Analysis Of I Have A Dream Speech
Throughout history many issues have been fought for through public events like speeches. That being
said, I have found, I Have a Dream by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to be the most compelling speech
about how America fought for freedom but African Americans were still not free, but that they have
the right to Freedom and Liberty. I personally thought the speech was good for three reasons. He had
passion, good word choice that gave depth, and the reason for the speech was courageous and the
issue needed to be fixed. For starters, MLK was a pastor from the south that felt African Americans
were treated unfairly and it needed to change. His passion (pathos) for change brought him to be
arrested multiple times and eventually assassinated for change in America. As we walk, we must make
a pledge that we shall always march ahead. (King 12). This passion created thousands of followers
that continued his dream. MLK uses allusion in I Have a Dream showing the the founding fathers for
freedom and Liberty and he will do the same because of his passion to ensure everyone has equal
rights. He said, This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be
guaranteed the Unalienable Rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness (King 4) he had a
dream of peaceful life that his passion for change would sculpt. I have a dream that one day every
valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be

Role of a Translation as a Mediator Incultural Transformation
Translation means an intense form of cultural and social act of understanding a context and conveying
it to another language and culture. Studying on language theories, culture and translation and the
relationship between these factors are valuable issues dueto the growing importance of human
communication in the world. The variety of languages with different culturesand necessity of
communications in human life caused translation to be a very effective factor in communication,
exchange of cultures, and knowledge. Translation studies emerged as a distinct discipline in the past
few decades and it expanded in unprecedented ways. This expansion has brought with itself a
multitude of different and competing approaches, translation models etc. ... Show more content on

Some translators only deliver the word to word translation or the superficial meaning of the text. This
leads to a loss of the text s core meaning.
Semantic and the cultural difficulties of translation. Translators should know all the characteristics of
the language.
Language can be misused unintentionally. While using a particular expression, the intentions of the
translator could be innocent, but the actual meaning of the expression in the targeted language could
be offensive or sordid.
There are rules and cultural differences to be considered in both languages. It is difficult to express
exactly the same meaning in another language at times. There are sometimes no equivalents for certain
words or expressions.
Difficulties arising out of differences of cultures constitute the most serious problems for translators
and this has produced the most far reaching misunderstanding among readers. Culture itself has its
own limitation in transferring the source text into target text. Each society or group of people is based
on their historical background, local situations, and religion with their specific language, construct
their own culturewhich is respected, performed and accepted along with its limitations.
Limitation in translation is one of thespecific features of culture, not necessarily imposed from outside
world. Behaviours which are acceptable will vary from location to location.
Nowadays, the major problem

How Did George Soros Become Successful
George Soros is one of an exclusive group of elite investors that includes Warren Buffett, Carl Icahn,
Peter Lynch, William J. O Neil, and Jack Bogle. He is a self made billionaire with an estimated net
worth of $24.9 billion, which ranks him as the 15th wealthiest person in the U.S. and the 23rd
wealthiest person in the world. Soros overcame major obstacles during his teenage years to become
one of the most successful businessmen in the world, and he has been able to use his wealth to fight
for causes he believes in and influence U.S. politics. Soros was born in Hungary to a middle class
Jewish family in 1930. Because of the political climate at the time, his parents did what they could to
hide their Jewish roots and even changed their family name from Schwartz to the native Hungarian
name Soros. As a young teenager, he would survive the Nazi occupation of his country in the early
1940s, then in 1947, he would flee the Communist domination of his country with his family to
England. Soon after arriving in England, Soros enrolled in the London School of Economics and

History of Health Insurance Essay
Healthcare didn t always exist in the United States. Before the 1920 s, most people didn t have health
coverage. Most people were treated at home and hardly anyone, except a few large employers offered
healthcare. Everyone else paid out of pocket. As the population shifted from rural areas to urban
centers, families lived in smaller homes with less room to care for sick family members (Faulkner
1960, p. 509). Increasing requirements for licensing and accreditation, in addition to a rising demand
for medical care, eventually led to rising costs. By the end of 1920s, there was an increased demand
for medical care and the costs of medical care increased.
During the time of the Great Depression and after, medical service plans grew. In the ... Show more

Also, a lack of insurance is a huge financial burden for individuals and their families. Lack of health
insurance has social consequences, as well. Some diseases are highly contagious and can be spread
easily to family members, friends, colleagues, co workers and others, one may come in contact with.
With health insurance, these contagious diseases can be contained and cured or treated more quickly
and cost effectively. People without health insurance have limited, reduced access to services of
preventive care, like cancer screening.
Moreover, the benefits of expanding coverage outweigh the costs for added services. [4] Safety net
care from hospitals and clinics improves access to care but does not fully substitute for health
insurance. These findings are supported by much research, although some cautions are appropriate in
using these results. People with health insurance are protected against uncertain and high medical
expenses and are more likely to receive needed and appropriate health care. In addition, having health
insurance is associated with improved health outcomes and lower mortality, so employees with health
insurance are more likely to be productive workers. You do not pay income tax on health insurance
benefits so it is more valuable per dollar than the same amount in taxable pay. [5]

Abolitionism Of 1860
Good afternoon everyone,
After reading chapters 1 and 2 in our textbook I discovered many policies that were instated to help in
the expansion of the West. The one I would like to discuss is the Homestead Act of 1862. Shortly after
the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was instated (moving many Native Americans off of western
territories), many white individuals were hungry for more land. George Henry Evans, a labor leader in
the House, felt he had a solution to the job deficit problem arising in the East. If he could provide
these low income individuals with low cost or free land, it could help eliminate the issue. Most of the
abolitionist were in favor of this act, feeling that it could help end issues associated with slavery and
the poor. While

