Causes Of Haiti Earthquake
Despite the fact that the 2010 Haiti Earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0, it caused 316000 deaths,
destroyed over 105000 buildings and left the whole country in rubble. Human contribution contributed
greatly to the casualties and the severity of the earthquake.
A social factor that influenced the severity of the earthquake was where people chose to live. Haiti is
located on fault lines, where the epicentre of the earthquake is and where the earthquake is most
severe. The earthquake s epicentre was estimated to be around a mere 25 km away from the Port au
prince, the capital of Haiti and home to ¼ of the population. The closer the area was to the epicentre,
the more intense the earthquake was and the greater the destruction. The area was also urbanised with
many buildings, due to the great number of people who resided there which meant that many buildings
were destroyed and many people were killed.
Poverty was an economic factor that greatly influenced how the earthquake affected the population. In
Haiti, 80% of the population was under the poverty line. ⅔ of Labor force employees relied on
agriculture and due to high unemployment levels, many did not have a job and the population owned
an average of under $2 a day. During the earthquake, Haiti s agricultural industries were destroyed,
leaving most of the county unemployed and unable to produce its main exports. This further
exacerbated the problem of poverty and left the population without resources, food and water.

A Solution To the Foreclosure Crisis Essay
The foreclosure crisis has reached new heights since the all time high deficit in the economy. U.S.
foreclosure rates went up more than 81% and 861,664 families lost their homes to foreclosure in 2008
(Les Christie). Also, 54 households received a foreclosure notice last year (Les Christie). So what is
the solution?
Bold action is needed to address this serious issue. I suggest a real estate pause for a temporary
amount of time, similar to what Roosevelt did with the bank holiday during the Great Depression. The
root of the foreclosure problem is that people who should be living in homes valued at $200,000 or
lower are living in over $500,000 homes with house poor mortgages. Many Americans like to live
above their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New homeowners should even be required to look at foreclosure properties when looking into buying
a new home. The new home buyers need to be looking into the foreclosure properties so that these
properties can be released from the bank s control and the banks can do their jobs. All of these
changes need to be implemented by the federal government because it will cause changes to make a
bigger impact and lower the foreclosures at a faster rate. I understand that completely shutting down
the real estate market all over the nation would be difficult and a little unrealistic because of its size
but somehow there needs to be a pause button so that the houses can try and get back their original
values.
The steps that need to be taken to achieve a real estate pause can be a shorter process than one might
imagine. The federal government would have to declare the real estate pause and close down the
interactions between real estate and the banks. I do not think that it has to be long; Roosevelt s bank
holiday lasted only 6 days. It needs to be long enough for the American people to relax and start to
trust the system again and short enough that they do not start to get uneasy about it. I would suggest a
week. The idea is to slow down the market a little bit so that it can regulate out again and start getting
back to normal to avoid future

Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands Essay
Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands
Professor s comment: Jane wrote this research paper for my Advanced Composition course. The
assignment asks the students to read and understand six to ten articles within a research area of their
choice, then synthesize the information so that a reader can quickly understand the present state of
research in that area. Jane chose to look at how increased flooding and salinity might affect coastal
wetland soils and species, and she organized the material clearly and effectively. What I liked
particularly about this review was that it moved logically from the effects of flooding and salinity on
wetland soils to the effects on the plants growing there to the overall effects on the wetland, both ...

Additionally, Ehhas been shown to decrease even further when soils are flooded with increased
salinity levels (Baldwin and Mendelssohn, 1998; Flynn et al., 1995). Under these conditions, the soil
medium becomes highly reducing and can affect wetland vegetation in two ways. First, and probably
most significant, is the reduction of sulfate (present in seawater) to hydrogen sulfide, a known
phytotoxin that has been shown to reduce wetland vegetation growth and/or survival at higher
concentrations (Flynn et al., 1995). Secondly, highly reducing conditions can interfere with a plant s
ability to uptake nitrogen by altering its form and availability in the soil (Webb et al., 1995).
Other problems created by high salinity soil conditions include the change in water potential necessary
for the plant to overcome the elevated salt concentration in the soil, and the possibility of toxicity due
to uptake of Na+ and Cl ions (Flynn et al., 1995).
Physiological Responses of Wetland Plants due to Increased Flooding and Salinity
Although tolerance to increased flooding and salinity conditions varies somewhat by species, wetland
species that survive these heightened conditions demonstrate either some or all of the following
characteristics: lowered photosynthetic activity,

Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an animal in the
story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like a force of nature, a condition of
the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The Flies, there are many symbols that signify the
beginning or end of something new in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water
current flowing backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story. The
island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite and endless nature of life
that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also, strength, tranquility, and stability. The island
and the ocean symbolize both a paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The island can
symbolize a Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin anew. In the
beginning of the book, Jack says, we are going to have fun on this island (Golding 104). The boys
really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least Jack did. However, much like the biblical
Garden of Eden, paradise can be suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. The advent of the
boys pollutes the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual temptation of Eve
and loss and innocence ( Lauryn Galloway ). The pristine paradise is set on fire by the boys and
everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship saw the smoke. The ocean can
symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life but it also symbolizes becoming astray and then
finding one s way through life. The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys from all they once
knew about the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the ocean symbolizes all
good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes the good bygone and Jack
becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the ocean aren t the only symbols in the book. The
water current flowing backwards, that deceives many into thinking it is just a detail, actually
symbolizes more. The water current flowing backwards can symbolize many things. It could be giving
the subtle impression that civilization may be

Women in Movies Essay
Women in Movies Since the 1940 s, movies have predominately portrayed women as sex symbols.
Beginning in the 1940 s and continuing though the 1980 s, women did not have major roles in movies.
When they did have a leading role the women was either pretreated as unintelligent and beautiful, or
as conniving and beautiful: But she was always beautiful. Before the 1990 s, men alone, wrote and
directed all the movies, and the movies were written for men. In comparison, movies of the 90 s are
not only written and directed by women, but leading roles are also held by older and unattractive
women. In this paper I will show the variations and growth of women s roles in movies from the 1940
s though the 1990 s.

