My Goals For A Social Worker
I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high
school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age.
Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the
Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home,
when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same
way the social workers do.
My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance
package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I
earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social
Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few
semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the
clients that are in need.
Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having
the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe
environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I
enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been so close to being homeless it
scared me so much. Helping the homeless, homeless veterans,

2016 Primary Election And Presidential Election Essay
The 2016 primary election has been the most intriguing in modern history, mainly due to one
candidate; Donald J. Trump. Before he won the general election, President elect Donald J. Trump won
the Republican primary. Since the day he announced his candidacy by riding down an escalator in
Trump Tower, pundits and politicians didn t seriously believe he had a chance. As the debates were
held and the primaries went on, it became apparent that he had an actual chance of winning the
nomination. The Republican primary showed that there was an anger toward traditional politicians, an
anger which Donald Trump tapped into. The rise of Trump also showed that the old rules of what was
acceptable to say do not apply any more. These and other factors lead me to the conclusion that the
Republican party lost control of the 2016 primary election and failed to choose its eventual nominee.
To understand how the GOP failed to select its candidate, we should first understand the
circumstances leading up to the 2016 primary. In the 1990 s the North American Free Trade
Agreement (NAFTA) and other free trade deals dealt a blow to US manufacturing. People that worked
in manufacturing lost their jobs, in addition to those in the steel and coal industries . These factors
affected the area known as the Rust Belt especially hard. In politics, for decades, politicians learned
that to get votes, they must act very polished and speak like a politician. Both Democrats and
Republicans were generally

North American Craton Research Papers
North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent,
makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to the
earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of years
ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction zones,
slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to their
size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin
gradually growing outward over time with the addition of new material via subduction, sedimentation,
and continental collision. The center of the North American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still
located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of
shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually formed
into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform were later
shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions in which they
became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of groundwater slowly
dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on earth with over 346
miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places like the Carlsbad
Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as karst topographies. There
are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but, more predominantly at the
surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for example. The gradual uplift of the
Rocky Mountains to the West led to the formation of several sedimentary layers in this region,
beginning around ~100 million years ago. Over time river and wind processes have left the distinctive
strata of silt and shale

Why Rollover Occur
Define rollover and discuss what stage of the fire that rollover occurs. In you description make sure
you talk about what conditions must be present for rollover to occur. Rollover is when a fire or flame
front rolls across the ceiling away from the fire. This occurs when fuel and air reach their flammability
which mostly occurs several feet away from main body of the fire. This happens because there isn t
much oxygen above the thermal column of the fire searches for air further away and the combination
with the heat, fuel, air it will create a rollover. The rollover would occur in the growth or fully
developed stage of the fire. Define Flashover and discuss what stage of the fire that flashover occurs.

explosion that happens when oxygen is introduced to a room that has been introduced been depleted
of air and there are just hot gases inside. This could occur in the decay stage of the fire. The conditions
needed are oxygen levels need to be low, hot gasses need to fill the room, temperature needs to

Vaccines And Its Effects On Children
Congratulations, you vaccinated your child to protect them, you should feel proud, however, now they
are experiencing trouble breathing. Could they be experiencing adverse reactions from the vaccines?
Today, there are many vaccines, they are in such high demand that even a simple flu has a vaccine.
Vaccines are created to protect us. The main function of vaccines it to build our immune system and
fight against many bacterias. However, adverse reactions have become severe over the last couple of
years, leaving some parents with no child. Therefore, parents shouldn t be punished for not
vaccinating their children because, vaccines can cause many adverse reactions and death in children.
Vaccines are a social norm, we are taught that once your child is born they need to get vaccinated. It is
only natural for parents to want to protect their child. So why wouldn t we want to vaccinate and
protect our child? But, what if these shots that are supposed to protect us hurt your child? Children are
facing adverse reactions all over the world. According to the CDC, in the 2015 adverse reactions data
file concludes that from September 2 through October 5 there has already been 23991 adverse
reactions reported. However, some of these reported cases can be mild, that number is still extremely
high. Any child can receive an adverse reaction. Every vaccine has side effects as well. Robert
Kennedy, famous in the US politics was one of the few people who smoke up about vaccines. He

Impact of Media on the People of Pakistan
In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books,
newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet. With the explosion of
digital communication technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the question of what forms
of media should be classified as mass media has become more prominent. For example, it is
controversial whether to include cell phones, video games and computer games (such as MMORPGs)
in the definition. In the 2000s, a classification called the seven mass media became popular. In order
of introduction, they are:
1. Print (books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, etc.) from the late 15th century
2. Recordings (gramophone records, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This transmittion of mass advertising to millions of people is a form of mass communication.
Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium. Video games convey the same messages and
ideologies to all their users users. Users sometimes share the experience with each other by playing
online. Excluding the internet however, it is questionable whether players of video games are sharing
a common experience when they play the game separately. It is possible to discuss in great detail the
events of a video game with a friend you have never played with because the experience was identical
to you both. The question is if this is then a form of mass communication.
MMORPGS such as Runescape provide a common gaming experience to millions of users throughout
the globe. It is arguable that the users are receiving the same message, i.e., the game is mass
communicating the same messages to the various players.
A life without the presence of mass media would seem improbable for many! Let s read about the pros
and cons of mass media and its effect on a larger scale.
Mass media enjoys a very prominent role in our lives. There are various effects of mass media on the
society at large. Media tends to influence and it s obvious, there are positive as well as negative
influences of mass media. However, it also depends upon the way audiences perceive things. The
power of the mass media is by far recognized by everybody in terms of advertising, marketing and as

What Role Does Portia Play In Julius Caesar
How are women portrayed in a play written in the 1600 s? In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, a
playwright by William Shakespeare reenacts the murder of Julius Caesar. The female roles are
superior in moving the plot forward. The only two female characters include Portia, wife of Marcus
Brutus, and Calphurnia, wife of the noble Julius Caesar. Portia and Calphurnia inform the viewers
understanding of their role in the play. The female characters inform the readers understanding about

The Importance Of Spanking Children
It is a good idea to spank your children yes, I think that it is a great idea. Today in this generation
parents do not like to say no to their kids and they get whatever they want. This is a big problem with
children running their parents today and the parents are not saying no or disciplining them. I believe
that kids today should be spanked. Many kids today do not have any respect for anyone like adults,
teachers, and their grandparents. In this generation parents do not like to spank or discipline their
children. They don t like doing this because they think it could hurt their children if they do so. When
a child does something wrong they act a certain way, and get into trouble they should get spank for
what they did. When a child gets into trouble they should be spanked for it because it teaches great life
skills when it comes to it. With spanking there are many lessons when it comes to it. When I was
growing up I got spanked if I did something wrong. After I got spanked I never did that thing again
that I did to get spanked again. I have learned a lot of life lessons when it comes to spanking. I have
become a great respectful adult because I was spanked growing up. Today I repst everyone that I meet
today because of the lessons I was taught. There are lessons when it comes to spanking your children.

Difference Between Foucault And Barthes
background in assessing the author on the other hand, which he considered tyrannical . According to
Barthes statement from the essay History or Literature? in on Racine, proves the above mentioned
argument, in which he initially assumed that text is a grave of author when text came out, then the
reader was born which is also stated in the the Death of the Author , then Barthes criticised that old
critic considered author genius meaning that the creator is so sophisticated. He also signified another
fact about classic thinkers that they disregarded the history of the writer which left nothing to the
writer since history shaped gracious literary aspect of the writer, if they are emptied from them, then

Foucault s essay tended to dismiss the author from his position with respect to analyse the texts while
Barthes granted all the interpretative responsibly to the reader. Both theorists apprehended the notion
of author has no authority in directing the interpretation of their writings. Foucault, in his essay What
Is an Author? argues that the critics should not evaluate the text in relation with its author, instead,
they should analyse the text itself in the light of the its structure, basic form and its design
architecture. His brief description of author is just a discursive person. Foucault commented on
himself in his essay for being focused on a specific subject, he justifies that it is not because they were
interesting to him but because the subject may have something to do his personal life. He affirms that
his experience with the things that surround him would help him better recognize or understand them
when he does any theoretical work (Mills, 11). Foucault interlinks author and work , in way that
author s text is counted as his work thus he argues that if author is

The Time Machine, And The Machine Stops By. Forster
Projections that have been made about how today s society and culture will look in the coming years,
decades, and centuries, all have yet to be seen in how valid they are. If you look in any sort of media:
television, social media, or radio/music, you will see people giving their interpretations of what will
become of our world down the road. Yet, few people look to see how our the current state of culture
and society reflect the projections made by people in previous years, decades, and centuries. In
looking at the visions of the future presented by both novelas, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, and
The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster, each story presents aspects of society that prominently appear
today. Written during the Industrial Revolution, a time where technology and human innovation was at
one of its highest points in recent history, both stories explore the possible effects of the machinery
that was becoming evermore present. Both authors present aspects such as omnipotent technology,
decaying human independence, and destruction of real communication, to create the artistic statement
that complacency is rising within the human race, and that complacency will eventually lead to the fall
of mankind. In both stories, the authors speak against human complacency and deference to
technology, warning that it will lead to the creation of weaker people and society that will ultimately
destroy the human race, yet that complacency is present in today s culture and due to the

