the audience can see just that in her drinking of alcohol and her slight
comments towards her sister and brother in law (575). Yet, the whole time she is hiding behind her
mask, she tells everyone she only has a drink once in a while, and she needs her baths to relax.
The audience cannot mistake that Dubois does know who she really is, and what her situation holds
for her. For this reason, she chooses to hide behind her mask of a southern belle, with her old dresses,
rituals, and paper shaded light bulbs (Vogel 505).
Dan Vogel states in his book The Three Masks of American Tragedy,
She is beyond the capability of even attempting to control and manipulate the world about her.
Obviously she recognizes truth, and the truth is that her life is compounded

wrote these articles during the Allied occupation of Japan; Ward wrote his article in December 1956
whilst Kawai wrote his article in September 1955 . Both authors have very similar arguments in
regards to the Japanese constitution that was put in place in 1947 by the Supreme Commander of the

Kawai s main point is that the role of the emperor will be brought into question as his newly reduced
powers do not compliment Japan s social structure. Ward hold a similar argument in that he believes
that the constitution was rushed and poorly imposed upon Japan. Ward uses a detailed described of the
process as to which the constitution goes through and uses this to demonstrate how it s forcefully
imposed nature proved to be counterproductive for the American initiative. Both writers maintain the
notion that the constitution is an alien invention which proves less than productive for completing the
objective of creating a democratic Japan. The issue that arises from these articles is whether or not the
constitution was an effective or even a necessary change in Japan. The question as to whether or not
the constitution should be changed still exists today , as the current Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō
Abe wishes to, and has succeeded in, changing the constitution . Both arguments that are presented in
the articles are somewhat convincing. Subtracting the fact that the constitution remains unchanged
after both articles are written, the individual merits of the articles are convincing. Kawai argues that
the social hierarchy was one of the reasons

Noir Film Analysis
American film noir didn t start as a genre but a visual style of film as depicted in 1940s American
films like This Gun for Hire, but following the coining of the term by post world war II french
scholars film noir especially from the 70s to the present day through films like LA Confidential has
evolved to a very recognizable and full featured genre . We are able to recognize films within the noir
genre as with any genre films for their distinct syntactic and semantic qualities, the same
theories/concepts Rick Altman uses to define the difficult concept of genre remain very similar
between the 1940s noir and today s contemporary neo noir. In talking about the syntactic and semantic
list of film noir its pretty helpful to know and understand what these elements are. It s difficult to say
that there is a sole formula for every noir film, but there are many recognizable commonly occuring
traits that remain constant from the genre s inception over 70 years ago going forward into
contemporary neo noir. In terms of syntactic elements as identified in the Belton text s noir chapter the
most universal elements would be the complex narrative structure, the violent nature and involvement
with crime, fem fatales, arbitration of justice, tough guys, and loneliness. These are really what drive
the film non visually whereas the semantics contribute to the visual stylings of the film. Noir films
share the common semantic elements of low key lighting, dark and rainy nights, sequencing,

16th Century Wicca Witchcraft
The topic of religion is very controversial and at times, is seen as something negative. The practice of
witchcraft can be considered unholy and pure evil to some, but to others, it is a religion and a way of
life. Wicca, founded in England in the mid 20th century, is a religion based on pre Christian traditions
that practices modern witchcraft. Witchcraft is often referred to the human usage of supernatural
powers for the malevolent purpose of practicing black magic ( History and Background of Wicca ).
The acceptance of those who were involved in sorcery was difficult for the people of Great Britain.
The negative reactions and thoughts affected the members of Wicca in numerous ways. The practices
of witchcraft in Great Britain lead to the influences and modern day practices of the witches in the
religion of Wicca.
In the 16th century, witchcraft became popular because people believed it had a better explanation of
unexpected unfortunate events, rather than the working of God s will ( Witchcraft ). It is practiced by
both men and women, but mostly stereotyped to only women. A typical witch was described as being