They went through a lot to get their men, but in the end of the movie they have a double wedding and
get what they have always wanted, big diamonds. The movie Father of the Bride, portrays women to
be homemakers. They are suppose to stay at home, watch over the family, and be there to great their
husbands at the door when they get home from work. The movie tells the story of Kay Banks, a girl
who has graduated from highschool and is now waiting to find a husband. She is a daddy s girl who
gets everything she wants. Even though her father is against a big church wedding he gives in and Kay
and her new husband have a beautiful wedding and everyone lives happily ever after. In the 1950 s
women were expected to be beautiful and be good wives. In the 1960 s women were portrayed in
movies to be torn between having good morals and wanting to have sex. In the Splendor in the Grass,
Dinny is a highschools girl in love with a boy named Bud. Dinny is a nice young girl but she feels
very strongly about Bud and she is confused about her feelings. she wants to have sex with him but
she knows it is mot the right thing to do. When she decides to have sex with Bud he does not want to

Pros And Cons Of Space Race
Do We Need Another Space Race? The possibility of a second space race has grown stronger than
ever recently. After the launch of the most affordable and the second most powerful rocket of all time,
the Falcon Heavy by SpaceX, the subject has been given new life. Following the successful launch,
Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, stated that he wants to start a second space race. Already, his wish
has started coming true. After only a week after the first launch, many other companies have already
stated their own plans for rocket launches and development. However, throughout all the excitement
and speculations, people are forgetting to ask an important question: do we even need another space
race? The original space race took place from the estimated years of 1957 all the way through 1975,
starting with the launch of the first man made satellite, the Sputnik I, and ending with the Apollo
Soyuz mission, which contained a Soviet cosmonaut and an American astronaut shaking hands in
outer space, closing off the space race with a rather symbolic ending. During the space race, the
United States and the Soviet Union, who were the strongest nations in the world at the time, both
competed to make the most scientific and technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few downsides scattered around that are either entirely unavoidable or just simply need to
be worked out. The biggest problem that would most likely form is the increased amount of pollution
that would result from a higher launch rate for rockets and other space fairing vehicles. The Falcon
Heavy rocket used around 970,034 pounds of fuel during the test flight from February of 2018.
SpaceX also plans on launching another rocket every two weeks sometime in the future, which would
unfortunately cause major environmental damage unless a new, less damaging fuel type or more
efficient propulsion method could be developed, or if SpaceX would change their plans to be a little

Are the Values of Liberalism Universal Essay
This is an immensely complex questions which deserves much more time and space than can be
devoted in this essay. However I will endeavor to apply the theories of a number of authors to the
problem and arrive at a reasonable conclusion based upon my analysis of them.
Throughout the course of the essay I will make reference to a number of authors, writing on subjects
of Ethics, Philosophy and Feminism, with the intention of attempting to divine the validity to the
claim of liberalism s universality. To start of with there will be an examination of the theory of
liberalism itself, with particular focus upon the notion of individuality and its conception of rights in
accordance with it. Using the work of George Beiswanger and Bhikhu Parekh I ... Show more content

It is but one theory among a seas of others. Its enforcement is a point of much debate among
contemporary scholars and policy makers. This is however how the current generation of liberals seem
to view their mission. Not least the Neo liberals of the United States. Effectively typified by George
W. Bush. Throughout the course of this essay I hope to challenge these viewpoints and perhaps see
them change when faced with the arguments against them.
To begin, lets looks at the conception of individualism in liberalism. A central part of the theory of
liberalism is the acceptance of the theory of individualism. This is not however present in a number of
varying culture and represent a unique quality that is possessed by liberalism. In the debate among
liberals a large part of the discussions on individuals if the definition of rights. Often there is a
comparison between the right and the good . There are different conceptions of the meaning of the
words right and good . While adhering to the principle of individuality it is possible for each persons
notion of the good to be different. Individuals can thus be affected adversely by what another
individual considers to be good. An individual can be wronged quite adequately in the name of right
and to the applause of moral men. (George Beiswanger, p. 114, 1950) So using this adversity, how is it
possible for liberal governments to ensure that the good has been maximised

Why Is Santa Clause Wrong
Santa Claus is an imaginary being, based off of the story of Saint Nicholas. Often we teach children
myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can understand, or
sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child s baby but both we and the child
know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old man
drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong.
Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child parent relation that some lies are OK, or even good ,
and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be
communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children to
show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents ourselves?
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We show our love to others through presents, an age old tradition stemming from the gift giving magi,
and jolly old saint Nick. Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the year, but
Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that we know they
will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we use Santa Claus
as a middleman, how is this teaching children the gift of giving ? Or that we take time to think of
them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling attached to the
present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. If christmas is about love, family and
friendship, why do we use an imaginary stranger as an

The term Lisfranc refers to the tarso metatarsal articulation. These injuries may include sprains,
fractures, and/or dislocations. The term was coined from the name of the French field surgeon Jacques
Lisfranc, who first discovered the amputation technique through this joint. Lisfranc injuries are rare
(0.2% of all fractures) and commonly missed. Approximately 20% of all Lisfranc injuries remain
undiagnosed. Although there is low incidence and prevalence, overlooked Lisfranc injury is cited as
one of the most common reasons for malpractice lawsuits against radiologists and emergency
medicine physicians. These injuries occur in an area whose bony anatomy is not clearly visualized.

