What Is The Reflection Of The Movie Shottas
For this assignment, I decided to reflect on the film Shottas . The film begins in the streets of
Kingston, Jamaica home of Biggs and Wayne, the two main characters. They lived within a very
dangerous and violent town, which drove them into their own violent lifestyle. As young men, how the
movie starts off, they rob the local drug dealers of a gun for a premeditated robbery. The money
allowed for them to purchase visas to come to Miami, Florida. While in the United States, as adults,
the two continue their criminal activities leading them to be deported back to their home in Jamaica.
Mad Max and Wayne, who was deported years before Biggs made his return, had already formed a
striving extortion business. Wayne made it mandatory for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Analysis
When it comes to extortion, in my opinion, there are different levels when it comes to classifying it as
an organized crime. As young men, the boys decided to rob and shoot a delivery truck driver, in order,
to rob him of his earnings. They commited a robbery, however, it modded them into become
disciplined organized criminals and extortionist. I call this a minor because of the money they robbed
the driver of was nothing compared to the amounts of money they were extorting from the upperworld
and underworld people of power. Their behavior reflects the behaviors they have seen first hand
within their communities. The young children within the community are exposed first hand to the
violence of the local gangs and crimes. At this time, I believe, the issue was with the Jamaican
systems, as in educational and law enforcement. Along with the issue of the communities lack of
attention towards their new generations, is the issue of corruption. Aside from law enforcement being
able to keep up with the criminal activity, and being able to stop it, is the political officials being
corrupted. The film reflects on how the political world sometimes becomes involved in the organized
crime world. Reflecting on a reading we did this semester, when the upperworld connects itself with
organized criminals, it does not mean the official themself are involved in crimes themselves.
However, it allows for the organized crime to succeed and become a thriving

The Effects Of Violent Media On Children And Youth
Essentially since media is more violent than ever, and children and youth are getting more attracted to
violent media. Studies on violent media shows a clear evidence that violence on media rises the
possibility of aggressive behaviors in both short term and long term situations (Rowell Huesmann,
Moise, Podolski, Eron, 2003). Most researchers agree that aggressive behaviors are more disposed to
the harmful impact of violence on media. The negative effect is much larger for younger children
because they are not able to to differentiate the imaginary from reality. In addition, Bushman (1995)
argued that only particular type of children and youth were negatively influenced by violent media
these are labelled as high aggressive personalities. Aggressive minded individuals fascinate by
aggression more than non aggressive personalites. Children who heavily exposure to violent media are
more likely to act in an aggressive way toward others. Violent media is a risk factor that put children
and youth in a high risk of developing aggressive behaviors that may last into their adulthood (Rowell
Huesmann, Moise, Podolski, Eron, (2003). Therefore, parents have wanted to understand the negative
impact of violent media, particularly on children, adolescents, and youth. Thus, this paper underlines
some negative effects of violent media on individuals.

ELLEN VS OPRAH
A Closer Look into Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey
Steffany Brinker
University of Maryland University College
Abstract
There are many influential women around the world, but the two that come to mind for me are Ellen
DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey. Both Ellen and Oprah have had their shows for multiple years, but
they offer more than just a talk show. These two accomplished women touch the lives of many around
the world on a daily basis. While these two women are both in the same industry, it is nice to see they
support each other. Neither of these women had an overnight success, they worked through their
struggles to make them who they are today. I think their life struggles makes it more pleasing and

According to Oprah Winfrey?Academy of Achievement, (2015), at seventeen, she was offered a job
on a radio station. This radio station served the African American community, which she was very
intrigued about. She won a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, but soon would leave that
opportunity behind. She attended the university, but then decided to take a chance and moved to
Baltimore to join as co anchor on WJZ TV News. She later started to co host, People Are Talking,
where she found her niche in the business. She enjoyed the work she was doing and knew exactly
what she wanted to do with her life. Due to her success on the show, ratings went through the roof and
later she launched, The Oprah Winfrey Show. I think her early success with her radio station set her up
for success in her show today. She was able to easily connect with people on the radio as she does in

Essay On Gentrification Of Venice
This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside neighborhood
known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my
time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community
had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural
society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for
a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the
roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two
bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in
Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long
term residents. Venice, some consider, is the nicest area in Los Angeles, due to its ethnic community
and splendid attractions. Venice was discovered by Abbot Kinney, a tobacco millionaire, around 1905
(Hormann). It was originally made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

affected Oakwood towards the end of the 20th century. Even though the neighborhood is essentially
African American and Latino populated, it is still somewhat in inconsistency. According to Los
Angeles City Beat, In Venice, the transformation is ... obvious. Homes are fetching sometimes more
than $1 million, and homies are being displaced every day. (Romero) When wealthier whites started to
move into the area, long term residents started to perceive that there was a sense of non racial
integration in the neighborhood due to reconstruction of former homes and having built long fences