Employment is a relationship between an employers and employees. This relationship is extremely
important, as it becomes a part of our daily life. Aside of being a professional relationship, in many
cases it becomes a personal and expressive one. In today s work place, if the conditions of
employment are excellent, and the employees are treated with fairly, it is more likely that they will be
pleased, and their productivity will increase. However if the environments in the work place are poor
or not suitable, we will have the total opposite results. To avoid any complications or

During the application and interview stage, the management is able to ask potential employees to
provide them with information of any health problems. The management can inquire of any reason
that might prevent an employee to perform his/her duties. If the employer would like to go into
medical testing, they should wait until the decision to hire the person is made. Testing should only be
performed in direct relevance to the job performance. Hiring the employer is now ready to offer the
successful candidate a position with the organization. Both employer and employee should set out the
standards of their employment relationship. Before the new employee starts, the employer should set
the specific duties that can help to enforce variable issues in the relationship. Before an employer hires
an employee they should keep in mind the potential minefields that can be avoided. When hiring a
new employee you must make sure that the new employee does not have an existing employment
contract with his/her current employer. This will help ensure that you will not be liable for any legal
action against you for inducting breach of contract. In cases where an inducing breach of contract
occurs, the former employer will have to prove that the current employer acted deceitfully or in bad
faith. The current employee must have a valid argument against the claim. The current employer will

My Fair Lady By Eliza Doolittle
Design elements are important because of the part that scenery, costuming, and lighting plays in the
movement of the musical production. As Richard Kislan says, the ultimate objective of the designer of
musicals must be to service the moving forms that characterize the musical theater. (Kislan 251). As a
member of the audience I never recognize the movement of the scenery but enjoy each new set and
costume. Without those important changes of movement the audience might lose interest or feel lost in
a long musical. Musicals are full of costume changes that signify an important event in a character s
plot. A good example is My Fair Lady, where Eliza Doolittle begins the musical with nothing more but
rags and a small weary basket of flowers.

The Involvement Of Child Protective Services
In this research proposal the independent variable is the involvement of Child Protective Services.
Child Protective Service s involvement is measured based on a questionnaire, which ask the
participant have they ever had any previous Child Protective Service involvement, and if so when?
The research will include both participants who have answered yes and no to this question.
Furthermore, if the participant has answered yes, they will only be included if the Child Protective
Service involvement was in the last five years. The dependent variable in the research is the risk
factors of child maltreatment, as measured by the Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory. The three risk
factors that will be examined as part of this research are parental empathy towards children s needs,
the use of corporal punishment, and expectations of children. The source of the data was originally
collected through an intake process. The information regarding our independent variable is collected
in interview form. The intake worker asked the participant several questions including their previous
CPS involvement. Information regarding out dependent variable was originally collected in a self
administered survey. The form is then input into a computer program and results are created. The
independent variable is not manipulated in any way. Procedure The secondary data that we will be
analyzing is collected by the Greater Richmond SCAN s Family Support Program during the intake
process for parenting

Paradise Lost And John Milton
The 17 th century was a time when a great many issues that had arisen since the Reformation came to
ahead: religion, politics, power and freedom were questioned as never before. John Milton was born in
London in 1608 at the height oh the Protestant Reformation in England. His father had left Roman
Catholicism and Milton was raised Protestand, with a heavy tendence toward Puritanism. Milton
excelled in languages such as Latin, Greek, and Hebrew and in classical studies. For more than 20
years, Milton set aside poetry to write political and religious pamphlets for the cause of puritanism.
For a time, he served as Secretary for Foreign Tongues under Cromwell. Milton was a mixed product
of his time. On the one hand, as a humanist, he fought for religious tolerance and believed that there
was something inherently valuable in man. As a puritan, however, he believed that the Bible was the
answer and the guide to all. Where the Bible didn t afford an answer, milton would turn to reason. At
the end of the war, milton was imprisoned for a short time for his views. In 1660, he emerged blind
and disillusioned with the England he saw around him. Milton died of kidney failure in 1674 and was
buried in the church of St. Giles in London.
Paradise Lost is considered to be his master piece. It s a biblical epic poem. It will be the first time in
which an author will mix the epic, which was related to man with religion, which was related to God.
All the texts written before Milton dealt with

What are the Causes and Effects of poverty in the United States?
Jose Flores
Blackstone Academy Charter School
Are all Americans grateful for the things they have? What if Americans do not to have the proper basic
needs? Many Americans do face this situation and it is called poverty. The top three causes of poverty
in United States are lack of education, unemployment and the high cost of health insurance.
Americans can overcome the high rate of poverty and alleviate their struggles by maintaining and
furthering their education which will lead to higher paying jobs and with good medical benefits. In the
state of Rhode Island, 15% of the population is facing the struggle of poverty, based on Rhode Island

2011. P.11). Having the flood at this period of time was a good thing. It put many Rhode Islanders
back to work. However, many small business are closing down in RI, causing many people to lose
their jobs. This is due to the high taxes, fees and regulations that small businesses face if they want to
operate in Rhode Island. All these factors in Rhode Island have impacted the high unemployment rate
thus leading to the high state of poverty. Another factor that will lead one into poverty is the inability
to afford health insurance. A journalist from the Providence Journal, Dujardin, mentioned that Rhode
Island has an average of 18,000 children 17 years of age and younger who were without health
coverage between 2007 and 2009, up from the 16,000 average recorded three years earlier (Richard C.
Dujardin 1). It is not required by law that people should purchase their own health insurance in RI.
Not purchasing health insurance can cause a very serious situation. For example, if one were to be in a
car accident or become ill, not having the medical insurance, they will have to pay large amount of
money out of their own pockets. Lastly, one of the biggest causes of poverty is lack of education. In
the United States, everyone is entitled to a free and appropriated public education. However, not many
take advantage of that opportunity. In Rhode Island, 91% of high school students attend school but
only 76% of them graduate out of the whole state. In Central