Tobias Smollett s The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle
In the passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle the author Tobias Smollett uses dialogue,
syntax and word choice to convey the complexities of emotions and social propriety. Firstly, word
choice is an important tool Smollet uses. This technique is important because it helps set apart the
passage from other narratives. The use of repetition emphasizes the indignation of the two men
arguing. His use of this tool can be noted throughout the first passage, lines 1 through 23, with the
repeated phrases sir and gentlemen . With each emphasis the tension increases between the two men
and the struggle between their anger and their respectable reputations is shown. Smollett s use of
formal, and old fashioned phrases as well as narrative help represent a respectful tone, even as they
both wish to fight the other. The usage of this tool creates a dance between the two, in which they are
waiting for the other to make a move in order to make one of their own. An example of this technique
is in lines 13 through 10. Shown in the dialogue between the two characters in which Godfrey and
Pickle are arguing, Smollett wrote replied the soldier... and the youth. The formal explanation of the
characters makes them impersonal, which then makes them seem very similar to ... Show more

With each outburst, the emotions are increasing and Smollet shows this by abruptly ending each
character, making them seem to talk over one another leading to a shouting match. Multiple examples
can be found within the first paragraph such as dare not apply that term to me? you are mistaken ( line
17 to 18) . Another key factor is how the passage seems to be written in third person which creates an
atmosphere of a spectator looking in on a fight about to unfold. Smollett s use of this helps give a view
that by itself has no opinion on the scene, but together still being able to feel the emotion that the
characters are going

The Alienation Effect in A Room of One s Own
The Alienation Effect in A Room of One s Own But, Woolf starts A Room of One s Own, you may
say, we asked you to speak about women and fiction what, has that got to do with a room of one s
own? (3). This opening is the interruption to a thought that we didn t hear; it is part of a speech that we
aren t in the audience for. The reader has barely ventured into the text, and already he is left
disoriented. Instead of introducing her reader to her argument, Woolf immediately and intentionally
puts this reader at odds with her work. These lines do not comfortably introduce her thinking; they
charge us with the task of both discovering and analyzing the argument that Woolf plans to make there
is no room for the passive reader here. Throughout the text, Woolf works to estrange the audience
from becoming emotionally involved in the text by taking that which is familiar and making it strange.
The estrangement that is used in the text isn t unique to Woolf s work (CITE THIS SHIT), but the way
she purposefully uses it in A Room of One s Own is worth noting. Woolf works to alienate her reader
from the argument she makes in order to reevaluate the social structures at work behind her argument;
she makes the argument that women writers need money and room of their own to be successful
writers, but, through her alienation of the reader, she also wants them to incite political change
through them. In this way, Woolf s alienation becomes Brechtian in nature. Although Room

American University Law School s Campus
American University Law School s campus is beautiful; the classrooms are new, spacious, and
sometimes well lit. I was really excited to have the opportunity to sit in a real law school class
amongst unrehearsed law students, which would give me an insight into the inner workings of a law
school classroom. The experience was rewarding in more ways than one and it also reinforced my
plans to attend law school.
My expectations were unclear, as I had sat in a Torts class before, but this time I sat in a Contracts
class. Upon entering the classroom, I immediately noticed how large it was and that being in the third
row on the top half meant being really far away from the professor, which is usually a bad experience
for me. I personally prefer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The professor began the class by telling the students a story about his grandchildren in a way to
transition into the assigned readings of the day. The students were very responsive to him and seemed
to be very comfortable since they were making jokes back and forth. It was really relieving to see this
interaction and also gave me a sense of the types of professors and students at the Washington College
of Law.
Professor Pike s teaching style involves a lecture with a visual aid. This teaching style seems to be the
most effective for me because I can see what the professor is trying to explain on a PowerPoint. I have
read and heard stories about law schools being notorious for using the Socratic Method for classroom
instruction. The idea is to encourage all students to be fully prepared with their cases briefed ready to
be called at any time. Interestingly enough, I feel like this was a form of a revised Socratic method.
The professor did call on random students by looking at his seating chart and choosing someone and
then the student had to give all of the important facts of the case, the issue presented, and what court it
was brought up in. If the student was missing a key piece of evidence, the professor would probe
further, asking more challenging questions and if the student did not know, other students were
allowed to answer. There seemed to be more opportunities to

Authentic Food In The United States
Not Authentic at All People in the United States of America have different taste in food. Americans
are used to a different way of preparing, flavoring, dressing and accepting any ethnic food. For
example, in order to accept any ethnic food, it should be modified and has an American touching and
editing . Exactly in the same way how Middle Eastern food is being treated here in the United States.
In the Middle East there is nothing called fast food, so fast food is not considered as a part of any
Arabic culture. Therefore, Middle Eastern food takes a lot of time to be cooked and served. However,
in the United States Middle Eastern food is being treated as a fast food, which make it not authentic at