Sexuality In Wonder Woman
Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer. Sexuality, and how people identify. Our sexualities are who
we are and in this society we are often hiding this aspect of us because we are worried how we will be
viewed if we are open about it. The media in today s society tries to hide it away and act as if it does
not exist. This is exactly the case from the recent Warner Brothers movie Wonder Woman. Sexuality is
hardly shown in the movie Wonder Woman, but is very prevalent in the comics. Wonder Woman the
movie should not hide the sexual aspects that the comics show because in the comics she shows it is
okay to be sexual, and to be proud of your sexuality. Wonder Woman has been a hero who stands for
who she is, this is shown, but the film hides her ties to bondage, a part of who she is. Her authors
found a sanctity in bondage, and gave this belief to her. As Irene Javors states, Maston and Peter
conveyed their unique notions of liberation through bondage (Javors 1), her two authors, Harry Peter
and William Marston both found liberation in bondage, a freeing sense in being helpless. This concept
stems from the belief of freeing yourself by letting someone else take control, associated with the
concept of submission. This concept is shown greatly in the comic via Wonder Woman herself. She, in
one comic says On Paradise Island where we play many binding games, this is considered the safest
method of tying a girls arms By saying this, the reader gains information on Wonder Woman s
background. She grew up on an all female island and her comment stated above explains that they
practiced bondage ties. She knew what the safest way to tie someone s arms behind their back using
rope, a common form of bondage in society. Another example of bondage in the comics is when she
states That Velma is a clever girl I ought to bind her hand and foot! But if I m gone long, tight bonds
might make her uncomfortable . Diana knows that if someone is in a bondage tie for too long that they
will get uncomfortable. While yes that can be seen as common knowledge, she says it in a manner that
she knows first hand it can be uncomfortable. With three easily found examples in the comics about
Wonder Woman s ties to bondage, it raises the

The Life and Work of John Calvin and Galileo Galilei Essay
John Calvin was born July 10th, 1509, in Noyon, Picardy. He was raised up in a staunch Roman
Catholic family. Early in his life, Calvin s father was employed by the local bishop as an administrator
at the town s cathedral. With this newly acquired job, John Calvin s father wanted Calvin to be a
priest. Due to the fact that his family had close ties with the bishop and his noble family, Calvin s
classmates in Noyon were aristocratic and culturally influential in his childhood. At the age of
fourteen, Calvin set off for Paris to study at the College de Marche. This helped him prepare for
university study. At the College de Marche, he studied seven subjects: grammar, rhetoric, logic,
arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music. Towards the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A year later, Calvin ran away from Paris. Reason being, his friends wrote papers and gave lectures
opposing the Roman Catholic Church, which frightened Calvin. For the next three or so years, John
Calvin lived in several places outside of France. This included him using a dozen or so names;
changing it from place to place he traveled. He traveled alone, studying by himself, preaching, and
beginning work on the Institutes of the Christian Religion, which turned out to be an instant best
seller. By 1536, he had stopped work in the Roman Catholic Church, and made plans to leave France
for good. He planned on leaving France and heading over to Strasbourg. However, due to the war
between Francis I and Charles V, Calvin decided to make a detour to Geneva. Calvin was a huge
success in Geneva. Farel, a reformer, invited him to stay in Geneva. Farel also threatened Calvin s life
with God s anger if he chose not to stay. After deciding to stay in Geneva, thus began a long
relationship with the city. Due to theological conflicts, Calvin was asked to leave the city, where he
began as a lecturer and preacher. In 1538, he left the city of Geneva, and headed off for Strasbourg. In
1541, Calvin, who was now working as a pastor to French refugees, was requested to come back to
Geneva by the Council of Geneva. So, in 1541, Calvin returned to Geneva. He remained in Geneva
until his death on May 27th, 1564. Those last several years were plentiful with lecturing,

Revenge In The Film Gladiator
For almost three thousand years, revenge has been a central preoccupation of European literature. ( #2
) Even today we as students of the world see Aristotle s influence around us. Especially in the forms of
entertainment that we seek, such as movies. The film Gladiator contains the need for revenge; just like
the many European literatures before its time. It also follows Aristotle s guidelines of tragedy. The
protagonist, Maximus, suffers from a thirst of revenge for the murderer of his family. As the audience
watches this film they are taken through a roller coaster of emotion such as, sympathy for Maximus
and fear for his defeat. In the film Gladiator, written by Ridley Scott, follows Aristotle s guide to
tragedy by depicting the protagonist s fatal flaw of vengefulness, the audience s emotions of fear and
pity while watching this film. Throughout the course of the film it is obvious that Maximus s need to
avenge the death of his wife and child is the driving force behind his actions, and inevitable death.
After a crucial change in power for the Roman empire, General Maximus Decimus Meridius is put
into a tough situation. The new Caesar holds a grudge against Maximus and takes it out on his wife
and son, creating a storm of rage within the Roman General. Driven by his need for blood, Maximus
uses his newfound life as a Gladiator to get close to the emperor. Near the end of the film Maximus
and the emperor finally clash, and the duel brings about the death of each

Addiction Requires Treatment, Not a Jail Sentence There is no question about it addiction is a
problem. It s talked about constantly on the news, social media, and even in our own homes.
Considering the statistics, that s not surprising; as of 2012, an estimated 22 million people over the age
of 12 are addicted to drugs or alcohol (Friedman 387). The criminalization of the disease of addiction
overloads our legal system, disrupts the lives of many families, and limits the success of those who
could otherwise be productive members of society. The good news is that there are many different
forms of treatment available, so recovery is possible for everyone. We need to ... Show more content