Star Basketball Player By John Updike
In the poem Ex Basketball Player, John Updike recounts the timeline of a once great basketball player
named Flick Webb. The journey starts with a description of Flick s hometown, then shares details
about his current job, next it reflects on his high school basketball success, and finishes with his habits
outside of work. In the first stanza, the poet is describing the town where Flick lives. Updike
references trolley tracks which would imply an early 20th century setting. He also calls out the name
of the garage specifically, Berth s Garage. This implies that Flick lives in a small town because small
towns named their gas stations after the owner, unlike big cities. In the third stanza, he talks about
Flick playing high school basketball. Updike goes on to mention that in one season he scored three
hundred and ninety points, a county record. The third stanza talks about how magnificent Flick was at
basketball. The narrator indicates that he witnessed at least one such game when he noted, I saw him
rack up thirty eight or forty in one home game (Updike, 17 18). The countermotion of the poem
occurs in the fourth stanza, which starts out by stating, He never learned a trade, he just sells gas (19).
In this line of the poem, Updike reveals the tone of the narrator as sad and disappointed. With no
education to fall back on, when a professional basketball career does not come about, Flick spends his
life working at a gas station. The former player s current life is described

Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity
A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States
has more than tripled since the 1970s ( Healthy Schools. ). Childhood obesity is a medical condition
that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very common today,
having about 3 million cases per year ( Healthy Schools. ). A sign that a child is suffering from obesity
is when their weight is well above the average for a child s height and age. Today about one in five
school children, ages 6 19, are obese ( Healthy Schools. ). I will be addressing the causes, health
complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students. First and foremost, the most
common causes of childhood obesity are genetic factors, overeating, and not exercising enough.
Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a child will be obese or not (
Obesity in Children ). If a child who comes from a family of obesity, happens to become overweight
like them, the likely cause is due to bad eating and activity habits. Many children today spend more
time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than being active outdoors ( Obesity in
Children ). This is due to the recent popularity of having electronics such as television, games, and
phones serve as entertainment. Another reason for the excessive eating is because parents are often too
busy to cook healthy foods on a regular basis, leaving children to rely on fast food or

Social Institutions Essay examples
The Military Social Institution is one of the three Primary Social Institutions. The military was
initially established to help protect, as well as unify a country, but since it s development, it s done so
plus more. The Military as a social institution has led to domination and conquering of sorts, while
trying to balance morals and justifications. Since the military is run by the government, it can be
assumed that not only does this institution try to control and rationalize, but also continue to boil over
into much of the other institutions.
The Economic Social Institution is another one of the three Primary Institutions. The hold that the

The Family Social Institution is a Secondary Institution. Because of Family Life being much a part of
today s society and also a way of living, it can be said that this type of lifestyle is undoubtedly a
reason for planning right. Society created a norm when dealing with adult life. It is considered normal
to have a family and a home when you arrive at a particular stage in your life. Much of what we live
for is that very lifestyle, and much of our dedication is to have a Family . That is why in our society,
we see billboards advertising vacations with The Family , or certain cars that the whole Family will
enjoy. The Families place within the social structure is there due to involvement in our everyday life,
and the experiences we sometimes take for granted.
The Educational Social Institution is a Secondary Social Institution. Education in our society is
mandatory in order for growth and understanding. When looking at education and society from a
distance, you can see the correlation between the two. As a particular society grows, you will notice
the intellect grow, or vice versa. Society is always in need of wealth and maturity, but without the
education through learning and teaching, there would be a standstill or decline in both the two. We
seem to forget how much we (society) can build upon ourselves, by educating each other. Every
institution relies on each other; therefore the

American Born Chinese Assimilation
The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by
David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans.
These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they
are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These
stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does
more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity.

It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3). Linh is forced into a new

his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes for her to leave her old identity behind and

of any identity. This is reflected in her life in one of the movies she watches. The film cuts off before

Hunger In Africa
Our planet right now is not in a good shape. There is a lot of problems going on and a lot of them
there is nothing that we can do about it. But one that we can actually do something about is world
hunger. This problem has existed since the beginning of our society and not a lot have changed since.
There is enough for everyone in the world and we don t do anything about it. Everyone knows about
world hunger, especially in Africa where this problem is the biggest one they got. The problem is that
people don t do enough to change the sitatution. They think givng money once or twice a year is
enough, but in reality it s not. If it was, this problem would not even be discussed anymore. The
problem is ignorance. Just for an exemple, Twitter has now polls that everyone can answer. An

At the momment only organisations do something to counter it and it is not enough. Goverments could
start informing the population on what is happening everywhere and what they can do about it. They

For exemple, if everyone in Canada gave one dollar to the cause, more than 35 millions would be
raised and that is a lot. So just imagine if everyone in the world that could give one dollar actually
give one dollar to the cause. Therefore, if everyone gave a little bit of their money, there wouldn t be
any problems and if the goverments informed us more about problems too.
So, even if evryone could have some we don t do it because we our society either doesn t know
enough about the subject and our goverments don t do anything to counter world hunger. Problems
like this one should be a wake up call to our society. We should understand after that we are not alone
and that some people need more that we do ourselves. We need to make a change and really

Summary Of The Fall Of The House Of Usher
Ashanti Bennett
Dr. Amy Hudock
ENG 102
9 November 2014
Gullah Superstitions: The Fall of the House of Usher
Superstitions are a mysterious part of any culture, and those mysteries greatly influence mysterious
writers. Edgar Allen Poe, one of the most famous mysterious authors, use the many mysterious
encounters he faced as an asset for his short stories. A major influence was his time in Charleston,
South Carolina, where he learned of the many superstitions and rituals of both the blacks and the
whites of the area. His interests in horrific rituals like premature burials and zombication (which
mainly involves voodoo, familiar to the Lowcountry Gullah culture) helped him to write horrific short
stories, like The Fall of the House of Usher. Poe s gory and eerie setting of the house itself and the off
putting characteristics of the Usher siblings expressed Poe s knowledge of paranoia and interest of the
living dead, which comes in the weird rituals of the Gullah culture.
Background
When Poe arrived in Charleston, he had a chance to experience plenty of virtues that the area had to
offer; however I feel that his main interests were in the mysteries and superstitions of the Lowcountry.
A select few of those mysterious rituals and superstitions come from the Gullah culture. The Gullah
people derived from the West African slaves that were transported to the Charles Towne colony, and
they date back as far as the early 1700s. They became their own heritage by combining the

The documentary Unnatural Causes focuses on the high rate of tuberculosis (TB) among the native
people of the Marshall Islands, which are located in the Pacific. The TB rate in the Marshall Islands is
23 times that of the United States. TB is very contagious and affects most people who come into
contact with it because it is an airborne illness. The common symptoms of TB are a chronic cough,
chills and fevers, and it can infect other internal organs. TB is an unevenly spread disease due to
structural violence and cultural arrangements present in today s society. These unnatural causes create

In fact, if tuberculosis is reexamined from the point of view of those living in poverty, a radically
different picture emerges (Farmer, 187). He describes that rates of TB have gone down in the United
States and other wealthy countries, and is then, considered a minimal affecting disease. However,
recent history shows that TB has been re introduced and spread back into the wealthier nations
especially in their poor communities, but these countries are considering this disease as new and
emerging. Farmer states, If certain populations have long been afflicted by these disorders, why are
diseases considered new or emerging? Is it simply because they have come to affect more visible read,
more valuable persons? (Farmer, 39). Many think that this illness is new because it is finding its way
back into the rich populations. Unfortunately, TB does not get a lot of attention, as Farmer states, it
would appear that diseases predominantly afflicting the poor are unlikely to garner funding for
research and drug development unless they begin to emerge into the consciousness and space of the

implementation of a central federal government which would seek to oversee different operations in
the country along with the ratification of the constitution. Instead, they advocated that power ought to
remain within the hands of the local and state governments. Conversely, the Federalists advocated for
a stronger government that would oversee the operations of all states. They also wanted the ratification
of the existing constitution in order to help the government in managing its debts along with the
tensions that were developing in particular states. The Federalist movement was formed by Alexander
Hamilton, and it functioned as the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also provided a stronger image of America in relation to other countries in the world. The proposed
constitution also proposed the establishment of a united army, which would function to protect
America from external attacks (Schultz 126). The Anti Federalists strongly opposed the
implementation of the constitution as it relinquished some of their powers, and made them answerable
to the federal government. However, they later on supported its ratification after the Bill of Rights was
included (Schultz 126). The Bill of Rights was of great importance to them as it guaranteed that their
liberties and freedoms were still preserved despite the constitutional change. Another difference
relates to the economic differences between the supporters of both sides. The Federalists were
supported by big business interests that operated within and out of the American borders. They
considered the implementation of the constitution as a suitable step towards the government being
able to regulate the country s economy. As a result, they would be able to benefit significantly. On the
other hand, the Anti Federalist union was chiefly dominated by small rural communities and farmers,
who believed that the local government had more to offer with regards to their profits and the
establishment of a market for their goods (Schultz 127). To these farmers, the state government was