If one thing is missing the whole value of the food is missed. One of the great ideas that most of the
Japanese and Chinese cuisines (East Asian cuisines) in general, begin to establish in their restaurants
is the easy chop sticks , which using their native chop sticks in an easy way and it is made especially
for those who do not know how to use the regular chop sticks. This kind of modification is acceptable,
because it combines a mix between keeping the authenticity of and adapting the consumers. It gives us
the taste and the atmosphere of the food culture and at the same we are enjoying the food with no
problems of using those chop sticks. McDonalds restaurants are the best example of that, they keep
the American way no matter where they have branches at. McDonalds in the Middle East, India, and
China and all over the world they strictly sell sandwiches, fries and burgers. We will not hear or find
that one McDonalds restaurant in the Arabian Gulf Region have a Big Mac over rice , even though
that literally anything over rice would be awesome for Arabian Gulf people. However, it would seem
weird to them, because as all of them grow up and knowing that McDonalds is an American

Racial Differences In Criminal Justice System Essay
When researchers concentrated on harmless violations, they observed that the judges appeared to be
significantly fairer. Likewise, in research center tests, white trial judges, hold implicit bias against
black individuals (Brown, 2016). In any case, literature has shown that judges could defeat those
biases with actual effort.
Race differences in criminal involvement and racial patterns in the criminal justice system have been
important topics since the beginning of American criminology (Alessandro, 2016). In late decades, a
considerable literature focused on racial profiling by police and racial differences in imprisonment,
sentencing, and other areas of criminal and juvenile justice processing has grown. There are both

Despite changes in leadership and growing attention to issues of racial and ethnic disparity in recent

LAW575 Contract Paper
Contract Paper Danny Davidson sold a single family home to Paul and Priscilla Peterson. A long term
relationship between Danny and Paul is the basis for not including a written agreement. The simple
contract was made orally and only included the legal object and the amount to be paid. Danny did not
disclose a dispute with his neighbor over boundary lines or include information about a soil
subsidence in the front yard he claims not to have known about. Contract Elements Four elements are
necessary for a contract to exist. According to Kubasek et al., (2012) These elements are the

the property is in proper condition to accommodate those changes. The bathroom additions and

not predicting what changes the Petersons would make to the property. Danny may use lack of proper
form as a defense against breach of contract. The objective theory of contracts means we base the
existence of a contract on the parties outward manifestations of intent and we base its interpretation on
how a reasonable person would interpret it, (Kubasek et al., 2012, p. 306). A reasonable person may
assume that the buyer of the house was planning on living in it and possibly making alterations to the
house. It is not reasonable to assume that immediate upgrades will be made or that expansion of the
home will be done if the buyer does not state this intent or state issues with the current condition of
the home. Danny did not partake in landscaping and is not an expert or professional in the field so it
would not be reasonable to assume he was aware of the soil issues. Remedies Paul and Priscilla may
have include compensatory damages, nominal damages, punitive damages, liquidated damages,
rescission and restitution, specific performance, or injunction. Some form of damages or rescission

Environmental Sanctions And Safety Standards
Introduction
Coal is king. The coal industry controls the economy of states, and states rely on it for electricity.
However, many families involved in the industry of coal are experiencing profound economic
difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known for
a large coal mining industry. Many mining families experience this economic difficulty, particularly
due to health risks and job situations.
Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. In just the past twenty years, air
pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than half a million Americans. (Jeff
Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those uninvolved in the production of it. There are a
vast amount of environmental sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and regulations
meant to protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies must pay for all of
this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These companies manage to still make
profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly make up costs by laying off employees. This process
results in a never ending cycle of downtrodden individuals trying to make ends meet. Mining is a
neutral party, it has negatives and positives, both of which impact the Appalachia community
significantly.
Mining has a vast assortment of negatives that are constantly being discussed. Mining can damage the
environment and

