African-American Cultural Beliefs Essay
African American is a politically correct term used to refer to blacks within the United States. The
roots of many African American rites can be traced back to African cultural rites. However, it is
important to note that not all blacks in America identify with African cultural roots. Therefore, some
of the rites found within what many in the United States call African American culture stem from
Caribbean and other cultural traditions. For this reason, when making end of life decisions or funeral
arrangements the cultural identification, spirituality and the social class the individual identifies with
must be taken into account. The black majority within the United States identifies with Afrocentric
traditions and perspectives. For this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To this end it is common for African Americans to not mitigate pain and suffering while pursuing any
and all life sustaining treatments made available to them (Barrett, 2002). African Americans will
generally even pursue life saving treatments aggressively when they are informed of the treatments
futility (Barrett, 2005). The African American cultural view of death is one of normalcy. They view
death as comfortable and familiar. The sanctity of life and its preservation is extremely important
within African American culture but when death comes it is considered natural and an accepted part of
life (Barrett, 2002). This differs from the traditional American cultural perspective that after the mid to
late 1900 s came to view death as unnatural and something to be hidden (Corr, 2009). African
American culture may consider death to be a natural part of life but the sanctity of life is also very
important to them. For this reason African Americans are more inclined to aggressively pursue life
saving treatments than those from traditional American culture (Barrett, 2005). Members of African
American culture are also less likely to want to talk about or deal with end of life decision making
(Welch, 2005). When coping with the psychological dimension of dying, African Americans are
normally less willing to discuss end of life decisions as well as treatment preferences, unlike their
culturally traditional American counterparts. One reason

Cons Of Cultural Relativism
I. Description
Cultural relativism is the concept that morality is based upon culture, [...] there are sometimes
differing moral standards and practices in various cultures (Hollinger, 2002, Kindle Locations 212
218). Morals are not universal, practices are accepted or rejected by the individual culture and change
as the culture changes.
II. Critique
A. Pros of Cultural Relativism
1. Cultural relativism gives one a license to believe what they desire. They find a culture that suits
their desires. Where they can remain unaffected by beliefs of the outside world.
2. As relative, by its very nature, implies flexibility people are drawn to formulate values from the
flexibility. 3. A culture s truth is their own, thereby creating their ... Show more content on

Cons of Cultural Relativism
1. Numerous value systems muddy the water and eventually dilutes morality as a whole. This
approach prevents the internal dimension of our personal relationship with God. Our outward
expression of the inward spirituality, the external dimension, is unattainable as we are not able to have
a personal relationship with God without his moral system.
2. Morality assessments are typically based on a personal value system leaving little room for cultural
diversity. The internal dimension is to be free of judgment and the external dimension is to love one
another. If so, this requires cultures to be tolerant of all other cultures.
3. Relativism rejects universal morals. It does not acknowledge the basic principle of the external
dimension, practiced morals from a Godly value system. That Godly value system can only come
from the internal dimension.
4. A cultural moral system is accepted by those within their own culture. The culture does not concern
itself with outside acceptance. Weakness in both the internal and external Christian framework is
prevalent in this mindset. The culture models behavior without concern of consequences. This is
opposite of what God modeled to mankind and what the Bible

Impact of Institutional Factors and Election Mechanisms...
In the 2012 United States Presidential election 58.2 percent of the registered voters turnout out to vote
(IDEA). This figure is in stark contrast to many other wealthy democracies in the western world for
the same election cycle (IDEA). This begs the question, why is voter turnout significantly lower in the
US compared to the rest of the first world and other OECD countries? There are countless factors that
could affect voter turnout, the most standard of which are based on socioeconomic status. But when
considering only developed nations, more is at play in predicting turnout. Focus is turned to
institutional factors and the effect election mechanisms, such as registration laws and party systems,
have on political participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These institutional factors increase the resources necessary for a member of the public to vote, thus
discouraging political participation. Much of the proceeding argument hinges off of the Resource
Model of Participation, which states that an individual votes, or more generally participates in politics,
base on their personal stock of time, money, and civic skills (Verba, Schlozman, and Brady). It cost
personal resources to vote, and thus inherently an individual can only do so if they posses those
resources ahead of time. Additional credibility is gained from the Rational Choice Model of
Participation, which assumes that an individual votes based on logic, and will only cast a vote if
receiving a net benefit from doing so (Blais). In this way, even someone possessing the resources to
vote may be turned away because the burden of institutional factors decreases the net benefit of
voting. In the 2012 presidential election in the United States, as stated before, 58.2 percent of
registered voters turned out to vote. During the same election period, 80.35 percent turnout out for the
presidential elections in France, 71.55 percent in Germany, and 75.19 percent in Italy (IDEA). Only
the highest election in each respective country is considered. While these percentages may seem
similar, when talking about a nation on tens if not hundreds of millions of people, five percentage

The Bill Of Rights
A controversial topic that many protested for was, freedom of speech. After many years of wanting to
be heard, Americans finally achieved the assurance of having a voice. The Bill of Rights was passed
on December 15, 1791; commencing with the First Amendment. The First Amendments defends
freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition. Stated in the U.S. Constitution, the First
Amendment declares Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech. Thus, meaning
that citizens cannot be imposed of civil liability from what they say or write with exceptions. Even
though freedom of speech recognizes many arguments, discussions, and expression, it will only be
valid through the qualifications the First Amendments states with the exceptions included. Highly
entrenched in the constitution, freedom of speech is one of the most treasured freedoms that has been
protected once achieved. Many back in the day, fought for this privilege that we now have. Back then,
they were not allowed to speak against the government with topics such as, unfair laws, taxation, etc.
With such privilege though, there had to be some clarifications. Freedom of speech does not imply
that there is a right to speak anywhere and at any time. There is a time and place for everything. Thus,
meaning that protestor can protest in areas that are neutral; being that they initially favor both sides.
Other restrictions are, advocacy of unlawful activities, fighting words, and hate speech. In a