The s Compensation System, A Dual Structured, Job Based Plan
Previously in Phase I, FastCat s compensation system was identified as a dual structured, job based
plan. Job evaluation points were used to measure the values for each of the FastCat jobs. Each job was
assigned these evaluation points based on the five compensable factors discussed in Phase I. The
assigned points are used to create a fair compensation system and remain internally aligned. FastCat s
goal is to match the market, or pay the average level for similar jobs within the market rate. In Phase
II of FastCat s compensation system, a dual focus on the base pay and providing incentives for their
employees was recommended. It is ideal for FastCat to match the market to maintain their
competitiveness. This pay policy is most suitable because it will maximize FastCat s ability to attract
and keep good employees, while still being within the company s ability to pay its expenses. Also, this
pay structure will link pay to performance. This will assist FastCat with improving their employee
engagement, motivation, rewarding performances, and increasing productivity. Balancing the
profitability of the company with the pay structure of their employees will greatly regulate the future
success of FastCat. Strategy on External Competitiveness The overall compensation strategy for
FastCat consists of three aspects: pay level, pay mix, and how to integrate internal and external
structure. The pay level generally refers to the average pay of the entire company. The choice

Bhopal Gas Disaster Of 1984
The Bhopal Gas Disaster of 1984
INTRODUCTION
On the Night of December 2, 1984, there was a horrific accident at the Union Carbide Pesticide
Chemical Factory in Bhopal, India. The factory produced a chemical called methyl isocyanate (MIC)
also know by Union Carbide as Liquid Dynamite . It is an organic compound with the molecular
formula CH3NCO MIC is a highly reactive intermediate chemical used to manufacture various
pesticides. This chemical reacts exothermically with water and produces a poisonous gas that can be
fatal. Carbide s greed for a profit proved to be catastrophic for both Union Carbide and the town of
Bhopal. Carbide reduction of the safety features in the factory resulted in the world s largest industrial
disaster in history. Safety features are in place for the safety of the workers, the surrounding area, the
environment, and the repetition of the company and its owners and sure always be adhered to.
DECISION
The Bhopal disaster could have been prevented on many different levels. The Bhopal plant had many
different safety features that would have prevented the disaster from happening altogether, however,
there were more thing that could have prevented the tragedy as well. The Union Carbide received
many reports about MIC and on the conditions of the plant. The most recent being a few months prior
to the disaster. The plant had a medical officer, Kumkum Saxena, whose job was to understand the
chemicals the Union Carbide Company handled in its factories. Ms.

Literary Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises
The Great War of 1914 1918 had numerous consequences: millions of people died and the world was
permanently altered. One of the most significant results of World War 1 was the formation of a lost
generation. This term, first coined by author Gertrude Stein in conversation, refers to the young post
World War 1 men who were emotionally damaged by the horrors experienced during combat and as a
result aimlessly wandered through life with a depressed attitude toward the world ( The Lost
Generation 1). Author Ernest Hemingway, who was himself a member of the Lost Generation,
perfectly encaptured the post war lifestyle of a WW1 veteran in his novel, The Sun Also Rises. The
story is narrated by Jake Barnes, a newspaper writer living in Paris, ... Show more content on

Barnes use of alcohol began during the war, while trying to escape the stress of the unknown threats,
and continued after the war s conclusion. By drinking, Barnes is able to forget his melancholy post
war attitude towards the world. The dependence on alcohol is a side effect of the mental damage
Barnes sustained from the war. Drinking is also how Barnes friend Campbell copes with his outlook
on the world after the war. After discussing his fiancee, Brett, and her relationship with a bullfighter,
Campbell, also a WW1 veteran, exclaims, I think I ll stay rather drunk. This is all awfully amusing,
but it s not too pleasant. It s not too pleasant for me (Hemingway 205). In order to deal with the stress
of having his fiancee in a relationship with a bullfighter, Campbell decides to drink. He prefers to
remain in a state of intoxication because it keeps him from thinking about his relationship issues with
Brett and his other problems with the world by giving him a sweet escape. Hemingway s use of the
drinking motif, especially shown through Barnes and Campbell, demonstrates how the psychological
and emotional damage of the war has caused the Lost Generation to become dependent on alcohol in
order to cope with their depressed attitude toward the world. In addition to the drinking motif,
Hemingway s writing style conveys the theme of negative views towards the world created from the
emotional suffering of World War 1. Throughout

In the middle of September, England was invaded by Harold Hardrada, King of Norway. He was
accompanied by Tostig, Earl of Northumbria, Harold s unruly and discontented brother, who had
earlier been banished and his earldom confiscated Harold went north to meet the invaders at Stamford
Bridge in Yorkshire, where he won a victory over the Viking army. The winds William had been
waiting for turned favorable and he set sail with his massive army. News of his landing at Pevensey
was told to Harold, who responded by hurrying south to meet him, giving his exhausted army no rest.
If Harold had rested and reorganized his army, the outcome of the battle and English history could
have been very different. On the 14th of October, the Saxon and Norman forces clashed in the Battle
of Hastings. Harold took up a defensive position on Senlac Ridge. The Norman army was forced to
attack uphill, placing them at a disadvantage. A rumor arose in the Norman ranks that William was
dead, causing panic. Many of the Saxon fyrdd pursued the fleeing Normans down the hill. William
raised his armies morale by loudly announcing that he was still alive. The Normans with new strength
fought hard against the Saxons, Harold s brothers Gyrth and Leofwine were both slain on the
battlefield. The battle continued for most of the

