Stocks and Bonds
In the financial markets, the most common forms of marketable securities are stocks and bonds.
Though they have some similarities to each other, they differ greatly in many aspects. Broadly
speaking, both financial instruments enable one to invest in corporations, public and/or private, with
possible profitable returns in the future.
Stocks (or shares), by definition, are shares of ownership in a company. By purchasing stocks in a
company, the investor becomes a part owner, and thereby owns a percentage share of the company s
after tax profits. Stocks/shares have two key characteristics: 1) they can be issued in small
denominations: an investor can purchase as many or as few shares in a company as he/ she wants,
thereby becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stocks were rising on expectations of economic recovery later in the year, and bond prices fell as their
yields increased (bond prices and yields are inversely related). The yield on the 2 year notes and 10
year notes, which are heavily influenced by the Fed regulated interest rates and inflation expectations,
respectively, increased from .76% to 1.4% and 2.25% to 3.93 during the same period, respectively.
Concurrently, the S P 500 had gained 4.8%, rebounding 40% from March lows.
Though stocks have statistically delivered higher returns in the long term compared to bonds, bond
prices are less volatile. The dividends paid out on stocks are uncertain and depend on the distributable
profits of the company, the company s investment plans and cash needs for the same, and other such
factors. On the other hand, bonds generally make a pre specified interest payout to all bondholders
periodically, thereby ensuring an assured, known cash inflow in the hands of a bond holder. Further,
on maturity of the bond, a pre determined principal amount is paid out by the issuer to the bondholder,
to purchase back the bond. Hence, a bondholder who holds the bond to maturity, knows exactly how
much he /she will receive both by way of interest as well as principal on maturity. This is completely
untrue for stocks, where neither the dividend flow nor the capital appreciation is predictable with
certainty.
Bonds are therefore relatively safer

Role Of Passage In American Culture
The rites of passage is the way of life for many cultures. These rites of passage are the beginning and
endings of a particular stage of your life such as, birth, adulthood, marriage and death. One of the
most important rites of passage that many of us experience and will always remember vividly is the
rite of passage to adulthood. Different cultures have different ways to celebrate the transitioning
process; the age range varies as well as different the events to overcome in order to complete the rite
of passage. In this paper, I will explore and examine the differences and similarities of rite of passage
in different cultures and how religion plays a major part in the rite of passage in many cultures and
how rite of passage difference from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An individual experiences or a change from an affixed position in society to another position, that
individual can easily describe their change as a passage. In American culture a normal rites of passage

entering adulthood. A girl in this stage can no longer be treated as a child; she is rather gains
recognition as an adult. Additionally, graduation from high school is also generally recognized as a
passage from childhood into adulthood in the American culture. Students graduating from high school
are seen as adults. They are ready to start making major decisions about what they want out of life.
Attention of rite of passage was mainly focused on puberty in many cultures. Some of these practices
where quite brutal in many countries as many children had to undergo starvation, endure pain or
insults in which if they lived through it would be taken as entrance passage into the adult society

An Explanation of the British s Stuggles to Finance the...
The article written by Javier Cuenca Esteban, The British balance of payments, 1772 1820: India
transfers and war finance focuses on the British ability to finance the wars with Napoleonic France.
Esteban challenges the academic state of debate regarding the importance of exports on British
Industrialization by pointing out that he believes without the exports from India, Britain would have
struggled to finance her wars with France and may have never become the incubator of
Industrialization. His argument comes back to the numbers he presents projecting the gap between
foreign indebtedness actual and counterfactual would increase from 1802 to 1815 by over ninety
million British pound sterling. The significant increase in debt was ... Show more content on

Esteban sets the value of his calculations by creating an average of pre existing calculations for the
earliest time frame of 1772 1775 of net British debts. He relies mainly on figures derived from Walter
Nash and Albert H. Imlah, both of which are Economic British Historians. The author then begins to
advance each line according to their own specific histories. For instance he takes into account the raise
of tariffs on certain products such as tobacco that would affect the quantity of illegal imports, thus
affecting the real credit value. The author also goes into great detail to compensate for the stated
inaccuracies of some numbers, by showing how numbers counter balance one another to give an
accurate final account of net credits. In the appendix he goes into great depth to explain each category
as well as giving a price evidence for numerous specific commodities traded between Britain and
India during this time period.
Esteban concludes with acknowledging the weaker values for some of the credits. He makes it clear
the entire process of the time period moving from mercantilism to industrialization within the time
frame and the wars with France created extremely complex range of scenarios to explain the balance
of payments. He points out research in the areas of wealthy immigrants transfers and net incomes, as
well as capital flow from the British West Indies remain particularly difficult to quantify. This gap in

The Fight Against The Minority Groups
The Fight to Protect The recent political climate in this country has placed more focus on the rights of
minorities. The current discourse is fierce, and it revolves around how much should be done when it
comes to representing and fighting for minorities who are being discriminated against. The recent
spike in hate crimes has done little to appease fears within these minority groups, and the persecution
of minorities will create more problems for not just them, but for every citizen in this country. It is
with that in mind that preeminent nonprofit organizations like the National Urban League have more
of a responsibility now when it comes to ensuring the safety and success of the disenfranchised
minority groups in the United States. Historically speaking, African Americans in this country have
faced the most discrimination than any other minority group. As the history of the NUL has proven
they will not hide away from this responsibility of protecting them. The NUL is a nonpartisan civil
rights organization based in New York City that advocates on behalf of African Americans and against
racial discrimination in the United States. Being the oldest and largest community based organization
of its kind in the nation, they are the torch bearers for protecting the African American young men of
this country, and they are needed now more than ever. The National Urban League was founded more
than a century ago on September 29, 2010, primarily by Dr. George Edmund Haynes and Ruth

Parent Child Relationships In Romeo And Juliet
Johnnie Dent Jr. once said, As parents we have a tendency to overprotect; it s okay to try and show
them all positives but we cannot forget that the real world has teeth. The real world is a tough place
and parents knowing their kids are going to be going in it is a hard thing to think about. The author is
saying that yes the world is going to be tough and it s ok to show your kids the positives but remember
the world isn t all as it s said to be. The parent teen relationship plays an important role in Romeo and
Juliet by William Shakespeare and for teenagers today. Aspects of this relationship include romance,
communication, trust, and romance within teens.

The relationship will be stronger and information can be shared between each other easier.Parents can
also get mixed signals on how their teenagers are feeling towards things. In The Tragedy Of Romeo
and Juliet this problem is present. When the death of Tybalt occurs Juliet s parents think her sadness is
due to this which in reality it s because of the banishment of her husband Romeo. Teens can do one
thing and their parents can take it the whole other way. Teens soon start to think that their parents don
t understand how they feel about things. Parents can also take things their child says in a different way,
which can cause confusion and frustration. Parents have a different way they talk from their children
which can include lectures. In You Just Don t Understand, Craig, Judi E states Adolescent s eyes glaze
over when parents launch into lengthy explanations in an attempt to get teens to see a different point
of view. Because a parent senses that the teen has tunes off, she might repeat herself or cite more
examples, probably raising her voice at the same time. When communications skills begin to weaken
teenagers begin to hide things from parents because it is a struggle for them to get their point across
without having problems arise. Craig goes on to say that when parents continue to ask questions to
their teens they start to get aggravated. When a teen loses their temper they

Morality In Plato s Euthyphro
Morality in Euthyphro
To reach an understanding whether acts are immoral or moral we must ask ourselves what we consider
to be immoral or moral. According to Protagoras first claim on moral relativism, he states Man is the
measure of all things, of the things that are, that they are, and of the things that are not, that they are
not. The way something appears to me, is true to me and the way something appears to you, is true to
you. Consequently, meaning there is no absolute truth. Aristotle and Plato, both argue holding that the
view on moral objectivism is that there is a reality or realm of object and facts existing independent of
the mind. What actions are right to some, might be wrong to others. Essentially, morality is arbitrary.
It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morality intakes are relative to an individual s beliefs. If Euthyphro thinks punishing his father for
unmoral acts is moral than that is right for him. Both Plato and Aristotle would think that Protagoras s
claims are contradicting because if he says that relativism is truth for him than it would be false for
those who don t believe in relativism. Aristotle and Plato believe that there must be an objective truth,
something that is true for everyone at any given place or time. Taking an objective approach may not
always be relevant, particularly in cases where it is impossible to be objective because of the relevant
facts and viewpoints. In this case, how can someone know for sure that there is universal truth? Not
everyone is going to believe in the same principles as others, regardless of time, culture, place, etc.
Therefore, I believe there is no objective truth to

Classroom Safety
In my school there are different safety policies for the events, but one thing stays the same throughout
all of the safety policies and that is the bag. Each classroom has the red bag that hangs behind the
door. Inside the red bag is three cards red, green, and yellow that are about the size of conduction
paper and made of plastic. The red card is for a missing student, the yellow for an extra student and
the green for all is good. Inside this bag is also an a set of instructions for every disaster along with a
class roll for both of their blocks, a loud whistle and some latex gloves and Band Aids in a small bag
of their own. In every safety policy the teacher is supposed to bring the bag with them, and

Sport Obermeyer faced was how to allocate production between factories in Hong Kong and China.

