Attitudes And Beliefs Revisited. The American Counseling
Attitudes and Beliefs Revisited The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (2014)
requires counselors to respect and promote client autonomy, and withhold imposing their personal
values onto client. This is particularly difficult when counselors hold deep beliefs that are
fundamentally opposed to client s goals. The ACA code of ethics (2014) states that the primary
goal of counseling is ...to respect the dignity and promote the welfare of clients (1.A.1). Self
awareness and evaluation is critical to best care practice, as counselors may not be consciously
aware of the values they hold or place upon their clients (American Counseling Association, 2014).
This is also helpful for counselors in training who are Christians, and it was... Show more content

This is a pitfall that I am striving to overcome however, with the first step of being aware of my
particular weaknesses. Secondly I realized if I rejected working with a gay or lesbian couple on
the basis that I objected to their lifestyle, logic then dictates that I approve of the lifestyle of all
the other clients with whom I work. Additionally, I realize that I have a particular aversion to
working with gay or lesbian couples (as opposed to couples who are living together), and this is
also an area that I am currently addressing. In conclusion, I recognize that my job as a counselor
involves respecting the role and the duties it entails. I would feel more uncomfortable working
with this set of clients, however I believe I would still be able to do my job well. It is the duty of
the pastor and the evangelists to promote what the Bible says about marriage and family, and it
is my duty to ethically perform my job and trust that God will us it for His glory. A Gay or
Lesbian Couple Wanting to Adopt a Child This is a similar issue to the previous, however it is
more difficult for me because there is now explicitly a third party involved. My personal value is
that God designed children to be raised by married, heterosexual parents. Additionally, I suspect the
conditions of foster care are not ideal either. Regarding my values, although recognizing I could be

Educational Education And Special Education
According to the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, 89% of children with moderate
learning difficulties, 24% of children with severe learning difficulties and 18% of children with
profound multiple learning difficulties are educated in mainstream schools. Something so prevalent
must surely be effective. However, that is not always the case. It s disheartening watching these
mainstreamed students struggle socially and academically. Either looked over or coddled by
general education teachers; teachers without the proper training, no less, expected to properly
instruct these students with intellectual disabilities. Kids that are always expected too much of or
doubted indefinitely. These are the children that don t belong in a general education classroom.
While mainstreaming, the act of blending general education and special educationclasses, can
possess benefits for both general education and special education pupils, it should not be
implemented in school systems as it creates a more disruptive environment that campaigns for
inhibited learning. But that s only the inauguration of the series of issues present here. The concept
of mainstreaming is based on the fact that a student with disabilities may benefit both socially and
academically from being assigned to a general education classroom rather than a special education
classroom (Perles). A mainstreamed student may have slight adjustments in how they are assessed,
but they learn mostly the same material and

Social Media And Local Media
We will start our campaign in the beginning of June till the end of September in 2017. Our main
goal is to reach 1000 millennials in the Fort Worth area in those four months.
We re going to be doing a lot of advertisements throughout radio broadcasting, local news in the
DFW area, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Our goal is use social media and local media to captivate people attention to our fundraiser. We are
also using these types of media because they are a daily use to most people and is a useful and time
effective way to create a buzz for this fundraiser.

the success.
The second objective was created was to generate awareness by 5 percent of the total millennial
population in the Fort Worth area from June 1, 2017 until September 29, 2017. The Young
Professionals Association will hold many events throughout the summer months to generate
awareness for Lena Pope. YPA will hold an 80 s art contest where they get a chance to get their
art displayed at Rock the Fort. Millennials would be targeted through many bars in Fort Worth and
through organizations throughout Texas Christian University campus. The success of the contest
will be monitored through the number of those who sign up for the contest. The participants will
have to sign up for Lena Pope s mailing list in order to participate. This will make it easier to
measure the success and see the involvement towards the organization. Additionally, we will offer a
free entrance done through radio call in. Reach the millennial population and secondary target
market of 30 to 40 year olds in the Fort Worth area. This will also be measured through the
cooperation with the radio stations who give us the complete number of those who tried to call.

Comparing and contrasting two
Poems on the theme of childhood
Having read the four poems from Seamus Heaney s collection Death of a
Naturalist , I have decided to Compare and contrast the two poems that
I like best, which are Death of a naturalist and Follower . Both of these are childhood stories set in
the countryside. These reflect how
Heaney felt about different aspects of life in his surroundings. This is one of the reasons that I
have chosen these two poems the idea of the countryside makes me feel at home with these two
poems. They are both set in the open air, which creates an open atmosphere.

This is a clear, straight to the point use of childhood language showing the true importance of the

in a positive format, which can tell us the appreciation of everything that was around him glazing in

The second stanza has become a different type of stanza by becoming negative. This is to do with
the change of view on the subject. The start of the second stanza

Racism In America Essay
I choose the topic Racism in today s society because it is a topic that dramatically effects our way
of living. I believe racism is not something that not only affects certain people, racism affects
everyone.
My position on the topic of racism is that it s a negative faction in our society that results in death
of blacks and other minority groups.
The importance of racism in America.
Racism in the U.S. is important and should be know because it is an important part in our history
that shaped America. People are not born racist, people who are racist were usually raised in an
atmosphere that embraced it. Racism is a negative faction in our society that affects you and
everyone around you. Racism can sometimes be the result in deaths of minority groups. With
racism in every corner it leads to people questioning their safety in a government that may have
racist authorities who can misuse their power.

The Fall of the Aztec Empire
Abstract:
The Aztec civilization during its peak was the strongest civilization in the western hemisphere.
When the Spaniards first set foot in the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, they could not believe that a
civilization so primitive in their minds could have been so culturally developed and powerful.
However, before making it to Tenochtitlan, they had discovered that all was not well in the Aztec
empire. From many native Indians that had tension with the Aztecs, they learned of internal and pre
existing problems that existed. This investigation examines to what extent where those internal and
pre existing factors to blame for the downfall of the Aztec Empire. The investigation was
undertaken using some of the only primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the story of the Aztec defeat and the successful resolution of the Spanish mission against
incredible odds raises many questions. Regardless of more advanced technology and weapons, the
Spanish force was vastly outnumbered and began a military campaign poorly supplied within an
unknown territory against an unknown enemy. This paper explores the possibility that other key
factors were at play, which provided the Spanish with a several of advantages and facilitated the
successful resolution of their campaign. Furthermore, these factors allowed for an incredibly quick
and effective subjugation of millions of people considering that by comparison it took hundreds of
years to expel the Muslim armies from southern Spain, a war ending in 1492 and in which many
conquistadores fighting in the new world took part of. This paper will argue that internal religious
quarrels, unsustainable tax obligations, and continuing military conflicts weakened the Aztec social
fabric by increasing resentment among subjugated towns and cities and diminishing trust among
Aztec citizens in their highly centralized government. To begin with, it is important to understand
the city states did not outline the division of politics, society, religion, and economy as clearly as
modern day western societies do or even

Analysis Of The Article Tearing Up The Yellow Pages
David Dunne s article, Tearing Up the Yellow Pages was published March 30, 2010 in The
Mark. In this article, Professor Dunne predicts the almost certain demise of the Yellow Pages as a
printed paper medium. The very title of the article summons up an image of the Yellow Pages
being ripped up and tossed aside, of little use to the savvy, connected consumer of today. As well,
Dunne expresses his doubts as to whether the old school Yellow Pagespersona can be transposed
into a viable option as a digital choice in a technology obsessed world advancing at a rapid, user
driven pace. It is tired old thinking to search for information this way he maintains, and throughout
the article depicts Yellow Pages as a struggling company with an... Show more content on

His writing creates a sense of trepidation, alluding to the feeling of stepping from a dock onto a
boat that might sail away just as we are stepping aboard; this creates a perception of backing
away from the logo and the use of the Yellow Pages. I feel that in it s familiarity, the YP logo
instills instant recognition of what it is and what it can do. The internet by its very existence has
created a state of unpredictability for companies who find themselves in a position where they must
quickly adapt to changes initiated by the world wide web or fall behind. And so it is for Yellow
Pages. The company has recognized that digital business is exploding and has taken steps to re
vamp their website as an attractive and impressive medium filled with articles that entertain and
inform while still providing their key service business information search. Their challenge is to
attract and retain users (www.cbc.ca/player/Radio).
Dunne speaks of economic challenges that threaten the existence of a business; challenges that
require management to question the models that made it successful in the past and states that
businesses cling to their models, particularly at the worst of times. YP is clinging to few models of
the past, and is rapidly reinventing itself, reaching new heights

