What is traditional psychodynamic theory? Who and where did it come? How did contemporary
psychodynamic theory develop and expand upon those ideas? Who were the key players?
Theories
The traditional psychodynamic theories of personality were introduced to us through Sigmund Freud,
Carl Jung, and Alfred Alder. From there many other great minds were able to build upon the
framework of the ideas of those who had gone before them. Most notably was Melanie Klein, Karen
Horney, Eric Fromm, and Erik Erikson. Traditional psychodynamic theorists focused more on the
unconscious and how it relates to personality, whereas contemporary psychodynamic theorist focused
more on how the individual develops their personality.
Traditional Theories The traditional psychodynamic theories put great emphases on the importance of
the unconscious mind and believed that personality traits were something people are born. The
consensus being that the traits everyone expressed as being inherent and coming from within. There
was not a huge amount of focus on how the outside world may have contributed to an individual s
personality. Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and Alfred Alder believed that what occurred in the
unconscious mind had a significant impact on what went on in the conscious mind. The main

How Does Hector Change Throughout The Iliad
This passage from the epic poem The Iliad takes place near the end of book six. This book starts off

Insomni A Common And Overlooked Sleep Problem
A common and overlooked sleep problem throughout college aged people is insomnia. While some
people don t even know they have it, it could be greatly affecting their outlook on life. Not getting the
correct amount of sleep each night can lead to some very extreme mental health problems. These
include: paranoia, hallucinations, schizophrenia, and night terrors. Could therapy help people who
suffer from these health problems caused by insomnia? Researchers who conducted this experiment in
the UK, Freeman at el, (2015) hypothesized insomnia is a contributory casual factor to psychotic like
experiences. With the help of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), the subjects will get better sleep,
therefore they will have less psychotic like experiences. The subjects for this experiment are a
randomized controlled group of 2,614 college students in the UK who tested positive for insomnia
(Freeman at el., p.1). The students will then be randomly split into two groups by the automated online
system (p.4). One group will be treated with CBT for insomnia and the other group will be receive
treatment as usual. Although it is explained that there are no exclusion criteria, all participants must be
at least 18 years of age and they must test positive for insomnia. However, the participants don t have
to test positive for psychotic like experiences, because they want to see how CBT works on the less