Essay On Hester Prynne
In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne describes the life of Hester Prynne as a struggle with
society, forced to wear a scarlet A as a public reminder and shaming of the adultery she has
committed. However, her lover, Arthur Dimmesdale, must only live with the guilt of the deed, rather
than being shamed by the Puritan world. Indeed, the novel demonstrates the strength of the oppressed
against the weakness of the privileged when both are plagued with shame or guilt.
At the beginning, the town assembles as Hester Prynne displays her wicked scarlet A, representing the
unholy deed of adultery she has committed. The town scrutinizes her, feeling she deserved worse, that
they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s forehead ... Show more content on

The members of Puritan society all pressure the wickedness of Hester s deed, and their condescending
manner puts Hester in an oppressed position, both as an adulterer, and as a woman. As the woman in
the adultery, she must take the public shame and care for the daughter, Pearl, who is in her arms as she
stands on the scaffold, a thousand unrelenting eyes, all fastened upon her, and concentered at her
bosom (Hawthorne 10). But despite the prejudice Hester must endure from society, rises much
stronger and utilizes the scarlet letter to increase her worth. The book alludes to Anne Hutchinson,
who led a group of religious dissenters and this allusion even anticipates the scarlet letter that she
wears (Themes). Hester starts to wear the A with pride, making it her own, and turned her problems
into solutions. Even the members of Puritan society were astonished, and even startled, to perceive
how her beauty shone out and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she was
enveloped (Hawthorne 7). She wore misfortune as a badge, and used the A in her own terms. Sally
Buckner explains that despite Hester s isolation from Puritan society and the normal people, she has

The Political Community in Guatemala Essay
The Political Community
The social apartheid that exist in Guatemala separates Guatemala into two places and does not allow
the country to be united, both democratically socially. The indigenous population is separated from
opportunities. Without the minimal conditions, necessary for citizens to exercise their rights in
practice there is not citizenship and therefore no true democracy. New democratic institutions must
both address the anxiety existing among Ladinos and prove to be responsive to a sizeable segment of
the national community that has previously been excluded based on language and ethnicity.

The administration made some progress on such issues as taking state responsibility for past human
rights cases, supporting human rights in international forums, and pressing labor rights reforms, but it
failed to show significant advances on combating impunity in past human rights cases, military
reforms, and legislation to increase political participation. The political balance was once again
disrupted in 2000 when allegations surfaced that the FRG had illegally altered legislation. Following
an investigation, the Supreme Court stripped those involved including President of Congress and FRG
chief Rios Montt of their legislative immunity to face charges in the case. At roughly the same time,
the PAN opposition suffered an internal split and broke into factions; the same occurred in the ANN.
Reforms essential to peace implementation still await legislative action.
The Accord on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the Indigenous Accord) was signed in 1995
as part of the peace accords. It contains commitments to constitutional reforms to promote and respect
certain indigenous peoples rights, mainly related to issues of cultural rights and identity, participatory
mechanisms, the role of indigenous authorities and customary law. Even with this accord, conditions
for indigenous women in particular continue to degenerate. Indigenous women continue to be
discriminated against and exploited stated by a Report on the Situation of Indigenous Women by the
Defensoria.

Models Of Theories Of Memory
Evaluate two models of theories of memory.
This essay will evaluate two models of theories of memory. Memory can be defined as the persistence
of learning over time via the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information. Encoding is the process
of categorizing incoming information through conscious effortful processing, rehearsal, or
unconscious automatic processing. The storage process involves the retention of encoded information
over time. Lastly, retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory. There are various
types of memory. Sensory memory is the immediate, initial recording of sensory information in the
memory system. It also plays a vital role in filtering out useless information, enabling us to focus our
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some information from the sensory store moves to the STM by paying attention to information, while
some information from the STM moves to the LTM via constant rehearsal of that information. Once
that piece of information is stored in the LTM, it is long lasting perhaps even for a lifetime if that
certain piece of information is that strong. The difference in forgetting between the STM and LTM is
that memory forgotten from the short term store is lost whereas forgotten memories in the LTM are
still in the system but cannot be retrieved. The sensory, short term, and long term memory stores also
differ from one another in regards to duration (how long information can be stored), capacity (how
much information can be stored), and coding (in what form information can be stored). The sensory
store decays rapidly, has unlimited capacity, and the information is picked up by our senses. Sensory
memory includes iconic (visual), haptic (touch), and echoic (auditory) memories as well. STM lasts 15
30 seconds, is limited to 7 plus/minus 2 units, and is coded acousting. The information in STM is lost
unless it is rehearsed via repetition. On the other hand, LTM can potentially last a lifetime, has
unlimited capacity, and the information stored is primarily semantic but also acoustic and visual. The
strengths of the multi store model include: it stimulated further research into memory processes; it has
considerable evidence for

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Economic Crisis
The second World War broke out and once again military engineering triggered the much need
economic growth. During the war the American economy seemed to breathe fresh air. Suddenly there
were opportunities everywhere. The country began to use this war as a catalyst to gear up the industry.
The unemployed got inducted in the defence services. The governments subsidized wage program also
gave renewed impetus to the factories. The factories in turn generated employment. Military
engineering also propelled the economy with new growth arenas. New shipyards, bus services and
emergence of new electronic factories suddenly seem to bring in the lost glory to the US economy.