A Comparison Of Alexander Hamilton And Aaron Burr
Over the centuries there has arisen many undisputed geniuses such as Leonardo da Vinci, William
Shakespeare, and Albert Einstein. With the rise of geniuses such as these there are two questions
raised. What is genius? Is genius born or can it be learned? Scholars have gone back and forth and
there is plenty of evidence and countless examples supporting either side. However, there appears to
be a compromise between the two sides in how a genius comes about. To begin, it is common for
many people to laud a skilled person as a genius . In reality, a genius is defined as, extraordinary
intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity (Meriam). Clearly, a genius who
possesses more than just intellectual superiority; one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gates later went on co found Microsoft and create lasting and groundbreaking computer software that
continues to be valuable to society as technology has become common in day to day life.
Undoubtedly, Gate s intellect, passion, and creativity led him to create an extraordinary product and
established him as a modern genius. To begin, genius comes about through passion, creativity, and
natural talent and cannot be born . First, intellect is the obvious foundation for any genius, however, it
involves more than natural intelligence. To illustrate, an individual may have great talent in a certain
subject but lack of practice, imagination and passion will prevent him from being a genius. On the
other hand, one may not have an astounding natural ability nevertheless he practices, has a passion for
this subject and an open imagination; this individual may turn out to be a genius. Thus, intellect is an
aspect of a genius not the only component. Further, passion has long been known to be a powerful
force in humans and it has led to artistic and scientific advances. Passion pushes individuals to not
give up in testing new theories, invention or techniques. Insert example of how passion motivated. To
illustrate, Tesla faced much opposition nonetheless his passion for his work pushed him to overcome
them and to create. Thus, it is passion that sees intellect through to

The Higher Price of Higher Education
The High Price of Higher Education In America s society today, students are expected to follow the
path of day care, grade school, middle school, high school and hopefully college. Growing up in
America today, the importance of education is stressed starting at the earliest stages of development.
In a world with a competitive job market and with citizens who want to make the most money that
they can, a college education is key in success. For some students, financing college is not a problem.
Money should not be a factor in the student s decision making process when choosing what school to

high costs. Working through college is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this is the case then there should be documentation of these increases but, academic institutions
have made little effort either on or off campus to make themselves transparent to explain their
finances, (Tuition Rising). There is no documentation that describes what every penny of tuition pays
for. It is only stated that it goes toward administrative costs, faculty salaries, technology, Federal
regulation, endowment, State appropriations, (Tuition Rising). But why are the costs rising? Patrick
M. Callan, president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, states that there s
not much going on in either private or public higher education that is very serious about cost control,
(Tuition Rising). He believes that Underlying all this is that more kids are graduating from high school
every year, most of them want to go to college, and so it s a seller s market. Universities raise tuition
because they can, (Tuition Rising). This makes us wonder if universities are tricking us of our money
since they have not documented where tuition is going. In order to avoid confusion from students and
parents who want answers, the government should require institutions to have documentation of what
tuition is funding.
Financial aid is a popular choice for students to fund their college education, which presently costs an
average of $15,566 for an undergraduate student

Persuasive Techniques Used in Michael Jackson s Eulogy...
Persuasion is a commonly used communication technique that allows us to socially influence a certain
topic positively or negatively. Its purpose is to help affirm or nullify an idea, belief or attitude.
Sometimes the exact topic is very detectable in communication such as during debates but other times
it displayed a little more subtly. Persuasion is more than just verbally speaking. Non verbal
communication such as body language, tone and pitch of the voice can also add to the affirmation of
the topic. The setting and location also help encourage the acceptance of what is being persuaded.
In Michael Jackson s eulogy delivered by Al Sharpton, a subtle persuasion speech was also given. He

Many would agree that a really great candidate was chosen to give Michael s eulogy. When you think
of Al Sharpton, a good image comes to mind because his ethos is very reputable. Not only is this man
well known to the general population, he is particularly known in the black community. The Reverend
Al Sharpton is known mainly known for being a civil rights advocate, Baptist minister, and radio talk
show host. He is also known for making many appearances on news television channels such as
MSNBC. In 2004, he was a democratic nominee for the presidential election. Sharpton is famous for
being loyal to many things or ideas that he supports; a loyalty that is so strong it can lead him to jail.
Although he is criticized by some who believe he is to blame for a continued racial separation, many
people give him admiration for being a great activist. He knows how to command the attention of
people and to get them to listen to what he has to say, especially on very delicate matters. Because of
his well known credentials, it wasn t hard to see why he was asked to speak. The emotion in Sharpton
s voice while delivering his eulogy showed that he not only cared about Michael as a public icon, but
also as person; he was a dear friend to him. While speaking, he showed a compassion and
understanding to the family of Michael. He made it clear that he was sensitive to their loss and that he
was empathic because their loss was just