The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims
Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with Muslim
immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants face hostility
in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with
xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is
necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue
technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight
over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future
immigration to Europe (Glazer, 2010).
In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While
American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant
workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer,
2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment,
school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010).
Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that
the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the populace
s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national identity which

My Love Of Hip Hop Dance
One of my primary interests has always been music. When music comes to my ears all I want to do is
dance. Hip hop comes in a form of art where you can express yourself with no limitations and no
rules. Having the ability to break free of the real world and to just indulge in that exact moment is
breathtaking. There is really more too hip hop dancing than people actually know. Dancing in general
has to do with a culture and it brings people together in more ways than one. I personally come from a
family where dancing is just a usual thing. My sister however, danced her whole life and even became
so serious that she competed at the highest level in South Africa. I was more into physical fitness, but I
still loved music and the hip hop scene. The older I got, the more inquisitive I became and that s when
my love for the hip hop culture expanded.
First of all, like any physical activity you need to warm up. Many people think that dancing is easy or
you won t get injured because there is no form of contact but they are seriously mistaken. To start off,
you need to choose your music. Choosing music that you are familiar with or that makes your feet
want to move on their own will be very beneficial. I always challenge myself by playing music from
other cultures to make up my own moves. It is very important to feel the beat in the song, so if you

Persuasive Essay On Reaching Goals In Life
Just Keep Climbing Imagine being over eight thousand meters above sea level, blind with altitude
sickness, dizzy from lack of oxygen, and still having to muster the strength to push through blankets
of snow at a nearly sixty degree incline. Reaching goals in life sometimes feels like one uphill climb
after another. The most important thing to remember is to keep a positive mindset during the entire
journey. Nothing is too great to accomplish because If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you
can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for
you (New International Version, Matt. 17.20). This sets out the true analogy between reaching the
summit of a mountain and making a dream into a reality. I aspire to achieve pure felicity in everyday
moving forward. I will attain this goal by living boundlessly, building candid relationships, and
attending Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. To live without limitations and
confinement is to live boundlessly. One must have intrepidity through every good and bad day that
comes along to exemplify this. Everyday that one receives on this earth is another chance to broaden
horizons. Time is precious just like the Word of God is to one who may be going through strife. I am
going to spend my free time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the Ocoee River in
Tennessee, and the Talladega National Forest in Alabama because I don t want to

What Are The Similarities Between The Han And Roman Empire
Thesis Statement
This is about Han and Roman Empire. This argument is saying that the Romans were more powerful
than the Han Empire based on its military system. This will be coming from the Han s prospective
from 206 B.C to 220 B.C. Also talking from the Roman Empire s point of view from14 C.E to 330
C.E. There will be similarities in this paper but mostly differences because these are two totally
different cultures. The reason for picking the Romans is because the Han s constantly deployed
soldiers year round, even getting soldiers that we not Chinese that lived on the border. Having the
advantage of speed and size the Han s had the advantage of taking over all of China. The ability of
having these advantages of speed and size gives the Han military of taking over the feudal power
structure of other Chinese states.2 But the Roman empire their cavalry would be arranged in columns
which will cover more space. The general will also assign his lightened armed troops which were
javelin throwers, bowman, and slingers in the front. If not placed in the front the lightened armed
troops would actually do more damage to the phalanx than the enemy. The heavy armed troops would
be in the back having the ability to shoot and aim high in the air and being able to hit the enemy and

Kota Fibres is a single nylon manufacturing plant in Kota India managed and owed by Ms. Pundir.
The company produces synthetic fiber yarns that are used to make colorful cloth used in creating saris.
The need for saris is very seasonal and as such the demand for synthetic fibers mirrors this seasonality.
Because of these peak seasons, the need for various financial structures throughout the year is present.

Finally yarn manufacturers supply credit to their textile mills. It is important to note that the yarn
manufacturers like Kota Fibres do not receive any credit from their suppliers. It is within this
hierarchy structure that Kota Fibres operates and as a result Kota Fibres should remain mindful of the
industry as a whole because they rely heavily on the downstream activities.
The memo from the transportation manager provides a more positive outlook on Kota Fibres future
operations. The memo details that the new road has drastically improved supply shipments. This
thereby reduces the raw inventory requirement from 60 days to just 30. This decreases the amount of
inventory costs and increases the amount of cash on hand that the firm will have.

their product. In addition to the cash shortages, Kota Fibres is not paying creditors on time or in the
correct amounts this is creating a huge financial strain on the organization and this issue needs to be

Ms. Pundir is currently paying high dividends to the companies stakeholders; this is a huge concern to
the company s overall profitability. Currently more emphasis is being placed on the payment of
dividends than the payment to creditors.
Currently the organization has uneven levels of production. This creates uneven demand for labour
and as a result layoffs

They ordered the strikers to leave and someone threw a bomb. A policeman was killed, and six more

Federation of Labor started by Samuel Gompers. Gompers decided (rightly) that the best strategy for
labor was to avoid any connection with radical socialist/anarchist movements, and to make it clear that
all workers were after were better wages and working conditions. In 1892, the AFL led a strike at
Carnegie Steel s Homestead facility near Pittsburg. The manager of the facility, Henry Clay wanted to
break the local union so when union leaders tried to negotiate for a better contract, Frick decided
instead to give them a worse contract with lower wages. This led to a strike. In 1894, the Chicago
based Pullman Company laid 1/3 of its work force and cut wages by 40% for the remaining workers.
At the same time, they kept up the prices in the company stores and the rent for company housing.
Naturally enough, the workers went on strike. Eugene Debs, head of the American Railway Workers
Union, did what he could to help. His union launched a boycott of all Pullman made cars, refusing to
operate a train with Pullman cars until the Pullman company reached an agreement with striking
workers. The railroads responding by firing the boycotters, and this led to a walk out by all railroad
workers. The trains in Chicago came to a halt. Hoodlums (not