There is a science to it. There are many reasons one may attribute to this. One of them is that after
falling into the crisis the weaknesses of the economy gets exposed. These weaknesses may or may not
be the reasons for the emanated crisis but surly they now grab the eyeballs. Due to the crisis the policy
reforms get speeded up and measures are taken to tackle the weakness. In situations where financial
deficit take place austerity measures work. These measures have great impact as the spending of the
government reduces the fiscal deficit to huge extent. This is what the Greece policy reforms are
working at. During crisis, the measures aim to immediate relief and also long term solutions to current
problems. This kind of strategy has a great impact. To provide immediate relief some stress is put on
the economy but the long term now looks safe. In the long run when the economy recovers the stress
is relieved. This kind of policy reforms was used in America in the last recession. The idea was to
print money and inject them into the economy to boost spending; when the economy would recover
the policy would be to draw the excess money. The idea here was not a defensive move but more of an
aggressive policy reform. It has been seen throughout history that protectionist attitude leads to
aggregating the crisis and taking it into deeper zones of trouble while aggressive reforms boost the
recovery process. There is a saying Fortune favours the brave . Here it holds

What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act
In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the
colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper had
to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and
playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants,
printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act was
not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that initiated the
first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to their counterparts
in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British colonists in America felt
deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to representation. Per the
unwritten British Constitution, only representatives for whom British subjects voted could tax them .

Meursault s Personality
The first lines of Albert Camus novel The Stranger shows Meursault s character traits as Camus starts
off the novel with a detached sort of feeling that sticks with Meursault from the beginning to the end.
The Existentialist part of Meursault s character is significant in part one but as the novel progresses
Meursault starts to show the absurdist attitude that he shows in part two of The Stranger. Meursault s
character in The Stranger is built upon the ideas of existentialism and absurdism and how nature

to his attorney before his court appearance he talks about what he associates it with scenes like this in
books and it all seemed like a game to me (Camus 64). He sees this situation with him and the

Patriot Essay
Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle weary peacenik (his eldest
son joins the army against his wishes), but if he believes in liberating the colonies from the tyranny of
King George III, he believes even more fervently in smiting the holy bejesus out of the soldiers who
have torn his family apart. That these aristocratic oppressors happen to be the same redcoats who are
fighting to quash the American Revolution is, shall we say, a matter of the highest moral convenience.
Written by Robert Rodat ( Saving Private Ryan ) and directed by the heavy tromping blockbuster
maestro Roland Emmerich ( Independence Day, Godzilla ), The Patriot is set in fields, forests, homes,
and backwaters, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, the opposing armies, in their red and blue uniforms, line up in stately rows, absurdly
organized, like marching bands with muskets. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles
become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and barely
equipped. It s Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in the woods.
Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy scene, he sneaks
out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson), who leads
the British troops in the South. Cornwallis is actually an honorable fellow, and that s his problem. He
approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a civilized assertion of Empire.
What he can t wrap his mind around, because it has barely existed before, is the notion of a soldier
who fights as an individual, without rules.
As long as it stays on the battlefield, The Patriot is a brutishly compelling broad canvas entertainment.
But the movie is also inflated with clichés from the screenwriter s manual. There s the motley crew of
loutish colorful proles who join Martin s militia, the squeaky clean romance between Martin s soldier
son (Heath Ledger) and a local lass (Lisa Brenner), the vacuously noble slave turned soldier (Jay
Arlen Jones) who counts down the months before he s freed from servitude, and, of

Damnation: An Examination of Phaedra and the Agencies Human Suffering
Racine s departure from Euripides is evident. His play is named Phaedra and her suffering dominates
the production from beginning to end. However what is not fully disclosed to readers and likewise to
our own understanding of the human situation, is morality s agency as the spawn of doom. This all too
human reality is embodied in the character of Phaedra, as the progression of her fluctuating sanity, yet
moral desire for deliverance from her frustrated passions depicts a world that is not governed by a
merciful God of the gospels, but rather a malevolent force that ensnares the mind and the spirit; a

To those readers or spectators that live in a world of moral ambiguity and mediocrity, what are we to
take away from such a tragedy? If the theater, according to Racine, is meant to inspire virtue, it seems
that we ourselves should consider our own existence as being in the ontological throws of a concealed
moral universe. To fully disclose the mechanisms and relationships that influence, or perhaps even
determine our fate, is universally unattainable and only possible as a God. Perhaps then the virtues of
faith and compassion, regardless of religious conviction, hold an even greater importance than we

Conclusion
The initial analysis of Likert scale measurement should not involve variables, but should rely on the
ordinal data. These scales usually represent a constant fundamental measure, and the individual
variables should be used as a pilot measurement s of testing (Sullivan and Artino, 2013). Combining
Likert scales into tables adds values and variability to the data. If the assumptions of regularity are
met, analysis with variable procedures can be followed. Finally, converting a five or seven category

Ultrasound Position Papers
Position Paper My first experience with physical therapy occurred in my small hometown of northern
Michigan. The clinic was a local private practice which had been around for years. Looking back,
some of the techniques used in this location did not seem to be exclusively evidenced based. One
specific instance I recall is how my physical therapist used ultrasound on my knee after I tore my
ACL. This treatment technique in the physical therapy setting is what I would like to focus this paper
on. Never being employed as a physical therapy aide or even in the healthcare setting my experience
and knowledge on the subject was minimal. The physical therapist had my full trust and any technique
he performed went on without question. One could assume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, if you do or do not decide to use ultrasound in your practice, there should also be exercise
and movement based treatments in the plan. Through researching this topic, I have made some great
conclusions. I believe it is paramount that additional research is conducted regarding the effectiveness
of ultrasound as treatment. If I had to choose between using or not using ultrasound in my practice, I
would not use it. I believe our profession is capable of problem solving and developing new
techniques that will be even more effective and most importantly, evidenced based. I want to be
known for my integrity and trustworthiness with my patients. I feel as though the 5 10 minutes it takes
to treat with ultrasound could be used in a more effective way. Now, if a patient were to specifically
ask for ultrasound as a treatment, I would explain what the research states. If they still wanted to,
maybe because of previous experience, I would continue with the ultrasound treatment. In the vast
majority of cases, ultrasound is completely safe. If the patient shows improvement from ultrasound,
placebo or not, it benefits the patient. The patient is the most important aspect of this argument, we