Difference Between Shallow And Deep Complexity
Abstract In order to understand fault structure, there is a need to first understand fault complexity.
Images of faults at depth and near surface reveal complexities that characterize properties such as
geometry, composition and stress states of that fault s structure. While this is true for both passive
and induced imaging, a true passive source image is without the changes in faultstructure due to any
induced mechanism. This is something to consider when discussing fault complexity at near
surface versus depth, as it is already difficult to distinguish the direction of complexity within a
fault already. Current seismic research has been unable to understand if fault complexity is
derived from a point at depth, or expands from surface complexity into depth. It is critical to
understand the relationship between shallow and deep complexity in order to predict where that
origin may have been and what caused its expansion. Passive source imaging has been able to help
describe the factors that attribute to this complexity by providing a way to visually see subsurface
data, but has not yet fully answered the complexity question.
Introduction
Fault structure is the aftermath of a slipping event in the lithosphere that produces high velocity
compression waves that can be imaged as they travel through and across the surface of the
lithosphere. These waves affect and change, or in other words add complexity to the structure of the
lithosphere within the fault zone. This

Theme Of Isolation In Catcher In The Rye
P.7 According to Merriam Webster, isolation is defined as to set apart from others . The novel,
The Catcher in the Rye and the film, Rebel Without a Cause both show how isolation affected
certain characters. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden is isolated from the community around
him. In Rebel Without a Cause, Plato is as well isolated, he doesn t have a relationship with
anyone at his school or at home. Holden and Plato are similar in the way that they both struggle
with isolation because they cannot make a personal connection or relate to anyone in their lives.
Holden s isolation stems from superiority, while Plato s isolations stems from an inferiority
complex. Holden shows many instances of isolation throughout the book because he thinks that
he is superior to everyone. For instance, Holden was at Ernie s he was listening to Ernie playing
the piano, he started to complain about how pathetic it was that Ernie was playing the piano for
a crowd. Anyway, when he was finished, and everybody was clapping their heads off, old Ernie
turned around on his stool and gave this very phony, humble bow. Like as if he was a helluva
humble guy... It was very phony I mean him being such a big snob and all (110). Holden was
jealous of Ernie because people were drawn to him and they like him. Holden immediately
concludes that there is a problem with Ernie. He does that because he thinks that he is superior to
everyone and that everyone else has the problem and not him. Holden s mindset of

King Creon In Sophocles Antigone
While reading the Greek play Antigone , written by the playwright Sophocles, one sees that a few
of the characters can be related back to the reader/watcher of the play. For instance, many people
can identify with the protagonist Antigone through her incomparable dedication in following the
laws of beings of greater power. Others might identify with the wise Tiresias, whose wisdom and
advice is given and taught across the land. However, for a fifteen year old boy such as I, I identify
the most with the antagonist of the play, King Creon. The way that Creon manages his problems,
very reminiscent to the way that many deal with the situations that they face in their lives; how he

To be able to speak confidently and know what you are talking about is one of the most
important abilities that one needs to convince others to join their cause. Just as King Creon did
in his reign over Thebes, I am able to use my words to the fullest. To cite the play that we had read
in class, Creon says: Polyneices, who broke his exile to come back with fire and sword against his
native city and the shrines of his father s gods, whose one idea was to spill the blood of his blood
and sell his own people into slavery (1, 34 37). When one reads Antigone without first reading the
plays Oedipus and Oedipus at Colonus, what Creon says isn t all that strange. Even so, if one has
looked through the first two plays, one realizes that Creon has used his words to completely
change the way that Polyneices is viewed by the townsfolk. Creon was able to use his words to
persuade others into believing that one of the sons of their old king was attacking Thebes to
deface their gods and sell all of them into slavery. In this sense of character, Creon and I are
homogenous beings. Identical to Creon, I can wrap people around my fingers via my words; a
blessed few are able to completely resist my

Invictus By Earnest Henley
The poem Invictus by William Earnest Henley is a poem that the audience can easily relate to. Its
talking about how they must overcome the trials that they have in life. Invictus is a lyrical poem
containing four stanzas with the rhyme scheme: ABAB CHCH EFEF GBGB. This poem was
written in the late 1800 s, but the meaning of this poem is everlasting and can be used even now in
the present and the future. Which is why this is one of the most known poems in the literature
world. The way Henley gets his outstanding message across in Invictus is portrayed through
different elements of speech. He uses metaphors, imagery , and personification. This poem is

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or a phrase is compared to an object or action
that otherwise wouldn t be the same. In using metaphors this elevated the images and emotions
that are described by the author. Out of the night that covers me (1) is the first metaphor that
will be read in the poem. Night is represents the feeling of suffering and pain that the author is
trying to describe during this poem. Also Night could be referring to the darkest part of the day
which would be comparing night to the worst that is to come. The next example of a metaphor
is in the third stanza. Looms but the horror of the shade (10). By saying that, shade is an
unexpected life event. Shade could also be used to foreshadow the incidents that are to come.
That will create a trail that one must overcome. The last example of a metaphor is also found in
the third stanza. And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid (11,12). The
term menace of the years signifies the coming of age. Then Henley states that he is not scared of
the upcoming years. In the lines of Invictus he also helps the reader to visualize the emotions and
pains that he is going through. Henley does a really good job of expressing the character trait of
bravery. This relates to another figure of speech that he uses very well to help us and it is,

Ambiguity In John Steinbeck s The Golden State
The concept of ambiguity had not been prevalent in society until the inception of the 20th century.
Its presence has always been subtle, but its impact can lead students and scholars down to roads of
new ideologies and even result in challenging the current standards of society. Ambiguity is the
quality of being open to more than one interpretation, and thus, it forces us to remain open minded.
Authors and artists such as Steinbeck, Didion, Kingston, Thiebaud, Shepard, and everyone else we
have encountered incorporate ambiguity as a way to provoke the reader and open up conversations
regarding the current state of California. Despite all the opportunities available in The Golden State,
it is indisputable that it is a placed filled with uncertainties. California, as a landmass, is filled with
rustic and natural beauty, yet for the past decades, it has not seen anything other than
industrialization. The state is a sanctuary for immigrants, yet they are discriminated and deported.
Laborers arrived, motivated to find work, but often found themselves exploited and worked to the
bone. African Americans established communities where they share their culture and values, but
are mocked and in turn, encounter institutionalized racism. So despite the opportunities that this
state promises, California is still paradoxical. To truly comprehend this notion, we can look at texts
such as In Dubious Battleby John Steinbeckand True West by Sam Shepard as examples, and
artwork such as

Pros And Cons Of Universal Health Care

For the basis of this argument, I will focus on key pros and cons.
By instituting a right to health care the U.S. could possibly lower cost, and make health care
services more affordable for everyone. According to a 2012 study, using a single payer system,
in which all citizens are guaranteed a right to health care, total public and private health care
spending could be lowered by $592 billion and up to 1.8 trillion over the next decade due to
lowered administrative and prescription drug cost. The cost of healthcare in America has
increased ( Health Affairs). A study done by Consumer reports in 2012 stated that paying for
health care is the top financial problem for US households. In Light of health care s expanding
costs, many Americans are delaying or not receiving treatment, as well as having trouble paying for
care. According to a study done by the American Journal of Public Health, Canada, a country that

Common Misconceptions on the Word Anime
It has always baffled me when I tell someone I love anime and they say they do not like it. They
sometimes say I hate all anime saying that they never could get into that genre. This is a statement
that gets my geek fathers rattled because anime is not a genre; it is an entire medium and whole
form of entertainment. It is a confusing statement to say because to me that is like saying you hate
all movies or TV shows. To traditional Americans who do not know a lot about anime, it tends to
have a stigma attached to it. Hence is why I decided to write about it as a social deviance. When
you talk to someone who has never experienced anime before, you tend to get some weird looks.
A common misconception is that all anime is pornography; they think all anime has tentacle
monsters waiting for that busty girl to pick up and rape. This misconception very much alienates
people away from anime. It is true there is a genre that is pornographic called hentai and is
specifically targeted at adults. Hentai is its own genre and most anime shows do not come close
to that line. Most people confuse hentai with shows that proved what is called fan service. Fan
service is a term coined from anime and manga fandom for material in a series, which is
deliberately added to please the audience. Fan service can be in both manga and anime and can

