Similarities Between Martha Graham And Alvin Ailey
Recognized as two of the greatest, most profound choreographers of the 20th century Martha Graham
and Alvin Ailey forever changed the history and future of American Modern Dance. Both
choreographers have such inspirational backgrounds that enhance the emotions throughout their
pieces. In the peak of their careers, they fulfilled their accomplishments and goals. Being that they
were both American choreographers, their work was different for the most part but was similar at
some point. Martha Graham created a movement language based upon the expressive capacity of the
human body. Graham started teaching a group of dancers in 1926 who had eventually become
interested in her work. That was the start of the Martha Graham Studio. Martha Graham pushed ...

Graham inspired Ailey to go off and open his own successful dance company where he could inspire
others by his type of work he choreographed. They both moved to New York to sought new
opportunities. Their work had a sentiment background as to why they choreographed the type of art
they did in each and every performance. Graham and Ailey both thought it was important to add their
feelings and thought of how they felt about the theme of their work. Graham wanted to use release and
contraction in her works to express the body movements. Her work also reflects the American
atmosphere of the moment through her search for an identity. Ailey wanted to express the feelings of a
black person. His work is recognized for his artistic emphasis in black culture

Diet Anyalsis Essay
Nutrition is the science that studies food and how food nourishes our body and influences our health.
In life, many people do a lot of daily events and activities that help them enjoy being who they are.
People may enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the mall, going to an amusement park or simply
finding relaxation in nature. However one vital part of everyones life is of eating and finding the right
way to do so. Eating is a very enjoyable and delectable for everyone but should be done so, like
everything in life, in a smart and intelligent way. Being smart and perceptive when eating is a large
part of nutrition. Throughout the Diet Analysis Project, I was able to analyze and inspect my diet to

I will have to begin eating more carrots, egg yolk, broccoli, cantaloupe and drinking milk while doing
so, to increase my vitamin A (RAE) percentage. For my vitamin E percentage, milk and egg yolk will
help but I can also increase my whole grain foods and eat some sunflower seeds and nuts to get it up
where it needs to be. For my lacking vitamin D percentage I need to seriously increase my fatty fish
intake which is not difficult, due to my love of fish. Whole egg and beef liver will also both help in
getting more vitamin D in my diet.
My calorie intake overall was quite low equaling one thousand. My recommended intake was two
thousand. This wouldn t be as much of an issue if I was getting adequate exercise to burn the excess
calories and the calories I was consuming were equal to the calories I was burning. To correct this
through I will be increasing my exercise by running and lifting weights and ultimately once I start
boxing for a good period of time. I just recently started so Im looking forward to the improvements I
can make of that. Additionally I will need to watch high calorie foods and decrease my calorie intake
substantially.
Understanding that my body needs a certain number of calories to function at its prime, I realize that
when I do not eat enough, I can hurt my metabolism, lean tissue and weight management efforts. So I

Firewall Attack Essay
In the world of computer and network security, there are myriad ways to launch an attack, which, from
the perspective of a network, can usually be defined as traffic that has vicious intent. There are infinite
computer attacks that no firewall can prevent, such as those executed locally on the machine by a
malicious user. From the network s perspective, there are numerous types of attack. Attacks can be
grouped into two types: brute force and precision. Juniper Firewall has the capability to protect against
both types of attack. Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are one of the most well known network security
threats under brute force attacks, which is largely due to the high profile way in which they can ...

We can use flows or sessions as a way to determine whether traffic attempting to traverse the firewall
is legitimate. We control the state checking components resident in Juniper Firewall by configuring
flow settings. These settings allow you to configure state checking for various conditions on the
device. You can use flow settings to protect against TCP hijacking, and to generally ensure that the fire
wall is performing full state processing when desired. We take a case study of attack on a network and
perform study of the detection of the malicious packets on a Netscreen Firewall. A new solution for
securing enterprise networks will be developed here.
1. INTRODUCTION
A number of malicious attacks which causes disruption to the processes has been increased due to an
increase in the tremendous expansion in the field of computer networks. The main aim of network
administrators is to provide continuous services to which they are intended to. Currently, the main aim
of researchers is to provide secure network whereas, little intervention has been given to the
quantification of network security which includes assessing of the vulnerability and malicious attacks
to these systems. One of the huge networks which has more possibility to malware is an Enterprise
Network which is a large and diverse network that connects both major and minor sites within an
enterprise.Thesecurity and trustworthiness of Enterprise Networks have been a major concern in