Inequality And Oppression
The aim of this essay is to address the problem of inequality and oppression through three separate
texts, The Second Sex, The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage. The Second Sex focuses on the
woman and her role compared to man. The Death of the Profane and Killing Rage are both texts that
describe experiences about the constant racism felt by blacks. To thoroughly examine these texts and
how they are related to oppression and inequality it is important to first define what each mean.
Oppression and inequality each have different definitions but they go hand in hand. Oppression is the
state of being subject to prolonged unjust treatment. While inequality is defined as lacking equality,
equality is the state of being equal especially in status, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simone de Beauvoir focuses on women and their permanent otherness, women will always be this
other . They are never the subject or absolute like man is. This constant oppression of women is
different of others, women are not a minority, they are numerically almost equal to man and yet man
has still been able to create dominance over them. Man is the superior, they are the absolute and
women are the other. Oppositely, bell hooks and Patricia Williams speak on the inequality of
minorities, specifically blacks. Racism and killing rage are heavily connected. Racism is strong and
deep; it is the phantom in the room. Killing rage is a rage that is felt after constant unjust treatment, it
is a rage that is healing. This killing rage should be viewed as a passion for freedom. I think a passion
for freedom should be the forefront change. This passion for freedom can be connected to each author.
A passion for freedom can aid in changing the permanent otherness women have faced and continue to
face. Otherness is expressed through inequalities in pay and the way women are viewed. Simone de
Beauvoir s text brought up important and relevant inequalities women and minorities face. Patricia
Williams text focusing on the inequality blacks face is relevant and important. Again a passion for
freedom from oppression and inequality should be expressed. By Patricia Williams continually

Ambroquino Lorenzetti Allegory Of Good Government
This magnificent architecture and landscaping painting of the town of Sienna and the countryside
around about in the fourteenth century and it was made by Ambrogio Lorenzetti, this painting was for
the Palazzo Pubblico ( Town Hall) of Siena. This painting haves a lot of activities going on, inside the
city and just outside the city s wall there is a landscape distance showing the beautiful side of nature.
At the right side of the painting just outside the city s wall, there is an angel holding a scroll, and
behind the left foot of the angel, projecting from the city s wall is the legendary she wolf. This

These images, painted from 1337 to 1339, were material depictions of allegoric paintings of quality in
how a city was directed. Away from, Well Governed Town and Country, there are three, less unspoiled
paintings, Allegory of Bad Government and its effects on Town and Country, and Allegory of Good
Government, Effects of Good Government. These paintings had the Gothic influence of other Sienese
artists similar to Simone Martini (1284 1344).
The Effect of the Good Government on City and Country Lifetime is situated on the extensive wall of
the room. The painting shows at the left side of the long fresco portraying the city and at the right side

Allegory is secular, and it reflects the new humanist interest in republican government. He depicts a
broad civic panorama with remarkable realism. Ambrogio was very interested at the republican

Taking a Look at the Tapeworm Diet
Individuals seeking to lose weight are constantly confronted with a variety of diets, supplements, and
weight loss products to choose from. The tapeworm diet is a quick and significant way to lose weight.
This method involves consuming parasites called tapeworms, which possibly can cause a person to
become seriously ill and can even lead to fatal complications. To follow this diet, a person ingests
tapeworms that go on to absorb some of the food that he or she eats, causing them to lose a significant
amount of weight. Doctors don t approve of this diet to be a safe and effective way to lose weight. In
fact, this diet is illegal in the United States of America. Though, you can still purchase tapeworms in
other countries or via the Internet. A person can obtain a tapeworm parasite through the ingestion of
raw meat from infected animals or by consuming the parasite in tablet form. After a person consumes
a tapeworm, traveling through the body, eating as it moves around. The tapeworm usually consumes a
significant portion of a person s food to cause a calorie shortage and weight loss. Certain tapeworms
can grow up to 15 30 feet in length and live up to 20 years in the host. When the tapeworm dieter
decides that they have lost enough weight, they take antibiotics to kill the parasite, eventually leaving
the body in a bowel movement. People have been known to take drugs designed to reduce the lifespan
of the tapeworm so that it is already dead when it is removed from the body.

Michael Dwayne Vickk
Michael Dwayne Vick was drafted first overall in the 2001 draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Vick brought
a skill set that the NFL had never seen before. He gave the quarterback a new meaning, besides just
throwing. Vick could pass with pinpoint accuracy but he could also run the ball. It was something that
was unheard of in the NFL then. He was leading the NFL in passing and rushing. He was on top of the
NFL world, and then his major flaw came into effect. His major flaw was that he got into illegal dog
fighting. He had this whole business dedicated to dog fighting. On August 27, 2007, Vick was charged
with illegal dog fighting (Aldf.org). From there, everything went downhill very quickly . In my

In this phase, the role of ODP is majorly tasked with counseling patients to reduce their nervousness.
The patient needs to be taught about deep breathing, splinting, turning and purse lip breathing
exercises which would go a long way in ensuring that the patient does not develop complications from
the surgery such as circulatory conditions, pneumonia, and other respiratory issues. The main
precautions that take place in this phase include obtaining informed consent from the patient. The
surgeon should be present in this phase to answer questions about any concerns the patient may have
on the surgery. This will also help in reducing the patient s anxiety based on the information provided
by the physician. In the operative phase, effective prevention and control system within the operating
theatre is important as it helps in guaranteeing that any patient who undergoes surgery receives safe
and effective care (Porteous and Susanne 50). The financial and personal consequences that would
come from hospital acquired infections are rather enormous and thus healthcare practitioner work to
limit the likelihood of their occurrences within the operating theatre (Haugen 279). The theatre
practitioner must minimize the chances of the risks occurring during surgery and giving the patient the
professional and efficient care that they require by following infection control procedures (McKean

Analysis of Anne W Brigman s Painting The Heart of the...
The Heart of the Storm The Heart of the Storm, was completed in 1902, by Anne W. Brigman, and
was given to the Getty Museum as a gift Michael and Jane Wilson Collection. This artwork has a
broad range of meaning, and may indicate storms just about anywhere in the world.
The Heart of the Storm evokes a feeling of impending damage and most people can understand that
feeling regardless of where they live. Those who live in the Southern states, along the Gulf of Mexico,
may particularly be subject to hurricanes, tropical storms and tornadoes if they live in rural areas.
People who live on the Eastern seaboard are also prone to experiencing these types of storms, but to a
lesser degree. Anne
Brigman s painting is universal because almost everyone has experienced some type of
storm at some point in their lives.
Because of the universality of this type of work, it is hard to pin point exactly what location this
painting depicts. It seems to be of biblical nature, as both people in the painting are scantily clad. The
garb that both people are wearing, would remind you of paintings often displayed in the Bible. You
can see it is a man and a woman, very likely lovers or husband and wife and they are clinging to one
another outdoors. The clouds are not their typical white, fluffy shape as you would see on a sunny day.
They are dark, low hanging and ominous, as usual whenever a storm hits.
The visual elements are very subtle and the black clouds

David Wiesner s Wordless Picture Books Essay
David Wiesner s Wordless Picture Books
David Wiesner is a very artistic author. His love for art is portrayed through his style of work. When
flipping through the pages of his books, the reader is immediately drawn to the pictures. A particular
style the Wiesner is known for is wordless picture books. A wordless picture book is exactly what it
says; it is a book containing only pictures. A wordless picture book is a very personal experience for
the reader (Amazon.com). A child can benefit tremendously from this style of book. Wordless picture
books stimulate creativity and language, while at the same time introducing a child to basic principles
of books and reading.

There is not one correct interpretation, which allows children to be as creative as they want to be.
Language can also be developed through this style of writing. Without words on the page, it is up to
the reader to decide what is being said. The reader is given the chance to verbally add his or her own
words. This tremendously helps with language and vocabulary. The reader begins to create thought
that have a beginning and an end. One is able to enhance their vocabulary by seeing things that they
may not have seen before.
Through a wordless picture book, a child is introduced to the basic principles of a book. One of these
principles is the way in which books are read. Wordless picture books ...can accustom them to the left
to right pattern of reading... (Sutherland 84). The reader reads the pictures from the left page to the
right. In Sector 7, many of the pages have multiple pictures on them. The successive pictures are
stacked on top of each other. This may help the child learn that he or she is to read from top to bottom,
along with left to right.
The sequence of pictures throughout the book is also important. This allows children to learn that
books have story lines. The reader learns that every story has a beginning or introduction. Each picture
builds upon the last and are all connected. The reader is able to relate each