Child Support And Development Of Children And A Standard...
In today s society most families are female headed households. The upbringing and development of
children and a standard of living adequate for the children s development is a common
responsibility of both parents and a fundamental human right for children and asserts that the
primary responsibility to provide such for the children rests with their parent. (United Nations
Convention on the Right of the Child, 1992). Children have a right to a decent start in life. This
right is the obligation of the father and the motherto support the child s financial and emotionally
wellbeing. With the involvement of both parents, children get the chance they need and deserve to
reach their full potential.
Understanding child support and the duties and procedures can be a very difficult process for both
parents involved. Child support is a payment of money for a child under the age of 18 which has
been ordered by the circuit court within their jurisdiction. There are various approaches to
calculating the amount of child support award payments some jurisdictions consider multiple
sources of information when determining support, taking into account the income of the parents,
the number and ages of children living in the home, basic living expenses and school fees. Support
payments may include monthly or weekly, bi weekly collections of payments for expenses of
medical, dental, and other health care, child care expenses, and educational expenses. For instance,

like I dunno or idk from the internet. Unfortunately, I used to be one of those people. However,
over time I finally learned the difference between your and you re , and it was easy to just add an

and I had to do something about it. This sort of writing that I came into contact with transitioned
from text talk , which is a form of typing with no punctuation or capitalization, to the correct form
of grammar and spelling. For quite some time, I used MySpace to voice my 9 year old opinions.
This did not work out too well. I found myself typing words with numbers in them that made
sense in my head, but as I look back, I realize that I was only hurting my grammar and not making
it any better. I thought I was cool by typing like that, but by doing that, karma eventually came

Why Is Romeo And Juliet Not In Love
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is widely known as a tragic love story where two lovers devotion
leads to their demise. While the play leads the audience to believe that Romeo and Juliet are truly in
love, certain details from the play suggest otherwise. For example, the whole reason they commit
suicide is because of their lustful thinking and not of true love. Romeo and Juliet are not truly in
love because they rush into things unprepared, Romeo was just in love with Rosaline, and they
think about themselves throughout this predicament. Romeo and Juliet rush into this relationship
with each other, without thinking about the long term outcome, which conveys their lustful
thinking. Therefore, they only think about the here and now. In Scene 3 of Act 2, it says, When
and where and how/ We met, we wooed and made exchange of vow,/ I ll tell thee as we pass, but
this I pray:/ That thou consent to marry us today (Shakespeare, 2.3.61 64). At this point in the play,
Romeo is asking Friar Laurence to marry him and Juliet that same day. Furthermore, Romeo did not
even discuss this plan with Juliet. These two married each other within 12 hours of their meeting
and, therefore, these lovers are rushing their relationship, unprepared for... Show more content on

He was extremely depressed and absolutely nothing could help his disposition. When Romeo was
telling Benvolio about his love problem, he said, She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow/ Do
I live dead that live to tell it now (1.1.217 218). In other words, Romeo felt that because of
Rosaline s vow of virginity, he had no purpose to live. Then, only hours later, he forgets all of his
despair and suddenly loves Juliet as though he had never loved anyone before. This quick transition
from Rosaline to Juliet suggests that his love and devotion are not true, therefore, he is only lusting

A Company s Decision For Buy Navigation And Mapping Software
This scenario focuses on a company s decision to buy navigation and mapping software. The
manager of the company approaches their IT manager, Patrick, who is supposed to recommend the
best software. Although, Patrick does not commit any illegal offences, he shows through a number
of actions that he violates professional ethics. R Bradburn states that business ethics... is an
oxymoron suggesting that the idea of business can never coincide with ethics because business in
itself is too interested in expansion and selfish motives.
All IT professionals should meet the criteria of the British Computer Society Code of Conduct. The
BCS Code of Conduct states an employee should take into account Public Interests, Professional
Competence and Integrity, Duty to Relevant Authority and Duty to the Profession. The BCS Code
of Conduct seems to be based on Deontological Ethics as it states that it is an employee s duty to
fulfil these guidelines. Firstly, an interest in the effect on the public is vital to the maintenance of
ethics throughout a company. In a sense, a company cannot function properly without the support
of the public. Whereas, Professional Competence and Integrity indicates that an employee should
try to gain as much knowledge as possible to influence growth and improvement. This also indicates
that those seeking improvement within a company should encourage other employees to do the
same. The BCS section, Duty to Relevant Authority states that an employee

Management By Objectives Of Management
6. Management by Objectives
Since the early 1950 s, management by objectives has been a management principle or theory that
has been practice within both private and public sector corporations. It was first publicized by the
management expert Peter Drucker in 1954. Starbuck (2012) identified management by objectives as
Drucker s primary sources and contribution to his book The Practice of Management following the
developments of his ideas in his earlier books such as The Future of Industrial Man and Concept of
the Corporation which were published in 1942 and 1946 respectively. Subsequently, management
by objectives has gained an increasing publicity and largely influenced many industrial
organisations like Fords and General Motors amongst many others as shown in Peter Starbuck s
case studies (Starbuck, 2012:99) and is currently a taught topic within the academic curriculum for
areas such as management and administration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Philosophy Of Baptism Research Paper
Teaching
The Catholic church teaches that Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to
life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Baptism not only
purifies from all sins, but also makes the non believer a new creature, an adopted son of God, who
has become a partaker of the divine nature, member of Christ and co heir with him, and a temple of
the Holy Spirit. (CC:1265) Christ has ordained that Baptism should have the power of removing all
punishment for sin including Original Sin as well as any and all sins that may have been committed
by the person being baptized. This includes eternal punishment, as well as any temporal punishment
that was owed for sins committed beyond Original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CCC, n. 1266).
The three theological virtues that are infused in Baptism are faith, hope, and charity. Baptism is
the ordinary means of their infusion. Baptism then, puts into the soul a power to believe in the
word of God revealing, a power to hope in the promise of God proffering to man the vision of
Himself in heaven, and a power to love God above all things as a child loves its father, for in
Baptism we are made adopted children of God and heirs of heaven.
4.)Conferral of the right to special sacramental grace
By virtue of Baptism we are not only delivered from the greatest of all evils, but are also enriched
with invaluable goods and blessings
Baptism enables the baptised person to cope with suffering in this life, to resist sinful tendencies,
and to grow in holiness and live well the Christian life
Through Baptism our souls are replenished with divine grace, by which we are rendered just and
children of God and are made heirs to eternal

The Case Of Planned Parenthood V Casey
Spousal Notice This provision did not hold up in court because the spousal notice was deemed
unconstitutional in the case of Planned Parenthood v Casey (1992) (Casebriefs, n.d., Pennsylvania
General Assembly, 1982).
When Roe v Wade (1973) concluded that women were able to have a legal abortion, abortion rates
soared (New, 2011). When the provisions from the Pennsylvania Abortion Control act were put into
law, abortion rates declined. Between 1990 and 2005, the legal abortions declined significantly by
22.22 percent (New, 2011). It was deemed unconstitutional for men to know about their wives
abortions, contemplating that it may lead to abuse (O Brien, 2011). Men have an ethical argument

Partial Birth Abortion Act of 2003
The Partial Abortion Act was brought to the attention of the courts in 2003. Before this law, the
method for abortion, usually during the fifth month or later, was partially delivering the baby
alive before the skull was injured. The spinal cord was snipped by the physician, and the baby was
killed. This gruesome act was being performed daily by physicians. This law recognized that the
fetus was now a different being than the mother, instituting of murder, because the fetus was