My Cultural Identity
After countless tries by my ancestors to establish a life in the United States it seemed destiny had a
place for me. Come to think of it, may it wasn t destiny calling my family to cross the border, rather
our native land was calling us home. Still how colonized have I become to accept my new identity. In
the novel, Cruz comments that Esperanza changed her son s name from Robert to Bobby. (Loc. 215)
Call him Bobby. In America, he s Bobby, Esperanza said (Cruz). My parents didn t assimilate that
quickly. My full name is Socorro Martinez, and I m the youngest of eight children. My father came to
this country during the Bracer Act Program, after it was terminated in 1964 he worked in construction.
My mother followed six years later with three children, after losing her daughter to an illness. I was
named after my mother but was given the nick name Suki. Growing up no one called by my first
name. I built an identity based on my nick name, and slowly my cultural identity was diminishing.
I found it coincidental that like my family I too embarked in a journey and sacrificed for my children.
My husband, children and I moved Washington State two years ago. Just like Santo left the Dominican
Republic and Esperanza left Puerto Rico towards the United States to give their family a better life.
(Loc. 332) Although I was surrounded by a vast amount of greenery, I missed the sound and faces of
my culture. I couldn t blend in with the locals. Growing up in a barrio, I

Article: Does mandatory IFRS adoption improve information quality in low investor protection
countries? Introduction The article is showing the relationship between IFRS adoption and the effect
on the quality of the information in low investor protection countries. International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a set of accounting standards, developed and maintained by a not for
profit organisation which is called International Accounting Standard Board (IASB)
(http://www.ifrs.org/About us/Pages/What are IFRS.aspx). The purpose of IFRS is to provide a global
framework and also a general guideline to all firms such as public companies, so that they can prepare
and disclose their financial statement globally. It is interpreted as it can provide the investors and other

Essay on Standardized Safety with Tools and Checklist
The term safety comes first or more simply put, safety first, is a message that patients not only want to
hear, but also want to know is the focus of the professionals that are caring for them; in particular,
when they are under anesthesia and have limited or no ability to speak up or lookout for themselves.
The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) has implemented two initiatives; Rocognising and
Responding Appropriately to Early Signs of Deterioration in Hospitalised Patients (NPSA, 2007) and
How to Guide: Five Steps to Safer Surgery (NPSA, 2010). Understanding that human beings make up

These discoveries prompted change and allowed the National Institute of Health and Clinical
Excellence (NICE), to set standards to reduce unnecessary detriment to patients. Many tools were
introduced to assist in the consistency and accuracy of observations of patients physiological
conditions. ViEWS (VitalPac Early Warning Score) is a standardized and high tech scoring system that
helps recognize and respond to deteriorating patients. It is the basis of the newest warning system,
appropriately named National Early Warning System or NEWS (Featherstone, Prytherch, Schmidt

Conversely, the How to Guide: Five Steps to Safer Surgery is an adjunct to the World Health
Organization (WHO), Safe Surgery Saves Lives: The Second Global Patient Safety Challenge. In this,
the primary goal is to confirm that surgical teams not only communicate, but follow safety standards
in order to minimize common mistakes and insure the best outcome for surgical patients. The
standards included in this literature emphasize, improving anesthetic safety practices, ensuring surgery
is undertaken on the correct part of the body, preventing surgical site infections, and improving
communication and teamwork (Beaumont Russell, 2012). The actual checklist consists of the
following 5 step process:

Criminal Justice Criminology Essay
Criminal Justice Theorists attempted to find out a plausible scientific explanation to crime and
criminal behavior of individuals. At the same time, criminology emerged under the impact of other
sciences, such as psychology or sociology, for example. As a result, often criminology theories are
often intertwined with psychological or sociological concepts and theories as well as concepts and
theories from other sciences. The study of key works of criminology theorists can help to understand
better criminology, crime, criminal behavior and causes of crime. In this regard, it is possible the
distinct and persisting debate concerning causes of crimes and explanation of criminal behavior, which
is based on nature nurture debate, where internal factors, especially heredity, confront environmental,
external factors, such as social environment, economic position or social class of individuals, which
are viewed as determinant factors of criminal activities, but the development of polices related to such
issues as the police violence proves a significant, if not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this regard, the problem of police violence is one of the burning issues that affect the quality of
policing and police community relationships. Cases of police violence become more and more
frequent that undermines the confidence of community in the police. Therefore, the resolution of this
problem is essential but the resolution of the problem is possible only on the condition of the
elimination of its causes. In this regard, causes of police violence are diverse and this problem may be
driven by different factors, such as social biases and prejudices, the different social class background
of police officers and their victims, and other factors, which basically prove that police violence is
caused by environmental factors and its resolution requires not only changes in policies but also in
social norms and culture to prevent social, gender, race and any other biases to resolve the problem

UBS Television Network to go to extreme lengths by neglects any form of altruism or the wellbeing of

Southern Cross Austerio Case Summary
How much blame should be assigned to the DJs, to the station, and to the hospital for what happened?
The Djs, the stations and the hospital are all responsible for the crisis. I would blame the station most
for the death. Leaders are not the only one who are responsible to the death. We should blame DJs for
making the prank call. We can blame the hospital for what happened because the receptionist was not
on duty. However, it is the management decision to air the record. Even though they tried to contact
the hospital, but the hospital have no idea about the tape. Thus, the decision to air the tape is the key
reason for the crisis. How would you evaluate the crisis response of Southern Cross Austereo? What

A soft bird, standing in the cold wind ready to be one with the small child. The scarlet ibis is lifted
from the world, and once again flying free. James Hurst, author of The Scarlet Ibis introduces readers
to this very image through the life journey of his main character, Doodle. While Doodle is symbolized
by a bird, Hurst also uses other symbols and imagery to create a mournful tone throughout his short
story. Hurst uses the coffin and scarlet ibis to show symbolism. Hurst also uses the flower garden to
create a better tone. Direct words and thoughts from the characters, and images suggests that James
Hurst is mournful to the thought of death.