EU Case Study
The uncertainty surrounding how the United Kingdom (UK) will exit the European Union (EU) has
significantly impacted the business operations of all firms within the financial services sector who
operate within the EU Market. This can be seen through the recent actions of the larger multinational
banks, as many are alleged to be already be planning to relocate jobs outside of the UK while also
developing corporate operations in other EU nations (Barbaglia, 2017; Callanan Sidders, 2017; Martin
Finch, 2017; Treanor, 2017). There are fears amongst British financial services firms that a
particularly harsh exit could see the UK be forced to operate under third country status, which could
place significant restrictions upon how these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is primarily because of two reasons. Firstly, once outside the EU, a financial services firm based
in the UK would have to apply for a license for each EU nation (BBA, 2017). However, this can be
difficult as licenses are not available in multiple EU nations, and the licenses given are only limited to
one country at a time (BBA, 2017). Secondly, since no nations outside Europe have equivalent
provisions within their FTAs with the EU, many financial services firms from non EEA nations have
accessed the SEM through the UK (HM Treasury, 2016). Because of these reasons, the UK
government should attempt to re join the EFTA and EEA, as the passporting system has been extended
to cover financial services firms that are based in EEA nations (BBA, 2017). It is also argued that
joining the EFTA and EEA would be beneficial for both the UK government and their domestic
businesses, as it would help create and facilitate new jobs while also reducing the costs associated
with EU trade (Randwyck, 2011).
However, there a number of hindrances that may limit the UK and the EU in achieving a compromise
where the UK would be allowed the join the EFTA and EEA. Currently, the most relevant variable is
the general election on the 8th of June and the different stances held by the

Identity And Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night and Identity In the play Twelfth Night, Shakespeare delves into the concept of personal
identity through his exploration of the character Viola. After discovering that her twin brother is dead
following a shipwreck, Viola decides to reshape her identity in Illyria. Hiding her maiden clothes with
the sea captain, Viola takes on the name Cesario. It is important to note, Viola did not mime her twin
brother Sebastian, but instead formed her own male identity. As Viola makes new acquaintances as
Cesario, she alludes to the trickery in her appearance, I am not that I play (1.5. 175). Viola controls her
own identity and since she knows that biologically she is not a man, she can hint at her biological
identity accordingly. She shapes her identity by deciding how she wants others to view her. When
Olivia, the countess in the play, asks Viola What are you? (I.5. 204), Viola responds What I am, and
what I would, are as secret as maidenhead (I.5. 207 08). Again, Viola admits to her fraudulent identity
and that she is not what her appearance portrays her to be. Regardless of what Viola says, however, the
other characters do not recognize her chicanery. Other s perspectives also influence the concept of
forming one s personal identity. Viola may refer that she is not who she is, but the other characters in
the play have already shaped their perspectives of her. For example, to Olivia, Viola is the man she is
starting to adore. Olivia does not detect Viola s tricks because Viola is clothed as a man and so, from
her appearance, she must be one. The shaping of identity by appearance and perspective only proves
to be misleading when Viola s brother Sebastian enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Viola, Sebastian
survived the shipwreck and is now in Illyria. As Sebastian adjusts to this new land, other characters
confuse him as Viola. It is not until the two twin are on stage together that the Duke addresses the
concept of identity and perspective, One face, one voice, one habit, and two persons a natural
perspective that is and is not (V.1. 211). Before seeing the two twins together, the characters in the
play saw Viola and Sebastian as one person, Cesario. They looked alike in appearance and could pass

Fatty Acid Is Good For Human Health
fatty acid, which has excellent nutritive value. There are other substances in insects that are good for
human health; for example, antibacterial protein and peptide, enzymes and hormones. Certain insects
constitute superior health food. As a nutritional resource, edible insects and their industrialization
should be focused on in future studies.
4.1.1 Protein and amino acids
Protein is the basis of all organism activity and constitutes numerous essential materials such as
enzymes, hormones and hemoglobin. It is a principal constituent of antibodies as it bolsters the
immunity role of the body. It is the only material that produces nitrogen for maintaining acid and
alkali balance, transforming genetic information and transporting essential materials in the human
body. It can also supply energy due to its ability to produce heat. Insect bodies are rich in protein and
the proportion are higher than that of most plants; the protein content of several insects is higher than
that of commercial meat, poultry fowls and eggs. It is composed of more than 20 types of amino acids
that benefit the human body; among which eight are necessary for human nutrition as they cannot be
synthesized in the body (Jin 1987).

and protecting various organs in the body. Fat can also aid in the absorption of vitamins.

What Links Disciplines Of Literature, Philosophy And...
What links the disciplines of literature, philosophy and mathematics? The answer is, quite simply,
fiction. Fiction has probably existed since the human brain was capable of imagination, either for
distraction or for the more functional purpose of envisioning hunt scenarios when our nomadic
ancestors would need to survive. Fiction can be defined as a literary tool that fools readers or theatre
goers into thinking that the author possesses certain knowledge about the world (Plato et al., 1963) but
is usually understood as a world or scenario that is created by human imagination. However, that
doesn t necessarily make it untrue, as fiction can be based on reality and can become a useful
mechanism to convey important messages and help shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Numbers and equations simply to not concretely exist in our world. Maths is, after all, like any written
language, glorified scribbling that somehow resonates with meaning in our minds. Take as an example
4 = 2 + 2 . This string of symbols translates itself into what we understand is an equation: the two
sides of the = sign are the same. However, neither 4 not 2 + 2 exist. They are not visually identical. Yet
somehow we accept that connecting them with the = symbol indicates that their numerical value is
equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief long enough for us to
understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This philosophical position is
called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics are purely fictional but are
still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this
position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful,
becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made language created to describe phenomena
that cannot be described in another language, how can we ascertain its precision and how much power
should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them
characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst

Characteristics Of Fidel Castro

1. Fidel Alejandro (Ruz) Castro is Cuban national iconic politician, socialist and revolutionist who had
served the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister since 1959 until 1976 and successively become the
President of the nation from 1976 until 2008. After performing as president, he appeared as the Cuban

Castro s administration, Cuba changed to be one party socialist whereby all the economy, business and
industry doings had been nationalized. Under his regime also all socialist transformations were

Lille Tisages
1. Should Lille Tissages lower the price to FF15? (Assume no intermediate prices are being
considered)
My recommendation for Lille Tissages would be to keep their prices at the current FF20 and not to
lower it back to FF15 again. While creating my analysis (which is based on the financial data in
Appendix1), I considered the following angles:
a) Profits. From profit angle, the scenario is straightforward, at any given volume, based on the
estimation from the financial director, the profit would be higher by keeping the price at FF20. In fact,
as per presented projection, FF15 will never reach BEP and won t make profit at all (in fact it makes
loss), while FF20 will always produce profit, even at the suggested very low volume (which ... Show

Likewise, there is no certainty that keeping the FF20 price will result 40% drop on the customer
volumes, especially if we consider the market conditions, also mentioned just above.
2. If the department that produces Item 345 was a profit center and if you were the manager of that
department, would it be to your financial advantage to lower the price?
No, it wouldn t. If I m the manager of a profit center, my primary goal is to create profit within the
boundaries of my department, and given the current conditions, this is not possible with FF15. So, if
the only choices are FF20 and FF15, I would stick with FF20.
However, if I really were in a real life situation, I would make the following suggestions:
a) bring down the costs and make the fabric profitable even at the price of FF15, and much more
profitable at FF20. Material, material spoilage, direct labour and direct department expenses are not
the ones I can achieve any savings, these are already as lean as possible (considering the current
equipment; the future modernisation might change this picture). Indirect department costs (the only
fixed ones) are already scaling down nicely as the production volumes are raising, so that area is again
not the one I should concentrate on. General overhead varies only very

Space Is The Biggest Mysteries Humans
Space is one of the biggest mysteries humans have ever had the chance to explore. It is massive, dark,
and difficult to get too. Seriously fighting gravity is not an easy task. For millions of years, we have
wondered what exactly is surrounding the Earth. Galileo and astronomers like him provided us with
information about our surroundings, but could not get us to them. Fast forward to 1969 and we have
come the farthest from Earth we have ever been, at the time. We reached the moon! Although the
moon may not seem that far away it way more than any car ride any of us have been on. It takes time,
force, and tons of fuel. Plus the ride to the moon involves g force. A force average humans do not
experience every day unless you are in the Air Force or ride roller coasters for a living. After our first
successful landing on the moon, we decided we wanted more information. This is where Carl Sagan,
Voyager, and the Golden Record all come together for an incredible mission.
Carl Sagan was a brilliant Astronomer and more than likely the most recognized scientists of the
1970s and 1980s. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 9, 1934. Sagan had always been
fascinated by astronomy (Moore). The older he got, the more his interest grew. He graduated high

Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville
In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their food,
as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking
water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas
(Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential
to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the
clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these
substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they
brought in. This ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad

Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be
changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive
(Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the
possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves using
plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very long time
and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the ecosystems
(Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in wetland habitats
for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses oxidants to change harmful

The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of
relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use of
multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An example
would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a deeper detail of
data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each department of the university, I
propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the case is so that every department can
manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own resources because it is on a different server
than another data mart typically. The look and feel of the Data Mart is up to that department and does
not bother the other departments Data Marts. Individual data marts can also increase response time
because there are not as many people hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up,
data mart creation is very easy to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite
keys of the table, and those keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft
Access. Depending on the analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between
student and teacher are unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database.