Pros And Cons Of Corruption In Greece
Greece has been in the news since for all the wrong reasons and has been at a centre stage of Biggest
Financial dramas in recent times. Being on the cusp of Euro exit or Grexit what the economists and
finance enthusiasts call it, Prime Minister Tsiparas has softened its stance after a rancorous debate and
finally accepted the bailout terms of 85 billion Euros for three years. But would that be enough? Or in
three more years another crisis and revolt of a more catastrophic nature would crop up? Would it be
better for Greece to leave the Euro now or should they better had left right before in 2011 itself? And
most importantly, Would Greece be able to pay out its debt obligations or should the IMF and other

  • 2. John Updike s AAnd P The Sorrows of Young Sammy In the writing of the story, A P, John Updike gave beauty to the peculiarity of adolescence revealed in a peculiar story set in a convenience store. Updike equipped the story with a first person narrator, dramatic irony, and an interesting setting. Those devices served to realistically portray the naive tone of a lost, soon to be adult. The first person narrator helped the readers to hear the story from a teenager who pretended to be mature, setting the naive and immature tone. Take a look at Sammy s narration. When he noticed that the entire store was interested in the sexuality the girls in bathing suits presented, he remarked, Poor kids, I began to feel sorry for them, they couldn t help it (3, Updike). At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He narrated, the girls, and who d blame them, are in a hurry to get out, so I say I quit to Lengel quick enough for them to hear, hoping they ll stop and watch me, their unsuspected hero (4, Updike). The dramatic irony in this scene was that throughout the whole story, Sammy never mentioned that the girls noticed him because they never did Sammy was the one sided observer. Therefore, it was obvious that Sammy would receive no reaction from the girls, whom he failed to observe their disinterest towards him. To the audience, it was clear that the girls would continue to disregard him, let alone seeing him as their savior, nor participate in his fantasy. How Sammy failed to see the absurdity of his made up reality was what made him naive, although he clearly wanted to establish his superiority and admirability as an adult nineteen year old. What s more, he imagined himself to be the hero of his girls, unsuspectedly protecting them over the ugly, monotonous adult world. He narrated the incident as if he wished to be the protagonist of a real life children s hero story, which highlighted the naive, teenage tone. He thought he could enter maturity and adulthood by being the hero of the teenagers. The dramatic irony of the story highlighted his unawareness of the reality, therefore the tone of a naive, immature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Types of Family Structure Understanding Family The type of family structure I grew up in was very traditional and structured. The family was intact. Mom stayed home and dad went to work in order to make money to pay the bills. He was always the breadwinner, and mom was a stay at home mom who took care of the children and the house instead of working outside the home. Both parents were open minded, warm, and loving, but they were also authoritative and serious about taking care of the children, the house, and each other. Overall, it was a very effective way to raise a family, and is being passed along to future generations of my family in order to preserve tradition and show how things can work out very nicely for people who are interested in keeping to some of the older ways of raising a family. Both parents do not always have to work for there to be enough money to survive (Mattox, 1990). It is possible for the mother to stay home, and if she has a lot of children it might actually be less expensive than paying for daycare (Forbes, 2005). If mom works but her entire paycheck goes for childcare expenses she has not gained anything. She has only lost time with her children (Forbes, 2005). While there are not as many moms who stay home today, there is nothing wrong with mom staying home and dad working. My parents were always happy with that arrangement and did not see the need to make changes. They were open minded enough to have made changes, though, if they had both wanted to or if there was ... • 4. The Four Steps Of The Two-Track Model Of Bereavement The Two Track Model of Bereavement is a model that states loss is conceptualized along two axes. Track I pertains to the biopsychosocial functioning in the event of a loss and Track II pertains to the bereaved s continued emotional attachment and relationship to whoever is deceased. The effect of Track I is seen through the bereaved s functioning, including their anxiety, their self esteem and self worth, and their depressive affect and cognitions. Noting the ability of one to invest in life tasks after experiencing a loss indicates how they are responding to the loss of the deceased. This Track is seen as an expression similar to one of trauma, or crisis. Track II holds that the bereaved has difficulty physically separating from the deceased. This can be seen in emotional, interpersonal, or cognitive ways. It is shown through imagery and memories that the bereaved experiences surrounding the deceased, whether positive or negative, as well as the emotional distance from them. These pictures in the bereaved s head explain both the cognitive and emotional view of the person who has died (Rubin, 1999). Four Steps of the Two Track Model of Bereavement For those experiencing loss, it is common they experience similar stages while loss is assimilated. Rubin (1999) states that in the first stage, the bereaved loses a close relationship, clearly impacting them. One s homeostatic