In what ways are love and avarice intertwined in both novels and to what extent does it effect the

Introduction: At first glance, it is understandable to assume that Fyodor Dostoevsky s The Gambler
and F.Scott Fitzgerald s The Beautiful and Damned are incomparable and unrelated in every way.
However, when exploring in detail the character development in each novel, an alternate verdict can
be presented that shows, beyond peradventure, that both novels share similarities. Granted, The
Gambler is about a tutor working for a Russian family and his evolution into a pathological gambler,
where as The Beautiful and Damned is concentrated on the relationship of a wealthy young couple in
the Roaring 20 s who taste the bittersweet consequences of extravagance as the book traces their
mental, moral and physical disintegration. Nevertheless, both novels explore depression as a
concomitant of the amalgamation between love and avarice. Both Dostoevsky and Fitzgerald, through
different settings, character and circumstances, have created a grandiose psychological portrait of
unrequited love as well as depression through addiction and loss. The Gambler is a semi
autobiographical, first person narrative novel written by Fyodor Dostoevsky following the life of

Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would
create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most
important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police
officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force
necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous
public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms
of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide
adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen
Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people
would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use
of excessive force or even deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly
force encounters our officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved
shootings per year. We had 14 in 2010, and the majority of those were fatal. (Police Executive

Courage is a cardinal virtue every human being needs. Courage is doing something frightening you
are for the right being even if you are alone in your belief. Many regular humans have used courage
also. For example Dr. Martin Luther King jr. stood up for all African Americans, even though almost
everyone did not agree with him. He eventually helped end segregation by raising awareness. Sadly,
Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was killed just for his beliefs. Today we celebrate a holiday for his great
bravery. Bravery is a synonym of courage. Almost all saints in their life have shown courage. One
saint that had courage was Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis was a rich man, however he ignored
all his money for God. He gave up his wealthy life just for his savior. Saint Francis would help sick
people just like how Jesus did. He would approach Lepore s even if people thought he was crazy.

Essay on Edgar Allan Poe s The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe was a writer who believed every single word contained meaning and in his own
words expressed this idea in brevity only he is capable, there should be no word written, of which
tendency, direct or indirect, is not to the one pre established design. (Poe 244). To this effect, Poe
drenches his works in symbolism and allegory. Especially in shorter works, Poe assigns meaning to
the smallest object, explicitly deriving exurbanite significance within concise descriptions. The
Masque of the Red Death tells the story of a Prince Prospero who along with his one thousand friends
sought a haven from the plague that was ravishing their country. They lived together in the prince s

Because inevitability of time and death seems to be the recurring theme, the most likely significance
behind the number of apartments would be the seven stages of life. The first apartment is said to be
placed most eastwardly and is blue in décor, which could signify the rising of the sun, the beginning of
life, and the color of day. And the seventh, and most westerly apartment, is black with red accents and
represents the end of life, the setting of the sun, and death. Poe did not intend a specific meaning for
the number seven, just for the reader to be aware of the passing of time and the idea that the prince
was trying to recreate a perfect world complete with all the appliances of pleasure Without was the
Red Death. (238). The Prince s recreation of the world is ironic because it is modeled after the one the
Prince and his followers are trying to escape. The seven perfect rooms foreshadow the evitable
downfall of perfection. The number seven appears six times in the text which may lead to some
significance behind that number as well. Six could represent human morality, the devil, spiritual
imperfection. The masquerade takes place in the sixth month of isolation in the abbey; the sixth
apartment is where the Prince finally confronts Red Death and eventually

Summary Of Bertrand Russell s The Conquest Of Happiness
Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher and mathematician throughout the late 19th and 20th
centuries. He wrote in many philosophical areas, including epistemology, ethics, and metaphysics,
with some of his most notable works being Theory of Knowledge, Why I m Not a Christian, and In
Praise of Idleness. He also worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematica and
Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for
various pieces of writing he had published. He was also very openly pacifist, and even went to jail in
1918 for publicly encouraging anti war ideology during World War I. Russell is widely considered to
be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness,
discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine
chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional
fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such
unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness,
including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. He demonstrates the
reasons why these are so effective in creating happiness in people and how these goals can be reached.
The book overall preaches contentment rather than total elation, relaxation rather than constant
excitement,

Negative Effects Of Social Media On Children
Negative Effects of Social Media and Children Technology has become very popular with children;
more adults are minimizing the age in which they are supplying their children with technological
devices such as smartphones. As parents, we feel by giving children such technology at an early age
that we are essentially providing an advantage when in fact we are doing the opposite. Exposing your
children to technology at such an early age and they have access to social media makes them prone to
health issues, social issues, and most importantly dangers that could lead to death. Social media opens
the doors to communication to people that a child probably would not speak to in real life. Predators
can disguise themselves as children to chat, exchange pictures, and learn information about your child.
Sometimes, the predators may even try to meet your child to hurt them or even learn their
whereabouts to kidnap them. Different options on smartphones such as GPS gives your child s
location making it easier for predators to find their prey. In real life, your children may not speak to
strangers but on social media and the internet, they are probably more naïve and trustful. Social media
also exposes your child to cyberbullying from classmates and sometimes people they do not even
know. Many children have experienced some form of cyberbullying. Cyberbullies may say meaner
things through the computer or phone than what they would speak to in direct contact because most

that moment Gatsby becomes motivated to become one of the wealthy elite in order to win Daisy and
her family.
In Gatsby s mission to attain wealth, power, and status he loses sight of his morals through his

criminal activities is confirmed by Tom Buchanan one hot summer night when Tom shares that Gatsby

with winning Daisy clouds his mind with thoughts of inspiring her to leave her husband and
abandoned her child. Nick believes Gatsby would want nothing less of Daisy than that she should go