The competition policy is used stop a company from running the whole market and allow for healthy
competition across the market. The competition policy therefore encourages each business within a
particular sector to perform to the best of their ability and for fairness /protection of suppliers. It
ensures that one large business can not monopolize the market. Anti competitive agreement are in

millions at the age of sixteen. Yes . . . oh my gosh, all these chocolates are for me?! I was seriously
just craving chocolate! No, solving child hunger really wasn t very hard. After all it was for the
children, I just put my mind to it and the rest was easy! That is correct, for the year 2016 I will be
running for president. I actually just surpassed all the other candidates running in the poll this
morning! Can you believe it? I m ecstatic! Oh thank you, you are too sweet Ellen. It was such a
pleasure being here on your show with . My eyes open up and I am back in a world of reality, stepping

of what life would be like if we could experience all of the pleasures we could possibly desire.

pleasure is not the most essential good. First of all, it is impossible to discern pleasure without
hardship, leading you to be doomed into the life of a tyrant. Another reason not

Industrialization During The Late Abraham Lincoln
America is the great exception where people can be born of humble origins and rise to the top to
become the next Abraham Lincoln (Pettengill). However, in the Early Republic things began to
change and industrialization created a huge gap between the rich and the poor and made it hard to rise
to the top. Industrialization changed America from an agricultural country to one based on
manufacturing goods and services. This change created advancement and expansion for the nation as a
whole. Industrialization was very helpful to the economy but was an impediment for the working
class, like Sam Patch. In the book, Sam Patch by Paul E. Johnson, it is evident how industrialization
restricted the freedom of the working class and increased the great divide between the rich and the
poor.
The industrial revolution limited the amount of jobs available and created many unskilled labor jobs.
Free labor economy made it possible for skilled workers to make money by independently selling their
products. Industrial engineers found a way to build machines that were faster, more powerful, more
efficient and more reliable than the human muscle. As seen in The American System of
Manufacturers, Joseph Whitworth stated, the laboring class are comparatively few in number, but this
is counter balanced by, and indeed may be regarded as one of the chief causes of, the eagerness with
which they call in the aid of machinery in almost every department of industry (Whitworth 226) This
machinery slowly

Summary Of The Simpsons And Their Mathematical Secrets By...
The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets by Simon Singh is a trade book that talks about the
history of The Simpsons and Futurama and how mathematics is embedded into numerous episodes in
each series. Along the way Singh, in addition to the other main writers for The Simpsons, talk about
many of the subtle math jokes that are present. These jokes range from very simple jokes that students
in elementary school could understand to jokes that not even some mathematics professors with
doctorate degrees can decipher. Singh said that everything that happens to us has some effect on us,
and I do suppose that the time I spent in grad school made me a better writer at the end of the book.
He recalls when he was younger and he was working on numerous projects in mathematics. In
addition to being a bright student, he had the ability to make jokes. Eventually, several famous people
in television such as Johnny Carson and David Letterman noticed this and gave him an in in the

Ethical Implications Of Disclosure
Ethical Implications of Disclosure and Nondisclosure
Being an advanced practice nurse is a huge responsibility. The profession itself is advancing and with
the Affordable Care Act moral, ethical and legal considerations of providing care as an advanced
practice nurse have increased exponentially. Ethical standards for nurse practitioner are defined in the
American Nurses Code of Ethics. Ethical standard are based largely on the individual nurse beliefs.
Because ethics are not a clear cut science, the handling certain situations are defined by state laws.
The purpose if this paper is to consider ethical and legal implications of revealing a prescribing
mistake to a patient who has no knowledge that a mistake exist.
Ethical Implications
Nurses have a responsibility to understand and operate with the confines of the law concerning
medications. However the responsibility does not end at the law there are also ethical, moral if you
will, implications. Writing prescription for patients is an integral part of providing care for patients in
today s society (Arcangelo Peterson, 2013). Ethical concerns with prescription writing include
understanding medications and ensuring that individual prescribers take responsibility for the care
they each provide. The American Nurses Association Code of Ethics Provision 3 (2015), indicates that
the nurse will promote, advocates, and protect the rights, health, and safety of the patient. This means
that when a nurse realizes a mistake has

J. K. Rowling?s Portrayal of Magical Creatures in the Harry Potter Series as Compared to Creatures in
Ancient Mythology The world famous book series, Harry Potter, has been an instant success
worldwide. This series follows the life of a young boy, Harry Potter, in chronological order from the
beginning to the end of his schooling. Harry Potter is schooled at a magical school somewhere in
England, which is where the majority of the books take place. He is an adventurous boy who
experiences many different quests and journeys with his loyal friends. This book series focuses mainly
on the many magical creatures from many different types of mythology, some even including stories
with Indian, Greek, or Roman backgrounds. J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series,
incorporates these magical animals into the stories? plots and help to convey several messages about
Harry Potter. The mythical creatures that are the most prominent in Rowling?s series are the dragons
and werewolves. The dragon and werewolf both have origins found in mythology and are crucial to
Rowling?s themes in the books Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban, furthering the messages that Rowling is trying to portray to her audience. In the Harry

T. S. Eliot was a man who strongly believed that poetry should represent life. He knew that life was
complex, so that is why his poetry was difficult to understand not only for students writing research
papers, but also for critics. He was the backbone of modernist poetry, who wrote mostly about
darkness, despair, and depression in life. He tried and succeeded to capture the torment of the world
during World War 1 and World War II (Shmoop T.S. Eliot ). Eliot s view of the human condition is
evident in The Hollow Men through the issues of fear, despair, and depression. The poem starts out
with a couplet. The first line talks about a man who is dead. In the second line it talks about giving a

themselves, they amount to nothing (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis ). The narrator goes on to say
that people who die see the Hollow Men before they pass onto death s other kingdom. What do the
dead people pass over? The dead people pass over the river Styx, which in greek mythology is the
pathway you must cross in order to go to Heaven or Hell (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis ). He
makes a point to say that the Hollow Men are not lost as violent souls. Why do the Hollow Men stay
around the area where people cross from life to the afterlife? The Hollow Men do not cross the river to
enter Heaven or Hell because they did not admit their mistakes in order to be sent to Hell, and they are
blind, so they cannot know where the river is and how to cross it (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis
). The narrator does not want to make eye contact with something in a dream. What does the narrator
not want to make eye contact with? The Hollow Men do not want to make eye contact with the people

Factors Affecting Consumer Demand
Consumers has the sole power to dictate the supply and demand of any good. They do not realize the
influence they over the market prices. Time has shown, if people, investors, and businesses stop
purchasing goods and services, the economy will relapse. The theory of consumer choice can affect
three different areas such as, Demand curve, Higher wages, and Higher interest rates. Since the theory
affect these areas, consumers can governor its variations. What makes a consumer s choice the goods
or services over another? There are several factors that can inspire alteration in those areas for
example price, availability, social responsibility of the company, convenience, enjoyment, familiarity.
These factors that can affect consumer s choice. When the consumers decide to purchase a good, they
have considered several different aspects of it. Normally when the prices are low, consumer s demand
will increase in buying the good. Though price is the dominating contributing factor of consumer s
choice, they also considered all aspects, before making a purchase. The demand curve starts to shift to
the right; it represents the product is becoming more in demand. If the prices are the low but the
demand is not increasing for quality as an issue, it will shift to the left on the demand curve. There are
some consumers who want cheaply made goods this will only effective if that demand was in demand.
Consumer also influence the supply of a good. If the demand is high enough to create a

An Article On The World Anti Doping Agency
On June 9th, 2016, an article written by ESPN Senior Writer, Darren Rovell, was published on
ESPN.com regarding Maria Sharapova s two year suspension over a positive doping test result
(Rovell, 2016). Maria Sharapova, the highest paid female athlete today, announced in March 2016 that
she tested positive for taking meldonium, a banned substance that was recently added to the World
Anti Doping Agency s (WADA) prohibited substance list. Initially, the International Tennis Federation
(ITF) suspended Sharapova for two years but after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
(CAS) by the Sharapova team, the Russian tennis star s suspension was reduced to 15 months and she
can return to competition in April 2017. Meldonium is a heart drug that is available for purchase over
the counter in Russia. This drug is believed to help the body produce energy in a more efficient
manner. Sharapova was unintentionally committing a doping violation, which is the ethical issue in
this situation. She had been taking meldonium since 2006 to help her manage multiple health
problems. Sharapova however, was not the only athlete that tested positive for meldonium. There were
around 172 athletes in total, 40 whom were Russian that also failed a drug test for taking meldonium.
This affected Russia s attendance in the Rio Olympic Games as a number of athletes were banned

