Krishna s Views On Religion
Krishna had been on his way to Canada but decided to delay his trip and accept the invite from an
older couple to stay in their home in Boise, Idaho. This couple welcomed other churchgoers to come
and listen to Krishna, and soon this became a nightly gathering of meetings. He would ask questions
and then use their answers to teach his views on religion. One question that he asked this small group
was, What is your personal philosophy? Everyone had the same response. Their answer was to follow
Jesus. Krishna nodded in agreement. He seemed warm and engaging, and somewhat charismatic as he
captivated his audience and commanded everyone s attention as he spoke. He had a certain way about
him that seemed to draw people in, and they believed

The Dialectic of Metafiction and Neorealism in Calvino s Baron in the Trees.
I agree to my books being read as existential or as structural works, as Marxist or neo Kantian,
Freudianly or Jungianly: but above all I am glad to see that no one key will open the lock .
The above quotation perhaps shows more than anything else the ambiguity of Calvino s works. The
obsession to label all narratives arises from our compulsion to make sense of this world, as literary
generic categories form part of our cosmologies. Calvino s work however, eludes us by drawing upon
multifarious techniques and images to create a narrative that defies all generic conventions.

Instead, these two antithetical elements work to create a symbiotic relationship, marked by a tenuous
balance which Calvino maintains in his fiction.
I shall first begin by examining the notions of metafiction and neorealism, looking at what these
genres entail, and how they would conventionally work in a narrative. Subsequently, I will then go on
to show how these two notions create the dialectic between fairy tale and realism in Calvino s Baron
In The Trees , thereby examining the reason underlying one of the most significant disputes over the
genre of his work. I will then look at the ways in which Baron In The Trees may be considered as
metafictional and also as neo realist. Consequently, I will then proceed to the various ways in which
this dialectic manifested, as well as the means by which Calvino maintains a tenuous balance these
two contrasting elements Lastly I will examine the reasons why the Calvino short story belies this
dialectic of contrasting elements.
Metafiction is fiction that draws attention to its own fictional status, and in doing so it acknowledges
no reality other than the one we construct for ourselves. In attempting to escape from the constructed
realities of language and signs, it seeks also to dispel our illusions of being able to portray reality in art
and in novels. Thus, by drawing attention to its fictionality,

The Process Of Integrated Environments In The Software...
The process of software development includes various phases where errors can occur in the product
even after using various tools and approaches. To control errors and possible risks in the development
process activities such as Verification, Validation and Testing (VV T) are implemented (Romano et al.,
2015). Also, managing the software development is a costly process that requires integration of testing
tools for the desired result. The desired result include actions such as better quality, low costs and
short executions of the software.
In (2015), Romano et al. proposed a strategy of deploying software testing tools in an integrated
environment to increase the productivity of software development. The integrated software testing ...

According to Romano et al. (2015), for this experiment, the web access is developed in Java, and the
following approach is applied to the integrated environment for tools:
Test cases are generated from the requirements of web application using various testing approaches
such as boundary value analysis, equivalence partitioning and systematic test (unit test, integration

The input for the TestLink tool is the test cases that are defined.
The expected input and output values are defined, and test cases are written using JUnit and Selenium
tools.
The case study process of the project is started using Jenkins to run the project build through Maven
and test cases through JUnit and Selenium.
The Jenkins calls the TestLink tool to check the status of the test cases at the end of the process.
The experiment is performed with fifteen build cases in the environment where some test cases have
given the output with different results, and some are not implemented. The proposed environment
provided with goals to conduct regression tests and it is not essential to rewrite all the test cases for
each project build. The case study used for this research has given the results successfully as expected

Frederick Cossom (Fred) Hollows was one of the greatest Australians who had ever lived. He is
known to be one of the most caring men in history who always put others before himself to help the
world be seen as a better place.
Fred Hollows was born on the 9th of April, 1929 in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was the second of four
boys in his family and he attended North East Valley Primary School and Palmerston North Boy s
High School growing up. He did well academically but only when he was interested in the subject and

Comparing J. Gordon Edwards And Richard Burton
During the twentieth century, more than twelve directors tried their hand at interpreting one of history
s greatest love stories. Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of
themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film
starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and
Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demille s version of the
tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike.
However, below the surface of Claudette Colbert s shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies
another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences
and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s.
This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc
Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold
lamé dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure
hugging gown remind the audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of
1930s Hollywood. The ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s. Several of Madeleine
Vionnet s designs feature both a ruched front and mermaid bottom, which may have served as

Examples Of Magical Realism In The Famished Road
Okri s story The Famished Road includes several features of magical realism. Precisely, instances of
hybridity happen often. The character Azaro wrongly believes a character by the river to be the ferry
man of the dead, he acquires that she is in fact a hybrid woman, young in body but with an old woman
s face . The illustration is also a hybrid of ancient custom and ritual. Also, The Famished Road
portrays the theme of political corruption and political struggle. The character Madame Koto is
implied in the corruption of modern Nigerian politics. She summarizes the new power herself, rather
than its transgression, foreshadowing the country s Civil War to come. Okri has also used ironic
distance in this novel..

Tone Of Alice In Wonderland
In the book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol there is a paragraph in Chapter two
that the author writes about Alice wondering who she truly is. She thinks she could a girl named
Mabel, who she seems to look down upon. The tone of the paragraph seems to be and upset and
gloomy based on the author s use of grammar and writing. For example, the punctuation used in the
paragraph. The tone would be, upset meaning being unhappy and gloomy meaning the feeling of
being distressed. One way to prove the tone of the paragraph is upset is the grammar in the whole
paragraph. The paragraph also has many interjections. Interjections are an abrupt remark, made
especially as an aside or interruption. Alice says things such as, Oh dear! . When it comes to the
punctuation, there are many things to be said. There are lots of exclamation marks! Which are used
when someone is surprised, angry or upset. Also, the author uses many commas in the paragraph,
leading on to several run on sentences. Both make the paragraph seem ... Show more content on

Alice complains of how Mabel has a poky little house, and no toys to play with and also says she is

Tone Of One Perfect Rose
At first glance the poem One Perfect Rose may seem like a poem about love and romance, but further
analysis shows the opposite. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they lead one to
believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden change in
tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the speaker s
tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the rose is anything but perfect. In a
way the poem seems to describe Parkers feelings about life, even though she had a lot going for her
she just wasn t satisfied. Because of the shift in tone, the poems entire meaning goes from sweet to a
bitter recount. The first opening line of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wants more than a rose, when she states. Why is it no one ever sent me yet one perfect limousine
do you suppose? The word limousine implies that she maybe materialistic. Upon this, as the reader,
one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written in 1937 when the
Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties, all she really wanted
was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is repeated throughout stanza 1
and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the mocking repetition of one perfect
indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose
becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly
changes when she states, do you suppose? . The question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on
more of a conversational tone. The poem suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of
Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for. They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line
11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my luck to get one perfect rose. The fact that she states ah no
signifies disappointment, but it also becomes more conversational instead of formal. In line 11 the
word, just my luck actually means that something unfortunate