Gatsby s wealth makes others perceive him as sophisticated and possibly intellectual yet his demeanor

In the music industry, it s very common nowadays for most artists to change their appearances to a
more sexually appealing and risque look to attract fans, money, etc. These practices of bad imagery
are present in hip hop music the most out of all the genres. Bad imagery in rap is one of the main
causes of the exploitation of women in this country today. Women are being overexposed in rap music
whether that being a sex symbol, gold digger, or a freak . According to Dr. Carolyn West from the
University of Washington, Black girls are not seeing positive images of who they are and what they
be. Looking at sexual imagery really impacts the functioning of teenage girls (Post Gazette 2).
Teenage girls see these women in various videos and songs and they believe that they should mimic
the same actions that they are portraying. Misogyny is also a present factor in songs like Rake it Up by
Yo Gotti with lines like, I tell all my h***, Rake it up, break it down, bag it up (Yo Gotti 2017). Songs
such as those degrade women and show younger males how to treat women which is a false teaching
toward the younger generation. Teens can be easily swayed by hip hop to become the imagery shown

The Blitz In Graham Greene s The Destructors

Major Paper
Graham Greene wrote The Destructors which is about a group of boys who destroys Mr. Thomas s
house. The story takes place after WWII and explains that Germany demolished London. There are
two things that the story connects to the history of London; one is when Germany attacks London. The
attack was known as The Blitz and shows how much damage Germany has caused London. Another
connection is the movement of the Teddy Boys. The story took place after nine years when the war
ended, and the Teddy Boys movement began around the 1950s. They were known as rebels and had a
reputation for violence. Thus the society blamed the Teddy Boys for many of society s ill in the 1950s.
The history of the Blitz shows how the boys are affected and this is connected to them because they
tend to be rebels and what their response to the world around them. Graham Greene s The Destructors
explained that young people have no hope and promises and challenges the traditional expectations of
them, by showing them to be incapable of finding something practical in the world around them and
within themselves.

Building Dwelling And Thinking Analysis
In our daily life we have different meanings of building, dwelling and thinking. We built buildings to
dwell, but we do not dwell because of buildings. As humans, we like to dwell in some place. When we
went to the Fort Greene Park, we saw the fourfold that Martin Heidegger talks about in his article
Building, Dwelling, thinking . These fourfold are earth, sky, morals, and divinities. First, we saw unity
at this park between the green land, trees and buildings. This park includes part of high ground and a
white building at the center of the park where the soldiers buried. Also, we saw birds fly from one tree
to another. They took the park s trees dwelling for them. We could see the sky from everywhere at the
park. It is horizontal and it gives us the feeling of freedom. Also, we saw people from different ages.
We saw children was playing and enjoying with their time, young people do exercises and some older
people talk to each other. I found that this park is a dwell for many people such as who do exercises,

Why Is Risk Taking Important
From the beginning of mankind to our modern day society, individuals have a tendency to gape at
individuals who put a lot on the line to achieve a desired goal. Whether it be a Marvel superhero to our

of many. We gravitate to be just like these individuals and are ashamed of becoming viewed as a

in research participations Hurley and Underwood (2002, p.2) indicated that children s competence to
assent relied too heavily on comprehensive developmental theories such as Piaget s, which imply that
the capacity to assent increases and risk of harm decrease with age. In any case, it is more difficult for
children to give free and meaningful assent when they did not truly understand the research concepts
(2002, p.2). Moreover, the viability of the study depended on the creation of a situation that was
ecologically valid in that it was provoking for children and required elements of deception (the other
person being an actor and the game being rigged such that participants would not win) and some risk
of emotional distress. Personally, I believe that the second graders might not have clearly understood
their participation responsibilities and accountabilities, in spite of the definitions given to them in the

Labor was used for this statement in order to tell the citizens it will take a lot of hard work from the
craftsmen to make their nation strong. Lastly franchise was used in order to create a stronger economy
for the nation. While national pride can sometimes lead to a stronger more unified nation, there is the
backroom objective of readying for war. Germany was unified by blood and iron in the Prussian wars
before Germany was one nation. The Prussia war campaign against Denmark, Austria, and France led
to the creation of the German Empire. After each victory against these countries the German Empire
gained more and more territories and continuously expanded. The idea of nationalism was not only
used to fuel these wars, but also afterwards in creating a limited government. In fueling these wars, the
citizens were promised that a unified German Empire will lead to prosperity and peace. They were
only too happy to go on the offensive and try and claim new lands in the name of their great nation.
Once they had conquered these lands and claimed a small piece as a prize, they set up Kaiser Wilhelm
as the Emperor on July 18, 1871. After this the Reichstag was formed as the limited government with
the illusion that they could make a difference. In truth, Kaiser Wilhelm would shoot down any bill he
seemed to disagree with. Also they all reported to Wilhelm and could easily be fired for causing too
much trouble for them. With the German