Sexism puts a barrier on what society views as acceptable for a man and woman to do. It also may be
true that men and women are not necessarily equal physically. Men are scientifically proven are
stronger than women physically in terms of muscles and athletic ability. Men are physically stronger
than women, who have, on the average, less total muscle mass, to the total body mass and men also
have denser, stronger bones, tendons and ligaments (Burton, 2012). Men tend to be larger than women
in size which makes them tend to carry out more muscles and more muscles normally points toward
having more strength than women. But on the other hand, people should approach fairness and not
equality because sexism has negative impacts on the people which causes them to commit suicide. In

Growing Up Around Women Breastfeeding
Growing up around women breastfeeding was quite interesting; although I was young I was always
embarrassed to be around a nursing mother. Most of us are aware that breastfeeding is the most natural
way of providing infants with the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development.
Breastfeeding to a lot of mothers is the time of bonding between themselves and child. Disagreement
arises when nursing mothers decide to perform feedings in public areas. Then we have the groups of
people that view breastfeeding in public places as indecent and offensive. In an article about current
breastfeeding laws the authors state that currently, the majority of the US states have legislation
permitting women to breastfeed in any location and exempting breastfeeding from indecency laws
(Nguyen,Hawkins). I don t think the issue is with breastfeeding itself. What may actually be the
problem with the whole breastfeeding in public debate would have to be the action of breastfeeding,
the locations where the mothers choose to breastfeed and sometimes age of child being breastfeed.
Public breastfeeding can be a very touchy topic with strong feelings on both sides of the debate. After
considering both sides of the issue, breastfeeding in public areas should not be done.
People claim that the actual problem they have with breastfeeding is the action of breast feeding. The
main reason for that initial awkwardness is probably the taboo against showing one s breasts around
other people without

Schoharie Creek Bridge Collapse
The process of removal of sediments from around the bridge piers is referred to as bridge scouring.
The major cause of scouring is the increase velocity of the flowing water which takes away the
sediments with it causing the formation of scour holes thereby compromising the integrity of the
structure. In United States, bridge scour is one of the three main causes of bridge failure and it has
been estimated that 60% of all bridge failure results from scour and other hydraulic related causes.
One such disaster is the Schoharie Creek Bridge Collapse which took the life of 10 people and caused
the bridge related failures of about $30 million. From the above case study, it was evident that
scouring has very adverse effects in terms of loss of life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implementation costs of the recycled tire mats is also unknown but what is known is that the tire
mats last longer and require less repair than the riprap. They last on average 32 years. That is 12 years
longer than the riprap and will therefore cost that much less when taking all costs into consideration.
Due to its robust material and hydrodynamic design, the Scouring ramp is expected to have a
significantly longer life span than the tradition Rip Rap approach. Our suggested material for the
ramps are similar in strength and oxidation resistant properties as the high strength steel that makes up
TLP tendons of deep water oil platforms. The metals used for these anchors can withstand strong
ocean currents as wells as oxygen based corrosion. The life span of the ramps if made from the same
grade of steel is estimated to last a minimum of 32 years. The tire mats are expected to have an
extremely long life span due to rubber strength of car tires. Hence the tire mats are expected to share
the same life span of the entire bridge itself. Rip rap, though it is expected to have a long life span as
well, the issue of scouring taking place around the rip rap adds significant cost given that eventually,
the rock pile would need to be replaced every 2 years or so. A pier that requires 50 cubic meters of rip
rap would require 132 tons of concrete rubble costing nearly $300 per replacement. With this data we
are able to compare the present worth of the repair and replacement cost of Rip Rap and Scouring
ramps over the span of a 32

Descriptive Essay About Snowboarding
Ever since I can just about remember I have been Snowboarding. Well first I started off skiing, but I
wanted more of a challenge. What got me started was my older brother Daniel when he tried it for the
first time, he didn t stick with it because he hit his head to many times (I think he is just a pansy). Him
and his friends use to call me hobo Joe, which I kind of liked cause it rhymes with my name Joe and It
gave me attention. We would always go to this little ski resort about 20 minutes away from our house
and it was a blast, I loved it. I didn t have any friends to go with at the time so I just tagged alot with
my older brother which was fine enough.
I was 12 years old when we first started planning our trip to go to a resort in Colorado, I remember
sitting up at night talking with my older brother, counting down the days till we finally got to leave for
our skiing adventure. And to top it all off some of daniel s friends were coming along with our cousin
Jodi and oldest brother nick. Even though Daniel and his friends tease me at times I still find it a lot of
fun to hang out with them.
Dad how much longer till we finally get to leave? I would ask my dad with urgency, not understanding
at the time that asking ever couple of hours would not make the departure come any faster. Rolling his
eyes my dad would answer This is the fifth time today you asked that question, we are leaving
tomorrow morning . Dancing down the hall I hurry to my room that I share with Daniel. When I
approached the door I could heard these terrible retching noises coming from behind the door. I peek
inside the door to see Daniel with his face in the waste basket. My heart starts to sink, knowing that if
Daniel is too sick to travel then we weren t going to be able to leave for this trip. I go tell my parents
and then trudgingly flop down on the couch knowing I wasn t going to get very good sleep tonight.
I wake up messaging my neck trying to get the knot that had developed there overnight due to my
sleeping arrangements. Sleepy, I walk to the bathroom and start to wash my face and start my morning
routine. As I took my clothes off and I walking into the shower and turned on the hottest the water
would go, I liked when it was

The Inspired Kantian Non Formalism Analysis
Chapter Four
The Inspired Kantian Non Formalism
The interpretation of Kant as a moral formalist or constructivist precisely, has been dominant in much
of the recent secondary literature on Kant in English speaking world, for Silber, Rawls and O Neill we
analyzed. Those interpretations have lately come under sustained philosophical attack by the
defenders of a non moral formalist or realist interpretation of Kant. We have mentioned at the outset,
the essential division for formalist and non formalist is in their understanding C1 as a formal
accomplishment or not. So far we have seen the formalist holds out for the preeminence of
universalzation in the hierarchy of principles, i.e. the buttressing rules Rawls or O Neill posed. Now
we are to see how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of moral law springs from pure reason or reason that exists separate from empirical
considerations. Since pure reason is able to be relevant to material action, we see a conceptual bridge
is constructed in the form of the maxim, to the degree that it is tested in accordance to prescriptive
law, a determinate rule of action. This determination, it must be stressed, is voluntary and subjectively
constructed, while the basis of the analysis, this intend to act from duty, is based on an understanding
of moral law.
Hence, Dietrichson points out a non formal approach to explain Kant, it is non formal because it raises
the humanity the material for Kant to guide action. Precisely, because the pure reason enables us to
grasp the moral law, we are striking to fulfill the requirement to act from duty as it constitutes purity
of our humanity. Dietrichson did not see the formula of moral law as formal accomplishment that
reason alone could indentify moral law, but it must have non formal

Apush Essay -- in What Ways and to What Extent Was...
In the early 1800s, America changed in a lot of ways in a short amount of time. The change that
occurred was, for the most part, the result of the industrial development. The industrial advancements
in the early 1800s had a huge amount of consequences, both positive and negative. But the industrial
development from 1800 to 1860 affected the North and the South in hugely different ways. The
prominent differences eventually caused an amazing amount of tension between the two regions as
they moved in completely separate directions. Mainly, the North and the South differentiated when it
came to cultures, economies, and political views. With the dawn of the 19th century, there were three
revolutions that completely altered the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the majority of Southerners didn t own slaves, slaves were used in the South to keep the
revenue up, and slavery was very much a part of the agricultural lifestyle. Political tension between
the North and the South started early when there was disagreement over Henry Clay s American
System. The American System imposed tariffs to support northern manufacturing, federally funded
roads and canals, and supported the National Bank. Northerners were in support of the American
System but the South wasn t on board with the plan. This protective tariff was a tax on imports, and
since the South was receiving most of the imported goods, they got the brunt of the tariff. The South
believed it was unfair that it was putting money into the North s industrial economy when the South
was barely making enough revenue to support itself. While the South provided the Northern industries
with most of the raw materials they needed, the price the North paid for these things were nothing
compared to what the South had to pay for the manufactured goods the North produced. The
opposition to the American System was so strong that South Carolina declared the tariffs void and
threatened to leave the Union. But Andrew Jackson worked with South Carolina and the Union
remained whole. This was the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The two regions clashed politically too.
While the North became generally