The system was rocked when the crack cocaine epidemic hit. In 1981, President Reagan enforced
stricter penalties for drug offenders, and the nation went from a system of care to a system of criminal
justice (Friedman 394). Legal consequences to broken laws are important, but the consequence should
match the crime. For instance, a few days in jail for accidentally running a red light would be over the
top. Think about how many people could potentially lose their jobs over a traffic violation! But this is
happening to many people struggling with addiction. They are charged with possession and given a
prison sentence, with lawmakers hoping the time away from drugs will cure them. One major issue is
overdose upon release. This is very dangerous to someone in active addiction, because depending on
the length of time away from the drug of choice, the addict s tolerance level could decrease
significantly. The problem lies mainly with intravenous drug users and alcoholics, as there is a fine
line between injecting or drinking to excess to obtain a high and overdosing (Knezevich). Luckily,
many prisons are recognizing this and taking steps to keep it from happening. Offering counseling and
support groups for addicts in prison is common, but some prisons are taking a step further to curb the
overdose upon release

Literary Review of Bram Stoker s Dracula Essay
Review of Bram Stoker s Dracula Prior to the creation of the literary classic Dracula , Bram Stoker
spent his time managing the Lyceum Theatre and legendary actor Henry Irving. According to Jennifer
Dorn, when the novel was first published in 1897, critics regarded it as a pulp fiction potboiler (Dorn).
The novels declaration as a literary masterpiece came many years later. A graduate of Trinity college,
Stoker came from a middle class Irish family, the son of a civil servant. The publication The Literary
World of Bram Stoker, by Jennifer Dorn, declares that Stokers vision of the setting of London s

(Wikipedia, Gothic Fiction). This could leave the reader wondering if Stoker was really a sexist or a
secret applauder to the feminist movement by creating female characters who exhibit such
independence. There are many interpretation of Stokers inspiration for the characters in Dracula, and
of the Count himself. According to a biography written by Barbara Belford, Stoker based his dark
vampire character on his actor friend and employer, Henry Irving. Stokers slavish devotion to the
actor can be compared to the relationship between Renfield and the Count (Miller). In the novel,
Renfield is driven mad with powerful loyalty to the Count. Belford insinuates in The Biography of the
Author of Dracula, that the relationship between Irving and Stoker was of the same dominate nature.
Belford goes forward to declare that the Stoker slyly includes in his novel repressed homoerotic and
sexual tendencies, possibly his own, that were forbidden by society standards of that time. This issue
brought forth the fears of societal sexual independence in the Victorian era. Another speculation for
the inspiration of the Count Dracula in Stokers novel is of the Prince of Wallachia, Vlad III. He ruled
over what is now known as Romania during the years

Six Sigma vs TQM
In every organization large or small there needs to be a way where quality is measured. In quality
control management there are two time tested tools that are proven to enhance the quality of products
and services. Managing quality in a business is crucial to its success. Quality products and/or services

Quality service and operations are essential too. Consumers may want to order an item on Amazon vs
driving to the local store to purchase the same item if they can get it for the same price or of lesser
value on Amazon. Amazon are known for its quick and ease buy online and it will ship to consumers
in however fast delivery time consumers want. This gives consumers peace of mind by giving
consumers what they want at a click of a button without getting in the car to make a trip to the store.
Because of this, Amazon has built a reputation of being a one stop shop for pretty much anything.
They provide product reviews and are tied to social media platforms where any engagement of certain
products will lead consumers directly to Amazon s site ready to purchase. This is a great example of
how quality operations can influence a company s reputation making them much more competitive in
their industry.
History of Six Sigma
The history of Six Sigma dates all the way back into the 1920 s when a man named Walter Shewhart
identified that three sigma from the average or mean is the point in a process may need correction.
Many terms or standards came about but the term Six Sigma was coined by a Motorola engineer
named Bill Smith. In the 1980s Motorola engineers wanted to measure defects per million
opportunities instead of the traditional thousands of opportunities. Motorola then developed the Six

The Innocence of the Paxton Boys Essay
The Innocence of the Paxton Boys
I am here today to prove to you that Lazarus Stewart and Matthew Smith are not guilty of the murder
of Conestoga Indians. While both men agree that they did kill the Conestogas, what they did is
justified by the aggressive behavior shown by the Indians.
I will now present evidence to prove this conclusion. My first piece of evidence is from a speech made
by Little Abraham, a Mohawk sachem, to colonial Pennsylvania officials and Indian Leaders:
You [...] made Plantations there and spoiled their hunting grounds, they [French allied Delawares]
then complained to us [...] and [we] found their complaints to be true. [...] [...] Our advice to you is,

opportunities of pursuing, taking, killing and destroying the said Delaware Indians and all others
confederated with them [...]. (Mombert 166 168)
I call this piece of evidence to show direct orders for His Majesty s subjects to kill, maim, or otherwise
destroy Delaware Indians and those who help them. If these orders were followed during the first
attack on the Conestoga s village, there would have never been a second attack. However, the
Captains were not sure at the time if the unknown Indians were indeed Delaware allied. Next, I call
Mr. Felix Donnelly to the stand.

Mr. Donnelly: Call me Felix, please. I am the keeper of the Lancaster Jail.