INTRODUCTION PURPOSE AND ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A seminal study recently commissioned by a government Committee of Teacher Education Policy
(COTEP), the so called National Teacher Education Audit (henceforth referred to as the Audit),
reported that there is an over supply of teachers in some school subjects (e.g. Biblical Studies) and an
under supply in other subjects (e.g. Science and Mathematics). These findings seem to corroborate
widespread news reports that new teachers are not finding employment. The apparent contradiction
between supply and demand alluded to above raIses important questions regarding the employment of
teachers. Is there, in fact, an oversupply of teachers? Do teacher education graduates find employment
in teaching? Do Science and Mathematics teacher education graduates, in fact, fill positions in these
assumed critical areas? To address these and related questions, a study was designed to track a cohort
of new teachers with the goal of ascertaining their employment status in the years immediately
following their graduation. ,The study used a longitudinal tracer study design to trace the 1995 cohort
of teacher graduates of the Faculty of Education, University of Durban Westville. Data were collected
at three different periods: at graduation (July 1996), at the end of the school year (December 1996),
and at the beginning of the new school year (January 1997). Survey questionnaires were used for the
collection of data from students, while

Henderson Hasselbalch Lab Report
In the first experiment my partner and I selected to produce a buffer that contained 35mL of .1M
sodium acetate with 10 mL of .2M acetic acid with the excepted pH of the solution to be 5. We used
C1V1=C2V2 to first calculate the theoretical concentration of both the weak acid and the weak base in
the buffer solution. Then using the theoretical concentration and the Henderson Hasselbalch equation
we were able to calculate the excepted pH. After calculating the pH we then measured the
experimental pH of the produced buffer and found it to be 4.9. This showcased that there was a
difference of 2% between the theoretical pH and the experimental pH. We further measured the
buffering capacity of three different samples one being the buffer that ... Show more content on

signs of contamination. Though titration may involve many tedious steps I believe that titration has
provided me with accurate answer. Some errors that may have occurred in the lab are not switching
the micropipette tip between the spotting of the amino acids. Also not wiping down the pH meter

My Primary Artifact Essay
My primary artifact sample is a makeup tutorial in text/picture form. In this tutorial, the kyshadow
bronze palette is being used by Kylie Jenner herself. Kylie Jenner made a video tutorial of this look
and took little clips out and made a picture how to tutorial to simplify how to get this makeup look.
My next artifact is a makeup video tutorial video by Kylie Jenner s makeup artist using the same
kyshadow palette. I liked this video because the makeup artist tells the viewer what specific brushes
she is using, what colors she is using and exactly where she is putting them. My final artifact is
another kyshadow makeup video tutorial by Roxette Arisa. I chose this video tutorial because it s not
like the other tutorials. Roxette talks about what she thinks about the palette and also does a makeup
look and explains it very well. My artifacts all belong in the makeup genre. My first artifact would fall
under the sub genre of picture/text and my other two artifacts ... Show more content on

In the tutorial by Kylie s makeup artist, I feel that it was a combination of my primary picture tutorial
and a video because it had text of the steps but the makeup artist was also explaining what she was
doing which was effective and could be helpful for the viewer. In Roxette s tutorial I liked how she
gave a first impression of the palette and that could make a video more effective for the viewer if they
haven t used the palette yet, or aren t so literate in makeup. I think my primary artifact could ve been
more effective if it was more organized and gave more in depth instructions of the makeup look. It
would also need to include more information about the palette and what specifics the viewer needs to
get this look; then I would feel more confident about using a picture tutorial over a video

Ezra Pound And Modernist Poetry
The following poems share a similar theme: Ezra Pound s A Few Don ts, Wallace Stevens Of Modern
Poetry, Archibald Macleish s Ars Poetica, and Marianne Moore s Poetry. Each of these authors felt
they had discovered superlative methods to write the most powerful poetry. However, the details and
methods which each author used varied from one another. Born in 1885, Ezra pound is known as one
of Modernist poetry s biggest contributors. His poetry of the early 20th century was unconventional
and controversial for its time. He studied endlessly to understand every facet of poetry and pave his
own way in the field. He pioneered the imagist movement and developed rubrics which imagist poems
were to follow. In A Few Don ts, Ezra Pound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His poetry is experimental and was influenced by the works of numerous modernist poets. As he aged,
his poems developed to be more traditional. Many of his works in the 1930 s analyzed social and
political issues that plagued the world during this period. Ars Poetica challenges how one interprets
their own reality, and his own guidelines to powerful poetry. He uses strong, apt images to convey his
points. MacLeish believes a poem should be worldess As the flight of birds (MacLeish 789). This
poem is much more abstract than the other two, but shares the same theme of trying to connect to the
reader and illicit strong feelings. MacLeish believes that A poem should not mean But be (MacLeish
790). A poem should speak for itself and use strong images for the reader to ponder. This leaves the
poem more open to interpretation and discussion. Marianne Moore was born in Missouri in 1887. She
was a modernist poet; however, the subjects which she chose to write about differed from the average
modernist. Most modernist poetry during this time was centered around the state of modern
civilization. Moore chose to center her poetry around animals, nature, and poetry itself. Her poem
Poetry starts off somewhat perplexing when she states I, too, dislike it: there are things that are
important beyond all this fiddle (Moore 791). This is demonstrating irony, because

The Foreign And Security Policy
To achieve an ever closer Union members of the European Union had to relinquish certain governance
authorities to the Supranational Institutions of the European Unions. The accumulation of power in
governance by the EU institutions over the past 50 years have shown that member states are willing to
empower the Institutions in regards to their economic policies and social policies which had profound
impact on the lives of the European citizens and raised their living standards dramatically. In order to
maintain this progressive trajectory a cohesive foreign policy initiative was seen necessary. Major
European member states were reluctant in giving up their sovereign right of making their foreign
policies to the supranational institutions of the European Union. Therefore, a forum in which EU
countries would come together to discuss and cohere their foreign policies was deemed necessary. As
result, the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) was initiated to fulfill the desired role. The
Common Foreign and Security policy have many weaknesses, which can have significant affect on the
direction of future integration in its realm.
The Maastricht Treaty established the Common Foreign And Security Policy (CFSP) to replace
European Political Cooperation (EPC). The CFSP was one of the pillars of the European Union Until
the Treaty of Lisbon changed the pillar systems. The main area of operation for CFSP is defense,
security, and external affairs. The main objective of the forum