How Iphone Is The Size Of Its Screen
Over the course of three years, the most meaningful change to the iPhone has been the size of its
screen. A phone with a bigger screen was all the consumer really wanted and if Apple wasn t willing
to provide them with that then Samsung would. After years of sticking with a 3.5 inch display and
watching Android competitors slowly increase their screen size while also increasing their sales,
Apple finally gave in to the obvious trend with the larger 4.7 inch iPhone 6 and huge 5.5 inch iPhone
6 Plus. However, as predicted, once Apple released their bigger screened iPhone 6 and 6 Plus,
Samsung s sales began to decrease. Now that Apple has an iPhone with a big screen and skyrocketing
sales there appears to be no obvious reason to make it better, but just like every year as technology
changes and improves there is always a demand on Apple to release their new upgraded phone, this
year s version being the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Apple s tagline for the iPhone 6S is the only thing that
s changed is everything , stating that the brand knows the phone bears a striking resemblance to its
2014 model despite the loads of changes made under the cover (Beavis 1). The reason behind the
similar appearance is due to it being an S year for the iPhone, which means the basic physical design
of the phone, has stayed the same while there has been a substantial revision to the internals making
them faster. S iPhones may lack the pizzazz of a completely new design, but the iPhone 6S with its

International Order And Its Effect On The World s The...
International order, though it may be fleeting in the grand scheme of history, seems to be at least on a
continuous track of lingering longer and longer each time before chaos takes over. The Persians,
Greeks, and Romans all seemed to enjoy ever increasing periods of relative peace at the top of their
systems of international order before it unraveled. Most of Europe was in good order on the tail of the
Industrial Revolution until some arch duke decided to vacation in Sarajevo. After each major conflict,
the world re shuffles itself and order is established again in some form or fashion. The players are
bigger and more numerous with greater consequences for conflict but order is still unseated from time
to time and the rules of the existing orders seem to change daily. Realism can explain this violent
cycle of order and disorder. States and even non state actors continuously seek to balance regional
power in order to secure their survival in a world dominated by fear and uncertainty; if unable to
balance that power through violent means, players will seek to form alliances and organizations to at
least prevent domination; once a status quo has been created and survival is temporarily assured,
players will seek to maintain life within that order; new members thrust the order back into violence
and potentially chaos if unable or unwilling to play by those rules. This cycle of power balancing can
be illustrated in three phases. International orders are created as

Ansel Adams photographer and artist
Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In England,
William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on paper. This
medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art today.
Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the artists eye,
it can only be manipulated with light and angles.
The photograph is a very powerful medium. The French painter Paul Delaroche exclaimed upon
seeing an early photograph from now on, painting is dead! (Sayre, 2000). Many critics did not take
photography seriously as a legitimate art form until the 20th century. With the ... Show more content

Black women and men from various African nations resided on the sugar plantations, including
Musungo Congos, Mandingos, Gangas, Lucumis and Carabalis. Montejo comments on the games
played by Africans, sugar refining in small mills, taverns that sold supplies to the slaves, and religious
practices. He rejects the myth that Africans committed suicide by hanging or drowning themselves,
but argues instead that they flew back to their homeland with a religious object (known as a prenda)
tied to their waist. Slaves loved music, particularly the use of the drum. Montejo laments that the
white man s music had no drum at all. Tasteless (Barnet 1994, p. 33). Montejo depicts the Africans
with whom he lived as people of great physical beauty, compassion, and sensuality. He also presents
clear evidence of the brutal treatment inflicted on these African slaves by masters and overseers.
Planters often locked their slaves in stocks for two or three months for minor offenses, and whipping

Brothers, Jacob Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm are known world wide as The Grimm Brothers

relationship to other languages as well as, German folklore, tales and literature. Through their lifelong
research into the German language they created their own Dictionary called, Grimm Law. The
Brothers also, published more than two hundred and ten German folk tales that they created from the
stories that the villagers and peasants told them. Originally, these stories were written for adult readers

Questions and Anwers about Singing
1. What is the difference between a vocal warm up and a vocal skills development time? A vocal
warm up is thought of as getting the juices flowing, whereas vocal skills are developed through
teaching singing strategies. Choir teachers need to have a variety of vocal exercises in their bag
because not every exercise will work for every student. The exercises used within a vocal warm up,
work to build proper posture, breathing, phonation, resonant tone production, range, agility, diction,
expression, aural acuity and sight reading skills. The best example I can think of between the
differences in a vocal warm up and developing vocal skill is sight reading. A vocal warm up is
something that anyone is able to do no matter how much vocal training they have had. A person that
has had no musical training would not be able to warm up on sight reading because they have never
read music. This student may be able to create proper posture and do vocal exercises but they would
not be able to sight read. A student that has been in an ensemble will have learned to sight read and
then will be able to do this as part of their vocal warm up. Vocal warm ups and vocal skill
development go hand in hand. It is difficult to have one without the other. Students are learning to use
their voice properly as they are doing vocal warm up exercises. 3. What is involved in energizing the
body? The first key to energizing the body is to energize the breath. Also, singers tend to carry a lot of

Nuclear Essay
The UK civil nuclear power industry initially started in 1946 followed by the establishment of one of
the world s first nuclear power plant in 1956 [23 24]. This commercial scale reactor was built in
southwest Scotland and given a name MAGNOX due to the fuel cladding (magnesium non oxidising
alloy) used to contain the fuels. The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uranium metal fuel to generate
thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within the core. Two
types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA) and Pile Grade B
(PGB). The former is used as a neutron moderator due to its high density and lower neutron
absorption, whereas the latter is mostly used as a reflector [23]. ... Show more content on