Timmy The Train
After reading the story it is easy to see that forecasting demand is difficult in the toy industry.
Particularly with toys that depend on trends and have limited marketability. The expert commentator
M. Eric Johnson mentions, Santa needs to stop reacting to fads and start creating them. (McNulty,
2014) Just because the singer said Meowrrr was so yesterday does not take into account the kids who
don t follow fads, nor does it take into account regional saturation of this singer s popularity. Market
analysis may show that the product may be more popular and sustainable in another region. Stopping
production on Meowrrr completely without up to date market knowledge could be just as costly as
producing too much. While on the flip side, not producing enough Timmy the Train toys and CDs
could also be detrimental. I do appreciate the helpful advice from Anne Omrod, Timmy the Train is a

impression of an overall shortage for a product, when in fact only one version is hard to get. Part of
this trick, of course, is to get parents and children to substitute within the category and still be happy.

An example that may help in understanding what constitutes a reasonable accommodation is the case
Canice v. Norwest Bank Iowa N.A.
In this case Peter Canice, among many other claims, accused Norwest Banks of discrimination under
the ADA for not making reasonable accommodations for his depression. In its ruling the court
reasoned that, Once a qualified individual with a disability has requested provision of a reasonable
accommodation . . . the employer must make a reasonable effort to determine the appropriate
accommodation. The evidence that Mr. Candice provided did not support this criteria and . . . because
he lacked proof that an accommodation of his disability would have allowed him to keep his job. This
is pertinent point for cases dealing reasonable accommodation. The employee still carries the burden
of showing that a particular accommodation rejected by the employer would have made the employee
qualified to perform the essential functions of the job. The court ruled in favor of Norwest.
In its terms the ADA specifies reasonable accommodation as follows: (A) making existing facilities
used by employees readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities; and (B) job
restructuring, part¬ time or modified work

The Case Study Of Ana
In this paper, I will discuss the case study of Ana . Ana is 24 years old, has lost her job, and worries
about becoming homeless. She currently is a single parent due to her husband being deployed in a
combat zone overseas for the next eight months. Ana is a first generation immigrant from Guatemala;
she comes from a large family. She claims to have a close relationship with her family but has not seen
her family for about a year. Her father is a banker and her mother an educator, her three siblings all
has graduated college and have professional careers. Ana has completed one year of college, but
needed to leave school after her son was born, finding it difficult to manage being a parent, student

What concepts of the theory make it the most appropriate for the client in the case study?

which points out the pressure of conforming to the group/family dynamic. The second point is the

Journey Of The West Is A Chinese Novel By China And Taiwan...
Journey to the West is a Chinese novel published in the 16th century that tells a story of Xuanzang or
Tripitaka s journey to retrieve original Buddhist sutras for China. The influence of Journey to the West
has become insurmountable in Asian cultures and has managed to help both Taoism and Buddhism to
surge in popularity and stay relevant today. Being one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese
literature, Journey to the West has been successfully adapted into various forms of media and is often
a required read in both China and Taiwan s education system. What makes Journey to the West stand

Wukong under his palm for more than 500 years. He is eventually set free by the Bodhisattva,
Guanyin to help Xuan Zang travel to the west safely and retrieve the Buddhist sutras.
Sun Wukong s popularity lies in his eccentric personality, his super powers, and his embodiment of
various religious influences. For example, Asian countries such as China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and
others have almost an unbreakable bond in the teachings of Confucius. The governmental system,
their education system, as well as these countries societal culture all emphasize on the teachings of

he wreaks havoc in the Heavenly Kingdom. Notably, his entire character s early life is the
embodiment of anarchism which supports the idea of Taoism as Sun Wukong personifies the
opposition force that is responsible for correcting the world s negativity. His wrong doings in the
Heavenly Kingdom has obvious damage and repercussions. However, it is due to his wrong doings,
the Jade Emperor realizes his army s weakness and has taken actions to repair those flaws.

Should The United States Congress Adopt The Presumed...

Should the United States congress adopt the presumed consent method for organ donations?
Introduction to Policy Controversy The current system of the United States as well as most of Europe
for organ obtaining is through presumed refusal, which is also known as the opt in system. In this
system a person s organs cannot and, will not be removed from his/her postmortem body unless he/she
has explicitly consented to this being done. (Taylor 383) Under this system, citizens must opt in to
become organ donors by registering to become donors. Consequently, this method of obtaining organs
does not produce very many organs up for donation. This is true for a variety of reasons, which is why
many are suggesting the United States should adopt a new system of presumed consent. Totally
opposed to presumed refusal, under presumed consent it is presumed that persons would prefer to
donate their organs for transplantation after their death (Taylor 383).
Perspectives on Existing Social Problems
Presumed consent is also referred to as the opt out system because individuals would have the option
of opting out of the system and not donating their organs. On a moral level, the debate between
presumed refusal and presumed consent seeks to achieve the fundamental goal of organ donation. The
goal is to show that their respective systems of organ obtainment are morally and economically
superior to the other methods.