Today it is in our best interest to encourage everyone s potential by dedicating ourselves to the
continual improvement of our own abilities and those of the people with whom we work and live.
Total Quality is, essentially, a win win approach which works to everyone s ultimate advantage.
According to Deming, no human being should ever evaluate another human being. Therefore, TQM
emphasizes self improvement process. In addition, this principle also laminates to the focusing on
students strengths, individual learning styles, and different types of intelligences. A System of
Ongoing Process The third pillar of TQM as applied in education is the recognition of the organization
as a system and the work done within the organization must be seen as an ongoing process. The
primary implication of this principle is that individual students and teachers are less to blame for
failure than the system in which they work. Quality speaks to working on the system, which must be
examined to identify and eliminate the flawed processes that allow its participants to fail. Since
systems are made in the quality of those processes largely determine the quality of the resulting
product. In the new paradigm of learning , continual improvement of learning outcomes replaces the
outdated teach and test mode. Leadership The fourth TQM principle applied to education is that the
success of TQM is the responsibility of top management. The school teachers must

Dictatorship In Lord Of The Flies And World War II
Fascism Flourishing Due to Fear Usually, a strong society is not a dictatorship. With dictatorships,
there is not a healthy balance of power. However, dictatorships can arise, and even flourish, in certain
circumstances. Dictatorships can arise from playing on popular fears, as exemplified both in Lord of
the Flies(LOTF) and in World War II. First, dictatorships can arise from popular fear when one person
tries to promise the people what they think they need and another tries to give them what they want.
This is shown through Hitler s rise to power ( Causes of World War II: Hitler s Actions ). Hitler
became powerful because he promised the German public something that the Weimar Republic and its
leaders couldn t: a chance to become powerful

Incentives of Charging Regulations to Cellphone Mobile Telephone Companies in the Philippines In
partial fulfillment of the requirements in SPECTO 3 Submitted by: Cameron Cabanlig on April 08,
2010 De La Salle University Manila I. INTRODUCTION In the Philippines, there are different
businesses, industries and companies that are mainly regulated by the government to at least make the
market fair for both the consumers and producers. For a market to function fairly and competitively,
incentives are implemented and handed out to the market components specifically by companies in
accordance to government regulations. Incentives give people the initiative to acquire the best possible

The companies that will be included in this paper are the main cellular mobile telephone companies
that play a major role in the market. Only top/major players of cellular phone companies such as
Smart, Globe and Sun telecoms will be included in this paper. The study however limits it to such
because a big percentage of subscribers are subscribed in these three large cellular phone companies.
And because of it, we can see the relation of producer and consumer and the effect of incentives
regulated by the government specifically the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on to
those companies. In these three top/major cellular phone companies we can see how economic
incentives play a major role on how these companies charge their subscribers. Cost of services paid by
subscriber on different bundles of services i.e. basic service/voice, text, minimum charge (either per
minute or pulse) are the major factors that these companies that charge consumers. In this study, we
will be focusing on the main usage of cellular phones which are the calls and short messaging service
(SMS) for local and international usage, prepaid and line subscribers. Through incentives, cost of
services subscribed by cellular phone users is minimized and at the same time the benefit of both the
consumer and the producer are maximized. II. CELLULAR PHONE COMPANIES AND ITS ROLE

Two decades ago, the answer of the following question of possibilities of cash disappeared as a