Evolution Of The Freeway System Essay
The Evolution of the Freeway System in Los Angeles
Society has always been a continuous community of movement; trying to get from one place to
another. Commuting citizens, cargo and information has always been a significant contributor to the
economic and societal life of many municipalities. From the industrial age, society has been
progressively reliant on different transportation systems in order to accomplish trade, distribution of
supplies, tourism and so on. As the suburban sprawl continues to expand, technology advances. The
resources needed to attain successful transportation has evolved over many historical revolutions to
accommodate a growing population and the immense density of a growing city. Developments in
mechanics has permitted people to move faster with greater amount of supplies and travel longer
distances, but not without challenges. Urban planners have an outlying role in freeway development
that explains the challenges needed to be overcome to excel in successful transportation services.
Urban planners have the duty to conduct political negotiations between different levels of the
government to excel and expand our urban society. Information needed to fully understand the
evolution will demonstrate the importance and impact freeway systems have on urban and suburban
lifestyles.
The decision to start implementing a system that allows automobiles to quickly get through regulated
traffic by using different roads that are composed together, will result in

Decline Of Crime Rates In Canada
Throughout the years, crime rates in Canada s and the United States major cities have decreased
drastically. Regardless of the many factors that lead to increasing crime rates, such as unemployment,
or bad economic circumstances. This essay will examine the many factors leading to the exponential
decline of crime rates in North America. This essay will demonstrate how unemployment and
economic hardship does not always lead to higher crime rates, how the growing increase of new
technology aided in the decrease in crime rates, and the result of government funded programs helping
to reduce crime rate. These factors should be discussed because it illustrates the progress of the
judicial system and federal government throughout the years and it shows that people most vulnerable
to committing crimes may not always commit crime. Similarly, it shows that economic factors leading
to crime in the past are not always the case due to positive behavioral changes throughout the years.
The general themes of the articles are based on economic factors, technology, the justice system and
people of certain age groups that are most likely to commit crimes, and how they all contribute to the
major decline in crime rates over the years. It is also stating the factors related to the rise in crime and
examining how they exponentially decreased as the world became more modernized. The central
points that the authors of these articles are stating that statistics show from the 1980s to the

The Banning Of Abortion In The United States
A sixteen year old cancer patient was denied her chemotherapy because it would mean she had abort
her baby. Twenty days after being admitted into the hospital the doctor finally started treatment.
Unfortunately it was too late. Rosa was thirteen weeks pregnant when she died and had a miscarriage
followed by cardiac arrest. If a mother s life is in danger and the doctor knows there is no way to save
the baby then they need to save the mother no matter what. A doctor has a responsibility to take care
of their patient and treat their patient to their specific needs (Swanson, Kara W). Although many
people believe that no one should have an abortion, some circumstances require an abortion due to the
health of the mother, physically, and mentally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An average of 89,000 rape cases are reported annually, the United States is the sixth state with the
highest rape counts (Rape Statistics.). Women who are raped become emotionally, physically, and
sometimes mentally affected, and sometimes those women or young girls who are raped become
pregnant and seek abortion to help them in their unfortunate situation. Abortion is a choice that a
mother make and that choice stays with them forever (Brown, Kristi Burton). Abortion can also
mentally and physically harm not just the other but the baby also. There are three main ways a doctor
can do an abortion, partial birth abortion, dilation and evacuation, and saline abortion. When a doctor
completes a partial birth abortion they are sucking the brain out of the baby and killing them, when
dilation and evacuation is completed they take a sharp edged instrument and grasp the baby shredding
them to pieces. A Saline solution is just how it sounds, the fluids are replaced with saline and it kills
off the baby ( Unborn Babies Can Feel Pain. ). Some people can find this relieving that they are no
longer going to have their baby but the toll it can take on them really isn t worth it. Mothers who
decide to abort their baby can end up with more health risks emotionally and physically than a mother
who decides to just have the baby. Women who abort are two times more likely to become

Why Hamlet Needs To Die
Hamlet s view of death morphs through the course of the play as he is faced with various problems
and troubles that force him to deal with life differently. This holds particular significance for a modern
audience who, unlike the predominately Christian audiences of Shakespeare s time, contains an
assortment of perspectives on the subject. For the majority of the play, Hamlet yearns for death, but
there are different tones to his yearning as he confronts death in different circumstances; from his
encounter with his father s ghost to the discovery of his beloved Ophelia dead in the ground, Hamlet
feels an irrepressible urge to end his life. There are obstacles that get in his way, both internal and
external, and Shakespeare s play is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By behaving provocatively (crazy) and exposing his uncle s perfidy, Hamlet hopes to drive his uncle
murderous once again, so that he can kill him and die a hero. It is ironic that Hamlet uses retribution
against his father s death as the means to reach his own death. His attitude toward the concept of death
at this point is split; he behaves as though his father s death is a bad thing, yet he seems dead set
(pardon the pun) on bringing on his own death through his bizarre and provocative antics.
Hamlet s antics climax with the visiting players putting on a performance of The Murder of Gonzago,
which Hamlet designs in order to catch the conscience of the king (2.2.610). Unfortunately, it
succeeds too well, and Hamlet finds his uncle alone and penitent, and thus unfit to send to Hell. This
seems a peculiar deviation from the Hamlet earlier in the play who abides by the Christian code
against suicide; in desiring not only his uncle s death, but his damnation as well, Hamlet takes on a
decidedly evil and soulless countenance. One might argue that it is his father s ghost who imbues this
diabolical edge to Hamlet, that Hamlet s face to face experience with the grave has tainted his spirit
(Gottschalk 156). Or, one might also reason that Hamlet s continual fixation on death, suicide, the
dark and morbid