Exercise And Cold Water Immersion
The participation of Cold Water Immersion after a taxing training session or competition seems to be
ritualistic in athletics. Cold water immersion, cold whirlpool therapy, and ice baths are all forms of
cryotherapy; which is defined as the application of a device or substance with a temperature less than
body temperature, thus causing heat to pass from the body to the cryotherapy device. (Knight and
Draper, 2013, p. 229). Cold Water Immersion (CWI) is a form of recovery cryotherapy that involves
submersing an individual s affected limb or extremities into water that is less than that of body
temperature.
Exercise and Cold Water Immersion Theory Many processes happen within the human body in
regards to exercise and pain. One major complaint within athletics is muscle soreness caused by
exercise. Muscle soreness can affect performance negatively during activity. Delayed Onset Muscle
Soreness (DOMS) is a sub type of soreness that intensifies after twenty four to forty eight hours post
exercise. It is thought to be caused by small tears in the muscle tissues, inflammation, or it could be
due to the disruption of connective tissue of the muscle tissue, stiffness (Prentice, 2009, p. 273). CWI
is thought to decrease the effects of DOMS and promote an active recovery by decreasing
inflammation and metabolism, which can slow down the physiological responses of injury. (Knight
and Draper, 2013, p. 214)
When to CWI and Perceived Recovery Cold water immersion is primarily

Integrated Pest Control
Pesticides are chemicals that are used to control crops from weeds, insects, and more (1). Pests are
plants, animals, and organisms that could become a threat to the food supply and health (5). The
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for the regulation of pesticides in the United
States. Under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), all manufacturers of
pesticides must register their products with the EPA (1). The EPA has set strict rules regarding the use
and availability of pesticides. Pesticide manufacturers must provide test data to the EPA about the
toxicity, and the EPA will then approve the pesticide for specific use, such as controlling a specific
species of insect on a type of plant (1). Pesticides are evaluated for many risk factors including
potential danger to humans and wildlife (3). Before pesticides are approved for use, the manufacturer
must prove that the pesticide is not too toxic to be used on crops that will eventually be consumed by
humans (3). They must also prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One method of pest control is Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM is a way of controlling pests to
an acceptable level instead of illuminating the pest (5). One way to control pests this way is to plant
other organisms that repel the pest, like how pests were controlled in the 17th century by planting
tobacco plants (5). Since there is no set definition of what IPM is, there is no way to determine how
widespread IPM is being used (1). Another way to control pests without use of excessive chemical
pesticides is the use of bio pesticides. Bio pesticides control pests using natural organisms such as soil
microbes instead of synthetic chemicals (1). Bio pesticides are often less toxic than chemical
pesticides because they only affect their target pests, and they do not last long in the environment

I. ABSTRACT
Our group investigated wireless security system design for home use. The target market is composed
of lowincome individuals who cannot afford the services of a security company such as ADT. Ideally
the sensor nodes would communicate their status to a base station through mesh networking, however,
after experiencing a few difficulties, only an IR barrier sensor, and a motion detector, powered by
PIC microprocessors were completed along with a sample
program ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The system worked, but did not allow terminals to communicate between each other, and furthermore,
did not deal with our main proposed challenge, which is organizing the sensor nodes. Because the
terminals are not constrained by size or power consumption, they can be equipped with a transmitter
that can reach the base, without depending on another terminal for a relay or retransmission. Next, in
the model networks, is the cellular network, consisting of both stationary and mobile sensor nodes.
The stationary sensor node, or base, receives the data form the mobile sensor nodes, and relays it to
some fixed network via a wired backbone. The mobile sensor nodes outnumber the base by a factor of
at least a hundred, and are located randomly.
Yet the only issue they have with organization is encountered in terms of cell to cell or as they re
called, handoffs , as the mobile sensor node moves from the range of one base station to another.
Again, because the mobile sensor nodes are not constrained by size or power consumption, they can
be equipped with a transmitter that can reach the base, without depending on another mobile sensor
node for a relay or retransmission. Bluetooth 2 is another network model, consisting of a short range
wireless networking system created to replace the cable between electronic devices with

The Love Reform
Reform
The song Where is the Love? by the Black Eyed Peas focuses on the problems facing America, and
the world as a whole. The song is aimed towards people in society and how we are oblivious to what
is going on in the domain around us. The lyrics talk about the war in Iraq, racism, discrimination,
selfishness, murder, and terrorism. I think the main goal of the song is to bring forward these issues to
people in hope that it will strike a reform in the way society as a whole acts.
The song was released in 2003 in their third album, Elephunk. It was written after the 9/11 terrorist
attack and the war in Iraq. The song not only references to the terrorist attack upon the United States
of America but other terrorist groups as well. It states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song uses examples of real hate groups, real issues including racism, disrespect to others, and
basically having no love for the people of their country. Most of the population has probably come in
contact with one or more issues talked about it the song, making the song relatable and logical to
listeners. If Americans thought about it they would see that it was irrational to be over in Iraq forcing
other countries to change their ways, when America can t even feed and shelter all the homeless
people of the country not to mention all the other issues of our country. Everything that the song
entitles has truth to it, the lyrics If you only have love for your own race, then you only leave space to
discriminate, and to discriminate only generates hate... You re bound to get irate are true words and a
prime example of accuracy in the lyrics. I doubt anyone could argue these lyrics did not make a valid
point.
As I have shown, the song where is the Love by the Black Eyed Peas is a very persuasive song. The
use of ethos, logos, and pathos throughout the song help to convince listeners that something has to be
done. Reform is needed in America and they brought attention to this. America has real issues that
cannot and will not fix themselves it takes the community as a whole to stand up for what right and

Philosophers During The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment philosophers were some of the smartest thinkers who changed the way people
think during the 16th and 17th century. The philosophers changed the way we live and think today.
These discussions helped shape the capitalistic, democratic world in which we live in today. There
were numerous great philosophers during this time period that taught us many different methods of
teaching and understanding new observations.
John Locke was a philosopher who was born in England 1632. He lived in England during both the
English civil war and the Glorious Revolution. Locke believed that all men are naturally in a state of

choose what they want to do and that people are naturally free.
Adam Smith was born June, 1723 in a place called Kirkcaldy in The United Kingdom. Smith was a
supporter in economic decision making. He believed that individual work benefits themselves more
than a whole group would. He thinks that if everyone worked as an individual than the world would be
better. By pursuing his own interest he frequently promotes that of the society more than when he
really intends to promote it. Smith later died in on June, 19 1790 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

The Allegory Of The Cave By Ray Bradbury
Negative Effects of Overreliance Materialistic items play a key role in the world today. People use
these items, such as technological appliances, to fulfill their daily wants and needs. However, most
people do not realize the negative effects of such a heavy reliance on material goods. In The Allegory
of the Cave, Plato shares his idea that an overdependence on items can negatively affect ethical
decisions. This idea is discussed in The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, The Truman Show, by Peter Weir, and
Daniel Key s novel, Flowers for Algernon. Throughout all three stories, characters greatly rely on
items and other people, leading them to make unethical decisions. In some cases, people are
objectified as a result of being needed, desired, and treated unfairly. In The Veldt, The Truman Show,
and Flowers for Algernon, an overreliance on items leads to a loss of focus on morals and what is
ethically important. In Bradbury s The Veldt, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, lose a sense of
right and wrong because their reliance on technology distracts them from their morals. The children
lose compassion and understanding for others, engage in violence towards their parents, and make
hurtful and unethical comments towards family members. Their overreliance on technology distances
them from being able to work and provide for themselves. As Mr. Hadley tries and fails to seperate the
children from technology, the kids refuse to cooperate. Peter remembers how he didn t

The Vampire Chronicles Vs. Twilight Saga
The Vampire Chronicles vs The Twilight Saga Do you prefer The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice or
The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer? This question can lead into a huge argument due to the
opinions of who answers the question. A person can guess the answer by the age of the people. The
older generation would suggest The Vampire Chronicles because it tells the tale of the true vampires,
such as the human blood suckers that only comes out at night. While the younger generation would
suggest The Twilight Saga because it shows that vampires can be like regular people. Although there
are some major differences between The Vampire Chronicles and The Twilight Saga, the similarities
are shocking. For people who forgot or don t know about these two novels, these novels are about the
lives of vampires. The Vampire Chronicles (1976 2003) is by Anne Rice. Her novels are series that
tells the story of a French nobleman named Lestate de Lioncourt who transformed into a vampire in
the eighteenth century. The other novel series, The Twilight Saga, is by Stephenie Meyer. Her novel
series tells a story of a young ordinary female, Bella Swan, who falls in love with a vampire named