functioning will likely undergo changes, but these will return to normal, or almost normal, once this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Importance Of A Teacher Leadership Program Talking Point #1 Drawing upon class activities, course materials and professional experiences explain why it is important for a school leader to demonstrate skills that promote teacher leadership functions focused on instructional proficiency and enable faculty and staff to work as a system focused on student learning. (2a, 7d) Nowadays it is paramount to appreciate the teacher leadership idea. When school leaders demonstrate skills that promote teacher leadership functions that are focused on instructional proficiency to enable faculty and staff to work as a system focused on student learning, it not only makes students progress academically, but it also makes the job of any school leader much easier. Hitherto, some school leaders prefer to organize their schools by centralizing most of the decision around them. Danielson (2007) wrote that successful schools have administrators who incentivize teachers to become leaders and which makes students learn more than those schools that do not. To embrace this idea, I will welcome the teacher leadership concept and give the appropriate support so my schools may achieve great success and teachers are able to present their full talent. Indeed, school administrators must do their best to promote proper teacher leadership. When that happen, their actions make teachers and staff members work responsibly and independently with a well defined application of their roles. • 8. The Pear Tree In The Full Tree Of Janie s Life Josie Atkinson Full Circle The pear tree that Janie sits under is a metaphoric representation of the cycles of her life: budding, growing, dying, and being reborn. Each relationship represents another cycle that she faces, and it is also the catalyst for her pursuit of self discovery. She is captivated by the way the bee interacts with the tree and identifies it as an ideally harmonious relationship. Janie is stirred tremendously by the tree because it intoxicates her with the beautiful interactions of nature (10). The bee and the tree symbolize a union in which there is neither control nor command, but rather an effortless interaction. She becomes enthralled with the concept of harmony and embarks on a journey to find the perfect relationship between her and a man. As the motif reoccurs, it parallels the growth of Janie s expectations of a relationship and who she shares it with; she longs for the man who she can experience harmony with. ... From the Effective Health formula we can see that EH increases linearly with Resistances, because even though there is a fraction, it still fits with the y = mx + b format, where in the example, the y intercept is 500 and the slope is 5, if we expand the equation. Additionally, the domain is x 0 because it is impossible to have less than 0 Resistances in the game and the range is y 500, because that is what I set the base to be. We can see that there is a 1% increase in EH per point of Resistance, a linear increase in EH. In the instance of the example graph, I used 500 Health and 0 Resistances as a base. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can convert those values into terms of Gold per stat point to get: 1 Gold per 0.05 Armor 1 Gold per 0.056 Magic Resist 1 Gold per 0.375 Health Using that we can then generate an equation to find the values of when the cost of a Resistance is equal to the cost of Health. Therefore telling us when to buy more Health versus when to buy more Resistances, depending on the value of the other. Since 1 Gold of HP grants a person EH equal to 0.375 + (0.375 Resistances100), and 1 Gold of Armor grants EH equivalent to 0.05100Health Points, equating these two will allow us to find out when they are of equal value, like so: 0.375 + (0.375 Resistances100) = 0.05100Health Points We can then rearrange this equation in terms of HP to become: Health Points = 750 + (7.5Resistances) Then create a table of values: Resistances Health 0 750 100 1500 200 2250 300 3000 400 3750 And graph to become: The line produced by the linear graph represents when the cost of HP and Resistances are equal, telling us that when one s HP is above the line, buying HP grants less EH for the same cost, compared to buying a Resistance, and when a player s HP is below the line, buying HP would be grant more EH per Gold than buying Resistances. With all characters in the game having a starting maximum HP of between 478 and 626, and starting Resistance values between 16 and 31, it is clear that because all characters have statistics that can be plotted under the line, at ... Participation awards do not always teach children the lessons they need to learn. Participation awards can always be great, but it is not teaching the children the lessons we want them to learn. We must focus on process and progress, not results and rewards, (Merryman). The awards affect how the children will act later in their life. Children will always participate if it meant they would receive an award. Some would just join, not try, and just participate just to get the award afterwards. And for the ones who actually tried and got a participation award, feel like they failed.Which is a negative influence on the children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea. Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen [...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life. However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them, who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason] beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband, Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only do both mothers kill their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Massachusetts Bay And Virginia Through the development of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay a few similarities can be noted, however, the development of these two colonies were vastly different. First off we can notice the similarities; both Virginia and Massachusetts Bay were founded by investors that funded colonists from England over to the New World. Both of these colonies were formed with a hope for profit and both of these colonies followed a government that consisted of counties with sheriffs and governors. As far as economically successful colonies go, Massachusetts Bay proved to be the more successful of the two. Cryptosporidium species are intestinal protozoan parasites with a worldwide distribution, responsible for diarrheal disease in a large number of vertebrate hosts including humans, and zoonotic infection has long been acknowledged, as it is life threatening in immunocompromised patients (Current et al., 1983). The disease has a faecal oral cycle, occurring with the ingestion of infecting oocystes, which have environmental resistance. Separate anthroponotic and zoonotic transmission cycles have been identified (Casemore and Jackson, 1984) and infection is maintained by several routes: direct person to person transmission, animal to person contact either directly or indirectly and by ingestion of contaminated food, fomites and especially drinking and recreational water (Atherton et al., 1995; Casemore, 1990; Gallaher et al., 1989; Joce et al., 1991; Meinhardt et al., 1996). To date it is considered one of the most difficult to control waterborne microorganism and contaminated water represents the major source of human infection (Fayer, 2004; Ramirez et al., 2004). Waterborne outbreaks in human from agricultural sources have long been ascribed to cattle due the high prevalence of C. parvum in calves, however it is still debated whether sheep might have an epidemiological role for zoonotic transmission (Robertson, 2009). At that time Virginia and New England became the first regions to be settled by the English. It was the birth of America as a whole, but it also was the beginnings of two distinct ways of life. The colonies were founded on Independence, but from the start there were two completely different ideas of what that Independence was and what it would mean over time. Peeking Behind the Masks In Cold Blood, Streetcar Named Desire, and Fences In life, we all attempt to project some kind of personality to others. We don t live behind our masks until the tragic end, like the characters of In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, and Fences by August Wilson. Williams sets up DuBois scenes so the audience can quickly ascertain her true personality. The audience is, however, aware that baths and light bulbs have a meaning for Blanche apart from their functional existence (Corrigan 575). Mary Ann Corrigan writes that DuBois is far from perfect, and the audience can see just that in her drinking of alcohol and her slight comments towards her sister and brother in law (575). Yet, the whole time she is hiding behind her mask, she tells everyone she only has a drink once in a while, and she needs her baths to relax. The audience cannot mistake that Dubois does know who she really is, and what her situation holds for her. For this reason, she chooses to hide behind her mask of a southern belle, with her old dresses, rituals, and paper shaded light bulbs (Vogel 505). • 21. Tobias Smollett s The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle In the passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle the author Tobias Smollett uses dialogue, syntax and word choice to convey the complexities of emotions and social propriety. Firstly, word choice is an important tool Smollet uses. This technique is important because it helps set apart the passage from other narratives. The use of repetition emphasizes the indignation of the two men arguing. His use of this tool can be noted throughout the first passage, lines 1 through 23, with the repeated phrases sir and gentlemen . With each emphasis the tension increases between the two men and the struggle between their anger and their respectable reputations is shown. Smollett s use of formal, and old fashioned phrases as well as narrative help represent a respectful tone, even as they both wish to fight the other. The usage of this tool creates a dance between the two, in which they are waiting for the other to make a move in order to make one of their own. An example of this technique is in lines 13 through 10. Shown in the dialogue between the two characters in which Godfrey and Pickle are arguing, Smollett wrote replied the soldier... and the youth. Another key factor is how the passage seems to be written in third person which creates an atmosphere of a spectator looking in on a fight about to unfold. The reader has barely ventured into the text, and already he is left disoriented. Instead of introducing her reader to her argument, Woolf immediately and intentionally puts this reader at odds with her work. These lines do not comfortably introduce her thinking; they charge us with the task of both discovering and analyzing the argument that Woolf plans to make there is no room for the passive reader here. Throughout the text, Woolf works to estrange the audience from becoming emotionally involved in the text by taking that which is familiar and making it strange. The estrangement that is used in the text isn t unique to Woolf s work (CITE THIS SHIT), but the way she purposefully uses it in A Room of One s Own is worth noting. Woolf works to alienate her reader from the argument she makes in order to reevaluate the social structures at work behind her argument; she makes the argument that women writers need money and room of their own to be successful writers, but, through her alienation of the reader, she also wants them to incite political change through them.