Currently, there are fifteen operating reactors in the UK with a combined total output around 8883
MWe, and one under construction [27]. Fourteen of the fifteen operating reactors are AGRs and
located at seven different power stations, making the AGRs the most dominant nuclear reactors in the
UK. The remaining two reactors (including the one under construction) are based on PWR design.
AGRs are the second generation of the UK nuclear power plants, and initially designed to improve the
steam cycle efficiency of the early reactor design (MAGNOX). This type of reactors exists only in the
UK and operated by EDF Energy (formerly British Energy). Since the AGRs first operation in 1976
they have become the UK s most dominant reactor after showing an increased economic benefits and
steam cycle efficiency approximately 42% compared with MAGNOX reactor, which has
approximately 31% efficiency [25]. AGRs are capable of producing peak fuel temperature
approximately 800 °C and the coolant gas temperature approximately 650 °C at 40 bars. The steam
generated by the AGRs can reach up to 540 °C at 165 bar, which is capable of driving the standard

indicator to someone s intelligence level. The blind do not always have the power to see into the future
just as those with sight are not always aware of their present day predicaments, but in Ancient Greek,
both of those are accurate. Sight and ignorance go hand in hand as well as blindness and knowledge
do in the story Oedipus by Sophocles. Sophocles uses irony to emphasize positives and negatives for
two men, Oedipus, King of Thebes and Tiresias, local Oracle. Oedipus has sight but lacks the ability
to fully comprehend situations in multiple scenes. He is unable to interpret many clues given to him
along the way, ultimately leading to his wife s (and mother s) death along with his own downfall as
well. Oedipus requested Tiresias to help him stop the plague by figuring out who killed Laius, the past
king of Thebes. When Tiresias was hesitant to tell Oedipus that he was the true murderer, he recanted
all the praise he gave the prophet and said, You will not explain / what you understand, but rather
intend / to betray us and destroy the city. / ... You worst of wicked men! (Sophocles 348 350, 353).
With this, the wise Tiresias said, You have found fault with my anger, but your own, / living within
you, you did not see, but blamed me (Sophocles 356 357). His anger for not receiving what he asked
of Tiresias was blinding, even though in the end it brings his Fate to the

What Did The Babylonians, Chinese Contribute To...
1. What did the Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Islamic, and Chinese contribute to
mathematics?
Babylonian: The base 60 system that is still used today in the division of hours into minutes and
seconds. They left clay tables that contained tables of multiplication, division, squares cubes, and
square roots, and the measurement of area and length. All of these allowed the solution of linear and
quadratic equation to be determined. They knew the Pythagoras Theory before invented and made
predictions of when an astronomical event will occur.
Egyptians: 1 Used math to solve practical problems (measuring time, the annual Nile flooding,
calculating area of land, bookkeeping, accounting, calculating taxes). 2 Introduced Approximation by
giving the approximate area of a circle. 3 Introduced the base 10 counting system they used for
measuring time, flood, areas and records.
Greeks: used math for music, made Pythagorean theorem, Euclidean algorithm, latitude and longitude,
buoyance, pi, exponents, odometer.
Pythagoras (theorem, discovered the square root of two p/q) and Thales (stated that since ABC are
points in a circle, AC must be the diameter and the angle computer design.
The American Census couldn t keep up with population growth that was done in paper.

Teratogenic Effects Of Alcohol On Fetus
Effects of Alcohol on Fetus
Teratogen Defined. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is known to have teratogenic effects.
Teratogen means that a particular agent is known to cause abnormalities on a developing embryo. The
teratogenic effect the alcohol will have on the embryo is highly dependent on dose and frequency of
consumption. As stated in the medical journal, Alcohol Abuse In Women, Exposure to heavy drinking
(over 48 60 gr. ethanol/day) may cause fetal alcohol syndrome; exposure to moderately high drinking,
between 24 48 gr. ethanol/day which may result mostly in alcohol effects.... (Ornoy, Ergaz 2010).

These three Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders may have mild to severe effects on the fetus. Fetal
Alcohol Syndrome, is known for the physical abnormalities it causes. Children with Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome have abnormal facial features, such as a smooth ridge between the nose and upper lip, small
head size, shorter than average height and low body weight. FAS also causes problems in the central
nervous system and may cause a wide range of behavioral issues (CDC,2015). Alcohol Related
Neurodevelopmental Disorder has properties that may not be readily visible right after birth. The
reason being that the disorder is based on the effects it has on the child intellectually and behaviorally.
These effects are prominently seen when the child is older. These children have difficulties with math,
memory, attention, judgment, and impulse control (CDC, 2015). The last Fetal Alcohol Spectrum
Disorder that will be discussed is Alcohol Related Birth Defects (ARBD). The defects associated with
this disorder are problems with the heart, kidneys, bones and hearing. Other consequences of alcohol
consumption while pregnant include spontaneous abortion, sleep and sucking problems as a baby, and
death. All of these consequences can be easily prevented if a mother chooses to abstain from drinking
while she is pregnant.

Refugee Blues By W. H. Auden
Born in England on February 21st, 1907, W. H. Auden was an English poet who wrote many poems
based on his personal experiences. In 1928, Auden left Britain and headed to Berlin for nine months.
During that period of time, he witnessed the rise of the Nazi party and the racial prejudice towards the
Jews. This, as well as the failure of the Evian Conference and Kristallnacht (night of broken glass),
influenced him to write the poem Refugee Blues in 1939, which was prior to the breakout of World
War II. Refugee Blues is considered to be timeless, and can be applied to anyone anytime, even with
the current relations between Europe and the Middle East. Throughout the poem, Auden uses a
diversity of language and linguistic devices to convey the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the poet was walking along the streets, he saw a door opened and a cat let in. Auden has compared
and contrasted the treatment of the Jews and various animals from the non Jewish. The Germans
treated their animals, who were of a lower status, better than the Jewish refugees. The animals were
immediately offered shelter and comfort, even though they did not ask for it. Yet, it was the opposite
for Jews. Despite them begging and pleading, the Germans turned a blind eye towards them. In
addition, the word door connotes with new opportunities and beginnings. This may symbolize that
even though the gateway for a new start may be just in front of the Jews, it is still impossible for them

Premium Pale Ale Case
The purpose of this memo is to explain the results of our variance analysis. We will discuss the
implications of each variance in relation to Dessert Valley s Premium Pale Ale and Blonde Lager.
A. Static budget variance analysis
Static budget variances provide an overall picture of whether planned results were achieved, and they
are a useful starting point for investigating sales revenue and fixed costs. However, static budget
variances make it difficult to determine whether a variance is due to a change in expected volume or to
other aspects of performance. Premium Pale Ale
Analysis shows an overall unfavourable result driven from an increase in variable costs driven from an
increase in quantity sold versus what was budgeted.