Related The Optimal Choice Rule Of The Leniency Program By...
Related the optimal choice rule of the leniency program by competition authority, Sauvagnat (2014)
use a model of collusion to study the relationship between number of reporting information by firms
and leniency rates. The former one depend the latter one. He found that a single informant rule , which
means leniency only to one firm, play more important role on cartel deterrence than the a first
informant rule if they want to minimize the fines reduction in whole cartels level. One the other hand,
he also mention that the risk of a single informant rule, which is the firm might be fair other firm will
report by competitor first, in practice, can be minimize if this rule can be during a period over which
the privacy of leniency applications could be guaranteed (Sauvagnat 2014, p 325).
Different ways have been taken to analysis the effect of leniency policy. Similar to Brenner (2009),
which provide the effects in short term and long term with the help of the leniency programs (see the
empirical discussion in section 4), Harrington and Chang (2009) providing a method by observing the
population of discovered cartels to measure the short run impact of program on cartel fighting and
present whether it can help decrease the rate of cartels. He concludes:
if these policies have, in fact, been effective in reducing the rate of cartel formation then we ought to
observe a short run increase in the duration of discovered cartels. The duration of discovered cartels

Ice cream is rather a complex mixture of different particles interacting with each other to create unique
properties of the food. The first component ice crystals are formed when water in ice cream base

freezing. Rapid freezing and constant churning of base lead water contents to form many minute sized
crystals. The texture of ice cream with many smaller ice crystals is better than that with fewer big
crystals. Also, by reducing the amount of water in the base that will be formed into ice crystals by
increasing other ingredients such as milk fat, sugar and other solids can be a way. However, while

But before the amphitheatres there were inn yards. The Elizabethan Inn yards were a fore runner to
Elizabethan Theatres such as the Globe Theatre. Elizabethan Inns were always popular. Not only did
they provide alcohol but they also provided rooms and lodgings for the Elizabethan traveller. All of
these amphitheatres consisted of a large open space in which the audience would stand. This open
space was called the pit and was meant for those people who couldn t afford a proper seat within the
theatre itself, this would usually cost only one penny. These audience members were called the
understanders as they were not as educated and high class. Behind the understanders would be three

Ancient Egyptians considered cats to be sacred. Killing a cat, even by accident could be punishable by
death. About 60 BC, Greek historian, Diodorus Siculus, witnessed a Roman accidentally kill an

Greek historian Herodotus wrote that in the event of a fire, men would guard the fire to make certain
that no cats ran into the flame. Herodotus also wrote that when a cat died, the household would go into

practice of mummification was extended to cats because of the deep respect the Egyptians had for

folk tales around the world. Furthermore, the most famous Shakespeare s play Hamlet is the longest
play in five acts. Not to mention, there is a lot of similarity between the two tales some are obvious
like the family unity or the Oedipal Complex, other are more concealed like the law of three or the law
of twins.
The law of three is a very noticeable element in many folk tales. In the family of Cinderella tale they
consist of two stepsisters and a stepmother, also to mention in the tale the time Cinderella should
return to her home is midnight (Glenning). We can reduce twelve to three by adding the two to one
add up to three. Furthermore, there are many examples to support the law of three in Hamlet the
Shakespeare s longest play, the king ghost appears three times and multiple lines declared up to three
times. With the present of Claudius in the Hamlet tragedy to represent a lover s triangle another
evidence of the law of three.
Since the start of the Hamlet play, Hamlet always acts in a logical and educated manner. He expresses
himself, and his actions by the power of reasoning and knowledge. It is proven, when Hamlet sees his
father s ghost, he does not immediately believe it is his father ghost, but instead, he says Let me not
burst in ignorance; but tell / Why thy canonized bones, hearsed in death, / Have burst their cerements .
. . Say, why is this? wherefore? what should we do? (I.iv.46 48,57). Hamlet was mystified by the
appearance of his father s ghost. Hamlet as a skeptical person was not sure how to act with the ghost
(Aboukhadijeh) , since his logical thinking figures that the sight of the ghost is impossible. on the
other hand, his emotion as a son to see his dead father contract with him. Nonetheless, he suppresses
his desire to see his father and maintain his doubts about the ghost. Hamlet