How Does Henry Present Fear In The Red Badge Of Courage
Fear versus Glory
Henry is young man who decided to enlist in the union army. Henry is romantic, but he also can be
realistic which leads to an internal dilemma. Henry s realistic reasonable side disagrees with his
optimistic romantic side, and he begins to wonder why he ever enlisted. Like most people his age
Henry is very ambitious, he only thought of the rewards and not the consequences. During the first six
chapters of the red badge of courage henry is having an internal battle between his desire for glory and
the fear of battle.
Henry did not truly realize what he was getting into until he had some time to think about it. During
the time that the regiment was in camp Henry had plenty of time to think about what he was doing and
why he was doing it, and during this time of isolated thinking the fear of war consumed him to a point
that he wished that he would get killed in the first battle. The way he viewed the war took a dramatic
change; he no longer thought of honor and glory but rather the fear of the battlefield and how he
would fair in it. These thoughts first come to him when rumors spread about a fight the next day: He
recalled his visions of broken bladed glory, but in the shadow of the impending tumult he suspected ...

books, but those stories fail to show all of the death and darkness that precedes the victory. As Henrys
character develops he realizes he is not special, and feels isolated from his comrades because they
seem to be confident while he is full of fear. However, when He enlisted he had a romantic view of
war that was painted by the tales of honor and glory from the history

Inequality is an unlawful right in modern times, but when the story Worldshaker was set it was a

Introduction
These two beautiful tree species are both tall street and park trees found in the south eastern suburbs

that seems to have done well but is only planted sporadically as an ornamental shade tree. Why? What
conditions and attitudes have changed from when these originally planted? What characteristics and

The Importance Of Friendship In The School Stories
The school story is an important, recurring sub genre of children s literature, and is specifically rooted
in British culture, where boarding school are more common and provide an enclosed, secular setting to
the characters adventures, often becoming a character in its own right, and acting as a stage for the
protagonists to grow, learn, fit in or stand out, deal with and challenge authority. The hero is rarely
alone; surrounded by the opposing and balancing forces of responsible adults and mischievous peers.
From Tyke Tyler s Danny Price to Harry Potter s Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, friends in the
school story are the centre of the protagonist s world, providers of balance, perspective, conflict and
support. For the young reader, these friendships suggest the need for company and intimacy in order to
succeed at school and in life, and can even be seen as guidelines showing children how to fit in and
strike their own friendships. While this effect on the reader s life can be seen as positive, providing
them with positive role models and examples of kindness and sharing, literary friendships often
reveal, upon closer analysis, some darker and somewhat unhealthy dynamics. For young readers,
stories act as a window to the world, and often an example to follow. The struggles and successes their
characters go through become a way to identify, empathize and learn. The school story, with its strong
representation of friendship and early social life, can thus help their

Examples Of Racial Discrimination In Huckleberry Finn
Racial discrimination can be best defined as treating someone unfairly based on their race. The
American social issue in the story Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , by Mark Twain, is racial
discrimination. This story takes place along the mississippi river during the 1830 s, a time where
racism was very strong in the south. African Americans during that time period were treated very
poorly just because of their skin. The social issue of racial discrimination in this story is still relevant
today and can be seen in the articles written by S.J. Prince, Mike Snider, and Genevieve Bookwalter.
S.J. Prince in his article, WATCH: Man in Wheelchair Assaults Man in Airport for Speaking Spanish,
Not English , talks about Michael,a man in a wheelchair, who berates a man because he spoke another
language. Michael says to the hispanic man, This fucking spic can kiss my ass[...] You are in America

Robinson s role was not supposed to be terminated until September, but according to her, she was

Propaganda In The Poisonwood Bible
35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy once said We must never forget that art
is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth (John). Though the art medium of writing, Barbara
Kingsolver sheds light on the toxic reality of propaganda and its effects. She does this through the
ostentatious character of Nathan Price, a religious zealot placed in Kilanga on a mission to spread
Christianity. He represents a poisoned mind, corrupted by the beliefs of his government. In Barbara
Kingsolver s The Poisonwood Bible, Nathan Price s despotic personality is the result of exposure to

He believes that civilization comes to Africa only from without, from its colonizers who import their

Metaphors Of The Song Over The Rainbow
The lyrics of Over the Rainbow has the changes of fortune which leads us to believe that it has many
metaphors of the journey of an Odyssey. Over the Rainbow has a part where the singer talks about a
far away place. Dorothy says, Somewhere over the Rainbow, Way up high, There s a land that i heard
of, Once in a lullaby. This portion of the song tells about the far away place that is either mysterious or
magical in a sense, this tells of a new place that a journey could be taken to get to there. A portion of
the song tells of a magic place where wishes happen. Dorothy says, Somewhere over the Rainbow,

Prohibition Of Alcohol In The 1920 s
During the 1920s, a national ban on alcohol was rumored to reduce crime and corruption, solve social
problems, and improve health and hygiene in America. This era of banned alcohol, was called
Prohibition. This law passed, banning all production on alcohol was enforced, leading to illegal
production of alcohol, executed in many different ways. This time era and circumstances have roughly
shaped America today. When Prohibition first went into effect, the alcohol consumption rate was 30
percent lower than before. It started with religious leaders leading the movement. By the 1900s,
temperance societies were common in communities across the United States. Women played a large

s prescription and there were now bootleggers to produce alcohol and speakeasies to serve it. During
Prohibition, doctors were able to prescribe liquor to patients on a specially designed government
prescription form that could be filled at any pharmacy. When medicinal whiskey stocks were low, the
government would increase its production. Alcohol prescriptions soared and a significant amount of
the supplies meant for the sick were taken by bootleggers. Keep in mind that this was during the
Depression, there was no funding of jobs, bootleggers were supplying jobs and making money.