Metacarpi Reflection
The screenplay Metacarpi is the story of an institutionalized pianist and a lion aspiring friend whose
pursuit of freedom explores ideas of whether we might be happier in an institution if it allows us to
truly be ourselves.
When coming up with the story for the script, I first created the character of Dmitriy and the story
grew out of his character. A simple characterization of Dmitriy is a man struggling to free himself,
whose aura of grandeur and potential for greatness is lost on his environment. Out of this came the
idea of an institutionalized pianist who wants to perform the perfect performance. As the story grew I
added the characters of Sonja, the sister who desperately wants to get her brother out of the institution,

It is through their actions and visual appearance that I chose to show their characteristics. An example
of this would be that at no point in the script does George verbally express that he wants to dress up as

dialogue, we have the visual images of George with the lion s mane, George with the painted on
whiskers, and George with the permanently attached stuffed lion tail. The visual suffices to suggest to
the audience that George enjoys dressing up as a lion. The visual was crucial for the portrayal of
Dmitriy s character. I found visual detail allowed me to reveal more about Dmitriy than the dialogue
could. It was also served to represent his journey. The fragile gaunt Dmitriy in the brocade dressing
gown with the bloodied knuckles, barefoot, who becomes the beaming, tailcoat clad, barefoot Dmitriy.
The self isolating Dmitriy who observes his sister through a window rather than meeting with her,

Summary Of A True Story Of Life Behind The Veil Saudi...
Ciara Campos
Professor Coleman
Sociology 200
February 6, 2015
A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia Jean P. Sasson wrote a true event story about a
Saudi Arabian princess. It was about Sultana s own life story and the whole book is in her point of
view. To protect her identity she had to change names and obviously not explicit hers. It s a nonfiction
story of the outrage that is forced upon women throughout Saudi Arabia even today, a story that leaves
readers praying for change before it is too late for the next generation of girls growing up in Saudi
Arabia. This story is quite scary and very unbelievable how women around the world are being
treated. Even though Arabians have a very different point of view of religion and marriage it s really
all sexist and very sad what women have to go through, no matter rich or poor. Sultana is an actual
princess living the rich more successful life than others in Saudi Arabia. She grew up in a luxury
mansion since her dad came from a royal family closely related to a King. She literally has four
mansions on three continents, has her very own private jet, different types of jewels and designer
dresses. But in reality she s not happy with all she has because she s living like a slave in her own
gilded cage with absolutely no time of freedom. She can t ever leave the house, she has no control

Five Forces Of The Airline Industry
Five Forces model is one way to answer the fundamental question in strategic management; Why are
some industries more attractive than others? This pattern suggests five forces that shape industry
competition; bargaining power of buyers, threat of new entrants, threat of substitutes, bargaining
power of suppliers and competitors. In order to analyze the airline industry, we have a look at each of
these forces.
Bargaining power of Buyers The airline industry is made up of two groups of purchasers. First, there
are individual pilot. They buy airplane tickets for a number of reasons that can be personal or business
related. This group is extremely multitudinous; most people in developed countries have purchased
the airplane ticket. They can do this through the particular airline or through the second group of
purchasers; travel agencies and online portals. This buyer group ... Show more content on

In this case the key suppliers are the airplane producer. The top two producers in the world currently
are Boeing and Airbus (Odell, Mark). In this industry the factor of production is extremely
standardized. Airline companies only look differentiate with amenities. The planes are very similar.
Currently, some producer is trying to make their plans more Eco friendly.
Threat of New Entrants
The threat of new entrants is one of the five forces. This aspect is under threat for the aviation
industry. There are two aspects that are not But the threat level is raised. First, there is the cost of the

Despite the threats, the industry still has a very low overall. The company has a large cost advantage.
This industry requires significant capital and have a strong customer base will have little to no gain in

Gentrification Of Gentrification And Labor Markets
Introduction The study of urban spaces, especially with respect to gentrification, has increased
dramatically in significance and relevance in the past several decades. With the resurgence of city
living s popularity, urban revitalization has occurred in neighborhoods across the United States and
brought with it significant economic and social change. Gentrification is known as a process of
moving in wealthier residents and thereby increasing property values. From this, many conclude that it
constitutes neighborhood revitalization insofar as it improves the economic value of the area.
Therefore, a major consequence of this revitalization is that it often displaces low income residents
and small businesses (Zukin, 2010). Though much research and discourse exist to examine the plights
of these residents and firms, a frequently overlooked subject is gentrification s ability to displace labor
from an economic standpoint. This review will primarily demonstrate that the limited research on
gentrification and labor markets has concluded that a relationship between the two does seem to exist.
In particular, the literature has shown that gentrification may negatively impact the manufacturing
sector of the labor market, which has negative implications for urban economies. The review will also
summarize the consensus reached by the scholars in the field, and it will identify the trends observed
in their research. Finally, it will assess the gaps in the literature, and seek to find

Farley Mowats The Role Of Wolves In The Wild
About a century ago, a man by the name of Farley Mowat was sent to the frozen wilderness of Canada
to examine the actions of wolves and how their survival affects the plummeting of the caribou herds.
While studying a pack of seven, he acquired a deep feeling of admiration for this certain pack of
wolves. Almost halfway through the novel, Mowat gives each of the three adults a name that goes
along with their role in the family. While living near a pack of seven wolves, Mowat soon realizes that
they are not at fault for the decline in caribou society, as a matter of fact, they are doing quite the
opposite. There is something far more powerful than wolves harming the population. Human kind
itself is destroying the community of our nature. I kept coming up with the fantastic figure of 112,000
animals killed by trappers in this area every year (Page 86). With all the hunters and trappers in
Keewatin, the population of most animals are immensely falling downward. Over the months, Mowat
observes the wolves during their play time, how they hunt along with feeding the growing pups, and
how they survive. After all, wolves are not what they are said to be. After realizing that wolves are not
the problem, Mowat notices that wolves are actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, as he carries on with his examination, Mowat deflates most of the false accusations brought upon
wolves. Everyone has always assumed that wolves are dangerous and savage killers. But, Mowat s
findings did not fulfill the requirements of the information that the government wanted. Never Cry
Wolf is a novel that identifies the true behavior of wolves and how humans misunderstand their being.
At one point in the story, some trappers kill over twenty three caribou and deer just trying to frame the
wolves for the decrease in the caribou community. After all, wolves have always been thought of as
dangerous predators; this theory has been believed for hundreds of

The Discovery Of Gold And The Powder River
With the discovery of gold in the Powder River in the Sumpter Valley, prospectors from all around
began their journey into the valley to see if they could make a profit. In 1935, the construction of the
Sumpter Valley Dredge was underway, and one of the last gold dredges manufactured to work the
river until it s decommissioning nearly twenty years later. Sticking out from the dredge s structure is
72 enormous one ton buckets carrying loose rock back into the interior of the dredge. The Sumpter
Valley Dredge is an excellent example of a preserved object for its historical significance. An object
can consist of any physical structure with moving components that is functional, has artistic qualities,
relates to the heritage of the nation, scientific advancements, or took part in a historical event. Once
completed, only then can objects be eligible for preservation. Unlike objects, buildings have slightly
different guidelines to meet for historical preservation. When surveyed, an examination of the
structure is imperative for its involvement with historical events and people such as in the case with
the preservation of Saint John s Church in Richmond, Virginia. This site is the location where famous
Anti Federalist and historical Governor of Virginia, Patrick Henry gave his famous speech where he
exclaimed the phrase Give me Liberty or Give me Death. With the church s direct connection to the
historical event and Patrick Henry, the structure was given National Landmark

Biography Of John Singer Sargent s Life
John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as
his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and
travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent s education was somewhat
unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular
personality. Sargent s early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on
him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The
knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this
exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of the best examples of Sargent s early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his
emulation of Velázquez use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in
which Velázquez influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley
Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors
bring to mind Velázquez renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3).
Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of
Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not
generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there
was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist
movement is Sargent s compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a
prominent feature of Sargent s art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was
one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was in reaction
to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary. This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of
Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to
light, its source real or fairly