A Comparison Of Fried Veal Escalope With Raisins
The exchanges of cultural ideas have been critical to human development. This relates to how humans
have formed and used networks of trade and exchange through art and food. This exchange is evident
during the Roman Empire that grew to dominate Southwestern Europe, Southeastern Europe and the
Mediterranean area. As Roman civilization grew to dominate these areas, it captured and assimilated
the culture, enhancing its delicate dishes. Roman food is an expression of the cultural diffusion of the
people they interacted with and those they conquered. To analyze such cultural diffusion, the recipe

History Of Korean Comfort Women
The term comfort women describes the system of militarized and government sponsored prostitution
that frequently takes place on military bases. During World War Two Japan recruited hundreds of
thousands of women, over 80% of which were from Korea, to serve as comfort women. After the war,
Japan publically denied the existence of comfort women for years. Although the fight to bring justice
to the victims of the comfort system has been ongoing since the 1980 s and 1990 s it is even more

The UN Commission found after their investigation that Japan had, at the very least, violated the
International Labor Organization convention against forced labor that they had ratified in 1932. From
1993 94 the Japanese government tried unsuccessfully to establish a system to raise compensation
funds from NGO s which the movement rejected. It wasn t until August of 1995 when the then
Japanese president announced the Murayama plan to pay victims out of a private fund that many
women who were formally opposed decided to accept the payment. Once they accepted the payment
however suits were filed in Japanese courts that the compensation was too small for the damages
incurred but the suits were quickly overturned. The Japanese courts claimed that the women were well
over the statute of limitations for the crimes and they could not use the evidence of violation found by
the UN because international human rights laws pertained to countries, not individuals. Around 2000,
a private tribunal was set up by several NGO s which included several international judges and
prosecutors and ruled that there are no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity and charged
Japan with institutionalized sex slavery based on the Convention Concerning Forced Labor and the
Slavery Convention.

Ansel Adams Photographer and Artist Essay example
With ... Show more content on

Adams decision to be a full time photographer changed the photographic visions of the west. He spent
his time in National parks photographing the immense beauty of nature in these national treasures.
Adams formed a group with other San Francisco photographers in 1932 called f/64, referring to the
smallest aperture opening on a camera lens (Gray, 1994). The group concentrated on form and texture.
The group translated scale and detail into organic, sometimes abstract design (Jacobs, 1995).
In 1935, Adams published his first book, Making a Photograph. Six years later, his Zone System was
formulated. The Zone System introduced a way for the professional and amateur photographers to
determine and control the exposure and development of prints for maximum visual acuity (Jacobs,
1995). The Zone System marked his first efforts at public education on photography.
Adams felt a sense of duty to share his knowledge of nature and photography. [Adams] was master
teacher as well as a master photographer (Schaefer, 1992). He wrote many books and taught students
his art. Adams technical ability in the darkroom was magical. He set the standard for black and white
printing. His discriminating taste and meticulously produced prints continue to amaze current
generations twenty five years after his death. Adams was an experimenter and a modernist with his
camera.

The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordechai Richler
Mordecai Richler(January 27, 1931 July 3, 2001) was a Canadian author, screenwriter and essayist.
He wrote a lot essays about the Jewish community in Canada, and about nationalism as practised by
Canadian anglophones and the francophone Québécois in addition to his fiction. The Apprenticeship
of Duddy Kravitz (1959) was one of his best works. Like Duddy in the novel, Mordecai Richler came
to Canada as a Jewish immigrant during the times when English was the only official language in
Canada (even in Quebec) and grew up in the large Jewish communities while facing the difficulties
like anti semitism and segregation. He acquired English as his second language after Yiddish and not
French for the same reason. He grew up on St. Urbain Street in the Mile End area of Montreal like
Duddy who grew up in the neighbourhood of Montreal east of Mount Royal Park on and about St.
Urbain Street and Saint Laurent Boulevard (in the poor areas of Montreal where the Jewish
communities were located) and moved to Paris, France for some time at the age of nineteen where his
work as a successful writer began(like Duddy, who went to the Laurentian Mountains for a summer
job and found his career or aim in life even though he didn t settle there). His writings are from a time
when Montreal was divided into sections and communities based on religion, race and class and his
main character Duddy, who s very similar to him, is from the same time. He displays the coming of

Ritalin Helpful and Harmful
When 20/20 and Oprah did segments about ADD on television, many parents felt that they finally
knew what was wrong with their kids. They rushed to the doctor s office to find out how they could
fix the problem. Most soon discovered a drug called Ritalin. It sounded simple. All they had to do was
give their rambunctious or hyperactive child a pill three or four times a day, and magically he or she
would be a perfect little angel. Most were so happy to find a cure that they did not stop to contemplate
other methods of treatment, possible side effects, or get a second opinion. Dr. Sharon Collins believes

Many experts feel physicians should be more aware of the side effects of the drug and look to alternate
solutions before prescribing Ritalin. Some experts also believe that Ritalin should be only part of the
treatment for patients with ADD or ADHD. The drug, which now saturates the market, produces the
same sensations as the narcotic speed if someone who is not ADD or ADHD takes it. Because of its
narcotic nature, Ritalin is considered by law to be a controlled substance, and its dosage and intake
must be carefully monitored. Parents see Ritalin as a quick fix and urge doctors to prescribe it for their
children, thus leading to premature or improper diagnoses, more people having adverse side effects to
the drug, and an increased availability of the drug for non medicinal purposes.
Many doctors do not take the time to perform a complete evaluation of the patient who is suspected to
have ADD or ADHD. They listen to the teacher or parent and assume because the child has a short
attention span or is very hyperactive that the child must have ADD. The doctors do not take time to
examine other possibilities for the child s behavior such as learning disabilities, depression, or anxiety
disorders that look like ADHD, but do not need Ritalin (Hancock 55).
This need to find a quick fix has

Economics Up to 1775* Cultivation of Tobacco was the basis of America s early economy; shortly
after, later economy weaved and meshed with the British Empire s on heavily voluminous levels, and
their relationship was strongly based on various Acts placed upon the Colonies. After acquiring seeds
from Trinidadian colonies, John Rolfe s plantation of the tobacco plant caused the first real economic
presence by selling them to European countries. The Tobacco plant was the first true cash crop of
America, imports from their mother country England were reaching to about half a million pounds per
year. The Navigation Acts of 1651 prohibited any foreign ships, with an emphasis on the Dutch, into
British Colonies in relation to trade. The British Kingdom believed that for America to be a stable
country, their exports should outnumber their imports. The Kingdom was just recovering from a brutal
recession, and they were determined to make sure that their rivals, the Dutch, be absent of a trading
relation with the Colonies. The Molasses Act of 1733 was one of the first Acts that ironically brought
in a boom of smuggling into the colonies. It issued that any molasses imported from any country other
than the British Colonies would have a six pence per gallon tax placed upon it. This act was created
mainly due to the urging of large plantation owners in the British West Indies. The Currency Act of
1751 blocked the production of paper money by New England colonies. This was to