Summary Of The First Night By John Perry
The discussion of identity in philosophy has a history equal in length to philosophy itself.
Mathematics fundamentally relies on the Law of Identity, so it is a natural result that this law be
questions qualitatively as well. Therefore, for the unacquainted reader or those who wish to refresh
their knowledge, I will include an excessively brief overview of the relevant history leading toward
the main topic of the essay: John Perry s A Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality, and my
subsequent response. The summary will include a segments on the Greeks, Saint Aquinas, and
Cartesian Dualism. And will be followed by a brief introduction to Perry s dialogue. Finally, I will

Following this task, Miller then seeks to convince Weirob of the mere possibility of survival after
death, to which she forwards counters to. Perry uses this method to jump from position to position, so
that he can express and discuss many different perspectives on the topic. However, despite the
interesting qualities of these various positions, I wish to target the singular claim of Perry that he uses
as the basis for his dialogue. Through Weirob, Perry defines survival based on the ability of a person
to anticipate their future self (3). And, as a following claim, he defines identity as a combination of
survival and memory (4). Although the latter is relevant, the former is of utmost importance, as it is
the measure of survival that Perry uses throughout his dialogue. He defines survival as anticipation to
preclude anything that is not, in some way, a part of the person for them to anticipate its activity. If, as
I will show, this claim is inaccurate, the entire structure of his arguments

Mr Dollar Thesis
Shortly before his death, Jesus feet were washed in an expensive perfume by one of his followers; a
rare moment of excess in a life lived in humble means. For some of the people now leading
congregations in his name though, that rare moment of excess has turned into a lifestyle. One famous
example is the previously mentioned Rev. Creflo Dollar. The New York Times wrote in 2006, Mr.
Dollar, whose Rolls Royces, private jets, million dollar Atlanta home and $2.5 million Manhattan
apartment, furnish proof to his followers of the validity of his teachings, is a leading apostle of what is

It can be characterised as a wholesale commodification of religion, that is the selling off of religious
buildings, ideas and claims to authenticity in service to individual/ corporate profit and the promotion
of a particular worldview and mode of life, namely corporate capitalism (15). Carrette and King are
making an important observation that religion has become a good that can be sold and traded through
the idea that spirituality is a certain way of living. The Prosperity Gospel falls into this spirituality trap
that Carrette and King address. The ideas and claims are seen when prosperity preachers tell their
congregations that monetary donations will lead to an increase in personal wealth, and to better health.
Meanwhile the promotion of a particular worldview and mode of life is apparent when prosperity
preachers teach their followers that money and property are essential in God s plan for them, and it is
a sign of their spirituality when they prosper. In addition, the selling off of religious buildings can be
found in the numerous mega churches and multi million dollar mansions that prosperity preachers
inhabit. The wealth of these places sell the idea that fancy buildings are signs of a healthy spiritual
lifestyle being lived in God s favor. Overall,

The Great Depression And The New Deal Essay
The late 1930s were a time of great suffering and uncertainty in the United States. The country was
crippled by effects of the Great Depression; the result was a massive decline in jobs and economic
stability that dramatically impacted both rural and urban communities. Millions of Americans were
out of work, unable to support their families. State organizations and charities were unable to meet the
growing needs of the people and many were left to fend for themselves. The Great Depression brought
with it a legitimate, tangible fear about the future of America and its citizens. Upon the outcry of the
American people a New Deal was struck giving the citizens of America a lifeline of hope in the ever
growing State. The New Deal was a succession of programs, organizations and laws, enacted by
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, directly addressing the issues of jobs, welfare and uncertainty
through direct federal involvement. The creators of the New Deal worked across party lines to reshape
the norms of state involvement whilst making a great legislative effort to turn the declining economy
around. The New Deal reshaped the federal government s relationship with its citizens in a time of
economic uncertainty helping to grow the State in a time of peace. The state is best understood in
relation to a government s power, influence and involvement with citizens rights in a given territory.
The larger the state the more involved it is in the lives of its citizens.

Deviance Is Socially Constructed
Deviance is any behavior that does not conform to social expectations. The statement, Deviance is
socially constructed means that because individuals that rebel against the norms of social group, and
use deviant behavior, others will join in and this creates a whole new social group. For instance, gay
marriage. This has always been considered something wrong and people shouldn t do it. Although,
people started to become deviant and say that it isn t wrong and that people should be able to love who
they so please. Now, since the summer of 2015, gay marriage has been legalized all across the nation
and all of these people fit under one social group. Deviance is relative because the rules for each group

Specific Purpose: I will inform my audience about Narcotics Anonymous.
Central Idea: Narcotics Anonymous is a worldwide self help organization that has been around for
many years and continues to impact our society.