Symbols And Metaphors Of Oedipus The King
The story of Oedipus the King have many symbols and metaphors that can be interpreted differently
from person to person. There are many metaphors that are used as symbols in Oedipus the King,
which includes sight and blindness, self affliction, and the three way crossroad. These are the three
main symbols that were used in the story, and sight means knowledge, self affliction stems from a
sense of guilt, and the three way crossroad stands for decisions.
The symbol of vision is a big component of the story of Oedipus. There are several situations where
vision is presented in this story and it is a symbol of knowledge. The blind man that told Oedipus that
he would kill his father had knowledge about something that Oedipus did not. Although the blind man
could not visually see, he had knowledge that allowed him to see Oedipus future through a prophecy.
Oedipus had the ability to see and was warned by others and did not take the advice that was offered
by others. As a result, he cut his eyes out because of the awful things that he did.
The use of blindness and sight was a symbol that was used throughout the story. Some of the
characters lacked the ability to see, but they had the knowledge instead. Although Tiresias was blind,
he could see more about reality than most of the other characters. He was compensated for being blind
with his gift of prophecy. Oedipus has excellent vision, but is blind to the truth because he does not
accept the words of the prophet. He

Essay On Fahrenheit 451
Why shouldn t Fahrenheit 451 be banned?
Ban books or burn them? Ray Bradbury wrote his famous novel Fahrenheit 451 in 1953 fantasizing
about a world in which books were banned, and when a book was found it was burnt and destroyed.
Little did he know that his thought of books being banned could actually happen and that it would be
one of his own. Today Fahrenheit 451 is being banned and challenged in schools all across America.
How ironic that a book about books being banned is now being banned around the country. A prize
winning book by a prize winning author is now being questioned as to whether it is a good book to
teach in an English class. Though Fahrenheit 451 may contain controversial elements such as
language, discussion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is discussion of being drunk, smoking, violence, overdosing, and using God s name in vain. At
the very beginning of the book the main character, Guy Montag, comes home to find that his wife
Mildred passed out from overdosing on her sleeping pills. Though the society is said to consist of a lot
of group violence there isn t an actual scene of the violence, just description. Parents are also
challenging this book because of these things. One thing to remember is this is a dystopian fiction
book so it is all made up. Knowing the genre should allow students to not take it seriously. There are
plenty of books published that consist of way more drugs, drinking, and violence that any kid can go
get from their local library to read. If they are going to ban Fahrenheit 451 for their bad activities they
may as well start regulating books that kids get from the library.
In Fahrenheit 451 the role of a fireman is opposite of what it is today. In today s time firemen are here
to help in emergencies. They are supposed to put out fires. In Fahrenheit 451 everything is fireproof so
they aren t necessarily needed anymore. Books are banned because they are considered useless. The
firemen s new job is to burn and destroy any book found. An issue in the book is when the firemen get
a call to an old woman s house that is filled with books. She refuses to let her books burn so she starts
the fire herself and burns with the

National Survey On Drug Use And Health
Introduction
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) reported in 2008 that 13.4% of adults in the
U.S. received treatment for a mental health issue (i.e. emotional or mental problems) using services
such as inpatient, outpatient, and prescription treatments (Use of Mental Health Services, n.d.). Over
half of the adults 58.7% that identify with a serious mental illness (SMI) accessed some form of
service to seek treatment for their specified disorder (Use of Mental Health Services, n.d.). In 2011,
NSDUH documented a .2% increase 13.6% of adults utilized services for a mental health issue
(Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, n.d.). Even with an increase, there is a
lack of access to these services. One main reason is due to geographical barriers. An estimated 77% of
counties in the United States have a severe shortage of mental health providers. A majority of these
provider deprived counties are located in rural areas where most accessible providers are located in
metropolitan areas (Thomas, Konrad, Holzen, Morrissey, 2009). Major advances have taken place
within the past decade that focus on making mental health services more accessible. Part of this
advancement includes the utilization of technology to help reach underserviced areas. These locations
include rural areas and populations that are stigmatized by the use of in person mental service
interactions (Backhaus et al, 2012; Luxton, Pruitt, Osenbach, 2014; Tuerk, Yoder,

All My Sons Essay
Life is full of many hard decisions that people have to take, often on the spur of the moment. Some we
get right others turn horribly wrong. Joe Keller, the tragic hero of Arthur Miller s play All My Sons,
was no different. His whole life was dedicated to his family and their well being but all his plans were
undone by one fatally flawed decision.
The audience can relate to Joe and feel sympathy for him because he was a good man who did many
great things for his family and in the end paid the ultimate price. Towards the end of the play, Joe s
son Chris anguishes over the fatally flawed decision made by his father, thus eliciting the sympathy of
the audience. However, this is not enough to detract from the audience relating to Joe as a ... Show

Joe doesn t have many bad qualities in him the only times the audience do see such qualities is when
he speaks ill of Steve to others like when he says, I owe him a good kick in the teeth (Act 2, p47).
However, the audience knows he does not really mean these things but only says them to cover up his
fatal mistake. So we forgive Joe his mistake because as Plutarch, the Delphic priest, said almost 2000
years ago, to make no mistakes is not in the power of man and also because Joe tries to rectify his
mistake by offering to give Steve a good job when he gets out of prison and offering to help Steve s
children.
Joe has spent his life making many decisions most of which appear to have been good decisions
resulting in his family enjoying a comfortable life. The audience admires him for this. Unfortunately,
late one night Joe made a hurried decision, which he believed he could get away with. The reasons for
his decision comes to light near the end of the play, in Act 2, when he tells Chris why he made that
decision, I m a business man, a man is in business; a hundred and twenty cracked, you re out of
business, you got a process, the process don t work you re out of business; you don t know how to
operate, your stuff is no good; they close you up, they tear up your contract what the hell s it to them?

Canadian United States Foreign Policy
Canadian United States Foreign Policy, Consistent and Thriving I hypothesize that the current US
policy with Canada makes sense and is beneficial to both countries. Our current foreign policies with
Canada include, working in partnerships within, at, and away from our borders to achieve enhanced
security and accelerate the legitimate flow of people, goods, and services between our two countries.
Our relationship with Canada, I would consider to be strong. The fact that we have a very large,
extensive border between our countries, a solid relationship is almost a necessity. Eve with outr
differences with regards to boundaries and oil reserve rights, the communications between our country
are strong and I would classify the United States relationship with Canada and strong and thriving, but
ore so consistent. The relationship between the US and Canada actually thrives off of each other, for
example, Canada, absorbs 43% of U.S. exports, and half of their energy imports come from the
Western Hemisphere. (US Dept. of State 2013) With this, I would also go to say that sharing a border
with shared values and beliefs in our economic structure are key to successful foreign relations. With
strong relations with our neighboring country, we can rely on each other in times of crisis and in
peace. For example, Canada is the US s largest foreign supplier of energy, including oil, gas, uranium,
and electric power. (CIA Factbook) Without these natural resources being imported,

The Process Of Recycling Aluminum From Cans Into Potassium...
Title: The Process Of Recycling Aluminum From Cans Into Potassium Aluminum Sulfate.
Author Information: Taylor Wharton*, Colton Barr, Suyash Gupta Chem 111 section 490
Introduction: A major avenue of recycling and saving money is found in the recycling of aluminum
cans. While aluminum cans are often recycled, the process of turning the can itself into a usable alum
is not as well understood. Seeing that the process involves taking an aluminum can and utilizing heat
reductions, filtrations, and mixtures in order to end up with alum crystals helps better understand how
recycling can help save money and resources.
Materials and Methods: Using all PPE a weighing boat and a balance were used to measure out
1.1121g of pieces of aluminum can. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results and Discussion:
The creation of alum is made through four reactions. The first of these allows the aluminum to be
oxidized with the 50mL of 1.4M KOH which creates a redox reaction. This is shown in the balanced
reaction of 2Al(s)+2KOH(aq)+6H2O(l) 2KAl(OH)4(aq)+3H2(g). The next reaction comes from the
addition of the the 20mL of 6.0M sulfuric acid. This reacts in the mixture to create 3 parts of the
mixture including water, aluminum hydroxide, and potassium sulfate which is show in the balanced
reaction of 2KAl(OH)4+H2SO4(aq) 2Al(OH)3(s)+K2(SO4)3(aq)+2H2O(l). The third reaction creates
aluminum sulfate and hydrogen as shown in the balanced equation of 2Al(OH)3(s)+H2SO4(aq)
Al(SO4)3(aq)+6H2)(l). The final reaction that results in alum is found in the cooling of the third
reaction and this allows the crystals to precipitate and this is shown in the balanced reaction of
Al2(SO4)3(aq)+K2SO4(aq)+24H2O(l) 2KAl(SO4)212H2O(l). These four reactions show how the
original aluminum is able to be recycled and made into alum through addition of acids and usage of
heat and cooling to form crystals.
In converting the original 1.1121g of Aluminum can pieces used in the beginning of the process to
.0422 moles of Aluminum and alum the theoretical yield of this experiment was calculated as being
19.5544g of KAl(SO4)212H2O(l). Because the actual yield of alum created was