  • 2. Analysis Of I Have A Dream Speech Throughout history many issues have been fought for through public events like speeches. That being said, I have found, I Have a Dream by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to be the most compelling speech about how America fought for freedom but African Americans were still not free, but that they have the right to Freedom and Liberty. I personally thought the speech was good for three reasons. He had passion, good word choice that gave depth, and the reason for the speech was courageous and the issue needed to be fixed. For starters, MLK was a pastor from the south that felt African Americans were treated unfairly and it needed to change. His passion (pathos) for change brought him to be arrested multiple times and eventually assassinated for change in America. As we walk, we must make a pledge that we shall always march ahead. (King 12). This passion created thousands of followers that continued his dream. MLK uses allusion in I Have a Dream showing the the founding fathers for freedom and Liberty and he will do the same because of his passion to ensure everyone has equal rights. He said, This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the Unalienable Rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness (King 4) he had a dream of peaceful life that his passion for change would sculpt. Role of a Translation as a Mediator Incultural Transformation Translation means an intense form of cultural and social act of understanding a context and conveying it to another language and culture. Studying on language theories, culture and translation and the relationship between these factors are valuable issues dueto the growing importance of human communication in the world. The variety of languages with different culturesand necessity of communications in human life caused translation to be a very effective factor in communication, exchange of cultures, and knowledge. Some translators only deliver the word to word translation or the superficial meaning of the text. This leads to a loss of the text s core meaning. Semantic and the cultural difficulties of translation. Translators should know all the characteristics of the language. Language can be misused unintentionally. While using a particular expression, the intentions of the translator could be innocent, but the actual meaning of the expression in the targeted language could be offensive or sordid. There are rules and cultural differences to be considered in both languages. It is difficult to express exactly the same meaning in another language at times. There are sometimes no equivalents for certain words or expressions. Difficulties arising out of differences of cultures constitute the most serious problems for translators and this has produced the most far reaching misunderstanding among readers. Culture itself has its own limitation in transferring the source text into target text. He is a self made billionaire with an estimated net worth of $24.9 billion, which ranks him as the 15th wealthiest person in the U.S. and the 23rd wealthiest person in the world. Soros overcame major obstacles during his teenage years to become one of the most successful businessmen in the world, and he has been able to use his wealth to fight for causes he believes in and influence U.S. politics. Soros was born in Hungary to a middle class Jewish family in 1930. Because of the political climate at the time, his parents did what they could to hide their Jewish roots and even changed their family name from Schwartz to the native Hungarian name Soros. As a young teenager, he would survive the Nazi occupation of his country in the early 1940s, then in 1947, he would flee the Communist domination of his country with his family to England. • 5. History of Health Insurance Essay Healthcare didn t always exist in the United States. Before the 1920 s, most people didn t have health coverage. Most people were treated at home and hardly anyone, except a few large employers offered healthcare. Everyone else paid out of pocket. As the population shifted from rural areas to urban centers, families lived in smaller homes with less room to care for sick family members (Faulkner 1960, p. 509). Increasing requirements for licensing and accreditation, in addition to a rising demand for medical care, eventually led to rising costs. By the end of 1920s, there was an increased demand for medical care and the costs of medical care increased. During the time of the Great Depression and after, medical service plans grew. In the ... Some diseases are highly contagious and can be spread easily to family members, friends, colleagues, co workers and others, one may come in contact with. With health insurance, these contagious diseases can be contained and cured or treated more quickly and cost effectively. People without health insurance have limited, reduced access to services of preventive care, like cancer screening. Moreover, the benefits of expanding coverage outweigh the costs for added services. [4] Safety net care from hospitals and clinics improves access to care but does not fully substitute for health insurance. These findings are supported by much research, although some cautions are appropriate in using these results. People with health insurance are protected against uncertain and high medical expenses and are more likely to receive needed and appropriate health care. In addition, having health insurance is associated with improved health outcomes and lower mortality, so employees with health insurance are more likely to be productive workers. The one I would like to discuss is the Homestead Act of 1862. Shortly after the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was instated (moving many Native Americans off of western territories), many white individuals were hungry for more land. George Henry Evans, a labor leader in the House, felt he had a solution to the job deficit problem arising in the East. If he could provide these low income individuals with low cost or free land, it could help eliminate the issue. • 9. My Fair Lady By Eliza Doolittle Design elements are important because of the part that scenery, costuming, and lighting plays in the movement of the musical production. As Richard Kislan says, the ultimate objective of the designer of musicals must be to service the moving forms that characterize the musical theater. (Kislan 251). As a member of the audience I never recognize the movement of the scenery but enjoy each new set and costume. Without those important changes of movement the audience might lose interest or feel lost in a long musical. Musicals are full of costume changes that signify an important event in a character s plot. A good example is My Fair Lady, where Eliza Doolittle begins the musical with nothing more but rags and a small weary basket of flowers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paradise Lost And John Milton The 17 th century was a time when a great many issues that had arisen since the Reformation came to ahead: religion, politics, power and freedom were questioned as never before. John Milton was born in London in 1608 at the height oh the Protestant Reformation in England. His father had left Roman Catholicism and Milton was raised Protestand, with a heavy tendence toward Puritanism. Milton excelled in languages such as Latin, Greek, and Hebrew and in classical studies. For more than 20 years, Milton set aside poetry to write political and religious pamphlets for the cause of puritanism. For a time, he served as Secretary for Foreign Tongues under Cromwell. Milton was a mixed product of his time. On the one hand, as a humanist, he fought for religious tolerance and believed that there was something inherently valuable in man. As a puritan, however, he believed that the Bible was the answer and the guide to all. Where the Bible didn t afford an answer, milton would turn to reason. At the end of the war, milton was imprisoned for a short time for his views. In 1660, he emerged blind and disillusioned with the England he saw around him. Milton died of kidney failure in 1674 and was buried in the church of St. Giles in London. Paradise Lost is considered to be his master piece. It s a biblical epic poem. It will be the first time in which an author will mix the epic, which was related to man with religion, which was related to God. All the texts written before Milton dealt with ... This is due to the high taxes, fees and regulations that small businesses face if they want to operate in Rhode Island. All these factors in Rhode Island have impacted the high unemployment rate thus leading to the high state of poverty. Another factor that will lead one into poverty is the inability to afford health insurance. A journalist from the Providence Journal, Dujardin, mentioned that Rhode Island has an average of 18,000 children 17 years of age and younger who were without health coverage between 2007 and 2009, up from the 16,000 average recorded three years earlier (Richard C. For example, if one were to be in a car accident or become ill, not having the medical insurance, they will have to pay large amount of money out of their own pockets. Lastly, one of the biggest causes of poverty is lack of education. In the United States, everyone is entitled to a free and appropriated public education. The assigned points are used to create a fair compensation system and remain internally aligned. In Phase II of FastCat s compensation system, a dual focus on the base pay and providing incentives for their employees was recommended. It is ideal for FastCat to match the market to maintain their