Attention Getter: Imagine 60,000 people in one city, all dealing with the same problem, addiction.
According to an article written by Carter M. Yang for ABC news on March 14th of this year, there are
60, 000 people in Baltimore alone that are addicted to illicit drugs. These numbers are disheartening
and unfortunate. I can relate to every one of these people struggling with substance abuse, because I

Heroism In Short Stories
Heroism is a concept that is involved in many short stories, books and poems. A hero is someone who
us as a reader root for throughout the story. Any hero may have noble accomplishments and qualities
in their life. Though we are able to see heroes in many stories, there are also people who are
antiheroes. The story The Power and The Glory by Graham Greene is an example of a story that
involves an antihero represented as the whiskey priest. In The Power And The Glory and in the United
States president Donald Trump we are able to see examples of antiheroes. It is important to note that
there are two types of heroes. A normal hero is someone who we enjoy and want to see prosper, he or
she will have great accomplishments and abilities. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story takes place in the 1930s and 40s Mexico where the Catholic religion is outlawed. This
makes for a very hard life for the priest. With all the anxiety and stress of trying not to be caught by
those of authority he turns to drinking to help him. The characteristic of an antihero we see in this
example is that most antiheroes usually do what they think is right for them. In this case the priest
thinks that he needs to turn to drinking to help him. Here are some examples of how the priest from
The Power and The Glory is an antihero. In today s world there is a very popular antihero that has
been making news headlines for the last couple of years. That person is Donald Trump, the president
of the United States of America. Greed was a characteristic that the whiskey priest contained and same
is true for this antihero. He has said that he wants rich people like himself to pay less taxes meaning he
wants as much money as possible a very common characteristic of an antihero. Your typical anti hero
will usually be someone who is misunderstood and not relatable to the general population and society.
He grew up very wealthy and was granted a 1 million dollar loan to start his company and is president
of a county. This is an example of something that very many people can relate to and never will be
able to.

Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military
1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate
relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The
example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at
Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers
are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles.
Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health
and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members
of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers.
As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking
about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support
from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military.
In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a
very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private
troubles is very important. 2. Sociological Concept: The book defines in group as, a category of
people who share a common identity and sense of belonging (Witt,

Comparing Medieval Chants and 20th Century Rap Essay
Comparing Medieval Chants and 20th Century Rap
Medieval chants and Twentieth Century rap are both musical forms that have many similarities and
differences. There are many aspects to these two musical forms.
These aspects include creation, development and history. In both their purpose and audience, chants
and rap can be both similar, but at the same time, completely different.
The way that they are performed and set up, or structured, is where the most evident differences occur.
The Medieval chant, also known as the Gregorian chant, has been credited to
Pope Gregory I. Medieval chants originated around the year 600 A.D. The purpose behind the creation
of chant was to fight the political, and somewhat social, stress ... Show more content on

the point where even Christians would soon become followers. In the
Medieval Period, there was hardly any division between sacred and secular music. Even though the
chants were known by all the people, there were still not considered the music of the people because
of the lack of division put forth. In this same way, rap and chants are very similar. Both, rap and chant,

Rap, however, had a huge variety of messages. Some very strong and powerful, while others were

Totalitarian Methods Of Domination
Arendt explained that totalitarian methods of domination are uniquely suited to programmes of mass
extermination such as the massacring of Jewish citizens in Germany by the Nazis (Arendt, 1979, p.
440). However, Anthony Court expands on Arendt s theory of totalitarianism by stating that previous
regimes of terror, does not simply aim to extinguish physical life but rather total terror is preceded by
the obliteration of civil and political rights as well as exclusion from the public sphere, the
confiscation of property and lastly the deportation and murder of entire extended families and their
surrounding communities (Court, 2008, p. 102). This definition is clearly seen throughout history
whether it be associated with World War II, Stalinism, ISIS, Al Qaeda or the frequent riots occurring
in western societies such as the Oakland 2009 riots, London 2011 riots or the Ferguson 2014/15 riots
with each riot strongly associated with racial tension and unrest. Each of these events have different
levels of totalitarianism but show that society does not learn from past events. Arendt explains that
totalitarianism is formed when governments have emerged as a result of the institutionalisation of
terror and violence (D Entreves, 2014). However since Stalinism and Nazism there has not been a
period of time where terror or violence has been extinguished, whether it be state racism, nationalism
or terrorism global society has not transitioned away from totalitarianism. Arendt

Symbolism In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
William Faulkner s classic short story, A Rose for Emily, is a Gothic Horror that discusses many of the
dark themes that characterized the Old South. Throughout the story, William Falkner uses the main
character of Emily Grierson to represent the death of the South after the Civil War. The most
significant theme in A Rose for Emily is death, which is symbolic of Emily s life and the life of the
Old South. After the defeat of the South in the Civil War, Emily s life is symbolically over as the days
of plantation life and Southern chivalry are all but over. This death is represented by Faulkner s
description of Emily s neighborhood, in which the narrator describes to us it was once an upper class
neighborhood has fallen into disrepair as the mansions are being replaced with cotton mills and
industrial sheds. It is because of this sudden change that Emily becomes enamored with death, which
is first depicted as when she resists giving up her dead father s body for burial. Another instance of
symbolism in A Rose for Emily is in the title itself. A rose is most often depicted as a symbol for love,
in which case Homer Barron is the rose for Emily. In the story, the narrator mentions that Emily s
father thought no man was good enough for or their family name, and she was never able to feel or

by reducing the amount of paid staff that would be on site. In addition, to defer the cost of this
program to the University, internships could be offered to students that are pursuing a degree in
Elementary Education or Human Development and Family Studies. For children that are in
elementary school UC Berkeley also offers transportation to and from the campus to your child s

these make attending classes easier on the non traditional student that may not be available at the