The Role Of Title Ix Essay
Sports have been a large part of society throughout history. They have brought out happiness, joy, hard
work, determination, and teamwork in the individuals that have participated in them. However, there
have been negatives involved with sports throughout history also, including gender roles, which are
defined as the public image of being a particular gender that a person presents to others. These roles
have been created by society and passed down from generation to generation, informing one another
of false beliefs that say that one gender, usually males, are better than females. In sports, these often
say that women have significantly lower performance levels, show less drive and that women see
competition as unnecessary. In reviewing the initial beliefs and problems before Title IX, the role of
Title IX, the problems still existing today, and the modern movement, it is seen that progress has been
made, but also that there is also more to do. Gender roles are developed in the overall spectrum
throughout society. This is often developed by children and guided by society by through approval and
disapproval of certain actions. This includes actions such as society telling boys that playing with
dolls is girly (CH. 10.). Society develops these roles, and people that break them are often seen as
different and outsiders. These also develop in the society of sport, where values have been
traditionally associated with males. As men often did studies with sports, there was

neighbor friend whilst sleepwalking. They had been watching videos and she fell asleep on the sofa,
he hit her with a bottle and a video recorder and grabbed her round the throat. He was sleepwalking at

The criminally insane need a special form of rehabilitation and should be granted to right to fight for
this sentence. The insanity defense serves a definitive purpose in our legal system dismissing those
who should truly be found innocent. The option to utilize the insanity defense in court should not be
supported because it is not always effective for those who truly need it, it is a Catch 22 and a mental
illness does not dismiss the fact that a crime has taken place. The insanity plea should be abolished
because it does not help those who need it, the bar at which you qualify for insanity is near
unreachable, which renders the plea useless. Psychiatrists who examined Andrea Yates testified
repeatedly she was mentally ill and suffered from severe postpartum depression but that was not
enough to brand her legally insane (Seligman). This woman was later retried and did succeed in using
the insanity defense. The fact that she was not allowed to use it the first time shows how hard it is to
succeed using this defense. The first time she tried to use the defense, she clearly qualified but was
dismissed due to other factors; if the plea is not for the insane then who is it for? The insanity plea
should be reexamined because it is a Catch 22. Owen Atlee Walker Jr. of Newport News, who on Feb.
2 took a hunting knife and stabbed his girlfriend 26 times, with their two young kids in the next room.
Then he cleaned off the murder weapon with bleach,

Freedom is More Valued than Security
Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom,
most people find sin. This might sounds like a section from a travelling guide, but it also describes
why we as a society cannot gain complete freedom. Complete Freedom requires all negative
repercussions from individual s actions to be unpunished, making it impossible to allow any form of
justice into the community, turning it into a den of criminals. Due to that, a government with security
force to help regulate rules is necessary to keep the whole country going without breaking down.
However, with great power comes great responsibilities, and most government that is allowed too
much power will crack under the pressure and implant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freedom is the ultimate luxury, a luxury every man and woman of these world lust for, even though
there is no rational reason for freedom. Some government understand why people wants freedom, but
they also desire the power and control without opposition, so instead they give partial freedom to the
people, but still retains most of the security to ensure no one can rebel against their authority.
Unfortunately for them, this is usually not the case. One example is Ukraine, the once pronounced free
country that has turned into a point of conflict and bloodshed. As stated in Radio Liberty: Amnesty
International notes worsening of human rights situation in Ukraine , Ukraine human rights has been
deteriorating starting from the election of Viktor Yanukovych in 2011, as suppression of freedom of
expression increased dramatically. Matters did not improve during the next two years, with the
opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko and two of her former political allies serving a seven years
sentence while being alleged of ill treatment in prison, LGBT activists facing violence and harassment
from national group, and with national broadcasters that openly criticizing the government to be
denied of a license. All these facts are provided by World Report 2013: Ukraine , which shows how
security have taken over freedom in Ukraine after

Essay on The Failure of the Spanish Armada
The Failure of the Spanish Armada The Armada could have succeeded the plan was simple and could
have been effective. The Spanish had the strongest army in Europe and the English defences were not
exactly good. The plan was very simple, but could have been deadly if it had worked. The main
reasons for it not working out were the communication problems. The messenger ships travelled the
same speed, as the Armada so they were nearly useless and the communication between Parma s army
and the Armada were not good. On top of all of this the Armada had received message that Parma s
army was not ready when they were at Calais, which caused a big problem for the Spanish.
Communication was not the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the English sent in their fireships the problems started, the Armada s formation had broken up
and the English were coming in for the attack. Luckily he managed to keep himself out of a fight. The
Armada was sailing in the wind and was going to be run aground, they couldn t turn round because
they were being followed by the English. The wind changed and they thought they were saved. During
this time the Duke s advisors all persuaded Medina to surrender to the English instead of running
aground. Medina Sidonia decided to wait and when the wind changed direction he decided that his
first priority was to the safe keeping of the Armada. The wind would have made it difficult to sail in
the Channel, on the other hand the way that he went he lost about 18 ships overnight, because of the
storms. By the time the last ship got back to Spain there were only 63 ships left. The English attack at
Calais did cause the Spanish to fail one of their orders, to keep in the crescent formation and it caused
them to fail there main objective... pick up Parma s Army. The army were nearly ready but the English
managed to get the Spanish out of the port and into sea using fireships that made the Spanish think
that we had hell burners, from here they started to start a huge battle and the army was unable to get
picked up because of this. Many sources say many different things about the English ships.