competitiveness. One of the most significant results of World War 1 was the formation of a lost generation. This term, first coined by author Gertrude Stein in conversation, refers to the young post World War 1 men who were emotionally damaged by the horrors experienced during combat and as a result aimlessly wandered through life with a depressed attitude toward the world ( The Lost Generation 1). Barnes use of alcohol began during the war, while trying to escape the stress of the unknown threats, and continued after the war s conclusion. By drinking, Barnes is able to forget his melancholy post war attitude towards the world. The dependence on alcohol is a side effect of the mental damage Barnes sustained from the war. Drinking is also how Barnes friend Campbell copes with his outlook on the world after the war. After discussing his fiancee, Brett, and her relationship with a bullfighter, Campbell, also a WW1 veteran, exclaims, I think I ll stay rather drunk. This is all awfully amusing, but it s not too pleasant. It s not too pleasant for me (Hemingway 205). In order to deal with the stress of having his fiancee in a relationship with a bullfighter, Campbell decides to drink. He prefers to remain in a state of intoxication because it keeps him from thinking about his relationship issues with Brett and his other problems with the world by giving him a sweet escape. Hemingway s use of the drinking motif, especially shown through Barnes and Campbell, demonstrates how the psychological and emotional damage of the war has caused the Lost Generation to become dependent on alcohol in order to cope with their depressed attitude toward the world. In addition to the drinking motif, Hemingway s writing style conveys the theme of negative views towards the world created from the emotional suffering of World War 1. Throughout ... Extended Essay Draft Group 1: Category 2 In what ways are love and avarice intertwined in both novels and to what extent does it effect the development of the main characters? By: Nikhil Kassum Table of Contents: Introduction (Page 3) Body Paragraphs (Page 4) Conclusion (Page 13) Introduction: At first glance, it is understandable to assume that Fyodor Dostoevsky s The Gambler and F.Scott Fitzgerald s The Beautiful and Damned are incomparable and unrelated in every way. However, when exploring in detail the character development in each novel, an alternate verdict can be presented that shows, beyond peradventure, that both novels share similarities. Granted, The Gambler is about a tutor working for a Russian family and his evolution into a pathological gambler, where as The Beautiful and Damned is concentrated on the relationship of a wealthy young couple in the Roaring 20 s who taste the bittersweet consequences of extravagance as the book traces their mental, moral and physical disintegration. Nevertheless, both novels explore depression as a concomitant of the amalgamation between love and avarice. Perhaps the most important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use of excessive force or even deadly force. • 30. Essay on Edgar Allan Poe s The Masque Of The Red Death Edgar Allan Poe was a writer who believed every single word contained meaning and in his own words expressed this idea in brevity only he is capable, there should be no word written, of which tendency, direct or indirect, is not to the one pre established design. (Poe 244). To this effect, Poe drenches his works in symbolism and allegory. Especially in shorter works, Poe assigns meaning to the smallest object, explicitly deriving exurbanite significance within concise descriptions. The Masque of the Red Death tells the story of a Prince Prospero who along with his one thousand friends sought a haven from the plague that was ravishing their country. They lived together in the prince s luxurious abbey with all the amenities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because inevitability of time and death seems to be the recurring theme, the most likely significance behind the number of apartments would be the seven stages of life. The first apartment is said to be placed most eastwardly and is blue in décor, which could signify the rising of the sun, the beginning of life, and the color of day. And the seventh, and most westerly apartment, is black with red accents and represents the end of life, the setting of the sun, and death. Poe did not intend a specific meaning for the number seven, just for the reader to be aware of the passing of time and the idea that the prince was trying to recreate a perfect world complete with all the appliances of pleasure Without was the Red Death. (238). The Prince s recreation of the world is ironic because it is modeled after the one the Prince and his followers are trying to escape. The seven perfect rooms foreshadow the evitable downfall of perfection. The number seven appears six times in the text which may lead to some significance behind that number as well. Six could represent human morality, the devil, spiritual imperfection. The masquerade takes place in the sixth month of isolation in the abbey; the sixth apartment is where the Prince finally confronts Red Death and eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Russell is widely considered to be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness, discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness, including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. He demonstrates the reasons why these are so effective in creating happiness in people and how these goals can be reached. • 32. Negative Effects Of Social Media On Children Negative Effects of Social Media and Children Technology has become very popular with children; more adults are minimizing the age in which they are supplying their children with technological devices such as smartphones. As parents, we feel by giving children such technology at an early age that we are essentially providing an advantage when in fact we are doing the opposite. Exposing your children to technology at such an early age and they have access to social media makes them prone to health issues, social issues, and most importantly dangers that could lead to death. Social media opens the doors to communication to people that a child probably would not speak to in real life. Predators can disguise themselves as children to chat, exchange pictures, and learn information about your child. Sometimes, the predators may even try to meet your child to hurt them or even learn their whereabouts to kidnap them. Different options on smartphones such as GPS gives your child s location making it easier for predators to find their prey. In real life, your children may not speak to strangers but on social media and the internet, they are probably more naïve and trustful. Social media also exposes your child to cyberbullying from classmates and sometimes people they do not even know. Many children have experienced some form of cyberbullying. According to Dr. Carolyn West from the University of Washington, Black girls are not seeing positive images of who they are and what they be. The story takes place after WWII and explains that Germany demolished London. There are two things that the story connects to the history of London; one is when Germany attacks London. The attack was known as The Blitz and shows how much damage Germany has caused London. Another connection is the movement of the Teddy Boys. The story took place after nine years when the war ended, and the Teddy Boys movement began around the 1950s. They were known as rebels and had a reputation for violence. As humans, we like to dwell in some place. When we went to the Fort Greene Park, we saw the fourfold that Martin Heidegger talks about in his article Building, Dwelling, thinking . These fourfold are earth, sky, morals, and divinities. First, we saw unity at this park between the green land, trees and buildings. This park includes part of high ground and a white building at the center of the park where the soldiers buried. Also, we saw birds fly from one tree to another. They took the park s trees dwelling for them. We could see the sky from everywhere at the park. It is horizontal and it gives us the feeling of freedom. Also, we saw people from different ages. In any case, it is more difficult for children to give free and meaningful assent when they did not truly understand the research concepts (2002, p.2). Moreover, the viability of the study depended on the creation of a situation that was ecologically valid in that it was provoking for children and required elements of deception (the other person being an actor and the game being rigged such that participants would not win) and some risk of emotional distress. Personally, I believe that the second graders might not have clearly understood their participation responsibilities and accountabilities, in spite of the definitions given to them in the research study and their capacity to understand to freely give and freely withdraw their assent before and during the research process. The researchers could have used peer tutoring to enhance understanding of the seemingly abstract research concepts to include risks, and effective meaning of voluntary ... Germany was unified by blood and iron in the Prussian wars before Germany was one nation. The Prussia war campaign against Denmark, Austria, and France led to the creation of the German Empire. After each victory against these countries the German Empire gained more and more territories and continuously expanded. The idea of nationalism was not only used to fuel these wars, but also afterwards in creating a limited government.