U.s. Government During The Cold War
Tensions during the Cold War sparked many changes in American legislation, altering the way
many lived their lives. One of the most obvious areas of change is in education, with the fear of
Soviet dominance causing transformations across the nation. The severe adjustment of government
education changed the way students learned, the information taught in the classroom, and the
overall view of educationin the eyes of the public in a positive way.
Government Changes:
Summary:
Changes instigated by the U.S. government during the Cold War had a profound effect on the
educational landscape, as they altered how people viewed education, who had access to education,
what they were taught, how they were taught, etc. Although many changes were done on the local
and state level, the most considerable effects are seen after changes were made on the national
scale, in legislations such as the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and in government bodies
such as the Department of Education.
G.I. Bills(1944 1984):
The original G.I. Bill was signed into law in 1944, under the name Serviceman s Readjustment Act.
After WWI, millions of veterans returned home, only to face massive unemployment and a
recession. After WWII, twice as many veterans would return to similar issues if nothing was done.
With the chance of another recession looming, legislators created the Serviceman s Readjustment
Act. The act, which became known as the G.I. Bill, provided $500(about $6,757 today) to veterans

How Horses Changed The Lifestyle Of Indians
The introduction of horses has changed the lifestyle of Indians dramatically. The change, however,
has a good and a bad side. In the article, Hämäläinen indicated that Horses did bring new
possibilities, prosperity, and power to Plains Indians, but they also brought destabilization,
dispossession, and destruction (834). It happened in the late sixteenth century when the Spanish
approached the Great Plain. The horse changed the lives of buffalo hunters who turned to hunt for
trade from that for survival. The core of Comancbe pastoralism was intensive trade in horses and
mules, which was stimulated by a shifting political and economic geography (Hämäläinen,
837). The tribes of the southern Plains had to make a balance between the trade economy based on
horses and the subsistence economy based on bison. The southern Plains Indiansbecame pastoral
people who mainly lived on hunting and horse keeping. On the positive side, the horse has brought
wealth to Southern Plains Indians. On the negative side, it ended up as a disaster for the grassland
ecology and led to famine and drought.
Pueblo Revolt was led by the Pueblo Indians who drove the Spanish out of New Mexico,
confiscated their horse herds, and embarked on a vigorous livestock (Hämäläinen, 836). The
main tribes were Comanche and Utes. After the Revolt, the Comanches gradually approached to
equestrianism and finally transformed themselves into a fully mounted society. The amount of

Is Scrooge A Selfish Person
Even though Scrooge was selfish at the beginning he still should deserve a second chance. In the
Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a protagonist named Scrooge, was a selfish and mean
person but then he changes throughout the story. I describe him as selfish, unfriendly, and a
kind person. The reason why I described him as a selfish person is because he didn t give money
to the poors and thought they were scumbags. The second reason why I called Scrooge a
unfriendly person is because he didn t want to go to his nephew s dinner and he doesn t say kind
things to people. The last reason why I think Scrooge is a kind person is because at the end he gave
money to the poors and felt sorry for Tiny Tim. Scrooge does change from being selfish and
unfriendly person to a kind person in the end.
First, Scrooge is a selfish person and he only cares about himself. On page 256 Scrooge says, I wish
to be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish, sir, that is my answer. I don t make merry myself at
Christmas, and I can t afford to make idle people merry. This shows how Scrooge doesn t want to
help the poors which means he only cares about himself. On page 264 Belle says, We have never
lied to one another. May you be happy in the life you have chosen. This describes how he didn t
care about Belle or his girlfriend and only cared about his money. On page 268 Scrooge says, You
are the third. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Speak to me. Tell me what happen to me, to all

Essay on Alphonse Scarface Capone
Alphonse amp;#8220;Scarface ; Capone
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Alphonse Capone was born on January 17, 1899. He grew up in rough neighborhood in Brooklyn,
NY where he would attend school only up to the sixth grade, when dropped out. Capone got his

Capone joined his first gang when he became part of the James Street Gang, headed by the well

attorneys.
In 1934 Capone was transferred to Alcatraz, and in 1939 he was paroled. Suffering from syphilis
that had begun to drive him insane, Capone knew he could no longer run his Chicago empire, so

IMPORTANCE IN THE TWENTIES
In 1920 when prohibition became law, a large portion of the population still wanted alcohol. But
not many were willing to put themselves at risk to sell it to others. Some did take advantage of
prohibition, but none more than Al Capone. With the rise of the telephone, the increase of
automobiles, the invention of the Thompson machine guns Capone was able to create an illegal
empire like no other.
When in came to bootlegging during the time of prohibition, Capone knew how to get to people,
and how to make a huge profit out of it. Another thing Capone was good at was avoiding the law.

Moral Disagreement By Kwame Anthony Appiah
All around the world today, there is a lot of tension revolving around concepts of morality. In
Moral Disagreement by Kwame Anthony Appiah, Appiah writes about differing values and
morals around the world and within our society. He points out, we aren t the only people who
have the concepts of right and wrong, good and bad; every society, it seems, has terms that
correspond to these thin concepts (658). However, these concepts are not always the same with
each other in every society. In the same way that not everyone in our society believes in the same
moral concepts. Unfortunately, it is these disagreements that often separate us as people. Forming
different cultures, large and small, throughout the world. This is not a bad thing, but it does
separate us as a race, leaving us to care more for one group of people rather than humanity as a
whole. In Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism, by Martha Nussbaum, Nussbaum suggest that a way to
fix this problem, and to become a cosmopolitan person, is to teach students in our education
systems more of different cultures throughout the world. Yet not only should we learn to accept
other cultures and their beliefs, but we should also educate ourselves to accept everybody we
meet, giving respect to them as individuals, if we ever truly want to become a citizen of the world.
Acceptance is a quality that is lacking within the world. Many people do not want to accept that, for
example, not everybody thinks like the. In recognition of this

Man is God s best creation. His intelligence and thirst for knowledge has led him to explore even

earth s atmosphere ends is called outer space. Yuri Gagarin of Russia in 1961, became the first
man to go into space. He circled the earth in 108 minutes and returned safely. Later, in 1963,
Valentina Tereshkova became the first women to go into space. She stayed in orbit for 5 days and

Hair In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Historically, the pinnacle of beauty was a woman s hair. In cultures all around the world, hair was
considered to be the keeper of the soul and an important symbol of womanhood and virginal state.
Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock proves the ways in which hair was prized as an
embodiment of a woman s sexuality. In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market hair is used as a form of
currency and a vehicle for giving into temptation, eliciting notions of Eve s original sin.
Furthermore, the poem bears resemblance to Eve eating the forbidden fruit from the Garden of
Eden. An important similarity between these two is how each story is presented: through third
person omniscient. This perspective evades bias and favors morality. However, in Pope s... Show

By placing economic value on the hair of the women in each story, the women themselves are
debased. However, both victims of sexual trespass respond to their attackers in different ways.
In The Rape of the Lock Belinda completes the ongoing campaign of war by temporarily
incapacitating the Baron who cut her hair by blowing snuff in his eyes then wielding her
makeshift sword at him demanding that he restore the lock. Similar to how the sisters of Goblin
Market reach a peaceful resolution by the end, Belinda s hair will eventually grow back. The
now clichГ© makeover scene in Canto 1 symbolizes her transition from girlhood through
aesthetic alteration. This scene is reminiscent of a religious experience, a sacred rite. Belinda is
robed in white as her heavenly image appears in the mirror. In Rossetti s piece, Laura is rendered
physically incapable of reacting to the goblin men, so someone who cares about her must
sacrifice themselves. Laura s physical incapability symbolizes her lack of value now that she is
no longer virginal. Her disposability as a now sexually experienced woman is reflected during her
fruit feast when the poet notes that she flung away the emptied rinds. Laura could be considered an
emptied rind, as there is no return of her

American civic participation has changed in the 20th century. The first way civic participation has
changed is social liberation. Since the 1960s or so, exclusions on the basis of race and gender
have been breached. In the past, women and ethnic minorities were not allowed to join
organizations as members, so they joined partner organizations. However, some organizations were
unable to cope with change after the Civil Rights Movement happened and ideals changed and lost
membership. Another change is the decline in American patriotism. Skocpol writes, Patriotism,

Even though capitalism has its advantages such as fueling technological innovations, there are
some downsides to it. For example, capitalism creates inequalities and clear winners or losers in
society. However, some people blame the poor for their circumstances and attribute their economic
misfortune as due to a lack of morality (Lecture April 22, 2015).Those who blame the poor for
their laziness are unlikely to support welfare programs, such as food stamps, because they see those
as handouts. Other factors that divide United States citizens include LGBTQ issues, views of
centralized government, immigration, and gender issues. Americans are divided so politically due
to their personal stances on issues. Class, race, and gender definitely plays a role in the division.