Women And The Spartan Women
Throughout ancient human history, men and women held vastly different roles. Women were often
given the duty of bearing and raising children, whereas men were expected to fight, provide an
income, and protect the household. Women were seen as totally inferior to men and described by
Euripedes as a curse to mankind and a plague worse than fire or any viper. However, this misogynistic
view of women and designated role of inferiority was not apparent in every ancient civilization. The
role of the female in ancient Greek history can best be explored and contrasted between two important
civilizations: The Spartans and the Athenians. The Spartan women were incredibly advanced for their
time, and the Athenian women were drastically far behind. Both the Spartan and Athenian women held
roles at home and lived lives far removed from the men of their societies. However, their lives were
much different. While the Spartan women were strong and educated, the Athenian women held a
status almost equal to slavery. The Spartan women were far more advanced than Athenians in aspects
of life including education, athleticism, and independence. In no other city state did women enjoy the
same freedom and status as Spartan women. As a military driven society, the Spartans realized that
regardless of gender all Spartiates had an obligation to serve the militaristic end of Sparta. With this
focus in mind, women were allowed more freedom, rights, and independence. Spartan women were

This medium level risk is mitigated by dedicating a network solely to dealing with the needs of the
secondary server.
There is also the risk of data confidentiality at the third level with the CSP. This is also a medium level
risk, which is mitigated by ensuring the contract drawn with the CSP enforces strict data access level
measures.
The business continuity plans guards Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability at all times. Ensure
confidentiality by enforcing access to the backups to only the disaster response team and the system
administrators in charge. Ensure integrity by verifying and validating the backup snapshots after the
backup is completed. Ensure availability by providing dual power to the backup servers so that the
business would not be disrupted at any time due to data center disasters.
CONCLUSION
Disasters are unforeseen circumstances and the only way of tackling them is to be thoroughly prepared
for the impact. The prime aim of having a Disaster Recovery and a Business Continuity Plan is to
have minimal impact on day to day businesses. The Three tiered business continuity plan suggested
above considers many aspects of unanticipated problems and shows readiness to work around these