Experiment #4AA Separation and purification Scheme Amena Alkeswani, PHCC Dhanlal Murally,
PHCC September 27, 2012 Abstract: There are millions of different organic compounds. Most of them
are found in mixtures and in order to achieve a pure form they need to be separated, isolated, and
purified. However, there are endless numbers of possible mixtures, which make it impossible to have a
pre designed procedure for every mixture. So chemists often have to make their own procedures. The
purpose of this experiment was to prepare the student to the real world by them designing their own
procedure which will help them understand the techniques of separation and purification better. The
goal was to extract two of the components of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fair Trade And Its Effects On Society
Fair Trade
Who am I? I work around twelve to fourteen hours every single day, I make barely enough money to
survive, I work in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and I am exploited based on
the poverty I live in. I am a garment worker in a developing country. While most people would assume
that this describes slaves a long time ago, this is actually a current issue that we have a much greater
impact on than we may realize. When we purchase clothing from stores such as H M or Forever 21,
with every dollar tank top, or a cheap pair of jeans we purchase, we are encouraging this sort of
modern day slavery. The label for Fair Trade was created in 1988, and over the years, the certification
has changed rapidly and now there are a number of standards companies have to abide by to achieve
the Fair Trade label. Due to this, consumers are now guaranteed of the morality of the product
(Marcovitz page 27). The book Fair Trade describes what Fair Trade really stands for by saying, Fair
Trade displays a radical shift in trade policy by using morality instead of personal and corporate gain
as the motive in the world economy (Fair Trade page 1). This means that instead of getting wealthy
being the main goal for the entrepreneurs at the top of companies, the goal is to help workers and
make the world a more fair place. They do this by paying a living wage to their employees, giving
them contractual rights, giving them a reasonable amount of hours, and countless other of

Taking a Look at the Mexican Revolution
The Mexican revolution was an important time in the history of Mexico. It was important because
Mexico stopped the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz and they established a constitutional republic. During
that time a lot of major people were involved in establishing a good government like Francisco
Madero, Pascual Orozco, Pancho villa, and Emiliano Zapata. All of these people had a major role in
the revolution and also in changing the future of Mexico. Each and everyone one of them had an
impact as revolutionists. The Mexican revolution began November 20, 1910, but the question is why
did it start in the first place? The Mexican revolution started because of the middle class protesting
against their dictator at that time which was Porfirio Diaz (1876 1911), Diazcame into power like
many other leaders in Mexico during the nineteenth century. Diaz was a former army officer who
came into power by a coup. The whole reason why the revolution started was because Diaz was big on
modernizing and industrializing but the workers were suffering because of all the work. Diaz also
wanted to form a stronger bond with the United States and started distributing land which belonged to
farmers and lower class people in Mexico, the only way to keep your land or get it back was to have a
legal document claiming that it was yours. When people started turning on him he bullied them into
supporting him.
The Mexican revolution started in 1910 when people started to challenge and question Diaz on his

Narrative Conventions
Short stories often develop a theme in a short time frame. Their authors must do this with limited
settings and characters. The short story Killer, written by Paula Goslings, contains many themes with
the main one being deception. One of the ways the author expresses this is through the narrative
convention of style or mood. In this piece the convention of plot is also utilised by the author to
develop this idea. Characterisation is another narrative convention successfully utilised to explore this
theme. By themselves these elements are nothing, but when together, they effectively portray the
theme of deception in the fantastic short story Killer.
The narrative convention of style or mood is a major component which represents the theme ... Show

One sentence which makes the plot so confusing is, No other self respecting cat would have put up
with that dammed budgie staring and screeching at him for another single day . A second sentence
which confuses the reader is, standing, staring and pointing at a scatter of green and blue . The plot of
this story is very intriguing and this is what keeps the reader attached to the story. They have to keep
reading, they just cannot stop.
The third and final narrative convention utilised by the author to express the theme of deception in this
piece, is characterisation. Without this crucial aspect the story would be lifeless. This is what gives
characters detail and personality. If the text didn t have this convention, it would only be a plot not a
story. In Killer there are not many characters, which gives the author a long time to describe them, not
just physically but emotionally as well. The main character is depicted as a person who is secretive
and suspicious; he does not want to bring any work home with him. The story is deceiving because the
leading character which is a cat, is given human traits. A sentence which shows this is, nobody knew
his business. He kept to his routine, was always well mannered when he met one of them on the street
. Another example is, he was an expert. He had a reputation downtown where a reputation counted . A
third sentence which