Why The Slave Is The Fourth Of September By Frederick...
On July 5th, 1952, Frederick Douglass addressed the ladies of the Rochester Anti Slavery Sewing
society in his famous speech, titled What to the slave is the fourth of July? 1 In this address,
Douglass points out the hypocrisies between the principles of the American Constitution and the
way in which American society functioned at the time. Prior to this speech, his early experiences,
friendships, and observations of different aspects of society pushed him to advocate for the
participation of blacks in American democracy and freedom, and later in opposition to the many
voices within the abolitionist movement that argued for the opposite. While Douglass saw the
blatant contradictions between the words of the Revolution and the way in which marginalized
groups were treated by most of the ruling white male population, he was by no means against the
principles outlined within the Declaration of Independence or the United Statesas a nation. Douglass
s thought was very much an olive branch between the ruling white class and the enslaved and
disenfranchised black population. His self made story, inspiring influences, and determination to
promote American freedom amongst the many evil aspects in the country he lived in made him one
of the most important intellectual figures in the road to abolishing slavery.

mother and a white father whom he did not know. From his early days, he was able

whenever he can and even has a famous quote saying, If you want to get laid, go to college. If
you want an education, go to a library. But as I was saying he looked into Christianity and didn t
agree with it, he didn t like it. He soon named himself as an atheist, because he had his freedom
of opinion and that is what he thought. Though, Zappa did have kind things to say about
religion and Christianity and it is even shown in his music but his hate for the Christian religion
rooted off from the belief on how religion is anti intellectual and it promotes ignorance. Frank
Zappa is not a fan of religious leaders either, he doesn t agree with the wealth they gain from the
collections of their followers and doesn t agree with those who use religion to influence political
change. Frank Zappa didn t care for religion but he was inspired by so many things and led him to
belief of things such as freedom of speech, political participation and also the abolition of
censorship, he

Analysis Of A Thousand And One Nights
A Thousand and One Nights is a tale about the over sexed east which is favored by the sexually
repressed west when applied to and analyzed under the lens of Orientalism. This translation of
the text, while not as sexually explicit as Sir Richard Burton s translation, has its fair amount of
sexual promiscuity which paints the middle eastern characters as dishonest, violent, and sexually
deviant. These traits were seen as socially taboo to the west, especially those in Victorian Europe
who helped the tale gain its reputation as a popular exotic story. The two main scenes where
these traits come into play both take place within A Thousand and One Nights frame story with
Shahrayar and Shahzarman. Shahzarman kills his adulterous wife and her lover then leaves to
visit Shahrayar in his kingdom. When Shahrayar s wife and servants are caught in the act they are
killed and Shahrayar vows to kill his future brides on their wedding nights which is when
Shahrazad attempts to bring him to his senses. The two brothers are extremely hot headed and
violent and their wives are plagued by insatiable lust, which plays into the sexually charged
barbarity perpetuated by Orientalism. Throughout this paper I will be using Edward Said s
definition of Orientalism. Said defines Orientalism as the following: Orientalism can be discussed
and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient dealing with it by making
statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by

The Architecture Of Software Defined Radios Essay
2.1ARCHITECTURE OF SOFTWARE DEFINED RADIOS
As Reed (Reed, 2002) and others have stressed out, that the benefits of SDR approach go way
beyond the multimode operations. Other benefits stem from the flexibility that comes with
programmability. For instance, it can simplify design by allowing reuse of a common RF front end
with new designs or modes of operation available through software changes. It also enables
improvements to radio performance and functionality through application of digital signal
processing (DSP) to implement adaptive beamforming, interference mitigation, and numerous
other techniques either proven or in development. As the SDR approach has gained traction, a
variety of hardware and software tools for development and exploration have become available.
These tools are broadly accessible with reasonable cost and ease of use enabling new
opportunities for engineering education and research. Examples include National Instruments
(NI) universal software radio peripheral (USRP)/ NI LabVIEW software , the Ettus Research
USRP/ GNU s Not Unix (GNU) Radio, WARP , the Lyrtech SDR Platform and the IMEC SDR
Platform. For researchers, these platforms can provide a starting point for development of
prototypes operating on live signals. Such prototypes can effectively demonstrate the practical
viability of an implementation and are a step toward end deployment.
2.2THE NEED FOR SDR
The SDR offers a wide range of economic and deployment benefits which has attracted many

With a full basement, your foundation walls should be high enough so that you have at least seven
feet, four inches of head space in the finished basement. The finished foundation should be
waterproofed from the footing to the finish grade line. The foundation is poured, sleeves are
installed in the forms before pouring for such things as the water supply and the sewage outlet, the
pipe is placed through the hole and the space between the pipe and the wall is patched. This is the
easiest method used to get a tight, waterproof fit. .
7.) Rough In Plumbing: (2 4 days) Once the foundation is in and backfilled and tamped and
possibly soil treated, the plumber needs to install the sewer line and water pipes that will be under
the concrete.
8.) Flatwork for Basement Floors or Garages: (3 days) The top of the slab should be at least
eight inches above the finish grade. There will be a base for the slab, gravel or crushed stone to
form a layer four to six inches in depth. If poly goes down it is just prior to pouring the concrete.
Sometimes it is recommended and expansion joints of fiber board are installed around the perimeter
Garages are subject to extreme temperature changes and concrete expands and contracts with those
changes. The expansion joint permits this expansion without cracking the concrete.

Exploratory Response
Exploratory Essay 1: Reading This exploratory essay will examine Suheir Hammad s poem Break
as it speaks to the Humanities Methods in Ethnic Studies. My central analysis is that Hammad s
enthralling poem is predominately catered to the aspects of the human category of this assignment.
Furthermore, this poem can be viewed as counter hegemonic. It shows that her stanzas connote a re
enunciation of personality and requires a redistribution of emblematic power. Therefore, this poem
exhibits an innovative piece that points to more grounded potential outcomes for Middle Eastern
women dealing with the atrocities of war from a feminist critique point of view. The Poem speaks
to various issues such as relationality, difference, race, the human. The... Show more content on

According to Mary Jane Knopf Newman in her article Book Review: breaking poems she
maintains that Hammad s poem is Plaiting various broken sites from that summer New York,
Beirut, Gaza, Khan Yunis, Dahaysha refugee camp, Bombay, New Orleans, and Baghdad she
writes from her body in a way that resonates with the French feminist mode of Вґecriture
fВґeminine (264). Based on this evidence as we can see how and why in this poem we see these
different regions of the world and why she refers to her body within the context and form of the
poem. On page 11 we see how Hammad translates her body into language as the body of words and
spaces as a way to re construct the layers of damage caused by Israeli terrorism (Mary Jane Knopf
Newman 264). Making another solid parallel between Shohat and Hammad, on page 67 Shohat
states that the multicultural/transnationalist feminist critique of the production of knowledge
developed over the past decade has not lost its relevance; rather, it has gained renewed urgency (67).
Both authors seem to have that distinct connection with each other s literature while maintaining
the feminist mentality in the foreground as it pertains to their

In the preparation of agarose gel, agarose powder will be mixed with buffer. Agarose powders need
to be weighed first before mixing it with buffer. When 1 gram agarose gel is added, it will be
followed by 100 ml of buffer. The ratio is 1:100 for agarose powder and buffer respectively. Then,
the solution of agarose powder and buffer is put in the microwave in order to melt the agarose until
the solution become clear (Carson Robertson, 2005).
Agarose gel is poured in the casting trays. Actually casting trays is available various in sizes and