Billy Collins Research Paper

Billy Collins Billy Collins is among the most well known and important poets in Untied States
literature. His use of plain language, humor, fascination with the ordinary, and his clear
acknowledgment of the mundane are just some of the attributes that make his work instantly
recognizable. Collins ability to write poetry was evident at an early age. He wrote his first poem at the
age of 12 and went on to join the literary magazine of his high school (Cunningham). Collins has
earned numerous literary degrees including a Bachelor in Arts from College of the Holy Cross in
Worcester, Massachusetts, and a doctorate in Romantic poetry from the University of California,
Riverside, in 1971. Collins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general consensus across the realm of literary critics is typically positive towards his work.
Literary critic Dwight Garner describes Collins work as being great and easily relatable to every day
life. This is mainly because Collins uses humor to cope with the pain and chaos of life. Garner also
mentions that his poems are clean, suburban, antiseptic and compares him to Walter Mitty and Jerry
Seinfeld (Garner). Frank Pool, another literary critic, looks favorably upon the work of Collins and
describes him as being the first genuinely popular American poet since Robert Frost. Another pro of
his writings as described by Pool is that he combines the mundane with the mysterious (Pool); two
qualities not often found used in conjunction with one another. At the beginning of his writing career,
Collins work was slow to be widely accepted as being significant in the literary world. It wasn t until
the he became the poet laureate at the beginning of the millennia that he and his contributions gained
the wide recognition they deserved. Throughout his entire collection of works, he has held a constant
number of constants; an example being the extensively mundane nature of such. This theme has been
regarded essentially the same throughout his professional writing career by literary critics with little to

The Tragedy Of The Iranian Hostage Crisis
There was once time of prosperity and hope in this great nation. A time where it seemed that nothing
could go wrong and a time that America seemed to be on top of the world as a powerhouse; however,
by the late 1970 s, that time was no more. America went from an economic powerhouse to a country
struggling to survive. America went from the land of the free and the home of the brave to citizens
having no identity of patriotism following the Vietnam War. America went from doing the attacking
and righting the wrong in the world, to being harassed and taken advantage of. This harassment is told
through David Farber s novel, Taken Hostage, which details the hostage takeover that involved sixty
six American citizens who had to endure 444 agonizing days of being taken hostage because America
was no longer in control. During the time of the Iranian hostage crisis, Americans were held back by
the tragedy for numerous reasons, many of which stem from the immediate reaction of combined
shock and frustration towards the United States Government and President Carter, a lack of
knowledge of the ongoing strained relationship between the two countries, and finally, the surprising
tension and ineffectiveness of the Carter Administration s foreign policy.
In the months leading up to the hostage crisis, the morale and patriotism expressed by the American
people was gloom and not promising for the nation; Especially in the last years of the decade, it was
mainly just hard times (Farber, 10).

Kubrick s Use Of Satire In Dr. Strangelove
In 1964 with the cold war and Cuban missile crisis still fresh in the minds of many, Stanley Kubrick
masterpiece Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb focuses on the
terrifying newer technology of the hydrogen bomb and the fear that comes in congruence with having
such powerful weaponry. This comes with an oddly comedic twist. Kubrick dared to make a movie
about what would happen if the wrong person presses the wrong button. The dark satire throughout
the movie is kept fresh with a large array of superb comedy acts throughout. It all begins with Group
Captain Lionel Mandrake (Peter Sellers) being called and ordered to put the base of Burpelson Air

orders for the bombing of Russia and informs his planes commanded by T.J. King Kong (Slim

many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral
music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers. Mozart showed prodigious
ability from his earliest childhood in Salzburg. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he

acquainted himself with the works of other composers. A particularly important influence was Johann
Christian Bach, whom Mozart visited in London in 1764 and 1765. The family again went to Vienna
in late 1767 and remained there until December 1768. These trips were often arduous. Travel
conditions were primitive;[10] the family had to wait for invitations and reimbursement from the

1764)[12] then both children (The Hague, autumn 1765).[13] After one year in Salzburg, father and
son set off for Italy, leaving Wolfgang s mother and his sister at home. This travel lasted from
December 1769 to March 1771. As with earlier journeys, Leopold wanted to display his son s abilities

The Day I Lost My Innocence
The day I lost my innocence was the day my life was forever changed. For the past couple of days we
have been hearing about the civil wars in the different Liberian counties. I can hear the fear in my dad
s voice as he tells me of the horrible things the rebels are doing. They are killing all of the people that
do not support or believe in what they are doing. I am from one of the richest countries in the world,
blessed with many natural resources. This small West African country called Liberia, is one of the
world s largest exporters of rubber, diamonds, and gold. But this beautiful country will never hold the
esteemed place that it once held. War has torn this beautiful land a part. I hate wars, I hate everything
about them. If I had the power and the chance to do great things in this world, I would do everything
in my power to stop people from fighting war; so that people don t have to die. But interestingly, my
view on wars was not always this way. At one point in my life, the idea of war was exciting to me,
mostly because it was always glorified. From what I saw on television, war movies were depicted with
beautiful story lines that made me want to take part in that exhilarating experience. But this view was
suddenly changed when I was forced to take a man s life. My troubles all started just one month ago
when the rebels finally took over the capital city of Liberia, called Monrovia. I awoke to barrels of
gun fire, everything I knew and loved to do was takin from