Malignant struma ovarii tumors are divided into three categories on the basis of histology. (17) The
first papillary type is the most common characterized by overlapping nuclei or ground glass

third type is follicular variant of papillary carcinoma. Metastasis is very rare in case of malignant
struma ovarii (5%) which follows the pattern of ovarian tumor. It can metastasize to pelvic, para aortic
lymph nodes, direct spread to omentum and peritoneal cavity and hematologic spread to lung, bone,
liver and brain (11, 12). There are a lot of difficulties in the clinical diagnosis of struma ovarii due to
the absence of specific diagnostic criteria. The imaging studies used in diagnosing struma ovarii are
ultrasonogram, CT and MRI. The findings on imaging studies are also nonspecific. Triple contrast CT

believed that the experiment was inevitable for failure Rabies is a viral and contagious disease. This
did not stop Pasteur s lab from making progress in their experimentation. In their first attempt, Louis
and his team attempted to make dogs immune to the effects of rabies. In doing so, they injected the
disease into different species. They noticed that as the disease was passed to each other, it gradually
weakened in its effects. Pasteur then began to inject animals with a less potent injection of rabies. The
hope was that slowly but surely, immunity would be built up within that animal. The method consisted
of approximately seven to fourteen daily injection of the live rabies virus into the animal to be
observed and analyzed over time. Out of the fifty animals that were tested on, there had been constant
successes in making them resistant to rabies. As a result of this progress and success, Pasteur decided
that it was time to begin human trials. At first, many were skeptical that Pasteur and his team s vaccine
would work. However as more and more cases occurred, and with nowhere else to go, people
requested treatment with the rabies vaccine. By October of 1886, over two thousand people had
received the vaccine. Although the vaccine was not one hundred percent successful, ninety nine
percent of individuals that were infected with rabies survived with the aid of Pasteur s vaccine.

Underage Drinking At Its Worst
Underage Drinking at its worst! One lesson I thought I would never have to learn as a teenager was
underage drinking, toothbrushes, and bunk beds do not mix! I was 16 years old in high school and I
had braces. I was going through my rebellious stage, I didn t think about things before I did them and
what kind of consciences my actions had. I played football and I had lots of friends. I had friends who
were jocks, theater geeks, nerds, and some friends who were the trouble makers of the school. I went
to parties a lot, I would drink and have a good old time that was until I had my accident. My friend
Stevie s parents were going out of town and we all knew what that meant, he was going to have a
party. We all had our jobs to do to prepare for it. Stevie had the house so he was all set, another friend
of mine was in charge of inviting everyone, and my job was to get the alcohol. I had an older brother
who would always buy my friends and I booze, so I went all out. I got beer in bottles and in a keg, I
got hard alcohol like whiskey, vodka, rum and all the mixers that you need for a good underage
drinking party. The party was going great everyone was having a blast! Everyone showed up it was
turning out to be the best party of the year. People showed up that we didn t even invite, so they got
charged at the door to cover the cost of the party. As the night went on and it was getting late people
were starting to leave, we started to wind down and clean up a little (as well as

Contemporary Rhetorical Analysis Of The Telos
Contemporary Rhetorical Theory Fall 2015 Rui Zhang Submission Date: 2015/12/02 *All the works
below for the exam are done independently. No cooperation or discussion with anybody else. 1.
Williamson is an example of genus deliberativum. Deliberative genre is used in forum or speech to
persuade the audience to do something or believe in something in future. Williamson s speech is a
typical deliberative genre. He makes the speech on a public forum to persuade voters to agree the
marriage bill amendment, and his telos is to take advantage of this to persuade more people support
his policy. The content is an uncertain decision about future. He provides several reasons to support
his idea so his activity is basically exhortation and persuasion. 2. The telos in Williamson is the
advantages that he gets more voters supporting his policy after his speech. The telos in SAIH is about
the honorable. SAIH clip is a genus demonstrativum. It makes a sarcastic retort to reflect the present
situation that some western people who called themselves volunteer are not really helping Africa.
Thus the clip is to blame this situation. 3. He violates Commandment 4 the relevance rule that
standpoints may not be defended by non argumentation or argumentation that is not relevant to the
standpoint. In his speech, he argues the fire burning eternity sentence on a letter he received. However,
this is not relevant to the marriage bill. There no relevance to his argumentation that support the

Investigation Of A Coil Gun
Abstract: The task of this assignment is to evaluate the of a coil gun using the variables of number of
rapes of coil and the distance the projectile will travel. Then will evaluate and investigate the physics
behind the gun. Aim: The purpose of this investigation the efficiency of a coil gun using the
relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Hypothesis: In this
investigation there is a relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile
travelled. Therefore the more coils the further the projectiles will travel (cm). Prediction: As more
coils are wrapped around the gun, the distance of the projectile will increase. Literature Review: Coil
gun A coilgun (aka gun Gauss, Gauss Gauss cannon or rifle) is a type of gun that uses a series of
electromagnets for magnetically accelerate a projectile at high speed. The name Gauss gun comes
from Carl Friedrich Gauss, who formulated the mathematical proofs of the electromagnetic effect used
by Gauss cannons. The Gauss cannons are often called wrongly railguns from various sources, and
while they are similar in general concept (ie, a magnetic weapon), differ in operation, since a railgun
accelerates the missiles on two rails parallel conductors. The Gauss cannons are in substance identical
to the projector mass, albeit on a smaller scale. Kristian Birkeland is commonly considered the
inventor of the electromagnetic cannon Gauss, by which he obtained a patent

Fundamental Human System In The Early 20th Century
Fundamentally human system can be depicted with three aspects such as Physical, Intellectual and
Emotional or Intuitional. There were the days, before the industrial revolution the world had a
different view at the workers and laborers. Intolerable and unacceptable methodologies adopted to
extract the work from the employee in early days. No matter if he rows a boats or breaks the rock,
they were treated like animals, situations started to change, revolution began, thinkers evolved. Until
early 20th century, only the physical threat has been posed on the workers. We may think that it all
appears to be like a olden golden story from the books and it is no more as we are more scientifically
grown and intellectual stronger. May be a Mason or

Analysis Of George A. Romero s Gory Film Land Of The Dead
George A. Romero s gory film Land of the Dead was released June 2005. Jonathan Levine s Warm
Bodies on the other hand has a scientific fiction undertone, and was released February 2013. Lately
pop culture has had an interest in zombies. Both films chosen have a set contemporary standard of
what a typical zombie is imagined to be. Whether created by supernatural sources or acquired by a
virus, zombies are dead humans that now have the reincarnated mindset of instinctively hunting down
and devouring the living. Those wounded by a zombie, become zombies themselves. Warm Bodies
leans more towards the romance and comedy rather than horror. Whilst remaining true to the ideal
zombie, the envelope is pushed with the unexpected direction that ... Show more content on