Besides, EtBr also function to alter DNA mass, rigidity and mobility, so it is one of the best
factors that affect the mobility of the DNA. EtBr need to be stored in the dark because they are
sensitive to light. To mix DNA sample and loading buffer, usually Parafilm is used. The sample
will be pipette on the mini gel. After that, the tank lid is placed, the current will be applied. When
stained with Ethidium bromide, the gel is viewed with an ultraviolet (UV) transilluminator
(Environment, Health Safety 2010). Usually for standard transilluminator it will use the
wavelength of 302/312 nm (UV B). Then, the DNA fragment will migrate through the gel and
illumination with the UV light will cause the intercalated dye to fluorescent with a pale pink
colour. The exposure of the UV light should be limited because exposure over the time limit will
cause the DNA to damage. Then, the transilluminator setting will change to the highest in order to
photograph the mini gel (Farrell, 2010). The larger fragment will fluoresce more intensely
compare to small fragment because larger fragment has more mass of DNA so it will take up more
dye.
In this Agarose Gel Electrophoresis (AGE) Analysis, we run our entire DNA from the previous
experiment 2A, 2B, and 2C; bacterial, plant and also animal s DNA sample. Based on the Figure

Analysis Of The Book Kazuo Ishiguro
Kazuo Ishiguro, although still alive, has already changed the face of the field of literature. He has
done this through the variant style with which he writes and the way that his Japanese background
influences his writing (Sim). He has a unique writing style that is seldom mirrored in the works of
other writers in the same genre (Brownstein). Many critics note that he is always producing
different books that have such diverse plots which proves that the most exciting thing about his
work is just this refusal to stand still as a writer, this desire to push the envelope (Sim). Kazuo
Ishigurois a writer who, like many, enjoys exploring a certain topic or emotion, and he especially
liked writingabout how regrets and memories affect people throughout life (Taylor). His utilization
of memories and regrets helps him make deep meaningful characters who allow people to
sympathize with their causes (Taylor). Kazuo Ishiguro s most important contribution to literature is
the variety he adds to his field by incorporating his Japanese heritage, his twist endings that
surprise readers, the emotions of memories and regret to allow for realistic characters, and his
diverse range of writing.
Kazuo Ishiguro is a British writer who specializes in contemporary fiction. Kazuo Ishiguro has a
vastly different background from other British writers in his field as he was born November 8,
1954 in Nagasaki, Japan and then moved to England at the age of five in 1960. He then went to

Reasons for the failure of 1848- 1849 revolutions in...
The revolutionaries in Italy had longstanding grievances, some were nationalists and some were
liberals. Despite all having different ideas and aims they all resoundingly agreed that Italy needed
change. The hopes of the various revolutionary groups had been raised by the election of Pope Pius
and Charles Albert the King of Piedmont Sardinia. However, their hopes and resulting revolutions
were crushed due to many concerning factors. A crushing factor of the failure of the revolutions
was the trouncing of the Piedmontese army at both the battles of Novara and Custoza. These
defeats were resounding as the Piedmontese army had no chance against the might of the super
power that was the Austrian army. The Piedmontese army met the forces of... Show more content on

Radetsky s army was not just huge but well led, organised and well equipped. Under such
authoritative and commanding leadership the Piedmontese army was soon defeated. Radetsky s
army in addition also crushed the revolts in Venice and Tuscany (who had declared themselves as
republics) and who had previously resisted Austrian siege warfare until February 1849. However, it
was not just the power of Austria and it s army which contributed to the failures of the revolutions,
but the revolutionaries also contributed to their own downfall. Despite wanting change in Italy,
there were numerous divisions between the revolutionaries such as the liberals and nationalists
having different aims and incompetence in the face of Austria. Such divisions not only affected
morale but had physical impacts such as in the battle of Custoza where the Papal States and Naples
withdrew their troops in favour of their own interests. Furthermore, the divisions between the
revolutionaries were accentuated when the Roman Republic was declared in favour of the Pope
being the leader of the Papal States. The previous Pope, Pius IX had fled to Naples after not being
able to declare war on a fellow Catholic state and continued to work with a constitutional
government until his flight from Rome. The republic was led by Mazzini who took care of all
political issues and provided inspiration whilst Garibaldi was in charge of

Mayan God Research Paper
On the other side of the world, the Mayans recognized maize as an important part of their culture.
It was a staple crop that could be grown throughout the Mesoamerican landscape and provides
rich nutritional carbohydrates to Mayan diets. The crop was so central in the way of life of the
Mayan people that it was often depicted in the myths. In mythology, Mayans believe that maize
was the crop that the Mayan gods had used in order to create humans after the failure of mud and
wood. Maize was considered the very staff of human life ( Maya Religion. ). Thus, Mayans crafted
the mythological figure known as the Maize God. Maize was depicted in the story of the Hero

who appears on earth as corn (Mark). He is depicted as a young and handsome man in one

used in offering. The Mayans then, planted the seeds of the Maize, which would allow the
Maize god to be reborn once again with the help of the earth s regenerative forces. The Mayan
maize god was not simply associated with the maize crop but he represented the beliefs of the
Mayan people. The life cycle of the Maize god represented the different life cycles that the
Mayans used to understand their environment: the cycle of rebirth, the cycle of seasons and
agriculture, and the human life cycle ( The Maya Maize God. ). The Maize God also represented
the nature of relationships among the Mayans, there had to be death in order to create life. The
death of the Maize God gives life to the people who eat him. The way the Mayans viewed the
figure of the Maize god is similar to the way the people in Scotland viewed the barley crop, which

Why do we observe and assess
Children are observed in order to acquire information regarding learning unlikely to be seen
through testing. Clark and Moss (2001 in ST9), for example, suggest that observation helps to build
a complete picture of a child. From a sociocultural perspective, teachers who subsequently adapt
practice, following analysis of observation, ensure opportunities are provided for children to link
new experiences to previous learning, therefore working within the child s zone of proximal
development . Throughout observation it is important that no preconceived judgements are held.
Pollard (2008 in ST6) suggests that observations should be descriptive, dispassionate, discerning
and diagnostic, thus meaning observations will be objective . School staff will often use

that people on the news stations do take side. CNN and BBC take a far more left stance on