For a non traditional student, financial aid is difficult to find. Most grants are tailored toward the

American literature history. The most prominent fiction analysis of gang members and the produced
social conditions in the 1920s. The novel, The Great Gatsby shows an excellent portrayal of the 1920s
when it seemed that everything was possible then, or people thought it was. In the Great Gatsby, the

However, the foundation of the novel is the same as the time when the first settlers discovered the
promised land that was considered new at the time. Readers of Francis Scott Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby cannot help themselves but by thinking about how much of our dreams are actually reality and
if it is an illusion or not? I think that Francis Scott Fitzgerald perfectly described the actual nature and
concept of the American Dream. The American Dream s actual nature and the manners of people
trying to succeed in attaining the dream as well as some of the other main themes that are shown in
The Great Gatsby such as, the characters actions that they bring to the moral overtone. An ideal that
has been around since the beginning of American Literature is the American Dream. A question that
people would ask is What is the exact meaning of the famous American Dream? Many people would
answer this question by saying that the American Dream can mean people per suiting wealth and a

The Great Wave
Even though like many art form date back, painting being the oldest, they can for the most part all
interrelate with each other such as: music and dance, poetry and sculpture, music and drama and can
go together many different way depending on the person perspective, but the one that stands out the
most is poetry and painting. A prime example would be a the painting The Starry night and its
conjoining poem, but not allowed to use that one so the next best one is The Great Wave by Hokusai.
Most people when reading something they image it in the mind to help them to get a better
understanding of the poem, and what is going on allowing them to enjoy it more or to dislike the scene
that could be being portrayed. For example, in a quote from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though this poem is seem more descriptive telling a person what the painting is a about like in the
quote, Summer ! the painting is organized about a young reaper enjoying his noonday rest completely
relaxed from his morning labors sprawled in fact sleeping unbuttoned on his back. The paint is just
like that there is a white that looks like they have been working on it all morning and now it is time to
sit down relaxed a little, eat, and drink some food knowing that they re going to have to get back to
work when they are done but enjoying every moment of the time off. Just comparable the ending of
the poem, A spot of wine they gather gossiping under a tree whose shade carelessly he does not share
the resting center of their workaday world. This quote goes Beyond the moment capture in the
painting saying the live a simple life of hard labor by saying just the last to word, workaday world,
and that the little time they do have not working they take advantage of that time living it to the
fullest.
In conclusion, the interrelationship of poetry and painting is very prominent in art allowing the
observer to build a better image, and understand of both art form being it s a poem depicting a
painting or a panting making a poem in someone s mind with the lines and angles. Even still people
will always see indifferent way but with putting the two form together people will see the image more
clearly to them and may appreciate the quality of the

Essay On Wildfires
Wildfires are common natural disturbances in California. If the wildfires are intense, they can affect
the water quality of the impacted and surrounding area. Wildfires may alter surface runoff, promote
erosion, affect infiltration, increase sediment loads into bodies of water, increase the temperature of
water bodies, and increase nutrient concentrations in water systems. The resulting water quality
impacts can then affect aquatic life, the operation of water treatment facilities that treat drinking water,
the quality of the drinking water supply, and irrigation systems (Paige and Zygmunt 2012).
Soils in the forest generally have high infiltration rates. However, wildfires can impact infiltration by
exposing mineral soil to raindrop impact and splash that can seal soil pores at the surface (Ice et al.
2004). As a result of reduced infiltration, overland flow and surface erosion are prone to occur during
a storm event. According to the article The Science behind Wildfire Effects on Water Quality, Erosion,
the effects of runoff and erosion can be seen within a 100 mile radius of the fire ... Show more content

Phosphorous can often times be introduced into water bodies from sediment loads that emerge from
erosion. Nitrogen on the other hand, can be introduced to water bodies through plants. During
wildfires, the tissue from plants release nitrogen that can leach as nitrate and be transported into
bodies of water (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). Furthermore, nitrogen inputs may also stem from the fire
retardants used to put out the fire. Several of the fire retardants contain ammonia, nitrogen, and
phosphorus (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). If there is an excessive amount of these nutrients present in
water bodies, eutrophication may occur and in turn affect dissolved oxygen concentration levels. Low
dissolved oxygen levels can then stress the aquatic