This becomes particularly clear when we are introduced to the Bonies, who were once zombies like R
but lost their hope. When they lose their hope they peel away their own skin, the last vestiges of their
humanity, and will be unable to connect again. R even mentions how they will eat anything with a
beating heart, much like himself, but he feels conflicted about it. Bonies are automatically set up as
the antithesis of everything the movie stands for. They are the perfect villains and foils for the corpses
and humans. In Romero s Land of the Dead, zombies have taken over the world and the loose ends of
humanity live within the confines of a city that is bordered on two sides by rivers and a manmade
fence on the third side. Zombies are beginning to evolve and slowly learning how to manipulate
objects and their surroundings. The plots are a bit predictable filled with pure terror and gore opposing
Warm Bodies. While everybody else is merely set on survival, Julie is still hoping for a cure, still
considers it a possibility. Like R, she is looking for something, and wants more. She is unique in her
own crowd of zombies. The very next scene parallels the survivors with the zombies. The group of
survivors set out onto the streets looking for what they need, and it intercuts with scenes of the
zombies doing the same. They are more alike than they are different. In seeing the connected hands,

Essay on Being Careful about Putting Animals in Captivity
Animals in captivity. It has been an issue since the first zoo was opened. Many people are for and
against it. I think that there are many pros and cons to having them in captivity. The main issue in the
world is how do you possibly make it as close to the animal s natural environment in captivity. It is
almost impossible. You can t start building sea world all over the ocean and hope the animals show up.
I live in Agoura hills, big for horse property. At my grandma s we have three Arabian horses. The
thing is that they are wild animals, and need to do what they do best, RUN. We have three acres of
pasture they can run around and play and be horses. Now let me tell you, they love their treats.

About 3,500 12,000 animals are estimated to live in the Icelandic and Faeroese waters. In the summer
of 1993 We were in Mexico. I am adopted and my father is from Mexico and we were visiting family.
We went to Reino Aventura. We waited in line to see Keiko for an hour in the triple digit heat. I was
about 3 and I remember sitting exited to see my first whale. The show was supposed to start and an
announcement came over the loud speaker. I am sorry ladies and gentlemen but Keiko is very sick and
can not do the show in these conditions. I remember being so bummed out. Keiko s story is very sad.
In 1979, Keiko was only about two years old, got caught in a net. He is captured and kept in Iceland
for three years. Then he was sold to Marineland in Ontario, Canada buys him. He is then sold to Reino
Aventura, In Mexico City. He lives there in a small tank with bottlenose dolphins and sea lions, and
did about five shows a day. He then after the movie Free Willy had a bad immune system, is severely
underweight and suffers from bad muscle decreasing because of his small tank. His tank in Mexico
City was to small and to hot, averaging in the 80 s. Sea World then donates chillers to cool the water
temperature in his pool. Now this is just disgusting. This is where my attitude changes. An animal that
is so big that is suffering so much should not have to live like this. He should be freed and looked

Dummons Pros And Cons
The threat of ISIS is spreading throughout the Middles East. Mass executions, beheadings, and general
wanton mayhem are being committed by this band of psychopaths and will only get worse. What is
even worse is that no one knows how to deal with it. No other nation wants to get directly involved.
Everyone is cringing at the thought of sending ground troops, but Veterans of the Iraq War know better
than most; that option is quickly becoming a necessity. Erik Prince, founder and former CEO of the
Private Military Company (PMC) Blackwater, has found the perfect alternative, which others may
cringe at as equally as they do to sending our sons and daughters to fight this threat; Send mercenaries.
This is a morally acceptable alternative but unfortunately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently, concerning PMCs primarily, the US State Department provides oversight to the many
companies that operate across the globe. This is because it is the State Department that assigns these
contracts to said companies in the first place. But if tomorrow the law was changed and PMCs were
allowed to operate in the manner of traditional mercenaries, who would handle oversight then? It
could possibly remain the State Department, or the UN could easily provide oversight for a PMC to
operate as an actual mercenary force. Best case scenario both organizations would work together to
provide oversight. They can provide rules and guidelines for these companies similar to the rules and
guidelines militaries are given when they operate in a war zone. In fact many of these companies and
their contractors are already beholden to the same standards as the military. In his book, Civilian
Warriors, Erik Prince bashes the idea many anti Blackwater groups held to that Blackwater s men
were wild cowboys who shot anything that moved. He disputes this claim by providing the exact rules
on the escalation of force in Iraq, that were handed down by the State Department. The outline for the
use of force, for Blackwater s men, were exactly identical to the rules of engagement given to our
actual soldiers stationed in Iraq