Intercultural Competency Paper
Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires through
birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth process may
start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is supposed to
follow, true intercultural competence evolves when behaviors are internalized and occur naturally
because they feel right (Medina López Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and difficulties are
sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural deepening (Stephenson,
2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed in a new cultural
environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and physical health issues (Li et
al., 2013).
The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature
references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to identify
any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what dimensions of
intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012; Godwin Jones, 2013).
Griffith et al. (2016), compiled a thorough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are six progressive stages of development that indicate how an individual experiences cultural
differences, carving a pathway from ethnocentrism to ethnorelativism. As such, the Developmental
Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) involves psychological measures serving as an indicator of
the degree to which an individual has the ability to navigate cultural differences (Medina López

NFPA 13 Response Paper
We have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard as well as the
2015 edition of the International Building Code (IBC) and the 2015 edition of NFPA 101, the Life
Safety Code (LSC). Our informal interpretation is that the omission of protection is not allowed but it
is allowed for very restricted applications.
The starting point is that NFPA 13 does not allow the omission of protection based on high ceilings.
Although fire modeling on sprinkler activation (DETACT) shows a very large fire (28 megawatts) is
needed to activate a sprinkler in a 100 ft ceiling, FM Global has done full scale testing that s shows
these models are excessively conservative for higher ceilings. As such, it is recognized that there is
value in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the NFPA standards do not recognize high ceilings as an issue, one must look at the codes to see
if any such allowances exist. Interestingly, the IBC allows the omission of sprinklers from the ceiling
of the atriums with ceilings greater than 55 ft (see section 404, exception No. 2). It also states this is
allowed only when the area is restricted to low fire hazard uses. These two characteristics equally
apply to the floor area for a sports arena but there are no separation requirements applicable to an
arena so there is a difference. Despite that, Section 507 Exception No. 2 of the IBC has an allowance
for omitting sprinklers for areas of indoor participant sports (that is not triggered by ceiling height).
This section addresses buildings with unlimited area. It requires sprinklers throughout the building
then provides an exception for participant sports. It is limited to buildings no more than one story
above grade plane and has exiting and fire alarm requirements. Since allowed in a building with
unlimited area, it is reasonable to apply it to a standard building. Whether or not the height limit
would still apply would depend on the AHJ. This

Environmental Policy in the European Union
1. INTRODUCTION
In last decade we can notice a trend of constant growth of environmental pollution in Europe and also
elsewhere in the world. Every year European Union produces around 2 billion tone of waste materials
and the number is getting 10% bigger every year. There is also a constant increase of carbon dioxide
emissions that are a result of increasing consumption of energy and cars. Majority of European Union
members is fighting with utmost and more and more frequent weather conditions, heat waves and
floods, that have disastrous outcomes economic and also for people. Climate changes have influence
on the environment and our everyday lives. Nineties were the most warm decade of century across the
globe.
Because of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for that was, that at that time the environmental awareness was still on a really low level
all around the world. In 1960 none of the European members had a clearly defined environmental
policy of their own. Until 1987 the environment was not a priority for European Community. Certain
environment protection laws were adopted which were supposed to release trading barriers. This laws
were intended only for individual domains radiation, vehicle gases, packaging and labeling chemicals
and so on.
Care about protecting an environment somewhat increased in seventies. In year 1972 the accelerated
activities of European Community began with four action programmes. These were based on vertical
and sectoral approach concerning ecological problems. In July 1972 the first Environmental Action
Programme (EAP) covering the period 1973 1976 was adopted at the Paris Summit of the Head of
States and Government. Basics of European Union environmental policy were that special attention
would be devoted to protection of environment in frame of economic development and improvement
of life.
In 1973 the Environment Consumer Protection Committee DGIII and the Committee on the
Environment in the European Parliament were instituted. Second Environmental action programme
followed in 1977 and

Bigger Stronger Film Summary
Bigger, Stronger, Faster a documentary on Steroids. Director Chris Bell try to relay that steroids may
not be as bad as the media may portray. Bell is able to do this by appealing to credibility, emotions and
by logic, by uses these he was able make an effective claim. In the documentary Chis Bell used many
credible sources. He was constantly talking to people who had been around and steroid and have
taking them. One instants in the documentary where he able to effectively make his claim is when,
Bell talk to Dr. Norm Fost, a doctor of medical ethics. Dr. Fost focus his studies on the effect of
performing enhancing drugs. Dr. Fost talk about how there is no documentation on the long term

Though out the documentary Chris uses emotion appeal. From Don Hootan and his son, or to his
mom. One effective emotional appeal was when he showed a clip of the athlete at a press conferences.
During the conference the athlete talks about how it not fair for him to have an asterisk by his name
because he trying to be the best he can. The athlete talks about how everyone has skeletons in their
closets. This was effective for Bell because it made the view feel bad, and maybe start to question if
steroids are really bad. Chris Bell also appeals to logic in the video. Chris uses statics about steroid
and other drugs that the view may not seem as harmful. One of the statics he uses is comparing in to
legal substance, tobacco and alcohol. Chris says in the documentary According to the CDC tobacco
kills about 435,000 Americans every year, alcohol kills about 75,000, as for anabolic steroids 3.
Theses gives Chris good logic to his claim, because it make the viewer think, why a legal suspense kill