  • 2. Attitudes And Beliefs Revisited. The American Counseling Attitudes and Beliefs Revisited The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (2014) requires counselors to respect and promote client autonomy, and withhold imposing their personal values onto client. This is particularly difficult when counselors hold deep beliefs that are fundamentally opposed to client s goals. The ACA code of ethics (2014) states that the primary goal of counseling is ...to respect the dignity and promote the welfare of clients (1.A.1). Self awareness and evaluation is critical to best care practice, as counselors may not be consciously aware of the values they hold or place upon their clients (American Counseling Association, 2014). This is also helpful for counselors in training who are Christians, and it was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a pitfall that I am striving to overcome however, with the first step of being aware of my particular weaknesses. Secondly I realized if I rejected working with a gay or lesbian couple on the basis that I objected to their lifestyle, logic then dictates that I approve of the lifestyle of all the other clients with whom I work. Additionally, I realize that I have a particular aversion to working with gay or lesbian couples (as opposed to couples who are living together), and this is also an area that I am currently addressing. In conclusion, I recognize that my job as a counselor involves respecting the role and the duties it entails. I would feel more uncomfortable working with this set of clients, however I believe I would still be able to do my job well. It is the duty of the pastor and the evangelists to promote what the Bible says about marriage and family, and it is my duty to ethically perform my job and trust that God will us it for His glory. A Gay or Lesbian Couple Wanting to Adopt a Child This is a similar issue to the previous, however it is more difficult for me because there is now explicitly a third party involved. My personal value is that God designed children to be raised by married, heterosexual parents. Additionally, I suspect the conditions of foster care are not ideal either. • 3. Educational Education And Special Education According to the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, 89% of children with moderate learning difficulties, 24% of children with severe learning difficulties and 18% of children with profound multiple learning difficulties are educated in mainstream schools. Something so prevalent must surely be effective. However, that is not always the case. It s disheartening watching these mainstreamed students struggle socially and academically. Either looked over or coddled by general education teachers; teachers without the proper training, no less, expected to properly instruct these students with intellectual disabilities. Kids that are always expected too much of or doubted indefinitely. These are the children that don t belong in a general education classroom. While mainstreaming, the act of blending general education and special educationclasses, can possess benefits for both general education and special education pupils, it should not be implemented in school systems as it creates a more disruptive environment that campaigns for inhibited learning. But that s only the inauguration of the series of issues present here. The concept of mainstreaming is based on the fact that a student with disabilities may benefit both socially and academically from being assigned to a general education classroom rather than a special education classroom (Perles). A mainstreamed student may have slight adjustments in how they are assessed, but they learn mostly the same material and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing and contrasting two Poems on the theme of childhood Having read the four poems from Seamus Heaney s collection Death of a Naturalist , I have decided to Compare and contrast the two poems that I like best, which are Death of a naturalist and Follower . Both of these are childhood stories set in the countryside. These reflect how Heaney felt about different aspects of life in his surroundings. This is one of the reasons that I have chosen these two poems the idea of the countryside makes me feel at home with these two poems. Racism in the U.S. is important and should be know because it is an important part in our history that shaped America. • 8. The Fall of the Aztec Empire Abstract: The Aztec civilization during its peak was the strongest civilization in the western hemisphere. When the Spaniards first set foot in the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, they could not believe that a civilization so primitive in their minds could have been so culturally developed and powerful. However, before making it to Tenochtitlan, they had discovered that all was not well in the Aztec empire. From many native Indians that had tension with the Aztecs, they learned of internal and pre existing problems that existed. This investigation examines to what extent where those internal and pre existing factors to blame for the downfall of the Aztec Empire. The investigation was undertaken using some of the only primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the story of the Aztec defeat and the successful resolution of the Spanish mission against incredible odds raises many questions. Regardless of more advanced technology and weapons, the Spanish force was vastly outnumbered and began a military campaign poorly supplied within an unknown territory against an unknown enemy. This paper explores the possibility that other key factors were at play, which provided the Spanish with a several of advantages and facilitated the successful resolution of their campaign. Furthermore, these factors allowed for an incredibly quick and effective subjugation of millions of people considering that by comparison it took hundreds of years to expel the Muslim armies from southern Spain, a war ending in 1492 and in which many conquistadores fighting in the new world took part of. This paper will argue that internal religious quarrels, unsustainable tax obligations, and continuing military conflicts weakened the Aztec social fabric by increasing resentment among subjugated towns and cities and diminishing trust among Aztec citizens in their highly centralized government. To begin with, it is important to understand the city states did not outline the division of politics, society, religion, and economy as clearly as modern day western societies do or even ... In this article, Professor Dunne predicts the almost certain demise of the Yellow Pages as a printed paper medium. The very title of the article summons up an image of the Yellow Pages being ripped up and tossed aside, of little use to the savvy, connected consumer of today. As well, Dunne expresses his doubts as to whether the old school Yellow Pagespersona can be transposed into a viable option as a digital choice in a technology obsessed world advancing at a rapid, user driven pace. The internet by its very existence has created a state of unpredictability for companies who find themselves in a position where they must quickly adapt to changes initiated by the world wide web or fall behind. And so it is for Yellow Pages. The company has recognized that digital business is exploding and has taken steps to re vamp their website as an attractive and impressive medium filled with articles that entertain and inform while still providing their key service business information search. • 10. Difference Between Shallow And Deep Complexity Abstract In order to understand fault structure, there is a need to first understand fault complexity. Images of faults at depth and near surface reveal complexities that characterize properties such as geometry, composition and stress states of that fault s structure. While this is true for both passive and induced imaging, a true passive source image is without the changes in faultstructure due to any induced mechanism. This is something to consider when discussing fault complexity at near surface versus depth, as it is already difficult to distinguish the direction of complexity within a fault already. Current seismic research has been unable to understand if fault complexity is derived from a point at depth, or expands from surface complexity into depth. It is critical to understand the relationship between shallow and deep complexity in order to predict where that origin may have been and what caused its expansion. Passive source imaging has been able to help describe the factors that attribute to this complexity by providing a way to visually see subsurface data, but has not yet fully answered the complexity question. Introduction Fault structure is the aftermath of a slipping event in the lithosphere that produces high velocity compression waves that can be imaged as they travel through and across the surface of the lithosphere. These waves affect and change, or in other words add complexity to the structure of the lithosphere within the fault zone. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Theme Of Isolation In Catcher In The Rye P.7 According to Merriam Webster, isolation is defined as to set apart from others . The novel, The Catcher in the Rye and the film, Rebel Without a Cause both show how isolation affected certain characters. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden is isolated from the community around him. In Rebel Without a Cause, Plato is as well isolated, he doesn t have a relationship with anyone at his school or at home. Holden and Plato are similar in the way that they both struggle with isolation because they cannot make a personal connection or relate to anyone in their lives. Holden s isolation stems from superiority, while Plato s isolations stems from an inferiority complex. Holden shows many instances of isolation throughout the book because he thinks that he is superior to everyone. For instance, Holden was at Ernie s he was listening to Ernie playing the piano, he started to complain about how pathetic it was that Ernie was playing the piano for a crowd. Anyway, when he was finished, and everybody was clapping their heads off, old Ernie turned around on his stool and gave this very phony, humble bow. Like as if he was a helluva humble guy... It was very phony I mean him being such a big snob and all (110). Holden was jealous of Ernie because people were drawn to him and they like him. Holden immediately concludes that there is a problem with Ernie. He does that because he thinks that he is superior to everyone and that everyone else has the problem and not him. • 12. King Creon In Sophocles Antigone While reading the Greek play Antigone , written by the playwright Sophocles, one sees that a few of the characters can be related back to the reader/watcher of the play. For instance, many people can identify with the protagonist Antigone through her incomparable dedication in following the laws of beings of greater power. Others might identify with the wise Tiresias, whose wisdom and advice is given and taught across the land. However, for a fifteen year old boy such as I, I identify the most with the antagonist of the play, King Creon. The way that Creon manages his problems, very reminiscent to the way that many deal with the situations that they face in their lives; how he lets his anger and pride completely fuel every action that he takes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be able to speak confidently and know what you are talking about is one of the most important abilities that one needs to convince others to join their cause. Just as King Creon did in his reign over Thebes, I am able to use my words to the fullest. To cite the play that we had read in class, Creon says: Polyneices, who broke his exile to come back with fire and sword against his native city and the shrines of his father s gods, whose one idea was to spill the blood of his blood and sell his own people into slavery (1, 34 37). When one reads Antigone without first reading the plays Oedipus and Oedipus at Colonus, what Creon says isn t all that strange. Even so, if one has looked through the first two plays, one realizes that Creon has used his words to completely change the way that Polyneices is viewed by the townsfolk. Creon was able to use his words to persuade others into believing that one of the sons of their old king was attacking Thebes to deface their gods and sell all of them into slavery. In this sense of character, Creon and I are homogenous beings. Identical to Creon, I can wrap people around my fingers via my words; a blessed few are able to completely resist my ... Its talking about how they must overcome the trials that they have in life. Invictus is a lyrical poem containing four stanzas with the rhyme scheme: ABAB CHCH EFEF GBGB. This poem was written in the late 1800 s, but the meaning of this poem is everlasting and can be used even now in the present and the future. Which is why this is one of the most known poems in the literature world. The way Henley gets his outstanding message across in Invictus is portrayed through different elements of speech. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or a phrase is compared to an object or action that otherwise wouldn t be the same. In using metaphors this elevated the images and emotions that are described by the author. Out of the night that covers me (1) is the first metaphor that will be read in the poem. Night is represents the feeling of suffering and pain that the author is trying to describe during this poem. Also Night could be referring to the darkest part of the day which would be comparing night to the worst that is to come. The next example of a metaphor is in the third stanza. Looms but the horror of the shade (10). By saying that, shade is an unexpected life event. Shade could also be used to foreshadow the incidents that are to come. That will create a trail that one must overcome. The last example of a metaphor is also found in the third stanza. And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid (11,12). The term menace of the years signifies the coming of age. Then Henley states that he is not scared of the upcoming years. In the lines of Invictus he also helps the reader to visualize the emotions and pains that he is going through. Henley does a really good job of expressing the character trait of bravery. • 15. Ambiguity In John Steinbeck s The Golden State The concept of ambiguity had not been prevalent in society until the inception of the 20th century. Its presence has always been subtle, but its impact can lead students and scholars down to roads of new ideologies and even result in challenging the current standards of society. Ambiguity is the quality of being open to more than one interpretation, and thus, it forces us to remain open minded. Authors and artists such as Steinbeck, Didion, Kingston, Thiebaud, Shepard, and everyone else we have encountered incorporate ambiguity as a way to provoke the reader and open up conversations regarding the current state of California. Despite all the opportunities available in The Golden State, it is indisputable that it is a placed filled with uncertainties. California, as a landmass, is filled with rustic and natural beauty, yet for the past decades, it has not seen anything other than industrialization. The state is a sanctuary for immigrants, yet they are discriminated and deported. Laborers arrived, motivated to find work, but often found themselves exploited and worked to the bone. African Americans established communities where they share their culture and values, but are mocked and in turn, encounter institutionalized racism. So despite the opportunities that this state promises, California is still paradoxical. To truly comprehend this notion, we can look at texts such as In Dubious Battleby John Steinbeckand True West by Sam Shepard as examples, and artwork such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Common Misconceptions on the Word Anime It has always baffled me when I tell someone I love anime and they say they do not like it. They sometimes say I hate all anime saying that they never could get into that genre. This is a statement that gets my geek fathers rattled because anime is not a genre; it is an entire medium and whole form of entertainment. It is a confusing statement to say because to me that is like saying you hate all movies or TV shows. To traditional Americans who do not know a lot about anime, it tends to have a stigma attached to it. Hence is why I decided to write about it as a social deviance. When you talk to someone who has never experienced anime before, you tend to get some weird looks. A common misconception is that all anime is pornography; they think all anime has tentacle monsters waiting for that busty girl to pick up and rape. This misconception very much alienates people away from anime. It is true there is a genre that is pornographic called hentai and is specifically targeted at adults. Hentai is its own genre and most anime shows do not come close to that line. Most people confuse hentai with shows that proved what is called fan service. Fan service is a term coined from anime and manga fandom for material in a series, which is deliberately added to please the audience. Fan service can be in both manga and anime and can include racy, erotic, or sexual content such as nudity, up skirt glimpse of a characters underwear, shower scenes, characters wearing bathing suits, or ... • 19. Child Support And Development Of Children And A Standard... In today s society most families are female headed households. The upbringing and development of children and a standard of living adequate for the children s development is a common responsibility of both parents and a fundamental human right for children and asserts that the primary responsibility to provide such for the children rests with their parent. (United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child, 1992). Children have a right to a decent start in life. This right is the obligation of the father and the motherto support the child s financial and emotionally wellbeing. With the involvement of both parents, children get the chance they need and deserve to reach their full potential. Understanding child support and the duties and procedures can be a very difficult process for both parents involved. Child support is a payment of money for a child under the age of 18 which has been ordered by the circuit court within their jurisdiction. There are various approaches to calculating the amount of child support award payments some jurisdictions consider multiple sources of information when determining support, taking into account the income of the parents, the number and ages of children living in the home, basic living expenses and school fees. Support payments may include monthly or weekly, bi weekly collections of payments for expenses of medical, dental, and other health care, child care expenses, and educational expenses. I found myself typing words with numbers in them that made sense in my head, but as I look back, I realize that I was only hurting my grammar and not making it any better. I thought I was cool by typing like that, but by doing that, karma eventually came back in a not so pretty way. I can remember back to elementary school whenever Mrs. Beasley, my 3rd grade teacher, asked the class to write an autobiography. I thought and thought of what to write. Finally, my penwent to work and my autobiography rough draft was finished in less than 20 minutes. That night, my dad proofread my paper. Unfortunately, he found many errors. While the play leads the audience to believe that Romeo and Juliet are truly in love, certain details from the play suggest otherwise. For example, the whole reason they commit suicide is because of their lustful thinking and not of true love. Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love because they rush into things unprepared, Romeo was just in love with Rosaline, and they think about themselves throughout this predicament. Romeo and Juliet rush into this relationship with each other, without thinking about the long term outcome, which conveys their lustful thinking. Therefore, they only think about the here and now. In Scene 3 of Act 2, it says, When and where and how/ We met, we wooed and made exchange of vow,/ I ll tell thee as we pass, but this I pray:/ That thou consent to marry us today (Shakespeare, 2.3.61 64). It happened in the late sixteenth century when the Spanish approached the Great Plain. The horse changed the lives of buffalo hunters who turned to hunt for trade from that for survival. In Moral Disagreement by Kwame Anthony Appiah, Appiah writes about differing values and morals around the world and within our society. He points out, we aren t the only people who have the concepts of right and wrong, good and bad; every society, it seems, has terms that correspond to these thin concepts (658). However, these concepts are not always the same with each other in every society. In the same way that not everyone in our society believes in the same moral concepts. In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market hair is used as a form of currency and a vehicle for giving into temptation, eliciting notions of Eve s original sin. On July 5th, 1952, Frederick Douglass addressed the ladies of the Rochester Anti Slavery Sewing society in his famous speech, titled What to the slave is the fourth of July? 1 In this address, Douglass points out the hypocrisies between the principles of the American Constitution and the way in which American society functioned at the time. Prior to this speech, his early experiences, friendships, and observations of different aspects of society pushed him to advocate for the participation of blacks in American democracy and freedom, and later in opposition to the many voices within the abolitionist movement that argued for the opposite. While Douglass saw the blatant contradictions between the words of the Revolution and the way in which marginalized groups were treated by most of the ruling white male population, he was by no means against the principles outlined within the Declaration of Independence or the United Statesas a nation. Douglass s thought was very much an olive branch between the ruling white class and the enslaved and disenfranchised black population. His self made story, inspiring influences, and determination to promote American freedom amongst the many evil aspects in the country he lived in made him one of the most important intellectual figures in the road to abolishing slavery. • 44. Analysis Of A Thousand And One Nights A Thousand and One Nights is a tale about the over sexed east which is favored by the sexually repressed west when applied to and analyzed under the lens of Orientalism. This translation of the text, while not as sexually explicit as Sir Richard Burton s translation, has its fair amount of sexual promiscuity which paints the middle eastern characters as dishonest, violent, and sexually deviant. These traits were seen as socially taboo to the west, especially those in Victorian Europe who helped the tale gain its reputation as a popular exotic story. The two main scenes where these traits come into play both take place within A Thousand and One Nights frame story with Shahrayar and Shahzarman. Shahzarman kills his adulterous wife and her lover then leaves to visit Shahrayar in his kingdom. When Shahrayar s wife and servants are caught in the act they are killed and Shahrayar vows to kill his future brides on their wedding nights which is when Shahrazad attempts to bring him to his senses. The two brothers are extremely hot headed and violent and their wives are plagued by insatiable lust, which plays into the sexually charged barbarity perpetuated by Orientalism. Throughout this paper I will be using Edward Said s definition of Orientalism. Said defines Orientalism as the following: Orientalism can be discussed and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by ... • 45. The Architecture Of Software Defined Radios Essay 2.1ARCHITECTURE OF SOFTWARE DEFINED RADIOS As Reed (Reed, 2002) and others have stressed out, that the benefits of SDR approach go way beyond the multimode operations. Other benefits stem from the flexibility that comes with programmability. For instance, it can simplify design by allowing reuse of a common RF front end with new designs or modes of operation available through software changes. It also enables improvements to radio performance and functionality through application of digital signal processing (DSP) to implement adaptive beamforming, interference mitigation, and numerous other techniques either proven or in development. As the SDR approach has gained traction, a variety of hardware and software tools for development and exploration have become available. These tools are broadly accessible with reasonable cost and ease of use enabling new opportunities for engineering education and research. Examples include National Instruments (NI) universal software radio peripheral (USRP)/ NI LabVIEW software , the Ettus Research USRP/ GNU s Not Unix (GNU) Radio, WARP , the Lyrtech SDR Platform and the IMEC SDR Platform. For researchers, these platforms can provide a starting point for development of prototypes operating on live signals. Such prototypes can effectively demonstrate the practical viability of an implementation and are a step toward end deployment. 2.2THE NEED FOR SDR The SDR offers a wide range of economic and deployment benefits which has attracted many ...