  • 2. Krishna s Views On Religion Krishna had been on his way to Canada but decided to delay his trip and accept the invite from an older couple to stay in their home in Boise, Idaho. This couple welcomed other churchgoers to come and listen to Krishna, and soon this became a nightly gathering of meetings. He would ask questions and then use their answers to teach his views on religion. One question that he asked this small group was, What is your personal philosophy? Everyone had the same response. Their answer was to follow Jesus. Krishna nodded in agreement. He seemed warm and engaging, and somewhat charismatic as he captivated his audience and commanded everyone s attention as he spoke. • 3. The Dialectic of Metafiction and Neorealism in Calvino s... The Dialectic of Metafiction and Neorealism in Calvino s Baron in the Trees. I agree to my books being read as existential or as structural works, as Marxist or neo Kantian, Freudianly or Jungianly: but above all I am glad to see that no one key will open the lock . The above quotation perhaps shows more than anything else the ambiguity of Calvino s works. The obsession to label all narratives arises from our compulsion to make sense of this world, as literary generic categories form part of our cosmologies. Calvino s work however, eludes us by drawing upon multifarious techniques and images to create a narrative that defies all generic conventions. Attempting to arrive at a sole conclusion with a single key to unlock Calvino s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, these two antithetical elements work to create a symbiotic relationship, marked by a tenuous balance which Calvino maintains in his fiction. I shall first begin by examining the notions of metafiction and neorealism, looking at what these genres entail, and how they would conventionally work in a narrative. Subsequently, I will then go on to show how these two notions create the dialectic between fairy tale and realism in Calvino s Baron In The Trees , thereby examining the reason underlying one of the most significant disputes over the genre of his work. I will then look at the ways in which Baron In The Trees may be considered as metafictional and also as neo realist. Consequently, I will then proceed to the various ways in which this dialectic manifested, as well as the means by which Calvino maintains a tenuous balance these two contrasting elements Lastly I will examine the reasons why the Calvino short story belies this dialectic of contrasting elements. Metafiction is fiction that draws attention to its own fictional status, and in doing so it acknowledges no reality other than the one we construct for ourselves. In attempting to escape from the constructed realities of language and signs, it seeks also to dispel our illusions of being able to portray reality in art and in novels. Thus, by drawing attention to its fictionality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To control errors and possible risks in the development process activities such as Verification, Validation and Testing (VV T) are implemented (Romano et al., 2015). Also, managing the software development is a costly process that requires integration of testing tools for the desired result. • 7. Comparing J. Gordon Edwards And Richard Burton During the twentieth century, more than twelve directors tried their hand at interpreting one of history s greatest love stories. Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demille s version of the tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike. However, below the surface of Claudette Colbert s shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s. This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold lamé dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure hugging gown remind the audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of 1930s Hollywood. The ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they lead one to believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden change in tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the speaker s tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the rose is anything but perfect. She wants more than a rose, when she states. Why is it no one ever sent me yet one perfect limousine do you suppose? The word limousine implies that she maybe materialistic. Upon this, as the reader, one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written in 1937 when the Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties, all she really wanted was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is repeated throughout stanza 1 and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the mocking repetition of one perfect indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly changes when she states, do you suppose? . The question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on more of a conversational tone. The poem suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for. They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line 11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my luck to get one perfect rose. A phone with a bigger screen was all the consumer really wanted and if Apple wasn t willing to provide them with that then Samsung would. After years of sticking with a 3.5 inch display and watching Android competitors slowly increase their screen size while also increasing their sales, Apple finally gave in to the obvious trend with the larger 4.7 inch iPhone 6 and huge 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus. However, as predicted, once Apple released their bigger screened iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Samsung s sales began to decrease. Now that Apple has an iPhone with a big screen and skyrocketing sales there appears to be no obvious reason to make it better, but just like every year as technology changes and improves there is always a demand on Apple to release their new upgraded phone, this year s version being the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Apple s tagline for the iPhone 6S is the only thing that s changed is everything , stating that the brand knows the phone bears a striking resemblance to its 2014 model despite the loads of changes made under the cover (Beavis 1). • 12. International Order And Its Effect On The World s The... International order, though it may be fleeting in the grand scheme of history, seems to be at least on a continuous track of lingering longer and longer each time before chaos takes over. The Persians, Greeks, and Romans all seemed to enjoy ever increasing periods of relative peace at the top of their systems of international order before it unraveled. Most of Europe was in good order on the tail of the Industrial Revolution until some arch duke decided to vacation in Sarajevo. After each major conflict, the world re shuffles itself and order is established again in some form or fashion. The players are bigger and more numerous with greater consequences for conflict but order is still unseated from time to time and the rules of the existing orders seem to change daily. Realism can explain this violent cycle of order and disorder. States and even non state actors continuously seek to balance regional power in order to secure their survival in a world dominated by fear and uncertainty; if unable to balance that power through violent means, players will seek to form alliances and organizations to at least prevent domination; once a status quo has been created and survival is temporarily assured, players will seek to maintain life within that order; new members thrust the order back into violence and potentially chaos if unable or unwilling to play by those rules. This cycle of power balancing can be illustrated in three phases. International orders are created as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Questions and Anwers about Singing 1. What is the difference between a vocal warm up and a vocal skills development time? A vocal warm up is thought of as getting the juices flowing, whereas vocal skills are developed through teaching singing strategies. Choir teachers need to have a variety of vocal exercises in their bag because not every exercise will work for every student. The exercises used within a vocal warm up, work to build proper posture, breathing, phonation, resonant tone production, range, agility, diction, expression, aural acuity and sight reading skills. The best example I can think of between the differences in a vocal warm up and developing vocal skill is sight reading. A vocal warm up is something that anyone is able to do no matter how much vocal training they have had. A person that has had no musical training would not be able to warm up on sight reading because they have never read music. This student may be able to create proper posture and do vocal exercises but they would not be able to sight read. A student that has been in an ensemble will have learned to sight read and then will be able to do this as part of their vocal warm up. Vocal warm ups and vocal skill development go hand in hand. It is difficult to have one without the other. Students are learning to use their voice properly as they are doing vocal warm up exercises. 