  • 2. Stocks and Bonds In the financial markets, the most common forms of marketable securities are stocks and bonds. Though they have some similarities to each other, they differ greatly in many aspects. Broadly speaking, both financial instruments enable one to invest in corporations, public and/or private, with possible profitable returns in the future. Stocks (or shares), by definition, are shares of ownership in a company. By purchasing stocks in a company, the investor becomes a part owner, and thereby owns a percentage share of the company s after tax profits. Stocks/shares have two key characteristics: 1) they can be issued in small denominations: an investor can purchase as many or as few shares in a company as he/ she wants, thereby becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stocks were rising on expectations of economic recovery later in the year, and bond prices fell as their yields increased (bond prices and yields are inversely related). The yield on the 2 year notes and 10 year notes, which are heavily influenced by the Fed regulated interest rates and inflation expectations, respectively, increased from .76% to 1.4% and 2.25% to 3.93 during the same period, respectively. Concurrently, the S P 500 had gained 4.8%, rebounding 40% from March lows. Though stocks have statistically delivered higher returns in the long term compared to bonds, bond prices are less volatile. The dividends paid out on stocks are uncertain and depend on the distributable profits of the company, the company s investment plans and cash needs for the same, and other such factors. On the other hand, bonds generally make a pre specified interest payout to all bondholders periodically, thereby ensuring an assured, known cash inflow in the hands of a bond holder. Further, on maturity of the bond, a pre determined principal amount is paid out by the issuer to the bondholder, to purchase back the bond. Hence, a bondholder who holds the bond to maturity, knows exactly how much he /she will receive both by way of interest as well as principal on maturity. This is completely untrue for stocks, where neither the dividend flow nor the capital appreciation is predictable with certainty. Bonds are therefore relatively safer ... These rites of passage are the beginning and endings of a particular stage of your life such as, birth, adulthood, marriage and death. One of the most important rites of passage that many of us experience and will always remember vividly is the rite of passage to adulthood. Different cultures have different ways to celebrate the transitioning process; the age range varies as well as different the events to overcome in order to complete the rite of passage. A girl in this stage can no longer be treated as a child; she is rather gains recognition as an adult. Additionally, graduation from high school is also generally recognized as a passage from childhood into adulthood in the American culture. Students graduating from high school are seen as adults. They are ready to start making major decisions about what they want out of life. Attention of rite of passage was mainly focused on puberty in many cultures. • 4. An Explanation of the British s Stuggles to Finance the... The article written by Javier Cuenca Esteban, The British balance of payments, 1772 1820: India transfers and war finance focuses on the British ability to finance the wars with Napoleonic France. Esteban challenges the academic state of debate regarding the importance of exports on British Industrialization by pointing out that he believes without the exports from India, Britain would have struggled to finance her wars with France and may have never become the incubator of Industrialization. His argument comes back to the numbers he presents projecting the gap between foreign indebtedness actual and counterfactual would increase from 1802 to 1815 by over ninety million British pound sterling. The significant increase in debt was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Esteban sets the value of his calculations by creating an average of pre existing calculations for the earliest time frame of 1772 1775 of net British debts. He relies mainly on figures derived from Walter Nash and Albert H. Imlah, both of which are Economic British Historians. The author then begins to advance each line according to their own specific histories. For instance he takes into account the raise of tariffs on certain products such as tobacco that would affect the quantity of illegal imports, thus affecting the real credit value. The author also goes into great detail to compensate for the stated inaccuracies of some numbers, by showing how numbers counter balance one another to give an accurate final account of net credits. In the appendix he goes into great depth to explain each category as well as giving a price evidence for numerous specific commodities traded between Britain and India during this time period. Esteban concludes with acknowledging the weaker values for some of the credits. He makes it clear the entire process of the time period moving from mercantilism to industrialization within the time frame and the wars with France created extremely complex range of scenarios to explain the balance of payments. He points out research in the areas of wealthy immigrants transfers and net incomes, as well as capital flow from the British West Indies remain particularly difficult to quantify. This gap in ... • 5. The Fight Against The Minority Groups The Fight to Protect The recent political climate in this country has placed more focus on the rights of minorities. The current discourse is fierce, and it revolves around how much should be done when it comes to representing and fighting for minorities who are being discriminated against. The recent spike in hate crimes has done little to appease fears within these minority groups, and the persecution of minorities will create more problems for not just them, but for every citizen in this country. It is with that in mind that preeminent nonprofit organizations like the National Urban League have more of a responsibility now when it comes to ensuring the safety and success of the disenfranchised minority groups in the United States. Historically speaking, African Americans in this country have faced the most discrimination than any other minority group. As the history of the NUL has proven they will not hide away from this responsibility of protecting them. The NUL is a nonpartisan civil rights organization based in New York City that advocates on behalf of African Americans and against racial discrimination in the United States. Being the oldest and largest community based organization of its kind in the nation, they are the torch bearers for protecting the African American young men of this country, and they are needed now more than ever. According to Protagoras first claim on moral relativism, he states Man is the measure of all things, of the things that are, that they are, and of the things that are not, that they are not. The way something appears to me, is true to me and the way something appears to you, is true to you. Consequently, meaning there is no absolute truth. Aristotle and Plato believe that there must be an objective truth, something that is true for everyone at any given place or time. Taking an objective approach may not always be relevant, particularly in cases where it is impossible to be objective because of the relevant facts and viewpoints. • 12. Industrialization During The Late Abraham Lincoln America is the great exception where people can be born of humble origins and rise to the top to become the next Abraham Lincoln (Pettengill). However, in the Early Republic things began to change and industrialization created a huge gap between the rich and the poor and made it hard to rise to the top. Industrialization changed America from an agricultural country to one based on manufacturing goods and services. This change created advancement and expansion for the nation as a whole. Industrialization was very helpful to the economy but was an impediment for the working class, like Sam Patch. In the book, Sam Patch by Paul E. Johnson, it is evident how industrialization restricted the freedom of the working class and increased the great divide between the rich and the poor. The industrial revolution limited the amount of jobs available and created many unskilled labor jobs. Free labor economy made it possible for skilled workers to make money by independently selling their products. Industrial engineers found a way to build machines that were faster, more powerful, more efficient and more reliable than the human muscle. As seen in The American System of Manufacturers, Joseph Whitworth stated, the laboring class are comparatively few in number, but this is counter balanced by, and indeed may be regarded as one of the chief causes of, the eagerness with which they call in the aid of machinery in almost every department of industry (Whitworth 226) This machinery slowly ... The profession itself is advancing and with the Affordable Care Act moral, ethical and legal considerations of providing care as an advanced practice nurse have increased exponentially. Ethical standards for nurse practitioner are defined in the American Nurses Code of Ethics. Ethical standard are based largely on the individual nurse beliefs. He knew that life was complex, so that is why his poetry was difficult to understand not only for students writing research papers, but also for critics. He was the backbone of modernist poetry, who wrote mostly about darkness, despair, and depression in life. He tried and succeeded to capture the torment of the world during World War 1 and World War II (Shmoop T.S. Eliot ). Eliot s view of the human condition is evident in The Hollow Men through the issues of fear, despair, and depression. The poem starts out with a couplet. The first line talks about a man who is dead. Even when they talk amongst themselves, they amount to nothing (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis ). The narrator goes on to say that people who die see the Hollow Men before they pass onto death s other kingdom. What do the dead people pass over? The dead people pass over the river Styx, which in greek mythology is the pathway you must cross in order to go to Heaven or Hell (Shmoop The Hollow Men Analysis ). He makes a point to say that the Hollow Men are not lost as violent souls. Why do the Hollow Men stay around the area where people cross from life to the afterlife? Time has shown, if people, investors, and businesses stop purchasing goods and services, the economy will relapse. The theory of consumer choice can affect three different areas such as, Demand curve, Higher wages, and Higher interest rates. Since the theory affect these areas, consumers can governor its variations. What makes a consumer s choice the goods or services over another? There are several factors that can inspire alteration in those areas for example price, availability, social responsibility of the company, convenience, enjoyment, familiarity. These factors that can affect consumer s choice. When the consumers decide to purchase a good, they have considered several different aspects of it. Normally when the prices are low, consumer s demand will increase in buying the good. Though price is the dominating contributing factor of consumer s choice, they also considered all aspects, before making a purchase. The demand curve starts to shift to the right; it represents the product is becoming more in demand. If the prices are the low but the demand is not increasing for quality as an issue, it will shift to the left on the demand curve. There are some consumers who want cheaply made goods this will only effective if that demand was in demand. Consumer also influence the supply of a good. If the demand is high enough to create a ... An Article On The World Anti Doping Agency On June 9th, 2016, an article written by ESPN Senior Writer, Darren Rovell, was published on ESPN.com regarding Maria Sharapova s two year suspension over a positive doping test result (Rovell, 2016). Maria Sharapova, the highest paid female athlete today, announced in March 2016 that she tested positive for taking meldonium, a banned substance that was recently added to the World Anti Doping Agency s (WADA) prohibited substance list. Initially, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) suspended Sharapova for two years but after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) by the Sharapova team, the Russian tennis star s suspension was reduced to 15 months and she can return to competition in April 2017. Meldonium is a heart drug that is available for purchase over the counter in Russia. This drug is believed to help the body produce energy in a more efficient manner. Sharapova was unintentionally committing a doping violation, which is the ethical issue in this situation. She had been taking meldonium since 2006 to help her manage multiple health problems. Sharapova however, was not the only athlete that tested positive for meldonium. There were around 172 athletes in total, 40 whom were Russian that also failed a drug test for taking meldonium. This affected Russia s attendance in the Rio Olympic Games as a number of athletes were banned from participating in the Games for their meldonium intake. Most of us are aware that breastfeeding is the most natural way of providing infants with the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. Breastfeeding to a lot of mothers is the time of bonding between themselves and child. Disagreement arises when nursing mothers decide to perform feedings in public areas. Then we have the groups of people that view breastfeeding in public places as indecent and offensive. In an article about current breastfeeding laws the authors state that currently, the majority of the US states have legislation permitting women to breastfeed in any location and exempting breastfeeding from indecency laws (Nguyen,Hawkins). I don t think the issue is with breastfeeding itself. What may actually be the problem with the whole breastfeeding in public debate would have to be the action of breastfeeding, the locations where the mothers choose to breastfeed and sometimes age of child being breastfeed. Public breastfeeding can be a very touchy topic with strong feelings on both sides of the debate. After considering both sides of the issue, breastfeeding in public areas should not be done. People claim that the actual problem they have with breastfeeding is the action of breast feeding. The main reason for that initial awkwardness is probably the taboo against showing one s breasts around other people without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is 12 years longer than the riprap and will therefore cost that much less when taking all costs into consideration. Due to its robust material and hydrodynamic design, the Scouring ramp is expected to have a significantly longer life span than the tradition Rip Rap approach. Our suggested material for the ramps are similar in strength and oxidation resistant properties as the high strength