American Library Association Vs. Salinger s The Catcher...
J.D. Salinger s, The Catcher in the Rye, holds the honor of appearing on Time magazine s 2010 list of
the 100 best English language novels written since 1923 (Lacayo). In contrast, the American Library
Association (ALA) notes that the novel also holds the dubious honor of being the tenth most
challenged book in the United States from 1990 to 1999. In 2001, 2005, and 2009 the book again
made the ALA top ten most frequently challenged book list (Banned and Challenged Books). In the
light of this history, the question arises as to what makes The Catcher in the Rye so divisive? Ever
since the novel first appeared in 1951, it has been challenged by critics who advocate removing it
from high school curriculums. These opponents of the novel fear the profanity and perceived
immorality of the central character, Holden Caulfield, will corrupt young adults. However, these harsh
critics fail to recognize that The Catcher in the Rye offers young adults profound moral lessons penned
with real world words they can identify with, and no person should be denied the right to read those
words. Salinger s protagonist, Holden Caulfied, narrates his adventure with words that express all the
angst, anger, and unpredictability of a typical seventeen year old. In his rants against society and
phonies, Holden freely swears his way through his story. The profanities that flow from Holden s
mouth are the everyday words often spoken by a young adult coming of age. As a result, his

The Gay Liberation Movement Of Manhattan, New York City
On June 28, 1969, the Gay Liberation Movement was sparked due to the Stonewall Riot in Manhattan,
New York City, (History.com Staff). The Stonewall was a gay club located in New York City. It was
often regulated and harassed by police officers but one day the LGBT decided to stand up for
themselves and fight back. Although the police were legally justified in raiding the club, which was
serving liquor without a license among other violations, New York s gay community had grown weary
of the police department targeting gay clubs, a majority of which had already been closed. The crowd
on the street watched quietly as Stonewall s employees were arrested, but when three drag queens and
a lesbian were forced into the paddy wagon, the crowd began throwing bottles at the police. The
officers were forced to take shelter inside the establishment, and two policemen were slightly injured
before reinforcements arrived to disperse the mob. The protest, however, spilled over into the
neighboring streets, and order was not restored until the deployment of New York s riot police. The
raid on the Stonewall Inn lead to many riots and created an uproar from the LGBT community,
(Teal). The Stonewall Riot was followed by several days of demonstrations in New York and was the
impetus for the formation of the Gay Liberation Front as well as other gay, lesbian, and bisexual civil
rights organizations. It is also regarded by many as history s first major protest on behalf of equal
rights for