Bushcraft Vs Survival Research Paper
THE INTRODUCTION
In many blogs and Youtube videos that I ve seen, there are countless of discussions about bushcraft vs
survival (craft), what do they mean and what are the differences between them? It s true that there are
undeniable similarities about them because they tend to involve the wilderness and the outdoors,
shelter, fire, water, etc. However, in fact the two things are quite different. In this post I d like to
briefly talk about what each one is, how they differ from each other and why it s important to
understand the differences. Keep in mind that these are my opinions and you may or may not agree, it
s all good.
DIFFERENT IN DEFINITIONS
First of all, I want to mention the basic meaning of those two things so that we can see the differences
in theory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mean while Bushcraft is defined as:
Skill in anything pertaining in bush country.
Ability and experience in matters concerns with living in the bush.
I tend to break it down like this:
A survival situation is any kind of events (usually short term, about 72 hours or less, though some can
go much longer) that required you to take action to save your life or other s life. The main goal here is
not only just survival but to return home, either through rescue and search team or your own
navigational ability.
Bushcraft is completely different, where it implies a long term strategy and unnecessarily an
unexpected circumstance or an instant danger to life. People into bushcraft often go into wilderness
intentionally with minimal amount of gears to test their abilities and horn their skills, not to survive
but to exist and thrive in the nature.
So basically in survival (craft), you stuck in the wilderness and try to find your way back to
civilization while in bushcraft, you use your refined skills to make comfort out of the situation. It is
perhaps in the mindset of the person who do the

Nuclear Reactor Outline
What is a Nuclear Reactor?
A nuclear reactor is a device that maintains the chain reaction of nuclear fission.
A nuclear reactor s main purpose is to generate heat that can be converted electricity for cities to use.
A nuclear reactor converts heat to electricity in a nuclear power plant.
How do Nuclear reactors work?
Nuclear reactors generate heat by maintaining the chain reaction of nuclear fission.
Nuclear fission in produced by Fissioning the only nuclear fuel at the moment is Uranium 235.
The heat created by the fission from the energy released in the reaction is used to heat coolant that
turns water to steam that turns steam turbines to generate the electricity.

The Moderator is used to slow down the fast neutrons being released in the fission reaction. The
fission of Uranium 235 can only be achieved by slow moving neutrons but after the reaction it releases
3 fast neutrons. So the moderator slows down the neutrons so that they can start another fission
reaction and continue the chain reaction.
The control rods are used to control the reaction, since 3 neutrons are released with each reaction from
1 initial neutron the reaction would very quickly increase causing a meltdown if the neutrons aren t
controlled. The control rods are inserted automatically by computers to modulate the heat of the
reactor core. The rods are made of neutron absorbing materials such as graphite, cadmium, hafnium or
boron. They have enough control rods in the core so that an out of control reaction can be stopped by
inserting all the control rods into the

The Progression Of Abstract Algebra
Math 559
IDEALS IN RINGS by Naira Arakelyan
1. Introduction
The progression of abstract algebra has come to be due to problems which were deemed to be
unsolvable through classical methods, as well as discoveries from past mathematicians. Firstly, these
problems had been associated with the theory of algebraic equations by the closing of the 19th
century. Significant topics of abstract algebra would consist of Diophantine equations, as well as
arithmetical investigations of higher and quadratic degree forms which had contributed to the concept
of notions of a ring and ideal. It is important to know that a ring is generally the setting in which
integer arithmetic is generalized, hence it being a stepping stone for the advancement of commutative
ring theory. It is also important to know that ring theory can be used to comprehend the fundamental
laws of physics, including basic special relativity as well as symmetry phenomena in molecular
chemistry. The attempts created to solve Fermat s Last Theorem also advanced the path for
generalizing integer arithmetic, and developed the concept of a ring. In Fermat s Last Theorem, it is
stated:
The equation xn+ yn= zn has no solution for positive integers, x, y, z when n 2.
Fermat wrote I have discovered a truly remarkable proof which this margin is too small to contain.
(Diophantus s Arithmetica)
One attempt to prove Fermat s Last Theorem had been in the year 1753, when Euler had brought
forward a novel set of integers which

but is that really the case though? Many of the people are making decisions that the society thinks is
better rather than what they think without even noticing. In the essay This is Life written by Annie
Dillard, an author who best known for her works of poetry, essays, prose, and literary criticism argues,
the general public nowadays takes their life for granted and don t realize how blessed they are to enjoy
such a facile life comparable to millions that are not as fortunate. Ultimately, Dillard thinks that

The Effect Of Violent Video Games On Children
The Effect of Violent Video Games on Children
Since the rise of video games in the last decade younger kids are spending a lot of their time on
games. One problem with children having access to video games is the bloody and gory violence some
games contain. With children growing up playing these violent games it raises a question that most
parents wonder, do violent video games make children more aggressive towards others? There are
results from studies and incidents in real life that prove violence in video games does influence certain
children. Violent video games do increase aggression in children who are already aggressive in nature
but do not have a negative effect on most children.
Studies have been conducted to test whether or not violent video games increase aggression in
children. The first study was conducted by Jia Kun Zhang from Shanghai University of Sport and
Qian Zhang from Southwest University. The purpose of this study was to investigate how aggression
resulting from video games varies by gender and the child´s trait aggressiveness level. Two tests were
conducted: the first being a test of two hundred and twenty children to see what games the children
found violent. The second test was to see whether another set of two hundred and forty children
showed more aggression after playing the violent game. Overall the results indicated that gender and
trait aggressiveness affect aggression in children who play violent video games. ...children with high

Concept Of Market Failure And Its Aspects On Allocation,...
The goal of this essay is to introduce the concept of market failure and what might happen if
government intervention is prosecuted. Also this essay will acknowledge the different aspects of one
of the major topics in economics the scarce of resources and it s aspects: allocation, production, and
distribution. Furthermore in this writing academic literature and articles would be used in order to
defend the outcome of the discussion about government intervention in the market.
Economics are a complex matter which alters in time. Economics can be also defined as the science
which studies human behavoir as a relation between ends and scarce means which have alternative
uses (L.Robbins,1935,p.495) In other words economics are a study of how to allocate, product, and
distribute goods among the people. Economics as any other science faces problems which need to be
viewed in depth in order to be resolved. Some of the main issues faced are the scarce of resources and
when is the government intervention required.
The issue of government interference in the economy is considered more than two centuries. One of
the main reasons for intervention are market failures, with manifest limitations of the market
mechanism, leading to inefficiency in allocation, production and distribution of resources.
In order to understand how the market failure accumulates and is government intervention the best
choice to deal with market crisis, specific attention should be given to the scarcity of