Evaluation Of A Research Project
6.1 Introduction and overview
This section describes the methodology used for the research. It considers first the philosophical
position agreed for the research, then the methodology involved in the research. In this case, the
research was made up of a focus group, using a sample of young people and adults with LDD and a
small number of parents and carers who completed questionnaires. The methods of data analysis were
then documented, and the final section reflects on issues of validity and reliability.
6.2 Philosophical position
It is understood that all research is centred on the researchers motivating philosophical assumptions.
Smith and Wood s opinions are that worldviews and philosophical positions are the basis for making
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, these worldviews and philosophical assumptions are what researchers have endorsed to
carry out their research along with their chosen methodologies for the expansion of gathering new
knowledge in a given study (Frels and Onwuegbuzie, 2016). Therefore, to conduct and evaluate any
research, it is important for that reason to know what these assumptions are.
6.3 Epistemology foundationalism
It is explained that Epistemology is a term that describes the nature of knowledge and the means of
knowing; how we know what we know or what we conceive as a truth (Kuada, 2012, p.59) and the
way knowledge is created and constructed or revealed and fixed (Wisker, 2011). Epistemology also
provides a philosophical background for deciding what kinds of knowledge are legitimate and
adequate, which helps with the most novice of researchers who quickly select a data gathering method
as they are keen to get on with the job (Gray, 2011).
Positivism is seen as being concerned with gathering facts about a reality that is seen as real
(Silverman, 2006) in order to explain human behaviour (Bryman and Bell, 2011). In opposition to this
is interpretivism that seeks to understand human behaviour (Maylor and Blackman, 2005), whilst
constructionism holds the belief that as reality is socially constructed and subjective there are multiple
realities, Berger and Luckman

Argumentative Essay About Pennies
To American Citizens,
Chance are, you ve likely used a penny in your lifetime. Everywhere you look, you ll find pennies.
Between your couch cushions or on the street, pennies are everywhere. But have you ever thought,
how much do pennies cost, and why do we still use them? We need to get the United States Mint to
stop production of the penny and slowly take it out of circulation. This is only possible if we all band
together and demand a change in our currency.
Before we finally agree to do away with the penny, let s learn a little bit more about its history. The
penny, the first currency of any type authorized by the U.S. government, was initially struck in 1787,
though it didn t become legal tender until 1856. Since then, more than 300 billion one cent coins have
been minted. Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. president to adorn a coin when he was put on the
penny in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of his birth (he wasn t added to the $5 bill until 1914). The
Lincoln penny was also the first to include the inscription In God We Trust ( Should We Eliminate the
Penny? ) If the penny seems like an ancient artifact, that s because it is. Pennies were made over 200
years ago. Don t you think in such a fluctuating and constantly changing economy, a newer form of
currency would be necessary?

Understanding The Way Jesus, The Disciples, And Most Of...
To understand the way Jesus, the disciples, and most of the Jewish community lived, 7 2 B.C. to 30 33
A.D., one must look into further detail at the surrounding communities. One of the surrounding
nations to the Jewish were the Samaritans ...an offshoot the Jewish religion, from which they split
over the question of the location of the temple as week as other matter; the descendants of settlers who
were transplanted into palestine in 722 B.C. by the Assyrian king Sargon... . It is possible to
summarize their alienation and and their main differences saying that it was a process that began with
the Kindgom of Israel being divided, and with promoted antagonism it continued through successive
incidents, including the foreign tribes sent into Samaria by Assyria, rejection of this new Samaritan
community by Jewish people, the building of a temple on Mount Gerazim instead of Jerusalem, the
political and religious opportunism of the Samaritans, and the destruction of both the Samaritan
temple and their capital of Shechem by John Hyrcanus during the 2nd century B.C. The Samaritan
religion at the time of Jesus had become strongly anti Jewish, but was also Mosaic and quasi
Sadducean. Jesus recognized their pagan origins and the falsity of their religious claims. To fully
understand how this knowledge aids are interpretation of the people living in Jesus time and the
Gospels, one must analyze the Samaritans origins, their beliefs and writings, and their relationship