  • 2. What Is The Reflection Of The Movie Shottas For this assignment, I decided to reflect on the film Shottas . The film begins in the streets of Kingston, Jamaica home of Biggs and Wayne, the two main characters. They lived within a very dangerous and violent town, which drove them into their own violent lifestyle. As young men, how the movie starts off, they rob the local drug dealers of a gun for a premeditated robbery. The money allowed for them to purchase visas to come to Miami, Florida. While in the United States, as adults, the two continue their criminal activities leading them to be deported back to their home in Jamaica. Mad Max and Wayne, who was deported years before Biggs made his return, had already formed a striving extortion business. Wayne made it mandatory for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analysis When it comes to extortion, in my opinion, there are different levels when it comes to classifying it as an organized crime. As young men, the boys decided to rob and shoot a delivery truck driver, in order, to rob him of his earnings. They commited a robbery, however, it modded them into become disciplined organized criminals and extortionist. I call this a minor because of the money they robbed the driver of was nothing compared to the amounts of money they were extorting from the upperworld and underworld people of power. Their behavior reflects the behaviors they have seen first hand within their communities. The young children within the community are exposed first hand to the violence of the local gangs and crimes. At this time, I believe, the issue was with the Jamaican systems, as in educational and law enforcement. Along with the issue of the communities lack of attention towards their new generations, is the issue of corruption. Aside from law enforcement being able to keep up with the criminal activity, and being able to stop it, is the political officials being corrupted. The film reflects on how the political world sometimes becomes involved in the organized crime world. Reflecting on a reading we did this semester, when the upperworld connects itself with organized criminals, it does not mean the official themself are involved in crimes themselves. However, it allows for the organized crime to succeed and become a thriving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Violent Media On Children And Youth Essentially since media is more violent than ever, and children and youth are getting more attracted to violent media. Studies on violent media shows a clear evidence that violence on media rises the possibility of aggressive behaviors in both short term and long term situations (Rowell Huesmann, Moise, Podolski, Eron, 2003). Most researchers agree that aggressive behaviors are more disposed to the harmful impact of violence on media. The negative effect is much larger for younger children because they are not able to to differentiate the imaginary from reality. In addition, Bushman (1995) argued that only particular type of children and youth were negatively influenced by violent media these are labelled as high aggressive personalities. Aggressive minded individuals fascinate by aggression more than non aggressive personalites. Children who heavily exposure to violent media are more likely to act in an aggressive way toward others. Violent media is a risk factor that put children and youth in a high risk of developing aggressive behaviors that may last into their adulthood (Rowell Huesmann, Moise, Podolski, Eron, (2003). Therefore, parents have wanted to understand the negative impact of violent media, particularly on children, adolescents, and youth. Thus, this paper underlines some negative effects of violent media on individuals. • 5. Essay On Gentrification Of Venice This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside neighborhood known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long term residents. • 6. Sexuality In Wonder Woman Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer. Sexuality, and how people identify. Our sexualities are who we are and in this society we are often hiding this aspect of us because we are worried how we will be viewed if we are open about it. The media in today s society tries to hide it away and act as if it does not exist. This is exactly the case from the recent Warner Brothers movie Wonder Woman. Sexuality is hardly shown in the movie Wonder Woman, but is very prevalent in the comics. Wonder Woman the movie should not hide the sexual aspects that the comics show because in the comics she shows it is okay to be sexual, and to be proud of your sexuality. Wonder Woman has been a hero who stands for who she is, this is shown, but the film hides her ties to bondage, a part of who she is. Her authors found a sanctity in bondage, and gave this belief to her. As Irene Javors states, Maston and Peter conveyed their unique notions of liberation through bondage (Javors 1), her two authors, Harry Peter and William Marston both found liberation in bondage, a freeing sense in being helpless. This concept stems from the belief of freeing yourself by letting someone else take control, associated with the concept of submission. This concept is shown greatly in the comic via Wonder Woman herself. She, in one comic says On Paradise Island where we play many binding games, this is considered the safest method of tying a girls arms By saying this, the reader gains information on Wonder Woman s background. She grew up on an all female island and her comment stated above explains that they practiced bondage ties. She knew what the safest way to tie someone s arms behind their back using rope, a common form of bondage in society. Another example of bondage in the comics is when she states That Velma is a clever girl I ought to bind her hand and foot! But if I m gone long, tight bonds might make her uncomfortable . Diana knows that if someone is in a bondage tie for too long that they will get uncomfortable. While yes that can be seen as common knowledge, she says it in a manner that she knows first hand it can be uncomfortable. The system was rocked when the crack cocaine epidemic hit. In 1981, President Reagan enforced stricter penalties for drug offenders, and the nation went from a system of care to a system of criminal justice (Friedman 394). Legal consequences to broken laws are important, but the consequence should match the crime. For instance, a few days in jail for accidentally running a red light would be over the top. Think about how many people could potentially lose their jobs over a traffic violation! But this is happening to many people struggling with addiction. They are charged with possession and given a prison sentence, with lawmakers hoping the time away from drugs will cure them. One major issue is overdose upon release. This is very dangerous to someone in active addiction, because depending on the length of time away from the drug of choice, the addict s tolerance level could decrease significantly. The problem lies mainly with intravenous drug users and alcoholics, as there is a fine line between injecting or drinking to excess to obtain a high and overdosing (Knezevich). Belford goes forward to declare that the Stoker slyly includes in his novel repressed homoerotic and sexual tendencies, possibly his own, that were forbidden by society standards of that time. • 20. Should The United States Congress Adopt The Presumed... Ozair Manji Dr. Moses Capstone 24 September 2015 Should the United States congress adopt the presumed consent method for organ donations? Introduction to Policy Controversy The current system of the United States as well as most of Europe for organ obtaining is through presumed refusal, which is also known as the opt in system. In this system a person s organs cannot and, will not be removed from his/her postmortem body unless he/she has explicitly consented to this being done. (Taylor 383) Under this system, citizens must opt in to become organ donors by registering to become donors. Consequently, this method of obtaining organs does not produce very many organs up for donation. This is true for a variety of reasons, which is why many are suggesting the United States should adopt a new system of presumed consent. Totally opposed to presumed refusal, under presumed consent it is presumed that persons would prefer to donate their organs for transplantation after their death (Taylor 383). Perspectives on Existing Social Problems Presumed consent is also referred to as the opt out system because individuals would have the option of opting out of the system and not donating their organs. On a moral level, the debate between presumed refusal and presumed consent seeks to achieve the fundamental goal of organ donation. The goal is to show that their respective systems of organ obtainment are morally and economically superior to the other methods. Issues for social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry s realistic reasonable side disagrees with his optimistic romantic side, and he begins to wonder why he ever enlisted. Like most people his age Henry is very ambitious, he only thought of the rewards and not the consequences. During the first six chapters of the red badge of courage henry is having an internal battle between his desire for glory and the fear of battle. Henry did not truly realize what he was getting into until he had some time to think about it. During the time that the regiment was in camp Henry had plenty of time to think about what he was doing and why he was doing it, and during this time of isolated thinking the fear of war consumed him to a point that he wished that he would get killed in the first battle. The way he viewed the war took a dramatic change; he no longer thought of honor and glory but rather the fear of the battlefield and how he would fair in it. The Importance Of Friendship In The School Stories The school story is an important, recurring sub genre of children s literature, and is specifically rooted in British culture, where boarding school are more common and provide an enclosed, secular setting to the characters adventures, often becoming a character in its own right, and acting as a stage for the protagonists to grow, learn, fit in or stand out, deal with and challenge authority. The hero is rarely alone; surrounded by the opposing and balancing forces of responsible adults and mischievous peers. From Tyke Tyler s Danny Price to Harry Potter s Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, friends in the school story are the centre of the protagonist s world, providers of balance, perspective, conflict and support. For the young reader, these friendships suggest the need for company and intimacy in order to succeed at school and in life, and can even be seen as guidelines showing children how to fit in and strike their own friendships. While this effect on the reader s life can be seen as positive, providing them with positive role models and examples of kindness and sharing, literary friendships often reveal, upon closer analysis, some darker and somewhat unhealthy dynamics. For young readers, stories act as a window to the world, and often an example to follow. The struggles and successes their characters go through become a way to identify, empathize and learn.