  • 2. My Goals For A Social Worker I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age. Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home, when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same way the social workers do. My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the clients that are in need. Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been so close to being homeless it scared me so much. Helping the homeless, homeless veterans, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 2016 Primary Election And Presidential Election Essay The 2016 primary election has been the most intriguing in modern history, mainly due to one candidate; Donald J. Trump. Before he won the general election, President elect Donald J. Trump won the Republican primary. Since the day he announced his candidacy by riding down an escalator in Trump Tower, pundits and politicians didn t seriously believe he had a chance. As the debates were held and the primaries went on, it became apparent that he had an actual chance of winning the nomination. The Republican primary showed that there was an anger toward traditional politicians, an anger which Donald Trump tapped into. The rise of Trump also showed that the old rules of what was acceptable to say do not apply any more. These and other factors lead me to the conclusion that the Republican party lost control of the 2016 primary election and failed to choose its eventual nominee. To understand how the GOP failed to select its candidate, we should first understand the circumstances leading up to the 2016 primary. In the 1990 s the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and other free trade deals dealt a blow to US manufacturing. People that worked in manufacturing lost their jobs, in addition to those in the steel and coal industries . These factors affected the area known as the Rust Belt especially hard. In politics, for decades, politicians learned that to get votes, they must act very polished and speak like a politician. Both Democrats and Republicans were generally ... • 4. North American Craton Research Papers North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent, makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to the earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of years ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction zones, slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to their size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin gradually growing outward over time with the addition of new material via subduction, sedimentation, and continental collision. The center of the North American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually formed into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform were later shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions in which they became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of groundwater slowly dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on earth with over 346 miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places like the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as karst topographies. There are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but, more predominantly at the surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for example. The gradual uplift of the Rocky Mountains to the West led to the formation of several sedimentary layers in this region, beginning around ~100 million years ago. Over time river and wind processes have left the distinctive strata of silt and shale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rollover is when a fire or flame front rolls across the ceiling away from the fire. • 7. Impact of Media on the People of Pakistan In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books, newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet. With the explosion of digital communication technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the question of what forms of media should be classified as mass media has become more prominent. For example, it is controversial whether to include cell phones, video games and computer games (such as MMORPGs) in the definition. In the 2000s, a classification called the seven mass media became popular. In order of introduction, they are: 1. Print (books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, etc.) from the late 15th century 2. Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium. Video games convey the same messages and ideologies to all their users users. Users sometimes share the experience with each other by playing online. Excluding the internet however, it is questionable whether players of video games are sharing a common experience when they play the game separately. It is possible to discuss in great detail the events of a video game with a friend you have never played with because the experience was identical to you both. The question is if this is then a form of mass communication. MMORPGS such as Runescape provide a common gaming experience to millions of users throughout the globe. It is arguable that the users are receiving the same message, i.e., the game is mass communicating the same messages to the various players. A life without the presence of mass media would seem improbable for many! Let s read about the pros and cons of mass media and its effect on a larger scale. • 9. The Importance Of Spanking Children It is a good idea to spank your children yes, I think that it is a great idea. Today in this generation parents do not like to say no to their kids and they get whatever they want. This is a big problem with children running their parents today and the parents are not saying no or disciplining them. I believe that kids today should be spanked. Many kids today do not have any respect for anyone like adults, teachers, and their grandparents. In this generation parents do not like to spank or discipline their children. They don t like doing this because they think it could hurt their children if they do so. When a child does something wrong they act a certain way, and get into trouble they should get spank for what they did. When a child gets into trouble they should be spanked for it because it teaches great life skills when it comes to it. With spanking there are many lessons when it comes to it. When I was growing up I got spanked if I did something wrong. After I got spanked I never did that thing again that I did to get spanked again. I have learned a lot of life lessons when it comes to spanking. I have become a great respectful adult because I was spanked growing up. According to Barthes statement from the essay History or Literature? in on Racine, proves the above mentioned argument, in which he initially assumed that text is a grave of author when text came out, then the reader was born which is also stated in the the Death of the Author , then Barthes criticised that old critic considered author genius meaning that the creator is so sophisticated. He also signified another fact about classic thinkers that they disregarded the history of the writer which left nothing to the writer since history shaped gracious literary aspect of the writer, if they are emptied from them, then writer will stay just as sculptor which can ultimately be defined as a valueless object, the ... Foucault s essay tended to dismiss the author from his position with respect to analyse the texts while Barthes granted all the interpretative responsibly to the reader. Both theorists apprehended the notion of author has no authority in directing the interpretation of their writings. Foucault, in his essay What Is an Author? argues that the critics should not evaluate the text in relation with its author, instead, they should analyse the text itself in the light of the its structure, basic form and its design architecture. His brief description of author is just a discursive person. Foucault commented on himself in his essay for being focused on a specific subject, he justifies that it is not because they were interesting to him but because the subject may have something to do his personal life. He affirms that his experience with the things that surround him would help him better recognize or understand them when he does any theoretical work (Mills, 11). Forster Projections that have been made about how today s society and culture will look in the coming years, decades, and centuries, all have yet to be seen in how valid they are. If you look in any sort of media: television, social media, or radio/music, you will see people giving their interpretations of what will become of our world down the road. Yet, few people look to see how our the current state of culture and society reflect the projections made by people in previous years, decades, and centuries. In looking at the visions of the future presented by both novelas, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, and The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster, each story presents aspects of society that prominently appear today. Written during the Industrial Revolution, a time where technology and human innovation was at one of its highest points in recent history, both stories explore the possible effects of the machinery that was becoming evermore present. Both authors present aspects such as omnipotent technology, decaying human independence, and destruction of real communication, to create the artistic statement that complacency is rising within the human race, and that complacency will eventually lead to the fall of mankind. In both stories, the authors speak against human complacency and deference to technology, warning that it will lead to the creation of weaker people and society that will ultimately destroy the human race, yet that complacency is present in today s culture and due to the ... The And Of The United States Food from the farms and ranches that were outlying Virginia Beach and Norfolk was flowing in, and markets were opening with fresh produce, live stock was becoming available, which meant more fresh meat. Quite a bit of the produce was making its way up to Washington D.C. by train. It was touch and go for a bit for Captain O Hara and Major Luxon. There were some farms and ranches east of Hawkesbury Farm and some of the ranching and farming communities had joined forces and created their own states, with their own local governments and declared they were no longer part of the United States. Captain O Hara was notified that there was flash traffic waiting for him at the base communications center. It was only a shortwave radio, but it was better than nothing. Captain O Hara was in the middle of an inspection when his Executive Officer told him in no uncertain terms he needed to get his ass over to the communications center and read the message. He told his commander that, of course he couldn t read it, because it was classified for his eyes only, but a little bird told him it was no ordinary message and he needed to get his ass over there. The communications center was fifteen minutes from his current position. He was inspecting one of the new frigates that had been retrofitted with new diesel engines and the navigation systems replaced with something far more archaic than the high tech and sophisticated system it used to have. • 14. Star Basketball Player By John Updike In the poem Ex Basketball Player, John Updike recounts the timeline of a once great basketball player named Flick Webb. The journey starts with a description of Flick s hometown, then shares details about his current job, next it reflects on his high school basketball success, and finishes with his habits outside of work. In the first stanza, the poet is describing the town where Flick lives. Updike references trolley tracks which would imply an early 20th century setting. He also calls out the name of the garage specifically, Berth s Garage. This implies that Flick lives in a small town because small towns named their gas stations after the owner, unlike big cities. In the third stanza, he talks about Flick playing high school basketball. Updike goes on to mention that in one season he scored three hundred and ninety points, a county record. The third stanza talks about how magnificent Flick was at basketball. The narrator indicates that he witnessed at least one such game when he noted, I saw him rack up thirty eight or forty in one home game (Updike, 17 18). The countermotion of the poem occurs in the fourth stanza, which starts out by stating, He never learned a trade, he just sells gas (19). In this line of the poem, Updike reveals the tone of the narrator as sad and disappointed. With no education to fall back on, when a professional basketball career does not come about, Flick spends his life working at a gas station. The former player s current life is described ... • 15. Persuasive Essay On Childhood Obesity A Deeper Look into Childhood Obesity The percentage of children with obesity in the United States has more than tripled since the 1970s ( Healthy Schools. ). Childhood obesity is a medical condition that affects children and teenagers who contain excess body fat. This condition is very common today, having about 3 million cases per year ( Healthy Schools. ). A sign that a child is suffering from obesity is when their weight is well above the average for a child s height and age. Today about one in five school children, ages 6 19, are obese ( Healthy Schools. ). I will be addressing the causes, health complications, treatments, controversy, and supporting obese students. First and foremost, the most common causes of childhood obesity are genetic factors, overeating, and not exercising enough. Although obesity may run in a family, it does not determine whether a child will be obese or not ( Obesity in Children ). If a child who comes from a family of obesity, happens to become overweight like them, the likely cause is due to bad eating and activity habits. Many children today spend more time inside the house eating and watching television, rather than being active outdoors ( Obesity in Children ). This is due to the recent popularity of having electronics such as television, games, and phones serve as entertainment. Another reason for the excessive eating is because parents are often too busy to cook healthy foods on a regular basis, leaving children to rely on fast food or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Born Chinese Assimilation The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans. These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity. Summary Of The Fall Of The House Of Usher Ashanti Bennett Dr. Amy Hudock ENG 102 9 November 2014 Gullah Superstitions: The Fall of the House of Usher Superstitions are a mysterious part of any culture, and those mysteries greatly influence mysterious writers. Edgar Allen Poe, one of the most famous mysterious authors, use the many mysterious encounters he faced as an asset for his short stories. A major influence was his time in Charleston, South Carolina, where he learned of the many superstitions and rituals of both the blacks and the whites of the area. His interests in horrific rituals like premature burials and zombication (which mainly involves voodoo, familiar to the Lowcountry Gullah culture) helped him to write horrific short stories, like The Fall of the House of Usher. Poe s gory and eerie setting of the house itself and the off putting characteristics of the Usher siblings expressed Poe s knowledge of paranoia and interest of the living dead, which comes in the weird rituals of the Gullah culture. Background When Poe arrived in Charleston, he had a chance to experience plenty of virtues that the area had to offer; however I feel that his main interests were in the mysteries and superstitions of the Lowcountry. A select few of those mysterious rituals and superstitions come from the Gullah culture. The Gullah people derived from the West African slaves that were transported to the Charles Towne colony, and they date back as far as the early 1700s. To thoroughly examine these texts and how they are related to oppression and inequality it is important to first define what each mean. Identity And Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Twelfth Night and Identity In the play Twelfth Night, Shakespeare delves into the concept of personal identity through his exploration of the character Viola. After discovering that her twin brother is dead following a shipwreck, Viola decides to reshape her identity in Illyria. Hiding her maiden clothes with the sea captain, Viola takes on the name Cesario. It is important to note, Viola did not mime her twin brother Sebastian, but instead formed her own male identity. As Viola makes new acquaintances as Cesario, she alludes to the trickery in her appearance, I am not that I play (1.5. 