An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer
Cold as Heaven Judith Ortiz Cofer s poem Cold as Heaven is a very sweet interaction between a
granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the poem,
I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother never
experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced heaven and she
is curious. In lines 25 30: When her eyes return to me, I can see she s waiting to hear more about the
purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can make yourself an angel by just
lying down and waving your arms (Cofer). These lines describe winter as a place where angels are
made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a feeling of purification. This symbolizes
that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you.
The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death.
Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was saying, so
that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in lines 6 7: the
Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock (Cofer). The author is comparing two unlike
things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection. The Caribbean sun is
what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile adds to the poem s
meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is warmth in her home in the
Caribbean.
There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what the
author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives in the
Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks through the
eyes of the granddaughter s comparison to winter. As I read through the poem several time, I looked
for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1 2: Before there is a breeze again before the
cooling days of Lent, she may be gone (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian belief that when you die
you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma

share of all of mutual funds assets. Net asset value per unit (NAVPU) is used to process the price for
the individual unit of the mutual fund. Net asset value will change is due to the fluctuation (rise or
fall) in the market value of the asset held by the funds.
Mutual funds are under securities regulations. The Mutual Fund Dealers Associations of Canada is
national self regulatory organization in the Canadian mutual fund industry. The MFDA regulates and
oversights the business conducts of its members, and their representatives to protect the investors and