It is proven, when Hamlet sees his father s ghost, he does not immediately believe it is his father ghost, but instead, he says Let me not burst in ignorance; but tell / Why thy canonized bones, hearsed in death, / Have burst their cerements . . . Say, why is this? wherefore? what should we do? (I.iv.46 48,57). Hamlet was mystified by the appearance of his father s ghost. Hamlet as a skeptical person was not sure how to act with the ghost (Aboukhadijeh) , since his logical thinking figures that the sight of the ghost is impossible. on the other hand, his emotion as a son to see his dead father contract with him. However, despite the interesting qualities of these various positions, I wish to target the singular claim of Perry that he uses as the basis for his dialogue. Through Weirob, Perry defines survival based on the ability of a person to anticipate their future self (3). And, as a following claim, he defines identity as a combination of survival and memory (4). Although the latter is relevant, the former is of utmost importance, as it is the measure of survival that Perry uses throughout his dialogue. He defines survival as anticipation to preclude anything that is not, in some way, a part of the person for them to anticipate its activity. For some of the people now leading congregations in his name though, that rare moment of excess has turned into a lifestyle. One famous example is the previously mentioned Rev. Creflo Dollar. The New York Times wrote in 2006, Mr. Dollar, whose Rolls Royces, private jets, million dollar Atlanta home and $2.5 million Manhattan apartment, furnish proof to his followers of the validity of his teachings, is a leading apostle of what is known as the prosperity gospel (Luo 1). The country was crippled by effects of the Great Depression; the result was a massive decline in jobs and economic stability that dramatically impacted both rural and urban communities. Millions of Americans were out of work, unable to support their families. State organizations and charities were unable to meet the growing needs of the people and many were left to fend for themselves. The Great Depression brought with it a legitimate, tangible fear about the future of America and its citizens. Upon the outcry of the American people a New Deal was struck giving the citizens of America a lifeline of hope in the ever growing State. The New Deal was a succession of programs, organizations and laws, enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, directly addressing the issues of jobs, welfare and uncertainty through direct federal involvement. The creators of the New Deal worked across party lines to reshape the norms of state involvement whilst making a great legislative effort to turn the declining economy around. The New Deal reshaped the federal government s relationship with its citizens in a time of economic uncertainty helping to grow the State in a time of peace. • 31. Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military 1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles. Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers. As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military. In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private troubles is very important. 2. • 34. Totalitarian Methods Of Domination Arendt explained that totalitarian methods of domination are uniquely suited to programmes of mass extermination such as the massacring of Jewish citizens in Germany by the Nazis (Arendt, 1979, p. 440). However, Anthony Court expands on Arendt s theory of totalitarianism by stating that previous regimes of terror, does not simply aim to extinguish physical life but rather total terror is preceded by the obliteration of civil and political rights as well as exclusion from the public sphere, the confiscation of property and lastly the deportation and murder of entire extended families and their surrounding communities (Court, 2008, p. 102). This definition is clearly seen throughout history whether it be associated with World War II, Stalinism, ISIS, Al Qaeda or the frequent riots occurring in western societies such as the Oakland 2009 riots, London 2011 riots or the Ferguson 2014/15 riots with each riot strongly associated with racial tension and unrest. Each of these events have different levels of totalitarianism but show that society does not learn from past events. Arendt explains that totalitarianism is formed when governments have emerged as a result of the institutionalisation of terror and violence (D Entreves, 2014). However since Stalinism and Nazism there has not been a period of time where terror or violence has been extinguished, whether it be state racism, nationalism or terrorism global society has not transitioned away from totalitarianism. The most significant theme in A Rose for Emily is death, which is symbolic of Emily s life and the life of the Old South. After the defeat of the South in the Civil War, Emily s life is symbolically over as the days of plantation life and Southern chivalry are all but over. The Great Wave Even though like many art form date back, painting being the oldest, they can for the most part all interrelate with each other such as: music and dance, poetry and sculpture, music and drama and can go together many different way depending on the person perspective, but the one that stands out the most is poetry and painting. A prime example would be a the painting The Starry night and its conjoining poem, but not allowed to use that one so the next best one is The Great Wave by Hokusai. Most people when reading something they image it in the mind to help them to get a better understanding of the poem, and what is going on allowing them to enjoy it more or to dislike the scene that could be being portrayed. For example, in a quote from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Essay On Wildfires Wildfires are common natural disturbances in California. If the wildfires are intense, they can affect the water quality of the impacted and surrounding area. Wildfires may alter surface runoff, promote erosion, affect infiltration, increase sediment loads into bodies of water, increase the temperature of water bodies, and increase nutrient concentrations in water systems. The resulting water quality impacts can then affect aquatic life, the operation of water treatment facilities that treat drinking water, the quality of the drinking water supply, and irrigation systems (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). Soils in the forest generally have high infiltration rates. However, wildfires can impact infiltration by exposing mineral soil to raindrop impact and splash that can seal soil pores at the surface (Ice et al. 2004). As a result of reduced infiltration, overland flow and surface erosion are prone to occur during a storm event. According to the article The Science behind Wildfire Effects on Water Quality, Erosion, the effects of runoff and erosion can be seen within a 100 mile radius of the fire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Phosphorous can often times be introduced into water bodies from sediment loads that emerge from erosion. Nitrogen on the other hand, can be introduced to water bodies through plants. During wildfires, the tissue from plants release nitrogen that can leach as nitrate and be transported into bodies of water (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). Furthermore, nitrogen inputs may also stem from the fire retardants used to put out the fire. Several of the fire retardants contain ammonia, nitrogen, and phosphorus (Paige and Zygmunt 2012). If there is an excessive amount of these nutrients present in water bodies, eutrophication may occur and in turn affect dissolved oxygen concentration levels. Low dissolved oxygen levels can then stress the aquatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. American Library Association Vs. Salinger s The Catcher... J.D. Salinger s, The Catcher in the Rye, holds the honor of appearing on Time magazine s 2010 list of the 100 best English language novels written since 1923 (Lacayo). In contrast, the American Library Association (ALA) notes that the novel also holds the dubious honor of being the tenth most challenged book in the United States from 1990 to 1999. In 2001, 2005, and 2009 the book again made the ALA top ten most frequently challenged book list (Banned and Challenged Books). In the light of this history, the question arises as to what makes The Catcher in the Rye so divisive? Ever since the novel first appeared in 1951, it has been challenged by critics who advocate removing it from high school curriculums. These opponents of the novel fear the profanity and perceived immorality of the central character, Holden Caulfield, will corrupt young adults. However, these harsh critics fail to recognize that The Catcher in the Rye offers young adults profound moral lessons penned with real world words they can identify with, and no person should be denied the right to read those words. Salinger s protagonist, Holden Caulfied, narrates his adventure with words that express all the angst, anger, and unpredictability of a typical seventeen year old. In his rants against society and phonies, Holden freely swears his way through his story. The profanities that flow from Holden s mouth are the everyday words often spoken by a young adult coming of age. As a result, his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Stonewall was a gay club located in New York City. It was often regulated and harassed by police officers but one day the LGBT decided to stand up for themselves and fight back. Although the police were legally justified in raiding the club, which was serving liquor without a license among other violations, New York s gay community had grown weary of the police department targeting gay clubs, a majority of which had already been closed. The crowd on the street watched quietly as Stonewall s employees were arrested, but when three drag queens and a lesbian were forced into the paddy wagon, the crowd began throwing bottles at the police. The officers were forced to take shelter inside the establishment, and two policemen were slightly injured before reinforcements arrived to disperse the mob. The protest, however, spilled over into the neighboring streets, and order was not restored until the deployment of New York s riot police. The raid on the Stonewall Inn lead to many riots and created an uproar from the LGBT community, (Teal). The Stonewall Riot was followed by several days of demonstrations in New York and was the impetus for the formation of the Gay Liberation Front as well as other gay, lesbian, and bisexual civil rights organizations.