  • 2. African-American Cultural Beliefs Essay African American is a politically correct term used to refer to blacks within the United States. The roots of many African American rites can be traced back to African cultural rites. However, it is important to note that not all blacks in America identify with African cultural roots. Therefore, some of the rites found within what many in the United States call African American culture stem from Caribbean and other cultural traditions. For this reason, when making end of life decisions or funeral arrangements the cultural identification, spirituality and the social class the individual identifies with must be taken into account. The black majority within the United States identifies with Afrocentric traditions and perspectives. For this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this end it is common for African Americans to not mitigate pain and suffering while pursuing any and all life sustaining treatments made available to them (Barrett, 2002). African Americans will generally even pursue life saving treatments aggressively when they are informed of the treatments futility (Barrett, 2005). The African American cultural view of death is one of normalcy. They view death as comfortable and familiar. The sanctity of life and its preservation is extremely important within African American culture but when death comes it is considered natural and an accepted part of life (Barrett, 2002). This differs from the traditional American cultural perspective that after the mid to late 1900 s came to view death as unnatural and something to be hidden (Corr, 2009). African American culture may consider death to be a natural part of life but the sanctity of life is also very important to them. For this reason African Americans are more inclined to aggressively pursue life saving treatments than those from traditional American culture (Barrett, 2005). Members of African American culture are also less likely to want to talk about or deal with end of life decision making (Welch, 2005). When coping with the psychological dimension of dying, African Americans are normally less willing to discuss end of life decisions as well as treatment preferences, unlike their culturally traditional American counterparts. • 3. Cons Of Cultural Relativism I. Description Cultural relativism is the concept that morality is based upon culture, [...] there are sometimes differing moral standards and practices in various cultures (Hollinger, 2002, Kindle Locations 212 218). Morals are not universal, practices are accepted or rejected by the individual culture and change as the culture changes. II. Critique A. Pros of Cultural Relativism 1. Cultural relativism gives one a license to believe what they desire. They find a culture that suits their desires. Where they can remain unaffected by beliefs of the outside world. 2. As relative, by its very nature, implies flexibility people are drawn to formulate values from the flexibility. 3. A culture s truth is their own, thereby creating their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cons of Cultural Relativism 1. Numerous value systems muddy the water and eventually dilutes morality as a whole. This approach prevents the internal dimension of our personal relationship with God. Our outward expression of the inward spirituality, the external dimension, is unattainable as we are not able to have a personal relationship with God without his moral system. 2. Morality assessments are typically based on a personal value system leaving little room for cultural diversity. The internal dimension is to be free of judgment and the external dimension is to love one another. If so, this requires cultures to be tolerant of all other cultures. 3. Relativism rejects universal morals. It does not acknowledge the basic principle of the external dimension, practiced morals from a Godly value system. That Godly value system can only come from the internal dimension. 4. A cultural moral system is accepted by those within their own culture. The culture does not concern itself with outside acceptance. Weakness in both the internal and external Christian framework is prevalent in this mindset. The culture models behavior without concern of consequences. This is opposite of what God modeled to mankind and what the Bible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Impact of Institutional Factors and Election Mechanisms... In the 2012 United States Presidential election 58.2 percent of the registered voters turnout out to vote (IDEA). This figure is in stark contrast to many other wealthy democracies in the western world for the same election cycle (IDEA). This begs the question, why is voter turnout significantly lower in the US compared to the rest of the first world and other OECD countries? There are countless factors that could affect voter turnout, the most standard of which are based on socioeconomic status. But when considering only developed nations, more is at play in predicting turnout. Focus is turned to institutional factors and the effect election mechanisms, such as registration laws and party systems, have on political participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These institutional factors increase the resources necessary for a member of the public to vote, thus discouraging political participation. Much of the proceeding argument hinges off of the Resource Model of Participation, which states that an individual votes, or more generally participates in politics, base on their personal stock of time, money, and civic skills (Verba, Schlozman, and Brady). It cost personal resources to vote, and thus inherently an individual can only do so if they posses those resources ahead of time. Additional credibility is gained from the Rational Choice Model of Participation, which assumes that an individual votes based on logic, and will only cast a vote if receiving a net benefit from doing so (Blais). In this way, even someone possessing the resources to vote may be turned away because the burden of institutional factors decreases the net benefit of voting. In the 2012 presidential election in the United States, as stated before, 58.2 percent of registered voters turned out to vote. During the same election period, 80.35 percent turnout out for the presidential elections in France, 71.55 percent in Germany, and 75.19 percent in Italy (IDEA). Only the highest election in each respective country is considered. While these percentages may seem similar, when talking about a nation on tens if not hundreds of millions of people, five percentage points one way or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Bill Of Rights A controversial topic that many protested for was, freedom of speech. After many years of wanting to be heard, Americans finally achieved the assurance of having a voice. The Bill of Rights was passed on December 15, 1791; commencing with the First Amendment. The First Amendments defends freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition. Stated in the U.S. Constitution, the First Amendment declares Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech. Thus, meaning that citizens cannot be imposed of civil liability from what they say or write with exceptions. Even though freedom of speech recognizes many arguments, discussions, and expression, it will only be valid through the qualifications the First Amendments states with the exceptions included. Highly entrenched in the constitution, freedom of speech is one of the most treasured freedoms that has been protected once achieved. Many back in the day, fought for this privilege that we now have. Back then, they were not allowed to speak against the government with topics such as, unfair laws, taxation, etc. With such privilege though, there had to be some clarifications. Freedom of speech does not imply that there is a right to speak anywhere and at any time. There is a time and place for everything. Thus, meaning that protestor can protest in areas that are neutral; being that they initially favor both sides. Other restrictions are, advocacy of unlawful activities, fighting words, and hate speech. In a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay On Hester Prynne In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne describes the life of Hester Prynne as a struggle with society, forced to wear a scarlet A as a public reminder and shaming of the adultery she has committed. However, her lover, Arthur Dimmesdale, must only live with the guilt of the deed, rather than being shamed by the Puritan world. Indeed, the novel demonstrates the strength of the oppressed against the weakness of the privileged when both are plagued with shame or guilt. At the beginning, the town assembles as Hester Prynne displays her wicked scarlet A, representing the unholy deed of adultery she has committed. The town scrutinizes her, feeling she deserved worse, that they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s forehead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The members of Puritan society all pressure the wickedness of Hester s deed, and their condescending manner puts Hester in an oppressed position, both as an adulterer, and as a woman. As the woman in the adultery, she must take the public shame and care for the daughter, Pearl, who is in her arms as she stands on the scaffold, a thousand unrelenting eyes, all fastened upon her, and concentered at her bosom (Hawthorne 10). But despite the prejudice Hester must endure from society, rises much stronger and utilizes the scarlet letter to increase her worth. The book alludes to Anne Hutchinson, who led a group of religious dissenters and this allusion even anticipates the scarlet letter that she