steel that makes up TLP tendons of deep water oil platforms. The metals used for these anchors can withstand strong ocean currents as wells as oxygen based corrosion. The life span of the ramps if made from the same grade of steel is estimated to last a minimum of 32 years. The tire mats are expected to have an extremely long life span due to rubber strength of car tires. Hence the tire mats are expected to share the same life span of the entire bridge itself. Rip rap, though it is expected to have a long life span as well, the issue of scouring taking place around the rip rap adds significant cost given that eventually, the rock pile would need to be replaced every 2 years or so. A pier that requires 50 cubic meters of rip rap would require 132 tons of concrete rubble costing nearly $300 per replacement. And to top it all off some of daniel s friends were coming along with our cousin Jodi and oldest brother nick. Even though Daniel and his friends tease me at times I still find it a lot of fun to hang out with them. Dad how much longer till we finally get to leave? I would ask my dad with urgency, not understanding at the time that asking ever couple of hours would not make the departure come any faster. Rolling his eyes my dad would answer This is the fifth time today you asked that question, we are leaving tomorrow morning . Dancing down the hall I hurry to my room that I share with Daniel. When I approached the door I could heard these terrible retching noises coming from behind the door. I peek inside the door to see Daniel with his face in the waste basket. My heart starts to sink, knowing that if Daniel is too sick to travel then we weren t going to be able to leave for this trip. Those interpretations have lately come under sustained philosophical attack by the defenders of a non moral formalist or realist interpretation of Kant. We have mentioned at the outset, the essential division for formalist and non formalist is in their understanding C1 as a formal accomplishment or not. This determination, it must be stressed, is voluntary and subjectively constructed, while the basis of the analysis, this intend to act from duty, is based on an understanding of moral law. But the industrial development from 1800 to 1860 affected the North and the South in hugely different ways. The prominent differences eventually caused an amazing amount of tension between the two regions as they moved in completely separate directions. Though the majority of Southerners didn t own slaves, slaves were used in the South to keep the revenue up, and slavery was very much a part of the agricultural lifestyle. Political tension between the North and the South started early when there was disagreement over Henry Clay s American System. The American System imposed tariffs to support northern manufacturing, federally funded roads and canals, and supported the National Bank. Northerners were in support of the American System but the South wasn t on board with the plan. This protective tariff was a tax on imports, and since the South was receiving most of the imported goods, they got the brunt of the tariff. The South believed it was unfair that it was putting money into the North s industrial economy when the South was barely making enough revenue to support itself. While the South provided the Northern industries with most of the raw materials they needed, the price the North paid for these things were nothing compared to what the South had to pay for the manufactured goods the North produced. The opposition to the American System was so strong that South Carolina declared the tariffs void and threatened to leave the Union. But Andrew Jackson worked with South Carolina and the Union remained whole. This was the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The two regions clashed politically too. While the North became generally ... Cold Water Immersion (CWI) is a form of recovery cryotherapy that involves submersing an individual s affected limb or extremities into water that is less than that of body temperature. Because the terminals are not constrained by size or power consumption, they can be equipped with a transmitter that can reach the base, without depending on another terminal for a relay or retransmission. Next, in the model networks, is the cellular network, consisting of both stationary and mobile sensor nodes. The stationary sensor node, or base, receives the data form the mobile sensor nodes, and relays it to some fixed network via a wired backbone. The mobile sensor nodes outnumber the base by a factor of at least a hundred, and are located randomly. Yet the only issue they have with organization is encountered in terms of cell to cell or as they re called, handoffs , as the mobile sensor node moves from the range of one base station to another. In some cases, people are objectified as a result of being needed, desired, and treated unfairly. In The Veldt, The Truman Show, and Flowers for Algernon, an overreliance on items leads to a loss of focus on morals and what is ethically important. In Bradbury s The Veldt, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, lose a sense of right and wrong because their reliance on technology distracts them from their morals. The children lose compassion and understanding for others, engage in violence towards their parents, and make hurtful and unethical comments towards family members. Their overreliance on technology distances them from being able to work and provide for themselves. As Mr. Hadley tries and fails to seperate the children from technology, the kids refuse to cooperate. Peter remembers how he didn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Metacarpi Reflection The screenplay Metacarpi is the story of an institutionalized pianist and a lion aspiring friend whose pursuit of freedom explores ideas of whether we might be happier in an institution if it allows us to truly be ourselves. When coming up with the story for the script, I first created the character of Dmitriy and the story grew out of his character. A simple characterization of Dmitriy is a man struggling to free himself, whose aura of grandeur and potential for greatness is lost on his environment. Out of this came the idea of an institutionalized pianist who wants to perform the perfect performance. As the story grew I added the characters of Sonja, the sister who desperately wants to get her brother out of the institution, Berta the nun who is the cause of Dmitriy s daily irritation due to her ... An example of this would be that at no point in the script does George verbally express that he wants to dress up as or be a lion, he just does it without talking about it. Instead of explaining it or mentioning it in dialogue, we have the visual images of George with the lion s mane, George with the painted on whiskers, and George with the permanently attached stuffed lion tail. The visual suffices to suggest to the audience that George enjoys dressing up as a lion. The visual was crucial for the portrayal of Dmitriy s character. I found visual detail allowed me to reveal more about Dmitriy than the dialogue could. It was also served to represent his journey. The fragile gaunt Dmitriy in the brocade dressing gown with the bloodied knuckles, barefoot, who becomes the beaming, tailcoat clad, barefoot Dmitriy. The self isolating Dmitriy who observes his sister through a window rather than meeting with her, who becomes the embracing brother. Sasson wrote a true event story about a Saudi Arabian princess. It was about Sultana s own life story and the whole book is in her point of view. To protect her identity she had to change names and obviously not explicit hers. It s a nonfiction story of the outrage that is forced upon women throughout Saudi Arabia even today, a story that leaves readers praying for change before it is too late for the next generation of girls growing up in Saudi Arabia. This story is quite scary and very unbelievable how women around the world are being treated. Even though Arabians have a very different point of view of religion and marriage it s really all sexist and very sad what women have to go through, no matter rich or poor. Sultana is an actual princess living the rich more successful life than others in Saudi Arabia. She grew up in a luxury mansion since her dad came from a royal family closely related to a King. She literally has four mansions on three continents, has her very own private jet, different types of jewels and designer dresses. But in reality she s not happy with all she has because she s living like a slave in her own gilded cage with absolutely no time of freedom. She can t ever leave the house, she has no control over her own life and no value. Behind her veil she is more like a prisoner jailed by her own dad, husband, as well as her ... • 42. Gentrification Of Gentrification And Labor Markets Introduction The study of urban spaces, especially with respect to gentrification, has increased dramatically in significance and relevance in the past several decades. With the resurgence of city living s popularity, urban revitalization has occurred in neighborhoods across the United States and brought with it significant economic and social change. Gentrification is known as a process of moving in wealthier residents and thereby increasing property values. From this, many conclude that it constitutes neighborhood revitalization insofar as it improves the economic value of the area. Therefore, a major consequence of this revitalization is that it often displaces low income residents and small businesses (Zukin, 2010). Though much research and discourse exist to examine the plights of these residents and firms, a frequently overlooked subject is gentrification s ability to displace labor from an economic standpoint. This review will primarily demonstrate that the limited research on gentrification and labor markets has concluded that a relationship between the two does seem to exist. In particular, the literature has shown that gentrification may negatively impact the manufacturing sector of the labor market, which has negative implications for urban economies. The review will also summarize the consensus reached by the scholars in the field, and it will identify the trends observed in their research. Finally, it will assess the gaps in the literature, and seek to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Farley Mowats The Role Of Wolves In The Wild About a century ago, a man by the name of Farley Mowat was sent to the frozen wilderness of Canada to examine the actions of wolves and how their survival affects the plummeting of the caribou herds. While studying a pack of seven, he acquired a deep feeling of admiration for this certain pack of wolves. Almost halfway through the novel, Mowat gives each of the three adults a name that goes along with their role in the family. While living near a pack of seven wolves, Mowat soon realizes that they are not at fault for the decline in caribou society, as a matter of fact, they are doing quite the opposite. There is something far more powerful than wolves harming the population. Human kind itself is destroying the community of our nature. I kept coming up with the fantastic figure of 112,000 animals killed by trappers in this area every year (Page 86). With all the hunters and trappers in Keewatin, the population of most animals are immensely falling downward. An object can consist of any physical structure with moving components that is functional, has artistic qualities, relates to the heritage of the nation, scientific advancements, or took part in a historical event. Once completed, only then can objects be eligible for preservation. Unlike objects, buildings have slightly different guidelines to meet for historical preservation. Biography Of John Singer Sargent s Life John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent s education was somewhat unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular personality. Sargent s early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the best examples of Sargent s early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his emulation of Velázquez use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in which Velázquez influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors bring to mind Velázquez renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3). Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist movement is Sargent s compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a prominent feature of Sargent s art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was in reaction to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary. This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to light, its source real or fairly ... However, there are endless numbers of possible mixtures, which make it impossible to have a pre designed procedure for every mixture. So chemists often have to make their own procedures. I work around twelve to fourteen hours every single day, I make barely enough money to survive, I work in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and I am exploited based on the poverty I live in. I am a garment worker in a developing country. While most people would assume that this describes slaves a long time ago, this is actually a current issue that we have a much greater impact on than we may realize. When we purchase clothing from stores such as H M or Forever 21, with every dollar tank top, or a cheap pair of jeans we purchase, we are encouraging this sort of modern day slavery. The label for Fair Trade was created in 1988, and over the years, the certification has changed rapidly and now there are a number of standards companies have to abide by to achieve the Fair Trade label. Due to this, consumers are now guaranteed of the morality of the product (Marcovitz page 27). It was important because Mexico stopped the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz and they established a constitutional republic. During that time a lot of major people were involved in establishing a good government like Francisco Madero, Pascual Orozco, Pancho villa, and Emiliano Zapata. All of these people had a major role in the revolution and also in changing the future of Mexico. Each and everyone one of them had an impact as revolutionists. The Mexican revolution began November 20, 1910, but the question is why did it start in the first place? The Mexican revolution started because of the middle class protesting against their dictator at that time which was Porfirio Diaz (1876 1911), Diazcame into power like many other leaders in Mexico during the nineteenth century. Diaz was a former army officer who came into power by a coup. The whole reason why the revolution started was because Diaz was big on modernizing and industrializing but the workers were suffering because of all the work. Diaz also wanted to form a stronger bond with the United States and started distributing land which belonged to farmers and lower class people in Mexico, the only way to keep your land or get it back was to have a legal document claiming that it was yours.