3. What is involved in energizing the body? • 20. Nuclear Essay The UK civil nuclear power industry initially started in 1946 followed by the establishment of one of the world s first nuclear power plant in 1956 [23 24]. This commercial scale reactor was built in southwest Scotland and given a name MAGNOX due to the fuel cladding (magnesium non oxidising alloy) used to contain the fuels. The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uranium metal fuel to generate thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within the core. Two types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA) and Pile Grade B (PGB). The former is used as a neutron moderator due to its high density and lower neutron absorption, whereas the latter is mostly used as a reflector [23]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, there are fifteen operating reactors in the UK with a combined total output around 8883 MWe, and one under construction [27]. Fourteen of the fifteen operating reactors are AGRs and located at seven different power stations, making the AGRs the most dominant nuclear reactors in the UK. The remaining two reactors (including the one under construction) are based on PWR design. AGRs are the second generation of the UK nuclear power plants, and initially designed to improve the steam cycle efficiency of the early reactor design (MAGNOX). This type of reactors exists only in the UK and operated by EDF Energy (formerly British Energy). Since the AGRs first operation in 1976 they have become the UK s most dominant reactor after showing an increased economic benefits and steam cycle efficiency approximately 42% compared with MAGNOX reactor, which has approximately 31% efficiency [25]. AGRs are capable of producing peak fuel temperature approximately 800 °C and the coolant gas temperature approximately 650 °C at 40 bars. The steam generated by the AGRs can reach up to 540 °C at 165 bar, which is capable of driving the standard 660 MW turbines. • 21. Blindness And Sight In Oedipus By Sophocles Most people believe eyes are the window to the soul, but in this ancient Greek tragedy, eyes can be an indicator to someone s intelligence level. The blind do not always have the power to see into the future just as those with sight are not always aware of their present day predicaments, but in Ancient Greek, both of those are accurate. Sight and ignorance go hand in hand as well as blindness and knowledge do in the story Oedipus by Sophocles. Sophocles uses irony to emphasize positives and negatives for two men, Oedipus, King of Thebes and Tiresias, local Oracle. Oedipus has sight but lacks the ability to fully comprehend situations in multiple scenes. He is unable to interpret many clues given to him along the way, ultimately leading to his wife s (and mother s) death along with his own downfall as well. Oedipus requested Tiresias to help him stop the plague by figuring out who killed Laius, the past king of Thebes. When Tiresias was hesitant to tell Oedipus that he was the true murderer, he recanted all the praise he gave the prophet and said, You will not explain / what you understand, but rather intend / to betray us and destroy the city. / ... You worst of wicked men! (Sophocles 348 350, 353). With this, the wise Tiresias said, You have found fault with my anger, but your own, / living within you, you did not see, but blamed me (Sophocles 356 357). • 39. How Did Louis Pasteur Affect The Economy Louis Pasteur also made a major impact on the agricultural industries of France s economy as well. In the early years of the 1880s, an issue rose among the fields of farmers across the country of France. Their cattle and sheep were suddenly dying, collapsing to the ground for what appeared as if some sudden, unseen force was knocking them down. Farmers and cattle owners were perplexed and worried, for they were losing money and they were losing money rapidly. Sheep and cattle were not only resources in the clothing industries for cloth and leather but also in agriculture as a food source. The discovery was made by another scientist that the cause of these animal s deaths was because of a disease called anthrax. Anthrax, at the time, was seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His interest in rabies began when he eleven years old. In October of 1831, a rabid wolf ravaged through Pasteur s town, biting and attacking anything in its way. Young Pasteur witnessed this tragic event and never forgot the seventeen dogs and the six children that were harmed. Around fifty years later, Pasteur s drive to find a rabies bacillus was still going strong yet throughout France is was believed that the experiment was inevitable for failure Rabies is a viral and contagious disease. This did not stop Pasteur s lab from making progress in their experimentation. In their first attempt, Louis and his team attempted to make dogs immune to the effects of rabies. In doing so, they injected the disease into different species. They noticed that as the disease was passed to each other, it gradually weakened in its effects. Pasteur then began to inject animals with a less potent injection of rabies. The hope was that slowly but surely, immunity would be built up within that animal. The method consisted of approximately seven to fourteen daily injection of the live rabies virus into the animal to be observed and analyzed over time. Out of the fifty animals that were tested on, there had been constant successes in making them resistant to rabies. As a result of this progress and success, Pasteur decided that it was time to begin human trials. At first, many were skeptical that Pasteur and his team s vaccine would work. However as more and more cases occurred, and with nowhere else to go, people requested treatment with the rabies vaccine. By October of 1886, over two thousand people had received the vaccine. Although the vaccine was not one hundred percent successful, ninety nine percent of individuals that were infected with rabies survived with the aid of Pasteur s vaccine. Through ... I was 16 years old in high school and I had braces. I was going through my rebellious stage, I didn t think about things before I did them and what kind of consciences my actions had. I played football and I had lots of friends. I had friends who were jocks, theater geeks, nerds, and some friends who were the trouble makers of the school. I went to parties a lot, I would drink and have a good old time that was until I had my accident. My friend Stevie s parents were going out of town and we all knew what that meant, he was going to have a party. We all had our jobs to do to prepare for it. Stevie had the house so he was all set, another friend of mine was in charge of inviting everyone, and my job was to get the alcohol. I had an older brother who would always buy my friends and I booze, so I went all out. I got beer in bottles and in a keg, I got hard alcohol like whiskey, vodka, rum and all the mixers that you need for a good underage drinking party. The party was going great everyone was having a blast! Everyone showed up it was turning out to be the best party of the year. People showed up that we didn t even invite, so they got charged at the door to cover the cost of the party. As the night went on and it was getting late people were starting to leave, we started to wind down and clean up a little (as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Investigation Of A Coil Gun Abstract: The task of this assignment is to evaluate the of a coil gun using the variables of number of rapes of coil and the distance the projectile will travel. Then will evaluate and investigate the physics behind the gun. Aim: The purpose of this investigation the efficiency of a coil gun using the relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Hypothesis: In this investigation there is a relationship between the number of coils and the distance the projectile travelled. Therefore the more coils the further the projectiles will travel (cm). Prediction: As more coils are wrapped around the gun, the distance of the projectile will increase. Literature Review: Coil gun A coilgun (aka gun Gauss, Gauss Gauss cannon or rifle) is a type of gun that uses a series of electromagnets for magnetically accelerate a projectile at high speed. The name Gauss gun comes from Carl Friedrich Gauss, who formulated the mathematical proofs of the electromagnetic effect used by Gauss cannons. The Gauss cannons are often called wrongly railguns from various sources, and while they are similar in general concept (ie, a magnetic weapon), differ in operation, since a railgun accelerates the missiles on two rails parallel conductors. The Gauss cannons are in substance identical to the projector mass, albeit on a smaller scale. • 45. Analysis Of George A. Romero s Gory Film Land Of The Dead George A. Romero s gory film Land of the Dead was released June 2005. Jonathan Levine s Warm Bodies on the other hand has a scientific fiction undertone, and was released February 2013. Lately pop culture has had an interest in zombies. Both films chosen have a set contemporary standard of what a typical zombie is imagined to be. Whether created by supernatural sources or acquired by a virus, zombies are dead humans that now have the reincarnated mindset of instinctively hunting down and devouring the living. Those wounded by a zombie, become zombies themselves. Warm Bodies leans more towards the romance and comedy rather than horror. Whilst remaining true to the ideal zombie, the envelope is pushed with the unexpected direction that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This becomes particularly clear when we are introduced to the Bonies, who were once zombies like R but lost their hope. When they lose their hope they peel away their own skin, the last vestiges of their humanity, and will be unable to connect again. R even mentions how they will eat anything with a beating heart, much like himself, but he feels conflicted about it. Bonies are automatically set up as the antithesis of everything the movie stands for. They are the perfect villains and foils for the corpses and humans. In Romero s Land of the Dead, zombies have taken over the world and the loose ends of humanity live within the confines of a city that is bordered on two sides by rivers and a manmade fence on the third side. Zombies are beginning to evolve and slowly learning how to manipulate objects and their surroundings. The plots are a bit predictable filled with pure terror and gore opposing Warm Bodies. While everybody else is merely set on survival, Julie is still hoping for a cure, still considers it a possibility. Like R, she is looking for something, and wants more. She is unique in her own crowd of zombies. The very next scene parallels the survivors with the zombies. The group of survivors set out onto the streets looking for what they need, and it intercuts with scenes of the zombies doing the same. They are more alike than they are different. Mass executions, beheadings, and general wanton mayhem are being committed by this band of psychopaths and will only get worse. What is even worse is that no one knows how to deal with it. No other nation wants to get directly involved. Everyone is cringing at the thought of sending ground troops, but Veterans of the Iraq War know better than most; that option is quickly becoming a necessity. Currently, concerning PMCs primarily, the US State Department provides oversight to the many companies that operate across the globe. This is because it is the State Department that assigns these contracts to said companies in the first place. But if tomorrow the law was changed and PMCs were allowed to operate in the manner of traditional mercenaries, who would handle oversight then? It could possibly remain the State Department, or the UN could easily provide oversight for a PMC to operate as an actual mercenary force. Best case scenario both organizations would work together to provide oversight. They can provide rules and guidelines for these companies similar to the rules and guidelines militaries are given when they operate in a war zone. In fact many of these companies and their contractors are already beholden to the same standards as the military. In his book, Civilian Warriors, Erik Prince bashes the idea many anti Blackwater groups held to that Blackwater s men were wild cowboys who shot anything that moved.