wears (Themes). Hester starts to wear the A with pride, making it her own, and turned her problems into solutions. Even the members of Puritan society were astonished, and even startled, to perceive how her beauty shone out and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she was enveloped (Hawthorne 7). She wore misfortune as a badge, and used the A in her own terms. Sally Buckner explains that despite Hester s isolation from Puritan society and the normal people, she has come to terms ... The Political Community in Guatemala Essay The Political Community The social apartheid that exist in Guatemala separates Guatemala into two places and does not allow the country to be united, both democratically socially. The indigenous population is separated from opportunities. Without the minimal conditions, necessary for citizens to exercise their rights in practice there is not citizenship and therefore no true democracy. The administration made some progress on such issues as taking state responsibility for past human rights cases, supporting human rights in international forums, and pressing labor rights reforms, but it failed to show significant advances on combating impunity in past human rights cases, military reforms, and legislation to increase political participation. The political balance was once again disrupted in 2000 when allegations surfaced that the FRG had illegally altered legislation. Following an investigation, the Supreme Court stripped those involved including President of Congress and FRG chief Rios Montt of their legislative immunity to face charges in the case. At roughly the same time, the PAN opposition suffered an internal split and broke into factions; the same occurred in the ANN. Reforms essential to peace implementation still await legislative action. The Accord on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the Indigenous Accord) was signed in 1995 as part of the peace accords. It contains commitments to constitutional reforms to promote and respect certain indigenous peoples rights, mainly related to issues of cultural rights and identity, participatory mechanisms, the role of indigenous authorities and customary law. Even with this accord, conditions for indigenous women in particular continue to degenerate. • 11. Models Of Theories Of Memory Evaluate two models of theories of memory. This essay will evaluate two models of theories of memory. Memory can be defined as the persistence of learning over time via the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information. Encoding is the process of categorizing incoming information through conscious effortful processing, rehearsal, or unconscious automatic processing. The storage process involves the retention of encoded information over time. Lastly, retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory. There are various types of memory. Sensory memory is the immediate, initial recording of sensory information in the memory system. It also plays a vital role in filtering out useless information, enabling us to focus our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some information from the sensory store moves to the STM by paying attention to information, while some information from the STM moves to the LTM via constant rehearsal of that information. Once that piece of information is stored in the LTM, it is long lasting perhaps even for a lifetime if that certain piece of information is that strong. The difference in forgetting between the STM and LTM is that memory forgotten from the short term store is lost whereas forgotten memories in the LTM are still in the system but cannot be retrieved. The sensory, short term, and long term memory stores also differ from one another in regards to duration (how long information can be stored), capacity (how much information can be stored), and coding (in what form information can be stored). The sensory store decays rapidly, has unlimited capacity, and the information is picked up by our senses. Sensory memory includes iconic (visual), haptic (touch), and echoic (auditory) memories as well. STM lasts 15 30 seconds, is limited to 7 plus/minus 2 units, and is coded acousting. The information in STM is lost unless it is rehearsed via repetition. On the other hand, LTM can potentially last a lifetime, has unlimited capacity, and the information stored is primarily semantic but also acoustic and visual. The strengths of the multi store model include: it stimulated further research into memory processes; it has considerable evidence for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the war the American economy seemed to breathe fresh air. Suddenly there were opportunities everywhere. The country began to use this war as a catalyst to gear up the industry. The unemployed got inducted in the defence services. The governments subsidized wage program also gave renewed impetus to the factories. The factories in turn generated employment. Military engineering also propelled the economy with new growth arenas. New shipyards, bus services and emergence of new electronic factories suddenly seem to bring in the lost glory to the US economy. One of them is that after falling into the crisis the weaknesses of the economy gets exposed. These weaknesses may or may not be the reasons for the emanated crisis but surly they now grab the eyeballs. Due to the crisis the policy reforms get speeded up and measures are taken to tackle the weakness. In situations where financial deficit take place austerity measures work. These measures have great impact as the spending of the government reduces the fiscal deficit to huge extent. This is what the Greece policy reforms are working at. During crisis, the measures aim to immediate relief and also long term solutions to current problems. This kind of strategy has a great impact. To provide immediate relief some stress is put on the economy but the long term now looks safe. In the long run when the economy recovers the stress is relieved. This kind of policy reforms was used in America in the last recession. The idea was to print money and inject them into the economy to boost spending; when the economy would recover the policy would be to draw the excess money. The idea here was not a defensive move but more of an aggressive policy reform. It has been seen throughout history that protectionist attitude leads to aggregating the crisis and taking it into deeper zones of trouble while aggressive reforms boost the recovery process. • 14. What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper had to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants, printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act was not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that initiated the first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to their counterparts in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British colonists in America felt deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to representation. Patriot Essay Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle weary peacenik (his eldest son joins the army against his wishes), but if he believes in liberating the colonies from the tyranny of King George III, he believes even more fervently in smiting the holy bejesus out of the soldiers who have torn his family apart. That these aristocratic oppressors happen to be the same redcoats who are fighting to quash the American Revolution is, shall we say, a matter of the highest moral convenience. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and barely equipped. It s Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in the woods. Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy scene, he sneaks out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson), who leads the British troops in the South. Cornwallis is actually an honorable fellow, and that s his problem. He approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a civilized assertion of Empire. What he can t wrap his mind around, because it has barely existed before, is the notion of a soldier who fights as an individual, without rules. As long as it stays on the battlefield, The Patriot is a brutishly compelling broad canvas entertainment. But the movie is also inflated with clichés from the screenwriter s manual. This holds particular significance for a modern audience who, unlike the predominately Christian audiences of Shakespeare s time, contains an assortment of perspectives on the subject. For the majority of the play, Hamlet yearns for death, but there are different tones to his yearning as he confronts death in different circumstances; from his encounter with his father s ghost to the discovery of his beloved Ophelia dead in the ground, Hamlet feels an irrepressible urge to end his life. His attitude toward the concept of death at this point is split; he behaves as though his father s death is a bad thing, yet he seems dead set (pardon the pun) on bringing on his own death through his bizarre and provocative antics. Hamlet s antics climax with the visiting players putting on a performance of The Murder of Gonzago, which Hamlet designs in order to catch the conscience of the king (2.2.610). Unfortunately, it succeeds too well, and Hamlet finds his uncle alone and penitent, and thus unfit to send to Hell. This seems a peculiar deviation from the Hamlet earlier in the play who abides by the Christian code against suicide; in desiring not only his uncle s death, but his damnation as well, Hamlet takes on a decidedly evil and soulless countenance. One might argue that it is his father s ghost who imbues this diabolical edge to Hamlet, that Hamlet s face to face experience with the grave has tainted his spirit (Gottschalk 156).