  • 2. Causes Of Haiti Earthquake Despite the fact that the 2010 Haiti Earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0, it caused 316000 deaths, destroyed over 105000 buildings and left the whole country in rubble. Human contribution contributed greatly to the casualties and the severity of the earthquake. A social factor that influenced the severity of the earthquake was where people chose to live. Haiti is located on fault lines, where the epicentre of the earthquake is and where the earthquake is most severe. The earthquake s epicentre was estimated to be around a mere 25 km away from the Port au prince, the capital of Haiti and home to ¼ of the population. The closer the area was to the epicentre, the more intense the earthquake was and the greater the destruction. The area was also urbanised with many buildings, due to the great number of people who resided there which meant that many buildings were destroyed and many people were killed. Poverty was an economic factor that greatly influenced how the earthquake affected the population. In Haiti, 80% of the population was under the poverty line. ⅔ of Labor force employees relied on agriculture and due to high unemployment levels, many did not have a job and the population owned an average of under $2 a day. During the earthquake, Haiti s agricultural industries were destroyed, leaving most of the county unemployed and unable to produce its main exports. This further exacerbated the problem of poverty and left the population without resources, food and water. Lack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Solution To the Foreclosure Crisis Essay The foreclosure crisis has reached new heights since the all time high deficit in the economy. U.S. foreclosure rates went up more than 81% and 861,664 families lost their homes to foreclosure in 2008 (Les Christie). Also, 54 households received a foreclosure notice last year (Les Christie). So what is the solution? Bold action is needed to address this serious issue. I suggest a real estate pause for a temporary amount of time, similar to what Roosevelt did with the bank holiday during the Great Depression. The root of the foreclosure problem is that people who should be living in homes valued at $200,000 or lower are living in over $500,000 homes with house poor mortgages. Many Americans like to live above their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New homeowners should even be required to look at foreclosure properties when looking into buying a new home. The new home buyers need to be looking into the foreclosure properties so that these properties can be released from the bank s control and the banks can do their jobs. All of these changes need to be implemented by the federal government because it will cause changes to make a bigger impact and lower the foreclosures at a faster rate. I understand that completely shutting down the real estate market all over the nation would be difficult and a little unrealistic because of its size but somehow there needs to be a pause button so that the houses can try and get back their original values. The steps that need to be taken to achieve a real estate pause can be a shorter process than one might imagine. The federal government would have to declare the real estate pause and close down the interactions between real estate and the banks. I do not think that it has to be long; Roosevelt s bank holiday lasted only 6 days. It needs to be long enough for the American people to relax and start to trust the system again and short enough that they do not start to get uneasy about it. I would suggest a week. The idea is to slow down the market a little bit so that it can regulate out again and start getting back to normal to avoid future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands Essay Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands Professor s comment: Jane wrote this research paper for my Advanced Composition course. The assignment asks the students to read and understand six to ten articles within a research area of their choice, then synthesize the information so that a reader can quickly understand the present state of research in that area. Jane chose to look at how increased flooding and salinity might affect coastal wetland soils and species, and she organized the material clearly and effectively. What I liked particularly about this review was that it moved logically from the effects of flooding and salinity on wetland soils to the effects on the plants growing there to the overall effects on the wetland, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, Ehhas been shown to decrease even further when soils are flooded with increased salinity levels (Baldwin and Mendelssohn, 1998; Flynn et al., 1995). Under these conditions, the soil medium becomes highly reducing and can affect wetland vegetation in two ways. First, and probably most significant, is the reduction of sulfate (present in seawater) to hydrogen sulfide, a known phytotoxin that has been shown to reduce wetland vegetation growth and/or survival at higher concentrations (Flynn et al., 1995). Secondly, highly reducing conditions can interfere with a plant s ability to uptake nitrogen by altering its form and availability in the soil (Webb et al., 1995). Other problems created by high salinity soil conditions include the change in water potential necessary for the plant to overcome the elevated salt concentration in the soil, and the possibility of toxicity due to uptake of Na+ and Cl ions (Flynn et al., 1995). Physiological Responses of Wetland Plants due to Increased Flooding and Salinity Although tolerance to increased flooding and salinity conditions varies somewhat by species, wetland species that survive these heightened conditions demonstrate either some or all of the following characteristics: lowered photosynthetic activity, ... • 5. Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an animal in the story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like a force of nature, a condition of the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The Flies, there are many symbols that signify the beginning or end of something new in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water current flowing backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story. The island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite and endless nature of life that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also, strength, tranquility, and stability. The island and the ocean symbolize both a paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The island can symbolize a Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin anew. In the beginning of the book, Jack says, we are going to have fun on this island (Golding 104). The boys really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least Jack did. However, much like the biblical Garden of Eden, paradise can be suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. The advent of the boys pollutes the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual temptation of Eve and loss and innocence ( Lauryn Galloway ). The pristine paradise is set on fire by the boys and everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship saw the smoke. The ocean can symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life but it also symbolizes becoming astray and then finding one s way through life. The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys from all they once knew about the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the ocean symbolizes all good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes the good bygone and Jack becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the ocean aren t the only symbols in the book. The water current flowing backwards, that deceives many into thinking it is just a detail, actually symbolizes more. The water current flowing backwards can symbolize many things. It could be giving the subtle impression that civilization may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Women in Movies Essay Women in Movies Since the 1940 s, movies have predominately portrayed women as sex symbols. Beginning in the 1940 s and continuing though the 1980 s, women did not have major roles in movies. When they did have a leading role the women was either pretreated as unintelligent and beautiful, or as conniving and beautiful: But she was always beautiful. Before the 1990 s, men alone, wrote and directed all the movies, and the movies were written for men. In comparison, movies of the 90 s are not only written and directed by women, but leading roles are also held by older and unattractive women. In this paper I will show the variations and growth of women s roles in movies from the 1940 s though the 1990 s. In the 1940 s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They went through a lot to get their men, but in the end of the movie they have a double wedding and get what they have always wanted, big diamonds. The movie Father of the Bride, portrays women to be homemakers. They are suppose to stay at home, watch over the family, and be there to great their husbands at the door when they get home from work. Even though her father is against a big church wedding he gives in and Kay and her new husband have a beautiful wedding and everyone lives happily ever after. In the 1950 s women were expected to be beautiful and be good wives. In the 1960 s women were portrayed in movies to be torn between having good morals and wanting to have sex. In the Splendor in the Grass, Dinny is a highschools girl in love with a boy named Bud. • 7. Pros And Cons Of Space Race Do We Need Another Space Race? The possibility of a second space race has grown stronger than ever recently. After the launch of the most affordable and the second most powerful rocket of all time, the Falcon Heavy by SpaceX, the subject has been given new life. Following the successful launch, Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, stated that he wants to start a second space race. Already, his wish has started coming true. After only a week after the first launch, many other companies have already stated their own plans for rocket launches and development. However, throughout all the excitement and speculations, people are forgetting to ask an important question: do we even need another space race? The original space race took place from the estimated years of 1957 all the way through 1975, starting with the launch of the first man made satellite, the Sputnik I, and ending with the Apollo Soyuz mission, which contained a Soviet cosmonaut and an American astronaut shaking hands in outer space, closing off the space race with a rather symbolic ending. During the space race, the United States and the Soviet Union, who were the strongest nations in the world at the time, both competed to make the most scientific and technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a few downsides scattered around that are either entirely unavoidable or just simply need to be worked out. The biggest problem that would most likely form is the increased amount of pollution that would result from a higher launch rate for rockets and other space fairing vehicles. The Falcon Heavy rocket used around 970,034 pounds