175). Viola controls her own identity and since she knows that biologically she is not a man, she can hint at her biological identity accordingly. She shapes her identity by deciding how she wants others to view her. When Olivia, the countess in the play, asks Viola What are you? (I.5. 204), Viola responds What I am, and what I would, are as secret as maidenhead (I.5. 207 08). Again, Viola admits to her fraudulent identity and that she is not what her appearance portrays her to be. Regardless of what Viola says, however, the other characters do not recognize her chicanery. Other s perspectives also influence the concept of forming one s personal identity. Viola may refer that she is not who she is, but the other characters in the play have already shaped their perspectives of her. For example, to Olivia, Viola is the man she is starting to adore. Olivia does not detect Viola s tricks because Viola is clothed as a man and so, from her appearance, she must be one. The shaping of identity by appearance and perspective only proves to be misleading when Viola s brother Sebastian enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Viola, Sebastian survived the shipwreck and is now in Illyria. As Sebastian adjusts to this new land, other characters confuse him as Viola. It is not until the two twin are on stage together that the Duke addresses the concept of identity and perspective, One face, one voice, one habit, and two persons a natural perspective that is and is not (V.1. 211). Yet somehow we accept that connecting them with the = symbol indicates that their numerical value is equivalent. Like fiction, maths merely requires us to suspend our disbelief long enough for us to understand whatever story or message the author is trying to impart. This philosophical position is called Mathematical Fictionalism. Its proponents believe that mathematics are purely fictional but are still functional as long as its purpose is not meant to be a mirror of reality (Leng, 2016). However, this position calls into question the validity of mathematics. Fiction, if assumed completely truthful, becomes a lie. So if mathematics are purely a human made language created to describe phenomena that cannot be described in another language, how can we ascertain its precision and how much power should we give it in a discussion? Mathematical entities do not exist concretely, yet we give them characteristics and magnitudes that allow them to be ranked, ordered and even to interact amongst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fidel Alejandro (Ruz) Castro is Cuban national iconic politician, socialist and revolutionist who had served the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister since 1959 until 1976 and successively become the President of the nation from 1976 until 2008. After performing as president, he appeared as the Cuban military commander. While advocating Cuban nationalist agenda adhering to Marxist Leninist, Castro became the first Secretary of the Republic of Cuba Communist Party from 1961 to 2011. While in Castro s administration, Cuba changed to be one party socialist whereby all the economy, business and industry doings had been nationalized. Under his regime also all socialist transformations were implemented throughout society. 2. The aim of this essay is to analyse the leadership of Fidel Castro and identify the leadership qualities which he had. In order to do this, we have to understand the fundamentals of leadership. • 34. Lille Tisages 1. Should Lille Tissages lower the price to FF15? (Assume no intermediate prices are being considered) My recommendation for Lille Tissages would be to keep their prices at the current FF20 and not to lower it back to FF15 again. While creating my analysis (which is based on the financial data in Appendix1), I considered the following angles: a) Profits. From profit angle, the scenario is straightforward, at any given volume, based on the estimation from the financial director, the profit would be higher by keeping the price at FF20. In fact, as per presented projection, FF15 will never reach BEP and won t make profit at all (in fact it makes loss), while FF20 will always produce profit, even at the suggested very low volume (which ... Likewise, there is no certainty that keeping the FF20 price will result 40% drop on the customer volumes, especially if we consider the market conditions, also mentioned just above. 2. If the department that produces Item 345 was a profit center and if you were the manager of that department, would it be to your financial advantage to lower the price? No, it wouldn t. If I m the manager of a profit center, my primary goal is to create profit within the boundaries of my department, and given the current conditions, this is not possible with FF15. So, if the only choices are FF20 and FF15, I would stick with FF20. However, if I really were in a real life situation, I would make the following suggestions: a) bring down the costs and make the fabric profitable even at the price of FF15, and much more profitable at FF20. Material, material spoilage, direct labour and direct department expenses are not the ones I can achieve any savings, these are already as lean as possible (considering the current equipment; the future modernisation might change this picture). Indirect department costs (the only fixed ones) are already scaling down nicely as the production volumes are raising, so that area is again not the one I should concentrate on. • 35. Space Is The Biggest Mysteries Humans Space is one of the biggest mysteries humans have ever had the chance to explore. It is massive, dark, and difficult to get too. Seriously fighting gravity is not an easy task. For millions of years, we have wondered what exactly is surrounding the Earth. Galileo and astronomers like him provided us with information about our surroundings, but could not get us to them. Fast forward to 1969 and we have come the farthest from Earth we have ever been, at the time. We reached the moon! Although the moon may not seem that far away it way more than any car ride any of us have been on. It takes time, force, and tons of fuel. Plus the ride to the moon involves g force. A force average humans do not experience every day unless you are in the Air Force or ride roller coasters for a living. After our first successful landing on the moon, we decided we wanted more information. This is where Carl Sagan, Voyager, and the Golden Record all come together for an incredible mission. Carl Sagan was a brilliant Astronomer and more than likely the most recognized scientists of the 1970s and 1980s. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 9, 1934. Sagan had always been fascinated by astronomy (Moore). The older he got, the more his interest grew. He graduated high school at 16 and decided to further his education at the University of Chicago. • 37. Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they brought in. This ability ... The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use of multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An example would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a deeper detail of data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each department of the university, I propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the case is so that every department can manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own resources because it is on a different server than another data mart typically. The look and feel of the Data Mart is up to that department and does not bother the other departments Data Marts. Individual data marts can also increase response time because there are not as many people hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up, data mart creation is very easy to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite keys of the table, and those keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft Access. Depending on the analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between student and teacher are unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database. The ... There are many metaphors that are used as symbols in Oedipus the King, which includes sight and blindness, self affliction, and the three way crossroad. These are the three main symbols that were used in the story, and sight means knowledge, self affliction stems from a sense of guilt, and the three way crossroad stands for decisions. The symbol of vision is a big component of the story of Oedipus. There are several situations where vision is presented in this story and it is a symbol of knowledge. The blind man that told Oedipus that he would kill his father had knowledge about something that Oedipus did not. Although the blind man could not visually see, he had knowledge that allowed him to see Oedipus future through a prophecy. Oedipus had the ability to see and was warned by others and did not take the advice that was offered by others. As a result, he cut his eyes out because of the awful things that he did. The use of blindness and sight was a symbol that was used throughout the story. Some of the characters lacked the ability to see, but they had the knowledge instead. National Survey On Drug Use And Health Introduction The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) reported in 2008 that 13.4% of adults in the U.S. received treatment for a mental health issue (i.e. emotional or mental problems) using services such as inpatient, outpatient, and prescription treatments (Use of Mental Health Services, n.d.). Over half of the adults 58.7% that identify with a serious mental illness (SMI) accessed some form of service to seek treatment for their specified disorder (Use of Mental Health Services, n.d.). In 2011, NSDUH documented a .2% increase 13.6% of adults utilized services for a mental health issue (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, n.d.). Even with an increase, there is a lack of access to these services. One main reason is due to geographical barriers. An estimated 77% of counties in the United States have a severe shortage of mental health providers. A majority of these provider deprived counties are located in rural areas where most accessible providers are located in metropolitan areas (Thomas, Konrad, Holzen, Morrissey, 2009). Major advances have taken place within the past decade that focus on making mental health services more accessible. Part of this advancement includes the utilization of technology to help reach underserviced areas. Canadian United States Foreign Policy Canadian United States Foreign Policy, Consistent and Thriving I hypothesize that the current US policy with Canada makes sense and is beneficial to both countries. Our current foreign policies with Canada include, working in partnerships within, at, and away from our borders to achieve enhanced security and accelerate the legitimate flow of people, goods, and services between our two countries. Our relationship with Canada, I would consider to be strong. The fact that we have a very large, extensive border between our countries, a solid relationship is almost a necessity. Eve with outr differences with regards to boundaries and oil reserve rights, the communications between our country are strong and I would classify the United States relationship with Canada and strong and thriving, but ore so consistent. The relationship between the US and Canada actually thrives off of each other, for example, Canada, absorbs 43% of U.S. exports, and half of their energy imports come from the Western Hemisphere. (US Dept. of State 2013) With this, I would also go to say that sharing a border with shared values and beliefs in our economic structure are key to successful foreign relations. Author Information: Taylor Wharton*, Colton Barr, Suyash Gupta Chem 111 section 490 Introduction: A major avenue of recycling and saving money is found in the recycling of aluminum cans. While aluminum cans are often recycled, the process of turning the can itself into a usable alum is not as well understood. Seeing that the process involves taking an aluminum can and utilizing heat reductions, filtrations, and mixtures in order to end up with alum crystals helps better understand how recycling can help save money and resources. Materials and Methods: Using all PPE a weighing boat and a balance were used to measure out 1.1121g of pieces of aluminum can. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results and Discussion: The creation of alum is made through four reactions. The first of these allows the aluminum to be oxidized with the 50mL of 1.4M KOH which creates a redox reaction. This is shown in the balanced reaction of 2Al(s)+2KOH(aq)+6H2O(l) 2KAl(OH)4(aq)+3H2(g). The next reaction comes from the addition of the the 20mL of 6.0M sulfuric acid. This reacts in the mixture to create 3 parts of the mixture including water, aluminum hydroxide, and potassium sulfate which is show in the balanced reaction of 2KAl(OH)4+H2SO4(aq) 2Al(OH)3(s)+K2(SO4)3(aq)+2H2O(l). The third reaction creates aluminum sulfate and hydrogen as shown in the balanced equation of 2Al(OH)3(s)+H2SO4(aq) Al(SO4)3(aq)+6H2)(l). The final reaction that results in alum is found in the cooling of the third reaction and this allows the crystals to precipitate and this is shown in the balanced reaction of Al2(SO4)3(aq)+K2SO4(aq)+24H2O(l) 2KAl(SO4)212H2O(l). These four reactions show how the original aluminum is able to be recycled and made into alum through addition of acids and usage of heat and cooling to form crystals. In converting the original 1.1121g of Aluminum can pieces used in the beginning of the process to .0422 moles of Aluminum and alum the theoretical yield of this experiment was calculated as being 19.5544g of KAl(SO4)212H2O(l). Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth process may start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is supposed to follow, true intercultural competence evolves when behaviors are internalized and occur naturally because they feel right (Medina López Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and difficulties are sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural deepening (Stephenson, 2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed in a new cultural environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and physical health issues (Li et al., 2013). The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to identify any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what dimensions of intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012; Godwin Jones, 2013). Our informal interpretation is that the omission of protection is not allowed but it is allowed for very restricted applications. The starting point is that NFPA 13 does not allow the omission of protection based on high ceilings. Although fire modeling on sprinkler activation (DETACT) shows a very large fire (28 megawatts) is needed to activate a sprinkler in a 100 ft ceiling, FM Global has done full scale testing that s shows these models are excessively conservative for higher ceilings. It also states this is allowed only when the area is restricted to low fire hazard uses. These two characteristics equally apply to the floor area for a sports arena but there are no separation requirements applicable to an arena so there is a difference. Despite that, Section 507 Exception No. 2 of the IBC has an allowance for omitting sprinklers for areas of indoor participant sports (that is not triggered by ceiling height). This section addresses buildings with unlimited area. It requires sprinklers throughout the building then provides an exception for participant sports. It is limited to buildings no more than one story above grade plane and has exiting and fire alarm requirements.