of fuel during the test flight from February of 2018. SpaceX also plans on launching another rocket every two weeks sometime in the future, which would unfortunately cause major environmental damage unless a new, less damaging fuel type or more efficient propulsion method could be developed, or if SpaceX would change their plans to be a little less ... • 8. Are the Values of Liberalism Universal Essay This is an immensely complex questions which deserves much more time and space than can be devoted in this essay. However I will endeavor to apply the theories of a number of authors to the problem and arrive at a reasonable conclusion based upon my analysis of them. Throughout the course of the essay I will make reference to a number of authors, writing on subjects of Ethics, Philosophy and Feminism, with the intention of attempting to divine the validity to the claim of liberalism s universality. To start of with there will be an examination of the theory of liberalism itself, with particular focus upon the notion of individuality and its conception of rights in accordance with it. Using the work of George Beiswanger and Bhikhu Parekh I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is but one theory among a seas of others. Its enforcement is a point of much debate among contemporary scholars and policy makers. This is however how the current generation of liberals seem to view their mission. Not least the Neo liberals of the United States. Effectively typified by George W. Bush. Throughout the course of this essay I hope to challenge these viewpoints and perhaps see them change when faced with the arguments against them. To begin, lets looks at the conception of individualism in liberalism. A central part of the theory of liberalism is the acceptance of the theory of individualism. This is not however present in a number of varying culture and represent a unique quality that is possessed by liberalism. In the debate among liberals a large part of the discussions on individuals if the definition of rights. Often there is a comparison between the right and the good . There are different conceptions of the meaning of the words right and good . While adhering to the principle of individuality it is possible for each persons notion of the good to be different. Individuals can thus be affected adversely by what another individual considers to be good. An individual can be wronged quite adequately in the name of right and to the applause of moral men. Often we teach children myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can understand, or sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child s baby but both we and the child know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old man drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong. Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child parent relation that some lies are OK, or even good , and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children to show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents ourselves? ... Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the year, but Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that we know they will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we use Santa Claus as a middleman, how is this teaching children the gift of giving ? Or that we take time to think of them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling attached to the present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. • 11. The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future immigration to Europe (Glazer, 2010). In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010). Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the populace s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national identity which some ... Reaching goals in life sometimes feels like one uphill climb after another. The most important thing to remember is to keep a positive mindset during the entire journey. Nothing is too great to accomplish because If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you (New International Version, Matt. 17.20). This sets out the true analogy between reaching the summit of a mountain and making a dream into a reality. This argument is saying that the Romans were more powerful than the Han Empire based on its military system. This will be coming from the Han s prospective from 206 B.C to 220 B.C. • 32. The Progression Of Abstract Algebra Math 559 IDEALS IN RINGS by Naira Arakelyan 1. Introduction The progression of abstract algebra has come to be due to problems which were deemed to be unsolvable through classical methods, as well as discoveries from past mathematicians. Firstly, these problems had been associated with the theory of algebraic equations by the closing of the 19th century. Significant topics of abstract algebra would consist of Diophantine equations, as well as arithmetical investigations of higher and quadratic degree forms which had contributed to the concept of notions of a ring and ideal. It is important to know that a ring is generally the setting in which integer arithmetic is generalized, hence it being a stepping stone for the advancement of commutative ring theory. It is also important to know that ring theory can be used to comprehend the fundamental laws of physics, including basic special relativity as well as symmetry phenomena in molecular chemistry. The attempts created to solve Fermat s Last Theorem also advanced the path for generalizing integer arithmetic, and developed the concept of a ring. In Fermat s Last Theorem, it is stated: The equation xn+ yn= zn has no solution for positive integers, x, y, z when n 2. Fermat wrote I have discovered a truly remarkable proof which this margin is too small to contain. (Diophantus s Arithmetica) One attempt to prove Fermat s Last Theorem had been in the year 1753, when Euler had brought forward a novel set of integers which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of the people are taught to have their own thinking and make their own decisions, but is that really the case though? Many of the people are making decisions that the society thinks is better rather than what they think without even noticing. In the essay This is Life written by Annie Dillard, an author who best known for her works of poetry, essays, prose, and literary criticism argues, the general public nowadays takes their life for granted and don t realize how blessed they are to enjoy such a facile life comparable to millions that are not as fortunate. Ultimately, Dillard thinks that instead of pursuing a life that what might seem to be a good life in others mind, the general public should not be constrained by the society and settle down to an ordinary life; people ... • 34. The Insane Man In Middle School It was like any ordinary Monday at our school, teenagers in the halls chatting, people eating during first lunch, and teachers instructing their fourth period classes. But everything suddenly changed when an unnatural looking figure approached the middle school. Violent video games do increase aggression in children who are already aggressive in nature but do not have a negative effect on most children. Studies have been conducted to test whether or not violent video games increase aggression in children. The first study was conducted by Jia Kun Zhang from Shanghai University of Sport and Qian Zhang from Southwest University. The purpose of this study was to investigate how aggression resulting from video games varies by gender and the child´s trait aggressiveness level. Two tests were conducted: the first being a test of two hundred and twenty children to see what games the children found violent. The goal of this essay is to introduce the concept of market failure and what might happen if government intervention is prosecuted. Also this essay will acknowledge the different aspects of one of the major topics in economics the scarce of resources and it s aspects: allocation, production, and distribution. Furthermore in this writing academic literature and articles would be used in order to defend the outcome of the discussion about government intervention in the market. Economics are a complex matter which alters in time. Economics can be also defined as the science which studies human behavoir as a relation between ends and scarce means which have alternative uses (L.Robbins,1935,p.495) In other words economics are a study of how to allocate, product, and distribute goods among the people. Economics as any other science faces problems which need to be viewed in depth in order to be resolved. Some of the main issues faced are the scarce of resources and when is the government intervention required. The issue of government interference in the economy is considered more than two centuries. One of the main reasons for intervention are market failures, with manifest limitations of the market mechanism, leading to inefficiency in allocation, production and distribution of resources. • 37. An Analysis Of Cold As Heaven By Judith Ortiz Cofer Cold as Heaven Judith Ortiz Cofer s poem Cold as Heaven is a very sweet interaction between a granddaughter and her dying grandmother. The granddaughter is the narrator. After reading the poem, I believe the meaning of the poem is that the cold is something that the grandmother never experienced, and the cold refers to heaven. The grandmother has not yet experienced heaven and she is curious. In lines 25 30: When her eyes return to me, I can see she s waiting to hear more about the purifying nature of ice, how snow makes way for a body, how you can make yourself an angel by just lying down and waving your arms (Cofer). These lines describe winter as a place where angels are made. It mentions that even when the snow touches you, it is a feeling of purification. This symbolizes that heaven is a place filled with angels that purify you. The poem consists of many different uses of figurative language in order to connect snow to death. Cofer included the use of similes to allow the readers to make a connection to what she was saying, so that they could grasp a better understanding. An example of a simile can be found in lines 6 7: the Caribbean sun winds up the world like an old alarm clock (Cofer). The author is comparing two unlike things, the sun and an alarm clock, however they have a similar connection. The Caribbean sun is what wakes the world, just like an alarm clock does. The use of this simile adds to the poem s meaning because it describes the life that the grandmother lives and that is warmth in her home in the Caribbean. There is a lot of imagery included in the poem. Throughout the poem I was able to visualize what the author descriptively shared. The poem includes descriptions of where the grandmother lives in the Caribbean, where the granddaughter lives with the winter weather, and how heaven looks through the eyes of the granddaughter s comparison to winter. As I read through the poem several time, I looked for some mention of Christianity. I found it in lines 1 2: Before there is a breeze again before the cooling days of Lent, she may be gone (Cofer). Obviously, it is a Christian belief that when you die you will go to heaven. I wondered how long grandma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
